- 0:00Speaker 1: Okay, so time for a little Cypress recap.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Now.
- 0:06Speaker 1: We try and get to Cypress twice a year and
- 0:09Speaker 1: it's always such a fun time, you know, catching up
- 0:12Speaker 1: with old friends and always end up getting ropes into
- 0:15Speaker 1: doing something and so back now and I want to
- 0:18Speaker 1: say hello to some of my friends out there.
- 0:20Speaker 2: With a few sporty stories thrown in now.
- 0:23Speaker 1: The first weekend we were there, it was the Pathos
- 0:26Speaker 1: Path Run they call it. It's basically the same format
- 0:29Speaker 1: as the UK Park Run. My partner Sue decided to
- 0:33Speaker 1: run the five k undulating path from the castle along
- 0:37Speaker 1: the seafront and back and the weather was awful. It
- 0:40Speaker 1: was horrendous with rain and strong winds and all the
- 0:43Speaker 1: runners come back soaked.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Still. Afterwards, we all headed to.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Steve spar on the Harvard Seafront for some much needed
- 0:49Speaker 1: warming hot chocolate and a big thank you goes to
- 0:53Speaker 1: Pathos Running Club's cake maker extraordinariy Allan for providing some
- 0:58Speaker 1: awesome lemon cakes. You know, it's a great cake maker
- 1:00Speaker 1: and whenever there's a function you can guarantee that he's
- 1:03Speaker 1: there there's going to be some cakes involved.
- 1:05Speaker 2: So it'd be hello to the boss.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Sue Cawdrey, and I want to say well done to
- 1:10Speaker 1: what volunteers all in their ponchos. That's Helen, Greta, Chris
- 1:15Speaker 1: and many many more. Now, on the Friday, we joined
- 1:19Speaker 1: the walking section of the club for a six point
- 1:22Speaker 1: five k walk in the stunning hilly Cypress countryside.
- 1:25Speaker 2: See we saw views and places.
- 1:28Speaker 1: You know if we would have never found ourselves because
- 1:30Speaker 1: you joined this walking group and they take you off
- 1:33Speaker 1: the meet together. And I must just tell you a
- 1:36Speaker 1: story about Steve and Janet. Steve Steve kind of, we say,
- 1:42Speaker 1: prepared the walk and so they did a wreki of
- 1:45Speaker 1: a few days before and we left and we all
- 1:50Speaker 1: met at this cafe and we left and Steve says, yeah,
- 1:53Speaker 1: I know where I'm going. So we all got to
- 1:55Speaker 1: the meeting point, where was Steve nowhere to be seen.
- 2:01Speaker 1: So he missed the turney, which you can do quite
- 2:03Speaker 1: easily in these Cypress villages. And anyway, he turned up eventually,
- 2:07Speaker 1: and it was just we all have a chuckle though,
- 2:09Speaker 1: because he wrecked the route and you just missed the
- 2:12Speaker 1: turning for the start.
- 2:14Speaker 2: So we just give him a little bit stick about that.
- 2:16Speaker 1: But after the war, which is a pretty well, I
- 2:18Speaker 1: thought it was pretty tough actually, and we all got
- 2:21Speaker 1: back to the bar, the cafe where we were where
- 2:24Speaker 1: we were parked, and we had a beautiful fish and
- 2:27Speaker 1: chip lunch. Now there was about, i know, getting off
- 2:30Speaker 1: for twenty of us, I think. And it's a great
- 2:32Speaker 1: section of the club. That's it's got a cycling section,
- 2:36Speaker 1: it's got a ladies section, we've got the walking section,
- 2:39Speaker 1: all coming under the pathfors running club banner. Now, various
- 2:44Speaker 1: evenings out, you know, we got roped into a lot
- 2:46Speaker 1: of things. We attended an Elvis tribute night which was
- 2:50Speaker 1: it was actually an afternoon That's a good thing about
- 2:52Speaker 1: being a Cypress, you can you can sort of have
- 2:55Speaker 1: a good old session in the afternoon.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Now.
- 2:58Speaker 1: This was held at Darren's very popular Frog and Toad bar,
- 3:02Speaker 1: and we also went to a music quiz there where
- 3:05Speaker 1: Darren was actually the quiz master. And our team is
- 3:08Speaker 1: called the Stones. I'll tell you about that in a minute.
- 3:11Speaker 1: We started off well but we came last, but we
- 3:15Speaker 1: did win a big bag of switch between us. Our
- 3:17Speaker 1: team consisted of John and Jean Stone and ever since
- 3:20Speaker 1: they've entered the very first quiz in Cyprus, the team
- 3:23Speaker 1: has been called the Stones. So there was John and
- 3:26Speaker 1: Jean Dean O Bryant, myself and Sue and we did
- 3:29Speaker 1: start well, but it went downhill after that. Now, another
- 3:34Speaker 1: event we went to was with Andy and Jane to
- 3:36Speaker 1: the Agius, Georgia's Fish Festival, where they were given our
- 3:40Speaker 1: three portions of small, locally cool fish, very similar to Sprat's.
- 3:45Speaker 2: There was local music going on. I didn't understand a
- 3:48Speaker 2: word of it, but it was kind of the local
- 3:50Speaker 2: Cypriot type of music.
- 3:52Speaker 1: And there was a dance group and a lot of
- 3:55Speaker 1: the spectators were joining in, and I must say, well
- 3:59Speaker 1: done to She just got up and joined him with
- 4:01Speaker 1: all the rest, doing.
- 4:02Speaker 2: A or the Greek impression. She's really really good.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Anyway, this this song, this would take me back to
- 4:08Speaker 1: the afternoon in the Frog and Toad with the Elvis
- 4:12Speaker 1: tribute act.
- 4:13Speaker 2: He was very popular with what can I.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Say, the senior ladies, But one man out there really
- 4:19Speaker 1: is an Elvis fan. And this is for you, John,
- 4:21Speaker 1: This is Elvis Presley and return to center.
- 4:33Speaker 2: I gave a letter to the pollsman. He brought in
- 4:37Speaker 2: his sack. The next morning.
- 4:43Speaker 1: He brought my letter, Elvis Presley, and that's what John
- 4:58Speaker 1: and Jean Stone, and we have got a lovely picture
- 5:01Speaker 1: of if you like, four lady friends with the Elvis
- 5:06Speaker 1: Tribute act. And it's certainly one of them holiday snaps
- 5:09Speaker 1: that you like to dig out now and then and
- 5:12Speaker 1: embarrassed people. So carrying on with Cyprus, I mean the
- 5:16Speaker 1: highlight of our holiday is probably the Sue and Kevin
- 5:19Speaker 1: Pool party at Cassabella, which is the name of our
- 5:22Speaker 1: holiday villa. This is where Sue prepares a meal for
- 5:26Speaker 1: ten people. She served up two magnificent dishes, one of
- 5:30Speaker 1: lasagna and one of sausage casserole. And we invite our
- 5:34Speaker 1: closest friends to join us as Andy and Jane, David
- 5:37Speaker 1: and Anne, Brian and Dion, and John and Jeane. It's
- 5:41Speaker 1: a case of we provide the food, you provide the drink.
- 5:45Speaker 1: And after a few drinks at the Elvis night, it
- 5:48Speaker 1: was suggested that by Jane that I should write a
- 5:51Speaker 1: quiz and stage a quiz, so I quickly churned out
- 5:55Speaker 1: a music lyrics competition. Now, the quote of the afternoon
- 5:59Speaker 1: was from who kept shouting yep, I know this one,
- 6:02Speaker 1: I know this one. But unfortunately and her husband David
- 6:06Speaker 1: came last, and they won the wooden Spoon. Now the
- 6:10Speaker 1: sporting highlight of the holiday was me putting on a
- 6:13Speaker 1: race number for the first time in six years and
- 6:16Speaker 1: taking part in a three k road race. Now I
- 6:19Speaker 1: had to pack up running through injuries, dodgy knees that
- 6:22Speaker 1: came up, dodgy ankles, bad backs.
- 6:25Speaker 2: So I thought, should I do this? Anyway? I pucked
- 6:29Speaker 2: up courage and we entered the race.
- 6:33Speaker 1: So Ady and Jane picked us up at six point
- 6:35Speaker 1: fifteen one Sunday morning as we headed off to a
- 6:38Speaker 1: small Cypriot village called Paraclysia, where we met up with
- 6:42Speaker 1: several Plath Horse Running Club members, many of whom opted
- 6:45Speaker 1: for the longer options of ten and five k. Now,
- 6:48Speaker 1: Sue she had a great run. She won her age cattery,
- 6:51Speaker 1: the female vet over seventy in the five k, and
- 6:55Speaker 1: much to my surprise, I mean, there was the presentation.
- 7:00Speaker 1: That's the word. The presentation was awesome. As usual, the
- 7:04Speaker 1: mayor gets up, makes a speech of about fifteen minutes,
- 7:08Speaker 1: but all the kids were there. It was that the
- 7:10Speaker 1: headquarters was in a school and it was a real
- 7:12Speaker 1: community day, you know. There was loads and loads of
- 7:16Speaker 1: prizes and then they started reading out the male vet
- 7:19Speaker 1: over seventy prize and do you know what? Okay, third
- 7:24Speaker 1: there was a podium and got a trophy, got pictures done.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Oh god, it was really special, you know.
- 7:31Speaker 1: But I had to laugh later on when checking the
- 7:33Speaker 1: results there to find out there was only three in
- 7:36Speaker 1: my age category. People going, don't tell anyone, don't tell
- 7:39Speaker 1: anyone and take it. You got to take it anyway.
- 7:42Speaker 1: It was also nice to see friends of ours and
- 7:44Speaker 1: Mercedes as she's a friend of ours who we do
- 7:47Speaker 1: a little marshaling together. At the four Day Challenge, she
- 7:50Speaker 1: was second in the female vet over seventy age category.
- 7:53Speaker 1: She ran it with her partner Steve, who we will
- 7:56Speaker 1: catch up with in November. And that's another Cypress story
- 8:00Speaker 1: to tell you. Okay, So next up? Oh yeah, this
- 8:03Speaker 1: this one, now, this is for David. Now, David is
- 8:07Speaker 1: a Roy Orbison fan. So in the quiz I slipped
- 8:11Speaker 1: in a question about Roy Orbison with some lyrics, said
- 8:15Speaker 1: he got it wrong, but it was this one.
- 8:17Speaker 3: It's just for you, David, duly.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Holy holy Loly usual.
- 8:56Speaker 2: So that's for David.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Come on, David on them lyrics, gets singing in the kitchen,
- 9:02Speaker 1: put a couple of Roy orbitson tracks. When you're cooking
- 9:04Speaker 1: a dinner, just belt along to anything to do with
- 9:09Speaker 1: Roy Orbison. Now there's another song that came to mind.
- 9:16Speaker 1: It was during the lyrics quiz actually, and this is
- 9:18Speaker 1: for Anne.
- 9:19Speaker 2: And I know this one.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I know this one well, as I said, And it
- 9:22Speaker 1: was funny because they won the wooden spoon. And when
- 9:26Speaker 1: we were in this big supermarket in called Philippos, that's right,
- 9:31Speaker 1: and we bumped into Anne. But we were buying little
- 9:34Speaker 1: presents because we gave out little presents for the quiz,
- 9:37Speaker 1: and there was a wooden spoon in the trolley and
- 9:40Speaker 1: Anne looked in the in the in the trolley says, oh,
- 9:43Speaker 1: I've got a wooden spoon home you could borrow. So
- 9:46Speaker 1: we're trying to keep it quiet there. It was for
- 9:48Speaker 1: the prize at the quiz and she actually won it,
- 9:52Speaker 1: so she's got even an extra wooden spoon. Now, well,
- 9:55Speaker 1: I had one of the songs that Anne thought she
- 9:57Speaker 1: knew was this one. And see I know this one,
- 10:00Speaker 1: I know where this one. This is for you And
- 10:02Speaker 1: this is David Bowie and.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Space sort of tea.
- 10:05Speaker 1: It's got a very quiet introduction, so to spare with us.
- 10:11Speaker 1: He is playing, he's taking off. He's checking ignition. Here
- 10:20Speaker 1: he comes.
- 10:23Speaker 5: Hm hm.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Ground control to major time, Ground control to Major Time.
- 10:52Speaker 2: So that's David bowie Space sort of tea.
- 10:54Speaker 1: And like I said, it was a lyrics quiz and
- 10:57Speaker 1: the lyrics on this one that I read out, would
- 11:00Speaker 1: you have got it? I know we've heard the song
- 11:02Speaker 1: just now, but and the papers want to know whose
- 11:04Speaker 1: shirts you wear?
- 11:06Speaker 2: Was that was the tune? Sorry, that was the lyric
- 11:09Speaker 2: and it was from.
- 11:10Speaker 1: David Bowie's space od of tea and it just made
- 11:12Speaker 1: us chuckle.
- 11:13Speaker 2: And she's so excited. I know this one. I know
- 11:16Speaker 2: this one.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Anyway, we went to another quiz and which was the
- 11:19Speaker 1: music quiz down at the Frog and Toad, and I'm
- 11:22Speaker 1: just going to play this one actually for Diona Bryant.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Now they were there was a question I didn't know
- 11:28Speaker 1: the answer to, and you could see these two having
- 11:31Speaker 1: a little internal argument. Yes it was no, it wasn't,
- 11:33Speaker 1: Yes it was no, it wasn't. Now I can't remember
- 11:35Speaker 1: the song. One of them said it was the Specials
- 11:38Speaker 1: and one of them said it was fun Boy three.
- 11:41Speaker 2: And I do believe that Deon got it right.
- 11:45Speaker 1: So this is for you, Brian and Dan it's not
- 11:47Speaker 1: actually the Specials, but it's a fun Boy three song
- 11:51Speaker 1: which they got together with Banana Rama.
- 11:55Speaker 2: That's it. So I haven't heard this.
- 11:56Speaker 1: For ages and ages, so let's ever listen to this one.
- 11:59Speaker 1: This is really saying something. That's Banana Rama and fun
- 12:29Speaker 1: Boy through really saying something.
- 12:31Speaker 2: And that's for Dealon and Brian.
- 12:34Speaker 1: And we've got one more song to go. This is
- 12:35Speaker 1: for Andy and Jane. Now, we went to Cyprus a couple.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Of years ago and it.
- 12:42Speaker 1: We got dropped into a karaoke somewhere and Andy got
- 12:46Speaker 1: up and sung this song. Now, Andy is a chefll
- 12:48Speaker 1: Wednesday supporter and Cheffer Wednesday and English Eurovision Song Competition
- 12:55Speaker 1: entry have got something in common. They both ended up
- 12:59Speaker 1: with Neil Now. I think it was quite predictable for
- 13:03Speaker 1: both of them actually because Sheffer Wednesday were docked a
- 13:07Speaker 1: lot of points for administration errors and you've got feel
- 13:11Speaker 1: for the fans.
- 13:12Speaker 2: But this is the song, this is the runout song.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Actually Andy got up and sung this a couple of
- 13:17Speaker 1: years ago in karaoke, So this is for.
- 13:19Speaker 2: You Andy and Jane.
- 13:20Speaker 1: This is the song that Sheeffer Wednesday players run out
- 13:23Speaker 1: to on a Saturday afternoon, he would go, Jeff Beck
- 13:26Speaker 1: and high hose, silver.
- 13:27Speaker 5: Lining everywhere and nowhere, baby, that's where you're at.
- 13:54Speaker 2: So there we go.
- 13:54Speaker 1: That one for Andy and Jane out in Cyprus, and
- 13:59Speaker 1: we do have some great fun in Cypress. We do
- 14:00Speaker 1: look forward to our holidays out there, and we will
- 14:03Speaker 1: be returning in November. But we will be if you
- 14:06Speaker 1: like half working. Really, we're marshaling a running event. I'm
- 14:10Speaker 1: sure I've told you about it before, but so there'll
- 14:13Speaker 1: be another chapter in my Cypress Adventure to tell you
- 14:16Speaker 1: a bit later on in the year.
