- 0:30Speaker 1: All right, everybody here we are Business round Table Podcast
- 0:34Speaker 1: with returning guest Bill Hatch. Welcome back, Bill, Thank you,
- 0:39Speaker 1: glad to be back. Yeah, so I thought we were
- 0:42Speaker 1: talking right before we're recording. I thought Bill has been
- 0:44Speaker 1: with honest in the podcast almost from the beginning in
- 0:47Speaker 1: twenty twenty three when we launched this podcast, and I thought,
- 0:52Speaker 1: you know what, leadership in business development is not done
- 0:56Speaker 1: in a day. It is done a built in it's
- 0:58Speaker 1: built daily, and I thought it would be fun to
- 1:02Speaker 1: bring Bill on and just ask some questions for both
- 1:04Speaker 1: of us about how do you stay powerfully engaged, driving
- 1:09Speaker 1: masteryt motivate, being motivated, whether you're leading yourself or a
- 1:13Speaker 1: team running the business, striving for personal growth. I know
- 1:17Speaker 1: you're writing a book, Bill, and just how do we
- 1:19Speaker 1: stay focused, inspired and effective every day? So I'm glad
- 1:25Speaker 1: to have you back. Bill, Welcome back.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I'm very glad to be back.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been a couple of weeks.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Yeah, well we've had some other guests, you know, so
- 1:37Speaker 1: we're like, okay, we got to get get it, bail
- 1:40Speaker 1: back and see where you're at. And I like to
- 1:42Speaker 1: have returning guests on the podcast.
- 1:44Speaker 2: So.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Just briefly, Bill, give us a quick background for those
- 1:49Speaker 1: of you that have maybe missed previous episodes. Your your
- 1:52Speaker 1: background as a as a business owner, and yeah, just
- 1:57Speaker 1: share a little bit with with the audience.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Well, wow, I've been my own business owner off and
- 2:04Speaker 2: on for like the past. Let's see what decade is this.
- 2:09Speaker 1: We're twenty twenty five, We're.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Twenty twenty five now, so it's been it's been over
- 2:14Speaker 2: thirty years since since I started this trail of tears,
- 2:20Speaker 2: you know. But yeah, yeah, off and on. I've tried
- 2:26Speaker 2: a few different a few different projects to turn them
- 2:29Speaker 2: into uh, into regular businesses. And I've had some businesses
- 2:34Speaker 2: that that I've kind of taken personal ownership in. You
- 2:40Speaker 2: know that when I've been I've actually been working for
- 2:43Speaker 2: someone else, but I treated it as though it was
- 2:45Speaker 2: my own business.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Seriously, Yeah, it was an entrepreneur.
- 2:50Speaker 2: And you know, taking responsibility for things and uh and
- 2:55Speaker 2: actually that's propelled me forward in a in a couple
- 2:58Speaker 2: of different areas because one of those businesses was I
- 3:03Speaker 2: was in auto sales and uh, you know that's a
- 3:09Speaker 2: very that's a very difficult business to be in.
- 3:15Speaker 1: We've talked episode, So go back for the past episodes.
- 3:21Speaker 1: You're a creative because you do your own podcasts.
- 3:24Speaker 2: You're working, you know, Yeah, and I'm going to school
- 3:30Speaker 2: at the same time. There's there's a lot going on,
- 3:34Speaker 2: and you know, and and I do need to stay motivated.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, I want to talk a lot about that.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it's difficult to to keep on track, to stay
- 3:48Speaker 2: focused and uh, and stay motivated. You know. I've got
- 3:52Speaker 2: my my up playlist, uh, you know, and and uh
- 3:56Speaker 2: and all those kinds of things. I've got a list
- 3:59Speaker 2: of jobs that I need to do every day on
- 4:03Speaker 2: a piece of paper that's on my wall in front
- 4:06Speaker 2: of me, so I can look at it and anytime
- 4:09Speaker 2: I lose focus, Okay, is this one of these seven jobs?
- 4:13Speaker 1: You know?
- 4:13Speaker 2: Because these are the essentials of my life? And uh,
- 4:19Speaker 2: you know, and so so I can I can look
- 4:21Speaker 2: at it and get back on track.
- 4:24Speaker 1: So you hit a couple of things I wanted to
- 4:26Speaker 1: touch base on already. Uh, you know, the power of
- 4:30Speaker 1: kind of these daily you just kind of mentioned daily
- 4:33Speaker 1: habits that you're creating and why how we have to
- 4:36Speaker 1: be as consistent as we can be to make those
- 4:40Speaker 1: impactful and occasionally those big moves you you mentioned having
- 4:44Speaker 1: that list there, I would say that's helping you with clarity, right,
- 4:49Speaker 1: being clear on what's the most important thing that we
- 4:53Speaker 1: should be focusing on, right, and does that so when
- 4:57Speaker 1: you get up Bill and like you're looking at that,
- 5:00Speaker 1: so you have you know, kind of energetically or what's
- 5:04Speaker 1: the tone or what's the theme for the day if
- 5:06Speaker 1: you will, right, like, hey, what what where am I
- 5:09Speaker 1: going to be today? What's the focus?
- 5:11Speaker 2: Well? I try to. I try to get it. I
- 5:13Speaker 2: try to get the energy up, that's for sure, and uh,
- 5:19Speaker 2: you know I try to. And then you know, energy
- 5:22Speaker 2: and focus are are my biggest problems, you know, being
- 5:28Speaker 2: of the A D D generation.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Uh focus point now it is?
- 5:34Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, no kidding, but actually I have something to
- 5:40Speaker 2: say on that, but maybe not for tonight.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Yeah we'll come back.
- 5:43Speaker 2: To that, get a whole of.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Euro diversions all of that stuff.
- 5:48Speaker 3: But yeah, yeah, but but yeah, clarity isn't so much
- 5:54Speaker 3: a problem once I get it done, you know, because
- 5:58Speaker 3: you should always start your projects with clarity on what
- 6:01Speaker 3: what it is, what you need to do, and what
- 6:04Speaker 3: your finish line is for it.
- 6:06Speaker 2: You know, whatever that finish line is, if that's retirement
- 6:10Speaker 2: or or or an actual project finish. You know, you
- 6:15Speaker 2: don't wanna you don't want to prematurely put up the
- 6:17Speaker 2: sign that says mission accomplished. Yeah, you know so so yeah,
- 6:22Speaker 2: clarity begin with the end in mind.
- 6:24Speaker 1: But we're talking about that.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, clarity is is definitely an important one. But
- 6:30Speaker 2: but it's not so much a daily thing for me, okay,
- 6:34Speaker 2: because I'm clear on what it is that I'm doing already.
- 6:36Speaker 2: You know that.
- 6:37Speaker 1: It's more Yeah, you already have that. I use a
- 6:41Speaker 1: full focused planner. I've talked about that before. I'm kind
- 6:44Speaker 1: of looking at us my daily big three, my schedule.
- 6:48Speaker 1: I think for me, part of the building this daily
- 6:51Speaker 1: habit is reflection and sometimes I do I do at
- 6:55Speaker 1: the beginning of the day. I also do at the
- 6:56Speaker 1: end of the day, like what am I going to
- 6:58Speaker 1: be preparing for tomorrow? I as well to help me
- 7:02Speaker 1: keep focused, uh right, and and you know, be folk
- 7:07Speaker 1: be on them on the most important things right now.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, and play it like you're playing chess. Uh,
- 7:15Speaker 2: you know, be several steps ahead, you know. Uh, that's uh,
- 7:19Speaker 2: that's you know, that's become something that I've been hearing
- 7:23Speaker 2: a lot lately with with the way the president is
- 7:26Speaker 2: doing things in that it's like in some cases it's
- 7:30Speaker 2: it feels like he's playing chess because he's so many
- 7:34Speaker 2: steps ahead, and uh, you know, so play chess not checkers.
- 7:38Speaker 2: You know, uh, you know know what, know what tomorrow
- 7:42Speaker 2: needs to bring, what you plan to bring tomorrow. Have
- 7:45Speaker 2: your backup plan, you know, maybe do have that. Few
- 7:49Speaker 2: have that several days weeks months out, you know, maybe
- 7:52Speaker 2: not every day for months, but you know, knowing that, Okay,
- 7:55Speaker 2: in three months on this project, I have to do this,
- 7:59Speaker 2: and every thing else leads up to that. And in
- 8:02Speaker 2: some ways, knowing knowing what you're going to do in
- 8:04Speaker 2: three months will actually help you plan the next three
- 8:07Speaker 2: months because you know where you need to be, and
- 8:10Speaker 2: then you can work backwards on Okay, this is a
- 8:13Speaker 2: little less done, this is a little less done than that,
- 8:16Speaker 2: and so on and so forth until you get back Okay,
- 8:18Speaker 2: this is where I am. Now, I'm I've got a
- 8:21Speaker 2: track laid out for for my plan, and uh, you know,
- 8:26Speaker 2: on the trains, the train's going to get moving.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Mm hmmm, hmmm. Well, I think the planning. So I
- 8:35Speaker 1: think there's two things you just talked about. There is
- 8:38Speaker 1: there's long term planning, which is that, like you said,
- 8:41Speaker 1: forecasting and you need and then you need both both
- 8:44Speaker 1: long term and short term. So if you're if you're
- 8:46Speaker 1: you you need both. So I think what you're saying
- 8:49Speaker 1: is I look at that I call the impossible game.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I do these fact maps. I guide people through this
- 8:53Speaker 1: in my coaching of like looking at the year out
- 8:56Speaker 1: the bringing it down to the month of the week,
- 8:59Speaker 1: to the day. To me, all of those are connected.
- 9:03Speaker 1: And if you don't have that, it's really it can
- 9:05Speaker 1: really be hard to develop proper habits that get you
- 9:09Speaker 1: where you want to go and do those daily activities
- 9:12Speaker 1: that you need to in order to make that make.
- 9:16Speaker 2: You know if for for long term planning, I've always
- 9:20Speaker 2: admired the Japanese model, which is generally multi generational. And
- 9:25Speaker 2: when you're talking about long term planning, you're talking about
- 9:28Speaker 2: one hundred years in the future. Americans like three months
- 9:35Speaker 2: is long term and not long term.
- 9:39Speaker 1: No, that's just that's it's that's as a way of planning.
- 9:42Speaker 1: But I think looking at it different ways sure can
- 9:44Speaker 1: keep you motivated, because what is you're building these habits
- 9:48Speaker 1: of like why am I doing things like exercising or
- 9:53Speaker 1: eating the food I am because I don't see really
- 9:55Speaker 1: much change in a given day, but I will see it,
- 10:00Speaker 1: you know, in the months and the years to come,
- 10:03Speaker 1: and certainly our generations will see things if we do
- 10:06Speaker 1: it well. All we raise our children, how do we
- 10:08Speaker 1: build our businesses right? And so we stay focused on
- 10:12Speaker 1: developing those habits that really serve us, you know.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Yeah, and yeah, well you know, I've been working really
- 10:24Speaker 2: hard on my weight recently and I've lost about twenty
- 10:28Speaker 2: or so pounds, and yeah, but I see nearly the
- 10:33Speaker 2: same face in the mirror every day, So I don't
- 10:36Speaker 2: know that I don't I don't realize that there's a difference.
- 10:39Speaker 2: And this is true of micro improvements. You know, if
- 10:44Speaker 2: you've if you've earned one more dollar than you did yesterday,
- 10:47Speaker 2: the bank account's not blown up, right, you know, from yesterday.
- 10:51Speaker 2: But you know, you know what I mean. Yeah, you know,
- 10:55Speaker 2: I talk to people about when it comes to to
- 10:58Speaker 2: saving emergency funds and all, it's like, well, don't do it,
- 11:01Speaker 2: don't do it big, you know, put in ten bucks
- 11:04Speaker 2: a week, put in one hundred dollars a month, whatever
- 11:06Speaker 2: it is that, you know, whatever small amount you can
- 11:09Speaker 2: afford to do to put towards that emergency fund, and
- 11:13Speaker 2: you won't even realize in six months when you have
- 11:17Speaker 2: your emergency fund built.
- 11:20Speaker 1: You just kept adding a right that goes to the
- 11:25Speaker 1: question about Okay, we talked a little bit about daily habits.
- 11:29Speaker 1: We definitely go more this. We're doing a fast and
- 11:32Speaker 1: furious episode tonight for you guys are listening. We normally
- 11:34Speaker 1: do long form, but I thought we would just do
- 11:35Speaker 1: a fun, quick, engaging podcast about daily habits. But then
- 11:41Speaker 1: staying motivated, like you're just talking, You're just talking about motivation.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Stay motivated even when it's challenging, like okay, because you
- 11:48Speaker 1: have You're being very purposeful in like can I needed
- 11:52Speaker 1: I need to have an emergency fund. I need to
- 11:54Speaker 1: be there. This my mission or my my this mission
- 11:57Speaker 1: that I'm on right is to get that fund there. Okay, Well,
- 12:01Speaker 1: sometimes you know, things come up, I get distracted, but
- 12:06Speaker 1: just keep doing keep doing that so you don't avoid burnout.
- 12:09Speaker 1: What what happens if people will go to the gym
- 12:10Speaker 1: right where in the beginning beginning of January? Usually the
- 12:13Speaker 1: gyms are packed the first week and everyone's like, I'm
- 12:16Speaker 1: gonna do all the hard weights, I'm gonna do run
- 12:19Speaker 1: a marathon, I'm like you're you're you're burning yourself out
- 12:23Speaker 1: and then you quit. Right, It's like a burn, a
- 12:27Speaker 1: quick burn. How many times we see that versus like
- 12:30Speaker 1: what you just said, Bill, don't don't burn out, take
- 12:34Speaker 1: a small step and build on that step.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Right. Yeah, it's the It's like the old saying, how
- 12:41Speaker 2: do you eat an elephant one bite at a time? Right,
- 12:45Speaker 2: you know, you know, don't don't try to swallow the
- 12:47Speaker 2: whole elephant all at once.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Yeah, it's yeah, it's not gonna work.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Right.
- 12:54Speaker 2: That's why quitter. Quitter's day is like the second Friday
- 12:57Speaker 2: of January or something like that.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, and why I brought you One of
- 13:03Speaker 1: the reasons I brought you back on bills because you're consistent,
- 13:06Speaker 1: You're you're making progress, you're moving forward. Now all of
- 13:10Speaker 1: us can go at different speeds. But here here's here's
- 13:12Speaker 1: a concept for me that blew my mind years ago
- 13:14Speaker 1: from one of my mentors, Garrett ja White. He was
- 13:16Speaker 1: talking about running marathons and he said, this goes for
- 13:19Speaker 1: running marathons or riding bikes or whatever you do. There's
- 13:22Speaker 1: some people that just burst out and go to the
- 13:24Speaker 1: front and then they burn out. And there's people that
- 13:27Speaker 1: do this. You know, they'll they'll they'll thigs that I mean,
- 13:31Speaker 1: they'll run really fast and then they fall back and
- 13:34Speaker 1: they run really fast they try to get there's this
- 13:36Speaker 1: concept back and forth and if you can just if
- 13:40Speaker 1: you really watch professional runners, one's interesting. There's a pack
- 13:43Speaker 1: you ever noticed there, like a pack of runners that
- 13:46Speaker 1: you know because what they're doing is they're not they're
- 13:49Speaker 1: not blowing themselves out the beginning and they're not trying
- 13:52Speaker 1: to like you know, and then in order they fall behind.
- 13:54Speaker 1: And then you see people that it takes so much
- 13:56Speaker 1: more energy if you fall behind to try to catch
- 13:58Speaker 1: back up. But if you could just be maintained to
- 14:00Speaker 1: be consistent, you're much likely going to be able to
- 14:03Speaker 1: rent make it through the entire race, Right, Bill, That's
- 14:07Speaker 1: what I hear you saying.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yeah, for sure. Yeah, trying to trying to
- 14:13Speaker 2: go all out doesn't work for more than a couple
- 14:16Speaker 2: of days, It really doesn't. You know that that give
- 14:20Speaker 2: one hundred and ten percent you know kind of attitude
- 14:23Speaker 2: that's gonna get you. You know, that's gonna that's gonna
- 14:26Speaker 2: burn you out pretty fast and right, and it will
- 14:29Speaker 2: frustrate you because you're not gonna see no matter what
- 14:32Speaker 2: you do, you're not going to see that much of
- 14:34Speaker 2: an improvement. I mean, you know, I've I've come to
- 14:38Speaker 2: realize that that speeding from from here to like church
- 14:43Speaker 2: or something. If I if I go ten miles over
- 14:46Speaker 2: the speed limit, I'm much more likely to get a
- 14:48Speaker 2: speeding ticket, and I'm probably only gonna save a few
- 14:51Speaker 2: minutes on my total drive time. That few minutes is
- 14:55Speaker 2: not worth the risk of the going going twenty p
- 15:00Speaker 2: sent over the speed limit is not worth the risk
- 15:02Speaker 2: of the time.
- 15:03Speaker 4: You say, it is not worth the risk of of
- 15:06Speaker 4: of getting a ticket, you know, And and it's the
- 15:09Speaker 4: same thing in business, because you're you're not going to
- 15:12Speaker 4: see huge You're not going to see the ten thousand
- 15:15Speaker 4: dollars improvement between today and tomorrow by giving one hundred,
- 15:20Speaker 4: and you're you're going to.
- 15:22Speaker 2: See you might see a five hundred dollars improvement if
- 15:25Speaker 2: you're if you're fortunate, if you're working on just the
- 15:28Speaker 2: right project. But but yeah, unless you win the lotto,
- 15:31Speaker 2: you're not going to get that ten that ten thousand
- 15:33Speaker 2: dollars improvement overnight, no matter what you do. So take
- 15:37Speaker 2: a deep breath, pace yourself and uh, so that you
- 15:41Speaker 2: can so you can get that ten thousand dollars improvement,
- 15:46Speaker 2: because if that's the goal, then then you need to
- 15:49Speaker 2: get to it.
- 15:51Speaker 1: You know.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Uh, there was something I was thinking of. I I
- 15:57Speaker 2: usually encourage people to use smarter goals, which is a
- 16:03Speaker 2: specific measurable, ambitious, but realistic, time bound, ethical and reevaluable.
- 16:11Speaker 2: And that reevaluable is so important because you need to
- 16:16Speaker 2: be able to go you know, if you're okay, let's
- 16:19Speaker 2: say you do give one hundred and ten percent and
- 16:21Speaker 2: you give it for a week. If you if you
- 16:24Speaker 2: haven't planned your goal to be reevaluable, then you are
- 16:30Speaker 2: going to stop. You're going to quit because you can't
- 16:33Speaker 2: look at that goal again and reevaluate it and go, Okay,
- 16:37Speaker 2: what do I need to change to be able to
- 16:38Speaker 2: keep making my way toward this?
- 16:40Speaker 4: Right?
- 16:40Speaker 2: So you know, and if you're giving eighty percent, you
- 16:45Speaker 2: need to be able to do the same thing because Okay,
- 16:48Speaker 2: this isn't happening fast enough, this isn't what am I
- 16:51Speaker 2: doing wrong. Let's go back and evaluate what I'm doing
- 16:54Speaker 2: and how I'm doing the different.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Things you're making me. Think of a book I got
- 16:59Speaker 1: back care called The twelve week year. I'm looking at
- 17:02Speaker 1: my bedshelf. But but but the idea is what you're saying, Bill,
- 17:05Speaker 1: is like you evaluate the tactics that you're taking. Now
- 17:10Speaker 1: if if if we're changing tactics every week or two,
- 17:15Speaker 1: probably not going to get the goal either, right.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Right, so that that might be a problem.
- 17:21Speaker 1: We're burning out, Like, oh I did I just did
- 17:22Speaker 1: it really hard for a week, I got to change gears.
- 17:24Speaker 1: How many entrepreneurs and even business owners, they'll get the
- 17:28Speaker 1: shiny objects syntome and they're like, if they would have
- 17:30Speaker 1: just stayed consistent and just did the work long enough,
- 17:33Speaker 1: they would see the result. But they keep shifting every time.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Right right, Well, that's why you got to stick with
- 17:38Speaker 2: ambitious and realistic, and they're in the in the middle
- 17:41Speaker 2: of smarter. You know, it should be it should be
- 17:44Speaker 2: a stretch for you to do whatever it is you're
- 17:47Speaker 2: planning to do, but it should also be realistic. You know,
- 17:52Speaker 2: it should be ambitious enough that it's making you work,
- 17:55Speaker 2: but it shouldn't be so ambitious that you're trying to
- 17:58Speaker 2: leap over over a tall building and a single bound.
- 18:01Speaker 2: You know that's just not going to happen. You can
- 18:04Speaker 2: you can make your ambitious goal to break somebody's record,
- 18:08Speaker 2: to break your own record, and that's realistic, you know.
- 18:13Speaker 2: But but yeah, you're trying to go too far that
- 18:17Speaker 2: that that violates the realistic part of the part of
- 18:20Speaker 2: your smarter goal.
- 18:24Speaker 1: So that is really important, you know, in staying motivated.
- 18:29Speaker 1: One of the things I use, actually it's kind of fun,
- 18:33Speaker 1: the Full Focused Planner that I have literally in front
- 18:35Speaker 1: of you right now. They came out with a new
- 18:38Speaker 1: planner this year that I use with some clients called
- 18:42Speaker 1: the Wellness Planner. And the other thing that helps you
- 18:45Speaker 1: do is how are you taking care of yourself? Like
- 18:48Speaker 1: so you can also look at this and I use
- 18:50Speaker 1: this with my Warrior app to kind of a foundational
- 18:54Speaker 1: understanding of like are you taking care of yourself physically,
- 18:57Speaker 1: getting the right sleep, moving, connecting, relaxing, Because if you're
- 19:02Speaker 1: not doing some of these things are off. I use it.
- 19:05Speaker 1: I use another app called the Warrior App where I
- 19:09Speaker 1: go the core four where I look at how am
- 19:12Speaker 1: I showing up in relationships, how am I show up
- 19:14Speaker 1: in learning new things like taking care of myself physically spiritually.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I think when these things are off, that does affect
- 19:23Speaker 1: you and how impactful you're going to be in leading
- 19:25Speaker 1: yourself in your business and other things. So are you
- 19:27Speaker 1: paying attention to those things on a daily basis, even
- 19:33Speaker 1: as much as like are you you know, yeah, like
- 19:35Speaker 1: are you drinking enough water? Are you staying hydrated? Are
- 19:38Speaker 1: you eating the right foods? Right? Being intentional about those
- 19:42Speaker 1: things again, all those little things. Sometimes we're like, oh,
- 19:45Speaker 1: I can skip a meal or you know, I can
- 19:47Speaker 1: push through this right, and it doesn't and then we're
- 19:51Speaker 1: like wondering why we're so frustrated or just don't have
- 19:53Speaker 1: energy to stay motivated. And then I don't know about you, Bill,
- 19:58Speaker 1: but I've unfortunately found the my place where I let
- 20:00Speaker 1: that happen. And then I'm not as effective leader because
- 20:03Speaker 1: I start to be snippy or not as responsive or
- 20:06Speaker 1: caring or understanding the people around me, you know, like
- 20:09Speaker 1: they don't like, I don't want to be around you
- 20:11Speaker 1: as a leader. You're not leading yourself. Well, why would
- 20:13Speaker 1: I want to participate versus the other side? If we're
- 20:16Speaker 1: coming from a healthy, abundant place right where we can
- 20:19Speaker 1: give and help lift up other people, right?
- 20:24Speaker 2: Yeah, you know you have to you have to love
- 20:27Speaker 2: yourself before you can love others and you know that's
- 20:31Speaker 2: that's just because because as a leader, your main job
- 20:38Speaker 2: is to give and you know, so if you're not
- 20:42Speaker 2: if you're not taking care of yourself, and you certainly
- 20:44Speaker 2: can't do that.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Yeah. I know, we're just doing a short, short snippet
- 20:50Speaker 1: here today, Bill, but I want to We've covered daily habits,
- 20:53Speaker 1: We've covered some being motivated. You talked about smarter goals,
- 20:56Speaker 1: which I like and I have a different version of that.
- 20:58Speaker 1: We'll have to come back to you because I like
- 20:59Speaker 1: what you brought in a day. But okay, if if
- 21:02Speaker 1: if I were you know, I'm just you know, those
- 21:05Speaker 1: are listening to the podcast today, what would be you know,
- 21:09Speaker 1: your like top three things perhaps that you would be
- 21:13Speaker 1: doing leadership pactice if you would say, hey, if you
- 21:15Speaker 1: could do this tomorrow, Uh here can you give them
- 21:19Speaker 1: three Bill? Or I'll add in there. But then and
- 21:21Speaker 1: they and then they can pick maybe one of those
- 21:23Speaker 1: exercises or thoughts or ways of being that they could
- 21:26Speaker 1: use to start to increase their effectiveness in leading themselves.
- 21:30Speaker 1: What would what would what would comes to mind to you?
- 21:33Speaker 2: Well, one which we did talk about already, which I do,
- 21:36Speaker 2: is make up a responsibilities list. If we want to
- 21:42Speaker 2: call it that instead of a jobs list. That sounds
- 21:44Speaker 2: a little more draining, but you know, be clear about
- 21:48Speaker 2: what your your responsible your core responsibilities are and put
- 21:54Speaker 2: them up somewhere where you can see them all the time.
- 21:57Speaker 2: And that way, if you feel like you're getting sidetracked,
- 22:01Speaker 2: you can just go, Okay, is this part of the
- 22:03Speaker 2: core responsibilities? Do I need to do? It's if that
- 22:08Speaker 2: answers a no, yeah, you know, and you know that's
- 22:13Speaker 2: as a as a leader, you should definitely know what
- 22:16Speaker 2: your core responsibilities are and you know, be able to
- 22:20Speaker 2: do if.
- 22:21Speaker 1: You're working for somebody else, right, Bill, you should have
- 22:24Speaker 1: a role and responsibilities clearly identify. If you don't, then
- 22:28Speaker 1: start writing it down and then go to your employer
- 22:29Speaker 1: and say, hey, here's what I think it should be.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Do you agree?
- 22:33Speaker 3: You know?
- 22:34Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, I mean there's always the other task is
- 22:38Speaker 2: required line in the in everybody's job description, but there
- 22:42Speaker 2: really should be a core set of responsibilities absolutely, and
- 22:47Speaker 2: those are what you should be spending percent of your
- 22:51Speaker 2: time on. Yeah, so so yeah, and you can also
- 22:57Speaker 2: do one up for that includes your home responsibilities as
- 23:02Speaker 2: well the things outside of work, you know, whether that
- 23:05Speaker 2: be some professional organization, your church, your family is should
- 23:12Speaker 2: definitely be in the core responsibilities, you know, whatever, whatever
- 23:16Speaker 2: you want to put in it, and that's what you
- 23:18Speaker 2: stick to.
- 23:19Speaker 1: You know.
- 23:20Speaker 2: If it's not one of the if it doesn't fall
- 23:22Speaker 2: into one of those categories, then you need to seriously
- 23:25Speaker 2: consider whether it's something you should be working on.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Absolutely, it would be a second one.
- 23:31Speaker 2: A second one would be, well, what what you mentioned
- 23:35Speaker 2: self care? Yeah, you know, at all at all different levels.
- 23:41Speaker 1: M hyeah, because yeah, you.
- 23:44Speaker 2: If you aren't in a place of abundance, I really
- 23:47Speaker 2: like that that phrasing there, David, good job. And you know,
- 23:52Speaker 2: if you're not coming from a place of abundance, then
- 23:55Speaker 2: you're not going to be able to do your job
- 23:57Speaker 2: as a leader, a leader at work, a leader in
- 24:01Speaker 2: your community, a leader in your home, you know, because
- 24:06Speaker 2: your first job is to give and uh, you know,
- 24:10Speaker 2: if you can't, if you're not if you're not full,
- 24:13Speaker 2: then you can't give. So so yeah, so so self
- 24:17Speaker 2: care definitely definitely something to do on a daily basis.
- 24:24Speaker 2: I guess the reel of life wouldn't be wouldn't be
- 24:27Speaker 2: a daily thing so much I think is as maybe
- 24:30Speaker 2: a weekly task.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Let's see, well, I think, I like, I like, I
- 24:35Speaker 1: like how you said the goal in the smarter goal,
- 24:38Speaker 1: So you know that that And I mentioned this earlier
- 24:41Speaker 1: in the habit of of like reflection or reevaluating. Are
- 24:45Speaker 1: you practicing I guess that's what I'm just pulling out
- 24:48Speaker 1: a bill is like, are you practicing that? Reevaluating? And
- 24:53Speaker 1: I use a framework of what should I stop doing?
- 24:57Speaker 1: What should I start doing? What should I sustain doing?
- 24:59Speaker 1: I is that as a framework for me. You're prompting
- 25:03Speaker 1: me to think about if am I reevaluating it? Am
- 25:06Speaker 1: I reflecting on what I'm doing? Because if you've been
- 25:10Speaker 1: doing it for a long time, let's say, and it's
- 25:11Speaker 1: not getting you where you want to be, maybe then
- 25:13Speaker 1: that that's a point where maybe I need to adjust.
- 25:16Speaker 2: That right or surrender it entirely.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe just lay it down all together, say I
- 25:22Speaker 1: guys got to stop. This is this is I was
- 25:24Speaker 1: talking to Stacey for example, uh Skinishida, which we've had
- 25:28Speaker 1: in the podcast, and and we're talking about how she's
- 25:30Speaker 1: trying to do some things in her business and she's
- 25:32Speaker 1: messing around with a lot of things that's just draining
- 25:34Speaker 1: her on the computer and other things. I'm like, it's
- 25:37Speaker 1: not worth it, Like you need to stop doing that.
- 25:39Speaker 1: It's not getting you where you really need to be
- 25:40Speaker 1: serving your clients. Right, we were talking about like how
- 25:43Speaker 1: to help each other and and focus on that and
- 25:48Speaker 1: by having good people like yourself and my life, Bill
- 25:51Speaker 1: and others, that we can help be a reflection to
- 25:54Speaker 1: each other. Right, And do you have somebody that helps
- 25:56Speaker 1: you to just reflect to say is serving you? Is
- 26:00Speaker 1: that getting you what you want? You know? Yeah?
- 26:04Speaker 2: Yeah yeah? And that leads to to accountability, you know,
- 26:10Speaker 2: the old accountabil of buddy. Yeah, yeah, yeah, able to
- 26:20Speaker 2: re evaluate. You can't, then you're gonna get stuck. I mean,
- 26:26Speaker 2: they're a pretty good chance your goal wasn't perfect to
- 26:28Speaker 2: begin with.
- 26:29Speaker 1: No, No, we're wrapping up the episode here. We're excited
