- 0:16Speaker 2: downtown St. John's around 10.30 yesterday morning, and the investigation
- 0:20Speaker 2: eventually led them to a second residence in Torbay. There,
- 0:23Speaker 2: a 28-year-old man was arrested for breaching an emergency protection order.
- 0:27Speaker 2: The accused was brought to provincial court where he was
- 0:29Speaker 2: charged with two counts of breaching the Family Violence Protection Act.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Metrobus says it is aware of an incident involving a
- 0:36Speaker 2: needle on board one of its buses. A post about
- 0:39Speaker 2: the situation has been making the rounds on social media.
- 0:42Speaker 2: It indicates that a man sat on and was stabbed
- 0:45Speaker 2: by a discarded needle on board one of the buses.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Metrobus says it is aware of the incident and they
- 0:50Speaker 2: are investigating. As such, no further details will be provided
- 0:53Speaker 2: at this time. There's some relief at the pumps this
- 0:56Speaker 2: morning in terms of gas. All other fuels, however, have increased.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Gas is down by 2.2 cents today. Diesel prices on
- 1:03Speaker 2: the island are up by 1.5 cents, and in Labrador,
- 1:06Speaker 2: they've gone up by over 3 cents. Furnace oil on
- 1:09Speaker 2: the island has increased by over a cent, and stove

- 1:23Speaker 2: shouldering work at the site. Drivers are being asked to
- 1:26Speaker 2: use caution while in the area. The closure will be
- 1:28Speaker 2: from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Today is the National
- 1:32Speaker 2: Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. VOCM's
- 1:37Speaker 2: Mahalia Artis reports.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Orange Shirt Day was first established in British Columbia in
- 1:42Speaker 1: 2013 as a way of honouring residential school survivors, their
- 1:45Speaker 1: families and those who never made it home. Today, people
- 1:48Speaker 1: are asked to wear orange as a reminder of the
- 1:51Speaker 1: lasting effects of the residential school system. In 2021, the
- 1:55Speaker 1: federal government established the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation,
- 1:59Speaker 1: a statutory holiday that coincides with Orange Shirt Day. The
- 2:03Speaker 1: decision was made even more profound due to the confirmation
- 2:06Speaker 1: of the unmarked graves of 215 children at the site
- 2:09Speaker 1: of a former residential school in Kamloops, B.C. earlier that year.
- 2:14Speaker 1: To recognize the day, First Light is hosting a rally
- 2:16Speaker 1: for reconciliation at the Pippi Park North Bank Lodge on
- 2:19Speaker 1: Nagel's Place. The event is happening at 2 o'clock this afternoon.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Mahalia Artis, VOCM, Local News Now.
- 2:27Speaker 2: And Newfoundlander Rebecca Abbott has been eliminated from MasterChef Canada.

- 2:37Speaker 2: The 38-year-old Gander native was eliminated during last night's episode
- 2:41Speaker 2: after struggling with a rice-themed mystery box challenge. Abbott was
- 2:45Speaker 2: emotional after receiving the news.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Today was not my best. I learned that every dish
- 2:49Speaker 3: you put forward is very important. Maybe I should have
- 2:52Speaker 3: been more expressive of who I am. I am most
- 2:55Speaker 3: proud of the fact that I actually applied and I
- 2:57Speaker 3: came here and I'm so proud to be the first
- 3:00Speaker 3: Newfoundlander to crack the top 12.
- 3:02Speaker 2: That's your news. I'm Richard Duggan.
