- 0:00Thirteen ten Wiba Madison in the morning, Sean Praible with you, joined right
- 0:04now by Phil Anderson, candidate for US Senate. Phil, how you doing
- 0:08this morning? Great, Sean, thanks for having me on. I appreciate
- 0:11it. Thanks thanks for talking with us this morning. It's been a number
- 0:14of years since I've had a chance to chat with you. And let's let's
- 0:18get right kind of down to it. Of course, you are running for
- 0:21US Senate currently the seat held by Tammy Baldwin. Eric Hovedy is the Republican
- 0:25candidate. You're a libertarian. Let's talk about why you're running and how you're
- 0:30different from the other two kind of establishment candidates. So to say, well,
- 0:35I'm running because basically our government is broken, and it has been for
- 0:38a number of years. The big moneyed interest the lobbyists run the government.
- 0:42They give a ton of money to candidates, to the RNC, to the
- 0:45DNC. Those same lobbyists right the bills. The people in charge of those
- 0:48parties make sure that they're representatives, they're voting accordingly, or they get primaried,
- 0:52and we end up with a government that's not representative, that doesn't represent
- 0:56us, that doesn't work, and is basically being run by not the city
- 1:00as it was intended, and not even by the representatives. Really, It's
- 1:03being run by lobbies, by industries, by big pharma, by military industrial
- 1:07complex, and I basically just had it. So, as you mentioned,
- 1:11I am a libertarian, but I'm running this time as an independent under the
- 1:15slogan disrupt the corruption. And the reason that I'm doing that is because this
- 1:19is a coalition campaign. There are a lot of people who are disaffected Republicans,
- 1:23disaffected Democrats, disaffected MAGA folks, peace activists, people that were fighting
- 1:30for Julian Astons to be free. All those different people realize that the problem
- 1:34is the same for all of us, and that is that we do not
- 1:37have control over our own government anymore. Phil, it feels like a lot
- 1:41of folks are talking this morning with Phil Anderson, candidate for US Senator.
- 1:44It feels like, you know, the things that you talk about is if
- 1:47you get a chance, you know, and obviously you're doing a day in
- 1:49and day out, But people that talk politics with friends and family, you're
- 1:53kind of echoing what I hear and I think though, and what I've never
- 1:56been able to understand is a lot of folks talk about you know, I
- 2:00want I want somebody independent, I want somebody that's representing me, you know,
- 2:02I want to do away with the corruption. But when it comes to
- 2:06election day, they kind of check those same two boxes. How is this
- 2:09any different? And how do you work to kind of land that message and
- 2:15actually have a real actual shot at winning this Well, the challenge obviously is
- 2:21money being noticed by the public, getting getting my information out there, meeting
- 2:24people. I've done a lot of that. I've been campaigning all across the
- 2:28state, so that's been effective so far. But I think that you'll see
- 2:31the level of unpopularity of the candidates, not just at the presidential level,
- 2:37but the number of people that may identify as Democrats but who are unhappy with
- 2:40Tammy Baldwin because she's just doing the same old thing. She comes around every
- 2:44six years. She talks about what she delivers, even though it's money that
- 2:46was taken out of our pockets in the first place. They see Eric Huby
- 2:50as a candidate who was recruited by the Senate, the Senate Committee, the
- 2:54US Senate Reelection Committee, not recruited by this state Republicans here, who doesn't
- 3:01have a record of doing anything other than coming back to Wisconsin to run for
- 3:05office occasionally, and they're becoming more and more aware of what's going on.
- 3:09And I think that's also we're also being helped by independent media too, as
- 3:14you probably know, independent media like Joe Rogan, Sarker, Carlson, people
- 3:20like that are more listened to now than mainstream news sources. So there's a
- 3:24lot of hope, and it makes it difficult to campaign. But we're getting
- 3:30better and better each time around. We're getting more followers, raising more money.
- 3:32We've blown past our fundraising from the last couple of times I've run.
- 3:37So we have hope and we're not going to give up because the problem is
- 3:39that important to fight. Got to ask you, I've got some of the
- 3:43information for the upcoming debate, and I'm noticing it's only two candidates. I've
- 3:46got to guess that that's not helpful for you, is when it's kind of
- 3:52closed off to anyone other than the two big parties exactly. The Wisconsin Broadcasters
- 3:58Association runs those debates. Their criteria are you have to have raised half a
- 4:01million dollars by July thirty first or by the August first, reporting to a
- 4:06VC and be pulling at ten percent. Now, when I entered this race
- 4:12in twenty sixteen, I was pulling at nine, So I don't think the
- 4:14ten percent is going to be that much of a problem. But raising half
- 4:17a million dollars is definitely a barrier because of what I started off with,
- 4:21and that is that mainstream candidates, Republicans and Democrats have zero problem raising money
- 4:28funneling money into their campaigns because they're bought and paid for. Somebody who does
- 4:30not represent those big money interests has more of a challenge. But I encourage
- 4:34everyone who's listening to look into the campaign Anderson Forusenate dot com, look at
- 4:40the page that talks about ballot debate access, and we do have a way
- 4:44in if we raise enough money by July thirty first, and we're on our
- 4:46way. Talking this morning with Phil Anderson, candidate for US Senate, Phil,
- 4:49as we talk about some of the issues, then I know something that's
- 4:53been big for you is your perspective is government overreach, that the government's too
- 4:58involved. How do you kind of untangle that and what are some of those
- 5:00areas that are kind of key to you that that you say, this is
- 5:03kind of one of those areas that really resonates with folks. As far as
- 5:08overreach, well, I think one of the main things, and this is
- 5:11overreach, but maybe not in the way that people normally think about it,
- 5:14is the constant state of war that we're in, the government is constantly getting
- 5:18us into wars and complex overseas. We know they've been lying about most of
- 5:23them, if not all of them, since Korea. And that's the constant
- 5:26stream of money that's coming from either our taxpayer's pockets or it's being printed or
- 5:30borrowed and being laundered overseas to come back to the military industrial complex and whoever
- 5:34else. That's a huge example of government overreach. But also I think it's
- 5:40a shame and I'd argue at the sin that our government is at war with
- 5:44the very rights that they're supposed to protect. We've seen government influence social media,
- 5:49try and try and influence what social media is putting out there, spying
- 5:54on its own citizens. These are things that we shouldn't have to be fighting.
- 5:58The government, if it were represent and defending the constitution, would be
- 6:02defending those rights and making sure that they weren't infringed upon. But they're the
- 6:06ones that are actually doing it, and so we don't even know what our
- 6:11government is doing with our money. We don't even know what's going on behind
- 6:15the scenes. And I'm not talking about top secret things. I'm just talking
- 6:17about how they actually work. So until we break that government overreach of the
- 6:23warfare state and the secrecy state, we don't even know what's going on in
- 6:26government, and we can't even inform our representatives on how to help best represent
- 6:30us. Do you think the US should be supplying the Ukraine with financially or
- 6:34with weaponry or do you think that something we should be staying out of.
- 6:39I think it's a long long issue that we could have avoided a long time
- 6:43ago. We shouldn't have helped overturn that government in twenty fourteen in the first
- 6:46place. We should have Right now, we need to scale back and pull
- 6:49back from that and help negotiate a peace. There was a peace agreement on
- 6:53the table a couple of years ago that we sent Boris Johnson over to kill
- 6:57it. The Ukraine and Russia are ready to We had a peace agreement two
- 7:00years ago and the West killed that for the purpose of, like I said,
- 7:04being able to cycle money and weapons. Do there for the benefit of
- 7:06those who are among the donor class in the military industrial complex. Talking this
- 7:11morning with Phil Anderson, candidate for US Senate running as an independent in Phil
- 7:15got a couple of minutes left here, I do want to give you kind
- 7:18of a chance to for folks that obviously listeners of the station and others out
- 7:24there that that that tune in very oftentimes influential talk with talk with us,
- 7:30tell us a little bit about about what you would do as we've as we've
- 7:32kind of covered some of the stuff and some of those bigger issues like,
- 7:35for example, who would you caucus with? How I you know, how
- 7:39do you proceed after after let's say you do win coming up in this next
- 7:44election, how do you proceed then? Well, I'm not exactly sure.
- 7:47It'd be pretty groundbreaking to be the first independent well unless you're unless you're counting
- 7:54Bernie Sanders, so I wouldn't count as an independent anymore. But i'd be
- 7:58caucusing by myself, I guess, and in essence, especially if the proportion
- 8:03of the Senate is down to fifty forty nine, if I belong to it
- 8:07fifty one forty eight, and then in essence, and I have an opportunity
- 8:09to wag the dog there, and they'll be coming to me to vote on
- 8:11things at confessionals from either side, and hopefully author some legislation. But my
- 8:18biggest hurdle will be trying to get heard amongst all the noise in the Senate,
- 8:22and I expect that just being revealing of the process. Do you remember
- 8:26when Tammy Baldman tried to pass the Restrict Act basically outlaw on TikTok among other
- 8:31things. It was Ran Paul who stood up and pointed out that they were
- 8:35trying to pass that at eleven thirty at night without a quorum. And that's
- 8:37the sort of thing that I would participate in. I wouldn't have a lot
- 8:41about opportunity to author legislation and be you know, to do that sort of
- 8:45thing, but certainly pull the wall off of everything so that people can see
- 8:48exactly what's going on and standing up for at least transparency piece and what should
- 8:52be what our government should be doing is what I'll be doing every day.
- 8:54Bill Anderson, candidate for US Senate. Phil thank you so much for your
- 8:58time and we'll talk real soon. Thanks. Sean Dan O'Donnell comes right next.
