- 0:00Hello and welcome back to another episode of
- 0:02Abby the Podcast Lady. This is actually a audio
- 0:06only version of this show. It's kind of a last
- 0:10minute emergency episode. I wouldn't call it
- 0:12an emergency episode. I would just call it a...
- 0:15last minute one. There's hardly ever an emergency
- 0:18in podcasting. Let's start there. There's truly
- 0:21nothing that is going to probably be life or
- 0:24death when it comes to podcasting. So calling
- 0:27it an emergency, a little unhinged, a little
- 0:29just not the vibe. We are just doing an audio
- 0:31only episode because I am about ready to fall
- 0:34asleep. It is literally July 31st at almost 10
- 0:40p .m. and I realized that tomorrow is August.
- 0:43It is my birthday month. It is the best month
- 0:45of the year. I intentionally took a lot of downtime
- 0:50in my schedule for this coming August to really
- 0:52like savor and enjoy it. But that also means
- 0:56we are in what I refer to as the Sunday of summer.
- 1:01If you look at summer like it is a long weekend,
- 1:04like June would be Friday, July is Saturday,
- 1:07August is Sunday, people are gearing up for that
- 1:10cultural reset that is Memorial Day weekend.
- 1:13So we are getting ready for Sunday morning, essentially,
- 1:17of the year, if you look at it in my weird way
- 1:19of looking at a calendar. As I'm laying here
- 1:22getting ready for bed, I am unfortunately reeling
- 1:26in my mind, as I often do, and I realize that
- 1:31it's kind of like the Sunday scaries of... you
- 1:36know, just life in general. We all have the Sunday
- 1:39scaries sometimes of like, okay, what's the next
- 1:41step? What's my next thing I need to do? What's
- 1:44going to happen when the clock strikes 12 and
- 1:46it's Monday morning and it's a fresh week in
- 1:48front of me and I don't know what to do. I have
- 1:51all these plans, but I just keep kicking the
- 1:52can down the road. And I don't want that to be
- 1:55you with your podcast. So today. On this quote
- 2:01unquote emergency episode of Abby the Podcast
- 2:03Lady, we are going to talk about what I would
- 2:05do if I wanted to launch a podcast by Labor Day
- 2:09weekend of this year. Like I said, clock's ticking.
- 2:12It's August 1st. What would I do in order to
- 2:16get that podcast launched and launched successfully?
- 2:19And what do I mean by successfully? Not having
- 2:21a bajillion downloads right out the gate, but
- 2:23instead having a game plan to sustain the podcast
- 2:27long. term because anyone can launch a show,
- 2:31but it takes a very special type of person to
- 2:35keep a show going beyond episode three and then
- 2:38beyond episode seven and then beyond episode
- 2:4020 and 100 and so on and so forth. So here's
- 2:44what I would do if I wanted to successfully launch
- 2:46a podcast by Labor Day weekend. Number one, get
- 2:50your mindset right. Going back to calling the
- 2:53month of August the Sunday of the calendar, Labor
- 2:57Day is a cultural reset. I don't know if that's
- 2:59just something from being a lifelong Minnesotan
- 3:02that I view Labor Day as like this cultural reset.
- 3:06Like in my brain, August is for silly, goofy
- 3:09fun time. And then once Labor Day weekend hits,
- 3:11once the state fair is over, it's back to business
- 3:14as usual. Summer's over. Fun's over. And I know
- 3:17in the rest of the world, that's probably not
- 3:19the case. I know people go back to school way
- 3:21earlier than Labor Day. Even in Minnesota, they
- 3:23started doing that, which I don't have kids.
- 3:27So take this with a grain of salt. But I do not
- 3:29believe in sending children to school before
- 3:31Labor Day weekend. I think that is just wrong
- 3:33and cruel and unusual punishment. I know summer
- 3:36goes well into September, but in my mind, summer
- 3:39is Memorial Day to Labor Day. That's just how
- 3:42it is. Anyway. You need to get your mindset right
- 3:44when it comes to wanting to launch a podcast
- 3:46before Memorial Day weekend. Truly like look
- 3:52at this as this is the starting line to the rest
- 3:55of your life because podcasting can take you
- 3:58a lot of really cool places, but you have to
- 4:00do the podcast. You have to do the hard work
- 4:02in order to reap the rewards of it. So get your
- 4:05mindset right that Labor Day is your starting
- 4:07line, but you got to be ready to run the race.
- 4:10Number two, I want you. or what I would do, I
- 4:14guess, what I would do is focus on a micro podcast.
- 4:18What do I mean by a micro podcast? I actually
- 4:22offer a micro podcast production service. It
- 4:25is $399 a month. It includes a full audio version
- 4:29of your podcast that is 10 minutes or less. It
- 4:33includes a couple of social media like graphics
- 4:35and a reel to share like basically everything
- 4:39you need to have a podcast, but on a very small
- 4:41scale. I want you to focus on making a micro
- 4:44podcast because that is what you can batch. in
- 4:48this next few weeks leading up to Labor Day weekend.
- 4:52I have multiple clients right now that are on
- 4:56the micro podcast production package with me
- 4:59and they are all doing so well. What do I mean
- 5:03by well? I mean that they are consistent with
- 5:05their content, that they are sharing it. It is...
- 5:08easy to do. It is feasible to do. It is easy
- 5:10to batch the content. They can get it to me in
- 5:13a timely manner. I can get it to them in a timely
- 5:16manner. Everything is posted on time. They are
- 5:19satisfied and happy, and it's creating this really
- 5:22cohesive marketing strategy for them and for
- 5:26their business. So I would focus on creating
- 5:28a micro podcast. If you want more information
- 5:30on what all comes with a micro podcast, or even
- 5:34if you want to work with me on that, I have everything
- 5:37on my website. Obviously, I'll link it in the
- 5:39show notes below, but I would really focus on
- 5:41just starting small. I would not start a podcast
- 5:44on Labor Day weekend if you are anticipating
- 5:46having hour -long episodes and interviews every
- 5:50single week. Do what's feasible. Yap for 10 minutes
- 5:53or less. Audio only. Start there. Get your feet
- 5:58wet and get comfortable with the podcasting process
- 6:00in that capacity. Number three of what I would
- 6:04do if I wanted to start a podcast about Labor
- 6:06Day weekend, I would write down common FAQs and
- 6:10answer those in the episodes. So you're having
- 6:13conversations with people in your day -to -day
- 6:15life, in your business. They're asking for your
- 6:18expertise on things. you're probably getting
- 6:20some overlapping questions. I know I get overlapping
- 6:23questions all the time. People ask me, oh, how
- 6:26do I monetize a podcast? How do I start a podcast?
- 6:28How in the world does a podcast get on Spotify?
- 6:31How does it get on Apple? What does a podcast
- 6:34actually mean? Like, is it just a video? I'm
- 6:37getting questions like that constantly that I'm
- 6:39answering constantly, and I'm sure you are too
- 6:41by being the expert in your field. So what I
- 6:45want you to do is open up a notes app on your
- 6:47phone. and start writing them down. After you
- 6:51come out of a meeting with someone, after you
- 6:52get off that discovery call with someone, what
- 6:55were the two or three questions that they asked
- 6:58you that someone else has also asked you? And
- 7:00maybe someone else hasn't asked you that question,
- 7:02but it was a great question and you immediately
- 7:04had the answer for it. That's the biggest thing.
- 7:06What do you immediately have the answer for?
- 7:10Write those questions down, keep a running list,
- 7:13and each of those questions can be turned into
- 7:16an episode of a micro podcast, answering one
- 7:20specific question. And what's great about that
- 7:22is if you can have that question as the title
- 7:26of the podcast, it's going to be great SEO. Like
- 7:29literally every episode can be just the common
- 7:32question that you get asked, and then you answer
- 7:34it in the show. It is super easy to do a podcast
- 7:38that way and super helpful, especially if it's
- 7:40like something common that your ideal client
- 7:43is Googling. If they're typing that into ChatGBT,
- 7:46if they're typing that into Clod, if they're
- 7:47typing that into Google or Gemini or wherever,
- 7:50if that is the exact sentence they are typing
- 7:52and you have a 10 minute or less consumable piece
- 7:56of content that you are answering that question
- 7:59and helping them solve their problem. chef's
- 8:02kiss. That is exactly what you want. Start that
- 8:05running list of your questions and just start
- 8:08answering them in audio form. There's your podcast
- 8:11right there. The fourth thing I would do if I
- 8:13wanted to get a podcast launched by Labor Day
- 8:15weekend is I would pick your three content buckets.
- 8:20These are your three topics that all episodes
- 8:22need to fall into or in that category of. This
- 8:27is going to help you down the road because eventually
- 8:29you probably will run out of FAQ questions. The
- 8:32FAQs are a fabulous place to start. They're a
- 8:35really easy place to start. It's a really good
- 8:36way to build some credibility. But eventually
- 8:39you are going to need your content buckets. That's
- 8:42not to say that these can't change eventually,
- 8:44but just have an idea of like, my podcast needs
- 8:48to... It needs to land in one of these buckets
- 8:52that are tied to my niche and just to keep everything
- 8:56cohesive because things can get off the rails
- 8:58so quickly. I know even when I started this show
- 9:00a year ago, I thought I was going to do like...
- 9:04audits and reviews of shows and I was gonna I
- 9:08had all these like I'm not calling them stupid
- 9:11there are no stupid ideas but looking back it's
- 9:13like no you didn't know what you were doing you
- 9:15just you were told that you needed to start a
- 9:17podcast by your business coach and you just did
- 9:19it so we all make mistakes even the podcast lady
- 9:23isn't great at podcasting sometimes so pick your
- 9:26three main topics that you want to cater to,
- 9:30that you want to be the expert in, and it needs
- 9:33to fall into one of those buckets when you make
- 9:35a show. So just think that through. Again, they
- 9:38can change, they can evolve. For now, you're
- 9:40answering those questions, but just know. that
- 9:43those content buckets are going to be helpful
- 9:45to keep steering the ship down the road. So just
- 9:48start chewing on that. The fifth thing I would
- 9:51do if I wanted to start a podcast by Labor Day
- 9:54weekend is I would batch record my show. What
- 9:58is batch recording? Batch recording is the secret
- 10:01to all of life's problems, if you ask me. I would
- 10:05carve out time, give yourself, especially if
- 10:07you're starting from like scratch, scratch, like
- 10:09you've never... made a podcast before. You've
- 10:11never recorded yourself before. You've never
- 10:13done anything like this. Carve out a day, half
- 10:17a day even, to record all of your episodes for
- 10:20the first month of your show. That probably sounds
- 10:24daunting. You're like, Abby, it's August now
- 10:26listening to this and I want to start a show
- 10:28by Labor Day weekend. What do you mean record
- 10:30a month worth of content? Well, if you are making
- 10:33a micro podcast, You shouldn't be talking for
- 10:36more than 10 minutes at a time for an episode.
- 10:38So realistically, you can get a month's worth
- 10:40of content done in probably an hour if you're
- 10:42efficient and you have things scripted out and
- 10:44you're ready to rock. So I want you to pick a
- 10:47day to batch record, to actually like sit down,
- 10:50create the show and batch record that first month
- 10:54of content. I'm not telling you need to edit
- 10:56it in that same day, but have it ready for editing
- 11:00so that when you do have a free evening, when
- 11:02you do have a free... hour or two to pick at
- 11:04it, it's ready to be picked at. And you're not
- 11:07sitting there when you finally do have that free
- 11:09time going, oh man, I got to actually like, I
- 11:12got to record and then I got to edit. Like it
- 11:14just becomes too much. I just want you to sit
- 11:17down and hit record and start making some either
- 11:20audio or video content. That is batch recording.
- 11:25Get it all done, have it in the hopper, ready
- 11:27to edit or ready to do whatever you will with
- 11:30it. If you're starting from scratch and have
- 11:31no idea how to edit and hiring someone to do
- 11:34it for you, just have it ready to send. The more
- 11:37you can get done in batches like that, the better
- 11:40off you're going to be. Plus it sets the stage
- 11:42for setting that habit to keep batch recording
- 11:45down the road. Most of my clients... batch record.
- 11:49They are sitting down once a month either with
- 11:52me or on their own recording all of their content
- 11:55for the month and either sending it to me or
- 11:57I pack everything up and walk away from them
- 12:00and I have it all recorded on my own SD cards.
- 12:03But they are doing it one day a month because
- 12:06then they don't have to worry about it. Like
- 12:08literally they just have it done and then the
- 12:11next time they see it it is a finished polished
- 12:13product from me. They don't have to think about
- 12:16it again until they're posting it on the internet
- 12:18to say, hey, look, it's live. Come get it. So
- 12:21batch record your content. It is going to be
- 12:23the best habit for success in podcasting. I'm
- 12:27a firm believer in that. And then the last thing
- 12:30I would do if I wanted to launch a podcast by
- 12:32Labor Day weekend is I would call a professional
- 12:35or take an online course. Either one of the two.
- 12:39And I'm not saying you have to call me. You have
- 12:41to take my online course. I'm saying I am available.
- 12:44I do have an online course for you to take. It
- 12:47is a very comprehensive online course and it
- 12:50will walk you through every single step you need
- 12:52to take in order to make your podcast. But ask
- 12:56for help. Like if this is something that you've
- 12:58been wanting to do and you even maybe had a New
- 13:01Year's resolution of, I want to start a podcast
- 13:03and I'm going to have it out by Labor Day weekend.
- 13:06Great. That's 30 days from now. So it's time
- 13:10to kick it into high gear. It's time to take
- 13:12that step. If you call a professional, a podcast
- 13:15producer like me, or you call me, we can probably
- 13:18realistically launch your podcast by Labor Day
- 13:22weekend. But it's going to take some time, effort,
- 13:26and money. And it all comes down to like, what
- 13:29do you want from this? Do you want to... dilly
- 13:34dally around with it and learn how to edit and
- 13:36learn how to do this on your own? Or do you not
- 13:39want to learn how to do this and you just want
- 13:41someone to take care of it for you so you can
- 13:43cross it off your list to say podcast is launched
- 13:45by Labor Day weekend. That means we're getting
- 13:47into a good groove right before the holiday season
- 13:49kicks in and that means we're going to last.
- 13:52through the holiday season and into 2027 because
- 13:55we have the right systems in place and you're
- 13:57working with a professional in the industry.
- 14:00That's your call to make. I am not the one to
- 14:03sit here and tell you what the right answer is.
- 14:06I am just here to provide resources. And I am
- 14:09here to tell you, I am here to help you. If you
- 14:12want to launch a podcast by Labor Day this year,
- 14:14let's freaking go. Let's do it. I am here. Let's
- 14:17knock it out of the park. If you want to learn
- 14:19how to do this on your own. The Bet on Your Podcast
- 14:22course is now live, and you can take that through
- 14:26the school platform. It's skool .com. I got the
- 14:32link in the show notes below. There's actually
- 14:33a discount if you take it through the school
- 14:36program. So if that is something you're interested
- 14:38in, while we are still working out the kinks,
- 14:41and by we, I mean me, working out the kinks of
- 14:43the online community aspect of it. Go ahead and
- 14:47take the course on the school platform. It's
- 14:49the exact same course that's going to be part
- 14:51of the online community as well, but just less
- 14:54comprehensive, less cohort, less chitter chatter
- 14:58and less friend making. It's very like. siloed.
- 15:01You're kind of on your own with this. But again,
- 15:03you have access to me, you have access to the
- 15:05course, you have access to my years and years
- 15:08and years of podcast knowledge and just audio
- 15:10production and content creation knowledge in
- 15:13general. And if that's something that you are
- 15:16like, I want to do this myself, I know I can
- 15:18handle it. I just need to learn the right way.
- 15:21the bet on your podcast course is the right move
- 15:23for you. If you're like, I don't got time to
- 15:25learn this and I don't want to learn it. I'm
- 15:27hiring Abby. That's also an option as well. But
- 15:29either way, it is not out of the question to
- 15:32launch a podcast by Labor Day weekend. You just
- 15:36got to be realistic with yourself and pick which
- 15:40journey you want to go on. It's like a choose
- 15:42your own adventure book. Do you want to learn
- 15:44how to do it? Do you want to hire someone how
- 15:46to do it? hire someone how to do it. You can
- 15:49tell it is late at night when I am recording
- 15:51this and I'm not even editing it. This is going
- 15:53out as is. Ooh, scary. Why am I doing this? Because
- 15:57I feel very passionately about it and I don't
- 16:00just wake up out of bed and start recording podcasts.
- 16:04I am feeling very spicy about this and I believe
- 16:07that it is possible. And if you just stick to
- 16:10that mindset shift, that micro podcast, answer
- 16:13those FAQs, pick your content buckets, batch
- 16:16record, you can do it. I know you can do it.
- 16:19I've seen it done before. I've launched so many
- 16:21podcasts on Labor Day weekend. That's the anniversary
- 16:23for honestly, a lot of my clients is Labor Day
- 16:27weekend because we all see it as that reset moving
- 16:30into the fall season, into the holidays, into
- 16:34crossing off things off the bucket list for 2026.
- 16:39What's that called? New Year's resolution list
- 16:41for 2026. The time is now. Just do it. You can
- 16:45do this. I can help you. And we will get through
- 16:48this together. But it's totally possible to launch
- 16:50by Labor Day weekend. You just got to get your
- 16:52mind right and get your batch recording done.
- 16:55Okay, I'm going to bed. Good night. I will talk
- 16:57to you later. Thanks for listening to Abby the
- 16:58Podcast Lady.
