Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett on my line right now
- 0:08Speaker 1: is Terminello's take. And guess what, louis We're going video
- 0:11Speaker 1: moving forward because I think they need to see your
- 0:14Speaker 1: you know, handsome face and your back hair. And the
- 0:17Speaker 1: only thing missing is a biscatti all right, so yes,
- 0:22Speaker 1: a little later biscotti taste testing on the show. Anyway, Lou,
- 0:27Speaker 1: we're doing video moving forward. And what a great week
- 0:30Speaker 1: to kick it off because it is Super Bowl week
- 0:32Speaker 1: and there's just a lot going on. But of course,
- 0:36Speaker 1: the funny thing is before this week started, we got
- 0:38Speaker 1: the big trade over the weekend. And you're a big
- 0:40Speaker 1: basketball guy, Luca for Anthony Davis. And by the way,
- 0:45Speaker 1: they've been throwing comparisons out about you know what this
- 0:48Speaker 1: trade is like in MLB terms, NBA, NHL terms all that.
- 0:53Speaker 1: I just want to know. Are the Mavericks a bit
- 0:55Speaker 1: I hate to say cheap, but they don't want to
- 0:57Speaker 1: spend on the guy? Is that what's happening here?
- 1:00Speaker 2: Alex. It's good to be with you, and it was
- 1:02Speaker 2: a shocking trade. I don't understand why Dallas did it. Yes,
- 1:10Speaker 2: you heard about Luca being out of shape for the
- 1:13Speaker 2: last couple of years, but he was out of shape
- 1:15Speaker 2: last year. Alex, I hope. I wish all the teams
- 1:17Speaker 2: I routed for I had a shape players like that.
- 1:20Speaker 2: He averaged almost thirty four points a game and they
- 1:23Speaker 2: got to the NBA Finals. So Saturday night, late Saturday night,
- 1:29Speaker 2: when I heard that trade, I was in shock. I mean,
- 1:33Speaker 2: there's no other way to say it. Yes, Anthony Davis
- 1:37Speaker 2: is a tremendous player. He's not Luca. He's six years
- 1:41Speaker 2: older than Luca. Dantage is going to be the lakers
- 1:46Speaker 2: next star, as we know. I don't know why they
- 1:53Speaker 2: didn't open it up more Ifallas Dallas, that is, if
- 1:56Speaker 2: they wanted to trade Luca, but they probably kept it
- 1:59Speaker 2: quiet so they could trade Luca without a lot of
- 2:05Speaker 2: a lot of red tape.
- 2:08Speaker 1: And you know, people have been telling me, Lou, oh,
- 2:10Speaker 1: what do you mean, it's putting the Lakers back on
- 2:12Speaker 1: the map. They've always been on the map, Yeah, but
- 2:14Speaker 1: this puts them in a different level than they have
- 2:16Speaker 1: been in the last few years. I mean, they haven't
- 2:18Speaker 1: been in the news like we're used to seeing the
- 2:20Speaker 1: Lakers in the news. Now you got Duncans and Lebron
- 2:26Speaker 1: on the same team. I mean, look, we could be
- 2:28Speaker 1: on the pace for the Knicks Lakers final here, it
- 2:31Speaker 1: could be that track we're on Louke.
- 2:34Speaker 2: I don't know if they can get to the finals.
- 2:37Speaker 2: I don't because obviously there is a transition period they're
- 2:41Speaker 2: going to have to fit them in. Obviously he's a
- 2:46Speaker 2: tremendous player. The thing is, both Lebron and Luca do
- 2:52Speaker 2: best when they have the ball in their hands. And
- 2:54Speaker 2: that's the one thing with Anthony Davis. He didn't have
- 2:58Speaker 2: to you know, you didn't have to give him the
- 3:00Speaker 2: of the ball in every play. Plus effect, he was
- 3:02Speaker 2: a rim protector. He's a great shot blocker and the
- 3:05Speaker 2: outstanding rebounder. I think this trade was made to be
- 3:15Speaker 2: the next He's going to be the next royalty for
- 3:19Speaker 2: the for the Lakers. The Lakers who have had you know, hey,
- 3:21Speaker 2: let's face since they moved from Minneapolis back in nineteen
- 3:25Speaker 2: sixty elgind Baylor, then Wes Chamberlain, Kareem Shaq, Kobe Lebron,
- 3:35Speaker 2: and now I mean, there's no team, with the exception
- 3:39Speaker 2: of the Celtics, that I've had as many Hall of
- 3:42Speaker 2: Famers and has as many superstars. It will keep the
- 3:48Speaker 2: Lakers on national TV thirty three times.
- 3:50Speaker 1: As we saw joke GNA ring with the Nuggets. I
- 3:53Speaker 1: think it'll be only fitting if Duncas was in position
- 3:56Speaker 1: to get a ring as well. I mean, he is
- 3:57Speaker 1: another face of that league. He's got to get the ring.
- 3:59Speaker 1: It's point. So maybe this is Delopers again.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Very much like the Dodgers have become an international team
- 4:05Speaker 2: with Otani and uh with all their recent acquisitions of
- 4:10Speaker 2: international players. Same thing with the NBA. I mean, Dodge
- 4:15Speaker 2: is an international star. He's a star in Europe.
- 4:19Speaker 1: And then went from Magic because remember Magic keeps pushing
- 4:21Speaker 1: out all these different things with the ring, with the
- 4:24Speaker 1: winning it with the Dodgers, now the Commanders now here
- 4:27Speaker 1: with the Lakers. I mean, the guy's doing a lot.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Well again, it was it was really the relationship between
- 4:33Speaker 2: Rob Polinka and a Nico Harrison, who the Jet was
- 4:36Speaker 2: jail manager of Dallas. Is a genil matter of Dallas.
- 4:39Speaker 2: They knew each other from the Nike days.
- 4:43Speaker 1: You know.
- 4:44Speaker 2: That had a lot to do with it, and they
- 4:46Speaker 2: the fact that they were able to keep it quiet
- 4:48Speaker 2: for three four days is remarkable. Uh. Did the Lakers
- 4:53Speaker 2: won the trade? The Lakers trade?
- 4:55Speaker 1: Yeah? Now the question is going to because I think
- 4:57Speaker 1: they're still a little down in the standing. So how
- 5:00Speaker 1: does this trade affect the rest of the West as
- 5:02Speaker 1: we move forward? I mean, could they jump up to
- 5:04Speaker 1: that fourth or third seed? Now they're a little behind
- 5:07Speaker 1: the ball right now?
- 5:08Speaker 2: They are they are? I think they're twenty Well, they
- 5:11Speaker 2: won last night at the Clippers, so they're twenty nine
- 5:13Speaker 2: and nineteen. I believe they've been a little bit better
- 5:17Speaker 2: shaped than they were last year at this time. I
- 5:21Speaker 2: think they're going to make another trade before the trade deadline,
- 5:24Speaker 2: which is tomorrow at three o'clock February sixth, So we
- 5:29Speaker 2: you know, we'll see what happens that they need to
- 5:30Speaker 2: rim protect there.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I mean, I'm here here on the East coast. The
- 5:34Speaker 1: Knicks have a possibility of getting Durant. Are you hearing
- 5:37Speaker 1: any of this? Yeah?
- 5:39Speaker 2: I heard about early this morning. I don't know where
- 5:43Speaker 2: they could fit them in, I really don't.
- 5:46Speaker 1: And what would you trade hard? I mean, who you're
- 5:48Speaker 1: gonna get rid of because I don't know who else
- 5:49Speaker 1: you can get rid of on.
- 5:50Speaker 2: That, because they're not going to get them for nothing.
- 5:53Speaker 2: And I know Phoenix said they would never trade Durant,
- 5:56Speaker 2: but things change. Durant made a huge mistake. He requested
- 6:00Speaker 2: the trade out of Brooklyn. Uh the next run the
- 6:03Speaker 2: verge of getting Siakam and Van Vliet at that time
- 6:07Speaker 2: after they after they moved Kyrie.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Uh.
- 6:10Speaker 2: And I believe that Durant made a huge mistake. I
- 6:15Speaker 2: am surprised Phoenix hasn't worked at all. I mean they've
- 6:18Speaker 2: been around five hundred all season. Obviously they didn't do
- 6:25Speaker 2: anything in the playoffs. Sports mentioning last year. But again,
- 6:30Speaker 2: can he get traded? He's not playing tonight in Oklahoma City.
- 6:33Speaker 2: They say he has an ankle injury. By keeping him
- 6:36Speaker 2: out because of a potential trade, I don't know, you
- 6:40Speaker 2: know so uh so we'll see Durant to the Knicks. Look,
- 6:46Speaker 2: as I told you all summer, it's been and right
- 6:50Speaker 2: up right up until the last week, a lot of
- 6:53Speaker 2: weirdness in the NBA.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Well remember what Carl Anthony was actually in the middle
- 6:59Speaker 1: of practicing in the Timberwolves gym when he found out
- 7:02Speaker 1: he was traded. I mean, this is out wallid and wacky.
- 7:05Speaker 1: It's been.
- 7:05Speaker 2: It's it's wacky and uh. Like I said that trade
- 7:09Speaker 2: didn't make sense to Minnesota. Now I see that that
- 7:12Speaker 2: Julius Randall is on the trade block. But I also
- 7:15Speaker 2: see that Julius Randall is going to be out for
- 7:17Speaker 2: a couple of weeks, so that's that. Does that take
- 7:19Speaker 2: Julius Randall off the trade block? The Knicks won that trade.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Julius Randall was not going to help them. So this
- 7:27Speaker 2: trade with Donk is so strange it makes snow, it
- 7:31Speaker 2: makes now rational sense the end. It's a very the
- 7:36Speaker 2: Bridges trade from Brooklyn to the next Yeah, made no sense.
- 7:39Speaker 1: And you said that was the first time. It's eighty
- 7:41Speaker 1: three they made a trade, is that.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Yeah, they made a minor trade in eighty three. I
- 7:44Speaker 2: was there and that was like I said, we don't
- 7:48Speaker 2: even talk to them when I was there, And Bobby
- 7:51Speaker 2: Marx who's on ESPN and said it right away, and
- 7:54Speaker 2: he was, you know, in the next front office for
- 7:56Speaker 2: for two decades, said we didn't even talked to them.
- 7:59Speaker 1: We didn't call them.
- 7:59Speaker 2: They call us. It's just a strange trade dynamic. This
- 8:04Speaker 2: year again, well look who look at this. The Bulls
- 8:07Speaker 2: traded out Zach Levine. I mean, that was a big
- 8:09Speaker 2: face of the Bolls. He's gone now. So a lot
- 8:12Speaker 2: of changes, and I don't know why the Kings would
- 8:15Speaker 2: trade the DeAndre Fox. I mean I don't, But again
- 8:21Speaker 2: the NBA is is, well, say the least.
- 8:25Speaker 1: The bigger question here is and we just saw Chris
- 8:28Speaker 1: Middleton is gonna get traded or got traded? Does this
- 8:32Speaker 1: trade open up the floodgates? Like if this guy can
- 8:34Speaker 1: get traded, we could trade anybody? Is that what the
- 8:37Speaker 1: message is here?
- 8:38Speaker 2: Well, with dont just getting traded, that shows anybody to
- 8:41Speaker 2: get traded. And middle Kon is physical issues. He was
- 8:47Speaker 2: a key part of the twenty one championship team that
- 8:50Speaker 2: the net should have won if they have those injuries
- 8:53Speaker 2: in the Conference semis.
- 8:56Speaker 1: All it took was to be stepped on and that
- 8:58Speaker 1: was the end.
- 8:58Speaker 2: It was just the Kyrie we stepped on and James
- 9:03Speaker 2: Harden at the hamstring pull and in Game seven at
- 9:07Speaker 2: the end of regulation, Durant has his toe on the line,
- 9:12Speaker 2: so and then they lost in overtime.
- 9:14Speaker 1: But even if he comes the next I don't know
- 9:15Speaker 1: how he'd be a good fit because they've already got
- 9:17Speaker 1: the big guy. I mean, I don't know how that
- 9:19Speaker 1: would work.
- 9:20Speaker 2: So well, he's a closer and Brunson's a closer. There's
- 9:25Speaker 2: no question about that. He's developing to a closer, but
- 9:29Speaker 2: Durant is a closure at at an even higher level
- 9:33Speaker 2: if they can get him. Obviously, there definitely I think
- 9:36Speaker 2: they're in the running for the finals now, they would
- 9:39Speaker 2: definitely be in the finals. So so we'll see.
- 9:42Speaker 1: When you were executive, were you privy to any of
- 9:45Speaker 1: these trade conversations or well, I was.
- 9:47Speaker 2: I never had any input, But what did I did
- 9:50Speaker 2: I know about some situations that might happen? I did.
- 9:54Speaker 2: The one I didn't know is when when we got
- 9:57Speaker 2: Vince Carter, and uh, we kept that under wraps. Nobody,
- 10:04Speaker 2: nobody knew. Bobby Marks knew obviously, and uh, I remember
- 10:09Speaker 2: we had lost the game a couple of nights earlier,
- 10:11Speaker 2: and we had lost Kenyan Martin that off season, and
- 10:15Speaker 2: I was, I was upset, and I walked by Bobby
- 10:18Speaker 2: Marks and the other thing he said to me is
- 10:19Speaker 2: you'll be happy on Friday. And then on Friday afternoon,
- 10:23Speaker 2: out of nowhere we got we got Vince Carter, and
- 10:25Speaker 2: Vince Carter saved the season and it was a great net.
- 10:28Speaker 1: On that note, talk about the retirement of Vince Carter,
- 10:31Speaker 1: what that meant to see that? I don't know if
- 10:33Speaker 1: you were there for that or.
- 10:34Speaker 2: No, I wasn't there. I watched it. A deserving, a
- 10:39Speaker 2: deserving retirement of a guy who was a good guy,
- 10:41Speaker 2: I mean, a really good guy. Obviously a great player,
- 10:46Speaker 2: and you know, he thanked everybody, not only the not
- 10:50Speaker 2: only the upper echelons in the organization, and uh, playing
- 10:55Speaker 2: with the great Jason Kidd Hall of Famer, but yeah,
- 11:00Speaker 2: I mean he played with he played with all those guys.
- 11:03Speaker 2: He worked hard, he never took games off. He's a
- 11:07Speaker 2: deserving of getting his number fifteen retired in the rafters.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I mean I never forget it because I was sort
- 11:13Speaker 1: of around the nets because they were Yankee nets at
- 11:15Speaker 1: that point, right with mister Katz and we still miss
- 11:19Speaker 1: him every day, but he would be up there. And
- 11:21Speaker 1: then that partnership with the when it was Kittles, it
- 11:24Speaker 1: was Jefferson, it was Carter was I mean, those that
- 11:27Speaker 1: starting five, it's pretty legendary actually when you think about it.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Well, and they and the thing is, they all knew
- 11:32Speaker 2: how to run the fast break, you know, and they
- 11:34Speaker 2: knew Kid was going to get him the ball, and
- 11:36Speaker 2: that's what that's what made them great. You know, Kid
- 11:38Speaker 2: was unselfish. A team was unselfish, you know. Uh, when
- 11:45Speaker 2: you have time on YouTube, Vince Carter is dunk in
- 11:50Speaker 2: Miami right over Alonzo morning. I think it's the greatest
- 11:54Speaker 2: stunk in that history, at least in the time I was. Well.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I believe he won a couple of dunk competitions, doesn't well.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Yes, he did, and his famous stunk on Frederick Rice
- 12:06Speaker 2: in Vice in the Olympics, and then Nix ended up
- 12:09Speaker 2: drafted who did never play for them. So yeah, no,
- 12:15Speaker 2: it was a deserving it was a deserving retirement of
- 12:18Speaker 2: number fifteen. I'm and like I said, he's such a
- 12:20Speaker 2: good dude. He really is.
- 12:22Speaker 1: And our friend Dave German was at the premiere of
- 12:24Speaker 1: the documentary, so that's pretty awesome. I mean, yes, like
- 12:26Speaker 1: a very They really did a nice weekend for him
- 12:29Speaker 1: a couple of weekends ago. All right, now we got
- 12:32Speaker 1: to get to this weekend because it is the big game,
- 12:34Speaker 1: and already Goodell's facing criticism this week about the whole
- 12:39Speaker 1: refing situation and what and he calls absolutely ridiculous, which
- 12:43Speaker 1: he's gonna say. But here's my thought, Lou, I don't
- 12:47Speaker 1: mind if the Chiefs win, but if they win it
- 12:49Speaker 1: with clean game, not many close calls, I'll be happier.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Let me put it that way.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Yeah, and uh, I mean I think people people questioning
- 13:02Speaker 2: some of those calls in the Buffalo game and some
- 13:04Speaker 2: of those calls in the past. I mean, I think
- 13:06Speaker 2: it's it's legitimate. Do I think the game is fixed? No,
- 13:11Speaker 2: I don't think it's fixed. Do I think they lean
- 13:15Speaker 2: towards them? I do, I do lean, I think they
- 13:19Speaker 2: leaned towards them this week. This is a great game
- 13:22Speaker 2: coming up. Yes, what's she fatigued, Yes, we would like
- 13:25Speaker 2: to have seen Buffalo and Detroit. That would have been
- 13:28Speaker 2: that would have been fresh and new and exciting to
- 13:32Speaker 2: one of the two teams would have won their first
- 13:34Speaker 2: Super Bowl for sure.
- 13:37Speaker 1: But even the Commanders would have been interesting too. I
- 13:40Speaker 1: would love to see it in Washington.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Right, and because they hadn't been there, and you know
- 13:43Speaker 2: thirty three years with how.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Right and Jayden's electric. I mean that guy, he's more
- 13:49Speaker 1: than just as you say, rookie of the year. He's MVP.
- 13:51Speaker 2: I mean he's MVP caliber. This has been a great
- 13:57Speaker 2: game coming up. I mean, you got the and we've
- 14:00Speaker 2: been saying it all football season long, since we did
- 14:03Speaker 2: the preview. He goes not the best roster in the league. Alex,
- 14:09Speaker 2: it's better now than I thought in September there.
- 14:13Speaker 1: I mean, it's even better than when they beat the
- 14:15Speaker 1: Patriots a few years ago, and of course better when
- 14:18Speaker 1: they had that matchup a few years ago against the Chiefs. Correct,
- 14:22Speaker 1: So it'll be good. And it's amazing because Siriani was
- 14:25Speaker 1: on the hot seat last year. Now he's a game
- 14:27Speaker 1: away from winning this. I mean, football is funny, and
- 14:30Speaker 1: I think sports is funny like that. But here are
- 14:32Speaker 1: the two things. And you know the personnel better than me.
- 14:35Speaker 1: I'm guessing, but I wanted to say, kwalm breakout. Uh,
- 14:39Speaker 1: it's gonna be. And then the Hurts Mahomes thing is
- 14:42Speaker 1: is an attraction to the game, isn't it? Yes?
- 14:44Speaker 2: And if you remember two years ago until that fourth quarter,
- 14:50Speaker 2: and yes, the Chiefs got up, did get a favorable
- 14:53Speaker 2: call on a holding penalty on James Bradbury which led
- 14:56Speaker 2: to a touchdown. Jalen Hurts was in man and he
- 15:00Speaker 2: was gonna win the MVP. I mean for three hundred
- 15:02Speaker 2: and seventy four yards. He had a total of four touchdowns.
- 15:06Speaker 2: So and he and he's coming off his best game
- 15:08Speaker 2: against against the Commanders as he as he goes into
- 15:11Speaker 2: the Super Bowl. So, uh, I can't pick against Mahomes
- 15:18Speaker 2: until they lose.
- 15:20Speaker 1: And it could it be the egos of six years
- 15:24Speaker 1: ago or so when they pulled out that upset against
- 15:27Speaker 1: I guess it was seven years ago. Now that's crazy
- 15:29Speaker 1: against Brady and the Patriots. Can we see that kind
- 15:32Speaker 1: of game?
- 15:33Speaker 2: You could remember in that game Brady threw for over
- 15:36Speaker 2: five hundred yards and.
- 15:38Speaker 1: When they had they had you know, Nick Foles as
- 15:41Speaker 1: a receiver, and then he gets the cut, I mean
- 15:46Speaker 1: the Philly special. But let's look at the Barkley Pacheco
- 15:52Speaker 1: match up here. I feel like Barkley's obviously significantly favored.
- 15:56Speaker 1: But is the chief defense going to stop him? That
- 15:58Speaker 1: that's gonna be What do you see from them that
- 16:00Speaker 1: they could stop Barkley or no, Barkley.
- 16:05Speaker 2: If he crushes, if he gets twenty carries, he's going
- 16:08Speaker 2: to be well over one hundred yards. I don't care
- 16:10Speaker 2: who the Chiefs put out there, what defensive scheme Spagnola
- 16:17Speaker 2: puts together trying to stop him. The thing is, it's
- 16:22Speaker 2: a chief offensive Linelan be able to stop Jalen Carter,
- 16:25Speaker 2: Nolan Smith Junior, Jordan Davis ironically all from the University
- 16:29Speaker 2: of Georgia. Their defense is fast, it's young, it's better
- 16:34Speaker 2: than the defense of two years ago. It's if it
- 16:43Speaker 2: wasn't for Mahomes, I think the Eagles would win. But
- 16:48Speaker 2: I can't go against Mahomes. And I think the Eagles
- 16:51Speaker 2: gotta be ahead by ten, ten twelve points going to
- 16:55Speaker 2: the fourth quarter. I really do, because they can use Barkley.
- 16:59Speaker 1: To kill the and then they they do have some
- 17:02Speaker 1: weapons on the receiving end. I mean aj Brown comes
- 17:04Speaker 1: to mind.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Oh my god, they have yes, So, uh, that's what
- 17:11Speaker 2: I think. I think it's gonna be a terrific game.
- 17:14Speaker 2: If it comes down to kicking. Harrison Buckner is right now,
- 17:19Speaker 2: better you know, have some Butler Buter is better than
- 17:24Speaker 2: Josh than not Elliott. Elliott was a great kicker. He's
- 17:28Speaker 2: had a bad year, so.
- 17:30Speaker 1: That will now He's talk about the defense on because
- 17:33Speaker 1: everyone's gonna say, well, how many targets is Kelsey gonna have? Well,
- 17:37Speaker 1: Kelsey did not have a lot of targets in the
- 17:39Speaker 1: up until last week. I feel like, but I'm sure
- 17:42Speaker 1: they're gonna be all over him as well. I mean,
- 17:43Speaker 1: that defense is gonna, know, gonna have him in their playbook?
- 17:46Speaker 2: How many how many catches and zach Ertz have Yes,
- 17:50Speaker 2: I know what's fifty five to twenty three? But he
- 17:52Speaker 2: caught eleven balls last week. Does that show a weakness
- 17:59Speaker 2: in the Philadelphia defensive scheme or in their defensive bats?
- 18:03Speaker 1: Uh? By the way, who win them? That's well six
- 18:06Speaker 1: years ago, that's right.
- 18:08Speaker 2: So I would say that Kelsey is gonna have a
- 18:11Speaker 2: significant presence in this game.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Of course, everybody's talking about them, but talk about the
- 18:16Speaker 1: receivers that the Eagles are gonna have to look out
- 18:18Speaker 1: for as well.
- 18:18Speaker 2: I mean, well, uh, obviously they have Kelsey and they
- 18:25Speaker 2: also have their backup tight end who whenever Kelsey retirees,
- 18:27Speaker 2: is going to step right in. And Noah Gray, a
- 18:29Speaker 2: lot of people don't, you know, don't don't uh give
- 18:32Speaker 2: him the love that he deserves. Obviously a z if
- 18:35Speaker 2: you're worthy that their number one pick has been tremendous.
- 18:39Speaker 2: And then they come with these guys who they don't
- 18:42Speaker 2: throw a lot too. But the great DeAndre Hopkins will
- 18:45Speaker 2: make those key catches, Schuster will make those key catches.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Hollywood Brown is now back. Yeah, you know, it's it's
- 18:55Speaker 2: a balanced of course, it's a balanced offense.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Right, because Mahomes actually went to them a lot more,
- 19:01Speaker 1: you know from the stat line than he wanted to.
- 19:03Speaker 1: You know, he's been targeting to all these different guys.
- 19:05Speaker 1: So we'll have to see how that works out. But
- 19:08Speaker 1: obviously the Eagles got here because of their defense and
- 19:13Speaker 1: also just because they have a better team. I mean,
- 19:14Speaker 1: I think they have a better team than two years
- 19:16Speaker 1: ago yesterday. That makes it. But also Jalen's more mature
- 19:20Speaker 1: than he was a couple of years ago, you know,
- 19:22Speaker 1: so he's he's leading this team, all right, Louis. So
- 19:25Speaker 1: I don't want you to make a prediction. But any
- 19:28Speaker 1: crazy Radio Row stuff that you've seen already that maybe
- 19:31Speaker 1: we didn't catch our eye on this week.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Well I guess I guess some guy in Radio Row
- 19:34Speaker 2: was talking to the Jalen Hurts the other day, and
- 19:38Speaker 2: uh it was talking about how his girlfriend thinks that
- 19:40Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts is so good looking. How do you make
- 19:43Speaker 2: how do I get to be more good looking? Was
- 19:45Speaker 2: the uh, the announcer's question. As you know, there are
- 19:50Speaker 2: so many dumb questions on radio Row. And you went
- 19:53Speaker 2: to Radio Row when I was here in New York.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I did. It was it was quite an event,
- 19:57Speaker 1: but uh, when it was in twenty fourteen, and then
- 20:00Speaker 1: I guess uh Mahomes was asked if we to give
- 20:04Speaker 1: a Kerment impression. I mean these stupid questions that happened.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Yeah, there were. The questions are dumb. They talked Because
- 20:10Speaker 2: you want to know something. The thing that I just
- 20:12Speaker 2: brought up to you about that guy asking her, it's
- 20:14Speaker 2: about his look His girlfriend likes his looks. He's gonna
- 20:18Speaker 2: get clicks.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Yeah, get clicks.
- 20:20Speaker 2: He's it's getting replayed them with the fact that we're
- 20:22Speaker 2: talking about it now gives that guy credit, not credibility,
- 20:25Speaker 2: gives that guy attention.
- 20:27Speaker 1: So how about this real quick before we go to hockey.
- 20:30Speaker 1: And I know we don't really talk politics, but President
- 20:32Speaker 1: trobably the first president in Super in history to ever
- 20:36Speaker 1: attend the Super Bowl. This guy is everywhere and obviously
- 20:39Speaker 1: it might take attention away from Taylor. That's gonna be interesting, right,
- 20:42Speaker 1: how much.
- 20:44Speaker 2: That's that's what that's true. We might take some attention
- 20:47Speaker 2: away from, uh, from Taylor Swift, who obviously is going
- 20:51Speaker 2: to be there. I don't know where she is this sweet,
- 20:53Speaker 2: but she's definitely gonna be there. And Uh, yeah, it's
- 20:59Speaker 2: rte that President Trump is to be there. I think
- 21:00Speaker 2: that's I think.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I think it's fantastic the President's gone. That's very too.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Actually, Uh, I never thought of it that way. But
- 21:07Speaker 2: when until I said it, I said, oh, well, that's right.
- 21:10Speaker 2: No presidents ever gone to the Super Bowl. You think
- 21:12Speaker 2: a guy like Nixon who was a huge sports fan,
- 21:16Speaker 2: or or Bill Clinton would attend it.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Even Gerald Ford in his Michigan he loved.
- 21:21Speaker 2: No, he was an I think he was an All American.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Gerald Sward, Oh, you never went either. But we'll have
- 21:27Speaker 1: to see how that works out. Obviously it's gonna be
- 21:30Speaker 1: maybe taking a bit of attention away from the game,
- 21:32Speaker 1: but we'll have The game.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Is going to be so good. I mean, he got
- 21:35Speaker 2: two terrific teams. One thing to look out for. One
- 21:39Speaker 2: injury thing. Uh h Cam Jurgons to see. The center
- 21:45Speaker 2: for the Eagles got banged up in the in the
- 21:47Speaker 2: Commander game. Uh and he had to come out for
- 21:50Speaker 2: a significant point in the second half with a back injury.
- 21:55Speaker 2: One of the most underrated injuries in football that we
- 21:59Speaker 2: over look when the center gets hurt because he's handling
- 22:04Speaker 2: the ball on every snap.
- 22:06Speaker 1: And it's a chemistry with the quarterback, and.
- 22:08Speaker 2: The chemistry with the quarterback, chemistry with the entire offense,
- 22:11Speaker 2: chemistry with the offensive line. So if he has to
- 22:14Speaker 2: go out early, if he's not one hundred percent, that
- 22:17Speaker 2: could be something to look at. But I think it's
- 22:20Speaker 2: gonna be a great game. I'm not going against Mahomes,
- 22:24Speaker 2: so I guess you can say that's my prediction and
- 22:26Speaker 2: Philly loses, and like I said, if the Eagles, if
- 22:28Speaker 2: the Eagles want to win, they better be twelve to
- 22:30Speaker 2: fifteen points ahead going into the fourth quarter.
- 22:33Speaker 1: By the way, pat Riley has enabled them to use
- 22:35Speaker 1: a three peat trademark and all that.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I wonder how much they paid pat Riley for that.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Yeah, of course, NBA coaching legend and whatnot. But Lou,
- 22:43Speaker 1: I gotta ask you this, because I always have you
- 22:44Speaker 1: on for the history of all of this. Your favorite
- 22:47Speaker 1: and rule moment. I know mine because it happened seventeen
- 22:50Speaker 1: years ago.
- 22:51Speaker 2: With my favorite supermol Woman is Easy January twelfth, nineteen
- 22:55Speaker 2: sixteen NUS. That's seventeen point underdogs, and you know they
- 22:59Speaker 2: beat the the Colts sixteen to seven. It changed pro football.
- 23:04Speaker 2: I don't know if the Super Bowl would have been
- 23:06Speaker 2: what it is today without that victory. It was a
- 23:09Speaker 2: thrilling when it was the first win for the AFL
- 23:11Speaker 2: against the NFL, and the Packers had won the previous
- 23:15Speaker 2: two super Bowls, and they had won the last year
- 23:18Speaker 2: of the non super Bowl era, and I'm going to
- 23:21Speaker 2: give you a little history lesson on that when they
- 23:25Speaker 2: won the first one. This was the last non era
- 23:28Speaker 2: super Bowl year. They tied for the Western Conference championship
- 23:35Speaker 2: with the Baltimore Colts. The Colts had no quarterback. Both
- 23:40Speaker 2: of their quarterbacks, Johnny Unitas and Gary Quaso from New
- 23:45Speaker 2: Jersey from the Jersey Shore, got injured. They had to
- 23:50Speaker 2: play Tom Maddy, their running back, as quarterback in the
- 23:55Speaker 2: playoff game because they both finished tied for first out.
- 23:58Speaker 2: In those days, there was no wildcard. You finished first,
- 24:01Speaker 2: you moved on. So they played. They played Green Bay
- 24:06Speaker 2: to break the tie and the winner would be playing
- 24:09Speaker 2: the Jimmy Brown the Cleveland Browns next week. Okay, okay,
- 24:13Speaker 2: so it's ten to Somehow the Culture winning ten to seven,
- 24:20Speaker 2: but no quarterback. They returned to fumble a bart Star
- 24:23Speaker 2: fumble for a touchdown. Shinnick, the linebacker Don Shinnick, the
- 24:28Speaker 2: linebacker we turned for a touchdown on the play, bart
- 24:31Speaker 2: Starr got injured. Their backup quarterback, Zeke Bratkowski came in
- 24:35Speaker 2: finished the game. Now, Zeke Brekhowski was a very very
- 24:39Speaker 2: good backup quarterback. Well, it's ten to seven. Late in
- 24:44Speaker 2: the game, Don Chandler, who used to play for the
- 24:47Speaker 2: Giants now was kicking for the Packers, lined up for
- 24:50Speaker 2: a field goal. I think it was thirty seven yards.
- 24:53Speaker 2: In those days, the goalposts were on the goal line,
- 24:56Speaker 2: not at the back of the end zone. He missed
- 25:01Speaker 2: wide right, but the officials, the officials under the goal
- 25:06Speaker 2: posts called it good so instead and they should have
- 25:11Speaker 2: lost the game ten to seven. Chandler, if you ever
- 25:14Speaker 2: lookated on YouTube, as soon as he kicked it, you
- 25:17Speaker 2: could see that in his body language he knew that
- 25:19Speaker 2: he missed it. And long story short, in overtime, Green
- 25:25Speaker 2: Bay wins it, or else they would not have won
- 25:29Speaker 2: three NFL championships in a row. So just a little
- 25:32Speaker 2: a little trivia and a little bit of history there.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Wow, that is uh, I mean, that's not even human.
- 25:38Speaker 1: That's just human error, right, So that's not it.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Was human era. And if if you if you look
- 25:42Speaker 2: at NFL films and they have the camera behind the
- 25:45Speaker 2: goal post. Oh you could see was wide right, which
- 25:48Speaker 2: actually led to them the next year. Uh, making the
- 25:52Speaker 2: goal post higher.
- 25:54Speaker 1: By the way, Shout out to the Ravens because the
- 25:56Speaker 1: Colts are still memorialized in Baltimore. You know they still
- 26:00Speaker 1: have those guys dress up in old Colts uniform. Is
- 26:03Speaker 1: very interesting.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Well they they I think they still use the old
- 26:06Speaker 2: Colts marching band too.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Maybe so. Now, now here's the other hot topic this week.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Bill Belichick, amongst others, are calling for the Lombardi Trophy
- 26:18Speaker 1: to call be called the Brady Trophy. Have you heard
- 26:20Speaker 1: about this?
- 26:21Speaker 2: Yes? I have.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Doesn't it drive you nuts? I mean, this is just
- 26:24Speaker 1: this was no that I am against this.
- 26:27Speaker 2: No, it's it. You're one hundred percent correct. Vince Lombardi
- 26:31Speaker 2: obviously is one of the reasons why the NFL is
- 26:33Speaker 2: what the NFL is today. Uh. He won the first
- 26:36Speaker 2: two Super Bowls. It's a Lombardi Trophy and should always be.
- 26:40Speaker 2: It should be one hundred years from now, it should
- 26:42Speaker 2: be the Lombardi Trophy. Give Brady something, should Brady get recognized,
- 26:47Speaker 2: I don't know, give an award and attached the name
- 26:51Speaker 2: to uh, you know, to his name to it Brady
- 26:55Speaker 2: MVP or something, yeah, something like that, you know. Again,
- 26:58Speaker 2: but the Lombardi Trophy is in my opinion, Sankra sang,
- 27:03Speaker 2: it really is.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Untouchable. Yeah, all right, Well, we'll have to see what
- 27:09Speaker 1: happens this weekend before I let you go, though, Lou.
- 27:12Speaker 1: This this week also, we got the Rangers heating up
- 27:15Speaker 1: every day, and we've talked about them a little bit,
- 27:17Speaker 1: but we're almost at that four Nations tournament, so Rangers
- 27:21Speaker 1: are in really good shape heading this tournament. Break guard
- 27:24Speaker 1: they well.
- 27:25Speaker 2: They are they they play played better. Obviously last week
- 27:29Speaker 2: we talked about the chaos in the Vancouver locker room,
- 27:34Speaker 2: and since we spoke last Vancouver took care of that
- 27:38Speaker 2: issue by trading JT. Miller to the Rangers. The Rangers
- 27:43Speaker 2: have won that trade. Yes, you know, Filipedo is a
- 27:47Speaker 2: very good player, but he's not on that level and
- 27:50Speaker 2: he's injury prone and he's asked concussion, so who knows,
- 27:53Speaker 2: hopefully will be healthy.
- 27:55Speaker 1: H JT.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Miller is what the Rangers needed. I think we'll see
- 28:00Speaker 2: he gives them scoring touch. He squit one hundred points
- 28:06Speaker 2: last year and he scored ninety nine, think the year before.
- 28:09Speaker 2: He's physical. He's Matt Rempy with talent.
- 28:14Speaker 1: I know you tell me that all fair too, But
- 28:16Speaker 1: he also is a legacy player. I mean he was
- 28:18Speaker 1: on the Rangers and became beloved here believe it or not,
- 28:21Speaker 1: before he got traded. I mean, the guy was the
- 28:23Speaker 1: future of the Rangers at one point. Now he's back
- 28:25Speaker 1: in a maybe more veteran role than he had when
- 28:29Speaker 1: he first was on the Rangers. I gotta say this
- 28:31Speaker 1: real quick before it lose my mind back to football
- 28:34Speaker 1: real quick. Is that it'd be interesting the NFC East
- 28:37Speaker 1: once again won the super Bowl against these dynastic teams.
- 28:40Speaker 1: I feel like we're the best conference because we always
- 28:42Speaker 1: beat these dynasty teams. I don't know what it is, lowly, but.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Well, that would be. That would be another NFC East
- 28:47Speaker 2: team beating a team of that has established a destiny.
- 28:53Speaker 2: But getting back to the Rangers, there's seven points to
- 28:57Speaker 2: have a playoff spot. Now they have games in hand
- 29:01Speaker 2: on Boston. I believe they have three on Boston and
- 29:06Speaker 2: then they have one on Tampa and tonight they play Boston.
- 29:11Speaker 2: As we're rerecording this on everybody where we're going this
- 29:14Speaker 2: on on Wednesday, so they gotta win games, but their
- 29:20Speaker 2: margin for ERA is thin, just like for the Islanders,
- 29:25Speaker 2: who have somehow won eleven out of fourteen with all
- 29:28Speaker 2: kinds of injuries.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Man, I love that guy. He can coach his way
- 29:32Speaker 1: up a paperbag because he's that bit of a coach.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Well right now he's doing that because he doesn't have
- 29:38Speaker 2: his best offensive player, and who knows, he may not
- 29:40Speaker 2: have him for the rest of the year. I don't
- 29:42Speaker 2: know if Barzel when he blocked that shot the other
- 29:45Speaker 2: night in Tampa, broke his kneecamp. But you know, the
- 29:49Speaker 2: NHL never tells you about injuries, and you know they're
- 29:54Speaker 2: down defenceman, so that you're right, was done a tremendous jobs.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Brokan's been fantastic for them, and uh, we'll see. I
- 30:03Speaker 2: don't think they're gonna make it. I don't know if
- 30:07Speaker 2: the Rangers are gonna make it. I mean I really don't. Uh,
- 30:11Speaker 2: And we'll see the trade deadlines in March seventh, so
- 30:14Speaker 2: we'll see what they do or even the devils. Uh
- 30:18Speaker 2: see what the devil's Islanders and Rangers do. What they
- 30:21Speaker 2: come up towards the trade deadline, but makes it very,
- 30:24Speaker 2: very makes it for an interesting post four Nations tournament.
- 30:29Speaker 1: And the Devils are such an interesting team because with
- 30:31Speaker 1: Hughes they're still they're there. I mean they're right there.
- 30:35Speaker 1: I feel like.
- 30:35Speaker 2: They're right there. My worry for the Devils. They have
- 30:39Speaker 2: tons of talent. Are they mature enough?
- 30:43Speaker 1: Nico Hornon man, he's he is another guy, I say,
- 30:45Speaker 1: the future of the Red Devil.
- 30:47Speaker 2: No, No, and he's injured right now. They got to
- 30:50Speaker 2: get Hatcher back and they probably will. Well they will.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Actually that break helps a lot of a lot of
- 30:57Speaker 2: the teams. They gotta get a j. March from back.
- 31:01Speaker 1: And Mink is playing in the Four Nations. Maybe I'll
- 31:03Speaker 1: help to get his shot back a little bit.
- 31:05Speaker 2: I think there's four Rangers in the in the Four
- 31:08Speaker 2: Nations and only only uh Brock Nelson's playing for Team USA.
- 31:13Speaker 2: For the Islanders, of course, Jack Hughes is playing uh And.
- 31:17Speaker 1: I was looking at tickets. It's expensive to get to
- 31:19Speaker 1: these games, by the way, It's not it's not.
- 31:21Speaker 2: No, it's it's like a Stanley Cup final. Every one
- 31:25Speaker 2: of those games.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Well, you know my real quick. My dad in ninety
- 31:28Speaker 1: six when they did the World Cup, he took me
- 31:31Speaker 1: down there he took me to Montreal, which I see
- 31:33Speaker 1: is having this is a venue for this. And he
- 31:36Speaker 1: took me down to Philly and we were behind the
- 31:38Speaker 1: sweetest bench, speaking of Zavanajet. We're by the sweetest bench
- 31:41Speaker 1: and the coach reaches over and gives me a little
- 31:43Speaker 1: pin of the okay.
- 31:46Speaker 2: I went to game one USA USA against Canada and
- 31:51Speaker 2: it was the game that the only game in the
- 31:53Speaker 2: two AS three that US they lost when Canada was
- 31:56Speaker 2: blatantly there was no remember there was no replay in
- 31:58Speaker 2: those days, blatantly off side scored the winning goal in overtime.
- 32:01Speaker 2: And then nobody thought that USA would win both games
- 32:05Speaker 2: in Montreal, and they did and Rick To was spectacular.
- 32:10Speaker 2: He was the MVP at the tournament.
- 32:12Speaker 1: By the way, shout out to the juniors who won
- 32:14Speaker 1: their you know going and that. You know, when you're
- 32:18Speaker 1: watching hockey and you're a big fan, you follow that
- 32:20Speaker 1: because you want to see what the kids are that
- 32:21Speaker 1: are up and coming.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Right, Well, a couple and some guys are drafted by
- 32:24Speaker 2: the Islanders, some guys draft by the Rangers, some body
- 32:26Speaker 2: the Devils, So yeah, you have an interest that way,
- 32:28Speaker 2: and us Wade went back to.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Back, so very interesting. All right, one last thing before
- 32:33Speaker 1: we end today, when are these leagues gonna realize betting
- 32:39Speaker 1: linking with betting is not the answer. It is gonna
- 32:42Speaker 1: take an MLB player being suspended again and maybe kicked
- 32:46Speaker 1: out of the league. Now it's happening in the umpiring
- 32:48Speaker 1: world with the guy who called the perfect game as
- 32:51Speaker 1: an umpire. I've never heard that one before until recently.
- 32:55Speaker 1: But one of these leagues are gonna learn, lou you
- 32:57Speaker 1: can't match up and then expect these guys not to
- 33:00Speaker 1: do something.
- 33:02Speaker 2: It's it's really unbelievable how they have allowed betting to
- 33:11Speaker 2: become such a part of sports. And I know I'm
- 33:15Speaker 2: not I know I mentioned this see in the past.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Back in the early nineties when New Jersey want to
- 33:20Speaker 2: legalize sports betting, David Stern had had us write a
- 33:24Speaker 2: letter to the Senator Bill Bradley, former NBA player, former
- 33:30Speaker 2: Nick Great Hall of Famer, to fight against against sports betting.
- 33:36Speaker 2: And there was no sports betting in New Jersey. Now
- 33:39Speaker 2: you see it on TV, you see it during games,
- 33:42Speaker 2: if you go on ESPN, if you go onto the
- 33:45Speaker 2: ESPN website. More talking about mahome betting, mahomes versus Jalen
- 33:54Speaker 2: hurts on a bating angle than on on what's going
- 33:57Speaker 2: to happen during the game on the field. It's really disconcerting.
- 34:01Speaker 2: And yes, there's no doubt about it. You've gonna see
- 34:04Speaker 2: more and more people involved in the game, players, coaches,
- 34:08Speaker 2: umpires who are going to maybe step over the line
- 34:13Speaker 2: and might even commit some kind of betting violation as
- 34:17Speaker 2: far as league rules go, that they're not they're not
- 34:19Speaker 2: even aware about. Yes, it's a it's a problem. It's
- 34:22Speaker 2: a problem.
- 34:22Speaker 1: And I always go back to this. You know, the
- 34:24Speaker 1: first MLB team to open up a sports book in
- 34:29Speaker 1: their stadium was Cincinnati. Okay, that's that is just egregious.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Pete did Pete Rose file the first bet?
- 34:40Speaker 1: Oh Man? And I know that debate is gonna keep.
- 34:42Speaker 1: You know, we just were at Hall of Fame signings
- 34:44Speaker 1: and you know, Paul Pete Rose is really good at
- 34:47Speaker 1: those different events. He go out to all these different things.
- 34:49Speaker 1: He was great, love him, the fans loved him.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Do I think he paid his debt to society should
- 34:55Speaker 2: they have to be put in the Hall of Fame
- 34:57Speaker 2: before before he passed away. There's no doubt about it.
- 35:00Speaker 2: I do, But uh, you know, let's face it, there's
- 35:06Speaker 2: guys in there who had questionable character doing worse things
- 35:12Speaker 2: than people did.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Knowing that this guy got fired right as an unmelobi umpire,
- 35:18Speaker 1: Does that concern you that we have to look closer
- 35:20Speaker 1: at how they call these games now? Is that going
- 35:22Speaker 1: to be a scrutiny now.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Or well, it puts. It puts something in every fan's mind,
- 35:27Speaker 2: that's for sure, no question about that. Absolutely it does.
- 35:32Speaker 1: And I think the second time in my lifetime a
- 35:35Speaker 1: ref or an umpire has been fired. Thinking about the
- 35:38Speaker 1: Donnahie scandal too, I mean, it's been it goes on
- 35:41Speaker 1: and probably don't know about it.
- 35:43Speaker 2: So does go on. I mean, and that is the
- 35:47Speaker 2: worst thing that can happen to a sport. Look, if
- 35:52Speaker 2: we think the NFL, the NBA, any pro league is
- 35:55Speaker 2: like the world is World Wrestling, it will never watch
- 36:00Speaker 2: it again. One of the reasons we watched these games
- 36:02Speaker 2: is because of because it's reality TV. Sports is the
- 36:06Speaker 2: original reality television. That's why we love it. But if
- 36:11Speaker 2: we knew, if we knew it was being rigged.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Look at this, If we knew every umpire was trying
- 36:18Speaker 1: to avoid the seventh inning because Reggie Jackson was about
- 36:19Speaker 1: to ask it the queen we we be?
- 36:23Speaker 2: That is correct.
- 36:24Speaker 3: That's why I think of I mean like the vision
- 36:28Speaker 3: I had was was was Hoburg behind him play Not
- 36:31Speaker 3: to make light of this, but it was like a
- 36:32Speaker 3: gun to his head to make every call perfect?
- 36:35Speaker 1: Like what was going on with that? You know?
- 36:36Speaker 2: A great a great scene in a great movie.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Oh my god, fantastic? All right, Lou On that note.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Terminalo's take. The Big Game, the super Bowl coming up
- 36:46Speaker 1: this weekend. You'll be watching from home, I'm guessing right,
- 36:49Speaker 1: I will be. You're not checking to fan Fest presented
- 36:52Speaker 1: by Verizon and met Le.
- 36:54Speaker 2: I'm not doing that because I like to concentrate on
- 36:57Speaker 2: the game and.
- 36:58Speaker 1: That you're a note taker? Rates are you? Literally?
- 37:00Speaker 3: Right now?
- 37:00Speaker 2: I'll take I'll take notes. I will take some notes.
- 37:04Speaker 1: Now you got a podcast to come to talk about it?
- 37:05Speaker 1: How cool is that?
- 37:07Speaker 2: All right?
