- 0:13Speaker 1: No explanation, no point, what the point? So part of
- 0:19Speaker 1: Cosmic Conscious cool.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Hey, I'm name from General Plan uh where indie punk,
- 0:31Speaker 2: hyder rock, grungemand out of Melbourne, Australia. And yeah, we
- 0:34Speaker 2: just released a debut album, Raw on Earth.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Ye had the phename. Thanks for joining us today, brother
- 0:40Speaker 1: you thanks having me my pleasure.
- 0:42Speaker 3: So, as you say, Dent, you're playing the last month
- 0:44Speaker 3: to release your debut album. So how's the early reception
- 0:47Speaker 3: been for it?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been really good. I mean we've uh, we've
- 0:52Speaker 2: gone to do a lot more streams did I expected,
- 0:56Speaker 2: And yeah, people seem to have been digging it like
- 0:58Speaker 2: it's it's could have done what it's needed to do,
- 1:00Speaker 2: which I think is kind of get the word about
- 1:01Speaker 2: the band out there because we've been banding for a
- 1:05Speaker 2: while and it's our first record. So yeah, it's been good,
- 1:09Speaker 2: like yeah, a long time coming, but yeah, I think
- 1:13Speaker 2: people are responding and I'm just looking forward to kind
- 1:16Speaker 2: of getting out and playing some shows to support it.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Really.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Yeah. Now you've got a couple of EPs that have
- 1:22Speaker 3: come out earlier on before this made. But what sorts
- 1:25Speaker 3: of things as the band do you discuss going into
- 1:27Speaker 3: your debut album, Like I said, there'd be a lot
- 1:29Speaker 3: more more process going to just an EP, wouldn't they.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Yeah, well, the first I mean, the first thing we
- 1:35Speaker 2: put out was essentially a demo that we said it
- 1:37Speaker 2: was an EP, you know, and that was like I
- 1:39Speaker 2: think we recorded that before we played the show. The
- 1:42Speaker 2: secret one was just like yeah, a couple of tracks,
- 1:44Speaker 2: and then yeah, the album was sort of more of
- 1:49Speaker 2: a full band thing, like we had two guitarists, you know,
- 1:56Speaker 2: a permanent drummer and Joe and I who started the band,
- 2:01Speaker 2: and so yeah, it was it was kind of like
- 2:03Speaker 2: definitely more of a thought out like what are the
- 2:05Speaker 2: songs we want to have to represent ourselves so far?
- 2:09Speaker 2: So one of the tracks on Their Way Down was
- 2:11Speaker 2: like the first track we ever wrote. We re recorded
- 2:14Speaker 2: that for the record Whole on Me, which he recorded
- 2:18Speaker 2: a video for a couple of years ago. We remixed
- 2:20Speaker 2: to me, mastered that, and the rest of them are
- 2:22Speaker 2: like all new, all new tracks over the last couple
- 2:25Speaker 2: of years. So yeah, it's pretty much just production was bigger,
- 2:31Speaker 2: like we wanted to sound bigger. We wanted to kind
- 2:33Speaker 2: of have like, you know, everything to be there's more
- 2:38Speaker 2: guitar tracks, on the on the album, like I've done
- 2:40Speaker 2: a bunch of additional guitar tracks and yeah, just make
- 2:44Speaker 2: it fuller and bigger and just kind of you're more
- 2:46Speaker 2: of an album. I guess there's more more pressure, I suppose. Yeah,
- 2:51Speaker 2: how you been.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Quote saying that this album is a representation of the
- 2:55Speaker 3: life of the band so far, so you a laborate.
- 2:57Speaker 4: On that a bit for us.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah, so I suppose just what I said where it's
- 3:04Speaker 2: it's kind of like it's got everything from our very
- 3:06Speaker 2: first track to our most recent stuff, and you were
- 3:11Speaker 2: the band is a lot different now than when we started,
- 3:13Speaker 2: like it was just three of us mucking around for
- 3:15Speaker 2: a laugh, and yeah, it's I think it's a good
- 3:18Speaker 2: representation of what we've done so far. And it's kind
- 3:20Speaker 2: of like I'm delayed. It's finally out so we can
- 3:23Speaker 2: kind of support it and move forward and do new
- 3:26Speaker 2: stuff as well.
- 3:26Speaker 3: You know, now you mentioned this before, brother, but there's
- 3:30Speaker 3: a covered a wide variety of genres on Rhando. You've
- 3:32Speaker 3: got everything from punk to rock, chick brunchy stuff in there.
- 3:35Speaker 3: So how do you find the balance between those genres
- 3:38Speaker 3: in the writing process and how do you know when
- 3:40Speaker 3: you've gone too far with one maybe, or note enough
- 3:42Speaker 3: with another.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I think it's it's honestly just stuff that we like.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Like we all grew up listening it kind of like
- 3:50Speaker 2: and then you know, nineties when an alternative rock and
- 3:54Speaker 2: punk was like it was really big, you know, so
- 3:58Speaker 2: you know, growing up as kids on you know, watching
- 4:00Speaker 2: MTV or whatever and getting super into all that stuff,
- 4:05Speaker 2: and obviously you know, delving further down the path after that.
- 4:08Speaker 2: But I think it's just honestly stuff we like. Like
- 4:10Speaker 2: I'll just sit down and play play a song, and
- 4:13Speaker 2: if I think it's a good song, I don't really
- 4:15Speaker 2: care too much about what the genre is. Like if
- 4:18Speaker 2: I'm pissed off or something and feel in a certain way,
- 4:20Speaker 2: I might write a song like hole in Me, or
- 4:22Speaker 2: if I want something to do, like it's something a
- 4:25Speaker 2: bit more melodic, or do something like Can't Get what
- 4:27Speaker 2: You Want. But I think all the themes honestly are
- 4:30Speaker 2: pretty dark. Like even if the songs are I'm kind
- 4:34Speaker 2: of like happy, the lyrics are actually pretty pretty dark stuff,
- 4:38Speaker 2: you know. So I think that it sort of ties
- 4:41Speaker 2: it all together that it's not really an upbeat, have
- 4:46Speaker 2: a party sort of sort of band, but yeah, we
- 4:49Speaker 2: do comes a few genres.
- 4:51Speaker 3: I think, Yeah, I am so you guys fall back
- 4:56Speaker 3: in two thousand and eight in mate, like we've got
- 4:58Speaker 3: over your music a little bit, but what sorts of things.
- 5:00Speaker 3: I guess if you learn about the band and your
- 5:03Speaker 3: music in general since you started to an hour.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Well, I think it's just always playing to our strengths.
- 5:10Speaker 2: You know, I always wanted to seck and guitarists, and
- 5:14Speaker 2: I think now, I honestly think it's only been probably
- 5:16Speaker 2: the last six months to a year that we've really
- 5:19Speaker 2: been the band that we want to be live. I think,
- 5:23Speaker 2: you know, it took us a long time going to
- 5:24Speaker 2: get a solid lineup into you know, stuff that happened
- 5:27Speaker 2: over the plague or whatever just set things back a
- 5:30Speaker 2: few years, and and then yeah, I think that we
- 5:34Speaker 2: just now we're at a point where we've got a
- 5:36Speaker 2: record we're happy with and we're we're performing. We're the
- 5:41Speaker 2: band that I think that we want to be, and
- 5:43Speaker 2: that it's just taken us a long time to kind
- 5:45Speaker 2: of get there. You know, It's just been a bit
- 5:48Speaker 2: of a journey. But yeah, I think what we've learned
- 5:50Speaker 2: is let's just sea, we rehearse a lot of rehearse
- 5:53Speaker 2: every week, and just having that friendship and that kind
- 5:57Speaker 2: of the outlet of the four of us that we've
- 6:01Speaker 2: made sort of a regular routine and a regular thing
- 6:04Speaker 2: I think really helps us come together and play better
- 6:08Speaker 2: and sort of get more motivated and get stoked about
- 6:10Speaker 2: everything that's happening.
- 6:11Speaker 3: You know, now you touched on before, brother, but you
- 6:15Speaker 3: re recorded a version of the first song that you
- 6:17Speaker 3: ever wrote, called way Down Mate, So a been a
- 6:19Speaker 3: nostalgia point man. But was it Did you make it
- 6:22Speaker 3: different to the original version or did you just keep
- 6:25Speaker 3: it the same?
- 6:26Speaker 2: Yeah, we made it different, Like I just said, it
- 6:27Speaker 2: a couple more guitar parts and just kind of gave
- 6:31Speaker 2: it a bit more flear like this kind of like
- 6:33Speaker 2: a production technique with Dan Anticks, who mixed it. He
- 6:38Speaker 2: also makes the Saints and stuff. He kind of flipped
- 6:42Speaker 2: just a few little sounds and he kind of flipped
- 6:44Speaker 2: like the roof to go backwards, so it sort of
- 6:46Speaker 2: checks in before it goes into the chorus. Just like
- 6:50Speaker 2: little production techniques and vocal and guitar stuff. We have
- 6:54Speaker 2: just made it a lot bigger sounding, Like I listened
- 6:56Speaker 2: to the old one and it's essentially sort of a
- 6:57Speaker 2: demo and the new ones definitely have flished out, so
- 7:01Speaker 2: and I guess the reason we included is because we
- 7:03Speaker 2: played every show and it's one of our most well
- 7:05Speaker 2: known songs. Were like, we may as well, you know,
- 7:08Speaker 2: we're going to probably always play the song. We may
- 7:10Speaker 2: as all put it on a record, you know.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Now, it wouldn't be an album release Broke without some shows.
- 7:15Speaker 3: So tell us what you got coming up and promote it.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Yes, So Saturday August thirty first, we're releasing it in
- 7:21Speaker 2: Melbourne at the Old Bar. We've got a really cool
- 7:25Speaker 2: grun drop band called Snub supporting, and a couple of
- 7:30Speaker 2: hardcool punk bands Krull and Side Splitter. So yes, Olba
- 7:34Speaker 2: thirty first of August, last day, I want to hopefully
- 7:36Speaker 2: for Melbourne and then we're going into We're going to
- 7:41Speaker 2: heat up to Queensland, New South Wales, Adelaide and all
- 7:45Speaker 2: that stuff later in the year. I just going to
- 7:47Speaker 2: find lose those dates. And you were want to do
- 7:49Speaker 2: a proper sort of run you know for the album.
- 7:54Speaker 3: All right, brother, Well, thanks for your time. Neverous bed
- 7:57Speaker 3: the play to speak with you made the yah Boo album.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Guess we're playing called Roar and Lamp. He's out now
