- 1:44as always, we are back to talk the lack of us. This is
- 1:48the last episode of season one, episode nine. We made it here despite
- 1:56everything, our reservations, the spider reseras, despite the manness, despite the
- 2:01depression, despite getting clowned on our YouTube channel for saying that we you know,
- 2:07had different opinions. Oh god, it's just too dark for you guys
- 2:12night. Yeah, maybe I was like, wow, you clown for being
- 2:17emotional, clown for not being emotional. We got like, it's like whatever,
- 2:21Like, but I appreciate you watching and listening. But yeah, thank
- 2:23you for the comments. As always, yeah we're here. This episode nine
- 2:27titled look for the Lights. This is a finale that here. Listen.
- 2:34Well, I mean, Joel made some people see the light, that's for
- 2:36sure. They don't miss them anymore. Boy, they found it. It
- 2:44met that man across My god, Joe was like, don't worry about that.
- 2:51I got you. Then, I mean, I like, should we
- 2:55should we get the overall or should we just saying don't do it? The
- 2:59right way, like hot, we liked and overall I enjoying this episode.
- 3:05Okay, let's say a series WI it's a good, solid show. I
- 3:12would rate it about a seven to ten overall, you know, first season
- 3:16about seven to ten. Yeah, I think I think Pedro and Bella raised
- 3:23it occasionally to a nine of ten, and then everything goes occasionally dragged it
- 3:29down to about a five of ten. Oh yeah, yeah, I'd say
- 3:32that. I'd say that pretty sternly because it's very good assessment. Man,
- 3:37I A bee with you. It's Bomonie Jones made a point the other day.
- 3:40I think I mentioned when he was talking about the Wire versus Snowfall,
- 3:44right, and he's like, first of all, the wires just on another
- 3:46level, just entirely. Second Row, Snowfall is a show that has incredible
- 3:51actors that are sometimes dragged down by the material that they have to deliver,
- 3:55right, And people rate it so high because these actors are so good.
- 4:00And that's how I feel about this show. I feel like Pedro and Bella
- 4:03are doing i mean, just fucking in unbelievable work. Yeah, the Lord's
- 4:11work on this show. And then there are things that are like as people
- 4:15brought up last week. You know, we talked about the cartoonishness of the
- 4:19big Boss villain and people say straight from the game, etc. And etcetera.
- 4:24And as other reviews pointed out, yere okay, As other reviews pointed
- 4:28out, the game isn't so on the nose about things. And that's one
- 4:32of the things that I have problems with this episode and with this series in
- 4:35general, as I feel the writing must have been dumbed down. As for
- 4:40someone who's never played the game, I feel like it had to have been
- 4:42dumbed down because there's moments like, oh, yeah, I mean I was
- 4:46just talking about this with my boy. We were on vacations that we're talking
- 4:48about the He's like, my man said, He's like, what's dude like
- 4:51with that's fetish? You know, Oh, I've been waiting for our burning
- 4:55building baby final trying to get you know, like that really very strange.
- 5:02And in the video game it might work because you know, there's fire and
- 5:04your characters to dodge the fire and stuff, and you know, and also
- 5:09in the video game, he doesn't make the direct attempt to you know,
- 5:14hard word yeah, to do that. You know, I don't mean I'm
- 5:16like saying those words. But yeah, he doesn't make the attempt to do
- 5:18that. You know, he just is trying to kill a shorty pretty much.
- 5:21And then it's you know, the subtext is that's what he wants,
- 5:26right, and that I've been waiting my whole life next. And I can
- 5:30see in dramatic instances where like, you know, the building's happening to got
- 5:34on fire and it's happening it's not, you know, and it's just like
- 5:36it's stuff happening around you at the same time concurrently, and to your point,
- 5:41he's just trying to unlive her. But yes, for like in this
- 5:45show, it just didn't translate properly. It was thought about Kathleen like less
- 5:50twice in a season. That's what I'm saying. Prioritize. So Ben,
- 5:55I I agree with your assessment, your numerical assessment, and the resent I
- 6:00would add on For me personally, the Billing Frame episode was a ten out
- 6:04of ten for me. Yes, yeah, damn close. You know,
- 6:09it's ten is so tough to say, you know, but it was a
- 6:11ten. I don't, you know, it's tough. It's tough. You
- 6:14know, it's like the dunk contest. You know, doing a fifty,
- 6:15you get the tens across the board from me, you know it's over.
- 6:21You give it was it was different for me, Like it's just it's the
- 6:28when you tap into that level of emotion and relatability, and particularly for me,
- 6:36I gotta say emotion twice because it's just like I removed myself from like
- 6:41I know, at the end of the day, no matter how involved I
- 6:43get, this is fiction that this is a story that I'm watching that I'm
- 6:46taking out. I'm outside of that bubble. But to get me close to
- 6:50like standing there and being like, yo, I'm part of that family or
- 6:54I feel like I am have a true investment in it. To do that
- 6:58that is strong work for me, and that's why I particularly gave that episode
- 7:01such high marks. So beyond that, like I agree with you with the
- 7:05numbers, I think all of that makes sense overall this they worked this genre
- 7:13well there. Yes there were pitfalls, Yes there were the misgivings, but
- 7:16they still worked at genre. They still even to this episode great in having
- 7:21me and fearful, like just in a state of constant fear and anxiety throughout.
- 7:28And that's the point. Yeah, and I will go back to that
- 7:31episode, and like I said, it's tough for me to get things ten.
- 7:34But at the same time, that is the single best episode I've seen
- 7:40in twenty twenty three of any television show see so it hasn't been topped yet,
- 7:44you know. I think that was an incredible, incredible episode of television
- 7:48and really showed what can be done with the zombie genre that hasn't been done
- 7:56before as or as much of which is why I felt like the rest of
- 8:01the show is repetitive and things that I've seen many at the time before.
- 8:05And I know a lot of our commentators, because a lot of our commentors
- 8:07and a lot of people we're gonna talk about John Wick a lot this episode,
- 8:11probably a lot of our people, a lot of people these days.
- 8:15Um, I don't know. It's there's a more even for someone who grew
- 8:20up in the eighties and you know, grew up on action movies to the
- 8:22extreme, there's a bit more bloodthirst than the air I will say these days,
- 8:28you know, And that's something I've always had a problem with the John
- 8:31Witt films and with zombie general zombie genre even more so. And I don't
- 8:37know if I've really distressed this on this show, but so it's a perfect
- 8:39time to say it. It's like, the zombie genre in general involves a
- 8:43lot of people being shot or killed in the face, you know, whether,
- 8:46and the fact that there's zombies allows the creators and the audience to have
- 8:52that step away from it being people humans, actual humans being shot and killed
- 8:58in the face, et cetera. But they're still humans and they were humans,
- 9:03and the good ones cope with that. You know, it's very difficult
- 9:07to just kill someone, even if there're a zombie, because that might have
- 9:11been someone you know, someone you know before you might have hoped that,
- 9:15you know, they could be cured of this court acepts in this case or
- 9:16whatever it is. But the bad ones, and my one of my issues
- 9:22with the John Whipped films is when I first saw the first movie, halfway
- 9:26through it, I was like, God, this man shooting a lot of
- 9:28people in the face, and he's normalizing that level of violence. So it
- 9:31makes it easier. Even though I argue to people all the time, actual
- 9:35violence upon another human being is a lot more difficult than Twitter fingers makes it
- 9:41seem. But it does normalize it, and it makes it where we are
- 9:46desensitized to it. And that's always been my problem with zombie John where when
- 9:50it's done badly, it's just a lot of people getting killed by other people.
- 9:54And then you take into account that when people start doing well, all
- 9:58humanity is bad and so there's always raiders and there's always something. It just
- 10:01ends up being people killing each other over and over. Yeah, And honestly,
- 10:07that's the only way this genre can work from a humanistic standpoint, because
- 10:11you have to detach yourself from humanity to allow that type of level of violence.
- 10:16Like for for anyone to allow it in terms of even just viewing to
- 10:20to to to you use the word normalized, would even be able to raternalize
- 10:26and rationalize the story. You have to be you have to detach the person
- 10:30from that, right, So let's make the monstrous obviously, let's make them
- 10:33more like animals, you know, and not cute animals, but you know,
- 10:37animals that are there too, and of course they attack you. That's
- 10:39that helps, right. Um, if what like the zombies they were just
- 10:43zombies but they didn't touch nobody, but they were these monstrous things, but
- 10:46they didn't go after people. What about that concept? Right now? I
- 10:50guess that would be maybe boring, but it's also just like after them anyway.
- 10:56Yeah, no, see there's a story there, you know, and
- 10:58that's what I'm mean, Like, that's what people you know, A lot
- 11:01of our people keep coming in the comments, not a lot some people in
- 11:05the comments say, you know, they keep saying, well, this is
- 11:07part and PARTL of zombie drama. No it's not. It's part and parcel
- 11:11of what you've been shown. But I can name many other zombie genres that
- 11:16don't do this. You know. It's just like these are the more popular
- 11:20ones because violence and things of that nature are an easier way to sell stories.
- 11:24You know, you have good bad, kill the bad. You win
- 11:28the game, dad, You know, even though Last of Us is a
- 11:31very morally complex game, as we've seen, and the Last of Us two
- 11:35gets even more into it, obviously because of choices Joel mates in this episode,
- 11:41but at the same time, the base of it is that violence being
- 11:43against people and the way that, like you said, they allow the people
- 11:46to rationalize it in this case of zombies in john Wick, Oh everyone's an
- 11:50Assassin's say, he's still shooting people of the face. And that's right where
- 12:00I finished that That's why I really appreciate shows such as Barry, which is
- 12:03from a back April sixteenth, because Barry really deals with what it means to
- 12:07be an assassin and what it means to kill people, you know, and
- 12:13the weight that that puts on someone, the true implications of killing the other
- 12:16person, even if they're categorizes bad, good or another assassin, like what
- 12:22does that mean? And one of my favorite films of last year, Baby
- 12:26Assassins, which takes place at the universe field with assassins, but also really
- 12:30you know, I think it is like the movie that John Wick and a
- 12:33lot of other films are really attempting to be, you know, to really
- 12:35show what it means to live in a nihilistic universe. Check out Baby Assassins.
- 12:41It's getting a sequel. It's a Japanese I think Japanese film is a
- 12:43foreign film. Beautiful, incredible movie. Check it. I'm not sure man,
- 12:50I found it. You know something. I think I paid for the
- 12:52stream, like it's one of the ones. I don't know if it's on
- 12:54anything yet. Many it's getting a sequel, so it's sometimes you're someone's going
- 13:00to buy it, getting money from someplace. Yeah, because it's getting a
- 13:03sequel, and it's so fire. The action, it's just incredible. Audi
- 13:05want Spoiledy Moore about the movie fucking so so so. Now that we gave
- 13:11my thoughts overall about this season and what, you know, the comparisons and
- 13:13all that, let's talk about the things we liked about the finale episode of
- 13:18the Last of Us. Joel trying to reach Ellie at the beginning of the
- 13:22episode there broke my heart, Like Joel become the terminator is what I called
- 13:26it, because no, no, no, that's later, No, that's
- 13:28later. That the beginning before this, before this is okay because I you
- 13:33know, I'm gonna talking about things I really like, because um, it
- 13:35was the beginning when Joel was trying to reach Ellie, when Ellie was just
- 13:39sitting there is so much silence her head when she's in her head, you
- 13:43know, and she's just trying to cope with what she's been through. I
- 13:46mean, even when she's been there is verbiage like when she says, you
- 13:50know, everything I've been through, everything I've done, you know this has
- 13:54to mean something. Oh my god, yeah that I agree. Just just
- 13:58to go to the as you say that the mental emotional part about him finding
- 14:03her. Yes, that was that. I'm glad you mentioned that actually because
- 14:07that was one note I did not put. But that that was once again
- 14:09beautiful, like how throughout all the pain of the last episode, how it
- 14:15ended was the whole baby girl stuff and that was heartbreaking. And then to
- 14:18see like now it's like night and it was really like night and day.
- 14:20I felt with Joel like I saw the brightness and the literal light back in
- 14:26his in his aura like as he was like hey, Ellie, like he
- 14:31was like cheery, damn near I was, hey, look I found some
- 14:33Jeff Wayard like he was like he found like he I told you, he
- 14:39the clouds, the fog of war lifted and he found himself or that piece
- 14:45of himself once again and saw it within Ellie. He even said as much
- 14:48to her. He was just what did he say specific? He was just
- 14:50like, um, I didn't have anything to live for. To to that
- 14:54effect, He's like, I didn't have any live for. He didn't say
- 14:56until I found you, he implied it, and she just looked at him
- 15:00and they understood. But and it's towards your whole point of like that that
- 15:05finding Ellie that finding what his driver to wake up right, to wake up
- 15:11from that that fog of just being not of detaching from humanity, throwing kids
- 15:16in the fire, and I thinking twice about it, you know, popping
- 15:20people whatever, you know, like he thought of it, and like,
- 15:22you know, having the he saw a change when he had the fear of
- 15:26losing her. I can't do this. Let me my brother take you,
- 15:30because I you know, I don't lose you. I'm a uh yeah,
- 15:35And like because he knows what Ellie is now going through, Like he doesn't
- 15:39know what happened in that room, but he knows it's enough to have driven
- 15:43her down that path that he's already been on. And so he's doing his
- 15:46damn this as a father figure to keep her from going down that path and
- 15:50failing miserably through most of the episode. And that's what I just It was
- 15:56heartbreaking, but I loved it. It was just once again Pedro and Bella
- 15:58like and then even Bella when she stands up from the back of the truck
- 16:03she's sitting on and this woman has grown over the shooting of this series and
- 16:07then even from knowing it from Game of Thrones, and I'm like, damn,
- 16:11sure he's tall now, like you know she's and it's like she's grown
- 16:15and it's like you know, you're we're going on that same journey that Joel
- 16:18is going on with her, and it's just incredibly well done. Imperfect casting
- 16:22honestly because the timing of seeing you know, Bella grow into herself as Ellie
- 16:27grows into herself, it's fucking incredible, Like yeah, it's it's it's it
- 16:30isn't it's impactful. And also talking about casting, whoever casts her mom that
- 16:38Literally at first I was like, is this a flash right being pregnant,
- 16:44but like yeah, I was like, god, damn, they look like
- 16:45twins. Like that is Ellie her mom spit out Ellie or her casting mom
- 16:51spit her out. I was like, who is that? Come to find
- 16:55her? Right? That is Bella's mom or something? Right, you know
- 16:57right, Well find out later. But like I just wanted to make that
- 17:02mention about the castle that was impeccable. I was just like, god,
- 17:04I thought that was Ellie grown up. But to see the whole flashback that
- 17:08was and that was something else I would say was cool to see just the
- 17:11flashback of Ellie coming into the world, and exactly what and you imply a
- 17:17lot, but exactly what happened to make her immune and that whole process of
- 17:21her being born and right away her mom getting popped by Marline and you know,
- 17:26her mom said, oh, well I cut the chord, right,
- 17:27you know, right before it got bit. I think it happened at the
- 17:30same time. Right, No, that's no, she didn't cut her before
- 17:33and she got bit and then she cut it. Yeah, why Elie is
- 17:36immune is still a mystery. Well right, I'm just saying because and we're
- 17:40gonna just put pseudo science behind it, right, something about being an infant
- 17:44and you know maybe but something about you know, infancy and you know how
- 17:48like they say things like, um, what are the special cells, like
- 17:51the special cells that babies have that can help like heal people and stuff like
- 17:55that. Stem cells, the stem cells. It's something about that. And
- 17:59again I'm not a scientist, and maybe someone who is in the science of
- 18:02the world can tell me. But it's something about that state of being a
- 18:06human where like, you know, how how for example, how mothers could
- 18:11pass on immunities to their child and stuff like that. So I think I
- 18:14had something to do with that, Um, because they were still attached when
- 18:18she got bit, and maybe there was some quarter steps stuff happening. But
- 18:21then as a child, because your body's not fully your brain's not fully developed,
- 18:25and it linked up and to your point, at the end of the
- 18:27day, it's still exactly how she just had the right genes at the right
- 18:30time, I guess, but the but the point is to see generally what
- 18:34happened to be Elly to where she is now was really cool. Um.
- 18:38And then the decision, the heartbreaking decision Marlene had to make, Like Marlene
- 18:41did not want to do that shit. She her mom was like, bro,
- 18:45at least my mom was like, bro kill me. Okay, Allie,
- 18:52okay, you know. And and then Morley was like, bro,
- 18:56I've known you since forever or you told talking about it, but could you
- 19:02do that? Could you do that? Probably not if your first that you
- 19:04grew up with m and he's in a situation they said, but they said,
- 19:10I you know me, I love you, I need this do it,
- 19:14And that one I loved. But I also felt like the writing there
- 19:17goes back to that thing that I have about the show where it's a little
- 19:19bit on the nose when she's like I won't kill you. I just felt
- 19:23like, you don't even need to say that. You walk away and yeah,
- 19:29and then you know, and then she streams at you and then you
- 19:30have to do it. You come back and do it. But when she's
- 19:33like, I won't kill you, that's what it just it took me out
- 19:36and I was like, oh, this doesn't It was needless yeah, needless
- 19:40yeah, And that's this show has fallen on that clutch, I mean crutch
- 19:44a lot. Yeah, and then the other crutch of just you know,
- 19:47ridiculous violence that you know the show falls on as well. But overall,
- 19:51I thought that scene was exceptional. It was just that one lie where I
- 19:53was like, oh man, you don't need to do this. And it's
- 19:56not that one line. It's said over the s season. They've done that
- 20:00so much. It's on a those dialogue where I'm like, oh, here
- 20:03we go again, and once again, I have to say. This goes
- 20:07back to I'm gonna call it the benamine doctrine from the beginning, like the
- 20:11humanistic the humanity stories are more intriguing than the violent parts, and the people
- 20:18kill each other and double across each other, like those are the parts where
- 20:22I look up like, I'm really into it the most that Jelly Jelly,
- 20:27Ellie and Joe Jelly. I love it Ellie and Joel, the Jelly twins,
- 20:32when you know, when they're coping with their personal traumas and coming into
- 20:37their own and coming into understand they love each other like that story powerful,
- 20:41the story of Ellie's mom in that whole situation, my lean powerful building,
- 20:45Frank obviously powerful. Like those things, those areas and scenarios of not just
- 20:52trauma, but the negotiation in life. That's what wiles me up. When
- 20:57I'm like, oh man, this some good shit, some good but what
- 21:03Ramsey say? Final finally some delicious fucking food. That's how I feel about.
- 21:07Find some delicious fucking series, some show, some TV and and the
- 21:12then want to get to the typical stuff, the pattern. Then I'm like,
- 21:15all right, who cares? You know? This is the fifth Rader
- 21:18that came to kill and all right whatever, like and Joe Joel determinator,
- 21:22all right, this is you know right well listen that that that goes something
- 21:27I actually like, we both did loved it, but but but and and
- 21:32it's a caveat there and I'll get to the caveat when we get to things
- 21:34we don't like, but the things I liked, Yes, Joel become a
- 21:37determinator. My god, when I say a one man army, and that
- 21:45was straight up pure and again never played the game, but I imagine that
- 21:48was pure video game. The way he was going, like it man,
- 21:52going through all the levels, picking up different weapons, you know, like
- 21:56like until empty and then switching weapons out, like just doing what you need
- 22:00to do, like the straight terminator approach was was fired me just from a
- 22:06oh that's cool standpoint, like nothing was going to stop it from getting his
- 22:10baby, his baby, and I mean and and it was just like he
- 22:14got again this is game Like he got op level, op level, dodge,
- 22:21op level, targeting op level like look like everything everything, everything went
- 22:30to ninety nine and he was in perpetual limit break the entire time it took
- 22:36him to get to the pediatric surgery center like that was and I believe it.
- 22:41And I was sitting there like this is this is He had on the
- 22:44Godwings behind him and it was just going and I was just like I was
- 22:48like, oh, go go, you know what I'm saying. So I
- 22:49was in it. I was with it all the way. It was so
- 22:52well done, so well shot, you know, Joel, I mean,
- 22:56Pedro's at thing, just the way fear. The cinematography of that scene was
- 23:02beautiful, like how he's doing it. One shot, you know, blow?
- 23:04Do you see the bullet drop? One shot? Blow, bullet drop?
- 23:07And then you know she was the dude through the glass. You know,
- 23:11dude comes around the corner blasting Joe. One shot fear, No hesitational
- 23:15and that's what made it so cold. There was no hesitation, and that's
- 23:19usually what killed what trips up people in situations like that, because they hesitated,
- 23:23they double they they double guessing themselves, double questions. No pop,
- 23:26pop move, move, move, dude, you get the information you need?
- 23:30Pop going. The person put down the gun all slowly, he was
- 23:33like, and Joe was like, okay, pop, I kept moving that.
- 23:36I was dying laughing because you know me, y'all know me, who's
- 23:38been listening to me popping first. I don't want to hear no questions.
- 23:41I don't want to hear no old o, no nah no. You was
- 23:45the ops. You're you gotta go. You was just trying to kill me,
- 23:49fam You're done. The only people who got away was to the two
- 23:52nurses or the desistance, whatever they were. Um, I might have popped
- 23:57in both from the back of the head too. I was actually questioning,
- 24:00why did he slow that down? Ye wasn't because they were women, because
- 24:04I don't see any besides Marlene. I didn't see any other women. He
- 24:07shot, and he shot and they weren't and the women weren't armed. He
- 24:11clearly shot the doctor. And I'm just thinking, hey, because the doctors
- 24:15are threat I was just like, damn, there's not a lot doctors in
- 24:17the world, sir. But I mean, man step up like he thought
- 24:21he was gonna but he was unarmed. But I just thought he picked up
- 24:23the stapel he picked up. Yes, he had a handgun. Hey,
- 24:29fam, I ain't got time for this ship. You picked up a weapon.
- 24:32Oh that's like you coming at me with a butter knife. I know,
- 24:36but I'm gonna shoot you. I'm gonna hit you. And if I
- 24:38let you hit me, you might stab me. I didn't see him come
- 24:41at home. He wait for the stapel. He right, is a butter
- 24:45knife Comparatively, it doesn't matter. Once again, okay, I have two
- 24:49choices in the situation. I can wait for you to get close so I
- 24:52can hit you with my butter my gun and knock you out, in which
- 24:55case you could stab me with the stap on it's over, or I can
- 24:57shoot you. Would it really be over? It's just a that will open
- 25:02your ass up real real quick. Don't don't sleep. Don't sleep. That
- 25:07shit will open your ass up. Yeah, that's a razor, you know.
- 25:11I mean, the man says Jack the ripper. My god, I
- 25:14don't I'm not waiting to find out. Don't pick nigga. What would you
- 25:18think and you heard all those guns shots? What would you think. I'm
- 25:21not gonna let you take her. I mean, I don't give a shit
- 25:25what you got. You said, I'm not gonna word now what I mean.
- 25:29When he walked in the room, I had an anime level moment because
- 25:33I had a death no level moment. As soon as Joe room, it
- 25:36froze for me and I started thinking like light. I was like, well,
- 25:38I gotta kill this doctors because he's a real threat, and not because
- 25:41of the scalpel, but because he has the smarts to know how, and
- 25:45if I don't get rid of him, Like I literally sat there and had
- 25:47a whole conversation our long conversation within five seconds about like an anime about why
- 25:53this guy gotta go. I wasn't even think about the goddamn scalpel, and
- 25:56I even know it was there. Honestly, I had none of that.
- 26:00I had my man said, I'm not gonna black you know that was like
- 26:03that was it? Like, there's no I'm not grown in this situation.
- 26:07Dog? Now what about? So what about the guy who actually slowly put
- 26:10down the dog? You know, I agree, I would down. I
- 26:15agree with the choice, But I'm saying, why, so why did Joe
- 26:18shoot that one? If you claim I thought the doctors didn't, wasn't because
- 26:22he was. So what about this guy? Because dude, even if I
- 26:26get your gun once again, I ain't got time for this shit, right,
- 26:30you know, like you was just trying to shoot me. Okay,
- 26:32So once again, I can either stand there and try and get the gun
- 26:34away from you, or I can turn my back on you and you shoot
- 26:37me, or I let you go. You go around, says, get
- 26:38your hands. But when both of y'all come back and you don't even have
- 26:41to get that far, because if I try and get the gun away from
- 26:42you, that should be a problem. You might get my gun, you
- 26:45know, et cetera. Black, there ain't no time for this ship.
- 26:48I don't know you. I mean, Joe said it at the beginning when
- 26:52he started shooting. I don't have time for this. I don't have time.
- 26:55He did say that, and that, and that is playing his actions
- 26:59through out there the rest of the murder spree Chef's kiss and again, that's
- 27:02what that is, my m O. From the beginning of this world.
- 27:07Yes, for this ship in the stipery, and that's what I mean.
- 27:11So sooner dude said, I don't I'm not gonna black. I ain't got
- 27:15time for you to finish your fucking sentence. Nigga, there's no arguing me.
- 27:18There's no discussion here. You heard the many people I just shot to
- 27:22get to your family, like you heard them dying. What were you did?
- 27:26I don't think they heard in the in the in the oar, but
- 27:29I think, yeah, the gunshots is mad loud, fam you heard it
- 27:32through hell, but it was moving like nothing happened. That's why I don't
- 27:34know what they heard. They was hoping shit wasn't gonna go down. They
- 27:37was hoping that, you know, they could keep doing You know that yeah.
- 27:42No. They was hoping that Droel was one of them, dude,
- 27:44catching them hot ones. You know, I'm like, that's what. Yeah,
- 27:47Like they didn't know, they didn't know exactly what was going down,
- 27:49but the new hot ones was going down. They was already you know,
- 27:52perpetority for surgery. They gotta go through it at that point, like that's
- 27:55true, you know, and they're trying to save the world, you know,
- 27:57my man, Oh my god, that's what that was. You know,
- 28:00that was that white man ego right there. That was that you know,
- 28:02I'm about to save the world. I'm not gonna let you blow.
- 28:06He wasn't saving shit. You couldn't even save your own damn mass And And
- 28:10like I said, this is this is this is god level targeting because it
- 28:12was head shots, it was hedo. It was like, it's no getting
- 28:15back up after that. No, no, no, they showed you that
- 28:18doctor. You know, they were like, look look at the doctor's brains
- 28:21on the ground. Who was thinking about saving the world than brains? You
- 28:23know what he said? He said, do you feel you're in charge?
- 28:30Oh man? Whatever you like? I love the drafts. I love the
- 28:34drafts are my favorite one of my favorite animals and that was just really Remember
- 28:38I talked about one of the beautiful things about these postal apocalyptic stories is when
- 28:44they showed nature reclaiming the world, and that happened slightly during the pandemic when
- 28:48the pandemic first started, where like there were sections of certain cities, you
- 28:52know, more so of the South, the sections where like the animals was
- 28:55coming back and overrunning areas where it was quiet. And I'm like, and
- 28:57also, technically, how quick that shit would happen, Like if everything stopped
- 29:00right now, technically nature will come back fast as fucking just starting over.
- 29:06Yeah, Like it would be stuff covered, you know. And and obviously
- 29:08you know that being they were in Kansas City, so you know they got
- 29:11out of the bazoo or something, and you know they roam in the grounds
- 29:15and you know that populating of the heard heard, heard, heard, Yeah,
- 29:22and it was a whole lake for carnivores. I guess heard this heard
- 29:32of herbivores was you know, it was just beautiful, you know what.
- 29:40That reminds me of this And this is sidetrack, but I'll get back on
- 29:44track of the Jamie Fox Festival where he says he went to Africa he talks
- 29:48about the giraffe and how and it was so ridiculous about how he wanted to
- 29:52make love to the giraffecause it was so beautiful and he talked about the but
- 29:56anyway, I just watch it. But anyway, back on track, the
- 30:03part of Ellie being so enamored and and and just an awe like too,
- 30:10and I because I saw I'm gonna be the first time I really like be
- 30:11up into a drafts face that in real life. It's like, oh my
- 30:15god, you know, and I'm feeding in and this is God's creature in
- 30:18my face and oh my god, we're in paradise but in hell. Like
- 30:22that whole culmination, like that's a lot. And I just thought that was
- 30:26a sweet moment and a sweet moment between the two, like it was in
- 30:30fucking great adventure in a safari feeding the animal right, Like it was cute,
- 30:34it was nice, it was beautiful, and it was like, that's
- 30:37that moment that Ellie starts to recover from the charma that she's been through,
- 30:41like you know, begins that long journey back from where she's been through.
- 30:45And Joel sees that and he's just overjoyed to know that there's something that can
- 30:51bring his you know, daughter back to him. And then you know,
- 30:55right after that, we see him being like, you know, we'll cheer
- 30:56me up in some you know, the old limericks again or you know puns,
- 31:00yeah, push puns, yeah, the bad puns. And then they're
- 31:04back on track. You know, because Ellie's a child, that she will
- 31:07recover from what she's been through, like right, And that's not to say
- 31:11that, you know, people are like, oh, kids will recover.
- 31:12No, just the kids have more time on the earth to recover from what
- 31:15they've been through. Not the kids are any more resilient, you know,
- 31:18they just have more time. Yeah, they have more time, you know,
- 31:21and because things are always new to them, so it's like every you
- 31:25know, even if they go through something traumatic, they can go through something
- 31:27else. It's so bright, you know, seeing the draft that to them
- 31:30it's like, oh what the fuck, you know, like you know,
- 31:33so like, yeah, they don't have those experiences. Yeah you could get
- 31:37yourself killed. Like Ellie just went through some ship where burning off is not
- 31:41the right thing to do, obviously, and she knows that, but you
- 31:45know, she's a child, and it's like that wonder is still there.
- 31:48So that was you know, that was amazing and judge you by the internet,
- 31:52more people need a little more wonder in their lives folds because wow,
- 31:56you know, but that's a whole story. No, I know you wanted
- 32:00to go into something else you liked right there. Yeah, yeah, but
- 32:02but you could continue if you want to know that. Okay, that that
- 32:07what you said actually sequentially led into the next part because you mentioned, you
- 32:10know, they're saying the pluns and stuff, and I always fought characters were
- 32:15doing this, but I did it as a as an audience false sense of
- 32:20security. Oh, I mean, I forgot where the fuck they were for
- 32:24a second, and that was enough, because they forgot where the fuck they
- 32:29were. And Joel is his happy, go lucky Joel. He ain't paying
- 32:31attention like you know, he's not on ten like he should be. And
- 32:37this goes back to what I said about that I liked about the series overall,
- 32:39keeping me in the state of fear, the ways that fireflies crept up
- 32:43on them like I was focused on them, and the cinematography again, the
- 32:46way you saw you didn't see the people. You saw the blur them,
- 32:50so they kind of blended in with the background at first, but then you
- 32:52saw the humanoid figures. I said, wait, there's somebody behind And when
- 32:58they threw that goddamn flat, first of all thought it was a grenade,
- 33:00and I said, these niggas, this is dead. Then I said,
- 33:02well I'm going to shake, you know, I play games. I'm like,
- 33:05wait, that's a flashman. And then for them to be down,
- 33:07I said, oh no, and I knew it was I knew it was
- 33:09the Fireflights at that point, but I was just like for them to get
- 33:14crept on, like, I was like literally all that. I don't know
- 33:16if you ever been in that situation where you get so scared, like the
- 33:19blood rushes out of like your extremities and you just get you feel like like
- 33:23you're sinking almost. I got that feeling, and I was just like,
- 33:28this is how the niggas go out, Like we just saw some goddamn giraffes
- 33:30and this is how these niggas go Like. I was just like, how
- 33:35are they gonna do this to me? And then they didn't, but to
- 33:37me just again, good writing, good good direction. I really like that.
- 33:44That yeah, no, that part, yeah, exceptional direction. You
- 33:49know how they get taken out all that I didn't. I didn't had that
- 33:52fear because you know, I was like, oh no, it's a flashman,
- 33:53ain't gonna you know, and I know at this point they're not gonna
- 33:55blow these too. It was a grenade like do you overhear Saint Limericks,
- 34:00she saying, and a fucking I U D U d I E ed pops
- 34:04out of nowhere, like come on, man, Like I just it was
- 34:07too much because I was so happy because and that's the thing when I say
- 34:10I did what the character do, which is going at false as the security.
- 34:14I'm like Joe, man, he's coming he's you know, he ain't
- 34:16down bad no more. He's coming up. He's he's you know, he's
- 34:19getting back to what it means to love and care. And there goes a
- 34:22flashman and there. But I just knew that they were, you know all
- 34:27right. I was like, oh, yeah, they're gonna be blown apart.
- 34:29I don't know what. No. I thought that. I was like,
- 34:30god, damn, that is how it happens, my god. Um.
- 34:36And then lastly, I think my things I liked. I think overall
- 34:39I liked Marlin. I think I liked that she similar to um Sylvie and
- 34:45Loki that regardless of what people said or thought or disagree with the audience or
- 34:51otherwise, She's just followed through with what she came there to do. I
- 34:55didn't want to kill my friend. My friend said, Okay, I had
- 34:58to do it. My friend said, per saved, but this is for
- 35:00the betterment of I gotta do it. Like right, wrong, you agree,
- 35:06disagree with her, She just stayed true to her mission and I respect
- 35:10that. So I think overall, like Marline, like you something. That
- 35:14dialogue was kind of hackey, but I still I still like I like Marline
- 35:19a lot, and I think that was That's was the choice that I know
- 35:22that a lot of people had a conflict about. And Bella said that this
- 35:27episode is to be quite controversial because it was quite controversial in the game,
- 35:31right when you're faced with that choice, and I'm not sure how it goes
- 35:36in the game, like if you can actually make the choice, you know,
- 35:38kill Ellie or let Ellie live. But Ellie survives either way obviously into
- 35:44the second game, and that becomes a big source of conflict with you,
- 35:47I mean, with Joel and Ellie in the second game, because you get
- 35:52to play with both throughout you know, both of the games, so it's
- 35:53not like you're either character, you're just their story. So they have a
- 35:58huge source of conflict. And even at the end of the episode when Ellie
- 36:00takes that, you know, okay, it's we know that that's not the
- 36:04end of that, and we know that Ellie knows that more than what Joel
- 36:07was telling her went down there, and we know that's trying to come back
- 36:10up at some point and cause more conflict for these two characters. So I
- 36:15thought that was cool. I like that, you know. I thought the
- 36:17ending was kind of I guess this is where I think that's pretty much it.
- 36:22Yeah, so things that we didn't like. I thought the ending was
- 36:27one of those things. I actually had to go run to the wiki because
- 36:30I had not done this yet because I didn't want to spoil myself, but
- 36:31I wanted to know this this is how the game ends, and the game
- 36:35ends pretty much it's that same way, but then approaching the town and Ellie
- 36:38questioning him, I mean questioning Joel, and Joel saying nah, you know,
- 36:44it's basically the Godfather ending of the first job Father, which is a
- 36:46bit of a spoiler for fifty sixty year old movie. I can't remember that
- 36:51at this point, but it it the end of The First job Father,
- 36:52which was recreated in Luke Cage season two. At the end of The First
- 36:57job Father, Michael Corleone had become the Godfather after his father died and after
- 37:02his father did not want him to be that. He was trying to keep
- 37:06Michael out of the business, but his other two sons were not capable of
- 37:09taking it on, and Michael was the vicious, ill old dude. So
- 37:15he becomes the godfather and his wife comes in. You know, he's just
- 37:20ordered the murder of like ten people. His wife comes in and asked him
- 37:23about the business, and he tells her this one time, just one time,
- 37:28I'll let you ask me about my business. Michael, Michael, did
- 37:30you ever kill anyone? Michael, No, since her asked, since her
- 37:37asked out of the room. And then the trail of other mile bosses comes
- 37:42in the room to kiss his finger and he closes the door on her.
- 37:45So that was basically Joel right there. You know, Joel's like that I
- 37:49killed nah nah shortly. You know you know what happened, you know,
- 37:51I just you know, do you know things happened. How to get you
- 37:54up out of that? Yeah, like and and let me because no one
- 37:59has to explain them hannocks of this to me and why I was written his
- 38:01winning and as you said, that's how the game and you don't explain that
- 38:05game ends. You don't have to explain that to me. I still the
- 38:07ending bother me because of this abruptness. Yeah, and that's my design.
- 38:14Sure, I fucking hate abrupt type endings like that because and I get it,
- 38:21there's and I don't know if that was playing at the time when this
- 38:22game first came out, and maybe it was, but like, I get
- 38:24it, you're just leading up to the next story. But I hate that.
- 38:28I hate the because it wasn't a This goes back to why I told
- 38:32you about how as structurally sound in this series is I never felt good half
- 38:38the time. It's one of those I'm talking about the series. Okay,
- 38:44well I do I mean that that led to the abrupt ending of what I'm
- 38:46talking about. Generally speaking from a mechanical standpoint, I don't have a problem
- 38:51with this series, but it's just stuff like that where I'm just like,
- 38:53it doesn't make me feel good. There's just so many things. Like when
- 38:57I said before about it's not a bad episode, I just didn't feel good
- 39:00at it. It's another thing where I'm like I just don't feel that.
- 39:01I'm like what, Like I was like, where's the rest of the episode?
- 39:05Like it just felt short even And I don't know because I was just
- 39:08it was just so much dramatics with him going through the building and you know,
- 39:14doing the taking. But I just I was like, how right?
- 39:17And and and I'm gonna mention this before. I'm just gonna mention this later
- 39:22I mentioned now like the lying, like the level of lying that's happening,
- 39:27or misdirection or or changing of reality sense like that, you know that that
- 39:36bothered me deeply. And and and it's clear Ellie knows as Nigga as lying,
- 39:40like at least to me, I see the energies and the power And
- 39:44because they're so both great actors, the type of information and communication that they
- 39:47can infer with just their eyes and their tonality and their face, you know,
- 39:52just a twitch or whatever. It is, like they don't have to
- 39:54saything, but the type the way that they can convey what they're feeling without
- 39:59speaking, it is clear as day in my view, Ellie was like,
- 40:02God, damn, you lie to my face. You even swore on it
- 40:05and still holding it. Damn Right, So it like puts her in a
- 40:08different like she was like to go from trauma to not really be a snap
- 40:14out of the trauma, but finding some light in that trauma, to then
- 40:16pure trauma again, like how do you come back from that? You can?
- 40:22And the one person in this world that you said, I will follow
- 40:25you to the ends of the earth, that's what I was just like,
- 40:29oh, gut punch again because I'm just like what But then yes, maybe
- 40:34to your further to your other point about structurally that that's why I fell a
- 40:37brough. I'm just like, where's the rest of the story? And all
- 40:39right, one you cannot plan for a sequel, you know. That's that's
- 40:45people do cliffhand It's not fair, but people do that a lot. Well.
- 40:47But if you have a cliffhanger, you know you're getting a sequel,
- 40:51right, Some people have very ego big eagles. That's more of a recent
- 40:58thing because back in the dayear and I could do with a cliffhanger, you
- 41:00know, like ending, you wouldn't have a cliffhanger ending on your movie,
- 41:02like, okay, let's say back to the future, right, it doesn't
- 41:05have a cliff anger, and then movie ends, and then it has the
- 41:07tease of more adventures. Correct, But that doesn't have to ever go anywhere
- 41:13or could go a million different ways. It's a closed yeah, two could
- 41:16have been a million different movies. You know, it doesn't you know,
- 41:20because they didn't know at that time. They're just like, well, let's
- 41:22just tease something, you know, just in case this is a hit.
- 41:24But if it's not, no one thinks about it. But this is you
- 41:28know, Last of Us was not designed where it's like they knew they were
- 41:30gonna get a sequel, or that there would even be a sequel. It
- 41:34was going to be this was the story back to john Wick, which was
- 41:37the story, right, And so it's like you're saying, they built this
- 41:40game, this is the first part purposefully like this, this is how it
- 41:45ends, and this is what they thought that their story was done. And
- 41:49once again, because it's a game, and people have said this in the
- 41:51comments, they feel like this series, this season could have even been two
- 41:54seasons. I'm I'm not sure, Yeah, I don't know. There might
- 42:00have been more in the game. You could have fleshed out more and maybe
- 42:01then we could have gotten an episode with the Black Kids, you know,
- 42:05an episode here and there. But at the same time that might have been
- 42:07just it might have been dragging. It might have been dragging it. But
- 42:10I think because when you're playing a game, you're getting a different experience,
- 42:14and the emotional climax of that fireflight scene scene being in it as Joel killing
- 42:20all these people, saving Ellie and getting out of there with Ellie is trying
- 42:23to hit different And so when it comes to this last moment and he lies
- 42:28to her, you might it might really hit you differently playing a game versus
- 42:32seeing it where structurally I felt it just felt a little rushed. It felt
- 42:36like, yeah, I didn't like that feeling at all. Bro. And
- 42:40also people got to remember when you're gaming, like not only did a different
- 42:45experience just just physical the different physical experience is different visceral experiences. You literally
- 42:50can pose it. You can and almost usually any time or there's checkpoints you
- 42:54could pick up where you left off and stuff like that, like you can
- 42:58take yourself out for a minute, take like that's the other thing like that
- 43:02through that memo like that, it's sometimes to have to be And when I
- 43:08said and I don't mean in a negative way, but repetitive, it like
- 43:10the repetition has to happen because that's the nature of That's like one of the
- 43:15basic structures of a lot of gaming is repeating because you can't get there right
- 43:20now, and then so when you get there, the reward is even greater
- 43:22because you're sitting there like, yeah, I finally killed all them dudes and
- 43:27I got I grinded, I cleared that board or whatever, I got Ellie
- 43:30out of there, and now I get to hear this moment. Yeah,
- 43:34game over, you know. But for us it was like, well,
- 43:37Joel murders through this level and grabs helly like it's nothing, and then it's
- 43:40like game over and you're like, okay, I mean, man had wings,
- 43:46he had hicarous man's man's foot on that motherfucker. Uh what is it?
- 43:52Grandf auto When all the guns and armor and should just drop from the
- 43:54spout and he just chose that every one And it was like I ain't got
- 43:58mold, you know, he could see walls. Yeah, I was just
- 44:01like what, like, I know he was, he was good, but
- 44:04god damn, like where did this come from? And then once again goes
- 44:07back to that writing where you know, she's like, you made it across
- 44:09the country, I lost everybody. You're gonna kill all my people, you
- 44:14know dialogue, it's like, we get it. He's a bad assholet But
- 44:21and then that I know that was something we liked and we disliked. Was
- 44:23Joel murdering through everybody? Yeah I had it on both times. Yeah,
- 44:28me too. I didn't write a both time because there is there and also
- 44:32just the and and more so for me, the the selfishness of it.
- 44:37Right, that's really so when she told him, and first of all,
- 44:42I understand why. Okay, ye understand, like we got there. We
- 44:45did this under the guise of doing something good for Hi, Mandy. Marlene
- 44:50never told me that we're gonna have to essentially kill Ellie to make this work.
- 44:53You never told me this. You lied. You didn't you lied biomission
- 44:57right, You didn't tell Ellie what you was doing. You just took her
- 44:59in for like you know what I mean, like all this stuff's happening,
- 45:02that's not what the what the assumed bargain was right there, assumed bargain.
- 45:07And you know you made assumptions and what do they say, you make an
- 45:10ass out of you and me? Whatever made the assumption that, oh,
- 45:14it's gonna do some blood SHITU was you know she's gonna be alive? Nothing
- 45:15like, oh, Court of Steps growing the goddamn brain and to do anything
- 45:21with it you gotta basically go on the brain. You will kill the person.
- 45:22There's no coming back that. So you're not thinking about that. You're
- 45:24like, oh, there's some new age shit that they could do. Okay,
- 45:28fine, No one said to the contrary, right, Marlene didn't say
- 45:32that, like and no, Marlene knew from jump, so I understood why
- 45:36Joe flipped out, Like, bro, you lied me. However, when
- 45:38Marlene explained what was going on, Joe made the decision of I don't give
- 45:43a fuck. That's my daughter, right, And even prior to that,
- 45:47remember prior to that in the same episode when Joe was like when after they
- 45:52was looking at drafts and ship, Joe was like, hey, yo,
- 45:54let's just go back home to Jackson Hole and rightfully, and I get it.
- 45:58Ellie was like this would have been for nothing, Like we got all
- 46:01the way here for nothing. All the things I've done, all the things
- 46:04I've been through the people we've killed, Like, she's still human, right,
- 46:07Like I can't just let that be for nothing at the end of the
- 46:10day, right fine, And she said that Joe Joe had that in his
- 46:15head and even after listening to Marline, it was just the way of being
- 46:21lied to. And I want what I want, which is my daughter,
- 46:23Ellie, my new daughter Ellie. That was enough for him to say,
- 46:27fuck y'all, I'm humanity. So that's what I mean for me when I
- 46:30was just like, I also, as much as I loved it, I
- 46:31also didn't like it because like, you made a unit of decision based on
- 46:36your own selfishness and that you could say it is love, but it was
- 46:38selfish love. And that's the thing that comes in the game, is like,
- 46:42that's the difficult decision that everyone's faced with, and it's one of those
- 46:46things that most people are gonna choose to save Ellie. You know, they're
- 46:49could be like, no, that's my daughter, that's my favorite because I
- 46:52don't fool him. But at the same time, it's like, you just
- 46:55shot ten people at least, right, So those ten people's lives are worth
- 46:59less than this one, yes, because you just murdered them. Yes.
- 47:02Uh, Kathleen asked the same question to Henry. It was your brother's life
- 47:07worth more than my than my brother that was the leader of whatever resistance,
- 47:09and I had yelled out yes, bitch. So you know, see I
- 47:14don't necessarily agree, and that's fine, and that's but that's a conundrum,
- 47:17right Yeah. It's like you don't agree in certain instances, you don't agree
- 47:22in certain contexts, you don't agree in certain scenarios. Whereas an expression just
- 47:24like I don't agree with you, you know what I'm saying, Like it
- 47:27always depends up scenario and how closely you know that character or person, how
- 47:30much they affect you, how much they're consequential to you. Right, so,
- 47:36and and that's the beauty of this show is that it makes you interrogate
- 47:39that and that, and that's when when when nah it happens, it works.
- 47:43Well. But yeah, so what happens next? Been on me?
- 47:49We get we know season two of Coming Down, that like episode two or
- 47:52three day announ season two was coming Um we already know that was part two
- 47:55of the game. Um, like you know, and and it's less of
- 47:59predictions with more questions like what's Joe wrong in lying to Ellie. I want
- 48:02to ask you that when when when he sat there and first of all the
- 48:06lies sounded like a lie, he was like, oh, yeah, the
- 48:07raiders came up. I said that the cat. That's big cat, bro
- 48:13cat. Because this is they crept up on you. The fireflight kept up
- 48:17in you. And and notice remember it was always Princess is another castle every
- 48:22turn. This time it was severe firefly central. Fine, really it was
- 48:29cat and it felt capped. And he was like yeah. And if then
- 48:32Nigga said, oh, I would have been like you lying, you know
- 48:35what I mean. So but but to my question to you, what's Joel
- 48:39wrong in lying to Ellie? I mean, at that point, what else
- 48:44you gonna do? In your opinion? Though, oh yeah, I'd sell
- 48:49Yeah, I would have told them the truth. Look, there's gonna kill
- 48:51you. No, but he knows he can't tell the truth because Ellie is
- 48:53willing to sacrifice herself for the good of humanity. So what so what if
- 48:59he told her youth was said they were going to kill you, YadA,
- 49:00yamen, and I killed them all. You're a monster, Joel, and
- 49:05she would have dipped out on him. She's gonna another doctor. The doctor
- 49:08could do this, but there's obviously more because you know, Marlene said that,
- 49:12you know, there's you know, there's others. You know, he's
- 49:14the only doctor. Yeah, did she really say that? Yeah, she
- 49:16said, even after if you've done, there's still a way out of this
- 49:19droll. Well, she said, it's the way out. She didn't say
- 49:21there were others. I thought he made that up. No, No,
- 49:23no, he was saying he made dozens of others. He made that,
- 49:27he said, he said, he said there's dozens of other infected that were
- 49:31immune. Yeah, and I said, who said that? That part?
- 49:35That parts a lot. But there are obviously other doctors, and there's people
- 49:38who are doing research and trying to figure this out. And Marley probably have
- 49:42a whole circuit of people, probably one fucking doctor, especially as dumb as
- 49:45that dude was, you know what I mean. So there's gotta be others.
- 49:47Yeah, yeah, so no, but that's the problem. Like Joel
- 49:52wants what he wants, his selfish love, like everything is about replacing what
- 49:58he lost, and then he's gotta started getting creepy when he was talking to
- 50:01Ellie, and even Ellie felt it when he was talking to when he was
- 50:05walking back to Jackson Hoteling Ellie about how his daughter used to like Sarah right,
- 50:09how she used to love hiking and da da da dad, and I'm
- 50:12just like and then he tried to clean up and said, well, I'm
- 50:15not comparing her to you, but I'm like, it's kind of too late,
- 50:17and you're already making this conversation with me. I don't want to hear
- 50:21this. Yeah, it was weird. I think I know that in the
- 50:24game this droes out, but I think by the second season a lot of
- 50:28people are gonna hate Joel. You know, he's already starting. Yeah,
- 50:30I think it's already starting, and it's just didn't get worse. But once
- 50:34again, it's that thing like who would make that choice? A lot of
- 50:38people, you know, And this droves back to what I was sorry about
- 50:42earlier. On the Internet, you know, people say a lot of things
- 50:44on the Internet that they would not do in real life. And a lot
- 50:45of people were raised by the Internet, so they say these things because this
- 50:50is their only outlet and they can't say a lot of things in real life,
- 50:52so they'll feel like, yeah, I would kill Elipe. So the
- 50:55complications of the truth are worse than the implications of a lie the complication because
- 51:04if you said he told her the truth, literally, verbatable, that happened
- 51:07the complication. Yeah, but then there are future implications. Clearly, there's
- 51:12current implications already starting to form about this lie. Yes, And I'm just
- 51:16like, is this at the end of the day, are you gonna lose
- 51:19her worse or just the same as if you told her the truth? Was
- 51:23there was there a win win? No, it's a lose lose situation rather,
- 51:29but yeah, no, there's no win. There's it's lose. You're
- 51:31gonna lose in this situation. You're gonna lose Ellie. Eventually, the minute
- 51:35he decided to go terminated, it was like, all right, you made
- 51:36a decision. Yeah, pretty much. I mean, you know, because
- 51:38if you don't go terminator, you lose Ellie. So his his you know,
- 51:43either way, he's don't lose Ellie. And that's the thing. This
- 51:45is a no matter what. This is a story about fatherhood. You know,
- 51:47you're going to lose your daughter one way or the other. Your daughter
- 51:51is going to grow up, you know, And that's what Joel can't accept.
- 51:54Joel lost his daughter and he can't accept that. He's still not accepting
- 52:00that either way, he was going to lose Sarah, and you see that.
- 52:05Sorry John keeps coming up. But that was like my whole thing about
- 52:07John Wick, Right, His wife buys him this dog because she's dying and
- 52:12she wants John. She knows what a monster John is and she doesn't want
- 52:15him to go back to that light. His wife dies, the dog gets
- 52:19killed, and John's like, well, maybe I should honor her wishes or
- 52:22fuck it. You know, it's that selfishness of like, fuck it,
- 52:27let me go back to, you know, my monster hood, because I
- 52:30could just go get another damn dog. He went back to what he knew.
- 52:32And also, I mean, I'm listening. I don't want to get
- 52:36too much of the job like again, but we're gonna get into that more
- 52:38anyway. Did you did you notice the mirror of when Joel had Ellie in
- 52:45his arms and he was like taking her out, you know, take trying
- 52:49to get her out of the hospital and all this other stuff to when that
- 52:52when he had Sarah, when Sarah messed up her foot, her leg or
- 52:54whatever, and he was carrying her everywhere time like that exact mirror image.
- 52:59You know what I'm saying, and for him to essentially be in that same
- 53:02place and he felt like how he felt when he was in the field with
- 53:06that army guy where he said, remember he gets to the end the beginning,
- 53:07he was like, I did nothing. I should have did something.
- 53:09I froze. He turned for him to go under the legs of Ellie and
- 53:14shoot Marlin Like he's like, I'm redeeming myself of what I felt I should
- 53:17have done with my daughter. Yep, definitely, And once again it's that
- 53:22thing like you're going to lose these things, you know, and these things
- 53:28aren't meant to replace the things that you've already lost. But the type of
- 53:31loss is different. Man. It's definitely you said, your daughter growing up,
- 53:36okay, finding a life, marrying someone having Okay, that's the different
- 53:39type. And it's not true loss. It's it's a change, as a
- 53:44metamorphosis. You don't lose them. This is a different loss. This is
- 53:47life, you know, like you don't get to choose, You don't choose
- 53:52the time you have with things. You know, you get to appreciate the
- 53:57time you have with them. Then and once again, that goes back to
- 53:59the I went the dog gonna die, you know, but it's not about
- 54:01the bad dog favor. It's about like, you know, yes, the
- 54:05dog was taken from you, thought of why the symbolism, but eventually it's
- 54:09trying to be taken from you one way or the other. You know,
- 54:13like, no matter what, you could be like, well, I got
- 54:15to live this time at the amount of time don't matter because when it's taken
- 54:19from you, that grief gonna be the same. So it's like you gonna
- 54:22have to deal with it, you know, it don't matter you get one
- 54:24hundred, a thousand years or someone when when a thousand and one comes,
- 54:29you're gonna have to deal with it. And that's what Joel has not ever
- 54:31dealt with, you know. He's just like, well, here's my new
- 54:36daughter. You know. When we were going through this series and every you
- 54:39and everyone was kept talking about how tragic this shit is. Like most of
- 54:44the season, I thought there was gonna be a situation where Ellie was gonna
- 54:46kill Joel because like, yeah, because people were talking about betrayal, this
- 54:49isn't that, and I'm like, okay, donna kill. This episode is
- 54:52when I felt it the most on their way back to Jackson Hole because and
- 54:54I don't know if I was imagining shit once again? Was that the gallows
- 54:58they were building? Apparently they were, But if I was mad the shit
- 55:00or I really saw this, but I felt like as she was walking behind
- 55:04she was eyeing the gun on his hit. Yes, like should I take
- 55:07this nigga out now because I don't lie to me or whatever? Like I
- 55:10felt she was and she was behind him the whole time, and I was
- 55:14nervous once more. I was just like, is she gonna yeah? Because
- 55:17that's what, like I just said, that's life, you know. It's
- 55:20not about you know, how long you have or whatever. It's the The
- 55:23tragedy of life is what happens to these relationships as you go through them,
- 55:28you know. And that's the tragedy of the show. And that's what I
- 55:30knew. What was the most tragic part is about the show. It wasn't
- 55:32about that either of them we're gonna die. It was the fact that their
- 55:36relationship is doing to get broken. Because this is the story of life.
- 55:40And most relationships, you know, they end like you either lose someone or
- 55:45you lose them, but either way, you lose them. You know.
- 55:46That's just how it is. That's life. And that's the tragedy of it.
- 55:51And that's why it's about appreciating every moment you have with these things and
- 55:55not being like, well now I need a replacement or I gotta go back
- 56:00to the way I was, because you know, this is all I had
- 56:01of that person. Like, that's not what it's about. Fam you know,
- 56:06you move forward, and you move forward and grow what endure and survive,
- 56:10you know, and that's what Joel is not the end game or the
- 56:15inshow comic book, and that's what Joel is not doing. Joel is enduring,
- 56:20but he's not surviving. You know, he's enduring what he's been through,
- 56:23but he's not surviving and growing and learning from what has happened and being
- 56:28like, well, yes I had a daughter. Yes she died you know
- 56:30early, but she could have died of cancer at two years old. She
- 56:34could have been hit by you know anything. I had all that time with
- 56:37my daughter. I thank God for that time, you know, because life
- 56:42is tragic. There's only one way out of this ship. So I imagine
- 56:46season two again, never pay a game. It's gonna be a time jump
- 56:49of some sort. She's gonna tell he's gonna be a little older, if
- 56:52not a little at least in her twenties or something like that, Like,
- 56:54um, I just because what she's fifteen fourteen fifteen? Now, I'm just
- 57:00like, what how do you move forward with this person who, like,
- 57:05you know, it's just like you just kind of have this in your back
- 57:06ahead at all times. And it's like, at what point is going to
- 57:08be the right time? Because you talk about he's not gonna survive, not
- 57:12with Ellie. No, Ellie's not gonna let that stand. You will not
- 57:15allow it for for too long. It's like she's gonna wait for the perfect
- 57:19moment. And when I say perfect moment, not like you're premeditating, but
- 57:22I'm just like, what is it gonna be? It's like gonna be something
- 57:24a situational where it's like you gotta get a decision. She's just gonna pop
- 57:28Joe. Like that's why I'm trying to understand. No, I don't need
- 57:30she gonna pop him. It's just gonna be a natural thing where she's gonna
- 57:32move away from him, just like a father daughter relationship. Okay, Like
- 57:37Ellie's trying to grow into a woman, meet other people. Things are gonna
- 57:40happen and she's trying to move away from him. And just like any relationship,
- 57:44we all have people in our lives right where they do some dirty ship
- 57:46but that's been your homie forever or whatever, and you're like all right,
- 57:49but then eventually you're like, ah, man, they just keep sucking up.
- 57:52You know, I got to move on, and like they're enduring,
- 57:54but they ain't surviving, right, you know what I mean? So I
- 57:58gotta I'm surviving over here. I gotta keep moving, fam. I can't
- 58:00be that same person he wanted me to be for twenty years ago. Yeah,
- 58:04and that's what Ellie is like, I can't be Sarah fam. And
- 58:08not only that, Sarah wouldn't be Sarah's. See, that's what Joel is
- 58:15stuck on. Joel is stuck on having something that was never going to be
- 58:19there, and she's frozen and he has her frozen in time of How that
- 58:22was that perfect image? Oh, Sarah loved this, Sarah was this?
- 58:24Oh she had the best beautiful No. No, Sarah was growing into her
- 58:28own. Sarah was about to, you know, be like, you know,
- 58:30my dad ain't shit. He probably a Trump volder, you know what
- 58:32I mean, Like stupid buck, I keep saying that about Joel and Tommy,
- 58:37you know, like both of them are probably a lot more questionable people
- 58:40than we want to making them out to be, you know, because yeah,
- 58:43because we're following Ellie and we love Ellie so much, and he's saving
- 58:45her. But if the world hadn't gone to shit, I don't know if
- 58:49my politics or anything would have agreed with Joel's. And see what a violent
- 58:52sociopath this man is. I seriously doubt it, you know. So that's
- 58:59the thing. Goal was stuck on stupid, not sucking stupid, but he
- 59:01stuck on the time that you know, it's slightly stupid, but he's stuck
- 59:05on something, and a lot of people get like that. You know,
- 59:07it's like, no, this was taken from me at this time. You
- 59:09know, grief it's hard to deal with, you know, but like having
- 59:15lost people in my life. One of the things where I've had to deal
- 59:19with that learning to deal with it is that I've learned eventually it was the
- 59:22way to happen, you know, that's it. And I have to think
- 59:28about all that time I had with them and how certain people don't get any
- 59:32of that time, you know. So that's what I have to think about.
- 59:36And that's what a lot of people don't understanding. Back to John Wit,
- 59:38back to this pot, this vengeance ain't the answer, you know,
- 59:42Joe goes on a quest for vengeance. You know, it's like I'm gonna
- 59:45kill everybody because that my daughter was taken from me, you know, and
- 59:50it's like like she was gonna be taken from you eventually. M Yeah,
- 59:57damn. I just can't imagine harboring that for years later. I mean,
- 1:00:01shit, family, you know, the grief I have is gonna be with
- 1:00:05me for the toime, learning to deal with it, but more so Ellie
- 1:00:08dealing with knowing the lie. That's that grief, the both face. That
- 1:00:13is grief. You're right that because I'm wonder if something dies in you,
- 1:00:15like that trust dies in you. Yeah, that's that grief over that relationship.
- 1:00:20It's all the same relationships. That's all life is about relationships, you
- 1:00:23know what I mean. And we lose these relationships one way or the other.
- 1:00:28That's how it is, you know. And it's like either somebody betrays
- 1:00:30you and your trust is drawn. You know, that relationships gone or they're
- 1:00:34gone from this physical plane and that relationship is drawne It ends one way to
- 1:00:39other and that's life, you know, and you have to learn to deal
- 1:00:42with that. And a lot of people don't deal with that very well.
- 1:00:45Right, Well, this season ended one way or another. I'm learning to
- 1:00:50deal with it. That is the end of season one of the last of
- 1:00:54us. I'm not sure if you had anything else to add on, but
- 1:00:58um, um no, you know, we talked about john Wick a lot,
