- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. Hey everybody, I'm Alex Garrett,
- 0:08Speaker 1: and obviously, yesterday we did not do a show because
- 0:12Speaker 1: I believed in going dark for nine to eleven in
- 0:14Speaker 1: honor of the fallen and those innocent lives lost during
- 0:20Speaker 1: the nine to eleven terrorist attacks. But on September twelfth,
- 0:23Speaker 1: we're back on and that means got some thoughts in
- 0:27Speaker 1: the sports world when it comes to the aftermath of
- 0:30Speaker 1: nine to eleven. We'll get to that Piazza home run
- 0:34Speaker 1: with lou Terminello in a second, but Ryan Clark, the
- 0:37Speaker 1: former nfler who was part of the Pivot podcast, had
- 0:41Speaker 1: this great question for Derek Jeter at the Fanatics Veest
- 0:45Speaker 1: twenty twenty four, and I just wanted you to hear
- 0:47Speaker 1: that before we get to Terminello's take.
- 0:50Speaker 2: What were some of those moments like for you and
- 0:53Speaker 2: how proud were you to be not only just an
- 0:56Speaker 2: American but in New Yorker at that time it was
- 0:58Speaker 2: the first time it's a professional athlete where I felt
- 1:02Speaker 2: as though it didn't matter what we were doing, It
- 1:06Speaker 2: doesn't make a difference, it doesn't count, you know. I mean,
- 1:09Speaker 2: there's bigger issues in the world as supposed to whether.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Or not the Yankees win or lose. And it wasn't until.
- 1:17Speaker 2: We had a chance to meet a lot of families
- 1:20Speaker 2: who had lost loved ones.
- 1:22Speaker 3: And they had told us how much joy.
- 1:25Speaker 2: We had brought their families and how they were pulling
- 1:29Speaker 2: for us to continue to play well. And so we
- 1:33Speaker 2: took that as a huge respon responsibility to not help
- 1:40Speaker 2: people forget, because you're never gonna forget, but at least
- 1:43Speaker 2: for three hours during the day or three hours at night,
- 1:46Speaker 2: just give them something to cheer for. And we took
- 1:50Speaker 2: that personally and it was probably as electric as energetic
- 1:57Speaker 2: as I've seen the old Yankees when we got to
- 2:00Speaker 2: the World Series, even though we lost. The three games
- 2:03Speaker 2: that we played in New York and the way the
- 2:05Speaker 2: city rallied around us. First time we went on the road,
- 2:09Speaker 2: people weren't booing us. That's the first, maybe the only
- 2:12Speaker 2: time I ever played in Boston. People weren't booing us
- 2:15Speaker 2: because they understood that we were represented.
- 2:17Speaker 3: We're all in this together. So it was it was
- 2:20Speaker 3: a time that I looked back on, and I don't
- 2:23Speaker 3: even know if I'm saying it right, but it's a
- 2:25Speaker 3: time I looked back on and I.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Appreciated, I really appreciated being a part of the Yankee
- 2:31Speaker 2: organization and representing.
- 2:33Speaker 3: The work, you know, And that's.
- 2:39Speaker 1: So you could tell that there was an immense responsibility,
- 2:43Speaker 1: a monumental task to keep the families of nine to
- 2:47Speaker 1: eleven victims uplifted, the spirit uplifted, and quite frankly, this
- 2:55Speaker 1: entire city uplifted. And I felt that the Piazza home run,
- 3:01Speaker 1: that the Yankees World Series run did just that. And
- 3:04Speaker 1: those three games at the stadium weren't remarkable, weren't they.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Luizer Manello, I know that you have some thoughts on
- 3:11Speaker 1: September eleventh and the aftermath.
- 3:13Speaker 4: What you just remember what happened twenty three years ago.
- 3:17Speaker 4: It's almost hard to believe. That's something I never thought
- 3:19Speaker 4: could happen in the United States. And you can't you
- 3:26Speaker 4: can't shake it, you know. They you know, they always
- 3:28Speaker 4: say never forget, never forget. We should never forget, and
- 3:31Speaker 4: that and the young people who weren't born yet, they
- 3:36Speaker 4: really need to know the heroic people not only in
- 3:42Speaker 4: New York but at the Pentagon in Pennsylvania that day.
- 3:48Speaker 4: Those are American heroes that we can't forget, and.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Truly icons and and and really heroes. And by the way,
- 4:00Speaker 1: know sports played a big role, and we talk about
- 4:03Speaker 1: a timetime again, but it's worth examining the Piazza home
- 4:06Speaker 1: run the Yankees World Series run in O one. I mean,
- 4:09Speaker 1: those two things really rallied the city and I think
- 4:13Speaker 1: in more ways than people realized at the time.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Oh correct, you know, sports still are our getaway from
- 4:22Speaker 4: everyday life. And you know, at that time, we didn't know,
- 4:27Speaker 4: especially that day and the day after, if that was it,
- 4:32Speaker 4: if anything, ecause remember they totally shut down, the terrorists
- 4:36Speaker 4: totally shut down the air the planes, and there was
- 4:42Speaker 4: no flights for three four days. It was it was really,
- 4:47Speaker 4: it was really horrendous. And uh, you know, ironically, twenty
- 4:50Speaker 4: three years ago, tonight, the Giants are playing Monday night
- 4:54Speaker 4: football game in Denver and they had they lost the
- 4:58Speaker 4: Broncos that night, and they flew home and they got
- 5:01Speaker 4: home early in the morning, probably around seven, into Newark Airport.
- 5:07Speaker 4: And I'm almost sure, I'm ninety nine percent sure that
- 5:12Speaker 4: the Giants charter flight landed next to flight ninety three,
- 5:17Speaker 4: which ended up going down in Pennsylvania, which the passengers
- 5:24Speaker 4: took down before it hit its wherever The terrorists were
- 5:29Speaker 4: going to take him, and I think to this day,
- 5:30Speaker 4: we don't know where that was going to be. Was
- 5:32Speaker 4: it going to be in the Capitol Building, the White House?
- 5:35Speaker 4: But just justice, just an unbelievable, just an unbelievable time
- 5:42Speaker 4: for Americans. And like I said, I never thought that
- 5:45Speaker 4: could happen, Never thought that could happen in New York City,
- 5:49Speaker 4: never thought that could happen in America. So but we
- 5:53Speaker 4: lean on sports to get our minds away from a
- 5:58Speaker 4: lot of things that happened in this world. But we
- 6:00Speaker 4: can never forget what happened on September eleventh, and sports
- 6:03Speaker 4: played a major help everyone in their return to somewhat normalcy.
- 6:12Speaker 4: I don't know if the world has been normal since
- 6:13Speaker 4: that day, but sports that definitely played played its part
- 6:18Speaker 4: into into healing a little bit. But it was an
- 6:27Speaker 4: interesting week in the NFL Alex I thought to play
- 6:33Speaker 4: as I was watching all the games on Sunday, I
- 6:36Speaker 4: thought the play was poor throughout the league. I thought
- 6:39Speaker 4: the quarterback play was poor throughout the league. And you
- 6:44Speaker 4: know that could be because a lot of these teams
- 6:47Speaker 4: don't play their regulars in the preseason. And I still
- 6:51Speaker 4: understand that, and I would do the same thing. But
- 6:54Speaker 4: the quality of play this weekend was not what you're
- 6:58Speaker 4: going to see a month from now. And it's going
- 7:01Speaker 4: to be interesting to see when the injuries report comes
- 7:03Speaker 4: out today and tomorrow to see how many teams have
- 7:08Speaker 4: major injuries well, I don't want to say major injuries,
- 7:12Speaker 4: but more on the injury list than you normally would
- 7:14Speaker 4: see on a weekly basis.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I know, well, the one unseen was Christian McCaffrey last
- 7:21Speaker 1: night and the Jets. I thought they would have an
- 7:25Speaker 1: advantage with McCaffrey out to be completely honest and Rogers
- 7:28Speaker 1: out there what went wrong? And I feel like you
- 7:31Speaker 1: were right over reaction Monday did happened it? And Tuesday
- 7:35Speaker 1: now too well overreaction.
- 7:38Speaker 4: There's a lot of overreaction in a lot of NFL
- 7:41Speaker 4: cities today, both positively and negatively. Obviously, the forty nine
- 7:49Speaker 4: ers are the favorites to go back to the Super
- 7:50Speaker 4: Bowl from the NFC. Obviously, the forty nine ers have
- 7:54Speaker 4: their program totally set in place. You know what I
- 7:58Speaker 4: think of Kyle Shant, and we've talked about it last year.
- 8:02Speaker 4: I think he is one of the most underrated coaches
- 8:04Speaker 4: in the NFL. His game preparation is on a scale
- 8:09Speaker 4: of one to ten, a nine point nine. He's a
- 8:13Speaker 4: great offensive coach. They the Niners put guys in motion,
- 8:18Speaker 4: they run, the Jets sweep their schemes totally had the
- 8:22Speaker 4: Jets off balance defensively, and I was shocked that the
- 8:26Speaker 4: Jet defense, which you know, really confused Patrick Mahomes last year,
- 8:33Speaker 4: confused c J. Stroud and the Jet's biggest win of
- 8:38Speaker 4: the year thirty to six against the Texans had Josh
- 8:43Speaker 4: Allen turning the Bowl over on Opening Night last year,
- 8:45Speaker 4: even after Aaron Rodgers went down. You know, they were
- 8:49Speaker 4: top three defense statistically the last two years. Last night, Alex,
- 8:54Speaker 4: they were terrible. They were dominated, They were physically dominated.
- 8:59Speaker 4: They didn't they put no pressure on Party. They couldn't
- 9:03Speaker 4: stop the run game, which surprised me. There was wide
- 9:08Speaker 4: open receivers in the middle of the field. Now, Robert
- 9:12Speaker 4: Sala was a defensive coordinator with Shanahan at the forty
- 9:17Speaker 4: nine ers when they went to that first Super Bowl,
- 9:19Speaker 4: so he should know what was You would think he
- 9:22Speaker 4: should know, doubt what was going on and what they expect,
- 9:25Speaker 4: But they were out coach last night. They were not prepared,
- 9:30Speaker 4: which surprised me. I don't think it's something. I hope
- 9:33Speaker 4: it's not something we're gonna see throughout the rest of
- 9:36Speaker 4: the season. And you know, the offense was only on
- 9:39Speaker 4: the field for twenty one minutes, and really, let's let's
- 9:42Speaker 4: the last four minutes and twenty two seconds that they
- 9:45Speaker 4: were on the field with Tyrod Taylor, you could you
- 9:47Speaker 4: could throw that down the toilet bowl. The Jets really
- 9:50Speaker 4: had the both for like seventeen or eighteen minutes with
- 9:53Speaker 4: Rogers at the quarterback. The Jets defense was scored on
- 9:56Speaker 4: eight consecutive possessions happen, And I think that'll get straightened out.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Now.
- 10:02Speaker 4: They won't be playing a team as good as the
- 10:04Speaker 4: forty nine ers every week, but the forty nine is
- 10:10Speaker 4: now rather at a time in their development where the
- 10:13Speaker 4: only thing they have to do is they got to
- 10:14Speaker 4: win the Super Bowl. They go into the Super Bowl,
- 10:17Speaker 4: which they've done twice, is not good enough. They could
- 10:22Speaker 4: put they had interchangeable parts. They knew McCaffrey wasn't gonna
- 10:27Speaker 4: play since it seemed like since Thursday or Friday. So
- 10:32Speaker 4: Jordan Mason an undrafted rookie. Again, we talk about running backs,
- 10:39Speaker 4: here's another kid who was undrafted as a running back
- 10:43Speaker 4: had one hundred and forty seven yards last night. And
- 10:49Speaker 4: that's why you gotta be careful how you spend money
- 10:51Speaker 4: on running backs and where you pick him in the draft.
- 10:53Speaker 4: But they kicked the Jets butt. There's no other way
- 10:56Speaker 4: to say it. The defense really has I would not
- 10:59Speaker 4: want to be in that room when they get back,
- 11:03Speaker 4: whether it's I assume tomorrow, since they they landed at
- 11:06Speaker 4: seven o'clock this morning in Newark, I assume they'll be
- 11:11Speaker 4: back in tomorrow. I wouldn't. I would not want to
- 11:14Speaker 4: be in that defensive room. I would not. I mean
- 11:18Speaker 4: everything that the coaches rip them on, the players have
- 11:24Speaker 4: no kick coming. No one played well for the Jets. Defensively,
- 11:28Speaker 4: they were.
- 11:28Speaker 1: At that's a surprise because last year they were one
- 11:30Speaker 1: of the top defenses in this in the league.
- 11:33Speaker 4: I felt right, and they were, and statistically they were,
- 11:35Speaker 4: And I think this is an aberration and I think
- 11:38Speaker 4: this is a wake up poll. Maybe they were reading
- 11:40Speaker 4: their press. Climpings has a great defense. I thought Rogers through.
- 11:44Speaker 4: Now getting back to the offense, I thought Rogers threw
- 11:46Speaker 4: the pool very well, which was a positive thing, but
- 11:52Speaker 4: they couldn't run the football. And the Jets couldn't run
- 11:54Speaker 4: the football last year, even though Breis Hall came within
- 12:00Speaker 4: six y odds of a thousand yards. But there's no opening,
- 12:03Speaker 4: so that they have to improve in that area. I
- 12:06Speaker 4: thought the pass protection was good. He was sacked once,
- 12:09Speaker 4: ironically by Leonard Floyd, who hit him last year when
- 12:13Speaker 4: he tore his achilles. When Floyd was on the Bills,
- 12:18Speaker 4: there was only five pressures on him, including the sack,
- 12:21Speaker 4: for the entire game, So I mean that was positive.
- 12:26Speaker 4: But as I said, I wasn't worried about who they
- 12:29Speaker 4: were playing in the first eleven days. The fact that
- 12:33Speaker 4: they're playing three games in eleven days makes every game problematic.
- 12:38Speaker 4: It really does. I did not expect them to win
- 12:41Speaker 4: last night, but I expected the game to be closer.
- 12:44Speaker 4: I expected the game to be more competitive, and it wasn't.
- 12:49Speaker 4: I mean, the last two and a half quarters, the
- 12:53Speaker 4: forty nine ers did anything they wanted to do both ways,
- 12:58Speaker 4: offensively and defensively. And I mean brock Perdy knows how
- 13:03Speaker 4: to run that offense. And you go back to the
- 13:05Speaker 4: draft of twenty twenty two, and he was the last
- 13:08Speaker 4: quarterback drafted. He was the last player drafted. You do
- 13:10Speaker 4: that draft all over again. He's the first quarterback drafted.
- 13:13Speaker 4: You look at that list of quarterbacks from twenty twenty two.
- 13:17Speaker 4: Can he Pickett Ritter whose I don't think he's on
- 13:20Speaker 4: anybody's practice squad. You can go right down the line
- 13:23Speaker 4: a Skylet Thompson. I believe he was in that draft
- 13:26Speaker 4: and he's a decent backup, and he's still on the
- 13:29Speaker 4: Dolphins roster as their backup. But the number one, the
- 13:32Speaker 4: number one pick quarterback that year, without a doubt, if
- 13:35Speaker 4: you have to redo the draft, would be Rock Perdy
- 13:37Speaker 4: and he was mister irrelevant. Think about that, Alex. A
- 13:45Speaker 4: couple of things that caught my eye on.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Some Oh no, you're right, and you know Rock Party.
- 13:50Speaker 1: We've had our debates. I guess you and I have
- 13:53Speaker 1: talked about him. I thought he was coming into his
- 13:56Speaker 1: own and then stumbled a little bit. But he is
- 13:58Speaker 1: becoming a notable no Also quarterback. But he's he's becoming
- 14:05Speaker 1: known a little more and he's gonna you.
- 14:07Speaker 4: Know what, Alex, he's one of the top He's one
- 14:09Speaker 4: of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. Would you call
- 14:12Speaker 4: him elitiat though I wouldn't call him elite yet, you know,
- 14:16Speaker 4: sometimes that that word is over overplayed. He's a leite
- 14:20Speaker 4: for that offense. He's a leak for that team.
- 14:23Speaker 1: And not to go backwards, but if he was healthy
- 14:26Speaker 1: most of that game against the Eagles a couple of
- 14:28Speaker 1: years ago, they have a chance.
- 14:29Speaker 4: I really believe that at Alex. Actually, you beat me
- 14:33Speaker 4: too when I was going to say that, if he
- 14:35Speaker 4: didn't get hurt in that game, they might have been
- 14:36Speaker 4: in the super Bowl two years in a row without without,
- 14:40Speaker 4: without a doubt. Since he started, and I don't know
- 14:44Speaker 4: the number of exact number of games he started, but
- 14:47Speaker 4: I would have to say it's probably probably around about
- 14:53Speaker 4: twenty five. Since he started late in twenty twenty two,
- 14:59Speaker 4: he scored thirty points. The Niners have with him as
- 15:03Speaker 4: their quarterback fourteen times he scored thirty points. No other
- 15:07Speaker 4: quarterback in the league has done that. Not Josh Allen,
- 15:10Speaker 4: not Matt Patrick, Mahomes, not Lamar Jackson, not justin Herbert
- 15:16Speaker 4: rock Purdy. So he's he's the real deal. They're the
- 15:22Speaker 4: real real deal, and I think the Jets will bounce back.
- 15:25Speaker 4: I was I was disappointed last night. As you know,
- 15:27Speaker 4: I'm a I'm a longtime Jets ruder. I was disappointed
- 15:32Speaker 4: that they were so ill prepared.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Did you find the Niners where we talk about this
- 15:37Speaker 1: during the Last Ball preview, were they more disciplined? I
- 15:40Speaker 1: mean we talked about Shanahan's coaching style and how sometimes
- 15:44Speaker 1: we look at the scene and say, man, they're not
- 15:46Speaker 1: disciplined for prime time yet, But they are. They are now.
- 15:50Speaker 1: I think they're they're there, So they are.
- 15:53Speaker 4: And Fred Warner, three time pro bowler, came out like
- 15:58Speaker 4: a crazy man last night, said the tone for defense,
- 16:01Speaker 4: and like I said, after the first quarter, it was
- 16:06Speaker 4: the forty nine ers game and they never looked back.
- 16:10Speaker 1: But well, around the league, I know we're gonna get
- 16:13Speaker 1: there in a second. But I have to say this,
- 16:14Speaker 1: Lou I had no problem with the Eagles winning. I mean,
- 16:18Speaker 1: I have no real qualms with the Eagles, but the
- 16:21Speaker 1: Giants losing of the Cowboys winning opening week killed me
- 16:25Speaker 1: because you know, I just don't know what it is
- 16:29Speaker 1: about Dallas. I just can't stand them personally.
- 16:32Speaker 4: Well, you're a Giants fan, so uh, you know.
- 16:36Speaker 1: But to lose that the way we look, the way
- 16:38Speaker 1: that the Giants lost and then see the way the
- 16:40Speaker 1: Cowboys won really ticked me. All. I have to say,
- 16:43Speaker 1: and the fact that I thought the actual Cowboys were
- 16:48Speaker 1: going to be shakier than the Giants, that's a little
- 16:50Speaker 1: more surprising too, Like maybe they will be down in
- 16:53Speaker 1: the long run. Maybe this was a flashing bad against
- 16:56Speaker 1: the Browns. But you know, it pissed me off to
- 17:00Speaker 1: the Cowboys one the kind of shocked me at the
- 17:02Speaker 1: same time.
- 17:03Speaker 4: Well, all right, let's look at the nfcas what happened
- 17:06Speaker 4: in the NCS this weekend. Real quickly, I thought the
- 17:09Speaker 4: Eagles were very shaky on on a Friday night, just
- 17:17Speaker 4: Jalen Hurts almost for a guy who came within a
- 17:21Speaker 4: couple of plays of winning the Super Bowl a couple
- 17:23Speaker 4: of years ago, made a couple of horrendous throws won
- 17:26Speaker 4: across his body that when they were up thirty one
- 17:29Speaker 4: to twenty eight, that was just head scratching at this
- 17:33Speaker 4: point in his career. They were to me, they were shaky.
- 17:38Speaker 4: The Cowboys. We talked about inconsistent quarterback play out throughout
- 17:45Speaker 4: the NFL, and before the game started, about eleven o'clock,
- 17:50Speaker 4: the word came out that the Cowboys had signed Dak
- 17:54Speaker 4: Prescott to a sixty year a sixty million dollar four
- 17:57Speaker 4: year contract. You see why why you know the poor
- 18:01Speaker 4: quarter pip play throughout the league. Dak Prescott is good.
- 18:04Speaker 4: He was second in the NFL MVP voting last year.
- 18:07Speaker 4: And I've always been a defender of Zach Prescott. Dak
- 18:12Speaker 4: Prescott as a quarterback. He was fantastic on Sunday, and
- 18:15Speaker 4: I thought that I thought the Cowboys are gonna have
- 18:17Speaker 4: a little trouble on Sunday. He was fantastic. And Deshaun
- 18:20Speaker 4: Watson he looked, he looked like he had like he
- 18:25Speaker 4: was one of those rookie quarterbacks. He was clueless. I
- 18:29Speaker 4: don't know how good I don't know how good the
- 18:31Speaker 4: Cowboys are going.
- 18:32Speaker 1: I don't want to make a crash joke, but they
- 18:33Speaker 1: don't have the massage parlor type of things in Cleveland.
- 18:38Speaker 1: But I gotta say this, Lou, I find the Browns
- 18:41Speaker 1: are picking up the all NFL rejects. Now they have
- 18:44Speaker 1: Kadarius Tony, who basically was eggs out from the Chiefs.
- 18:47Speaker 1: It's very interesting how they're trying to Are they trying
- 18:50Speaker 1: to be a rehab of of I don't know exactly,
- 18:54Speaker 1: but they do pick up some some rejects and they
- 18:57Speaker 1: try and make them stars again.
- 18:59Speaker 4: Right, Well, I mean they want to make him a
- 19:01Speaker 4: productive player. I mean, Cadarius Tony was never a star.
- 19:06Speaker 4: He was a star in the figment of his own
- 19:08Speaker 4: imagination and uh and in the media, he was never
- 19:11Speaker 4: a star. But he's a guy who has talent. He
- 19:15Speaker 4: can run fast, whether it's in a as in a
- 19:19Speaker 4: kick return game or as a receiver. So they're going
- 19:25Speaker 4: to give him a shot. And why not. I would
- 19:28Speaker 4: do the same thing if I if I was looking
- 19:30Speaker 4: for a receiver. So you know, we'll see what happens
- 19:34Speaker 4: with him. But Washington looked terrible the other day. And
- 19:39Speaker 4: Jaden Daniels look like a rookie. I mean, all three
- 19:43Speaker 4: rookie quarterbacks who started looked like fish out of water
- 19:46Speaker 4: on Sunday. None of them looked like Joe Burrow and.
- 19:50Speaker 1: He and by the way, you are the one that
- 19:51Speaker 1: said look out for how these three these quarterbacks that
- 19:55Speaker 1: just got drafted start And I guess we got our
- 19:57Speaker 1: answer so far, right.
- 19:58Speaker 4: We didn't. And it's not I mean that's mean that
- 20:00Speaker 4: they're busts or anything like that. Absolutely not. But Caleb
- 20:06Speaker 4: Williams really was poor. But the Bears got a block
- 20:10Speaker 4: punt from Jonathan Owens, married to Simon Biles for block
- 20:16Speaker 4: punt that he returned for a touchdown, and Will lev Is,
- 20:19Speaker 4: still a young quarterback in his second year, just threw
- 20:23Speaker 4: a horrendous pass with the Titans still ahead with seven
- 20:28Speaker 4: forty to go that was returned for a touchdown and
- 20:33Speaker 4: he should have taken the sack and Levis didn't, and
- 20:36Speaker 4: he tried to try as he was falling down, tried
- 20:39Speaker 4: to make a side on pass that was picked off.
- 20:41Speaker 4: And the Bears won a game that they, as they
- 20:44Speaker 4: would say in sports, they stole.
- 20:47Speaker 1: But yeah, but my dad would be happy about that.
- 20:49Speaker 1: I mean, obviously, Caleb, my dad a huge Bear fan.
- 20:51Speaker 1: So to see them win, at least one of my
- 20:54Speaker 1: weekend teams got a W.
- 20:55Speaker 4: That yeah, well that's the most important thing. They got
- 20:58Speaker 4: to a Dell W and they survived and now advance
- 21:02Speaker 4: the next week.
- 21:03Speaker 1: And on the flip side, I mean, I thought the
- 21:05Speaker 1: Titans were going to come out. Yes, they don't have
- 21:06Speaker 1: Derrick Henry, but Titans are an interesting team, right, so
- 21:09Speaker 1: they're trying to rebuild. Lou speaking of them losing and
- 21:13Speaker 1: giving up seventeen points, then of course the game winning
- 21:16Speaker 1: pick six Will Levis, I remember when he got drafted.
- 21:19Speaker 1: There was this huge hooplah, you know, like this, he
- 21:24Speaker 1: had this entourage, he had this big party going on
- 21:27Speaker 1: when he got drafted. Kind of a disappointing to start
- 21:30Speaker 1: for Tennessee. But are we going to expect them to
- 21:34Speaker 1: have some of these other games like this because they're
- 21:36Speaker 1: in the rebuilding mode? What do you think?
- 21:39Speaker 4: Well, I hope they have that on Sunday because that's
- 21:41Speaker 4: where the Jets go next.
- 21:42Speaker 1: So we'll see that. I see that.
- 21:46Speaker 4: They have some talent. But again Will Levis, who has
- 21:53Speaker 4: an incredibly strong arm and I think could be an
- 22:00Speaker 4: NFL quarterback. I'm not sure yet, as with a lot
- 22:03Speaker 4: of these guys, but I think he can be.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Uh.
- 22:06Speaker 4: He had some good games last year after he replaced
- 22:08Speaker 4: Tannehill Tananehill. As we said, it's still a free agent.
- 22:11Speaker 4: But uh, you know, you gotta remember Will Levis. You know,
- 22:19Speaker 4: I know I see you on uh TV. You've already
- 22:22Speaker 4: you're already doing a Mayo commercial because it's a big
- 22:26Speaker 4: Mayo guy. I guess he uh uses Mayo on everything,
- 22:30Speaker 4: including dunking it in his coffee. So, uh, you know,
- 22:35Speaker 4: we'll see again. Do do these guys redip plus clippings
- 22:40Speaker 4: before they've accomplished anything. Now did the Jets redip press
- 22:44Speaker 4: clipping was going into the Jets defense reached there, reached
- 22:50Speaker 4: their uh redid press clippings before going into the uh
- 22:58Speaker 4: game last night. I don't know, Alex, I don't know,
- 23:01Speaker 4: and uh so so uh well, we'll see. But these
- 23:08Speaker 4: rookie quarterbacks had a tough time. And I'll tell you
- 23:12Speaker 4: quarterbacks who didn't impress me. Baker Mayfield is tremendous. I
- 23:18Speaker 4: know it's only against the Redskins, excuse me, against the Commanders,
- 23:23Speaker 4: but he impressed me. The game on the best game
- 23:26Speaker 4: of the week was the Sunday night game between the
- 23:29Speaker 4: Rams and the Lions. Both teams are for real.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Stare for it.
- 23:33Speaker 4: I mean he is on a Hall of Fame path
- 23:37Speaker 4: golf played that excellent game. Uh both teams are gonna
- 23:42Speaker 4: be playing postseason. Patrick Mahomes impressed me. What could you
- 23:47Speaker 4: say about Patrick Mahomes? He always he always does, but.
- 23:55Speaker 1: They have but Mahomes is it. Mahomes is getting a
- 23:58Speaker 1: little bit in in a I hate to say lebron
- 24:03Speaker 1: esque way with the way he complains about things and
- 24:06Speaker 1: his mot his emotion. I don't know, He's just a
- 24:09Speaker 1: changed quarterback. He isn't as humble as he used to be,
- 24:11Speaker 1: and that's really shocked. I thought he'd stay humble through
- 24:14Speaker 1: all the winning. I thought he was gonna be built differently.
- 24:16Speaker 1: You know.
- 24:17Speaker 4: Well, he probably figures that he's earned he's earned the
- 24:20Speaker 4: right to to speak and uh, you know, make his
- 24:27Speaker 4: feelings known. Obviously, he's he's the face of the league.
- 24:33Speaker 1: By the way, can you believe that Duke is going
- 24:35Speaker 1: to be impacting my whole mood this entire season? I mean,
- 24:40Speaker 1: I have Notre Dame has Riley Leonard from Duke transfer
- 24:45Speaker 1: and Jones is their esteemed alum, and he's gonna drive
- 24:49Speaker 1: me crazy every every every Sunday. I didn't think Duke
- 24:53Speaker 1: football would have an impact on my life every week
- 24:56Speaker 1: this fall, But here we are.
- 24:58Speaker 4: Well, let's talk about the Giant debacle on on Sunday.
- 25:02Speaker 4: I did not expect them to play that poorly either,
- 25:05Speaker 4: just like I didn't expect the Jet defense to play
- 25:07Speaker 4: that poorly. But in the Giants casey, they played poorly
- 25:14Speaker 4: both ways, they really did, and I was I was
- 25:19Speaker 4: surprised that they played They played that poorly, and uh,
- 25:22Speaker 4: you know, it was Dable's first thing game calling the
- 25:25Speaker 4: offensive plays, and uh, it was, it was. It was
- 25:31Speaker 4: not good. It was, it was not good. There were
- 25:34Speaker 4: seven flags on the Giants that took it the first
- 25:36Speaker 4: in the first eight minutes of the game. And again
- 25:39Speaker 4: that's product of not not playing in the preseason. But
- 25:46Speaker 4: h they they couldn't run the ball, they couldn't throw
- 25:51Speaker 4: the ball. Their oline really didn't do a terrible job
- 25:56Speaker 4: protecting a Jones.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I mean, so I'm watching this thing, and of course
- 26:01Speaker 1: the first quarter they caused the turnover. I think that
- 26:03Speaker 1: gave a lot of people hope that this Giant defense
- 26:06Speaker 1: caused the fumble. And that was a great play in
- 26:09Speaker 1: the Giants in the vikings, you know, Giants red zone.
- 26:12Speaker 1: I guess the vikings end and you have Jones run
- 26:16Speaker 1: it and not try it. I don't know the play.
- 26:24Speaker 1: I don't say the play calling there. I really don't.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Well again, uh, you know, I guess some people are
- 26:32Speaker 4: criticizing the fact they didn't go to neighbors more. But
- 26:35Speaker 4: you know, I watched most of the first three quarters.
- 26:40Speaker 4: But once once I said the game was at hand,
- 26:43Speaker 4: there was just so many games on at the same
- 26:44Speaker 4: time I got away from it. There weren't a lot
- 26:48Speaker 4: of open receivers Alex for Jones, and you look at that,
- 26:52Speaker 4: you look at the quarterback on the other side of
- 26:54Speaker 4: the of the line, and Sam Darnold. Here's a guy
- 27:00Speaker 4: who played a great game on Sunday. Here's a guy
- 27:04Speaker 4: who I always thought who was an NFL quarterback. But
- 27:08Speaker 4: going back to when the Jets draft of number three overall,
- 27:10Speaker 4: they should not have put him behind center right away.
- 27:13Speaker 4: He should have been he should have watched maybe for
- 27:16Speaker 4: the whole year. They should have got a backup quarterback.
- 27:18Speaker 4: The Jets weren't gonna win the Super Bowl out that
- 27:20Speaker 4: year anyway, and they put him in and they ruined
- 27:24Speaker 4: the kid. And remember they don't have the offensive weapons
- 27:27Speaker 4: like they have now. There was no Breeze Hall when
- 27:30Speaker 4: Sam Donald was there, or or Garrett Wilson or people
- 27:36Speaker 4: like that. He's the Vikings might be the right fit
- 27:42Speaker 4: for him. He threw a couple of fantastic passes right
- 27:45Speaker 4: on the money, justin Jefferson the touchdown the end zone.
- 27:50Speaker 4: I was impressed with Donald, I really was.
- 27:53Speaker 1: And oh yeah, Darnold actually that one. And of course
- 27:57Speaker 1: I was telling my future following Lawn, I said, look,
- 28:00Speaker 1: Jefferson's a you know, he was MVP can it last year.
- 28:03Speaker 1: He's not some random wide receiver. He's good for the Vikings.
- 28:08Speaker 1: And can you imagine if he connects with Donald like
- 28:11Speaker 1: he did with Cousins for a few you know moments
- 28:14Speaker 1: there when when Cousins on the team. I mean, look,
- 28:16Speaker 1: you have that one to two connection. Vikings could be
- 28:19Speaker 1: very dangerous in that NFC North.
- 28:21Speaker 4: I think I think the Vikings could be they they
- 28:24Speaker 4: could be a fifth or succeed the Lions, barring major injuries,
- 28:30Speaker 4: are loaded. I mean, this is a year that they
- 28:34Speaker 4: they couldn't be playing on February ninth. They almost did
- 28:37Speaker 4: last year. They almost made the Super Bowl. Last year,
- 28:40Speaker 4: the Rams excellent, they could have. That was a great
- 28:43Speaker 4: game the other night. The Rams will be in the
- 28:45Speaker 4: playoffs again, always barring major barring major injuries, I think,
- 28:52Speaker 4: you know, you can almost pencil in San Francisco, Detroit,
- 28:58Speaker 4: the Rams, even though Phil was shaky on Friday night.
- 29:04Speaker 4: I think you can pencil them in. And then you
- 29:06Speaker 4: have Dallas next, and then we'll go and see who
- 29:11Speaker 4: rises in the AFC. Houston's gonna be real good. You know,
- 29:18Speaker 4: Buffalo is gonna be Buffalo because of Josh Allen. The
- 29:21Speaker 4: thing that might hurt Buffalo. They would rely so much
- 29:25Speaker 4: on him, Alex He's single handedly brought them back in
- 29:28Speaker 4: the game that they were losing seventy to three to
- 29:31Speaker 4: the Arizona Cardinals and could have he easily lost that game.
- 29:36Speaker 4: And leaning on him and he does a lot of running,
- 29:44Speaker 4: they gotta be careful there. Pittsburgh tough one out. They
- 29:48Speaker 4: are the mental toughness of the Pittsburgh Steels. And we
- 29:50Speaker 4: talked about them always being good no matter who they lose,
- 29:53Speaker 4: no matter what happens, whether it's through free agency, losing
- 29:56Speaker 4: a person, or through through an injury, They're always ready
- 30:01Speaker 4: to play and Tomlin always has them ready to play.
- 30:05Speaker 4: And in that game against Atlanta, Kirk Coussins looked like
- 30:10Speaker 4: a guy who was aware that he was coming back
- 30:12Speaker 4: from an Achilles' tendon injury. He looked he looked tentative
- 30:16Speaker 4: to me, he really did. I'm sure he'll get better
- 30:19Speaker 4: as you know, as the season goes on, but he
- 30:21Speaker 4: looked tentative the other night. Just a couple of other
- 30:25Speaker 4: things that caught my eye. Only two three hundred yard
- 30:28Speaker 4: passes this week, only two. There were seven one hundred
- 30:32Speaker 4: yard rushers. But as I was watching a game on Sunday.
- 30:37Speaker 4: Everybody was lining up for field goals, not thirty five
- 30:40Speaker 4: yard field goals Alex. This weekend, including last night, there
- 30:45Speaker 4: were nineteen field goals of fifty yards or more. The
- 30:50Speaker 4: kickers have become elite athletes in their own right. Brandon Aubrey,
- 31:00Speaker 4: he kicked one from sixty six yards the other day
- 31:03Speaker 4: that would have tied the NFL record in Cleveland, and
- 31:07Speaker 4: Dallas had a clock violation or else he would have
- 31:13Speaker 4: tied the record. NFL analytics and trackers said that the
- 31:18Speaker 4: kick would have been good from seventy two yards. If
- 31:21Speaker 4: they're gonna start kicking sixty five sixty two yardfield goals
- 31:25Speaker 4: fifty eight yard field goals on a consistent basis, this
- 31:28Speaker 4: is just my observation in the next five years, the
- 31:32Speaker 4: NFL will come up with some kind of rule.
- 31:34Speaker 1: I had seen that. By the way, I'd seen that,
- 31:37Speaker 1: a sixty seven yarder for Dallas. It's like, how far
- 31:41Speaker 1: back from the logo do you want to be?
- 31:43Speaker 4: And it worked?
- 31:44Speaker 1: He got it? He got it, didn't.
- 31:46Speaker 4: He he got it? But Dallas didn't get the playoff
- 31:49Speaker 4: in time, So you.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Know that, Oh yeah, that's right. They got the McCarthy
- 31:55Speaker 1: was furious, right, and.
- 31:56Speaker 4: They looked like they would have him kicked a seventy
- 31:58Speaker 4: one yard if kickers. Chris Boswell for the Steelers against
- 32:05Speaker 4: the Falcons kicked two fifty sevens and a fifty six
- 32:09Speaker 4: yard field goal. I mean, in the next five years,
- 32:14Speaker 4: is it just me talking? I wouldn't be surprised if
- 32:17Speaker 4: they put in some kind of rule to discourage field
- 32:21Speaker 4: goal kicking from those distances. I don't know what it is.
- 32:27Speaker 4: It's just something that I'm gonna keep an eye on
- 32:30Speaker 4: because I mean, you complete complete two passes at the
- 32:34Speaker 4: end of the game and start kicking sixty eight yard
- 32:36Speaker 4: field goals. Sixty seven yard field goals. I mean, I
- 32:39Speaker 4: think that's that's something too to look out there. The
- 32:48Speaker 4: most impressive teams, in my opinion were the Niners, the Lions,
- 32:53Speaker 4: the Rams in defeat the Buccaneers, even though he were
- 32:57Speaker 4: just playing the Redskin, the Commander, and the Cowboys.
- 33:05Speaker 1: You know, I think that those games. I just think
- 33:11Speaker 1: by the way, I was just thinking of kou who's
- 33:12Speaker 1: great kicker for the Falcons. I like what he does
- 33:15Speaker 1: too down there in Atlanta. He's solid for them. But no,
- 33:19Speaker 1: I just think the first week was a bit of
- 33:25Speaker 1: a confusing week in the sense of how big the
- 33:27Speaker 1: scores were. I mean, the Saints forty seven points. I
- 33:31Speaker 1: don't know if that's gonna be an anomaly or if
- 33:33Speaker 1: that's going to be the norm. I don't know if
- 33:35Speaker 1: it's going to be the norm. I just felt like
- 33:37Speaker 1: we have to wait for another few weeks to see
- 33:38Speaker 1: where we are by the trade deadline. Maybe we'll have
- 33:41Speaker 1: a better deal. I don't like people writing off the
- 33:44Speaker 1: Giants after one week. I don't like people writing off
- 33:46Speaker 1: the Jets after one week. I know that people feel
- 33:49Speaker 1: like this is a continuation of last year, and maybe
- 33:52Speaker 1: in some ways it is, but you know.
- 33:55Speaker 4: Well, go in the Jets case, I would be shocked
- 33:59Speaker 4: if they if they don't bounce back uh and have
- 34:03Speaker 4: a and have a real good season.
- 34:04Speaker 1: The bags thinking with the Jets is how strong did
- 34:06Speaker 1: Rogers look in the pocket? That's my question because.
- 34:09Speaker 4: Obviously I would say I would say he looks very strong.
- 34:12Speaker 4: He just didn't get enough opportunities.
- 34:15Speaker 1: But that's the thing. If he looks strong, then the
- 34:17Speaker 1: Jets are going to be fine. And you know what,
- 34:19Speaker 1: we talk about the Italians here because you're a mister
- 34:22Speaker 1: proud Italian American lou uh de Vito will have another
- 34:26Speaker 1: chance this year if things go south with Daniel Jones. Well,
- 34:28Speaker 1: the problem with that is they can't do that because
- 34:31Speaker 1: they've locked Jones in to this ridiculous contract. And that
- 34:35Speaker 1: is on Joe Shane, isn't.
- 34:36Speaker 4: It It is? But again, Joe Shane did put out
- 34:40Speaker 4: put it out in that contract. So I doubt if
- 34:45Speaker 4: he'll be the Giant quarterback next year. And I'm sure
- 34:48Speaker 4: whatever cap hit they gotta take, they will. They have
- 34:50Speaker 4: an out to get out of the remaining three years
- 34:55Speaker 4: of that deal. I think it's three years of that deal,
- 34:57Speaker 4: and they will. They will get out because if you
- 34:58Speaker 4: soar Hot Knocks, there was no doubt about the Giants
- 35:03Speaker 4: were trying to trade up to to draft another quarterback,
- 35:06Speaker 4: to draft to draft.
- 35:09Speaker 1: And I'm sure that leads a frustration from Jones. You know,
- 35:11Speaker 1: he looked.
- 35:13Speaker 4: You know, we watched hard Knocks.
- 35:15Speaker 3: You know.
- 35:15Speaker 1: The other thing, one last thing is off the field,
- 35:19Speaker 1: Tyreek Hill in another incident and he was back out there.
- 35:23Speaker 1: It almost it's a little different because Scheffler is not
- 35:26Speaker 1: a career you know, a fender and and what I
- 35:29Speaker 1: mean by that's three Kills been known to have some
- 35:32Speaker 1: trouble with the law, not that Scheffler has, But like Scheffler,
- 35:36Speaker 1: he's back out their play. I found that fascinating. He's
- 35:39Speaker 1: had he's handcuffed, that he's back on the field. It's
- 35:41Speaker 1: amazing how those few hours transpired. Uh it just if
- 35:49Speaker 1: you're the Dolphins, how do you handle that kind of character?
- 35:51Speaker 1: That's my question.
- 35:52Speaker 4: Well, the thing is is how you handle it. After
- 36:00Speaker 4: Travis et and fumbled in the end zone, which would
- 36:02Speaker 4: have put Jackson Mill up twenty four to seven and
- 36:05Speaker 4: probably flinched the game for them, two plays later, two
- 36:10Speaker 4: hits Tyreek Hill down the left side line for an
- 36:13Speaker 4: eight OFR touchdown pass. Yes they know that he has
- 36:16Speaker 4: a pass. Yes, they never know what They might get
- 36:20Speaker 4: a phone call at what time. That's something that happened
- 36:24Speaker 4: to Hill as far as something no good. But he
- 36:33Speaker 4: can play the NFL plays vote him the best player
- 36:36Speaker 4: in the league. I disagree with him. Mahomes is the
- 36:39Speaker 4: best player in the league. But Tyreek Hill is an
- 36:43Speaker 4: MVP candidate all the time. So teams have a way
- 36:50Speaker 4: to turn their head when a guy has that much talent.
- 36:54Speaker 4: If he was Kadarius Tony he'd be on somebody's practice squad.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Well, we kind of rounded out that earlier that the brownsmen.
- 37:02Speaker 1: I picked him up and we'll see what they do
- 37:04Speaker 1: with them. By the way, speing of the Chiefs one
- 37:06Speaker 1: more time, I'm very happy that Taylor Swift is not
- 37:11Speaker 1: like the storyline. Now. It's back to football and she's
- 37:14Speaker 1: just part of the Chiefs family now. And I think
- 37:16Speaker 1: that's the way it should be. It shouldn't be all
- 37:18Speaker 1: about the Taylor Swift show. It should be all right,
- 37:20Speaker 1: she's supporting Travis. That's the way it should be praised nowadays,
- 37:23Speaker 1: because it seems like she's just settled in there with him.
- 37:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I would say so. I mean, I really don't.
- 37:32Speaker 4: I don't really care one way or the other. If
- 37:35Speaker 4: I was a Chief fan, I just want to see
- 37:37Speaker 4: the Chiefs win, and obviously they will and they did
- 37:41Speaker 4: the best team in the league along with the Niners.
- 37:43Speaker 1: So we didn't get into this Brady's first time behind
- 37:47Speaker 1: the mic. I did not get a chance to hear it.
- 37:49Speaker 1: What did you think of how he called the game?
- 37:51Speaker 4: I thought it was very average. I thought he sounded
- 37:54Speaker 4: like a rookie, and I'm not That doesn't mean he
- 37:56Speaker 4: can't be a great analyst, but uh, he was for
- 38:01Speaker 4: the most part. He wasn't He wasn't a definitive in
- 38:05Speaker 4: a lot of his on field opinions. Now, the game
- 38:07Speaker 4: wasn't close, so it wasn't like, uh, there was a
- 38:12Speaker 4: fourth and one at the end of the game, and
- 38:15Speaker 4: should they go for it, should they kick? Should they
- 38:18Speaker 4: do this, or should they do that? So there was
- 38:19Speaker 4: no strategy opinions that came from from Brady. But I
- 38:27Speaker 4: thought he was nervous. I really did, Alex. I thought that,
- 38:31Speaker 4: And you know, he's still trying to buy a piece
- 38:33Speaker 4: of a Las Vegas Raiders, which if he does, I
- 38:37Speaker 4: think will limit some of the things he could say
- 38:40Speaker 4: as a color commentation one hundred.
- 38:42Speaker 1: I remember when the whole thing with Gruden, why is
- 38:45Speaker 1: he hype? You know, Gruden was criticized for sounding like
- 38:48Speaker 1: a coach because he wanted to be hired together. He
- 38:50Speaker 1: wasn't able to be like the guy to talk to
- 38:53Speaker 1: because he was so biased, you know. So it's just
- 38:56Speaker 1: it's it is a complic of interest, and I wonder
- 39:00Speaker 1: if that'll change even Fox's playing with having him in
- 39:03Speaker 1: the booth. I don't know, but I've always I've always
- 39:07Speaker 1: thought his postgame interviews with with folks were actually decent.
- 39:12Speaker 1: I didn't think he was bad.
- 39:13Speaker 4: Oh, I thought he was a good post game.
- 39:15Speaker 1: I agree with you, and I just look at you know,
- 39:18Speaker 1: the second company in AFC, which is Mahomes. He's a
- 39:22Speaker 1: little gruffer with with his post game. I don't know,
- 39:25Speaker 1: it's just a little different kind of style. So I
- 39:28Speaker 1: was thinking Brady would take the post game Brady into
- 39:31Speaker 1: the booth of them, and he might. He's still might,
- 39:32Speaker 1: you know, give him all the time.
- 39:34Speaker 4: I guess, oh, without without a doubt. I mean without question.
- 39:37Speaker 4: I mean ape Ben, who I think is the best,
- 39:42Speaker 4: and I think Buck and Aikman as a team are
- 39:44Speaker 4: the best team. Aipman didn't get to where he is
- 39:49Speaker 4: now when he started in nineteen ninety four, ninety five,
- 39:53Speaker 4: whenever that was with Fox. So give Brady a give Brady,
- 39:58Speaker 4: give Brady more.
- 39:59Speaker 1: As long as and the biggest thing was being of
- 40:01Speaker 1: that is going to see how he calls a Patriot game.
- 40:02Speaker 1: I'm very curious to see if he's on the Patriot
- 40:05Speaker 1: game this year, how he calls that, because we know
- 40:07Speaker 1: when Aigman was on the Dallas Cowboys broadcast he always
- 40:11Speaker 1: was a homer for them, and he still has a
- 40:13Speaker 1: Monday Night football But anyway I.
- 40:14Speaker 4: Would I can't agree with that, Alex. I don't think
- 40:17Speaker 4: he was a homer. I don't. I really don't for
- 40:20Speaker 4: the Cowboys. I don't. That's like saying, is Kenny Albert
- 40:24Speaker 4: a homer for the Rangers when he's doing a Ranger game?
- 40:27Speaker 4: I don't think so.
- 40:29Speaker 1: I did love that Kenny was the first game out
- 40:32Speaker 1: at the Giant MetLife save he was there for one
- 40:34Speaker 1: hundredth season opener. I mean that would of course Kenny
- 40:37Speaker 1: would be there, right. That was cool to see that.
- 40:39Speaker 1: So well.
- 40:40Speaker 4: A couple of things wrapping up on my end, the
- 40:43Speaker 4: new rules. It seems like, at least for week one,
- 40:46Speaker 4: they've gone on to these kickers are being instructed by
- 40:50Speaker 4: the special teams and the head coach to kick it
- 40:53Speaker 4: into the through the end zone. We don't care about
- 40:57Speaker 4: this year, losing five extra yards from the twenty five
- 41:01Speaker 4: to the thirty. I mean, I did not see a
- 41:04Speaker 4: lot of kick returns. And the other thing I did
- 41:08Speaker 4: see a couple of uncalled hip drop tackles, one of
- 41:13Speaker 4: them in last night's game where Michael Carter of the
- 41:17Speaker 4: Jets brought down Juan Jennings and that was a classic
- 41:22Speaker 4: hip drop tackle and the officials didn't call it. And
- 41:25Speaker 4: Sunday unscramble up the middle Josh Allen, when I was watching,
- 41:31Speaker 4: definitely was brought down a hip drop tackle. I don't
- 41:35Speaker 4: remember the name it was. I believe the uniform number
- 41:38Speaker 4: was thirteen, but I don't remember the guy's name. I
- 41:39Speaker 4: was watching multiple games at one time.
- 41:43Speaker 1: So, oh, yeah, the red zone and all that fun.
- 41:46Speaker 1: By the way, one last and Hansen does a great
- 41:49Speaker 1: job with that. But one last thing, Kevin O'Connell's aid. Boy,
- 41:52Speaker 1: there's been a lot of penalties this weekend. I guess
- 41:54Speaker 1: the refs have to sort that out as well. Hey,
- 41:57Speaker 1: one last thing, Lou yesterday Unfortunately the Gudrou brothers had
- 42:03Speaker 1: to be, you know, buried. I can't believe we're even
- 42:05Speaker 1: talking about this. That's just horrible. What do you remember
- 42:08Speaker 1: about Johnny and even Matthew who was in the Islanders organization,
- 42:13Speaker 1: and I think he played with the Islanders for a
- 42:15Speaker 1: little bit. What do you remember most about those.
- 42:16Speaker 4: Two Matthew got to the equivalent of double A two
- 42:22Speaker 4: levels from the Islanders. He played in the EHL for
- 42:25Speaker 4: the Islanders farm team, and then he played in Europe
- 42:30Speaker 4: for a couple of years. I never saw him play.
- 42:32Speaker 4: I might have seen him play at Boston College, but
- 42:34Speaker 4: I don't remember remember remember him in Boston College. Johnny Goudreau,
- 42:38Speaker 4: I mean, was a dynamic offensive player. Two years ago
- 42:42Speaker 4: we had one hundred and fifteen points. He was a
- 42:45Speaker 4: lady being a winner. He was a dominant offensive player,
- 42:50Speaker 4: one of the fastest guys in the league. And the
- 42:53Speaker 4: Islanders came very close to signing him two years ago,
- 42:56Speaker 4: as did the Devils. I think the Islanders and Devils.
- 42:59Speaker 4: I think the Devil's offered the most money, but Columbus
- 43:05Speaker 4: must sweeten the pot at the eleventh hour. I really
- 43:07Speaker 4: thought he was gonna end up with with the Islands
- 43:10Speaker 4: or the Devils. And uh I did see a little
- 43:13Speaker 4: bit of the funeral yesterday and it was heartbreaking. I mean,
- 43:16Speaker 4: it's heartbreaking. And then at the funeral, his wife makes
- 43:21Speaker 4: the announcement that she's pregnant with Johnny and her third
- 43:27Speaker 4: third child. I mean, it's just it's just horrific. And
- 43:31Speaker 4: Matthew's wife is going to have a baby in December.
- 43:36Speaker 4: It's unimaginable. What happened to the Goodreaux family. It's unimaginable, Alex,
- 43:43Speaker 4: I don't even know how you rectify it, and in
- 43:46Speaker 4: your own mind.
- 43:47Speaker 1: All because someone to this and and by the way,
- 43:49Speaker 1: Matthew's wife widow now is also pregnant. I mean, how
- 43:53Speaker 1: horrible is that to take his own hands that were
- 43:59Speaker 1: drunk behind the wheel. I just it's you know what
- 44:03Speaker 1: the problem is, lou to be commentary. No one's gonna
- 44:06Speaker 1: learn from it. No driver's gonna learn from it, and say, oh,
- 44:09Speaker 1: you know what if this could happen, you know, if
- 44:12Speaker 1: I see someone else behind the wheel drunk, I should
- 44:14Speaker 1: do that. I feel like no one's gonna really learn.
- 44:16Speaker 1: They're gonna keep making these mistakes. And it's horrible, but
- 44:19Speaker 1: maybe I don't know. You shouldn't drink and drive, that's
- 44:23Speaker 1: the whole point. But no one's gonna learn that lesson
- 44:26Speaker 1: Ye shouldn't. And I mean we see it every day,
- 44:28Speaker 1: whether it's whether it's an athlete, whether it's a regular civilian,
- 44:33Speaker 1: whether it's a woman like what happened a couple of
- 44:36Speaker 1: weeks ago, driving the wrong way and she had had
- 44:40Speaker 1: her license spended fifty six times and she killed her
- 44:43Speaker 1: nine year old son.
- 44:45Speaker 4: Because of her reckless driving, because she was intoxicated. I mean,
- 44:52Speaker 4: she should never be allowed she shouldn't have been allowed
- 44:54Speaker 4: to be being behind the wheel ever. Again, what is
- 44:58Speaker 4: going on here?
- 44:59Speaker 1: But and like it just shows these guys are more
- 45:03Speaker 1: than just athletes. They're people too. And that's that's why
- 45:06Speaker 1: I hate when I see fans throwing beer on the field.
- 45:08Speaker 1: It's like, dude, these people are at their jobs. Okay,
- 45:11Speaker 1: we don't go to your job and throw beer at you.
- 45:13Speaker 1: You screw up, you know, like it's just and.
- 45:17Speaker 4: You're right, Alex. And I guess coming out of MetLife
- 45:19Speaker 4: Stadium on Sunday was probably ninety minutes to two hours
- 45:24Speaker 4: after the game, there were people Giant fans waiting for
- 45:28Speaker 4: Daniel Jones to just to to harass them verbally and
- 45:31Speaker 4: goo the man. I mean, Daniel Jones knows the situation
- 45:36Speaker 4: that he's in and the Giant team is. He knows
- 45:39Speaker 4: he's not the quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs. So
- 45:43Speaker 4: but these fans got gotta let up. I mean, I'm on,
- 45:47Speaker 4: I know they pay a lot of money. I understand it.
- 45:49Speaker 4: Fifty dollars to park one, hundreds of dollars to sit
- 45:53Speaker 4: in MetLife Stadium. I get it, but there's gotta be
- 45:58Speaker 4: a little humility to these fans.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Well, Loud, thanks so much for joining us today as always,
- 46:04Speaker 1: and we didn't have times talk baseball, but that's fine
- 46:07Speaker 1: because we'll get into that next week. I think this
- 46:09Speaker 1: is a very pivotal week for the Mets and Yankees
- 46:13Speaker 1: to stay in that playoff race. I'm telling you, lou
- 46:16Speaker 1: that closed door meeting change everything for the Mets. I
- 46:18Speaker 1: know you don't want to thinks, but I really believe.
- 46:21Speaker 4: Alex said twenty five games since the closed door meeting,
- 46:24Speaker 4: so it did something.
- 46:25Speaker 1: That's right. It did. There you go see, I got
- 46:27Speaker 1: lou to say it did something. I love it, all right,
- 46:30Speaker 1: Terminella's take. Love you, Louis, and thanks for joining us
- 46:32Speaker 1: as always.
- 46:33Speaker 4: My pleasure to talk to you next week.
- 46:35Speaker 1: All right. That was Terminla take on the One Leg
- 46:38Speaker 1: Up Network. I'm Alex Garrett Talk TC
