- 0:00Hello, welcome back to NRA and the Retail Podcast Interviews
- 0:05with Actually, a brand that I've wanted to interview for a long
- 0:08time. I'm joined by Alice's Head of
- 0:11Strategy. Market strategy?
- 0:13Market strategy. That was only the 4th time that
- 0:16I've tried to do that. But so Alex, so those who don't
- 0:20know because you, you are a North American place.
- 0:23Yeah. And in some really cool grocers
- 0:25like Wegmans, who Rezar, well, the pets, everything.
- 0:28I think they're just amazing. It's like, well, you imagine the
- 0:32future of grocery to be all around discovery.
- 0:36In my mind, there's like, that's where a grocery felt anyway,
- 0:39going off topic. So tell me about Infragard, tell
- 0:42me about what you do Instagram, and let's take it from there.
- 0:45In terms of the history lesson, where else where we all started
- 0:48off when we started working with our advertisers is our app.
- 0:52And so again, when you think about it advertisers objectives,
- 0:55what they're really trying to do is find their consumer that
- 0:58actually likes their products and move products off the
- 1:00shelves. And so it was very interesting
- 1:03for advertisers to work with us and invest in the Instacart ad
- 1:06network because what you're basically essentially able to do
- 1:08is log into the ad platform and say, look, I have some business
- 1:12objectives that want to do. I want to either find new
- 1:14customers or I want to grow my basket sizes or move more sales.
- 1:18And we're able to do that through different ad formats
- 1:20across our network. And so that's historically has
- 1:22always been on our marketplace. Where we've taken it the last
- 1:26few years is actually through our solutions because we're
- 1:29constantly part of the retailers to think about how do we drive
- 1:32digital transformation in your stores.
- 1:34Yeah, well, every time we do that, we actually create new
- 1:36advertising opportunities. Wow.
- 1:38And so the last few years we've been partnering with our
- 1:40retailers to create their own media channels.
- 1:42And so you'll hear us talk a lot about Carrot ads, which is our
- 1:47retailers option to create their own retail media network.
- 1:52Control was what? Why would I do that?
- 1:54Profitability, right? Well, so I can charge more of a
- 1:57premium for my network. So, yeah, So basically, I think
- 2:01that if you look at the industry today, yeah, most of what the
- 2:04retailers are talking about is, look, is it really worth it for
- 2:07me to actually spend the time and invest in creating a retail
- 2:09media network? It seems like it's limited to
- 2:11only the big players because at the end of the day and you don't
- 2:14have the audience, then will the advertiser really come, right.
- 2:18And So what we're able to do is actually none of the playing
- 2:21field a little bit for both the the retailers, but also allow
- 2:25our advertisers to reach all different channels to meet new
- 2:27audiences. And So what we're doing is that
- 2:31same network that our 5500 grammes is already investing in.
- 2:34We're extending all those ad formats into our retailers own
- 2:37channels. Yeah.
- 2:38And did you get any numbers on the amount of cross sell
- 2:41conversion up? So is that like something you
- 2:44track or can the retainer track though?
- 2:46Absolutely. I think that's.
- 2:48Absolutely. A lot of people.
- 2:50I think, I think what we're so excited about is that, look,
- 2:52it's not like advertising is new to retailers.
- 2:55They've been doing it for me just.
- 2:57But what's always been challenging from that
- 3:00relationship is advertisers saying, look, I have to go to my
- 3:02CFO, is this campaign working? And often traditional print or
- 3:07traditional way, the advertising is really tough to measure,
- 3:10incrementality. And so when you do a digital
- 3:13retail, media network of this, you could get measurement very
- 3:16quickly, almost real time. You're able to understand who's
- 3:19buying your products and you'll reach your consumers a lot
- 3:21better. You could target them.
- 3:22And so yeah, absolutely. No, fantastic.
- 3:25Wait, what's your vision of the future?
- 3:27Actually, 2 two final questions from being here for the last
- 3:30three days. What's been the one question
- 3:32when people come to you? What?
- 3:34What's the number one thing at top of mind for them?
- 3:36And then give me sort of like a a vision of the future.
- 3:40Yeah, I often get asked, is it really worth it for me to spend
- 3:43my dollars in my resources to build a retail media network,
- 3:46Right. And I think the biggest thing
- 3:48that we could tell them is yes, if you get through the cold
- 3:51start problem, meaning as long as you're able to get the
- 3:55advertisers to participate and that's what really we're we're
- 3:57here to do with helping our progress, helping source demand
- 4:00for them be part of our network And so they're able to actually
- 4:03get over that objection there. So we're excited about that.
- 4:06And your second question is about vision.
- 4:09Look, I think that groceries are really exciting space right now.
- 4:12And really the number one reason for that is because even though
- 4:15it's an age-old practise getting your groceries, what's unique
- 4:19about groceries that you have multiple touch points with your
- 4:21customer in a week. Compare that to other
- 4:24industries, you may see them three times a year, 6 * a year.
- 4:28Yeah. Groceries you can see up to two
- 4:29to three times a week. Yeah.
- 4:31So think actually from an advertiser perspective, think
- 4:33about how much you know about your customer that is so
- 4:36fantastic from advertisers lens. And so I think what retailers
- 4:40really have in their hands is a pool of data in a pool of
- 4:44opportunity to partner with the advertisers and to really help
- 4:47monetize their surfaces who Dr profitability.
- 4:50Alice absolutely wonderful. Thank.
- 4:52You so much. Thank you so much.
