- 0:29I Hate Talking: Welcome to episode 68 of I Hate Talking.
- 0:33I Hate Talking: Hi everyone.
- 0:33I Hate Talking: So we'll continue that particular bonus word that we had in our last episode, onomatopoeia.
- 0:40I Hate Talking: Nice.
- 0:40I Hate Talking: And I have been practicing the pronunciation, and I still have to think about it because the pronunciation, at least to me personally, doesn't exactly look like the word.
- 0:52I Hate Talking: And even more so when you look at the official pronunciation guide, so I just have to sort of not think about the letters.
- 0:59I Hate Talking: And just say on a mono Pia.
- 1:02I Hate Talking: OK.
- 1:02I Hate Talking: So we did get into a little bit of the definition of onomatopoeia last time where that describes a word that comes about because of the sound of whatever it's describing.
- 1:14I Hate Talking: So the particular examples that we gave last time was cuckoo or sizzle, where those particular sounds are made by those things, and that is how the word came about.
- 1:25I Hate Talking: Mhm.
- 1:26I Hate Talking: I guess we'll check the official definition from our favorite Oxford language dictionary to make sure that that adequately describes onomatopoeia.
- 1:36I Hate Talking: So, perhaps we already ran into the definition during our brief research last time because the Oxford Language Dictionary defines onomatopoeia as the formation of a word from a sound associated with what it is named.
- 1:54I Hate Talking: And it also notes that a relatively large number of bird names arise from onomatopoeia.
- 2:00I Hate Talking: And it also is used in some literary effects.
- 2:07I Hate Talking: So if somebody is describing a sound, they may coin a word or use a word that actually sounds like the thing that they are describing.
- 2:17I Hate Talking: In that particular literary work.
- 2:21I Hate Talking: Words that come to my mind are like ping, right?
- 2:24I Hate Talking: Like the thing pinged, like, you know what it means.
- 2:27I Hate Talking: I was like, ping, right?
- 2:29I Hate Talking: Yes.
- 2:30I Hate Talking: Or I'm trying to think of bird ones, obviously cuckoo cuckoo, but what else was there?
- 2:36I Hate Talking: So it doesn't give any specific examples, but let's see if we can find some other ones.
- 2:41I Hate Talking: Would splash be an onomatopoeia, kind of the sound it makes when it falls in the water.
- 2:47I Hate Talking: Perhaps the initial results that I get here for the birds is that a lot of bird calls, the words to describe that bird call or that sound that the bird makes are from onomatopoeia.
- 3:01I Hate Talking: So like call for crows, tweet for smaller birds, and hoot for owls are all from onomatopoia.
- 3:08I Hate Talking: OK, that makes more sense, yeah.
- 3:10I Hate Talking: Some other ones that of specifically the bird's name are Chickadee and Kill deer, a pee, a hooppo, a Bob White.
- 3:21I Hate Talking: So those are some particular words or names of birds.
- 3:25I Hate Talking: Bob White, what sound do they make?
- 3:28I Hate Talking: They apparently have a whistle that sounds like Bob White, so maybe we can find that and See if we can capture a Bob White call.
- 3:39I Hate Talking: That's funny.
- 3:39I Hate Talking: I want to hear that.
- 3:40I Hate Talking: So, a little bit of a stretch to say that the bird is saying Bob White, but I can now perhaps by hearing it ahead of time.
- 4:02I Hate Talking: The phrase Bob White sort of associated with that particular sound, but I don't know if I heard that sound by itself.
- 4:10I Hate Talking: I would think it was saying Bob White.
- 4:12I Hate Talking: Right.
- 4:12I Hate Talking: That's me too.
- 4:13I Hate Talking: I can hear it.
- 4:14I Hate Talking: I can force myself to be like, oh yeah, I hear it, but I would never have guessed that otherwise.
- 4:19I Hate Talking: So splash and ping, I guess we can do a quick research to see if either of those words are on a monopeia.
- 4:26I Hate Talking: OK.
- 4:26I Hate Talking: And then we'll get into the etymology of onomatopoeia, which is something that we did not do last time, since that was not the official word of the episode.
- 4:35I Hate Talking: So, according to Google, Splash is a onomatopoeia word, and that other similar words for water sounds like splish, splash, and plop are also from onomatopoeia.
- 4:52I Hate Talking: Here we go, nice.
- 4:53I Hate Talking: And I'm guessing that ping will be as well because I would assume that that came about from a radar ping where that is actually the sound that is made from the electronic devices that indicate that a radar has found something.
- 5:10I Hate Talking: And yes, according to Google again, Ping is another example of onomatopoeia, because it mimics the sound of the high pitched sharp ringing noise.
- 5:20I Hate Talking: When something on radar is found.
- 5:24I Hate Talking: OK, so I want to get to the etymology, but before I forget, is it the same in every culture for autoomonopoas?
- 5:33I Hate Talking: Like, with a different culture have the same word for peen or splash?
- 5:39I Hate Talking: Because you've heard like different cultures, sometimes they'll have different languages, will have different animal sounds.
- 5:46I Hate Talking: Yes, and that is what the internet once again says is going to be the most common cross-cultural instances of onomatopoeia is that things like a cat's meow or dogs bark, or the sound of a duck or pigs.
- 6:04I Hate Talking: Well, hold on a second.
- 6:05I Hate Talking: Cats meow and dogs bark are consistent.
- 6:08I Hate Talking: But ducks and pigs actually are not.
- 6:11I Hate Talking: OK, so what is an example from another language for a duck or a pig?
- 6:18I Hate Talking: So, in English, I think we're all familiar with the word quack for a duck, and oink for a pig.
- 6:27I Hate Talking: Some other languages here is for a duck, French coin.
- 6:34I Hate Talking: Japanese Gaga or Icelandic bra bra.
- 6:39I Hate Talking: So, those are some examples, and then for pig in German, grunts, Japanese, bouch, French, groin groin, and Latvianblux.
- 6:53I Hate Talking: Interesting.
- 6:54I Hate Talking: I wonder why that is.
- 6:57I Hate Talking: I don't know, in some of these examples here.
- 7:01I Hate Talking: I think actually the other languages probably are maybe even a little bit better, and I would even say that probably for.
- 7:08I Hate Talking: Some of the pig noises as well, perhaps, but like, for example, heartbeat in Japanese is doki doki.
- 7:16I Hate Talking: Doki Doki.
- 7:19I Hate Talking: Instead of like um um.
- 7:22I Hate Talking: Right.
- 7:23I Hate Talking: So, a lot of the summary information here attributes these differences because of the standard sounds that they use within their languages.
- 7:38I Hate Talking: So, for example, maybe these other languages don't have a QU ending in CK sound, so they would not even really use any type of that similar sound within their language.
- 7:53I Hate Talking: So.
- 7:54I Hate Talking: Quack would not really exist in.
- 7:58I Hate Talking: Any of those other languages and therefore not be used for animal sounds.
- 8:03I Hate Talking: OK, that makes sense.
- 8:05I Hate Talking: Now not noted here is that maybe the animals just make different sounds.
- 8:09I Hate Talking: They speak a different language.
- 8:11I Hate Talking: Yeah, there might be just ducks in Japan that don't quack.
- 8:14I Hate Talking: Maybe I don't know if uh Duck in America really quacks either though.
- 8:20I Hate Talking: I've heard some quacking sound, but again, maybe I'm predisposed to interpret that sound because that's what I've been taught is the sound noise and maybe if I did not have that.
- 8:33I Hate Talking: Preconception.
- 8:36I Hate Talking: Of quack that I would hear something else similar to.
- 8:40I Hate Talking: How perhaps we did not hear Bob White, but maybe.
- 8:44I Hate Talking: The person that found that particular species of quail.
- 8:49I Hate Talking: was named Mr.
- 8:51I Hate Talking: White, and his grandfather's name was Bob.
- 8:53I Hate Talking: Right.
- 8:54I Hate Talking: OK, and forgive me, cause obviously, I am not a talented voice actor, but as like a real life example, you always hear locally, like a rooster goes cock a doodleoo, but our roosters don't do that.
- 9:09I Hate Talking: It's almost the same up and down as that.
- 9:12I Hate Talking: But it's like more of like a.
- 9:14I Hate Talking: Uh, I'd say, right?
- 9:18I Hate Talking: Cause even like, I'll do that right there, that uh uh uh back to them, and they'll go back and forth with me.
- 9:24I Hate Talking: Yeah, that's true.
- 9:26I Hate Talking: So -- it's not a -- cock a doodle do.
- 9:28I Hate Talking: No, that's true.
- 9:30I Hate Talking: I think that even in some of these other languages and maybe as we were just alluding to for ducks that maybe quack is not the exact sound.
- 9:39I Hate Talking: But it's close enough and however it came about from the onomatopoeia development of the word was Good enough to explain because I mean in all intents and purposes, that is the purpose of communication is to impart some sort of information, knowledge or ideas to others.
- 10:01I Hate Talking: So if somebody was like ah ah ah and versus cock a doodle doo.
- 10:06I Hate Talking: That maybe that's more clear to say cocka do, even though it's not exactly representative of the noise that the animal makes.
- 10:15I Hate Talking: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 10:16I Hate Talking: There's a book, I'm gonna reread it again this year, because our kids are all about 2 years apart in grade level.
- 10:23I Hate Talking: So every 2 years, we do the same thing again with the following kid in school, and one of the books that our kid is going to read this year is Findle.
- 10:33I Hate Talking: And I remember our oldest one loving that book, so it'll be interesting to see what our second feels.
- 10:40I Hate Talking: They definitely have a different taste in literature, but File, that's the premise of it, is this kid in school decides that you can call anything, anything.
- 10:52I Hate Talking: Every word is made up.
- 10:54I Hate Talking: And so he starts calling the peninle.
- 10:57I Hate Talking: And uh he gets in trouble at school because he refuses to call it a pen or maybe it was a pencil, but, you know, writing equipment, and he gets in trouble and he has to do this whole thing about it, right?
- 11:08I Hate Talking: and convince everybody to call it a File instead.
- 11:11I Hate Talking: So it's kind of the same concept, right?
- 11:13I Hate Talking: Like somebody names it and we all just, that's what it is.
- 11:17I Hate Talking: I suppose so.
- 11:19I Hate Talking: I guess that fits right in with whatever generation is.
- 11:22I Hate Talking: What is the Gen alpha?
- 11:24I Hate Talking: Is that where we're on now?
- 11:25I Hate Talking: Uh, elementary kids or the ones being born right now.
- 11:28I Hate Talking: Yeah, I think it's alpha.
- 11:29I Hate Talking: With all their YouTube jargon.
- 11:31I Hate Talking: I said a word recently to a family member that was visiting.
- 11:37I Hate Talking: I said, sass, because again, that's just what all the elementary kids are saying.
- 11:41I Hate Talking: And it comes out occasionally, and she laughed, cause she doesn't have really kids that age, and she was like, I've never heard that used in real life.
- 11:51I Hate Talking: Like, oh.
- 11:52I Hate Talking: Well, I hang out with a lot of elementary kids.
- 11:56I Hate Talking: Indeed, so I think the takeaway there is that language does change and evolve and will have formation or evolution of words.
- 12:06I Hate Talking: As long as it continues to impart knowledge and ideas and information that those can be valid, but as that evolution and change happens or if it's just a brand new word or an existing word that is repurposed for a completely different definition, that the danger there is that if it's not commonly understood, it can lead to a lot of misunderstanding.
- 12:32I Hate Talking: Or no understanding at all.
- 12:34I Hate Talking: Yeah, like there's words nowadays that are used completely different than 60 years ago in books, and it can be confusing or almost even offensive reading those books now.
- 12:45I Hate Talking: Indeed.
- 12:47I Hate Talking: All right, back to the etymology of onomatopoeia, onomatopoeia, I would have guessed came from the Latin because of the ending with an IA, and it actually has four vowels at the end, O E I A.
- 13:04I Hate Talking: So I don't know if that's very common.
- 13:07I Hate Talking: It probably is, I guess in the old languages, but I was actually wrong.
- 13:12I Hate Talking: It comes from Greek.
- 13:13I Hate Talking: And it did flow through Latin before it came to English, so I guess I'm partially right.
- 13:19I Hate Talking: OK.
- 13:20I Hate Talking: But the root words are two Greek words that were combined.
- 13:27I Hate Talking: So, the anoma or onomat is the word for name.
- 13:35I Hate Talking: And that was combined with the word.
- 13:40I Hate Talking: Poin or pois, which means to make or making.
- 13:46I Hate Talking: So, when those are put together in the Greek, it would have been onomatopolia.
- 13:52I Hate Talking: Which literally means Name making or word making.
- 13:58I Hate Talking: And then that came into the Latin.
- 14:02I Hate Talking: And that is actually where it changed to the OEIA ending onomatopoeia.
- 14:09I Hate Talking: Oh, good job.
- 14:11I Hate Talking: You knew it then.
- 14:12I Hate Talking: That counts.
- 14:13I Hate Talking: I guess that counts, but it went through Latin.
- 14:17I Hate Talking: The actual original original was in Greek.
- 14:20I Hate Talking: So Nama, that makes sense.
- 14:21I Hate Talking: Yes, so onommana Pia literally means to make a name or put another way, word making.
- 14:30I Hate Talking: So, the way that words are made for, particularly on a monoia in the modern usage is from the sound.
- 14:39I Hate Talking: But I guess you could argue that any type of word making.
- 14:42I Hate Talking: Like if you are creating a new technology product and it combines two particular features and you call that device something that Is both of those things that.
- 14:55I Hate Talking: Quite literally, that would be me making automao Pia.
- 15:00I Hate Talking: The way that it's used in the modern vernacular is to specifically describe the words that are made from the sounds of the things that the word describes.
- 15:11I Hate Talking: OK, yeah.
- 15:12I Hate Talking: So, that is our word or phrase of the episode on a monoia that we alluded to last time, but now we've gotten into some more specific examples and definition, as well as the etymology.
- 15:28I Hate Talking: Cool, thank you.
- 15:29I Hate Talking: Well, we don't necessarily have a particular topic planned.
- 15:35I Hate Talking: So, you listeners can always suggest a topic for us to discuss.
- 15:40I Hate Talking: So if there's something that is in the current events or perhaps something that you have been thinking about, you can always send us a text message on the link in the description or send us an email or leave a comment.
- 15:52I Hate Talking: But I guess we just have to talk about what everybody's talking about.
- 15:56I Hate Talking: Is it about the viral TikTok video?
- 16:00I Hate Talking: The viral Coldplay TikTok video.
- 16:02I Hate Talking: It is crazy how much it's blowing up everything.
- 16:08I Hate Talking: And it's also, OK, super sad.
- 16:11I Hate Talking: I want to talk about it, cause I think the memes, all that are so funny.
- 16:15I Hate Talking: But first, you do have to preface this are real people's lives.
- 16:18I Hate Talking: There's real people that are hurt by this.
- 16:21I Hate Talking: I don't necessarily feel bad for the couple that got caught.
- 16:24I Hate Talking: But they have children, both of them, and they have spouses, so this is really sad for them.
- 16:30I Hate Talking: I guess maybe.
- 16:33I Hate Talking: I don't, I don't particularly know them.
- 16:35I Hate Talking: So maybe the kids hate the dad and they're like, finally a reason that he's gonna leave and this actually could be a good thing.
- 16:40I Hate Talking: There is a meme.
- 16:41I Hate Talking: Did you see it where it's the kids with the mom and they're like, how did we get so rich?
- 16:45I Hate Talking: And she's like, Well, your dad went to a concert with HR.
- 16:48I Hate Talking: And so, yeah, I guess if they don't like him, they're gonna get a lot of money out of this.
- 16:52I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 16:53I Hate Talking: And I'm sure perhaps maybe the person that took part in these actions or both of them are saddened by the loss of their Income generation methods because it seems like I think they've both been let go or quote unquote resigned, but You know, again, maybe they're happier now that they don't have to be in secret.
- 17:18I Hate Talking: Who knows?
- 17:18I Hate Talking: We don't really know.
- 17:19I Hate Talking: Yeah.
- 17:20I Hate Talking: So you think they're still together?
- 17:22I Hate Talking: I just assumed they weren't.
- 17:23I Hate Talking: We have no idea.
- 17:24I Hate Talking: -- You think it's true love in there -- we should back up for our listeners that have no idea what we're talking about, because maybe they have not seen all the viral posts about this particular thing because I personally did not until you brought it up and actually other people at work brought it up, but I think left to my own feed and news threads, I may not have seen this.
- 17:48I Hate Talking: Wow, my algorithm.
- 17:50I Hate Talking: Needed me to see this.
- 17:52I Hate Talking: I could not avoid it to save my life.
- 17:54I Hate Talking: All right, so since I'm the less informed in this particular scenario, I'll give my perspective on the events that transpired, and you can fill in the gaps.
- 18:04I Hate Talking: So essentially there was a Coldplay concert that took place somewhere.
- 18:12I Hate Talking: -- I have no idea -- where Minnesota, I think, OK.
- 18:14I Hate Talking: And I waiting to fill in we can back and forth this and at that particular concert, I guess they had their version of the Kiss cam, which is something that would typically be done at sporting events where during a break in the action at like a baseball game or something, they will have the camera operators search for supposed couples and have the little frame on the jumbotron that has Kiss cam or whatever and They capture those particular public displays of affection of those couples.
- 18:47I Hate Talking: So Coldplay, likewise, did this at their concert, which is a sort of a strange thing to do at a concert as an aside, in my own personal opinion, because if I went to a concert, I would go for the express purpose of the music, not to see anything about the lives or interactions of people in the audience.
- 19:08I Hate Talking: So.
- 19:09I Hate Talking: I guess it may be fun in the moment, but I don't know if I would particularly enjoy that experience because I just want them to play some songs and not take a break in the music and Use the camera to pan over the audience.
- 19:21I Hate Talking: I don't know, I disagree.
- 19:23I Hate Talking: -- Because if he's just playing his piano and -- singing like concerts, yeah, but like you just watch him play the piano or you can look at what other people are doing.
- 19:33I Hate Talking: Yeah.
- 19:34I Hate Talking: So if it was one or the other though, if you could go to an event and listen to, say, 40 minutes of music straight, or you could go to an event where say 10,000 people are gathered and there's 40 minutes of just basically people watching.
- 19:56I Hate Talking: I think he was still playing though.
- 19:58I Hate Talking: He wasn't not playing.
- 19:59I Hate Talking: OK, -- so this was sort of a side attraction that I -- think the screen to straight on Coldplay is doing some more emotional relationship type songs that this would be sort of like a love song type experience and that's why they're doing it.
- 20:14I Hate Talking: Yeah, the music was definitely playing while it was happening.
- 20:19I Hate Talking: But the artist.
- 20:20I Hate Talking: You immediately commented on it.
- 20:22I Hate Talking: Yeah, OK, so another detail then to explain the story as it continues is that they're doing this kisscam thing apparently during the music, but as they pan to this particular couple, there's a gentleman that is standing behind a woman and he has his arms fully embracing her, and when the camera pans to them or turns to them.
- 20:44I Hate Talking: That he immediately releases her, basically turns away and drops to the floor.
- 20:50I Hate Talking: And then she's covering her mouth and is very seemingly anxious or flabbergasted and doesn't drop to the floor, but does sort of turn the other direction from where the man went and turns her back to the camera.
- 21:05I Hate Talking: Yeah.
- 21:05I Hate Talking: And then immediately upon that, the artist or one of the artists within Coldplay immediately makes a comment on this.
- 21:15I Hate Talking: And I think he said something to the effect of, well, they're either having affair or something.
- 21:22I Hate Talking: Yeah.
- 21:22I Hate Talking: So, the clip shows them and pans to them, and again, kudos to them, if you're looking, they look like a very sweet middle-aged couple.
- 21:32I Hate Talking: I've seen memes that are like, well, at least he's dating someone his own age versus someone 20 years younger, so, good for him.
- 21:40I Hate Talking: They actually look really cute together.
- 21:42I Hate Talking: They're just kind of swaying to the music, cuddling.
- 21:44I Hate Talking: And the guy's like, oh look, At that couple, and then, yeah, like you said, they realize they're on the camera, he drops to the floor, she turns her back, so you can't see her.
- 21:55I Hate Talking: And so he responds with either they're having an affair or they're just really camera shy.
- 22:01I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 22:02I Hate Talking: Yes, that was the other side of the phrase that I was looking for as a punchline.
- 22:06I Hate Talking: -- And get a job -- for him being that quick-witted to realize what was happening.
- 22:12I Hate Talking: Yes, and perhaps that's why I thought that this was not part of the concert itself because it seemed like it was more of a shared experience, but Yeah, I guess if he's that quick-witted and sort of just was able to make that comment and keep on playing or whatever the case may be, so.
- 22:28I Hate Talking: And the thing I've seen so many times, people saying, had they not reacted that way, had they just played it off, then it would have probably moved on.
- 22:39I Hate Talking: I doubt anyone would have ever noticed it.
- 22:41I Hate Talking: But because of their drastic reaction, people instantly started searching their faces and trying to find out who these people were.
- 22:49I Hate Talking: Anyone else that was on that his cam?
- 22:52I Hate Talking: I don't know if anyone else googled any of them.
- 22:54I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 22:56I Hate Talking: Unless this was like broadcast live and maybe there was some event or something and their significant others -- were watching it or something -- like they like you go to concerts quite often and I love you.
- 23:09I Hate Talking: But I wouldn't stay up late watching the camera, you know what I mean, to watch and see if I could see you on the camera.
- 23:19I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 23:20I Hate Talking: No, I don't, I don't think they were doing that, but maybe they were.
- 23:23I Hate Talking: So I think you are correct then that probably if they had just played along, as it were, that this would have never received any attention.
- 23:35I Hate Talking: And even if it did receive attention, it would have been from that theorized person that I'm talking about that was watching at home and it would have still been a relatively personal matter, right?
- 23:47I Hate Talking: So I guess it later comes out, like you said, people are searching for all this information about who these people are that acted so abruptly, and it comes out that one is a senior leader, I guess the CEO of a particular company, and the woman was at first, I think he said CFO, but I guess it was later revealed that it was the HR -- head of HR -- head of HR, yeah, recently new and all that like.
- 24:17I Hate Talking: Right, like handpicked by the CEO and things of that nature, so.
- 24:21I Hate Talking: And that's also maybe why I think that it's true love, that so you're, you're happy for them.
- 24:28I Hate Talking: This is a great story.
- 24:29I Hate Talking: This is your takeaway, that this is a love story for the ages.
- 24:35I Hate Talking: I'm just adding another perspective that while it might appear messy from the outside and I'm sure it is that perhaps they will be happy together.
- 24:49I Hate Talking: I mean, it's a bit of sonder, right?
- 24:51I Hate Talking: They can have their own personal experiences and.
- 24:53I Hate Talking: This might have been the impetus for.
- 24:56I Hate Talking: Doing their own thing together.
- 24:59I Hate Talking: And the reason again, I'm citing this so on the wrong side of this.
- 25:07I Hate Talking: The reason that I'm citing this is because that, as you said, she's not particularly younger and there was some sort of relationship that was already in existence prior to meeting at the company because he brought her in and basically hand selected her for this particular position.
- 25:26I Hate Talking: And it seems like the relationship was probably quite long existing.
- 25:32I Hate Talking: Alright, I'm gonna go check on the kids real quick, and we're gonna pause the recording and you're gonna think about your answer and change it when I get back, as my husband, who's also middle-aged, who loves to go to concerts too, without me.
- 25:46I Hate Talking: So, you work on that answer, I'll be back.
- 25:48I Hate Talking: OK, what's the onomatopoeia for a rewind?
- 25:52I Hate Talking: I can't OK.
- 25:55I Hate Talking: All right.
- 25:57I Hate Talking: So I do it again.
- 25:58I Hate Talking: I How do you feel about the situation, Adam?
- 26:04I Hate Talking: So, after that brief break, you're back and while I am definitively against the actions that these two people took because they acted in a way that was unbecoming of married people and as you said, most likely hurt people, their spouses, their kids, their company that I am also.
- 26:29I Hate Talking: Considering the fact that they may have.
- 26:33I Hate Talking: Different ideas about the situation.
- 26:36I Hate Talking: That we have no clue about.
- 26:39I Hate Talking: So, my point is not that I am in favor of infidelity or in any way am condoning their actions.
- 26:50I Hate Talking: I'm simply stating the fact that.
- 26:53I Hate Talking: You described the situation in such a way that everybody ended up worse off that.
- 27:01I Hate Talking: That's probably true, but maybe not.
- 27:03I Hate Talking: Entirely true.
- 27:05I Hate Talking: Or has some probability of being untrue.
- 27:10I Hate Talking: So that was my singular point that I was making much earlier in the episode, is that the outcome actually could be beneficial and desirable for many different parties involved.
- 27:22I Hate Talking: Right, but he should have the integrity to end the marriage in such versus sneaking around.
- 27:29I Hate Talking: Or just stay committed to the marriage, yes.
- 27:32I Hate Talking: Yeah, yeah, that would be better.
- 27:34I Hate Talking: Right, so a good clarification that I think I can make is that I'm not condoning their actions.
- 27:43I Hate Talking: I probably also would land on the side that this is a detrimental event for all or most of the parties involved, but there is the slight probability that the outcome is actually perhaps favorable to some people.
- 28:01I Hate Talking: OK.
- 28:02I Hate Talking: So, yeah, I mean, that's fine.
- 28:04I Hate Talking: I do not have any sympathy for them because I strongly believe in the sanctity of marriage, and if it was this true love that you're describing, you should have had the integrity to Do something about it instead of sneaking around.
- 28:23I Hate Talking: Or I think it's come out that she is married, she has children herself.
- 28:27I Hate Talking: But and from your point, you're like, what if they're polygamists, right?
- 28:30I Hate Talking: Like, maybe this isn't a controversy.
- 28:34I Hate Talking: Maybe his wife was OK with it, because there are polygamists in the world, and From the TV show Big Love, and how they couldn't take out the other spouse because the world knew he had a different spouse, but I don't think that's what this was.
- 28:53I Hate Talking: Well there you go.
- 28:54I Hate Talking: Maybe that's the case.
- 28:55I Hate Talking: Have you seen any information or photos of the husband of the woman involved?
- 29:01I Hate Talking: Yeah, I've seen a couple.
- 29:02I Hate Talking: And people have shared his LinkedIn.
- 29:04I Hate Talking: LinkedIn doesn't have a picture on him, but he does have a lot of connections.
- 29:08I Hate Talking: He's a CEO himself of a different company.
- 29:12I Hate Talking: Well, there you go.
- 29:13I Hate Talking: Not as big or popular, but, well, maybe he'll get the CEO position of astronomer and then he'll be happy.
- 29:20I Hate Talking: There you go, or at least have the money.
- 29:22I Hate Talking: But even for that, I would have more respect for someone who is a polygamist, in that kind of situation.
- 29:28I Hate Talking: Because theoretically, it would be consenting adults that are all the wife would know about the other wives and consent to it.
- 29:38I Hate Talking: In an ideal situation, I know that there's a lot of abuse in that world.
- 29:41I Hate Talking: So I'd have more respect over that versus a couple that sneak off and their spouses are at home taking care of the children and not knowing what the other spouse is doing.
- 29:53I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 29:54I Hate Talking: But it is super funny, right?
- 29:57I Hate Talking: There are so many memes and Coldplay sent out like a tweet that was really funny.
- 30:02I Hate Talking: That was like, as of the next show, we will have camera-free areas for you and your side piece and things like that, you know, so they're definitely leaning into it and the memes are strong.
- 30:14I Hate Talking: But my question is, from that perspective, it's super interesting and funny, but why are we all talking about this?
- 30:22I Hate Talking: People cheat all the time, right?
- 30:24I Hate Talking: Yeah, I don't know why we're talking about this.
- 30:26I Hate Talking: I mean, I guess the reason that we're talking about it on this podcast is because it did go viral, so to speak, and I don't really know why that is, you know, maybe it's the Epstein files or just the AI that I thought this would be interesting to humanity, or maybe I just did gain some.
- 30:50I Hate Talking: Actual traction naturally and.
- 30:53I Hate Talking: Then became something that the entire world is apparently talking about.
- 30:58I Hate Talking: Yeah, I don't know.
- 31:00I Hate Talking: So you think it's a whole conspiracy planned to hide the Epstein files?
- 31:06I Hate Talking: I did see a meme like that where the CEO called Donald Trump and was like, hey, those Epstein files are pretty uh red hot right now.
- 31:16I Hate Talking: How are you feeling about it?
- 31:18I Hate Talking: And Donald Trump goes, well, it'll be OK.
- 31:20I Hate Talking: It'll work out in the end.
- 31:21I Hate Talking: And the CEO's like, OK, well, if you say so, and then Donald Trump says, enjoy that Coldplay concert.
- 31:28I Hate Talking: And the guy's like, oh yeah, I'm sure I will.
- 31:32I Hate Talking: And hopefully those Epstein files won't uh be such a big news story, and Donald Trump's like, yes, I'm sure they won't be.
- 31:41I Hate Talking: So Donald Trump sent it, huh?
- 31:44I Hate Talking: OK.
- 31:45I Hate Talking: Here's the second question real quick as we're wrapping up.
- 31:48I Hate Talking: What about the person aside?
- 31:51I Hate Talking: Have you heard all the controversy about the other female in the picture?
- 31:54I Hate Talking: I have seen some headlines about that or just some tidbits that apparently they were aware.
- 32:03I Hate Talking: Of these people, the CEO and the head of HR that perhaps they knew each other or something to that effect.
- 32:11I Hate Talking: Yeah, so it goes back and forth, initially, Internet sleuths also said she was part of the same company and worked for that department, so they were like, oh, they brought her and she's like the decoy or whatnot.
- 32:24I Hate Talking: And because in the photo, she's laughing so hard and her face is bright red.
- 32:29I Hate Talking: They're like, see, she's just so happy that she doesn't have to hide the secret anymore and stuff like that.
- 32:35I Hate Talking: And that could be true.
- 32:36I Hate Talking: And then other people are doing like AI comparisons and saying, no, it's not the same person.
- 32:41I Hate Talking: Her nose is slightly different, but the angle is different from the photos.
- 32:44I Hate Talking: So I'm not good at that kind of thing.
- 32:47I Hate Talking: But one, my face would turn bright red if I was a bystander, because I'd be on the big jumbotron with everybody looking at me and laughing.
- 32:57I Hate Talking: I also feel bad for Whoever it is, especially if she isn't involved, that was named from that company, because her name was doxed all over also, and she'll forever be connected with this controversy, whether she was really in it or not.
- 33:15I Hate Talking: Yes, that's similar to what I had seen, a lot more details there, but again, No particular conclusions on my end.
- 33:25I Hate Talking: And we may never know.
- 33:28I Hate Talking: So the takeaway from this is that it's this beautiful love story that you're so happy for the couple, you're gonna send them a gift, wedding gift in the mail.
- 33:39I Hate Talking: No.
- 33:40I Hate Talking: Are you gonna start going to Coldplay concerts?
- 33:44I Hate Talking: I don't mind Coldplay, but if they had a concert, I would choose another concert over them.
- 33:50I Hate Talking: OK, time's over.
- 33:52I Hate Talking: Why also, I don't know music very well.
- 33:54I Hate Talking: But why are people mocking them?
- 33:58I Hate Talking: Like, I wouldn't even be able to tell you Cole puts on until they play their music, and I know all the all those music.
- 34:04I Hate Talking: Is it just cause they're just so overplayed so long ago?
- 34:09I Hate Talking: Because we definitely all know those songs.
- 34:12I Hate Talking: Well, we are getting along on time, but maybe for the last thing that we can do is we can look at when Coldplay was formed.
- 34:21I Hate Talking: And see how that compares to our age versus a band that was formed when our parents were the same age.
- 34:30I Hate Talking: OK, let's do that.
- 34:31I Hate Talking: Also, while you're doing that, Probably my favorite meme that I've seen from all this, says Coldplay hasn't made a single in years, but tonight they made 2.
- 34:43I Hate Talking: Get it made two single people.
- 34:47I Hate Talking: So, Coldplay was formed in 1996.
- 34:54I Hate Talking: So that would have been 29 years ago.
- 34:58I Hate Talking: OK.
- 34:58I Hate Talking: So now we'll do some math and figure out what band came out or formed.
- 35:06I Hate Talking: -- At our parents' age -- when they were around, OK.
- 35:10I Hate Talking: Right, I was at our age.
- 35:13I Hate Talking: I caught ourselves.
- 35:15I Hate Talking: Are you glad I caught it?
- 35:16I Hate Talking: Yes, even though everybody knows that I have a big birthday coming up.
- 35:20I Hate Talking: -- You -- do.
- 35:21I Hate Talking: That's exciting.
- 35:22I Hate Talking: But they don't know what big birthday.
- 35:25I Hate Talking: You look great for 60.
- 35:26I Hate Talking: OK.
- 35:27I Hate Talking: OK, so we did some math in the background.
- 35:31I Hate Talking: So just to explain what we did, we took that 29 year gap.
- 35:35I Hate Talking: -- You're -- gonna tell how -- old -- we are then.
- 35:37I Hate Talking: No, I'm not.
- 35:38I Hate Talking: OK, I'm just gonna explain the function of the math.
- 35:41I Hate Talking: So we took that 29.
- 35:43I Hate Talking: Your gap from present day back to when Coldplay was formed.
- 35:48I Hate Talking: Then we took my current age.
- 35:51I Hate Talking: And then Took my dad's current age, added my current age, and subtracted the 29 years to determine.
- 36:02I Hate Talking: What band would have been formed when he was my age.
- 36:06I Hate Talking: OK, so internet sluice could definitely figure out our age based on that.
- 36:12I Hate Talking: But if they do that much math, they deserve to know.
- 36:15I Hate Talking: That's true, I guess as soon as I say the band's name, you could reverse engineer this but.
- 36:20I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 36:21I Hate Talking: Internet, do your thing.
- 36:23I Hate Talking: So.
- 36:24I Hate Talking: The animals and the yardbirds were formed in 1963.
- 36:29I Hate Talking: I don't know the yardbirds.
- 36:30I Hate Talking: I know the animals though.
- 36:31I Hate Talking: I don't know if I do.
- 36:32I Hate Talking: Now there are some very iconic bands as well that formed in 1963, so I guess 1963 was a big year for music.
- 36:40I Hate Talking: The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys, the Kingsmen, and The Who were formed in 1963.
- 36:48I Hate Talking: I was going to guess The Beatles, -- I promise -- you.
- 36:50I Hate Talking: I believe that you were going to guess that.
- 36:52I Hate Talking: Oh man, I should have said it faster.
- 36:55I Hate Talking: So they actually had been together before that, but 1963 is when they released their first official album.
- 37:01I Hate Talking: I would have thought it was, yeah, early 60s, so that's would have been my guess.
- 37:05I Hate Talking: I saw the Beach Boys one time too.
- 37:08I Hate Talking: It wasn't all the originals, obviously, but I went with my dad.
- 37:12I Hate Talking: It was such a good concert.
- 37:13I Hate Talking: Yes.
- 37:15I Hate Talking: So, to a kid that, or just a younger person in general, that is like Coldplay, who's that?
- 37:23I Hate Talking: That would be like saying to a kid of these days or a young person of these days at that particular time that the animals are so cool.
- 37:33I Hate Talking: So, I mean, it would be theoretically like, I went when I was a kid to a Beach Boys concert, and I definitely enjoyed it.
- 37:41I Hate Talking: But it's kind of like Somebody getting caught at a Beach Boys concert, like, oh, you're, that's ridiculous.
- 37:49I Hate Talking: OK, the Animals did the House of the Rising Sun.
- 37:51I Hate Talking: I know some of these songs, yes, a lot of these I do not know, but House of the Rising Sun is probably the only song that I know about them, which is also the top listed song that they would be known for.
- 38:02I Hate Talking: Right.
- 38:03I Hate Talking: So, I think it's one of those things, right?
- 38:05I Hate Talking: Like, you know their songs, like we could list Beatles and Beach Boys songs, but it wouldn't be quote unquote, like, Cool music.
- 38:15I Hate Talking: Correct.
- 38:16I Hate Talking: Is that the theme?
- 38:18I Hate Talking: His coldplay's always been around as far as we are aware.
- 38:21I Hate Talking: They started playing music.
- 38:22I Hate Talking: I mean, I wasn't aware of music before that age.
- 38:24I Hate Talking: Um, yeah.
- 38:27I Hate Talking: My parents chose all my music, yeah, yeah.
- 38:30I Hate Talking: And now they're still around, but to modern music and Everything that's popular, they're sort of quote unquote old oldies.
- 38:42I Hate Talking: We have a radio station we listen to at our local pool, and it's called the Oldies, but they don't call it the oldies.
- 38:49I Hate Talking: They call it the, what is it?
- 38:50I Hate Talking: That's what they call, they call it the mix, but essentially it is oldies.
- 38:54I Hate Talking: All the stuff that we listened to when we were kids.
- 38:57I Hate Talking: Well, there you go.
- 38:58I Hate Talking: Perhaps that will be our word or phrase of next time is oldies, but I think we're at a good point to wrap up this episode.
- 39:06I Hate Talking: So, from your friends at IH Talking, until next time, remember, it is only through talking that we begin the journey to understanding.
