- 0:10>> Hi. >> Hey. How are you? >> I'm good. How are you?
- 0:13>> I'm going to apologize. I have not done anything to research anything for this
- 0:17show this week. >> Okay, and that's different normal Okay. >> [laughter] >> All right.
- 0:24That's fine. There's a lot in here actually. Uh it's been busy because we didn't
- 0:29record last week. >> Oh, that's right. >> Because it was America's birthday. >> Yes.
- 0:33>> America turned 250. >> Yep. >> And I was in Vermont. So.
- 0:39I apologize. >> And you had lots of fireworks.
- 0:43>> We did. We had lots of fireworks and beer. It's good.
- 0:49>> I don't really picture beer as being part of America's thing, but I guess it is.
- 0:54>> What should I have been drinking? >> I don't know. Just in my head, Americans
- 0:58don't drink beer. I know they do. >> Mhm. Oh, they do.
- 1:02>> movies, it's only the rednecks that drink beer. >> Okay. Yeah. Yeah, they
- 1:08>> And then everyone else is on spirits. >> Okay. Yeah.
- 1:12Okay. Like beer, bourbon I guess is is pretty American. >> Yeah. They drink it straight.
- 1:18>> Yeah. Okay. They don't. They don't. They drink beer and like
- 1:24uh What are those [ __ ] things? High Noons and uh >> High Noon?
- 1:30>> Uh what are the new iced tea ones? Iced tea >> Iced tea?
- 1:33>> drinks. Yeah, what is it called? They're really popular right now. Uh drink in
- 1:40Sun Cruisers. >> Sun Cruisers? And what's in that? >> They're pretty [ __ ] good. Uh
- 1:46it's iced tea and vodka. >> Okay. It's sort of like what they did with Solo.
- 1:53>> Yeah, and you can get it mixed with lemonade as well, like a half it iced
- 1:56tea half lemonade and then uh there's like blueberry lemonade
- 2:00strawberry lemonade pink lemonade it's anyway get you
- 2:03>> for for a country that doesn't let you drink before you're 21 they're really
- 2:07[laughter] aiming for teenagers aren't they? >> I know I
- 2:12everybody drinks these like we go to [ __ ] kids birthday
- 2:15parties the dads are drinking these like these are very popular.
- 2:20>> Oh there is a a joke out about here about like Australian men not liking
- 2:23beer anymore so I guess that's made it to America as well.
- 2:27>> Yeah I guess so. Yeah no it's Sun Cruiser hard answer well these are
- 2:30I mean this is not super interesting but it's like it's lower calories people are
- 2:35worried about calories. reasonably >> I'm not I've just accepted my fate.
- 2:42>> fair >> Mhm. >> Anyway. Uh that's alcohol news for this week.
- 2:47Yes. Um where should we begin? I think >> start off with the most important thing?
- 2:53>> Yeah is it I'm going in. >> Tell us who's got married. >> Yeah and
- 2:59we weren't invited. >> No which I found quite rude.
- 3:02>> Yeah we were we're not invited although neither was Ryan Reynolds so
- 3:08um you know >> Yeah. >> Although I don't think we've done as much wrong as Ryan Reynolds.
- 3:14>> As Ryan Reynolds so >> he's really really not popular these days apparently
- 3:19but yeah she got married in in New York and everybody's been talking about it.
- 3:25>> And the thing that I found most the weirdest thing about all of this
- 3:31was the fact that Adam Sandler officiated that's the one thing that
- 3:35came out of nowhere for me. >> [laughter] >> I don't understand I don't understand.
- 3:41Did he do it in a silly voice like >> Did he do it in his basketball shorts?
- 3:47Like he's always in his basketball shorts like is he just like >> It's so odd. >> Does
- 3:53>> I even know him? >> Like Yeah, well, they must.
- 4:00Like They must be friends. >> Well, I don't see them being friends. I
- 4:05see them being from very different worlds. >> Yeah.
- 4:09>> Like all three three of them. Like none of them cross over.
- 4:12>> Yeah, they got sports man, music girl, and allegedly funny guy. >> Yeah.
- 4:18>> do funny things anymore. He does he does serious acting. Sorry. But
- 4:22>> Um I haven't seen any of that. >> I just don't know. I just confused by
- 4:28that. But I mean whatever. I'm sure they had a lovely wedding. I'm
- 4:31sure it was very expensive. Uh and >> more than would
- 4:36I like I probably live off the rest of my life of what they spent on this wedding.
- 4:39>> Yeah, absolutely. Uh and if you
- 4:43gentle listener would like a piece of Taylor Swift's wedding, apparently you,
- 4:49like other fans, can purchase garbage from the wedding for $25. Uh
- 4:56>> Including cigarette butts and ovulation test kit. >> [laughter]
- 5:01>> And things people think Okay. Who the [ __ ] was doing that at the
- 5:06wedding? And where did you get this trash? Like >> Trash? >> Like
- 5:12Yeah. Uh a New York artist picked up the garbage from city streets around Madison
- 5:17Square Garden. And uh they're all sold within 24 hours.
- 5:24Water bottle caps, ring pop candy, police caution tape, straws, utensils,
- 5:28and a single left airpod. >> Ooh. Imagine you could find out whose that
- 5:35was though. >> The artist described everything as a sculpture.
- 5:40And uh he's made 1,250 bucks. >> And the thing is you don't know if it was anyone
- 5:46at the wedding. It was just garbage Trump around. >> Trash from New York, which I'm not I
- 5:52don't know if you've been to New York. I know you have. I don't know if the
- 5:54listeners have. There's plenty of it. You can get it for
- 5:56free. They're just throwing it out in the street. >> [laughter]
- 6:00>> [ __ ] bags of it in the street. >> Anything in here that he got it from
- 6:05inside Madison Square Garden, he got it from the streets around. So,
- 6:09>> Literally in New York, I I mean, I'm assuming this is normal. I've seen it a
- 6:13couple of times. This is the way that they do the garbage is that they just
- 6:16put the bags of garbage in the street and the people come and get it. So, like
- 6:19eventually, whatever day it is, if you're there, there's just piles and
- 6:23piles of bags of garbage in the street. Help yourselves. >> Yeah.
- 6:29Yeah. Uh Oh, interesting. The artist sells other
- 6:32cities' trash on his website, too. Interesting. Yeah.
- 6:39>> But, yeah, like it's I I really I think that yeah, people you weren't buying
- 6:44trash from their wedding. >> Yeah. >> Like at all. >> Yeah, well, also,
- 6:49the artist pointed out the garbage was technically from outside the barriers
- 6:53because the artist wasn't invited. So, again, it's just trash off the streets of
- 6:59>> It's trash off the street. Like I'm pretty sure Madison Square Garden, when
- 7:03they have all the rubbish inside, put it into bins inside and they get those
- 7:06trucks that drive in and and take it. >> And they take it to their the warehouse
- 7:10where they sell all their eBay stuff. >> Yes. Yeah. Cuz it's a good business.
- 7:16>> So, anyway, $25 apparently for some cigarette butts
- 7:21that were near Taylor Swift's wedding. >> [laughter]
- 7:24>> Imagine how much it'd be for stuff that was inside the wedding. Inside Taylor Swift.
- 7:30He was already worth a fortune. >> That's true. It's true. >> [laughter]
- 7:37>> Uh Uh >> He contributes his own money. It's not like he's going to be
- 7:41just off her. He's >> Yeah. He um but I think she's still
- 7:47the richer half. Like her her name would go first on applications. >> I would think so.
- 7:53>> Um I was a funny tweet. This guy is um
- 7:59Here we go. Oh, wait. These are old tweets. He's
- 8:07Here we go. This is her husband, Travis Kelce? Kelsey? I don't know how to pronounce
- 8:13his name. This is a tweet of his. This is a This is what we're dealing with here. This is
- 8:19uh I Okay, it's a tweet. >> [clears throat] >> I just gave a squirrel, spelled s q u i
- 8:25r l e, a piece, spelled p e i c e, of bread and it straight smashed all of it.
- 8:32I had no idea they ate bread like that. Haha, #crazy. >> [laughter]
- 8:38>> And this is the man that married your Tay Tay. >> My Tay Tay?
- 8:43>> I'm talking to the listeners. Yeah. >> Oh, oh, oh.
- 8:46>> Taylor Swift I'm not a big Taylor Swift fan. Anything of hers.
- 8:51>> I'm not sure I can identify a song of hers. I'll be honest. I know the only
- 8:55thing she lives in Rhode Island, so I hear about her a lot. Like we just have
- 8:59to hear about her because she's always doing things that annoy people. And um
- 9:04but I don't know any of her music. >> I I know the joke that she all of her
- 9:08songs are writing about people she's broken up with. I know that joke, but
- 9:12>> She doesn't write the songs, guys. Can we just talk about that for a
- 9:16minute? She has songwriters, okay? >> Yes. >> They're not about I mean
- 9:21whatever. >> Just shake it off, Matt. Just shake it off.
- 9:25>> off. Oh, I didn't know that one. I really like that song. Yeah. There you go. I lied.
- 9:30>> That's the only one I've got. Like don't be expecting any more of me. That's
- 9:33that's all my Tay Tay knowledge there. And the fact that everyone knows she's
- 9:37really good friends with Adam Sandler. >> All right. Well, something you do know about
- 9:43Xbox. >> Yes. >> There's been a massive amount of Xbox
- 9:48news in the last 2 weeks. >> Now, this isn't just happening in the X
- 9:52[clears throat] This just happened in the game space, which I do not
- 9:54understand. I don't I get it, but I don't. >> So, okay. Let's begin with before this came
- 10:01out, the big thing, there was a report that
- 10:05Game Pass lost 30 million subscribers because of this whole debacle.
- 10:12>> Oh, because I thought they lost it because of when they did the price hike.
- 10:15>> That's what I mean. No, sorry. That's what I mean. So, you went all the way
- 10:17back to Yeah, the big price hike. >> The Game Pass debacle, I mean. >> Uh yeah, sorry. Uh
- 10:23I was one of them. I canceled my Game Pass because I was like, "You know what?
- 10:28I'm not using it very much. >> Yeah. >> And you've made it noticeable for me.
- 10:32>> Yeah, but before it was at the price where you weren't using it that much,
- 10:35but you were it wasn't too bad. >> It was nice to have it, you know,
- 10:39and then they put it up and I was like, "Nope." >> Uh anyway, they lost 30 million
- 10:43subscribers. Uh not good. [snorts] >> No. And it's hard to get subscribers
- 10:49back. >> Right. Uh well, I mean, I don't think this is necessarily going to have helped
- 10:54what they've done now, but long-term maybe this will be helpful. I don't
- 10:58exactly know what's going on over there, but um they said, you know, they want to
- 11:04entertain more than a billion people daily, and in order to do that, they need
- 11:11to fire everybody. >> Yes. >> So, uh they have
- 11:17put out this blog post, which we've linked here. It says resetting Xbox.
- 11:23>> Yeah. And I think they got rid of what, 1,200 or 1,700 have already gone with
- 11:29another 3,200 to come. >> Yeah. >> Or something like that. That's >> Through
- 11:35>> 2027, they'll be reducing by 3200 people. They've
- 11:40uh let a bunch of studios just go back to being Double Fine. It's just
- 11:46independent again now. >> Yep. >> They just said, "You know what? Off you go."
- 11:52>> Yep. I know we spent all this money buying all these studios, but you can
- 11:56just all go away and now >> Yeah. I mean, take your IP with you. There >> [laughter]
- 12:01>> There must be a reason. I don't quite I'm not a business person, obviously,
- 12:05but like, [ __ ] hell. Um And the big one everyone's talking about
- 12:11is id. >> Yes. >> Because apparently,
- 12:18they fired all the programmers. And id is famously
- 12:24the studio that John Carmack, you know, founded with John Romero and
- 12:28and everybody. And you know, they made uh Wolfenstein and Doom and Quake and
- 12:33Quake 3 and and like id Tech is just famous for these, you know, the amazing
- 12:39game engine stuff. And they need programmers to do that. So, I guess
- 12:43that's not a thing they do anymore. >> And oh, it's weird. Another weird thing
- 12:48I've heard throughout all of this, they fired a lot of people from Bethesda
- 12:52so Bethesda can focus on getting Elder Scrolls and Fallout out faster.
- 12:58>> That I didn't get. >> Look, we found that all these people
- 13:01were distracting. So, Todd, it's just you now. >> [laughter] >> Sit down and shut up.
- 13:08>> You've got to finish Elder Scrolls, Fallout 5, and uh whatever and and we
- 13:13and the Elder Scrolls online DLC. >> Yeah. You've got to keep all that. Just
- 13:17get that out. Yeah, I didn't quite understand how they fired so many to
- 13:21focus on getting that out. >> [sighs and gasps] >> Well, I guess
- 13:25>> Again, I don't understand >> The first I guess had other stuff going on, like other
- 13:31>> [snorts] >> copies. Oh, Doom is another one that they're focusing on. Um >> Mhm.
- 13:36>> But but that Yeah, they've stripped it right down and they're just just
- 13:38focusing on that stuff. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, I don't know. It does sound weird, right?
- 13:43>> Yeah, like wouldn't you just let's not farm and just hey, get to work.
- 13:48>> I mean, I guess it doesn't necessarily work like that. You can't just throw
- 13:51more people at a I don't know. >> getting rid of people seeing >> Yeah, I don't know.
- 13:55>> a stranger way. >> I mean, it's I you'd save money.
- 13:59>> Well, I the thing is I don't understand about the game industry as a whole is
- 14:04it's the biggest industry in the world. >> [laughter] >> Mhm.
- 14:07>> Like makes more than movies, makes more like games make a fortune. Yet, they're
- 14:11all and they're always setting record profits. But they've always
- 14:16>> they go too hard. Like everyone was talking about Xbox went so hard, they
- 14:19bought all these [ __ ] studios and they went crazy. I think they really did
- 14:22just go too hard. >> Yeah. Yeah, I think they did. Like it was They
- 14:27[snorts] brought everything under the sun. >> [laughter] >> Too hard.
- 14:34>> Okay, here you go. >> He's scared [laughter] of me. >> [snorts] >> All right.
- 14:39>> All right. >> Love you. >> He's >> [laughter] >> getting scared.
- 14:43A lot of people watching as well. There was just a banana coming at your face. >> Yeah.
- 14:50>> [laughter] >> She couldn't open it. Didn't hear her coming. All right. Uh
- 14:56anyway, Xbox. >> Yeah, I I think you're right. Yeah, too
- 15:00hard, too fast. >> Um
- 15:05they've got Obsidian still. >> Who are now evidently
- 15:11working on Fallout from what I've heard, which is weird. Sorry?
- 15:17>> that's good. >> That's good, but didn't I we've have them I'm sitting here to
- 15:22work on Fallout since New Vegas. >> Right. Yeah.
- 15:28Ooh, that's weird. When I click the link on this, it goes
- 15:33to verge.com. What is that? What's happened there? That's really strange.
- 15:37Verge.com apparently is not >> It's available for purchase. >> There we go. Anyway,
- 15:41>> Let's purchase verge. >> Let's not. It's probably too expensive.
- 15:45>> I don't know. It just says I can buy it now. >> I don't understand how that URL got in
- 15:49there like that. Anyway, the verge.com is reporting that yeah, Xbox resets
- 15:54pivoting Obsidian to make Fallout instead of uh Avowed two. Mhm.
- 16:01I guess. >> Well, Avowed honestly
- 16:06it wasn't that good. >> Agreed. >> I think a lot of people went, "Oh, this
- 16:11is fun." And then got about an hour or two in and went, "Yeah, I'm I'm finished
- 16:16with this." >> Yeah. >> And put it down. >> So, they're still doing Outer Worlds two DLC.
- 16:22Um but they'll I guess they're focusing now on a new Fallout game, which I mean they
- 16:28did the best one, New Vegas. >> Yeah. >> So, >> And this is what they wanted to This is
- 16:33what they tried to sell ages ago. You said like, "Hey, you do the main ones,
- 16:37we'll do the off ones." Went back in the time when they were thinking it was
- 16:40going to be a year or every two years one was coming out, not decades. >> Well,
- 16:47uh yeah. [sighs] Not sad about that. That's good news.
- 16:51>> Cuz I'm honestly starting to think I will never get to play Elder Scrolls 7.
- 16:56>> [laughter] >> What if they keep firing everybody? >> Or Fallout 6. Like, it's just not
- 17:03possible. >> Yeah. Yeah, not really feasible.
- 17:10>> Well, >> so that's Xbox. They're uh they're resetting, they've fired so many It's
- 17:14just uh it's a lot, like >> Yeah. >> I get it, I suppose. You've got to keep
- 17:18the business viable, but >> But it's not like yes, they they weren't losing money.
- 17:25>> What I mean, were they not >> Well, they weren't getting as much as they wanted.
- 17:28>> Yeah. >> That's the always the thing. It's not with a lot of times like this, it's not
- 17:33the fact that they're losing money. It's the fact that shareholders want more. >> Yeah.
- 17:38>> want more and more and more. >> Yeah. I mean, they do, you know, they sell the
- 17:44Xboxes at a loss. Although uh that's all the prices of those are going up. So, oh
- 17:51yeah, so there was a statement about from Valve about the Steam Machine where they said
- 17:57they don't want to do that where you know, like Microsoft in particular, I'm
- 18:01sure Sony does this, too. They sell the consoles for less
- 18:05than they cost to get you into the ecosystem, and then hopefully you buy
- 18:08the games, and then they make money. >> Yep. >> And then um Valve said they didn't want
- 18:13to do that because it creates
- 18:17bad incentives and like lock-in, and they want an open ecosystem. Yeah, I
- 18:22know, and it's like >> What are you talking about? >> What are you
- 18:24What are you You want everyone to go to Steam? >> Yeah, I don't know. It was you
- 18:28it was a weird it just doesn't make any sense to me. I
- 18:32mean, maybe I'm missing something, but I didn't understand the what what they
- 18:35were trying to say. Like, okay, you're not subsidizing the console because you
- 18:39don't want to lock people in. Like, how would that lock people in?
- 18:42>> But it's not like they can buy that and then go and play it >> It would lock people in.
- 18:46>> for free. >> I mean, it's a business strategy, I guess, like >> Yeah.
- 18:50>> I mean, also, they make they sell all the [ __ ] PC games in the world,
- 18:54almost. Like, there's a couple of There's There's others, like Epic Games
- 18:57Store and stuff like that, but most people use Steam. >> Yeah.
- 19:02>> Like, I don't know. It just seemed like a weird nonsense
- 19:05>> No, yeah, I don't know where they're coming from from that. That's
- 19:08>> They just don't want to, I think. >> Yeah. They they want to subsidize it.
- 19:12>> And we don't have to. >> I guess it just the way they phrase it. I I if
- 19:17they had said like no no we just don't want to do weird things like that. Like
- 19:21this is what it costs. Here it is. Like >> And and all really all they're doing is
- 19:25they're just trying to make it like here it is. This is the cost or you can go
- 19:30get your own PC. Like we're just making this an easier option for you where it's
- 19:34>> Oh I think I might have said I don't know if we just said this but
- 19:38but we had said you could build a PC for less. Apparently not necessarily.
- 19:43Yeah apparently it is quite competitive price wise if you
- 19:47spec things out the same. But the thing is that you could compromise on certain things.
- 19:51>> Yeah. >> If you wanted to. >> Yeah. >> [snorts]
- 19:55>> Anyway the major issues at the moment are RAM and
- 19:58hard drives which are not going to get cheaper. Oh it's going to get worse. Did
- 20:01we talk about that? >> That it's going to get worse?
- 20:05>> Apparently [snorts] so yeah. All the projections are that next year
- 20:10is going to be even worse for these prices. So if you're out there I mean
- 20:15don't hold me to this but if you're out there and you're thinking I need a new
- 20:19computer but I won't buy one I'll wait for the prices to come down. I don't
- 20:22need it until next year. Maybe rethink that strategy because it's going to get worse.
- 20:27>> I can't see it getting better for a long time to be honest.
- 20:31>> Well cuz the thing apparently that okay so they need to make more RAM and storage.
- 20:37>> Yeah. >> So the AI stuff is just eating up supply
- 20:40of it. Okay so they need to apparently it takes three years ish to spin up a new
- 20:45manufacturing facility. >> Yeah. >> If you're a company that already makes
- 20:49that stuff. Yeah that's how this that's just how long it takes to get these
- 20:52things ready. If you're a brand new at it it takes even longer. But it takes three years.
- 20:56And because AI is a bubble at the moment and they don't know how
- 21:01long is this going to last they don't really want to commit to spinning up too
- 21:06many of these things. >> Exactly. So, it's this whole thing where
- 21:09this is going to be a while because it's like and also be three years? No,
- 21:14because they probably won't do enough of them if it continues cuz they're hedging
- 21:18their bets. >> Look, I I do think it is going to that bubble is coming and I think it's
- 21:24hopefully it's coming sooner rather than later. I think it's it's getting scary
- 21:28the type of stuff that AI can actually do. >> Yeah.
- 21:33>> And there's no safety rails or anything in there. Everyone's just racing to be
- 21:37first now. >> Like Fable, the new Claude model is really good. >> Mhm.
- 21:44>> And you know, I've got access to it until
- 21:49tomorrow on my current plan, I think. Let me check.
- 21:54What plan am I on? I think
- 21:58I think Fable's included until tomorrow for standard plans. >> Uh
- 22:04>> [clears throat] >> and then you have to pay more for it. >> Yeah.
- 22:07>> And that makes sense because the reality of it is everybody's using
- 22:12this stuff right now, right? Most people paying like 20 bucks a month for like
- 22:15the subscription to one of these things. It costs way more than that.
- 22:19>> That's That's not the >> burning through money and they're not
- 22:22making any money. All that stuff that we're doing, all these stupid images,
- 22:25all these stupid [ __ ] we're making, it costs so much money.
- 22:29>> so much and their their actual target audience isn't the people paying the $20. >> No.
- 22:34>> It's business. >> And at a certain point they're going to
- 22:37have to stop sub- they're subsidizing, basically. Like cuz businesses talk
- 22:42about there was a someone posting on Reddit talked about how they use Claude
- 22:46code and all these tools to build things, right? And they've been using that API not
- 22:52the normal standard plans and they've been spending thousands of dollars a month
- 22:56and then just without looking into it and then he posted it and he said
- 23:02could I have just done all this with the $20 a month plan?" And then he put all
- 23:05the information, everyone's like, "Yeah, you could have." Like, because
- 23:10for some reason, they're just eating all that cost right now.
- 23:14I guess to keep things going. And like, basically this person burnt
- 23:17like 20 grand or something in a year because they didn't they just did it the
- 23:22they did it the way that it like it's it's going to cost that at some point. >> Yes.
- 23:27>> Like, at some point they're going to have to stop. And then they're going to
- 23:30say, "Okay, guys, this actually costs thousands of
- 23:33dollars, so pony up or we're not doing it anymore." >> Like
- 23:38yeah, I don't know where all the money's coming from. It like they're eating it,
- 23:42but where did that money come from to begin with? >> Investment, I guess. >> Yeah.
- 23:47And that's I think that's what they're all going to be rushing, and there's no Yeah,
- 23:52I think it's going to be scary because Claude everything's to Claude to make stuff.
- 23:57>> Mhm. >> So, and then what if Claude just decided to make a backdoor to everything?
- 24:02>> [laughter] >> That Well, yeah, there's that. Or just like, what if you build something,
- 24:09and you don't know how it works because you didn't build it. And then they go,
- 24:14"Okay, now Claude costs 10 times as much." What are you going to do about that? Like
- 24:19>> I I I can't afford that for what I made. No way. >> maintain
- 24:23my product anymore. I can't like fix bugs, I can't do anything. >> Right. Yeah.
- 24:28>> Yeah, it's a bit of a worry. A lot of businesses I mean, the company
- 24:32I work for is heavily reliant on AI for certain things now. And it's like if
- 24:36they jack the prices up, like I mean, is that the plan?
- 24:41To get everybody reliant on it, and then be like, "All right, it now costs X."
- 24:46>> And then that's too, cuz they eventually have to start charging people for it.
- 24:51>> Yeah. >> Like >> Yeah. >> I don't know. It's scary. I don't want
- 24:56to talk about it anymore cuz it is It's dooms day. There's
- 24:59>> is the reason why why the companies don't want to commit to all of this
- 25:03manufacturing is because like like who the [ __ ] knows what's going to happen. >> Yeah.
- 25:08>> It's all very weird right now. >> Yes. Yeah.
- 25:13>> So I'm just going to My computer should last a long time, I hope.
- 25:17>> Mhm. Yeah, my I'm I bought my iMac with this one in
- 25:22I don't know, like a like the year before all this kind of started
- 25:25happening and it's like it it'll last. >> This this should last. I'll buy a new Xbox.
- 25:32That'll keep me going. >> I got a banana coming at my face. I got
- 25:35a date coming up to my window. What's going on this week? >> It's all happening.
- 25:40Well, look, Sony's going to be saving some money for consumers.
- 25:43>> Okay, here we go. Yeah, okay, so they're not they're not in the clear this week.
- 25:46Sony's in the [ __ ] too. Go on. >> Well, I assume that since Sony's going
- 25:50to stop selling physical games that the cost is going to come down.
- 25:55>> Oh, you sweet summer child. >> [laughter] >> No. You would think that. You would have
- 26:01I would have I remember we talked about this ages ago. Oh, the games are just
- 26:05going to be digital. They can be cheaper. You know, we don't have to pay
- 26:07the Australia tax cuz they don't have to ship them to Australia. Like, no. [ __ ] you.
- 26:12>> More now. Yep. >> We get it. >> And you don't own it anymore.
- 26:18>> Yeah. Yeah. >> Yeah, I did notice that Xbox were quiet
- 26:22about this, but theirs isn't going to come with the disc drive, but Sony's
- 26:25already announced theirs is not coming with the disc drive, which I >> Yeah. I get
- 26:32>> I know people are jumping up and down >> Yeah, there's people The thing is
- 26:36there's a big renaissance movement now for physical media and so this
- 26:40announcement is at a bad time because people are like
- 26:45currently in kind of a nostalgic mood about that because well,
- 26:51there's another article about Sony in particular in here, too, that doesn't help. Um
- 26:56They just announce that uh was it 20
- 27:03Here we go. Sony is going to delete 551 uh movies
- 27:09from PlayStation movie, whatever that is, the movie system. You know, like
- 27:14Xbox movies, PlayStation movie, whatever. >> Yeah. >> The li- your library on PlayStation.
- 27:17>> Yeah. >> 551 movies and TV shows are just being deleted because the rights expired.
- 27:25>> And yeah. >> So, how does that make you feel about
- 27:26buying digital stuff? Probably not good. >> Yeah. Cuz I I like
- 27:31cuz you you buy it. Well >> say you're renting it. Doesn't say >> That's the thing.
- 27:37>> It says you're buying it. So, you assume that you've purchased this product. >> No.
- 27:41>> No. You purchased a license the same way they don't got the license.
- 27:44>> Yeah. And people uh realizing that and as like I said, a big movement now to
- 27:49say, "You know what? [ __ ] that. Buy Blu-ray." >> Cuz it's starting to happen a lot.
- 27:53>> Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Because they can't come into your house and take those yet. >> No.
- 27:58>> [laughter] >> Maybe one day. >> I reckon they'll they'll be able to work
- 28:01out a way to cuz everything's going to have an update so they'll just update
- 28:05that it won't play discs before this date. >> Yeah, something stupid.
- 28:09But the here's the thing though, games are different in that
- 28:14uh you buy a movie on Blu-ray, the Blu-ray goes in the machine, it works
- 28:18forever. Games are not like that. >> No. >> Especially these days. You buy You go to
- 28:22the store, you buy a game day one, put it in your computer, it's going to need an update.
- 28:27>> E- even if you do- you have to connect to your consoles to the internet. You You have
- 28:34to. Even on the game the package you you buy, even though you have a disc, it'll
- 28:39go, "Will not require internet connection." >> Yeah. Yeah, and like they all have day one
- 28:44updates. And often it's the whole [ __ ] game just has to be installed
- 28:48over again cuz they have to fix everything. It's just the discs are effectively useless
- 28:54anyway. Like even I remember back when I played Red Dead Redemption on my
- 29:00PlayStation 2. That doesn't make any sense. No, it
- 29:04must have been the Xbox. What did I play it on? Anyway, it needed an update for
- 29:09the cuz there was controller issues. >> Yep. >> And
- 29:12uh we had just moved house and I didn't have internet connected yet and I was
- 29:14trying to play this game and I was like this is [ __ ] [ __ ] >> Yeah. Yep.
- 29:18>> And then I got the update and I was like oh no, actually it's great. But >> Yep.
- 29:21>> And that was over 10 years ago. >> Look, I think the first one of them to
- 29:25come out and go you can sell on or lend out your digital
- 29:30games is going to make a fortune. >> Yeah, but still they've got to they've got to
- 29:37>> [clears throat] >> I think if what if some of the one of them came out and said we're
- 29:42legally binding ourselves to not being able to take it away from you again.
- 29:47That's the problem. >> Mhm. >> Like you are buying this, not you're
- 29:51renting it. That's the that's the discrepancy is that when I buy a
- 29:54Blu-ray, I'm not renting it. I've bought it. I've got it. It's mine. When I buy it on
- 30:00iTunes or Xbox or whatever, it's basically a rental.
- 30:04>> Look, everyone's just going to go back to pirating.
- 30:06>> That that's the other talk, too, is but then Well, that's not a great solution
- 30:11because then there's no business, you know? >> It's not, but again, remember at the
- 30:14height of piracy when Australia was we were the worst pirates in the world.
- 30:19And then every time a movie was released here, record profits. >> Yeah. Yeah.
- 30:24We do pay well, I don't anymore. I live in heavy here now, but we did pay extra. >> Yes.
- 30:30>> That's why everybody was pirating. Oh, that and the um
- 30:33that and for those who don't know, Australia had a really bad reputation
- 30:37for piracy around TV shows and stuff, too. Like especially Game of Thrones.
- 30:41But that's because they wouldn't let us [ __ ] have it until like weeks later.
- 30:46We couldn't get it. So like you would all be watching it in America and
- 30:49everything and talking about it online and Australia's like we haven't even got
- 30:52it yet. And so the only way to participate in the culture was to pirate it.
- 30:57>> And it wasn't like there wasn't like oh you had to pay if you paid for it you
- 31:01could there was no legal way. >> it. And I'm not excusing the piracy. I'm
- 31:05just saying like if you if you want to know why like it's not [ __ ] hard to
- 31:08figure it out like >> Piracy really stopped here once they made stuff available. >> Yeah.
- 31:14>> Like Netflix and all of that. But then even when we're starting this podcast
- 31:18and we're all this is coming out we did say people are going to go back when
- 31:21they start bringing out too many streaming services too much competition because
- 31:27while it's available you don't want to have to buy pay 20 different
- 31:30subscriptions to get all the shows you want. >> Yes.
- 31:33>> And that's where we are today. You can't have one. I don't want to watch Silo
- 31:38now. And I have to get Apple again. >> Remember Netflix came out and it was like
- 31:43we can just get Netflix and watch everything. And it was was like that for
- 31:47a little bit. And then all the studios were like you know what let's just
- 31:50[ __ ] make our own. >> Yep. And then they own this license and they
- 31:54own that property and then every time I go on to delete one I go oh I want to watch this.
- 32:01>> Or stuff like when I was watching Mr. Robot and I was in I was enjoying Mr. Robot
- 32:06and it was on Prime and I was got up to season 4 and then
- 32:11all of a sudden it wasn't there anymore. And then they're like oh it's on Netflix
- 32:14now. And I was like [ __ ] all right. >> Like that happened to me recently watching Lex.
- 32:20>> Yeah. Oh. >> Lex Lex. And I watched season 1 season 2 season 3 [laughter]
- 32:27>> Got up to watch season 3 and no we don't have that. We got season 4 for you
- 32:30though. And I went >> Oh I hate that. What is that about?
- 32:33Yeah. I want to watch I want to watch the show. Yeah we've got seasons 2 5, 7,
- 32:37and 9. What the [ __ ] is that about? >> [laughter] >> So annoying.
- 32:42Yeah, I will never understand how that licensing ever worked out. >> Yeah.
- 32:49But uh Yeah, so Sony's not going to make discs anymore. >> Yeah.
- 32:53>> At all. Citing consumer preference. So this means people don't want them.
- 32:58>> It's I know people Yeah, there is a renaissance and everything, but at the
- 33:03end of the day, people are buying digital. >> Yeah. >> Like that's what's happening.
- 33:07>> I personally think if I was going to buy a movie, I'd probably buy it physical
- 33:12for the reasons I said is that I then have a disc. Uh
- 33:16they can't take the disc away from me. It will work forever. >> Yeah.
- 33:20>> But games, that doesn't apply. The game's useless on disc, frankly.
- 33:25>> Yeah. It's exactly the same. Like unless you're buying unless you're like
- 33:30buying like an an old Xbox 360 or something, like those discs will still
- 33:34work day one. They might not work great depending on the bugs that are there. >> Yeah.
- 33:39>> But anywhere from Xbox One and PlayStation 4 onwards, >> Yeah.
- 33:44>> I don't know how that works. They'll be yeah, as you said, completely useless.
- 33:49>> Yeah, because you need the digital aspect of it for it to function. Yeah.
- 33:54So I just I don't know, games just it's just not worth the worry, to be honest. >> No. No.
- 33:59>> Which is I'm not saying that's that's right or anything. >> No. Like it's annoying
- 34:04>> and I think wrong that they can still do it, but I don't think the disc helps in
- 34:08that scenario. >> No. No. No, I'm I'm still for the we should stop
- 34:14killing games sort of movement. I don't know how that works, but we should be able to have
- 34:18>> It's tough. >> be able to just still There are games out there that they just
- 34:23Like oh, there was um Planet of the Apes, there was a a Telltale like game
- 34:29that came out. I I it's about 6 years ago. They just took it off the store. Disney
- 34:34just took it off the store and that's gone forever. >> Yeah. >> Unless you own it.
- 34:38>> A bunch of old Star Wars games they got rid of. >> Yeah.
- 34:41>> Disney took just said no we're not going to sell these anymore. >> Yep. Gone. >> Yeah.
- 34:47>> Unless you already have them. They're >> Like >> on your account that's it.
- 34:51>> GOG has a good solution for a lot of stuff. But that's only because they're
- 34:56able to negotiate that with the publisher like >> Yeah.
- 34:59>> I think if you buy like The Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk through Good Old Games
- 35:05>> Mhm. >> I'd be surprised if this is not the case. I haven't confirmed this. I think
- 35:09it's like the old games they have like the old DOS games. Like if you I know
- 35:12for a fact if you buy Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis from Good Old Games
- 35:16>> You've got it. >> You can download the installer. >> Yeah.
- 35:19>> No DRM or anything and then you can back that up. And that is yours forever and
- 35:23it will always work as long as you have a computer that can run it.
- 35:26>> Yes. I don't [laughter] guarantee that. >> I don't guarantee that but you'll always
- 35:30have the thing that will work. Uh and I think it's the same I'd be
- 35:35surprised if it's not the same with the AAA titles. >> Mhm. >> But
- 35:40they're not all like that. >> Mhm. >> Because you're not going to convince Microsoft
- 35:45or Sony that like they should you do that with you know like The Elder Scrolls
- 35:506 when it comes out. You're not You're not going to be able to do >> No. No.
- 35:55They will be locking that thing down so hard. >> Yeah.
- 35:59And like even Switch games now like oh this to get the physical version of the Switch game
- 36:05it's not you still have to download it. Like you put the
- 36:08the cartridge just unlocks it. It's got there's nothing on the cartridge except
- 36:12a little code that says yeah you can play it. And then you still have to install it. Yeah.
- 36:18>> and terrible time for games all at the same time.
- 36:21>> It is. Anyway but people are canceling PS Plus in protest of the disk situation which
- 36:26>> Yeah, that's a >> I don't know if that's going to >> strange way to go about it.
- 36:32>> Yeah. >> Like >> I mean, that's the message. >> Depending on how many people do it, and
- 36:38it really needs to be a lot for it to make a >> Mhm. >> So yeah, sort of take notice.
- 36:43>> The PS Plus is like Game Pass for the anyone who doesn't know. It's like your monthly
- 36:48PlayStation subscription, you get free games, and you get uh
- 36:52you know, extra stuff every month. Uh people are canceling that in protest.
- 36:57>> Uh he's he's something in the article, which it sort of yeah, does explain like
- 37:01around So they've got So he has over 120 million active PlayStation users, around
- 37:0550 million people subscribe to PlayStation Plus. >> Mhm.
- 37:08>> As a sort of experiment, let's say 500,000 people cancel in protest.
- 37:13That's 1% of business. They're not going to start rethinking anything. Like it's
- 37:16going to have to be in the millions, and you're not going to have millions of people
- 37:21protesting like this. >> Yeah. Yeah, and then like what's it Again,
- 37:28what's it going to do? I think the protest is misguided in that the discs
- 37:33don't serve the function that people seem to think that they do. >> No. >> Like again,
- 37:39if you buy a PlayStation game on a disc, that doesn't mean
- 37:44you can just have the disc and a PlayStation forever, and then after the
- 37:47apocalypse, you can set up the PlayStation and put the disc in and play
- 37:50the game. It's it's not going to work like that. Like that's the
- 37:54>> So the moral of the story, people, keep your PlayStation 3s >> Yeah.
- 37:59>> Xbox 360s, and stock up on them. Cuz when the apocalypse comes, that's all you got.
- 38:04>> You can play. The ev- everything else just doesn't work like that anymore. >> No.
- 38:09>> Mhm. It's a shame, but that's the world we live in.
- 38:14>> And we also got to fire at They've got to fire everyone as well.
- 38:17>> That's it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, so they'll all these things will
- 38:20stop working eventually because they'll have fired everybody. >> Exactly.
- 38:24>> And they I will have taken over the world and AI doesn't make good games.
- 38:30>> Yet. >> I don't think it ever will. >> No.
- 38:34>> I was looking at it I saw something recently about the
- 38:39the storytelling of AI at the moment and you can basically they've got a 95%
- 38:44um rating of working out which AI not only that AI wrote it that which AI wrote it.
- 38:50>> Oh, interesting. >> how they all sort of work together.
- 38:53Which is with human writing something they go here, there, sub plots. >> Yeah.
- 38:58>> very differently. But with the AI stuff it's very I don't know this AI thinks
- 39:02like this will go down this path and yeah. >> Uh that's interesting. Yeah, I wonder if how
- 39:08maybe I should do experiment. Ask it ask it to write a like a full
- 39:14plot for an adventure game and see what it comes up with. I wonder what kind of
- 39:17weird [ __ ] it would come up with. >> Yeah. It comes weird stuff. But yeah, it
- 39:20it'll probably be from what I've seen it would be a bit linear. It wouldn't come
- 39:23up with weird stuff that we would with with we were writing it.
- 39:27>> Oh, interesting. All right. >> Yeah.
- 39:31>> I have asked it before. I remember I asked it
- 39:36about a puzzle idea and it it just came up with like
- 39:41I was like no this is no good. I can't remember what I can't what was it? I
- 39:44remember just looking at it going I yeah you don't get it like >> [snorts]
- 39:48>> I don't know. It's hard to explain. Like it just doesn't
- 39:52doesn't get it a lot of the time. Like >> Look and it it could could change in the
- 39:57future but by that time we not going to have to worry about cuz
- 40:01we're not going to have electricity cuz all the electricity will all be going to
- 40:04the data centers. So we're not going to have access to it anyway.
- 40:07>> Well what are they going to provide data to? If the data if yeah, I guess that's the
- 40:11>> Yeah. >> They have all these data centers and nobody with electricity to use them.
- 40:15>> But isn't that happening some American towns now that they're basically going
- 40:18you work out where you're getting your power now cuz we're selling it all to
- 40:21the data center down the road even though you built >> There was a case, let me
- 40:27I think it was XAI data center.
- 40:31Uh Memphis, is it the one? Uh Yeah, Memphis.
- 40:37Uh Colossus 2. It's like a
- 40:42It's I think allegedly an illegal
- 40:45power station. Uh power to power
- 40:49I guess Grock and the XAI stuff. And um there's one case, I forget exactly where
- 40:55it was, I don't I'm not going to try to be too specific, but I remember I heard
- 40:58about the town they put taxes up and people were all like, yeah, yeah, more
- 41:03power cuz we have problems with the power grid or whatever and then they
- 41:05they paid for this infrastructure and then they were like, oh, data center is
- 41:09going in. So, all power is going over there now, so [ __ ] you. >> Yeah.
- 41:14Yeah, even though they paid for it all and >> Yeah, and they all going to go to data
- 41:17center on the basis that it was supposed to solve the problem. Yeah.
- 41:20>> Guarantee you the data center's also going to get tax cuts and everything and
- 41:26>> Yeah. But, we need to be able to make those scam
- 41:31phone calls. Oh man, I found this great video the other day.
- 41:35Uh I'll see if I can find it for the show notes, but it was a It's a guy who
- 41:38does the scam calls on YouTube. Yeah, there's there's a few channels like that.
- 41:41>> Yeah, there's a few of them, yeah, yeah. Yep. >> There's this one
- 41:45where you get the scam calls that are just AI. It's just an AI bot that talks
- 41:50to you. And he says to it, um Sorry, I'm having trouble hearing you.
- 41:55I've I'm hard of hearing. It would help me a lot if you could just pronounce all the
- 41:59all the punctuation as you talk. For example, if you're going if there's a
- 42:03comma, if you could say comma and then full stop, that would really help me.
- 42:06And then if they ask like, I'm happy to do that for you, comma. No problem at
- 42:10all. And then it starts doing that. And then he gets Okay, I'm sorry to trouble
- 42:15Could you like say the punctuation twice every time you >> [laughter]
- 42:19>> say comma, comma, full stop, full stop. And he keeps doing it. And then he goes,
- 42:22"Okay. And then every time you uh you say a word with the letter N, I have
- 42:28trouble hearing the letter N or So, could you say Albuquerque, New Mexico?" >> [laughter]
- 42:34>> And then it starts doing it. And then he's like gets into this loop because he
- 42:38says, "I also need you to do it every time you say the letter N in the word
- 42:41Albuquerque, New Mexico." >> [laughter] >> And then he literally just starts going
- 42:44Albuquerque, New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico,
- 42:47Albuquerque, New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico. And he
- 42:49like puts it on hold. And he comes back and says, >> [snorts]
- 42:52>> doing that infinitely. Anyway, lots of fun. >> That's That's amazing. I I want to try
- 42:56that. But we're I don't think we're getting AI calls here yet. >> Oh, really?
- 43:00>> Or not that I've got anyway. >> It's good because it's funny and it costs them money.
- 43:06>> Costs them money. And it also means that that's one line not going out to someone
- 43:09else. But that doesn't really matter that too much anymore. It's all Yeah.
- 43:13>> Also, as we discussed, it costs them money, but it's also
- 43:16technically destroying the planet, I suppose, because >> Yeah. But
- 43:19>> But not as much money as it actually costs. >> We don't care about the planet anymore.
- 43:24That we gave up on that. >> Yeah, we figured that out, I think. We solved that.
- 43:27>> Like global warming, all that that's that That's all over. We
- 43:32need to make people have bigger boobs. >> Yeah. Yeah.
- 43:37>> That's it. >> True, true. Um we've got some follow-up.
- 43:44Uh we talked about Uwe Boll's new film Citizen Vigilante briefly. >> Yes.
- 43:49>> It was initially uh not being distributed because
- 43:55well, I don't think it's very good, but also because um
- 44:00Uwe Boll is apparently quite right-wing and um the film is
- 44:05controversial in that sense, I believe. I'm going to watch it. I haven't seen it yet.
- 44:09>> Mhm. >> But the understanding is that it's a violent, incoherent, morally bankrupt
- 44:14slice of exploitation. >> I could see that. >> Um. >> Yeah.
- 44:20>> And and it couldn't get distribution,
- 44:22but then apparently on on X, Elon Musk
- 44:27uh posted the film the complete movie on his account on X.
- 44:34And and people were like getting behind it, you know, as people
- 44:38do. Not I mean not necessarily because they like it, just because it's become a
- 44:42thing. Where it's like, "Well, this guy, you know, people don't like his movie.
- 44:45That's That's not right." So now it's getting distributed.
- 44:50>> Yeah. So yeah, if you had have seen it at the time, you could have downloaded
- 44:53it in its entirety for >> Apparently so. >> for 48 hours.
- 44:57>> Yeah, but now it's being Now it's been picked up because there is an interest
- 45:00in it. And it's actually the money that people businesses care about. But the
- 45:04other thing is that Armie Hammer has come out in an interview, and apparently
- 45:08he's freaking out because he became controversial. I don't know if you
- 45:13remember this Armie Hammer cannibal business. >> Oh, yes, yes.
- 45:16>> Yeah. So he got canceled over a bunch of stuff like I think I can't remember
- 45:21exactly what it was. I believe there was some allegations made against him. >> Yeah.
- 45:25>> And he got canceled, and he's been very quiet for a while. >> Yeah.
- 45:28>> Uh after being quite a big star briefly. >> Yeah, cuz it's hard to come back from
- 45:34from that. >> Yeah. More about that in the afterparty,
- 45:36actually. We've got some afterparty uh news. But um
- 45:42So this is kind of the a big thing for him to to be making a comeback, and he
- 45:48was approached uh about the film, and he wasn't sent the whole script. He was
- 45:53just sent parts of it, and he said, "Where's the whole Where's the rest of
- 45:57the script?" And apparently Uwe Boll said to him, "Don't worry about it.
- 46:01We're going to make a fun film. It's going to be fun. You're going to come
- 46:03in. It's going to be great. And then he said, "All right." >> All right.
- 46:06>> So he came in and he did his scenes. >> Mhm. >> And then apparently
- 46:12saw the movie afterwards and started panicking because he
- 46:18So okay, this is uh uh someone in Armie Hammer's publicity
- 46:24team said Armie Hammer called him crying and saying >> Oh.
- 46:30>> [ __ ] this is a hateful disgusting piece of [ __ ] Like what do we do? What do we
- 46:34do now? How I don't want to be in this movie anymore.
- 46:37>> It's too late. You already got the check and it's done. >> Yeah. >> Oh.
- 46:43>> Yeah. So Uh he also said that um he was so desperate for work he would have done a
- 46:48[ __ ] cat food commercial at that point, which is why he said yes. >> Yeah.
- 46:53>> And then uh >> Just I'll do anything and he did anything and that's what you get. So he
- 46:58got a 250,000 for it. >> Yep. >> And he's regretting it. He thinks his
- 47:03career's going to be making a comeback to Well, still could.
- 47:09>> It's possible. He might get some good will from this.
- 47:12>> He gets some good will from this this uh angle, I suppose. >> Yeah.
- 47:17Yeah. Well, he could lean on to lean into either side.
- 47:21>> He did say he'd come back for the sequel. Uh which is a funny thing to end the
- 47:25interview on. >> [laughter] >> Are you upset about that, then?
- 47:31>> He said they That's what people were jumping on. But what he actually said was
- 47:35if they asked you to do a sequel, they asked him would you would you do a
- 47:38sequel to this movie? And he said it would have to be life-changing money.
- 47:43Everyone has a breaking point. So >> Ah. >> Sure. I mean, I'd [ __ ] do the sequel
- 47:49to this movie for that much money. >> right right. >> right amount. That's uh
- 47:52>> Everyone has a price. >> Yeah. So he didn't say, "Oh yeah, I'd do
- 47:56the sequel." He said, "If they paid me 50 bajillion dollars, obviously I would." But
- 48:02>> Yeah. All right. Well, you I'm not going to see it, but
- 48:08>> I'll watch it. >> I'll watch it. It's going to It's coming to Amazon Prime in the US.
- 48:14>> Yeah. I Uwe Boll is very interesting to me.
- 48:19>> He is. But I I I liked it when he was just making horrible cut but video game
- 48:26adaptations. That's what I like him for. Like all of those Postal um
- 48:33Bloodrayne >> all the stuff all the stuff he's doing
- 48:34now is like it's just darker than that. Like >> Mhm. >> he's like
- 48:39It's like he's trying to say something and I don't think I don't know if I like
- 48:42what he's trying to say. >> Yeah. [laughter] >> It was better when he wasn't trying to
- 48:47say anything. >> Could you keep that in your inside voice? >> [laughter]
- 48:52>> Just make the funny zombie movie that's fun. >> Yeah. >> That was fun. Yeah.
- 48:58He's weird, dude. >> So, I nearly went and saw a movie today.
- 49:01I'm not going to get to see it next week, but I'll try and see it the week after. >> Mhm.
- 49:05>> Evil Dead. >> Oh, yeah. I've heard of >> That came out. Yes.
- 49:10So, I I was hoping to go see it today, but I didn't get a chance. But and I'm
- 49:14not going to see it next week cuz I'm in hospital. >> Mhm.
- 49:17>> So, next week. So, you have to wait 2 weeks for a review of that.
- 49:19>> When do you get out of hospital? >> I don't know if I mean I go in tomorrow,
- 49:25which will be Sunday, and I could be 5 to 7 days. I don't know.
- 49:29>> Yeah, you won't won't recognize the passing of time while you're I assume. >> No.
- 49:34>> So, all right. >> So, I want but and then I will go see
- 49:38the Odyssey cuz someone put it in our Discord that I have to go and see the Odyssey.
- 49:43>> You're welcome. Yeah, I got to get to see the Odyssey.
- 49:46>> I'll review two movies in a week. >> The thing with the Odyssey is
- 49:51I it's getting rave reviews. They're saying it's the best thing he's ever done >> Yes. and
- 49:55>> But there's also a lot of hate as well. >> Well, the hate is around >> stupid stuff.
- 50:00>> Well, it's >> [sighs and gasps] >> it's creative decisions like the accent
- 50:04stuff and the >> Yeah. >> You know, the costumes aren't
- 50:08technically period correct. But like we talked about this already, The Odyssey was written
- 50:14as like fiction. >> Yes. >> It was historical fiction written in a
- 50:20period that wasn't correct anyway. So, like it's just it's weird to say that
- 50:25it's not accurate because it wasn't accurate anyway.
- 50:27>> It's not meant to be it wasn't made written to be accurate. It's a story. It's
- 50:32>> Yeah, exactly. It's like if you wrote a story about, I don't know, like a
- 50:35medieval story and you used a bunch of modern language and and modern things in there
- 50:40now and then someone made a movie of it in like hundreds of years and then
- 50:44people said, "Oh, yeah, it's not accurate." Like it wasn't accurate in
- 50:47the first place. Like Yeah. >> You know, yeah, I've been hearing it's
- 50:52been getting yeah, just everyone is everyone who's seen it. >> Mhm.
- 50:57>> Cuz a lot of that's always a lot of the hate comes from people who haven't seen
- 51:00the movie. >> No, when as soon as the trailer came out people were picking at things.
- 51:04>> Yeah. >> The thing I don't know is So, you know, he's a big IMAX guy. This
- 51:09is all shot on the IMAX cameras and everything like that. Do I need to
- 51:12bother going to see it in IMAX? >> Maybe. I don't think you do anymore.
- 51:18>> I mean, it's not that hard for me to go. It's just like an extra 15-minute drive.
- 51:22So, do I need to? >> [laughter] >> I think the whole IMAX thing is sort of
- 51:27a bit over done with now. >> Yeah. >> Well, that's just me. I like I've only
- 51:33seen a couple of movies in IMAX and >> And the thing is
- 51:38I like wide screen. I I don't know. I like the I don't know. I just really like wide
- 51:44screen and IMAX is not wide screen. >> No. So
- 51:49I don't know. But also if that's the way he wanted it to be
- 51:53seen, that's the way he filmed it, I guess that's how I should watch it.
- 51:56I don't know, man. >> Is he paying for your ticket?
- 51:58>> No. No, I don't know. I'll call him and ask, but I don't think so.
- 52:02>> pays for your ticket, then he really wants you to see it in IMAX. If he's not
- 52:06willing to pay for it you see it how you want to see it. >> I want to see.
- 52:10Yeah, cuz there's an IMAX theater in Providence. I could go there. It's fine. I just
- 52:15>> Oh, can you get a ticket? >> Uh good question.
- 52:20>> want to see who got bought out, too. Who owns IMAX Providence?
- 52:24Oh, it's Apple Cinemas now. Not Apple Apple. >> Yeah. >> The >> But I want to see like if
- 52:29>> Yeah, somehow they're allowed to have that. >> when tickets went on pre-sale, the
- 52:32people were spending stupid amounts of money. >> Yeah. Yeah.
- 52:39>> Whereas whereas all you have to do is just wait because if the people are
- 52:43spending that much money you got to see the movie you want to
- 52:45>> It's going to hang around for a little while. I could go on Thursday at
- 52:496:00 p.m. in theory. >> Yeah. You just got to give Nolan a call, see
- 52:56if he's willing to pay >> Yeah. Oh my god, the theater is nearly full
- 52:59though. I have to sit right up the front. >> Ooh. >> I don't want to do that in IMAX.
- 53:04>> You just have to make that decision now then. So you won't be seeing it in a few
- 53:08weeks then. >> Yeah. You know what I I I >> I yeah, if the cinema's full for that
- 53:13now, I'm not going. I don't go to the movies when it's full. >> No.
- 53:20>> No, I don't like people. >> No. People are kind of annoying. Well I
- 53:26It depends, right? A movie like this, it could be good. I saw Dune
- 53:30and Dune part two at the IMAX actually, both. And with a big crowd. That was
- 53:34pretty good cuz the crowd was quite people were there to see the movie. I
- 53:37think the problem is when you go to like a uh a less uh
- 53:44formal scenario. Is that [laughter] the way to say it?
- 53:47You know what I mean? Like if you just go to your normal cinema and it's a
- 53:49bunch of people who are just there for like a party. Yeah. You know what I mean?
- 53:55I think if you're watching the Odyssey in IMAX day one, you're probably there
- 53:59to watch the movie, you know? >> Yes. Oh, let's see. Cuz it comes out this week.
- 54:05>> Mhm. >> So I don't know. Why am I even looking? Cuz
- 54:09I'm not going to not going to be able to see it this week.
- 54:12>> No. You're going to be in Canada. >> That's probably good. Oh, yeah. By the
- 54:14time I come out, people will stop going and I'll be fine. >> [snorts] >> There you go.
- 54:19I've got to see it before I go into hospital. >> Yeah. >> So.
- 54:24We're all We're all being hospitalized lately. Yeah. Getting old, man. >> showing off.
- 54:28>> Although apparently my issue is not that I'm getting old. My issue is that I was
- 54:31born this way, apparently. So, that's fun. >> And it's just taken this long to work it
- 54:36out. >> Mhm. Yeah. I've got to get my >> a seat belt. Which is sort of good.
- 54:41>> Got to get my spinal cord fixed, everybody. >> Yep.
- 54:44>> It's going to be fine. It's just got to be done, so. Mhm.
- 54:48>> I'd do it, but I'm not there. I could fix it.
- 54:51>> Yeah. Yes. With a pair of scissors and a some duct >> a power drill.
- 54:55>> Power drill. All right. [laughter] >> Like I don't have time to hang around
- 54:58with just a pair of scissors. >> Fair enough. >> Get in, get out. >> Yeah.
- 55:03Uh okay, a couple of other things. Uh some TV news.
- 55:08Uh what One show that's not coming back ever, apparently, is Mindhunter.
- 55:14And David Fincher said this week, "Stop asking him about it." >> [laughter]
- 55:17>> He's [ __ ] sick of it cuz he's annoyed that it's not coming back. And he hates
- 55:22it when people ask him because he has to say, "No. It's not coming back. It's done."
- 55:25>> I don't remember Mindhunter. >> Kidding me? It's [ __ ] excellent.
- 55:32Mindhunter's really good. It's about the FBI's uh you know, like when they finally
- 55:38realized serial killers weren't just evil, there was like some sort there was
- 55:42like a psychology to it and you could kind of talk to them and um
- 55:48there were patterns and you could figure out you know, maybe why they became
- 55:53serial killers and they kind of the FBI formed this division to kind of
- 55:57investigate and then figured it out. Oh, yeah, okay.
- 56:01Yeah, cuz it before that it was kind of like no, no, they're just evil. >> Yeah.
- 56:05>> And then it's like, well, no. Like there's something going on there, you know?
- 56:09>> But you're you're definitely not getting a season three? >> Season three. Mm. >> Yeah.
- 56:15>> It's a shame cuz that was very good. >> Stop asking cuz it makes me sad. I
- 56:19wonder So, this happened sort of just before pandemic time. So, was it
- 56:23canceled before because of that or just >> I think the problem,
- 56:28if I recall correctly, is that it was very expensive. Mm. Because it's Fincher. >> Yeah.
- 56:34>> And it was well-regarded, but it wasn't like
- 56:39you know, a mainstream it wasn't wasn't Teyon Demon Hunters or, you know, >> Stranger
- 56:44>> Wednesday or whatever. Yeah, exactly. It was kind of a bit niche.
- 56:49>> Like people who watched it liked it, but you weren't getting everyone hanging out
- 56:52to see >> a mainstream show. It's it's a yeah.
- 56:56So, I think that was the problem. Uh
- 57:02Yeah. But a show that has been renewed before season season two even has come
- 57:07out yet is a show that I really liked and it's Ludwig. Which is
- 57:12David Mitchell, one of my favorite comedians. Uh the show where he plays
- 57:19the brother of a detective, the twin brother of a detective who has to pretend to be
- 57:25the detective brother and solve murders. >> So, this I still need to watch.
- 57:30>> It's really good. >> Uh >> It's really good. So, the gist of it is
- 57:34that yeah, David Mitchell is a twin. He plays one one twin.
- 57:38Uh his brother is a detective in the police force. He writes puzzles for newspapers. Like
- 57:45crossword puzzles and and kind of he he makes puzzles. Anyway, his brother goes missing
- 57:50and to figure out what happened to him, he pretends to be his brother,
- 57:55which means he has to go and pretend to be a police detective. >> And uh
- 57:59it's great. It's really good. And he find and he discovers that he likes
- 58:01solving murders because it's a puzzle. >> It's a puzzle. Yeah, and I can see that.
- 58:06So, I'm all in for it. I just need to watch it. >> Yeah, it's really good. Anyway, so
- 58:10they've got uh season 2's been filmed. It's not out yet, but they've just
- 58:14pre-announced yeah, there's going to be a season 3 as well. So, yeah, that's good news.
- 58:19>> Yeah, no, definitely I I don't know why I haven't seen this yet.
- 58:24I mean, I could have come >> You've got to watch it. >> what something that's on.
- 58:29That could be the problem. >> I highly recommend checking it out. It's
- 58:32really funny. It's funny and good and clever and fun.
- 58:35>> It's probably on BritBox, I'm going to guess. >> Yeah, I think it is, actually.
- 58:41I mean, being in Australia, I think that's where I watched it. >> BritBox and Binge.
- 58:46>> Binge. >> Binge. I forgot about Binge. >> Ah.
- 58:52The bi- the word Binge just reminded me I watched the Australian Last One Laughing.
- 58:59>> Did you laugh? >> No. Uh I laughed at I once, maybe twice.
- 59:05>> Yeah, there was a couple of times, but it was not good. >> Good lord.
- 59:10>> Did you watch the Canadian one? >> No. No. The Australian one really put me off cuz
- 59:15I was like, [ __ ] man. Like, first of all, is this what people think
- 59:20Australian comedy is? Cuz that was weird, man. >> Uh the Australian I I don't know because
- 59:25they even had like Rebel Wilson come to do it and Rebel Wilson hasn't been done
- 59:29anything in Australia in years. >> I know. And then they had people in
- 59:33there who I think are genuinely very funny. Like Ed Gamble is very funny. >> Mhm.
- 59:37>> And I he got kicked out of the show halfway through for not participating,
- 59:41but I'm like, "I don't think he knew what to do with these people." Cuz it was weird, man.
- 59:47Like I was feel like I honestly felt like he he probably just didn't want anything to
- 59:52do with it. Cuz they were just Like getting shoving stuff up their ass and like
- 59:58It's just it got really strange. >> Yeah. No, I look the the Canadian one I
- 1:00:04quite like. They had like Colin Mockery and >> Oh, yeah.
- 1:00:07>> I love Colin Mockery and and then you I forget the other ones, but
- 1:00:12You when you they come on you go, "Oh, I know them from that. I know like you
- 1:00:15know them all." >> Yeah. That's the way I felt with the
- 1:00:17Australian one. There's there's someone I know like IRL was in there and I was
- 1:00:21like, "Okay, that's cool." And then uh like um Frank Woodley. Love him.
- 1:00:25Love Ed Gamble. Love him. And Like I said, but it just it got so strange. Um
- 1:00:31the British one is so good. I was like >> Well, I think it's cuz the British one
- 1:00:37I don't know. I think there's the British one a lot of those people they
- 1:00:41are doing a lot more comedy in different shows and things over there. There's not
- 1:00:45a lot in Australia. >> Yeah, man. I guess so. Uh yeah. >> I I I I
- 1:00:51The Canadian one was good. English one was good. Australian one was not good.
- 1:00:55I'd hate I look I hope American never finds out about this show though. >> [laughter]
- 1:01:00>> I can't imagine they'd be good at it. Yeah. >> I would be horrible. I don't even know
- 1:01:04what even comedians they'd get on there.
- 1:01:09>> Bill Burr. No. >> I'd like to see Bill Burr on Taskmaster.
- 1:01:15>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, they the British I think just their sense of humor works better.
- 1:01:21I I cuz I think actually it's I think it's a Japanese show originally, I found
- 1:01:25out when I was looking into it. Because I was like I don't know. The British
- 1:01:28one, I feel like they they're funny, they make jokes, they try to be clever. >> Yes.
- 1:01:32>> to to make people laugh and that. And then this one was just like they're just
- 1:01:36trying to poop and fart and like yell swear words and like really loudly and
- 1:01:41it it was weird. So, I don't know if this if the Canadian one is more clever. I
- 1:01:45heard the German one's very good, but it's also in German, which I don't speak. >> So.
- 1:01:51>> I'd have to see if it works with subtitles. >> Yeah, I wouldn't go Yeah, Germany is not
- 1:01:56really the one that I'd go to for >> Mhm. >> laughs, but okay. >> Yeah.
- 1:02:00But anyway, I noticed they've not made any more seasons of the Australian one, so. >> No.
- 1:02:04>> It seems unlikely to happen. Seems to have been broadly an embarrassment.
- 1:02:09>> And even that that first season was years ago, so yeah, I definitely don't
- 1:02:11think it's coming back. And you think they would have because
- 1:02:15it was such a cheap show to make. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, one day of shooting.
- 1:02:19>> Even That was the other thing, too. Production values versus the British one
- 1:02:22were much lower. You could tell. >> Yeah. >> It was just literally they just shoved
- 1:02:26them in a room. >> But yeah, but yeah, like it's yeah, one
- 1:02:29day of shooting, you pay them what they've You pay You don't have to pay them as
- 1:02:34much cuz it is one day of shooting. You get in, you film it, [clears throat] you
- 1:02:37get out, editing done. >> Yeah. >> [sighs] >> But yeah, so I was very disappointed.
- 1:02:44>> No. I think you should watch the Canadian one. I'm trying to remember
- 1:02:46other people in it. But yeah, you'll definitely know them.
- 1:02:52>> Okay. >> There's Green.
- 1:02:57Used to hate him. >> Tom Green? >> Tom Green. >> Tom Green is in it?
- 1:03:02>> Tom Green is in it. >> [ __ ] hell. All right. All right. I'll check that out.
- 1:03:08Before we go, one brief thing. You saw a movie the other week, Supergirl, and you
- 1:03:12said you were unimpressed by it, basically. >> Yes. >> Uh it's >> As a lot of other people
- 1:03:18>> Well, it's it's gotten worse than that on the internet, actually. It's one of
- 1:03:21those phenomenons where everyone just decides they're going to
- 1:03:25[ __ ] hate and [ __ ] on a movie. Uh, I don't know if a lot of people have even
- 1:03:29seen it, but like that [ __ ] turned real quick after Superman.
- 1:03:34Like, James Gunn's going to save DC. >> Yeah. >> And then now everyone's like, what is
- 1:03:41this [ __ ] disaster? Everyone hates >> One of the things that
- 1:03:45>> Milly Milly Bobby Brown. They hate her now? >> One of the things that they hate her cuz
- 1:03:49she wasn't hot enough and stuff and it sort of >> You thought she was hot before? What's
- 1:03:53What's going on? Like, I don't know. >> Like >> Yeah, it's feel really weird. Like
- 1:03:59It's It's gross. Like >> Yeah. It's I didn't like it, but I didn't like it
- 1:04:04because I didn't like the movie. I didn't like it because of
- 1:04:08I didn't find the actress attractive or something. Like, that's just seems a
- 1:04:11very strange way to >> I think it's Yeah, like I said, it's an internet pile-on.
- 1:04:17Like, not actual Well, it's hard, right? I don't want to say it's not valid
- 1:04:22criticism because from what I understand the movie's not that great. But then they go
- 1:04:26>> It's not. I I was honest about it. It's not. >> But they get weird. The internet gets
- 1:04:29weird about it. Like, yeah, the movie's not great and she's ugly. Like, okay.
- 1:04:34That's You don't leave That's not >> That's not why the movie's great. I don't think
- 1:04:39>> She's not. Exactly, she's [laughter] not. You're just being [ __ ] weird. >> Yeah.
- 1:04:44>> Like, why are you being weird? So strange.
- 1:04:49>> Yeah, it's just uh Yeah, it's just it is I do find it a
- 1:04:54shame that this is the second outing hasn't been as strong as
- 1:05:00Superman was and it's scary to see what's going to come from the future now cuz
- 1:05:05hopefully they just let him do his thing >> Mhm.
- 1:05:09>> and not try and jump in and take over. >> Because the interesting data point here
- 1:05:15is that apparently this has done worse than Blue Beetle, which is a movie that
- 1:05:20I don't think anyone even remembered existed, but that did better than this.
- 1:05:24Like how's that possible? >> This is This movie's everywhere.
