Transcript
- 0:02So Rich flexed some muscles,
- 0:05Dawn offered a hand,
- 0:07and the most unlikely people took a trip
- 0:10to Cookville.
- 0:11All that and more as we take a
- 0:13break from the workday to have some lunch
- 0:16with the Clydesdale.
- 0:18Let's go.
- 0:33I love the chase and the hunt,
- 0:35and I set the pace when I'm running.
- 0:36I always take what I want,
- 0:38and I always give it one hundred.
- 0:39Don't need a bank, no I'm funded.
- 0:41Play the game like it's nothing.
- 0:42I'm always thankful for something.
- 0:44Don't take for granted, stay humble.
- 0:45Now wake up!
- 0:47It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:49Look in the mirror if he is no
- 0:50friend to me.
- 0:53what is going on everybody welcome to
- 0:55lunch with the Clydesdale glad to be with
- 0:57you all what is going on Trink Olive
- 1:00Joseph Corey Sarah good to see you all
- 1:03in the chat so glad you could be
- 1:05here what's going on Shay ah Shay doubling
- 1:10up taking a break from watching the Sunday
- 1:12show to watch the lunch live today
- 1:16Man, that is too much Clydesdale,
- 1:19probably.
- 1:19Too much.
- 1:20More than the prescribed amount.
- 1:22I'm positive.
- 1:25We got Jose.
- 1:26We got Terry.
- 1:28How's it going?
- 1:30So two things before we dive into the
- 1:32big story of the weekend is I have
- 1:38had a cricket in my laundry room,
- 1:39which is just on the other side of
- 1:42my podcast area.
- 1:47like the last week he is either multiplied
- 1:54or really hungry for a mate because the
- 1:59the chirps are like insane today so insane
- 2:04um and i hope it doesn't come through
- 2:05the mic i don't think it does but
- 2:07man he is really going at it today
- 2:10Or she.
- 2:11I don't know.
- 2:11I don't know how to tell the difference
- 2:13between a male cricket and a female
- 2:16cricket.
- 2:17But man, the chirps are loud.
- 2:21So, with all the CrossFit stuff going on,
- 2:25did you guys see the big crazy story
- 2:28from the weekend?
- 2:30And that is that...
- 2:33former NFL quarterback and current Fox
- 2:36broadcaster,
- 2:37Mark Sanchez was stabbed in Indianapolis,
- 2:42Indiana.
- 2:44Um,
- 2:47and he was there to do the game
- 2:51between the Colts and the Raiders and
- 2:56the first thing that broke was that he
- 2:58was stabbed.
- 2:59And I was like, that's crazy.
- 3:02So then Brady Quinn filled in for him
- 3:04for the game because he was hop
- 3:06hospitalized originally in critical
- 3:07condition.
- 3:08And then, um, and now in stable condition,
- 3:13but turns out like he was fighting with
- 3:17a six, nine year old man,
- 3:20a truck driver who was at a restaurant
- 3:23to change out the oil from the fryers.
- 3:27And he was parked outside, took, I guess,
- 3:30exchanged the oil.
- 3:32While he came out, Mark was like,
- 3:35he was told by the hotel to tell
- 3:37this truck driver not to be there.
- 3:41And the truck driver was like,
- 3:44I don't know what you're doing.
- 3:47And confronted the guy,
- 3:49ended up crawling into his cab.
- 3:53The guy died.
- 3:55asked him to get out.
- 3:56Mark gets out.
- 3:57He confronts him in the street,
- 3:59starts chasing him around like the area.
- 4:03And again,
- 4:04this guy's sixty nine years old.
- 4:05Mark is a thirty eight year old former
- 4:07NFL quarterback.
- 4:09The guy gets afraid and pepper sprays
- 4:11Sanchez allegedly.
- 4:14And then Sanchez allegedly tackles him
- 4:17into a stack of pallets.
- 4:19The guy gets all beat up from the
- 4:20pallets,
- 4:22reaches into his
- 4:24pocket pulls out a pocket knife and stabs
- 4:26mark sanchez like three times flees from
- 4:32the scene and then flies into the nearest
- 4:35open establishment he can find to hide
- 4:38from mark sanchez
- 4:40And now they're both hospitalized with all
- 4:43the injuries from this occurrence.
- 4:45And just before I came down,
- 4:47Mark Sanchez was charged with felony
- 4:51battery against this individual.
- 4:55And the Fox News station in Indianapolis
- 5:00has shown pictures of the victim,
- 5:03the sixty nine year old man.
- 5:05And it's crazy.
- 5:08And it's one of those stories like you
- 5:12have this Mark Sanchez,
- 5:13this former NFL quarterback.
- 5:17He's doing well with Fox, you think.
- 5:23And then this incident happens out of
- 5:28nowhere.
- 5:30He's married to an actress,
- 5:32and they've been able to put all the
- 5:35story I told you together because of
- 5:39security camera footage of the whole
- 5:41thing, which does,
- 5:43from the interview with the police
- 5:46officer, the detective,
- 5:50corroborates the truck driver's story.
- 5:54But again, this is all alleged.
- 5:58And Terry, yeah, there is video.
- 6:00There is security cam footage of the
- 6:02entire thing, apparently.
- 6:04And it is.
- 6:07It's crazy.
- 6:10But I cannot believe like all this
- 6:12happened.
- 6:15And I see that Corey said like cocaine
- 6:17is a weird drug and things like after
- 6:20midnight.
- 6:21Uh, yeah, it's,
- 6:23you've got to think it's got to be
- 6:24drug induced, right?
- 6:26They said he was slurring a speech and
- 6:27apparently drunk, but like,
- 6:30I've never known alcohol to do that to
- 6:33a person.
- 6:34Um,
- 6:36but maybe I just haven't experienced
- 6:38anything like that.
- 6:39Yeah.
- 6:40Aaron Frazier,
- 6:40nothing good after midnight.
- 6:46usually sixty five and older makes it a
- 6:48felony battery.
- 6:50I think any time you would tackle somebody
- 6:52into a stack of pallets because those
- 6:55pallets are not well constructed.
- 6:57Right.
- 6:58And then.
- 7:00And I think that the guy from the
- 7:03pictures look like he he got cut up
- 7:08pretty bad from that that attack there.
- 7:11So I think it was even regardless of
- 7:13age, he was going to get the felony.
- 7:18Vicky said psych problems.
- 7:19Maybe I, I thought the same thing.
- 7:21It might've been a psych problems for
- 7:23sure.
- 7:26And it's crazy.
- 7:27Cause he like Mark has never been known
- 7:29as like that guy.
- 7:31Right.
- 7:32It really caught me out of,
- 7:37I don't know.
- 7:37I've never been,
- 7:38I that's why it caught me off guard.
- 7:40Cause he was never that guy that he's
- 7:43always seemed to be like up and up.
- 7:46Yeah, that's what my wife said,
- 7:47Shanna CTE.
- 7:49She immediately went to CTE.
- 7:52So I'm sure we're gonna learn a lot
- 7:54more in the coming days.
- 7:55But damn.
- 7:57There it is like all in front of
- 7:58you.
- 7:58You're working for Fox,
- 7:59you're making good money.
- 8:01And this comes out of the blue.
- 8:03I'm trying to find the pictures real
- 8:05quick.
- 8:06But I'm having a hard time.
- 8:08Hard time finding those.
- 8:11Again, I saw them this morning.
- 8:15but I don't know the source where I
- 8:16saw them.
- 8:19So, um, train all of,
- 8:24have they fired him yet?
- 8:24I don't believe they have.
- 8:26I'm guessing they're waiting for details.
- 8:30Um,
- 8:31the only statement that Fox made was
- 8:35wishing him a speedy recovery.
- 8:38Uh, so I don't know.
- 8:44Joseph says he never played enough to get
- 8:46CTE.
- 8:46Maybe the butt fumble did it.
- 8:50I don't think it's how much you played.
- 8:52And Joseph,
- 8:53you got to remember from his rookie season
- 8:55for the first three years of his career,
- 8:57he was in the AFC championship game.
- 8:59So he wasn't only playing a full regular
- 9:03season.
- 9:04He was playing playoffs as well in those
- 9:05first three years.
- 9:07And it's about the amount of...
- 9:12how hard the contact was in addition to
- 9:14like how many times the contact occurred
- 9:21uh yeah and andrew makes a good point
- 9:29he played a ton in college and before
- 9:31that as well
- 9:40Vicky,
- 9:41have I seen the Modern Twenty-Five game
- 9:43documentary?
- 9:45If not, you may enjoy that.
- 9:48I think I have.
- 9:50I think I have,
- 9:51but it may have been a minute.
- 9:54I'll have to check that out again and
- 9:57make sure.
- 9:58But I do think I saw it.
- 10:07Okay.
- 10:09So anyway,
- 10:09just a little weird story that happened I
- 10:11wanted to hit on before we got into
- 10:15the stuff.
- 10:17We talked about it briefly last night on
- 10:19the Sunday night show,
- 10:20and that is that Rich Froning, of course,
- 10:25over the past few months has been making
- 10:28plans,
- 10:29according to him on the Coffee Pods and
- 10:31Wads podcast and his own podcast,
- 10:34to set themselves up for...
- 10:39a way to move forward depending on how
- 10:44the sale of CrossFit was going to go.
- 10:47And then this weekend,
- 10:50he was speaking at the Coaches Congress in
- 10:53London.
- 10:54And during his speech, Don Fall got up,
- 10:58said that the reason there haven't been
- 11:00the conversations was on him,
- 11:04meaning Don Fall.
- 11:07And he offered up...
- 11:09a sit down with rich to talk about
- 11:13what he wants,
- 11:14what he wants to see all those kinds
- 11:16of things.
- 11:17I reached out to Jake from the base
- 11:19show and asked like,
- 11:21how was that received?
- 11:22Did rich seem to accept it?
- 11:25He said, yes, he did seem very receptive.
- 11:27He did seem to accept it.
- 11:30And the crowd then applauded when they,
- 11:33they saw, um,
- 11:35this coming together of the two.
- 11:40Since that, some things have come out.
- 11:45And this was on a comment section from
- 11:49Savan's video about Austin Maliolo
- 11:52yesterday.
- 11:55And it is Rich's dad, Rich Sr.,
- 11:59Put this, you know,
- 12:01I get tired of this kind of gobbledygook.
- 12:04And he puts together like this list of
- 12:07six things that are truths about where
- 12:11Rich stands with CrossFit.
- 12:14The first ones are pretty well,
- 12:15we all know.
- 12:16Rich has maintained through the years that
- 12:18Greg's CrossFit methodology is solid.
- 12:20CrossFit Mayhem is based on, has,
- 12:23will be consistent with that methodology.
- 12:26Austin will be supporting our Mayhem
- 12:28CrossFit affiliates.
- 12:30Y'all have no idea of the background
- 12:32bullshit that's gone on with CrossFit HQ
- 12:34over the last few years.
- 12:36And here's the big zinger.
- 12:38And it was good to have a couple
- 12:41Berkshire Hathaway peeps in the gym a
- 12:44couple weeks ago.
- 12:48So Berkshire, not Berkshire Hathaway,
- 12:52but Berkshire is the private equity
- 12:55company that owns CrossFit.
- 12:58They made a trip to Cookville to meet
- 13:01with Rich apparently and hang out at the
- 13:04gym.
- 13:07That is an interesting development.
- 13:11But what I find very peculiar are
- 13:14Berkshire are Dawn Falls bosses.
- 13:18If they went there a couple weeks ago...
- 13:22And it was just yesterday or the day
- 13:24before that Don Fall offered the hand and
- 13:28offered up a sit down.
- 13:31Where are we?
- 13:37Are Berkshire and the CEO on the same
- 13:39page is a big question I have.
- 13:43And...
- 13:46Where are we with the sale?
- 13:48To me, and I said this last night,
- 13:51we made a factor fiction two Sunday nights
- 13:53ago where I said factor fiction that
- 13:56CrossFit is not really for sale.
- 13:58They've just been duping us.
- 14:00And that was a joke in my mind
- 14:01when I wrote it.
- 14:03It was just like my impatience of that
- 14:06nothing has happened.
- 14:07And now from that point forward,
- 14:11and it's only been a week,
- 14:13I am more and more convinced that that
- 14:14was actually a fact.
- 14:16I don't think CrossFit is for sale
- 14:18anymore.
- 14:19I don't think they're going to sell.
- 14:22And I think that Berkshire and Dawnfall
- 14:25are scrambling to get their eggs in the
- 14:29same basket and their ducks in a row,
- 14:32if I'm going to use a bunch of
- 14:33cliches, to get things right.
- 14:38So my big question,
- 14:40and I know I'm just kind of rambling
- 14:41here as it's all coming into me,
- 14:44is that
- 14:46did Berkshire realize that the value of
- 14:50CrossFit isn't what they thought it was?
- 14:53did they realize that the threat of mayhem
- 14:56leaving is such a big threat that they
- 14:58can't sell with a guarantee that they'll
- 15:01keep enough affiliates to fulfill the
- 15:04contract of the sale?
- 15:07It's been mentioned,
- 15:09especially on Savant show that when Greg
- 15:11sold the company,
- 15:12there was a caveat in that contract that
- 15:16X number of affiliates had to stay with
- 15:18CrossFit for the sale to be final.
- 15:22and that that is possible it could be
- 15:25still there uh during this this sale or
- 15:30lack thereof and then once they found it
- 15:35wasn't worth what they thought it was
- 15:37that's why we've seen all the changes in
- 15:41what the way crossfit is is going about
- 15:44things better marketing campaigns
- 15:47better content daily content on their
- 15:51channels a CrossFit podcast that's active
- 15:54now a schedule release for next season
- 15:58already all these things right because now
- 16:03they're realizing after five years that
- 16:06they need to write this ship in a
- 16:08way that makes sense and grows the company
- 16:11again for them to even be able to
- 16:14sell it off
- 16:17Because I think what they've learned is
- 16:19they've screwed it up so bad that it's
- 16:24a poison pill to sell.
- 16:26You're not really getting anything from
- 16:28that.
- 16:30And unless they clean up the house and
- 16:35get things on the right track,
- 16:37they're not going to be able to sell
- 16:39it off.
- 16:42I'm anxious to know your thoughts on that
- 16:44because I think that
- 16:46that's a huge wake-up call.
- 16:48And if that's what it took for them
- 16:51to like take a step back and start
- 16:54doing things in the right direction and
- 16:56actually start trying to grow this thing
- 17:00again, maybe that's what they needed.
- 17:03They needed to put themselves out there
- 17:04for sale and realize nobody wants them.
- 17:12Well,
- 17:13nobody wants them at the price that they
- 17:15have.
- 17:16let's just say that i think a lot
- 17:21of people will want them it's just not
- 17:25at that that the asking price so uh
- 17:33vicky says all of the above yeah i
- 17:36think it is all of the above so
- 17:40why the disconnect now where a couple
- 17:43weeks ago berkshire in cookville
- 17:46the board,
- 17:48the people that actually own CrossFit,
- 17:51and then the CEO just two days ago
- 17:54saying, hey, this is all on me,
- 17:56the lack of communication.
- 17:58Let's have a sit-down.
- 18:01Well, apparently Rich has had a sit-down.
- 18:04If everything Rich Sr.
- 18:06is telling us in this post is true,
- 18:09they've already had the sit-down with the
- 18:10board.
- 18:12I don't know what a sit-down with Don
- 18:14Fall does at this point.
- 18:17Where he wants to make inroads would be
- 18:20with the board, the board of directors,
- 18:25the people that own the company.
- 18:29The CEO is just their mouthpiece.
- 18:37So...
- 18:43I feel like,
- 18:44and I said this again last night a
- 18:46little bit,
- 18:46but I want to expand on it.
- 18:50We are so nutso and nerdy about the
- 18:52sport that we talk about the sport so
- 19:00much.
- 19:01And really what the sale is about is
- 19:03the affiliates.
- 19:05And I think that the bigger affiliates and
- 19:08rich being one of them have the power
- 19:11right now to say, um,
- 19:16who have the power right now to say
- 19:22something, are these mega affiliates?
- 19:24Like you have people like CrossFit NYC,
- 19:26CrossFit Brooklyn, CrossFit Lou,
- 19:29they all have over a thousand members.
- 19:33Those affiliates, along with Mayhem,
- 19:36who Mayhem just has the biggest brand,
- 19:40they have built their brand so big that
- 19:43even though they don't have the number of
- 19:48athletes that those places have,
- 19:50do have...
- 19:52as much pool and leeway because of their
- 19:55brand and their connection to so many of
- 19:58the affiliate network, um,
- 20:01that they really have some things to say.
- 20:06Uh, Vicki,
- 20:08I think the two choices they had,
- 20:10especially after the twenty four games is
- 20:12fire sale,
- 20:13take a massive hit or fix as much
- 20:15as we can and rebuild value for X
- 20:17time to try to sell again.
- 20:21I think the rebuild part took too long
- 20:25from the twenty four games, in my opinion.
- 20:27I think they thought they could fire sale,
- 20:30but they didn't realize how massive of a
- 20:31hit they would take.
- 20:33So I think it's a combination of the
- 20:35two.
- 20:36They tried to do the fire sale with
- 20:38limited hit and that didn't work.
- 20:41So now they're trying to rebuild and will
- 20:44probably try to sell again later.
- 20:48Sarah Cooper there also battling High
- 20:49Rocks takeover at a lot of gyms.
- 20:55I don't think High Rocks is ever going
- 20:57to take over CrossFit.
- 21:01I don't know.
- 21:03High Rocks is great for what it is.
- 21:06To me,
- 21:06it's just a five K or a half
- 21:09miler or a triathlon.
- 21:11It's a thing that people go do.
- 21:15they have fun doing it and that's awesome
- 21:17and it's fine to have in the space
- 21:19but as a gym methodology to i don't
- 21:24think that's going to fly for very long
- 21:26if you're just doing the same x number
- 21:29of movements over and over and over again
- 21:33but i could be wrong uh jenny says
- 21:38the list of people take dawnfall seriously
- 21:40is small it's wild he did that so
- 21:42publicly
- 21:44I just wonder if the board is giving
- 21:47him more power or more leeway these days
- 21:51than they did before.
- 21:56That's what I find interesting.
- 22:02But again,
- 22:04they made him be the fall guy for
- 22:07so much of what the board decided.
- 22:10They have probably limited his power.
- 22:14And now... I almost...
- 22:18I almost believe that if they want to
- 22:20move forward and try to fix everything,
- 22:23they're going to have to replace Don.
- 22:25Because they let him be the fall guy
- 22:27for too long.
- 22:34Um...
- 22:41They realize that all things Rich wants is
- 22:43ultimately what's best for CrossFit and
- 22:44therefore Barrett Berkshire.
- 22:48I think that Rich has valuable insight.
- 22:52Does that mean that I think everything
- 22:54Rich does is perfect?
- 22:56Probably not.
- 22:58But I do think he deserves it.
- 23:00I do believe these big affiliates deserve
- 23:03a seat at the table to talk.
- 23:06if you're attracting a thousand members or
- 23:09your mayhem, who's built this big empire,
- 23:12you're doing something right.
- 23:14And they should have a seat at the
- 23:15table to talk about what they've learned
- 23:17and what they're doing.
- 23:19And after talking to, or not talking to,
- 23:21but listening to Jake on the Bay show
- 23:23this morning,
- 23:25Like the one thing that Mayhem does is
- 23:26they have a mission statement and they
- 23:28believe in that mission statement and they
- 23:30work toward that mission statement.
- 23:33I have contended on this show for the
- 23:34past couple months that CrossFit doesn't
- 23:37have that mission statement or North Star
- 23:40to go after.
- 23:42Now, F the Fix, I think,
- 23:43is a move in that direction.
- 23:45It may be going after GLP-Ones is in
- 23:48that direction,
- 23:49but they need to put something on paper
- 23:52that they believe in as an entity to
- 23:54bring the community together to fight
- 23:57against.
- 23:59Forever it was sugar.
- 24:00And maybe that's still the thing we need
- 24:02to go after.
- 24:03But when Greg sold the company,
- 24:05that's the piece that we lost the most,
- 24:09is that thing you have to fight over,
- 24:11that thing you have to fight for.
- 24:14And Mayhem has it because they have a
- 24:18mission that they believe in,
- 24:20and everything they do is surrounded by
- 24:22that mission.
- 24:25I think that is where CrossFit is lacking.
- 24:36All the people probably say what he wants
- 24:38to hear for years and they do whatever
- 24:40they want, probably tired of it.
- 24:42And that was what I kind of took
- 24:44about when asked about Dave.
- 24:46He knows he will do what he wants.
- 24:48Yeah, I think so.
- 25:00Uh, it's all optics desperation.
- 25:03It shows the hand they are holding.
- 25:04It's all optics.
- 25:06Yeah.
- 25:17Hasn't Castro been more of the fall guy,
- 25:19especially for Lazar?
- 25:20I do believe that Dave was the fall
- 25:22guy for Lazar for sure.
- 25:24For sure.
- 25:24I've said that on here too,
- 25:26that I believe that Dave was put out
- 25:28there at the games in twenty four to
- 25:30take all the bullets.
- 25:31And that's why everybody wanted him fired
- 25:33because he took all that on.
- 25:36I think Don has taken the bullets for
- 25:39the lack of direction and the lack of
- 25:41focus for the last three or four years.
- 25:48David Reed,
- 25:49private equity goals in CrossFit are not
- 25:50compatible.
- 25:51One is twenty percent growth year over
- 25:53year and the other is public health.
- 25:56Amen, brother.
- 26:03Yeah, just Mark.
- 26:04Yeah, I think if you're buying CrossFit,
- 26:07you need to tie the purchase to retention
- 26:09of affiliates.
- 26:10Rich is a threat to that.
- 26:11If he doesn't like the new buyer,
- 26:12Berkshire has to get a feel for the
- 26:14climate and the risk for sure.
- 26:19And we have a new member.
- 26:20Thank you so much, Frida.
- 26:23Appreciate you so much.
- 26:25That means so much to us,
- 26:27having all these members support the
- 26:29channel.
- 26:30It helps us put the show up every
- 26:32single day.
- 26:37Uh,
- 26:38anyone else feel like all the secrecy and
- 26:41I know this, but you don't.
- 26:43And I know that,
- 26:44but you don't know stuff is a little
- 26:45over the top.
- 26:46It should not be that serious.
- 26:48I'm over the hierarchy approach.
- 26:51I think is what she said.
- 26:53Um, yeah, yeah.
- 26:59This is why I left private equity and
- 27:01started my own company.
- 27:02If you just do everything right,
- 27:04the money just falls into place.
- 27:05Rich understands that Berkshire doesn't
- 27:07yet.
- 27:09Yeah.
- 27:11I'm just hoping they do eventually.
- 27:13I mean, I just,
- 27:14I want it to be here.
- 27:15I want it to be around.
- 27:16I want CrossFit to live and move on.
- 27:21And, um,
- 27:25Yeah.
- 27:26And I want someone to in there that
- 27:29or a group of people in there that
- 27:31are going to take that seriously and take
- 27:36the thing that saved my life and keep
- 27:38it around for others for years to come.
- 27:45Extra sloppy.
- 27:45They are probably turning that corner.
- 27:48I hope so, man.
- 27:51think a lot of us have been rooting
- 27:52for a corner change for a while now
- 27:55and i hope i hope this is it
- 28:02From what I've heard,
- 28:03Rich was promoting the Open a ton at
- 28:07the Coaches Congress.
- 28:11If we can have a flat-out,
- 28:14awesome Open season where the community
- 28:17comes together again and we all sweat and
- 28:19we all hurt and we all do the
- 28:21things we need to do,
- 28:23I think that'll be a huge step in
- 28:24the right direction.
- 28:26I love that they're being more transparent
- 28:28by getting things out sooner.
- 28:30I love that they're using the media again.
- 28:33I just started watching the CrossFit
- 28:38podcast that aired this morning.
- 28:41Not very far into it,
- 28:42but talking about affiliates and what
- 28:44we're doing wrong and what we're doing
- 28:46right.
- 28:47And like that content has to keep coming.
- 28:51And I'm so glad that they're starting to
- 28:52do that now.
- 28:56But yeah.
- 29:02So I think we've come to a couple
- 29:05conclusions.
- 29:07I do believe that Rich has some pool.
- 29:10And I think he has more than people
- 29:12think.
- 29:13And I did see a comment where someone
- 29:15said,
- 29:18that he would stay affiliated for his
- 29:21competitors to be able to compete in the
- 29:23season.
- 29:25But if Rich doesn't publicly say he's
- 29:28CrossFit,
- 29:29I believe there are enough people
- 29:30influenced by him that will leave,
- 29:33even though he will, in hiding,
- 29:36be an affiliate just to be able to
- 29:38do the CrossFit game workouts and such
- 29:41throughout the season.
- 29:44And two,
- 29:45I think we learned that CrossFit's not for
- 29:48sale anymore.
- 29:49Something has happened.
- 29:50Something has blown up that sale,
- 29:53and we're going to move on as is.
- 29:59I think the biggest change coming will be
- 30:02probably a new CEO.
- 30:09So we'll see.
- 30:19Larry Young.
- 30:19I'll hurt and sweat.
- 30:22I'm like,
- 30:22how am I going to work out today?
- 30:24I'm sore.
- 30:25Yeah.
- 30:26But we love that.
- 30:28Why'd you do this to me today?
- 30:29I'll see you tomorrow.
- 30:37Jonathan, knowing Rich,
- 30:38he would not be in hiding.
- 30:40I think that what I'm referring to is
- 30:42his comments that he would take CrossFit
- 30:45off all of his signages,
- 30:47off of all of his branding,
- 30:49and it would just be mayhem if he
- 30:51decides to leave CrossFit,
- 30:54but he would keep an active affiliate to
- 30:56be able to do all the workouts at
- 31:00mayhem and not have to find another place
- 31:02to do it.
- 31:03So that's why I say in hiding,
- 31:05it doesn't mean he's like lurking behind
- 31:07the trees,
- 31:08but he is just not going to publicly
- 31:11show CrossFit forward facing moving
- 31:15forward.
- 31:17And hopefully that changes.
- 31:18Hopefully something has happened where
- 31:21he's got to talk to people.
- 31:23He has been able to influence people in
- 31:25a way that will keep him around as
- 31:30a great spokesman for CrossFit and the
- 31:34greater CrossFit ecosystem.
- 31:43Vicky, the IG media feels current,
- 31:45but the podcast needs a little something.
- 31:48I like Denise a lot,
- 31:49but there's something about the show
- 31:50that's missing.
- 31:52That said,
- 31:52at least it's more consistent lately.
- 31:56Here's what I'll tell you my belief is.
- 32:02Because of the current format of the
- 32:04podcast sphere overall,
- 32:08If you don't go live and it's edited,
- 32:12people feel like it's homogenized and the
- 32:16podcast is not real or not completely real
- 32:20or something is being held back or
- 32:22something has been cut out.
- 32:25If you go live,
- 32:26all of that is taken away.
- 32:28There is no hiding what is said.
- 32:30There is no erasing words that you said
- 32:32that you didn't want to say.
- 32:34None of that.
- 32:35It's just you being transparent and open
- 32:38with an audience.
- 32:40So whenever I watch a recorded podcast,
- 32:43that's how I feel,
- 32:44just like what you described here.
- 32:47It's missing something.
- 32:48It's missing a piece.
- 32:52And it's like,
- 32:57What they don't understand is they think
- 32:59people want polished and refined when it
- 33:02comes to their podcast when their
- 33:04methodology is the exact opposite.
- 33:07It is gritty in a box.
- 33:10Until recently, you are the machine,
- 33:14not machines,
- 33:15and you could do it in an open
- 33:17warehouse and anybody could walk in and do
- 33:20it.
- 33:21And here you are as a podcast presenting
- 33:23that methodology in a polished fashion
- 33:27that doesn't freaking make sense and
- 33:29doesn't even align with your ideals as
- 33:32what your methodology is.
- 33:35It's supposed to be raw and gritty.
- 33:38And nobody cares.
- 33:41The only ones I feel that are of
- 33:44value,
- 33:47and it doesn't mean they're not of value.
- 33:48How do I say?
- 33:49The ones that speak to me more are
- 33:51when it's a group of people sitting around
- 33:53the same table and they're talking back
- 33:56and forth.
- 33:57That seems a little more authentic to me
- 34:00than the Zoom call edited.
- 34:05But
- 34:08That's my opinion.
- 34:09And you can even take that example to
- 34:12like Talking Elite Fitness.
- 34:13Talking Elite Fitness doesn't go live.
- 34:17And I think they're missing something with
- 34:19that.
- 34:21They're trying to be polished instead of
- 34:24just talking from the heart.
- 34:26And if there's one thing I've learned in
- 34:27this business, talk from the heart,
- 34:30talk how you believe,
- 34:32and that's
- 34:33that will take you a lot further than
- 34:35having the shiniest toy in the toy box.
- 34:49Yes, very curated.
- 34:52And you can control it.
- 34:53You can control the scene.
- 34:54You don't have to worry about what people
- 34:56say.
- 35:05So, yeah.
- 35:11Say what you mean, mean what you say,
- 35:12but don't say it mean.
- 35:21Can it be because they are afraid of
- 35:22burning bridges?
- 35:27Let me ask you,
- 35:27let me pose this question to you in
- 35:29another way, Frida.
- 35:30Yeah.
- 35:33when crossfit was at the height of its
- 35:35growth so we're talking fourteen fifteen
- 35:39sixteen height of its growth did they care
- 35:44about burning bridges
- 35:49They were unapologetically,
- 35:51this is who we are.
- 35:52This is what we're here to do.
- 35:54We're here to save lives.
- 35:56We're here to make people stronger.
- 35:58We're going to get people to stop eating
- 36:00sugar.
- 36:01We're going to get them off the couch.
- 36:03And if you don't like that, too bad.
- 36:05But that's what we're here to do.
- 36:10So why have we flipped the script to
- 36:12being very methodical?
- 36:15It's this whole private equity world that
- 36:18they want to have control over the message
- 36:20that goes out.
- 36:23How about trusting the people you bring in
- 36:26to convey the mission and the message that
- 36:28you have?
- 36:43Jonathan Ortega,
- 36:44many podcasts are not live.
- 36:45I think CrossFit podcasts are like the one
- 36:47percent that is live.
- 36:49Right.
- 36:49But that is what is acceptable now in
- 36:52this.
- 36:54In this genre or in this space,
- 36:57and if you're not doing that,
- 36:59then the audience is not there for you.
- 37:06David Reed, if you try to please everyone,
- 37:08you please no one.
- 37:10And I believe that is the anchor that
- 37:14has been holding back CrossFit since
- 37:16private equity bought them.
- 37:18They are trying to appeal to the masses
- 37:21and try to please everyone.
- 37:23And they thought that would help grow what
- 37:26CrossFit is.
- 37:28And in fact, it did the opposite.
- 37:29It's alienated people.
- 37:31And now people have a mixed message as
- 37:33to what you are.
- 37:36And with a mixed message means you're
- 37:38going to lose people.
- 37:44I really think they need to have that
- 37:46sit down with Rich,
- 37:48talk about why they came up with their
- 37:50mission, how they as an entity,
- 37:53because I've worked for a lot of companies
- 37:54that came up with a mission statement,
- 37:56and it doesn't matter if you come up
- 37:57with it if you don't follow it.
- 37:59The thing that Mayhem does better than
- 38:02anybody is they made a mission,
- 38:04and they follow it to a T.
- 38:07That is their core beliefs.
- 38:09That is who they are as an entity,
- 38:11and they have grown tremendously because
- 38:14of it.
- 38:19CrossFit has not done that.
- 38:22We don't have that leader that said, hey,
- 38:25we're fighting sugar,
- 38:27and we're doing this,
- 38:29this is how we're going to do it
- 38:31we don't have that person anymore and we
- 38:34don't have anything written down to follow
- 38:36anymore agree on that scott it's just that
- 38:50people seem to be more afraid and to
- 38:52hold on to what they have
- 38:54But if you're holding on so tightly to
- 38:56what you have, it's slipping away anyway.
- 39:01And eventually you're going to lose your
- 39:03grip on that too.
- 39:10Isn't Rich's podcast recording?
- 39:12It is.
- 39:12It is.
- 39:16And there are exceptions to every rule,
- 39:18Jonathan.
- 39:19And Rich is such an icon in the
- 39:23space that people want to hear what he
- 39:25has to say.
- 39:26And I don't think anybody that listens to
- 39:28Rich thinks he's not saying what he
- 39:31believes.
- 39:34Where I don't think that the same trust
- 39:40has been earned by CrossFit coaches
- 39:47I don't think that people believe
- 39:49everything that comes out of their mouth
- 39:51like they do with Rich.
- 39:53I think Rich has been true to himself
- 39:56for fifteen years in the space and has
- 39:59earned the trust of everybody that
- 40:01whatever he says is what he says,
- 40:03where I don't think people truly believe
- 40:06that about CrossFit.
- 40:07They have not earned that trust from
- 40:09people yet or earned it back.
- 40:17Exactly, Vicki, just like personal goals.
- 40:20Does this decision align with my goal of
- 40:22XYZ and my integrity, who I am?
- 40:25And I think you can say that about
- 40:27Rich every day of the week and two
- 40:29times on Sunday.
- 40:31Can you say that about CrossFit?
- 40:33I don't think so.
- 40:35I don't think all of their decisions are
- 40:37based on whatever their goals are.
- 40:41And I don't know if they even know
- 40:42what the goals are.
- 40:46And I think that's the biggest problem.
- 40:49They don't have direction of what those
- 40:54goals could be.
- 40:59So they need a leader to set them
- 41:02straight on that.
- 41:04Maybe talk to a Rich Froning.
- 41:05How did you come up with your mission?
- 41:07What do you do to make sure that
- 41:09mission is being upheld by everybody in
- 41:11your organization,
- 41:25Our goal is to find a goal.
- 41:26There you go.
- 41:28Well,
- 41:28that should be goal number one for sure.
- 41:35All right, guys,
- 41:35it's getting to the end of the lunch
- 41:36hour.
- 41:37I told you guys on Friday,
- 41:38I was going to try to watch Superman
- 41:40and the Charlie Sheen documentary.
- 41:43I did get both of those in this
- 41:44weekend.
- 41:46I will tell you, the new Superman,
- 41:48I thought it was a good movie.
- 41:49I thought it was fine.
- 41:51I would probably give it a B to
- 41:53a B-plus rating.
- 41:57I thought it was entertaining,
- 41:59but I didn't get that goosebump,
- 42:00chill superhero moment that I've gotten in
- 42:03other superhero movies.
- 42:04And at times, I felt like the...
- 42:10Uh,
- 42:10I felt like the dog was more of
- 42:12the superhero in the focus than Superman
- 42:15himself.
- 42:17And then the AKA Charlie Sheen documentary
- 42:20was insane, insane.
- 42:23Um, again, I grew up with Charlie Sheen.
- 42:26Uh,
- 42:26what platoon was one of the first movies
- 42:28I saw at the movie theater.
- 42:30I'm a major league fan, fanatic, um,
- 42:35Plus, you know, the whole Brat Pack years.
- 42:37And I love Two and a Half Men.
- 42:38I've loved the whole thing.
- 42:39But, man,
- 42:40that guy has lived a cursed and wild
- 42:43life.
- 42:44And if you have some time,
- 42:46the documentary is well worth it.
- 42:48I hope he is finally down the demons
- 42:52and is moving on with life.
- 43:00Megan Baum and Christopher Reeves will
- 43:01probably always be my favorite Superman.
- 43:03Superman one is one of the best movies
- 43:05ever.
- 43:06It lost its way as it went into
- 43:09sequels,
- 43:10but I will give you like Superman one
- 43:11was amazing.
- 43:12I really did like Henry Cavill,
- 43:15but I thought the writing in the last
- 43:16couple of supermans was a little off.
- 43:20So yeah, I'll probably go with you too.
- 43:22Christopher Reeves is probably the best
- 43:23one.
- 43:26And.
- 43:28Everybody, member, daily visitor, Jody,
- 43:33Jody Lynn, happy birthday.
- 43:35You're the best.
- 43:36It's so good to see you in here
- 43:37every day,
- 43:38but I wanted to wish you a happy
- 43:39birthday.
- 43:40Before I leave today, you are awesome,
- 43:44and I hope you have an amazing day
- 43:46selling five million cabinets today or
- 43:49designing five million cabinets,
- 43:51whatever that might be.

- 44:20the Clydesdale where I get to sit down
- 44:22with my buddy, Josh Hicks,
- 44:24and talk about safety and the health
- 44:27around the CrossFit events.
- 44:31With that, check everybody tomorrow.
- 44:34Boo, I can't find the button.
- 44:36Bye, guys.
