- 0:00Aloha. Saturday morning in Hawaiʻi. I'm Mele with what's happening today across the islands.
- 1:51We're in a wet stretch through Monday. Moist trade winds are pushing frequent showers across all the islands—overnight and early mornings especially hit, and windward mountains are getting soaked. Afternoons still have sun in many spots, but bring rain gear. Small Craft Advisory is in effect around Maui, the Big Island, and Kaiwi Channel, so rough seas through Monday morning if you're on the water. Leeward beaches have better afternoon breaks; west-facing snorkeling works best midday when showers ease.
- 2:16Surf is mixed. Oʻahu's north shore is 5.7 feet and the south shore is 4.8 feet—both moderate, so watch for rip currents. Kauaʻi's Hanalei is running large at 6.6 feet, experienced swimmers and surfers only. Maui and the Big Island are gentler, making them better for casual swimming and snorkeling this weekend.
- 2:32Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park has several closures: Halemaʻumaʻu Trail, part of Byron Ledge Trail, and the Keanakākoʻi side of Kīlauea are off-limits due to volcanic ash and safety risks. Kīpukapuaulu Trail is also closed from fallen trees. The volcano alert level is WATCH, so check current conditions before heading to the Big Island.
- 2:49Aloha Tower's observation deck reopened this week after five years closed, and it's free. If you're exploring downtown Honolulu or weather forces a plan change, check the daily hours before you go—some future work closures are still scheduled. It's a solid addition to a downtown walk when the weather clears.
- 3:04Tuesday and Wednesday dry out nicely with clearer skies—that's when summit trips work best. After that, forecasters are still uncertain whether typical trade winds hold or a stalled system brings more wet weather mid-week.
- 3:15Our Oʻahu beach guide breaks down which north and south shore spots handle current swell better. See you tomorrow.
