- 0:22SPEAKER_02: Hello, friends, and welcome back to another episode of the Friends on Football Podcast.
- 0:26SPEAKER_02: As always, I am one of your hosts, Sean Boyle, and I am joined by my right-hand man, Mr.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: Brandon Johnson.
- 0:32SPEAKER_02: Brandon, how are you?
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Sean, I'm doing well.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: I'm doing well.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: Weird, weird first weekend.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: We'll get into it, Sean, but doing well otherwise.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: How about you?
- 0:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, excited to have soccer, football back in our lives, which is the good news.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: The bad news was my team didn't necessarily do well, which we will get to.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: We're gonna go in chronological order, Brandon.
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: We're gonna touch on all the games so far.
- 0:54SPEAKER_02: As you said, it's a it was a weird first weekend, but it was an exciting first weekend.
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: We'll start with the game that happened Friday that kicked the season off.
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: It was Arsenal, the defending champions, playing host to newly promoted Coventry City.
- 1:07SPEAKER_02: This one was not one of the more exciting games of the weekend, Brandon.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: This one was over pretty quickly.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: It was a battering of sorts.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Agree.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Arsenal knew they were champions, they knew they were playing one of the newly promoted sides, and they just said, hey, we're here, we're bigger, we're badder, we're better, and just absolutely took care of Coventry.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: It wasn't even like you said, ten minutes in, you could tell it was gonna be a blowout.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: And it is unfortunate for Coventry to start the season with such a tough fixture.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: I feel like that is a bit of wrongdoing from the Premier League to basically just send them into the Lions Den and say, here you go.
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: It's like chum in the water.
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: And Arsenal were able to take advantage to their credit.
- 1:47SPEAKER_02: They never really had a problem defending or keeping Coventry out throughout the game.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: But I think the one takeaway I would have moving forward from this game is I just don't think Coventry should let them affect them moving forward.
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: This was kind of a scheduled loss.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: Like you your season starts next week.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I I agree with you, Sean.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: I I honestly don't think Coventry looked horrible.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: And it's hard to say when they lose 3-0 and you look at the stats, but I think they showed signs at certain points of the game where you're like, okay, they could put this together a little bit.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: They had a couple opportunities.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: Uh, but yeah, when you when you play Arsenal and unfortunately they're they look like they're in championship form from last season, honestly.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: And it's the first game of the season, and it it just, you know, it wasn't a wasn't a fair matchup at all.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: But yeah, Coventry, I think you you take that loss and you go into next week and you're like, alright, let's start over, let's get going.
- 2:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was one of the things we talked about in our preview, really, was just continuity matters, especially early in the season.
- 2:47SPEAKER_02: And one of the reasons we both felt so assured with Arsenal being able to retain the title was just the fact that they're basically running it back with the same team.
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: And if anything, they only strengthened.
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: And I think we'll start to see some of that strengthening really shine in weeks to come.
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: But Christo Zolas out on the left wing seemed like an immediate upgrade to anything they had last season.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: He was really dynamic, created a few chances for them.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: And I think that was kind of the theme throughout the weekend was that the teams that were settled got off to a lot better starts than the teams that tried to change a bunch this summer.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: So Arsenal remain as champions, they remain top of the table heading into this season.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: That was Friday.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: On Saturday, we got an early one, Brandon.
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: That was an absolute belter.
- 3:29SPEAKER_02: Whole City playing host to the almighty Manchester United and the newly promoted Whole City, who I shit on.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: I said they will score 20, they will record 24 points all season in the table.
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: They get off to a 2-0 victory.
- 3:43SPEAKER_02: What were your thoughts on this one?
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you said 24 points total.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: I said Manchester United is going to be second and could possibly challenge for the title.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: So clearly we were off a little bit on this one, Sean.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: Of course, it's it's week one, so there's a lot to digest and a lot of season to come.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: But whole city, I mean, they were at it.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: They did not look like a promoted side, Sean.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: We we mentioned last week about these promoted teams and that first time they come out of the tunnel, and it's a little it's a little bit different when you're playing a Premier League team versus a championship team.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: But Whole City took it right to Manchester United.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: They played their style, and 2-0 could have been honestly a few more.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: Manchester United really just looked disoriented.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: They they were really controlled from from minute one.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: Almost, honestly, I would say it was almost as controlling as the Arsenal how Arsenal was to Coventry.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: It was domination from Hall and very surprised, surprising to see that, but yeah, they had a plan, they stuck to it, and it and it paid off.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think the key that I keep telling myself on all fronts throughout this weekend is just don't overreact.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: It's so easy to.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: I waited so long for the season to come back, you're excited for it to begin, you're immediately going to form opinions on teams.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: It's important not to overreact.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: We might look at this result in two months and be like, how the fuck did Hull City beat Manchester United?
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: But the fact of the matter is, they caught them at the right time.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: They were more ready for this match than Manchester United were.
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: And honestly, they were fun to watch.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: They came out with the buzz at home.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: They're singing, you got mauled by a tiger, which was great.
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: I hope they continue to be able to sing that.
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: I think Balumi, their number 10, was brilliant.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: He had a couple moments.
- 5:21SPEAKER_02: I was like, look at this guy's Cherokee.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: Is he playing for hold now?
- 5:24SPEAKER_02: I thought there was some good vibes in that whole city squad that I wasn't really expecting.
- 5:29SPEAKER_02: And I agree with you, Manchester United just looked toothless.
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: They were playing Tigers and they themselves looked toothless.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: They didn't have a striker up top really.
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: They started Cunha in the nine.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: He's not a nine.
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: Then they brought on Chesco late.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: He wasn't up to speed either.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: He's been dealing with some injuries.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: So I think they'll get better as the season goes on, obviously.
- 5:48SPEAKER_02: But I do think it was kind of a wake-up call for a few teams, and Manchester United were the first ones, just chronologically, that kind of set that tone.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 5:55SPEAKER_02: Completely agree with you, Sean.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: We move on to the 10 a.m.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: games, Brandon.
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: They put three games on at 10 a.m.
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: And I think we got a couple good ones hidden in here.
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: Of course, the best game appeared to be the one that I didn't have on either of my TV screens.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: So we'll start with Ipswich beating Sunderland.
- 6:11SPEAKER_02: That's a great result for the Tractor Boys, Brandon.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: Fantastic.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: 2-1 at home, your first game of the season.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: You're playing Sunderland, who I don't I'm not very high on personally, but still is a Premier League side, and to win at home, I believe Jack Clark scored one of the goals.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a good win for them.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: And anytime you can get three points, when you're a team that's projected to be in the relegation fight, you you take those three points.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: So kudos to Ipswich Town.
- 6:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's one of those results.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: All the games matter the same amount in the Premier League.
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: There's 38, there's no playoffs, but it's one of those that if Sunderland are in that relegation battle, how you kind of touted they might be this season, it's one of those relegation six-pointers.
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: You know, it's a lost opportunity.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: And I thought N Ciso, Julio Inciso, played a brilliant game from Ipswich, from what I see, what I've seen.
- 6:59SPEAKER_02: He had this beautiful flick attempt for an assist.
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: It was almost the most ridiculous assist of the season in match week one.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: It didn't quite come off, but he was really good.
- 7:08SPEAKER_02: He did assist Emerson's goal, the record signing.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: He goes and links up with Inciso to open the scoring for Ipswich.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: And then, like you said, Jack Clark scores the winner.
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: Great result for the Tractor Boys, Ed Sheeran and the lads will be happy with that.
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: Also at 10 a.m., we had a game that was the opposite, one that was on my main TV.
- 7:27SPEAKER_02: It was Leeds against Forest, two teams that I was high on heading into this season.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: And overall, I I leave the game encouraged by both teams.
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: I kind of saw what I think I was going to see.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: It was just a bit of a rusty, turgid affair in match week one.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: Some struggle to create is what I would say.
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: Both sides, their Achilles heel, I think is going to be their creation.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: Morgan Gibbs White is really all Nottingham Forest has in that way.
- 7:52SPEAKER_02: And Leeds, I think, sorely miss a couple more creators in their attack.
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: But I think defensively, both these teams are really sound.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know you're high on Forest defense, and I thought they played well.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: To give up a free kick goal, of course, is is tough, but I I thought the same.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: I had eyes on that game for most of it as well, Sean, and it was back and forth, but it was it was sloppy.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: It wasn't clean.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: It wasn't what we'll see in January, February when these teams are really jelling.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: It looked like the first game of the season.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: And you know, Leeds is lucky to come out with three points, of course, but not the best watching experience.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: For sure, not the best to view.
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: But I do think it's another one where you could look back, and these two teams might be in similar parts of the table throughout the season.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: It's one you could look back on and be like, if you're a Leeds supporter, wow, that was a good three points away from home.
- 8:43SPEAKER_02: So credit to Leeds for getting the job done.
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: Seeing a clean sheet out away from home is never easy.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: The last of the 10 o'clock games was the game I ended up paying the most attention to.
- 8:51SPEAKER_02: Everton beat Crystal Palace 2-0.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: But Brandon, that was not the story that I saw from this game.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: I thought Palace could have been ahead 3-0 at half.
- 9:00SPEAKER_02: They came out and under Pierre Sage were creating chances.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: They were playing some free-falling football, and they had a couple of sitters for Eddie and Kedia and Jean-Philip Mateta, who they both missed.
- 9:11SPEAKER_02: They took turns hitting the post, the crossbar.
- 9:14SPEAKER_02: It was a frustrating one, I'm sure.
- 9:16SPEAKER_02: If you're a Palace fan, you'll feel hard done by to not pick up any points there.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: And the score line is a bit deceiving, but that's kind of what Everton do.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: That's David Moy's ball.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: It's not brilliant, it's not the best, but he gets the job done.
- 9:28SPEAKER_02: And I think that was a good start for Everton.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a good start.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: Sean, I didn't see this game, so I appreciate your insight because you see 2-0 and you're like, all right, Everton just went in and took care of business.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: Uh, but based on what you're saying, it doesn't sound like that.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: But I mean honestly, at the end of the day, the final score is all that truly matters.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: So if you're Everton, yeah, you take the three points on opening day, start off the season on the right foot.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: Palace, I'm sure, like you said, they probably feel hard done by maybe to not even get one point out of it.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: But they also went to Everton.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: Everton's not the easiest place to play.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: A lot of these teams, Sean, and I'm sure we'll see this as the season continues.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: That home field advantage does really help.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: It's that extra little boost.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: I feel like some sports, like baseball, for instance, and American baseball, I don't I don't know how much the home field advantage really helps, especially in the regular season.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: Playoff baseball, yeah, maybe.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: But in football and soccer, it it feels like these home games, the team that is the home team, they're always trying to get on the front foot, always trying to attack and win, which I think is the better strategy rather than sitting back and and counterattacking.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: I know that's some team strategy, and I understand that, but I think there's something to be said about teams that can get on the front foot and try to get ahead of it.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: So for Everton to take care of business at home, that's what they want to do, and they'll they'll look to continue that next week.
- 10:43SPEAKER_02: Yep, and another one where teams that project to be in similar parts of the table.
- 10:48SPEAKER_02: So if you could pick up three points opposed to one, it's a really good start.
- 10:51SPEAKER_02: I thought that Ilman and Jive for Everton was great as always.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: There were some links with him potentially moving this summer.
- 10:57SPEAKER_02: He's currently still in Merseyside in Liverpool playing for Everton, and as long as he is, he's going to be a standout in this league.
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: He's just fun to watch.
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: Your guy, Kiernan Dewsbury Hall, brilliant goal from him.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: He was really good.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: And then on Crystal Palace, Adam Warren's passing is an absolute joke in midfield.
- 11:14SPEAKER_02: Every time he gets the ball, he hits a brilliant progressive pass forward.
- 11:17SPEAKER_02: It's like, oh my god, you could see why some of the biggest clubs in the world are after his services.
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: I think Palace will be lucky to hold on him throughout the deadline.
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: I think they're going to from all accounts.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: They're turning down all bids.
- 11:27SPEAKER_02: But this might be his last year with Palace.
- 11:30SPEAKER_02: So enjoy it if you're a Palace fan because he's an absolute joke.
- 11:33SPEAKER_02: Moving on dreadfully to the 1230 game brand.
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: And the last game on Saturday, it was, of course, Tottenham getting battered away from home.
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: They got tatted up here.
- 11:44SPEAKER_02: This was not a fun one.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: I was so excited for the Premier League to start and have Tottenham back.
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: Hours of podcasts listening, getting my excitement levels ready.
- 11:55SPEAKER_02: Who's going to play where?
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: What's the lineup gonna look like?
- 11:58SPEAKER_02: And about 10 minutes in, I knew all that was a grave, grave mistake.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: I I there was chum in the water, and Brentford absolutely circled us like sharks.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: What'd you think of the Tottenham result?
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Sean.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: So thankfully, I'm probably in a better mood than you are because I didn't have to watch 90 minutes of it.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: I just watched the highlights.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: I happened to not be at home when this game was going on.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: But uh 3-0 and and Brentford, I'm sure you'll get into it, Sean.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: Brentford misses a penalty kick as well, so it should have been 4-0 potentially.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, not not good.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: Of course, not not good.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: I do think we can't do too much of the first week reading.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: And of course, it's selfish to say that because it's our team and we lost.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: If we would have won 4-0, 3-0, we'd be like, oh yeah, yeah, schedule the parade.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: Let's let's let's do it, Sean.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: But understanding that there's likely, likely some transfers coming into Spurs, some other players who are injured that are gonna be fully fit soon.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: The World Cup guys didn't play either, so yeah, it's tough to see a 3-0 result, period.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: But the silver lining is that's definitely not Tottenham's best team.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: But in the same in the same vein, at least in my prediction, Brentford and Spurs, that's another battle.
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: They're probably gonna be in similar regions of the table.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: And losing those three points, whether it's on week one or week 38, it's still three points.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: So uh it's unfortunate, but you know, you don't want to hold your head too too low from it.
- 13:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they all do count the same, so your point is well taken.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: I just want to give credit to Brentford, first of all.
- 13:31SPEAKER_02: I thought they were brilliant.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: I think Tottenham were bad, of course.
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: I don't think they were up for this match, but that was to Brentford's credit.
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: They had a great preseason where they kind of stayed local.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: I believe they trained in Portugal in the early parts of the preseason, but then all of their matches were in and around England, London, and they worked their fitness levels up and they were absolutely ready to go for the game.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: And I think that kind of goes back to the point I touched on with Arsenal.
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: They have that same continuity throughout their team.
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: They made a couple small improvements.
- 13:59SPEAKER_02: The biggest improvement was adding Mamadou Sengare, who we talked about in the preview show.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: I think I tabbed him transfer of the year.
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: We talked about him as a breakout player.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: He was absolutely he ran the game.
- 14:10SPEAKER_02: So it shows that you could bring a guy in from League and they can make an immediate impact in match week one.
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: He was ridiculously good.
- 14:18SPEAKER_02: So I think all things are pointing up from a Brentford point of view.
- 14:22SPEAKER_02: But to your point about Tottenham, yeah, I don't feel too badly about this.
- 14:25SPEAKER_02: It sucks to have lost in that manner.
- 14:28SPEAKER_02: But when you look forward, what Tottenham will look like a month from now, two months from now is going to be completely different, not just from a personnel standpoint, but just also from how they're going to play under De Zerby.
- 14:39SPEAKER_02: I think a lot of that will change over the coming weeks.
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: The season just happened to start a week too early for Tottenham, and I'm choosing to believe what happens next week will be the true representation of how the season starts.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: So I trust you.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: Now, this this is of course me picking and choosing my narratives because I'm gonna lambast Manchester United and Aston Villa for their performances, but Tottenham, that will be a write-off.
- 15:02SPEAKER_02: But I do think there is some merit on both sides.
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: Brentford away is a tough draw to begin with.
- 15:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: Just you don't want to give that coaching staff that much time to prepare for you either.
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: They just manhandled us tactically, physically, and they deserved three points.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: So not much to glean from Tottenham's point of view.
- 15:19SPEAKER_02: We're on to Newcastle, is what I would say, with a little sneaky fixture in the cup against Charlton in between, who just took down West Ham, Brandon.
- 15:27SPEAKER_02: They just went into London and took down West Ham.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so you can't sleep on Wednesday.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: Can't sleep.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: But you gotta win.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: You gotta you gotta win.
- 15:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, must win early in the year.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: I hate to do that, but we have two must-wins in this week.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: So that's where we stand with Tottenham.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: We won't belabor that point.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: Thank God for Aston Villa, who started things off on Sunday, Brandon, because if anybody could save Tottenham some energy and some jokes this weekend, it would be the villains.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: These guys were completely torched by Brighton.
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: 4-0, and it wasn't even that close.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: Sean, it was absolutely absurd.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: I had that game on with the Manchester City game on the other screen, going back and forth with the sound, and after Brighton scored their third, I changed the sound to the city game because I was like, all right, this is done and dusted.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: I'm watching the city game locked in, and I see on the other screen Brighton celebrating again, and I was like, oh, they're just showing the replay.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: And I was like, oh wait, no, and the score went to 4-0.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: Turns out Brighton scores two goals in I think it was a minute and 22 seconds or something like that, Sean.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: Like, you just to think about that, you have to score, celebrate, yeah, and then score again that quickly.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: Like the clock doesn't stop in soccer, so a minute 22 is a true minute and 22 seconds.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: And it's like, what are we doing?
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: And and we'll get I'll let you I'll let you speak on Aston Villa as well, but it it's that's that's a terrible, terrible start to the season.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: Brighton is a good team, don't get me wrong, but Aston Villa, they got issues.
- 17:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it it seems like what we saw was a team that had their entire spine from the Champions League campaign a season ago ripped from them.
- 17:09SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 17:10SPEAKER_02: And just before this game, Ollie Watkins says he doesn't want to be part of the squad anymore.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: He's trying to force a move, so he's not even in the match day squad for this.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: That's the icing on the cake after having already lost Morgan Rogers and Emmy Martinez and Amadou Onana to an ACL and Yuri Tielemans to Manchester United.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: It's just so many players.
- 17:32SPEAKER_02: Ezra Kansa just joined Arsenal this week.
- 17:34SPEAKER_02: It's so many players that of course it's going to take some time to figure things out.
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: So if you're a Villa fan, I don't think it's time to press the panic button.
- 17:42SPEAKER_02: I do trust you and I Emory to figure this out.
- 17:45SPEAKER_02: It was just really shocking how how bad they were.
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: Specifically Joe Gomez in the middle of the park.
- 17:50SPEAKER_02: He gets sent off in the 39th minute.
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: He could have been sent off in about the 16th minute.
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: He already was on a yellow.
- 17:56SPEAKER_02: Funny enough, his yellow card that he earned was for gesturing that a yellow card was given to another player.
- 18:02SPEAKER_02: So he starts things off by picking up one of those, and then he puts in a couple questionable tackles that he could have got sent off for, pick up a second yellow.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: If that's not bad enough, he has the ball inside his own box, Dillies on it too long, gives away a goal, and then he had to have just lost his head at this point.
- 18:21SPEAKER_02: He goes and gets a straight red card.
- 18:23SPEAKER_02: So he exits the game with basically an own goal, with a yellow and a red.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: He's picking up all the colors, and somehow he ended up with a match rating higher than Villa's two starting center backs.
- 18:35SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 18:35SPEAKER_02: So that's how bad Villa were at the back.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's disaster performance from them.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: And we you I will I will give you a shout-out, Sean.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: You did mention you didn't have them as high as other people did, and I didn't either.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: I think I had them at ninth, and I believe you had them at eighth.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: So same, same area, but people were saying they should be a fourth, fifth, sixth team, and you're we were both kind of like don't see it.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: And with that performance uh yesterday, Sean, uh yeah, I I don't see it either.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: So who who knows?
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Hopefully they turn things around.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: They do have a great manager, they're gonna have to get some transfers in, they're gonna have to figure it out quickly.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: Ollie Watkins is just another added piece of this saga who, like you said, just wants to leave and isn't playing.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: So a lot of issues at Villa, but uh I do trust that they'll they'll get something sorted out.
- 19:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I would always buy a long-term approach with a guy like Una Emery and some of the guys they brought in.
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: Like, I think some of the business they've done to replace those guys that have left has been good.
- 19:34SPEAKER_02: It just might take a while to see the fruits of that labor.
- 19:36SPEAKER_02: So that's gonna be an interesting thing to watch moving forward.
- 19:40SPEAKER_02: Another great game that happened on Sunday, Brandon, at the same time as this one, while that one we could shut off and turn to all of our attention to Manchester City at the Etihad.
- 19:50SPEAKER_02: They come back from a goal down to beat Bournemouth.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: I thought this was a good result because boy, did I have my pitchfork ready for Enzo Moresca.
- 19:58SPEAKER_02: I was ready to come for him on this very program.
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna say I'm not gonna do it.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: It's just not yet.
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: He gets another week, Brandon.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he saved himself late.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: And it was your your guy, Ryan Turkey, changed the game, two assists, and Holland didn't look up for it.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: Honestly, I don't know if it's a little bit more.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: What about this change?
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: What about the haircut, Brandon?
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: Cut his hair, Sean.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: I I mean what are we doing?
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: You gotta tell us that before we captain you in fantasy premiere, girl.
- 20:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:26SPEAKER_02: Come on, man.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: You know, you're 15 and a half million on the site.
- 20:31SPEAKER_02: Everybody's got the captain's armband around you, and you you cut your hair.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: Did you see, Brandon?
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: He also he facetimed Zlatan, and it was absolutely hilarious because Zlatan said he gets his power from his hair, and Zlatan was outraged that he had cut it.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: It was great, great content.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it it's unfortunate that that happened, and then he had a game like that, but it's like classic, it's like classic NBA Twitter, Sean, when people make the memes and it's like so-and-so better not have a bad game this year because that meme will pop back up, and yeah, Holland unfortunately is gonna have to eat this one.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: They they go and win the game, though.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: So at the end of the day, as ugly as it was, Cherky comes in, saves the day, has two assists, and they end up winning the game.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: So three points is three points, but did not look did not look like the Manchester City side that I would say most people expect to see this season.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was not impressed with them in the slightest.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: And I thought Bournemouth actually kind of let themselves down a bit.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: They were doing a good job of picking when to push forward.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: They got the goal first, and then they looked comfortable throughout the game.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: They really didn't look too much like they were going to concede a couple of half chances that skated by Erling actually had a couple himself that he normally would score, that Bournemouth did get a bit lucky with, but then they just stopped trying to get that second goal and kill the game off, it seemed.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: And that's when if you don't kill the game off against City, no matter who's in charge, with that level of talent, they're always going to linger around.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: And as you mentioned, Cherokee's the man who makes the difference.
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: Two end product balls that deliver both goals one from a corner, one from slipping.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Through Gavordol for a nice finish.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: Brandon, they have uh so many center backs in the starting lineup for City.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: I counted four starting center backs in addition to a starting right back and Nico O'Reilly playing as like a 10.
- 22:13SPEAKER_02: So it was weird.
- 22:14SPEAKER_02: We saw Mark Gay play as a six, which was new.
- 22:17SPEAKER_02: I I think he's dabbled in that in the past, but that's a choice for Menzo Moresca, certainly.
- 22:22SPEAKER_02: I it was weird to me the the lineup for City.
- 22:25SPEAKER_02: I thought they sorely missed a guy like Cherky throughout the whole match, but hey, they were able to get it done and save him some minutes.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: So I guess all things considered a good result for Manchester City.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: The game of the day that uh everybody was I would say most looking forward to was Sunday, the last kickoff, Liverpool going to Newcastle.
- 22:45SPEAKER_02: But the real storyline in this one was Alexander Issack's return.
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: And this was, Brandon, as hostile of an environment as you'll see in the Premier League.
- 22:53SPEAKER_02: Every single time Isak touched the ball, he was met with a fervor of booze that I just have to clap my hands to the Newcastle supporters because they showed out and set the tone for this one felt like proper bar clays from minute one because of those fans.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you you love to see it.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: Of course, you hope it doesn't get too too personal, but yeah, when you have a a guy who meant that much to your club who just kind of walked out and said, I don't want to be here anymore, it's gonna it's gonna stay.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: And there are ways to leave teams on good terms, and he certainly didn't do that.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: And he didn't, you know, and it's it's it's it's deserved, honestly.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: And you know, the game itself being a 2-2 draw, Liverpool scores the panel kick late to get to steal a point.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, proper Barclays Sean.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: And I I didn't see this game live, I saw highlights, but yeah, you could you could feel it.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: It didn't feel like a week one game, it felt like a a cup final, a cup semifinal where where guys are going all after it.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the intensity was tremendous in this one.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: It was one of those where the intensity was so high that the quality suffered.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: Yes, and that happens, especially early in the year, but I'll trade that any day for a game that was as chaotic and as just it felt like high stakes as this.
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: The equalizer at at the death for Zava's lie, it was a great penalty from him.
- 24:11SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: It was tough from Lewis Hall to give that one away.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: It was they were they're supposed to play 90 plus five.
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: They were in the 96th minute, and the penalty gets called, and it it is a pen.
- 24:22SPEAKER_02: It's it's one of those that's gonna get given every time.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: It's also not the worst foul or the most offensive, it's one of those you just get caught out a bit, and it's a clever play from the attacker.
- 24:31SPEAKER_02: So Liverpool eke out a draw, but they're another one of those teams that are projected high up in the table that just are far from settled.
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: So they're another one that will continue to get better, I think, throughout the season.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: But it's important to watch how they do early in the season.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can't you can't falter too much.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: It's it's hard.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: We've seen it with other teams to climb back once you're out of it.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: Uh, but yeah, Liverpool, I guess you you're happy you got a late point, it's one's more than zero, but yeah, they're not gonna be satisfied with that performance overall.
- 25:01SPEAKER_02: No, they will not.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: So, Brandon, the structure of these episodes each week, we're gonna try to keep it pretty similar.
- 25:07SPEAKER_02: We just did our chronological run through.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: Now we're gonna give out some awards.
- 25:10SPEAKER_02: We've got a couple team awards, we've got a couple individual awards before we get to just some notes from different areas of soccer.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: So we'll start with the team awards, Brandon.
- 25:19SPEAKER_02: Who do you think had the best result this weekend?
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: And tell me why.
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I went whole city with the 2-0 one over Manchester United.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, your recently promoted side, your first game back in the prem in a few years.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: You get Manchester United, who's a big dog compared to most teams, and you come out and handle them, and it wasn't, like I said earlier, it wasn't the 2-0 where the whole city had two chances the whole game, and that was it.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: They really, really competed from minute one, and maybe it was Manchester United just wasn't up for it.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: There's probably some of that, but at the same time, you still have to go in and score and to do that, protect your home field.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I have to give it to Hall City for best overall team performance this weekend.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: I would like to echo what you said.
- 26:02SPEAKER_02: I I think it was a really cool performance from Hole Two, just seeing a new ground back in the Prem, fans up for it.
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: 7:30 a.m.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: on a Saturday, it just felt right.
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: And then we got what we were hoping for in terms of an upset.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: So I would agree with you, but to give a little bit of credit to another team, I've gone back and forth between two.
- 26:19SPEAKER_02: I've been back and forth between Brighton and Ipswich.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: I'll go Ipswich, just on the trend of newly promoted sides, doing a job early in the year.
- 26:27SPEAKER_02: Ipswich are a team that are trying to kind of go with the Sunderland approach from last year, too, where they spend a lot of money and bring in a lot of new players, and they're kind of doing their first season in the Prem on the fly, trying to figure it out.
- 26:40SPEAKER_02: I think in a relegation battle is probably what you're in for.
- 26:43SPEAKER_02: To get three points on the first match day is excellent.
- 26:46SPEAKER_02: And like you said, it's against a team that could potentially be in that mix with them.
- 26:49SPEAKER_02: I think this one might age really well.
- 26:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: Could come back to help them doubly if Sunderland do start to suffer.
- 26:55SPEAKER_02: So I thought their their team looked pretty fluid too.
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: I didn't see it live, but I went back and watched the extended highlights.
- 27:02SPEAKER_02: The goals were nice.
- 27:03SPEAKER_02: They had a few moments where you're like, well, I could see it coming off for them.
- 27:07SPEAKER_02: So I I'm excited by what I've seen from the promoted sides, even if it is only one week.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, honestly, all three promoted sides, and I know Coventry got a little bit battered by Arsenal, but you're playing against probably, I mean, barring anything weird happening, the best team in the league.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: And yeah, and we know Coventry's gonna be pretty good too.
- 27:25SPEAKER_02: Like we saw they ran this championship last year, so I think we trust them to be at least as good as Ipswich and Hull.
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, and I think everybody before the season, Sean, and us a little bit included in that, we kind of had the three up, three down.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: Like it, and it's been the trend the last few years, and Sunderland was able to kind of buck that trend a few years ago.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: But uh typically the teams that come from the championship struggle and go right back down to the championship.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: But two of them on three points after match day one, hey, like and with no playoffs and no postseason situation, those three points are gonna go a long way.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: So kudos to those guys.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: Coventry, of course, bad draw, like you said earlier, Sean.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: It happens, but but yeah, keep their heads up and and I think it could be interesting.
- 28:11SPEAKER_01: Like we we might have to be looking at some other teams in this relegation fight if that if they continue to play like this.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: And it's not lost on me that if you do look at the league table right now, Tottenham are in the drop zone again to start the year.
- 28:24SPEAKER_02: Listen here.
- 28:25SPEAKER_02: We're not going down, okay?
- 28:26SPEAKER_02: So save those bits, save them for another day, all right.
- 28:30SPEAKER_02: Let's flip the script though, Brandon.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about what team gave the worst performance of the weekend.
- 28:35SPEAKER_02: I'll go first here, and I think we just you could agree with me, because I do think there is a clear worst performance, and I think it has to be Aston Villa.
- 28:45SPEAKER_02: They just never were in this game.
- 28:48SPEAKER_02: And Manchester losing the holes, not good.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: Tottenham losing that badly to Brentford, not good.
- 28:54SPEAKER_02: But Aston Villa were down 4-0 and a man down 38 minutes into the match.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it seemed bad.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: It was it was so bad.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that I couldn't believe my eyes.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, and you had uh you had away fans from Aston Villa who who traveled to Brighton to see the game, and they were leaving, and it was just it was not good, and that's gonna have to get sorted out extremely quickly.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: So I I don't want to sound off all alarm bells for Aston Villa, but there there's there's a couple sirens going off.
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: So it's a little bit more serious than just a week one thing for Villa.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: I I I do, Sean.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: I do I'm kind of with you just because of the turnover.
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: They they've suffered more turnover than some of these other clubs that we're mentioning might have some growing pains.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: Yes, and then you have Watkins who's like, I don't want to play here.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: So that's your number nine.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: He's he's scored you know double digits go double digit goals the last however many years in the Premier League.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: Like he's a very good player, and to now just probably be losing him kind of overnight blindly is tough.
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: So yeah, uh there's definitely some alarms going off at Aston Villa.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: I don't think it's just a week one kind of you know situation.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: I think there's some bigger things going on at that club.
- 30:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it kind of seems like in back in like elementary or high school when you find out your class roster and all your friends are in a different class, and you get left with like the teacher nobody wants, and you're all by yourself.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: That's what happened to Ollie Watkins at Villa.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: He's like, Well, where's where's my buddy?
- 30:23SPEAKER_02: Where's my buddy Yuri?
- 30:24SPEAKER_02: Oh, he's he's gone, mate.
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: What about what about Ezra?
- 30:28SPEAKER_02: He's gone too.
- 30:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: Surely I got Emmy Martinez back in gold.
- 30:32SPEAKER_02: Nope, he's leaving.
- 30:33SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 30:33SPEAKER_02: Well, there's gotta be somebody I know, and he's looking around and he's like, well, no, there's nobody I know.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: He has so he has Onana, but Onana's in the training room because he tore his own.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: He's in the training room.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: He has none of his boys on the field.
- 30:44SPEAKER_02: Tim and Maddie Cash, just trying to reminisce about the good old days.
- 30:47SPEAKER_02: We'll we'll see.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: I think Una will figure it out.
- 30:50SPEAKER_02: It's just, I do agree.
- 30:52SPEAKER_02: If I'm sound if I'm putting a code color code on it, it's not a code red, but we're at a yellow.
- 30:59SPEAKER_02: Whereas I don't even think we're sounding the alarm yet on some other teams.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, that's fair.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: That's absolutely fair, Sean.
- 31:05SPEAKER_02: So we talked about the best team, we talked about the worst team.
- 31:08SPEAKER_02: Now we should talk about the best individual performance before we give away our stinker of the week.
- 31:13SPEAKER_02: So, Brandon, each week we're gonna give awards out.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: We could kind of take them in any direction we want to.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: They don't necessarily need to be the out and out best performer.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: It could be a moment of magic that you saw, it could be just a guy putting in a shift that you want to shout out, but we're gonna basically give out like helmet stickers like they do in college football at Ohio State.
- 31:31SPEAKER_02: Each week we're gonna give out little pins from the friends on football here.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: Brandon, who are you giving yours to this week?
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Sean, I'm yeah, I know it's week one and I'm I'm cheating because I'm picking, I got three.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: So okay, yeah, listen.
- 31:45SPEAKER_02: Ohio State, they've got they've got plenty of helmet stickers.
- 31:47SPEAKER_02: They're not only giving out one a week.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: So true, true.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: I'll start with James Trafford, the Leeds goalkeeper.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: We mentioned him on this podcast as being probably the successor, successor to Jordan Pickford for the England national team.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: He kept a clean sheet against New Uh Nottingham Forest.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: Leeds ends up winning on a late free kick, but I think his performance was solid, and it's something that Leeds was desperately missing, I believe, in the last few years.
- 32:13SPEAKER_01: I really think Leeds dropped points because of bad goalkeeping.
- 32:17SPEAKER_01: And to have somebody like Trafford back there now, I think you'll see more clean sheets from them.
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: I think you'll see them being in more games even when they're not favored, because he can keep them in the game single-handedly, in my opinion.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: My second one, Sean, Jack Hinchelwood from Brighton.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: Jack Hinchelwood was actually the guy on Brighton who scored the third and fourth goals back to back, which was what caused my confusion.
- 32:37SPEAKER_01: Um, I did a quick search on him because I didn't know much about him.
- 32:40SPEAKER_01: He's a 21-year-old center midfielder uh from England.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: He's been in the Brighton Academy since he's seven years old.
- 32:47SPEAKER_01: Just worked his way all the way up to the first team.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: He's been playing for the first team the last three, it looks like just over three years.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: He's played, he's played with the under 21s for England.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: He's at 67 appearances for the first team.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: And to score two goals on the opening day of the season for your boyhood club, that's gotta be a fantastic feeling.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: So shout out Jack.
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: Love to see it.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: And my third one, Sean, even though they lost Sunderland, I'm gonna give it to Nielsen Angulo.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: Uh Nielsen Angulo scored Sunderland's goal.
- 33:18SPEAKER_01: Uh, the significance of why I'm giving him the award is he scored from a free kick, Sean, and that was their first, first free kick goal in the top flight in 10 years.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, which is which is incredible because we all watch soccer, football, and we we see free kicks and we think, all right, this is gonna be a a good chance to score.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: And Sutnerland hasn't been able to capitalize on that.
- 33:37SPEAKER_01: So for Angula to score uh for the first time on a free kick, not a corner, just uh a strictly a free kick in the last 10 years is fantastic for them.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: So kudos to to Nelson.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, an absolute belter of a goal, too.
- 33:50SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 33:50SPEAKER_02: Maybe the goal of the weekend it was it was up there for sure.
- 33:53SPEAKER_02: I only have two.
- 33:54SPEAKER_02: I will probably moving forward, though.
- 33:56SPEAKER_02: There will be weeks with three or four.
- 33:57SPEAKER_02: Don't get me wrong.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: We're we'll we're not gonna be too we're not gonna cling on to these.
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: We're topping these out there.
- 34:03SPEAKER_02: You gotta give them that.
- 34:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you earned it, you get one.
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: If we ever run across these guys in our travels, we tell them how many helmet stickers they have, you know?
- 34:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:11SPEAKER_02: So I will give my first one I mentioned him during the Tottenham recap, but Mamadou Sangari for Brentford, absolute joke in the center of the park, ran the game, best player on the pitch by a wide margin, can do it all.
- 34:23SPEAKER_02: Was very impressed by him.
- 34:24SPEAKER_02: I've seen him play a couple times in games.
- 34:26SPEAKER_02: I've seen some compilations and was impressed, and I said it would be a good signing.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: He was even better more immediately than I thought he would be.
- 34:33SPEAKER_02: So a quick one for him, and then Julio and Ciso, the young Paraguayan, he's kind of hopped around clubs the last couple of years.
- 34:41SPEAKER_02: He was part of Blue Co.
- 34:42SPEAKER_02: I believe he comes from Strasbourg most recently.
- 34:45SPEAKER_02: But this guy, I mean, he ends up with one assist, but he was the creative spark in the middle of the park that they needed to get a win in their opening game.
- 34:54SPEAKER_02: And I thought he was brilliant in the role.
- 34:56SPEAKER_02: If he could play at that level, I think suddenly they could go to a level I didn't think they were capable of.
- 35:03SPEAKER_02: And it seems like they're still trying to strengthen and add to their team, too.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: So that's encouraging.
- 35:09SPEAKER_02: If you're a tractor boy, if you're a fan of the Switch Town, I think my tune is not, I'm not gonna sit here and change my preseason prediction and say you're definitely staying up by any means, but I'm more open to the idea now.
- 35:21SPEAKER_02: I think it's much more of a possibility based on what I saw against the Sunderland side, who I still think is pretty solid.
- 35:27SPEAKER_02: So maybe you're right and Sunderland are kind of shit, and this result doesn't age that well.
- 35:31SPEAKER_02: It's kind of like, oh, everybody's beaten Sunderland.
- 35:33SPEAKER_02: I was impressed with Ips Ipswich Town.
- 35:35SPEAKER_01: I like that, Sean.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: I I like those those shots.
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: And I do appreciate being able to spread the love because obviously there's two of us, there's ten games a weekend, we don't see everything.
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: But it's good to give guys a shout-out, even like my third one with Angulo, they didn't even win.
- 35:51SPEAKER_01: Uh they lost the game, but but to score a free kick and not and having that not happen in the last 10 years is it's pretty significant.
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: So I felt it was appropriate to give one to him.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: So I think it's gonna be a cool idea, Sean, for us to be able to spread the love, give guys shout-outs that maybe wouldn't get it.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: And and I love how the criteria is open.
- 36:09SPEAKER_01: You know, you and I can kind of direct it how we want to direct it.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: It might be a guy who has 25 dribbles, yeah, a Sean Boyle guy, and then other weeks it's a guy like Adam Morton, like you said, just pass, pass, pass, or or a couple goals.
- 36:23SPEAKER_01: It could be anything.
- 36:24SPEAKER_01: So I like the open-endedness of it, uh, just being able to give out guys, give guys shout outs that we want to give guys on our own.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: And we're still workshopping what we're gonna call these awards.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: I've referenced them as 10 different things already.
- 36:35SPEAKER_02: So if listeners, if you have any ideas of what to call them, or if you have a shout-out that you think we should have had our eyes on or need to go back and maybe give one out, give an award out to, please let us know.
- 36:46SPEAKER_02: That would be appreciated.
- 36:48SPEAKER_02: We do also, though, Brandon, we keep it honest here, we do have to talk about the flip side of this, and I've nicknamed it the Stinker of the Week.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: I think that might stick until a better option comes forward.
- 36:58SPEAKER_02: There's only one direction we could go with this.
- 37:01SPEAKER_02: We talked about them, but Lucas Berival for Tottenham should thank his lucky stars that Joao Gomes played the way he did for Aston Villa, because this award, it was coming your way, Lucas, Stinker of the Week.
- 37:12SPEAKER_02: But thankfully for you, Joao Gomes was an absolute disaster.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: I don't want to say he was match fixing, but let me just say this, Brandon.
- 37:21SPEAKER_02: If it came out two years from now that this match was fixed, we know who did it.
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: No, it Sean, it was bad.
- 37:30SPEAKER_01: And you went through the chronology of his moments, but it literally looked like his goal was to give the other team a goal and to get sent off as quickly as possible.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: And he did both of those within the first half.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: So if he had money on it, I hope he was really getting paid.
- 37:47SPEAKER_01: But that was bad, Sean.
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: It was it was bad.
- 37:51SPEAKER_02: He wasn't even a little bit upset or surprised when he was sent off.
- 37:54SPEAKER_02: Nope.
- 37:55SPEAKER_02: It was as if he had expected it.
- 37:56SPEAKER_02: That's what really threw me.
- 37:57SPEAKER_02: I was I was stunned.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: Well, the crazy part, Sean.
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say the crazy part is they reviewed that red card to V AR.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and let's say, let's say it wasn't a red card and it was a yellow, he would still have been sent off because it was the second yellow.
- 38:10SPEAKER_01: So it was like with that tackle, he knew he was done.
- 38:13SPEAKER_02: He I have no clue what he was thinking, and I I like him.
- 38:16SPEAKER_02: I I said he was a good transfer.
- 38:18SPEAKER_02: I think he's a good player.
- 38:19SPEAKER_02: I think he will be good for Aston Villa, but that was a disaster debut for the club, really bad.
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: Uh, and also his his central defender should also be thanking him because, at least in my eyes, he's taken a lot of the criticism because Pau Torres was disaster.
- 38:36SPEAKER_02: Victor Windeloff, own goal, disaster.
- 38:39SPEAKER_02: So really not good at all from Villa.
- 38:41SPEAKER_02: We won't belabor the point too much.
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: Villa will get better, I'm sure.
- 38:45SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 38:45SPEAKER_02: I also have to give a quick team stinker of the week out, Brandon.
- 38:49SPEAKER_02: And this is just an attitude thing I picked up on.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: Lewis Hall, young kid, picks up that foul in the box that gives the penalties to Zabasly, which is the last kick of the game, essentially.
- 39:00SPEAKER_02: Liverpool draws equal, game ends, and Lewis Hall says distraught.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: Like he's clearly upset with himself.
- 39:08SPEAKER_02: Shirt over his eyes, over his head, just standing, just kind of like puzzled as to how that happened.
- 39:15SPEAKER_02: And the camera was on him for I would say a good minute and a half in total, two separate shots.
- 39:20SPEAKER_02: Not one teammate over there consoling him.
- 39:22SPEAKER_02: And I'm sure that did happen in the locker room, but I think that needs to be a priority when something like that happens, especially to a young kid.
- 39:28SPEAKER_02: You gotta go put your arm around him and say, you know, it won't happen.
- 39:32SPEAKER_02: Hey, head up, won't happen again.
- 39:34SPEAKER_02: You know, like there's things you could do in that moment, and maybe they did happen off camera, but I I'm looking at Newcastle's leadership a little bit differently after that.
- 39:41SPEAKER_01: Fair.
- 39:42SPEAKER_01: Absolutely fair.
- 39:43SPEAKER_01: I think those moments mean so much.
- 39:46SPEAKER_01: And to you and I, it's yeah, just go give your guy a handshake, a hug, whatever it is.
- 39:52SPEAKER_01: Because it's week one and there's 38 weeks, and if that lingers, he's gonna come in next week and he won't play with the confidence he needs to play in.
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: And that just creates more mistakes and and and more mess ups.
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: So yeah, it's it's unfortunate to see.
- 40:05SPEAKER_01: Sometimes you see in the Premier League, the guys will even push the camera away a little bit and say, hey, like, take it easy on our guy.
- 40:12SPEAKER_01: But for them not to do that, uh and for the camera to be on him for that long, that's un that's unfortunate.
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: And you really hope in the locker room they took care of him.
- 40:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so we give out a lot of the positive awards.
- 40:23SPEAKER_02: We're willing to give out more than one.
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: We only do give out one stinker.
- 40:26SPEAKER_02: We don't want to fill everybody with some bad negative energy.
- 40:31SPEAKER_02: So we we have a couple people who are lucky.
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: And I'm looking at you, Lucas, and I'm looking at you, Newcastle.
- 40:35SPEAKER_02: So I think, Brandon, that does a good job on the Premier League.
- 40:38SPEAKER_02: We've covered it in detail.
- 40:40SPEAKER_02: The structure of these shows that will come out on Monday mornings will be a Premier League recap, and then we're going to get into a little MLS section and a little Euro section.
- 40:49SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be Brandon's MLS ISO.
- 40:52SPEAKER_02: I'm just gonna toss him the ball, I'm gonna let him cook, and we'll see what he gives us.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: No, thank you, Sean.
- 40:57SPEAKER_01: I appreciate it.
- 40:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, MLS, uh, we had actually two games this past week.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: A lot of teams played midweek and then on the weekend.
- 41:04SPEAKER_01: Some notable results that I saw.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: Vancouver beat Dallas 5-0, which is a pretty hefty win.
- 41:12SPEAKER_01: Uh, Vancouver's doing very well in the West, even though they lost our boy, said Berhalter.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: Minnesota beat San Jose 5-1.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: Very puzzling result.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: And it was on the road as well, uh, in San Jose.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: San Jose is, I believe, fourth in the West.
- 41:27SPEAKER_01: Minnesota is a little bit further down the table.
- 41:29SPEAKER_01: So for Minnesota to come in and just absolutely wax them is pretty interesting.
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: Sean, if you actually get a chance, the very end of the game, the game's over, they're up by four goals, nothing's happening.
- 41:40SPEAKER_01: All of a sudden, the referee stops the game.
- 41:42SPEAKER_01: I believe it's like the 91st minute, and there's just a baby running on the field, like a human child just running on the field.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: Gets scooped up by a staffer and like they take him off.
- 41:53SPEAKER_01: But I don't know if they had like pitch side seats, and a parent looked away for a second, but and it and it's like a young, young baby.
- 42:00SPEAKER_01: It's not like a five-year-old.
- 42:01SPEAKER_01: This kid's probably under two, uh, just running on the field.
- 42:05SPEAKER_01: So that's that's what it meant to San Jose, I guess.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: In over in the east, Nashville's really, really coming along, Sean.
- 42:13SPEAKER_01: Uh, they're up 10 points in the east with 40, 49 points with about 13 games left.
- 42:17SPEAKER_01: Most teams have around 13 to 14 games left.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: So they've really cemented a spot.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: Honestly, they're probably already clinched a playoff spot with the way the MLS playoffs work, but they they look very strong.
- 42:30SPEAKER_01: Probably should win the supporters' shield as well, which is the top overall points in the regular season between both conferences.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: And then Philly, the last thing I'll say is Philly's hot, Sean.
- 42:39SPEAKER_01: Uh, since the the new coach Ryan Richter came in, they've got 14 out of 18 total points, possible points, which is great.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: Four wins and two ties, including a tie against Miami and a tie against Austin uh this weekend.
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: So in in Austin as well.
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: So yeah, Philly's hot.
- 42:58SPEAKER_01: They're they're still actually outside of the playoff picture, but working their way back in.
- 43:03SPEAKER_01: And if they keep it up, they'll they'll definitely make the playoffs.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: So they're definitely a team to watch.
- 43:07SPEAKER_01: Kevin Sullivan, obviously, as we've mentioned uh on this podcast, future, hopefully future US men's national team star.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: Uh, maybe we'll see a call-up for him in the September window.
- 43:17SPEAKER_01: I would love to I'd love to see that, Sean.
- 43:19SPEAKER_01: And the way he's been playing with the team, you would never guess that he's 16.
- 43:23SPEAKER_01: He plays like an adult, and it's great to see.
- 43:26SPEAKER_01: So that's kind of what I got in MLS.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: Still trudging along.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: We actually have the League Cup, Leagues Cup quarterfinals uh this week.
- 43:34SPEAKER_01: Um because they stopped it for a bit and now it's back.
- 43:38SPEAKER_01: It's odd.
- 43:39SPEAKER_01: Some team like there's some MLS teams that are playing in other MLS team stadiums.
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: It's it's a little messy.
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: I will fully admit my eyes are not on that at all at this point.
- 43:49SPEAKER_01: Maybe I'll watch the final when it gets to it.
- 43:50SPEAKER_01: But we have four four MLS teams left, four Liga MX teams left.
- 43:54SPEAKER_01: Uh, so that will be going on as well.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: But yeah, we're we're in the deep and thick of the MLS season right now.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: I love to hear it, Brandon.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: I thought you did a good job there keeping us up to date on the MLS.
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: And we'll go more into depth on the MLS and some of these other European teams that we're going to touch on in the review episodes, but in the midweek episode, we'll go a bit deeper on some other just hot button issues in the world of football.
- 44:17SPEAKER_02: So a good job there.
- 44:18SPEAKER_02: And I do have a little MLS update for you too.
- 44:20SPEAKER_02: This is a personal one.
- 44:21SPEAKER_02: I have a front runner.
- 44:23SPEAKER_02: I have a front runner for who my favorite team is going to be.
- 44:26SPEAKER_02: Give me a give me a uh hint, East or West.
- 44:29SPEAKER_02: They're in the East.
- 44:31SPEAKER_02: And I have been to their stadium.
- 44:34SPEAKER_01: Okay, listeners.
- 44:35SPEAKER_01: I have been to their stadium from Sean Boyle as crazy because this man is in a different city every weekend.
- 44:41SPEAKER_01: So that really doesn't eliminate too many teams.
- 44:44SPEAKER_01: I will go.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: I'll go.
- 44:50SPEAKER_01: Oh, where has Sean Boyle been?
- 44:52SPEAKER_01: You've probably been to Charlotte.
- 44:54SPEAKER_02: I'll take Charlotte.
- 44:55SPEAKER_02: Nope, it is not Charlotte.
- 44:56SPEAKER_02: Not a bad guess.
- 44:57SPEAKER_02: I have been to Charlotte, but oh actually, I guess because they play at the Panthers Stadium.
- 45:01SPEAKER_02: They do.
- 45:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:02SPEAKER_02: So I have been to that.
- 45:03SPEAKER_02: But no, it is not Charlotte.
- 45:04SPEAKER_02: It is FC Cincinnati.
- 45:07SPEAKER_02: Alright.
- 45:08SPEAKER_02: So I like I like Evander.
- 45:11SPEAKER_02: I'm a big Vander fan, Brandon.
- 45:13SPEAKER_02: I like what I see from him.
- 45:14SPEAKER_02: And I like the Bailey.
- 45:16SPEAKER_02: That's their that's their supporters section.
- 45:18SPEAKER_02: I I really do like FC Cincinnati.
- 45:20SPEAKER_02: I'm liking what I'm seeing.
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: Sean, that is a fantastic shout.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: We can get into it more, you know, off-camera or on another episode, but Chicago sorry, FC Cincinnati is actually run by a lot of ex-philadelphia union employees.
- 45:34SPEAKER_01: Uh their gaffer is a guy that was an assistant at Philly.
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: Their sporting director was in Philly.
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: They've had they've had a couple players that played in Philly as well.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: I've been to FC Cincinnati.
- 45:44SPEAKER_01: I've not been to their new stadium since they opened it.
- 45:46SPEAKER_01: I was there when they played at the University of Cincinnati Bearcats Footballer Stadium, which is which is a good spot.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: That's a six stadium.
- 45:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but yeah, they they get it rocking there.
- 45:57SPEAKER_01: They're good, good group of people.
- 46:00SPEAKER_01: Um, it's it's not a bad shot from you.
- 46:02SPEAKER_01: Of course, being in in the east, it's a little rough to swallow because you got Philly right here, but definitely not a bad shot from you.
- 46:08SPEAKER_01: I I like that.
- 46:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, when I lived in Lexington, they were only about an hour 20 away.
- 46:12SPEAKER_02: So I I did make my way up there a couple of times for FC Cinciti games.
- 46:16SPEAKER_02: So they're the leader in the clubhouse, it's not a done deal yet, but before the playoffs, you'll have my final answer.
- 46:20SPEAKER_02: So just wanted to keep you up to date on that.
- 46:23SPEAKER_02: I like that.
- 46:23SPEAKER_02: We're gonna do our Euro Trip section now.
- 46:26SPEAKER_02: Yes, please.
- 46:27SPEAKER_02: Shout out Euro Trip, the movie, little Matt Damon, Scotty doesn't know, one of the best cameos of all time.
- 46:31SPEAKER_02: I have a lot in La Liga, so that's where I'll begin.
- 46:34SPEAKER_02: Basically, we had Real Madrid and Barcelona keep pace.
- 46:37SPEAKER_02: They started the season with wins.
- 46:39SPEAKER_02: It's basically going to be seeing how each of those two teams perform on a weekly basis.
- 46:43SPEAKER_02: The title usually comes down between them.
- 46:45SPEAKER_02: You don't want to be the team that blinks first.
- 46:47SPEAKER_02: Both teams got their seasons underway with wins in a lot different fashion from one another.
- 46:52SPEAKER_02: Barcelona, cruise control, dominant performance.
- 46:56SPEAKER_02: Real Madrid, not so much, Brandon.
- 46:57SPEAKER_02: Jose's boys, they needed a 90th minute winner in his return to the club, but they got it from Carlos Espy scores the winner.
- 47:05SPEAKER_02: And just a good job by them, Jude.
- 47:07SPEAKER_02: They're running around, played a good game.
- 47:10SPEAKER_02: I think they're going to be scenes the whole season.
- 47:12SPEAKER_02: I think we should lead that Euro section with Real Madrid as many weeks as we possibly could.
- 47:17SPEAKER_02: Elsewhere in La Liga, Atletico Madrid did blink first in their second game of the season.
- 47:22SPEAKER_02: They drew, they had a man sent off.
- 47:25SPEAKER_02: Le Normand got a red card.
- 47:26SPEAKER_02: I was watching this, Brandon.
- 47:29SPEAKER_02: It was a questionable red, and because of that, Diego Simeone lost his mind.
- 47:34SPEAKER_02: He almost got a red as well.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: He was going nuts.
- 47:37SPEAKER_02: They end up drawing with Villarreal 2-2.
- 47:39SPEAKER_02: Both of Villarreal goals come from penalties.
- 47:42SPEAKER_02: He was not happy.
- 47:43SPEAKER_02: He was not happy.
- 47:44SPEAKER_02: They did draw a level.
- 47:45SPEAKER_02: His son scores the equalizer to get a point from the match.
- 47:50SPEAKER_02: It was absolute seeds.
- 47:51SPEAKER_02: And that's what you expect with an Atletico Madrid match.
- 47:53SPEAKER_02: That's the good stuff.
- 47:54SPEAKER_02: So I always will tune into them when I can.
- 47:56SPEAKER_02: Also in La Liga, Real Betis, they beat Real Sociedad on Friday night.
- 48:01SPEAKER_02: And I just want to shout them out because they're playing Champions League football this year.
- 48:04SPEAKER_02: They're returning for the first time in a while, so they'll be around people's radars.
- 48:08SPEAKER_02: They play such an exciting game.
- 48:10SPEAKER_02: They have Isko playing in through balls to Troy Parrott, the old Tottenham Academy kid.
- 48:15SPEAKER_02: He's signed as their number nine.
- 48:17SPEAKER_02: He'll start next week.
- 48:18SPEAKER_02: They are just a fun group.
- 48:20SPEAKER_02: They have Cucho Hernandez from the Columbus crew.
- 48:23SPEAKER_02: They have Gio Celso from Tottenham.
- 48:26SPEAKER_02: They have some ballers.
- 48:27SPEAKER_02: They have Anthony, who flopped massively at Manchester United.
- 48:31SPEAKER_02: He is a different player in La Liga.
- 48:33SPEAKER_02: He's so good for Real Betis.
- 48:35SPEAKER_02: So they're a fun group to watch.
- 48:37SPEAKER_02: I don't know how their game will translate to some of these more athletic physical sides, but in La Liga, I think they'll do pretty well.
- 48:42SPEAKER_02: We'll move on quickly to Germany.
- 48:44SPEAKER_02: They had the Super Cup this weekend, which is essentially the community shield.
- 48:48SPEAKER_02: We should point out that Bayern Munich, once again, won a trophy in Germany.
- 48:52SPEAKER_02: They beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1.
- 48:54SPEAKER_02: Nothing new there, Brandon.
- 48:55SPEAKER_02: It was a glorified friendly of sorts.
- 48:58SPEAKER_02: Guys just getting in shape.
- 48:59SPEAKER_02: The only thing that was a takeaway for me was Michael Elise had a funny interaction with the ref that was caught on ref cam.
- 49:04SPEAKER_02: He was basically at halftime, like, they fouled us 10 times and they have no yellow cards.
- 49:09SPEAKER_02: We have fouled them once.
- 49:10SPEAKER_02: We have a yellow card.
- 49:11SPEAKER_02: He's like, could you just like explain what's going on?
- 49:13SPEAKER_02: It was pretty good.
- 49:14SPEAKER_02: So I was happy that that was released into the internet world.
- 49:17SPEAKER_02: That was good to see.
- 49:19SPEAKER_02: The last thing we'll talk about, just quickly, Syria.
- 49:22SPEAKER_02: First weekend of play, teams just trying not to lose, and for the most part, so far, all of the big sides have avoided a hiccup.
- 49:28SPEAKER_02: We saw Juventus win, Inter Milan win, Milan win, and Napoli all get the job done.
- 49:34SPEAKER_02: Roma start their season on Monday.
- 49:36SPEAKER_02: We'll see how they do.
- 49:38SPEAKER_02: That'll be a good one as well.
- 49:39SPEAKER_02: But nothing of note in Serie A.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: PSG, if we could take a quick trip to La Liga, I'll only bring them up because it is a farmers league.
- 49:48SPEAKER_02: I'll only bring them up when something of note happens.
- 49:50SPEAKER_02: PSG were losing 2-0 to Stade Ren before Ferran Torres comes off the bench and scores a brace to tie the game.
- 49:58SPEAKER_02: They do end up dropping points in the first game of the season for them, so that's interesting.
- 50:02SPEAKER_02: A 1-1 or a 2-2 draw.
- 50:05SPEAKER_02: Not the best result for PSG.
- 50:07SPEAKER_02: I'm sure they'll be fine, but it's just something to keep an eye on.
- 50:10SPEAKER_01: No, thank you, Sean.
- 50:11SPEAKER_01: I I appreciate the uh the updates, especially because as we get into the Champions League season, most of the teams that you mentioned are probably in or around the Champions League or Europa League.
- 50:22SPEAKER_01: So it's good to have some more contacts on some of these teams, not just how they play in league form, because a lot of their leagues, there's two or three dogs, and everyone else are puppies.
- 50:34SPEAKER_01: So it's good to get some uh some insight on those teams, and I I appreciate your your uh diligence on that.
- 50:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think it'll be good, like you said, just kind of keeping our finger on the pulse.
- 50:45SPEAKER_02: So we're not just talking about the Premier League.
- 50:47SPEAKER_02: We'll have the midweek show where we can dive deeper on anything that comes up or some fallout from the weekend.
- 50:52SPEAKER_02: I think in these weekend recaps, we'll focus on the Premier League.
- 50:54SPEAKER_02: That's where most of our work will be done, but we'll keep you up to date on what's happening domestically, and we'll keep you up to date what's happening abroad.
- 51:01SPEAKER_02: I think that's all for this one, Brandon.
- 51:03SPEAKER_02: I'm excited for Wednesday.
- 51:04SPEAKER_02: We'll recap maybe some of the US MNT performances from those players and how they started their seasons.
- 51:09SPEAKER_02: We'll get into that in the next episode.
- 51:11SPEAKER_02: I think going forward, there's gonna be a lot to talk about.
- 51:14SPEAKER_02: So we don't have to spend as much time preparing and making up our own predictions.
- 51:18SPEAKER_02: We will be reacting to some football, which is exciting.
- 51:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's it's we'll let the pros do their jobs and and we just got to be the talking heads.
- 51:25SPEAKER_01: So yeah, sign me up, Sean.
- 51:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so much easier, you know?
- 51:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, my prep this week was watching football.
- 51:31SPEAKER_02: What a treat.
- 51:32SPEAKER_02: Happy worse to like it could be a lot worse, my friend.
- 51:35SPEAKER_02: It could be a lot worse.
- 51:37SPEAKER_02: That's well said.
- 51:38SPEAKER_02: Brandon, thank you as always for joining me.
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: Always.
- 51:41SPEAKER_01: Thank you, Sean.
- 51:41SPEAKER_01: Thank you for having me and excited to keep doing this with you.
- 51:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's been great.
- 51:47SPEAKER_02: It will continue to get better.
- 51:49SPEAKER_02: Listeners, thank you all for tuning in.
