Latest / HEAVY Music Interviews / Heating Things Up At HOLLOWFEST With PYREFLY
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey everyone, this is KJ from Firefly. I'm joined by Andrew,
- 0:04Speaker 1: my awesome lead guitarist.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Of Firefly.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Of Firefly, and we're here to talk to Heavy Mag,
- 0:09Speaker 1: Chris Peters, about HoloFest 2026.
- 0:11Speaker 2: That you are indeed, guys. Thanks for joining us today.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Thank you for having us. My pleasure.
- 0:18Speaker 3: So, Firefly will be one of the headline bands appearing
- 0:20Speaker 3: at HoloFest 2026 at the Mansfield Tavern in Brisbane on
- 0:24Speaker 3: October 31st.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Not far away now, guys. He's all rehearsed up, packed,
- 0:28Speaker 2: ready to go.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Oh, we're definitely not packed. We've all just moved house.
- 0:35Speaker 1: People are on holiday. Yeah, we've got a drummer in Hawaii.
- 0:38Speaker 1: We've all got new houses and stuff, and we're all
- 0:41Speaker 1: just absolute messes. But we are so fucking excited to
- 0:45Speaker 1: come up there for it. We're excited for our holiday. Yeah, true.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Yeah, fuck going overseas. Come up to Queensland. It's a
- 0:52Speaker 2: lot better.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it absolutely is. In the few times that
- 0:57Speaker 1: we've been up, it's been absolutely breathtaking. You have a
- 1:00Speaker 1: beautiful city.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Yeah, it is, man.
- 1:01Speaker 3: It really is. And I think one thing that stands
- 1:04Speaker 3: out to me about HoloFest is that every band is Australian.
- 1:07Speaker 3: So organisers aren't relying on internationals to get people through
- 1:10Speaker 3: the door. How important are festivals featuring just homegrown bands
- 1:14Speaker 3: to the sustainability, I guess, of Australian music?
- 1:17Speaker 1: Well, I've always seen that there's a big divide. Um,
- 1:19Speaker 1: so you've got your destroyer lines level stuff, which is
- 1:22Speaker 1: your good things and your not fest and your park waves.
- 1:25Speaker 1: And you've got a lot of bands coming from overseas
- 1:27Speaker 1: and that's the big draw. But then your, your next
- 1:30Speaker 1: rung down is your steel assassins or your shred fests,
- 1:34Speaker 1: which are a bit smaller. And there's no real kind
- 1:38Speaker 1: of bridge between those two worlds or not one that's
- 1:42Speaker 1: super accessible. Um, I mean, Shredfest, HoloFest, Blacken Festival, you've
- 1:51Speaker 1: got a lot of festivals that are really driving that
- 1:54Speaker 1: middle ground and getting eyes on bands that otherwise wouldn't
- 1:58Speaker 1: have that exposure, that would get them the opportunities to
- 2:00Speaker 1: play those bigger things, like your good things, or even
- 2:03Speaker 1: go overseas or whatever. I think HoloFest is absolutely phenomenal
- 2:07Speaker 1: for that. And Scotty's done a goddamn incredible job putting
- 2:10Speaker 1: together a lineup.
- 2:11Speaker 2: He has, man. Yeah, actually, I love that fact, mate.
- 2:14Speaker 3: We're the hollow, run hollow fest, and Scotty puts it
- 2:17Speaker 3: all together. So it's hard enough being in a band
- 2:19Speaker 3: these days and making it work. Like, taking that extra
- 2:22Speaker 3: responsibility on and organising a festival too, like, it's a
- 2:25Speaker 3: pretty bloody good effort.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Yeah, it is. And as someone who organises a lot
- 2:30Speaker 1: of shows, like, I don't just organise shows for Firefly.
- 2:34Speaker 1: I also have a productions company called Deep Six Entertainment
- 2:38Speaker 1: run with Don from Loner, the lead singer. we both
- 2:41Speaker 1: we're both obsessed with wrestling like we love it it's
- 2:46Speaker 1: so i know it's wrestling is informed so much of
- 2:49Speaker 1: how i perform like when you look at me on
- 2:52Speaker 1: stage and you can tell who my favorite wrestler was
- 2:56Speaker 1: when i was a kid you know like it's so
- 3:02Speaker 1: what we started doing don and i we got together
- 3:04Speaker 1: and we started putting on shows with local wrestling promotions
- 3:07Speaker 1: where we'd have like a match happened, then a band
- 3:09Speaker 1: would play.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Then match, band would play. Yeah, right, yeah, that's a
- 3:11Speaker 2: good idea, yeah.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Then we started to dig deep into deathmatch wrestling and getting, like,
- 3:16Speaker 1: the most heinous, brutal, like, 50,000 light tubes kind of,
- 3:20Speaker 1: that's our goal, to get to, like, that kind of
- 3:23Speaker 1: bullshit level. But we work with DMDU and we put
- 3:26Speaker 1: those shows in these tiny little dive bars. But running
- 3:31Speaker 1: the show with that many moving parts, it's really given
- 3:35Speaker 1: me an appreciation for people who run festivals. Because what
- 3:39Speaker 1: Scotty's doing is so far above what I do. Because
- 3:42Speaker 1: at least what I'm working on has just got the
- 3:44Speaker 1: one stage and a ring. Whereas Scotty, he's got, you know,
- 3:48Speaker 1: god damn, there's over 20 something bands on that line.
- 3:53Speaker 1: It's huge.
- 3:54Speaker 2: It's a nightmare.
- 3:56Speaker 1: And that means... Organising who brings the drum kit. I mean, yeah, gear.
- 4:02Speaker 1: You've got 20 plus bands worth of gear you've got
- 4:05Speaker 1: 20 plus bands worth of crew you've got 20 plus
- 4:08Speaker 1: bands worth of riders you've got 20 and then on
- 4:11Speaker 1: top of that you've got a you've got all of
- 4:14Speaker 1: that to fit into such a a crucial timeline because
- 4:17Speaker 1: if you know the first band of the day goes five.
- 4:20Speaker 4: Minutes over and then it goes two minutes over and
- 4:25Speaker 4: it adds up and then you see stuff like um
- 4:28Speaker 4: It happened at a festival recently where our friends Anton
- 4:30Speaker 4: and Aisha didn't actually get to play because there.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Were small delays.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Seriously, that's fucked.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Yeah. So, you know, all the respect in the world
- 4:41Speaker 1: to Scotty for how incredible a job he's doing with this.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Hell yeah, hell yeah.
- 4:46Speaker 3: The actual light-up, like, it includes yourselves, like, We the Hollow,
- 4:49Speaker 3: We the Devil, Depuration, Here's to Waking the Hate, so
- 4:51Speaker 3: many more, but who are you most looking forward to seeing,
- 4:54Speaker 3: playing or catching up with?
- 4:56Speaker 1: There's one band in particular that I have a real
- 5:00Speaker 1: fucking soft spot for. We've never met. We've only spoken briefly.
- 5:04Speaker 1: But Terror Parade, I believe they're called. Yep. Their sound
- 5:10Speaker 1: is incredible and their theatricality is something that just, it
- 5:15Speaker 1: makes us look like we're just kind of like wearing costumes.
- 5:19Speaker 1: They take it to this whole other level. And the
- 5:22Speaker 1: amount of respect and love that I have for that,
- 5:25Speaker 1: I'm going to be front row during their set with
- 5:27Speaker 1: a grin ear to ear. Nice.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Nice.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Speaking of bands, which band other than yourselves do you
- 5:34Speaker 3: reckon will get up to the most mischief on the day?
- 5:36Speaker 1: Oh, that's a good question. Scotty is going to be
- 5:42Speaker 1: too busy. That's a good point, yeah. But I know
- 5:44Speaker 1: Scotty has some shit planned. God damn it. Christian oh
- 5:48Speaker 1: so we're actually staying with Christian well when we come
- 5:51Speaker 1: up and like we've been planning this so Christian helped
- 5:54Speaker 1: us for the Brisbane show for the Avatar tiller like
- 5:57Speaker 1: he joined us backstage and helped us set up and
- 5:59Speaker 1: all that stuff which was really lovely of him but
- 6:02Speaker 1: we built just enough of a rapport that I know
- 6:04Speaker 1: he's going to fuck with me at some.
- 6:05Speaker 5: Point during this night nice I'll tag him back when
- 6:10Speaker 5: he comes down Christian if you're watching this if you
- 6:12Speaker 5: do anything I'm coming for you but I do know
- 6:15Speaker 5: it's coming.
- 6:16Speaker 2: You know, that's just like a red flag to a bull.
- 6:18Speaker 2: You're just doing that, mate. You've just fucked yourself.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, I've thrown the gauntlet down. It's officially a
- 6:24Speaker 1: challenge to hell.
- 6:25Speaker 2: It is.
- 6:26Speaker 3: I'm actually just going to edit that little bit out,
- 6:27Speaker 3: and I'm going to make a big deal of that.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Just send it.
- 6:31Speaker 6: Just do a really bad voiceover.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Christian, I know you're watching.
- 6:35Speaker 1: I can see you.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Thanks for that, guys.
- 6:37Speaker 3: It did some massive 12 hours of music spread across
- 6:41Speaker 3: two stages, so.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Yous are pretty much seasoned professionals now. What's your trick
- 6:48Speaker 3: for pasting yourself and making sure you fire on all
- 6:51Speaker 3: cylinders come stage time?
- 6:53Speaker 1: Well, a lot of the build-up to us actually going
- 6:57Speaker 1: on stage is really low-key. We don't drink much before
- 7:00Speaker 1: we go. I mean, I don't drink at all. I
- 7:01Speaker 1: haven't had a drop in about six years or something.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I take that burden on myself.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Take one for the team.
- 7:09Speaker 1: When we hit the stage, we're all pretty sober. We're
- 7:12Speaker 1: all clear. Most of our time is spent getting the
- 7:14Speaker 1: makeup on and tuning instruments. It's all very quiet. The
- 7:18Speaker 1: hard part that I've found throughout our career, though, is
- 7:22Speaker 1: keeping that energy going on stage. So when I first started,
- 7:26Speaker 1: I'd come out in just all cylinders right the way through.
- 7:29Speaker 1: I didn't understand or respect the dynamic between performer and audience.
- 7:36Speaker 1: So I'd be hitting 120%, and then by the end
- 7:38Speaker 1: of the set, I'd be fucked. And there'd be a
- 7:40Speaker 1: bunch of people who were watching but didn't have an
- 7:43Speaker 1: opportunity to give their energy to us. Cause I'd be
- 7:46Speaker 1: jumping off the stage, getting in their faces, running around
- 7:48Speaker 1: the whole venue, being a dickhead, which was fun. But
- 7:53Speaker 1: it's in recent years that I've discovered that we come
- 7:56Speaker 1: out with 120% for the first song. Then the second
- 8:00Speaker 1: song was, you know, we crank it up a little higher.
- 8:02Speaker 1: And then by then people are starting to warm up.
- 8:04Speaker 1: So we start to ease off a little bit. We
- 8:06Speaker 1: let them give us. Yeah. We used to not stop.
- 8:09Speaker 1: We just like a bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, done. Yeah,
- 8:12Speaker 1: our set was no gaps between the songs. It was
- 8:15Speaker 1: just one seamless... Right.
- 8:17Speaker 2: You'd be fucked after.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Yeah. The thing that changed that, like... Goddamn. I was
- 8:23Speaker 1: saying I wanted to quit music after that show. We
- 8:26Speaker 1: played the Burdekin with Dreadnought and... Oh, God. A couple
- 8:32Speaker 1: of years ago. Yeah, we're going back a couple of years. Goddamn.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Other band, I'm so sorry.
- 8:37Speaker 2: But that was great. That was great.
- 8:38Speaker 1: We... Had an hour-long set, and it was a very
- 8:45Speaker 1: small audience, an older audience who wasn't going to really
- 8:48Speaker 1: kind of give back any of that energy. They just
- 8:50Speaker 1: wanted to watch. So we did our thing. We played
- 8:54Speaker 1: start to finish, no gaps, just go for the whole hour.
- 8:56Speaker 1: And by the end, I was so horrifyingly exhausted. I
- 9:01Speaker 1: didn't know how to function.
- 9:03Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a two-way street. You give out the energy,
- 9:05Speaker 6: the audience gives you the energy back. You feed off
- 9:07Speaker 6: each other. We were looking out there. They were giving
- 9:09Speaker 6: us nothing.
- 9:10Speaker 1: We tried hard enough. They were giving us nothing. Yeah,
- 9:13Speaker 1: we were chasing. Whereas if I was doing that performance now,
- 9:18Speaker 1: what I'd do is I'd take a moment. We'd stop
- 9:20Speaker 1: between a song. I'd talk to them. I'd bring them
- 9:23Speaker 1: into our world. And that would allow me as a
- 9:27Speaker 1: front man to kind of gauge what kind of energy
- 9:30Speaker 1: they have. Because looking back, it's not that they weren't
- 9:33Speaker 1: giving us any energy. It's just that I didn't understand
- 9:36Speaker 1: the energy they were giving us.
- 9:38Speaker 6: Yeah, they approached us afterwards and said, oh, that was.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Great, that was great. Yeah, we were all enjoying it.
- 9:42Speaker 6: Yeah, we didn't know.
- 9:45Speaker 3: I guess that's a good lesson for younger bands, you know,
- 9:47Speaker 3: like you play the gig to the crowd, you don't
- 9:50Speaker 3: just play to your own expectations. Like every crowd is
- 9:53Speaker 3: different You've got to give different things to get anything back.
- 9:57Speaker 6: We played a gig where the square reader at the
- 10:01Speaker 6: door was... And we played to two people for the
- 10:05Speaker 6: entire set.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Who was this band? There was one guy in front
- 10:08Speaker 1: of us when we started. And I looked around and
- 10:11Speaker 1: I just saw an empty room and the starting time
- 10:13Speaker 1: was a bit vague. So I looked at him and went, you,
- 10:16Speaker 1: what's your name? And he went, Brendan. And I went,
- 10:18Speaker 1: what's your birthday today? Fuck yeah.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Fuck yeah, that's right.
- 10:22Speaker 5: This one's for you, Brendan.
- 10:23Speaker 1: And this one's for you, Brendan. And this one's for you, Brendan.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Whereas come HoloFest, with what we've learned over the course
- 10:30Speaker 1: of our career that I don't want to talk about
- 10:33Speaker 1: how long it's been, we're just going to come out,
- 10:37Speaker 1: first two songs, push as hard as we can, get
- 10:40Speaker 1: everyone's attention. And then after that, We pull back. We
- 10:44Speaker 1: let them come to us. We throw out our stupid
- 10:46Speaker 1: bong sticks and we get them to beat the shit
- 10:48Speaker 1: out of each other. I jump into the crowd and
- 10:50Speaker 1: get them to crash tackle me. And we all sing
- 10:53Speaker 1: and dance and have fun together. And that's what it's
- 10:56Speaker 1: all about. As performers, it's our job to create a
- 11:02Speaker 1: world that's different and engaging and is so much better
- 11:09Speaker 1: than the bullshit that's out there.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Well said, brother. Very well said, man.
- 11:15Speaker 1: I like it.
- 11:15Speaker 2: I like it.
- 11:16Speaker 3: One of the beautiful things about music festivals, I'm sure
- 11:19Speaker 3: you guys will agree, is stumbling across bands you may
- 11:21Speaker 3: not have heard of before. So say someone's off to
- 11:23Speaker 3: HoloFest and they don't know too much about Firefly. What
- 11:26Speaker 3: three songs should they listen to in order to get
- 11:28Speaker 3: to know the band a bit better?
- 11:30Speaker 1: Lost. Lost, Emotet and Void, I think. Yeah, that's a
- 11:34Speaker 1: good combo there. Lost is how we start every set.
- 11:37Speaker 1: It's been our starter for a long time.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Since the start.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's a song that's very, it's punchy, it's attention-grabbing,
- 11:47Speaker 1: and we didn't know who we wanted to be as
- 11:50Speaker 1: a band when we first kind of put it together.
- 11:52Speaker 1: It was a song that Andrew had written, and we
- 11:54Speaker 1: just did it, and it was fun, and we loved it.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Emotep is... That was.
- 12:00Speaker 6: One of the more recent ones that we wrote. It's
- 12:03Speaker 6: sort of a bit more indicative of where we are now.
- 12:06Speaker 6: Slow down a bit, a bit more bouncy, a bit
- 12:08Speaker 6: more fun.
- 12:09Speaker 1: And on top of that, because of the whole, you know,
- 12:12Speaker 1: like it's a song written about the main antagonist of
- 12:15Speaker 1: The Mummy, Emotep.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, you're right, yeah.
- 12:18Speaker 1: And like what kind of push down, like I remember
- 12:21Speaker 1: Andrew telling me about it, saying, I'm going to write
- 12:22Speaker 1: a song about The Mummy. We love the movie. And
- 12:24Speaker 1: I'm like, okay. Yeah, sure, okay, Andrew. And then he
- 12:28Speaker 1: shows me the song and it's got the build up
- 12:31Speaker 1: and I'm like, yeah, okay, I get it, I guess, whatever.
- 12:33Speaker 1: And then it gets to the bit after the chorus
- 12:35Speaker 1: where it's just.
- 12:39Speaker 1: And with that, there's the chant, E-M-O-T-A-P. Right. I was like, oh, yeah,
- 12:45Speaker 1: now I see this. I feel this.
- 12:46Speaker 6: I wrote that song to be a crowd chant song.
- 12:50Speaker 6: I want to see firsthand a thousand people screaming E-M-O-T-A-P.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Yeah. And part of the way we kind of make
- 12:57Speaker 1: it a bit more fun is because it's so bouncy,
- 12:59Speaker 1: I get people to act like thralls and bounce around.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Oh, heck no.
- 13:05Speaker 1: That's great. It's good fun. And The Void, The Void
- 13:07Speaker 1: is our heaviest song. It's our most, from a lyrical perspective,
- 13:14Speaker 1: I'd say it's one of our most impactful. So a
- 13:17Speaker 1: lot of the music that we write, because I write
- 13:20Speaker 1: all the lyrics, a lot of the lyrics that I
- 13:22Speaker 1: write are about my cripplingly horrifying mental health. I'm a
- 13:27Speaker 1: crazy person, like, well and truly, like diagnosed and nuts. Nice.
- 13:33Speaker 1: There's a lot of fun that comes with that, but
- 13:35Speaker 1: there's a lot of struggles as well. Yeah, yeah. The
- 13:37Speaker 1: Void is a song that I poured a lot of
- 13:39Speaker 1: myself into, both musically and lyrically. So that's one of
- 13:43Speaker 1: the few ones that I wrote. Yeah, very cool.
- 13:45Speaker 2: I'm really proud of it. Very cool.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Just give me an idea there too because they are
- 13:49Speaker 3: having dress-up themes at HoloFest. So people can come dressed
- 13:52Speaker 3: as mummies just so they can get right into it
- 13:54Speaker 3: during Imhotep.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Yeah, just get a roll of toilet paper,
- 13:59Speaker 1: you're done.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Make sure it's two-ply. It's got to be two-ply.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Oh, by the way, we're not peasants here.
- 14:07Speaker 2: So anybody who's thinking about what to wear, come dressed
- 14:09Speaker 2: as a mummy.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I'm stuck with, because we already dress up when we
- 14:16Speaker 1: get on stage. So having to adjust that is like...
- 14:20Speaker 1: I think if we just all come out looking like NSYNC,
- 14:22Speaker 1: I think that would do it.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Well you'll definitely get people talking.
- 14:28Speaker 1: I'm in the process of looking at things that I
- 14:30Speaker 1: can add to the already Firefly costume because one of
- 14:38Speaker 1: the mental blocks that comes with it so I used
- 14:41Speaker 1: to do a lot of acting as well and I
- 14:43Speaker 1: used to study deeply into the theatre of cruelty which
- 14:47Speaker 1: isn't as bad as it sounds it's more about shedding
- 14:51Speaker 1: the person and becoming the character And the part of
- 14:54Speaker 1: that is having an outfit or like the costume is
- 14:59Speaker 1: the character. So when the makeup goes on and when
- 15:02Speaker 1: that very specific shirt and those very specific jeans and
- 15:05Speaker 1: those very specific boots all come on and the coat,
- 15:09Speaker 1: it's like I am now the front man of Firefly.
- 15:13Speaker 1: And I can be this egotistical, charismatic prick that tells
- 15:16Speaker 1: people what to do. The second I get off stage,
- 15:19Speaker 1: it all comes off and I'm just like a weenie
- 15:21Speaker 1: little shit again.
- 15:23Speaker 2: But for that moment on stage.
- 15:24Speaker 1: I'm at my best. I like that. That's good. Yeah,
- 15:30Speaker 1: finding things that we can add on to it to
- 15:32Speaker 1: make it a bit more thematic with Halloween. I think
- 15:36Speaker 1: that's where my focus is going to be over the
- 15:38Speaker 1: next couple of weeks.
- 15:38Speaker 2: You might be better off just focusing on doing the
- 15:40Speaker 2: stage set up.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Keep your original, like what you've got, your costume eyes,
- 15:44Speaker 3: but do the stage up as well because that way
- 15:46Speaker 3: you're still keeping your core identities.
- 15:48Speaker 1: I actually really like that.
- 15:50Speaker 2: That's why you pay me the big money, brother.
- 15:53Speaker 1: We're going to need four trucks.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Get on to Scotty now. Tell him to start getting
- 16:00Speaker 2: them ready.
- 16:01Speaker 1: We were lucky enough once a long time ago. It
- 16:04Speaker 1: was the coolest show ever, actually. And it was the
- 16:07Speaker 1: show that we discovered that we really liked wearing the
- 16:11Speaker 1: makeup because we didn't know. We were never a makeup band.
- 16:17Speaker 1: But we had a show in Wollongong at a place
- 16:19Speaker 1: called La La La's and it was a show that
- 16:22Speaker 1: was raising money to help a drag queen named Roxy
- 16:25Speaker 1: Horror who had been savagely beaten up in the streets.
- 16:30Speaker 1: And it was, you know, so we all came together
- 16:32Speaker 1: as a community and we're really big on the queer community.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I mean, shit, a number of us are involved in
- 16:39Speaker 1: a number of different ways.
- 16:40Speaker 2: People are people, mate, no matter what they think, you know.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:44Speaker 1: So we were fortunate enough to be invited along to that.
- 16:47Speaker 1: But then we realized we're going to be on stage
- 16:50Speaker 1: with a drag queen before us and a drag queen
- 16:53Speaker 1: after us. And no matter what we do, we're going
- 16:55Speaker 1: to be bland as hell. So we painted our faces
- 16:58Speaker 1: and we, you know, it looked terrible. It looked fucking
- 17:01Speaker 1: garbage when we did it the first time. But it
- 17:03Speaker 1: awoke something in us. We were performing so differently. We're like, oh,
- 17:06Speaker 1: what happened here?
- 17:08Speaker 2: How long ago was that?
- 17:09Speaker 1: Oh, that's like four years ago now, I think.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Yeah, it is. Well, yeah.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Yeah, but the reason I bring up that show is
- 17:17Speaker 1: because for some reason in this tiny little place, someone
- 17:21Speaker 1: had brought cold sparks. So we had fucking pyro. Like,
- 17:25Speaker 1: this is the greatest shit ever.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Excellent. That's shit, right?
- 17:31Speaker 1: We need pyro at Hollow first. We do. I'm going
- 17:34Speaker 1: to get on to Scotty and demand pyro. Do we
- 17:36Speaker 1: know any fire trolls or anyone up there?
- 17:38Speaker 3: Well, they've had fire trolls and shit up there before,
- 17:40Speaker 3: so if they've had that, you should be allowed to
- 17:41Speaker 3: have pyro, so.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Hey, it's a big stage. Yeah.
- 17:44Speaker 2: It's a great stage.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Yeah. You are now our ideas, man. We're hiring you
- 17:50Speaker 1: full time.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Just drop me a line whenever you want anything, mate.
- 17:52Speaker 3: I can't guarantee it'll always be good or legal, but
- 17:55Speaker 3: it'll be fun.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Every Thursday night, just send through a list of ideas.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Whatever I've thought of for the last week.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Keep a notepad by the toilet.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Toilet ideas are the best ideas.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I always take a notepad to the toilet with me
- 18:10Speaker 2: every time. Otherwise, you're missing out.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Bad idea? One ply.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Remember that for all the mummies out there. All the
- 18:21Speaker 3: mummies get to wear the one ply.
- 18:25Speaker 2: One ply released their latest album, Lost and Found, earlier
- 18:29Speaker 2: this year too, guys. How was the reception? Did you
- 18:32Speaker 2: get the response you were hoping for?
- 18:35Speaker 1: It didn't spread online as much as we were hoping. But,
- 18:38Speaker 1: I mean, cracking the algorithm is fucking brutal.
- 18:42Speaker 2: It is, yeah.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I mean, no matter what, it's luck. I mean, you've
- 18:49Speaker 1: just got to be found by the right person at
- 18:51Speaker 1: the right time. Where the hard work, where the work
- 18:55Speaker 1: that we can control to a degree comes from is, like,
- 18:59Speaker 1: in the scene. We've sold, like, we've nearly sold out
- 19:03Speaker 1: of CDs, which has been amazing.
- 19:05Speaker 2: That's good.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Just so we've got enough to all hollow first. Ooh,
- 19:10Speaker 1: our bass player has arrived. Yes.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Right for the end. Good on, good timing.
- 19:15Speaker 1: People, the people who hear the song seem to like them.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Then the people who buy the CDs seem to enjoy
- 19:21Speaker 1: having it. And honestly, I don't care as much for
- 19:26Speaker 1: the online numbers as I do about the experience because
- 19:29Speaker 1: numbers are numbers. Whereas like if someone's coming up to
- 19:32Speaker 1: the merch desk to buy a CD.
- 19:34Speaker 2: I'm looking. What is so hot?
- 19:39Speaker 1: You little shit gremlin. He has to go into air jail.
- 19:46Speaker 1: He's the big bad guard dog i was a little
- 19:49Speaker 1: bit disheartened at first when the numbers weren't doing what
- 19:53Speaker 1: i wanted them to do but the cds just kept
- 19:55Speaker 1: disappearing and i got to see i got to look
- 19:58Speaker 1: into people's eyes as they were buying these cds and
- 20:01Speaker 1: and thank them and be present for that moment where
- 20:04Speaker 1: like you're taking a piece of us home with you
- 20:05Speaker 1: thank you yeah physical media is king Yeah, physical media
- 20:09Speaker 1: is key.
- 20:09Speaker 3: And you don't need enough of that in the modern age,
- 20:11Speaker 3: do you? Like the modern age, everything is online and
- 20:13Speaker 3: social media. Like actually getting to have that interaction and
- 20:15Speaker 3: talk to the people.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Hey, brother.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Welcome.
- 20:18Speaker 2: How are you doing? This is Bradley. Hey, brother. I'm
- 20:21Speaker 2: going to pop a knee on.
- 20:23Speaker 3: And you can maybe give us some sensible answers. These
- 20:25Speaker 3: guys have been carrying on for the last 20 minutes.
- 20:28Speaker 2: I'm lucky with that.
- 20:29Speaker 1: We're discussing everything from festivals to the benefits of 4PLY.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Okay.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Are you picking up what we're putting down?
- 20:40Speaker 1: I'm picking it up, yeah. This interview's been fucking excellent.
- 20:45Speaker 1: It's been so much fun.
- 20:48Speaker 3: I know we're talking about the LSS, guys, but not
- 20:51Speaker 3: everyone lives in Brisbane, so you got any other shows coming.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Up where people can catch you?
- 20:56Speaker 1: We do?
- 20:56Speaker 2: What do we have up for another?
- 20:58Speaker 1: And I've been so focused on HoloFest and moving out. Yeah.
- 21:02Speaker 1: It's like, it's just a big one in Sydney.
- 21:05Speaker 2: When we get back, it's not a Brisbane one, but
- 21:07Speaker 2: you know.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Oh yeah. Steel Assassin. Ah, we're really excited about Steel Assassin.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Steel Assassin. So Dave Balfour of Metal Evolution. Um, he
- 21:17Speaker 1: is one of the people who gave us a platform
- 21:19Speaker 1: when we were absolutely fucking nobody. And then he just
- 21:22Speaker 1: kept giving it to us. He gave us a spot on,
- 21:25Speaker 1: he gave us like, opening spots on small shows. Then
- 21:29Speaker 1: we supported bands like Hazmat, and then we played, like,
- 21:32Speaker 1: we opened up Steel Assassins. And every time we've been,
- 21:37Speaker 1: every time we've been unsure about what our next step is,
- 21:40Speaker 1: Dave is there. He just appears and goes, here you go, guys.
- 21:43Speaker 2: That's so cool.
- 21:44Speaker 1: And I'm at a point now where I firmly believe
- 21:47Speaker 1: that Pyrefly, if we, if we ever came to a
- 21:53Speaker 1: point where nobody on Earth was giving us opportunities, there
- 21:57Speaker 1: would still be Dave Balfour handing us, handing us a line.
- 22:02Speaker 1: We had to start again from square one. There he'd be.
- 22:05Speaker 1: I cannot say, I cannot say anything unkind about the man. Yeah.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Right.
- 22:13Speaker 1: He is.
- 22:14Speaker 2: You have a sensible answer. I didn't even have to
- 22:16Speaker 2: say anything.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I know.
- 22:17Speaker 2: But you've been there, mate. You've been there, brought it
- 22:19Speaker 2: out of him.
- 22:21Speaker 1: We're also going to be heading out to Dubbo early December.
- 22:24Speaker 1: That show not been announced. Don't know what the line-up is.
- 22:28Speaker 2: But you'll be there.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll be there. And if there isn't a show...
- 22:32Speaker 1: And there'll be a show. Well, if there isn't a show,
- 22:34Speaker 1: either way, we'll go to Dubbo.
- 22:36Speaker 2: We'll make one.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Yeah, go to Dubbo and visit Janine's bum. My wife
- 22:41Speaker 1: was born in Dubbo, so I'm really looking forward to it.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Best town in the world, isn't it?
- 22:45Speaker 1: Move your mouth and then we'll dub in the right answer.
- 22:49Speaker 2: As far as 2027 goes, we have a lot in
- 22:51Speaker 2: the works. Nothing that I can talk about just yet.
- 23:11Speaker 1: But we want to let everyone listening know we're going
- 23:14Speaker 1: to be near you. We're coming. We have plans to
- 23:18Speaker 1: visit all of you.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Well, where's the best place for people to keep up
- 23:22Speaker 2: to date on your new announcements and shit?
- 23:24Speaker 1: Instagram. That's PyFlyOfficial. I abuse the hell out of that.
- 23:29Speaker 1: I use that sometimes too much. Facebook, again, Pyrefly on Facebook.
- 23:35Speaker 1: All my posts on Instagram just automatically go over there
- 23:38Speaker 1: and I never look at it. So if you comment
- 23:39Speaker 1: on our Facebook and you get a response like three
- 23:42Speaker 1: months later, just know it came from the heart. On
- 23:46Speaker 1: top of that, on our Instagram, if you look at
- 23:50Speaker 1: our links, you'll see links to our, it'll have our
- 23:53Speaker 1: bios and it'll have our upcoming shows and upcoming music,
- 23:58Speaker 1: anything that you could possibly need to find. There it is.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Fantastic, guys. Well, thanks very much for your time. It's
- 24:03Speaker 2: about time we got to actually meet. It's been a
- 24:05Speaker 2: pleasure chatting with you.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Fireflyer at HoloFest, 31st of October in Brisbane, Mansfield Tavern.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Tickets through AusTix.
