- Adam Rutz: If you're listening to this podcast, you're probably chasing a higher level of performance in some area or areas of your life. You're not completely satisfied with where you are because you know somewhere inside of you that you're capable of way more. And that's a great thing. But here's the question Are you actually doing everything you can to give yourself the best chance to win right now? Because for a long time, I wasn't. My cycle looked kind of like this. I would work a ridiculous number of hours. That created stress. Then I'd use alcohol at night to wind down, maybe mix in some sports betting. That would lead to terrible sleep. I'd wake up exhausted and groggy. So I'd hammer caffeine and nicotine just to get myself through another workday. Then I'd work all day, get really stressed again, and repeat the same exact cycle. And I'd probably tried quitting Zin pouches 20 different times. But something finally changed when I started working with Brian Kane and really began understanding that you can't just remove a negative habit. You have to build something better in its place. Meditation, reading, journaling, taking sleep seriously, consistent exercise, better routines, all of those things helped me eliminate what I jokingly call my three horsemen alcohol, gambling, and nicotine back in 2023. And that improved virtually every single area of my life. Now, do I have everything figured out today? Absolutely not. I still probably drink too much coffee. I still rely on caffeine more than I should, but I'm a hell of a lot closer to the person I want to become because I became obsessed with improving my process and routines. So here's what I want you to think about today. What's your vice? Maybe it's alcohol, maybe it's nicotine, maybe it's gambling, maybe it's scrolling on your phone for five hours a day. Maybe it's negative self talk. Maybe it's some behavior you know is pulling you further away from the person you say you want to become. Identify it and then start today, not Monday, not next month, not when life gets easier today. Replace the destructive habit with one, two, or three habits that will move you forward. And don't worry about winning the next year yet. Win the next minute, then win the hour, then win the day. Stack enough winning days together and eventually they become weeks and then months and then years. Your life starts changing because you changed what you repeatedly do. Destroy the vice that keeps pulling you backwards. Build the habits that will move you forward and unlock the person you already know you're capable of becoming. So make the right choice today, then make it again tomorrow. Mindset, process, discipline, execution. That's Mental Performance Daily.
