- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio. Back in the studio here for another day
- 0:19Speaker 1: of NFL Now on NFL Network from our newsroom in
- 0:23Speaker 1: Los Angeles. Thank you for watching today. My name is
- 0:25Speaker 1: Andrew Ceciliano. Any inside on who the Panthers are going
- 0:28Speaker 1: to take at number one from one of their better
- 0:30Speaker 1: defensive players, Jeremy Chin sitting at this desk, coming up momentarily.
- 0:35Speaker 1: We begin, however, with what we learned at the NFL's
- 0:39Speaker 1: annual meeting. We learned that Lamar Jackson is pushing back
- 0:43Speaker 1: now more than ever. Yesterday, Falcon's under Arthur Blank seemed
- 0:48Speaker 1: to suggest there's concerned around the league about Lamar Jackson's durability.
- 0:51Speaker 1: He's missed ten games the last two seasons. Blank also
- 0:54Speaker 1: said that they the Falcons will not pursue Lamar Jackson,
- 0:59Speaker 1: who has the non exclusive franchise tag from the Ravens.
- 1:02Speaker 1: He conside with anybody Lamar. A couple of hours later,
- 1:05Speaker 1: I don't know that specifically, in response to what Arthur
- 1:08Speaker 1: Blank said or what any of us have said, perhaps
- 1:10Speaker 1: on television, said I don't remember me sitting out week
- 1:13Speaker 1: one through Week twelve how come all of a sudden
- 1:16Speaker 1: I sit out because of money in which I could
- 1:18Speaker 1: have got hurt at any time within that time frame.
- 1:20Speaker 1: We know the Super Bowl, but on my mind since
- 1:22Speaker 1: April of eighteen, that's when Lamar Jackson was drafted. Let's
- 1:26Speaker 1: get real. I'd rather have one hundred percent pc Elven
- 1:28Speaker 1: go out there and play horrible, forcing myself to put
- 1:31Speaker 1: my guys in a bad situation, now, that is selfish
- 1:35Speaker 1: to me. Lamar Jackson also said that his niece swelled
- 1:40Speaker 1: up after traveling for one of those games late in
- 1:42Speaker 1: the season Ian Rappaport and Mike Garifolo games that he
- 1:46Speaker 1: did not play in, and that was one of the
- 1:47Speaker 1: reasons and maybe slowed his recovery regardless. Taking this yesterday
- 1:53Speaker 1: with Ian what we saw Monday, the tweet about his
- 1:55Speaker 1: trade request from back earlier in March. Do we think
- 1:59Speaker 1: this is helping or hurting his cause to try to
- 2:03Speaker 1: get a team to write an offer sheet. I don't
- 2:08Speaker 1: know what Lamar Jackson's causes. I don't know what his
- 2:10Speaker 1: ultimate goal is, and I think that's been one of
- 2:12Speaker 1: the difficulties for the Baltimore Ravens as well. Does he
- 2:15Speaker 1: want to be on another team. My understanding of his
- 2:18Speaker 1: trade request was to the Ravens essentially, if you aren't
- 2:21Speaker 1: gonna pay me, then let me go find someone who will,
- 2:25Speaker 1: which is to me different Mike than maybe a trade request,
- 2:28Speaker 1: because it did sound like, at least the version that
- 2:30Speaker 1: I received, that he would prefer to me a Baltimore
- 2:33Speaker 1: Raven if they were to pay him, with the second
- 2:36Speaker 1: best option being getting an offer sheet from someone else,
- 2:38Speaker 1: which the Ravens could still then potentially match. I know
- 2:41Speaker 1: a lot of teams do believe they would potentially match.
- 2:44Speaker 1: But this has been an interesting week in Arizona. I mean,
- 2:47Speaker 1: I'm not still in Arizona, but we were in Arizona.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Many many teams came out love the player, said great
- 2:53Speaker 1: things about him, but explain why they would not pursue him.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Does Lamar Jackson At the end of all this kind
- 2:58Speaker 1: of realize maybe the best market is with the Ravens.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Would be curious to know the answers to those questions.
- 3:05Speaker 1: And look, the Ravens are still willing to pay him,
- 3:07Speaker 1: despite the fact that the last two years he finished
- 3:09Speaker 1: the season with an injury that took longer for him
- 3:12Speaker 1: to recover from them was initially expected, which is something
- 3:15Speaker 1: that teams around the league certainly have noticed. Now, Lamar,
- 3:19Speaker 1: with his tweets, suggested that folks are saying he sat
- 3:22Speaker 1: out those last couple of games because he hadn't gotten
- 3:24Speaker 1: paid by that point. Well, the Ravens have been asked
- 3:27Speaker 1: about that, and the Ravens have said, Eric to Costa said, look,
- 3:30Speaker 1: that's a question for Lamar, but we have no reason
- 3:32Speaker 1: to believe that. We think it was more a health
- 3:34Speaker 1: thing that he just wasn't ready to be able to
- 3:36Speaker 1: play late in the season there and again despite that
- 3:40Speaker 1: the last two years him finishing the season not playing
- 3:43Speaker 1: because of an injury. The Ravens have made him offers
- 3:46Speaker 1: which are consistent with the top of the quarterbacks market
- 3:49Speaker 1: and would love to do a deal in that realm,
- 3:52Speaker 1: but for some reason Lamar Jackson hasn't accepted it. Now
- 3:54Speaker 1: he's sort of put out through back channels that he
- 3:57Speaker 1: doesn't want a fully guaranteed deal. Well, if that's the case,
- 4:00Speaker 1: what the Ravens have offered him is comparable to what
- 4:03Speaker 1: Josh Allen has received in some of these other quarterbacks
- 4:05Speaker 1: have received. I don't know how much more he's expecting
- 4:08Speaker 1: to get from somebody else because he doesn't have that
- 4:10Speaker 1: offer sheet and no indication that any is coming. Andrew,
- 4:13Speaker 1: and again, I'll reiterate what we said multiple times when
- 4:16Speaker 1: we were all sitting together at the annual meeting in Arizona.
- 4:19Speaker 1: You requested to trade. In essence, it's kind of been granted.
- 4:22Speaker 1: It's a non exclusive franchise tag Lamar Jackson has the
- 4:25Speaker 1: ability to go make your own trade. Go for it now.
- 4:28Speaker 1: The Ravens have the right to match, but go make
- 4:31Speaker 1: your own trade. You have that power. Jalen Hurts is not,
- 4:36Speaker 1: and he is entering the final year of his contract.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Remember not a five year deal for year deal because
- 4:41Speaker 1: he was a second round pick. As we think Burrow,
- 4:44Speaker 1: as we think Herbert, what's the latest with Jalen Hurts
- 4:47Speaker 1: and his contract. No, there was a lot of optimism
- 4:51Speaker 1: in Arizona regarding a potential Jalen Hurts would, no doubt,
- 4:54Speaker 1: would be a massive contract extension. How Roseman, the general manager,
- 4:58Speaker 1: said he could be done relatively soon, which does leave
- 5:01Speaker 1: the window open for any time the next couple hours
- 5:03Speaker 1: to any time in the next sever months. We'll see
- 5:05Speaker 1: when it gets done. These things negotiations end up taking
- 5:09Speaker 1: on a brain of their own. But the optimism was
- 5:11Speaker 1: certainly there, and owner Jeffrey Larry talked to Eagles reporters yesterday,
- 5:16Speaker 1: including Jeff McClain, which I'm reading from right now, with
- 5:19Speaker 1: Lurie quoted as saying Jalen is the most mature twenty
- 5:23Speaker 1: four year old I've ever come across, and essentially said
- 5:27Speaker 1: how incredible he was because of his passion, because the
- 5:30Speaker 1: way he prepares, because of the way he plays. You know,
- 5:33Speaker 1: maybe a year ago it was sort of like, we're
- 5:35Speaker 1: not sure which way this is going to go. The
- 5:37Speaker 1: Eagles are all in for Jalen Hurts and this thing, Mike,
- 5:41Speaker 1: really seems like only a matter of time. Yeah, And
- 5:44Speaker 1: it's gonna be a number. That's gonna be a good number.
- 5:46Speaker 1: It's gonna be the forty million plus range. Remember Daniel
- 5:49Speaker 1: Jones got forty million, with the possibility to get a
- 5:52Speaker 1: little bit higher, closer to forty three if he earned
- 5:54Speaker 1: some of those incentives. So it'll be higher than that,
- 5:57Speaker 1: but it won't be in the fifties. I mean, the
- 5:59Speaker 1: Eagles have been pushing back at the notion that they
- 6:02Speaker 1: would go that high. So it'll be a good number,
- 6:05Speaker 1: it'll be a fair number, it'll be a great number
- 6:07Speaker 1: for Jalen Hurts, who one of these days this upcoming
- 6:10Speaker 1: season will run out on the field in a jersey
- 6:12Speaker 1: that is not Midnight Green, that is Kelly Green. Because that,
- 6:15Speaker 1: to me was the big takeaway from what Jeffrey Laurie
- 6:17Speaker 1: told the media yesterday. The Kelly Green jerseys are coming
- 6:20Speaker 1: back now. They wore them years ago, but they had
- 6:23Speaker 1: the numbers on the side. I want to see that
- 6:25Speaker 1: eagle on the side, that old eagle logo that was
- 6:28Speaker 1: there yet. Go see they have the six and the
- 6:30Speaker 1: one on the shoulder there. I want to see an
- 6:33Speaker 1: eagle because their current uniforms have the modern eagle logo
- 6:37Speaker 1: on there. Can you put the spread wing the eagle,
- 6:39Speaker 1: because that's what they had way back in the day. Regardless,
- 6:42Speaker 1: they're gonna be sweet. They haven't said which game, but
- 6:44Speaker 1: of course we don't even have the schedule yet, so
- 6:45Speaker 1: how can they say which games? Mike Garafolo with all
- 6:48Speaker 1: the finer points of the eagle sartorial splendor bringing back
- 6:51Speaker 1: to Kelly Green. How about the control room having that picture.
- 6:55Speaker 1: They hadn't ready had no idea that I was going
- 6:57Speaker 1: to make that left turn I did. They were ready
- 6:59Speaker 1: to go. They're the best in the business professionals. Tip
- 7:02Speaker 1: of the captain Zando working social today and the back
- 7:05Speaker 1: row getting that on the screen. Let's move on to TNF.
- 7:09Speaker 1: So here's the deal. If flexing is not yet in okay,
- 7:12Speaker 1: but what they did approve yesterday at the annual meeting
- 7:16Speaker 1: is expanding the maximum number of games a team can
- 7:19Speaker 1: play on Thursday Night Football this coming season from one
- 7:22Speaker 1: to two. Let's start with the reaction and the commissioner,
- 7:25Speaker 1: Roger Goodell. I think we have data this very clear.
- 7:30Speaker 1: It doesn't show higher injury rate, but we recognize shorter weeks.
- 7:35Speaker 1: We went through this from COVID too. I hear from
- 7:37Speaker 1: a lot of players directly too. They love the ten
- 7:40Speaker 1: days afterwards. In fact they call it a many buy
- 7:43Speaker 1: and so there's some benefits on that side. So you
- 7:47Speaker 1: have different views. You want to consider all of them.
- 7:49Speaker 1: But players have different views, coaches have different views, and
- 7:53Speaker 1: we have to try to balance all of it. I
- 7:55Speaker 1: am adam only opposed to that flexible scheduling as it
- 7:59Speaker 1: is is really inconsiderate to our season ticket holders and
- 8:03Speaker 1: to people who are fill our stadiums every week. People
- 8:07Speaker 1: have gotten used to going from Sunday afternoon to Sunday night.
- 8:10Speaker 1: That doesn't mean that they like it. This year we
- 8:14Speaker 1: could be flexed to Monday night, which I think is
- 8:18Speaker 1: really inconsiderate to our ticket holders. But to flex a
- 8:22Speaker 1: game back to Thursday night, to me, it's just abusive
- 8:26Speaker 1: and I am adamly opposed to it. I think it
- 8:31Speaker 1: didn't get Unfortunately, didn't get enough votes today, but he'll
- 8:35Speaker 1: probably be revisited in men. All right, pretty strong language there,
- 8:39Speaker 1: and from John Marra, one of the owners of the Giants,
- 8:42Speaker 1: you didn't get enough votes, so we're looking at May.
- 8:45Speaker 1: The question is will it get enough votes? How do
- 8:49Speaker 1: we read the room in a couple of months, Well
- 8:53Speaker 1: read the room that John Marris standing, and he was
- 8:55Speaker 1: very angry and calling it abusive was something that I
- 8:58Speaker 1: was not, frankly expecting to hear from John Marrow very
- 9:01Speaker 1: takes it, takes it very seriously, and obviously for him,
- 9:05Speaker 1: the treatment of local fans in this situation is paramount
- 9:08Speaker 1: to the treatment of non local fans and casual football
- 9:10Speaker 1: fans who may or may not be watching on TV
- 9:13Speaker 1: and want a much better game to watch than what
- 9:15Speaker 1: might otherwise be on TV. And it didn't come up
- 9:18Speaker 1: a ton last year, but it did come up some
- 9:20Speaker 1: and I think if you're someone who likes watching Thursday
- 9:22Speaker 1: night football, sitting through a game that could be better
- 9:25Speaker 1: when there are other flex options is something that at
- 9:28Speaker 1: least is going to be considered. And Roger Goodell, I
- 9:30Speaker 1: think Mike explain this pretty well, saying they have to
- 9:33Speaker 1: balance the needs of both fans, the TV fans and
- 9:37Speaker 1: the local fans, and maybe they get there by allowing
- 9:40Speaker 1: teams to play more than once on Thursday night. Maybe
- 9:43Speaker 1: that takes care of this issue more than anything. But
- 9:45Speaker 1: it'll be revisited in May and a little over a month,
- 9:49Speaker 1: we're gonna have a schedule release show here on NFL Network,
- 9:52Speaker 1: so'll be sure to tune into that. We'll get you
- 9:53Speaker 1: the exact date once we know. We're going to say,
- 9:56Speaker 1: start with planning your fall. What's that I said, you're
- 9:59Speaker 1: good with that. You're you're really good at projecting the
- 10:02Speaker 1: promos out there is what I'm saying. There's your promo.
- 10:05Speaker 1: But we're also going to say start planning your fall right, like,
- 10:07Speaker 1: get your hotels, get your who you can travel with
- 10:10Speaker 1: you to go to the games, and all this stuff.
- 10:12Speaker 1: And then you're gonna change that on fifteen days. Notice,
- 10:16Speaker 1: I'm team John Marra on this one. I'm sorry, I agree.
- 10:18Speaker 1: I think this is way too much of a change.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Even the Sunday to Monday thing that he referenced, that's
- 10:22Speaker 1: a tough change for the fans as well. So he
- 10:26Speaker 1: is an influential owner and he's not shy about saying
- 10:29Speaker 1: things publicly when he feels a certain way. So perhaps
- 10:33Speaker 1: this will sway those folks into making sure that Thursday
- 10:38Speaker 1: Night football stays as it's currently situated without Now, look,
- 10:42Speaker 1: I know they want to improve the games too, And
- 10:43Speaker 1: the other side of this is the other thing I'm
- 10:44Speaker 1: thinking about as I'm talking this through, is you're taking
- 10:47Speaker 1: a game that would be played on Sunday with full rest.
- 10:51Speaker 1: That's gonna be a good game, right, That's why you're
- 10:53Speaker 1: flexing it because it's a good game. Well, now you're
- 10:55Speaker 1: shortening the rest for both teams in the preparation. Does
- 10:58Speaker 1: that takeaway from the quality of that game? Whereas if
- 11:00Speaker 1: you played it on the Sunday like it's scheduled, teams
- 11:03Speaker 1: would have more time to be more arrested, the quality
- 11:06Speaker 1: of the game would stay up. Think about that one.
- 11:08Speaker 1: I got you back, John Mara By the way, Tom
- 11:11Speaker 1: Pella sero last hour you thanked him even though he's
- 11:13Speaker 1: not here. Here's a tweet that the control room is
- 11:16Speaker 1: ready for here to bing it up. Here's Tom Peace
- 11:19Speaker 1: and are you welcome. That's very nice to Tom Good
- 11:21Speaker 1: to know that that perhaps at thirty five thousand feet
- 11:26Speaker 1: en route to Florida pro day. Not sure, regardless, we
- 11:30Speaker 1: thank Tom for one. Yeah, yep, there's one viewer. Love you, Mike.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Moving on to Jordan Love if you will. How about
- 11:41Speaker 1: that there is Aaron Rodgers still very much a packer
- 11:44Speaker 1: as the annual meeting breaks and the Packers and Jets
- 11:47Speaker 1: still do not have a deal, at least not yet. Griend,
- 11:54Speaker 1: Do you have an offer on the table from the Jets?
- 11:56Speaker 1: Is that? Yeah? Am I gonna get the details of that.
- 11:58Speaker 1: We've had a lot of discussions, you know, I've known
- 11:59Speaker 1: Joe for a long time and they've been really good
- 12:01Speaker 1: discussions and really you know, cordial, and we'll continue to
- 12:04Speaker 1: have those conversations and hopefully we can come to agreement
- 12:06Speaker 1: sooner or later. We talked to Joe here at all
- 12:08Speaker 1: about that specific I already talked to him. Um, you know,
- 12:11Speaker 1: whether we have like you know, I sit down formal
- 12:13Speaker 1: or like that. But we've been talking on the phone
- 12:14Speaker 1: for a couple of weeks. Now, is there any scenario
- 12:17Speaker 1: that you'd be comfortable making a trade without getting a
- 12:19Speaker 1: first round pick back? Yeah, I mean, I think you know, um,
- 12:22Speaker 1: but it's that's not a necessity. But at the same time, um,
- 12:27Speaker 1: you know, the value of the players is he's a
- 12:29Speaker 1: premiere player, you know, so they get their premiere picks
- 12:32Speaker 1: back for that is or players is important. Do you
- 12:34Speaker 1: have to have picks this year or would you be
- 12:36Speaker 1: willing to wait till you know, future draft? I think
- 12:39Speaker 1: as soon as the better, you're better. I think certainly
- 12:41Speaker 1: if we get beyond the draft and everything changes, compensation changes,
- 12:44Speaker 1: and and you know, so that would be a whole
- 12:46Speaker 1: different scenario. But hopefully we can get this done soon.
- 12:48Speaker 1: You know, it is what it is. And at the
- 12:51Speaker 1: same time, we're excited about Jordan and what he's been
- 12:54Speaker 1: able to how how he's been able to progress as
- 12:57Speaker 1: as a quarterback, um, how he's matured as a man
- 13:02Speaker 1: um and you know, it's going to be a a
- 13:05Speaker 1: different role for him certainly, And I think we all
- 13:08Speaker 1: have to kind of temper our expectations with you know
- 13:11Speaker 1: for him, it's just it's different when you're going into
- 13:16Speaker 1: a game versus when you're starting a game and it's
- 13:19Speaker 1: going to be a process. There is a lot to
- 13:22Speaker 1: unpack your Stacy Dale's Fucky Brooks back with me from
- 13:25Speaker 1: the annual meeting from Mark Murphy's comments which were set
- 13:28Speaker 1: out today from the Packers twitter feed, in which he said,
- 13:31Speaker 1: you know, our players are excited for Jordan Loves saying
- 13:34Speaker 1: all the right things and once again refriend Aaron Rodgers
- 13:36Speaker 1: kind of sort in the past tense here, let's go
- 13:38Speaker 1: back to the past, Stacy. Brian Goodacut's also opened up
- 13:41Speaker 1: about the end of the season and how he tried
- 13:43Speaker 1: to get in touch with Aaron Rodgers and really, I
- 13:46Speaker 1: know Rodgers says that like the Packers weren't very transparent
- 13:50Speaker 1: with him, said that he couldn't get a hold of him. Hm,
- 13:54Speaker 1: wouldn't it be nice, Andrew and Bucky if we could
- 13:56Speaker 1: get Aaron and Brian to sit together and do a
- 13:59Speaker 1: pressor together. Wouldn't that be rad? Yeah, we carried that live.
- 14:05Speaker 1: That'll never happen, right, Okay, So listening to Brian Goudacoots
- 14:09Speaker 1: this week, almost punching back at Aaron Rodgers and his
- 14:12Speaker 1: comments on the Pat McAfee show. Because of what you
- 14:15Speaker 1: just said, Andrew, we couldn't get a hold of the quarterback.
- 14:18Speaker 1: And it's so interesting because I was again at that
- 14:20Speaker 1: week eighteen loss at home against Detroit. The next day,
- 14:23Speaker 1: I was reporting from the atrium at lambeau Field. I
- 14:26Speaker 1: bumped into a high ranking official and he said the
- 14:29Speaker 1: same thing. Corroborated it with me. We can't get ahold
- 14:32Speaker 1: of Aaron Rodgers. And by the way, maybe they just
- 14:35Speaker 1: were Bucky ready for Jordan Love because as Brian Goudacoots
- 14:38Speaker 1: also said, it's been trending that direction the whole time.
- 14:43Speaker 1: It's just time, frankly, for him to play football. I
- 14:46Speaker 1: think Aaron Rodgers knew that. I think the Packers knew that.
- 14:49Speaker 1: But obviously the miscommunication lived and it continues to live
- 14:53Speaker 1: between the two sides. But sooner than later is the
- 14:57Speaker 1: operative work for these Green Bay Packers, Bucky. They want
- 14:59Speaker 1: to get this thing done before the draft, because, as
- 15:01Speaker 1: Gudacoot said, it changes everything, especially when you think about
- 15:05Speaker 1: that word compensation. I expect them to get this down.
- 15:09Speaker 1: One side is going to have to budge Bucky. Yeah,
- 15:13Speaker 1: one side will eventually budge and they'll get the deal done.
- 15:15Speaker 1: And you know, Stacy's like, what you're hearing in terms
- 15:18Speaker 1: of goody talking is there's a sense of exasperation and
- 15:21Speaker 1: exhaustion from having to deal with the Aaron Rodgers saga
- 15:24Speaker 1: the last few years. Probably I've heard that, and so
- 15:28Speaker 1: there's going to be I guess, and the team will
- 15:31Speaker 1: energize in terms of the front office, the coaching staff
- 15:34Speaker 1: being able to prove to people that they can do
- 15:36Speaker 1: this without Aaron Rodgers. And that's not a slight to
- 15:38Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers, but at some point you want everyone who
- 15:42Speaker 1: is all in in terms of look pulling the boat
- 15:44Speaker 1: in the right direction. Everyone is getting along. There's a
- 15:47Speaker 1: level of chemistry and continuity where people are trying to
- 15:51Speaker 1: get this thing on the right path so you can
- 15:53Speaker 1: chase championships. Then will that happen in the immediate future
- 15:56Speaker 1: with Jordan Love. Who knows, But I do know there
- 15:59Speaker 1: are people that feel like Jordan Love is going to
- 16:01Speaker 1: be able to hold his own. He's had time to
- 16:03Speaker 1: develop on the practice, he's had opportunities to learn and grow,
- 16:08Speaker 1: and that was time to put it in play. And
- 16:10Speaker 1: remember Aaron Rodger's career started in a similar fashion where
- 16:13Speaker 1: he sat behind Brett for for a while and then
- 16:15Speaker 1: he finally handed the keys to the kingdom to him
- 16:17Speaker 1: and he responded to explindid fashion, maybe just maybe. Jordan
- 16:20Speaker 1: Lowe follows a similar booprint. The temper expectations line also
- 16:25Speaker 1: sticks out. Yesterday from Matt Lafloor. Wasn't a dig whatsoever,
- 16:29Speaker 1: just a little bit of dosa reality here and I'm
- 16:31Speaker 1: sure one that we will remember when they get back
- 16:34Speaker 1: on the field with Jordan Love. It seems in September, Stacey,
- 16:38Speaker 1: let's turn to the Lions. I mean, they were the
- 16:40Speaker 1: hottest team in football, one of them the second half
- 16:42Speaker 1: of the season, including beating the Packers Week eighteen and
- 16:45Speaker 1: keeping them out of the playoffs. One team here from
- 16:47Speaker 1: this annual meeting. The Lions are primed to win this year.
- 16:53Speaker 1: It seems they are primed to win. I would jump
- 16:57Speaker 1: through a brick wall for Dan Campbell. I don't know
- 16:59Speaker 1: about you too, but I would also be a show
- 17:01Speaker 1: of stacy. It would be. But there's just so much
- 17:04Speaker 1: that he's says and he does, and his actions and
- 17:07Speaker 1: the volumes they speak, the words that he speaks, and
- 17:10Speaker 1: he said, you know, the floor, he calls it. Now.
- 17:13Speaker 1: The floor has been raised in Detroit. We know that,
- 17:15Speaker 1: coach Campbell. They won eight of their last ten regular
- 17:18Speaker 1: season games. They should have been playing in the playoffs. Frankly,
- 17:21Speaker 1: they ended up, I would say, as the best team
- 17:23Speaker 1: in the NFC North at the end of the year.
- 17:26Speaker 1: An equivocally, he told reporters this week at the owners meetings.
- 17:30Speaker 1: The goal now is undoubtedly the division. They want to win,
- 17:34Speaker 1: the NFC North, and they are poised to do so
- 17:37Speaker 1: because not only have they revamped their defense, which by
- 17:40Speaker 1: the way, got a lot better towards the end of
- 17:41Speaker 1: the year, they have incredible draft capital of eight. They're APIs.
- 17:46Speaker 1: They have five through the first three rounds six, eighteen,
- 17:50Speaker 1: forty eight, fifty five and eighty one. Brad Holmes, the
- 17:53Speaker 1: general manager, has a lot to work with right there.
- 17:56Speaker 1: And then the best part above it all, about it
- 17:58Speaker 1: all is that Ben Johnson, their offensive coordinator, he didn't leave,
- 18:02Speaker 1: He stayed. This was a top five defense offense, excuse me,
- 18:05Speaker 1: in many metrics, and when you think about what they did,
- 18:08Speaker 1: they protected the ball better than anybody. They gave up
- 18:12Speaker 1: very few sacks, second in the NFL in terms of
- 18:15Speaker 1: few as sacks. They were a top five total defense,
- 18:19Speaker 1: scoring defense, a top five total defense. And it all
- 18:21Speaker 1: starts with that relationship with Jared Goff and Ben Johnson,
- 18:24Speaker 1: Bucky and Andrew. I cannot wait. They're going to be dynamic.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Jamison Williams is almost like getting another first round pick
- 18:30Speaker 1: because he barely played last year, replaced DJ Shark. But
- 18:34Speaker 1: this offense is going to be dynamic in my ice,
- 18:37Speaker 1: all trending in the right direction. D J Shark recently
- 18:40Speaker 1: added to the Carolina Panthers. We'll get to them coming
- 18:42Speaker 1: up in a little bit. Thank you, Bucky, Thank you
- 18:44Speaker 1: Stacy Be coming up next. However, but I told you
- 18:48Speaker 1: Bucky doesn't have will Levis in his first round. No, no, no, really,
- 18:52Speaker 1: it's strange but true. Not in his first round. The
- 18:56Speaker 1: Bucky mocked draft and why coming up next NFL? Now,
- 19:06Speaker 1: all right, let's get back to the Boockey books Brooks
- 19:08Speaker 1: a bigger part in pro Day and get back to Kentucky.
- 19:11Speaker 1: This past Friday, so Live a NFL plus will Levis
- 19:14Speaker 1: working out for had state quarterback ran a lot there.
- 19:17Speaker 1: It got to Kentucky had a really good twenty one
- 19:20Speaker 1: twenty two. Liam Cohen was here in La things a
- 19:24Speaker 1: little bit different, maybe not the big numbers, but he's
- 19:26Speaker 1: got the big arm. Here's Mark stoop Friday with Stacy Dale's.
- 19:31Speaker 1: He doesn't need us to make excuses for him. He
- 19:33Speaker 1: can own his own mistakes and he will when he does.
- 19:36Speaker 1: And there their times and plays um that you can't
- 19:41Speaker 1: defend and he knows that and he will learn from
- 19:44Speaker 1: that and grow from that. He's he's played two years
- 19:47Speaker 1: of the at this level. You know, we really got
- 19:49Speaker 1: on the field and play and he's going to get
- 19:51Speaker 1: better with every opportunity. Has all the physical skills, he
- 19:54Speaker 1: wants to be great, and he works at it. And
- 19:58Speaker 1: you saw when we did have three NFL offensive lineman
- 20:01Speaker 1: the year before and in the system that we had
- 20:03Speaker 1: and with Liam, the comfort level that he had in
- 20:05Speaker 1: that system, the success he had, and you know, so
- 20:10Speaker 1: you know last year, you know, it is what it is.
- 20:13Speaker 1: And you know, I would venture to say a lot
- 20:15Speaker 1: of NFL teams go through some ups and downs as well, absolutely,
- 20:18Speaker 1: and they want a guy that's going to just continue
- 20:20Speaker 1: to fight and continue to lead, and you know, I
- 20:24Speaker 1: know he'll do that. And the Liam again being Liam
- 20:26Speaker 1: Cohen the OC two years ago, spent last year in
- 20:29Speaker 1: LA and now is back with Kentucky. Here's a board
- 20:33Speaker 1: comparing Levis and Josh Allen, who came out in twenty eighteen.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Play action numbers here between Kentucky and Wyoming now Bucky Brooks.
- 20:42Speaker 1: In eighteen, Josh Allen went seventh overall to the Bills.
- 20:47Speaker 1: In your latest mock draft, and Mark is with us
- 20:49Speaker 1: as well. Fucking your latest mock. You have Levis, who
- 20:52Speaker 1: some have even projected as high as one, falling out
- 20:56Speaker 1: of the first round. Why because, quite frankly, Andrew like
- 21:02Speaker 1: you typically shouldn't take projects high in the first round.
- 21:05Speaker 1: And then when you think about Will Levis and what
- 21:08Speaker 1: is done. His coach just talked about the struggles that
- 21:10Speaker 1: you saw recently on tape. And so when I look
- 21:13Speaker 1: at Will Levis, I do see some intriguing attributes. I
- 21:16Speaker 1: do see the size, I see the athleticism, I see
- 21:19Speaker 1: the armed talent. But I also see someone who is
- 21:22Speaker 1: inconsistent when it comes to the accuracy, questionable judgment at
- 21:26Speaker 1: time when he has the ball in his hands. And
- 21:28Speaker 1: even though he has all of this upside, what I
- 21:31Speaker 1: worry about is if you overdraft him, there's depression to
- 21:34Speaker 1: put him on the field. Right away, and I don't
- 21:36Speaker 1: think he's built like that. And even though the comparison
- 21:39Speaker 1: to Josh Allen might be valid, I think Josh Allen
- 21:42Speaker 1: is a little different. I also think Josh Ellen was
- 21:44Speaker 1: surrounded by great supporting cast in Buffalo that pulls some
- 21:47Speaker 1: of that talent out of him that we didn't necessarily
- 21:49Speaker 1: see consistently at Won't. Yeah, but the one hundred percent
- 21:53Speaker 1: agree with you. But as we know, the NFL is
- 21:56Speaker 1: a copycat league, and that Josh Allen comparison is going
- 21:59Speaker 1: to get keep thrown around in draft rooms for proponents
- 22:03Speaker 1: of Will Levis, whether it's the court back coach, where
- 22:05Speaker 1: there's nariuscount, where it's a coordinator, whoever it is in
- 22:07Speaker 1: someone's building that's loving Will Levis because of the arm,
- 22:12Speaker 1: because of the athletic ability, They're going to keep referring
- 22:15Speaker 1: to Josh Shallen. And that comparison is because Josh Allen's
- 22:18Speaker 1: tape was not great at Wyoming, but he had the
- 22:20Speaker 1: physical traits. Will Levis's tape at there Kentucky is not great,
- 22:26Speaker 1: not good, So you have to lean on that if
- 22:28Speaker 1: you're a proponent or Will Levice and it just takes
- 22:32Speaker 1: one team. He only needs one team to say we
- 22:35Speaker 1: can get this out of him much for like we
- 22:37Speaker 1: did Josh Allen. As as Bucky said, I think Josh
- 22:40Speaker 1: Allen was special. That was a special case. Usually when
- 22:42Speaker 1: you have those guys, you can't follow it up and
- 22:44Speaker 1: say everybody's gonna be the next Josh Allen. So that
- 22:47Speaker 1: is a concern. But those who really want him, that's
- 22:50Speaker 1: where they're going to keep pushing towards and we'll see.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I think eventually he will end up with the Burnt
- 22:55Speaker 1: Crown people. Teams can't resist themselves, but there are huge
- 22:58Speaker 1: concerns that I have with his game. DJ and Charles,
- 23:02Speaker 1: Jeremiah and Davis last week had Will Levis going nineteen
- 23:06Speaker 1: and twenty three. Bucky, let's throw up your eleven through twenty.
- 23:11Speaker 1: You speaking of quarterbacks and speaking of guys that maybe
- 23:14Speaker 1: haven't done it enough but certainly have the traits and
- 23:17Speaker 1: certainly project to the next level. You have Anthony richardson
- 23:21Speaker 1: Bucky going twenty to the Seahawks. That one's interesting because
- 23:26Speaker 1: some people have them potentially going five to the Seahawks. Okay,
- 23:33Speaker 1: let me preface this by saying, I believe if we
- 23:35Speaker 1: were in a draft room, Will Levis and Anthony richards
- 23:38Speaker 1: and cars should be side by side. They should be
- 23:40Speaker 1: next to each other because the same conversation that I
- 23:43Speaker 1: have about Will Levis, I can have about Anthony Richardson
- 23:45Speaker 1: in terms of being intrigued by the physical tools but
- 23:49Speaker 1: also being concerned about the way that it played out.
- 23:52Speaker 1: The comparisons that people made with Anthony Richardson and Cam
- 23:55Speaker 1: Newton and Jalen Hurts to me, I think they're stretched
- 23:58Speaker 1: because both of those guys, respectively dominated in the SEC.
- 24:02Speaker 1: We haven't seen Anthony richard and do that. I said,
- 24:05Speaker 1: six four two forty four pounds, big time arm tellent,
- 24:09Speaker 1: outstanding athlete. If you're the Seattle Seahawks and you have
- 24:12Speaker 1: two first round picks, you have the luxury of maybe
- 24:14Speaker 1: parking in behind Geno Smith and maybe your coaching staff
- 24:18Speaker 1: can work wonders with him. That said, it's still a
- 24:21Speaker 1: big projection, and I am not confident that if Mark
- 24:24Speaker 1: asked me as a scout, if I was working for
- 24:27Speaker 1: him back in the day, could I say he's a
- 24:28Speaker 1: first round pick. I don't know if I can unanimously
- 24:31Speaker 1: say that Anthony Richson is a first round pick. Bucky.
- 24:35Speaker 1: The major thing you talk about was the domination, thinking
- 24:38Speaker 1: that what I would runs draft meetings and our scouts
- 24:40Speaker 1: were proponents for players and had all these physical tools.
- 24:44Speaker 1: They say, well, why he's had those at Florida? Why
- 24:47Speaker 1: didn't he dominate there? As he said, why wasn't he
- 24:49Speaker 1: very good? Why are we watching these games and they're
- 24:52Speaker 1: struggling so much? He's not. When I magically get to
- 24:55Speaker 1: the NFL and all these schools, he's got going to
- 24:57Speaker 1: come together. He should have shown that there. Now, if
- 25:00Speaker 1: you dominate at your level at the college level, then
- 25:03Speaker 1: you have from flaws. Then we can talk through it, say, yes,
- 25:05Speaker 1: he's gonna you're gonna overcome these falls because you've already
- 25:08Speaker 1: shown your ability to dominate. When you haven't done that
- 25:11Speaker 1: or even play particularly well, that's the concern. And yes,
- 25:14Speaker 1: I agree with you those two guys, Levis and Richardson
- 25:17Speaker 1: should be put together. But a place like Seattle is
- 25:19Speaker 1: the perfect place where there is no pressure. There's the
- 25:21Speaker 1: infrastructure there for him to grow. Whether you believe he's
- 25:25Speaker 1: going to be good or not, that's the environment he
- 25:27Speaker 1: has to be in that Levis has to be in
- 25:29Speaker 1: in order to have a chance to thrive. Andrew it
- 25:32Speaker 1: is a fascinating quarterback conversation because you don't want a
- 25:35Speaker 1: whiff on a first round quarterback, yet recent history shows
- 25:39Speaker 1: you there are a lot of whiffs on first round quarterbacks.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Thank you, Bucky, Thank you Mark again. Bucky's mock draft
- 25:47Speaker 1: right now on NFL dot com and you can see
- 25:50Speaker 1: Anthony richardson Throw tomorrow exclusively on NFL Plus. Go get
- 25:55Speaker 1: it bus dot NFL dot com, BLUs dot NFL dot com.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Carolina Panthers are going to be there, and they're going
- 26:02Speaker 1: to be right there in Kansas City at APM Eastern time,
- 26:05Speaker 1: the night of April twenty seventh, the NFL Draft one
- 26:07Speaker 1: month away, presented by the Horizon. Please make a note
- 26:12Speaker 1: of it all I mentioned the Carolina Panthers. They've got
- 26:17Speaker 1: a lot of good pieces in place already, including that
- 26:19Speaker 1: guy at the secondary and a lie back for sometimes
- 26:22Speaker 1: as well, depending on where you play him. We play
- 26:24Speaker 1: him right here at the desk. Coming up next. That
- 26:26Speaker 1: is Jeremy Chin in the building here at NFL Network.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Straight ahead on my mastate off the whists, the shotguns,
- 26:45Speaker 1: Jeremy Chin and the back field. Here's the pressure off
- 26:49Speaker 1: the edge. Gito's hit throws to the sunlo and swatted
- 26:53Speaker 1: away right. Jeremy Chin takes the snap, throws on the run,
- 26:58Speaker 1: nearly intercepted under center, pastens the crow. Thanks, now you're
- 27:02Speaker 1: gonna go down. Jeremy Chin sends paston down. Yeah, one
- 27:07Speaker 1: of the best. Actually, there are only three safeties last
- 27:10Speaker 1: year that according to PFF, and not a lot of
- 27:11Speaker 1: way touchdown went in primary coverage. We do film study
- 27:15Speaker 1: here and one of them is sitting at the desk
- 27:17Speaker 1: right now, the safety for the Carolina Panthers, Jeremy Chen.
- 27:20Speaker 1: It's good to see you. Thanks, Andrew. Happy to be here.
- 27:22Speaker 1: You've been spending a lot of time in LA. Tell
- 27:24Speaker 1: me what your off season has been like, a little
- 27:27Speaker 1: bit of traveling. Been out here, um Iron LA training
- 27:30Speaker 1: in Cino Hills Sports. We have LA, so they've helped
- 27:33Speaker 1: me a lot. Started doing some some different things, some
- 27:35Speaker 1: pilates as well, so it's helped me a lot. This
- 27:38Speaker 1: season two is doing jiu jitsu. You had the handy
- 27:41Speaker 1: last year. You're doing a lot more pilates. More pilates. Yeah,
- 27:45Speaker 1: and that's kind of hell. I mean pilates is the
- 27:47Speaker 1: thing now, Yeah, I mean that's what I've heard. So
- 27:49Speaker 1: you know, I got recommended it. I tried it a
- 27:51Speaker 1: couple months ago, and I've been hooked to it all right,
- 27:53Speaker 1: hoping it's gonna work and hoping we're getting ready for
- 27:55Speaker 1: a big year here. There are a lot of changes
- 27:57Speaker 1: obviously with your team. How about some of the free
- 27:58Speaker 1: agent moves. Can we throw them on the screen here,
- 28:01Speaker 1: because you guys as also obviously made the trade and
- 28:04Speaker 1: you're moving up to number one, Andy Daltons and now
- 28:07Speaker 1: with quarterback Miles Sanders, Hayden Hurst, DJ Chark, a lot
- 28:10Speaker 1: of moves around the offensive side, Adams Dealing as well.
- 28:14Speaker 1: What do you think, Jeremy, We got some we got
- 28:16Speaker 1: some dogs. We got a lot of pieces. I'm super excited.
- 28:19Speaker 1: I mean, you can see the plan as the heads
- 28:22Speaker 1: around you know whoever we end up taking, you know,
- 28:24Speaker 1: with some pieces. You know, Miles Sanders a solid, really
- 28:27Speaker 1: good running back. I remember playing against him. Um, he's
- 28:30Speaker 1: really good. Adam Dealing, how about to play against him
- 28:33Speaker 1: as well? Hayten Hurts a really good tight end, very
- 28:36Speaker 1: underrated in the league, I believe. So we have a
- 28:39Speaker 1: lot of pieces, a lot of a lot of guys.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Where were you when you heard that, you guys A
- 28:43Speaker 1: traded DJ Moore. Yeah, but B moved up to number one.
- 28:48Speaker 1: I was in Cabo, I was in Mexico. So you're
- 28:51Speaker 1: sitting by the pool, may you got your feet up,
- 28:54Speaker 1: got a drink, and your phone blows up We're moving
- 28:57Speaker 1: up to number one. I was, yeah, I was. I
- 28:59Speaker 1: was shocked your reaction total shock. I was like, damn.
- 29:03Speaker 1: My first thought was just losing DJ. That was really
- 29:06Speaker 1: the first thing that came to my mind. So, you know,
- 29:08Speaker 1: just you know, talking to my guys, and I called
- 29:10Speaker 1: my moms, like, yeah, we just traded DJ. You know.
- 29:12Speaker 1: She she's a big DJ more fans, so she was
- 29:14Speaker 1: upset about it. But um, but then realizing, like looking
- 29:17Speaker 1: at the bigger picture, saying, we have the number one
- 29:20Speaker 1: overall pick and just the future that you know we
- 29:22Speaker 1: have ahead of us is super excited too. Have you
- 29:25Speaker 1: had the chance to text Scott Federer yet and tell
- 29:27Speaker 1: him who you want at number one? No? I have
- 29:30Speaker 1: not have not texted him that yet. Have you watched
- 29:31Speaker 1: the quarterbacks at all? I mean, did you get a
- 29:33Speaker 1: chance on Saturdays we have a little bit of your
- 29:36Speaker 1: game on Sunday to have an opinion a little bit
- 29:38Speaker 1: Sunday night, you know, I mean Saturday night, you'll turn
- 29:39Speaker 1: on the hotel or whatever watched the game. So I
- 29:41Speaker 1: caught I've caught a good amount of both CJ. Stroud
- 29:44Speaker 1: and Bryce Young, but the other guys I haven't seen
- 29:46Speaker 1: too much of. But I mean, it is a transition.
- 29:48Speaker 1: I went and looked up all the quarterbacks here, So
- 29:50Speaker 1: since you got there, we have, Um, we got Teddy Bridgewater, PJ.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Sam cam Baker. Now it's gonna be Andy Dalton and
- 30:02Speaker 1: likely quarterback to me Dame later. Yeah, make your that's
- 30:05Speaker 1: a lot. It is a lot. What's it gonna be
- 30:07Speaker 1: like though, to transition, likely from a veteran to eventually
- 30:11Speaker 1: if you're taking a guy at number one? Yeah, I
- 30:13Speaker 1: mean what's that like for a locker room knowing that
- 30:15Speaker 1: there's likely going to be a guy over there waiting
- 30:18Speaker 1: to take over? Um, you know, I think the big
- 30:21Speaker 1: thing is, you know the leaders that are in the
- 30:22Speaker 1: locker room right now to you know, pick that guy
- 30:24Speaker 1: up and encourage them. And you know, you come in
- 30:27Speaker 1: here and then won't overall pig you automatically have a
- 30:29Speaker 1: leadership role. So just to encourage that and bring that
- 30:32Speaker 1: out of the quarterback that we do end up drafting.
- 30:34Speaker 1: I think it'll be good for the whole team. Let's
- 30:36Speaker 1: talk about your new role here as well, or what
- 30:38Speaker 1: the role is going to look like. Obviously Frank Wright
- 30:40Speaker 1: takes over. He's dead coach. We have a new DC
- 30:43Speaker 1: into Giro of Vero. Your first couple of years, a
- 30:46Speaker 1: little closer to the line of scrimmage. You're gonna call
- 30:48Speaker 1: it outside backer, but you're up there in the box
- 30:50Speaker 1: a lot last year, maybe a little bit more playing
- 30:53Speaker 1: on the back end. Do we know what the role
- 30:55Speaker 1: is going to look like now in this system? Yeah,
- 30:58Speaker 1: this is the MBA a little bit close's to a
- 30:59Speaker 1: line of scrimmage again, kind of how it was you
- 31:01Speaker 1: know on previous years. Do you like that? Yeah, I'm
- 31:03Speaker 1: super excited about it. Always I'll be able to be
- 31:06Speaker 1: around the ball more so that's really exciting. Um. You know,
- 31:10Speaker 1: talking to a Vero and UH coach Cooley, we have
- 31:12Speaker 1: plans and you know, I'm excited for kind of what
- 31:15Speaker 1: they had me doing a little bit. Coach Cooley, Jonathan Cooley,
- 31:17Speaker 1: who is the defensive back, one of the defensive back
- 31:19Speaker 1: coaches here in LA and now with you in UH
- 31:23Speaker 1: in Carolina. What about just overall, I mean, Frank Reich
- 31:26Speaker 1: and all these other former head coaches. I know you
- 31:28Speaker 1: really can't talk ball much yet, but what is the
- 31:30Speaker 1: vibe with this new staff. Yeah, just the conversation that
- 31:34Speaker 1: I've had with Brake Um. You know, I was able
- 31:37Speaker 1: to talk to him after he was hired, But I
- 31:39Speaker 1: mean it seems like a player's coach as something I'm
- 31:41Speaker 1: excited about. Also, just asking guys who he's coached before,
- 31:45Speaker 1: so as coach coach before, likes to find Gil Moore, Um,
- 31:48Speaker 1: you know Kenny Moore, Moiley Cox, guys that you coached
- 31:50Speaker 1: and Indy and you know they say the same thing
- 31:52Speaker 1: as a player's coach. You know, you know, great guy
- 31:54Speaker 1: to be around, great coach to be around. So I'm
- 31:56Speaker 1: excited to work with him. I'm excited for everything we
- 31:58Speaker 1: got going on. Excited for a big year contract here too. Yes, go,
- 32:03Speaker 1: I'm smaller contract here. Jeremy, Jeremy. It's great to see it.
- 32:06Speaker 1: So we're luck to you. Thank you appreciate it. NFL
