Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Ryan Bridge: We should be worried about the message behind Starmer's resignation
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: So Keir Starmer's resignation has come as no surprise to
- 0:03Speaker 1: those who listen to this or pretty much any show
- 0:05Speaker 1: on this station. But what should worry us, I think
- 0:09Speaker 1: is why. Sure he was a dud, Sure he was
- 0:11Speaker 1: a bit bit of a goofball, he wasn't cool at all,
- 0:15Speaker 1: But on immigration he was at least trying. Illegal crossings
- 0:20Speaker 1: were down eighty five percent off their peaks. Crime was
- 0:23Speaker 1: falling in the UK, the economy stumbling but not fallen.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Over the Times newspaper now that I reckon with the
- 0:29Speaker 1: headline panicking politicians addicted to iPhones, ourster prime minister. That's
- 0:34Speaker 1: basically what happened here. In ten years. They've had Cameron,
- 0:38Speaker 1: that have had May, they've had Johnson, they've had Trust,
- 0:40Speaker 1: they've had Sooner remember that Starma, and now shortly burn him.
- 0:44Speaker 1: He'll probably end up just as loathed and hated as
- 0:47Speaker 1: the bloke who went before him. I don't think this
- 0:49Speaker 1: is just a politics thing, and certainly not just a
- 0:52Speaker 1: British thing, although they do like to wing. We humans
- 0:56Speaker 1: are undergoing an evolutionary metamorphosis into impatient and petulant children,
- 1:02Speaker 1: all of us. Yesterday, research has reported that kids can't
- 1:05Speaker 1: watch movies these days because their attention spans are too short,
- 1:10Speaker 1: and movies are meant to be fun. Musical albums are
- 1:13Speaker 1: a thing of the past. Even the idea of sitting
- 1:15Speaker 1: down and listening to an entire song is foreign to some.
- 1:18Speaker 1: A few seconds or hooks of a chorus on TikTok
- 1:21Speaker 1: passes as easy listening these days. Forget reading a book
- 1:26Speaker 1: for goodness sakes, Is it any wonder? The world is
- 1:28Speaker 1: chewing through political leaders like there's no tomorrow, and consuming
- 1:32Speaker 1: more content than the world.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Has ever in its history, Yet somehow end up dumber
- 1:37Speaker 2: than beforehand. You notice that, and the irony of Ai,
- 1:42Speaker 2: the Great Savior of the universe, the technological equivalent of
- 1:46Speaker 2: Andy Burnham, will save us time, will give us more
- 1:50Speaker 2: time to read and to watch movies, and to switch
- 1:55Speaker 2: political leaders. What on earth will we do with it all?
- 2:00Speaker 1: For more FAM earlier edition with Ryan Bridge, listen live
- 2:03Speaker 1: to Newstalk STB from five am weekdays, or follow the
- 2:07Speaker 1: podcast on iHeartRadio.
