Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Hey, guys, we are back.
- 0:07Speaker 2: It's normal.
- 0:08Speaker 3: It takes for when the news gets weird.
- 0:10Speaker 4: I am Mary keppert Ham and I'm Karl Markowitz. And
- 0:13Speaker 4: it is a miraculous day. The hostages have returned to Israel.
- 0:19Speaker 4: Donald Trump is in the Middle East giving just a
- 0:22Speaker 4: view of how things should work to the rest of
- 0:25Speaker 4: the world. And it's really just an incredible moment.
- 0:28Speaker 5: I rejoice, I rejoice, I rejoice.
- 0:31Speaker 3: I am unabashedly rejoice for Israel, for all my Jewish friends,
- 0:35Speaker 3: for every person in Israel.
- 0:37Speaker 5: It is so.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Unbelievable if you had told us this ten years ago.
- 0:43Speaker 4: Carol, Yeah, I just Donald Trump, the guy who has
- 0:48Speaker 4: the gold Towers in Manhattan, is going to bring peace
- 0:52Speaker 4: to the Middle East.
- 0:54Speaker 3: To your war hostages home. And look, there is genius
- 0:58Speaker 3: in what they did here. And I also want to
- 1:00Speaker 3: shout out Jared Kushner, who Jared Kushner is a quiet force,
- 1:05Speaker 3: who was you know, ridiculed for years. They called him
- 1:09Speaker 3: an intellectual lightweight, made fun of him having anything to
- 1:13Speaker 3: do with Oh, I don't know, the Abraham Accords, which
- 1:15Speaker 3: was pretty big deal in the first term, and now
- 1:18Speaker 3: he was a major part of this and the brilliance
- 1:20Speaker 3: of this planet is they were like, hey, we're going
- 1:23Speaker 3: to pressure you enough cutter and all these other places
- 1:28Speaker 3: that you have to accept that all the hostages come
- 1:30Speaker 3: back before, before the second part of the deal.
- 1:36Speaker 5: Yet it actually happened.
- 1:37Speaker 4: It's unbelievable.
- 1:38Speaker 5: I'm so with you.
- 1:40Speaker 4: That Jared Kushner gets nowhere near enough praise. He was
- 1:44Speaker 4: instrumental in the Abraham Accords, he was instrumental here. I
- 1:48Speaker 4: think he is a force, and I'm so just happy
- 1:52Speaker 4: that he's related to the president and he is able
- 1:55Speaker 4: to make these kinds of moves on the world stage.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Just going back to Donald Trump for a minute, Yes,
- 2:02Speaker 4: like growing up in New York, he was the guy
- 2:05Speaker 4: on home alone. He was the guy with the golden toilets.
- 2:07Speaker 4: I didn't love him in twenty sixteen. I liked him
- 2:10Speaker 4: better in twenty twenty, and then in twenty twenty four
- 2:12Speaker 4: I was a will crawl over broken glass to vote
- 2:15Speaker 4: for this man voter, And I feel I came a
- 2:18Speaker 4: little late to him, but so grateful for him, and
- 2:23Speaker 4: he deserves so much praise and credit. His deal making
- 2:26Speaker 4: is what got us here. And I think that even
- 2:29Speaker 4: if you hate Donald Trump, but I'm seeing this, you know,
- 2:31Speaker 4: on my various chats like how am I supposed to feel?
- 2:34Speaker 4: I hate Donald Trump? Who cares how you feel about him?
- 2:37Speaker 4: He did something incredible today. Give him that praise. Also,
- 2:41Speaker 4: all praise to Bibnett and Yahoo. Without their partnership, this
- 2:46Speaker 4: does not happen.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Yeah, and I also had I had doubts about Steve Woodcoff,
- 2:51Speaker 3: like pairing him with Jared Kushner and the whole force
- 2:53Speaker 3: of these.
- 2:54Speaker 5: Guys being together.
- 2:55Speaker 3: I tweeted the other night that you know, I'm wary
- 2:59Speaker 3: of the deal, of course, because these things can fall apart.
- 3:01Speaker 3: But we have seen today that actually all of the
- 3:03Speaker 3: live former hostages are home, which is just miraculous. But
- 3:07Speaker 3: I said, I'm weary, of course, But it sure seems
- 3:09Speaker 3: like a strong Israel with strong backing from an unpredictable
- 3:12Speaker 3: kind of psycho US president with b two bombers is
- 3:15Speaker 3: a better basis for changing the Middle East.
- 3:17Speaker 5: Game than the U N bitching at Jews. That's absolutely right.
- 3:21Speaker 5: That's my take. That's my take, and it's a good one.
- 3:24Speaker 5: It is a good take.
- 3:25Speaker 4: There is an image floating around social media. I shared
- 3:28Speaker 4: it on my Instagram, how to deal with terrorists and
- 3:31Speaker 4: it's Brack Obama on the phone and he's like, let's negotiate.
- 3:34Speaker 4: The terrorist is like, I'll blow shit up. And then
- 3:36Speaker 4: it's Joe Biden, let's negotiate the terrorists like I'll blow
- 3:39Speaker 4: shit up. And then as Donald Trump saying I'll blow
- 3:41Speaker 4: shit up and the terrorists like, let's negotiate.
- 3:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:45Speaker 3: That is how it works. Is you cannot you cannot
- 3:49Speaker 3: gentle parent the Middle East. No, And if you do,
- 3:53Speaker 3: then the reasonable party, which is always going to be
- 3:56Speaker 3: a liberalized Western democracy, which is trying to act in
- 4:00Speaker 3: good faith Israel, that's the one you weaken while you
- 4:04Speaker 3: give all the power to the people who are acting
- 4:06Speaker 3: like psychos.
- 4:07Speaker 4: That's right. It's an amazing day in Israel. My sister
- 4:10Speaker 4: in law is there. She's sending pictures from what used
- 4:13Speaker 4: to be called Hostage Square, now called Freed Square, which
- 4:16Speaker 4: we kind of made fun of. It sounds like in
- 4:18Speaker 4: Israeli he doesn't speak English that well, he.
- 4:20Speaker 5: Does a little bit.
- 4:21Speaker 4: I'll take it.
- 4:21Speaker 5: You know, it's should go ahead, and I love it.
- 4:26Speaker 3: I should nave off a couple of these the hostages,
- 4:29Speaker 3: just so that for everybody who maybe doesn't follow it
- 4:31Speaker 3: super closely, but knew that there were these hostages still
- 4:34Speaker 3: in Gaza. On Ohel, who's twenty four and a prodigy pianist,
- 4:39Speaker 3: is back and there were some reports that he might
- 4:41Speaker 3: have been blind from injuries that he sustained while in captivity,
- 4:45Speaker 3: but he has played the piano since he's been home,
- 4:48Speaker 3: apparently wonderful to hear. Avinatan Or, who was the boyfriend
- 4:53Speaker 3: of Noah Argamani, who you guys would remember from the
- 4:56Speaker 3: two being torn apart while she was taken away on
- 4:59Speaker 3: the motorcycle.
- 5:00Speaker 5: Var Kuperstein, who has a wonderful story.
- 5:02Speaker 3: He was a medic and he was working really hard
- 5:04Speaker 3: at the Nova Festival to save other people. His dad
- 5:08Speaker 3: had a really tough accident in two thousand and nine,
- 5:10Speaker 3: had become unable to speak or move, and has rehabilitated
- 5:14Speaker 3: to the point that he can speak a little bit
- 5:16Speaker 3: and walk a little bit when his son comes home.
- 5:19Speaker 5: I who else?
- 5:21Speaker 3: Avatar David is the one that we saw the really
- 5:25Speaker 3: shocking video of having to dig his own grave. He
- 5:28Speaker 3: was you could tell, given more food before they gave
- 5:31Speaker 3: him back to Israel, but he is back home. The
- 5:34Speaker 3: list goes on, but I just wanted to note a
- 5:36Speaker 3: couple of them so that you guys could remember those stories.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Right, because they're real people. They're not just a number,
- 5:42Speaker 4: They're not just twenty They're real humans whose families were
- 5:47Speaker 4: tortured also for the last two years, and reading for them.
- 5:50Speaker 3: And Omri Moran, who has two little daughters. There at
- 5:53Speaker 3: least two dads coming home, two children who one of
- 5:56Speaker 3: those kids has no memory of her father because she
- 5:58Speaker 3: was six months old when he was from the safe
- 6:01Speaker 3: room that he was guarding them in. And Bethany made
- 6:04Speaker 3: a great point that all so many of these names
- 6:07Speaker 3: are of people who essentially gave the last two years
- 6:11Speaker 3: of their lives to try to save other people. They
- 6:14Speaker 3: were giving themselves up for other people at the Nova
- 6:16Speaker 3: Festival and for their families.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Yeah. Absolutely, Trump gave an incredible address to the Israeli Kinnessset.
- 6:24Speaker 4: I think we have a clip of that there we're
- 6:25Speaker 4: going to play. He is a statesman. I love to
- 6:28Speaker 4: see it.
- 6:29Speaker 6: After two harrowing years and darkness and captivity, twenty courageous
- 6:36Speaker 6: hostages are returning to the glorious embrace of their families.
- 6:40Speaker 3: And it is glorious.
- 6:43Speaker 7: Twenty eight more precious loved ones are coming home at
- 6:46Speaker 7: last to rest in this sacred soil for all of time,
- 6:52Speaker 7: and after so many years of unceasing war and endless danger.
- 6:57Speaker 7: Today the skies are calm, the guns are silent, the
- 7:00Speaker 7: sirens are still, and the sun rises on a holy
- 7:04Speaker 7: land that is finally at peace, a land and a
- 7:07Speaker 7: region that will live God willing in peace for all eternity.
- 7:14Speaker 4: He really has just risen to this moment. It's amazing,
- 7:17Speaker 4: it's incredible to watch. And that entire speech, he was funny,
- 7:21Speaker 4: he was interesting. Just a really wonderful moment for President Trump,
- 7:26Speaker 4: a really wonderful moment for our country as well. And
- 7:30Speaker 4: our friendship with Israel. It's a good thing. It's a
- 7:34Speaker 4: close allyship, and that's what it should be.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Israel has, for its part, certainly shown its gratitude towards Trump.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Specifically.
- 7:43Speaker 3: There's a great picture of a thank you banner on
- 7:47Speaker 3: the beach in Tel Aviv which is adorned with is
- 7:51Speaker 3: thank you, and it's adorned with Trump's profile. Very obviously,
- 7:57Speaker 3: the Speaker of the Knesset offered him a compilation picture
- 8:03Speaker 3: of his of Trump's forty eight covers of Time magazine,
- 8:07Speaker 3: dedicating it the eight for forty seven to President Trump.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Leader of the free world with im mense appreciation for
- 8:12Speaker 3: all you have done in our time. And then I
- 8:15Speaker 3: think we have a clip of a very special sort
- 8:18Speaker 3: of tribute to Trump from just an Israeli lady who
- 8:22Speaker 3: had some thoughts on the social media.
- 8:24Speaker 5: Here she is.
- 8:26Speaker 8: Amazing, Donna Trump Bush my love. Listen, need to say sorry,
- 8:30Speaker 8: apologize Israel love you.
- 8:32Speaker 4: And first of all, we.
- 8:33Speaker 8: Didn't we said I want to grab.
- 8:37Speaker 4: You by the Pushbush.
- 8:38Speaker 8: Now, we didn't think that the Trump Golden Shower will
- 8:42Speaker 8: bring the golden news.
- 8:44Speaker 4: Tezraet the covern, meet the.
- 8:49Speaker 8: Amazing.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Okay, I stand with you.
- 8:51Speaker 8: You know to stand with me. I stand with you.
- 8:54Speaker 8: Let's make America great again.
- 8:55Speaker 9: No, not no way.
- 8:57Speaker 8: Gender them, They don't.
- 8:59Speaker 4: They who's them?
- 9:00Speaker 10: Don't know?
- 9:00Speaker 8: Dande only nepsicon to Mexico. I agree about evoltions. Listen,
- 9:06Speaker 8: if you promise, no wo no boys go to kill
- 9:11Speaker 8: themselves and to kill othermselves. No evotions, Okay, no no emotions.
- 9:16Speaker 4: Fava with me.
- 9:17Speaker 8: It's gonna be a very baby womb. Now we decided
- 9:19Speaker 8: everybody will be Donald. Now it's a new even name
- 9:22Speaker 8: Donald Dangelie. It's nice.
- 9:24Speaker 1: So the bas in the.
- 9:25Speaker 4: Middle, she is so Israeli. It is hilarious, It's amazing.
- 9:32Speaker 4: I think there will be a baby boom of Donald's
- 9:35Speaker 4: in Israel. I think that that is definitely something that
- 9:38Speaker 4: will happen. Push push, I mean all of it, you know,
- 9:41Speaker 4: will be right back with more on normally, and we'll
- 9:44Speaker 4: hear reactions from people or lack of reactions from people
- 9:47Speaker 4: about what is going on in the Middle East.
- 9:50Speaker 5: Be right back.
- 9:54Speaker 4: We are back on normally. And I think one of
- 9:56Speaker 4: the more important lessons of this entire peace process and
- 10:01Speaker 4: this current moment is that Europe is pointless. Why are
- 10:04Speaker 4: they so pointless?
- 10:07Speaker 7: I know?
- 10:07Speaker 3: And there look, there's this Johnny cum Lately thing that
- 10:11Speaker 3: Keir Starmer and Macron are doing to fly into Egypt, like, hey,
- 10:15Speaker 3: we were part of this. In fact, what happened is
- 10:18Speaker 3: that you were actively working against this by recognizing a
- 10:21Speaker 3: Palestinian state and rewarding the people you're trying to get
- 10:25Speaker 3: to the table, whereas the US and Israel were engaged
- 10:28Speaker 3: in bombing Hamas targets inside Cutter, which then forced Cutter
- 10:33Speaker 3: to be like, do we want to be vulnerable to
- 10:36Speaker 3: this in the future or should we sit down and
- 10:38Speaker 3: figure this out again. So many people on the left
- 10:41Speaker 3: get these backwards, Like there's a lot of people I've
- 10:44Speaker 3: seen in maybe in the New York Times, other people
- 10:46Speaker 3: tweeting like I don't understand he's bombing the very people
- 10:50Speaker 3: who he's trying to get to the table. It's like, well,
- 10:52Speaker 3: they didn't come in spite of the bombing, right, they
- 10:55Speaker 3: came because of the bombing.
- 10:57Speaker 5: Exactly, that's what happened.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Let's roll this clip of the Education Secretary in Britain
- 11:04Speaker 4: actually being held to account on Sky News about the
- 11:07Speaker 4: complete lack of role that Britain played in this whole part.
- 11:12Speaker 11: We have played a key role behind the scenes in
- 11:14Speaker 11: shaping this. It's right that we do so, because it's
- 11:17Speaker 11: in all of our interest, including our own national interest,
- 11:20Speaker 11: that we moved to a lasting piece in the region.
- 11:22Speaker 10: Well, when you say behind the scenes, like what I mean,
- 11:26Speaker 10: it seemed to everybody else in the world that this
- 11:28Speaker 10: has been done by Trump and the Israelis and her
- 11:32Speaker 10: mass What part did we play?
- 11:34Speaker 11: These are complex matters of diplomacy that we are involved in,
- 11:37Speaker 11: but we do welcome and recognize the critical rule that
- 11:40Speaker 11: the American government played in moving us to this point.
- 11:42Speaker 11: What matters now, of course, is how we move beyond
- 11:45Speaker 11: this immediate to the wall, moving towards that lasting piece
- 11:49Speaker 11: that we all want to see. That is why we've
- 11:51Speaker 11: recognized a Palestinian state. Why alongside that, we're committed to
- 11:55Speaker 11: making sure that a safe and secure Israel endurers.
- 12:00Speaker 10: Reason I asked this is because, as you say, we
- 12:02Speaker 10: recognize a Palestinian state, Marco Rubio, the sexuorist state, said
- 12:07Speaker 10: that actually made it more difficult to learn the deal.
- 12:13Speaker 10: What's really going on here? I mean, was that some
- 12:17Speaker 10: sort of clever, strategic double bluff. I mean the Americans
- 12:20Speaker 10: say we made it more difficult. You're saying that we
- 12:22Speaker 10: played this creep art. What's true?
- 12:25Speaker 11: Well, we believe as a government that it was the
- 12:28Speaker 11: right thing to do to recognize the Palestinian state because
- 12:31Speaker 11: of the way in which the conflict had developed over
- 12:33Speaker 11: the last two years, that if that hadn't happened, we
- 12:36Speaker 11: would be in a position where there would no longer
- 12:38Speaker 11: be that viable option of a Palestinian But.
- 12:40Speaker 10: The Israelis were furious with us. The Americans said that
- 12:43Speaker 10: we actually hampered the deal. What was the positive role
- 12:46Speaker 10: that we played.
- 12:47Speaker 11: It was the right thing to do, and we will
- 12:49Speaker 11: always act as a government in that manner. I do
- 12:52Speaker 11: obviously understand that not everyone agrees with that decision, but
- 12:56Speaker 11: given the scale of the conflict and what needed to happen,
- 12:59Speaker 11: we felt it was the right thing to do to
- 13:00Speaker 11: recognize that Palestinian state. But I should also just emphasize
- 13:04Speaker 11: that the reason this conflict, of course, this phase of
- 13:06Speaker 11: the conflict has begun or began, was following the appalling events,
- 13:10Speaker 11: the appalling atrocities of the seventh of October, and as
- 13:14Speaker 11: we over the course of the next twenty four hours,
- 13:16Speaker 11: what we all want to see are as many hostages
- 13:19Speaker 11: as possible released home to their families and those brought home.
- 13:24Speaker 4: That host is named Trevor Phillips. I think he did
- 13:26Speaker 4: a really good job there reaching her. She had no answer.
- 13:31Speaker 4: We played a role behind the scenes and did things. Yeah,
- 13:34Speaker 4: recognizing the Palestinian state was the right thing to do,
- 13:37Speaker 4: No was it?
- 13:38Speaker 7: So?
- 13:39Speaker 4: I don't know where Britain and France go from here.
- 13:42Speaker 4: They've already have been such diminished powers on the world stage.
- 13:45Speaker 4: I don't think anybody looks to them for guidance. The
- 13:47Speaker 4: fact that they showed up in Egypt town embarrassing for
- 13:50Speaker 4: them because they literally had no role to play in this.
- 13:53Speaker 4: It's depressing actually, because I want a stronger Europe, I
- 13:56Speaker 4: want a more involved Europe, but they are so beholden
- 14:00Speaker 4: to their own problems. They have this Muslim population that
- 14:03Speaker 4: is not integrated into their culture at all. You'll see
- 14:06Speaker 4: videos of members of Parliament saying that they need to
- 14:09Speaker 4: take down British flags and that kind of thing. When
- 14:11Speaker 4: I was in France twenty years ago, they refer to
- 14:15Speaker 4: the Muslims living there as the Arabs. When those people
- 14:18Speaker 4: were born in France. They'll never be French under their
- 14:21Speaker 4: kind of guidelines, and it's a real problem for them,
- 14:24Speaker 4: and that's why they take the ridiculous stance that they
- 14:27Speaker 4: do on the world stage.
- 14:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I think it was John Puhortz who
- 14:31Speaker 3: put this in a way that made it very clear
- 14:33Speaker 3: to me that the recognition of a Palestinian state is
- 14:36Speaker 3: an attempt to quiet the Arab street in Britain and
- 14:40Speaker 3: or appease the Arab street in Britain and France, and
- 14:42Speaker 3: has nothing to do with what Trump is doing and
- 14:45Speaker 3: is fact is in fact damaging to what they were
- 14:48Speaker 3: attempting to do. But luckily, you know, the b two
- 14:51Speaker 3: S speak more strongly than Cure, Starmer or Macrone does.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Anthony Blinken is also jumping on the credit train. He said,
- 15:01Speaker 3: it's good that President Trump adopted and built on the
- 15:03Speaker 3: plan that the Biden administration developed after months of discussion
- 15:07Speaker 3: with Arab partners, Israel and the Palestin the authority.
- 15:09Speaker 4: Sure, dude, imagine that, Yeah, Biden administration. He also Obama,
- 15:14Speaker 4: of course, took this opportunity to tweet about himself because
- 15:17Speaker 4: that's what Samma does, and made no mention of Donald Trump.
- 15:22Speaker 4: Bill Crystal hasn't mentioned a word about this. You think
- 15:26Speaker 4: that his key issue over his entire lifetime, he might
- 15:30Speaker 4: say something in a tweet, and he's still tweeting, just
- 15:33Speaker 4: not about this at all, because he can't bring himself
- 15:36Speaker 4: to give Trump any credit. Obviously, Tucker Carlson, who says
- 15:40Speaker 4: he's just such a peaceful guy, he's just so anti war,
- 15:43Speaker 4: not a word about this, And the list goes on
- 15:46Speaker 4: and on. These people are loath to give Trump any
- 15:50Speaker 4: credit for the piece that he's brought here, and they
- 15:54Speaker 4: have their own agendas.
- 15:55Speaker 5: Yeah, we have a great clip actually from CNN.
- 15:58Speaker 3: I know, I'm shocked as you of Abby Phillip actually
- 16:02Speaker 3: pointing out.
- 16:02Speaker 5: This problem for Obama here.
- 16:04Speaker 2: She is perhaps even bigger than the Nobel Peace Prize.
- 16:07Speaker 2: You could argue, but I mean, there is a desire
- 16:10Speaker 2: on the part of a lot of people in Maga,
- 16:12Speaker 2: and this is channeling. I'm sure what Trump is feeling
- 16:15Speaker 2: for credit. President Obama put out this post talking about
- 16:19Speaker 2: the peace deal and the prospects of it, and Don
- 16:22Speaker 2: Junior responded to it, I'll finish it for you. Thank you,
- 16:26Speaker 2: Donald Trump. Honestly, it's not unfair to say if President
- 16:32Speaker 2: Obama's going to write a whole post about a peace deal,
- 16:35Speaker 2: maybe he should acknowledge the president that broke it in that's.
- 16:39Speaker 5: Two in a row. Yeah, and he deserves credit. No,
- 16:42Speaker 5: there is.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Obviously there have been splits on the right during the
- 16:47Speaker 3: Trump years. The Tucker section is one. I would say that,
- 16:50Speaker 3: like the Bulwark section is another.
- 16:53Speaker 5: The rap I know well, and the rap is always.
- 16:58Speaker 3: Like you changed change, your values are not the same
- 17:02Speaker 3: on this in particular, I'm in the same place I
- 17:05Speaker 3: always was, and I am I am actually a little
- 17:09Speaker 3: surprised at the lack of celebration from people who have
- 17:15Speaker 3: formerly been extremely committed to this close allyship to this country,
- 17:21Speaker 3: to the beautiful country that is Israel to our one
- 17:23Speaker 3: democratic partner in the region.
- 17:25Speaker 5: And now it's like after and in the.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Tucker case, pro peace allegedly, but there's so many people
- 17:32Speaker 3: left right and center, no, not really center probably but
- 17:35Speaker 3: far less far right horseshoeing that it turns out aren't
- 17:38Speaker 3: pro peace at all.
- 17:39Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, we haven't moved, We say the same. I
- 17:43Speaker 4: have been a conservative my whole life. I've been proways
- 17:45Speaker 4: around my whole life. I mean, these things go hand
- 17:47Speaker 4: in hand to me. I don't understand the opposite side
- 17:50Speaker 4: of that. In fact, I say this a lot a
- 17:53Speaker 4: lot of times. When a conservative flips on Israel, it's
- 17:56Speaker 4: because they've moved left on other things as well. And
- 17:59Speaker 4: it's been so evidence of that over the last few days.
- 18:02Speaker 4: MTG is Marjorie Taylor Green. She was talking about how
- 18:06Speaker 4: we need to have some illegal immigration. I mean, these
- 18:10Speaker 4: things are are just obvious when the switch happens. Other
- 18:14Speaker 4: things have happened. It's not just Israel. But tell me
- 18:17Speaker 4: about your shirt. You are wearing dart shirt, which I
- 18:20Speaker 4: want because we were there together. That was my only
- 18:22Speaker 4: time ever in Stotz when you and I were in Israel.
- 18:25Speaker 3: Yeah, so this is this is actually I had a
- 18:28Speaker 3: stat shirt from my very first visit to Israel in
- 18:32Speaker 3: two thousand and eight. Oh lo these many years ago,
- 18:35Speaker 3: and uh. And then we went back together after October seventh.
- 18:40Speaker 3: But on the day before October seventh, October sixth, twenty
- 18:44Speaker 3: twenty three, I happened to do the podcast Ask a Jew,
- 18:49Speaker 3: and we reminisced about my first trip to Israel, and
- 18:51Speaker 3: I had not been a second time at that point,
- 18:53Speaker 3: and I just love the country and it's beautiful and
- 18:55Speaker 3: it's I think because if you have a foreign policy
- 18:59Speaker 3: view of Israel and you haven't visited, you don't know
- 19:02Speaker 3: quite how magical and beautiful it is. And so I
- 19:06Speaker 3: have always been very struck by it. And so I
- 19:08Speaker 3: had this T shirt that I that I had for
- 19:11Speaker 3: that podcast and talked about it and how they questioned
- 19:14Speaker 3: me about it when I was leaving the airport, you know,
- 19:16Speaker 3: how they have asked very specific questions.
- 19:18Speaker 5: The airboord He was like, do you have anything, and
- 19:20Speaker 5: I was like no. I was like, no, no, no, I
- 19:22Speaker 5: have a T shirt, have a T shirt to the
- 19:24Speaker 5: idea of home.
- 19:27Speaker 3: So we did that podcast the day before the news
- 19:31Speaker 3: broke and then we did a quick follow up to
- 19:32Speaker 3: change up that podcast. Yaelle Bartur, who is the co
- 19:36Speaker 3: host of that podcast, sent this to me just last
- 19:39Speaker 3: week as an update to my shirt. It went a
- 19:43Speaker 3: little viral because she got heckled on these streets of
- 19:45Speaker 3: New York for wearing a similar shirt, and so she
- 19:48Speaker 3: was helping out this company by sending some to friends
- 19:51Speaker 3: and allies. What's on your hat? I noticed you have
- 19:54Speaker 3: some swag as well.
- 19:55Speaker 4: Yeah, so this is one of my favorite charities, Bela Bahad.
- 19:59Speaker 4: They do a lot of work supporting soldiers that return
- 20:03Speaker 4: from battle and they do just incredible, incredible work. I
- 20:07Speaker 4: would also be remiss not to mention the International Fellowship
- 20:09Speaker 4: of Christians and Jews. They do phenomenal work. Really one
- 20:12Speaker 4: of my absolute favorites as well. They advertise on this show,
- 20:15Speaker 4: And these are just great charities. If you want to
- 20:18Speaker 4: get involved in helping the returning hostages, I'm sure they're
- 20:21Speaker 4: both going to do some work and they really are
- 20:25Speaker 4: just phenomenal charities.
- 20:27Speaker 3: Yeah, and we should also not be remiss and not
- 20:30Speaker 3: forget to mention that, of course, many families do not
- 20:33Speaker 3: have someone coming home. Many families are waiting on remains,
- 20:36Speaker 3: which Hamas is going to be much more problematic about which,
- 20:40Speaker 3: by the way, is a violation of the agreement right already,
- 20:43Speaker 3: because they're already doing that, and many people are mourning
- 20:46Speaker 3: those who were lost I think nine hundred and fifteen
- 20:48Speaker 3: soldiers in battle during these during this time. So it's
- 20:52Speaker 3: as always, it is very complicated when these things happen
- 20:54Speaker 3: in Israel. Even a very successful deal includes the release
- 20:58Speaker 3: of murderers of other Israelis in the deal, so there's
- 21:03Speaker 3: a lot going on there. And then of course the
- 21:06Speaker 3: hostage is trying to get back to some sense of
- 21:08Speaker 3: normalcy after two years of god knows what, very tough times.
- 21:13Speaker 4: Yeah, well, we will be praying for them and we
- 21:16Speaker 4: hope that they suffer no more. We'll be right back
- 21:19Speaker 4: with more on normally. We are back on normally, where
- 21:26Speaker 4: we have a little politics round up, mostly unrelated to
- 21:29Speaker 4: the Middle East.
- 21:30Speaker 5: Yes, we had to talk a lot about the Middle East.
- 21:34Speaker 4: No, we'll do a couple piece of Middle East is
- 21:36Speaker 4: kind of a big deal.
- 21:37Speaker 3: It is a huge deal. So the government is still
- 21:41Speaker 3: shut down. The Democrats have voted what seven eight times
- 21:45Speaker 3: now against reopening. They are filibustering the clean cr in
- 21:50Speaker 3: the Senate. Still some of them have crossed over. It
- 21:52Speaker 3: is a bipartisn't vote on the yes side to open
- 21:55Speaker 3: the government, but not on the nose side. But you
- 21:57Speaker 3: know what happened. Something miraculous happened. Maybe not quite as
- 22:01Speaker 3: miraculous as peace in the Middle East. But Margaret Brennan
- 22:05Speaker 3: this weekend noticed Democrat hypocrisy question mark. So this is
- 22:11Speaker 3: the question that she had for Chris Murphy when he
- 22:13Speaker 3: came to sit down with her.
- 22:14Speaker 5: That's the Democratic senator from Connecticut. Is that right? Yes,
- 22:18Speaker 5: got it.
- 22:19Speaker 12: But this is just a seven week deal that we're
- 22:21Speaker 12: talking about at this point.
- 22:22Speaker 5: That the short.
- 22:23Speaker 13: Term correct the long term budget that we passed ultimately
- 22:26Speaker 13: has to require the president not engage in mass scale corruption.
- 22:29Speaker 13: But a short term agreement, you know, certainly is not
- 22:32Speaker 13: going to fix all of the problems that exist right
- 22:35Speaker 13: now in the way the president is running the country.
- 22:37Speaker 12: But you have been critical in the past of the
- 22:39Speaker 12: tactic of choosing to shut down the government. You were
- 22:42Speaker 12: in twenty eighteen, you were back in twenty thirteen when
- 22:45Speaker 12: it was a discussion over healthcare. This is what you
- 22:47Speaker 12: said in twenty eighteen, the.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Future of the American healthcare system was a legitimate public
- 22:52Speaker 1: policy issue, as is the.
- 22:56Speaker 5: Security of our borders.
- 22:57Speaker 1: But we shouldn't be having the discussion amidst a government
- 23:01Speaker 1: shutdround trying to use our nation security and all of
- 23:04Speaker 1: these federal workers and the work that they do as hostages.
- 23:08Speaker 12: Aren't you doing today exactly what you were criticizing then?
- 23:11Speaker 13: No, that was a fight over sort of the long
- 23:14Speaker 13: term structure of the American healthcare system. This is an emergency.
- 23:19Speaker 4: Yeah, not at all the same, so super super different.
- 23:23Speaker 4: Our friend recking now are second mentioned on the show today.
- 23:26Speaker 4: She tweeted, if Republicans were responsible for the shutdown, we
- 23:29Speaker 4: would be getting the most unbelievable SOB stories by now
- 23:32Speaker 4: about the flight of federal workers because it is the
- 23:34Speaker 4: fault of democrats. I'm hearing next to nothing. No spreads
- 23:38Speaker 4: in the New York Times about like the worker who
- 23:41Speaker 4: has been sent home and is struggling to feed their family.
- 23:44Speaker 4: Nothing like.
- 23:46Speaker 3: No, this is how you know who's at fault, because
- 23:49Speaker 3: a couple of people who don't have the ability to
- 23:51Speaker 3: parse that are like I've seen a couple of tweets like, wow,
- 23:54Speaker 3: this is like the chillest shutdown ever. I'll tell you
- 23:57Speaker 3: why Yeah, I'll tell you why, because no one is
- 24:00Speaker 3: incentivized to exaggerate every part of it in the same
- 24:03Speaker 3: way that they would be otherwise because it.
- 24:05Speaker 5: Does not help their team, which caused the shutdown.
- 24:08Speaker 4: In this case, that's rights are furloughed. This is a
- 24:11Speaker 4: real thing that is ongoing. The fact that you're not
- 24:13Speaker 4: hearing news about it.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Yeah, and by the way, Trump did make some move
- 24:17Speaker 3: to make sure troops are paid, which of course Democrats
- 24:20Speaker 3: are going to be very mad about, and he's going
- 24:22Speaker 3: to walk them into yet another trap of complaining about
- 24:26Speaker 3: paying the troops during the shutdown. At any rate, we
- 24:29Speaker 3: will keep you up to date on it. There's also
- 24:31Speaker 3: an update in the Virginia governor's race. That race seems
- 24:34Speaker 3: to be tightening at least a little bit. It's again
- 24:37Speaker 3: still an uphill battle for whin some seers who's running
- 24:39Speaker 3: against Abigail Spamberger. But I think she made it slightly
- 24:42Speaker 3: easy for easier for herself by having a pretty good
- 24:46Speaker 3: debate appearance, helped by Abigail Spaanberger's totally dropping the ball
- 24:52Speaker 3: when it came to being asked by win some seers
- 24:56Speaker 3: about j Jones, who is the guy who sent the
- 24:59Speaker 3: murder text, And this is the one minute ad that
- 25:02Speaker 3: the Sears campaign produced using her non answer in this segment.
- 25:09Speaker 9: Would it take him pulling the trigger? Is that what
- 25:12Speaker 9: would do it? And then you would say he needs
- 25:15Speaker 9: to get out of the race, Abigail, You have nothing
- 25:18Speaker 9: to say, Abigail. What if he said it about your
- 25:23Speaker 9: two children, your three children? Is that when you would
- 25:26Speaker 9: say he should get out of the race, Abigail, You're running.
- 25:31Speaker 4: To be governor, miss Earl Sears.
- 25:34Speaker 9: I mean we're talking about murder. We're talking about someone's
- 25:37Speaker 9: life being taken from them. Have you nothing to say
- 25:41Speaker 9: about that? Are you not going to address it? Really,
- 25:46Speaker 9: you can't go any further. You're a governor. You're supposed to.
- 25:49Speaker 5: Stand up for all the people.
- 25:51Speaker 9: Are you saying political murder is all right? Have some
- 25:56Speaker 9: political courage. What you have done is you are taking
- 26:00Speaker 9: political calculations about your future as governor well as governor.
- 26:04Speaker 9: You have to make hard choices, and that means telling
- 26:08Speaker 9: j Jones to leave the race.
- 26:11Speaker 5: Woo Carol.
- 26:13Speaker 4: Yeah, awkward.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Also, I understand what she was trying to do here.
- 26:19Speaker 3: Spanberger was trying to think, I'm going to only take
- 26:22Speaker 3: questions from the moderator, I'm not going to take them
- 26:25Speaker 3: from my opponent. And that may have been by the
- 26:28Speaker 3: letter of the law, right the debate style, but it
- 26:32Speaker 3: does not help in this situation. She also said, like
- 26:36Speaker 3: two minutes of gobbledegook earlier, sort of kind of condemning it,
- 26:39Speaker 3: but also not any not asking him to step down.
- 26:43Speaker 5: None of that right.
- 26:44Speaker 3: By the way, she asked Ralph Northam to resign over
- 26:47Speaker 3: the blackface thing, but this is totally fine anyway. There
- 26:50Speaker 3: were other segments where she did say things, but in
- 26:53Speaker 3: this one that is a tactical error that you don't
- 26:58Speaker 3: see that magnitude of that.
- 27:00Speaker 4: Right, I hope it leads to something. It just kills me.
- 27:03Speaker 4: If a terrible candidate like that, who won't condemn murderers texts,
- 27:08Speaker 4: I mean it really like he texted that his opponent's
- 27:11Speaker 4: kids should die. It's such an easy condemnation, Like it
- 27:15Speaker 4: shouldn't be this difficult. Well, and she'll say Republicans, they
- 27:18Speaker 4: would jump all over it and would condemn their own side.
- 27:21Speaker 5: Well, and she'll say, to be sure, no violent rhetoric
- 27:24Speaker 5: is okay.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Moving on, It's like, okay, but what are the actual
- 27:29Speaker 3: consequences for that, especially by the way in Virginia right now,
- 27:32Speaker 3: a couple of other Republicans have actively been threatened by
- 27:37Speaker 3: people who are being arrested for death threats on Republicans
- 27:41Speaker 3: in the state. And that whole ticket is like la
- 27:44Speaker 3: la la, Let's have j Jones be the AG Now
- 27:47Speaker 3: the voting public has reacted, it seems, on the AG race.
- 27:51Speaker 3: Whether it affects the other two on the ticket, I
- 27:53Speaker 3: don't know, But in the AG race, Jason Arras, who
- 27:56Speaker 3: is the Republican, seems to have picked up about six
- 27:59Speaker 3: points since the things started out breaking, which is as
- 28:02Speaker 3: it should be. And I would say so if it
- 28:04Speaker 3: was a Democrat like you should lose six points for
- 28:07Speaker 3: sending those texts, I think yeah.
- 28:10Speaker 4: Speaking of people who seem to love violence, the potential
- 28:15Speaker 4: next mayor of New York Cities or Mom Donnie, did
- 28:18Speaker 4: a run for Gaza this weekend. He is famous for
- 28:25Speaker 4: marching for globalizing the Intifada. He is frequently asked to
- 28:30Speaker 4: condemn it, and he won't. He says that if benjaminette
- 28:34Speaker 4: Yaw who comes to New York, he will arrest him.
- 28:37Speaker 4: Really great guy New York is poised to pick. Of course,
- 28:40Speaker 4: he's running against Andrew Como who you know, I don't
- 28:43Speaker 4: have any love for it all, but would clearly be
- 28:46Speaker 4: the better choice here. Curtis Lewa is a Republican on
- 28:49Speaker 4: that race, who when you're explaining the vote between the
- 28:51Speaker 4: three of them, Mom Donnie seems seems like he's going
- 28:54Speaker 4: to win the whole.
- 28:55Speaker 3: Wait, it wasn't just a five k for Gaza. It
- 28:57Speaker 3: was specifically for UNRAU right, which is the organization which
- 29:03Speaker 3: we have determined is just basically Hamas.
- 29:07Speaker 4: Yeah, in charge of at the UN.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Hamas at the UN because they joined forces. And it
- 29:12Speaker 3: is wild to me that that's his social media. He's like, yeah,
- 29:16Speaker 3: I'm gonna do a run. It's not just like for
- 29:18Speaker 3: some innocuous like like choose Jose Andras or something. It's
- 29:21Speaker 3: like a little bit more within bounds, not unrough, for
- 29:24Speaker 3: God's sake. And then people were There was a skit
- 29:27Speaker 3: on SNL this weekend where the character was a Long
- 29:31Speaker 3: Island woman who was making they were making fun of
- 29:33Speaker 3: her for being scared of Mom Donnie, and she called
- 29:36Speaker 3: him a hipster, g hottist And honestly, I gotta look
- 29:39Speaker 3: at a guy running for unra in his in his
- 29:42Speaker 3: calf height, black socks, and I.
- 29:43Speaker 5: Go like, is that a Is that what he is?
- 29:46Speaker 5: That what he is because he doesn't condemn Global is
- 29:50Speaker 5: pretty good.
- 29:51Speaker 13: I don't.
- 29:51Speaker 4: I don't watch us and know, but that that's a
- 29:52Speaker 4: really that's a smart point. That's really what he is.
- 29:57Speaker 5: He looks what he sounds like.
