- 0:02Speaker 1: Welcome to the ned Palty.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Hi, this is Nick and Astasu, story editor on Star Wars,
- 0:10Speaker 2: The Clone Wars and Star Wars bad Batch, and you
- 0:14Speaker 2: are listening to Aggressive Negotiations.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Welcome back, my friends, to the Star Wars podcast that
- 0:27Speaker 1: Never ends. It is Aggressive Negotiations, brought to you, hot
- 0:30Speaker 1: and fresh, once again on a weekly basis, by yours truly,
- 0:34Speaker 1: Jedi Master John Mills, and my dear friend, my close compatriot,
- 0:38Speaker 1: my everlasting companion, Jedi Master Matthew Rushing. Matt, We've got
- 0:43Speaker 1: a really topical conversation this evening, But first I want
- 0:47Speaker 1: to ask have you done your health check? With two
- 0:50Speaker 1: one B walking in? Are you all clear to do
- 0:52Speaker 1: this episode?
- 0:55Speaker 3: Excuse sorry?
- 0:57Speaker 1: Have you seen Rick Niema?
- 0:58Speaker 3: I feel like I've come down with the Wookie flu
- 1:03Speaker 3: and I'm needing some medication. So have you seen her
- 1:07Speaker 3: around the temple here?
- 1:08Speaker 1: Because now she said, I think the last thing she
- 1:12Speaker 1: said to me when I saw her was that she
- 1:13Speaker 1: was wise to your ways and that she refuses to
- 1:16Speaker 1: tend to you anymore. So I don't know what that means.
- 1:19Speaker 1: I'll let the audience figure it out. But what the
- 1:20Speaker 1: audience really needs to figure out is how to go
- 1:22Speaker 1: over to Apple Podcasts and give us a star rating
- 1:25Speaker 1: and review. We think we're a five star show. Do
- 1:28Speaker 1: you think we're a five star show? Go ahead and
- 1:30Speaker 1: let us know. We do this for the love of
- 1:32Speaker 1: the game. We do this for the love of the airways.
- 1:34Speaker 1: We do this for your love. So show us that
- 1:37Speaker 1: you love us too. You can, of course go and
- 1:39Speaker 1: find us on social media on x at the Jedi Masters.
- 1:43Speaker 1: You can find the network there at joint nerd Party,
- 1:46Speaker 1: and you can find the Nerd Party on Instagram and Facebook,
- 1:49Speaker 1: which is really the same company, but that's okay, we
- 1:52Speaker 1: all like to pretend it's two different things. So matt
- 1:56Speaker 1: our topical conversation today, because I've had a couple of
- 2:02Speaker 1: ins and outs, some doctor's appointments lately, you know, some
- 2:04Speaker 1: family and stuff like that, and so really what I'm
- 2:08Speaker 1: thinking about is sort of the logistics. We love to
- 2:11Speaker 1: talk about the logistics of things, like we keep it
- 2:13Speaker 1: light hearted in everything, but there is sort of like
- 2:15Speaker 1: a little itch to scratch on this one. The logistics
- 2:18Speaker 1: of any sort of healthcare system within the Star Wars galaxy,
- 2:23Speaker 1: all of the multitude of species, all the multitude of cultures,
- 2:28Speaker 1: all the multitude of religious beliefs that might prevent you know,
- 2:33Speaker 1: certain procedures or stuff like that, and just sort of
- 2:36Speaker 1: navigating that. So the first first part of the question,
- 2:39Speaker 1: just to get the conversation going, is in the republic
- 2:43Speaker 1: or the empire? I know that a topic that likes
- 2:46Speaker 1: to come up is sort of like this, you know,
- 2:49Speaker 1: universal health insurance sort of thing. Just kicking it off.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Do you think in a republic or empire situation that
- 2:55Speaker 1: there would be any logistical way to truly have like
- 2:58Speaker 1: galactic universal coverage for people like that would just not
- 3:03Speaker 1: be a possibility, would it.
- 3:06Speaker 3: I mean, I don't think the idea of like, you know,
- 3:10Speaker 3: universal coverage given by the empire itself, not that the
- 3:14Speaker 3: empire would care or the Republic would care, you know.
- 3:19Speaker 3: I think in that sense, the idea of whether or
- 3:23Speaker 3: not there would be something like a health insurance system
- 3:30Speaker 3: is definitely very interesting, and I think in some ways
- 3:35Speaker 3: I don't think it would be universal, but I do
- 3:39Speaker 3: think that you could definitely pinpoint planets where you could
- 3:44Speaker 3: see them having a universal coverage for their planet, like,
- 3:48Speaker 3: you know, I got the sense of when we went
- 3:52Speaker 3: to alder On in Kenobi series that that's the type
- 3:56Speaker 3: of planet where that kind of thing would be an
- 4:01Speaker 3: afterthought for them in the sense of like, oh, of
- 4:03Speaker 3: course we have this. You know, dats Ween, you're on
- 4:08Speaker 3: your own. If you can find a monitor or somebody
- 4:11Speaker 3: to bring you back to life. You're paying a lot
- 4:13Speaker 3: of credits for that, as we saw, you know, in
- 4:16Speaker 3: the Book of Boafet series, and so you know it
- 4:20Speaker 3: Like when I was you brought up this question, I
- 4:23Speaker 3: was just thinking about all the different ways in which
- 4:25Speaker 3: we've seen different medical systems, right you know, I mean you
- 4:28Speaker 3: think all the way back to the return of the
- 4:29Speaker 3: our Empire strikes Back when Luke gets his new hand,
- 4:32Speaker 3: right U. And so the type of technology that we've
- 4:37Speaker 3: seen where you know, people can be brought back or
- 4:41Speaker 3: save from from very life threatening things, is absolutely a
- 4:46Speaker 3: possibility in the Star Wars universe. The interesting thing that
- 4:50Speaker 3: I do think is a great question is like who
- 4:52Speaker 3: pays for it? And and how would insurance kind of
- 4:56Speaker 3: work on this kind of galactic scale.
- 5:00Speaker 1: See, I think you wind up unlocking part of the
- 5:02Speaker 1: answer right there because you cite Empire strikes Back, and yes,
- 5:06Speaker 1: there's a two to one B medical droid, and there's
- 5:08Speaker 1: an FX seven medical droid there too. It was one
- 5:10Speaker 1: of my favorite figures growing up as a kid in
- 5:13Speaker 1: the nineteen eighties because it had a whole bunch of
- 5:15Speaker 1: arms that could come out from the size. It was
- 5:16Speaker 1: really neat. But with two to one B and FX
- 5:22Speaker 1: seven and other droids that are out there in the mix,
- 5:26Speaker 1: you actually wind up removing the need for paying anybody
- 5:33Speaker 1: to perform the medical work. It's an upgrade. It's a
- 5:36Speaker 1: you know, downloading knowledge or just having a big computer
- 5:39Speaker 1: that the thing can plug into and say, okay, this
- 5:42Speaker 1: is what I need to do. Because then it's maintaining
- 5:45Speaker 1: the machines, and that I would argue as a lower
- 5:48Speaker 1: base cost. You know, buying the materials and the machines
- 5:52Speaker 1: and keeping things updated is a much lower operational cost
- 5:55Speaker 1: than having people and staff and admins. You don't even
- 5:59Speaker 1: need the layer of you know, administrative bureaucracy for those
- 6:03Speaker 1: sorts of things. But you also hit on the martyrs.
- 6:06Speaker 1: And this is what I would ask you is do
- 6:08Speaker 1: you think therefore that there would be sort of a
- 6:13Speaker 1: sort of like a classism within the Star Wars galaxy.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And I think there's a hint at this sort of
- 6:19Speaker 1: thing where we might view as we enter our cyborg
- 6:26Speaker 1: era here on Earth as humans. Oh, getting the artificial
- 6:31Speaker 1: hip or the knee, or the enhanced you know, the
- 6:35Speaker 1: the enhanced vision or something like that. That's a I'm
- 6:38Speaker 1: paying a premium for that, because.
- 6:39Speaker 3: I mean, come on, John, let's not lie. You're just
- 6:41Speaker 3: all talking. We're talking about your butt lift right now.
- 6:45Speaker 1: You know, I thought we had agreed not to talk
- 6:47Speaker 1: about that, Matt, And you know, especially because we know
- 6:50Speaker 1: that I'm entering a very sensitive phase of my own
- 6:53Speaker 1: career and why I got that. But well, we'll table
- 6:56Speaker 1: that one. That's for Jedi after Dark, a new series.
- 6:59Speaker 1: It'll be coming here on the Nerd Party. But like,
- 7:02Speaker 1: do you think that there would be sort of like
- 7:04Speaker 1: a snobbishness where somebody who had modding, who had the
- 7:10Speaker 1: artificial hand, who had the cyborg implant would actually be
- 7:13Speaker 1: looked down on in Star Wars because keeping you one
- 7:18Speaker 1: hundred percent organic would be viewed as the luxury item.
- 7:22Speaker 1: That would be the part of you that you could
- 7:26Speaker 1: afford to have the new hand cloned, you could afford
- 7:28Speaker 1: to have the bone regrown or something like that. Do
- 7:31Speaker 1: you think that we then see that sort of separation
- 7:33Speaker 1: within a medical system or yeah, you know, a planet.
- 7:36Speaker 1: The planet at least it's.
- 7:38Speaker 3: A great question because you know, you were talking about
- 7:41Speaker 3: the idea of a modding or you know, possibly getting
- 7:44Speaker 3: you know, a mechanical hand, you know, like Luke, and
- 7:46Speaker 3: obviously we saw the idea of the mechanical hand to
- 7:49Speaker 3: grow from where it was in the prequel era to
- 7:52Speaker 3: where we get to by the time Luke gets one
- 7:55Speaker 3: where you know, you really can't even tell that he
- 7:57Speaker 3: has a mechanical hand, right, and so, but then you
- 8:02Speaker 3: think about that idea. Okay, well, you know we had
- 8:05Speaker 3: cloning technology and that kind of thing. It seems lausible
- 8:09Speaker 3: then that we could maybe clone ourselves or at least
- 8:14Speaker 3: grow other body parts if needed, you know, if you
- 8:17Speaker 3: could pay the right amount of credits, right, and so, yeah,
- 8:21Speaker 3: I do think there might be some sort of classism
- 8:23Speaker 3: that might arise there. But you know, it was interesting.
- 8:27Speaker 3: We don't talk about the Book of Both at much
- 8:29Speaker 3: on the show, and partially is because it's that show
- 8:34Speaker 3: and it's quality. But one of the interesting things in
- 8:37Speaker 3: there is that those models were very proud of what
- 8:40Speaker 3: they had done to themselves, like that this is something
- 8:42Speaker 3: they sought out right, They desired these things and I
- 8:46Speaker 3: think making the joke like you did about the era
- 8:49Speaker 3: we're kind of entering in as a society as we
- 8:53Speaker 3: live now, where you know, more and more people are
- 8:56Speaker 3: willing to augment themselves in different ways to get the
- 9:00Speaker 3: desired outcome. That's very similar in that way, right, and so,
- 9:06Speaker 3: but I think you know the question of of medical
- 9:10Speaker 3: care and whether or not you would be able to have,
- 9:14Speaker 3: you know, something like an insurance pay for those type
- 9:17Speaker 3: of things, I don't think would be the case. Again,
- 9:20Speaker 3: that's one of those things where you I think you'd
- 9:22Speaker 3: be paying out the nose for with the amount of credits.
- 9:26Speaker 3: You brought up the idea though too, because as I'd
- 9:30Speaker 3: been thinking about this, you know, I was thinking about
- 9:32Speaker 3: that Clone Wars, the Clone Wars movie right where they
- 9:35Speaker 3: you know, they're they're in the ship, they're flying away
- 9:39Speaker 3: from teth In and Rotea is sick and who we
- 9:45Speaker 3: just found out is going to be in Grogu and
- 9:48Speaker 3: the Mandalorian House. Was that.
- 9:51Speaker 1: I'm honestly thrilled about that. That is the coolest thing
- 9:54Speaker 1: because everybody, as they shared those headlines, seems to have
- 9:58Speaker 1: forgotten that Rada will have a since we saw Clone,
- 10:02Speaker 1: so he's going to be a full.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Sized hut, y'all seriously, and but what what is? What
- 10:09Speaker 3: is Ahsoka do? She finds a holographic uh doctor droid
- 10:14Speaker 3: on this ship, which makes sense that ships will be
- 10:16Speaker 3: installed with this kind of thing so they could diagnose patients.
- 10:22Speaker 3: And then of course there seems to be some sort
- 10:24Speaker 3: of almost like matter replicator or something that it creates
- 10:28Speaker 3: the medicine that is needed, you know, And so that's
- 10:32Speaker 3: a possibility. Now maybe not necessarily like that, but maybe
- 10:35Speaker 3: it's something to which when you load the medical droid hologram,
- 10:41Speaker 3: it also loads with a synthesizer of you know, base
- 10:46Speaker 3: medications for something, you know, so you can create those kind.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Of basically like a basically like a compounding pharmacy that's
- 10:54Speaker 1: just inside the ship. It's like it, you know, forgive
- 10:56Speaker 1: me for saying this, but it's like a coke freestyle
- 10:58Speaker 1: machine for medications.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Right.
- 11:00Speaker 1: You're like, Okay, what combination of antibiotic and analgesic and
- 11:05Speaker 1: anti inflammatory do I need in order for this medication
- 11:08Speaker 1: to work? And it has enough of the base materials
- 11:11Speaker 1: in it that you can punch in the things and
- 11:13Speaker 1: it just mixes it for you the way you would
- 11:15Speaker 1: go to a compounding pharmacy and ask for you know,
- 11:18Speaker 1: you know, I need this medication, but I'm not going
- 11:20Speaker 1: to buy the name brand. I need you to put
- 11:22Speaker 1: this medication together for me out of the compounds. They
- 11:24Speaker 1: can do that. Now. We have people that can do
- 11:27Speaker 1: that now, and so yeah, that's it. I'd forgotten about
- 11:32Speaker 1: that aspect of it, about it being sort of like
- 11:35Speaker 1: just something that ships come equipped with is even if
- 11:37Speaker 1: you don't have a real droid, you have a holographic
- 11:40Speaker 1: droid and then those base materials on there, because that
- 11:42Speaker 1: would be I think you've hit on something there. I
- 11:45Speaker 1: forgot about that that would be sort of a necessity
- 11:49Speaker 1: in a lot of ways. Now obviously Han doesn't have one,
- 11:52Speaker 1: so that becomes an add on that you need.
- 11:56Speaker 3: The interesting thing think about this though, you know when
- 11:59Speaker 3: Luke has his hand cut off, right, there is the
- 12:03Speaker 3: stabilization unit that is on his hand, so she the
- 12:07Speaker 3: Falcon does have some sort of medical equipment there. It's
- 12:14Speaker 3: just not as sophisticated as what we saw in the
- 12:16Speaker 3: Twilight there in the Clone Wars movie, which also makes
- 12:19Speaker 3: sense even though that was an old ship. It's in
- 12:21Speaker 3: the Republic era and I you know, the Republic era
- 12:26Speaker 3: was much more known for having better ships, you know more,
- 12:32Speaker 3: even even older ships seem to be more up to
- 12:36Speaker 3: date with with those kind of things. One of the
- 12:39Speaker 3: things you mentioned, though, and this is a fascinating question
- 12:42Speaker 3: I think comes up it seems to me, is that
- 12:44Speaker 3: droid care would be kind of the standard for your
- 12:49Speaker 3: basic Like, if you're going to you know, the urgent care,
- 12:53Speaker 3: you get a droid, right, But if you go to
- 12:56Speaker 3: the really fancy plants again like Aldron, you know before
- 12:59Speaker 3: it experienced a bad Tuesday, that that you would have
- 13:05Speaker 3: an actual being, and so that that would be The
- 13:11Speaker 3: other difference in here is that if you were on
- 13:14Speaker 3: a planet that that had actual medical professionals that were
- 13:20Speaker 3: organic and not just a droid, I mean that they
- 13:24Speaker 3: and and and again, you may have droids that just
- 13:28Speaker 3: did routine things, but that the more that you you needed,
- 13:33Speaker 3: or the if you're willing to pay more, you could
- 13:38Speaker 3: be uh, you know, cared for by an actual organic being.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Well, and this is where Okay, I'm not meaning to
- 13:47Speaker 1: get controversial in any sense, but I'm saying, even if
- 13:52Speaker 1: we want to go in and we want to key
- 13:54Speaker 1: off of one single line of dialogue about Alderan. In
- 13:57Speaker 1: the original Star Wars, there is a she says, Alduron
- 14:03Speaker 1: is peaceful. We have no weapons, so Aldron's economy doesn't
- 14:08Speaker 1: take building a giant war machine into account. So I
- 14:11Speaker 1: would argue it would make sense for Alduran to have
- 14:15Speaker 1: the resources necessary for there to be universal medical care
- 14:18Speaker 1: because they don't have a military. But the problem is,
- 14:21Speaker 1: the Empire probably doesn't have any sort of like good
- 14:27Speaker 1: medical care because they are spending everything on a military.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Because you know, if you have a certain number of funds,
- 14:34Speaker 1: certain type of resources. The Empire's obviously pushed all chips
- 14:39Speaker 1: in on the military side, so they I would argue
- 14:42Speaker 1: the Empire might have found itself just in a funding
- 14:45Speaker 1: deficit where only the really well connected or the really
- 14:50Speaker 1: wealthy planets have decent medical care, and so you would
- 14:54Speaker 1: get just the most baseline stuff in the Empire.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Well, I mean, you think it's like know, as you
- 15:00Speaker 3: were talking about in it, uh and or in that way.
- 15:04Speaker 3: It was also making me think about the idea of
- 15:08Speaker 3: you know, Naboo is probably a planet like that as well.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Oh yeah, sure, but you know, uh, this tangent but
- 15:16Speaker 3: you know, it's like, I don't know if money really
- 15:18Speaker 3: means anything in the empire when there's an emperor who
- 15:23Speaker 3: you know is strip mining planets and and you know,
- 15:27Speaker 3: doing whatever he wants, and so therefore the economy of
- 15:30Speaker 3: the empire is probably a little skewed just because of
- 15:33Speaker 3: that whole idea. But that's that's a whole suspect for
- 15:39Speaker 3: maybe another that is podcast.
- 15:40Speaker 1: So yeah, I think I think we do need to
- 15:43Speaker 1: talk about the economic policies of the policy the empire. Well,
- 15:47Speaker 1: I mean because eventually, because eventually, when you look at
- 15:50Speaker 1: an evil empire sort of thing, yes, you have sort
- 15:52Speaker 1: of what what caused the Soviet Union to fall was
- 15:56Speaker 1: they overs out of my brain. It's the same thing
- 16:00Speaker 1: that caused the Klingons to collapse, right over too many
- 16:06Speaker 1: resources put in the military. Oh my gosh. Oh wow. Yeah.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Maybe, so the empire was going to fall at anyway.
- 16:14Speaker 3: It was just a matter of time, argue Paul.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Well, I mean, okay, let's keep going down the tangent.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Why not. It's our show. We can do what we
- 16:22Speaker 1: want to do. But the thing is, the emperor didn't
- 16:24Speaker 1: care about the empire as a concept. He cared about him, right,
- 16:30Speaker 1: and if the empire fell, well, he had a secret
- 16:33Speaker 1: planet full of people making star destroyers for him anyway
- 16:38Speaker 1: at no cost a parent.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Well, I mean, okay, think of exit. You know, you
- 16:41Speaker 3: could take this all the way to our conversations we've
- 16:45Speaker 3: had about Mount Tantis.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Right.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Can you imagine the cost to create that facility and
- 16:51Speaker 3: the Emperor is doing that all under the rug. You know,
- 16:54Speaker 3: these are all secret, hidden projects that are getting put
- 16:58Speaker 3: into big pork barrels spending for the Empire. Right, nobody
- 17:03Speaker 3: knows this is happening and where the money's coming from.
- 17:05Speaker 3: And this is what makes got to come back to it.
- 17:07Speaker 3: This is what makes the Darth Plagis book so fascinating
- 17:09Speaker 3: because we learn where Plagis is now left all of
- 17:17Speaker 3: these resources to Palpatine to be able to use on
- 17:21Speaker 3: the side that he doesn't even have to let the
- 17:25Speaker 3: Empire and the Imperial Senate know about in the first place. So,
- 17:30Speaker 3: you know, I mean, just this is why again we
- 17:33Speaker 3: need that to be a series.
- 17:35Speaker 1: And to bring it back to the whole medical thing.
- 17:38Speaker 1: You have doctor Hemlock, and Hemlock, I would argue, isn't
- 17:44Speaker 1: even getting paid for what he's doing. He just enjoys
- 17:47Speaker 1: it so much that he doesn't care exactly just feed
- 17:50Speaker 1: him and give him a place to sleep, and he
- 17:52Speaker 1: will torture things for fun. Yes, man, I want you know,
- 17:57Speaker 1: I'm going to make a plea right here on the airwaves.
- 18:01Speaker 1: I need somebody to write a book, have an animated series,
- 18:04Speaker 1: have anything that brings in some early story for Hemlock.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I gotta know more about this guy. I love that
- 18:11Speaker 1: character so much. That and the thing is, the evil
- 18:14Speaker 1: doctor is the only type of doctor in the Empire,
- 18:16Speaker 1: I would argue. But even while we're just sort of
- 18:20Speaker 1: like bringing it to a close, right we talk about like, oh, well,
- 18:23Speaker 1: you know, you'd have human doctors doing this and robot
- 18:26Speaker 1: doctors doing that. But then that slots right into the
- 18:29Speaker 1: Emperor and the Empire, because what is the one thing
- 18:32Speaker 1: you can guarantee from a droid that's given limited programming
- 18:36Speaker 1: is silence. You can do whatever you want to somebody
- 18:41Speaker 1: or with somebody, and you never have to worry about
- 18:44Speaker 1: the droid doctor saying nothing to nobody. Well especially that
- 18:48Speaker 1: would be yeah.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Since we have learned droid rules from Skeleton Crew, where
- 18:54Speaker 3: if you command a droid and you're their owner to
- 18:58Speaker 3: tell a lie, they will tell a lie.
- 19:01Speaker 1: So which doesn't that violate Asimov's some law of robotics.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Or something like that. Yeah, I mean that process.
- 19:12Speaker 1: But the thing is, I consider that more realistic because
- 19:14Speaker 1: I think that because the thing is everybody forgets Asimov's
- 19:17Speaker 1: law of robotics. Is like he was actually giving a
- 19:19Speaker 1: prescriptive bit of advice to everybody to be like, if
- 19:22Speaker 1: you don't put these rules in, that's going to be
- 19:24Speaker 1: an issue. And I would agree with with with mister
- 19:27Speaker 1: Asimov about that one. So the thing is, this is
- 19:31Speaker 1: another one of those topics where it's so huge and
- 19:34Speaker 1: it's so fascinating and I think we've we've just like
- 19:36Speaker 1: peeled the surface on this, but I don't think there's
- 19:39Speaker 1: any way we can get to all of it in
- 19:42Speaker 1: like a single episode. So, like, what I want to
- 19:44Speaker 1: ask to sort of like close this part one of
- 19:47Speaker 1: the discussion. I'll come back to it at some point
- 19:48Speaker 1: in the future after we do a little more. What
- 19:50Speaker 1: do you think would be core reading or viewing in
- 19:55Speaker 1: the Star Wars? Like, is there anything where you would
- 19:57Speaker 1: be like, you know, for this they used to say
- 20:00Speaker 1: at the end of after school specials to learn more
- 20:02Speaker 1: about something, go to your local library. Where would you
- 20:06Speaker 1: point somebody for like reading about giving some more insight
- 20:11Speaker 1: on where you're coming from with this sort of medical discussion.
- 20:14Speaker 1: You know.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Interesting, there's the EU books MedStar where Barris Offei was
- 20:21Speaker 3: a Jedi healer. Of course, we actually see Jedi healer
- 20:26Speaker 3: in voices from the Clone Wars. We also see you know,
- 20:31Speaker 3: clone medical technology throughout the series with the kemon Owans,
- 20:35Speaker 3: as well as the Republic hospital base. You know, you know,
- 20:41Speaker 3: I think we even talked about it.
- 20:43Speaker 2: It's right there.
- 20:44Speaker 3: And Empire strikes back as well episode three with the
- 20:50Speaker 3: birth of Darth Vader, you know, even the birth of
- 20:54Speaker 3: the twins well and beginning his head hand chopped off
- 20:58Speaker 3: in the second film, but.
- 21:01Speaker 1: We never see that one get attached exactly, like Luke.
- 21:03Speaker 1: We don't see it get attached exactly.
- 21:05Speaker 3: So, you know, I do think it's interesting because this
- 21:09Speaker 3: is kind of all over the Star Wars universe and
- 21:13Speaker 3: it does seem to be maybe closing out. One of
- 21:15Speaker 3: the things I would I would notice is that because
- 21:20Speaker 3: of droid technology, healthcare seems to be a thing that
- 21:24Speaker 3: which nobody really thinks about because they just have droids
- 21:29Speaker 3: at the baseline who basically are programmed to be able
- 21:34Speaker 3: to do this with the knowledge of you know, actual
- 21:38Speaker 3: human or actual beings who have been doctors, who have
- 21:43Speaker 3: then then programmed with all of the medical knowledge that
- 21:47Speaker 3: they need by you know, downloading it into their brains
- 21:49Speaker 3: with books and stuff and so which I think then,
- 21:54Speaker 3: like you were saying earlier, it makes the cost of
- 21:59Speaker 3: medicine and much lower in that sense, or at least
- 22:03Speaker 3: of going to see a droid doctor, because the only
- 22:07Speaker 3: cost then is downloading the information. And that's where you know,
- 22:13Speaker 3: it seems like planets could then afford to they would
- 22:19Speaker 3: have actual being doctors, but those being doctors are also
- 22:24Speaker 3: there to learn and to advance the science so that
- 22:28Speaker 3: they could write the material that goes into the droid programming,
- 22:32Speaker 3: so that you know, the rest of the populace, you
- 22:36Speaker 3: don't have to have as many doctors.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Then well, I mean, as you yes, but you touching
- 22:44Speaker 1: on that. Just to close it out, you would need
- 22:47Speaker 1: to make sure you still have sentient organic doctors working
- 22:54Speaker 1: because as people are finally recognizing with all of the
- 23:01Speaker 1: open AI stuff, there is a data plateau you hit
- 23:05Speaker 1: if you don't have enough fresh new thought being pumped
- 23:10Speaker 1: into it right exactly, once the machine can only reference itself,
- 23:14Speaker 1: it degrades you know, it's sort of it's almost an
- 23:17Speaker 1: entropy effect, yes, but at the very least you hit
- 23:20Speaker 1: a data plateau and innovation ceases. And that's the danger
- 23:24Speaker 1: of any system where you don't have constantly new and
- 23:28Speaker 1: innovative thinking. That's the whole reason that you get clones
- 23:31Speaker 1: in the first place. Clones can think creatively. Droids cannot
- 23:35Speaker 1: DROI can only think within a certain you know, parameter.
- 23:39Speaker 3: The last thing that anybody wants is generative healthcare, generative
- 23:45Speaker 3: AI healthcare, because well, you know, I think.
- 23:49Speaker 1: You're going to get it either way. But you know,
- 23:51Speaker 1: what people can get from you online is further insights
- 23:55Speaker 1: on the healthcare of the Star Wars galaxy. So where
- 23:57Speaker 1: can they find you out there, Matt.
- 23:58Speaker 3: Well, you can find me all over or social media
- 24:00Speaker 3: under the name Matt Rushing zero two. Here in the
- 24:02Speaker 3: network you'll find me doing owl Post with Drea Kaufman,
- 24:05Speaker 3: which is a completed show about every single chapter of
- 24:08Speaker 3: the Harry Potter series. And then I'm over on the
- 24:10Speaker 3: TFM network you'll find me doing The six oh two Club,
- 24:14Speaker 3: which is a show about all of the fandoms that
- 24:16Speaker 3: we love, not just one. Of course, John is a
- 24:19Speaker 3: frequent guest over there and a lot of star Trek
- 24:22Speaker 3: talk I do on other podcasts. But John, if people
- 24:25Speaker 3: want to see what you are doing as you ramp
- 24:28Speaker 3: up to our celebration of Life Day, where can people
- 24:31Speaker 3: find you?
- 24:32Speaker 1: Well, gosh, you can find me with all of my
- 24:34Speaker 1: specific movies that I love to watch as I get
- 24:37Speaker 1: ready for Life Day out there on social media as
- 24:40Speaker 1: Kessel Junkie. And you can also.
- 24:42Speaker 3: John, put the helmet away for the last time. Put
- 24:45Speaker 3: the helmet away.
- 24:46Speaker 1: No, it's it is a life Day tradition, and I'll
- 24:50Speaker 1: be good and gosh darned and in the cold ground
- 24:52Speaker 1: before you get rid of my Life Day traditions, my friend. Okay,
- 24:56Speaker 1: I'm enough of this. Enough of this. The helmet stays.
- 25:00Speaker 1: You can also find me on a show right here
- 25:01Speaker 1: on the network called house Lights where we talk about
- 25:04Speaker 1: movies and we don't use helmets, but maybe in some
- 25:08Speaker 1: point in the future we will. But Jedi Master Rushing,
- 25:11Speaker 1: I think that this is all this talk of healthcare is.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Maybe want to go back and check my Jedi deductible.
- 25:16Speaker 1: So I think it's time to close these negotiations, John negotiations.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Join the Revolution, Join the Nerd Party.
