- 1:26Speaker 3: accused of murdering a Texas man of Venezuelan charged with
- 1:30Speaker 3: filming and selling child pornography in Michigan. These are just
- 1:34Speaker 3: some of the heinous migrant criminals caught because of President
- 1:38Speaker 3: Donald J. Trump's leadership. I'm Christy Noman, the United States
- 1:42Speaker 3: Secretary of Homeland Security. Under President Trump, attempted illegal border
- 1:46Speaker 3: crossings are at the lowest levels ever recorded, and over
- 1:50Speaker 3: one hundred thousand illegal aliens have been arrested. If you
- 1:53Speaker 3: are here illegally, your next you will be fine nearly
- 1:57Speaker 3: one thousand dollars a day in prison and deport it.

- 2:04Speaker 3: CBP home app and leave now, you could be allowed
- 2:07Speaker 3: to return legally. Do what's right. Leave now. Under President Trump,
- 2:13Speaker 3: America's laws, border and families will be protected.
- 2:16Speaker 4: Sponsored by the United States Department of Homeland Security, when
- 2:19Speaker 4: you're building something, you gotta love it. You gotta really
- 2:24Speaker 4: love it, you gotta really Everybody ain't built to really
- 2:28Speaker 4: build companies that if they really understand what goes into it.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Seeing the end result is cool. But when I meet
- 2:37Speaker 4: like an Elon Musk and when I meet these people,
- 2:39Speaker 4: I want to know what did you have to go through?
- 2:42Speaker 4: Versus I don't care about your billions that you got,
- 2:45Speaker 4: How did you get to that? What did you have
- 2:47Speaker 4: to endure? What did you have to suffer? Dealing with
- 2:50Speaker 4: all that emotion? A lot of people crack.
- 2:55Speaker 5: My graduates from my school being forced back drop bags drop, Mike,
- 3:01Speaker 5: drop backdrop drop.
- 3:14Speaker 6: When we have the honor of speaking to legends and
- 3:17Speaker 6: goats in the game, we don't take it lightly. And
- 3:21Speaker 6: you know, whenever we speak to somebody that has such
- 3:25Speaker 6: a high level of information and such a extremely strong pedigree,
- 3:30Speaker 6: we learn, Like we learn ourselves when we interview Mark
- 3:33Speaker 6: cut and we learn when we interview Shack, we learn,
- 3:36Speaker 6: when we interview you name it, Steve Harvey, we learn.
- 3:40Speaker 6: So it's like, if we're learning, you guys should learn
- 3:42Speaker 6: as well.
- 3:43Speaker 1: So you know, the drill man.
- 3:45Speaker 6: We're about to bring out one of the greatest of
- 3:47Speaker 6: all time. People throw that term gold around too loosely,
- 3:51Speaker 6: people throw that golt around too loosely.
- 3:53Speaker 1: But there's only a few goats.
- 3:55Speaker 6: When you're talking about Timberland, you're talking about over twenty
- 3:58Speaker 6: five years, consistently the number one, number one, number one
- 4:02Speaker 6: number one from Aliyah to Missy to j C. Like
- 4:06Speaker 6: this is. This is not a regular person. This is
- 4:09Speaker 6: not somebody that has done anything normal. This is extremely extraordinary.
- 4:13Speaker 6: And then to reinvent himself with versus change the game again.
- 4:20Speaker 1: It's going to be one of those nights. I told
- 4:22Speaker 1: you what time will be had.
- 4:23Speaker 6: So so I need a round of applause for my
- 4:28Speaker 6: brother Tim Bull to kick.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Timothy, let's go. Let's go.
- 4:44Speaker 4: The a leg Thank you, thank you, legend legends only man.
- 4:49Speaker 4: Look at all these beautiful people in here.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Yeah, Miami looking Wow.
- 4:54Speaker 4: I like this ship, Tim all right, So we're gonna
- 4:59Speaker 4: get into it first and foremost, thank you for coming, bro.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I appreciate you, man, Thank you for having me. Man.
- 5:04Speaker 1: I'm a fan of what y'all doing.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Man, I've been watching for like about two years now,
- 5:10Speaker 4: and I see the evolution of what y'all doing, and
- 5:12Speaker 4: I try to take tips, but y'all go so damn fans,
- 5:16Speaker 4: I'm a little so I gotta be like, let me
- 5:18Speaker 4: wind that back.
- 5:19Speaker 6: Be connected now. So you know that's easy man. So
- 5:23Speaker 6: I'm not even gonna waste any time. Man, I'm gonna
- 5:25Speaker 6: get right into it. And I want to talk about versus.
- 5:29Speaker 6: Want to talk about it's a legendary versus. First and foremost,
- 5:35Speaker 6: where did the idea start for versus?
- 5:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest.
- 5:41Speaker 4: When the pandemic hit, I always had this kind of
- 5:45Speaker 4: like joke that like I said, what did the world stop?
- 5:48Speaker 4: What people do? And I felt like the world was
- 5:53Speaker 4: kind of funny. It felt weird anyway. And I was
- 5:56Speaker 4: in Milan and released and then Mulan. This was crazy.
- 6:03Speaker 4: I saw somebody at the airport like a zombie. I
- 6:05Speaker 4: was like, Yo, what the what fuck going on? So
- 6:08Speaker 4: I get back to the US. They it was a
- 6:11Speaker 4: show and it was like, Oh, they think they're going
- 6:13Speaker 4: to councel the show.
- 6:14Speaker 1: There is a disease out in the ad. I said, oh,
- 6:17Speaker 1: here go.
- 6:18Speaker 4: And I thought it was like a joke at first,
- 6:20Speaker 4: not really, but I was like, okay when it happened.
- 6:25Speaker 4: I think everybody, as entertainers, as us. We couldn't do nothing,
- 6:30Speaker 4: and we really had to really sit down and slow
- 6:33Speaker 4: down and really learn how the fellowship. I felt like
- 6:36Speaker 4: that was missing, and the pandemic kind of brought that together.
- 6:41Speaker 4: So me and Swiss was we had an idea that
- 6:44Speaker 4: was brewing for like three and a half years. We
- 6:47Speaker 4: tested the model in New York during the Summer Jam
- 6:52Speaker 4: and we was going to do an album with the
- 6:54Speaker 4: versus he do his side.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Swiss versus Kanye.
- 6:58Speaker 4: He started like with that, but the real thing and
- 7:00Speaker 4: we want you the other dude is when me and
- 7:02Speaker 4: him connected, we was gonna do albums together like and
- 7:06Speaker 4: then do a verse, bring his side and my side.
- 7:09Speaker 4: So we kind of tried to battle in real life
- 7:13Speaker 4: at that event at the Summer.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Jam, and we did a versus.
- 7:17Speaker 4: So when the pandemic happened, I called him one day
- 7:20Speaker 4: and we were just chopping it up, like, man, can
- 7:22Speaker 4: he believe this? We we can't do nothing. We can't
- 7:24Speaker 4: get no hair cut. Your money didn't matter. It was
- 7:29Speaker 4: everybody was equal, everybody was the same. So it felt
- 7:34Speaker 4: good because a lot of times that the world was
- 7:37Speaker 4: moving so fast for no reason, you were spending unnecessary
- 7:41Speaker 4: money for no reason. So we were just catching up
- 7:44Speaker 4: on like friendship and just chopping it up. Then one
- 7:48Speaker 4: day I say, yo, I saw D Nice first, and
- 7:50Speaker 4: I saw everybody on his.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Set, and I was like, oh, this shit banging.
- 7:55Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, Like, I never knew how
- 7:57Speaker 4: good D Nice really was, and I'm like, wait a minute,
- 8:01Speaker 4: this man the truth. So the if it wasn't for
- 8:05Speaker 4: the pandemic, you wouldn't see people's real talent. So what
- 8:09Speaker 4: happened was I called Swiss. I was like, yo, remember
- 8:11Speaker 4: that idea we started. We should do it on the ground.
- 8:16Speaker 4: He's like yeah, I said, yeah, we should do that
- 8:18Speaker 4: shit right now, like in a hour.
- 8:20Speaker 1: He's like, for real, you want to do it?
- 8:22Speaker 4: And I said, fuck it, let's just have Let's just
- 8:25Speaker 4: do it, because you know, D Night really put the
- 8:27Speaker 4: battery in our backpack. So when he did that, we
- 8:30Speaker 4: did ours and it was all from love. Swiss went
- 8:33Speaker 4: down to the car, I went to my studio. He
- 8:36Speaker 4: was like, all right, let's get to it. Let's get
- 8:38Speaker 4: to I'm all about the smoke. So we went to
- 8:40Speaker 4: the smoke and there was so much love that the
- 8:43Speaker 4: love this transcended through the air, and then we built
- 8:47Speaker 4: the company off of it. We only had thirty thousand,
- 8:50Speaker 4: like people watching, I guess, but that thirty thousand turned
- 8:54Speaker 4: two six million, So that's incredible.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Clap it up for that.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Yeah, y'all, y'all definitely You and y'all in d Knights
- 9:02Speaker 2: definitely changed how we got through the pandemic. I remember
- 9:06Speaker 2: that Swiss being in the garage. I stayed up till
- 9:09Speaker 2: like three in the morning while y'all would do it. It
- 9:10Speaker 2: was incredible. But you said something to me backstage, which
- 9:13Speaker 2: is very important. Versus is a startup company, and so
- 9:18Speaker 2: kind of view it like that, at what point, as
- 9:21Speaker 2: you're collecting the talent to put on Instagram to go
- 9:24Speaker 2: against each other to celebrate music, did you realize, you
- 9:28Speaker 2: know what, this is a full fledged company.
- 9:31Speaker 1: We need to start changing how we do business. Oh.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I knew that since the pandemic hit.
- 9:36Speaker 4: I said, oh, we in the tech world is about
- 9:39Speaker 4: to boom right now. I know technology was about to
- 9:42Speaker 4: go crazy. So I said, yo, this is a business.
- 9:46Speaker 4: I don't know, Like I said, we're using this platform,
- 9:49Speaker 4: somebody else's platform to build our platform. So immediately, me
- 9:54Speaker 4: and Swiss we talked every day for this whole time
- 9:59Speaker 4: and as people. We was calling people and people was
- 10:03Speaker 4: down to do it. We was like, yo, we got
- 10:04Speaker 4: a trademark. We got to do this. We was doing
- 10:07Speaker 4: it all simultaneously, kind of like building it, you know,
- 10:12Speaker 4: just figuring it out as we go along. We didn't
- 10:14Speaker 4: know how to make the sound go this way. We
- 10:16Speaker 4: had to call people. We called rolling like yo, we
- 10:19Speaker 4: need integrative sound because they didn't know how to. So
- 10:22Speaker 4: we we and I think, you know, with God's help,
- 10:26Speaker 4: we did a pretty good job up until this point,
- 10:29Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. And it you know, sometimes
- 10:36Speaker 4: it takes planning, but the plan was already in God's
- 10:39Speaker 4: plan for us to do this, so he assigned everything,
- 10:43Speaker 4: all the steps along the way for us to do.
- 10:45Speaker 4: So we knew that there was a business, and we
- 10:48Speaker 4: started treating it like it was a business. But people
- 10:50Speaker 4: were like, oh, y'all, don't y'all don't have your own app.
- 10:54Speaker 4: I said, But we got the culture. That's that is
- 10:57Speaker 4: our app, you know.
- 10:58Speaker 1: What I'm saying.
- 10:59Speaker 4: We got the people, We got the currency, and we
- 11:01Speaker 4: knew we knew at that time everybody looking for a
- 11:04Speaker 4: currency to sell their product.
- 11:06Speaker 1: But we had people, and so we knew we had
- 11:08Speaker 1: something big.
- 11:09Speaker 4: We just had to figure out how to monetize it,
- 11:13Speaker 4: which were still doing, and how to integrate it to
- 11:16Speaker 4: make it bigger. And like I said, it's a startup,
- 11:18Speaker 4: it's still a baby. And wait till next year when
- 11:21Speaker 4: we kicked that thing off.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Boy.
- 11:25Speaker 6: So so let me ask you this because obviously eyl
- 11:29Speaker 6: is a business platform. So you guys, I want to
- 11:33Speaker 6: talk about this thriller situation.
- 11:35Speaker 1: So you got thriller.
- 11:36Speaker 6: You guys decide to sell the company?
- 11:40Speaker 1: Is that what you did?
- 11:42Speaker 4: We we sold partial and we did stop and to
- 11:48Speaker 4: the triller because we we learned about IPOs and SPACs.
- 11:52Speaker 4: So I was like, we had several deals on the table,
- 11:57Speaker 4: but we liked, this is the better deal to bet
- 12:01Speaker 4: on ourself versus going over here or over here.
- 12:05Speaker 1: And it is at the beginning stage of building this business.
- 12:08Speaker 4: And when Trilla came to us, it was an opportunity
- 12:12Speaker 4: that we know, I'm all about jumping out, you know,
- 12:17Speaker 4: in the water first and trying something new. But the
- 12:20Speaker 4: opportunity that present to us was, you know, we buy
- 12:25Speaker 4: you know, majority of the company, you get majority of
- 12:28Speaker 4: the stocks in Trilla slash versus. So it's like it
- 12:31Speaker 4: was already a platform that was built. It was the
- 12:35Speaker 4: perfect marriage for us to go and to integrate what
- 12:37Speaker 4: we have into they platform. And you know, both of startups,
- 12:42Speaker 4: but one is a little ahead of us at the time.
- 12:45Speaker 4: But to come together we know where to make it powerful.
- 12:48Speaker 4: So right now we just we came together. We're still
- 12:52Speaker 4: working through kinks because it is a startup and it's
- 12:54Speaker 4: two startups trying to learn one another, you know. And
- 12:58Speaker 4: I think the beauty about it is it's our team.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Our versus team is so strong.
- 13:03Speaker 4: You know, it's only six of us, but it's no,
- 13:05Speaker 4: it's no, it's no, it's no versus without the team,
- 13:10Speaker 4: and you know, and just learning people like you were
- 13:13Speaker 4: saying something about the attitude and latitude, So it's like
- 13:17Speaker 4: going through that motion and seeing who can hang through
- 13:19Speaker 4: the the you know, cause it's trials and triplations and
- 13:22Speaker 4: building a company.
- 13:23Speaker 1: And we just really getting started.
- 13:26Speaker 4: I know it seems like a phenomenon and certain things
- 13:28Speaker 4: are phenomenon, but we really just really touching the base
- 13:32Speaker 4: on where we can go. We really have like a
- 13:34Speaker 4: billion dollar company along, you know what I'm saying, But
- 13:36Speaker 4: it's gonna take time to get there, you know what I'm.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Saying from from an artists standpoint, because I mean, you
- 13:43Speaker 2: were celebrating artists that almost were forgotten about their greatness.
- 13:47Speaker 1: And so I know part of the structure.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Of the deal was that are the people who performed
- 13:52Speaker 2: became owners in that. What's in the reaction from the
- 13:56Speaker 2: people who are now your partners, like yo, yo, I
- 13:59Speaker 2: p you saved my music hereer Like how's it been
- 14:01Speaker 2: for y'all?
- 14:03Speaker 4: You know, like I said, the pandemic brought so much
- 14:07Speaker 4: love me and Swiss wanted to be the first that,
- 14:10Speaker 4: you know, calling these artists to get on a live
- 14:15Speaker 4: to perform. It's only right, y'all help us build this company.
- 14:18Speaker 4: We got to give back to y'all and nobody's never
- 14:22Speaker 4: done that. And when it comes to you know, black
- 14:25Speaker 4: business and really teaching our culture, and I think y'all
- 14:28Speaker 4: the best at doing that.
- 14:29Speaker 1: So it's like I want to.
- 14:32Speaker 4: Say, we kind of took a page from y'all book
- 14:35Speaker 4: a little bit, you know what I'm saying, But like
- 14:38Speaker 4: you know, as but I would have to say, Swiss,
- 14:41Speaker 4: we was like we made a call, we said something
- 14:44Speaker 4: about this don't feel right, and that was the biggest
- 14:46Speaker 4: thing that made us stick with trilla because they say, Yo,
- 14:49Speaker 4: the only way we're going to go and do this,
- 14:51Speaker 4: and we can bring our people with us and they
- 14:53Speaker 4: get part of the pie because anybody else is gonna
- 14:56Speaker 4: be like nah nah. But we knew if it wasn't
- 14:59Speaker 4: you me and switch out on the phone before we
- 15:01Speaker 4: got to that point, before we went to app or
- 15:03Speaker 4: all those things. We called forty three artists and if
- 15:07Speaker 4: you know what dealing with an artist that's like, you know,
- 15:11Speaker 4: I can't, I don't want to describe it. It's a
- 15:14Speaker 4: lot of work. It's a lot of work, and we
- 15:16Speaker 4: really believed in it. And we didn't make no money
- 15:21Speaker 4: for like about two years, like you know, two years
- 15:24Speaker 4: just off of the love, just building a platform.
- 15:27Speaker 1: And we're still building, you know what I'm saying.
- 15:29Speaker 4: So it's a it's a hell of a journey.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Can you talk about that?
- 15:35Speaker 2: And that's a valuable jem And that's something that we
- 15:37Speaker 2: experienced the first two years of the first year and
- 15:39Speaker 2: a half really of building ear A Lisia. It was like, look,
- 15:42Speaker 2: we're not taking any money. All the money we get,
- 15:44Speaker 2: if we get money, we're going to put back into
- 15:46Speaker 2: building the business.
- 15:47Speaker 1: You're doing it off the love.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Obviously, your experienced musicians and have a Hall of Fame
- 15:51Speaker 2: careers on your crafts. But what did y'all learn during
- 15:54Speaker 2: that time? It was like did it become frustrating? Like, Yo,
- 15:58Speaker 2: we're doing this, there's no compensation. It's just brou It's.
- 16:01Speaker 4: Frustrating every day because you know, as you when you're
- 16:05Speaker 4: building something, you gotta love it. You gotta really love it,
- 16:10Speaker 4: you gotta really Everybody ain't built to really build companies
- 16:15Speaker 4: that if they really understand what goes into it.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Seeing the end result is cool.
- 16:21Speaker 4: But when I meet like an Elon Musk and when
- 16:24Speaker 4: I meet these people, I want to.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Know what did you have to go through? Versus?
- 16:29Speaker 4: I don't care about your billions that you got, How
- 16:31Speaker 4: did you get to that? What did you have to endure?
- 16:34Speaker 4: What did you have to suffer? And now building this company,
- 16:38Speaker 4: I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa.
- 16:42Speaker 4: Then you got the people like me getting another versus
- 16:45Speaker 4: woman getting another versus I'm like, well, hold on, hold on,
- 16:48Speaker 4: hold on, it's coming, it's coming. And it's like dealing
- 16:50Speaker 4: with all that emotion. A lot of people crack. You
- 16:54Speaker 4: know what I'm saying that you know, and I you
- 16:56Speaker 4: know when they talking about the pivot and being an entrepreneur,
- 17:01Speaker 4: it really takes a will, a share will to this
- 17:06Speaker 4: goal to go and two years of just the love.
- 17:11Speaker 4: You gotta love it, you gotta And I thought what
- 17:13Speaker 4: we was doing, it wasn't so much about the money.
- 17:16Speaker 1: We was helping people revive they catalogs.
- 17:20Speaker 4: That was the thing making people forget, not forget about
- 17:24Speaker 4: this music from our great people like yo, y'all forgot
- 17:27Speaker 4: about this because I felt like we felt like black
- 17:31Speaker 4: music and the creators wasn't getting the love that they deserved.
- 17:34Speaker 4: So when people when you're doing stuff like that, giving back,
- 17:38Speaker 4: because I love to give back, you don't really think
- 17:40Speaker 4: about the money because I'd rather have a rich spirit
- 17:45Speaker 4: than the money. You know what I'm saying. I want
- 17:47Speaker 4: my I want my spirit to be rich and feel
- 17:50Speaker 4: like it's filled with a lot of love because I.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Know God got me. I know God got me.
- 17:54Speaker 4: If I keep if I keep going the way I'm going,
- 17:58Speaker 4: God got me.
- 17:59Speaker 6: So let me ask you this because Thriller is up
- 18:02Speaker 6: for I p O. I think sometime in the fourth
- 18:05Speaker 6: quarter they said they made one hundred million dollars in revenue,
- 18:08Speaker 6: this year. So when you was doing that deal, was
- 18:12Speaker 6: having some level of equity in stocks a major consideration
- 18:18Speaker 6: for that.
- 18:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean we we we giving away our IP.
- 18:23Speaker 4: You know, like if you follow the beat steals, it
- 18:26Speaker 4: goes through stages of certain deals. So this is like
- 18:29Speaker 4: a stage where I'm still learning about I pos S
- 18:35Speaker 4: One's corporation. So I started watching my we work billions
- 18:39Speaker 4: movies like like every every week, you know what I'm saying,
- 18:42Speaker 4: because I gotta I don't want to be the dummy
- 18:45Speaker 4: on the phone. I got to know what's Oh, I
- 18:47Speaker 4: know what that is. Let me see the S one?
- 18:49Speaker 4: What did that say? How long do it take? So
- 18:52Speaker 4: it's just it's a learning process. But I knew betting
- 18:55Speaker 4: on yourself for the for the n ride, it's the
- 18:58Speaker 4: better way to go. When they put the stocks and
- 19:01Speaker 4: it was already value a at a two point five
- 19:04Speaker 4: valuation and getting all these shares in the company and
- 19:08Speaker 4: being the biggest shop i mean stockholder of the company,
- 19:11Speaker 4: it only makes sense to take this ride. You're the
- 19:13Speaker 4: biggest stockholder, Yeah, were the biggest the biggest Yeah, yeah,
- 19:19Speaker 4: like we want of the biggest stockholders a trailer.
- 19:22Speaker 2: I mean, this is incredible I'm listening to Temple and
- 19:25Speaker 2: the guy grew up. He's talking about S one's spats,
- 19:30Speaker 2: and I p o.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Hey, man, that's a sign of the times, right, clapping
- 19:33Speaker 1: up for.
- 19:33Speaker 4: This moment, y'all. I'm trying, man, I'm still learning. Hey,
- 19:37Speaker 4: I gotta keep watching y'all because y'all, y'all.
- 19:39Speaker 1: More market y'all teach finance.
- 19:41Speaker 4: Finance wasn't like my thing, and that's why that's why
- 19:43Speaker 4: I did.
- 19:43Speaker 1: That's it.
- 19:44Speaker 4: I got to get close to these guys because the
- 19:46Speaker 4: level I'm about to go to, I can't fuck it up,
- 19:52Speaker 4: you know, So I'm just it's a journey, man, It's
- 19:55Speaker 4: a journey. So what was the lawsuit about? When you
- 19:57Speaker 4: guys have suit? You know, the suit was really just
- 20:03Speaker 4: just showing like, you know, like we don't want to
- 20:05Speaker 4: be the guys that not really just on our business.
- 20:08Speaker 4: It was it was a matter of miscommunication. And you know,
- 20:12Speaker 4: as you go through certain procedures with new companies and
- 20:17Speaker 4: everybody's going through the fundraising round. When you're doing that,
- 20:21Speaker 4: it gets a little shaky, little turbulence, and I think
- 20:23Speaker 4: communication kind of got a misconstrued through the through the
- 20:27Speaker 4: times and things were hard, but we just just kind
- 20:31Speaker 4: of like a wake up call, like you know, hey,
- 20:34Speaker 4: but it was like it kind of we was talking
- 20:38Speaker 4: about it and this is the thing that we tested it.
- 20:40Speaker 4: We were just talking about it, and as we're talking
- 20:43Speaker 4: it with our people, the shit got out. It just leaked.
- 20:46Speaker 4: Like I'm like, oh, this leak shit real damn. You
- 20:49Speaker 4: can't even have a conversation behind like.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Like anything negative. It seemed like it just whooped go out.
- 20:55Speaker 4: But I knew like once it when I was like,
- 20:57Speaker 4: all right, well, we can't do nothing now but try
- 21:01Speaker 4: to redeem and fix things. And that's where we're at
- 21:03Speaker 4: with it now. You know, people fight and make up.
- 21:06Speaker 4: You know, brothers, you fight, break up, make up, you
- 21:09Speaker 4: know all that type ship, soul business.
- 21:11Speaker 2: You know what it is exactly in terms of the
- 21:14Speaker 2: future of Verses because you said it's coming back. I
- 21:16Speaker 2: think the last time we saw versus ray J was
- 21:20Speaker 2: singing is a rendition of our wish. I was there,
- 21:22Speaker 2: We were there, We were there. Yeah, we met the
- 21:24Speaker 2: we met the whole team.
- 21:24Speaker 4: Shout out was not prepared, yo, But was it not entertaining?
- 21:32Speaker 1: That was it was definitely that.
- 21:34Speaker 2: It was definitely that it was where we're still talking
- 21:37Speaker 2: about it.
- 21:37Speaker 1: We are. I'm still talking about it. You know. We
- 21:41Speaker 1: had some amazing verses right that. We was at the
- 21:44Speaker 1: best Verson.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Well, we were at the We were at the garden
- 21:48Speaker 2: when the lots represent.
- 21:51Speaker 1: We was there. We was there. Yo. I never felt
- 21:55Speaker 1: New York like that ever.
- 21:57Speaker 4: It was like and I went to that when I
- 22:00Speaker 4: was like doing COVID and everybody was out there partying,
- 22:02Speaker 4: I say, okay, everybody, don't get sick.
- 22:03Speaker 1: But me, I had my mask on. It was fresh,
- 22:06Speaker 1: we was fresh outside. I got COVID. I did you
- 22:10Speaker 1: party too hard?
- 22:11Speaker 4: See me and Joe, we was like, see we know
- 22:14Speaker 4: how to have a good time. But safe, safe, We
- 22:18Speaker 4: would safe. But but I'm gonna tell you. I did
- 22:20Speaker 4: a lot of concerts, been with a lot of the greatest.
- 22:24Speaker 4: To me, I never seen New York like that. And
- 22:28Speaker 4: I had to say it was fact I've been with
- 22:31Speaker 4: Hole when he brought Michael Jackson out, like I never
- 22:34Speaker 4: seen it like that, like that, what Jadakiss did for
- 22:37Speaker 4: New York.
- 22:38Speaker 1: It was like it was like New York. We back.
- 22:42Speaker 4: It was like we outside. I think the term outside
- 22:46Speaker 4: came from New York. Yeah, we was outside. You know
- 22:50Speaker 4: what I'm saying. What does the future of Versus look like?
- 22:53Speaker 2: Are we still doing live concerts like we did at
- 22:55Speaker 2: MSG or are we just.
- 22:57Speaker 4: Doing on Triller? What do you see for the future?
- 22:59Speaker 4: Versus were definitely gonna do. We got some big ones
- 23:03Speaker 4: coming up, some big ones, and these big ones take time,
- 23:08Speaker 4: take a lot of time. We're trying to do one
- 23:09Speaker 4: maybe before the end of the year, but it's really
- 23:12Speaker 4: the top of the year where we're gonna start, and
- 23:15Speaker 4: we're still figuring out how we're doing it because it's
- 23:18Speaker 4: so much just coming to us.
- 23:21Speaker 1: You just gotta do the right ones.
- 23:23Speaker 4: It's so much on the plate right now that we
- 23:26Speaker 4: definitely gonna keep it. You know, it's gonna be Triller,
- 23:28Speaker 4: but we just gotta figure out how to do it
- 23:31Speaker 4: and still keep the people happy, you know what I'm saying.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Because the thing about when you do something.
- 23:39Speaker 4: That's free, sometimes you gotta know how to integrate it
- 23:42Speaker 4: to it not be free because it's still a business
- 23:45Speaker 4: and it's not that you want to charge like that,
- 23:47Speaker 4: but it's like, we gotta pay the bills of these artists.
- 23:51Speaker 1: So some people are like, oh.
- 23:52Speaker 4: Man, you're gonna take it off Instagram and now we're
- 23:54Speaker 4: gonna do that, but Instagram gotta pay us, so we
- 23:57Speaker 4: gotta do something because we gotta it gotta be you know.
- 24:00Speaker 4: So now we're at that stage where we're figuring out
- 24:03Speaker 4: things on how to do it and still keep our
- 24:05Speaker 4: audience happy and still keep.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Them like, ah, you know, ah man, y'all doing this.
- 24:11Speaker 4: We're not getting Hollywood, but we're bringing Hollywood excitement to you.
- 24:15Speaker 4: But they paid that Netflix bill, Yeah, they do right,
- 24:19Speaker 4: And didn't they raise that bitch?
- 24:21Speaker 1: They did? They did? They fucked up. Y'all can complain.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Y'all gonna pay for Netflix. Netflix ain't got shit on
- 24:27Speaker 1: that ship.
- 24:29Speaker 4: At least we give you some man, We give you
- 24:32Speaker 4: some good argument, good music stories.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Why would you want to pay for that shit? That ship?
- 24:39Speaker 4: And it's the culture and you could go to that shit.
- 24:42Speaker 4: I don't know if you've ever been to a versus them?
- 24:45Speaker 4: Shits is off the chain, ain't they are?
- 24:47Speaker 1: Like? WHOA?
- 24:49Speaker 4: I only could have been in the two because I
- 24:50Speaker 4: said this is this is out of control, the bow
- 24:54Speaker 4: Wow one out of control. They had that shit popping.
- 24:59Speaker 4: I was there, see I was going to cut when
- 25:02Speaker 4: I go to everybody like if you're like.
- 25:05Speaker 1: The club, I'm getting in with you. I'm going in
- 25:08Speaker 1: with you. I'm like, this ain't this.
- 25:11Speaker 4: Ain't lim this is versus you know what I'm saying.
- 25:15Speaker 4: But you know it is what it is. I love
- 25:17Speaker 4: our people, you know what I'm saying. It's what we do.
- 25:21Speaker 4: Any music people in the house.
- 25:23Speaker 6: All right, I want to I want to ask some
- 25:26Speaker 6: music conversations. Okay, one of the best producers ever, so
- 25:31Speaker 6: let's talk about some music publishing. How important is publishing
- 25:36Speaker 6: for a producer? What are some best ways that a
- 25:39Speaker 6: producer can make sure they get in there right amount
- 25:42Speaker 6: of publishing?
- 25:43Speaker 1: Like talk about that. You know, the business changed so much.
- 25:48Speaker 4: I feel like what I was taught with publishing was
- 25:51Speaker 4: like hold on, hold on, hold on to it is
- 25:55Speaker 4: is for your grandkids, grandkids. I think nobody saw streaming
- 26:00Speaker 4: and coming, so that kind of changed the dynamics of publishing.
- 26:04Speaker 4: So now what I would tell a producer, it's really
- 26:08Speaker 4: that's what that's where you really make your money at
- 26:10Speaker 4: now because I don't think producers back when I was
- 26:13Speaker 4: doing it, you.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Know, earners. What's up?
- 26:17Speaker 2: You ever walk into a small business and everything just works,
- 26:20Speaker 2: like the checkout is fast, the seats are digital. Tipping

- 27:32Speaker 2: but understanding a professionals routine shows us how they achieve
- 27:36Speaker 2: their success little by little, day after day. It's like
- 27:40Speaker 2: banking with P and C Bank. It might seem boring
- 27:43Speaker 2: to save, plan and make calculated decisions with your bank,
- 27:46Speaker 2: but keeping your money boring is what helps you live
- 27:49Speaker 2: or more happily fulfilled life. P and C Bank Brilliantly
- 27:53Speaker 2: Boring since eighteen sixty five. Brilliantly Boring since eighteen sixty
- 27:57Speaker 2: five is a service mark of the PNC Finance Service Group, Inc.
- 28:01Speaker 2: P and C Bank National Association.
- 28:03Speaker 3: Member a FDIC, an illegal alien from Guatemala charged with
- 28:09Speaker 3: raping a child in Massachusetts. An MS thirteen gang member
- 28:13Speaker 3: from Al Salvador accused of murdering a Texas man of
- 28:17Speaker 3: Venezuelan charged with filming and selling child pornography in Michigan.
- 28:21Speaker 3: These are just some of the heinous migrant criminals caught
- 28:25Speaker 3: because of President Donald J. Trump's leadership. I'm Christy nom
- 28:29Speaker 3: the United States Secretary of Homeland Security. Under President Trump,
- 28:33Speaker 3: attempted illegal border crossings are at the lowest levels ever recorded,
- 28:37Speaker 3: and over one hundred thousand illegal aliens have been arrested.
- 28:41Speaker 3: If you are here illegally, your next you will be fined.
- 28:45Speaker 3: Nearly one thousand dollars a day. Imprisoned and deported, you
- 28:49Speaker 3: will never return. But if you register using our CBP
- 28:53Speaker 3: home app and leave now, you could be allowed to
- 28:55Speaker 3: return legally. Do what's right? Leave now under is it
- 29:00Speaker 3: in Trump America's laws, Border and families will be protected.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Sponsored by the United States Department of Homeland Security.
- 29:06Speaker 4: We got like six hundred five hundred thousand a walk
- 29:09Speaker 4: to do a track. I don't think that's happening today.
- 29:12Speaker 4: So you have so today. I think a producer has
- 29:14Speaker 4: to rely on their catalog they publishing. But the beauty
- 29:18Speaker 4: about it, I think it's up to you. I took
- 29:22Speaker 4: an admin deal, which you know, what's that. It's like, well,
- 29:26Speaker 4: I still own my published, but they administered and they
- 29:30Speaker 4: collect my checks, but they would take it like a
- 29:33Speaker 4: eighty thirty split.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Instead of fifty to fifty or something like that.
- 29:38Speaker 4: It just it's really a publisher deal is not harmful
- 29:41Speaker 4: to you know. I think people used to put bad
- 29:44Speaker 4: stick monitors on them back in the day because the
- 29:47Speaker 4: world changed. But I think as a producer, keep building
- 29:50Speaker 4: your catalog, cash out because the multiple keeps going down.
- 29:55Speaker 1: So if like if you got one something it you said,
- 29:57Speaker 1: I'm a hold on.
- 29:58Speaker 4: So I said, well, if it's a ten x man,
- 30:01Speaker 4: you better go ahead and cash out and bill you
- 30:03Speaker 4: another catalog. Because if you're making five hundred thousand a
- 30:07Speaker 4: year on your publishing, they gonna ten x that. So
- 30:10Speaker 4: you better as well as some people might fourteen exit.
- 30:13Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, you might as well take
- 30:14Speaker 4: that cash. I think people need to follow the business
- 30:17Speaker 4: structure when it comes to publishing on the multiples or
- 30:20Speaker 4: how much they paying you per your deal. We got
- 30:23Speaker 4: tim talking about multiples now. I can't believe I'm doing
- 30:27Speaker 4: this shit.
- 30:28Speaker 2: This is matter speaking of multiples, and I'm glad you
- 30:32Speaker 2: brought up catalogs. We're in the era where we're seeing
- 30:35Speaker 2: legacy artists now sell their catalogs. Yeah, so what are
- 30:38Speaker 2: your thoughts on that from a producer standpoint? Because I
- 30:40Speaker 2: know it's at an artist that's your song, but as
- 30:43Speaker 2: the producer, I mean, you have royalty percentages of the song.
- 30:47Speaker 1: So how do yeah, how does it work in with
- 30:48Speaker 1: your thoughts?
- 30:49Speaker 4: Well, you know, I sold my catalog, I sold mys
- 30:53Speaker 4: I think it's what you work hard for.
- 30:56Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 30:56Speaker 4: So it's like you got fifty percent of the song.
- 30:58Speaker 4: The artists got fifty center of the song. I know
- 31:01Speaker 4: you saw justin so his It's really it's really like
- 31:07Speaker 4: a it's a it's a it's a I want to say,
- 31:11Speaker 4: like it's like you building up this equity of yourself
- 31:14Speaker 4: as a producer, and like you are going to as
- 31:17Speaker 4: a producer. You are going down and they'll be like, oh,
- 31:19Speaker 4: you got Drake top ten blah blah blah screaming this.
- 31:23Speaker 1: So say if it's take Key.
- 31:24Speaker 4: Or somebody, if he got fifty fifty percent of that
- 31:27Speaker 4: song and its screaming a billion, that thing going crazy,
- 31:33Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. So a lot of producers
- 31:36Speaker 4: now of making a you know, the screaming base they're
- 31:40Speaker 4: making publishing money is good right now.
- 31:44Speaker 1: I think it's good.
- 31:45Speaker 6: You know It's so crazy is that when people started
- 31:48Speaker 6: selling their catalogs, their masters and they're publishing. A lot
- 31:51Speaker 6: of people was like, that's a bad idea. And I
- 31:55Speaker 6: was kind of like believe in that until we did
- 31:58Speaker 6: an interview with somebody in London and they like, you
- 32:00Speaker 6: gotta look at it like a startup company like Eli
- 32:03Speaker 6: Musk sold PayPal for two hundred million, flip that into
- 32:08Speaker 6: almost a trillion dollars with SpaceX and Tesla, so it's
- 32:12Speaker 6: like it's a liquidation event. And interviewing IRV Gotti and
- 32:15Speaker 6: where IRV sold his catalog for one hundred million dollars
- 32:18Speaker 6: and he was like, look, I was probably making a
- 32:20Speaker 6: half a million dollars a year for my catalog. He's like,
- 32:23Speaker 6: you know how long it would have taken me to
- 32:25Speaker 6: actually have enough money to do what I need to do.
- 32:27Speaker 6: Now I get one hundred million dollars and one time, Yeah,
- 32:31Speaker 6: now I can try to build the empire to get
- 32:33Speaker 6: to that billion.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Basically, it is just really you betting on yourself. That's
- 32:39Speaker 4: why I tell creators, never stop creating. Just keep putting
- 32:43Speaker 4: it out, keep putting it out, bill your page, because
- 32:46Speaker 4: right now you got the tools in your own pocket.
- 32:49Speaker 4: You don't need all this extra curriculu shit. You just
- 32:51Speaker 4: gotta believe in yourself and start doing the PaperWorks.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Get you a You gotta have a.
- 32:56Speaker 4: Good lawyer go through and a lawyer's going to tell you,
- 33:00Speaker 4: educate you on how to sign your songs up with
- 33:04Speaker 4: asscap the copyrights, do all of that, and don't wait
- 33:08Speaker 4: on getting signed to a major start. Now that's why
- 33:11Speaker 4: right here, you not a master's it's independency because you
- 33:14Speaker 4: can build that. All that counts to when you go
- 33:16Speaker 4: to sell your catalog or wanna chapel or UMG publishing
- 33:21Speaker 4: come to you, they gonna, oh, that's gonna tally up.
- 33:24Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 33:25Speaker 4: They're gonna be like, oh, I want to do this,
- 33:28Speaker 4: I give you a five million for your catalog right now.
- 33:32Speaker 4: They do the math you making, they say you making
- 33:36Speaker 4: this quarterly. It's important to just say, you know what,
- 33:40Speaker 4: I could do this again. I'm gonna cash out so
- 33:42Speaker 4: I can go build something else. That's all it really is.
- 33:45Speaker 4: You build up your business to go get some money
- 33:49Speaker 4: that you earn. It's gonna take you know, because if
- 33:52Speaker 4: you wait on publishing, if they pay out quarterly. So
- 33:54Speaker 4: why not, like your man said this, take take the
- 33:58Speaker 4: one hundred million. Why sit on it? What are you doing?
- 34:02Speaker 4: Like that's that might don't be there tomorrow. Something can
- 34:05Speaker 4: happen in the world where everything can laugh look at
- 34:07Speaker 4: you know, look what's happened with saying with the FTX.
- 34:11Speaker 4: Anything can happen. So you better take that money and
- 34:14Speaker 4: somebody gonna offer you a multiple or fourteen and everybody
- 34:18Speaker 4: giving you twelve.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Don't be no dumby now he was saying he got
- 34:22Speaker 1: twenty six, or.
- 34:23Speaker 2: He said, yeah, so you talked about you said you
- 34:27Speaker 2: sold your catalog, and so one of the things that
- 34:30Speaker 2: Erv was saying to us was just like, yeah, they're
- 34:33Speaker 2: taking the things I did twenty years ago.
- 34:35Speaker 1: That doesn't mean I can't create now.
- 34:38Speaker 2: I want it in your space now, because I mean
- 34:40Speaker 2: we got Diamond Records under the catalog, we got Missy obviously,
- 34:44Speaker 2: we got Justin Timberlay, obviously, the Jay Records. Are you
- 34:48Speaker 2: still passionate about making the music and creating more of
- 34:51Speaker 2: a catalog or are we focused on this startup company
- 34:54Speaker 2: you got called versus.
- 34:56Speaker 1: I'm focused on.
- 34:57Speaker 4: My two startup companies, this card it, this startup cup,
- 35:00Speaker 4: the beat Club, because I consider myself. I consider myself
- 35:03Speaker 4: the Amazona Beats. I'm creating a store where I go
- 35:05Speaker 4: out and help every creator.
- 35:07Speaker 1: I lend my sound to everybody.
- 35:09Speaker 4: What keeps me hot is keeping a young nikka beside me,
- 35:12Speaker 4: a young hot producer, young people beside me. So I'm
- 35:15Speaker 4: more about building a community now. That's how I'm producing.
- 35:19Speaker 4: It could be her, she could be the hottest producer
- 35:21Speaker 4: right now and I'm telling you, yo, Future Will, yet
- 35:25Speaker 4: you need to fuck with her. So guess what, tim Alin,
- 35:28Speaker 4: you know he said it, he did it. So that's
- 35:30Speaker 4: how I'm producing now. I'm producing with people. I'm producing people,
- 35:33Speaker 4: and I'm building my company and bringing on people that
- 35:37Speaker 4: like Yo. I grab all the hottest producers. I did
- 35:41Speaker 4: the same thing, gave them equity and be club and
- 35:44Speaker 4: we started. So I was doing all that at the
- 35:46Speaker 4: same time at Versus. So I'm I'm in the phase
- 35:49Speaker 4: of I'm still doing music, but I do it with
- 35:52Speaker 4: other people like me and Mike Will talking about doing
- 35:55Speaker 4: the album. You know what I'm saying. I told Mike
- 35:58Speaker 4: as a producer, he was going over his hits. He
- 36:01Speaker 4: got a lot of major hits, and I look at
- 36:03Speaker 4: it like, this is the time for you to go
- 36:05Speaker 4: back and get a run like you on your Future
- 36:07Speaker 4: Records was crazy.
- 36:08Speaker 1: We got to go back and do a run.
- 36:10Speaker 4: So for me, I'm extending myself producing that way, like
- 36:13Speaker 4: I did everything when it comes to producing, But I
- 36:17Speaker 4: haven't really worked with somebody that's younger than me or
- 36:21Speaker 4: got more swag because this is a young sport. Music
- 36:24Speaker 4: is a young sport. So for me, I try to
- 36:27Speaker 4: find young talent and give my timbo swag to it
- 36:31Speaker 4: along with they swag, you know, Like I give a
- 36:34Speaker 4: prime example that I fall in the background, first Class.
- 36:38Speaker 4: That was my people's that was my producers who did
- 36:42Speaker 4: Jack Hollow. I put him in the room. I said,
- 36:44Speaker 4: do this, We should do this, should we saundple this?
- 36:46Speaker 4: It's a timbo What you think? Oh, first Class was
- 36:50Speaker 4: a hit back then, it's gonna be a hit now.
- 36:51Speaker 4: So they mess with it, Angel send it to me,
- 36:55Speaker 4: and I'm.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Like, that think good? I told Jack, he said, yo,
- 36:57Speaker 1: can I.
- 36:58Speaker 4: Get justin like guy that's producing in a different way,
- 37:02Speaker 4: like from the background, taking my credit.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Because I feel like.
- 37:07Speaker 4: When we did Versus and I love having the company
- 37:11Speaker 4: bigger than who I am. Versus is bigger than me.
- 37:14Speaker 4: So I just want to build brands that are bigger
- 37:17Speaker 4: than me, like oh man, that's Baker, Oh that's tembo shit.
- 37:20Speaker 4: But I don't care about being in the forefront. I
- 37:22Speaker 4: want to be I want to learn because I feel
- 37:24Speaker 4: like my whole career as a producer being hot, I
- 37:28Speaker 4: didn't really learn nothing, you know what I'm saying. I
- 37:30Speaker 4: was just blowing money, wasting shit, doing crazy and now
- 37:35Speaker 4: like Jimmy was like, when you get like in your
- 37:38Speaker 4: middle age, He's like, yo, that's when you really make
- 37:41Speaker 4: your real wealth. And he always told me that. That
- 37:43Speaker 4: always stuck with me. So I was like, sometimes it's
- 37:48Speaker 4: good to play the background to learn. So now I
- 37:50Speaker 4: just want to build and be part of amazing companies
- 37:54Speaker 4: and try to just pivot and do certain things. It's
- 37:57Speaker 4: totally different outside my rim. I don't want to be
- 38:00Speaker 4: just Oh, Timbo the music producer. I want to be Yo,
- 38:04Speaker 4: when every kid I heard all these talented artists right yo,
- 38:08Speaker 4: go to be club. I'm gonna hook you up. I'm
- 38:10Speaker 4: gonna hook you with the hottest producers. I'm gonna tell
- 38:12Speaker 4: you where to go subscribe over here. And then I'm
- 38:14Speaker 4: not being a faceless company like I really talk to
- 38:17Speaker 4: these kids. I tell like, yo, you got tight nests,
- 38:20Speaker 4: nail and I don't play so much music for people
- 38:23Speaker 4: that never got a placement in the world. So I'm like,
- 38:26Speaker 4: you know what, that's my gift, that's my next calling.
- 38:28Speaker 4: So that's what God got me doing, is building these companies,
- 38:31Speaker 4: learning more about spats, ownerships, spats.
- 38:35Speaker 1: So I can write my great s one one day.
- 38:39Speaker 6: Let me ask you this I know you had some
- 38:42Speaker 6: financial issues.
- 38:43Speaker 1: What was some issues that.
- 38:44Speaker 6: You had and what was some some trials and tribulations
- 38:47Speaker 6: and lessons that you learned along the way.
- 38:51Speaker 4: Man, Just like math is is not my thing, Like
- 38:55Speaker 4: I'm just gonna be a one hundred with you, Like
- 38:56Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying, like it just understand and
- 39:00Speaker 4: then for me, money is money, But you really got
- 39:03Speaker 4: to understand yourself, like are you addicted to a certain lifestyle?
- 39:10Speaker 1: Do you want to chase certain things? You just gotta
- 39:12Speaker 1: be calm.
- 39:13Speaker 4: If you calm, your money are staying your bank account,
- 39:16Speaker 4: and then you can really learn. So I had to
- 39:18Speaker 4: learn how to be just calm, you know what I'm saying, like,
- 39:21Speaker 4: go see a watch? Come my homeboy brought a watch
- 39:24Speaker 4: knowing my money ain't like his money.
- 39:27Speaker 1: Why the fuck I'm buying this watch?
- 39:29Speaker 4: Oh shit, Now I gotta go over here figure out
- 39:32Speaker 4: how I'm pay for or get the money because I'm
- 39:34Speaker 4: trying to over extend myself over things that really don't
- 39:38Speaker 4: excite me. So what I learned about finance is really
- 39:42Speaker 4: learning yourself. And then once you learn yourself that you
- 39:45Speaker 4: know you and have and be patient on things. Like
- 39:48Speaker 4: I learned how to have to learn how to be
- 39:50Speaker 4: patient instead of like let me go by that, instead
- 39:53Speaker 4: of asking questions, multiple questions like would.
- 39:56Speaker 1: You do that?
- 39:57Speaker 4: Would you not do that? Because I used to have
- 39:59Speaker 4: the attitude, fuck it, I'm doing it. Then I do it,
- 40:03Speaker 4: all go bad and I just wasted money, just gone
- 40:05Speaker 4: down to drain. So now I ask a thousand questions,
- 40:09Speaker 4: and people like Higo Tim asking a thousand questions, you
- 40:12Speaker 4: damn right, because I ain't spending this money no more.
- 40:14Speaker 4: It's hard to get it, especially when you're in a
- 40:16Speaker 4: pivot point. I really learned that you really got to
- 40:19Speaker 4: have will power not to be because when you're building
- 40:23Speaker 4: a company, you can't do everything that your homeboys do.
- 40:25Speaker 1: You got to be eyes on. You gotta be head
- 40:29Speaker 1: in first.
- 40:30Speaker 4: I listen to a story with Eli Musk when he
- 40:33Speaker 4: said he slept on the floor for three years at Tesla.
- 40:37Speaker 4: That to me is crazy. To me, that's like, that's
- 40:41Speaker 4: how I want to be. Like he sacrificed so where
- 40:45Speaker 4: he can be today. So sometimes you got to sacrifice
- 40:49Speaker 4: a little bit of fun and pleasure that you might
- 40:52Speaker 4: can do and just really be on your hustle and
- 40:54Speaker 4: grind and for me, when it comes to money. I
- 40:57Speaker 4: just try to say, well, let me I don't want
- 40:58Speaker 4: to go do this. I don't need the goal spit.
- 41:01Speaker 4: I just want to What do I like to do?
- 41:03Speaker 1: Okay?
- 41:03Speaker 4: I like to travel? Okay, how much do I set
- 41:05Speaker 4: a budget for traveler? I want to travel here? But
- 41:07Speaker 4: first I never would do those things. But now that
- 41:11Speaker 4: I had to get comfortable with myself and really purge
- 41:14Speaker 4: myself of all these uncleanness things that I would get
- 41:18Speaker 4: myself into.
- 41:19Speaker 1: So I had to like to do a little bit.
- 41:21Speaker 4: And it's hard, you know what I'm saying, because everybody,
- 41:23Speaker 4: you know, you want to show off your fruit, so
- 41:25Speaker 4: your labor. But sometimes if you're building something, this I learned.
- 41:29Speaker 4: My friend told me the goal is greater than the moment.
- 41:33Speaker 4: So I learned how to have less moments and keep
- 41:36Speaker 4: my goal in front of me.
- 41:39Speaker 1: It's powerful, sad bar Yeah.
- 41:42Speaker 2: So I wondered about the power of influence right because
- 41:45Speaker 2: your partner in versus Swiss, we show him go to
- 41:48Speaker 2: Harvard for business school. I wonder being around him the
- 41:52Speaker 2: impact that it had on you. And conversely, when you
- 41:56Speaker 2: see young producers like you mentioned, like a take Keith
- 41:59Speaker 2: or a throw Mike Will, are you advising them on
- 42:03Speaker 2: the mistakes that you made and saying like, hey, this
- 42:06Speaker 2: is how it can go.
- 42:07Speaker 4: Man, I tell them. You know, that goes another thing
- 42:09Speaker 4: about yourself. You gotta be comfortable with yourself to tell
- 42:12Speaker 4: your mistakes. I tell everybody my mistakes. I was telling Oz.
- 42:17Speaker 4: I was like he brought like a Lamborghini because he
- 42:19Speaker 4: threw a most a lot of Drake records and he
- 42:20Speaker 4: brought like a couple of cars. I said, all right,
- 42:23Speaker 4: I said, don't I did that?
- 42:26Speaker 1: That depreciates you know that? Right?
- 42:29Speaker 4: You know you can go by, you can go put
- 42:31Speaker 4: it in a trade, or you know, do something and
- 42:33Speaker 4: flip and get that and never have to spend your money.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Like you It's a lot of things you can do.
- 42:38Speaker 4: But don't don't go crazy because you just getting in
- 42:41Speaker 4: the car and going back in the house. You know,
- 42:42Speaker 4: you do know that, right? You do nothing like you
- 42:45Speaker 4: don't need five of them or three of them. You
- 42:47Speaker 4: know what I'm saying, like, what are we doing? So
- 42:49Speaker 4: I try to tell people, say, well, what did you do?
- 42:51Speaker 4: I said, Man, get the bag form of the bag.
- 42:55Speaker 4: Get the bag form of the bag. And you don't
- 42:57Speaker 4: even realize you fumbling it because you so much capture.
- 43:00Speaker 4: I call it like the loadus flower where you just
- 43:03Speaker 4: in this room, just training here, and you just training here,
- 43:07Speaker 4: just draining, and when you go out, you be like, well,
- 43:10Speaker 4: my shit, go, you've been in that that loadus room
- 43:14Speaker 4: just going crazy, spending, spending, spending, and then it's like
- 43:18Speaker 4: you can't do that.
- 43:19Speaker 1: You got to just be calm in the hype. Just
- 43:23Speaker 1: ride it.
- 43:23Speaker 4: Out, build your business, look at other things that you
- 43:26Speaker 4: want to do. I tell them, like, you know, I
- 43:29Speaker 4: tell producers. I like the way Producers is going right now,
- 43:33Speaker 4: it's one every week.
- 43:34Speaker 1: It's a little kid that's coming up.
- 43:36Speaker 4: So I'm saying, as you build your catalogs, go invest
- 43:39Speaker 4: into business.
- 43:40Speaker 1: Go put your money away, go watch y'all. You need
- 43:44Speaker 1: to invest in y'all.
- 43:45Speaker 4: Y'all need to have like a fundraise for the help
- 43:48Speaker 4: these people to put their money into invest in for them,
- 43:51Speaker 4: because that's what's missing. People will get all this lump
- 43:55Speaker 4: summer money, but the gatekeepers don't let us, let us in.
- 43:59Speaker 1: And that's another thing too.
- 44:00Speaker 4: So it's like sometimes like these higher ups you know
- 44:04Speaker 4: in these they won't give you the tips or you
- 44:07Speaker 4: should invest in this. You got to be in a circle.
- 44:09Speaker 4: So what I tell people, try to get in those circles.
- 44:12Speaker 4: Go to the events. It's not that you think is
- 44:17Speaker 4: not valuable, because it ain't the script club, it ain't
- 44:19Speaker 4: the this. But guess what, go to that banking event
- 44:22Speaker 4: because guess what, that banking event gonna get you a
- 44:26Speaker 4: lot of money and gonna save you.
- 44:28Speaker 2: A lot of money. Just go to investmentest was probably
- 44:30Speaker 2: the best place. Yeah, that's the best.
- 44:34Speaker 4: So you're right, you don't want to go to the
- 44:35Speaker 4: party live or the banking event.
- 44:37Speaker 1: I'm going to the banking event. It's a minister of both.
- 44:39Speaker 1: You got the script clubs.
- 44:40Speaker 2: You got education, you got entertainment, we got.
- 44:43Speaker 1: It all support black businesses. So so let me ask
- 44:45Speaker 1: you this on the producer side. Back to that for
- 44:48Speaker 1: a minute.
- 44:49Speaker 6: Clearing records, I want to know from two sides, because
- 44:52Speaker 6: I'm sure you had the clear samples. But now you're
- 44:55Speaker 6: in the people probably sampling your catalog.
- 44:57Speaker 1: Right.
- 44:58Speaker 6: So we've heard stories where it's like I think Asap
- 45:00Speaker 6: Ferd paying Juicy j eighty percent of his publishing for
- 45:06Speaker 6: that one. He just used one bar. So it's like
- 45:09Speaker 6: it's just so crazy. So talk about SAMP. I know
- 45:12Speaker 6: a lot of artists made mistakes, didn't go through, didn't
- 45:15Speaker 6: get the sample clear, and then they got to pay
- 45:17Speaker 6: one hundred percent of the publishing.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Because there's issues on that.
- 45:22Speaker 4: I mean, like Prince don't really clear those samples. A
- 45:26Speaker 4: lot of people, I mean, sampling is a it's your art.
- 45:29Speaker 4: Some everybody's different, juicyj That's how he handled. If you're
- 45:33Speaker 4: gonna sample mine, I'm taking fifty off top. You know
- 45:36Speaker 4: that's your right because he owned the catalog. But when
- 45:40Speaker 4: trying to get it clear sometimes it could be a hassle.
- 45:43Speaker 4: But for the most part is not. I mean for
- 45:45Speaker 4: the most part, people really love the art and they
- 45:48Speaker 4: clear it, but they gonna take their publish it. You
- 45:50Speaker 4: know what I'm saying Like that just you work hard
- 45:53Speaker 4: for that, you know what I'm saying, Like somebody remake
- 45:55Speaker 4: one of my songs. I got to get my published
- 45:57Speaker 4: cause that song was it's going to be a hit today.
- 46:00Speaker 4: So it's only right I get ten or fifteen percent.
- 46:03Speaker 4: I'm not going to hit you across the head for
- 46:04Speaker 4: fifty percent because I know you're recreating and you got
- 46:08Speaker 4: to eat too. But least when it comes to that,
- 46:12Speaker 4: A lot of people who own those copyrights get to
- 46:14Speaker 4: say the get the the sayso at the end of
- 46:19Speaker 4: the day, where they can say yes or not. But
- 46:21Speaker 4: Juicy J like, I don't think it's that hard clearing samples.
- 46:25Speaker 4: When it comes to music, it's just a matter on
- 46:29Speaker 4: who owns it, and most of the times, if you
- 46:33Speaker 4: sign to a publisher, they'll go clear for you and
- 46:37Speaker 4: tell you that you only made Like say, if I'm
- 46:38Speaker 4: the producer of It's been a couple songs with me
- 46:42Speaker 4: and Missy where I sample I think I sample and
- 46:46Speaker 4: Peoples for I can't stop the ring. I think she
- 46:48Speaker 4: took about twenty five, so me and Missy had to
- 46:50Speaker 4: split the rest because she took twenty five off the top,
- 46:54Speaker 4: and it's only right I use her her whole loop
- 46:58Speaker 4: for the whole song. So you don't really trip about
- 47:02Speaker 4: it because it's gonna you look at the greater good,
- 47:03Speaker 4: what the song is gonna do? I always looked at
- 47:07Speaker 4: I pay him whatever because I know it's a hit.
- 47:10Speaker 4: I need this hit. I need to build up the catalog.
- 47:13Speaker 4: I'm building this because I know I can make more
- 47:15Speaker 4: money with this one record. I know I got to
- 47:17Speaker 4: break off or break this person off. I don't mind
- 47:20Speaker 4: that because I know I'm gonna reap more in the
- 47:24Speaker 4: long run.
- 47:25Speaker 2: There's a lot of independent artists here. Obviously United Masters
- 47:28Speaker 2: is the home of that. And so I'm wondering because
- 47:31Speaker 2: you've seen young talent, right we started with a lid
- 47:34Speaker 2: all the way up to Tink and all her success. Now,
- 47:37Speaker 2: I remember the first person was talking about her was you.
- 47:40Speaker 2: And so one of the things that you see and
- 47:43Speaker 2: a talent that says, you know, what they have star quality?
- 47:49Speaker 1: Star quality. You know, It's hard for me to.
- 47:55Speaker 4: Say what's star today because I done came from an
- 47:58Speaker 4: era where we didn't have social media, we didn't have
- 48:02Speaker 4: all these platforms. So to me, what a star quality
- 48:08Speaker 4: that I think is is a person that know who
- 48:10Speaker 4: they are, that owns what they do and know how
- 48:15Speaker 4: to perform a lot of artists don't really know how
- 48:17Speaker 4: to perform, but I feel like if you know how
- 48:19Speaker 4: to give a show, that really makes a difference.
- 48:23Speaker 1: You know. Like it was at Rolling.
- 48:26Speaker 4: Loud and I was telling my son, I was like,
- 48:30Speaker 4: when Kendrick came on, I was like, look at the
- 48:33Speaker 4: difference between them, not taking away from nobody else, but
- 48:39Speaker 4: that's a superstar. Do you hear every word? Clear? He's
- 48:44Speaker 4: precise he's he's this is not just a festival for him.
- 48:49Speaker 4: He's putting on the show. People crying. That's what star
- 48:53Speaker 4: quality is like, when you put so much work into
- 48:56Speaker 4: your work that you're just not like you're not hoarding
- 48:59Speaker 4: it out to everybody. And we don't get a lot
- 49:02Speaker 4: of those because now everybody go viral trying to do
- 49:05Speaker 4: they shit, it's not really about the artists, really about
- 49:07Speaker 4: the songs now, but star quality, it's really up to you.
- 49:13Speaker 4: But it really doesn't exist today. I think you can
- 49:16Speaker 4: count on one hand like who's a superstar, But then
- 49:20Speaker 4: some people would disagree and be like, oh, because this
- 49:23Speaker 4: person a superstar and they own right. So it's like
- 49:28Speaker 4: it's kind of hard to say what superstar. I like
- 49:31Speaker 4: to say the elites now all these say superstar. An
- 49:34Speaker 4: elite person or entertainer is somebody who really cares about
- 49:39Speaker 4: their craft and you see and you see them constantly
- 49:43Speaker 4: working on it. To me, who I think is a
- 49:46Speaker 4: superstar or elite who's going to be elite and it's
- 49:49Speaker 4: on his way and he's steady rising, it's Jack Hollow.
- 49:53Speaker 4: Jack Haller is definitely a superstar. The way he carry himself,
- 49:56Speaker 4: the way he think about his music, the way he
- 49:59Speaker 4: want to put out music. He had conversation, he invited
- 50:03Speaker 4: me in to have a conversation.
- 50:04Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, he's a star.
- 50:06Speaker 4: He's a superstar because it's not about partying or whatever.
- 50:12Speaker 4: He really cares about the craft of making the album
- 50:15Speaker 4: and making great music and making people feel something.
- 50:18Speaker 1: So he has a chalkboard in the studio.
- 50:20Speaker 4: He writes down the songs, like we could do something
- 50:23Speaker 4: better than this one, what y'all think? And he have
- 50:26Speaker 4: a conversation. And that's what we don't see today in
- 50:29Speaker 4: the music, the artist working with the producers and to
- 50:34Speaker 4: me because he's like that, that's what makes him an elite,
- 50:39Speaker 4: a superstar. But we don't have a lot of that today.
- 50:42Speaker 4: People artists don't even go in the studio with the producer.
- 50:46Speaker 4: It's center pack. So I'm trying to change that because
- 50:49Speaker 4: if I'm a center pack, at least you're gonna get
- 50:51Speaker 4: me on on your head top telling you d ain't it.
- 50:54Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, like, Nah, pick that beat,
