- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome and to Jags am kind honest gave me here
- 0:20Speaker 1: with Brian next and John Osier, and we are back
- 0:23Speaker 1: were fresh renewed from by week as we get ready
- 0:25Speaker 1: for Week ten of the NFL season. And I'm gonna
- 0:28Speaker 1: speak for everybody and say, we're pretty happy with where
- 0:30Speaker 1: the team is at right now at six and two,
- 0:32Speaker 1: especially when you watch some of the other games like
- 0:34Speaker 1: I did this weekend, you're definitely more appreciative of where
- 0:37Speaker 1: the Jaguars are at. At least I'll speak for you
- 0:39Speaker 1: guys and say that, cause some of those teams they're
- 0:41Speaker 1: struggling right now.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and and it's it's my hot takes, so
- 0:43Speaker 2: I'm gonna hold off.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Okay, what did you get to do on your week off? John?
- 0:47Speaker 3: Uh?
- 0:47Speaker 4: I went to porch Fest and Springfield and I watched
- 0:49Speaker 4: a little NFL yesterday. Okay, look, uh, the Jags are
- 0:52Speaker 4: good and it was nice to watch. Obviously Jaguars play
- 0:56Speaker 4: knowing that they were either gonna be two and a
- 0:58Speaker 4: half three games up their two games up. And I'm
- 1:02Speaker 4: getting some emails from people, why aren't the Jaguars playing
- 1:05Speaker 4: as good as this team? Why aren't they playing as
- 1:07Speaker 4: good as this team. Why did Trevor Lawrence CJ.
- 1:09Speaker 5: Strett.
- 1:09Speaker 4: Look, they're six and two, they've won eleven of their
- 1:12Speaker 4: last thirteen. They're fine. They're winning games the way they've
- 1:19Speaker 4: been winning. Yeah, and now they have a tough stretch
- 1:23Speaker 4: and I'm getting emails about that too, Ryan, Oh, it's
- 1:25Speaker 4: a tough stretch.
- 1:26Speaker 5: It's the NFL. It's supposed to be hard.
- 1:29Speaker 2: No rookie quarterback has ever played like CJ. Strouded yesterday.
- 1:32Speaker 2: That's a revelation.
- 1:33Speaker 1: That was something to watch for sure, And we'll get
- 1:35Speaker 1: to that a little bit later on in the show.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Let's start with our big things this week, Fell is
- 1:38Speaker 1: to go into week ten. They're back at it. That's
- 1:40Speaker 1: our big thing because after the bye week they have
- 1:43Speaker 1: not much time to get back into it before they're
- 1:45Speaker 1: going up against the forty nine ers on Sunday, and
- 1:47Speaker 1: that is certainly going to be a big game. Brian.
- 1:50Speaker 1: We had this one circled down our schedule beforehand, and
- 1:53Speaker 1: you know, the forty nine ers coming off of by
- 1:54Speaker 1: as well, so they've had some time to get well.
- 1:56Speaker 1: This is going to be a good game.
- 1:57Speaker 2: We spent so much time Kay talking about old the
- 2:00Speaker 2: games they played in that compressed period of time. What
- 2:02Speaker 2: which is three and twelve days four in nineteen Now
- 2:05Speaker 2: they'll play their first game or their second game, I
- 2:07Speaker 2: should say in twenty four days, right, So they've had
- 2:10Speaker 2: plenty of time to get guys who were banged up
- 2:12Speaker 2: or injured ready to practice this week and find out
- 2:15Speaker 2: whether they can come back and play. Plus, you just
- 2:18Speaker 2: spent the weekend watching some of the best teams. That
- 2:20Speaker 2: Miami Kansas City game yesterday, you know, the Baltimore Seattle game.
- 2:24Speaker 2: These guys want to get back out of the field
- 2:25Speaker 2: because they want to play. They want to see where
- 2:28Speaker 2: they match up.
- 2:29Speaker 5: John.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Any chance they got out of focus in this time
- 2:31Speaker 1: off or do you think they'll be all set?
- 2:33Speaker 4: Look, if if they win Sunday, then the bi will
- 2:37Speaker 4: have been great. If they lose, they got out of focus,
- 2:40Speaker 4: they didn't it, that will be the narrative whether that's
- 2:44Speaker 4: to I don't worry about this team being ready, I
- 2:47Speaker 4: don't worry about it being focused.
- 2:49Speaker 5: Whatever. The forty nine ers are good. They might lose.
- 2:52Speaker 4: They also might win because the Jaguars are gonna think
- 2:54Speaker 4: it'd be that kind of a game. But I don't
- 2:56Speaker 4: think I'll have anything to do with lack of focus.
- 2:58Speaker 4: I think this buy can only help this team to
- 3:00Speaker 4: get healthy.
- 3:01Speaker 2: And I think when you look at Doug Peterson and
- 3:02Speaker 2: his body at work as both a player and a coach,
- 3:05Speaker 2: you know, he's been in this league since nineteen ninety one,
- 3:07Speaker 2: so he has seen it all and he understands he's
- 3:10Speaker 2: gone through two by weeks and one by week and
- 3:12Speaker 2: how to put it all together. He'll have this team
- 3:14Speaker 2: ready to get to practice field this week and then
- 3:16Speaker 2: you get a San Francisco team that's lost three in
- 3:18Speaker 2: a row coming across the country right to play a
- 3:20Speaker 2: ten am game. But they're really still very good. Don't
- 3:24Speaker 2: let anybody tell you that they're not.
- 3:26Speaker 1: They're certainly going to be dangerous no matter who's out
- 3:28Speaker 1: on the field for them. Our second big thing this
- 3:30Speaker 1: week is deadline addition, because it's been about a week
- 3:33Speaker 1: since we've talked to you guys, and trade deadline has
- 3:35Speaker 1: come and gone on Halloween and there was an addition
- 3:38Speaker 1: to this team, maybe not what people expected, but they
- 3:40Speaker 1: added to the offensive line. Doug Peterson was actually on
- 3:42Speaker 1: the Pat McAfee show at the time the trade was announced.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Here's what he had to say.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Well, I think that is expectations, and you know, obviously
- 3:50Speaker 3: getting a good player to come in here and help us.
- 3:51Speaker 3: And we've already got a good offensive line, and Ezra
- 3:55Speaker 3: can come in and give us some really good depth
- 3:57Speaker 3: and it's just a matter of getting him caught up
- 3:59Speaker 3: and get him getting getting him in the room.
- 4:02Speaker 6: You know, with a with a really good offensive line,
- 4:04Speaker 6: guys like Brandon Shriff, I mean, he he's the leader
- 4:07Speaker 6: in there, and Luke Fortner and you know, I mean
- 4:09Speaker 6: you look at these guys, Cam Robinson, I mean, Walker Little.
- 4:12Speaker 3: These guys are just busting their tail every week. So
- 4:14Speaker 3: getting a guy like Ezra his caliber, we got a
- 4:17Speaker 3: you know, a starting type guard really really solidifies, you know,
- 4:21Speaker 3: solidifies our offensive line and makes us better.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Love the Halloween costumes there on the Pat McFee show,
- 4:27Speaker 1: they did add to the offensive line, John, that was
- 4:30Speaker 1: something we talked about maybe if you can find somebody
- 4:32Speaker 1: to add there, that would certainly be helpful to the
- 4:34Speaker 1: depth of this team. That's an issue they've had throughout
- 4:36Speaker 1: the season. Is this guy gonna help out there?
- 4:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I give some options. I don't really have a
- 4:41Speaker 4: great feel yet for whether it's going to be him.
- 4:44Speaker 4: It's gonna be Walker Little left guard bare minimum. It
- 4:49Speaker 4: gives them options. I think they learned last year that
- 4:52Speaker 4: they need in the second half the season two guys
- 4:54Speaker 4: that can I mean, three offensive tackles and three swing
- 4:58Speaker 4: players that they like, and now they Tyler Satley in
- 5:01Speaker 4: there with Cleveland. It gives them the depth and it
- 5:06Speaker 4: might make them stronger on the interior, which is why
- 5:10Speaker 4: Little might be the odd man out for a week
- 5:12Speaker 4: or to until they figure this thing out.
- 5:13Speaker 2: He's a good player, whether he'd be ready to go
- 5:16Speaker 2: this week or not. I think most people have probably
- 5:18Speaker 2: heard that he and Rausch were together for a time
- 5:20Speaker 2: in Minnesota. Think big picture on this one as well.
- 5:23Speaker 2: They need guards. Brandon SHARE's not likely to be here
- 5:25Speaker 2: because of his cap number next year, and Tyler Shatley
- 5:28Speaker 2: is a free agent next year. He's George the end
- 5:30Speaker 2: of his contract, and Walker Little is really a tackle
- 5:33Speaker 2: and Cam Robinson has a big number, so you need
- 5:37Speaker 2: bodies at guard. Cooper Hodges is a guy that they
- 5:39Speaker 2: have a lot of hope for, and Cleveland is a
- 5:42Speaker 2: guy who's a second round pick and is a really
- 5:43Speaker 2: good player. So I get it. It's a play for
- 5:45Speaker 2: today because we're focused on this season. And playing for
- 5:47Speaker 2: this season, but it's also a play for the future
- 5:50Speaker 2: because if over the next nine games he plays well,
- 5:53Speaker 2: he's the guy that you can work into your salary
- 5:55Speaker 2: structure and go forward with. He's a big guy, he's
- 5:57Speaker 2: talented guy. A lot of people that I talked to
- 6:00Speaker 2: you last week we're surprised that he gained for just
- 6:02Speaker 2: a sixth round pick, thought maybe he was worth a
- 6:04Speaker 2: little bit more than that.
- 6:05Speaker 1: And as we've seen the depth of something we definitely
- 6:08Speaker 1: need because as soon as we got Cam Robinson Backwalker
- 6:10Speaker 1: Little goes out with an injury. So this has been
- 6:13Speaker 1: an issue point for the team, so certainly doesn't hurt
- 6:15Speaker 1: to get a little extra help in that position. Our
- 6:17Speaker 1: final big thing though, is standing pat because while they
- 6:20Speaker 1: did add to the offensive line, they did not choose
- 6:23Speaker 1: to go after a pass rush. Daniel Hunter was out there.
- 6:26Speaker 1: There was talks rumors that the Daguars were involved in that,
- 6:29Speaker 1: but Brian, they decided to stay with their guys here
- 6:32Speaker 1: and not really go after a big name.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Well where in the street. Hunter was not available last week.
- 6:36Speaker 2: If they were only looking at a first round pick
- 6:38Speaker 2: for a guy, and no one was going to throw
- 6:39Speaker 2: that out there, especially when you saw the Commanders get
- 6:42Speaker 2: a second and a third round pick for their two
- 6:44Speaker 2: pass rushers, Kai, I think overall, since the Jaguars didn't
- 6:46Speaker 2: have two, three and four available, they weren't willing to
- 6:49Speaker 2: send a first round pick for a pass rusher that
- 6:52Speaker 2: might just be a short term deal for them. Plus,
- 6:54Speaker 2: you saw what Sweat got. He got a four year,
- 6:57Speaker 2: ninety eight million dollar deal from the Cleveland or from
- 6:59Speaker 2: the Chicago Bay and John, when you look at all
- 7:01Speaker 2: the players that the Jaguars want to pay next year,
- 7:04Speaker 2: we've talked about it. You've got quarterback, wide receiver, perhaps,
- 7:08Speaker 2: defensive back, offensive lineman, pass rusher. How are you gonna
- 7:11Speaker 2: work that huge undery into your structure with the guys
- 7:15Speaker 2: that you want to keep.
- 7:15Speaker 5: I mean, it's difficult.
- 7:19Speaker 4: It would have been difficult to bring a pass rusher
- 7:22Speaker 4: in and say, hey, pass rusher, here's a nice big contract.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Josh Allen, hang tight, you know, because you're talking around
- 7:30Speaker 4: here for the last two years about trying to pay
- 7:32Speaker 4: your guys and being a draft and developed team, and
- 7:35Speaker 4: then the first guy you pay is a trade and
- 7:37Speaker 4: develop Well, it gets what Brian trade develop is not drafted,
- 7:40Speaker 4: who trade develops, trade develop I'm also not surprised they
- 7:43Speaker 4: didn't do it, because again I keep going back, they
- 7:47Speaker 4: don't think that their pass rush is a weakness. They
- 7:51Speaker 4: think that their front seven overall, the disruption that they
- 7:54Speaker 4: create is maybe the strength of the team right now.
- 7:57Speaker 4: So I get you could have added one more piece,
- 8:00Speaker 4: and why didn't you go make the move? All it
- 8:02Speaker 4: says Chips all In. Well, I get Chips all In,
- 8:05Speaker 4: but I also get that Trevor Lawrence is in his
- 8:07Speaker 4: third year. Yeah, and you also envision this thing being
- 8:11Speaker 4: a fifteen year Trevor Lawrence window, not a twenty twenty
- 8:15Speaker 4: three window where it has to happen right now. Everything
- 8:19Speaker 4: else is nothing else matters, Briandan. They're not else man.
- 8:22Speaker 5: They're not in that.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Look, it's about this year because it's six and two.
- 8:26Speaker 2: You're right there, and I think everybody would say the
- 8:28Speaker 2: Jaguars are a legitimate contender, But it can't be all
- 8:32Speaker 2: about this year, especially with the players that you want
- 8:35Speaker 2: to play and John going.
- 8:36Speaker 5: Forward, they're also a legitimate contender with this group. What's it? Right?
- 8:39Speaker 2: Right?
- 8:39Speaker 5: That's it?
- 8:40Speaker 2: And you don't want to sacrifice the future for the president,
- 8:43Speaker 2: not in the third year. If he was at year
- 8:46Speaker 2: fifteen and you're trying to eke out something at the
- 8:49Speaker 2: end of his career. Well, yeah, then then you swing
- 8:51Speaker 2: for the fences. But I think it was a It
- 8:54Speaker 2: was predestined. You weren't going to get one of those
- 8:56Speaker 2: pass rushers for a fifth round pick, and you weren't
- 9:00Speaker 2: gonna give up your first round pick. You just weren't
- 9:01Speaker 2: gonna do it. But I think if people look at
- 9:03Speaker 2: it objectively, the salary that Sweat got in Chicago tells
- 9:07Speaker 2: you why the Jaguars couldn't do it right.
- 9:09Speaker 1: And if you're gonna be dishing out the money, I
- 9:11Speaker 1: would imagine you want to give that to your own
- 9:12Speaker 1: guy and Josh Allen with what he's been able to
- 9:14Speaker 1: do this season, all right, stay with us. Coming up
- 9:16Speaker 1: after the break, we're gonna look around the AFC South
- 9:18Speaker 1: because the Jags didn't play, but a whole lot of
- 9:20Speaker 1: stuff went down. Welcome back to Jags am as we
- 9:28Speaker 1: moved the freight. Move the freight. Magellan Transport is what
- 9:30Speaker 1: the coolest office space in Jacksonville. You can apply online
- 9:33Speaker 1: at Magellanlogistics dot com. And of course our show today
- 9:36Speaker 1: is also brought to you by Carshield. If you're out
- 9:38Speaker 1: of your car's manufacturing warranty. Don't get stuck with those
- 9:41Speaker 1: expensive mechanical and computer repairs. You can call car shield
- 9:44Speaker 1: right now. Welcome back to Jagsam. We're here in the
- 9:46Speaker 1: Hundai studios after a bye week feeling very refreshed. We're
- 9:49Speaker 1: happy to be back talking about football. And the Jags
- 9:52Speaker 1: didn't play, but there was a lot of stuff going
- 9:53Speaker 1: down in the AFC South this week. On Thursday Night Football,
- 9:56Speaker 1: we saw a team we just played in the Steelers,
- 9:58Speaker 1: facing off against the Titans. And Levis had those four
- 10:01Speaker 1: touchdowns in his first game. Didn't look quite as good
- 10:03Speaker 1: in his second game, but he still seems to be
- 10:06Speaker 1: a little bit better option I'm gonna speak and say
- 10:09Speaker 1: than what they have had at quarterback, and he seems
- 10:11Speaker 1: to open up some stuff for the Titans, who look
- 10:14Speaker 1: a little bit more dangerous than they have so far
- 10:15Speaker 1: this year.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Well, Tanne Hill's in the final year of his deals,
- 10:17Speaker 2: so you're obviously not going to go forward with a
- 10:20Speaker 2: thirty five year old quarterback that didn't get you over
- 10:22Speaker 2: the hump. When I look at Will Levis, I see
- 10:24Speaker 2: a Ben Roethlisberger type quarterback. He's big, long, powerful as
- 10:29Speaker 2: a rocket for an arm. Now, he's not Roethlisberger, at
- 10:33Speaker 2: least not at this point his career obviously, but he
- 10:36Speaker 2: can make all the throws. What he's got to figure
- 10:38Speaker 2: out from what I hear is how to read the defense,
- 10:42Speaker 2: especially in the fourth quarter of a game in the
- 10:43Speaker 2: red zone, which he didn't do very well the other night.
- 10:46Speaker 2: But this was his second start. I mean, he he's
- 10:49Speaker 2: got a cannon. He's a nice looking player.
- 10:51Speaker 1: He'll stand in there and take a hit as well.
- 10:52Speaker 1: TJ and Watt was very complimentary of the opposing quarterback
- 10:56Speaker 1: in this game, and John, there's a lot of young
- 10:59Speaker 1: quarterbacks in the stiff all of a sudden that don't
- 11:01Speaker 1: look too bad.
- 11:02Speaker 4: Yeah, Levis has arm talent. He gives them a shot,
- 11:05Speaker 4: and most importantly for the franchise, he gives them something
- 11:10Speaker 4: where they probably don't have to worry about going to
- 11:11Speaker 4: get quarterback this offseason so they can start building now.
- 11:14Speaker 4: They feel like they can be legitimate with this guy.
- 11:18Speaker 4: The Colts, I think, feel the same way about Anthony Richardson.
- 11:22Speaker 4: There has to be major concerns with him hurt three
- 11:26Speaker 4: times early in his career and then out as a rookie.
- 11:29Speaker 4: He's got to come back and prove that that's not
- 11:32Speaker 4: what he is. Obviously, CJ. Stroud looked very good, didn't
- 11:37Speaker 4: look great the last two weeks. I'm getting a lot
- 11:39Speaker 4: of emails why can't Trevor do what CJ. Stroud did
- 11:43Speaker 4: because in the last five game he hasn't had to.
- 11:46Speaker 4: When you're down late in games, you have to throw
- 11:48Speaker 4: a lot. The Jaguars, remember, haven't been down in games,
- 11:52Speaker 4: so you're not gonna have four hundred and fifty yards
- 11:55Speaker 4: passing when you're up in the second half of games.
- 11:59Speaker 4: Usually those are usually these kind of games. So I'm
- 12:01Speaker 4: not worried. Jaguars fans have been bad for so long
- 12:06Speaker 4: that when they see another team excel, they think that
- 12:09Speaker 4: it's unfair that other team excels. But the Jaguars are
- 12:14Speaker 4: doing fine. There's anything wrong with Trevor Lawrence.
- 12:16Speaker 5: Just because CJ.
- 12:16Speaker 4: Stroud had four to seventy terror Lawrence was off, it
- 12:20Speaker 4: doesn't make Trevor Lawrence a bad quarter.
- 12:21Speaker 2: But not usually exclusive. Right. Look, here's the thing about Stroud,
- 12:24Speaker 2: and Jeff Loghman said this to me the week that
- 12:27Speaker 2: we saw them. He's an effortless passer. It makes it
- 12:31Speaker 2: look he makes it look pretty. He makes it look easy.
- 12:34Speaker 2: He's fearless, he loves the game. And you know what
- 12:36Speaker 2: he does. He throws out all those test scores because
- 12:39Speaker 2: remember that was the knock on you that he didn't
- 12:41Speaker 2: test all that well. But when you listen to his
- 12:43Speaker 2: press conferences and you hear how articulate and intelligent and
- 12:47Speaker 2: well spoken the kid is, you realize this is everything
- 12:50Speaker 2: that you want. The arm, the person, the leader, the intellect,
- 12:54Speaker 2: the love of the game. What I see when I
- 12:56Speaker 2: watch him is, oh boy, we're gonna have some great
- 12:59Speaker 2: matchups in the AFS South, especially if Levis and Richardson
- 13:02Speaker 2: come along. You'll go from a quarterback desert right to
- 13:05Speaker 2: the oasis. It looks like it's gonna be a lot
- 13:08Speaker 2: of fun to line up against c J. Stroud. I
- 13:11Speaker 2: say that not being the defensive coordinator obviously, but if
- 13:14Speaker 2: you're a fan watching these games, I mean it's it
- 13:16Speaker 2: gives you real hope that this division is going to
- 13:18Speaker 2: be a lot of fun to watch.
- 13:19Speaker 4: And that's how Again, a lot of Jawars fans don't
- 13:23Speaker 4: feel that way. It's not fair that c. J. Strouds
- 13:26Speaker 4: and the division. Look, if you're it's part of my
- 13:29Speaker 4: hot take too. But if you're going to win the division,
- 13:34Speaker 4: it's not always going to be and it's not supposed
- 13:37Speaker 4: to be one team thirteen and four, right, and the
- 13:40Speaker 4: other team seven and may not seven and ten. This
- 13:43Speaker 4: is a hard league. You're supposed to have division rivalries
- 13:47Speaker 4: at the end. You're supposed to have stuff that's fun.
- 13:50Speaker 5: It's okay for c. J. Strow to be good.
- 13:52Speaker 2: The Jaguars can be bad, just a little perspective. I
- 13:54Speaker 2: can only think of two rookie quarterbacks where I went
- 13:56Speaker 2: whoa one was Roethlisberger who I mentioned earlier, who got
- 13:59Speaker 2: into the lineup, started as the third quarterback in two
- 14:02Speaker 2: thousand and four. Charlie Batch gets hurt, Tommy Maddox doesn't
- 14:05Speaker 2: play well. He goes in and they win thirteen games right,
- 14:08Speaker 2: eleven regular season, and he gets them to the AFC
- 14:11Speaker 2: Championship game where they lose to Tom Brady and the Patriots.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Of course he step that team had four Hall of
- 14:17Speaker 2: famers on it already, Jerome Bettis, Hines Ward, Alan Fanica,
- 14:23Speaker 2: and Troy Polamalu. So right then you get and it
- 14:27Speaker 2: wasn't really his rookie season. It was Pat Mahomes, who
- 14:30Speaker 2: started only one game as a rookie at the end
- 14:32Speaker 2: of the year, and then he gets into twenty eighteen. Johnny,
- 14:34Speaker 2: you think, well, he's gonna struggle, this is his first
- 14:36Speaker 2: year as a starter. Well he didn't. He took that
- 14:39Speaker 2: team to the AFC Championship Game. I don't think CJ.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Stroud's going to do that. The roster isn't good enough
- 14:44Speaker 2: in Houston. But it's good enough for him to go
- 14:46Speaker 2: and do something like that after two bad games, and
- 14:49Speaker 2: to do it again. We see them in a couple
- 14:50Speaker 2: of weeks. I mean that he's really talented, really good.
- 14:56Speaker 1: And it doesn't take anything away from Trevor Lawrence either.
- 14:58Speaker 1: I think sometimes we have to forget people like all,
- 15:00Speaker 1: but I'm like, no, it's a good thing. It's a
- 15:01Speaker 1: good thing. You're going to be facing off against other
- 15:03Speaker 1: good quarterbacks in your own division. We talked about Iron
- 15:05Speaker 1: Sharpen's iron out here all the time. That's exactly what
- 15:07Speaker 1: you're going to see, especially when you're going up against
- 15:09Speaker 1: someone that you know you could be in a shootout
- 15:11Speaker 1: every time you have a game. When you'd see Tom
- 15:13Speaker 1: Brady and Peyton Manning in those shootouts, that made them better.
- 15:16Speaker 2: And then here's behind the scenes right, how the sausage
- 15:19Speaker 2: is made. The Texans are not a big draw when
- 15:21Speaker 2: they come here. They don't sell a ton of tickets
- 15:23Speaker 2: when they come here. The Jaguars usually. Last year the
- 15:26Speaker 2: Texans game was the salute to No sorry that sclute service.
- 15:30Speaker 2: It was the Baselli game. They wanted to sell more tickets,
- 15:32Speaker 2: so they had Biselli's bust here and they had the
- 15:35Speaker 2: alumni here. If that quarterback plays like that, you'll sell
- 15:38Speaker 2: tickets to the Texans game. It helps everybody. When you've
- 15:41Speaker 2: got good quarterback play in the division.
- 15:43Speaker 1: It's definitely a good thing elsewhere in the division. We've
- 15:45Speaker 1: been talking about the Colts a little bit, maybe outperforming
- 15:47Speaker 1: than what we thought they were going to do, especially
- 15:49Speaker 1: with Anthony Richardson not going to be available for the
- 15:51Speaker 1: rest of the season. But how about this defense we
- 15:53Speaker 1: saw from them. Kennymore had two pick six touchdowns for them.
- 15:57Speaker 1: I know Gardner Minshew's some more familiar with he's managing
- 15:59Speaker 1: the game as manages a game, but when you get
- 16:01Speaker 1: two pick six is from your defense, you're probably gonna
- 16:03Speaker 1: win a football game. And from the same guy as well.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Part of that's Bryce Young. Having Bryce Young rookie moments,
- 16:09Speaker 1: but still that is impressive.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Jaguars fans might be complaining about c J. Stroud, but
- 16:14Speaker 2: if you're a panther span you have to be complaining.
- 16:18Speaker 2: And we took Bryce Young who has not looked impressive
- 16:21Speaker 2: yet this year.
- 16:22Speaker 1: He hasn't and it's a tough situation to be in.
- 16:24Speaker 1: And I'm a big proponent of you know, I don't
- 16:26Speaker 1: expect rookies to come out and light the world on fire, either,
- 16:28Speaker 1: so I think there's still time for Bryce Young. But
- 16:30Speaker 1: it doesn't help when c J. Stroud is doing what
- 16:32Speaker 1: he's been doing.
- 16:33Speaker 5: Yeah the past right.
- 16:34Speaker 4: I mean, it was a nice play with a Colt Savender,
- 16:36Speaker 4: but it was also a phone right to him and
- 16:39Speaker 4: he ran it back. So I think the Colts should
- 16:44Speaker 4: be in the Jaguars rear view for the rest of
- 16:46Speaker 4: the year.
- 16:46Speaker 5: They've swept him.
- 16:47Speaker 4: Jaguars have a lead unless something goes very wrong, and
- 16:49Speaker 4: I worry about the Colts. The Texans are the team
- 16:52Speaker 4: that because they beat Jaguars here, the Jaguars still have
- 16:57Speaker 4: some work to do the sort of put them in
- 17:00Speaker 4: the rear views. So beating them a couple of.
- 17:02Speaker 5: Weeks, yeah, that's the work.
- 17:04Speaker 1: That is the work all right, stay with us. We've
- 17:06Speaker 1: got hot takes coming up after the break. Here on

- 17:32Speaker 1: We're off bye week. It's Monday. We're getting ready for
- 17:34Speaker 1: the forty nine ers on Sunday. We've got some hot takes.
- 17:37Speaker 1: You've had a whole week to brew on these hot takes. So, Brian,
- 17:40Speaker 1: what was your kind of thoughts after this last week
- 17:42Speaker 1: in games you watched? In your hot take this.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Week, Jaguars fans be thankful for Trevor Lawrence. There was
- 17:48Speaker 2: a lot of bad and backup quarterback play yesterday. Let
- 17:51Speaker 2: me just go through the list of guys. Sam Howe
- 17:53Speaker 2: for the Commanders, Mac Jones for the Patriots, Tommy DeVito
- 17:57Speaker 2: for the Giants. Aiden O'Connell didn't play badly for the Raiders,
- 18:00Speaker 2: but Aidan O'Connell, Tyler, Heineke, Clayton Tune, congratulations to Josh Dobbs,
- 18:06Speaker 2: Brett Rippin, Tyler Bagen, Tyson badget the quarterback for the Bears.
- 18:12Speaker 2: You get journeymen like Gardner Minshew, Jimmy Garoppolo, Derek Carr.
- 18:16Speaker 2: In other words, there are lots.
- 18:17Speaker 5: Of teams they Cody Kessler play he should right.
- 18:21Speaker 2: I mean, that's the list, right, A bunch of guys,
- 18:24Speaker 2: none of whom you want as your starting quarterback. None
- 18:28Speaker 2: of these guys you want as your starting quarterback. And
- 18:30Speaker 2: the league yesterday had a lot of these guys in
- 18:33Speaker 2: the same game. And how about in Deshaun Watson back
- 18:36Speaker 2: before you're playing PJ. Walker. There are John There's always
- 18:39Speaker 2: been a few of quarterbacks. You win because of a
- 18:44Speaker 2: lot of quarterbacks you can win with, and then some
- 18:46Speaker 2: quarterbacks that you don't want, right And there are more
- 18:50Speaker 2: quarterbacks who you don't want on the on the field
- 18:53Speaker 2: right now than the quarterbacks that you can win with,
- 18:56Speaker 2: let alone the ones you win because a lot of
- 18:59Speaker 2: really apt merged to below average quarterback play. You don't
- 19:02Speaker 2: have that problem here. You have a quarterback on a
- 19:04Speaker 2: team that twenty five in a row, hasn't trailed in
- 19:06Speaker 2: the second half and just playing at a high level.
- 19:08Speaker 4: And it's very separated, right, I mean it's it's it's
- 19:11Speaker 4: Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs, oh guess what, they're good, Lamar
- 19:14Speaker 4: Jackson and the Ravens Eri. So it's it's always a quarterback league.
- 19:19Speaker 4: But the solid franchises look really solid there. And it's
- 19:24Speaker 4: as you said watching it yesterday, what's hard to imagine
- 19:27Speaker 4: is it's hard to imagine a team without a guy
- 19:32Speaker 4: right now getting up into that group that it'll happen.
- 19:35Speaker 4: Somebody will be playing in the last six or eight,
- 19:40Speaker 4: teams that were not expecting. Maybe the Vikings, they're hot,
- 19:42Speaker 4: but it's hard to imagine anything sustainable if you're not
- 19:45Speaker 4: talking about one of those franchise with a guy right now.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Yeah, and look not to pick on Gardner Minshew, but
- 19:50Speaker 2: Kenny Moore had more return yards than Garden Minshew had
- 19:53Speaker 2: matching yards yesterday, right.
- 19:55Speaker 1: And how about this touchdowns as well?
- 19:56Speaker 2: And how about next week? You know, yesterday you had
- 19:58Speaker 2: a Premier matchup in Frankfurt for the international game, you
- 20:02Speaker 2: had Patrick Mahomes and Tua Right next week you have
- 20:07Speaker 2: Gardner Minshew and Mac Jones. That's a big step down in.
- 20:12Speaker 1: That premiere game. John, I know you have a hot
- 20:14Speaker 1: take one related to that. Would you see that game?
- 20:17Speaker 5: Well, the Chiefs still look like the Chiefs. They still
- 20:20Speaker 5: look like the team to beat.
- 20:21Speaker 4: They look to me like the team that will probably
- 20:24Speaker 4: be hosting throughout the playoffs. I mean that's not a given,
- 20:29Speaker 4: but if you had to pick a team right now,
- 20:33Speaker 4: they and the Ravens have the best record chief of
- 20:35Speaker 4: host of the AC champion in game five years.
- 20:37Speaker 5: They look like the team to be good. Go beat them.
- 20:41Speaker 4: And this is sort of I'm probably angry with my
- 20:47Speaker 4: inbox a little bit because I always get these email. Oh,
- 20:50Speaker 4: the Chiefs look like they're a team. They have Patrick Mahomes. Again,
- 20:53Speaker 4: we're not gonna be able to go ahead and get that.
- 20:56Speaker 4: If you're going to get to where you want to
- 20:58Speaker 4: go in this league, you're gonna have beat good teams
- 21:01Speaker 4: to get there. If the Chiefs aren't good, somebody else
- 21:03Speaker 4: can be good. If the Texans aren't good, somebody else
- 21:05Speaker 4: is gonna be good. So stop worrying so much about
- 21:09Speaker 4: what the rest of the league does and realize that
- 21:12Speaker 4: if the Jaguars win they're six and two right now,
- 21:15Speaker 4: they have nine games left. If they go seven and
- 21:18Speaker 4: two over that stretch, they're thirteen and four, and I
- 21:22Speaker 4: would give them a coin flip's chance to have a
- 21:24Speaker 4: number one seed or number two.
- 21:26Speaker 5: Well, that gets you in the mix. Go win.
- 21:28Speaker 4: Cincinnati won and Kansas City a couple of years, so
- 21:31Speaker 4: it's it doesn't. All teams that have won the Super
- 21:38Speaker 4: Bowl have beaten two or three good teams to get there.
- 21:41Speaker 4: You're gonna have to beat somebody good. It may as
- 21:42Speaker 4: well be the Chiefs.
- 21:43Speaker 2: By the way, you mentioned that they've hosted five consecutive
- 21:46Speaker 2: basically title games, so three and two of those games,
- 21:47Speaker 2: not five and all right, the Patriots got them and Cincinnati,
- 21:51Speaker 2: Cincinnati got them. And you know, Kansas City won yesterday
- 21:55Speaker 2: not because Patrick Mahomes was on fire. They won because
- 21:58Speaker 2: their defense, I mean absolutely put the clamps on Tua
- 22:03Speaker 2: and Tyreek and that crowd. They didn't score the Chiefs
- 22:06Speaker 2: a touchdown in the second half, even when the game
- 22:09Speaker 2: got close, they didn't score. In fact, they went three
- 22:11Speaker 2: and out on a critical series late in the ballgame
- 22:14Speaker 2: that put the ball back in the hands of Tua
- 22:17Speaker 2: and Miami, and they didn't get it done. So Kancy's
- 22:21Speaker 2: really good because that quarterback can play at a very
- 22:23Speaker 2: high level. But they're not the same as they've been
- 22:26Speaker 2: in years past. They don't have those other receivers that
- 22:28Speaker 2: can take advantage of the downfield attack. Yesterday, the Dolphins
- 22:33Speaker 2: threw a lot at the tight end and Kelsey was
- 22:36Speaker 2: not as big a factor, but none of the other
- 22:38Speaker 2: receivers were either, So it was their defense that wanted
- 22:40Speaker 2: four yesterday. If you can put points up, if your
- 22:42Speaker 2: offense get started, you can run with those guys.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Yeah, not looking past this Sunday's game because obviously, yeah,
- 22:50Speaker 4: forty nine ers are as good as any team the
- 22:51Speaker 4: Gyrars to play this year, but the Bengals Ravens here,
- 22:56Speaker 4: probably even more than the Chiefs because the Chiefs was
- 22:58Speaker 4: so early. It's hard to call an early season game
- 23:01Speaker 4: of benchmark because so much changes as the year goes on.
- 23:05Speaker 4: Those two games against those two teams are as big
- 23:09Speaker 4: a regular season stretched as the Jaguars have had.
- 23:12Speaker 5: Whatever.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, oh no, you are exactly right. Two home
- 23:17Speaker 2: games in three weeks in primetime in December again for
- 23:20Speaker 2: those kind of teams for home field in the in
- 23:23Speaker 2: the AFC. Oh yeah, that is easily far and away
- 23:27Speaker 2: the biggest stretch of games on a Jaguars schedule in
- 23:31Speaker 2: their franchise.
- 23:32Speaker 4: And I think if you look back, I think that's
- 23:34Speaker 4: because when they were really good in the nineties, the
- 23:37Speaker 4: schedule wasn't quite set up and there were three divisions,
- 23:41Speaker 4: if I'm not mistaken, remember that right, So you didn't
- 23:45Speaker 4: quite have this one plays one three different times in
- 23:50Speaker 4: the schedule, fore most different the way you do now.
- 23:53Speaker 4: So now you're gonna play those, So it sets up
- 23:56Speaker 4: for more games like this.
- 23:57Speaker 5: And the Jaguars, I guess what.
- 24:00Speaker 2: They're good And just one final thought on that. The Ravens.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Their offense they almost ran for three hundred yard yesterday,
- 24:05Speaker 2: two hundred and ninety eight, and their defense is so good,
- 24:08Speaker 2: and they have dominant wins over Seattle, who would look
- 24:10Speaker 2: good to this point, and Detroit, who looked great to
- 24:13Speaker 2: the point that they went and got hammered by those guys.
- 24:15Speaker 2: I think, I think Baltimore might be the best team
- 24:18Speaker 2: in the league right now.
- 24:19Speaker 1: They are, and I think or I think they're one
- 24:22Speaker 1: of the hottest teams. Is what I will speak to,
- 24:23Speaker 1: because you know, we've seen the Chiefs win games, but
- 24:26Speaker 1: they're doing in different ways. They're not doing it necessarily
- 24:28Speaker 1: Patrick mahomes doing crazy things. But you know, no one's
- 24:31Speaker 1: ragging on them for that as much as they rag
- 24:33Speaker 1: on Trevor for not doing things when we work because
- 24:35Speaker 1: they have the resume, I know, and they've earned it,
- 24:37Speaker 1: so I won't rag on that in that regard. But
- 24:39Speaker 1: Jaguars don't get a ton of respect. And my hot
- 24:41Speaker 1: take is about the disrespect. I think it's a good
- 24:43Speaker 1: thing because it builds character. Right, we've been hearing I've
- 24:46Speaker 1: been seeing that graphic on Twitter all the time with
- 24:48Speaker 1: Mac Jones compared to Trevor Lawrence. They're three seasons together,
- 24:51Speaker 1: and how they're pretty much the same quarterback. Everybody's talking
- 24:53Speaker 1: about the Texans and how they're going to give them
- 24:55Speaker 1: a run in the AFC South. You know, a whole
- 24:58Speaker 1: bunch of other things. I think they're is that they
- 25:00Speaker 1: were voted like the worst six and two team when
- 25:02Speaker 1: they were going over that last week, and it's a
- 25:05Speaker 1: good thing for this team. Yes, there should be expectations
- 25:07Speaker 1: here in Jacksonville. We want them to win, but I
- 25:10Speaker 1: think they thrive off that. Maybe I'm just the petty
- 25:12Speaker 1: kind of person I thrive off of it when people
- 25:14Speaker 1: talk down about me or my team, and I think
- 25:16Speaker 1: the team thrives off that too. You can see it
- 25:18Speaker 1: whenever there was there's any football in Trevor's coming out
- 25:20Speaker 1: and getting a little saucy on Twitter about you know,
- 25:22Speaker 1: we'll just find ways to win and they can criticize
- 25:24Speaker 1: how I play. The Jaguars have that little bit of
- 25:28Speaker 1: a chip on their shoulder from that, whether they'll admit
- 25:30Speaker 1: it or not, or even those two games that they
- 25:31Speaker 1: lost when they lost to the Texans and the Chiefs
- 25:34Speaker 1: right there, and then they kind of took that got
- 25:36Speaker 1: back on track with things. And I think this little
- 25:38Speaker 1: run that they have. They're already underdogs to the forty
- 25:41Speaker 1: nine ers this week on Sunday when they're playing at home,
- 25:43Speaker 1: and I think that'll drive them to be a little bit.
- 25:46Speaker 1: We'll it take it up a little bit. As we've
- 25:47Speaker 1: seen them going throughout the season, they're improving every week
- 25:50Speaker 1: and I think they're gonna be continuing to do that.
- 25:52Speaker 4: Start One thought on on on this worst six and
- 25:56Speaker 4: two teams in the NFL.
- 25:57Speaker 5: First, they're still better than all the other thing is
- 26:00Speaker 5: that coming.
- 26:02Speaker 2: From Jaguars fans.
- 26:04Speaker 1: No, No, No, it was like they were doing like a
- 26:06Speaker 1: like a lot of the different pundons were doing like, oh,
- 26:08Speaker 1: of all the six and two teams, and they're like, well,
- 26:09Speaker 1: I can't trusts because they're the jaguars'n't trust don't trust it.
- 26:14Speaker 1: If you.
- 26:16Speaker 4: The six teams they've beaten, if the teams that they
- 26:20Speaker 4: beat would have won those games, every team they've played
- 26:24Speaker 4: would be over five hundred. Series are five and three,
- 26:27Speaker 4: Saints are five and four.
- 26:30Speaker 5: You know, so to me, this has not been a
- 26:33Speaker 5: soft schedule.
- 26:34Speaker 4: This has been a not a great schedule so far,
- 26:37Speaker 4: but you would feel differently about these teams. If the
- 26:41Speaker 4: Jarares hadn't beaten Seis would be six and two without
- 26:44Speaker 4: that and everybody talking about him as a hot team. So
- 26:47Speaker 4: Jags to take care of business against some uh not great,
- 26:52Speaker 4: but good teams the last five weeks.
- 26:55Speaker 2: The best thing about it is you get a chance
- 26:56Speaker 2: to go proven on Sunday by San Francisco.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Sure will previous what coming up the rest of me
- 27:00Speaker 1: Karen jaxxam Jags fans. If you want customize Jaguars furniture

- 27:15Speaker 1: for fans back here getting ready for the forty nine
- 27:18Speaker 1: Ers game on Sunday. That's going to be a good one.
- 27:21Speaker 1: I've been looking. I had that one of the ones
- 27:23Speaker 1: circled on my schedule. For sure, it's not a primetime one,
- 27:25Speaker 1: but it's going to have that primetime feel even with
- 27:28Speaker 1: whatever the forty nine ers are rolling out there, because
- 27:30Speaker 1: I know they've been dealing with a lot of injuries.
- 27:32Speaker 1: That's going to be a great matchup and just kind
- 27:33Speaker 1: of a measuring state game as well.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Brian, it is primarily for your offense because even though
- 27:39Speaker 2: you can look at the Niners and how they've struggled
- 27:41Speaker 2: to score the last couple of weeks, and how Brock
- 27:43Speaker 2: Purdy has had to play from behind for the first
- 27:45Speaker 2: time in his career and hasn't necessarily performed up to
- 27:48Speaker 2: the level that he did last year, their defense is well,
- 27:52Speaker 2: it's one player better now that you've got the pass
- 27:55Speaker 2: rusher from Washington added in there and Nick Bosa. The
- 27:58Speaker 2: last time we saw Nick Bosa he year, he was devastating.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Juwan Taylor had to block him and Juwan was constantly
- 28:06Speaker 2: in Trevor's back pocket. This was in two years ago,
- 28:10Speaker 2: in twenty twenty one, and there they George Joon Hargrag
- 28:15Speaker 2: the eighty million dollar tackle that they plugged in there
- 28:18Speaker 2: from Philadelphia last year. Fred Warner. I mean, they're just
- 28:20Speaker 2: they're gifted at every level with two or three players,
- 28:24Speaker 2: so your offense is going to have to be ready
- 28:28Speaker 2: to go.
- 28:28Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think it's a big game for the
- 28:30Speaker 4: Jaguars defense because what you just talked about will be
- 28:33Speaker 4: a storyline this week. Oh the forty nine ers defense
- 28:35Speaker 4: is this, this, and this. I don't think the Jaguars
- 28:37Speaker 4: defense will get talked about very much, but they're good
- 28:42Speaker 4: and it'll be a game where the Jaguars defense can
- 28:44Speaker 4: show that we can hang with this keviny what they get.
- 28:46Speaker 2: I think they get Deebo Shamuels back this week, right,
- 28:48Speaker 2: because he's been he's been that guy who's been that
- 28:51Speaker 2: trigger point is he's gonna run the ball, you're gonna
- 28:53Speaker 2: throw it to him. We saw him again at twenty
- 28:55Speaker 2: twenty one and he took the Jaguars defense apart that year.
- 28:58Speaker 2: So Brandon Ayuk has come and he's playing at a
- 29:01Speaker 2: high level. Kittle is one of the best, most difficult
- 29:04Speaker 2: to cover tight ends in the game. It's a big challenge.
- 29:08Speaker 2: This is a really good football team that hit a
- 29:10Speaker 2: rough stretch. They remember they beat the Cowboys on Sunday
- 29:13Speaker 2: Night Football forty to ten and you thought, oh, oh,
- 29:16Speaker 2: you know who's gonna get in their way? Well, a
- 29:20Speaker 2: couple of teams have since then. Remember the Bills came
- 29:21Speaker 2: to London and everyone thought, well, I mean they're scoring
- 29:24Speaker 2: forty one points and only giving up ten. The Jaguars
- 29:26Speaker 2: got in their way, So here's a chance to go
- 29:28Speaker 2: and do it again.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Should be interesting, and hopefully the Jaguars have had some
- 29:31Speaker 1: time to get healthy in the bye week as well,
- 29:33Speaker 1: because we know Tyson cambell Andr Cisco Walker little of course,
- 29:35Speaker 1: so hopefully all of them will be back and then
- 29:37Speaker 1: we'll get to see both these teams at full strength
- 29:39Speaker 1: or close to it in this matchup on Sunday. Coming
- 29:42Speaker 1: up later in the week, we'll talk more about that
- 29:43Speaker 1: forty nine ers matchup. We'll see you back here on
- 29:45Speaker 1: Jagsam on Wednesday in compete in still p
