Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Whoa one of my favorite players from the New York Knicks.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Jalen Bronson.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Jalen Brunson, the winner of the Kia Clutch Player Absorbed
- 0:12Speaker 2: Year Award.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Yes, and we understand he's already. He's already on the headset.
- 0:17Speaker 3: He was very good. He was on TV last night.
- 0:20Speaker 3: I saw him. Wow.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yes, he gets a lot of airtime. Jaln's got a
- 0:25Speaker 2: quizzical look on his face, like you saw him on
- 0:28Speaker 2: TV last night.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Did you do Colbert last night?
- 0:32Speaker 4: No, that was like two weeks ago.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Oh, they showed they showed it last night. What I'm saying,
- 0:38Speaker 3: they showed it last night. My bad. I apologize, yead
- 0:44Speaker 3: it comes to work.
- 0:46Speaker 2: That's a good way to start things on it anyway.
- 0:48Speaker 2: So Jalen, let's talk about this. Are you born a
- 0:50Speaker 2: clutch player? Do you have the clutch gene or can
- 0:53Speaker 2: you develop into it?
- 0:55Speaker 4: I think I think some people are born into it.
- 0:58Speaker 3: I think I think I had to learn.
- 1:01Speaker 4: I learned back in high school, kind of got better
- 1:06Speaker 4: and better at each stage.
- 1:07Speaker 3: And here we are.
- 1:10Speaker 5: I saw the training tape of how your father used
- 1:12Speaker 5: to training when you were a little kid. And of
- 1:14Speaker 5: course he's on the coaching staff. Do you guys still
- 1:16Speaker 5: have the same relationship again, he's still talk to you
- 1:18Speaker 5: that way now that you're mister Clutch.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Yeah, he can.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Still talk to me that way. But I think I
- 1:25Speaker 4: have a little bit more married to talk back. So
- 1:27Speaker 4: back then I couldn't do so, but now I can.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Now I can a little bit.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Hey, you know, the first two games of this series
- 1:35Speaker 1: has been really great.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Both games have been great.
- 1:39Speaker 1: What do you guys need to really improve upon going
- 1:43Speaker 1: into game three in a hostile environment in Detroit?
- 1:47Speaker 4: Most importantly, just starting with guys, I think they've got
- 1:51Speaker 4: the better of us starting the game first games of
- 1:54Speaker 4: one and two, and we've had to climb back both games,
- 1:57Speaker 4: and obviously the other night you didn't do so by
- 1:59Speaker 4: finishing off, But we gotta start off well. They're playing
- 2:03Speaker 4: way too well, way too fast for us to come
- 2:05Speaker 4: out slow. So I think it's really important for us.
- 2:07Speaker 6: When you when you talk about clutch players, Jayleen, you
- 2:10Speaker 6: talk about most people think about scoring. What do you
- 2:14Speaker 6: look at this award as going into other than just scoring.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Just finding a way to win.
- 2:23Speaker 4: I think that's just most important. I mean, you can
- 2:28Speaker 4: have clutch plays, but I mean that doesn't really mean anything.
- 2:31Speaker 4: If you don't win, I think the winning part is
- 2:33Speaker 4: most important for me.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Jayleen, We congratulate you on the on the award. We
- 2:38Speaker 2: look forward to seeing you on Colbert again tonight. And
- 2:43Speaker 2: and I was.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Not supposed to know it was a rerun.
- 2:46Speaker 6: You didn't realize it was a subject matter he was
- 2:50Speaker 6: talking about.
- 2:51Speaker 3: He was like, yeah, we about get ready for the playoffs.
- 2:53Speaker 1: No, no, no, I actually was actually watching the hockey game.
- 2:55Speaker 3: I didn't have the volume. Okay, all right.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Great, Okay, that's way too much.
- 3:00Speaker 3: I'm on that whole thing.
- 3:01Speaker 2: So congratulations, congrats, and good luck the Reds in the playoffs. Mike,
- 3:08Speaker 2: always good, always good talking to you. By the way,
- 3:11Speaker 2: Jalen Brunson number one, Joker was number two, Anthony Edwards
- 3:16Speaker 2: number three. Others Trey Young fourth, Steph Curry fifth, Darius
- 3:21Speaker 2: Garland sixth, Lebron James seventh, Shaye Gildos, Alexander eighth. And
- 3:28Speaker 2: the way that worked was every coach in the league
- 3:33Speaker 2: submitted a list of five names UH for clutch Player
- 3:36Speaker 2: of the Year. So if everybody had picked different guys,
- 3:41Speaker 2: you would have had what one hundred and fifty one
- 3:44Speaker 2: hundred and fifty names on there, but there were a
- 3:48Speaker 2: lot of There were a lot of similarities on the ballots,
- 3:50Speaker 2: so the final field was twenty players. Twenty players for
- 3:53Speaker 2: Clutch Player of the Year, and Jalen Brunson earned.
- 3:59Speaker 4: That.
- 3:59Speaker 6: What makes him a tough cover is his ability to
- 4:01Speaker 6: play a three levels. He shoots the three ball, he
- 4:04Speaker 6: drives to the basket, but then done something that only
- 4:07Speaker 6: you know. He's a I would say undersized guard even
- 4:10Speaker 6: though he's about six y two.
- 4:12Speaker 3: He posts up.
- 4:13Speaker 6: The only other guy I ever seen do that and
- 4:15Speaker 6: be six to a lower lower and really post up
- 4:17Speaker 6: on consistent basis was Tim Hardaway, not not junior, but
- 4:21Speaker 6: the dad. When he labeled Gold and State, he used
- 4:24Speaker 6: to post up and five. Don't forget about Vena Johnson either,
- 4:27Speaker 6: one of the most underrated players. But Tim Hardaway man,
- 4:29Speaker 6: he used to know the hell out of me because
- 4:31Speaker 6: he he would post our guards up and I was like, y'all, man,
- 4:35Speaker 6: get that little man out the paint. I mean, he
- 4:37Speaker 6: they had a really, they had a really when they
- 4:39Speaker 6: had to run TMC.
- 4:40Speaker 3: That was beautiful to watch. Yep, little man get out
- 4:43Speaker 3: the paint.
