- 0:49Speaker 2: Furman, welcome in, man. How are you, my friend?
- 0:52Speaker 3: Well, gentlemen, I just want to know, are you guys
- 0:54Speaker 3: all decked out like Jim Cantore with the yellow slickers,
- 0:58Speaker 3: the rain hats, and proper rubber boots for the weather
- 1:01Speaker 3: storm that is impending in that fine neck of the woods?
- 1:04Speaker 2: Um, not yet.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Uh, it is, I'm going to be inside for that part, Furman,
- 1:09Speaker 1: but the, uh, the, all the reports.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Have been positive.
- 1:12Speaker 1: I think by the time the game gets here, the
- 1:15Speaker 1: weather will be through Tuscaloosa for sure. They're saving saying now,
- 1:19Speaker 1: even maybe by noon, the weather is through Tuscaloosa.
- 1:21Speaker 2: So that's good.
- 1:22Speaker 1: And the field should be fantastic. The sub air system,
- 1:25Speaker 1: Alabama's got there. I don't, I really don't think weather's
- 1:27Speaker 1: going to impact this game at all.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Tell Furman Furman.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I've done a couple of hits this week and they're
- 1:32Speaker 1: all amazed by this, but Right before the 2023 season,
- 1:36Speaker 1: Alabama dug up the grass and the dirt, their old
- 1:39Speaker 1: drainage system, and put it in the same drainage system as?
- 1:43Speaker 2: Augusta Nationals.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Furman has seen it on golf courses, the sub-air system,
- 1:47Speaker 1: and that will keep this playing surface really dry. I
- 1:51Speaker 1: don't think the weather will have any impact on this
- 1:53Speaker 1: game at all, Furman.
- 1:55Speaker 3: That's a good thing, because in my opinion, when you
- 1:57Speaker 3: look at the dynamics around these two teams, I think
- 1:59Speaker 3: ideal weather conditions no doubt give Alabama a competitive edge,
- 2:03Speaker 3: knowing how the deep ball has been a part of
- 2:05Speaker 3: Keelan Russell's arsenal, at least through the early going of
- 2:08Speaker 3: the season. And I think this is an Alabama team
- 2:10Speaker 3: built to try and find the explosive plays, more so
- 2:14Speaker 3: than a Georgia team that has been significantly more methodical,
- 2:16Speaker 3: dinking and dunking the ball down the field. You look
- 2:19Speaker 3: at the average depth of target for Gunnar Stockton, and
- 2:21Speaker 3: while he does have the veteran pedigree and a lot
- 2:23Speaker 3: more experience, just doesn't have the same playmakers, in my opinion,
- 2:26Speaker 3: wearing Georgia colors as we're going to see on the
- 2:28Speaker 3: Alabama sidelines. And when you compare strength to schedules as well,
- 2:32Speaker 3: other than Georgia's 41-13 thrashing of Oklahoma, who have the
- 2:35Speaker 3: Bulldogs really faced? And I'll go one step further, guys.
- 2:39Speaker 3: They haven't faced an offense anything close to the caliber
- 2:41Speaker 3: they're going to see tomorrow, which makes this such a
- 2:43Speaker 3: fascinating chess match for a variety of reasons.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and where are you on this total?
- 2:47Speaker 4: I had somebody reach out yesterday, and they're like, this
- 2:49Speaker 4: total should be more in the 60 range, you know,
- 2:52Speaker 4: with whether or not affecting it at all. It's opened
- 2:55Speaker 4: up at 54 and a half. I think it's down
- 2:57Speaker 4: to 51 and a half. I don't have a stomach
- 3:00Speaker 4: to play the under, but I don't know if I
- 3:01Speaker 4: really want to go over here.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Where are you?
- 3:03Speaker 3: I actually opened a little bit higher than that. Even
- 3:06Speaker 3: LT 56 and a half was what I saw as
- 3:08Speaker 3: the consensus total. You mentioned it being down to 51
- 3:10Speaker 3: and a lot of that is weather driven. So I
- 3:12Speaker 3: think as the forecast continues to clear up and their
- 3:15Speaker 3: expectations that mother nature won't have her say in the
- 3:17Speaker 3: marquee game at six 30 central tomorrow night, You are
- 3:21Speaker 3: going to see a substantial amount of support for the
- 3:23Speaker 3: over coming in this game. Both these teams have been
- 3:25Speaker 3: unblemished in that department going over their total. Of course,
- 3:28Speaker 3: Georgia just sneaking over the closing number of 51 last
- 3:31Speaker 3: week against Vanderbilt. But I would have no problem whatsoever
- 3:34Speaker 3: going over a total of 51 if I don't think
- 3:36Speaker 3: weather is going.
- 3:37Speaker 2: To play a role.
- 3:38Speaker 3: And even if the wet stuff holds off and we're
- 3:39Speaker 3: looking at 12 to 15 mile an hour wind gusts,
- 3:42Speaker 3: that's not going to keep me off a total. I
- 3:44Speaker 3: think both these offenses are going to look for some
- 3:45Speaker 3: of those big plays and be able to find success
- 3:49Speaker 3: against their defensive counterparts.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Just for the record, because we were discussing this in
- 3:54Speaker 1: the last segment and Lance says it was the national
- 3:56Speaker 1: championship game in Indianapolis. Is that the last time Alabama
- 3:59Speaker 1: actually went off as the favorite against Georgia Furman?
- 4:01Speaker 2: Do you know?
- 4:03Speaker 5: You know what?
- 4:03Speaker 3: Don't have those numbers in front of me, but it
- 4:05Speaker 3: has definitely been a little while since we've seen that.
- 4:08Speaker 3: I know these teams don't have a ton of history
- 4:10Speaker 3: against one another. If I know all the talk about, oh,
- 4:13Speaker 3: Georgia hasn't won in Tuscaloosa since 2007. I mean, they
- 4:16Speaker 3: haven't played that many games there. But it's definitely rare
- 4:19Speaker 3: for Georgia to go into a football game catching points
- 4:22Speaker 3: like this. So it's something to think about. And for
- 4:24Speaker 3: a lot of folks, that's enough to try and get
- 4:26Speaker 3: them across the finish line when they want to try
- 4:28Speaker 3: and back to Bulldogs.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Dr.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Furman is with us here on Sporting State in the
- 4:31Speaker 1: next round. I want to bounce around to some other
- 4:33Speaker 1: games away from the big one here in Tuscaloosa. Let's
- 4:37Speaker 1: go Red River. Everybody's giving Oklahoma up for dead. Texas
- 4:40Speaker 1: and Oklahoma. Is there a path to victory to win
- 4:43Speaker 1: the game outright for John Mateer and the Sooners?
- 4:47Speaker 3: I think there is. And when you look at this
- 4:48Speaker 3: Oklahoma team, the reality of it is their offense has
- 4:51Speaker 3: left a lot to be desired. But I'm not sure
- 4:53Speaker 3: we should be giving Texas up. We've seen from the
- 4:56Speaker 3: Longhorns thus far, you back out the nine good minutes
- 4:59Speaker 3: they played in the fourth quarter against Ohio State. They
- 5:01Speaker 3: were far from dominant. Last time we saw them against
- 5:04Speaker 3: Tennessee at Neyland Stadium against a quarterback who has since
- 5:07Speaker 3: been benched for the Vols. And when you're looking at
- 5:10Speaker 3: their performance, even against UTSA, Arch Manning's numbers don't jump
- 5:14Speaker 3: off the page. So I think Texas being asked to
- 5:16Speaker 3: go out there and win by margin is more than
- 5:18Speaker 3: a touchdown favor. Could be a big ask. On the
- 5:21Speaker 3: flip side, if you're Oklahoma, you know your season is
- 5:23Speaker 3: hanging in the balance. We throw around the term desperation
- 5:25Speaker 3: all the time in college football, but that should definitely
- 5:28Speaker 3: resonate for the Sooners. If you lose this game, you're
- 5:31Speaker 3: kind of just playing out the string, and the playoffs,
- 5:33Speaker 3: in my opinion, really becomes something that becomes a long shot.
- 5:37Speaker 3: With this number over 7.5, I have a very strong
- 5:39Speaker 3: lean towards Oklahoma. Kind of kicking myself a bit that
- 5:42Speaker 3: I didn't grab the 10. I haven't bet it yet, though,
- 5:44Speaker 3: but one of the lower totals you're going to see.
- 5:46Speaker 3: And this is a lot more like an Iowa football
- 5:48Speaker 3: game than what we've grown accustomed to in the SEC
- 5:51Speaker 3: at 39 and a half.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Furman, if you would have told me three weeks ago
- 5:54Speaker 4: that I could get Louisville only three and a half
- 5:56Speaker 4: at home against Florida State, I would have jumped all
- 5:58Speaker 4: over it. I don't know what that early number was,
- 6:00Speaker 4: if there was one three weeks ago. But this Florida
- 6:03Speaker 4: State offense, red zone offense, 21 of 21. Ashton Daniels
- 6:07Speaker 4: is up and down. but he played well last week
- 6:09Speaker 4: against Virginia. This defense has turned it around. Louisville back-to-back
- 6:13Speaker 4: three-point losses, but their defense is horrendous.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Where are you on tonight's ACC matchup?
- 6:19Speaker 3: A Florida State record last week for Ashton Daniels with
- 6:22Speaker 3: five rushing touchdowns against Virginia. They got down 7-0 and
- 6:26Speaker 3: then found another gear. I do think lost in Florida
- 6:29Speaker 3: State's dominant win against Virginia is that Bo Padula came
- 6:32Speaker 3: into that game banged up. There wasn't much in the
- 6:34Speaker 3: way it designed runs, but even if he was 100%,
- 6:35Speaker 3: the way the Knowles looked, I'm not sure it changes
- 6:38Speaker 3: the outcome all that much. Louisville has been an interesting
- 6:41Speaker 3: team because I was high on them coming into the year.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Love the way they played against Ole Miss in the opener.
- 6:46Speaker 3: And since that point, they've really underwhelmed and been a
- 6:48Speaker 3: little disappointing. They were better in the yards per play
- 6:50Speaker 3: category last week against NC State. I think they were
- 6:53Speaker 3: a little unfortunate to lose that football game. Outplayed for
- 6:56Speaker 3: the better part of four quarters by Wake Forest two
- 6:59Speaker 3: weeks ago. And the big storyline going into tonight's game
- 7:02Speaker 3: is the health of Lincoln Kienholz, who we know was
- 7:04Speaker 3: going to be a game time decision and kind of
- 7:06Speaker 3: looked severely limited against the Wolfpack a week ago. If
- 7:10Speaker 3: Keenholz is over some of those injury limitations, I think
- 7:13Speaker 3: this is a buy low point for Louisville. But these
- 7:15Speaker 3: two teams feel like different ships passing one another in
- 7:18Speaker 3: the night. And I want to use this as a
- 7:19Speaker 3: data point in terms of how I'm going to assess
- 7:21Speaker 3: both these teams when we get into the second half
- 7:23Speaker 3: of the schedule.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Do you fear, Furman, a look ahead factor for BYU
- 7:28Speaker 1: against Iowa State late game there at Lavelle Edwards Stadium?
- 7:31Speaker 1: But next week, the late game at Lavelle Edwards Stadium
- 7:34Speaker 1: is Notre Dame. Is there a chance BYU's got a
- 7:36Speaker 1: little look ahead?
- 7:38Speaker 3: I don't feel that way. And the reason for that
- 7:40Speaker 3: is because BYU was extremely fortunate to get through TCU
- 7:43Speaker 3: last week. I mean, they look like they were going
- 7:45Speaker 3: through the motions. I know there was some weather that
- 7:48Speaker 3: really slowed down what BYU could do, but it wasn't
- 7:50Speaker 3: until they had a late drive that they were able
- 7:52Speaker 3: to create a little bit of separation in one of
- 7:54Speaker 3: the uglier football games we've seen. Now, BYU did learn
- 7:57Speaker 3: this week they're going to be without star running back L.J.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Martin for the better part of a month, dealing with
- 8:01Speaker 3: a high ankle sprain. But I've talked to people around Provo,
- 8:04Speaker 3: and they say the backup running back they think is
- 8:06Speaker 3: more dynamic, he's shiftier in space, and it's a little
- 8:09Speaker 3: bit better as a dual threat in this particular spot.
- 8:11Speaker 3: So I'm really curious to see what this BYU offense
- 8:14Speaker 3: looks like here. Meanwhile, for Iowa State, I mean, they
- 8:17Speaker 3: played one of the more exciting games, not just of
- 8:19Speaker 3: last weekend, but of the early going amongst Power 4
- 8:21Speaker 3: Conference opponents. You know, sneaking by West Virginia, pushing as
- 8:25Speaker 3: a three-point favorite in a game that did not lack
- 8:27Speaker 3: for offense with both teams going north at 500 yards.
- 8:30Speaker 3: I think Iowa State's going to have some real difficulty
- 8:32Speaker 3: moving the football against this BYU defense. We've seen this
- 8:35Speaker 3: total start to take down for a peak of 47.5.
- 8:37Speaker 3: We're now looking at 46.5 at Hard Rock Bet. If
- 8:41Speaker 3: the number did come below 10, I would be inclined
- 8:43Speaker 3: to value bet BYU. Normally, I would be concerned about
- 8:46Speaker 3: the look-ahead spot to Notre Dame, but I think Coach
- 8:49Speaker 3: Sataki got the team's attention given how poor their performance
- 8:52Speaker 3: was last week in TCU, and I think Iowa State
- 8:54Speaker 3: struggled to get to 14 points.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Back to God's Conference, the SEC. Texas A & M,
- 8:59Speaker 2: Missouri tomorrow.
- 9:00Speaker 1: There's a lot of Oklahoma feel around the Texas A &
- 9:04Speaker 1: M offense this year, but I like them as a
- 9:07Speaker 1: live dog on the road.
- 9:08Speaker 2: What about you?
- 9:10Speaker 3: I think from a situational spot, things line up for
- 9:12Speaker 3: A & M, figuring that Missouri can't be nearly as
- 9:15Speaker 3: good or as sharp as what they were last week
- 9:17Speaker 3: in that absolute throttling of the Florida Gators on homecoming.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Shout out to Missouri for scheduling Florida on homecoming, going
- 9:24Speaker 3: in there as a five and a half point underdog.
- 9:26Speaker 3: and allowing the fans to really celebrate the strength of
- 9:29Speaker 3: that victory. This game for A & M is going
- 9:31Speaker 3: to be so interesting because I am like you. I
- 9:33Speaker 3: do think there's a lot of Oklahoma to their offense.
- 9:36Speaker 3: You watched last week against Arkansas, and it wasn't that
- 9:39Speaker 3: much more dynamic throwing the football. It was a lot
- 9:42Speaker 3: of one look, get the ball out of Marcel Reed's hands.
- 9:44Speaker 3: But I think the element that it was good to
- 9:46Speaker 3: see for A & M is they leaned into Marcel
- 9:48Speaker 3: Reed's mobility. There were designed runs in there, and it
- 9:51Speaker 3: forced Arkansas to kind of defend in a very different way.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Unfortunately for A & M, the strength of this Missouri
- 9:57Speaker 3: football team is what they can do up front. We
- 9:59Speaker 3: saw their run defense on full display, kind of bottling
- 10:02Speaker 3: up Jaden Ball and the Florida Gators last week. I'm
- 10:04Speaker 3: not sure they'll be as buttoned up here. It's a
- 10:06Speaker 3: slightly different run concept that they're going to face. I
- 10:08Speaker 3: actually like this game under the total. I know the
- 10:11Speaker 3: market has moved against me. There was a lot of
- 10:13Speaker 3: over money that came in last night. But I think
- 10:15Speaker 3: both of these defenses are going to be able to
- 10:17Speaker 3: get the better part of their respective offenses they're going
- 10:20Speaker 3: to face. And I think it's the first team to
- 10:23Speaker 3: 24 to get out of coma with a win. I'll
- 10:24Speaker 3: go under the total of 48 and a half here
- 10:26Speaker 3: between A & M and Mizzou.
- 10:28Speaker 4: Kentucky and Will Stein's first year has been a great
- 10:31Speaker 4: story in college football.
- 10:32Speaker 2: But this is a team.
- 10:33Speaker 4: It was down 17 to South Carolina. I had the
- 10:36Speaker 4: Gamecocks minus two and a half. That was a tough loss.
- 10:39Speaker 4: With all that said, LSU rolls in right now. Eight
- 10:42Speaker 4: and a half point favorites. I've heard a lot of
- 10:44Speaker 4: people talking about live dog here. I like the favorite.
- 10:47Speaker 4: Where are you on LSU, Kentucky?
- 10:50Speaker 3: This is another game we want to monitor for weather.
- 10:53Speaker 3: It may end up being a more heavily impacted weather
- 10:56Speaker 3: game in Lexington than what you guys are going to
- 10:59Speaker 3: see down there in Tuscaloosa. And if that's the case,
- 11:02Speaker 3: it makes it tough to win by margin. But I
- 11:03Speaker 3: do think when you look at LSU... the strength of
- 11:06Speaker 3: their team, at least through the early going, has been
- 11:08Speaker 3: what they've shown on the defensive side. And that could
- 11:11Speaker 3: pose some problems for a Kentucky team that's been extremely
- 11:13Speaker 3: efficient running the football. The passing game has kind of
- 11:16Speaker 3: been hit or miss, but regardless of how they perform
- 11:18Speaker 3: against LSU here, it's already been a resounding win thus
- 11:21Speaker 3: far for Will Stein and what we've seen from the Wildcats.
- 11:24Speaker 3: With the comeback win last week against South Carolina, as
- 11:26Speaker 3: you alluded to, LT, and of course going on the
- 11:28Speaker 3: road in College Station, winning that game outright as a
- 11:31Speaker 3: 17-point dog. I am waiting to see if this number
- 11:34Speaker 3: kicks down a little bit, much closer to backing LSU
- 11:37Speaker 3: in the road favor role than I would be to
- 11:39Speaker 3: backing Kentucky as a home underdog. Fun games that I
- 11:42Speaker 3: think a lot of SEC fans won't pay nearly as
- 11:44Speaker 3: much attention to, given the fact that Alabama and Georgia
- 11:47Speaker 3: is the headliner. But this game is going to teach
- 11:49Speaker 3: us an awful lot about two teams. In LSU's case,
- 11:53Speaker 3: if they can be legitimate conference threats and they're starting
- 11:55Speaker 3: to assert themselves, and if Kentucky can take another step
- 11:58Speaker 3: forward and essentially what's year zero under new head coach
- 12:00Speaker 3: Bill Stein.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Berman, the nation's longest winning streak, travels to Lincoln, Nebraska,
- 12:08Speaker 1: a place where Nebraska hasn't won many of these games
- 12:11Speaker 1: of late. Indiana's got tougher games in front of them.
- 12:14Speaker 1: I asked you about a look ahead with BYU. Indiana's
- 12:16Speaker 1: got Ohio State next week. I got a feel right here, man.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I feel like this is a spot for Nebraska. Am
- 12:22Speaker 1: I absolutely crazy to think Nebraska can win this game,
- 12:24Speaker 1: will win this game outright?
- 12:26Speaker 2: Are you crazy? No.
- 12:27Speaker 3: There has been very real respected money that has come
- 12:30Speaker 3: in on the Cornhuskers in this spot. Will I be
- 12:32Speaker 3: part of that brigade to back Matt Rule to win
- 12:35Speaker 3: a game of this magnitude? I will not find myself
- 12:38Speaker 3: with a Nebraska ticket in hand. Weather could play a
- 12:41Speaker 3: role in this contest as well. It's supposed to be
- 12:43Speaker 3: one of the windiest environments for all of the FBS tomorrow.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Sustained winds, you know, 25 to 30 miles an hour,
- 12:49Speaker 3: which I actually think hurts Nebraska significantly. Oddly enough, because
- 12:52Speaker 3: Indiana's strength this year has been running the football. I'm
- 12:55Speaker 3: not sure Coach Stig has the utmost confidence just yet
- 12:58Speaker 3: in Josh Hoover. And when I look at this Indiana team,
- 13:01Speaker 3: the questions that I need this defense to answer are
- 13:03Speaker 3: on the back end. And if weather plays a role here,
- 13:06Speaker 3: I'm not sure Nebraska, led by Ty Calandra, is going
- 13:09Speaker 3: to be able to throw the deep ball and take
- 13:10Speaker 3: advantage there. One of the hidden metrics to pay attention
- 13:13Speaker 3: to in this game that I think could plague Nebraska
- 13:16Speaker 3: is actually how undisciplined they've been even against inferior foes
- 13:19Speaker 3: so far. Outside the top 100 in penalty yardage allowed,
- 13:22Speaker 3: Indiana inside the top five. It's some of those hidden
- 13:25Speaker 3: edges when you're looking at two teams that at least
- 13:27Speaker 3: in theory have a little bit of a class difference
- 13:29Speaker 3: that could change the dynamic. Again, I'm not going to
- 13:32Speaker 3: disrespect the sharp money that's come in and made Nebraska
- 13:34Speaker 3: buy at 7.5 or better, but this feels like a
- 13:37Speaker 3: little bit of a coaching mismatch, and maybe we'll start
- 13:39Speaker 3: to see glimpses of an Indiana team getting themselves ready
- 13:43Speaker 3: for arguably one of the biggest games in the Big
- 13:45Speaker 3: Ten next week when they welcome in the Ohio State Buckeyes.
- 13:48Speaker 1: We'll get some NFL numbers here in a second, but
- 13:51Speaker 1: I want to ask you about one more college game
- 13:52Speaker 1: at least because this is where I run into the
- 13:56Speaker 1: I don't understand what we're doing part of college stuff.
- 14:00Speaker 1: and when it comes to wagering out in Vegas. USC,
- 14:04Speaker 1: who I think is a playoff contender, only has one
- 14:07Speaker 1: loss to Oregon. Penn State got embarrassed at Northwestern. But
- 14:11Speaker 1: all week long, Penn State's been the favorite in this game.
- 14:14Speaker 1: What am I not adding up here? This doesn't make
- 14:17Speaker 1: sense to me, Furman.
- 14:19Speaker 3: The fact that USC, when they leave the Western time zone,
- 14:23Speaker 3: has been an auto fade playing in the Central time
- 14:25Speaker 3: zone or out East. And we'll see if they can
- 14:28Speaker 3: kind of change that narrative at Beaver Stadium for the
- 14:31Speaker 3: whiteout on Saturday. I'm still shocked that Penn State wants
- 14:34Speaker 3: to call it a whiteout, given what transpired in their
- 14:36Speaker 3: fraternities before the season started. But I digress completely in
- 14:39Speaker 3: that regard. Let's see what we get from USC. I mean,
- 14:43Speaker 3: there is no doubt done away that if they believe
- 14:45Speaker 3: they're legitimate playoff contenders, this is a game that they
- 14:47Speaker 3: have to win knowing how much more difficult their schedule
- 14:51Speaker 3: gets going forward. Penn State has had to deal with
- 14:53Speaker 3: that level of embarrassment, not just last Friday night against
- 14:56Speaker 3: Northwestern where the Wildcats felt like they were treating them
- 14:59Speaker 3: like a small seven-on-seven high school football team with their
- 15:03Speaker 3: ability to run the football, but blowing a 17-0 lead
- 15:06Speaker 3: the week before against Wisconsin as well where they were
- 15:08Speaker 3: dominated on the box score. So this game, I don't
- 15:11Speaker 3: know if I trust either of these teams to go
- 15:13Speaker 3: out there and play to a high level. I wasn't
- 15:15Speaker 3: overly impressed with the Trojans' narrow victory last week against Washington,
- 15:19Speaker 3: where the Huskies found some success on the ground despite
- 15:21Speaker 3: being down their first, second, and third string running back.
- 15:23Speaker 3: So this is a game I am very intrigued to
- 15:26Speaker 3: see which of these teams can get right and if
- 15:28Speaker 3: USC can finally vanquish some of those demons traveling from
- 15:31Speaker 3: the West Coast across the country. And as we're talking
- 15:34Speaker 3: right now, numbers starting to leak out even further. Penn
- 15:37Speaker 3: State out to as much as a two-and-a-half point favorite
- 15:38Speaker 3: at some spots. But still one and a half to
- 15:40Speaker 3: consensus and even with our friends at Hard Rock Back.
- 15:43Speaker 4: Jumping to the NFL real quick, both of these guys
- 15:46Speaker 4: have got my Rams in their top five power rankings.
- 15:49Speaker 2: I don't trust them.
- 15:50Speaker 4: I think, you know, in the next month or so
- 15:51Speaker 4: when they get whole, they could be that team. But
- 15:54Speaker 4: right now, very shaky. Unfortunately, Josh Allen coming off a loss.
- 15:58Speaker 4: Rams minus three in SoFi Monday night. Where are you
- 16:02Speaker 4: on this one?
- 16:03Speaker 3: I've laid the three with the Rams in this game.
- 16:06Speaker 3: I still think it's a buy-low opportunity for a Rams
- 16:08Speaker 3: team that, while coming in at 2-2, has been absolutely
- 16:11Speaker 3: dominant each of the last two weeks. When you look
- 16:13Speaker 3: at the underlying metrics, the yards gained from a net
- 16:16Speaker 3: yards per play standpoint, they were unfortunate the way that
- 16:19Speaker 3: second half unfolded against the Denver Broncos. And while a
- 16:22Speaker 3: lot of people will call their comeback win against the
- 16:24Speaker 3: Eagles improbable in the way they did it, I mean,
- 16:27Speaker 3: they completely bottled up Philadelphia from start to finish. They
- 16:30Speaker 3: came up with the big stop when they needed it.
- 16:32Speaker 3: And Kyron Williams ran and caught the ball like a
- 16:34Speaker 3: man possessed. I think this is a game where the
- 16:36Speaker 3: Rams can put together four quarters. We've only had the
- 16:39Speaker 3: opportunity to see Matthew Stafford operate once all season in
- 16:42Speaker 3: pristine conditions. That of course was the Monday night game
- 16:44Speaker 3: against the giants. And he was able to take full
- 16:47Speaker 3: advantage of the Jackson dart injury. This Buffalo defense has
- 16:50Speaker 3: a lot of questions specifically on the back end and
- 16:53Speaker 3: Puka Nakua appears to be a matchup nightmare that I'm
- 16:55Speaker 3: not sure they can slow down. And the other thing
- 16:57Speaker 3: in this game that I don't know if got enough
- 16:59Speaker 3: buzz going into their performance against the Patriots. I mean,
- 17:02Speaker 3: we saw Josh Allen take the hit to the knee
- 17:05Speaker 3: with about eight minutes to go against the Chargers. You know,
- 17:07Speaker 3: wasn't really talked about, you know, what kind of it
- 17:09Speaker 3: was a bone bruise, an MCL sprain or anything else.
- 17:12Speaker 3: And then you watch Josh Allen's performance last week against
- 17:14Speaker 3: New England. He didn't look nearly as elusive as a runner.
- 17:17Speaker 3: He wasn't as dynamic in the pocket, making throws on
- 17:19Speaker 3: the run and even forced one into double coverage late
- 17:21Speaker 3: in that game when Buffalo was playing. for a game-tying
- 17:24Speaker 3: field goal. I think the Rams are going to be
- 17:26Speaker 3: able to create some pressure, get Josh Allen off the spot,
- 17:29Speaker 3: and I think the Rams could arguably have a legitimate
- 17:31Speaker 3: case to be able to score every time they have
- 17:32Speaker 3: the ball. I like the Rams' team total over, and
- 17:35Speaker 3: I'm more than happy to lay to three. I think
- 17:36Speaker 3: this game closes three and a half or higher.
- 17:37Speaker 1: All right, Dunaway and I both have a game in
- 17:40Speaker 1: the late Sunday window. I'll start with the 49ers, who
- 17:43Speaker 1: we all have very high in our power rankings, at
- 17:45Speaker 1: the Seahawks, where Seattle is minus.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Three, Furman.
- 17:49Speaker 3: In-depth breakdown. I did about 15, 16 minutes on this
- 17:53Speaker 3: game on the Bet the Board podcast to encourage all
- 17:55Speaker 3: the people that want to nerd out for this NFC
- 17:58Speaker 3: West showdown to take a listen there and find some
- 18:01Speaker 3: of the compelling angles that we approached. One thing that
- 18:04Speaker 3: has changed, though, since we broke that game down, Leonard
- 18:07Speaker 3: Williams logged a DNP key linchpin for the Seattle Seahawks
- 18:11Speaker 3: defensive line yesterday. Interested to see if he's able to
- 18:14Speaker 3: get a limited practice or a full practice defense in today.
- 18:17Speaker 3: This 49ers team has been as good as advertised. Offensively,
- 18:21Speaker 3: I mean, they're extremely dynamic. Brock Purdy, total command of
- 18:24Speaker 3: Kyle Shanahan's offense. But this is going to be a
- 18:26Speaker 3: little bit of a different beast they're going to face
- 18:28Speaker 3: here against Seattle. And it's hard to ignore the fact
- 18:30Speaker 3: that the Niners needed injuries to not just Patrick Sertan,
- 18:33Speaker 3: but also Riley Moss to be able to win that
- 18:35Speaker 3: game by margin last week. fascinating game uh did take
- 18:39Speaker 3: a little bit under 47 46 and a half probably
- 18:42Speaker 3: out of range uh but i'll let people listen to
- 18:44Speaker 3: the bet the board podcast to figure out what side
- 18:46Speaker 3: we landed on for the game and.
- 18:48Speaker 1: The last one for me i don't know who had
- 18:49Speaker 1: uh sunday october 11th on the day for sean payton
- 18:53Speaker 1: to take back over play calling but but he has
- 18:55Speaker 1: done it going in how does that make the broncos
- 18:58Speaker 1: different for you Look, as.
- 19:00Speaker 3: We've learned around the National Football League, there is no
- 19:03Speaker 3: bigger fan of Sean Payton than Sean Payton himself. So
- 19:06Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure if you asked him, he could fix
- 19:08Speaker 3: just about everything that ails both on the football field
- 19:11Speaker 3: and off. But the crazy part about it is I
- 19:13Speaker 3: don't think Davis Webb is to blame for the problems
- 19:17Speaker 3: that have really been on full display for the Denver
- 19:19Speaker 3: Broncos offense so far. You look at Bo Nix through
- 19:22Speaker 3: the early going this season, he's roughly six and a
- 19:25Speaker 3: half points below league average and completion rate and about
- 19:28Speaker 3: six and a half points below in success rate on
- 19:31Speaker 3: throws when he's targeting receiver 10 plus yards downfield. Go
- 19:34Speaker 3: back and watch the all 22 from last week's game
- 19:36Speaker 3: against the 49ers. There were wide open receivers downfield, but
- 19:40Speaker 3: Nick kind of felt a little bit more comfortable checking
- 19:42Speaker 3: it down to Bo Nix, despite his comments and a
- 19:45Speaker 3: presser this week that said he was seeing the field
- 19:47Speaker 3: better than he had last year at any point. So
- 19:50Speaker 3: I have some issues there with this Broncos team. I
- 19:52Speaker 3: think they're a little bit banged up defensively. And I'm
- 19:55Speaker 3: not sure it's as simple as waving the magic wand,
- 19:58Speaker 3: because I think a lot of the issues that Bo
- 19:59Speaker 3: Nix showed a season ago were kind of swept under
- 20:02Speaker 3: the rug with those improbable fourth quarter comebacks, which is
- 20:05Speaker 3: a skill set in and of itself. But you still
- 20:07Speaker 3: have to make the easy throws. You have to build
- 20:09Speaker 3: these early in games. And right now this Denver Broncos
- 20:11Speaker 3: is operating at one of the worst paces in the
- 20:14Speaker 3: first 30 minutes in terms of a scoring margin that
- 20:15Speaker 3: we've seen.
- 20:16Speaker 1: All right, we'll wrap the way we always do with
- 20:18Speaker 1: Furman is under the radar play for a college football Saturday.
- 20:21Speaker 2: You guys love it. Where are we going under the
- 20:23Speaker 2: radar today, Furman?
- 20:25Speaker 3: I mean, boys, it has been a legitimate struggle bus
- 20:27Speaker 3: in this category this season. I'm not going to dance
- 20:29Speaker 3: around it and sugarcoat it. I mean, when you go
- 20:31Speaker 3: under the total between New Mexico and UTEP and New
- 20:34Speaker 3: Mexico scores 61 on their own, it's tough to be
- 20:36Speaker 3: able to cash a ticket under 48. So we're going
- 20:38Speaker 3: to save people the headache and trouble of dealing with
- 20:41Speaker 3: totals this week. And we are going to a game
- 20:44Speaker 3: that I don't think anybody is going to watch. in
- 20:46Speaker 3: the Mountain West. And that's going to be to fade
- 20:48Speaker 3: the Air Force Academy traveling to DeKalb. I don't know
- 20:51Speaker 3: exactly if you get an Allegiant flight directly from Colorado
- 20:54Speaker 3: Springs to DeKalb. It's a route I don't think any
- 20:56Speaker 3: of the four of us have ever made or will
- 20:58Speaker 3: plan to make. But Air Force has the unfortunate situation
- 21:02Speaker 3: of now dealing with a backup quarterback. Their starter, Liam Zarko,
- 21:05Speaker 3: was lost for the year. and their win against Navy.
- 21:08Speaker 3: Air Force has a massive game on deck within the
- 21:11Speaker 3: conference pecking order. This is an NIU team that I
- 21:14Speaker 3: thought was going to be one of the worst in
- 21:15Speaker 3: the FBS coming into the year, but they've actually been
- 21:17Speaker 3: a little bit better. You have two weeks to prepare
- 21:20Speaker 3: for the unique subtleties of what Air Force wants to
- 21:22Speaker 3: do on the offensive side. And while it's the definition
- 21:24Speaker 3: of ugly, I'm not going to sugarcoat it. I'll take
- 21:26Speaker 3: the NIU Huskies plus the seven and a half against
- 21:29Speaker 3: the Air Force Falcons traveling across the country.
- 21:32Speaker 1: All right, you heard Furman mention breakdowns on Bet the
- 21:34Speaker 1: Board podcast. That is part of Sporting State now, sportingstate.com.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Bet the Board podcast is where you find it, and
- 21:40Speaker 1: follow Furman on social media at Todd Furman.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Enjoy the games this weekend, Furman. Thank you for the time, buddy.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Always a pleasure, gentlemen.
- 21:46Speaker 3: You guys do the same, and hopefully everyone stays safe
- 21:48Speaker 3: if they find themselves in the path of the storm.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Very well said. Thank you for saying that, Furman. We
- 21:53Speaker 1: appreciate it, buddy. See you next Friday. That is Todd
- 21:55Speaker 1: Furman with us on the show. We end That interview
- 21:58Speaker 1: was some sad news.
- 21:59Speaker 2: That's right.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Our headlines coming up in the next segment for the
- 22:02Speaker 1: guys back in the studio to get that ready.
- 22:04Speaker 2: But we had some breaking news while we're talking to Furman.
- 22:07Speaker 1: The legendary coach and player, Hall of Famer Mike Ditka
- 22:10Speaker 1: has passed away.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Yeah, age 86.
- 22:12Speaker 1: His family has announced that Coach Ditka passed away today.
- 22:15Speaker 1: I did not know this until I just read it
- 22:18Speaker 1: from Adam Schefter that he was the first tight end
- 22:20Speaker 1: ever inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I
- 22:22Speaker 1: knew he was a Hall of Famer, did not realize
- 22:25Speaker 1: he did that as a tight end, but or was
- 22:27Speaker 1: the first tight end, I should say, but then also
- 22:29Speaker 1: went on to win the Super Bowl with the famous.
- 22:32Speaker 4: 85 Chicago Bears. Yeah, and that's how he'll be immortalized.
- 22:35Speaker 2: You know, it's crazy. We've lost Hulk Hogan. We've lost
- 22:37Speaker 2: Mike Dick. Big personalities.
- 22:40Speaker 4: And, you know, Dick had a couple of good years
- 22:42Speaker 4: when they won that championship in 85 against Patriots.
- 22:45Speaker 2: The next year, you're like, how could they not win another? Yeah.
- 22:49Speaker 4: And it just shows you how quick everything burns in
- 22:51Speaker 4: the NFL. But, man, he got a lot of equity
- 22:53Speaker 4: out of that. You remember the Saints, they gave him
- 22:56Speaker 4: that entire draft. Obviously, he takes Ricky Williams and gives
- 22:58Speaker 4: up all the picks. I mean, still, outside of Michael Jordan,
- 23:03Speaker 4: I don't know a bigger personality in Chicago.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I would have to say, I mean, this is
- 23:09Speaker 1: a July discussion, but the Chicago sports, Mount Rushmore, he's
- 23:12Speaker 1: got to be on it, right?
- 23:13Speaker 2: I think he is. Oh, it's Jordan. Ditka's on there.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Ryan Sandberg. Sandberg was very popular. I wonder.
- 23:22Speaker 1: I wonder if broadcaster Harry Carey at one point probably
- 23:25Speaker 1: made it on there. Probably not now because it's been
- 23:27Speaker 1: so long. But we would agree Ditka's on there. Yeah,
- 23:29Speaker 1: Ditka and MJ and then the other two is going
- 23:32Speaker 1: to be up for debate.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Jamie Roenick, I mean, you know, randomly, it's such a
- 23:36Speaker 2: hockey town. But I agree. I think Harry Carey would
- 23:39Speaker 2: be there. I think Ditka would be there. I mean, sweetness.
- 23:41Speaker 2: And obviously George. Sweetness is on there. Yeah. Murakami for
- 23:45Speaker 2: the White Sox. Is that I am Japanese? Is that
- 23:48Speaker 2: who that is? I am Japanese. Yeah.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Forrester would probably know better about the Chicago Blackhawks and
- 23:54Speaker 1: some of the fan base there.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Scott, are we leaving anybody off there?
- 23:57Speaker 5: Frank definitely deserves some love there.
- 24:02Speaker 4: I'll tell you, Dick, though, to get to 86 with
- 24:05Speaker 4: the cigars, like every time I saw the guy, he
- 24:07Speaker 4: had a cigar.
- 24:07Speaker 2: In his mouth.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Yeah, such a character, such a character. 1985 is a
- 24:09Speaker 1: long time ago, and he was a younger guy. NFL
- 24:15Speaker 1: coach back then, but that's 1985. We still reference that
- 24:18Speaker 1: team today. I mean, that shows you how dominant that
- 24:21Speaker 1: defense was and the characters on that team with Sweetness
- 24:24Speaker 1: and Jim McMahon and the fridge, Refrigerator Perry.
- 24:27Speaker 2: We still reference that team today. You know, I was in,
- 24:29Speaker 2: we'll see this all day today.
- 24:31Speaker 4: I was at a wedding a couple of weeks ago
- 24:32Speaker 4: and all these young'uns They've got the mustache, all the guys.
- 24:36Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 24:36Speaker 2: I still think the mustache is an awful, awful look.
- 24:39Speaker 4: But Ditka was one of the guys, along with Tom
- 24:41Speaker 4: Selleck and Burt Reynolds that could pull the mustache off.
- 24:44Speaker 2: It looked good on Ditka. It did. He could wear it. Well,
- 24:47Speaker 2: because that's the only way I ever saw Ditka. Yeah.
- 24:50Speaker 4: I didn't really see him without it. But you'll see
- 24:52Speaker 4: these kids for the first time today.
- 24:54Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Good point.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Yeah, you'll see them here at Ennis when the doors open.
- 24:56Speaker 1: But it's fairly rare to see such a public feud.
- 25:01Speaker 1: But that feud with he and Buddy Ryan was not fake.
- 25:03Speaker 2: No. I mean, that was a real feud. That's what
- 25:06Speaker 2: tore that team apart. Yeah. That was just pure ego.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:09Speaker 2: I mean, it was.
- 25:10Speaker 1: There wasn't enough room in that coaching staff for Ditka's
- 25:13Speaker 1: ego and Buddy Ryan's ego. And Buddy left and went
- 25:16Speaker 1: to the Philadelphia Eagles. And that was a legitimate hatred
- 25:20Speaker 1: rivalry right there. Ditka driving the bus in heaven today
- 25:23Speaker 1: as Mike Ditka has passed away. When we come back,
- 25:27Speaker 1: it's October 9th. We'll give you the October 10th headlines,
- 25:29Speaker 1: October 11th headlines way too early. It's our next segment
- 25:32Speaker 1: right here from Innisfree in Tuscaloosa. It's the next round
- 25:35Speaker 1: presented by Hard Rock Bet on Sporting State.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Back with you.
- 25:40Speaker 1: From historic Innisfree. Yes, we're outside during the show. I've
- 25:44Speaker 1: done so many hits, including Atlanta Radio this morning. They're like,
- 25:48Speaker 1: boots on the ground, Jim Dunaway's in Tuscaloosa. What's the
- 25:51Speaker 1: weather like over there with that hurricane bearing down? I
- 25:53Speaker 1: was like, well, actually sunny right now, no rain.
- 25:56Speaker 4: Berman from Vegas gave us a Jim Cantoria reference. Did
- 26:00Speaker 4: we have our weather boots on?
- 26:01Speaker 1: We're outside on the patio here at Innisfree, and we're
- 26:05Speaker 1: expecting to be rain-free until the end of the show
- 26:08Speaker 1: at 1 o'clock. Rain's going to move in, but the
- 26:10Speaker 1: weather for the game, if everything stays on path, is
- 26:13Speaker 1: going to be good. Stay safe, especially down in the
- 26:16Speaker 1: Gulf if you're watching this right now, but if you're
- 26:19Speaker 1: driving to the game, be safe.
- 26:21Speaker 2: A lot of water, a lot of.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Wind, but by the time you get to the game,
- 26:24Speaker 1: the wind's supposed to be normal, the rain's supposed to
- 26:26Speaker 1: be down, but we're thinking about everybody on the Gulf Coast,
- 26:29Speaker 1: but All good signs as far as the football game
- 26:32Speaker 1: is concerned, Georgia and Alabama, when it comes to the
- 26:35Speaker 1: weather tomorrow night. If you are coming to game day,
- 26:38Speaker 1: Coleman Coliseum for game day, normal start time at 8 o'clock.
- 26:41Speaker 1: And also, I'll always warn you, Alabama sent out another
- 26:45Speaker 1: release last night. As you often see in some of
- 26:48Speaker 1: these big games, they've already had a couple of incidents
- 26:50Speaker 1: of counterfeit tickets. So be careful where you're buying.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Your tickets from.
- 26:55Speaker 1: We always use our trusted friends. at ATICS, and they
- 27:00Speaker 1: make sure their tickets are real before they sell them
- 27:02Speaker 1: to them. But Alabama always encourages you to buy them
- 27:05Speaker 1: from their provider. That's island-worthy, by the way, counterfeit tickets.
- 27:11Speaker 1: And unfortunately, as Alabama points out, if you've bought a
- 27:13Speaker 1: bad ticket, you don't get in, they don't give you
- 27:16Speaker 1: money back.
- 27:16Speaker 2: That's just you made a bad choice. Nothing they can
- 27:18Speaker 2: do about it. Have you guys ever bought a counterfeit?
- 27:20Speaker 2: I did one time.
- 27:21Speaker 1: I have not, but I saw a guy chase a
- 27:24Speaker 1: ticket scalper through an Atlanta stadium hotel lobby.
- 27:28Speaker 2: It was Auburn. It was either the Auburn, Missouri, Auburn,
- 27:30Speaker 2: South Carolina.
- 27:31Speaker 1: SEC championship game, 10 or 13. And the guy had
- 27:35Speaker 1: obviously sold him bad tickets, chased him through the lobby.
- 27:38Speaker 1: And it was almost like a scene from a movie.
- 27:40Speaker 1: He grabs him, like jumps and grabs his shirt. And
- 27:43Speaker 1: the guy pulls loose as he's going through the door
- 27:45Speaker 1: and the door closes on the other guy.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Wow. Like a cartoon. Yeah, it was like a scene
- 27:49Speaker 2: in a movie.
- 27:49Speaker 4: My time was, it was Halloween of 1999. Rams were
- 27:53Speaker 4: 4-0 playing in Tennessee against Titan, Steve McNair and those guys.
- 27:56Speaker 4: got down 21-0, ended up losing 31-28. But I guess
- 28:00Speaker 4: the problem was they let me in and all of
- 28:02Speaker 4: these other people.
- 28:03Speaker 2: There was like 15 for the same seat. Oh, my God.
- 28:06Speaker 4: But I give Tennessee and the Titans a lot of
- 28:08Speaker 4: credit because they re-sat us and they put me– I
- 28:11Speaker 4: got such an upgrade. I got in one of the
- 28:13Speaker 4: handicap fold-out chairs down.
- 28:16Speaker 2: On the 35. Wow. Ended up being a great team.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Worked out well for you.
- 28:19Speaker 4: But that was really, really nice. I guess because we
- 28:21Speaker 4: had gotten in the stadium, they didn't want to throw
- 28:22Speaker 4: us out. If we had gotten turned down at the gate,
- 28:24Speaker 4: we probably would have. And they may not know who
- 28:26Speaker 4: had the real ticket at that point. You know, with
- 28:28Speaker 4: 15 of you, they're like, I don't even know who's
- 28:29Speaker 4: supposed to be.
- 28:30Speaker 2: It's a shock you can still counterfeit tickets with everything.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Everything will lie.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Somehow, some way.
- 28:35Speaker 1: There are no paper tickets, right? Nothing is a paper
- 28:37Speaker 1: ticket anymore. I can't answer that question.
- 28:39Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't think so.
- 28:41Speaker 1: But I don't know. All right, tell us about Perfect
- 28:44Speaker 1: 10 Mortgage, and we'll get to our headline. Yeah, Perfect 10,
- 28:47Speaker 1: the name says it all. Not the first time the
- 28:49Speaker 1: phrase Perfect 10 has been referenced here in Tuscaloosa today.
- 28:51Speaker 1: You can apply in about 10 minutes, close in 10 days.
- 28:54Speaker 1: That is the whole idea, a mortgage that is simple, fast,
- 28:56Speaker 1: and fair. 10 minutes start to finish right from your phone.

- 29:12Speaker 1: house you want now. You're buying new construction? They've got
- 29:15Speaker 1: a builder program, builder-funded rate buy-downs that can get you
- 29:18Speaker 1: the rate the bank simply cannot print. Straight talk on
- 29:21Speaker 1: what you qualify for that is built for real people,
- 29:23Speaker 1: not meaningless paperwork. Perfect10Mortgage. com. That is Perfect10Mortgage. com. or call 855-789-1010, 855-789-1010,
- 29:31Speaker 1: or perfect10mortgage. com.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Perfect 10 Mortgage.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Is a DBA of network funding LP, NMLS 2297, equal
- 29:43Speaker 1: housing lender. All borrowers must qualify. This advertisement is not
- 29:47Speaker 1: a promise to make alone. Perfect10mortgage. com or 855-789-1010. By the way,
- 29:53Speaker 1: Alabama basketball, I'm going to bring it up right here
- 29:55Speaker 1: because I'm about to have a Red Panda reference in
- 29:58Speaker 1: my headline. Alabama basketball, which we see Red Panda all
- 30:01Speaker 1: the time during basketball season, played an exhibition game last night.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Beat Furman here.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Everyone was raving about the paint job, the new scoreboard
- 30:09Speaker 1: and the paint job inside Coleman Coliseum, how the place
- 30:12Speaker 1: looks a little better and the scoreboard's magical inside there.
- 30:15Speaker 1: And the basketball team played really well last night, too.
- 30:18Speaker 1: So next week, they're all in Birmingham for balling at Boutwell.
- 30:23Speaker 1: On Wednesday and Thursday, you get Auburn and Florida State,
- 30:25Speaker 1: Alabama and Ole Miss. You can get tickets at Ballin'
- 30:27Speaker 1: and Batwell for that next week. So we look forward
- 30:30Speaker 1: to that. So I'll go first. Red Panda's a halftime
- 30:33Speaker 1: show basketball where she tosses and catches bowls, right?
- 30:37Speaker 2: That's right.
- 30:38Speaker 1: My first headline from the Gridiron Gazette, Red Panda says
- 30:42Speaker 1: drop bowls.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Just the opposite of what she tries to do at halftime.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Tampa Bay fans are barking mad after head coach Todd
- 30:49Speaker 1: Bowles failed to kick a field goal. For a 17-point lead,
- 30:53Speaker 1: Red Panda says, drop bowls.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I see the flavor.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and of course, AI, I sent a picture, but
- 30:58Speaker 1: AI actually gave me a Red Panda in buccaneer gear.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Georgia's Dairy Queen's got a special. They now offer Gunner
- 31:06Speaker 1: Stockton Sundays. Two scoops of vanilla, no toppings. He's such a,
- 31:10Speaker 1: just a by-the-book, plain guy, a plain quarterback. D.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Moose Stetson Bennett.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Yeah, DQ manager says, no sprinkles, no sauce, no distractions,
- 31:19Speaker 1: just like Gunner.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Do you think he's T.Q. Stetson or T. Moose Stetson Bennett?
- 31:25Speaker 1: He is.
- 31:26Speaker 2: He's T. Moose Stetson Bennett.
- 31:27Speaker 1: And then off the documentary last night, I learned that,
- 31:31Speaker 1: as you see the other headline, I learned that Saban
- 31:33Speaker 1: used wizardry to start his legacy. The sports psychologist guy
- 31:38Speaker 1: looked exactly like a wizard.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Did he really?
- 31:40Speaker 1: And Saban said all the Michigan State guys just called him, hey,
- 31:42Speaker 1: is wizard.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Man coming to talk to us today? Wizard man. Wizard man.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:46Speaker 2: And, of course, it put a different picture in there,
- 31:49Speaker 2: but I'll show you. Oh, there it is. That's what
- 31:51Speaker 2: he looked like.
- 31:52Speaker 1: That's the sports psychologist. That's the guy that changed Saban's career.
- 31:58Speaker 1: He's got a lot of Ted Kaczynski in him. A
- 32:00Speaker 1: lot of Unabomber. So the rest of college football. That's
- 32:03Speaker 1: not the way he looks right now.
- 32:03Speaker 2: He looks older.
- 32:04Speaker 4: That's the way he looked in the 1990s when he
- 32:07Speaker 4: told Saban. If he looked like that in the 90s,
- 32:09Speaker 4: I'd say he's a skeleton.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Somebody drug this guy in Saban's office. He's like, who
- 32:13Speaker 2: is this?
- 32:15Speaker 1: And this guy apparently had tried to talk to other
- 32:17Speaker 1: coaches at Michigan State in his career.
- 32:20Speaker 2: And none of them listened. And he thought Saban was
- 32:22Speaker 2: the same way.
- 32:23Speaker 1: He said he didn't say a single word the first
- 32:24Speaker 1: time I met him when I was telling him about
- 32:25Speaker 1: what I do and that he left. And then two
- 32:28Speaker 1: days later, before the Ohio State game, he called him
- 32:30Speaker 1: back to his office. They had an hour long conversation.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Fascinating. Yeah. Crazy. All right, Brownie, what you got, man?
- 32:36Speaker 2: All right.
- 32:37Speaker 1: So I'm going to go to the Red River rivalry.
- 32:40Speaker 1: After Red River loss, Oklahoma quarterback loses all his NIL
- 32:44Speaker 1: money at a football toss game. Very unfortunate for John
- 32:48Speaker 1: Mateer losing all his money at a football toss. I
- 32:50Speaker 1: wouldn't trust him at the football toss. You're probably not
- 32:53Speaker 1: going to leave with a big stuffed animal. He starts
- 32:55Speaker 1: hitting the stuffed animals, missing the holes.
- 32:57Speaker 2: That's right. He lost all his NIL money there at
- 32:59Speaker 2: the football toss. The ball goes backwards sometimes, too.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Page two, President Trump announces the next few stops in
- 33:05Speaker 1: his Don't Tread on Saturday tour.
- 33:09Speaker 2: That's your best one of the year. Thank you.
- 33:11Speaker 1: President Trump is stealing Josh Pate's gig. He's got to
- 33:14Speaker 1: go to a college football game each week, it appears.
- 33:16Speaker 2: I mean, is he at Notre Dame BYU next week?
- 33:18Speaker 2: I would be. That's a great game.
- 33:20Speaker 1: And then on page three, future October hurricanes to be
- 33:23Speaker 1: named after Ronald Acuna so they won't hit anything.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Oh, that would be a great plan. Yes, it's Hurricane Acuna.
- 33:28Speaker 2: We're safe, everybody. Well done.
- 33:32Speaker 1: Thank you. That's two-thirds good. Yeah, I might have repurposed
- 33:37Speaker 1: one of those, but two of them were mine. Really good,
- 33:39Speaker 1: really good.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 33:41Speaker 4: All right, LT, what do you have for us this week, man?
- 33:43Speaker 4: We are also going to go to Dallas, the Sooner Slate.
- 33:47Speaker 4: Losing Texas. Arch and Sark's offense has horns fans nauseous
- 33:52Speaker 4: at state fairs.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Oklahoma pulls off the upset.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Do you really feel like that could happen in the game?
- 33:59Speaker 2: I do, yeah. I've listened to him all week. He's
- 34:02Speaker 2: got a gut. And I kind of do, too, to
- 34:03Speaker 2: be honest. Subset alert, I need one. You know what's crazy?
- 34:07Speaker 4: The last nine quarters, this Texas defense is allowing 2.6
- 34:11Speaker 4: points per game on average in 60 minutes.
- 34:14Speaker 2: And now they're going against this Oklahoma offense.
- 34:16Speaker 4: Coming off a bye, crazy things happening in this rivalry. Tyler,
- 34:20Speaker 4: your side headlines are really, really good. I'll let you
- 34:23Speaker 4: take them.
- 34:23Speaker 8: All right, so on page 3A, we got Dr. Andrews
- 34:27Speaker 8: coming out of retirement to.
- 34:28Speaker 2: Perform the first tightrope surgery on a bird.
- 34:32Speaker 8: Hopefully, Aurea can make a full recovery and get back
- 34:35Speaker 8: out on the field.
- 34:37Speaker 1: I don't know if we ever brought it up in
- 34:39Speaker 1: the air, but Auburn's War Eagle 8 is out for
- 34:42Speaker 1: the season, it looks like, with a sprained talon.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Is that what it's called? It said a foot. It
- 34:47Speaker 2: just said foot injury. I thought that was weird. They
- 34:51Speaker 2: didn't specify it.
- 34:52Speaker 8: And then over on page six, you got a Birmingham
- 34:55Speaker 8: podcast host banned from Chicago after a landmine incident.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Yeah, you're not going to go to Chicago anymore, Jimmy. Wow,
- 35:02Speaker 2: it's one of my three favorite cities. Oh, you're banned
- 35:05Speaker 2: from there now. Is a podcast host? Yeah, podcast host.
- 35:08Speaker 2: We used to be disc jockeys when we were interested. Wait,
- 35:10Speaker 2: you're a DJ? Natalia, you're back there. Truth serum. Forrester's
- 35:15Speaker 2: not blaming me for last night's game, though, is he?
- 35:18Speaker 5: No, I blame the White Sox for that.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Okay, good. Okay.
- 35:22Speaker 1: Don't become that guy where you think it's my fault
- 35:24Speaker 1: that maybe I changed the momentum or something in the postseason.
- 35:28Speaker 8: I mean, they were up two games, and then you
- 35:32Speaker 8: put money on them, and now they're tied 2-2.
- 35:34Speaker 2: Yeah, that did happen. Tyler was right about that.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and there's another reason that you may find out
- 35:40Speaker 1: sometime next week, Forrester, why they may be on a skid.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Oh, no. Yeah, I'll tell you. Oh, no, is that
- 35:46Speaker 2: what you told me yesterday?
- 35:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Not as bad as it sounds, but yeah.
- 35:49Speaker 7: Well.
- 35:50Speaker 2: It was with good intention.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Well, I mean, they were up 2-0 at the time
- 35:53Speaker 1: you did it. It was up 2-0 when I did it, yeah.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Yeah. Sorry, Forrester. But maybe, maybe we get through the weekend.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Scottie, Cleveland can't beat you. No, nothing. I know what
- 36:05Speaker 1: he's referencing. You'll be okay with it. Not if they lose.
- 36:11Speaker 1: There's no way y'all are going to lose three straight
- 36:13Speaker 1: to Cleveland, though, right, Scott?
- 36:14Speaker 5: Have you watched any of the previous two games?
- 36:17Speaker 2: No. Actually, no.
- 36:18Speaker 1: That's why I'm asking this question. I have not watched
- 36:21Speaker 1: the first pitch of your series.
- 36:23Speaker 5: If everybody strikes out, yes, there's a way.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Well, I mean, yeah, that goes without saying, but that
- 36:28Speaker 1: can't happen twice. 19 strikeouts, right?
- 36:31Speaker 2: I do think the pressure is on the Guardians here.
- 36:34Speaker 5: I hope so. These last couple of days have been brutal.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Oh, I'm sure they have.
- 36:40Speaker 1: I'm with Dunaway. I think he might be better off
- 36:42Speaker 1: playing in Cleveland. Now, I say that as somebody who
- 36:44Speaker 1: has not watched a pitch of this series.
- 36:46Speaker 2: But it feels like something you would say in this situation, Scott.
- 36:50Speaker 2: And Bama's better in essence.
- 36:53Speaker 4: When I walked in this morning, I looked at Scott
- 36:55Speaker 4: and I was like, are you going to have Bama
- 36:57Speaker 4: and Georgia on the big or game five?
- 37:00Speaker 2: He looked at me like, eat shit. Yeah. Wasn't he
- 37:02Speaker 2: a fake loser? Yeah.
- 37:04Speaker 1: I mean, War Eagle 8's on the IR. Auburn's not playing.
- 37:08Speaker 1: The White Sox are struggling. Not the perfect weekend to
- 37:11Speaker 1: be at the force. Bama will have ATV. The White
- 37:14Speaker 1: Sox will have the volume.
- 37:16Speaker 2: I don't blame you on that.
- 37:18Speaker 1: Well, you should know that sports karma is real. So
- 37:24Speaker 1: if you're over there cheering for the dogs against Alabama,
- 37:27Speaker 1: there's probably going to be a little payback from the
- 37:29Speaker 1: guardian angel.
- 37:31Speaker 5: It'll just be on. There will be no cheering in
- 37:33Speaker 5: either direction.
- 37:34Speaker 2: I mean, it's both.
- 37:36Speaker 1: Yeah. How do you cheer in that game? You just
- 37:38Speaker 1: need you just need. Good vibes out there, Forrester, for
- 37:41Speaker 1: the White Sox.
- 37:41Speaker 2: That's our headlines. Way too early.
- 37:44Speaker 1: We'll see if any of those come true for the weekend.
- 37:46Speaker 1: And I can't believe we actually believe on the panel
- 37:50Speaker 1: here Oklahoma has a fighting chance against Texas. Well, I
- 37:53Speaker 1: think we're almost three across, so that's probably really bad
- 37:56Speaker 1: news for Oklahoma there. Because I've felt it for a
- 37:59Speaker 1: couple of weeks. I can sense he feels it. it's
- 38:01Speaker 1: your upset alert.
- 38:02Speaker 2: So do you send cover or do you think Oklahoma
- 38:05Speaker 2: could win this game out? Right. They could win the
- 38:07Speaker 2: game out right now. I think it will go one
- 38:08Speaker 2: of two ways.
- 38:09Speaker 4: I think you'll know early on, like Oklahoma three and
- 38:12Speaker 4: out three and out Texas is up 14, nothing going
- 38:14Speaker 4: to turn the TV off. But if this is a
- 38:16Speaker 4: back and forth and you get a flukish, you get
- 38:18Speaker 4: one of these double reverses and then you get a
- 38:21Speaker 4: block pun or you get a big six for March.
- 38:24Speaker 2: That's when you know you're in it. And I think
- 38:26Speaker 2: it goes the full 60.
- 38:27Speaker 4: And I think it comes down to a final possession. I, I,
- 38:30Speaker 4: I mean, Oklahoma's offense has been horrible, but their defense
- 38:33Speaker 4: has been elite.
- 38:34Speaker 1: You're going to need, you're absolutely going to need a
- 38:38Speaker 1: defensive touchdown, I think, for Oklahoma, which is possible. I mean, they've... Oh, yeah,
- 38:42Speaker 1: especially with the way Orch is playing. I think you
- 38:44Speaker 1: then also might need, and boy, I am painting a
- 38:46Speaker 1: difficult picture, also might need another turnover that leads to
- 38:49Speaker 1: at least a field goal out of the booty short
- 38:52Speaker 1: wearing kicker. And then maybe either a punt return by
- 38:56Speaker 1: Sertania for a touchdown or one that is deep enough
- 38:58Speaker 1: that it produces points.
- 39:00Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 39:00Speaker 2: I've got a feeling. I know that's a, that's a
- 39:01Speaker 2: lot to paint.
- 39:02Speaker 4: I guess the, the short, short Tate Sandell, I think
- 39:04Speaker 4: he's going to walk this thing off. I've just got
- 39:06Speaker 4: a feeling almost division on this thing, but again, it
- 39:09Speaker 4: could go the other way quickly. What I just said
- 39:11Speaker 4: is not real crazy. I mean, a defensive touchdown and
- 39:14Speaker 4: another turnover that leads to a field goal. And then
- 39:16Speaker 4: maybe a kick return that leads to a field goal.
- 39:18Speaker 4: So there's, You know, there's 13 points right there. And
- 39:20Speaker 4: you're going to have to win it 13-10.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, Georgia leads the country in points scored,
- 39:25Speaker 1: but some of those were given to them by no
- 39:28Speaker 1: doubt here i mean if you just stop giving them
- 39:30Speaker 1: six points the defensive give up you give the other
- 39:33Speaker 1: defense six points and then georgia had a couple of
- 39:36Speaker 1: short fields in that game because of material turnover oh
- 39:39Speaker 1: i think.
- 39:39Speaker 4: If they would have punted every possession on first down
- 39:42Speaker 4: i think georgia probably wins 21 nothing.
- 39:44Speaker 1: That's right so but If you just eliminate that in
- 39:48Speaker 1: the game where you don't give them any short field,
- 39:50Speaker 1: don't give them any points, then that makes it a
- 39:52Speaker 1: lot harder to arch in them.
- 39:53Speaker 2: I think that's the way.
- 39:54Speaker 1: It doesn't have to be as extreme as Brown, you know,
- 39:56Speaker 1: bouncing in bank shots off the scoreboard.
- 39:58Speaker 2: I did because they've dropped the playbook before.
- 40:02Speaker 4: I have heard that Venable, somebody found this, that he
- 40:04Speaker 4: is going to be putting on third down a lot.
- 40:07Speaker 2: There are times it would have been better.
- 40:08Speaker 1: Yeah, or somehow get stick them on Mateer's hands. That's
- 40:12Speaker 1: the 230 game tomorrow, Texas and Oklahoma. leading into Georgia
- 40:16Speaker 1: and Alabama on a true ABC, SEC on ABC all
- 40:20Speaker 1: day this.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Week, right? That is correct, all day this week. All right.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Game day at Coleman tomorrow.
- 40:27Speaker 1: All the fun here at Innisfree the rest of the afternoon.
- 40:29Speaker 1: We've got one more segment here on Sporting State. We'll
- 40:31Speaker 1: do a wrap-up when we come back on some games
- 40:34Speaker 1: we haven't talked about. Oklahoma over Texas may not be
- 40:37Speaker 1: the biggest upset in some people's eyes. Does South Carolina
- 40:40Speaker 1: and does Vandy have a shot this weekend? And maybe
- 40:44Speaker 1: even Arkansas. We'll talk about those three games when we
- 40:47Speaker 1: come back on Sporting State.
- 40:49Speaker 2: We're back at Dennis Free. Doors are opening here as
- 40:51Speaker 2: you get ready to get ready.
- 40:54Speaker 1: You get ready to get ready for the big game
- 40:56Speaker 1: happening tomorrow night with Georgia in town to take on Alabama,
- 41:00Speaker 1: number two in the country versus number six, these rivals.
- 41:03Speaker 1: You guys agree with me, right, that once Kirby got
- 41:07Speaker 1: to Georgia and end of Saban era into now, what
- 41:12Speaker 1: Georgia fans after 21 and 22 thought that Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia,
- 41:18Speaker 1: probably the only fan bases that can relate to each other,
- 41:21Speaker 1: that no matter what happens in the regular season or
- 41:24Speaker 1: into the playoffs, that if you don't win a national championship,
- 41:27Speaker 1: there's some emptiness left out there. There's no other fan base,
- 41:32Speaker 1: in my opinion, other than those three that sort of,
- 41:37Speaker 1: live that every year nowadays, Georgia, Alabama, and Ohio state.
- 41:41Speaker 2: Well, because they've done it.
- 41:42Speaker 4: I agree there, but I do think two teams right
- 41:45Speaker 4: now in Texas and Oregon believe it's national championship or
- 41:49Speaker 4: bust with everything that was coming back this year.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Yeah. There's that one.
- 41:52Speaker 1: And maybe for this one year, but it's like year
- 41:54Speaker 1: in year out right now for Ohio state, Georgia, and
- 41:57Speaker 1: still Alabama. And I think that has, that's changed the
- 42:01Speaker 1: relationship in my opinion, between Alabama and Georgia fans. It's
- 42:04Speaker 1: almost like you're able to, um, We'll be sitting in
- 42:07Speaker 1: the stadium tomorrow night, Alabama and Georgia. And it's almost
- 42:10Speaker 1: you have a new respect for each other because we're
- 42:12Speaker 1: sort of living through the same type of thing right
- 42:15Speaker 1: now where, man, no matter if we make the playoffs,
- 42:17Speaker 1: even if we win a game in the playoffs, we
- 42:19Speaker 1: got to win them all or it's just going to
- 42:20Speaker 1: be empty. But also they don't meet annually. So when
- 42:24Speaker 1: they do meet, it feels important. I mean, give me
- 42:26Speaker 1: the last time Alabama and Georgia have played that you didn't.
- 42:29Speaker 1: feel like it was an important game to the landscape
- 42:32Speaker 1: of college football.
- 42:32Speaker 4: I can't even remember the last time, you know, but
- 42:35Speaker 4: also another factor in this, you go back to like 2008,
- 42:37Speaker 4: you guys were at the blackout in Athens. I was,
- 42:40Speaker 4: I was over there for that. When you walked out
- 42:43Speaker 4: of the stadium, I mean, Georgia fans felt like their
- 42:44Speaker 4: season was over.
- 42:45Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 42:46Speaker 4: And I think either one of these fan bases that
- 42:48Speaker 4: walks out, unless you have some kind of monumental injury,
- 42:51Speaker 4: I think both are gonna be like, damn, that sucks.
- 42:52Speaker 2: We lost, but we'll see you again.
- 42:54Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 42:54Speaker 2: We're probably going to play maybe twice more. Yeah.
- 42:57Speaker 1: And I, and, I made this point all week long
- 43:00Speaker 1: on any platform I was on. Alabama fans would love
- 43:03Speaker 1: to see a 2017 Alabama-Georgia game. Georgia fans would love
- 43:06Speaker 1: to see a 2021 Alabama-Georgia game. I want to see
- 43:09Speaker 1: the 2012 Alabama-Georgia game where both teams play at their
- 43:13Speaker 1: peak and you just have a great football game. And
- 43:16Speaker 1: if you get something like that, LT, I do believe
- 43:18Speaker 1: both walk out saying, all right, we're two of the
- 43:20Speaker 1: best teams in the country and we're going to see
- 43:22Speaker 1: each other again somewhere, hopefully down the road in the
- 43:26Speaker 1: national championship game.
- 43:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I think the only way you don't have that
- 43:29Speaker 4: feeling coming out of this game is if you get
- 43:32Speaker 4: the 2025 SEC championship game kind of outcome on.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Either side on either side you're exactly right all right
- 43:39Speaker 1: tell us about XXXY and we'll talk about these other
- 43:41Speaker 1: three SEC games we did not get into with Furman
- 43:44Speaker 1: yeah Jennifer Say was a former national champion gymnast former
- 43:47Speaker 1: Levi's brand president she walked away from that corporate job
- 43:50Speaker 1: rather than say something she simply did not believe in
- 43:53Speaker 1: When she walked away, she started XXXY Athletics instead. Here
- 43:57Speaker 1: is their mission in their own words. Empower female athletes
- 44:00Speaker 1: and take a stand for fair competition. They call it
- 44:03Speaker 1: the T that launched a movement. For that reason, you
- 44:06Speaker 1: can still get it now. Real athletic apparel, not just
- 44:09Speaker 1: a slogan on a shirt. Performance tops, tanks, sports bras, leggings.
- 44:13Speaker 2: They've got shorts.

- 44:17Speaker 1: men's and women's clothing. And it's clothing that is worn
- 44:20Speaker 1: by athletes who've actually put something on the line. New

- 44:34Speaker 2: All right.
- 44:35Speaker 1: Final 10 minutes of the show brought to you by
- 44:37Speaker 1: our friends at Hard Rock Bet here on Sporting State.
- 44:40Speaker 1: We've talked about Oklahoma, Texas, maybe Oklahoma poised for an upset.
- 44:44Speaker 1: South Carolina is down in Florida to take on the
- 44:48Speaker 1: Gators this weekend. The Gators coming off of horrible offensive performance.
- 44:53Speaker 1: Any pressure on Buster Faulkner, the wonder kid? I know
- 44:57Speaker 1: he's not a kid, but the inventor of offensive football.
- 45:00Speaker 1: A little pressure on him this weekend?
- 45:02Speaker 4: Well, I mean, you look at Jaden Baugh, 13 carries,
- 45:04Speaker 4: 12 yards last week. He's got to get it going.
- 45:07Speaker 4: John Summerall, more concerned about the defense. Gave up 560
- 45:11Speaker 4: yards to that Missouri offense last week.
- 45:13Speaker 2: So I think they fixed the defense.
- 45:14Speaker 4: I think the Buster Faulkner offense is going to be fine,
- 45:16Speaker 4: especially against the South Carolina defense.
- 45:18Speaker 2: It's only got Two takeaways all year.
- 45:21Speaker 1: I think you saw on Alabama's offense, which is one
- 45:23Speaker 1: of the best in the country, no doubt, was able
- 45:24Speaker 1: to do against South Carolina's defense. They really had no
- 45:27Speaker 1: answer for Alabama's offense. So if you're Florida, you hope
- 45:29Speaker 1: that's the case. I think for South Carolina, you know,
- 45:32Speaker 1: if Dylan Stewart plays in this game, he was not
- 45:34Speaker 1: on the availability report again last night, if I'm not mistaken.
- 45:38Speaker 1: If he, in fact, plays in this game, you just
- 45:41Speaker 1: want to see if this message has gotten to him.
- 45:43Speaker 1: If the suspension has gotten to him and now he's
- 45:45Speaker 1: a factor in in this game for South Carolina. If
- 45:48Speaker 1: he is that, if you get a man possessed out
- 45:50Speaker 1: of Dylan Stewart, could be an interesting game here. I mean,
- 45:54Speaker 1: I could spell trouble for Florida's offense.
- 45:56Speaker 4: I mean, they've been competitive in most spots. They blow
- 45:58Speaker 4: these big leads. We talk about it, but they've lost
- 46:00Speaker 4: eight straight SEC games. They've lost 10 of their last
- 46:03Speaker 4: 11 in the SEC. Very interesting to see after blowing
- 46:05Speaker 4: another lead how they will come out and how they'll fight.
- 46:09Speaker 2: That was a massive military plane that just flew a trip.
- 46:11Speaker 2: What is that? Is that C-130? Yeah, a C-130 that
- 46:15Speaker 2: just flew over us. It wasn't Air Force One, though? No,
- 46:18Speaker 2: but it may have the– they're bringing the Beast, I think.
- 46:21Speaker 1: Yeah. Don't you think that's what it is, though? I
- 46:27Speaker 1: think if I– The car is the advanced team. Yeah,
- 46:31Speaker 1: the advanced team and the C-130. I think that's probably
- 46:34Speaker 1: what that is. That was a massive plane in it.
- 46:37Speaker 1: Blew very low over here. Sorry about that. We got
- 46:41Speaker 1: the tower buzzed. Cut number nine, Tyler, if you will.
- 46:45Speaker 1: John Summerall coming off the loss last week. They were
- 46:48Speaker 1: on a Cinderella roll and now they come back home
- 46:52Speaker 1: for a home game after a loss. Here's John Summerall
- 46:55Speaker 1: on just his personal feeling with what's going on in
- 46:58Speaker 1: the SEC this week.
- 47:01Speaker 2: I don't like losing.
- 47:02Speaker 6: I actually hate losing more than I like winning. There's
- 47:05Speaker 6: a lot to learn from every scenario you go through.
- 47:09Speaker 6: And when you lose a game, I think it forces
- 47:12Speaker 6: everybody to take more direct accountability to what we're doing. And,
- 47:19Speaker 6: you know, I think when you win a game, as
- 47:22Speaker 6: a coach, I see all our flaws still. But everybody externally,
- 47:27Speaker 6: you know, it's a party.
- 47:28Speaker 2: We're 4-0, woo-hoo.
- 47:30Speaker 6: And then I'm like being the bad guy in the
- 47:33Speaker 6: building every day. Right now our guys, they're hurt. Like
- 47:37Speaker 6: they're crushed.
- 47:38Speaker 2: It's not, you know, hey, it's okay to lose. It's not.
- 47:42Speaker 2: It's not okay to lose ever.
- 47:44Speaker 6: But it's also helping them understand, hey, where do we
- 47:46Speaker 6: have to grow?
- 47:47Speaker 2: Let's keep growing. Let's put our head down and go
- 47:49Speaker 2: back to work. Pick yourself up.
- 47:51Speaker 6: Nobody's going to feel sorry for you in this league.
- 47:53Speaker 2: Like week in, week out in this league, we're going
- 47:55Speaker 2: to be challenged.
- 47:56Speaker 6: And so we have to recalibrate, readjust, and get going
- 48:01Speaker 6: and move forward.
- 48:03Speaker 1: Yeah, this was a big test for them to bounce
- 48:06Speaker 1: back against a team they should handle. in South Carolina
- 48:09Speaker 1: this week. Ole Miss is at Vandy. We haven't seen
- 48:11Speaker 1: Ole Miss since they lost at Florida because of the
- 48:13Speaker 1: bye week. Trinidad had that thigh injury. He should be
- 48:17Speaker 1: good to go. We expect Kiwan Lacy back in this one.
- 48:20Speaker 1: Jared Curtis is going to play for Vandy.
- 48:23Speaker 2: Is there a.
- 48:24Speaker 1: Little pressure on Pete Golding to deliver for Ole Miss
- 48:27Speaker 1: this weekend? Is there a possible upset in Nashville?
- 48:29Speaker 4: Well, we've got to learn something about this Ole Miss defense.
- 48:32Speaker 4: It was one of my five disappointments when we did
- 48:34Speaker 4: this last week early on in the college football season.
- 48:36Speaker 4: They're giving up almost 31 points per game. That is
- 48:39Speaker 4: dead last in the SEC. If you can't get right
- 48:42Speaker 4: against this Vanderbilt offense with a true freshman quarterback coming
- 48:45Speaker 4: off an injury and Jared Curtis, something is really wrong.
- 48:48Speaker 4: And for Vanderbilt on the other side, Brown, Clark Lee,
- 48:51Speaker 4: you know, they've been winning games, and now they've lost
- 48:53Speaker 4: back-to-back games. Last week against Georgia was one that really
- 48:57Speaker 4: got away from them. If you watch the NC State game,
- 48:59Speaker 4: they got dominated in that game, and a fluke they
- 49:02Speaker 4: were able to win that game.
- 49:03Speaker 2: If they lose here going away... then you start to say, man,
- 49:07Speaker 2: are we getting back to the old Vanderbilt?
- 49:08Speaker 1: I just, I'm curious how injured Jared Curtis really is.
- 49:11Speaker 1: I think you and I share the same suspicion. I
- 49:13Speaker 1: don't know if you had the same thought.
- 49:15Speaker 2: I thought it before.
- 49:15Speaker 1: When I heard he wasn't playing against Georgia, I caught it.
- 49:18Speaker 1: The minute I heard he was out against Georgia, I
- 49:19Speaker 1: was like. like is he really out against georgia or
- 49:22Speaker 1: is he just not playing against georgia was this a
- 49:24Speaker 1: predetermined i'm not gonna play against georgia i just i
- 49:26Speaker 1: i kind of feel like that so i think you're
- 49:28Speaker 1: probably for what it's worth gonna get a healthy jared
- 49:30Speaker 1: curtis in this game no chance tennessee loses at arkansas
- 49:34Speaker 1: I'm not saying no chance.
- 49:36Speaker 4: I mean, Arkansas has lost 13 straight games. They're only
- 49:39Speaker 4: averaging 11 points per game against power fours. This is
- 49:44Speaker 4: a bad, bad Arkansas team. I mean, they make Texas
- 49:46Speaker 4: A & M look like Texas A & M of
- 49:47Speaker 4: last year.
- 49:48Speaker 2: They did. 34-7, they got doubled up on yardage.
- 49:50Speaker 1: It's easily the worst team in the SEC, but you're
- 49:52Speaker 1: going there, Jim, and you're starting a quarterback making his
- 49:55Speaker 1: first start. And any time a team is in the
- 49:59Speaker 1: place Arkansas is in, the minute they get a little
- 50:02Speaker 1: bit of confidence– it can trigger something in them, right?
- 50:06Speaker 1: So if you're Tennessee and you keep turning it over,
- 50:08Speaker 1: then maybe you have to go back to Faison Brandon,
- 50:10Speaker 1: and now he comes in and presses. The path for
- 50:13Speaker 1: the loss is like two or three turnovers, like Arkansas
- 50:15Speaker 1: will be plus three or four in turnovers.
- 50:17Speaker 2: I don't think.
- 50:17Speaker 1: Tennessee will do that, but I can't say that there's
- 50:20Speaker 1: no chance they will. Cut number two, Tyler, and we'll
- 50:23Speaker 1: circle back now to Georgia and Alabama. We've touched on
- 50:25Speaker 1: every game in the SEC, but None bigger than number
- 50:28Speaker 1: two Georgia against number six Alabama. Josh Ford, even with
- 50:32Speaker 1: a broken arm, is going to try to give it
- 50:33Speaker 1: a go. And for Kane Womack and this defense, so
- 50:37Speaker 1: many young players continue to grow and step up. On offense,
- 50:41Speaker 1: Crowell's getting a bigger part. On defense, here's Kane Womack
- 50:44Speaker 1: talking about the growth of Xavier Griffin.
- 50:48Speaker 7: I think probably the thing that I've been most impressed
- 50:50Speaker 7: with right now is you know, okay, we're, we've expanded
- 50:54Speaker 7: his role as a pass rusher, but his inside linebacker,
- 50:57Speaker 7: his stack linebacker reps right now are really, really good.
- 51:01Speaker 7: And so he's, you know, we're able to add more
- 51:04Speaker 7: onto him and not at the expense of what he's
- 51:06Speaker 7: doing as an inside linebacker right now. And so, you know, I,
- 51:10Speaker 7: I can't think, I mean, you know, a freshman that
- 51:14Speaker 7: we've been able to put this much on him, I
- 51:16Speaker 7: think is a real credit to the work that he's
- 51:19Speaker 7: put in and, and the work that Chuck Morrell has
- 51:23Speaker 7: done with him, I think he's in a good place
- 51:25Speaker 7: right now, and he's playing really physical. When the ball
- 51:28Speaker 7: turns over and commits, he is just playing at a
- 51:34Speaker 7: fever pitch and playing really physical, and it's good to see.
- 51:39Speaker 2: He said physical a lot there. Final three minutes of
- 51:41Speaker 2: the show here.
- 51:42Speaker 1: Georgia will be the The most physical test Alabama's had
- 51:45Speaker 1: this year because of their style of play, correct?
- 51:47Speaker 2: The most physical test they'll have on their entire schedule.
- 51:49Speaker 2: All year. I would imagine.
- 51:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I think Kentucky's pretty physical. I mean, they like
- 51:53Speaker 4: to run the football. And I know it's offensive base
- 51:56Speaker 4: because it's Will Stein. But yes, by far the most
- 51:58Speaker 4: physical team they played. But on the other side, Alabama
- 52:01Speaker 4: didn't have, you know, the physicality of what was lacking
- 52:05Speaker 4: the first couple of years under Caleb Moore.
- 52:07Speaker 2: They've got it back. They do.
- 52:08Speaker 1: Xavier Griffin that he's talking about right there. Like, I
- 52:10Speaker 1: think Luke Metz is the breakout star of Alabama's defense.
- 52:14Speaker 1: But Griffin's not far behind. And by the end of
- 52:16Speaker 1: the season, you may look at him and say, OK,
- 52:18Speaker 1: of all the people I didn't know I was going
- 52:20Speaker 1: to love in Alabama's defense, this guy may be at.
- 52:23Speaker 2: The top the way he's playing. Is that sustainable, this defense?
- 52:26Speaker 1: I mean, the physicality of this defense, because it's looked
- 52:29Speaker 1: that way against Mississippi State and South Carolina and Kentucky.
- 52:32Speaker 2: Will it look that way against the Georges and Tennessee?
- 52:35Speaker 1: I think the most surprising thing to me or craziest
- 52:37Speaker 1: thing to me or whatever is the star of Alabama's
- 52:40Speaker 1: defense right now is their front seven. It's not the
- 52:42Speaker 1: back of the defense, which we thought Alabama is going
- 52:45Speaker 1: to be great at secondary. They'll get the rest right.
- 52:48Speaker 1: But they have started with the front seven, right? The
- 52:50Speaker 1: secondary has been the question.
- 52:51Speaker 4: I still think the secondary is going to get right.
- 52:54Speaker 4: It's just a big play here and there. But I
- 52:56Speaker 4: think they've already built the confidence. I think they think
- 52:58Speaker 4: that they're physical. And look, that's half the battle right now,
- 53:01Speaker 4: the mentality going into these games. But yeah, I think
- 53:03Speaker 4: they keep that edge unless, you know, Georgia was go
- 53:06Speaker 4: out and gas them for 250 on the ground.
- 53:08Speaker 1: We're at the great Innisfree historic place. If you're ever
- 53:11Speaker 1: in Tuscaloosa, swing by and enjoy the great drink, but
- 53:14Speaker 1: also food here at lunchtime. Hey, our boy finally woke up.
- 53:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 53:19Speaker 2: Good morning. Good morning, Luke. Hey. Yeah. Oh, wow. The
- 53:24Speaker 2: invisible girlfriend will be here. Oh, yeah. You stay here
- 53:28Speaker 2: last night.
- 53:29Speaker 1: Wow. So you just missed all of our text this morning.
- 53:31Speaker 1: Is that what you did? That's it for our show
- 53:34Speaker 1: at Innisfree. It should be a fun game. We've got

- 53:43Speaker 1: of your Saturday game day. Not everything's outside here at

- 53:50Speaker 1: that you'll get here as well.
- 53:52Speaker 2: But the second half.
