Graduate students in nursing and other health fields are facing tighter federal loan limits as a new court order reclassifies some programs as “professional degrees” — temporarily until December. Starting fall 2026, students in these programs could borrow up to $50K annually with a $200K lifetime cap, while those in nonprofessional programs get capped at $20.5K/year and $100K total.
