Latest / The Psychic Explorer / Paranormal Investigation Debrief: Spirit Boxes, Dowsing Rods & Real Ghost Hunting (with Joolz Bailey) 🔮
Transcript
- 0:18Hello everyone and welcome along to this bonus
- 0:21episode of The Psyche Explorer following up our
- 0:25paranormal investigation with Jules Bailey. In
- 0:29the last episode, it was a bumper hour and a
- 0:32half long where I was taken to a secret location
- 0:35and spent a very good evening investigating paranormal
- 0:39comings and goings. Jaws had a silver case full
- 0:44of gadgets and gizmos, which we used to try and
- 0:46detect ghosts, spirits, and paranormal anomalies.
- 0:50As I said at the end of the last episode, I didn't
- 0:53have time to splice in Jaws' interview to that
- 0:56episode. It would have been way too long. Thank
- 0:59you so much for coming back to this interview
- 1:02where we discuss how we felt the night went.
- 1:06I would really be interested to hear what your
- 1:08thoughts are. Are you team believer? Are you
- 1:11team skeptic? Are you team not quite sure? Let
- 1:15me know. You can find me at the .psychic .explorer,
- 1:20Facebook, Instagram, threads, even on TikTok,
- 1:23although I still haven't added anything to that
- 1:25yet. If you have any ideas, any thoughts, any
- 1:28explanations as to what we experienced on that
- 1:31evening, I'd love for you to reach out. Give
- 1:33me a shout. But for now, here is the lovely Jules
- 1:37Bailey as we discuss our paranormal investigation.
- 1:44Hello, Jules. Lovely to see your face again.
- 1:47How the devil are you? I'm really good. Thank
- 1:50you, Matt. Lovely to see you again as well. Thank
- 1:53you so much for coming on to this bonus episode.
- 1:56I wanted to... capture your thoughts on that
- 1:59amazing night that you invited me on. The episode
- 2:03was quite long, about an hour and a half long.
- 2:05I thought to add you onto that as well might
- 2:08be a bit much for the dear listeners. I thought,
- 2:10let's have a little bonus episode to analyze
- 2:13how the night went. From my point of view, Jules,
- 2:18I thought it was incredible, but I'm really intrigued
- 2:21to hear. how it was for you, because you do this
- 2:25a lot. Tell the audience, tell the listeners
- 2:29your background and your history with paranormal
- 2:32investigating. Oh, wow. I thought you said you
- 2:35only wanted it to be an hour. Okay, I'll try
- 2:37and condense it as best I can. Yeah, if you can.
- 2:40Okay, I'll try. Probably about 20 years ago now,
- 2:43roughly, I started going along to paranormal
- 2:46investigations. These were public investigations.
- 2:50The idea was that you pay to go on the event
- 2:53and they lay on all sorts of activities on the
- 2:57night so it would be vigils, it would be sitting
- 3:00in a room by yourself doing lone vigils with
- 3:03a locked off camera, they would do things like
- 3:06table tipping and seances and Ouija boards and
- 3:09all sorts of things to give you that experience.
- 3:12And I thought, my goodness, I love this. I'd
- 3:15had a lifelong interest in anything that was
- 3:18spooky, anything paranormal, ghosts in particular.
- 3:21So, yeah, I said, how do I get more involved?
- 3:24And they invited me and my other half, Andy,
- 3:27to join them, which we did. We were with them
- 3:30for probably a couple of years, I would say.
- 3:33And then we kind of decided that actually public
- 3:36events weren't for us. It wasn't really the route
- 3:41that we wanted to go down. As soon as you introduce
- 3:44the public to an event, then you've got a very,
- 3:46very different kind of investigation. Because
- 3:50you're no longer there just purely to investigate,
- 3:53you're there to entertain, really. I was going
- 3:56to say, does that introduce an element of their
- 3:59expectation being a thrill or being spooked or
- 4:02being something immediate? It does. And a big
- 4:05problem with that is... When people are paying
- 4:08money to go on an investigation, they want things
- 4:11to happen. And as the person who is facilitating
- 4:15the evening, you want things to happen for them.
- 4:18And I can really see why that would easily lead
- 4:21to some of these public groups. I don't want
- 4:24to say the word faking. Embellishing? Yeah, embellishing.
- 4:28That's a better way of putting it. Because you
- 4:32want the public to have that good experience.
- 4:34And if it means that maybe you do embellish what
- 4:38has happened, then yeah, I can see clearly why
- 4:42people would want to do it. And that was a part
- 4:45of the reason why public investigations just
- 4:48weren't for us. So we took a big step back from
- 4:53the public stuff and we joined a local paranormal
- 4:56investigation group called NPEG, Norwich Paranormal
- 4:59Experience Group. and they didn't do public investigations
- 5:03at the time it was just pure investigation and
- 5:05that's really where I learned my craft so to
- 5:09speak I learned how to investigate properly and
- 5:13it wasn't for the thrills and spills of the audience
- 5:15anymore it was just purely for the opportunity
- 5:19to gather evidence and that was very eye -opening.
- 5:23Sadly that group went down the public investigation
- 5:26route as well. And it's tempting to do it, you
- 5:29see, I can see why it's tempting because you
- 5:32want to be able to bring this to the public in
- 5:35a really interesting way and give them that experience
- 5:38of investigating in a way that is, you know,
- 5:41it's nothing like on TV, you know, as you experienced
- 5:44yourself on the night, of course. So, yeah, we
- 5:47spent a couple of years with NPEG, but they went
- 5:50down that public route. So in the end, I thought,
- 5:52you know what, if I want to do it my way, I better
- 5:55do it. my way and that's when I started up Spirit
- 5:59Norwich and yeah we don't we don't advertise
- 6:03we don't do public events particularly except
- 6:05unless it's for a particular charitable event
- 6:08or something along those lines. Yeah, pure investigation.
- 6:11Love it. That's what we're all about. Love it.
- 6:14So you've done this for as you said 20 or so
- 6:18years now a long time you've got a lot of experience
- 6:20because this was my first time experience in
- 6:23this. One thing I said on the episode and one
- 6:26thing I want to just re -emphasize today is that
- 6:29I felt you handled that investigation, that demonstration
- 6:32really professionally. I felt it was cool, calm
- 6:36and I felt like I was in very safe hands. It
- 6:39was a real professional vibe. and you had an
- 6:44explanation for everything, you were able to
- 6:46explain things in a really logical manner, which
- 6:48I really appreciated because sometimes in my
- 6:51mind I can get a little bit too logical and you
- 6:53were able to re -emphasize where I was probably
- 6:57right in actually that probably isn't this, it's
- 6:59probably a natural phenomenon or actually there
- 7:03could be something else going on here. I felt
- 7:07that we had so much activity that evening. We
- 7:10had the music boxes going off constantly where
- 7:12it couldn't have picked us up. I know it took
- 7:14us a while to figure out where the sensor radius
- 7:18started and stopped, but once we figured it out,
- 7:21we were well out of its radius and that kept
- 7:23going off. AM music box outside that picked up
- 7:28on a couple of little things I thought and we'll
- 7:31go into that later on in this conversation as
- 7:34well. The ghost tube, our own personal psychic
- 7:38sensations, the dowsing rods, the pendants, the
- 7:41noises that we heard, especially that one particular
- 7:44time. Is that normal to have so much activity
- 7:47in one investigation? I think it very much depends
- 7:51upon the location. some places you go to the
- 7:54minute you walk in you think oh yeah we're in
- 7:57for a good night some places you go to it just
- 8:00feels completely flat sometimes I kind of get
- 8:04the feeling that we have to increase the energy
- 8:06in the place in order to make something happen
- 8:09because I suppose if you think about it as maybe
- 8:13if we go to an abandoned site I'll pick a random
- 8:17site from the top of my head, St. Bennett's Abbey.
- 8:20You'll find many paranormal investigators who
- 8:23will go and visit this site. But for the most
- 8:26part it is a ruin in the middle of the broads.
- 8:30It's not easily accessible so it's got a teeny
- 8:34tiny car park. It's only really locals who know
- 8:36about it. Maybe you might get the odd tourist
- 8:39who'll go past on a boat but that's kind of about
- 8:41it. So for the most part it's just sitting there
- 8:45just being empty just doing its thing you know
- 8:47just being a ruin in the middle of nowhere and
- 8:50so that energy isn't there then you compare that
- 8:53with maybe if you're investigating a pub or a
- 8:58popular venue somewhere in the city or maybe
- 9:00even somebody's own home then obviously you've
- 9:02got that constant energy happening there and
- 9:04I think that helps with the communication and
- 9:07with the activity at the place so yeah very much
- 9:11dependent upon where you are I'm so glad you
- 9:14bought up St. Benedict's Abbey because when this
- 9:17first came up I thought oh I wonder if we're
- 9:19going to go there because it's literally like
- 9:20five minutes drive from my house and I thought
- 9:23that there must be something going on there there
- 9:26must be something there because you're right
- 9:28it is just this very strangely shaped um it almost
- 9:32looks like an old hop house or something something
- 9:34you'd find in Kent with the old this big cone
- 9:37or brick cone rising from the middle of the broads
- 9:40but it was once an old abbey And I thought, oh,
- 9:43I'd love to go there just on the evening and
- 9:45just sort of sit and just feel, see what I can
- 9:48feel. We'll have to go there another time, Matt.
- 9:50We'll just have to do another one and I'll take
- 9:51you there. How about that? If you're up for that,
- 9:53I'd be well happy. And I'll bring my mega powerful
- 9:57torch to blind any bull that might try and stampede
- 10:00us because my torch on that night was pretty
- 10:03epic. I bought that on Amazon. I was really happy
- 10:05with that purchase. That was a good talk. I must
- 10:08admit I had torch envy. I'm not going to lie.
- 10:11Torch envy. Love it. Yeah, yeah, I've given someone
- 10:14torch envy. When we started the investigation,
- 10:18you said that you've been there several times
- 10:21before this location, this particular location,
- 10:24and you said that you had encountered a spirit
- 10:26and you wondered if you were going to encounter
- 10:28that spirit again. It didn't make the final edit,
- 10:32but at the end of the night you said... there's
- 10:35normally someone or something in the graveyard
- 10:38and he's like a caretaker. Could you explain
- 10:41just a bit more about what has been your previous
- 10:43experience at that location? So, yeah, I have
- 10:47been there a few times in the past and every
- 10:50time I've been I have... bumped into a gentleman
- 10:54in the grounds and he seems to be either a caretaker
- 10:59as you said, maybe a custodian, a groundsman,
- 11:02somebody who is looking after the the graveyard
- 11:05itself and He always seems to just be kind of
- 11:10like peeking around the corner of the church
- 11:13and just kind of like, you know, watching what's
- 11:16going on and making sure basically that, you
- 11:18know, we're not going to get up to mischief in
- 11:19his church. And he seems like a really kindly
- 11:23gentleman, somebody who is really wanting the
- 11:26best for the place. And I think maybe having
- 11:30spent so much of his time in that place, I think
- 11:34he's probably still drawn to it. I haven't really
- 11:37been able to find out a great deal about him
- 11:39as an individual. He's one of those, the country
- 11:44sort, you know, where if you have a conversation
- 11:46with him, oh, you all right, my man, how are
- 11:48you? You'll just get, I'm all right, you know,
- 11:50yep, all right. A big nod of the head while he's
- 11:53leaning on his hoe or his pitchfork or whatever
- 11:56implement he's using at the time. And, you know,
- 11:59just one of those who's a watcher as opposed
- 12:01to somebody who's there to have a big conversation.
- 12:05Yeah. And may I just add as well, just for international
- 12:08listeners, calling someone my man is nothing
- 12:12too personal or over familiar. That is a very
- 12:16Norfolk phrase, isn't it? To call someone my
- 12:18man is a very Norfolk phrase. My man, my woman.
- 12:23Or my lovely, if you want to go like Rick Norfolk.
- 12:27I am a Norwich girl, so those little phrases
- 12:31do slip out sometimes. I love it. You can go
- 12:3520 miles down the road and you've got a different
- 12:37accent. I used to live in the West Country, and
- 12:40the Norfolk and the West Country accent is kind
- 12:43of similar, but not... It really is. If you can
- 12:46hear someone really talking in broad Norfolk,
- 12:48it's like they're singing to you, and all the
- 12:51end of the sentences just have this huge inflection,
- 12:53like they're asking a question all the time.
- 12:55Yep, every time I used to rock up to my nanny's
- 12:57house, she'd open up the door and she'd say,
- 13:00do you keep trotting, boy? Shall I get the kettle
- 13:02on? So it was always a case of, OK... What does
- 13:07that one mean again? Oh, right. Yes. Are you
- 13:09okay, neighbor, my friend? Would you like me
- 13:13to get the kettle on? I think that's what it
- 13:14meant. For a deal. So just to go back to this
- 13:19guy, this Custodian, you didn't feel him there,
- 13:21or was there something? Because we both picked
- 13:23up on something at the very end. And again, I
- 13:26don't think it made the final edit, but we both
- 13:28picked up on something in that graveyard to the
- 13:32right of the church. Did you feel him all that
- 13:36evening or not? Yeah, I think it was him. When
- 13:40we very, very first arrived, I think I said I
- 13:43don't know if I feel anything at the moment,
- 13:45but just as we were about to go into the church,
- 13:48I felt like there was a little face just kind
- 13:50of peering around the edge of the church. So
- 13:53I was thinking that when we got outside, we might
- 13:55have had some more activity, but maybe he was
- 13:58just a bit too chilly. Well, someone didn't like
- 14:01our lights. Someone didn't like my light. No,
- 14:04the box kept saying turn it off, didn't it? Very
- 14:07strange. Let's work our way backwards then. So
- 14:10let's talk about that box because we're talking
- 14:13about the custodian outside. You took out the
- 14:17AM box. So let me just replay a few snippets
- 14:21from that AM box. I switched my torch to on.
- 14:39Good. Just as we turned the lights on. Yes. OK.
- 14:44You'd prefer us to have the lights on, would
- 14:45you? Yes. Yes. OK. We've got the lights on for
- 14:54you. Make a lot of noise. Yeah. Thanks. These
- 15:02people make a lot of noise. Yes. So, you brought
- 15:05up something that night, Jules. The power of
- 15:08pareidolia. Yeah. Was what we heard some things
- 15:13you think, or was that the power of pareidolia?
- 15:16I do think it was something. The reason I say
- 15:18that is because we got those answers in response
- 15:21to direct questions, and those answers made sense
- 15:24at that point. And... I think as I said on the
- 15:28night, you do have to be very careful with anything
- 15:32that you use on an investigation. You have to
- 15:34use everything with caution. And that's not from
- 15:37a health and safety perspective, that kind of
- 15:39caution. It's from the, okay, does this actually
- 15:42make sense? Is this logical and is it applicable?
- 15:45Because it is just so easy to just jump to the
- 15:48conclusion. Yes, it's paranormal. Yay, we've
- 15:51caught some evidence. Great. But unless it is
- 15:54logical and makes sense to the question that
- 15:57you're asking, you just have to discount it.
- 15:59And a little bit later on, we were still using
- 16:03the box, but the stuff that was coming out of
- 16:05it, you could tell was just utter nonsense. It
- 16:07had changed. There were kind of like two halves
- 16:10to using that piece of equipment, one half where
- 16:13it seemed as though the answers that we were
- 16:16getting were perfectly valid and the other half,
- 16:18where it was, just utter nonsense. For me, the
- 16:24music box was such a highlight of that evening.
- 16:27Once we had moved to the altar and we were asking
- 16:30our questions, it just kept going off. I was
- 16:35going to say at random times, but I don't think
- 16:39it was random. I think it was in response, because
- 16:42I had said... your rods are moving, mine are
- 16:46not. And let's just remind listeners the sound
- 16:51of that music box and some of the highlights
- 16:54of when that went off. This is called a spirit
- 16:58music box. So this is also a motion sensor on
- 17:03front here, just like the lights. So when I switch
- 17:06this on, you'll hear really horrible, haunting
- 17:09music. So be prepared. is we ask that our spirit
- 17:21team, so our guides, assist us now with this
- 17:25communication. The rods that Jules is holding
- 17:28start to move. So that's just like a little confirmation
- 17:34that we've got somebody with us, okay? That's
- 17:36our spirit team reporting that communication.
- 17:44Can you please move my rods to the direction
- 17:47of the font? Yours are going, mine aren't moving.
- 18:03So with this, to begin with, just hold the pendulum
- 18:05in your hand. Just feel... with us. You're very
- 18:19welcome here of course, we are in your space.
- 18:22So was this the church that you came to do your
- 18:27worship as a family? The pendulum say yes. Yes
- 18:31and it was boring. Were you bored? A very strong
- 18:37yes. Look at that strong yes. I don't blame you.
- 18:49What are your thoughts on that? You have got
- 18:51a lot of experience. I, for me, that night, that
- 18:55music box was the highlight. So what are your
- 18:57thoughts on the music box that evening? Do you
- 19:00know, when I first got that music box, obviously
- 19:04I was like a kid in a sweet shop and, you know,
- 19:06new piece of paranormal equipment. Yay, got a
- 19:08little bit of tech. And I excitedly popped it
- 19:12on the dining room table and it just kept going
- 19:15off all the time and it was like... Okay, I've
- 19:17just been conned here, haven't I? Somebody's
- 19:203D printed this little case and put a few little
- 19:24fancy electronic gizmos inside it and some flashing
- 19:27lights and yay, they've made a paranormal bit
- 19:29of kit. But the more I've used it, actually,
- 19:32the more it seems to be working in a way that
- 19:37can't be explained. And when you are talking
- 19:41and it goes off, it is like it is in response
- 19:44to your voice. and in my opinion that then becomes
- 19:49very valid and where we had it situated in between
- 19:52the pews there was no way that our movement could
- 19:57have triggered that. You asked me on the night
- 19:59about whether or not my shadow could set it off
- 20:01and so obviously just to be the professional
- 20:04paranormal investigator that I am I did dance
- 20:06like a loon and wave my arms around. But it's
- 20:11got to be done. Because if somebody asks a question,
- 20:15then actually it's like, OK, let's just test
- 20:17the theory. And that's, to my mind, what good
- 20:21investigation is about. Let's have a conversation
- 20:23about it. Let's test things out. Let's try it
- 20:26out and let's see if we can discount it. So that's
- 20:30why I was dancing like a fool. I thought it was
- 20:33a brilliant piece of... I was going to use the
- 20:37word evidence. But I stopped myself from using
- 20:40it for some reason. I don't know why because
- 20:42it did go off very random Not random, but very
- 20:47specific times. We were asking questions when
- 20:50my rods weren't working. It still went off I
- 20:53felt to confirm what we were asking I just thought
- 20:57that noise is so creepy, so creepy. Well, if
- 21:02you're going to build a bit of kit to use on
- 21:03a ghost hunt, then absolutely make it the creepiest
- 21:06tune that you can, obviously. What about the
- 21:11ghost tube camera? You got out your secondary
- 21:14mobile phone which has no access to the internet.
- 21:17Since the evening, I've done some research on
- 21:21these cameras, on these things, and I think it's
- 21:25fair to say There's a big old split. The scientific
- 21:32community are very much saying, no, there's absolutely
- 21:35no way this could pick anything up. And the paranormal
- 21:38community are saying, I hear it, but still. And
- 21:44that evening, I was very conscious that there
- 21:47was something next to you. There was something
- 21:49on your right. Yet when I turned around, it was
- 21:52picking up. the pews and making the pews into
- 21:55the shape of people. So I feel that we had the
- 21:58best of both. We had, yes it was picking up on
- 22:02the pews and it was making shapes from the pews
- 22:04and the random different shapes in the room but
- 22:07also it was picking up something where there
- 22:10was nothing to pick up on. Absolutely and once
- 22:14again some paranormal investigators as you say
- 22:18think it's an amazing piece of kit and they will
- 22:20rely heavily on it but it's just another piece
- 22:25of kit to use to gather and to build evidence
- 22:28and so I think maybe that's why you might have
- 22:30been reticent to say the word evidence before
- 22:32because actually it's that's only one small piece
- 22:37of the puzzle that happened on that night and
- 22:40it's not until you put it all together that you
- 22:42think to yourself actually yes we experienced
- 22:45something and with the SLS camera I think it's
- 22:50good actually that you saw it showing shapes
- 22:54when it was quite clearly just the edge of the
- 22:56pews. Yes. Because it allowed you to experience
- 23:00when it was obviously something normal so that
- 23:04then when you saw it when it was just beside
- 23:06me and there wasn't that pew next door then it's
- 23:11like oh actually that's now different so you're
- 23:14getting both sides of the story which again I
- 23:17think is valuable on investigations. And what
- 23:19I loved when I was filming you I was seeing something
- 23:23and before I even said it, you were saying, I'm
- 23:26feeling something on my right hand side. Same
- 23:28with me. When I got up and I said, there's something
- 23:31here, it's like someone's personal space and
- 23:34you're like, well, let's have a look and yep,
- 23:37there's something there. We both had that feeling
- 23:40at exactly the same time as it's showing up on
- 23:43the screen. I thought that was really interesting.
- 23:47And that really is the... power of using that
- 23:51kind of equipment because you use it in conjunction
- 23:54with your own senses and with other pieces of
- 23:59equipment and if all of the equipment is doing
- 24:02something fancy all at the same time and you're
- 24:05feeling something then you've got some good evidence.
- 24:08At the end of the day it's only ever going to
- 24:10be personal evidence. You could come to the best
- 24:14scientific minds with the best evidence that
- 24:17you could possibly find and they'll still find
- 24:19a way to tell you that actually it's perfectly
- 24:21normal. So we're never going to find actual evidence.
- 24:25I've resigned myself to that fact well and truly.
- 24:29How about the dowsing rods? Because that was
- 24:32my first sort of foray into dowsing rods. I'm
- 24:36aware of them. I had no idea that's what they
- 24:38look like in their... folded up form. I was very
- 24:41confused when you got this bunch of what looked
- 24:43like to me Parker pens out of your box of goodies.
- 24:47I think for me, I really struggled with them
- 24:50because I was so conscious of my micro movements
- 24:55of making it work. But then Since the investigation
- 25:02duels. I'm also thinking well hang on a minute
- 25:04even if they are my micro movements I don't know
- 25:08the answers to this this thing I don't I don't
- 25:11know the answers to it and actually if spirit
- 25:13is tapping into me and using my body to communicate
- 25:16Why would it not use micro movements to influence
- 25:20the dowsing rods you do does that make sense
- 25:22to you? It does, yes. I do think we still have
- 25:27to be very careful when it comes to those sorts
- 25:29of movements that we're not in control of because,
- 25:33let me put it this way, we were using one piece
- 25:37of equipment with one person and so the answers
- 25:41that we were getting seemed logical at that moment
- 25:44in time. Now take those micro movements and put
- 25:47that, say for example, with a group of people
- 25:51who are sat around a table and they're all touching
- 25:53a planchette and they're at a Ouija board and
- 25:57I will just briefly say Ouija boards can be perfectly
- 26:00safe if used properly and by well -trained people
- 26:03Please none of your listeners go out and buy
- 26:06a Ouija board and start having a go because they
- 26:08can be dangerous but if you are all there holding
- 26:12on to a planchette then one person's micro movements
- 26:16can set that planchette going because you're
- 26:18all there wanting it to happen. And so the slightest
- 26:22bit of movement and everybody can just run with
- 26:24it. And I think that is where you can then run
- 26:27into difficulties. And on an investigation in
- 26:30the past, my other half, he wanted to run more
- 26:34of a logical, logical, is that the right word?
- 26:37I don't know. I'll use it anyway. Investigation
- 26:40when it came to using the Ouija board. And he
- 26:45sat everybody around a table and he blindfolded
- 26:47everybody. And he was the one asking the questions.
- 26:50And what came out through the planchette moving
- 26:54on the Ouija board was utter tripe. And as soon
- 26:57as he took the blindfolds off, then straight
- 26:59away, it all started to make perfect sense. So
- 27:04those sorts of micro -movements where it's a
- 27:07group of people can be much more challenging.
- 27:10So what are your thoughts on the dowsing rods
- 27:11then? Are you pro -dowsing rods or are you...?
- 27:14Cautious with them. I am completely and utterly
- 27:17pro dousing rods. They have been used for hundreds
- 27:20of years successfully to find water so I know
- 27:25they work because how on earth is a human being
- 27:28supposed to find an underground stream for example
- 27:31We have utterly lost our connection with the
- 27:34earth to be able to do that kind of thing and
- 27:37yet you can get somebody in a field with a pair
- 27:39of copper rods and they can go straight to the
- 27:42water source. So they do work. They absolutely
- 27:45do work. I've done public investigations before
- 27:48where the members of the public have never used
- 27:51them before and with hidden things around the
- 27:54venue that we were at. Oh, I love it. And these
- 27:57members of the public were able to find these
- 27:59hidden objects using the dousing rods. And it
- 28:02was overwhelming the evidence in that situation
- 28:05that they do work. So, yeah, I'm 100 % behind
- 28:09them. Okay, Michael. Michael, Michael, Michael.
- 28:15This person, this spirit, this character, I feel
- 28:20like I managed to form a bit of a connection
- 28:23with this individual because I just felt there
- 28:27was this real fun playfulness around him. I could
- 28:31visualize him in my mind's eye. I knew there
- 28:34was another element of his name. I knew his age.
- 28:38as soon as he came through, I felt that he was
- 28:41really curious about us and wanted to play with
- 28:44us, and I felt like he was really interacting
- 28:48with us. I've got on my notes here, Michael,
- 28:52discuss. Whoa, broad, but okay. I'm going to
- 28:58leave that one with you, Jules, discuss. What
- 29:01were your thoughts on Michael? He seemed to be
- 29:04very typical of the sort of... person, spirit,
- 29:08that you find on investigations. Somebody who
- 29:12has maybe seen the activity in a place which
- 29:15maybe they would pass through, maybe on a day
- 29:18-to -day basis while they're going about their
- 29:20spirit life, and they saw something going on
- 29:23and just thought, hmm, what's happening in there
- 29:25tonight? I'm just going to have a pop -in. I
- 29:27seem to get that quite a bit where you have that
- 29:29kind of curious element to the spirit that you
- 29:32meet. And I thought he was adorable. I thought
- 29:35he was a very, very sweet little character. I
- 29:39do think he was playful. I think that's why he
- 29:41was setting off the spirit box, the music box.
- 29:45But yeah, it's a very typical kind of thing for
- 29:48me to encounter. I just got such a lovely vibe.
- 29:53And that whole evening spent in that church.
- 29:55There was nothing scary. There was nothing horrendous.
- 29:59I felt nothing but love and calmness. That was
- 30:05such a calm location. It is a lovely, wonderful
- 30:09place. I do think an element of how the investigation
- 30:13went on the night is down to our intention. We
- 30:16both seem to be people who like to work in the
- 30:20light and with love and I think that came across
- 30:23on the night. We're both very respectful human
- 30:26beings and at the end of the day it's their place.
- 30:32We are the ones who are intruding in their space
- 30:34when we go to these places and so my opinion
- 30:38has always been to be respectful of them. and
- 30:41then hopefully we get that respect in return.
- 30:44And I think we've felt that on the night, as
- 30:46you say, it did feel very, very calm. And it's
- 30:48just the way it should be. Paranormal investigation
- 30:51should not be sensationalised. Yeah, no, I agree.
- 30:54I think I agree. I am, yeah, it's, yeah. I think,
- 30:57well, again, just saying what I was saying earlier
- 31:00on, the professionalism that you've conducted
- 31:02this one with was just, I really appreciated
- 31:05it, I really enjoyed it. Thank you. It means
- 31:07a lot that you said that actually, so thank you
- 31:09very much. It does mean a lot to me. No, it's
- 31:11true. Honestly, I thought this was so... For
- 31:15me, I felt that I was heard as well when I doubted
- 31:21something, when I didn't hear something, when
- 31:23I didn't think it was something that you were
- 31:26saying or vice versa. I didn't feel like I couldn't
- 31:29say it. I felt like it was an open forum. Again,
- 31:33going back to that word, respect. Well, thank
- 31:35you. And that is the way it should always be.
- 31:38Always. Let's listen to the sound that we both
- 31:43heard. Let's just re -listen to that noise. Yeah,
- 31:50this is called... Did you hear that? Behind you.
- 31:57That was just like a creaking sound of somebody
- 32:00sitting on a pew, wasn't it? It was creaking.
- 32:03I heard that. And I'm freezing at my back. Now,
- 32:09since I've edited this episode, Jules, and since
- 32:12I was putting it all together, I realised what
- 32:15the beat was. Do you remember I said on the episode
- 32:17it sounds like something is mimicking your speech
- 32:20pattern? There's like a beat to it. Do you remember
- 32:23me saying that? Yes, I do. Yeah. I figured out
- 32:26what that is. That is because the microphone
- 32:29is constantly switching on and off and it only
- 32:32activates when it hears... a voice like when
- 32:36it records. So the reason why it sounds like
- 32:39it's in your speech pattern is because the microphone
- 32:45is constantly turning on and off when you're
- 32:48saying your words. And that is why it recorded
- 32:51the background noise in that strange pattern.
- 32:55Nonetheless, we still heard something and it
- 32:58still picks something up on that microphone.
- 33:01I thought that was amazing because we were both
- 33:04just talking normally and we both heard it, we
- 33:07both stopped and we looked behind you because
- 33:11we knew it came from within the church. Absolutely.
- 33:15And to get that kind of auditory noise, that
- 33:19real confirmation that both of us heard as well,
- 33:24that is... superb. It's not something which regularly
- 33:27happens on investigations. So I was actually
- 33:30over the moon when we both heard that. Because
- 33:32you heard something earlier on in the evening
- 33:34and you said it sounded like someone's skirt
- 33:37swishing. I didn't hear that. No. We both heard
- 33:41fireworks. We did. But we both heard this thing
- 33:46which was not fireworks because it came from
- 33:49within the church. It was like one of the pews
- 33:52was sort of squeaking. Absolutely, it was kind
- 33:55of like the noise of somebody sitting down on
- 33:57it, wasn't it? That kind of creaking sound of
- 34:00wood taking weight all of a sudden. So, yeah,
- 34:03it was a really, really cool noise. Yeah, I'm
- 34:06so gutted that the microphone didn't pick it
- 34:08up properly, but I just wanted to explain what
- 34:11that beat was when I was explaining in the actual
- 34:14episode about it being a beat, and I now know
- 34:16why that is, so I just wanted to explain that.
- 34:18OK, thank you for that, because I actually, when
- 34:22you said that, I was thinking, Hmm, it didn't
- 34:24sound like that at the time. So why does it sound
- 34:27like that on the recording? So that makes sense.
- 34:29So, thank you. I thought the whole evening was
- 34:32really eye -opening, really interesting, and
- 34:35I liked how level -headed it was. You said on
- 34:38The Evening Jewels that paranormal investigations
- 34:41are not like they are on TV. They're not like
- 34:45they are on Most Haunted. And in fact, you text
- 34:47me beforehand, and when you gave me the coordinates
- 34:50to follow, you said... be prepared for a really
- 34:53boring night. It might be that nothing happens,
- 34:56but it did. It was really subtle. It was subtle
- 35:01apart from, you know, music boxes going off every
- 35:04five minutes, but it was so interesting, so interesting.
- 35:08So just thank you so much for inviting me. You
- 35:10are so, so welcome. I have to also say that I
- 35:16was very impressed with you because this was
- 35:19your first investigation. And you just followed
- 35:23my lead. You were professional yourself. Huge
- 35:29thanks to you because it was an absolute pleasure
- 35:31to do that investigation with you. Oh, I'm glad.
- 35:34Thank you so much. If you want to do some Benedicts
- 35:37Abbey, I am well up for it. That'd be brilliant.
- 35:40OK, just a couple of questions just to wrap up
- 35:43then, Jules. Why? Why do you investigate? What
- 35:48is the purpose of this? Why do you do it? On
- 35:54a personal level, I would love to be able to
- 35:57find some tangible evidence. The very first experience
- 36:02I had was when I was a kid. I was in a pub. and
- 36:08you know back in the good old days where you're
- 36:10allowed to go in pubs as kids and what have you
- 36:12and I was sitting up on one of the bar stools
- 36:14swinging my legs and drinking my lemonade and
- 36:17I was having a lovely conversation with a man
- 36:21who was up the corner of the pub and my mum and
- 36:25dad were looking at me really strangely and they
- 36:27said who are you talking to and I said the man
- 36:30in the corner and I described him I described
- 36:33what he was wearing and what he looked like and
- 36:37the landlord sort of peered over the bar and
- 36:40he said oh yeah she's seeing old whatever his
- 36:42name was I can't remember his name now but he
- 36:44got a picture down from just above the bar and
- 36:46it was the old landlord and that was the picture
- 36:48of the man and so from a very early age I've
- 36:52had these experiences these encounters and I've
- 36:57just wanted to understand for the entirety of
- 37:00my life and so doing these investigations It
- 37:05started off me just wanting to know what happens
- 37:10to us. Why am I the person who can see these
- 37:13strange things, whereas other normal people can't?
- 37:19But then it's turned into so much more. It's
- 37:20now, well, how can I help? What can I do to make
- 37:24it better for some of these spirits that I have
- 37:27encountered? Because at the end of the day, every
- 37:30spirit we meet used to be a living, breathing
- 37:32person. some of them are good, some of them are
- 37:35bad, and some of them need help. And if I can
- 37:38help just a little bit in that way, then I feel
- 37:41I've done good stuff, I suppose. Wonderful. If
- 37:46somebody wanted to start their own investigation,
- 37:49how might they start? What advice might you give
- 37:52them? I think the first thing that I would hope
- 37:56they would do would be to go on other local groups
- 38:00investigations. don't just go out there with
- 38:04no experience whatsoever because at the end of
- 38:07the day you could be playing with things that
- 38:09maybe you don't understand. You can put yourself
- 38:12into situations which maybe you don't know then
- 38:15how to deal with it. I've been on investigations
- 38:18before where people have had attachments and
- 38:23through a huge amount of training that I've...
- 38:25gone into myself with Reiki and crystal healing
- 38:29and so on, spiritual healing and what have you.
- 38:32I am trained and I know how to deal with those
- 38:35situations, but if somebody wanted to do this
- 38:38on their own, go along first of all to a local
- 38:41group, do some public investigations, get a feel
- 38:45for the type of equipment that is out there and
- 38:47is being used so that you don't just spend an
- 38:50absolute fortune on all the nonsense that you
- 38:53can buy on eBay. People are very happy to sell
- 38:57you all sorts of stuff that is absolute nonsense
- 39:00but also by well hopefully by going out with
- 39:02your local group you'll also get a better understanding
- 39:05of what you're going to encounter physically
- 39:09because you have to keep yourself safe you know
- 39:13like be prepared for weather and make sure you've
- 39:16got really good torch and all this kind of stuff
- 39:18which you wouldn't necessarily know unless you
- 39:20had been on a public investigation. Thank you
- 39:25so much, Jules. Really appreciate your time this
- 39:27evening. And happy Christmas. It's that time
- 39:31of year. Well, it's Yule for me. I'm not a Christmas
- 39:35celebrator, but thank you very much for the well
- 39:37wishes. I was going to say, is it winter solstice?
- 39:39Is it Yule? I'd imagine it would be Yule for
- 39:42you. So yeah, happy Yule. I hope all of your
- 39:45listeners have an absolutely fantastic Christmas
- 39:48or Yule or whatever they celebrate to. Wonderful.
- 39:51Thank you so much, Yule. Thank you, thank you,
- 39:53thank you. You're very, very welcome. Ah, the
- 40:12wonderful, the marvelous Jools Bailey for you.
- 40:16I'm not sure there's much more I can add to that.
- 40:19Let's keep this short and sweet, shall we? Let
- 40:22me know what you think. If you have any thoughts,
- 40:25if you have any explanations as to what we experienced,
- 40:29as to what we heard, as to what we felt, I would
- 40:32really love to hear your explanation. Right,
- 40:35I'm going to wrap this up. Just a few things
- 40:37to touch upon before I love you and leave you.
- 40:40The first thing, pop along to my Instagram page,
- 40:42the .psychic .explorer. On there, I have posted
- 40:46some pictures from the evening of this paranormal
- 40:48investigation. At the time of recording, Jules
- 40:51has been unable to send me the video of the Ghost
- 40:54Tube app. Her phone really does not connect to
- 40:58any internet whatsoever, and it's difficult for
- 41:00her to actually transfer it over. So I'm going
- 41:03to try and ask her if she could take a video
- 41:05of the phone. It's going to be a bit rudimentary,
- 41:08but it should work. That is the moment of the
- 41:12investigation when I stood up and said I can
- 41:14feel something in front of me. Jules was recording
- 41:17on the Ghost Tube app and saying that, yes, there
- 41:19is a matchstick man in front of me. I'm going
- 41:21to try and get that uploaded for you because
- 41:24even I have not seen that video yet. The second
- 41:27thing, in two weeks' time, no, not even that,
- 41:30in a week and a half, there'll be the second
- 41:33full episode of this winter solstice season.
- 41:37That episode is going to be the ghost stories
- 41:40that you lovely listeners have sent in to me.
- 41:42They are not as scary as the stories that you
- 41:45sent in to me for the Halloween episode. These
- 41:48stories are much more subtle. These stories are
- 41:51more, I find them more comforting. So if you're
- 41:55not already, make sure you are subscribed and
- 41:57you tap that notification bell to make sure that
- 42:00episode goes straight into your podcast platform.
- 42:03Whichever one that might be that you're listening
- 42:04to my dulcet tones on. The third and final thing.
- 42:09Tonight, the day that I'm recording this is a
- 42:11full moon. I hope that this full moon brings
- 42:15you everything you need. Love, clarity, good
- 42:19energy. I hope that is in good stead for the
- 42:22manic festive season that may be lying ahead
- 42:26of you at this moment in time. Love you and leave
- 42:30you lovely, lovely explorers. I will see you
- 42:32next time. Take care. Bye.
