- 1:00Well today it's no exception because we have the Jerrell Xavier Austin here in
- 1:06this spaceship with us today. He is a sixteen year old Charleston born and
- 1:11raised Atlanta. Excuse me, Charleston born Atlanta raised Let's be clear, artists,
- 1:15the youngest and seven siblings and the son of local Atlanta actress Selena m
- 1:19Austen and Kareem Alston. Between acting and school, Darell has always prioritized carving
- 1:25a space for himself to practice his performance skills and excel in his studies.
- 1:30Direl works ethic with his craft, is truly distinct that he is constantly hard
- 1:34at work, from self takes to acting and writing classes. Darrell can be
- 1:38most recently seen on BMF Black Mafia Family Season three, which follows the aspiring
- 1:44two legends of two brothers from Detroit, Big Meach and Southwest t Now,
- 1:49without further ado, we're gonna speak more with Jirell. How are you,
- 1:52Darrell? I'm doing good. Thank you for having me on the podcast,
- 1:56of course, Thank you so much for coming. Thank you miss Selina for
- 1:59answering our call to have you on this show. We are like really super
- 2:04excited to speak to you because you really represent everything that for all Nerves is
- 2:07about you are. You're a young black creator, a black leader, and
- 2:10someone who wants to do good in this world. You want you have a
- 2:14craft, you have a passion and you want people to see that. Right.
- 2:17You want to grow in this space. And I've read up a lot
- 2:21about you. You know, I've watched your clips, watch all the stuff
- 2:23that you've done, and I learned that it was your mom who got you
- 2:28and introduce you to acting right, And you know, when when that happens,
- 2:31a lot of times the kids are not sure whether they want to do
- 2:35it, and sometimes it's like, you know, I really love this.
- 2:38Was there a particular project or a script that you worked on or learned where
- 2:42you were like, yo, I really love being an actor. I think
- 2:46it was probably the first time, actually it wasn't a particular script, but
- 2:50it was the first time I had done improv in my acting class, and
- 2:53it was just like I had a lot of fun doing it because it was
- 2:55just I got to explore things that I didn't usually get to explore it.
- 3:00So it was just fun being able to just pretty much do whatever with anything
- 3:06and not be denied about it. And just that was you said, it
- 3:13was improv. Do you remember, like what the prop was, what they
- 3:16made you do. I think one of the games it was this one game
- 3:20called a Driver's Seat where it was four people and the chairs were set up
- 3:24like get her inside of a car and then and as soon as somebody would
- 3:29enter the car, they would you have to change. Everybody in the car
- 3:31would have to change in that emotion. That was just really fun to me.
- 3:35Oh that's really cool. I like that and it kind of keeps you
- 3:38on your feet, right. Improv is a game but also a learning tool
- 3:42as an actor that you teach yourself how to be dynamic and be able to
- 3:46move within any situation, any environment. Right, And that is clear and
- 3:54your body of worked thus far, Like even though you're young, you've done
- 3:58some very notable, some heavy work, Like I know you were in the
- 4:00Aretha Franklin biopic, respect you were in the Crowded Room, which was led
- 4:05by Tom Holland. Like you're already on an incredible path with diverse roles.
- 4:11And because of that, I was just like, Wow, you're doing a
- 4:15lot of serious type things. Is there anything inside you that goes you know
- 4:18what I want to go lighter? Like maybe I want to do something calmed
- 4:23or do you really feel like you are a dramatic actor? I one hundred
- 4:26percent would not consider myself a dramatic actor. I think I think I can
- 4:31do it, but I say i'm I'm more and when I act, I
- 4:35think i'm more Like with the natural stuff, like the more realistic stuff that
- 4:41happens more rather than just the emotional stuff, because I wouldn't sern myself like
- 4:45an emotional person or emotional So yeah, one hundred percent. I think if
- 4:50I had the chance to go lighterd percent, but if it's cool, if
- 4:54I stands out of drama like people like it. Yeah, yeah, you
- 4:58said you wouldn't consider yourself an emotional person, but you are an incredibly emotional
- 5:01actor, like you are able to draw out. And this is the feedback
- 5:06I've gotten because you you were actually a fan cast almost like a fans had
- 5:13asked us to interview you because they just felt that you were so powerful on
- 5:16how you expressed your character, expressed emotion and was just going through things.
- 5:20So I mean, and I think that also talks to the fact that people
- 5:25don't know how to separate the character from the person, right, So how
- 5:30are you able to balance that? Like you said, you feel like you're
- 5:32you're personally you're not that emotional, but obviously you have some emotional roles.
- 5:35How do you able to make that balance? I think what I do is
- 5:40I just remember that I am still playing a character, no matter how similar
- 5:45me and Kevin are because me and Kevin we are one hundred percent like very
- 5:47similar with how we were would be as people. So when I'm acting,
- 5:53I would just act as if it was me, and like I would just
- 5:57think, like, oh, how would I react in this situation? But
- 5:59then I still remember, oh, Okay, this is just it's just a
- 6:01show, and so that is cool, Like I just yeah, yeah,
- 6:05yeah, okay. Well I'm glad you mentioned Kevin because like obviously the biggest
- 6:10thing on the plate right now is the fact that you know with season three
- 6:13of BMF with Kevin, uh you, Kevin Bryan. Actually, before we
- 6:21get like too deep into the really heavy stuff, I just wanted to know,
- 6:25Jess, as you're working with actors like Steve Harris who played played Kevin's
- 6:30dad, Von Bryant, and Cynthia Bailey who played your mom Gloria Bryant or
- 6:33Kevin's mom Gloria Bryant, how was it building that relationship with them, like
- 6:38often on the camera, it was definitely an experience like on on camera or
- 6:44when we're like working. Steve is one hundred percent I consider him like a
- 6:47secondary director. He's very professional and he wants things done fast. And he
- 6:53he makes little suggestions about the show that not many people would notice, but
- 6:57it definitely does help when acting out stuff. And then Aptor camera nicest person
- 7:00in the world, but I'm not supposed to say that. He said he
- 7:03likes to keep his keep his reputation. His reputation is the mean guy,
- 7:08but now he's a teddy. But he's a really nice person. Okay.
- 7:12And what about with miss Cynthia. Cynthia, I actually never got to act
- 7:15with her, but oh yeah, we were both really sad about that.
- 7:19I here, the first time I had seen her was at the premiere,
- 7:23and the first thing she was like, oh my gosh, I'm so disappointed
- 7:26I never got to act with you. And so she just seems like a
- 7:29really nice person. And I had done an interview with her and she was
- 7:31talking about how this is pretty much her starting thing with breaking out of other
- 7:40things that she had done in the past with acting, and she's trying to
- 7:42get more into stuff like this. But I think she one hundred percent this
- 7:46is a good start. One hundred percent. Yeah, yeah, And how
- 7:47does that make you feel just as a young actor? Where I mean,
- 7:50it seems like they both took you very seriously, right, sometimes because when
- 7:56we're young, people will look at us like, oh, you don't know
- 7:59anything, like you just you know, I'm I'm the elder, and I
- 8:01know everything there is to know. You're just like, it seemed like they
- 8:05respected you and respected how you were approaching the situation. How did you feel
- 8:09about that? Uh? It caught me a little off guard actually, Like
- 8:13I was just I would be on set and anything I'd say, like I
- 8:18wouldn't expect it to be brushed off, but like I wouldn't expect them to
- 8:20take it as seriously as they took it with things that I had said,
- 8:24But they they took it like it was an adult saying, you know,
- 8:26I appreciate it a lot. Okay, So people were like really listening to
- 8:31your thoughts and your input and you just mentioned also like Steve, he was
- 8:35kind of like almost a secondary director. Do you think that like that's something
- 8:39you're gonna take away going forward or you just think it just depends on the
- 8:43project. I think both. I think because what I'm gonna take away from
- 8:48that is definitely the just the professionality of it. Yeah, how he was
- 8:54just he just he was trying to get the work them, but he was
- 8:56also having fun doing the work, and I think that's something Nine could take
- 9:01away from what he was doing, like on set, So learn to have
- 9:03more fun while you're deep in a role, like I know you mentioned you
- 9:07mentioned a lot people like DiCaprio, you mentioned Danzel like as as like almost
- 9:15I guess role models in terms of the acting craft, right, What made
- 9:18you choose them? Because those are some men who have a crazy deep history
- 9:24in acting. I chose them because, first of all, I have grown
- 9:28up watching both of them and I always loved their work. But it's just
- 9:33something like where the reputation that they have is you see them in the movie
- 9:37and you automatically assume it's going to be a great movie, or see them
- 9:39in a show project you're going to, you're automatically assume it's gonna be a
- 9:43great project. And it's also that versatility that they have that I always trying
- 9:48to I've always tried to reach and things like that is just why I chose
- 9:52those two in particular, and just you know, I just enjoy them as
- 9:56actors. Yeah, what what's your favorite roles of their or what movies of
- 10:01theirs or Leonardo DiCaprio. I say, Shutter Island has MM DiCaprio, and
- 10:09then for Denzel it's basic but training day. Basically you're sixteen, right,
- 10:15I'm fifteen. Oh fifteen, excuse me, it's fine. What did you
- 10:20How did you find out about these movies? Did your mom? But you
- 10:22wanted these? Yeah? My family we always were just like a We're a
- 10:24movie type family. We always be. We always watch movies, like just
- 10:30movies and shows. We watch a lot of stuff. So I would got
- 10:33my siblings or my older sibs who watching them, or my mom would watch
- 10:35them, and that was a good movie. Okay. Also, so you
- 10:39were like really looking at these films critically, like okay, like okay,
- 10:43I could see how you know they blocked this scene and how like I can
- 10:46imagine you sitting there like really going in lucky. Yeah, that's how I
- 10:50would approach it. I remember I used to be really critical. I think
- 10:54it was it was after the first time. It was it was after I
- 10:58did respect and just every movie I've seen, I would be the most critical
- 11:03person about it. I'd be like, oh, okay, so that's how
- 11:05they did that scene and da da da da. And that's also Another reason
- 11:07I like horror movies so much is because also like the background of it,
- 11:11like how they accomplished the certain things that they did on set to make it
- 11:16look like this. Yeah. Oh oh, we're going to talk about horror
- 11:20movies in a little bit, you know, because you look at things like
- 11:24these types of this type of art critically. Do you have some actors have
- 11:30an issue watching themselves, Like sometimes they watch themselves and they go, oh
- 11:33my gosh, and you know, you know, you're like always picking yourself
- 11:35apart. A lot of people do that, but especially in acting, do
- 11:37you have do you feel weird about watching yourself? I definitely feel weird about
- 11:43watching myself because I'm always looking at it and seeing every million things that I
- 11:48could have done better. But I think it makes me feel a little better
- 11:50because bigger actors that I've worked on set with they also have the same problem.
- 11:54So it's like, Okay, so it's not just me. It's like
- 11:56a regular thing that every actor is the most critical person, and so anytime
- 12:01I watch it, I try to stay away from it, but it's it's
- 12:05inevidently going to happen, so I just kind of look at it. I'm
- 12:07like, oh, I definitely could have done those things better and just keep
- 12:11it in mind. Hmm, okay, all right, you know what it's
- 12:16I think people really need to see the things that you've done so far because
- 12:20I do believe you deserve more recognition and more of a spotlight being shown on
- 12:24young actors like you and get you more opportunity to do all the different things
- 12:28that you want to do. Like you mentioned horror, Like what what makes
- 12:33you passionate about horror specifically? Like, for the record, I don't like
- 12:37horror. I don't, I'm not, and I'll be clear. I mean
- 12:41like the stuff where it's like gore and blood and and and so all of
- 12:45these like you know, someone's trying to jump out and scare you. I
- 12:48like maybe more psychological stuff like you know, final destination type stuff. What
- 12:54about you? I like all the genres horror. I think my top two
- 12:56hundred percent psychological ORR and gory horror, glory hard because I also grew up
- 13:03watching WORRD a lot because my mom also loves so I would watch it all
- 13:07the time and my dad is my dad hates gore. But yeah, I
- 13:11don't like get fascinated with it. In like movies and stuff, because it's
- 13:16just it just takes so much resources and so much for them to do to
- 13:20just even like film one type of gory scene. So I'm just like,
- 13:24wow, that's really cool. And also with psychological word's just because like it's
- 13:28the type of movies where after you watch it in the credits are role you
- 13:31just sit there for like're like what ten to fifteen minutes like wow, why
- 13:35I just watch watch Or in my case, when I was coming up final
- 13:41the destination was the movie, I'm like, this can actually happen. So
- 13:45it's really it's it's kind of insane and within like that horror genre, like
- 13:52what was there? Like if you think about it, like think of like
- 13:54one of your favorite horror movies or any name one that you would have want
- 14:00to play in, like if you could have cast yourself in it. I
- 14:05don't know exactly how they would fit me into it, but my favorite horror
- 14:09movie all time Hereditary. It's just really really good. I would love to
- 14:15just have been in there just to see like all the outtakes, even just
- 14:18different things that they didn't use in any places that they input improv just to
- 14:24see like oh wow, I didn't know, Yeah, Yeah, things like
- 14:28that. Yeah, well you're also like you working on your own writing,
- 14:31right, maybe you should write like a like a specscript of horror and like
- 14:35you put yourself in it, you know what I mean? Yeah? Maybe?
- 14:39I mean I'm also very critical by my writing too. I don't know
- 14:43why. Just anytime I finished writing something, I'm writing it, I'm like
- 14:46thirteen pages in, I'm like, wow, this is really good, and
- 14:48I reread it, I'm like, everything about this is terrible. You sound
- 14:52like every writer. No, I'm a writer too, So is my podcast
- 14:56harder. We look at ourselves and goes, this is trash. But but
- 15:01someone else may read it and be like, this is the most incredible thing
- 15:03I've ever read before in my life or ever seen before. You know,
- 15:09because that that idea of being critical about yourself and and it also manifests in
- 15:15something called imposter syndrome, which you may have heard before, where you feel
- 15:18like you're not really supposed to be in that place right, Like You're like,
- 15:22how did I get here? How did I get this opportunity? Do
- 15:24you ever feel that way? Or are you always like you know what I
- 15:26earned this, I'm where I'm supposed to be? Nah? I don't.
- 15:31I feel I have a lot of impostle syndrome sometimes, I think, because
- 15:33like I look at like all the accolades and I'm gidding, I'm like,
- 15:37I mean, was it that? Was it that good? Like did I
- 15:39really do that good? I don't really think so. I think it was
- 15:43good for like a good job bro a little bit, but you know,
- 15:46yeah yeah, but the accolades though. But the accolades though, and the
- 15:52and the ogs telling you that you got it, like yeah, you think
- 15:56like that's a good counteraction to that, like something to be like you know
- 16:00what I may be feeling the way I may be even feeling scared, but
- 16:03I'm gonna do it scared. I'm gonna keep going because I'm Jarelle and I
- 16:07need my opportunities. Like you got to keep moving forward, right. I
- 16:10think one thing that's pushing to me is just the amount of people now that
- 16:15I just I have to like have success now because like the amount of people
- 16:19that's like, wow, you're gonna be something. I gotta be something like
- 16:23it is just I was, I was playing it on it before, but
- 16:26now more than ever, like I gotta show that I definitely can, Like
- 16:30that wasn't wrong. Yeah, yeah, you you are more than something.
- 16:36You are a star. You really are, and I want you to understand
- 16:37that. Like I'm sure you hear it here and there in different ways,
- 16:41but I hope that you're like really taking that to heart and feeling that for
- 16:45yourself, because everybody's their own star, right, everybody's the main character,
- 16:48right, that's what they say. But like, I think it's important,
- 16:52like if no one has said this yet, to really recognize your light and
- 16:57let your light shine, like even if it just feels weird or you're just
- 17:00like I don't know, man, I don't know about this. Just keep
- 17:03doing it because it's always what always happens is everybody else catches up. Like
- 17:07you may do something and people will be like, oh that was whack or
- 17:11I don't know about that, but people didn't catch up to you after the
- 17:15fact and they go, you know what, what he did was actually kind
- 17:17of fire like, And I don't know if you've ever even experienced that where
- 17:21like someone was just like down to you and then they came back like you
- 17:23know what he actually was? Right. Yeah, I'm hoping one day though.
- 17:30Yeah, yeah, that's it, right, because when we just getting
- 17:36back to Kevin for a little bit. You know, he's gone through a
- 17:40multitude of like traumatizing experience and like, even though this is fiction, I
- 17:44notice can take a toll on yourself as an actor, right because you're able
- 17:48to you mentioned earlier, able to separate, but but you're still dealing with
- 17:52very heavy concepts. Did the production team or anybody in the team provide like
- 17:56counseling or someone to talk to based on these situation since that Kevin was facing.
- 18:00I think they they definitely everybody played their own part, like anybody,
- 18:06to the cameraman, the people, like anybody. They all just made sure
- 18:10that I was okay, like after reporting, like you're good, just like
- 18:15making sure that I'm actually okay, and just like asking things and just providing
- 18:18me just assurance and just sing like oh yeah, you're gonna be fine.
- 18:22I just write that things like that. Mmm. And I would just imagine
- 18:26even like you're on screen, well at least your on screen father, like
- 18:30he would probably help you through this as well, Like how did he how
- 18:34he helped you, like support you through this. I think it's the same
- 18:38thing. You just be like like, oh you're good man, you got
- 18:41that. That was good and just showing me, like he's just making sure
- 18:44that I knew that I was doing good and like that I was doing okay
- 18:48and things like that. Yeah, yeah, and I and a lot of
- 18:52the people who have listened to us. They mentioned that that asked for you
- 18:55to be on They mentioned that like what Kevin went through, like countless people
- 19:00have gone through the same or similar situations as Kevin, and like we hope
- 19:06that through all the pain that was on screen, that something positive can be
- 19:08taken away, right Unfortunately, like you had sins we saw with Kevin,
- 19:14Like so too many innocent youth is like taken down right by like neglect by
- 19:18from parents, their family, their friends, the system, you know,
- 19:22education sometimes school. Like how do you feel about your impact that you've been
- 19:26having on people and what positive you think people could take away. I feel
- 19:32like even since last season, I think people have always been talking about like
- 19:37how, oh you did so good and showing like how bad bullying is and
- 19:41like how this is like not a good thing, and I think that's a
- 19:44positive people could take away from it. Ites, Yeah, bullying is like
- 19:47a real issue, Like it's one hundred percent it should be taken serious because
- 19:51like in extreme cases, this is what it could lead up to and things
- 19:53may be worse than this, And like I think that's a positive that to
- 19:57show that people stopping think about it, like, oh maybe it just maybe
- 20:03I should take this more seriously and just talk to people that are going through
- 20:07this, make sure they're actually doing okay and they need like if they need
- 20:11help, I can to show them help. Things like that. Absolutely.
- 20:15Absolutely. You know, speaking of takeaway, it's a different form of takeaway
- 20:18because this is your last season. Did you actually take anything away from the
- 20:22set as a souvenir. I know a lot of people do that, like
- 20:26a reminder of your time. I got. I think what I took away
- 20:32was they gave me a jacket, a beam that jacket and a vinyl two
- 20:37and I took that away from it. And then we did like after death
- 20:40care, Like every time a character dies, they have like a photo shoot
- 20:45with angel wings, and so I got to do that. Wait, like
- 20:48the hood photo shoot with like the or like you know, like like it's
- 20:52a airbrush clouds and stuff. It's like it's like a it's like a yearbook
- 20:56photo. But like, god, am I gonna so you got that?
- 21:00Are you gonna did you post that yet or are they gonna post that?
- 21:03No idea? Oh okay, that that would be cool. They posted that,
- 21:07okay, sad, but but you know, I want them to post
- 21:10that, okay. And I mean you talked about what the impact that your
- 21:17character and what other people would take away. What is your takeaway, your
- 21:21personal takeaway, whether professionally or emotionally or whatever. My takeaway is like,
- 21:27I really I really can't affect people like in this space. And also bemt
- 21:32is a lot bic even I thought I learned that last season. I think
- 21:36it was right after it came out and I was at the fair and people
- 21:40were coming out to me like, oh you're Kevin. I'm like, okay,
- 21:42so you know who I am. I remember one experience in particular.
- 21:45I was with my friends, like a whole group of my friends, and
- 21:48we were at one of those games where like you throw the ball and like
- 21:51at the cups and then he he looked at me like my friends were asking
- 21:55for like just a free when they was like, come on, like slide
- 21:57one. And so I was standing there and he looked at me, was
- 22:00like you're an actor, right, And I was like, yeah, not
- 22:02slide you one cool experience in my life. I was like, cool,
- 22:06and so I got to do it. Still lost the game, but it
- 22:10was cool. It was cool. And so that's the first time you were
- 22:14like recognized like that. The first time I was recognized was at the fair.
- 22:18It was, but it was earlier in the day. I got recognized
- 22:21a lot that day, but it was earlier in the day. I was
- 22:22standing in the line and they just the people are running me just asked for
- 22:25a picture. I was like, oh, wow, that's pretty cool.
- 22:29So it was cool. You did you did? You? Were you like?
- 22:30Why me? Why are you bothering or what? Was you excited?
- 22:33I feel like that would be exciting. I was excited. I was excited.
- 22:37I'm always excited anytime I get recognized because it's just like, so they
- 22:41really be watching my stuff watching it's real people. We are real. These
- 22:45people who are watching you and amploying you and supporting you are real and we
- 22:48want you to win for sure. Okay. I love that. And like
- 22:52at the fair of all places, was your friends like yeah, that's yeah,
- 22:56they're like real, you really famous? No, your friends are always
- 23:00the best, the ones that are really behind you, you know. One
- 23:03d toes. They'd be like, yeah, that's my friend, what's up?
- 23:07You know? I love that. I love that with Kevin's character,
- 23:12Like, yeah, there's there's a lot of the down parts that happened with
- 23:18him, you know, the things that were sad and very also depressing to
- 23:21be honest, But there were also some lights, like you got to see
- 23:25the fact that he was in the comics and into like a lot of stuff
- 23:30that you personally are into as well. And I also saw that Kevin would
- 23:33draw superheroes. Were you the one actually making those drawings? No, Unfortunately
- 23:37I cannot talk. Oh okay, that's all right, But who can you
- 23:41reveal? Who helped you? Who did it and how that worked? It
- 23:45might have been I don't know. I'm might just braining in misinformation, but
- 23:51might writers and directors are just somebody said, I did get to color it,
- 23:55though you did also for some scenes. I got to do a little
- 23:59bit of coloring on it, and that was cool. But they it was
- 24:02like fully fledged out stories. And just as as season two progressed, do
- 24:07it get darker and darker? Like it started off just like Bruiser being like
- 24:11light and stuff, and then as the season went on and asked, Kevin's
- 24:14Mitchell state like deteriorated. It just got darker and darker, and I got
- 24:17to see I got to see the whole story, and that was really cool.
- 24:18It was really cool. That's like very metal like life imitating art and
- 24:22then happening again like on screen like that. That's actually really cool too.
- 24:27All Right, so we're not one hundred percent, but someone within the cast,
- 24:32not the cast, but the crew or writers potentially was drawing this and
- 24:36also helping making the stories. Did you have any input on that or it
- 24:38was just like yo, I made something, Do you like this? Yeah,
- 24:41it was like that, but it's because they already had Kevin's story right
- 24:45now, and Bruiser was really imitating because I think for one of the comics
- 24:51was just Bruiser had accidentally killed his love interest to have Kel accidentally killing his
- 24:56bully. Yeah, Bruiser was really sad bat Kevin was obviously excited about it.
- 25:02So it was just like, yeah, so cool. How they like
- 25:04tied that together? Yeah yeah, no, I like that parallels and also
- 25:08like comics is a way for every for a lot of people to like get
- 25:12the expression of their of their emotions or even expression of themselves right, Like
- 25:17especially sometimes the people are more quiet or they're not sure how to like interact
- 25:22with different people. They use stories, you know, they may use anime,
- 25:25they use comics, they may use gaming. You are also a big
- 25:30anime person. Yes, I love anime. You got to tell me what
- 25:36you're watching right now? What I'm watching right as of right now, I'm
- 25:41trying to rewatch You're lying, April. Oh, very good, that's a
- 25:45good one. Obviously I'm watching I'm watching re Zero. I don't know why
- 25:49it's take me a long time to watch that. It's just such a good
- 25:52show. I'm at season two, like I'm now near the end of it.
- 25:53I'm caught up to one piece and like the manga and everything that's gonna
- 25:56ask for you a one piece of person. Yeah, that's my favorite anime.
- 26:00And just anything that i'm watching. I watched I watched The Race a
- 26:06couple of days ago, just in one day, and it was it's just
- 26:08it's twelve episodes, but still, yeah, I'm watching any type of animes
- 26:12that I haven't seen yet. You know, really, my hero, my
- 26:17hero low Ki. I stopped watching my ear like, what's I don't know,
- 26:22I don't know, I just after I think it was after season four.
- 26:26Yeah, it was after season four. It was a fight between Class
- 26:29one A and Class one B, and I was like, mmm, I'm
- 26:32just gonna in your defense. It does kind of go a little weird after
- 26:36that, like it's like a lot of filler type stuff after that, but
- 26:38it picks up again, so I don't know, maybe give another try.
- 26:41Yeah, I'm gonna give another try, Get another try. Yeah. Well
- 26:45okay, well I gotta we got a twelve shop real quick. Wait.
- 26:48Tack On Titan. I love Attack on Site. That's one of my favorite
- 26:52animes. Finally I got my dad to watch it. He said he liked
- 26:55it after it's it. It took like what halfway into season two because he's
- 27:00really critical about stuff that he watches, but he said he liked the second
- 27:03time. You know, but you team team Aaron, Team Aaron. Oh
- 27:08Aaron can't do nothing wrong. Okay, he stopped out the world. I'm
- 27:15nothing wrong though, So okay, okay, I get that all right.
- 27:19Oh man, there are so many good anime nowadays, especially I mean,
- 27:27are you also up on the classics like DBZ? Yes? Yes, I
- 27:32think that's that's where I started because my dad was watching it. And like
- 27:34one core memory I have where I was just like standing up in my crib
- 27:40and just I heard I heard her the intro. But that's it because I
- 27:42was supposed to be sleeping, but I heard her in the intro and that's
- 27:45like, I just that's just something I remember weirdly. So you do remember
- 27:49that. It's wow. Wow. Do you see the effect parents have on
- 27:53us? That is insane? Okay, we we gotta how to also do
- 28:00like a little thing maybe another time, just to like really get onto where
- 28:04you are with the anime stuff, because this I feel like a lot of
- 28:08people don't understand, like especially black people, like we on anime heavy,
- 28:12like we're the one. So would you go to like a comic con or
- 28:15something. I've been to comic cons and things like that. I've gone to.
- 28:19It was this thing in Atlanta where it was like, uh, I
- 28:22forgot what it was called. It was Momo Con. Kanye, Yeah,
- 28:25I went to Mamocon and my uncle because he likes anime too, and it
- 28:27was just like a really good experiences walking around seeing all the costumes and how
- 28:32the comics and how the manga and just we went to some seminars to talk
- 28:37about uh just even black creators with their comics and just just regular creators,
- 28:41just people who create. And it was really cool. Yeah. Yeah,
- 28:47just an anime recommendation for you if you've have you ever seen Cycle Paths or
- 28:52heard of Cycle Pass. I've heard of Psychopath. I think I watched up
- 28:57into the part. I think it was after NA. Actually I haven't watched
- 29:02it. Watch that. I will watch that. Put it on you to
- 29:07watch this. I don't know if you have crunchy roll whatever you have,
- 29:08watch it. I think because based on the stuff you were saying, I
- 29:12think you might like it. I think you might like it. You know
- 29:17what's really cool like the fact that, like you are so professional and like
- 29:22you're clearly gifted, but like, at the same time, you are a
- 29:26kid, And I think people forget that, especially when they see black kids.
- 29:30They're just they tend to make them want to, you know, age
- 29:33them up and like have to go through life so quick and grow up too
- 29:37fast. And what do you say to that, Like, especially as a
- 29:41sixteen year old in twenty twenty four, Like stuff is different from when I
- 29:45was sixteen, So I mean, what do you how do you feel right
- 29:48now in this and the way the world is right now, I say it's
- 29:52still it's still like you can feel that you're being a kid. But I
- 29:57think it's definitely we is speeding up the process growing up a little bit like
- 30:03being a kid. Four is just like a lot a lot of people are
- 30:06just speeding up the maturity level, our maturity process. And but I think
- 30:11I've gotten really lucky because I really I have the most free time in the
- 30:14world, so I always have time to just be doing something and watching something
- 30:18and listening to music and stuff like that. And so I think I've gotten
- 30:22time to just experience having a childhood, especially since like I have all the
- 30:26other siblings who have done it, so like I know, I know what
- 30:30to do. That's excellent. That's excellent. What music? What's your favorite
- 30:33music? Like? What's your favorite artists are? Andred Kendrick Wamar and also
- 30:37the second place of Jedd for me. Okay, actually just came from Dreamville
- 30:42this past weekend. Yeah it was it was you would you would have loved
- 30:48it. But wait a minute, so what did you think about the whole
- 30:52this situation? Wow, I'm one Kensrick. It's just like and then Jacole
- 31:00responding and apologize Misshits. I mean, it's Kencry I'll blame it's kendriy Oh,
- 31:07so you're like he did the right thing. Yeah, I think so.
- 31:10And plus that just opens up another door for them to potentially make a
- 31:14collap album. I don't know if they're gonna do it after this, but
- 31:17hopefully what if Kendrick just comes back and distance them anyway. I mean,
- 31:22Ja Cole said he would just take it, but like, what if that
- 31:23happens. I mean, I'm gonna listen to it. I'm abuve the song.
- 31:27You're like, sorry to Jacob, sorry to this man, but I
- 31:33love it. I love it all right. You are such an incredible young
- 31:37creator. I really appreciate you and everything that you've been doing. And I
- 31:41love that you're so self aware. I think that's also super duper important.
- 31:47A lot of people don't even realize at any age, Like sometimes people just
- 31:49don't realize like how they affect other people, or like how anything you do
- 31:56can have later implications. How do you move in the world, like with
- 32:00that understanding. I think my parents one hundred percent, they they said that
- 32:07all the time, and so it's just kind of been like jammed into my
- 32:08brain. Like I always think about like what I'm doing. Sometimes it's not
- 32:12still not the smartest thing, like it's okay, like like the future applications
- 32:17of what I'm doing and just yeah, you know, I always try to
- 32:22do the right thing, is to do something to uplift somebody, because you
- 32:25know, that's that that could make somebody's dame. And that's always my uh,
- 32:29that's always my implications and what I'm doing absolutely, all right. I
- 32:36really appreciated this conversation. Before we go, I want to do a BRAP
- 32:40segment with you. We have called and what we do is we give you
- 32:45some quick questions and you just answer with the first, you know, the
- 32:49first answer that you think speaks to you the most, you know, whatever
- 32:53you like, and I might ask you why, or I might just keep
- 32:55going. All right, you ready, all right? Question Magneto or Professor
- 33:01X Professor X. My mann name is Xavier. So I wasna My name
- 33:07is supposed to be Charles Xavier. Are you serious? Yes? Was that
- 33:10your dad's or your mom's idea? That was my dad's. That was my
- 33:15dad's dad, So I was my grandpa and it was going to name me
- 33:16Charles Xavier, but he put the Xavier partic's my dad's as Wait did he
- 33:21do that specifically to like its? No, mom, I mean yes,
- 33:23your grandpa the monster professor x Oh, that's fire. You should still do
- 33:30it anyway. You should still tell people that's your whole name. You gonna
- 33:32say the whole thing. I love it. My name is Jerrell because it
- 33:36sounds like Superman's dad Joreore. Wait a minute, your parents is tea.
- 33:42I love this. Look, this is what we live for. We live
- 33:45for comics and and everything and fandom. So that is an amazing You are
- 33:50a superhero. Look at that. Just already you should. That's also where
- 33:53you probably go for a superhero movie. I'm saying, you know, China,
- 33:57people been saying like, I look like Myles Moraley. I was gonna
- 34:00say, you want to you wanna be Mius? You know what I'm saying,
- 34:04and and and listen. It could be live action, it could be
- 34:07animation where you do voice like yeah, like expand your thoughts of what this
- 34:10can be like. You would be incredible in that space. Okay, cool,
- 34:14cool, cool, I have another question for you, Superman or Batman.
- 34:17Batman, you said, wait, you said that way too fast,
- 34:21waiting. I always think Superman, Why you don't like sum I like Superman,
- 34:25but I've always just like Batman more. I think it's just because I
- 34:30have the first movie, the first the first one I heard of was Superman,
- 34:32but then I got Mar's a Batman, and I've just always been reading
- 34:37his comics more and just he's just I think he's a cooler character because he's
- 34:40doing all of this with not a single superpower, and he's just he's still
- 34:44on like the top of just the power scaling thing, and just like he's
- 34:47still a threat to people who can blow up planets, and I think,
- 34:51like, wow, you can do that as a regular union. That's cool.
- 34:53This is this is true. Okay, I'm gonna test your horror knowledge
- 34:58real quick or your horror passions. Let's see between the three Mike Myers,
- 35:05Freddy or Jason. Who's winning in the fight? Who's winning to fight?
- 35:09Who you picking? Whatever? I got Jason? You got Jason? Why
- 35:15Jason? Because so I'm talking like in a fight. So Jason already beaten
- 35:22Freddy Krul before, right, Well, I mean kind of I counted as
- 35:27a win. You counted as okay, right, and I don't know what
- 35:30he's doing. I don't know if I don't know if Michael Myers is gonna
- 35:35do anything. I don't know Michael Myers are doing anything to Freddy. You
- 35:37don't think Mike got hands. I don't think Michael Myers can hang with Jason.
- 35:42I think Jason is one hundred percent is stronger one. He's had just
- 35:45better feats. And Michael Myers he can still get cut like he don't got
- 35:51regeneration tech. Well he does, obviously, what's gonna say? He's really
- 35:58already kill but he can die. And I think that's why I got Jason,
- 36:00because Jason, he can't die stupid, He's already dead. He's a
- 36:04zombie. So yeah, it'll be tense lines harder to kill him, but
- 36:07just like a knife from bare hands. All right, solid reasoning. I'll
- 36:09give you that. Excellent job. What's your favorite comic book or comic book
- 36:15hero? My favorite comic book hero is Batman, But my favorite comic book
- 36:20I have to say, HM, DC Zombies or Marvel Zombies, one of
- 36:25those two. Do you watch what If? On Disney Plus? That zombie
- 36:32episode was crazy? That was that was really good? Exact way. Yeah,
- 36:37yeah, oh man, that's crazy all right. In any movie or
- 36:44story or TV show, what character's death hurt you the most? I don't
- 36:50want you can't say your own character. I think it was in Better Call
- 36:58Saul. Hm hmm. I think it was I forget, Oh it was
- 37:01Howard's mm hmm. Anybody but Howard's death that messed you up? That was
- 37:09so unexpected, like I didn't wow, I didn't know that was going to
- 37:13do that. That was really good. It's such a good show in general.
- 37:15Like, I think that's that's up. That's up the ranking one of
- 37:17my favorite shows. Yeah mm hmm. Okay, your favorite superhero movie of
- 37:23all time? Here's a weird movie. I gotta think about this one my
- 37:30brand ticket time. I have to say I always find myself. I wouldn't
- 37:37say it's number one, but the first one that comes to mind. I
- 37:38always find myself going back to Spider Man Homecoming. Mm hmm. It's really
- 37:44really, really good. It's exceptional. It's one of the more exceptional ones,
- 37:49right, okay, excellent? Hhmm. Star Wars or Star Trek Star
- 37:57Wars. I was never I was never really raised around Star Trek. My
- 38:01dad really likes Star Wars, so like I just kind of inherited that.
- 38:06But yeah, Star Wars, okay, not problem, not a problem.
- 38:10If you could have any one superpower one, what would it be? Luck
- 38:17manipulation. But if you have to basic, I choose teleportation. That's it?
- 38:23Right? Wait wait wait wait wait wait luck, luck manipulation or teleportation.
- 38:29M I think luck manipulation. I gotta yeah, that's you could just
- 38:35do anything with that really, like you make it so the probability that you
- 38:40fall off this ledge and hurt yourself is like zero percent or something, I
- 38:45don't know. You get lucky and like fall on a tarp that's passing nearby,
- 38:47that was blown in the wind hundred miles away or something. Just you
- 38:52can do cool things with that power. No splash damage there, right,
- 38:55I love it. Speaking of splash damage, what is your favorite game?
- 39:00Red De Redemption too? I think I got top three is red De Redemption
- 39:06to and uh nba two K? You got two K? You gotta throw
- 39:12in two K just like for the down time too, right, you gotta
- 39:15be playing two K in between shooting two like shooting Okay, I thought so.
- 39:21And then in terms of like luck manipulation, you know there's like a
- 39:22lot of characters that have that, Like there's Domino. I think one in
- 39:27particular there isn't been stated. I don't think it's been stated that she has
- 39:30it. But squirrel girl. M m, she's too lucky to not have
- 39:35some type of you think she's too lucky. Yeah, she's too lucky for
- 39:38that. But yeah, Domino, I really like that. I wish stay
- 39:42back for the third one, but nah, I know, I know.
- 39:45So you're looking forward to seeing the new the new Deadpool. I'm really excited
- 39:49for that one. Excellent. Okay, well you have survived the black segment,
- 39:54you have survived the interview. Thank you so much, Javelle for your
- 39:58time. It was a great time talking to you. Before we go,
- 40:01please let everyone know any of your future projects that you can talk about and
- 40:07then where they can find you and anything else you want to plug. One
- 40:10plug I have is my Instagram. My name is Darrell is simple, get
- 40:14no space is. My name is Darrel. Any future product I have,
- 40:16I don't know if I can say. I can't talk about it, but
- 40:19I have one future product that it's a it's been recently greenld to go for
- 40:23shooting and so I don't get five inches taller fingers crossed, I got it
- 40:30O come back? What are you six foot right now? Wow? And
- 40:34you and you bawling right? You play basketball too. Wish I was gonna
- 40:37back, wasn't. You're not good at it. No. I can only
- 40:40get and play defense. That's all I can do. That's why everybody has
- 40:45a role. That's okay, Thank you so much, and fan fam will
- 40:50be back with more for Owner Hill other than those mans.
