- 0:30might be the start of school holidays.
- 0:32Well, that is a very joyous thing.
- 0:34Happy, happy, happy days. Well, for those of you who are
- 0:37on school holidays and for those who are the workers, good job
- 0:40you still get the weekend and a nice relax and I hope the
- 0:43weekend ahead is filled with some rest and relaxation.
- 0:46Is that our plan? Seldom.
- 0:51Seldom. Well, irrespective of our plans,
- 0:54we have got some incredible wisdom here to read, to learn
- 0:59from and to share. You ready?
- 1:00I'm ready. Let's do it.
- 1:02Let's read together Proverbs 23 one to seven.
- 1:16While dining with the ruler, pay attention to what is put before
- 1:20you. If you're a big eater, put a
- 1:23knife to your throat. Don't desire all the delicacies,
- 1:27for he might be trying to trick you.
- 1:31Don't wear yourself out trying to get rich.
- 1:34Be wise enough to know when to quit.
- 1:37In the blink of an eye, wealth disappears, for it will sprout
- 1:41wings and fly away like an eagle.
- 1:45Don't eat with people who are stingy, don't desire their
- 1:49delicacies. They are always thinking about
- 1:52how much it costs. Eat and drink, they say, but
- 1:56they don't mean it. And again.
- 2:01While dining with a ruler, pay attention to what is put before
- 2:05you. If you're a big eater, put a
- 2:08knife to your throat. Don't desire all the delicacies,
- 2:12for he might be trying to trick you.
- 2:17Don't weigh yourself at trying to get rich.
- 2:19Be wise enough to know when to quit.
- 2:22In the blink of an eye, wealth disappears, for it will sprout
- 2:26wings and fly away like an eagle.
- 2:31Don't eat with people who are stingy.
- 2:34Don't desire their delicacies. They are always thinking about
- 2:38how much it costs. Eat and drink, they say, but
- 2:42they don't mean it. Boy, these 3 extended proverbs
- 2:56are all talking about reining yourself in, aren't they?
- 3:00Yeah. And I think just being whether
- 3:02it's whether you're dining with someone who has plenty like
- 3:07ample or someone who is really careful about what they have,
- 3:11it's, it's more like looking for like a hidden cost.
- 3:14Just checking that, you know, in those first ones when it's
- 3:18saying he might be trying to trick you, It's just like make
- 3:20sure it doesn't come with expectations of, you know,
- 3:23almost like a bribe or just I, I guess looking at the subtext.
- 3:31And even with the the obsession of our modern Society of chasing
- 3:36wealth, saying ah, don't do it, know when to quit because that
- 3:40wealth will sprout wings and fly away.
- 3:42Oh. Absolutely.
- 3:45I like in the message translation that part where it
- 3:49says riches disappear in the blink of an eye.
- 3:52Well, sprouts wings and flies off into the wild blue Yonder.
- 3:58So yeah, just I'm so fleeting is some of these things.
- 4:01Yeah, don't. Don't bother spending your life
- 4:04in pursuit of something like that.
- 4:05Yeah. Oh Lord, you offer us something
- 4:09so much more worthwhile to spend our life pursuing.
- 4:13You offer us this, this new Kingdom, this different Kingdom
- 4:17where love and generosity and sharing and inclusion are the
- 4:26values. Lord, I pray that you transform
- 4:29our hearts to be less captivated by the priorities that the world
- 4:34shoves down our throats and tells us are important so that
- 4:38we can restrain ourselves, that we can look at the subtext
- 4:42beyond the things that we see, and that we can wisely choose
- 4:46you and your ways every time. Thank You that you look beyond
- 4:52everything and you choose us, and you love us and you uphold
- 4:57us. We just worship you and come
- 5:00before you with such grateful hearts.
- 5:02And pray all of this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
