- 0:07One welcome into another edition of the Justin Tom Podcast,
- 0:11Justin, and you're with me like always, my guest Will.
- 0:15Brother, how you doing doing? Pretty good, pretty good.
- 0:18I'm excited now for football season.
- 0:21And you see, I got my alternative background.
- 0:23The green, the beautiful purple. Screen I'm excited about where
- 0:28this theme is can go. Yes.
- 0:33I don't think we're going anywhere, but after October 26th
- 0:37the outlook of this season got a lot better.
- 0:39We could go from a six win season to possibly A87 or eight
- 0:45win season. It depends.
- 0:48You know what different to make when you have alignment.
- 0:50You know has been a story about LSU the last couple week and a
- 0:54half. You know this has been a when
- 0:57you say a train wreck, laughing stock, fill in the blank.
- 1:00That's what it's been the last 10 days or so.
- 1:03Yeah, I agree with that. Yeah, thin one all happens from
- 1:08the top of the state actually. That later.
- 1:12Go over with this. Top this time 1.
- 1:16So as everybody knows, LSU got thoroughly embarrassed on
- 1:20October 25th. October 26th Brian Kelly gets a
- 1:25pink slipper, his birthday present.
- 1:27Surprise. Surprise.
- 1:29Well, as you're fired, get out. The Joe Sloan gets fired the
- 1:32next day. I don't know why that dude
- 1:34wasn't cleaning out his office as soon as Brian Kelly got
- 1:36fired. You've been calling.
- 1:37You've been calling that for a month and 1/2.
- 1:39He should have known he was going to be the next one to go.
- 1:42He was probably supposed to be the first one to go.
- 1:45Here's where it gets ugly, folks.
- 1:47On October 29th, the great Governor Dipshit of Louisiana
- 1:52slams watered, sticking his nose in in places it shouldn't
- 1:56belong. It doesn't belong.
- 1:59And he keeps insisting that the taxpayers are going to pay for
- 2:03Brian Kelly's buyout. And he's insisting because he
- 2:07hasn't read Skip Bertman's book. When the taxpayers fit the bill
- 2:11for the renovations, this stadium and everything that goes
- 2:15on with the athletic department. Moron.
- 2:18You're right. The taxpayers do, but only a
- 2:20select group because we pay for season tickets and we pay the
- 2:24season tickets and then we pay the donation fund or whatever
- 2:28that you want to call it. That's right.
- 2:32Anyway, that moron on October 29th slams Woodard.
- 2:35I'm pretty sure October fired. I mean, October 30th, Woodard
- 2:39gets fired. No surprise there.
- 2:41The governor is a moron. He keeps insisting on stuff, but
- 2:44he's technically right. OK, he's technically right.
- 2:47Taxpayers will fit some sort of bill for Brian I out.
- 2:52And that's just because the prices of boxed condos are about
- 2:55to go up again. I mean, you go to Cannes, your
- 2:58boxed combo's about to go up because we got to pay for that
- 3:01buyout somehow. Hey, Candy Acts.
- 3:04Whatever you call it, brother. Yeah, so then we this week and
- 3:11yesterday, what is that dude's last name?
- 3:13Wade Rouse. Wade Rouse.
- 3:16Wade, Rouse, Ruth, whatever you want to call him, he's the new
- 3:20president of LSU. I probably should learn how to
- 3:22say his name. Not going to lie, though, when I
- 3:24saw his last name and how it was spelled, I only read it with 1S
- 3:27and I really thought he owned Rouses because it would make
- 3:30sense. Because Governor Landry would
- 3:32do. LSU promotes Verge as the next
- 3:36AGI. Kind of like it, I'm not going
- 3:38to lie. Yeah, we, I definitely like to
- 3:41hire like we talked about, you know, just like I was saying
- 3:45before, you know, we've been the talk of the, the nation and for
- 3:51the wrong reason the last week and a half.
- 3:54And you know, we always talk about, you know, just any aspect
- 3:57of life, talk about foundation, how it's important, especially
- 4:01like with companies and organizations, we it has to
- 4:04start at the top. I remember us going back last
- 4:06this past summer. You know, we spent all summer
- 4:09weeks reviewing us Skip Berman's book, Well, the book about Skip
- 4:11Berman. You know, how he beat LSU, like
- 4:14how he make strategic decisions, calculated moves to get to get
- 4:18the basement program to where it is today.
- 4:20And even the athletic program is old.
- 4:22Like when you have you have a strong leader and you have to
- 4:26have the key of components around him, above him that's all
- 4:30aligned. He did not have that really.
- 4:34And it was really exposed in a terrible way because you have
- 4:36people who technically shouldn't be super involved in this stuff,
- 4:41regardless of their title. They want to have.
- 4:44They want to stick their nose in there like you said.
- 4:46Yeah, and he is at least if you're going to stick your nose
- 4:50in it, do a little bit of research.
- 4:52That's right. Actually, when you you put on
- 4:55the committee coming out and saying I don't know what that
- 4:58man is talking about. The taxpayers have never and
- 5:02will never put the bill for LSU coach.
- 5:05You know, and I mean, I thought it was AI, but apparently they
- 5:10came out and they had that press conference for Scott getting
- 5:13fired and they asked Kim Mulkey's assistant why she
- 5:16wasn't there. And he says she's heartbroken.
- 5:19But I kind of verge of been there.
- 5:23I mean, I like it. I don't like how it happened.
- 5:27But I mean, at least he's there and he's was on that Bertman
- 5:31team that Scott was on and is like he said we were texting
- 5:34when we were texting when it first happened.
- 5:36People forget how bad Joe Lieber was.
- 5:39Man, because like, you know, I you know, I was telling you one
- 5:42of my Co workers, we talked about this quite a bit.
- 5:45You know, we talked about, you know, just I brought up a lever
- 5:49this, you know, it's it's amazing how people forget, they
- 5:54forget to remember where they once were.
- 5:57So it just I remember because during our Doliba was in in
- 6:00office when we were during our college years and it was just,
- 6:05it was that was just not good. So.
- 6:08Or I will say this, OK, people credit Scott Woodard for the
- 6:122019 national championship in football.
- 6:18He was the sitting AD for that year, but that wasn't his coach.
- 6:24We didn't win anything else, but Joe Oliva hired Edo and got us
- 6:28that great season in 2019. Yeah, it's just.
- 6:31I was Scott Woodard. You know, like.
- 6:32First year as AD. Yeah, just like and just really
- 6:35to piggyback off, you know, just like you said what you were
- 6:39saying, like you just based on what how how things happen with
- 6:42the governor, not surprised how he's gone.
- 6:45I just, I thought it was just too hasty of a move.
- 6:47It was like petty by leadership, but I mean like, you know, when
- 6:51you have some and you shouldn't flex your I understand you want
- 6:55to operate your power. I don't mind people having
- 6:57power. Don't abuse it.
- 6:59So just you just be and like if you, like you said, if you're
- 7:02going to be more, if you're going to use your leverage, at
- 7:06least be more tactful, meet more calculated behind the scenes,
- 7:10not in The Dirty way, not in The Dirty way, but just understand
- 7:14you have this platform, you're responsible for so much.
- 7:19And we are, we are a global renowned university.
- 7:22We have historically known and successful programs.
- 7:27They're very popular, even more so in the last few years with
- 7:30the championships. So will you have this extra
- 7:34attention? You have to be very calculated
- 7:37on how you respond to things, how you make decisions, because
- 7:40it affects everything under you and it shifts the dynamics about
- 7:45you, the perception around you. Yeah, like, you mean you've got
- 7:49to be, you got to look at this Jeff Landry and think this is a
- 7:52really bad look. Feel like he's running off the
- 7:55thing of ever since he cried and fell with that live tiger on the
- 7:59field last year at the PAMMA game working on what is it?
- 8:03There's no such thing as bad publicity.
- 8:05Yes there is. You say some right things, you
- 8:09know, paying these coaches and Scott being involved in the two
- 8:12highest files in college football history.
- 8:15But you can't keep running your mouth by something you have no
- 8:18business in and say we're going to give these coaches an
- 8:21incentive based contract. No high end College Football
- 8:25Playoff coach or high end coach that can that they're going to
- 8:29throw millions of dollars out at another school is going to come
- 8:33to hell issue with an incentive based contract solely on how
- 8:37their team performs because they're getting paid millions of
- 8:40dollars at other schools. That's it.
- 8:44I mean, you got to be smarter, you know?
- 8:46Yeah, you see, like you know how the candidate dropped off
- 8:51because when all with all the upheaval, you know, at the with
- 8:54the with the the organization, with the school.
- 8:57So like and that's why I noted in the notes, you know, just
- 9:00because their lack of the full time AD, you know, they got
- 9:03pushed back from Canada just like Dan Landing, like they put
- 9:06you bowed out of it and as if he was even in it to begin with.
- 9:09But this is what happens. We don't have alignment at the
- 9:12top because my job itself is already difficult.
- 9:17Yes, I have this money, yes, I have resources, but other teams,
- 9:21other programs are historically successful in football as well
- 9:23or this whatever sport that you coach.
- 9:26So I need the backing of my bosses and you can leave the
- 9:29rest up to me. But when you when you don't have
- 9:33that, that's why I was so big when when the president, you
- 9:36know, dropped the inner attack for Virge Osbury.
- 9:40So OK, so we got the president now we got the we got the AD.
- 9:44Now we go from there. Now we get the coach all
- 9:46aligned. Oh yeah, I was just pulling up
- 9:49the this. WBRZ posted an e-mail from Brian
- 9:54Kelly to Scott Woodard on Sunday, October 26th at 5:45 PM.
- 10:03Scotting team Sending a quick note to confirm the following my
- 10:07to confirm that following my termination during our meeting
- 10:11today, I will return all the LSU materials in my possession is
- 10:15required by my contract. Let me know if it's better for
- 10:18me to clean up my office or if you would prefer to pack
- 10:21everything up and send it to me. I assume HR will touch base to
- 10:26base regarding any other housekeeping matters out there,
- 10:29but let me know if you you need anything else from me in the
- 10:32meantime. As we discussed in our meeting,
- 10:35I am open to your desire to reach a settlement of what's
- 10:39owed to me under the contract, although it would have to make
- 10:43sense financially. Despite your decision to let me
- 10:46go today, I am grateful to have the had the opportunity to lead
- 10:51this program over the last four years and wish you the all the
- 10:54best going forward. Best Brian feel like in that you
- 10:59added and run your program into the ground.
- 11:02I mean there's nobody on planet earth if you would unexpectedly
- 11:06fired who can get a moving crew and move your stuff.
- 11:10Where are you moving your stuff? Brian?
- 11:14Where you going? DK you just got fired.
- 11:17How is movers already moving you out?
- 11:18I don't understand it. Like I said, a lot.
- 11:22You're right. We've been on that Matthew show
- 11:25with Governor Landry. We've been, I haven't been
- 11:31keeping up with the coaches. Search, it's a lot, a lot of
- 11:34them, yeah, we can definitely get.
- 11:36To that, all I know is that Shaq, I guess he was trolling
- 11:39people that I heard that Nick Saban was in Baton Rouge, heard
- 11:47it through the Grapevine and Saban was in Baton Rouge, you
- 11:50know, and then Osbury said during the interview with
- 11:53Miskona, David and I talk every two to three weeks and he is not
- 11:59coming back to LSU. He's not coaching, you know, but
- 12:03he did say if he decides he wanted to coach, he would be the
- 12:07first one to go pick him up and bring him here.
- 12:10All right, I see that you put we've got our main targets for
- 12:15coaching. I mean, I don't see it making
- 12:17like Wayne Kiffin to come. I don't see it making sense for
- 12:21him to leave Ole Miss. Why is it up?
- 12:23Ole Miss has never won a championship.
- 12:25They claim, for God's sakes, they claim the SEC title that
- 12:29they didn't even appear in back when Eli was the quarterback.
- 12:34You go nine and three, you get A10 win season over there
- 12:38consistently. They'll bid you a statue.
- 12:39He keeps over there and he keeps winning.
- 12:41He keeps having ten win seasons and he keeps beating the shit
- 12:45out of Mississippi State every year.
- 12:47They will build that man a statue and name the field after
- 12:50him like he's Nick Saban. Vault, Hemingway, Kiffin
- 12:53Stadium. I can see him now.
- 12:56Name it after him. I mean, why would you leave
- 12:58that? Plus, you've got somebody like
- 13:01Edo, who's the scope of higher underneath you to tell you grow
- 13:05a pair and come to LSU and fight for a championship.
- 13:07They'll give you the money and the resources you need.
- 13:09We just got to get you over there and get it done.
- 13:12So it's they, they claimed 3 natties but like one of them
- 13:17were like I know the 195919601962, the 59 title was
- 13:22retroactively retroactively claimed.
- 13:24So offhand, I don't know who won that one because I know we won
- 13:28at 58. Yeah, Auburn.
- 13:30So yeah. I don't like how schools can
- 13:34claim these national championships.
- 13:36That's the big one, the biggest problem I've had for college
- 13:38sports for many years. Yeah, that's why, like in the
- 13:42playoff system now, I wish they would go more, but you know, But
- 13:47you know, drink a witch. Honestly, I'm not sold on him.
- 13:54Like I put like I'm putting those in there too.
- 13:57Like what he's done in Missouri, don't get me wrong, But I mean,
- 14:00there's context to it. I mean, you got the Baker
- 14:04connection and I think whoever you are coming in to coach, you
- 14:08need to keep him. And it's so defensive staff.
- 14:11I saw something. Let me pull this text up.
- 14:12I saw it because I think it was a text this week about Brian
- 14:17Kelly and hit the way he ran his team.
- 14:19He was on Instagram, can't find it.
- 14:21But somebody said, you know, with, you know, Brian Kelly.
- 14:28Oh, OK, here it is. It's it's a tweet.
- 14:30I was looking for something like that.
- 14:33Per LSU interim Frank Wilson, Blake Baker is asking for a more
- 14:38realistic look and practices in game like game like situations
- 14:43during practice since says that this will happen and Tuesday
- 14:48will be a physical practice, both giving both sides of the
- 14:51ball a true look at the inside the run.
- 14:56OK so you telling me in the tweet said.
- 14:58So you're telling me Ryan Kelly had our boys playing Patty cake
- 15:01and two hand touch football at practice during game week?
- 15:05I think. He wanted I want, I think he
- 15:07wanted to be fired. I think he wanted to be late,
- 15:09though. But you know, I, I don't know if
- 15:11Drinkowitz can come in. We get we it's a like Jacob has
- 15:16to said, you don't come to LSU for a job.
- 15:19You come to LSU because you love LSU.
- 15:22You have to bring that passion. You know that fire, I believe it
- 15:26was a it was a video for sure from the show.
- 15:29Jacob has to said, if you can't tell the God, bring in five guys
- 15:34and you can't tell which one has passion for this job, which one
- 15:37has passion to win, let him in. The thing, he'll do it for free.
- 15:42He won't even charge you a consultant.
- 15:44He'll do it for free and you'll come out with the best
- 15:46championship coach and the winning coach, you know.
- 15:49That's been like I'm like this when you talk about the passion,
- 15:52you know, that's been a big theme this whole season,
- 15:55especially, you know, this am I I never was a person that really
- 16:00gets like too deep and like is he ALSU guy?
- 16:04Is he from here? I like I can careless where
- 16:06you're from. No, because we had Nick Saban
- 16:09not from here or skip Berber's not from here, not granted, Let
- 16:11me be fair. Those are historic outliers, all
- 16:14time outliers. But but I think just yeah, go
- 16:19ahead. Jay Johnson's not from here.
- 16:22All he's done is delve. He I said it last podcast guy
- 16:27like Jay Johnson comes in, He delves deep into the culture of
- 16:30Louisiana. The man loves Louisiana.
- 16:33He loves the letters he plays, he coaches for and he gets the
- 16:39buy in from those players just from his passion.
- 16:41We need a guy from with passion. Every time I look at Drinkowicz
- 16:45I don't see passion and I don't know if that's just the a
- 16:49northern guy coaching at a university where he doesn't have
- 16:53100% buy in that they can win a championship with or what is
- 16:58going on. But he pulls in massive talent
- 17:02in Missouri every year. But the last time Missouri was
- 17:05relevant in this conference was when they first got here and
- 17:08they went back-to-back to back SEC championship games and won
- 17:13the East. Weren't they under Odom back
- 17:14then? So I wonder under what?
- 17:16Weren't they under Odom back when they did that?
- 17:18Think. Think.
- 17:19So let me see. Yeah.
- 17:22Barry Odom. Yeah.
- 17:22Barry Odom coach 16 to 21. Well, 16 to 19, yeah.
- 17:29And then? Yeah, I.
- 17:31Don't or and like, well, you said you said like like three
- 17:34straight like conference title game appearances.
- 17:37I don't know if it was three straight, but it was definitely
- 17:39two straight. It was back.
- 17:41It was, it might, it might have been.
- 17:45I've been Gary Pinkel because I mean back so because.
- 17:49It was back when I first came into the conference.
- 17:53Yeah, because like when Gary. Yeah.
- 17:55Gary Pinkel started coaching Missouri in 2001 and then mid
- 18:002000s. That's when they start to pick
- 18:02it up. And then like in 2000, because
- 18:05so Mizzou joined the confidence in 2012, 2013, yeah, 2013 they
- 18:12went 12 and two. In 2014 they went 11 and three.
- 18:16They won the Cotton Bowl and 13. They won the Central Bowls of
- 18:19Central Bowl at 14. Yeah, I don't like Dan Mullen on
- 18:22this list. I think he's the Jimbo Fisher of
- 18:24Florida. He did make Mississippi State a
- 18:28real competitor, but when he got to Florida, he just proved that
- 18:32he, I don't know what happened in Florida.
- 18:35I don't know if he just got too big or if it was karma because
- 18:38he what he did in Mississippi State, you know, or is Florida
- 18:42just doing job to begin with? Yeah, I feel like they said like
- 18:47he was just distracted. I guess you just say, I mean,
- 18:50because I mean, he was, he was turning out some real solid
- 18:53teams. I mean, it looks like it looks
- 18:57bad looking back on it because of what what's happened with
- 19:00Napier. But I know like this because I'm
- 19:03looking up UNLV stats. You know, offense, you know,
- 19:08they points per game, they averaged 37 points a game.
- 19:11That's 12th in the nation. They're top 25 in yards per
- 19:14game, points per play, number 9. And I get different conferences
- 19:18and whatnot, but obviously if you look at their defensive
- 19:22stats, they're, I mean, they're like in the bottom of the
- 19:25country, but. Think LSU.
- 19:28I guess we can get into this after let's just we'll get into
- 19:31this after. Let's finish with the coaching
- 19:33stuff and then we'll talk about that because it's got to do with
- 19:37playoff bowl. What do you think about John
- 19:40Sumrall? Obviously, you know, it's a
- 19:43young guy, well younger guy. So I think obviously he has some
- 19:47years on him to coach. I was like what he's done at
- 19:50Tulane, you know, really just unbelievably respectable program
- 19:54considering their their tier of competition.
- 19:57You know, you have a stain winner obviously in state.
- 19:59So I know that's going to something like that.
- 20:01Like him. He will win the the the
- 20:04introductory press conference. He will win the fan base, at
- 20:07least initially. Yeah, so I'll.
- 20:12Look up his coaching record. OK is coaching record as of
- 20:18early November 2025. He is 38 and 11 in the two teams
- 20:24he's poked and he led Troy to two Sunbelt Conference
- 20:28championships in 22 and 23. He according to this, he was 23
- 20:34and 4 at Troy the two seasons he was there, 22 and 23.
- 20:39He was 23 and 4 at Troy means he had to beat some SEC caliber
- 20:44opponents. I was just going to bring up
- 20:46because like saying no toy's been been, you know, a obsessed
- 20:51player, you know, you know, Goliaths and like the last
- 20:55number number of years as well. You know, going back to this
- 20:59year, earlier this year with Clemson.
- 21:00I know that they've fallen off, but you know, they they had
- 21:03Clemson on the ropes at Troy, you know, but this but that's
- 21:08like the foundation with when you have like good coaching and
- 21:11you know, they make do, you know, like he helped lay the
- 21:14foundation moving forward for the next guy.
- 21:17But then you look at what he did at Troy, look at what he did
- 21:20with the Tulane recently, like so I feel like he would win.
- 21:25I don't know. I wasn't even my first choice,
- 21:27but I get like, I get the, you know, support behind his name.
- 21:33Yeah, let you know you can win at Troy, then you can pretty
- 21:37much win anyway. I don't know too much against
- 21:40about any. What is it, Dillingham?
- 21:43Dillingham yeah, you know, obviously they made it to the
- 21:49playoffs. Arizona State made it to the
- 21:51playoffs last year, almost pulled off upset against Texas.
- 21:55But so obviously he's built something very steady day
- 21:57because the Arizona State was, you know, they were in they were
- 22:01a mess for a little bit. So and you know, I put a note
- 22:05and I was going to say like, you know, you know, because you
- 22:08know, Jay Johnson came from Arizona.
- 22:11Not to say they didn't go have apples to apples, of course, but
- 22:14I think that's interesting. Yeah, I can see it.
- 22:16I can see it. Whatever we get is going to have
- 22:19to have passion. I mean, Frank Wilson's on this
- 22:21list. He has passion, but I don't know
- 22:24if he wants the head coaching job.
- 22:26I mean, some, some some guys don't want it.
- 22:28I mean, like I said, that's that'll be up to him.
- 22:30I know like you have a chance as the interim tag the last month
- 22:33of the season. You know, same thing with Kelvin
- 22:35Shepard. You know, obviously, you know,
- 22:37great won a championship with the Tigers line back in his
- 22:40freshman year. You know, big reason why those
- 22:44defenses were steady in that Les Miles era.
- 22:46And then obviously he's been a coach, you know, position coach
- 22:50in the NFL with the Lions right now.
- 22:52He's really, really built up, built up respecter in the
- 22:55league. And of course, you know, he has
- 22:57to resume with the Tigers. So I would say that would be a
- 23:00massive hire because you know guys, former players, they're
- 23:04generally passionate about their programs.
- 23:08So it's like the thing with the Honey Badger, though, he's been
- 23:11a position coach. Not that the Honey Badger has
- 23:13ever coached been a position coach, but can he handle head
- 23:17coach? Right.
- 23:18That's something we got to look into.
- 23:20But who knows, this coaching search might come out and it
- 23:23might come from a guy. They might get a guy from out of
- 23:25left field like they did with Brian Kelly.
- 23:28Because I mean, I had no money on Brian Kelly bringing the
- 23:31coach when they announced him. Yeah, like when we talked about
- 23:36previously, you know, that was a big shocker to me that they were
- 23:41able to bring him down here. Like, so of course, it didn't
- 23:44work out ultimately, but but, you know, my thing is, you know,
- 23:50going back to Verge real quick, you know, this is a very big
- 23:53opportunity for him. I know, like you said earlier,
- 23:56just not the ideal circumstance, not the most smoothness of
- 24:00transitions, but you know, change, change does happen
- 24:04quickly. And I figure for, you know, just
- 24:07giving his track record with the university, both as a player,
- 24:10you know, has worked his way up, you know, seeing success.
- 24:13Obviously he's a different seat, but I know this is a safe hire
- 24:20given like his resume, given his connection to the school, you
- 24:23know, so like like I'm, I'm supporting him fully and
- 24:27hopefully it works out for his sake.
- 24:30Yeah. All right, so let's jump on into
- 24:35this college football first playoff, brother.
- 24:39Anybody jumps out at you? You know, I just I cannot get
- 24:43past the fact that Indiana of all schools is in a is in a
- 24:47contending conversation in the sport of football.
- 24:50A school that has known historically they built their
- 24:53legacy in basketball, men's basketball legendary coach Bob
- 24:56Knight when the multiple national championship.
- 24:58They had the undefeated season back in the 70s and they said
- 25:02like their team the following year, the team before that was
- 25:04better than the undefeated team. So it was one of those years,
- 25:08but I just never thought I'd seen a day.
- 25:10I thought it was like a blimp in the radar.
- 25:12Last year, I said, listen, they're still a basketball
- 25:15school, play a Wii schedule. They get showed up by Ohio
- 25:18State. So I mean, I give them credit.
- 25:21I know like, they strategically schedule away.
- 25:24But I said they get like a big win.
- 25:27You know, I could change my tune.
- 25:28Yeah, one team I'm surprised that made it all crawled all the
- 25:32way back from Jeff's Pell, Texas.
- 25:36Oh, man, this look and and and this is one of the reasons why
- 25:41you don't it's hard to prejudge. A lot of people were just out
- 25:46on, Oh my gosh, arts garbage. I mean, listen, he wasn't good.
- 25:51In fairness, he wasn't good. Wasn't good.
- 25:53They all put that game against Nancy.
- 25:56Listen, I mean they're justified.
- 25:59People are justified to the I mean, like, but this is first
- 26:01year as a starter. I mean they were like hyping up
- 26:04for a couple years. You know, they was ready to so
- 26:06ready for Quinn Eva to get out of there.
- 26:08They could put arch in there hype machine all offseason, But
- 26:11I love how they there's been a great rebound for them.
- 26:14Yeah, but all Arch is done as the quarterback.
- 26:18Even when he started last year, he played against opponents that
- 26:22weren't SEC caliber opponents. He never once started ASEC game
- 26:26last year. One of the one that sickens me,
- 26:29but they deserve to be there. I'll give credit where credit is
- 26:32due. Oh yeah, that's sick.
- 26:37We're so bad at football and they're so good I'm surprised
- 26:41Miami still ranked after their two losses in piss poor
- 26:44performances. Well, they like, you know, it
- 26:47was funny. I was just listening to like
- 26:50like Atlanta sports radio show a while ago.
- 26:54You know, they just talk about, you know, they, they was talking
- 26:56about Carson Beck. You know how he's you know, they
- 26:59was and they were talking about like the Miami fans, they were
- 27:02getting on them. They were trash talking to him
- 27:04like in the first part of the season, you know, like, oh, you
- 27:07know, just it was it was Georgia was the problem.
- 27:09You know, Mike Bobo was the problem.
- 27:11Like they don't develop quarterbacks.
- 27:13Will this that in the third. But he said, are you saying,
- 27:16listen, calm down, give it time, give it time and look what you
- 27:19got? Georgia's ranked #5 and Parson
- 27:22back is wishing he just stayed. Listen, yeah, and like I will
- 27:28say this though, like, you know, with my Co workers, he he's a
- 27:30big Georgia guy. We used to last year we was
- 27:32talking sitting there like I don't hate him.
- 27:34I don't hate Beck at all. I just feel like you can he make
- 27:40can he because he's to make the big plays because you know, like
- 27:44it's as good as their defense was last year.
- 27:46I mean, they weren't as nearly as dominant as they were in like
- 27:49like their championship runs got like Jamie Carter, you know,
- 27:52Keely Ringo, all those guys. But they weren't nearly still
- 27:55really good, but not a nearly a dominant so.
- 27:58And you can't keep asking your defense, especially in this era
- 28:02of football. I said, listen, it's tailored to
- 28:05the offense. You got to carry the load.
- 28:07To his credit, last year he did improve at the end, but before
- 28:12he got hurt. But you still have to come back
- 28:15healthy and shed that criticism. So he has 6 picks in the last
- 28:20two games for Miami. Yeah.
- 28:22I mean, you look at stuff like, OK, Vandy, Speaking of coaches
- 28:28for LSU, I wouldn't mind hardly. I don't know if he can win.
- 28:31Yeah, he he unbelievable job. Put together a good run at
- 28:35Vandy. I mean, like just, you know, I
- 28:37go back to James Franklin laying that foundation, going back 9 to
- 28:419 to 4, back-to-back years and let matter of fact, let me pull
- 28:44up Vandy real quick. I don't want to give a store
- 28:47context because I think this is very interesting.
- 28:51Yeah, I mean, you got things like, is Georgia Tech still
- 28:55undefeated? I.
- 28:55Think they lost, Actually, yeah, they lost to NC State 464836,
- 29:02yeah. You know, look at all of this
- 29:04and it just just to, you know, bring your LSU back into this
- 29:08with this weekend. Emma.
- 29:12Alabama deserves to be a number four.
- 29:13I didn't think I would say it and I hate to admit it.
- 29:17Me too. What?
- 29:19They have done over there is what a team should typically do
- 29:23during the season. You start off terrible and
- 29:27progressively each week get better and better and better.
- 29:32And Alabama currently looks like to see him win in the national
- 29:37championship. They've been rolling, man.
- 29:40They haven't taken a break yet. They really responded like, and
- 29:44it pains me to say, you know, because I know a lot of people
- 29:47hate LA lot of people down here, certain people, not a lot.
- 29:52They hate LSU. So they support Bama, Get on the
- 29:55Barrel. Any bandwagon that's anti LSU,
- 29:57that's what they're going to go with.
- 30:00They have a lot to cheer about being fake.
- 30:03Yeah, I think, I think they knew right now only reason Texas A&M
- 30:11stays undefeated until they go rolling down and go play at
- 30:16Texas, OK, I see them going 11 and 11 and one this year.
- 30:22Only reason I say that is because Texas will be fired up.
- 30:26They playing at home this year. But the only reason Texas A&M
- 30:29hasn't lost the game yet is because they had had that
- 30:31October game against Alabama. I said what I said.
- 30:35I mean, you can't look that bad in the first half against LSU or
- 30:40the whole game defensively against or, but ever since A&M
- 30:46played. But I'll tell you what, I don't
- 30:49I think we're going to get beat on Saturday night something.
- 30:51Tells me tell. You fan, we're going to get beat
- 30:54unless they come out and they run a totally different
- 30:57offensive scheme. They put it together in two
- 30:59weeks, then they come out with fire.
- 31:02It might be a closer game. I think we're going to get beat
- 31:04though, but it's not going to be a dumpster fire like you I
- 31:10thought it would be. Yeah, last year it was a
- 31:11dumpster fire. It was tough two years ago to
- 31:14Dunsa fire defensively but. Yeah, I think depending on what
- 31:18happens with Oklahoma the rest of the season, I think LSU could
- 31:22potentially upset Oklahoma at Oklahoma.
- 31:25It just all depends on what kind of passion level they bring out,
- 31:28what kind of level they bring out to get to where they need to
- 31:32be. I mean, I like the College
- 31:35Football Playoff ranking. There's teams on here that like
- 31:39it all boils down to what we. I said when we get the first bit
- 31:43first podcast on this back in August.
- 31:48No. The AP poll and the coaches poll
- 31:52don't mean anything. Not especially not after
- 31:54November, after October, I'm sorry.
- 31:58Think they should come out with the College Football Playoff
- 32:01poll? Go with the month of September
- 32:03when everybody plays their non conference games or their
- 32:06historically typically weaker games.
- 32:10You know, go in in October when those games start the matter.
- 32:15Have the first playoff poll be the second week in October or
- 32:18the first weekend in October after the first games because
- 32:21that's when everybody typically plays that tougher game.
- 32:23Yeah, that's right. And do.
- 32:25AP In the coaches poll, you know, there's nobody after,
- 32:31nobody cares what you're ranked. Just have it like the NFL where
- 32:35it just, you come out with the rankings, you know?
- 32:38Yeah, it's just like, you know, especially in the playoff era.
- 32:41If you're going to use this as you go hard and die by the
- 32:46College Football Playoff poll, but many of people who probably
- 32:51hadn't touched the football in their entire lives use them the
- 32:54whole season. Guarantee or the only reason
- 32:57Oregon is one of those teams that are ranked so high is
- 32:59because they got two people on the board.
- 33:01That the Oregon thing. You know, like, you know, Skull
- 33:05always talk about like, you know, these these guys in
- 33:09suburban Dallas, it's like like this don't do anything put.
- 33:14Him, put him on the committee and it'd be some dude from the
- 33:19suburbs in Louisiana going up there.
- 33:21That dude needs to learn when to shut up.
- 33:23When we ignore Jeff Landry, Jeff Landry goes away and goes and
- 33:28does some other stupid stuff. You know, we let him have his
- 33:33tie go on the field last year. It went terribly.
- 33:36We ignored him everything he had to say after that.
- 33:40But for a week last week, that just goes to show you how much
- 33:43of a train wreck LSU actually was.
- 33:48When we had Matt Mascona fighting with the governor over
- 33:51nothing, one of my students asked me this week if I thought
- 33:53there was a way if LSU won out, they would eat back in the
- 33:56playoff. Thoughts.
- 33:57Honestly, three losses. What, you mean you can't, I
- 34:02can't count A&M because that's an outlier.
- 34:04It's like Brian Kelly said, they told me if I lose this game, I'm
- 34:09getting fired. I'm tired of these occasions
- 34:11down here telling me how to do my job every week and being
- 34:15right all the time. Oh, sit the second-half, we go
- 34:20put the practice squad in and then I'll be gone and y'all can
- 34:25have your team, you know, because you don't have you don't
- 34:28move like that. You don't move like that after
- 34:30you get fired. If it was a no, they fired me
- 34:33all of a sudden. But my point is if we go in and
- 34:36we go to end to Tuscaloosa at #4 Alabama and we be, we come in
- 34:40and we handle business at 11:45 AM against Arkansas.
- 34:44I mean, what in Kentucky and Arkansas aren't doing this any
- 34:47any favors being on our schedule at this point, you know?
- 34:50Like we said and then. We go into Oklahoma, we go into
- 34:54Oklahoma at 12 and we beat them all twelve playoff teams with
- 35:01hopes. We go in and beat them.
- 35:03I still don't see it unless we beat Alabama like A&M beat US 49
- 35:10to 25 or whatever. They would have to be blowout
- 35:13wins. Make it to the playoffs at this
- 35:16point. Brian Kelly assured you he was
- 35:19not a playoff championship winning coach.
- 35:21I mean, Joe Sloan did a terrible job.
- 35:27I don't know if you come back after a bye week, the energy
- 35:31level be up. I don't.
- 35:32But I don't think you can pull it off.
- 35:35Even if you beat Alabama. Like I said, if you beat
- 35:37Alabama, but you beat them by 30 points and then you turn around
- 35:41and you win at at home against Arkansas and you win at home
- 35:44against Western Kentucky and then you go to Oklahoma and blow
- 35:48them out by 3040 points, I think you can make an argument that
- 35:51LSU deserves to be in because they're only two losses.
- 35:54That two losses other than that are rank They lost to #3 they
- 35:59lost to number six Ole Miss by a touchdown and 16 Bandy at the
- 36:05supposed day by a touchdown at Ole Miss and at Bandy with the
- 36:09coach that was hell bent on holding them back.
- 36:12Like I said, they would have to blow out man, Oklahoma out.
- 36:17But that's the only path I can see for them to make a playoff
- 36:20this year. So what are you saying?
- 36:22And they need a lot of help. Yeah, they need Alabama cold
- 36:26defense and offense to get the flu or something this week.
- 36:31Honestly, I don't know how Oklahoma played against Texas
- 36:33and they looked against Texas and how they look.
- 36:36If we get we get weeks back. This is a whole different
- 36:39conversation. I'm with you.
- 36:42But it looks like he's out again this weekend.
- 36:45Which I saw. Yeah, well, any last thoughts?
- 36:51Hey brother, I want to tell you we shouldn't be enjoying your
- 36:53content for free. I'm working on that.
- 36:57It's a privilege. Need a few more viewers and
- 37:01listeners and then we can. I'm working on the views as you
- 37:03know I work on every day. Yeah, I appreciate that.
- 37:07Of course, I got a new pickleball racket, too.
- 37:10It was a pseudo. A pseudo gift.
- 37:13Yeah. So it's going to be a spare.
- 37:14Yeah. So we got to talk about that
- 37:16too. I'm gonna get, yeah, I'm gonna
- 37:19get with you tonight. I mean, I got to do got some
- 37:24stuff for work. The end of this, the last week
- 37:27of this month, I'm completely off.
- 37:28And we should definitely get back into it.
- 37:30For sure. It looked, I'm going to remind
- 37:34everybody, it looks like I'm looking down a lot.
- 37:36It's because my camera's right there and I used to do it on my
- 37:38phone, so I'm used to looking at will while we're doing this.
- 37:42Say I'm looking at you, brother. I know my camera's up here, I'm
- 37:45looking here so. And now I got to look down and
- 37:48it just looks. Every time I watch videos back
- 37:50it looks weird that I'm looking down, even the ones that did so
- 37:54I'm looking down. Nothing to the camera yet.
- 37:59As long as we hear each other communicate better.
- 38:03Yeah, I enjoyed it. Always.
- 38:06Everybody please if you like commented and subscribe as
- 38:10always have a great day, great morning, great night, whatever
- 38:14you have just make it a great one.
- 38:17Love y'all, talk to y'all later. Peace.
- 38:21Let's go.
