- 0:14Speaker 1: should know. Excited to have not one, but two guests
- 0:18Speaker 1: joining me today. From Trail Life USA, we have Jason
- 0:21Speaker 1: and we have Chris. And we're going to start with Chris.
- 0:24Speaker 1: First of all, you guys have a fun event coming
- 0:25Speaker 1: up this weekend. Tell me a little bit about the event.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Sure. So we are just hitting off the new school year.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Trail Life's just starting up for the year. So we're
- 0:35Speaker 2: going to be at Falls Park Picnic Shelter on Sunday.
- 0:40Speaker 2: And it starts at 5 o'clock. We're going to do
- 0:42Speaker 2: a potluck. Anyone interested in Trail Life, this is where
- 0:46Speaker 2: they come to hear all about Trail Life, get all
- 0:48Speaker 2: the information about the year, and it's what we call
- 0:51Speaker 2: our onboarding. So we tell you everything you need to know.
- 0:54Speaker 2: One great thing about Trail Life 1613 is that once
- 0:59Speaker 2: we do the onboarding, it doesn't cost the family hundreds
- 1:02Speaker 2: of dollars to belong to Trail Life in a year.
- 1:05Speaker 2: We do major fundraising throughout the year. The cost is
- 1:08Speaker 2: very low to families. It costs you about $ 50 to
- 1:11Speaker 2: get in. to register and the troop takes care of
- 1:15Speaker 2: the rest after that.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I love that. I think that's really, really cool. Jason,
- 1:19Speaker 1: let's talk about Trail Life USA. For folks that are going, okay,
- 1:21Speaker 1: I've seen the name, I've heard the name, but I
- 1:22Speaker 1: don't know what that is. Explain to people what Trail
- 1:25Speaker 1: Life USA actually is.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Well, Trail Life USA is a Christ-centered, boy-focused, traditional scouting organization.
- 1:34Speaker 3: We believe that Christ is at the center of everything
- 1:36Speaker 3: and we bring him into our program too. Spider likes
- 1:40Speaker 3: to tell a story about carrot cake and I think
- 1:42Speaker 3: that's a great example. You know, kids, carrots are good
- 1:46Speaker 3: for you. Carrots are the gospel. But kids have a
- 1:48Speaker 3: hard time just sitting down and eating a plate of carrots.
- 1:51Speaker 3: And Chris, would you mind explaining that to them? Sure.
- 1:54Speaker 2: So with carrot cake, we're taking the carrot, right? And
- 1:57Speaker 2: that is your relationship with Jesus Christ, what you know
- 2:00Speaker 2: about how Christ works in the world. And we take
- 2:03Speaker 2: all those carrots and we break them up into small pieces.
- 2:06Speaker 2: And then we mix it in with things the boys
- 2:08Speaker 2: really enjoy doing. And so we're mixing that in throughout
- 2:11Speaker 2: the whole program and throughout the day or whatever tasks
- 2:16Speaker 2: we are doing. to show where God is in the world. And,
- 2:19Speaker 2: you know, who doesn't like a good carrot cake, right?
- 2:22Speaker 2: And it's a lot easier to digest that and to
- 2:25Speaker 2: see what we're trying to tell the boys and what
- 2:28Speaker 2: we're trying for them to learn.
- 2:30Speaker 1: The thing that I really like about that example is
- 2:31Speaker 1: it's a way for people to, you know, be invited
- 2:34Speaker 1: into this, to be a part of this, and they're getting...
- 2:37Speaker 1: the gospel, but they're getting it in such a fun
- 2:40Speaker 1: way that it's something they probably look forward to. Because,
- 2:42Speaker 1: you know, when I was a kid, I'm sure a
- 2:44Speaker 1: lot of people were this way. When they were kids,
- 2:45Speaker 1: they're like, well, I got to go to church. I
- 2:46Speaker 1: don't want to go to church. But if I could
- 2:48Speaker 1: have done this. Instead of, you know, sitting in a
- 2:51Speaker 1: pew listening to some old guy talk, you know, this
- 2:53Speaker 1: would have been a whole lot more fun. And I'm
- 2:55Speaker 1: experiencing it with my friends, and I'm experiencing it doing
- 2:59Speaker 1: fun things that I look forward to do, some things
- 3:01Speaker 1: that maybe I'm longing to do and I don't get
- 3:03Speaker 1: a chance to do in my real everyday life. So
- 3:06Speaker 1: I love the fact that you guys are giving kids
- 3:07Speaker 1: the opportunity to do this.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Yeah, our goal is to make it Christ-centered, but not
- 3:13Speaker 3: make it feel like school or church. Kids get enough
- 3:17Speaker 3: of that as it is.
- 3:18Speaker 2: And we're teaching life skills along the way. You know,
- 3:21Speaker 2: it's more than just camping and how to set up
- 3:23Speaker 2: a tent or how to cook, which we do do.
- 3:26Speaker 2: But we show them how they have to be responsible
- 3:28Speaker 2: for their own lives and any action they do, you know,
- 3:31Speaker 2: how it affects other people. And who's better to do
- 3:34Speaker 2: that with boys their own age? I love that.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Again, Trail Life USA. It's a group that's been around
- 3:40Speaker 1: a while and it's been in Sioux Falls for a while.
- 3:42Speaker 1: There's a couple of different troops in this area. And
- 3:44Speaker 1: if you would like to get involved, what a great
- 3:46Speaker 1: opportunity this Sunday. Jason, tell me again, what time is this?
- 3:50Speaker 1: Where is this? And what do I do? Do I
- 3:51Speaker 1: just show up or do I need to reach out
- 3:53Speaker 1: in advance?
- 3:53Speaker 3: Oh, just show up. It's going to be Sunday, August
- 3:57Speaker 3: 30th at 5 p.m. Falls Park Picnic Pavilion. We're going
- 4:02Speaker 3: to have We're going to have a little slingshot range
- 4:05Speaker 3: set up. We're going to have a little hatchet range
- 4:08Speaker 3: set up. Toy hatchet, of course. And we'll probably have
- 4:12Speaker 3: some other games there, too.
- 4:14Speaker 2: And, of course, some good food. Some burgers and hot
- 4:17Speaker 2: dogs and salads and all that stuff.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Well, I think it sounds like a whole lot of fun.
- 4:20Speaker 1: I'm going to share the event that you guys set
- 4:22Speaker 1: up on Facebook on our page to make it really
- 4:25Speaker 1: easy for people to find. If somebody would like to
- 4:27Speaker 1: learn more, there is a website I can go to. Chris,
- 4:29Speaker 1: what is that website once again?
