- 0:00Yeah, okay, calm well, I'm the league guitarist, guitarists, vocals
- 0:37were on and on, the bass player Sam Phillips on drums, and we
- 0:41are chaos fear beautiful guys, thanks for joining us this evening, Thanks for
- 0:48having us my pleasure. So Chao Sphere will unleash your debut full length in
- 0:52Scars we Trust on Friday, May the third. Guys like, not far
- 0:56away? Now, how you feeling He's nervous, ganxious, excited, couldn't
- 1:00give a fuck. How you feeling relieved? Looking forward to it? It's
- 1:08been a lot of hard work gone into it and it's time to chill back
- 1:14and actually, you know, get the sort of see the fruits of our
- 1:17labor. I guess m hm. Been over two years in the making,
- 1:22so yeah, a lot of build up and a lot of work. Yeah,
- 1:26and so far you've released the singles chain Breaker, war Right, and
- 1:29may I. So would you say those three are a good sonic representation of
- 1:33what to expect sort of these There's still a lot of groovy tracks on the
- 1:41album, and they all have their differences. I mean, obviously our flavor
- 1:49is still there and ingrained in it, but there is a lot of difference
- 1:53in some of those songs. Yeah, Yeah, I think that's mainly because
- 1:59we actually the whole tie obment itself as a whole pile of singles. Okay,
- 2:05So we basically went into the studio, would write and record one song
- 2:08over a month or over two months, and then finish that, go to
- 2:13a new one, and we just worked our way through it like that and
- 2:15occasionally went back and actually we actually re recorded a couple of the songs,
- 2:20were actually spruced them up, but more deffinitely tell us a bit more about
- 2:27the album from a musical point of view, and what are you were going
- 2:29for with it? Then? Uh, we didn't actually have a specific goal
- 2:35at the time. We just kind of write what we felt, what we
- 2:37kind of vibed at the time, and you know, we'd get some music
- 2:42and then would shout to Ricky and we see what sort of vibe he got
- 2:44from it, and then he'd kind of, you know, write out the
- 2:46lyrics based on the feelings that came from that song, you know, the
- 2:51vibe that was created from that song. Basically, I went through and I
- 2:54find a book. That's the first thing I searched for. I found a
- 2:59whole and then our face. I think more more than in the past,
- 3:06we've got a big, wide range of genres, and that the songs have
- 3:09a big amount of varying dynas dynamicism that's not even a word. So the
- 3:20thrash thrash bits as death beats, there's new metal bits as groove metal bits.
- 3:24It's the songs generally have you know, catchy hook choruses and then they
- 3:29go back into bed punching and then they put forward. But we have a
- 3:31lot of different influences, you know, listen to a lot of different styles,
- 3:37and that's why we're kind of really hard to define what genre we even
- 3:39play because we don't even know just heavy whatever week on a film so prepared
- 3:47that have been with the band since the beginning that guys like, how how
- 3:51would you say that in Scars we trust differs musically to your debut EP Forsaken
- 3:54Shadows. Oh a lot more timeless sme on it. Yeah. Production we
- 4:03learned a lot in the studio and as we built these songs in the studio,
- 4:11so we actually got time to learn what sounds, all these different sounds
- 4:16and frequencies, how they actually work. Whereas with the Saken Shadows. We
- 4:23sort of built that in a garage and then went in there and punched it
- 4:26out over a weekend, you know what I mean. So very different kind
- 4:30of a working which led to more complex arrangements. The songs are now more
- 4:38complex. Like we said, we've been back several times too. We just
- 4:42re recorded and we did a few parts in a few places as well.
- 4:45So there was a thing of having actually more time. I think we've spent
- 4:49a lot more time doing this thing we did the previous previous albums, so
- 4:53we could put a lot more into it, emphasis into it this time.
- 4:56Yeah, I suppose the big question is well, old fan to the band
- 5:00still like the new material. I think so. Yeah, I can't see
- 5:05what they won't. Still follows the same sort of hockey. Yeah, it's
- 5:12still that we do. It's still chaos. Yeah, it's always. I
- 5:15think it doesn't matter. Even if we tried to copy someone's music, it
- 5:20would still sound like chaos. We've eve even tried that in the past,
- 5:26to copy someone's like say a genre Middlepor or something like that, and we
- 5:30think we're playing Medlepors and then we play it and it's like a man,
- 5:33it's just because there's a bit of a deck medal in there, there's a
- 5:42middle gul and you know, all the different genres that seemed to just come
- 5:44out at the same time. Now, Ricky, you've experimented with some clean
- 5:50vocals as well on this one, like why is now the right time to
- 5:55introduce that element to chaosphs music? In my previous life for my old band
- 6:00Esophagus, which obviously started in New Zealand, that band started with cleans.
- 6:12It was very based on nineties music and it had cleaned all through it,
- 6:17and as we started chaos Fare, it was sort of like a heavier project.
- 6:21So I never really brought them out many times, but it's always been
- 6:27there and some of the feelings and grooves we got over the songs. As
- 6:32we were making these songs, they sort of felt like it they needed it,
- 6:35you know. So I was still you know, myself and worrying about
- 6:45how they're going to sound and what other vocalist will thing because whatever. But
- 6:48in the end it's like, yeah, all right, it still sounds good
- 6:55to me. You guys have been playing a few shows lately, so you've
- 7:02had a chance to road chest the new songs, like how's like from stage,
- 7:06how does it look out in the crowd, Like, does it look
- 7:09like people getting into them? Well, do you reckon put it back on
- 7:17me? I haven't had I haven't the lights. I haven't heard anyone complain
- 7:26about And from my point of view there they sort of you're right what you
- 7:30said before, Like it seems like you've you've lived with these songs a bit
- 7:33longer, so he's a more comfortable playing them. And it's because of that
- 7:38alone, Like it comes through when you're playing it live, like people can
- 7:41see that you're more invested in this music and they can hear it as well.
- 7:45Yeah. Yeah, Well we've had good feedback so far from the from
- 7:47the ones we've actually played, pretty good feedback so far. I think it's
- 7:53just it's fine with our music, given our old music thin and and that's
- 8:03kind of something as good as music, you know, like if you listen
- 8:07to it and then listen to it two years later and you still enjoy it.
- 8:09Yeah. Yeah, that's the people moshing out at the shows, you
- 8:20know, from back on the drums, I like to see people moving and
- 8:22going crazy and giving the energy back. And I think we're putting it out
- 8:26there and people are jumping around. Yeah, very cool now. As well
- 8:31as releasing The Scars We Trust on Friday, you're also dropping a new single
- 8:35and music video for Bringing Out the Dad. So tell us more about that
- 8:37song. Well, it's pretty much Ricky's lyrics were written to that one pretty
- 8:46much. How that's one started as we actually got a creepy little track,
- 8:50like a sample and it's creepy little like tones and like almost sounds like circusy
- 9:01sort of things, and it would be and then we just when we wrote
- 9:03it, you know, I was just like feeling the vibe of kind of
- 9:09like that kind of dark sort of song and but creepy as well like that,
- 9:16you know. Yeah, basically basically wrote the lyric about pretty much being
- 9:20did inside and the video as well, pretty good all those new metal influencers,
- 9:28you know, that creepy twisted using some unusual sounds. Mhm mm hmm.
- 9:35And you mentioned a video too, like it's fucking awesome, and then
- 9:39it's it's a little bit scary as well, if I have to admit it,
- 9:41Like it's got some devilishly scary fucker's and lots of flashing lights like that's
- 9:48you. Well, pretty pretty much pretty much the whole entire intro to the
- 9:56actual song itself sits the scene because it's so erie and it's so creepy,
- 10:01and I pretty I've pretty much got vision in my head of what this video
- 10:07kind of could play out is just because I'm into pol the Geist programs,
- 10:13you know, ghostbusting stuff and all that kind of stuff and paranormal and it
- 10:16just played right into my imagination. And we decided this one that will actually
- 10:20more base it around props, so that really helps. So it's got all
- 10:26sorts of moving props and scales and wigi boards that move and stuff and all
- 10:33that kind of stuff. So that's pretty much how that whole thing came about
- 10:37was just me being into the paranormal. I just got engrossed in it,
- 10:41mate. Yeah, and like that video and then the other ones your release
- 10:46so far, like they've all been of a really high quality with good storylines
- 10:50and good visuals, and I know you guys are doing a lot of that
- 10:52yourself, So how much time and planning goes into something like that usually not
- 10:58very much change. The Dental videos themselves tend to actually write themselves of because
- 11:07we tend to follow the storyline of what the lyrics are actually about, and
- 11:11usually usually one of us will come up with it and we will add to
- 11:16it evitable concepts and ideas to the video, but one of us will come
- 11:18up with the main concept and we will just go, yeah, that's great,
- 11:22let's go that. And that's how the pretty much came around. And
- 11:24it's the same with the new one, I Bring Out the Dead. I
- 11:31just got absolutely involved in that one. I think, I think pretty much
- 11:35the guys just went I spent literally hours and hours and hours building props.
- 11:43Yeah right, well the shows man, because it looks good. Yeah,
- 11:48and I was just absolutely engrossed. So yeah, that's what came about.
- 11:52Then we generally film them over the course of a weekend. Yeah. Well,
- 11:58and I believe you're planning released a few more singles as well, but
- 12:01just as visualizes. Is that right? Oh yeah, yeah, like the
- 12:09rest of the album being released as visualizers. But we do intend to actually
- 12:13make a few more videos as well for some of the songs from the album,
- 12:16so that they'll be coming later on down the track. Yeah. Do
- 12:20you know the support of our label X Music Australia, We're gonna have some
- 12:24really cool visualizers for some other singles off the track and anything else will be
- 12:28doing. They'll be ready to go on May the third, so they'll drop
- 12:33when the video and net drops will bring up the DA. Of course,
- 12:35we'll be doing more videos throughout the year before. Like we said, with
- 12:41the whole album being like singles, pretty much all the songs actually could suit
- 12:46a video, so we just keep going with videos as well. A few
- 12:50more videos to come in that that speaks to the quality of the album itself.
- 12:54I guess like a lot of bands will drop two or three singles from
- 12:56an album and that's it. But you guys are confident enough to do more
- 13:00visualized up and more stuff about it. So yeah, those that the quality
- 13:03of the music is definitely there because you wouldn't be wasting your time otherwise.
- 13:07No, exactly exactly. There's only a couple of what we've probably called B
- 13:11sides otherwise all the rest are almost single quality. So yeah, was well
- 13:20just released them all as like videos and singles? Why not? Indeed,
- 13:24so us about it not albums, but all of them tell us a bit
- 13:30more about the cover arts and scars, we trust, so it's pretty cool
- 13:33to look at. Well, the cover art we just kind of thought was
- 13:37a good visual representation of, you know, what the album is about.
- 13:41And it's one of those covers you can kind of interpret like a lot of
- 13:46different ways. Like you know, however, you kind of see it like
- 13:52it's kind of like, well the albums and scars we trust. So it's
- 13:56basically how what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. So we thought that was
- 14:00a good representation of that. It's like a figure of light being omitted from
- 14:05it and yet it's bleeding out and scarred, you know. So that's basically
- 14:09it was the perfect way of representing what the what the album is called,
- 14:15what it's about, all right, twisted as fuck. So someone's got a
- 14:18vivid imagination. Yeah, we're not sure everyone will kind of sort of understand
- 14:26the image, but you know, it's basically what the interpretation. Yeah,
- 14:31and that's cool. That's the idea. That's the idea of artwork pass subjectives,
- 14:33so everyone can interpret it how they interpret it. Yeah. Cool.
- 14:39And I believe you've got some special pressings like visuals on the discs and singles
- 14:45as well as is that right? Yeah, some some basically the same sort
- 14:48of artwork extra artwork that we've got as well, and artwork that we're used
- 14:52on T shirts as well, the kind of stuff. So we've got a
- 14:54whole range ready to go for merchandise. And so yeah, the CD will
- 14:58have a a booklet which will have fold out and various pieces of art,
- 15:03some which will then be on the CD disc and some will be on T
- 15:07shirts and other merch We've basically got a range of art that the artist did
- 15:13in order to relate to the album and the theme and the themes of the
- 15:16songs, to create sort of like a visual story book for people to have
- 15:20something to look at and associate with the messages. Very cool. So this
- 15:24is definitely one that you should buy the physical copy of instead of ripping it
- 15:28for free on Spotify. Yeah, it's it's going to be a beautiful scene.
- 15:33Yeah. Yeah. Now you've got to show coming up on Friday night
- 15:37as well. A tried clubhouse in Redcords, So tell us a bit about
- 15:39that. Yeah, Look, I've tried to get a few shows at ME
- 15:48two obviously because the album's shopping. So yeah, I hearing really good things
- 15:52about the Tribe Club. Yes, and it's like one of those little cool
- 15:58little places and it's free entry, you know, And I think that's awesome
- 16:03and our today's world, it's not many shows you can go for free.
- 16:07Yeah, and it's it's no stage, it's like ground level and sometimes like
- 16:15more more personal sometimes those shows, right right, I mean sometimes are the
- 16:21best ones. Actually the really personal. You get personal with the crowd,
- 16:25you get right everything five the energy and everything and it's good. Look yeah,
- 16:30like a party bo place. So we didn't looking forward to that show.
- 16:34Yeah, and that's got Zagtar, Kaimura and Magnetron as well. I
- 16:38can say I've been to Tribe Clubhouse before, guys, and it's just a
- 16:41cool little ven. You're like, it's looking looking forward to it. Yeah,
- 16:47and after that you're playing with Melbourne death metal outfit Maru then over two
- 16:51shows at Most Desert Clubhouse and made the thirtieth in the back room in Brisbane
- 16:55on May thirty first, like that should be brutal. I reviewed their album
- 16:59the other week and interviewed them, and those fuckers are brittial, great good,
- 17:07just gonna fit in with us, I think. Yeah, I think
- 17:11so they got not good visual show too, like they can get a chance
- 17:12to check them out, and they've all got a bit of a backstory going
- 17:15on with their different characters and ship and it's it looks like I've full on
- 17:19performance. So anyone around for those two shows should definitely check them out.
- 17:23It's great to have a band that's, you know, putting so much effort
- 17:26in and coming up from Melbourne and we get to play with them, and
- 17:30you know, it's a really good band, and so I really recommend people
- 17:33come along and check that one out. And then June the fifteenth, we're
- 17:40back at the back room and for Jack Lane's show of memorial show that's gonna
- 17:51be that's going to be sick. You guys know from Detoriation. Obviously you
- 17:57passed away last year Jack did, so couldn't say no to that one.
- 18:03Yeah. In July twenty second, I think the bright Side we're there.
- 18:12That's a festival, that's a Fast Slaying Records festival he's putting on there.
- 18:18And then I believe I'm trying in the mix of organizing one on the Gold
- 18:22Coast for our official wall. Yeah. Well there's a fair coming up that
- 18:30we probably can't talk about yet because it hasn't been finalized or announced, but
- 18:33anyone wants to stay up to date with what's happening. With Kospia and perhaps
- 18:37buy a copy of the new CD. Where can they get them from,
- 18:41Well, thank you pretty much. Just mail us straight through Facebook all that
- 18:45kind of stuff, and also from the ex Music Official website X Music officials
