- 2:11That took the early lead in the afternoon game, they led 2-0.
- 2:14Houston came from behind tied the game, that's three games to lead in the ninth.
- 2:18But Houston scored two the last of the men earned runs to win the game 4-3 in the last of the ninth inning.
- 2:25Now Charlie Neal up, Charlie 2 for the fix in the third.
- 2:28A fly ball hit right down the right field line running hard as Fajillas to the line.
- 2:33The catch was a fair play.
- 2:38Roman Mejia caught up with it and grabbed it just as he reached the line down toward the right field corner.
- 2:46To ask nobody on, Gene Woodring coming up.
- 2:50Gene 0 for one has appeared twice in a series of 10-10.
- 3:05Dolly Amos coaching it first, Kugilavacetto coaching it third.
- 3:09A foul ball whacked high in the air and deep down the left field line this will be over in the boxes and out of play.
- 3:16After the hard rains early this morning in Houston the weather broke just in time for the afternoon game.
- 3:22And although the humidity is extremely high these guys right now are mostly clear.
- 3:30A little bit high to Gene Woodring, one ball one strike.
- 3:34Center and right hander, Terk Farrell on the mound for the goal 45.
- 3:38Al Smith working behind the play.
- 3:42Now the 1-1 delivery inside the highest ball two, two and one.
- 3:47In the afternoon game Jim Campbell was behind the plate for Houston.
- 3:51Late in the game he suffered an injury to the ring finger on his throwing end and he has it now in a swim.
- 3:57He'll be out about two weeks or more.
- 4:00The 2-1 delivery inside the highest ball three.
- 4:07Houston immediately petitioned league president Warren Jow for permission for a replacement for Jim Campbell.
- 4:14And Merritt Raynew will join the team tomorrow.
- 4:17A foul ball whacked it back in the air as it's going out of play.
- 4:23All 40 of the most recent additions to the pitching staff of New York Met for in uniform for tonight's game.
- 4:31Larry Foss, the team from the Pittsburgh organization, he had won 10 and lost 5 this year with Asheville.
- 4:37Arrived in time for tonight's ball game. Larry took his family to Wichita, his hometown, then came back to join the Mets here in Houston.
- 4:46Fouled again by Gene Woodring out of play at three and two.
- 4:51So Larry Foss, Aylan Fusco and Sherman Roadblock Jones are all in uniform for tonight's game.
- 5:00He's the anxious to get a look at them as soon as he can.
- 5:05It has been two weeks since Fusco was used by the Red Sox for about 12 days in a slough work.
- 5:11Foul hits and a slow breaking pitch, three and two.
- 5:24Two outs, nobody on. We're just underway, top of the first, whittling the batter.
- 5:29Pitch by Pearl, a high lazy fly ball that showed Ryan Fields.
- 5:34Backing down the line goes Norm Larker and he grabs it in fair character for the third out.
- 5:44No runs, no hits, no errors, none left on.
- 5:47The score in the middle of the first, the Mets nothing and the Colts 45 skimming the bat.
- 5:53And now time out for a moment's entertainment with a famous group of entertainers from Rangel.
- 5:59The Rangel Expedition, talented players for the potato of the old Ponce.
- 6:06In a cavern in the sand, competing for a mind, lives a mind 49, daughter Clementine.
- 6:13Oh my darling, oh my darling, oh my darling Clementine, we were lost and gone forever, oh my darling Clementine.
- 6:22Weeks ago this patient miner sent his daughter out for beer.
- 6:26Get me Rangel, Mr. Rangel, my favorite brand new year.
- 6:31In the town's name went a running, to do his daddy's work.
- 6:35There are better hands than cowboys, even daddy's Rangel.
- 6:38Rangel's right at only six.
- 6:40And draw a heart, don't you, boy.
- 6:43From now on my beer is Rangel and my wife is a queen.
- 6:46Gotta host when they're young. Here, boy, have a glass, darling, that's cool.
- 6:52Oh my Rangel, Mr. Rangel, oh my Rangel.
- 6:58Now we move along to the last half of inning number one.
- 7:13On the mound an act for the New York Mets, veteran right-hander Roger Craig.
- 7:18Chris Cannazero working behind the plate and the leadoff hitter in the game for Houston will be the shortstop Bob Lillis.
- 7:24Mets are set up defensively with Myra Throneberry at first.
- 7:28Rod Kanila second, Elio Chacon is short and Charlie Neal at third.
- 7:33In the outfield, Dean Woodling on left, Jim Hickman playing center.
- 7:37Around in right field, Joe Christopher. Bob Lillis, right-hand batter, leading off against Roger Craig.
- 7:46He hits the first pitch in the air to center field. Hickman galloping in, he's in front of it, makes the catch one down.
- 7:56The skeeter situation is unusual in Houston and the timing for the New York Mets has not been the best.
- 8:04Last time the Mets came into Houston, the skeeters would come along, he would look at the microphone over,
- 8:11by the sixth engine he'd reach over and grab it and let it back over where it was.
- 8:15As they left, they went down south towards the Gulf and they have been gone, but they arrived back in Houston three days ago,
- 8:21according to the authorities on such things.
- 8:27Al Fangler the hitter and the pitch inside, ball one.
- 8:33There was one that landed on Lindsey's scorecard last night that was so big it covered up one whole square it seemed.
- 8:39Run it down the third base line, it's going foul, no play.
- 8:44You know, Ralph, they don't need an air-conditioned stadium down here because of the heat, they need it for those skeeters.
- 8:49Now that one that landed on the scorecard in Lindsey's, Lindsey marked it down as a run score.
- 8:59Boy, nobody on, one ball, one strike.
- 9:03I'll tell you, if I see a great big one resting on your shoulder, I'll be carrying to you and not tell you about it.
- 9:11Joe Kresnik, our engineer, normally a radio engineer, the ballgames wear a headset, he's got a couple of swords.
- 9:21Now the one-one delivery, and that's over for a strike on the inside corner, one ball and two strikes.
- 9:35Infield and the outfield, going toward right against the speedy Al Fangler.
- 9:41Now Roger Craig, the tall, slim Ryan Hander delivers a drive, hit hard down the right field line.
- 9:46Christopher running hard, makes the catch near the line, kill him down.
- 9:51The ball really ripped by Al Fangler, and Christopher caught up with it just before he reached the line.
- 10:02Very close to the temporary ballpark where the games are being played this year here in Houston,
- 10:07the tremendous excavation for the beautiful new ballpark.
- 10:13Nothing more than the excavation has been done, and it is right now a real Texas-wide swimming pool.
- 10:26Nobody on, two men down.
- 10:28Craig out on the wind, that delivers, and it's a smash through the box, going up the middle for a face-off by Ramon Mejiaz, the right fielder.
- 10:36Mejiaz takes the turn, he's out of second to third.
- 10:51Down arm, Larker comes up, Larker hitting clean up.
- 10:59Larker hitting a 2-63 on the air.
- 11:04Docky left hand batter, Ryan drives, and Ryan hitters.
- 11:12Dave Roberts, the rookie, was the first face this afternoon in the early part of the game for the Houston Gold 45.
- 11:22Many new faces popping up in the major leagues now that we are into September,
- 11:26and the ball clubs want to get a look at the firemen, but enjoyed real good years in the minor leagues.
- 11:31Here goes the runner, which is a strike to pick by Cannazero, what a throw, but he is saved at second base.
- 11:38Now, Elias Cohen whirls to argue with the second base umpire, Jack Cropper.
- 11:44Chris Cannazero made a tremendous throw down to second, and on a close play at second base, he slides in with a stolen base.
- 11:52His 11th stolen base of the year.
- 12:00So, Ramon Mejiaz has set himself up in potential scoring position with two men down.
- 12:05Canna strike one on Norm Larker.
- 12:08Carl Warwick, the center fielder, is on deck, and then Bob Aspermati.
- 12:22Now, Roger looking in to take his side from Cannazero.
- 12:25Here's the pitcher on the way, inside and low, one ball, one strike.
- 12:3145s right now are riding their best furtive the entire year.
- 12:34They have won 10 of their last 13 ball games.
- 12:37They are riding their longest winning streak of the season, a streak of five straights.
- 12:45And right now, the Dodgers and Giants are in a flat footed tie in the national extended race.
- 12:50Here's the pitcher on the way, and it's spouse foul down the first baseline.
- 12:55The Dodgers can either regain undisputed possession at first by a half game if they win tonight,
- 13:01and if they lose, they'll fall behind the Giants by a half game.
- 13:05The Cincinnati Reds are facing a comeback from behind effort, just as they did last night.
- 13:10Last night, they trailed St. Louis 4-1, came from behind, tied the game in the ninth,
- 13:16fell behind in the tenth, tied the game in the tenth, and then won it in the eleventh.
- 13:22Reds right now, three games out of first place.
- 13:27They're drilling the Cardinals 4-1 at the end of three and a half tonight.
- 13:31Here's the pitcher to Lager, he golfed with a ground ball off his ankle, and that one really hurt.
- 13:35It knocked his legs right out from under him.
- 13:44Reds are three and a half back, sending the outcome of their game,
- 13:47and of course the Dodger-Pittsburgh game tonight in Los Angeles.
- 14:01Now we're waiting while Norm Larker walks around trying to shake the pain out of his ankle.
- 14:05He was hit by a foul ball, and that one was really painful.
- 14:09It knocked his legs right out from under him.
- 14:12Got one ball and two strikes, no score, we're in the last half of the first inning.
- 14:20And that's St. Louis Cincinnati game tonight, Joey J is after his 22nd victory of the year.
- 14:30Missed flying Lager as the bull hitter, Iliyoshi Cohn, shaded far over George Second.
- 14:35Rod Caneo back on the rim of the outfield grass, pitching one and two.
- 14:40He's down and low, and now it's two and two on Lager.
- 14:56Count is even now, two and two, Carl Warwick, the center fielder, occupying the on-deck circle.
- 15:03Now Craig up in pitching position, pickoff play, throw to second, save, close play.
- 15:09And he has had to dive back at first, and he just got back in time.
- 15:16They had the pickoff play going, and the timing was excellent.
- 15:20Iliyoshi Cohn darting in to take the throw from Roger Craig.
- 15:26That's in the nice game, once again, or without the services of Richie Ashburn.
- 15:31Richie was hurt in the game yesterday, diving for a ball in foul territory just over the line.
- 15:37He has a very stiff and a very sore shoulder, which is restrictive throwing, and Richie is out of action.
- 15:44He is in uniform, and he was used as a defense runner in the game this afternoon.
- 15:54Count two and two on Norm Lager.
- 15:56Now Craig Reddy delivers, and the breaking ball just misses three and two.
- 16:04Tomorrow's game time changed from the original schedule.
- 16:07We'll be on the air at 5.55 tomorrow evening in New York.
- 16:11The last of the four game series.
- 16:15The Monday night semester home, meeting the Milwaukee Braves in the photograph.
- 16:27Now Craig is going three and two on Norm Lager.
- 16:30It's a payoff pitch, ball four is outside.
- 16:38That'll bring up Carl Warwick.
- 16:42Warwick hit list is nine times the size of the series.
- 16:45Right-hand batter hitting at 2.59 on the air.
- 16:50Carl came up through the Dodger organization.
- 16:52They traded him on to St. Louis, and St. Louis traded him to Houston in the Bobby Shands trade early this year.
- 16:59That has been a good trade for both balls.
- 17:03Warwick has played well for Houston.
- 17:05Little Bobby Shands has had a good year for the St. Louis Cardinals.
- 17:11Now Craig Reddy in comes his pitch, a foul ball.
- 17:14High into the air, back of the stairs, it'll be out of play.
- 17:28Bob Aspermati, the third baseman, is out on deck.
- 17:42Now Slim Lookfin takes the assign from Kenneth Arrow.
- 17:45Here's the pitch on the way.
- 17:47Outside and low, one ball, one strike on Carl Warwick.
- 18:12Now Craig up in pitching position, delivers ground ball, hit down to third.
- 18:16Off of the ball, Felix Charlie kneel, and Charlie makes the fourth play at third on Ramon Mejia to retire the side.
- 18:23Right out on the last half of the first, no runs, one hit.
- 18:26No errors, two left arms.
- 18:28And now at the end of one, the score, New York Mets nothing, and the Houston Gold 45, nothing.
- 18:41Now next year, you'll be seeing the New York Mets play their home games in beautiful new surroundings at the new Flushing Meadow Stadium.
- 18:51You know, work on the new ballpark has progressed to the extent that the Mets are now accepting applications for season boxes and combination plan tickets.
- 19:01The collective purchasers may send names and addresses to ticket manager Polo Grounds New York 39, and application blanks will be sent to them.
- 19:11Present subscribers need not apply if applications will be mailed to them.
- 19:17First time you get the opportunity and you're out for a leisurely drive, be sure and swing by Flushing Meadows and see the tremendous progress that has been made on the beautiful new home of the New York Mets, Flushing Meadows Stadium.
- 19:30Field work has gone up amazingly fast.
- 19:34And when it is all done, it is going to be a real thrill to watch the Mets in action in that beautiful new surrounding.
- 19:45We've enjoyed tremendously broadcasting ballgames this year from the beautiful new stadium for the Los Angeles Dodgers on the West Coast.
- 19:53And when the stadium is done out in Flushing Meadows, it will be even better.
- 19:59Well, they are incorporating and taking advantage of many mistakes that might have been made there to make this one even better.
- 20:08Mark Thrunberry will be leading off as we go along to the top of the second.
- 20:13First baser number two, Mark Thrunberry.
- 20:21Marv looking for his first base hit in the Houston 30. Marv 0 for 5 thus far. Farrell out of his line up, here's his pitch and it's fouled back into the screens, track one.
- 20:45Now Farrell winding, down comes the pitch and it's whacked foul again by Thrunberry back towards the cross.
- 20:51Ralph, interestingly enough, here's a fellow Farrell who has lost 18 ballgames, but I know when you hear the hitters talk, they hate to go up against him.
- 21:00He has a good fastball, Bob, and of course a lot of pictures that you hit against, or tougher to hit against in their record actually indicate.
- 21:09Winging a miss and he's drugged him out with this lazy fastball.
- 21:17One away, nobody on top of the second, now Jim Hickman coming off. Jim has one hit and eight times up in this series.
- 21:30Well, we hope you're enjoying the broadcast of tonight's game brought to you from Houston, Texas, with the best switches of Rangold Extra Dry.
- 21:39And right along with the ballgame, we hope you'll enjoy a fine, cold glass of Rangold Extra Dry, beer as beer should taste.
- 21:47Dry tells you why. Now Jim Hickman up against Turk Farrell takes the pitch, ball one.
- 21:57Jim from Henning, Tennessee, a right-hand hitter batting a 2-61. Breaking ball outside and low, it's ball two, two and nothing.
- 22:1545's play, Jim's up the bat straight away. He holds up, he started to go, had a notion, then thought better of it, and it's outside and low, ball three, three and nothing.
- 22:36After this series, the Mets will have 17 games left. Fastball in there, a strike, three and one. 12 games at home in the follow-up rounds and five on the road.
- 22:46They wind up their home season on September 23rd and play their last five of the year on the road in Milwaukee and Chicago.
- 22:54Pitching three and one. Ripped foul over toward the Houston dugout, goes right into the dugout, an account of three and two.
- 23:02A couple of the players down toward the end of the dugout fence really had to scramble to get out of the way of that one.
- 23:14You can see the fellows over in the dugout, the professionals who are paid to catch a baseball for a living.
- 23:19When a foul ball goes in there, they get out of the way in a hurry. Line drive, hit hard, oh it's foul by about a yard, deep down the left field line.
- 23:27It really rips the curve ball and hit it hard, but it went foul by a rest of the yard, deep down the left field line.
- 23:36Danny Murtaugh says the fellows who are paid to catch a ball for a living, they'll get out of the way of a hot foul ball like that.
- 23:43But the fellow who comes to the ball park who is a great fan, you'll see him try to make a fair hand catch.
- 23:57Now the payoff pitch by Turk Ferrell is swinging, but he's struck him out.
- 24:04He is going with that hummer.
- 24:07Two up and two struck out by Turk Ferrell and that brings up Joe Christopher. Joe has two hits and six times up.
- 24:16He had a ninth inning triple that led to a run that broke a 2-2 tie, but Houston picked up two in the home ninth inning and won it 4-3 this afternoon.
- 24:26Joe's hitting has worked up over the last three weeks.
- 24:41Here's the windup, down comes the pitch. Off the outside corner it's all one.
- 24:46Christopher won a game for the Mets on this road trip in St. Louis with a time-way two run 10th singles.
- 24:56Infield and the outfield straight away. Swing and a miss, one ball, one strike.
- 25:06Big Turk Ferrell hard throwing right hander for Brookline, Massachusetts.
- 25:16Now the 1-1 delivery is swinging a miss. One ball and two strikes.
- 25:21He has really been zeroing in on his target here on the top of the second.
- 25:26Struck out Throneberry, struck out Hickman, counting out one and two on Joe Christopher.
- 25:36Now Ferrell looking into Hal Smith. Here's his windup, the 1-2 delivery. Off the outside corner and it's two and two.
- 25:47In the last of the fifth inning Cincinnati picks up a single run.
- 25:51It is now St. Louis 4 Cincinnati 3 at the end of five innings.
- 25:56Reds were trailing 4-1. St. Louis 3-4.
- 26:01The 2-2 pitch, swing and a miss, he's struck him out.
- 26:05Ferrell strikes off the side all swinging in the second inning.
- 26:14No runs, no hits, no errors, done left, done. And the score at the end of an inning and a half.
- 26:21The New York Mets nothing and the Houston Colts 45 nothing.
- 26:27Well with the expansion coming to the National League this season, that meant 162 ball games.
- 26:34More baseball and an exciting set of grades for National League baseball fans.
- 26:38And of course, along the way plenty of refreshing rain goals.
- 26:43You know rain goal goes good at any season.
- 26:46You can enjoy it anytime because rain goal has that extra dry flavor that's brisk and bright and clean, clear through.
- 26:55Those two little words make the big difference in taste.
- 26:59Extra dry tells you why rain goal has a taste all its own.
- 27:04It tells you that rain goal is brewed the long, slow, costlier way. Brewed extra dry for extra enjoyment.
- 27:13Why not settle back with a cool glass of rain goal extra dry and enjoy it along with the game.
- 27:20You'll join millions who say, my beer is rain goal the dry beer.
- 27:41Well with only 12 home games remaining in New York at the Polo Grounds,
- 27:45you won't want to miss the excitement of the Poston County Reds making their final advance for three games series Friday night, Saturday and Sunday.
- 27:5514th, 15th and 16th of September.
- 27:59You've got a hand at the Hutchins and the Reds. They seem to be hopelessly out of it and they've fought right back.
- 28:04Ground ball bounce right up the middle by Bob Aspermati for a face-in.
- 28:08He hits the first pitch drawn by Roger Craig and leads off with 0-6.
- 28:25Now Hal Smith is coming up.
- 28:29Freddie Hutchinson has probably done as good a job as not a better job this year than he did last year while his team won the pennant.
- 28:37Last year everyone in baseball generally agreed that he turned in an outstanding managing job.
- 28:42But this year he's had his third baseman, Gene Freeze, out all year long.
- 28:47Craig Robinson got off to a slow start and Jim O'Toole got off to a slow start.
- 28:54Last year Hutch was named by his colleagues as manager of the year.
- 29:00Here's the pitch on the way and Smith takes outside. A throw to first by Kenna Zero. It's not in time.
- 29:11All over in Baltimore the Angels have won a pitching duel from the Orioles 2-1.
- 29:16The Angels were out hit 11-3 but won the game.
- 29:20Malinsky is the winner and Estrada the loser.
- 29:23Bo went out of the game in the sixth inning and was picked up and relieved by Don Lee.
- 29:28Bo is in first by Roger Craig as he goes to work on Bob Aspermonte.
- 29:37Down comes the pitch by Craig, breaking ball over a strike on the outside corner.
- 29:43You never know where you'll get a lift in this game of baseball this afternoon Jim Campbell was catching for Houston.
- 29:49He suffered an injury and had to leave the game. Hal Smith took over behind the plate.
- 29:53And Lo and the old Smith came up in a hummer to tie the game.
- 30:02Craig checks the runner. Throw is the first base down in time.
- 30:08Roger has picked 13 men off this year including Maury Wills and Willie Mays.
- 30:15Outside in low ball 2-2 and one on Hal Smith.
- 30:21The American League Funnet Race, the top three teams were all victorious in action this afternoon and tonight.
- 30:27The Yankees beat the Red Sox 6-1 with Ford winning his 15th.
- 30:31Minnesota beat Detroit 9-2 past fall winning his 18th.
- 30:35And the Malinsky the winner as the Angels beat the Birds 2-1 tonight.
- 30:48Throw to first once again by Roger Craig down in time.
- 31:01Now Roger Craig, up in the set position checks the runner, delivers to the plate and it's over to the knees for a call strike 2-2.
- 31:12Anytime the leadoff runner gets on base against Roger Craig, you'll see Roger really go to work to try and pick him off.
- 31:19If he's on with one away or with two down, he generally will not pay nearly as much attention to him but join in and work on the hitter very strongly.
- 31:32Now Roger up in the set position delivers 2-2. Queen and a foul ball back into the screen and the bats flew out of his hands and failed pass to Mal.
- 32:00Down 2-2 now to Hal Smith. Nobody out, Aspermonte on first base.
- 32:07Here's the pitch on the way. Outside and low is ball three.
- 32:11Now let's keep an eye on Aspermonte and see if acting manager Luman Harris puts a play on.
- 32:18Harry Craft expected to rejoin the ball club and take over the controls tomorrow afternoon.
- 32:27Now Craig makes the stop. Throws to first base, not in time.
- 32:39Another throw to first and again a little bit too late.
- 32:45This is always a tough spot for the runner, 3-2 if the play is on for him to be running.
- 32:49Trying to get as much lead as possible and yet not get picked off.
- 32:54There he goes. The pitch is a foul ball coming back to it on our broadcasting booth. No play.
- 32:59Hey what a catch.
- 33:01When the grandstand out, we'll see you right down in front of us. Really spags that one right out of the air.
- 33:17Bottom half of the second, no score on the game.
- 33:26Now Roger Craig ties Aspermonte. Throws to first.
- 33:31Save, he just got back. Craig had him leading the wrong way that time. Aspermonte is throwing and groping for the bag. Just got there on the nick of time.
- 33:47Roger had him dead to rights that time and the throw was not quite as good as it usually is.
- 34:03Counts full, 3-2. Now Patano, the on deck batter.
- 34:09A throw to first, not in time. The crowd is starting to get on Craig a little bit now because he has thrown to first so many times.
- 34:18It doesn't bother Roger at all. A throw to first, not in time.
- 34:24It seems like more time than that when Craig's this tall. He's probably going to get him and he usually gets him.
- 34:34Now Roger in the stretch. Delivers to the plate, the runner goes and it's popped high in the air.
- 34:40Coming up the line, it's thrown to right near the bat. He's getting under it and Marv takes it to the off.
- 34:50Run away now with one on and the batter will be Joey Amal Patano, the second baseman.
- 34:56Little Al Jackson hurled his one hitter against Houston in New York in the first game of a double header.
- 35:04It was Amal Patano who had the only hit in the ball game, a first inning single with one man down.
- 35:13Amal Patano hitting a 2-33. Right hand back.
- 35:19Craig up the stretch, delivers, fast ball a little bit low. One ball and no strikes.
- 35:36Now Craig up in pitching position, delivers a swing and a miss on a breaking ball. One ball, one strike.
- 35:45The game tomorrow will be on at 5.55 New York time, a single game.
- 36:02Next pitch by Craig, long on, foul hit. And a count 1 and 2 on Amal Patano.
- 36:09Dick Ferrell will be hitting next. Ferrell is one of those pitchers that doesn't hit too often, but he's strong and when he gets a hold of one he can really give it a ride.
- 36:24Next pitch by Craig, a grounded foul over toward the dugout of a New York mess.
- 36:29He's right into the dugout and a count is one ball and two strikes.
- 36:45In field and the outfield, straight away against Joy Amal Patano.
- 36:49Craig Reddy delivers a high fly ball into left field. Moving to his glove side goes Dean Woodling, knees under it and he puts it away for the outs.
- 37:01Two down now, the runner holding in first base and coming out to hit will be Dick Ferrell.
- 37:07We now pause for station identification.

- 37:34Dick Ferrell batting right handed, swinging at him as it strike wide.
- 37:40The Cardinals are out on the sixth inning without scoring, Red sitting now on the home six.
- 37:45Four to three ball game, the Cardinals in front.
- 37:51A line drive, put into left field for a base hit by Ferrell. Woodling's toward the line and puts it on his side of third.
- 37:59And fighting in space is there as Bob has for money.
- 38:03He hit a hard liner, needle left to ground, feet forward, goes just beyond the reach of Ferrell.
- 38:10Put him on the left field for a clean base hit.
- 38:28The Cardinals 45 have runners on first and third, they're all two men away.
- 38:33No score last half of the second and the hitter is Bob Lillip.
- 38:37Lillip's a shortstop and leadoff hitter batting a 241.
- 38:41By Greg a fly ball, this is right field Christopher coming hard toward the line and at the last corner, the last.
- 38:58The last Camille at the line is full speed into the outfield and has the ball in his glove.
- 39:04But collided with Bill Christopher who was going in at full speed and they hit so hard that the ball spun free and went across the line.
- 39:12It'll be sore to face him.
- 39:14After money comes in to score, Ferrell winds up on third and Lillip's on second with a double.
- 39:22They hit pretty hard, they were both running at full speed.
- 39:26When Christopher was coming in, Camille was going out.
- 39:42Now the batter is Al Stangler, full 45 takes the lead one to nothing.
- 39:47Stangler lined the ball to right field his first time up.
- 39:50He hit the ball hard but Christopher caught it running to the line.
- 39:54Stangler's ball wind up, here's his pitch.
- 39:57Inside and low, it's ball one.
- 40:00Rod Canil took a pretty tough jolt out there in the outfield.
- 40:03He was going as fast as he could.
- 40:06Reaching out, he had the ball in his glove and just as the ball hit in his glove, he was hit hard by Joe Christopher.
- 40:12He either saw the other and the ball squirted over toward the right field line.
- 40:24Now two in scoring position, Roger Craig takes his stand from Chris Canil Ferrell.
- 40:34Roger out of his land, up down comes his pitch.
- 40:38Ball one, one ball, one strike.
- 40:41Stangler hitting 283, four home runs and 27 runs batted in.
- 40:50He has exceptional speed.
- 40:53Let's play him around to right of the infield.
- 40:57Stangler left hand hitter, feet wide apart.
- 41:01Kirk Ferrell leads down the line from third and the pitch on the way is inside and low, it's ball two, two and one.
- 41:10And adding Yusin, the humidity higher than the temperature, the temperature 81 and the humidity 88.
- 41:33Now Craig with a two and one count on Al Stangler.
- 41:38Lillis on second, Kirk Ferrell on third, two men down.
- 41:42Next pitch by Craig, breaking ball in the dirt, it's three and one on Al Stangler.
- 41:48Amon Mejias, the right fielder, is the on deck hitter.
- 42:09Down three and one.
- 42:15And down is the pitch.
- 42:18Last foul on the ground, coming right straight back, three and two.
- 42:21Labor Day, the Phillies were here in Houston, they had beaten the Houston Colts 45 15 in a row.

- 42:40Didn't work, the Phillies won both games with a double hitter, but the next day he claims it worked
- 42:45and the Colts 45 won their only game of the year from the Philadelphia Phillies.
- 42:53Now the three two pitch, swing and a miss, he's struck him out.
- 42:58Al Stangler struck out on a breaking ball by Roger Craig.
- 43:02Roger notching his first strikeout.

- 52:16Here's the first pitch to Craig. It's bunned out towards the right side and going foul. Strike one counter, Roger.

- 53:13A very well pitcher like Tirk Farrell, very tough to punt.
- 53:18And especially he punts the ball off all in the ground.

- 54:43There's a fastball back to Chacon, again high. Two balls and no strike.
- 55:03Doing all this Farrell takes too long in the mound as Chacon steps out of the batter's box. Now Chacon calling Kipy Lavageto up to have a talk.
- 55:13Kipy the third base coach, Salahimas back in the line for the Mets at first base.
- 55:18He's been out on a scouting tour and he joined the Mets here. As Bob Murphy put it, the Mets join him here at Houston.
- 55:27Salahimas makes his home in this Texas city.
- 55:35Now down in as Chacon comes back to the batter's box.
- 55:41And Farrell goes back to work. And the next pitch is high inside. It moves Chacon away from the plate.

- 56:17Jardy flat out to right field his first time up. Right hand batting third baseman. On a third base Chris Cannizzaro.
- 56:28At second base Roger Craig. Moved down there after the walk as he called.

- 56:55Farrell with his sign now into the line up and delivers. Fastball high for ball one. Just above the letter.
- 57:09Now action in the bullpen for the Colts 45. They don't waste any time down here. They have them up and going early.
- 57:17The relief staff has done an excellent job this year. Here's the one-all pitch to Neal. Fastball inside again and high. Two balls and no strikes.
- 57:27Farrell now falling behind Neal after walking Chacon and Howe Smith walking the ball back to the pitchers now. Smith docking to Farrell on the mound.
- 57:49The relief staff, Chacon and Howe, warms up in the bullpen for the Colts 45. Chacon and Howe are knuckleball specialist.
- 58:04Houston one run on four hits. The Mets have no runs in two hits. And the Mets with the bases loaded.
- 58:10Here's Neal lying right through the middle in the center field of bases. Going from third base, Canada now coming around from second base Roger Craig.

- 59:56And here's the first pitch tomorrow. A fast ball that's inside ball one.
- 1:00:07Farrell retires the Mets one, two, three in the first and second innings.
- 1:00:11But the Mets after Keneal had gone out. Coming up with four consecutive men on base.
- 1:00:25Now Farrell taking plenty of time as the sign. Back to Dromberry with a fast ball that's hit out the left field.
- 1:00:31It could drop in coming down the left fielder's fangler. He can't get to it.
- 1:00:35Torrey from third base. Elias Chacon and following him around is Jolly Neal.

- 1:00:48And now the Mets with runners at first and second base and the batter is Jim Hickman.
- 1:00:53That ball was grouped out the left field. The left fielder Al Fanger playing a very deep left field.
- 1:00:59Could not get to it. It dropped in front of him. And two men scored.
- 1:01:04The two men is now four to one as Jim Hickman, right hand batting center fielder, steps up.
- 1:01:10It's all even now at four feet.

- 1:15:55Shot and knee on the ball goes off his glove, it falls over towards the top seed area.
- 1:16:00So once again, Amal Pedano stays alive at two balls and two strikes.
- 1:16:15And Ryan Goldbeer, happy to be sending this one your way from Houston, Texas.

- 1:17:57A real piglin to keep in mind.
- 1:18:00And you know this is the time of year when a frosty glass of beer seems to taste best.
- 1:18:05And when that glass holds cold refreshing Ryan Gold extra dry, it tastes even better.
- 1:18:11That's because Ryan Gold is beer as beerers should taste.
- 1:18:14And dry tells you why.
- 1:18:17Enjoy it. Right along with the game as we move to the top of the fourth inning.
- 1:18:21Mets lead it 4-2 and the first man up for New York will be Joe Christopher.
- 1:18:26And the first pitch to the right hand batting right fielder is a strike call that Kirk Farrell starts off here in the fourth.
- 1:18:35Through three innings he has given up four runs, allows four hits.
- 1:18:38Strikeout, four and walk two.
- 1:18:42Joe, one of the strikeouts, becomes his first time up.
- 1:18:45But he looks at the curve, it's low. One ball, one strike.
- 1:18:57Farrell, 28 years of age, big strong throwing right hand there on the mound reading the signs from Al Smith.
- 1:19:03And now back to work, the 1-1 pitch has hit the center field.
- 1:19:06High in the air moving over is Carl Walby.
- 1:19:10Now waiting and he puts it away.
- 1:19:12Out number one here in the top of the fourth inning.
- 1:19:17And now Rod Canilo comes in. Rod pops his second base his first time up, 0-1.
- 1:19:23Batting to 256.
- 1:19:32That's where the two run lead, they lead 4-2.
- 1:19:35Picking up four runs in the third inning to take the lead away from the cold 45s who had leaded at that time one nothing.
- 1:19:42And the first pitch to the right hand batter is punted down towards the first base side.
- 1:19:47Farrell often picking up the ball, throws the first base in time for out number two.
- 1:19:52Making the play at first base Dave Roberts who went in as a pitch hitter for Norm Larkin.
- 1:19:57So if it's too hot the batter will be Chris Cannazero.
- 1:20:00Chris started off the rally in the third inning which saw the Mets score four by singling to right field.
- 1:20:06Roger Gray came up and shingled behind him to move him over to third base.
- 1:20:11And then Edie Chacon walked him on him up.
- 1:20:13Jody Neal drove in two with a base hit.
- 1:20:15And Mara Thromberg came up and drove in two more with a base hit.
- 1:20:194-2, two men out and Chris Cannazero right hand batter in.
- 1:20:32There's a first pitch, it's low outside for ball one.
- 1:20:43One ball low strike, two men out.
- 1:20:47As Farrell goes back to work and comes in with a fastball that is swung on for strike one.
- 1:20:54Farrell struck out the side in the second inning,
- 1:20:56picked up one strike out as he got Edie Chacon at the start of the game for his fourth strike out.
- 1:21:11And now the one-one pitch, a fastball, another swing and a miss for strike two.
- 1:21:16One ball, two strikes.
- 1:21:31Chris Cannazero out of the batter's box now in, standing deep in the box against the right-hander.
- 1:21:42Here's the one-two pitch, a fastball low outside, two balls and two strikes.
- 1:21:48Farrell worrying number 43, prefers to worry number 13.
- 1:21:51He would like to do it right here.
- 1:21:54But due to the scorecard problem, he had to use his own number, 43.
- 1:21:59On the road he worries 13, and next year he'll have that number for both the home and road game.
- 1:22:05The two-two pitch, point on a miss, he retires the side, a fifth strike out for a third throw as he turns the miss away, one-two-three.
- 1:22:13In the end he, no runs, no hits, no errors, and the score at the end, a three and one-half inning to play.
- 1:22:20The New York Mets four, play in goal 45-2.
- 1:22:23Now a popular question put to music by none other than Kyle Lopardo.
- 1:22:30Who is the girl who will be the girl Miss Ryan goes six-three?
- 1:22:37She, be a beauty, she, be really cute, the only girl for me.
- 1:22:45Carol the red, a highly-bevered, is through.
- 1:22:49Oh, Chris the one girl who will be that famous girl, that charming girl Miss Ryan goes six-three.
- 1:22:59This is Kyle Lopardo. Who will be this Ryan Gold 1963?
- 1:23:05Your vote may decide. Who will have the fame and fortune of representing Ryan Gold Extra Dry, the beer that gets both New Yorkers vote.
- 1:23:13So vote now.
- 1:23:15They're also charming, I'm in such a fix.
- 1:23:19Yes, I'll just have to vote all the all-stakes.
- 1:23:23Who is the girl who will be the girl Miss Ryan goes six-three?
- 1:23:30Moving to the bottom of the fourth inning with the Mets out in front four to two, and the first man up for the goal 45s will be the pitcher, Dick Farrell.
- 1:23:44Barrell single his first time up in the game.
- 1:23:48Single moving Bob S. Ramonni through third base where he scored later on when Bob Dillis moved the double to right field.
- 1:24:00Now the first pitch to the right hand batter by Roger Craig. It's a curve ball low outside for ball one.
- 1:24:07Roger through three innings has given up two runs, a lot of total of six hits. Struck out two and has walked through.
- 1:24:14Now time call as Farrell goes over to get a rag soaked with pine tar to put on the bat handle.
- 1:24:22It's a warm night here, the temperature came down 81 degrees with the humidity up around 90.
- 1:24:30And now Craig back to work and there's a ball hit down the third base side but going foul.
- 1:24:35Charlie Neal going over couldn't get to it, the ball goes on out in the bullpen.
- 1:24:39Bullpen area is still a little bit muddy. The outside of the playing area on the field is somewhat damp from the rains here early this morning.
- 1:24:50In field is very dry, the tarp was on it. Outfield in certain spots not too sure.
- 1:24:57Now Craig with a new ball back to the plate inside and high, ball two. Farrell goes down to his knees, two balls and one strike.
- 1:25:12On deck batter Bob Dillis, Craig back with a curve and there's a fly ball hit the left field.
- 1:25:17One team waiting, now moves in a couple of steps and makes a guess.
- 1:25:22Bob Dillis gets his first man here in the bottom half of the fourth inning and Bob Dillis comes up for the third time.
- 1:25:29Dillis one for three in the game picking up a two base hit when he blew the ball out to shallow white field.
- 1:25:37Todd Canillo went out to get his glove on the ball but it was a tough chance and when he was hit by Joe Christopher, Stohr gave a two base hit.
- 1:25:46Batting 242 for the year and batting from the right hand side.
- 1:25:58And the first pitch to Dillis by Roger Craig, a fast ball bounced off of the plate. Roger going back has to wait, the ball comes on down and Dillis comes up with another hit.
- 1:26:15Number seven off Roger Craig and no one had a chance for that one as Dillis bounced right off of home plate.
- 1:26:21The ball bounced so high in the air that no one could make a play and Dillis now with two hits in the game and both of them go down the gift side.
- 1:26:32And now with the winner's first base and one out, Alex Bangler comes in, left hand batting left fielder.
- 1:26:38Bangler lying to right field his first time up and struck out swinging his second hole for two batting 283.
- 1:26:49And he looks at a slider that's low for ball one, one ball no strikes.
- 1:26:59Metzah four runs on a total of four hits, the 12-45s have two runs and seven base hits on Craig. As Craig connects back to the plate, it's low again, ball two, again a slider.
- 1:27:12Two balls and no strikes.
- 1:27:25Craig now throwing the first base but Dillis just a step away gets back easily.
- 1:27:34Craig now back to the plate and again low with a breaking pitch for three balls and no strikes.
- 1:27:39So Roger has walked two in the game now three and all to Alex Bangler.
- 1:27:51Craig now has the scores of all the other major league games before you're at the end of the inning.
- 1:27:56There's a fastball that's through for strike one.
- 1:28:06Three balls and one strike.
- 1:28:11And Craig now back on top and back to the plate, low again at ball four.
- 1:28:16And that's a side run on his first base and this time it goes down to first on Roger Craig's third walk of the game.
- 1:28:24Bob Dole moves down to second base and Ramon Mejia steps into the batter's box.
- 1:28:40Mejia picks up the first hit of the game off Roger Craig in the first inning. He stole second base but was forced out at third base as Carl Wolwick ends the inning.
- 1:28:51Then in the third inning Mejia's grounded to the shortstop so he has one for two.
- 1:28:56That is 287 with 23 home runs and 68 runs batted in.
- 1:29:05Roger Craig with his first pitch to the right hand batter outside, low for ball one, the curveball way outside.
- 1:29:12And Craig now behind one and all to Mejia.
- 1:29:16All in throwing in the both end portament as they lead in the game four to two.
- 1:29:29Craig into the stretch position and back with the one pitch, one-oh pitch, it's on first site.
- 1:29:35Curveball breaking over the outside corner, one ball, one strike.
- 1:29:46Enfield back looking for the double play with one man out.
- 1:29:51Butters at first through second base.
- 1:29:57Now Craig again back to the plate with a fastball popped off of the hands and foul territory.
- 1:30:02Candidate Gerald tries to get to the ball but it wasn't high enough in the air to allow him to get to it.
- 1:30:07It'll go a strike two. Three balls and one strike.
- 1:30:14And Craig now back on top and back to the plate.
- 1:30:17Low again at ball four. That puts the sign run on at first base.
- 1:30:27Bob Doris moves down to second base and Ramon Mejia steps into the batter's box.
- 1:30:43Mejia picked up the first hit of the game off Roger Craig in the first inning.
- 1:30:47He's still in second base but with four outs at third base as Carl Warwick ends up the inning.
- 1:30:54In the third inning Mejia's rounded to the shortstop so he has one for two.
- 1:30:59That is 287 with 23 home runs and 68 runs battered in.
- 1:31:08And Roger Craig with his first pitch to the right hand batter outside. Low for ball one.
- 1:31:13A curveball way outside. And Craig now behind one and all or two by his.
- 1:31:20All on throwing into both end for the best as they lead him again four to two.
- 1:31:33Craig into the stretch position and back with the one hit. One home pitch. It's on for a strike.
- 1:31:39Curveball breaking over the outside corner. One ball, one strike.
- 1:31:50Enfield back looking for the double play with one man out.
- 1:31:54Curveball way outside. And Craig now behind one and all or two by his.
- 1:32:01All on throwing into both end for the best as they lead him again four to two.
- 1:32:14Craig into the stretch position and back with the one pitch. One home pitch. It's on for a strike.
- 1:32:20Curveball breaking over the outside corner. One ball, one strike.
- 1:32:30Enfield back looking for the double play with one man out.
- 1:32:36Butters at first and second base.
- 1:32:42Now Craig again back to the plate with a fastball tossed off of the hands in foul territory.
- 1:32:47Then the goalie tries to get to the ball but it wasn't high enough in the air to allow him to get to it.
- 1:32:52That was all a strike zero. On the count now, one ball and two strikes.
- 1:32:56Roger Craig asking for the ball that was fouled off to be put back in play.
- 1:33:01So Kenneth Carroll goes back, pitch it up, toss it to Al Barney.
- 1:33:05Al looks at it and puts it back in play.
- 1:33:09So Roger Craig will be working with the same ball.
- 1:33:14Well pitchers like to feel a certain ball. Of course they like to keep the ball in play if that's the case.
- 1:33:19Some feel a little bit smaller and also some are not quite as slippery as others.
- 1:33:24Roger likes to work with a very rough fastball.
- 1:33:29Throwing a lot of breaking pitches and also throwing the screwball after the fastball action.
- 1:33:37Now it's one and two as Craig catches the mound and comes back with a curve that is low outside.
- 1:33:41Two balls and two strikes.
- 1:33:51And that's the second base. Al Spangler at first.
- 1:33:54And Roman Mejiazadeh. All men run well.
- 1:34:03Two balls and two strikes as Craig throws a curve again and swing it on this for strike three.
- 1:34:08So Roger picks up a big strikeout and starts the game for out number two.
- 1:34:13And now coming on Dave Roberts.
- 1:34:16Dave Roberts came in the game as a pitch hitter for Norm Larkin who started the game.
- 1:34:21Larkin went out because of a bruised instep on his left foot as a result of a foul ball.
- 1:34:26Roberts is first time up off break.
- 1:34:29Round it out to first base.
- 1:34:31Now batting from the left hand side for the second guy.
- 1:34:41Two men out. Larkin is at first to the second.
- 1:34:44He's going to go for the two in favor of the left and the first pitch to Roberts.
- 1:34:47A curve that's outside for ball one.
- 1:34:57Roger on this warm easy has thrown quite a few pitches.
- 1:35:02In the first game, Jay Hook started the game and was taken out.
- 1:35:06After six innings when he went out of the game he left two nothing.
- 1:35:13Right now back to work and the one-oh pitch to Roberts.
- 1:35:16A curve that's again outside.
- 1:35:18Ball two has thrown to second base too late.
- 1:35:21Back in ahead of the throw Bob Lillard.
- 1:35:26After Hook went out of the game in the first game the Colts started up at two-two.
- 1:35:30The Mets picked a lead in the top of the ninth three to two.
- 1:35:33And then Larkin won the Colts score two in the bottom half of the ninth to win the game four to three.
- 1:35:45Craig now back on top and back to the plate.
- 1:35:48A curve ball that's thrown on and filed down the dirt.
- 1:35:51Outgoing the two balls in one strike.
- 1:36:02The Mets will close out the season here in Houston with the Colts 45.
- 1:36:07With a day game tomorrow.
- 1:36:08Game time in New York will be a 3.55.
- 1:36:11It'll be Bob Brute right hand curve ball with a record of nine wins and eight losses against Craig Anderson.
- 1:36:18Anderson has won three and lost 17.
- 1:36:20He picked up his 17th loss in the first game here today.
- 1:36:30Game time in New York is 5.55.
- 1:36:33Dan's record is 3.55 here.
- 1:36:355.55 in New York.
- 1:36:38And there's the next pitch to Roberts outside.
- 1:36:40A curve ball.

- 1:36:49Game tomorrow will be on Radio MTV.
- 1:37:01Three balls in one strike.
- 1:37:02Craig looking for the shine now sets on the mound.
- 1:37:05Runners at first and second.
- 1:37:07And the pitch back is a curve ball hit high in the air.
- 1:37:09The center field.
- 1:37:10Jim Hittman moving in now waiting.
- 1:37:14And he makes the catch to retire the side.
- 1:37:17In the end he has no runs on one hit.
- 1:37:20No errors.
- 1:37:21A walk and two man left on.
- 1:37:22And the score at the end of four and he's a play.
- 1:37:25A New York mid-four.
- 1:37:26The Coke 45-2.
- 1:37:29Now once again here's Bob Murphy to tell you about Milwaukee and Cincinnati and bring you up to date on the score.
- 1:37:35All right, Ralph.
- 1:37:36The Milwaukee Braves will be in New York Monday night for their final offense of the season in the Polo Grounds.
- 1:37:43And before the game on Monday night, to add to the enjoyment of the evening, there will be field events.
- 1:37:49Those of you planning to attend the game on Monday night, I hope you're planning to come early so you won't miss any of the pregame activities.
- 1:37:55Number two, if you're driving in, the Yankee Stadium parking facilities will be available.
- 1:38:00One of the parking locations in and around the Polo Grounds.
- 1:38:04Wheelbarrow contest, the coaches line fold, fun around them and trying to locate home plate.
- 1:38:10A fun-go-hitting contest, catcher's accuracy throwing contest, and relay throwing accuracy contest.
- 1:38:16That's on Monday night with the Braves in town.
- 1:38:19In other games, the Phillies beat the Braves 6-4.
- 1:38:23McClase winning his tenth in relief, loser Bob Henley.
- 1:38:26The Giants beat the Cubs 7-2.
- 1:38:28Pierce the winner, he's now 14-5.
- 1:38:31Cardwell the loser.
- 1:38:33We're in the sixth inning with New York leading 4-2.
- 1:38:36Round comes the arm from Thurl, a swing and a miss, he's throwing him a bird's pitch.
- 1:38:41Rod went right after him, he's counted even at one ball, one strike.
- 1:38:55Bayfists are all even in the game, each team with seven, New York with a two-run lead.
- 1:39:00Powerball back into the screen, one ball and two strikes on Rod Canille.
- 1:39:13Rod Canille and Jim Hickman, both rookies, have now both been up over 300 times this year.
- 1:39:18They've seen a lot of action.
- 1:39:31One-two delivery, powerball back into the screen, no play.
- 1:39:40Triggy Lavagento did a good job of scouting the West Coast last season for the New York Mets.
- 1:39:49Keeping an eye out for possible draft choices in the expansion.
- 1:39:55Jim Hickman may turn out to be a real find for the New York Mets.
- 1:40:05Now Christopher Dakin's radar on first, the one-two pitch by Thurl, strike called, a blazer on the outside corner and Canille is called out.
- 1:40:14That's the cover of the strike out of the game for Thurl.
- 1:40:17The first strike out of the game for Thurl.
- 1:40:33That is Chris Cannazero hitting against Thurl with two down and Christopher on first.
- 1:40:38We're in the top of the sixth inning, four to two ball game, New York leading.
- 1:40:42Chris Singleton right center field his first time, helping with Truck County's second trip.
- 1:40:47Here's the pitch by Thurl, a swing and a miss on a little half-ass ball, strike one.
- 1:41:07Dave Roberts holding against the runner at first base.
- 1:41:10Down comes the pitch, a swing and a miss, strike two.
- 1:41:14I'll bet Cannazero is going to lose eight or nine pounds while catching this ball game.
- 1:41:19It is true that the weather is so hot, it's only 81 degrees, which the Texans say is a cold wave for this time of the year.
- 1:41:25But the humidity has been extremely high.
- 1:41:28Jay Hook, six sixth innings for the opening ball game and lost nine pounds.
- 1:41:41Now the pitcher on the way, a line drive into center field, a face hit.
- 1:41:45Christopher, a last second, he's going on to third, he was running on to fifth.
- 1:41:49Runners down on first and third as Cannazero hangs up his second hit of the game.
- 1:41:54And he really banged that one, a hard liner into center.
- 1:41:58Right here while we wait for Roger Gray to come out of here.
- 1:42:01Will Fogg for patient identification.
- 1:42:05Time 11 56, you've got the news five minutes sooner on WABC New York, temperature 64 degrees.
- 1:42:12Now's the time to come up to the Men's All Magic at Tour.
- 1:42:25From Cole Stadium in Houston, this is Bob Murphy with Lindsey Nelson and Ralph Cantor.
- 1:42:30We're in the top of the sixth inning.
- 1:42:32Men's All runners at the corner for two men down.
- 1:42:35Roger, one hit and two downs up, he got a single to right field his first time up tonight.
- 1:42:45Here's the pitch on the way, we're going to miss, rank one.
- 1:42:48These hips have been hard to come by throughout the year for Roger.
- 1:42:53He has four for the season.
- 1:42:56Now they get Bobby Tepa now up and throwing again on the Houston bullpen.
- 1:43:07Here's the pitch, right in there, fastball for a strike.
- 1:43:12Two strikes count on Roger Gray.
- 1:43:27Now the two strike delivery.
- 1:43:31Outside a little delayed field by Canna Zerr, no thrill is made for him.
- 1:43:35The paint goes back to the mound where it's taken by Kurt Svahle, he has no play as third.
- 1:43:40Good execution on the delayed field by Chris Canna Zerr.
- 1:43:48Canna Zerr waited until the ball just was hitting into the catcher's mitt before he broke.
- 1:43:53And he got the Cole 45 by surprise, they made no attempt at all to get him.
- 1:43:58So the match for Canna Zerr, runners on second and third now.
- 1:44:02Count one and two on Roger Gray.
- 1:44:07Zerr off the stretch, and the fifth throw is going to have for a 12-1st strike.
- 1:44:13And that's the eighth strikeout in six innings for Kurt Zerr.
- 1:44:17No runs, two hits.
- 1:44:19No errors, two left on.
- 1:44:21Must have had five left over six innings, but at the end of five and a half innings,
- 1:44:25the score here in Houston, the New York must four and the Houston Cole 45's two.
- 1:44:31And now a word from dual figure eight.
- 1:44:34Are you thinking of changing to a men's ball cigarette?
- 1:44:36Well, don't make a disappointment change.
- 1:44:38Make the right change.
- 1:44:40Come up to cool.
- 1:44:41Here's why.
- 1:44:42Cool comes through for you.
- 1:45:08Enjoy the extra cool that you feel in your throat when you smoke cool.
- 1:45:26Enjoy that bright, clear taste all day long.
- 1:45:29Come up to cool.
- 1:45:30Cool with the pure white filter or cool without filter.
- 1:45:35In the last of the sixth inning, the leader off the left of the Houston Cole 45's will be Joya Malpatano.
- 1:45:47A warm-up action has been decided in the Houston Bowl Fin, although the pitcher is scheduled up next.
- 1:45:55Malpatano has slid to left for a stretch out.
- 1:45:58Joya is over two in the game.
- 1:46:02Malpatano hitting a 232, back right-hander.
- 1:46:07That's slams straight away in the infield, straight away in the outfield.
- 1:46:11It's thrown by Craig Grouter.
- 1:46:13It's a short.
- 1:46:14Quick half played by Elio, the fake deferred in time.
- 1:46:17Malpatano a race to Elio Sikun, the Mars Rundyre.
- 1:46:25Went away and nobody on now and the pitcher is scheduled up and he'll be hitting.
- 1:46:29Perl has real good power, but he can get ahold of one.
- 1:46:33He hit a hard line drive over Neil's head for a solid facet in the second inning and he flied to left field in the fourth inning.
- 1:46:41So he has one hit in two times.
- 1:46:43The pinhand number 43, Dick Perl.
- 1:46:59Perl hitting a right-hander.
- 1:47:01That's a high fly in the east of left field.
- 1:47:14Dick Perl hitting a high fly that was well hit.
- 1:47:35Landing in the left field, the drive of about 390 feet, his second home run of the year.
- 1:47:42Now it is a four to three ball game.
- 1:47:48This lead flies to a single run on the home run by pitcher Dick Perl.
- 1:47:52He has a lot of power when he meets one.
- 1:47:55Bob Millison takes outside at ball one.
- 1:48:07Next pitch by Roger Craig, a snake on the ground towards second. Field is back to Neil.
- 1:48:12He takes to Droneberry, getting Bobby Lillis two down.
- 1:48:17Down in the last half of the sixth inning and the hitter will be Al Sanger.
- 1:48:42Now the left fielder, Al Sanger, a smash on the ground to second.
- 1:48:54It will be an error charge to Rod Kniell.
- 1:48:57That one went right through Rod's wicket.
- 1:49:00Through the wicket and into right field for an error charge to Rod Kniell.
- 1:49:10And as the man said, that's why they put a racer on the fence.
- 1:49:18Now here's Ramon Mejia, the right fielder, batting third in the order he has.
- 1:49:22One hit and three times.
- 1:49:25He's been a leading power hitter throughout the year with the Houston Gold 45.
- 1:49:35Now Mejia's waiting. Here's the pitch.
- 1:49:37And he pops the ball up. An infield box fly on the right side.
- 1:49:41Rod Kniell calling for it near the mound.
- 1:49:43Drops the ball.
- 1:49:45For the first, the snake.
- 1:49:48Field is back to Neil.
- 1:49:51Neil comes back in safely.
- 1:50:04Another charge to Rod Kniell.
- 1:50:07A high, what appeared to be easy infield box fly.
- 1:50:11Rod moving in towards the mound.
- 1:50:13It was underwritten, lo and behold, it popped right out of his glove.
- 1:50:16Now Canada's Earl goes out to talk to Roger Craig for a minute so they don't let it bother you.
- 1:50:23Dave Roberts will be coming up.
- 1:50:25Roberts will be hitting for the third time.
- 1:50:27He has grounded out to Throneberry and flying to center.
- 1:50:33These fans hurt the Mets in the afternoon ball game.
- 1:50:36They were guilty of five errors, including one on the ninth inning that won the game for the Houston Gold 45.
- 1:50:44Now Craig working under adverse conditions, runners on first and third.
- 1:50:49Two men down. The batter is a left-hand hitter, Dave Roberts.
- 1:50:53Two infield errors and the guns and runners at first and third.
- 1:50:57Here's the pitch.
- 1:50:59Popped foul over towards the dugout. Canada's Earl hoping for a play, running hard.
- 1:51:03And he stumbled over the bat boy and fell.
- 1:51:07And let's see how this one is called.
- 1:51:10He may be called out.
- 1:51:12He will be.
- 1:51:14The bat boy, crossed near the on-deck circle by the on-deck hitter, Carl Warwick,
- 1:51:19failed to get out of the way of this Canada's Earl.
- 1:51:22And Canada's Earl, with his eye on the ball and running towards the field boxes,
- 1:51:26stumbled over the leg of the bat boy and fell and the ball landed just a few feet beyond Canada's Earl.
- 1:51:33And so, Roberts is out on the play, gives Canada's Earl credit for a put-out.
- 1:51:41The side is retired in the sixth inning with no runs, no hits.
- 1:51:46Two errors and two left on.
- 1:51:49So now at the end of sixth the score, the New York Mets four and the Houston Colts 45-three.
- 1:52:00All right, Bob, thank you very much.
- 1:52:03Kirk Farrell, taking his warm-up tosses now.
- 1:52:09Here's a special event that's going to take place at the Polo Grounds during the Mets last homestand
- 1:52:13that you won't want to miss on Sunday, September 16th during pregame ceremonies
- 1:52:18against the 1961 National League Champion, Cincinnati Reds.
- 1:52:22FOHAC Supermarkets and King Corn Stamps will present a fully equipped Daytona Lyke automobile
- 1:52:28to the most popular Mets player.
- 1:52:30On that day there will also be 2,000 guests of FOHAC at the Polo Grounds,
- 1:52:35one of whom also will receive a fully equipped Daytona Lyke.
- 1:52:39So remember the date, Sunday, September 16th, FOHAC Day.
- 1:52:43Tickets for this game and all three two games and how on sale at the Polo Grounds,
- 1:52:47Grand Central Station and Pennsylvania Station.
- 1:52:50Reservations may also be made at all, how it closed doors.
- 1:52:55Elio Chacon is at the plate and the first pitch is in there for a call, strike one.
- 1:53:12And the pitch end is blown away for a ball, it's one and one.
- 1:53:25Chacon is one for two on a walk.
- 1:53:30Pitch comes in high and it's two balls and one strike.
- 1:53:33Now it's from that shortstop.
- 1:53:37In the afternoon game it was the Mets bad boy who very nearly was involved in a collision
- 1:53:42on a high pass but he escaped and just now the Houston Colt 45 bad boy was involved.
- 1:53:48Here's a pitch in there for a call, strike, it's two and two.
- 1:53:54And because of the interference of course the odd was called and the put out is given to the catcher.
- 1:54:00Chacon in and waiting for the two-two pitch.
- 1:54:16The Mets leading here by a score of four to three in the top half of the seventh inning.
- 1:54:20The Colt 45s won this afternoon's game by a score of four to three.
- 1:54:24Here's a swing and it's a base hit going up the middle for Elio Chacon.
- 1:54:28Now Warwick up for it as he lays it in and Chacon turns and holds it first.
- 1:54:35Elio has two base hits in tonight's game and here comes Charlie Neal who also has two.
- 1:54:40He had a single to drive in two runs in the top of the third and he had a single in the top of the fifth as well.
- 1:54:48Against the Houston Colt 45s this season.
- 1:54:53Charlie Neal has been up 34 times and has 14 hits so he is batting 412 against the Houston Colt 45s.
- 1:55:00He's a native Texan from Longview.
- 1:55:04Good shot but nothing was on so it goes as far one to Charlie Neal.
- 1:55:13Elio Chacon Woodling is now on deck for the New York Mets.
- 1:55:25It's up and under the stretch.
- 1:55:26Chacon leads it first and here's the pitch to Neal.
- 1:55:28It's a high hopper down the third base line taken by the catcher and the throw on the first.
- 1:55:33Not in time.
- 1:55:34He's safe and Neal and Chacon holds it second.
- 1:55:36Al Smith out there to make the play on the ball.
- 1:55:38He's wheeled in through the first but not in time to get Neal as he's beaten out for another base hit.
- 1:55:43Chacon holding at second base.
- 1:56:00So the Mets have back to back base hit.
- 1:56:02Tiefenauer is up and throwing in the bullpen.
- 1:56:09Right hander and knuckle baller Bob Tiefenauer warming up for the Colt 45s.
- 1:56:10Here's Gene Woodling at the play to lift and better who has popped out and walked flat out to center field.
- 1:56:14Runners leading at first and second base.
- 1:56:17Third barrel with the pitch swung on and it's a high pop in the short center field.
- 1:56:21Coming in is Carl Warwick.
- 1:56:23He's underneath and he's waiting and he makes the catch for the out.
- 1:56:26There's no advance.
- 1:56:28He's gone away on Woodling's fly ball to center and Meyer Thornberry is coming up.
- 1:56:32Meyer Thornberry sliced the base hit into left field with the base hit loaded and the top half of the third to account for two of the four runs that the Mets scored in the top of the third.
- 1:56:43The Mets got all four of their runs in the top of the third and they lead here by a score of 4-3.
- 1:56:51You know now is the time to sit back, relax and light up a cool cigarette.
- 1:57:03Chacon leads at second.
- 1:57:05Charlie Neal leads at first.
- 1:57:08Here's a throw to second and he's on at second base.
- 1:57:11They've got Chacon.
- 1:57:12Chacon has been picked off as Bob Lillings, Detroit's not got his behind us.
- 1:57:19So the pickoff goes one-sixth.
- 1:57:26Two away, Neal at second.
- 1:57:39So that takes the pressure off Torek Farrell right here.
- 1:57:49Now Meyer Thornberry standing in and waiting left hand batter. Here's the pitch, it's tight for ball one.
- 1:58:12And Bob Miller is throwing in the bullpen for the Mets. It's a swing and a miss. One-and-one count to Thornberry.
- 1:58:20Rick Herscher also is throwing to Sammy Taylor in the bullpen.
- 1:58:32Charlie Neal standing on the bag at first.
- 1:58:36Now takes his lead and Farrell's pitch to Thornberry is hung on and fouled off out of play. It's one-and-two.
- 1:58:47Final game of the series tomorrow and it will be the final appearance of the New York Mets here in Houston, Texas this season.
- 1:58:56We'll be on the air at 5.55 p.m. New York time. Game time is 6 p.m. New York time. That's 4 p.m. Houston time.
- 1:59:10Thornberry waits for the one-two pitch, takes it outside for ball two. It's two-and-two.
- 1:59:22The Houston Colts 45s won this afternoon's game by a score of four to three by scoring two runs with two men out in the bottom half of the ninth inning.
- 1:59:33Back to project a little further. There were two strikes on the batter.
- 1:59:38The swing and a miss and Farrell shocks up his ninth strikeout, hitting Meyer Thornberry in the top half of the seventh. The New York Mets got no runs on one hit, two hits by Vagie Rapport.
- 1:59:52No errors and one left. At the end, the six-and-a-half inning to play the tour is the New York Mets four and the Houston Colts 45s three.
- 2:00:00And now, here's a familiar tune well worth marching to.
- 2:00:30Musicians play it, people say it. My beer is Rhine Gold, the dry beer, and dry tells you why.
- 2:00:44Yes sir, dry tells you Rhine Gold has a crisp, bright, clean taste all at once. Discover the difference dry makes.
- 2:00:52Give yourself a tall, refreshing glass of Rhine Gold extra dry. Enjoy it along with the ball game.
- 2:01:01Now for the New York Mets, Rick Hersher has gone into left field in place of Gene Woodley.
- 2:01:16If you're keeping a scorecard, Hersher will bat third in place of Gene Woodley.
- 2:01:22As we go to the bottom half of the seventh inning now, the Colts 45s have Carl Warwick at the place, right hand batter.
- 2:01:34Roger Craig, bending from the waist, looking into the side. He has it into the windup and the pitch is on the way. It's swung out and fouled out. Carl Warwick swung for a few minutes in the major leagues who throws left and bats right.
- 2:02:03And Roger Craig works the pitch and it's inside. Football, it's one and one.
- 2:02:10The official paid attendance here tonight, 6,568. Total attendance in the ballpark, 7,678.
- 2:02:20There's a pitch, low and outside and coming all the way back to the screen. It's two balls and one strike.
- 2:02:38The pitchers Larry Klaus and Galen Sisco have joined the New York Mets. They are here and in uniform tonight. There's a pitch, low for ball, it's three and one. Sherman Jones has been here in uniform for this entire series.
- 2:02:58The 3-1 pitch. Blowing away any walkie-talkie.
- 2:03:03The Colts 45s open up. The bottom half of the 7, getting Carl Warwick on it first. He represents potential tie run coming up is Bob Aspermante. Two for three tonight, which is based hit.
- 2:03:19That enabled the Colts 45s to win in the bottom half of the ninth this afternoon.
- 2:03:29Craig now up and into the stretch as Warwick leads it first and here's the pitch. It's in there for a call strike.
- 2:03:35I've found very charging at first base as was Charlie Neal at third in anticipation of a bonnet jump, but he did not square.
- 2:03:50Lamarris coaching at third, running the strategy department of the Houston Colts 45s. There's a pitch out. Nothing might be on it, but it's one and one.
- 2:04:10Again, Roger Craig is up and into the stretch. Throw over. One-one. Perhaps you heard the announcement in the background that tomorrow it'll be Bob Bruce going for Colts 45s against Craig Anderson in the New York Mets.
- 2:04:26There's a pitch high. Two and one. Craig Anderson came on this afternoon to pitch tonight, and again, was the losing pitcher in the afternoon game.
- 2:04:46Craig again is looking for the signs. Now wants to start the series all over again. Now he has the signs. There's a throw over. Warwick strikes safely.
- 2:05:05Breaking ball swung on as he flies to center. Land up to Jim Hickman and he makes the catch. Halfway on the fly ball, the center car, Warwick returns to the baguette first.
- 2:05:16One away and catcher Hal Smith's coming up. Topped out the first walk and fly to center. Jim Hickman has six put-out in center field.
- 2:05:35Right hand batter. Got a home run this afternoon. Throw over. Warwick's back safely.
- 2:05:52Roger Craig is not reluctant about throwing over to first base. Throws over again, not in time. Nor is he bashful about the number of times he will throw over.
- 2:06:03He has 13 pick-ups at the end as a result. Swing and a miss. Out of breaking ball. It's strike one to Hal Smith.
- 2:06:29Fitch is low and away. Billy Goodman is in the on deck circle. Now swinging a bat for the Colt 45s with Joya Mautbatana due up next.
- 2:06:51The Mets lead here by a score of four to three. Colt's batting in the bottom half of the seventh. The Fridge coming high and it's two and one.
- 2:07:09It began to rain early this morning here in Yersin and rained throughout the morning. It rained hard at that. However, there's been no difficulty in getting these two ball games in.
- 2:07:22Craig steps off the river. Warwick shortens up at first base. Throw over, not in time.
- 2:07:41Again a throw over. Warwick back safely. Fitch to the plate this time is low to Hal Smith and it's three and one.
- 2:08:07Craig takes just a moment now before getting ready for the next pitch. Up and into the stretch. Here's a three-one pitch. In there for Colt, strike two. It's three-two.
- 2:08:23One man out. Warwick the runner at first base. Warwick leads now. Throw over. He's back safely.
- 2:08:48He takes his lead. He's running. Fitch is swung on and popped up down toward third. Canizero now has called and Chris Canizero makes the catch in foul territory with Neil Wright there. Roger Craig making the call.
- 2:09:02No advance work. Back to the bag at first. Two men out and Billy Goodman is coming up to bat for Joya Malfasana. Here's the announcement.
- 2:09:18Goodman left hand batter, one-time batting champion of the American League. Last year with the Chicago White Sox picked up by the Houston Colts 45s as a free agent this year.
- 2:09:33That's four. The Colts 45s three.
- 2:09:55Craig up and into the stretch. Warwick leads at first. Here's the pitch to Goodman. It's low for ball one.
- 2:10:11Again, Craig looks in for his side from Chris Canizero. Has any checks and deals. Fitch is swung on. It's a ground ball foul on the first baseline continuing on down to the bullpen area of the New York Mets.
- 2:10:28One and one to Goodman.
- 2:10:36Richie Ashburn out of action for the New York Mets with a sore shoulder that he injured the opening game of this series when he went across the line on the left to try to field a foul pop.
- 2:10:49Dias ended up in the mud hole down there all over and sustained a bruised shoulder that has him out of action. Can't throw.
- 2:11:03Here's a one-one pitch. It's one down and a miss. Strike two. It's one and two.
- 2:11:25Craig's getting a sign. Now the one-two pitch is outside two-two.
- 2:11:39Fitcher Dick Farrell is due up next for the Colt 45. The Turk is trying tonight to become the first Houston Colt 45 pitcher to achieve ten victories. Here's a throw over to first for Warwick's back safely.
- 2:12:04Here's a swing and a drive out and a right spin appears to drop in there for a base hit. Hickman slips down. The ball goes by.
- 2:12:11The rounding period is coming on home now. It's Carl Warwick and he scores at the five ball game.
- 2:12:20Moving on to second base is Billy Goodman. It was a loopy base hit. It's going to be scored as a hit and an error. An error on Hickman.
- 2:12:30He started over to scoop the ball up. He slipped down and it went past him. The score of that as a hit and an error for Billy Goodman.
- 2:12:38And right now in order to allow our stations to identify themselves, we pause for station identification.
- 2:12:47This is WGY connected to your New York Mets station 810 on your radio dial.
- 2:12:59This is Lindsey Nelson with Ralph Tanner and Ralph Murphy at Colt Stadium in Houston, Texas where the Colts have just tied the ballgame 4-4.
- 2:13:07Billy Goodman with a looping base hit out in the center field on which Jim Hickman slips down trying to scoop it up and it goes as a hit and an error.
- 2:13:15And Dirk Farrell is coming up now with two men out. Billy Goodman leads off the bag at second.
- 2:13:28Greg Lick again for a side. And the pitch is low for a ball.
- 2:13:44The Colts scored first in this ballgame and had they got a run in the bottom of the second but in the top of the third the Mets battle back and got four big ones. The Colts got one in the bottom of the third inning. One in the sixth and one in the seventh.
- 2:13:59There's a swing and a ground ball to the right side. It's going to be double for Neil Schach. Schach is over in time for the outs. That retires the side at Dirk Farrell. Drowns out second to first and in the bottom of the seventh. The Colts got one run on one hit.
- 2:14:14One out, one left. And at the end of the seventh full inning to play the score is the New York Mets 4 and the Houston Colts 45-4.
- 2:14:24Well the football season is coming along very soon now and New York City's first major football game of the season will be the game between Army and Syracuse at the Polo Grounds on Saturday, September 29.
- 2:14:37Tickets will go on sale Monday at all Mets ticket outlets for the Army-Syracuse game to be played at the Polo Grounds on Saturday, September 29.
- 2:14:48Now let's check scores of all the games around the major leagues. In the National League, the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Milwaukee Braves 6-4 as McLeish beat Henley. Roy Feaver's got his 20th home run of the season.
- 2:14:59Joe Torre also had a home run. The San Francisco Giants beat the Chicago Cubs 7-2 as Billy Pierce was the winner and on-court role the losers. St. Louis Cardinals beat the Justin Addy Reds 5-4 tonight as Joey J. was the loser and Larry Jackson the winner.
- 2:15:15And at the end of five innings of play now it's the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-6 the Pittsburgh Pirates nothing. Pete Rickards pitching for the Dodgers. McLean started for the Pirates.
- 2:15:24And it starts for Maybin the third and Joe Gebenen the third. In the American League, the New York Aggies defeated the Boston Red Sox 6-1. Whitey Ford over Don Schwal.
- 2:15:33The Chicago White Sox beat Washington 6-3 early win getting the 299th career victory. Rudolph the loser. Minnesota 9, Detroit 2, at fastball with the winner his 18th win and Masi the loser.
- 2:15:46Cleveland 3, Kansas City 2, Lattman the winner, Fister the loser. Los Angeles Angels 2, Baltimore Orioles 1, Bo Bielanski the winner. He's 9-9 now Chuck Estrada the loser.
- 2:15:59Bordercoast 45, Billy Goodman stays in the ballgame at second base. In place of Joia Malfatana for whom he hits.
- 2:16:12The New York Mets here in the top half of the eighth inning will send up Jim Hickman. He is nothing for three tonight.
- 2:16:24Here's a special announcement for all New York Mets fans. Fan appreciation day will be held at the Polo Grounds on Sunday, September 23rd.
- 2:16:31This is the Mets' last home game so listen to this station for further announcements and details next week.
- 2:16:37Fister Hickman swung on, it's a foul ball coming back and it is going into the stand out of play.
- 2:16:43Third baseman Rob Espermonte gave it a run but it's out of play.
- 2:17:02Turd Farrell started still in there. Bordercoast 45's Oluf Givinari has been warming up about three separate times throughout the course of this ballgame.
- 2:17:12Here's a pitch low, it's one and one.
- 2:17:19Joe Christopher is on deck for the Mets betting here in the top half of the eighth inning.
- 2:17:27The pitch is strong on it, the high fly ball deep to the left field, it is sending out Fangler way back there.
- 2:17:34And this one is off the wall. Hickman moves on to second base and holds up there as Fangler was there and so was Carl Warwick.
- 2:17:47But ball bounced against the wall and they played it right off of the wall, in the air and on in.
- 2:17:53Hickman is standing on second with a double as it hit above the head of Al Fangler out there on the wall in left center field.
- 2:18:01So score it as a double for Jim Hickman.
- 2:18:07And that will bring up Joe Christopher scoring side here 4-4.
- 2:18:14That was the 11th hit for the Mets off Dick Farrell in this ballgame.
- 2:18:22Again, knuckleball in about Tiefenauer, he's up and throwing in the bullpen.
- 2:18:27Over the goal, 45.
- 2:18:35Christopher's a right hand batter.
- 2:18:38Farrell is into the stretch, Hickman leads off the bag at second.
- 2:18:41Here's the ball punted, it's up into the air but Farrell can't find the handle as it has a lot of English on it and on it first.
- 2:18:47Christopher, no play made on him as Farrell finally slipped out trying to feel it and it scored as a base hit.
- 2:18:54And trying to buck the ball, Christopher headed up into the air.
- 2:18:57Farrell came over to try to make a play then tried to short hop it and could not control it.
- 2:19:01Had a lot of English on it, skidded away from him and he in turn skidded and tried to get back to make the play on it.
- 2:19:06So Christopher's on it first and Hickman has moved to third on the play.
- 2:19:13Rod Canille will be coming up now for the Mets with runners at first and third, nobody out as the Mets make a bit to push one across.
- 2:19:19Here in the top half of the eighth inning with the scoring side, 4-4.
- 2:19:22That was base hit number 12 for the Mets, off Dick Farrell.
- 2:19:30Billy Goodman has come into the mound now and shortstop Bob Lilich has walked over.
- 2:19:34They're getting straightened out on how they're going to play it here with runners first and third.
- 2:19:40Now Rod Canille is being called back.
- 2:19:45Choo-choo Coleman comes out to the on deck circle.
- 2:19:49Chris Cannadero walks over to say a word to Coach Salihimus at first base.
- 2:19:55Canille goes all the way back into the dugout.
- 2:19:57Choo-choo Coleman swinging back and coming up to bat for Canille.
- 2:20:08The man in the case of Canille has gone to his bench here in an effort to get a run across in the top half of the eighth inning.
- 2:20:34Coleman in and waiting and here's Farrell pitch, run out and foul back and out of play.
- 2:20:38It's strike one.
- 2:20:45Felix Mantia is loosening up down in the bullpen area of the New York Mets now.
- 2:20:56Strike one count to Clarence Choo-choo Coleman.
- 2:21:03Farrell's into the stretch and here's the pitch.
- 2:21:05Swung on and again a high foul ball back and out of play.
- 2:21:12Two strike count to Choo-choo.
- 2:21:24Farrell looks around the outfield, wind blowing out toward left.
- 2:21:35Now the turkey's up and into the stretch.
- 2:21:37Runners lead first and third. The pitch, fastball outside, it's one and two.
- 2:21:57Choo-choo swinging that bat, standing in and waiting.
- 2:22:03Now he steps out of the bat, he's thought, and comes back in.
- 2:22:11Turd Farrell into the stretch.
- 2:22:15Pitch is swung on and it's a fly ball going deep to right field and Mejias, the time, makes the catch back up and coming down the line to score is Jim Hickman.
- 2:22:24And the Mets are out in front here by a score of five to four.
- 2:22:29Foul was hit on the button out in the right field. Mejias skidded a couple of steps just as he got to the ball but managed to control himself enough to make the catch.
- 2:22:37But it was deep enough to score Jim Hickman and that was the idea. So score it as a sacrifice fly and a run better than the Choo-choo Coleman.
- 2:22:44Holding that free space, Joe Christopher and Chris Canazaro is coming up with one man out.
- 2:22:55Mets five and the goal forty-five is four.
- 2:23:03Canazaro is two for three.
- 2:23:09Swings and sends a drive into right field. This is going to fall in for a base hit. Christopher turns it, second digging for third and Mejias overruns the ball.
- 2:23:16Christopher slides into third and the throw-in stretch comes to the plate all the way.
- 2:23:20And on the throw-in Canazaro moves to second. Runners hit second and third. Score that as an error on Mejias.
- 2:23:27Score it as an error on Mejias. A single and an error. Gives the best runners hit second and third with one man out of it.
- 2:23:34Chris Canazaro's third base hit of this game.
- 2:23:39Right to Craig coming out of the dugout nine coming on up here for the Mets.
- 2:23:45Steven Irish still throwing in the bullpen.
- 2:24:04Mets have thirteen hits off Turg Perl. That is the most that he is allowed in a game this season.
- 2:24:15Time call here as coach. Cookie Lobbidge got an edge call. Roger Craig down. Talk to him to see what they're going to do here. There's one man out.
- 2:24:31Jim Umbright is not throwing in the bullpen. Jim Umbright is up and throwing in the bullpen for the Colt 45s.
- 2:24:37There's the pitch to Craig. Swung out and missed. Strike one.
- 2:24:43Colt 45s with the infield in here to try to cut off a run to the plate.
- 2:24:47Christopher's the base runner at third and Canazaro is the base runner at second.
- 2:24:52Roger Craig had a base hit in the third inning of this game.
- 2:25:02Turg Perl working straight away. Lions and Fires pitch out. And it's 1-1. Nothing on.
- 2:25:16The Colt 45s gambling on a pitch out to the Mets just might have a play on. Trying to squeeze a run home perhaps.
- 2:25:23But it didn't turn out that way and it counted one ball and one strike.
- 2:25:30Pitch is swung out. It's a high pop up over the plate. It's in foul territory and not coming back.
- 2:25:34And coming back is Turg Perl Smith. He has a play. Makes the catch and runs it back to the area of home plate to prevent any advance.
- 2:25:41Two way at Craig is fouled out to the catcher. Now Elio Chacon is coming up.
- 2:25:48Runners second and third. Two men out. The Mets five and the Colts four.
- 2:26:03Chacon struck out. Walked. Singled and singled.
- 2:26:08Two for three and a walk in this game.
- 2:26:14Perl again working straight away. And there for Colts strike one.
- 2:26:26We're on the top half of the eighth inning.
- 2:26:34Again the pitch. Check swing ground ball to free space. Taken there by Dave Roberts. Makes the play unassisted to retire the side.
- 2:26:42Elio checks the swing but has got it out up to first base unassisted.
- 2:26:46And the top of the eighth the Mets got one run. On three it was one error and two men left.
- 2:26:54So at the end it's seven and a half innings to play. The score is the New York Mets five and the Houston Colts 45s four.
- 2:27:02Well you know everybody's got favorite. Favorite foods, favorite sports, favorite girls.
- 2:27:08Before the baseball season began everybody had his favorite pick to win the pennants.
- 2:27:13And now all over New York people are talking about their favorite candidate for Miss Ryan Goal 1963.
- 2:27:20Who will next year's Miss Ryan Goal be? Well that's up to you. Your votes will decide the winners.
- 2:27:26So next time you're ordering Ryan Goal Extra Dry at any one of the 45,000 sewers and taverns that sell New York's favorite beer, drop in a voter too for your favorite candidate at the familiar Ryan Goal ballot box.
- 2:27:38No matter who your favorite is, Drew, Chris, Loretta, Beverly, Eileen or Carol, enjoy a glass of Ryan Goal Extra Dry.
- 2:27:49The one beer that year after year has been the chosen favorite of New Yorkers. Have a sip of Ryan Goal's extra clean, bright taste and you'll join the millions who say my beer is Ryan Goal, the dry beer.
- 2:28:05Now for the New York Mets, Felix Mantia is in to play second base.
- 2:28:16Leading off with the cold 45s, top of the batting order, shortstop Bob Lilis.
- 2:28:21Slide to center, double single and grounded out second to first.
- 2:28:34Charlie Gampari on the plate getting his own lineup card straightened out at this moment. Mantia will bat seventh in the batting order of the New York Mets.
- 2:28:48Roger Craig with the pitch, a breaking ball in there for a close strike one to Bob Lilis.
- 2:28:53Opening up the bottom half of the eighth inning.
- 2:29:01Again the pitch, swung on in line out in the left center field in there for a base hit.
- 2:29:07Jim Hickman shook it up, relays it in, turning and holding it first.
- 2:29:11Here's Lilis with his third base hit of the night.
- 2:29:16He represents potential tying run with nobody out, Al Spangler's coming up.
- 2:29:22Slide to right, struck out, walked and was on on Keneel Tera.
- 2:29:29He'll have success either in the bottom half of the sixth inning, one on Spangler and one on Mantia.
- 2:29:46John Berry over for a three forward with Roger Craig.
- 2:30:00Here's the ball running down the first base line. Roger Craig will have to go to first where Mantia covers.
- 2:30:05The doctor bite successfully executed as move Lilis to second. Spangler has gone on one to four for scoring on the doctor bite.
- 2:30:26And now Roman Mejia is coming up as Keneel Tera has gone out to the mound.
- 2:30:34Here's the number of the New York Mets Larry Foss is throwing in the bullpen.
- 2:30:38Larry Foss, recently acquired from the Kyra organization, the attendant Asheville, is warming up in the bullpen.
- 2:30:51Foss is a right-hander.
- 2:30:56Come on Mejia, stand down, waiting. One man out.
- 2:31:06Rookie Dave Roberts is on deck now, the gold 45.
- 2:31:18Craig Jackson deals, pitch is swung on and missed. One and one to Mejia.
- 2:31:33Gold 45 is being run by coaches Lum Harris and Cotdiel and the absence of manager Harry Craft who is bedded with virus.
- 2:31:41Last year when Paul Richards left the Baltimore Orioles before the end of the season Lum Harris took over there as temporary manager.
- 2:31:53Now the one-one pitch swung out in full foul down past Harris. The coaches box it third. One and two to Mejia.
- 2:32:10Craig takes a moment and looks around the outfield. Wind blowing out toward left still whipping the flag.
- 2:32:26Roger looks in for a sign, has one now. Here's the one-two pitch.
- 2:32:32And there's a call strike three. Got him looking. That's for Roger Craig, his fourth strike out of this ball game, a big one.
- 2:32:40So with two men out and the runner in second, Dave Roberts is coming up.
- 2:32:48Roberts came in and placed it to Norm Larker early in the ball game. He has himself been up three times about here. He came up to hit for Larker in the bottom half of the third inning.
- 2:33:02Norm Larker foul the ball off his foot and sustained the bruise as he was out of the ball game. He did that in the first inning.
- 2:33:18Roger Craig into the set position. Here's the pitch for the left-hand better end there for a call strike one. That's five. The goal forty-five is four.
- 2:33:44Bob Lilith leads the second base. Here's the pitch missing outside football. It's one and one. Larry Foster still working in the bullpen for the Mets.
- 2:33:56Parrott had him in spring training with the big club and this season he has been at Asheville and the Sally Leafs, a record of ten and five.
- 2:34:15Now the one-one pitch. Missing the one away and it's two balls and one strike for Dave Roberts.
- 2:34:35Roberts got his first major league hit here tonight before last but double that beat the Pittsburgh Pirates. He waits for the two-one pitch.
- 2:34:45It's on the way. It's one-on and it's in the right field for a base hit charged by Christopher Rodney Curtis-Rubin coming home. There'll be no play on him. He comes to guard Christopher Rodney five-five-five.
- 2:35:09That brings up Carl Warwick as again the goal forty-five is a battle back. Warwick is right-hand batter.
- 2:35:25Taking a third base by Charlie Neely plays on to turn for his first in time. The out that we saw is the side. So in the bottom half of the eighth the goal forty-five is Rod with one run on two hits.
- 2:35:39No errors and one left. So at the end of eight full innings of play the score is the New York Mets five and the Houston goal forty-five.
- 2:35:51On Monday night, that'll be September 10th, the New York Mets will be in town at the Polo ground to take on the Milwaukee Braves.
- 2:35:58They'll be led in by Warren Spahn, Bluebird, that's Joe Raskin, Eddie Matthews and of course Henry Aaron.
- 2:36:05One of the major leagues outstanding performers, the goal forty-fives will be in for their, or rather the Milwaukee Braves will be in for their last appearance of this season.
- 2:36:16And before the ball game on Monday night there will be field events including relay throwing from the outfield for speed, fungo hitting for accuracy, catchers throwing into a barrel at second base and a wheelbarrow contest between the coaches.
- 2:36:32A blindfolded wheelbarrow contest to see which coach is blindfolded and sign home plate. That's on Monday night.
- 2:36:42Say, do you know why Rheingold tastes so good? Well, dry tells you why. It tells you that Rheingold is brewed the long slow cough me away for a flavor that's brisk and bright and clean clear through.
- 2:36:53But why not find that out for yourself? Enjoy a cold glass of Rheingold right now.
- 2:37:09We'll be going out of the top half of the ninth inning and the New York Mets will attend Charlie Neal.
- 2:37:14Charlie is three for four tonight. Against the Houston Golden Forty-Fives this season, Charlie Neal is batting four hundred twenty-nine.
- 2:37:23Fifteen to thirty-five.
- 2:37:32Charlie Neal.
- 2:37:40As Farrell's pitch is swung on and bowled back onto the screen to strike one.
- 2:37:50The Golden Forty-Fives tied it in the bottom of the seventh and the Mets went ahead in the top of the eighth.
- 2:37:55So the Forty-Fives have tied it again in the bottom of the eighth so the Mets will try and see what they can do in the top of the ninth.
- 2:38:02That pitch misses low. It's one and one.
- 2:38:06Charlie Neal had a bases loaded single driving two runs in the top half of the third inning.
- 2:38:20Farrell looking in for his side from Catcher Hal Smith.
- 2:38:28The pitch swung on and has a looping fly ball into right. Roman Mejia moves in underneath.
- 2:38:33He's waiting and he makes the catch for the out.
- 2:38:37One away for the Mets in the top half of the ninth and that will bring up Rick Hersher coming up for his first time in the game.
- 2:38:46And Woodlings started in left field at night for the Mets.
- 2:38:54There's a pitch low and away for ball one. Frank Thomas has not played in the ball game tonight.
- 2:39:10Low and away. It's ball two to Hersher.
- 2:39:16Hersher makes his offseason home in Dallas, Texas.
- 2:39:27There is no more certain way to become unpopular in Houston than to let it be known that you live in Dallas.
- 2:39:33Here's a pitch in there for a foul strike. It's two and one.
- 2:39:48Marv Thornberry is on deck for the Mets. Here's two one pitch. Swung on and missed. Strike two.
- 2:39:58Thornberry has struck out nine in this ball game.
- 2:40:07His season's high is 12 strikeouts. It was a blazing fastball. He's always been pretty well up on the strikeout list.
- 2:40:15Here's two two pitch. Swung on and has a fly ball to right. Roman Mejia still have a long run.
- 2:40:20He's coming out and he has it lined up now underneath and makes the catch.
- 2:40:26O'Neill and Hersher have flied out to me. He has two away and Marv Thornberry coming up.
- 2:40:31He had a bases loaded single and the third driving two runs. Otherwise he gets struck out, popped out and struck out.
- 2:40:38Here's Thornberry.
- 2:40:58Swing and a foul ball back and into the stands out of play. Strike one is to count to Marv Thornberry with Jim Hickman on deck for the Mets.
- 2:41:14Here's a swing and a one-half for Billy Goodman at second. He plays on over to Dave Roberts at first in time.
- 2:41:21That all got the Mets out in order on the top of the ninth with no runs on no hits, no errors and none left. At the end of eight and one-half innings of play the score is New York Mets five and the Houston Colts 45 five.
- 2:41:34Say fans, do you ever feel you were having a curve thrown at you by your cigarettes?
- 2:41:40That brand you were smoking that tasted okay when you first smoked it. Has it ever pulled a change up and begun to taste hot and dry?
- 2:41:48When that happens it's time you made a change, a real change. It's time you came up to cool.
- 2:41:56Tell you something, a lot of smokers have found out. Your cigarettes not tasting cool enough until you come up to cool.
- 2:42:03You know why? It's because Cool's Memdol Magic actually brightens taste. It's refreshing all day through.
- 2:42:11You'll feel extra coolness in your throat all day long. Extra coolness no other cigarette can give you.
- 2:42:18Take it from me, I know. Fans, now is the time to come all the way up to cool. Right now, signal the man with the cigarette tray.
- 2:42:26Get cool filter. Kings are cool without filter. Feel that extra coolness in your throat.
- 2:42:32Before we go to the bottom of the ninth in order to allow our stations to identify themselves, we pause now for station identification.
- 2:42:44This is WGY 810 on your radio dials connected to your New York Med station.
- 2:42:51This is Lindsay Nelson with Ralph Chandler and Bob Murphy. In Houston, Texas, Bob Ascomani is up for the cold 45s.
- 2:42:57Greg Fitch is one run and miss. Strike one.
- 2:43:06In Los Angeles, with the Pirates batting in the top of the seventh, it's the Dodgers six and the Pirates nothing.
- 2:43:11Pete Rickards still going for the Dodgers. Tom Butters is not going for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 2:43:20Here's the pitch one away for ball one. It's one and one.
- 2:43:35Playing at a fly ball to the left. Rick Herscher and Jim Hickman are there and Hickman calls and makes the catch in left center.
- 2:43:46Ascomani has flied out to Hickman three times.
- 2:43:51That's seven put outs for Jim Hickman tonight. One away, nobody on for the cold 45s.
- 2:43:57That breaks up Hal Smith.
- 2:44:08Smith is nothing but three in a walk tonight.
- 2:44:17The swing and a foul ball coming back. Canisaro gives it a run, but this one's in the stands.
- 2:44:24Bill Greeneau has been recalled by cold 45s. He'll be here tomorrow and he'll be eligible to play Jim Campbell in here to finger this afternoon.
- 2:44:34There's a foul tip caught him on the hand and he's going to be out a couple of weeks.
- 2:44:39So, information was received from President Warren Giles of the National League for a renew to be brought up.
- 2:44:51Again, Roger Craig with the pitch. Low on the way, short hop by Canisaro. It's one and one.
- 2:45:00New York Mets five on the Houston cold 45s, five. Bottom half of the ninth inning.
- 2:45:08The pitch is low. It's two and one.
- 2:45:23Here's the two one pitch. Missing outside is three and one. Jim Umbright is up and throwing again in the bullpen for the cold.
- 2:45:49That pitch is low and away and he walked it. So, Hal Smith has drawn a walk. That is the fifth walk given up by Roger Craig.
- 2:45:57Here's the cold 45s of base running here in the bottom of the ninth with one man out. Billy Goodman's coming up.
- 2:46:10Goodman's done up one time. Singled and moved on to second on an arrow by Jim Hickman in center field on the ground ball.
- 2:46:22The pitch is low. It's the whole one. Roger Craig cheering him for a sign.
- 2:46:45To the left hand batter, he's swung on and fouled off. That'll bring Hal Smith back on the swing. He was moving.
- 2:47:00In the afternoon game, the cold 45s came to the bottom half of the ninth inning, trailing by one run and they pulled it out with two runs in the bottom of the ninth, winning four to three.
- 2:47:11Here they're all even, 5-5 in the bottom of the ninth. And that's, of course, now trying to take the game into extra innings.
- 2:47:24Craig steps off the rubber. Stoneberry moves over to the bag. Now, pitch to the plate's run as a fly ball to the left center field.
- 2:47:36Jim Hickman is called and he makes the catch. No advance by Hal Smith. He returns to the bag at first. Eight put outs for Jim Hickman in center field.
- 2:47:52The first pitch for Terk Farrell is due up, but Johnny Temple's got a bat for him here in the bottom half of the ninth inning. Temple batting for Terk Farrell.
- 2:48:13Terk Farrell is out of the ball game, having got nine innings, which he gave up five runs on. Thirteen hits. He struck out nine and he walked two.
- 2:48:24He pulled it in there for a call strike. Two men out the runner at first base. Score tied, 5-5.
- 2:48:44And Craig checks. Here's the pitch for him and it's popped up off the line at third and given a run by Charlie Nail, but his understanding out of play.
- 2:48:55The eight put outs by Jim Hickman in center field tonight has tied the Major League record that was set by Mike Donlon of the New York Giants on October 13th, 1905 and tied by Ed Rausch of the Cincinnati Reds on October 1st, 1919.
- 2:49:18So Jim Hickman has tied that Major League record here tonight with eight put outs in center field.
- 2:49:32That's his little for ball. One and two.
- 2:49:51Johnny Temple in and waiting. Here's the one-two pitch. In there for a call strike. Three. Breaking ball and he took it. So for Roger Craig, that is his fifth strike.
- 2:50:02That gets him out of the inning and we'll be going into extra innings here. The bottom half of the ninth. The goal 45 has got no runs. No hits, no errors and one left.
- 2:50:13So at the end of nine full innings of play, the score is the New York Mets five and the Houston Colts 45.
- 2:50:26Well, the San Francisco Giants won their ball game this afternoon. The Cincinnati Reds have lost their game tonight.
- 2:50:33The Los Angeles Dodgers are leading in their ball game tonight as the National League Pellet Race is really tightened up here as we're in the last month of play.
- 2:50:45The Cincinnati Reds will be at the polo grounds on Friday night, September 14th, Saturday afternoon, September 15th, Sunday afternoon, September 16th.
- 2:50:55It'll be the final appearance of the Cincinnati Reds. They are the defending National League champions making their final trip in the polo grounds. So we hope you'll be on ad.
- 2:51:06We're going to be going here through the top half of the 10th inning.
- 2:51:12And the New York Mets are going to be sending up Jim Hickman, Joe Christopher and Felix Mancia.
- 2:51:25The final game of this series will be played tomorrow afternoon and we'll be on the air at 5.55 p.m. New York time.
- 2:51:32That's later than usual. Starting time is 4 p.m. here in Houston. That's 6 p.m. in New York.
- 2:51:52Jim Umbright has come on out of pitch for the Houston Colts 45.
- 2:51:58Right hander Jim Umbright, one time the property of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 2:52:03Coming out in relief here as Farrell pitched nine and he gave up five runs on 13. It struck out nine and walked two.
- 2:52:10Here's Jim Hickman. He had a double last time up off the left field wall.
- 2:52:14Umbright's pitch. He's in there for a Colts strike.
- 2:52:27Again the big right hander works. Pitch is far and it's a ground ball.
- 2:52:31Field is deep and third by Aspermante. The throw over to first. In time he got him.
- 2:52:36Beautiful fielding play by Aspermante who one handed it.
- 2:52:40And it made the complete pivot all the way around to make the throw on to Dave Robinson first.
- 2:52:45In time to get Jim Hickman. One away for the Mets in the top half of the 10th.
- 2:52:50That's going to bring up Joe Christopher. Jim Umbright last year was with the St. Louis Cardinals and with Charleston in the international league.
- 2:53:04No record with the Cardinals. He won 10 and lost two at Charleston last year.
- 2:53:12Here's the swing and a comeback here to Umbright.
- 2:53:15Throw it on over to first to Robinson. Two away, nobody on. That's going to bring up Felix Mancilla for the Mets.
- 2:53:29Umbright attended the University of Georgia. He graduated with a BS degree. Started as an infielder.
- 2:53:43Mancilla right hand batter. For his first time in the ball game. Takes a call, strike one.
- 2:54:00The Mets five and the Houston Gold 45s five. Blowing away, it's ball one, one and one.
- 2:54:16The games are not likely to be much more closely contested than have been those between the New York Mets and the Gold 45s this season.
- 2:54:27The one-one pitch. Sworn out and missed. He took a ripple at that one.
- 2:54:38Chris Canazaro is on deck for the Mets. Chris has three bases tonight.
- 2:54:44Umbright is pitching with two men out and nobody on. Here's the one-two pitch to Mancilla.
- 2:54:49Two and away, it's two and two. The Mets got four runs in the top half of the third inning on four hits.
- 2:55:00Charlie Neal had a bases loaded two run single. Mara Thornberry had a bases loaded two run single to account for the four runs.
- 2:55:10The Mets got another in the top half of the eighth inning.
- 2:55:14Here's the double. Christopher is single. Here's the swing and a ground ball is short.
- 2:55:20Taken by Willis, he plays on to Robertson. Time for the out.
- 2:55:25So Jim Umbright cuts the side down in order in the top of the tenth with no runs on, no hits, no errors and none left.
- 2:55:31And at the end of nine and one half, any to play, the score is New York Mets five to Houston Gold 45s five.
- 2:55:40It's a good time to enjoy the brisk, bright flavor of Rheingold, but it goes especially well with these wonderful autumn days that are coming up.
- 2:55:50It's a wonderful day. It's called for the wonderful taste of Rheingold Extra Dry, a taste that's brisk and bright and clean, clear through.
- 2:55:59Rheingold is beer if beer should taste and dry tells you why. It tells you that Rheingold is brewed the long, slow, costly way.
- 2:56:08Brewed extra dry to be extra refreshing. So you better stock up now and have plenty of cool, refreshing Rheingold Extra Dry on hand.
- 2:56:17Enjoy those wonderful days with the wonderful beer Rheingold Extra Dry.
- 2:56:31We're going now to the bottom half of the tenth inning. Roger Craig still on the mound for the New York Mets. He's started. He's come all the way.
- 2:56:40The coach will be sending up Bob Lilis, shortstop, who has three hits tonight.
- 2:56:49Given in one run, it's short one himself. Lilis one time the property of the Dodgers. Bunch of all on the first baseline. Strongberry left the field. It can Craig get there ahead of a runner? He cannot. He's safe.
- 2:57:06A perfect pass by Bob Lilis. Strongberry had to play it and then Lilis beat Roger Craig to the bag. So it's a base hit for Lilis, his fourth of the night. Coming here in the bottom half of the tenth inning. He has funded his way on.
- 2:57:26Lilis now seven bases in his last 11 times up. Now Fangler coming up now for the gold 45s. The New York Mets of course have to protect against the likelihood of the sacrifice here with Lilis representing potential winning run on that first base for the gold 45s in the bottom half of the tenth inning.
- 2:57:49From the field here number 21, now Fangler.
- 2:57:56Fangler sacrifice in the bottom half of the eighth. When Lilis got on to open up the eighth, they finally got in a round to tie the game at that point. Here's a throw over.
- 2:58:16Again, it's a stretch. The pitch to the pitch out, and it's all one. Fangler has started squaring around for the sacrifice.
- 2:58:31Brother Charlie Neal way in on the edge of the grass and serves. Strongberry charging on the pitch at first base. It's funded on to first base line. Strongberry takes it. He'll go to first where Mantia covers these out. The sacrifice is executed. Moving Lilis to second base.
- 2:58:53It's three to four for scoring and Roman Mejia coming up.
- 2:59:08It's one for five in this game. Strongberry getting on a big strikeout in the bottom half of the eighth inning. In a situation similar to this.
- 2:59:24Except now we're in the bottom half of the tenth inning with a short tie by five.
- 2:59:40Roger Craig into the stretch and the pitch. Blowing away for ball one.
- 2:59:57Again, Craig looks in for his side.
- 3:00:01And his arrow has been behind the plate all the way tonight.
- 3:00:11The runner throws the first. The runner's advancing now to third. Strongberry's throwback not in time. Chacon takes the throw. Bob Lilis goes off from second to third. Two men out. Brown ball to Neal. Fielded cleanly. He looked at Lilis. Held him there momentarily.
- 3:00:30He fired on the first, but the minute he did, Lilis headed to third. Strongberry's throwback across the mound to Chacon. Covering the back was not in time. Rookie Dave Roberts. Dave Roberts is coming up now.
- 3:00:42He's single to drive in the run in the bottom half of the eighth inning. He's taking a moment to talk to Coach Lum Harris.
- 3:00:59Roberts is heading just outside the batter's box. He's a left-hand batter.
- 3:01:06In Los Angeles, the Dodgers have batted in the bottom half of the eighth, leading the Pirates by a score of six to one.
- 3:01:18The pitch in there for a call strike. Roberts is one for four tonight.
- 3:01:34Lilis leads off the bag at third. Roger Craig works with the windup. And the pitch is low. The ball one. It's one and one.
- 3:01:50That's five on the cold 45. Five in the bottom half of the tenth inning. Here's the one-one pitch. It's in there for a call strike two. Roberts now steps back out of the batter's box, gets a handful of dirt, and comes back in.
- 3:02:09Craig leaning way over to go to the side. And as he does, Roberts backs out of the batter's box.
- 3:02:31Comes back in.
- 3:02:43Now Craig takes a moment. It's the palm of his hand right down on the dirt, wipes his fingertips. Now he's up to work. Here's the one-two pitch. It's inside. It's two and two. The coach with two men out and the runner at third in the bottom of the tenth.
- 3:03:12Dave Roberts is waiting. Swings that button. Here's the pitch. It's outside and it's a full count now to Roberts with Carl Warwick on deck for the cold 45.
- 3:03:40Again, Craig looks in to get his side. Shakes off the side.
- 3:03:55Now again, Roberts is back out of the batter's box. Genozeros started out toward the mound. Takes a couple of steps, stops, and now as Craig waves him back.
- 3:04:10Dave Roberts back in. He's waiting for a payoff pitch. Craig shakes off one side. Another. He's running him all the way around. Now the three-two pitch.
- 3:04:25Oh, it gets by Genozeros. Coming home is Lillis with the run that ends the ballgame. The ballgame is over as the cold 45s have won it. That pitch hit him in the dirt. So it is a wild pitch. It hit him in the dirt.
- 3:04:41A wild pitch that walks better than Dave Roberts, but more importantly, it allows Bob Lillis to come home from third with a winning run and the cold 45s have won the ballgame in the bottom half of the tenth inning.
- 3:04:56They won the afternoon game by getting two runs in the bottom of the ninth. They have won the ninth night game on a wild pitch in the bottom half of the tenth inning thrown by Roger Craig. And so in the bottom half of the tenth inning, two were on when the winning run was scored as a walk was drawn by Dave Roberts.
- 3:05:15We'll be back in a moment with a final summary and totals right now. The final score of this game, the Houston cold 45s sixths the New York Mets five in ten innings.
- 3:05:26Well keep in mind that the Mets will be home at the Polo grounds on Monday night to take on the Milwaukee Braves. And they will be there on September 14th at night, September 16th in the afternoon and September 16th in the afternoon against the Cincinnati Reds. And Monday the 17th is off. The Houston cold 45s will be out on the 18th for a Twineye doubleheader, the 19th for a Twineye doubleheader, and the 20th for an afternoon game.
- 3:05:51And then comes the season ending series at home for the Mets against the Chicago Cubs. Tickets of course now on sale for all of those games.
- 3:06:00Do you ever notice how some ball players are natural? You know, some of the major leaguers through determination and hard work get to be pretty good athletes. But the really great stars, I mean the all-time greats, well they were natural ball players the day they were born.
- 3:06:15Same way with beer. Most beers taste pretty good, but the really great ones, they are natural, like Rheingold Extra Dry. Even before it's brewed, Rheingold is naturally a great beer. Because Rheingold uses only the finest natural ingredients.
- 3:06:32The finest grain, the finest hops, and the purest water in Rheingold Extra Dry. And Rheingold is brewed long and slow. Brewed naturally. Even the sparkle in Rheingold is natural. Yes, Rheingold's natural brewing takes extra time and that costs extra money, but there are no shortcuts to an Extra Dry beer.
- 3:06:53When was the last time you enjoyed the delicious brisk and bright flavor of an Extra Dry beer? When was the last time you enjoyed a Rheingold? Well, here in Houston, the Cope 45s have scored a run on a wild pitch in the bottom half of the 10th inning to defeat the New York Mets by a score of 65 and to tell you something about today's activity here at Rathkeiner.
- 3:07:15Well, Roger Grigg outlasted the starting pitcher for the Cope 45s. Dick Farrell, as Farrell won nine innings, it gave up to Jim Humright. But he could not outlast the Houston Coles team at all as they scored in the 10th inning to win the doubleheaders, winning the first game by a score of 4 to 3 and the second game by a score of 6 to 5.
- 3:07:36Roger went nine and two-thirds innings. That is the second time that he has gone in extra innings this season. In the nine and two-thirds innings, he gave up six runs to last 12 base hits. He struck out five and walked five.
- 3:07:49In the 10th inning, the first man up, Bob Willis, beat out a bunt for a base hit. Roger, a little bit late covering from the pitcher's non, and he was not able to make the play.
- 3:07:58And now Spangler laid out a perfect sacrifice bunt to move Bob Willis over to second base. And when Roman Bahia scrounged out the third, the break of the game came for the Houston Cope 45s, and Bob Willis very alertly went over to third base on the throw to first base.
- 3:08:14As he was on third base, Roger Craig worked to Dave Roberts, who had singled in the time run in the eighth inning, the fifth one for the Cope 45s. He got the count to three and two and gave up all four, which also turned out to be a wild pitch.
- 3:08:28And on the wild pitch, Willis scored from third base with the winning run of the ball game. For the Cope 45s, their 14th extra inning game, the fifth one they have won this year.
- 3:08:38They have lost eight and tied one. The Mets played their 16th extra inning game, and they lost their 12th while winning four. It was also the 53rd one-run game played by the Mets. They have won 16 now and lost 37.
- 3:08:53In the series here at Houston, the Cope 45s have won seven of the eight games played here in Houston. One game remaining, that will be tomorrow. Game time will be at 5.55 New York time. Scheduled to go on that game, Bob Bruce, for the Cope 45s.
- 3:09:08He has a record of nine wins and eight losses against Craig Anderson, who has lost 16 in a row, and he has a record of three and 17.
- 3:09:16At the Polar Grounds, the Cope 45s have a record of two wins and two losses. They'll be coming in for five more games, playing in the Polar Grounds on the 18th, 19th, and 20th.
- 3:09:26The 18th will be a twine-eyed doubleheader, the 19th a twine-eyed doubleheader, and a single-day game on the 20th.
- 3:09:34On the season, the Cope 45s have won nine of the 12 games played so far, and the Mets now on the road have lost their 58th game. They have won 17. They have won 18 while losing 51 at home, and their overall record now, 35 wins and 109 losses.
- 3:09:52For the Cope 45s, they have won the 31st game of the year here in Cope Stadium. They have lost 45 here, and with their old record of 25 and 42, they have an overall record of 55 wins, make it 56 wins and 87 losses.
- 3:10:06Copes have now won six in a row. This is the highest they have ever won in their history, and they have won 11 of their last 14 games.
- 3:10:14The Mets have lost six in a row with their loss here in the second game of the split, a day-night doubleheader.
- 3:10:20That's the story on the first game. The second game, I should say, on the first game, the Copes won it 4-3 when they came from behind to score two runs in the ninth inning to give the loss to Craig Anderson, his 17th of the year.
- 3:10:33The winning pitcher in the first game was Russ Kammerer, his fourth win against two losses. Once again, the final score in the second game, the Copes sixth.
- 3:10:41The Mets five, the winning pitcher Jim Umbrite. He has now a record of two wins and no losses, and losing pitcher Roger Craig has a record of seven wins and 23 losses.
- 3:10:50That's the story right here from Cope Stadium. Don't forget, a game tomorrow, the final game of the season here in Houston between the Mets and the Copes.
- 3:10:58Game time will be at 5.55 New York time, and the game will be both on television and on radio.
- 3:11:06This broadcast came to you through the courtesy of the Liebman Breweries, New York and New Jersey, and Brown and Williamson Tobacco Corporation.
- 3:11:14Right now, I'd like to remind you to enjoy fine, cold Rheingold. Rheingold Extra Dry.
- 3:11:21Those two little words, extra dry, tell you why Rheingold is preferred by more New Yorkers than any other beer.
- 3:11:28Enjoy a nice, cold, ice cold glass of good Rheingold Extra Dry. Now this is Ravkan here saying so long for Lindsey Nelson and Bob Murphy, our statistician Joe McDonald, our engineer Joe Kresnicka, our producer Joe Gallagher, and for cool cigarettes.
- 3:11:47You'll feel extra coolness in your throat when you come up to the mental magic of cool. Once again, the final score, the two games here from Houston, the first game won in the daytime by the Colt 45 4-3, the second game won here tonight by the Colt 45 6-5 in 10-8.
- 3:12:06So long everybody, this is the New York Mets Baseball Network.
