- 0:40Kentucky State Police Post eleven investigated to somewhat related crashes
- 0:45Monday afternoon, the first of a fatal and the other
- 0:49involving a Sheriff's cruiser and a school bus. The first
- 0:53accident involved a three vehicle collision on Cumberland Falls Highway
- 0:58near the intersection of Ward Terry that claimed the life
- 1:01of a Corbin man. According to the State Police, the
- 1:05accident happened around three pm and involved a twenty seventeen
- 1:10Ram pickup truck, a twenty seventeen Honda HRV and a
- 1:15twenty twenty five Mercedes Benz. The driver of the ram
- 1:21identified as John P. Canada Love, thirty eight, of Corbin,
- 1:25sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced de ceased by the
- 1:29Whitley County Coroner, Andy Crowley. He was northbound, Oh Pardon me.
- 1:35According to the Kentucky State Police release, Canada Love was
- 1:40northbound on the Falls Highway when he approached the Honda
- 1:44driven by Jennifer Kirk forty two of Berea as it
- 1:48was attempting to negotiate a turn. KSP said the truck
- 1:53tried to get around the Honda, but struck the rear
- 1:57of the vehicle, causing his truck to own return and
- 2:01collide with the southbound Mercedes driven by Philip Van Winkle
- 2:05forty six of Berea. All occupants of both the Honda

- 2:37fifty pm Monday, The fatal crash remains under investigation by
- 2:42KSP Detective Shane Bowling, who is conducting the collision reconstruction.
- 2:48Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be the factors,
- 2:52though toxology results are pending. Detective Bowling was assisted on
- 2:57the scene by fellow Kentucky State Police person personnel, Oak
- 3:01Grove Fire Department, Whitley County Sheriff's Office, Whitley County EMS,
- 3:06and the Coroner's office as first responders were still headed
- 3:10to the fatal accident. A subsequent quint cash occurred at
- 3:16the intersection of Cumberland Falls Highway and Coxsmith Road. KSP
- 3:22preliminary investigation indicated that the WCSO cruiser with the emergency
- 3:28equipment activated, was on the Falls Highway and collided with
- 3:33the Whitley County school bus when the bus driver pulled
- 3:36into the cruiser's path as she attempted to turn onto

- 4:19back up traffic in the left lane to reach the scene,
- 4:23the school bus began turning left as the deputy went
- 4:28around it in the left lane. As he's going around
- 4:32several vehicles getting to the fatal collision, the school bus
- 4:35started to make a left turn, Sheriff Elliot said. As
- 4:39the school bus made a left turn on what is
- 4:42to believe Cosmith's Road, the driver of the bus did
- 4:46not see or hear the cruiser. Deputy Sheriff attempted to
- 4:50avoid the crash by swerving to the right, but struck

- 14:55is Knox Sports Park open to the public by Macy Swafford.
- 14:59Barberville community members and local leaders gathered Tuesday evening to
- 15:04celebrate the grand opening of the New Knox Sports Park,
- 15:08a four million, eighty eight acre complex aimed at expanding
- 15:13recreation opportunities while driving tourism and economic growth in Knox County.
- 15:20The facility, located on Minton Hickory Farm Road, features two
- 15:24baseball fields, two softball fields, a walking trail, outdoor batting cages,
- 15:31a playground, and state of the art concession and restroom building.
- 15:36Officials noted the project was completed with no debt to
- 15:40the county. Knox County Judge Executive Mike Mitchell reflected on
- 15:45this year's on this project's development, which began in twenty
- 15:49twenty two, and emphasized the investment in the community's future.
- 15:55We could have spent this on numerous things, but we
- 15:58should always invest in our kids, in our families, Mitchell said,
- 16:02adding that the complex is designed to create both recreational
- 16:06opportunities and long term economic impact. Mitchell also highlighted the
- 16:12broader effort behind the project, thinking past and present Fiscal
- 16:16Court members, local partners, and contractors who help bring the
- 16:20vision to life. During the ceremony, State Representative tom Odell
- 16:25Smith Republican Corbin praised the facility as a major asset
- 16:30for future generations. These are things that you can dream about.
- 16:35When I was their age, I would have thought it
- 16:38was the Cincinnati Red Smith said, we're not only invested
- 16:42in today, but we're invested in the future. Smith also
- 16:46credited local leadership, noting that projects like the sports park
- 16:51rely on collaboration between state and local officials to meet
- 16:55community needs. Senate President Robert Stiver's Republican Manchester echoed those sentiments,
- 17:03emphasizing the regional impact the complex would have. This can
- 17:08be a cornerstone not just for Barberville and Knox County,
- 17:12but for south east Kentucky. Senator Stivers said, we need
- 17:16to bring outside dollars to the inside. Stivers added that
- 17:21the facility has the potential to attract vistors from all
- 17:25across the region and beyond, boosting local businesses and encouraging
- 17:30further development. Earlier in the evening, Knox Sports Park director
- 17:36Steve Warren described the project as a source of pride
- 17:39for the community, noting its potential to host tournaments and
- 17:43draw tourism. There's nothing like this in this part of
- 17:47the state, Warren said. We want to expand our community
- 17:51and create something people can be proud of officials said
- 17:55the park is ready is already seeing use, with local teams,
- 17:59practice seen on the fields, and tournaments scheduled, including an
- 18:03event expected to bring in dozens of traveling teams this weekend.
- 18:09The grand opening event also featured food, family activities, and
- 18:14community recognition, making what leaders called a significant milestone for
- 18:20Knox County. This is our community, Judge Mitchell said. If
- 18:25we want our people to stay here and raise their families,
- 18:28we have to invest and that's what this is. Our
- 18:33next article is INVEST six O six Showcase held at
- 18:38Creekside Gardens by Macy Swafford London. Two London based businesses
- 18:43were among six Houstern Kentucky companies recognized during the Invest

- 19:05six oh six, an entrepreneurship initiative of the Foundation of
- 19:11for Appalachian Kentucky, the showcase highlighted businesses from Laurel Astell,
- 19:16Carter Martin and Lewis counties. During the event, organizers announced
- 19:21a total of sixty thousand dollars would be awarded to
- 19:25the six businesses and the cohort, with each getting ten
- 19:29thousand dollars. Jessica Bledsoe, director of Impact Investing for the
- 19:34Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky, told attendees the Accelerate six oh
- 19:40six program is a ten week growth accelerator geared toward
- 19:44businesses that are already operating and ready to scale. This
- 19:49is a growth accelerator for businesses that have been in
- 19:53business for at least a year. Bledsoe said, they are
- 19:56ready to grow and scale. Among the business is featured
- 20:00were London based Sustainable Harvest Farm and oftenI lead Ford
- 20:07water Strat of Sustainable Harvest Farm tole the crown up.
- 20:12The farm's mission is rooted in providing quality produce while
- 20:16strengthening the region's local foods system. Our main purpose is
- 20:22to grow in the region and access to organic produce
- 20:27and it kind of builds our whole community, water Strat said.
- 20:31Water Strat said the Laurel County Farm sales produced through
- 20:35several channels, including wholesale markets, its farm Share subscription program,
- 20:41and direct sales to grocery stores such as Whole Foods
- 20:44and cities including Cincinnati, Knoxville, Chattanooga, and Nashville. He said
- 20:50taking part in Accelerate six oh six helped the businesses
- 20:54better evaluate where it should focus its growth. We really
- 20:59wanted toocus on what area of our business we should
- 21:03try to specialize in in trying to determine what's most
- 21:07profitable or at least of the least amount of stress,
- 21:12water Strat said. Looking ahead, water Strats said the farm
- 21:16plans to continue growing its relationship with whole food locations
- 21:21and expand its Community Supported Agriculture or CSA subscriptions. Later
- 21:28in the program, doctor Jordine Carmack of Authentic Lead spoke
- 21:34about helping organizations strengthen leadership and workplace communication skills in
- 21:39an era increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence. Carmac said her
- 21:45company works with nonprofits, schools, public sector agencies, and other
- 21:52mission driven organizations to develop teams through live training and
- 21:56workforce readiness programs. What we do is to help build
- 22:01AI ready and resilient teams for nonprofits and mission driven
- 22:06organizations through leadership development that is practical, engaging and design
- 22:14for organizations where people are the mission doctor Carmack said
- 22:18while the idea of the business grew out of her
- 22:21years in higher education, she saw students struggling with communication,
- 22:26problem solving and collaboration after the pandemic. Doctor Carmack said
- 22:31she also found many organizations understood that they had training needs,
- 22:37but lack the staff or the capacity to intentionally build
- 22:41development programs. They knew that they had a problem, but
- 22:46what were there What were they supposed to do about it?
- 22:49She said, So we exist to close that gap. Authentale
- 22:54has now trained more than three thousand leaders and is
- 22:57continuing to grow beyond Kentucky with the upcoming work scheduled
- 23:01in the in Washington State. Doctor Carmack also reflected on
- 23:06how the invest six O six net network helped her
- 23:11move from side work into entrepreneurship. I realized anybody can
- 23:17become an entrepreneur, she said. I didn't have to stay
- 23:20in higher ed. I could do what I love and
- 23:23serve people all over the country. Other businesses recognized during
- 23:28the showcase included Kentucky Mountain Moonshine in Estell County, O'Brien
- 23:34Archie Incorporated in Carter County, or Calm Group in Martin County,
- 23:40and the Kentucky Coffee Trail in Lewis County. After the

- 24:25recent investigation by the Knox County Sheriff's Office into a
- 24:29series of copper wire thefts has resulted in the arrest
- 24:32of two individuals, as officials continue to emphasize the impact
