- 0:00Hey everyone, and welcome back to Travel Tip Tuesday with the Travel Mug Podcast.
- 0:05Today, Meggan, I want to share how I saved $533 on my hotel stay in Toronto back in November.
- 0:16Please do share your ways.
- 0:17Yes, yes.
- 0:18All right.
- 0:19So I mentioned in, the Christmas in Toronto episode that we splurged a bit and we stayed at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, which was a hundred percent worth it.
- 0:30But when I originally booked the room back in August, the rate was around $530 per night for a total of $1,310.95 for two nights, which included the tax and the fees.
- 0:46So like, that's pretty pricey.
- 0:49And I was like, okay, it's worth it.
- 0:51Like it's gonna be fine.
- 0:53I had booked a king room, which was refundable up until one day prior to arrival, and from August to November I just basically forgot about it, like put it out of my mind.
- 1:05So then four days before we were headed to Toronto, I went on the Fairmount website to check the rates again.
- 1:12I don't know why I did this.
- 1:13I've never done this before that I was just guided to the website and to my surprise.
- 1:20I could book a queen room for$322 per night, which totaled$778.08 for the two nights.
- 1:30Which definitely wasn't available before'cause I would've booked that, right?
- 1:36So yes, we did downgrade from a king to a queen.
- 1:40We, not a big deal to me, like we sleep on a queen bed at home, uh, and we saved $532 and 87 cents.
- 1:48So because my, my original, , reservation was, uh, refundable cancelable until the day before, I just canceled the original reservation and rebooked the queen room at a lower rate.
- 2:00I thought about calling to do this, uh, but I was lazy and I didn't want to call.
- 2:07Who wants to talk on the phone.
- 2:08I know.
- 2:09I was like, oh, how long will it take me to get through this?
- 2:11I don't wanna do this anyway.
- 2:13Will this work every time?
- 2:15Absolutely not.
- 2:16We were traveling an off season.
- 2:18We were in Toronto in November.
- 2:19It's likely that the rooms just weren't booked, and so they were being offered at a lower rate.
- 2:24But it's worth checking.
- 2:26I mean, a search that took me less than a minute saved me over $500.
- 2:30So.
- 2:31As soon as Jenn told me she reached out and she's like, oh my goodness, I saved this.
- 2:35I'm like, well, this is a travel tip Tuesday if I have ever seen one.
- 2:39Wild.
- 2:39So, uh, obviously you've never done this before.
- 2:42Do you think that you might try it in the future?
- 2:46I mean, sure, I'd like to save $500.
- 2:48I think that, I think it is one of those things that, like you said, it took you a minute Yeah.
- 2:53you can, if you're staying in a hotel proper and you and the rates, uh, you know, fluctuate, take the time and do it.
- 3:00So yes, I would definitely do that going forward, especially after this travel tip.
- 3:04Yeah.
- 3:05Yeah.
- 3:06So that is it.
