- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to the favorites from the new Colin Cowherd led
- 0:13Speaker 1: volume and podcast network. I am Shad Milman from the
- 0:16Speaker 1: Action Network and it's Thursday. That means it's time to
- 0:20Speaker 1: enter the Thursday Thunderdome. On today's show, our special guests
- 0:26Speaker 1: will compete alongside my co host, my bff, my companion,
- 0:33Speaker 1: Professional Sports Better Simon Hunter, in an epic test of
- 0:37Speaker 1: wagers and wits that's made this show the most celebrated
- 0:41Speaker 1: sports betting adjacent trivia show in podcast history. Simon, my man,
- 0:49Speaker 1: my man, Chad. Just so we let them know. You
- 0:52Speaker 1: do skew the questions towards me. But I've yet to win,
- 0:55Speaker 1: and we're going on to week eight now, so I
- 0:58Speaker 1: am pretty terrible at this. That tries to help me out,
- 1:01Speaker 1: but like the game, but I am at end of
- 1:02Speaker 1: every round the brand of the game. Try always risk
- 1:05Speaker 1: all my points, and that has not worked out for
- 1:07Speaker 1: me at any time. Simon, that is true. I try
- 1:10Speaker 1: to make every every every question go your way. I
- 1:13Speaker 1: don't care how legendary the guests are or how much
- 1:18Speaker 1: time they've spent prepping. I want you to win. Today.
- 1:21Speaker 1: You will face two challengers. The first television personality author
- 1:26Speaker 1: legendary running back who spent a dazzling tenure career with
- 1:31Speaker 1: the New York Giants and has become a household name.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Literally in my house, it's the only other name we used.
- 1:39Speaker 1: We want to say something is being complimented. Mr Tiki Barber,
- 1:44Speaker 1: what's up, Chad? I thought you were gonna go with
- 1:47Speaker 1: the alliteration instead of saying a dazzling ten years, you
- 1:50Speaker 1: should have said a dazzling decade with the New York Giants.
- 1:53Speaker 1: And Simon, by the way, I did an event with
- 1:56Speaker 1: the Action Networks owned Darren Ravell. He hadn't won. He
- 1:59Speaker 1: beat me, So feel good about yourself, man, feel good.
- 2:02Speaker 1: It's true. It's totally true. Uh. And by the way,
- 2:05Speaker 1: I would have gone with with dazzling decade if the
- 2:08Speaker 1: script in front of me actually said dazzling decade instead
- 2:13Speaker 1: the producer he just wrote ten your career. You sound
- 2:16Speaker 1: like you sound like Mariah Carey. I was doing a
- 2:19Speaker 1: Fresh Air Fun event with her and she was the
- 2:21Speaker 1: MC and she was reading lauding somebody, and she's like,
- 2:25Speaker 1: I think this is true. I didn't write this. Ah. Yep,
- 2:28Speaker 1: thank you for joining us. Tiki our second guest as
- 2:31Speaker 1: a golf expert University of Florida alone and co star
- 2:35Speaker 1: of the beloved Action Network, showed the Gimme her weekly
- 2:39Speaker 1: betting picks have helped her drive chip and put her
- 2:43Speaker 1: way into America's heart. It's Amanda Rose. I'm so excited
- 2:48Speaker 1: to be here with you all, especially with Tiki. You know,
- 2:50Speaker 1: this is the second week in a row that I've
- 2:52Speaker 1: gotten to be on a zoom call in some capacity
- 2:54Speaker 1: with Tiki, So I don't know who he's piste off
- 2:56Speaker 1: in his life to deserve to have to be with
- 2:58Speaker 1: me twice in a row. It I'm excited to be here.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I'm very competitive, so I need to win. Like Tiki
- 3:04Speaker 1: has his athletic accolades, Chad, you have your professional accolades,
- 3:09Speaker 1: and Simon has his betting accolades, and I have nothing.
- 3:13Speaker 1: So I need to win this. I need a need it.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I want you to win so badly, only second to
- 3:20Speaker 1: Simon Hunter and maybe third to Tiki Barbera. I guarantee
- 3:25Speaker 1: you come in a top three place today. Here's how
- 3:27Speaker 1: the game is played today. You'll all answer two kinds
- 3:30Speaker 1: of questions. First, traditional trivia questions about sports, sports betting
- 3:34Speaker 1: in the world at large, second, completely subjective and totally
- 3:37Speaker 1: assinine open ended questions or prompts that I alone will judge.
- 3:42Speaker 1: As Simon noted, I will do my best to make
- 3:45Speaker 1: sure he wins. To accumulate points, you must answer the
- 3:48Speaker 1: trivia questions correctly, and also convince me that your responses
- 3:52Speaker 1: to those open ended prompts are better than the responses
- 3:57Speaker 1: from your opponents, because, just like sports betting, you can't
- 4:00Speaker 1: get him. All right, let's begin, So what would you
- 4:05Speaker 1: little maniacs like to do? First? Part one? Oh my god.
- 4:09Speaker 1: The NFL Draft aftermath the draft last week was crazy intense.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Of course, Tiki was a guest contestant on our game
- 4:18Speaker 1: show What's the Line with Darren Revel hosted buying Amanda Rose,
- 4:22Speaker 1: and the highly anticipated NFL Draft didn't disappoint, with plenty
- 4:26Speaker 1: of crazy storylines, gambling intrigue, and huge buffo better than
- 4:30Speaker 1: Oscar ratings Amanda. Betting markets went crazy on draft day
- 4:35Speaker 1: as rumors spread about the forty pick at number three.
- 4:39Speaker 1: The whispers and Simon Hunter were right, and QB tray
- 4:43Speaker 1: Lance flipped from a plus two fifty underdog to a
- 4:47Speaker 1: minus two fifty favorite before the Niners selected him. Now
- 4:53Speaker 1: San Francisco has two quarterbacks with small school roots. Jimmy
- 4:57Speaker 1: Garoppolo went to Eastern Illinois and Lance Rise from North
- 5:00Speaker 1: Dakota State. Okay, here's the question. A man without small
- 5:05Speaker 1: school roots is their coach Kyle Shanahan, who played college
- 5:09Speaker 1: football at this massive, massive program, the only Big twelve
- 5:16Speaker 1: school with its own television network. It is not Penn
- 5:23Speaker 1: State of Texas the Longhorn Network. Prairies, guys are huh
- 5:35Speaker 1: Big ten. Yeah, there's nothing you can do. I just
- 5:39Speaker 1: I my ears don't work. Um, it's fine not starting
- 5:42Speaker 1: with you to eke out the win. Simon linebacker Grant Steward,
- 5:47Speaker 1: who played at the University of Houston and hales from
- 5:50Speaker 1: nearby Conrow, was this year's Mr Irrelevant as the last
- 5:55Speaker 1: pick in the draft. Also irrelevant is whether Steward loves
- 5:59Speaker 1: the most famous song of this Houston based rapper, which
- 6:05Speaker 1: begins with the lyrics they see me rolling they hayten
- 6:09Speaker 1: patrolling and trying to catch me ride and dirty a millionaire,
- 6:15Speaker 1: They sell that is correct way to go. I knew
- 6:26Speaker 1: you would get the rap based question because I know
- 6:29Speaker 1: how much you love it. Chad. I'll dominate the show
- 6:31Speaker 1: if it's on mid two thousands of rap I know
- 6:33Speaker 1: you would, I know you would Tiki. For the fifteen
- 6:36Speaker 1: consecutive year, the good old Southeastern Conference dominated the NFL draft.
- 6:40Speaker 1: A record breaking sec players were taken, which is of
- 6:46Speaker 1: the entire draft. Coming in second place was this conference,
- 6:51Speaker 1: which had fifty one players drafted, including Notre Dame star
- 6:57Speaker 1: Liam Eikenberg. This is very interesting trick question. It is
- 7:02Speaker 1: because Notre Dame is an independent, along with b y
- 7:05Speaker 1: U and a few others, but they were a member
- 7:09Speaker 1: of the a c C. So I have to go
- 7:11Speaker 1: with my former conference as University of Virginia, lum, the
- 7:14Speaker 1: Atlantic Coast Conference. You are correct, and I kind of
- 7:19Speaker 1: feel like Matt Mitchell did it exactly that way, like
- 7:23Speaker 1: very much tried to trick you into not answering correctly,
- 7:28Speaker 1: but you are too smart for that. Dicky, you get
- 7:31Speaker 1: a point. Simon Hunter, you get a point. Amanda Rose,
- 7:34Speaker 1: you're gonna You're gonna make a big comeback, all right.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers was the talking draft night after rumors swirled
- 7:41Speaker 1: about a potential trade of the Broncos and Denver. Super
- 7:45Speaker 1: Bowl odds dropped from seventy to one to twelve to
- 7:47Speaker 1: one at some sports books. Rogers would reportedly consider hosting
- 7:52Speaker 1: Jeopardy full time in lieu of a return to the Packers.
- 7:55Speaker 1: A crazy turn of events. Your job here is to
- 7:58Speaker 1: pitch me an even crazier NFL career, jump select another
- 8:03Speaker 1: NFL superstar and another entertainment gig, and sell us on
- 8:08Speaker 1: why we need to make it happen. For example, Marshawn
- 8:13Speaker 1: Lynch should stop retiring and on retiring and just host
- 8:18Speaker 1: Cash Cab. I feel like if Tiki doesn't win this,
- 8:23Speaker 1: I don't know how he could be on this game
- 8:25Speaker 1: because we're catering to the original walk away from massive
- 8:31Speaker 1: NFL career for big entertainment. So how about an NFL
- 8:35Speaker 1: star walks away and goes and puts on Kinky Boots
- 8:38Speaker 1: on Broadway. That actually happened. Football great, and my former
- 8:42Speaker 1: teammate Kinky Barber's here to make a big announcement. I'm
- 8:46Speaker 1: doing Kinky Boots for a six week round. This is
- 8:48Speaker 1: my first time in public and red tall high heels
- 8:51Speaker 1: and come up to my time. That's right, That's totally right. Simon,
- 8:58Speaker 1: give me your answer. Let's let Tiki figure out which
- 9:01Speaker 1: one of his true life answers he can use and
- 9:03Speaker 1: then sign you can give me your answer first, So
- 9:07Speaker 1: mine simply because I just missed him. I miss Andrew Luck.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I miss everything about the guy, his flip phone, the
- 9:12Speaker 1: weird way talk. I can only imagine if he was
- 9:14Speaker 1: hosting like he's in the architect A show with him
- 9:17Speaker 1: just going around being like, oh yeah, there's the Golden
- 9:19Speaker 1: gay Bridge, look at those worries, and like, I would
- 9:22Speaker 1: just love to hear Andrew Luck breaking down architect I
- 9:24Speaker 1: missed that guy. So I'm gonna go to Andrew Luck.
- 9:27Speaker 1: All right, So you would like to have Andrew Luck
- 9:29Speaker 1: play again so he can retire and then go host
- 9:33Speaker 1: where he can critique architecture. That's a terrible fucking answer
- 9:35Speaker 1: because he's already retired. Yeah, there's no way you're winning
- 9:40Speaker 1: that one, and I want nothing more than you to win. Yes, okay,
- 9:43Speaker 1: I have a good one for you. So. I have
- 9:45Speaker 1: six kids and they range from eighteen almost nineteen is
- 9:49Speaker 1: about to go to Princeton, to a four year old
- 9:52Speaker 1: and my four year old. Obviously, my my second kids
- 9:54Speaker 1: are with my second wife. My four year old and
- 9:57Speaker 1: I watched a show that I haven't in years, The
- 10:01Speaker 1: Muppet Show. It would happen to be on one of
- 10:03Speaker 1: these streaming platforms and I want. I'm sitting there, God,
- 10:06Speaker 1: I missed the Muppets, man, I missed the Muppets. So
- 10:10Speaker 1: here's my here's what I'm going to offer. Pat Mahomes,
- 10:13Speaker 1: who has one of the greatest voices you've ever heard, unique,
- 10:16Speaker 1: great voices, and I saw this dub of him as
- 10:19Speaker 1: Kermit the Frog. So Pat Mahomes, he can moonlight, doesn't
- 10:23Speaker 1: have to retire, maybe he can partially retire. Uh needs
- 10:26Speaker 1: to bring back Jim himp Tenson's Muppets with the with
- 10:30Speaker 1: the old dudes in the in the balcony screaming down
- 10:33Speaker 1: with Fozzy's taking the stupid phone calls and Patrick Mahomes going,
- 10:37Speaker 1: hey guys, yeah, wait, what's what. Let's let's let's go
- 10:40Speaker 1: play some football tonight. Pat Mahomes as Kermit with the Muppets.
- 10:45Speaker 1: That needs to happen. My kids will love it. That
- 10:49Speaker 1: is a great answer. Not only did Tick get to
- 10:51Speaker 1: mention that he's got a smart kid going to Princeton,
- 10:55Speaker 1: which is fantastic, he also got to mention Patrick Mahomes
- 10:58Speaker 1: and he didn't even have to go into his Broadway career.
- 11:01Speaker 1: That is next level of research guys. Amanda, I don't know.
- 11:06Speaker 1: I'm really excited about this one. Okay, let's hear it.
- 11:08Speaker 1: I mean it's it's a I get fired after, but
- 11:11Speaker 1: we'll see. So I think Gronk should become a stripper,
- 11:14Speaker 1: now if that's the wrong type of entertainment, and I
- 11:20Speaker 1: was like, okay, so he could become a stripper in
- 11:23Speaker 1: the remake of Magic Mike, but it would be Magic
- 11:26Speaker 1: Gronk x x L. His signature move would be crushing
- 11:30Speaker 1: bud light lines between his thighs. But he would get
- 11:32Speaker 1: injured because one time he would forget. Instead of using
- 11:35Speaker 1: a can, he would use a bottle. So he'd be
- 11:37Speaker 1: sideline for a little bit, and then when he comes back,
- 11:40Speaker 1: he'll be better than ever. And he already has four
- 11:42Speaker 1: Super Bowl rings, right, and we know strippers like rings,
- 11:45Speaker 1: so it just depends. I'll think his fingers are to
- 11:47Speaker 1: see if it'll work. I gotta say, there are so
- 11:54Speaker 1: many levels of creativity there. I thought Tiki was going
- 11:58Speaker 1: to run away with this, and Amanda, uh, you just
- 12:01Speaker 1: proved in about sixty seconds the levels of double entendres
- 12:08Speaker 1: and where your head has to go to imagine in
- 12:11Speaker 1: picture everything you just said about Grunk become if you
- 12:15Speaker 1: had just said Grunk becoming a stripper, which he's halfway
- 12:19Speaker 1: to doing in practically every video he's ever done that
- 12:22Speaker 1: is on social media. You added rings, you added can crushing,
- 12:26Speaker 1: you added a movie role. Well well done, Amanda Rose.
- 12:31Speaker 1: That was fucking fantastic. You definitely win that. You know what.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I want to go off scripture for a second, because
- 12:37Speaker 1: obviously we've alluded to the fact Tiki had a Pro
- 12:40Speaker 1: Bowl career playing. You left it at the peak of
- 12:43Speaker 1: your game, and you went on to an incredibly fruitful
- 12:47Speaker 1: career in media and entertainment since then, and you did
- 12:51Speaker 1: not have to retire. Was there any moment after you
- 12:53Speaker 1: retired where someone called you where you considered or were
- 12:56Speaker 1: tempted to come back immediately immediately after I retired, this
- 13:01Speaker 1: is probably two weeks before I start at the Today Show.
- 13:04Speaker 1: A right, I'm getting ready to go sit next to
- 13:06Speaker 1: Matt Lauer and Meredith and John Druden calls me through
- 13:11Speaker 1: my brother. Obviously, they put me on a plane, flew
- 13:15Speaker 1: me to Tampa and tried to get me to come
- 13:17Speaker 1: out of retirement right after I retired. This is oh seven,
- 13:20Speaker 1: So I retired at the end of oh six, oh seven,
- 13:22Speaker 1: Season oh seven. He flies me down and says, I
- 13:25Speaker 1: need a guy like you. Was gonna walk in the
- 13:27Speaker 1: locker room. The guys are gonna respect the hell out
- 13:29Speaker 1: of him. You we can win, and we need your
- 13:32Speaker 1: type of energy and production. Right everybody in the NFL.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I have a dream of winning a super Bowl. I'm
- 13:39Speaker 1: really not into dreams. Okay, I'm in nightmar We're not
- 13:42Speaker 1: trying to go to the Gator Bowl. We're trying to
- 13:44Speaker 1: go to the super Bowl. And to do that you
- 13:45Speaker 1: gotta really try to end somebody's drink. So get into that.
- 13:48Speaker 1: And I honestly considered it for a while because me
- 13:51Speaker 1: and my twin had been teammates our entire lives until
- 13:54Speaker 1: we got drafted into the NFL. Free agency came, but
- 13:57Speaker 1: it never really He stayed there, I stayed in New York.
- 14:00Speaker 1: We never really had a chance except in Pro Bowls,
- 14:02Speaker 1: and here it was. It was like right there. All
- 14:04Speaker 1: I had to do was unretired. But I would have
- 14:06Speaker 1: screwed the Giants so bad, uh, and I probably would
- 14:10Speaker 1: have missed my opportunity to go on network television, So
- 14:12Speaker 1: I said no, I turned it down. So how tempted
- 14:15Speaker 1: were you though, like very forty eight hours twenty four hours,
- 14:19Speaker 1: Like what was that process? I was there for two days,
- 14:23Speaker 1: just under forty eight hours, and my brother is like, dude,
- 14:26Speaker 1: you gotta do it this, come on, man, like we could,
- 14:28Speaker 1: we could live to dream, like how many opportunities do
- 14:30Speaker 1: you get like this? But I ultimately realized that my
- 14:34Speaker 1: body just couldn't take it anymore. I had ten years
- 14:37Speaker 1: and a lot of carries over the last three in
- 14:40Speaker 1: particular in New York, and I was ready to do
- 14:42Speaker 1: something else, so I said no. But it was very,
- 14:45Speaker 1: very tempting. It's so amazing too, because you were so
- 14:48Speaker 1: ahead of your time, like you obviously were aware of
- 14:49Speaker 1: the effects was having your body and you stepped up
- 14:51Speaker 1: in it. Yeah, surreal talking you right now because I'm
- 14:54Speaker 1: just like, you don't even know how much effect you
- 14:56Speaker 1: and your brother had on Eagles fans lives, but not
- 14:59Speaker 1: positive there, Like why do you say that? Because anytime
- 15:03Speaker 1: I meet an Eagles fan, it's kind of like this
- 15:04Speaker 1: love hate thing that's happening, right, Like, oh, we respect you,
- 15:08Speaker 1: but I hate the hell out of you. The first
- 15:10Speaker 1: thing I always say is like, I guarantee you you
- 15:12Speaker 1: hate my brother more and They're like, yeah, you're right,
- 15:16Speaker 1: you know, because like as an Eagles fan, I remember
- 15:18Speaker 1: being at those Vet games in the stadium and it's like,
- 15:21Speaker 1: you know, the worst people could think of a Philadelphia
- 15:23Speaker 1: there and they're just gunning for your blood. And then
- 15:26Speaker 1: as soon as your brother had that pick six in
- 15:28Speaker 1: the playoffs, dude, it immediately shifted for no one ever
- 15:31Speaker 1: mentioned Teake ever again. That's right, it was your brother.
- 15:34Speaker 1: For the rest of my life, I see Tailgates or
- 15:36Speaker 1: your brother's jersey whatever being burned or whatever for the
- 15:38Speaker 1: next five years. I mean, he is a Forklow legend
- 15:41Speaker 1: in the Pephia area. By the way, the last touchdowns
- 15:45Speaker 1: scored an a Vet before they tour that hell hole
- 15:47Speaker 1: down Rod Day Barber ninety three yards at his back
- 15:53Speaker 1: all the way, pointing at his back, say my name
- 15:56Speaker 1: Eagles dropiced. Oh godly Barber's fly. You know that. I'm glad.
- 16:18Speaker 1: I asked the questions to bring Simon a little bit
- 16:20Speaker 1: of here we go, Baby come Back, and this is
- 16:22Speaker 1: part two, Baby Come Back. This week, the Cleveland Cavaliers
- 16:32Speaker 1: signed former star Anderson Verijao to a ten day contract.
- 16:36Speaker 1: He hasn't played an NBA game since two thousand seventeen,
- 16:40Speaker 1: but has remained beloved in Northeast Ohio. Very Jao is
- 16:44Speaker 1: certainly not the first athlete to dust off his uniform
- 16:46Speaker 1: and return to actions. So let's talk about a few. Amanda,
- 16:50Speaker 1: Considered by many to be the greatest of all time,
- 16:55Speaker 1: this soccer player retired from his Brazilian club in seventy two.
- 17:01Speaker 1: But all you have to say was Brazilian great. It
- 17:04Speaker 1: was pale. Listen, you totally screwed up that first question,
- 17:10Speaker 1: but your last two answers way to go. You should
- 17:13Speaker 1: probably get an extra point just for answering before I
- 17:15Speaker 1: got to finish. Signon red Far has been referred to
- 17:18Speaker 1: as the undisputed king of the fake retirement. He never
- 17:22Speaker 1: knew when to hold him and when to fold him
- 17:24Speaker 1: when it came to his own career. In his two
- 17:28Speaker 1: decades in the NFL, he ended up playing for four
- 17:32Speaker 1: teams name them. I got the Jets, I got the Vikings,
- 17:39Speaker 1: the Packers in Atlanta. You are correct, sir, Tiki. This
- 17:44Speaker 1: Hall of Fame defense and back unretired in two thousand
- 17:47Speaker 1: four to play two seasons for the Baltimore Ravens and
- 17:50Speaker 1: once said football is my wife, Baseball is my mistress,
- 17:55Speaker 1: Deon Sanders, Dion Sanders Prime Time another Atlanta one. That's
- 18:03Speaker 1: right right, I like that. No wind hold of everybody,
- 18:12Speaker 1: no wink away. Here's your story. As everybody knows, this
- 18:22Speaker 1: podcast is really just an excuse for me to sing.
- 18:24Speaker 1: So I'm uh number one, number two. We obviously work
- 18:28Speaker 1: at a gambling company. And uh, when I was in
- 18:31Speaker 1: fifth grade, I went to overnight camp and I sang
- 18:34Speaker 1: at the talent show and the song that I sung
- 18:38Speaker 1: the Gambler by Kenny Right. Of course you knew then.
- 18:42Speaker 1: You knew that. Did Dean Sanders Tiki? Did Dean Sanders
- 18:45Speaker 1: ever tackle you? Yes? Yes, alright, alright, hold on, I'm
- 18:49Speaker 1: gonna stick take my camera, all right, all right? On
- 18:53Speaker 1: my right foot, there's a bump on my tilt. Can
- 18:56Speaker 1: you see it? Oh? Yeah, right there. It's because I
- 19:01Speaker 1: sprained that joint in a game against the Dallas Cowboys.
- 19:05Speaker 1: It was on It was a game where he returned
- 19:08Speaker 1: the kickoff for a touchdown at the after we scored
- 19:11Speaker 1: to take the lead, he returned to kickoff for a touchdown.
- 19:14Speaker 1: They got called back because he illegally for lateral here
- 19:17Speaker 1: if anybody remembers that, well, I set up the winning
- 19:21Speaker 1: field goal because I gotta pass across the middle. I
- 19:24Speaker 1: juked the linebacker was running down the sideline. I'm like, dude,
- 19:28Speaker 1: I'm walking off touchdown. Here comes Dion from the other
- 19:32Speaker 1: side of the field and I'm like, dude, what the
- 19:34Speaker 1: hell is that? Because he was so fast, just flying,
- 19:37Speaker 1: and he jumped on my back and pulled me down
- 19:40Speaker 1: and it twisted my toe and it and it created
- 19:43Speaker 1: this like joint sprain, which if you don't take care
- 19:45Speaker 1: of it turns into a callous right and and it
- 19:48Speaker 1: solidifies in the bone. So I have this forever mark
- 19:51Speaker 1: on my toe from Dion Sanders hawking me down as
- 19:55Speaker 1: I was about to walk off win a touchdown open
- 19:58Speaker 1: Giant Stadium because he was so fast. So, yes, he
- 20:01Speaker 1: did tackle me in my career. Wow, I feel like
- 20:04Speaker 1: I could say any name and any moment in football
- 20:08Speaker 1: and you would be able to explain something that was
- 20:11Speaker 1: very specific that happened to you that never in a
- 20:13Speaker 1: million years what I thought this would have started with. Yes,
- 20:16Speaker 1: look at this bone callous on my toe. You're good, alright, Amanda.
- 20:20Speaker 1: If Brett Farb is the king of fake retirements, Michael
- 20:24Speaker 1: Jordan's might be the king of real ones. At the
- 20:27Speaker 1: age of thirty eight, he unretired one more time to
- 20:30Speaker 1: play for this nb A team. I mean, I want
- 20:34Speaker 1: to say the Bulls, but that has to be wrong,
- 20:39Speaker 1: the Washington Wizards. I feel like if I said to Tiki,
- 20:42Speaker 1: tell me your best Michael Jordan's story, he would have
- 20:44Speaker 1: a Michael Jordan's me. And you know, the Lake Tahoe
- 20:48Speaker 1: Golf tournament in puts on um, it's amazing. I only
- 20:52Speaker 1: played in it once because I suck and I literally
- 20:55Speaker 1: felt like I was going to hit people that are
- 20:56Speaker 1: standing on the sides, So I didn't only played in
- 20:59Speaker 1: it one time, and I forget where I finished. But
- 21:01Speaker 1: it doesn't matter. So the next time I go, my brother,
- 21:03Speaker 1: who is a good golfer, is saying, dude, you gotta come,
- 21:06Speaker 1: you gotta just play. I'm like, dude, I'm not playing.
- 21:08Speaker 1: He's like, well, caddy for me. I was like, all right, cool,
- 21:10Speaker 1: I'll caddy for you. And so I went out and
- 21:11Speaker 1: caddy for him and he plays braid. It is what
- 21:13Speaker 1: it is. Afterwards, you know, that's like a ship shell
- 21:15Speaker 1: that I think. It's like, play golf, go get hammered.
- 21:18Speaker 1: And so me and Rerandi finishes round, get dressed, cleaned up,
- 21:22Speaker 1: go out to drink, get a drink, and we walk
- 21:24Speaker 1: into this club and like back in the corner is
- 21:28Speaker 1: this like dude, and I can't really can't really see
- 21:30Speaker 1: what it is. We got our drinks and all of
- 21:32Speaker 1: a sudden, we here Barbara Brothers, fucking Barbara Brothers sitting
- 21:35Speaker 1: in the cut with me, and I'm like, the hell
- 21:38Speaker 1: is that? It was Michael Jordan's. Then we came over,
- 21:42Speaker 1: we dapted him, said what's up? Man? He was sitting
- 21:44Speaker 1: like way in the cut and it was it was
- 21:47Speaker 1: cool man. I was like, dude, Michael Jordan knows who
- 21:48Speaker 1: the hell we are, So yeah, I have I had
- 21:50Speaker 1: a Michael Jordan's story that and then you proceeded to
- 21:54Speaker 1: gamble away a hundred and fifty dollars on who would
- 21:58Speaker 1: have who would have most parts? The next day. Yeah,
- 22:01Speaker 1: I completely walked away because I knew that he likes
- 22:03Speaker 1: the gamble and I had didn't have the money to
- 22:05Speaker 1: gamble with Michael Jordan's. Nobody has the money to gamble
- 22:08Speaker 1: with Michael Jordan's. Simon, a bad back and Hodgkins lymphoma
- 22:13Speaker 1: diagnosis led to this Hockey Stars retirement, but He returned
- 22:18Speaker 1: in two thousand, becoming just the third NHL player to
- 22:22Speaker 1: return to the ice after his own Hall of Fame induction. Tiki.
- 22:29Speaker 1: It was hardly a victory lap when this legendary scrambler
- 22:33Speaker 1: unretired to join an NFC North team leading one of
- 22:40Speaker 1: the greatest offenses in NFL history. Just one year later.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Who was this player? Randall Cunningham. All right, here we
- 22:53Speaker 1: go the prompt. They say, absence makes the heart grow fonder,
- 22:57Speaker 1: and that's as true in sports betting as anywhere else.
- 23:00Speaker 1: If you couldn't magically bring back one star athlete in
- 23:04Speaker 1: their prime to make their sport more fun to watch
- 23:06Speaker 1: and to bat on, who would you choose? Tiki Europe.
- 23:11Speaker 1: It's easy for me, Bo Jackson. Bo knows this, and
- 23:15Speaker 1: Bo knows that. But Bo no, no crap, because Bo
- 23:18Speaker 1: can't wrap. But he probably could in today's society, because
- 23:22Speaker 1: he could put it out on his own Instagram or
- 23:24Speaker 1: other social media platform and he'd be rapping and all
- 23:27Speaker 1: these boys would be like, dude, I love that guy,
- 23:29Speaker 1: Like little kids, I love that guy. And then when
- 23:31Speaker 1: they get older and he's still playing, and he goes
- 23:33Speaker 1: for a hundred and fifty and two quarters against whoever
- 23:36Speaker 1: he's playing. Bo Jackson would make sport fun. Whatever sport
- 23:40Speaker 1: he's playing, he could run up walls in the outfield. Hell,
- 23:43Speaker 1: he might be playing cricket or soccer. At this point,
- 23:46Speaker 1: international soccer is becoming a big deal. So giv me,
- 23:49Speaker 1: give me Bo Jackson. I couldn't agree more. As a
- 23:51Speaker 1: kid of the eighties, Bo Jackson to me, just I
- 23:55Speaker 1: could have watched the guy play anything at any time
- 23:57Speaker 1: all day. That's that's I mean in those old highlights,
- 24:00Speaker 1: in those big pads, and how fast he was and
- 24:03Speaker 1: how he would bowl people over. It was amazing, Amanda.
- 24:06Speaker 1: So I'm gonna go with Anthony Kim. We know he
- 24:10Speaker 1: retired in two thousand and fourteen. He took the whatever
- 24:13Speaker 1: the the insurance payout from the PGA Tour. I think
- 24:16Speaker 1: got ten million out of it to never play golf again.
- 24:19Speaker 1: He was only on tour for four years. He had
- 24:21Speaker 1: four wins. He played in a Ryder Cup, he played
- 24:23Speaker 1: in the President's Cup. He was dominant in match play.
- 24:25Speaker 1: He had this really like fiery energy. And now if
- 24:28Speaker 1: we could just bet on Anthony Kim in even just
- 24:32Speaker 1: a Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup, how fun would that be.
- 24:35Speaker 1: I mean he beat Sergio and Sunday singles of the
- 24:38Speaker 1: O eight Ryder Cup. I mean the US went on
- 24:40Speaker 1: to lose. But if Anthony Kim could come back and
- 24:43Speaker 1: be Anthony Kim, I mean he was just a kid
- 24:45Speaker 1: when he retired, and now he doesn't even play golf anymore,
- 24:47Speaker 1: and he likes Vegas, he likes to gamble. I think
- 24:50Speaker 1: he'd be a good guy to try to get on
- 24:52Speaker 1: a show sometime for us. That is a really good idea.
- 24:56Speaker 1: He's one of those guys who it's such a mystery
- 25:00Speaker 1: and he so dropped off the face of the earth
- 25:02Speaker 1: and what and his gambling habits are are pretty legendary. Wow,
- 25:08Speaker 1: Amanda Man, I want Tiki to win, but you keep
- 25:11Speaker 1: coming on the radar, solid man. That is a great
- 25:15Speaker 1: simon what do you got? I felt like this one
- 25:18Speaker 1: was pretty easy as well. It's there's four major sports
- 25:20Speaker 1: here in American there's only one sport with unanimous great
- 25:23Speaker 1: one and then no one can really argue against. You
- 25:29Speaker 1: can literally take away goals at Gretzky scored and he's
- 25:33Speaker 1: still the NHL points leader, So like that's you can't
- 25:36Speaker 1: make it up. The guy is literally so far above
- 25:38Speaker 1: greater than anyone else ever played hockey. I would love
- 25:40Speaker 1: to do first period over props on Gretzky, give me
- 25:44Speaker 1: it all. I wish Gretzky was back because he was
- 25:46Speaker 1: just like cash cow for gamblers. Wow. The only time
- 25:50Speaker 1: I've ever liked hockey was in the early in mid
- 25:53Speaker 1: eighties when Gretzky was playing, and I would pretend I
- 25:57Speaker 1: was Wayne Gretzky and go down to my basement and
- 26:00Speaker 1: uh with a tennis ball and a hockey stick, hit
- 26:03Speaker 1: it against the wall as hard as I could. You
- 26:05Speaker 1: add in the element of being able to bet on
- 26:09Speaker 1: his first period goals scored or first period total points scored. Simon,
- 26:13Speaker 1: you win. To get Wayne Gretzky in his prime and
- 26:16Speaker 1: to be betting on Wayne Gretzky in real time, that
- 26:19Speaker 1: is a match made in heaven. I love Anthony Kim,
- 26:23Speaker 1: I love Bo Jackson. They're all great answers. I wish
- 26:25Speaker 1: I could get everyone on the point. But Simon gets
- 26:27Speaker 1: the point. It is time to add up the scores
- 26:30Speaker 1: right now as we head into part three, uh Tiki
- 26:34Speaker 1: has two points, Amanda has two points. How does Simon
- 26:37Speaker 1: have four points? That's insane. Simon has chat it must
- 26:41Speaker 1: be rigged. That's that's bullshit, all right. Here we go
- 26:44Speaker 1: Part three. The beginning of May is usually a whole
- 26:48Speaker 1: hume week on this sports calendar, but some noteworthy headlines
- 26:52Speaker 1: are definitely worth remembering, Amanda. On Monday, the Washington Wizards
- 26:56Speaker 1: won and covered versus the Pacers, and Russell Westbrook recorded
- 27:01Speaker 1: his second career twenty rebound twenty assist game. Personally, I
- 27:06Speaker 1: think Russell Westbrook has cheapened the triple double, but that's
- 27:10Speaker 1: another story. Only one other player in NBA history has
- 27:13Speaker 1: a twenty rebound twenty assist game. It's the same guy
- 27:19Speaker 1: who dropped one hundred points on the New York Knicks
- 27:23Speaker 1: in six two. Was it Chamberlain? Wilt Chamberlain is correct.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Earlier this week, Portland's Carmelo Anthony moved to tenth place
- 27:38Speaker 1: on the all time leading scorers list for the NBA.
- 27:42Speaker 1: He should pass Moses Malone for ninth place later this season,
- 27:46Speaker 1: but as unlikely to reach the aforementioned Will Chamberlain, who
- 27:50Speaker 1: seventh besides Carmelo. Moses Malone and Will Chamberlain named four
- 27:56Speaker 1: of the other seven names on the NBA of the
- 28:00Speaker 1: names all time scoring less so I'm gonna say Lebron, Yes,
- 28:08Speaker 1: I'm going to say Kareem. Yes. I was gonna save
- 28:13Speaker 1: Jordan for the last one because that's the easy one.
- 28:17Speaker 1: There are one, two four more on the list, Shaquille O'Neil. Correct,
- 28:24Speaker 1: who are the other ones on the list? You had
- 28:25Speaker 1: Kareem also, Karl Malone would have been acceptable. Lebron, Kobe, Oh, Koby,
- 28:32Speaker 1: I mean, what the hell? What's wrong with me? Jordan's
- 28:35Speaker 1: dark Navitsky and Shack Simon. This has been a week
- 28:38Speaker 1: to forget for the Houston Astros. They had to return
- 28:41Speaker 1: to this stadium, the site of their two thousand seventeen
- 28:45Speaker 1: ALCS road games, for the first time since they're signed.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Stealing scandal broke early last year named the stadium? Did
- 28:55Speaker 1: I literally drank all week? And I have no idea
- 28:58Speaker 1: who they played this week? Cap it was there? The
- 29:01Speaker 1: Yankees of the Red Sox they played in that so
- 29:03Speaker 1: they either won the World Series that year they won
- 29:05Speaker 1: of the year before. I guess I'll go Yankees, just
- 29:07Speaker 1: because they're usually in the playoffs every year, so I'll
- 29:09Speaker 1: just I'll go Yankees. You are correct, Yankee Stadium, here
- 29:14Speaker 1: we go. Are you drinking every day? This week because
- 29:16Speaker 1: you won six figures on Matt Jones and not going
- 29:21Speaker 1: through it in the draft. Yeah. I mean, dude, if
- 29:24Speaker 1: you want to hear a really embarrassing story, I'm I'm
- 29:26Speaker 1: willing to throw it out there on this live podcast. Um.
- 29:29Speaker 1: So I have. I recently got my heartbroken and I
- 29:33Speaker 1: have people trying to set me up now that I
- 29:34Speaker 1: have a ton of money, and a girl set me
- 29:37Speaker 1: up with her sister, and I didn't realize I was
- 29:40Speaker 1: Facebook friends with her sister until it was three in
- 29:42Speaker 1: the morning and I've been drinking and of course I'm
- 29:45Speaker 1: clicking through a pictures. I liked her picture at three
- 29:47Speaker 1: in the morning. So it was probably the worst moment
- 29:50Speaker 1: of my life because I literally liked it, and she
- 29:52Speaker 1: texts me in the morning she said, do you like
- 29:54Speaker 1: my sister's photo at three in the morning. So I'm
- 29:56Speaker 1: killing the dating game chat. I absolutely. I'm glad it
- 30:01Speaker 1: was about you being heartbroken, because if you didn't bring
- 30:03Speaker 1: it up, I was going to bring it up. I'm sorry,
- 30:08Speaker 1: but money makes the heart girls less caring. It's true
- 30:15Speaker 1: what I disagree with you, guys. I feel like all
- 30:18Speaker 1: the money in the world doesn't matter if if your
- 30:22Speaker 1: heart isn't full of love. I wanted signmon to to
- 30:27Speaker 1: weigh in on my genius with someone that does have
- 30:30Speaker 1: a lot of money. That's super lonely. I completely agree,
- 30:33Speaker 1: it's hard. I told you, I'm literally selling the house
- 30:35Speaker 1: right now because I hate being in a house by myself.
- 30:37Speaker 1: It's so depressing. It's just like, oh, memories over there,
- 30:40Speaker 1: memories over there. I'm alone. I'm gonna die alone. Had
- 30:43Speaker 1: the heartbreak. I'm sorry. Yeah, dude, it's the worst, bro,
- 30:46Speaker 1: But um no, it's like I'm a couple of months now,
- 30:50Speaker 1: so it's like all gravy. But at the same time,
- 30:52Speaker 1: it's like, yeah, dude, every morning you wake up when
- 30:54Speaker 1: you're single, you're just like, no one's ever gonna love me.
- 30:56Speaker 1: I'm gonna die alone. So that's the best. The mornings
- 30:59Speaker 1: I wake up Stallane in bed, Simon, I'm never going
- 31:01Speaker 1: to leave you, I hope, Chad. I texted you. Chad
- 31:04Speaker 1: made some nice little joke via text, and I said, Chad,
- 31:07Speaker 1: never leave me exclamation model because I'm so scared Chad
- 31:10Speaker 1: is just not going to show up now that he's
- 31:12Speaker 1: the wealthiest Manish show, good lord, good lord, listen. I
- 31:17Speaker 1: didn't play in the NFL for ten years and then
- 31:19Speaker 1: going to Broadway and massive fame and fortunate media. I
- 31:23Speaker 1: don't have nearly as much money as Tiki. I think
- 31:25Speaker 1: you didn't buy dose coin, though you've got a ton
- 31:27Speaker 1: of dogecoin. I didn't get any dosecoin because I was like,
- 31:30Speaker 1: this is bullshit. I cannot buy a crypto based on
- 31:34Speaker 1: a meme. And of course now it's like now it's
- 31:37Speaker 1: like going for god knows how much. But then you
- 31:40Speaker 1: got to convert it to bitcoin in order to get
- 31:42Speaker 1: your money out of it, and you gotta get your
- 31:43Speaker 1: money at a big coin. Yeah, not complicated at all.
- 31:47Speaker 1: I do watch the bitcoin every day because I got
- 31:49Speaker 1: some of the bitcoin, I got some of the ethereum.
- 31:51Speaker 1: I do watch it every day. I tell my wife,
- 31:53Speaker 1: oh my god, I can't believe what's happening here, and
- 31:55Speaker 1: she goes, we're never going to see that money. You might,
- 31:59Speaker 1: you might, I hope. So we should create a Tiki
- 32:02Speaker 1: Barber crypto. All right, here we go, Part of three.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Despite its pedestrian name, Medina Spirit won the one forty
- 32:09Speaker 1: seven running of the Kentucky Derby last Saturday. As a name,
- 32:13Speaker 1: Medina Spirit pales in comparison to past winners like war Emblem,
- 32:17Speaker 1: American Pharaoh, California Chrome, and thunder Gulch, even this year's
- 32:22Speaker 1: last place finisher, the whimsical Soup and Sandwich. It's more
- 32:25Speaker 1: fun to say so. Drawing inspiration from the world of
- 32:28Speaker 1: sports or sports betting, sell us on the coolest possible
- 32:31Speaker 1: name for a racehorse, looking for names like no trade clause,
- 32:37Speaker 1: Windy Wrigley under or Mark Davis haircut Amanda. I feel
- 32:43Speaker 1: like you'll kill this. We're talking about a literation earlier,
- 32:46Speaker 1: so I have some double alliteration for you. Now, if
- 32:49Speaker 1: I had a real horse, not one of those fake
- 32:51Speaker 1: computer horses that Darren Revel and all the other people
- 32:55Speaker 1: with all the crypto like, um, I'm going with Tony
- 32:58Speaker 1: Fane top five because you can't win. He's got a
- 33:02Speaker 1: bet terom across the board. You bet him top five,
- 33:04Speaker 1: top ten, top twenty. He ain't gonna win. He has
- 33:06Speaker 1: the Puerto Rico when the curse has been broken by
- 33:08Speaker 1: Victor Hoblin. But who the hell knows when Tony Finale
- 33:10Speaker 1: is actually gonna break through. I mean, Tony t final
- 33:12Speaker 1: top two would also work, but that's too many t
- 33:15Speaker 1: so Tony Finale top five is the race horse. It'll
- 33:18Speaker 1: come in second every single time. All right, here's what
- 33:21Speaker 1: you did. A It's a great answer. Be you took
- 33:26Speaker 1: a golfer who all of us have bet way too
- 33:29Speaker 1: much on over the years, who has never delivered for us,
- 33:31Speaker 1: and it's always disappointing because he's always on the cusp.
- 33:34Speaker 1: And you translated to how he would perform if his
- 33:38Speaker 1: name were a horse, and it would be equally heartbreaking
- 33:41Speaker 1: and equally bad bait and even miserable. That is next
- 33:46Speaker 1: level simon, Mr Lonely Hearts. I can't thop it, but
- 33:52Speaker 1: someone that has spent one third of their life inside
- 33:54Speaker 1: of casinos, I can say with assurance that this is
- 33:57Speaker 1: the one thing you can say that makes everyone in
- 33:59Speaker 1: the rooms stop what they're going to watch you. And
- 34:01Speaker 1: that's all in. So find a horse. I name it
- 34:04Speaker 1: all in because it's just one of those things where
- 34:05Speaker 1: when I think of gambling, I think of one phrase
- 34:08Speaker 1: that stops everyone, and that's when you hear someone say
- 34:10Speaker 1: all it. Everyone just has to stop. So that's why
- 34:13Speaker 1: I'll go for the horse. I like that answer. Let
- 34:15Speaker 1: me ask a different question, Uh, what if we named
- 34:20Speaker 1: a horse mush? Because that way like it almost takes
- 34:23Speaker 1: the stink off the whole thing, right Like you are.
- 34:26Speaker 1: You are confronting the demon head on and saying, challenge me.
- 34:32Speaker 1: I am going to call the horse Mush, and you
- 34:34Speaker 1: will want to bet on this horse because it will
- 34:35Speaker 1: defy the odds every single time. You'll get great odds.
- 34:38Speaker 1: If you name your horse Mush. No one's gonna betting
- 34:40Speaker 1: on Mush. You might as well name it never been late.
- 34:44Speaker 1: I mean, if you're going to go down that road,
- 34:45Speaker 1: it's like if you're thinking of really like names that
- 34:47Speaker 1: make no sense, that are just weird to say, Mush
- 34:51Speaker 1: never been laid. Both work, But but then the irony
- 34:54Speaker 1: if he should happen to win the Kentucky Jarreby, that's
- 34:56Speaker 1: stud fee man, that'll be awesould be amazing, right, who's
- 34:59Speaker 1: that over? They're getting it on? Oh that's never been
- 35:02Speaker 1: really um true story. Phil Ivy possibly the greatest gambler
- 35:10Speaker 1: in history, the greatest poker player in history, high stakes
- 35:13Speaker 1: gambler in every single way. I once lost him seven
- 35:17Speaker 1: playing crops and he looked at me and he goes,
- 35:21Speaker 1: you're fucking mush, And that is a thing you never
- 35:25Speaker 1: want to be called by. Phil Ivy because he is
- 35:28Speaker 1: as scary as anybody you've ever met when you were
- 35:31Speaker 1: confronting him head on. Alright, So I don't know if
- 35:35Speaker 1: I can top Amanda. All In is pretty awesome until
- 35:38Speaker 1: you go all in and sit back and then you
- 35:40Speaker 1: fucking lose. But I will give you a true story
- 35:44Speaker 1: which may actually help. So Darren Ravel, this is probably
- 35:48Speaker 1: about the time that he joined Action Network, put out
- 35:51Speaker 1: a tweet and said, your name and I'm going to
- 35:56Speaker 1: now assign this name to this horse that you're talking
- 35:59Speaker 1: at out your name, um has to be the last
- 36:04Speaker 1: drink that you had and the last bet that you won.
- 36:11Speaker 1: So let's back up. We had just had DeAndre Wilder
- 36:14Speaker 1: on our radio show, on my radio show, and I
- 36:17Speaker 1: was all in on DeAndre Wilder Tyson Fury, Tyson Fury,
- 36:21Speaker 1: DeAndre Wilder Tyson Fury. Is he looked fat, overweight the
- 36:25Speaker 1: first time, like that, this is he's not gonna win.
- 36:27Speaker 1: We got all hyped up on DeAndre because he talks
- 36:30Speaker 1: a huge game and the whole time like dude, I'm
- 36:32Speaker 1: betting this guy, betting this guy and betting this guy.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Then you can look at the odds and it's just
- 36:36Speaker 1: nothing looked good right, it's like nothing. I don't trust it,
- 36:40Speaker 1: so I don't want to bet it. And so I
- 36:42Speaker 1: ended up having about ten fifteen dollars left in my
- 36:45Speaker 1: account and said, you know what, I'm just gonna pick
- 36:47Speaker 1: the highest payout and it was Tyson Fury by knockout
- 36:52Speaker 1: in the seventh round. He fucking knocked him out in
- 36:55Speaker 1: the seventh I'm sitting there like, wait, that did not
- 36:59Speaker 1: just happened. That did not just happen. I should have
- 37:02Speaker 1: put two thousand dollars on this thing, as opposed to
- 37:05Speaker 1: do And so in response, I happened to be looking
- 37:09Speaker 1: at Twitter. In response to darn Revelle's tweet, I wrote
- 37:13Speaker 1: black Fury because I was drinking Johnny Walker black Wow,
- 37:18Speaker 1: like that. Do you know what? It's not as good
- 37:21Speaker 1: as Tony Fen Top five, but the story is better,
- 37:25Speaker 1: and so it happened. It has the benefit of being true.
- 37:28Speaker 1: It has the benefit of being true, and you want
- 37:30Speaker 1: some money in the spirit of it being based on
- 37:32Speaker 1: a winning bat and it ties back to Action Network
- 37:35Speaker 1: and it brings in revel Tiki Barber, you know what,
- 37:38Speaker 1: you know what, here's what let me tell you. That's
- 37:40Speaker 1: so Tiki Barber. I love the inside joke, There we go,
- 37:47Speaker 1: there we go. Right now we are at Amanda three points,
- 37:51Speaker 1: Tiki four points, Simon five points. As we go into
- 37:56Speaker 1: the grand finale, the topic is like father, like son.
- 38:02Speaker 1: So first you have to decide how much you guys
- 38:05Speaker 1: would like to risk. What you will do is close
- 38:07Speaker 1: your eyes. Now hold up your fingers with your wager
- 38:12Speaker 1: amount so Matt Mitchell can see them. Here we go.
- 38:16Speaker 1: In the first round of the NFL Draft last week,
- 38:19Speaker 1: J C. Horne and Patrick certain the second were selected
- 38:23Speaker 1: number eight and number nine overall. Both of their fathers
- 38:27Speaker 1: were stars in the NFL, following a time honored tradition
- 38:32Speaker 1: of elite pro athlete progeny. One of the best examples
- 38:36Speaker 1: of this is Calvin Hill and his son. Calvin was
- 38:40Speaker 1: one of the greatest running backs in Ivy League history.
- 38:42Speaker 1: He was a first round pick, one rookie of the Year,
- 38:44Speaker 1: and became the first Dallas Cowboy to rush for a
- 38:47Speaker 1: thousand yards in a season. He won Super Bowl six
- 38:51Speaker 1: in two and almost exactly nine months later, his son
- 38:54Speaker 1: was born. Like his father, his son attended a prestigious university,
- 38:59Speaker 1: was a first round traft pick and one Rookie of
- 39:01Speaker 1: the Year. Unlike his father, he didn't play football. He
- 39:04Speaker 1: didn't win a Pro championship, but he did win to
- 39:08Speaker 1: n C Double A titles and an Olympic gold medal
- 39:11Speaker 1: to go along with seven All Star appearances. Who is
- 39:15Speaker 1: Calvin Hillsan and play cats? When man? All right, Tiki,
- 39:37Speaker 1: you go first, and then give your best story about
- 39:39Speaker 1: this person. Um, the answer is obviously Grant Hill, who
- 39:42Speaker 1: played at Duke University, who now is a partner with
- 39:46Speaker 1: a friend of mine and some real estate business. But
- 39:48Speaker 1: Grants a great, great dude, here's a great story for you.
- 39:51Speaker 1: Though obviously I have an identical twin brother, and I
- 39:53Speaker 1: played football as he played football. My father, James Barber,
- 39:57Speaker 1: was a great football player at Virginia Tech with the
- 40:00Speaker 1: Hokeyes back in the early seventies. And in the early
- 40:03Speaker 1: seventies they didn't have black and white roommates except for
- 40:07Speaker 1: my father did. His roommate was the head coach of
- 40:11Speaker 1: the Super Bowl winning Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Bruce Arians. So
- 40:14Speaker 1: I've known Bruce Arians literally my entire life. And my
- 40:19Speaker 1: mom tells me these stories. And my mom and dad
- 40:21Speaker 1: would meet because the black athletes would go hang out
- 40:24Speaker 1: together and the white athletes would go hang out together
- 40:26Speaker 1: with the white camp students, and I said, well, what
- 40:29Speaker 1: about Bruce. What did Bruce do? My mom said, Bruce
- 40:32Speaker 1: was the coolest guy in the room. Now, he was
- 40:34Speaker 1: the coolest guy in the room then, whether he is
- 40:36Speaker 1: with the white kids or the black kids. So that
- 40:39Speaker 1: family thing exists in my life all over the place
- 40:43Speaker 1: whole we shit, Yeah, that is an amazing story, didn't
- 40:50Speaker 1: I didn't see that one coming at all. There you go,
- 40:53Speaker 1: family man, Family doesn't matter the color of your skin.
- 40:56Speaker 1: I wish I could give you extra points for the story,
- 40:59Speaker 1: but I can't write now because we're at the end
- 41:00Speaker 1: of the game. Sign in your next I'm embarrassed that
- 41:03Speaker 1: I knew that was grand Hill Dukes Duke's grand Hill.
- 41:07Speaker 1: I just put a junior at the end of his
- 41:08Speaker 1: name because I had no idea who was going to be.
- 41:10Speaker 1: So I was hoping he was like a sofiopath. He
- 41:12Speaker 1: named himself his kid after him. So you went with
- 41:14Speaker 1: Calvin Hill Jr. I did, Okay, Simon, what did you do?
- 41:19Speaker 1: I had no idea, I said, Georgie, But I mean
- 41:22Speaker 1: I got the letter G right. What the funky is
- 41:24Speaker 1: going on here? I don't understand this, like the goddamn millennials.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Grant Hill is a Hall of Fame basketball player who
- 41:32Speaker 1: runs USA Basketball who has been broadcasting games for like
- 41:36Speaker 1: as long as you guys have been alive, and you
- 41:38Speaker 1: don't know his history. All right? Uh, Tiki, how many
- 41:43Speaker 1: points did you wager? I wagered four points. You had
- 41:47Speaker 1: four points, but now you have eight. Uh, Simon, I
- 41:50Speaker 1: guarantee you wager five points. So now that you have Amanda,
- 41:54Speaker 1: how many points did you wager? All of them? Chat?
- 41:57Speaker 1: All three? You had three points, you now have zero.
- 42:01Speaker 1: Tiki Barber, you are so Tiki Barber. You are our
- 42:06Speaker 1: champion of the Thursday Thundered. You know what, you know what.
- 42:10Speaker 1: I'm kind of glad you want I normally I wanted
- 42:13Speaker 1: Simon to win, but you brought so many good stories
- 42:16Speaker 1: to the show today, and then you ended it in
- 42:19Speaker 1: a heartwarming fashion with a story about a beloved coach
- 42:23Speaker 1: who I think has become such a sort of a
- 42:28Speaker 1: mythical figure in football this past year, especially because of
- 42:31Speaker 1: winning the Super Bowl and the way he had sort
- 42:33Speaker 1: of created offenses that have have really spurred creativity in
- 42:37Speaker 1: the NFL. I just think like that was amazing. Thank you,
- 42:41Speaker 1: I appreciate it. You did have Tom Brady though, so
- 42:45Speaker 1: it's a little bit easier for me because I'm old.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Obviously I've known who he is forever and he's had
- 42:50Speaker 1: a great and I covered the NFL for a long time,
- 42:52Speaker 1: so like, like I knew him when he was with
- 42:54Speaker 1: the Steelers and he had a great rep there, And
- 42:56Speaker 1: he was never a guy who like you had to
- 42:58Speaker 1: worry about. He wasn't going to get you woul get
- 43:00Speaker 1: answered to something. And then he had that great success
- 43:02Speaker 1: with the Colts uh in an interim basis, and then
- 43:05Speaker 1: amazing success with the Cardinals. Like he was a guy
- 43:07Speaker 1: he always thought should have gotten his chance to get
- 43:09Speaker 1: a head coaching job earlier, and the fact that he
- 43:12Speaker 1: got to win with the right guys and the right
- 43:14Speaker 1: team and came back and like it worked out. He's
- 43:16Speaker 1: a guy you root for. Agree. He was ages them
- 43:20Speaker 1: out of of Plattsburg and he basically on a whim,
- 43:24Speaker 1: takes a job, wins coach of the Year with check
- 43:26Speaker 1: Bogano getting sick, that goes Arizona, wins Coach of the
- 43:28Speaker 1: Year again himself, has health issues, ends up retiring, decides
- 43:33Speaker 1: he doesn't want to do Booth working, and CBS goes
- 43:35Speaker 1: back to the game, says, I can fix Jameis Winston,
- 43:37Speaker 1: but Jamie's those thirty interceptions and thirty three touchdowns, both
- 43:40Speaker 1: of which led the league. And he says, you're great,
- 43:43Speaker 1: but you know what, You're not gonna work for me.
- 43:45Speaker 1: Tom Brady, come on down here, let's do something special together,
- 43:48Speaker 1: and we know what happened. Amazing, totally amazing. Before we
