- 1:09Speaker 1: Roping Gem Welcome to the Dropping Gems podcast. I'm Debbie Brown.
- 1:14Speaker 1: This is my podcast. It is a place where we
- 1:17Speaker 1: explore higher consciousness and really ground it, really ingor it
- 1:21Speaker 1: into the present moment so that we can live it,
- 1:24Speaker 1: embody it, use it to transform ourselves and others, and
- 1:29Speaker 1: ultimately live the highest vision of our lives. That is
- 1:33Speaker 1: my intention for myself, that has my intention for each
- 1:36Speaker 1: person that comes across this show. So today's episode, I
- 1:40Speaker 1: had a chance to record a really fun and interesting
- 1:44Speaker 1: episode of the Money Moves Podcast. Now. Money Moves Podcast
- 1:49Speaker 1: is an in depth podcast that is hosted by Tanya Sam,
- 1:52Speaker 1: a really gorgeous, dynamic, brilliant woman, and I had a
- 1:57Speaker 1: really great time being in conversation with her. The show
- 2:00Speaker 1: is dedicated to empowering black and brown communities to in
- 2:03Speaker 1: the wealth gap by providing financial planning tips, with guests
- 2:07Speaker 1: sharing their successes and how they balanced the money moves
- 2:10Speaker 1: behind their names and businesses so they're making money moves
- 2:14Speaker 1: to in the wealth gap. By highlighting the celebrities that
- 2:17Speaker 1: are making significant money moves and giving a platform to
- 2:20Speaker 1: experts in the financial literacy space and an opportunity to
- 2:24Speaker 1: break the myths holding all of our communities back. The host,
- 2:28Speaker 1: as I shared, her name, is Tanya Sam. She's so dope.
- 2:31Speaker 1: She's a tech savvy businesswoman. She's the director of Partnerships
- 2:34Speaker 1: at tech Square Labs, a technology startup, phub and venture
- 2:38Speaker 1: capital fund, and Tanya is passionate about creating pathways to
- 2:41Speaker 1: bring more women and minorities into business and technology. Yes,
- 2:47Speaker 1: so needed. So I did an episode of their podcast
- 2:51Speaker 1: that they're going to be premiering on their network in
- 2:54Speaker 1: the next couple of weeks. But they gave me permission
- 2:56Speaker 1: to give you an advanced listen and share my episode
- 2:59Speaker 1: of Money Moves with Tanya sam Here on Dropping Gems.
- 3:04Speaker 1: So in this episode, we explore mindfulness, we explore some
- 3:07Speaker 1: money moves, um, and I give a little bit of
- 3:11Speaker 1: thought around building a business in this space and things
- 3:16Speaker 1: that you might want to consider if you're called to teach.
- 3:19Speaker 1: So that is this. I hope you enjoyed the episode. Hey,

- 4:09Speaker 1: someone whose voice I have listened to many many times,
- 4:13Speaker 1: who is truly as beautiful on the outside as she
- 4:16Speaker 1: is on the inside. The incredible spiritual hitler, Debbie Brown,
- 4:22Speaker 1: Please welcome to our podcast. I'm so grateful to be
- 4:27Speaker 1: here with you. Thank you so much, Thank you so much.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I feel like already I am vibrating at a higher
- 4:34Speaker 1: level just having you grace our screen, and I'm so
- 4:37Speaker 1: excited to share you know, more about you and your
- 4:40Speaker 1: journey so that you can empower so many many, so
- 4:43Speaker 1: many of our listeners and audience to take their lives
- 4:47Speaker 1: to a higher level. M thank you so much, and
- 4:51Speaker 1: thank you for this gorgeous work that you're sharing with
- 4:53Speaker 1: the world. Like the impact that you're making is so
- 4:56Speaker 1: powerful and it's so needed. We need that financial routine,
- 4:59Speaker 1: we need that spiritual routing, that mental emotional healing, um
- 5:04Speaker 1: all holistically full circle. I was just gonna say, you know,
- 5:06Speaker 1: you were all about empowerment, inner peace and overall self love,
- 5:10Speaker 1: but the holistic aspect of looking at how we can
- 5:13Speaker 1: both you know, be a tuned to ourselves and at
- 5:16Speaker 1: the same time achieve success and wellness in our lives
- 5:20Speaker 1: so that we can truly live our fully authenticated lives.
- 5:24Speaker 1: So I'm an appreciative of this and you being here today.
- 5:27Speaker 1: So I just want to dive into Debbie, you know,
- 5:32Speaker 1: and what you just spoke to, like abundance and is
- 5:35Speaker 1: our birthright? Yes, And I think that we're just now collectively,
- 5:39Speaker 1: especially within black and brown communities, really able to embrace that.
- 5:43Speaker 1: For centuries, we've been on this path of forced resilience,
- 5:46Speaker 1: this idea that life is to be endured and not enjoyed.
- 5:50Speaker 1: And I think that we are at that big paradigm
- 5:53Speaker 1: shifting moment in human history right now where we're all
- 5:56Speaker 1: realizing that we are worthy of more. We are deserving
- 5:59Speaker 1: of more. It is our birthright to have ease, abundance
- 6:02Speaker 1: and grace flow into our lives, and we're looking to
- 6:05Speaker 1: really like share our gifts and powerful new ways and
- 6:08Speaker 1: you know, make a wage that creates generational freedom and
- 6:13Speaker 1: generational wealth. Yes, And that is so true, you know,
- 6:17Speaker 1: it's so interesting to even hear. I just did a
- 6:19Speaker 1: meditation this morning and I used that mantra all the time.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Abundance is my birthright. So I just hope that those
- 6:25Speaker 1: listening can really take that in and feel what feel
- 6:28Speaker 1: your the power of your words, and be able to
- 6:30Speaker 1: put it forth into their daily lives, because that's what
- 6:33Speaker 1: this podcast is about. Money Moves is about creating generational
- 6:36Speaker 1: wealth and abundance not only in our bank accounts, but
- 6:39Speaker 1: for our families, for our souls and spirituality. So Debbie, again,
- 6:45Speaker 1: thank you so much. But I want to take us
- 6:46Speaker 1: back to you know how you sort of got started
- 6:49Speaker 1: on your journey, UM. You know, you you're working with
- 6:52Speaker 1: incredibly visionary grades like Deepak Chopra and you know, helping
- 6:58Speaker 1: so many different spirits all across this kind trade. Can
- 7:00Speaker 1: you tell us how you started in radio and entertainment, UM,
- 7:04Speaker 1: and then we'll sideway to where you are now. Yeah,
- 7:07Speaker 1: thank you for that. You know, I think when I
- 7:10Speaker 1: think of my story in my life, it's just for me.
- 7:14Speaker 1: It's a representative of the way that God's whispers really
- 7:17Speaker 1: guide the path. How that kind of deeper inner knowing
- 7:20Speaker 1: that we can't even fathom or really see. You know,
- 7:24Speaker 1: the vertical of the long term view of UM has
- 7:27Speaker 1: always been available to us, and there's always been whispers
- 7:29Speaker 1: that have guided us. And so you know, I'm the
- 7:31Speaker 1: only child raised by a single parent, and by nature
- 7:34Speaker 1: of that that means I'm always inside my own head,
- 7:37Speaker 1: inside my own heart, investigating UM. And so I kind
- 7:40Speaker 1: of hit the perfect path because I've always been a seeker.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I've always been deeply curious about the world and deeply
- 7:48Speaker 1: curious about myself. So when I birth, when I started
- 7:51Speaker 1: my professional working life, I started in broadcasting. And so
- 7:54Speaker 1: when I went to college, I thought, I either want
- 7:56Speaker 1: to be two things. I want to be a psychologist
- 7:58Speaker 1: or I want to be a news anchor. Kind of
- 8:01Speaker 1: two opposite ends of the spectrum. But I kind of
- 8:03Speaker 1: feel like I've done both. That actually makes perfect sense somehow, right,
- 8:09Speaker 1: I was, like, so, actually I knew what I was
- 8:11Speaker 1: doing a rating UM. But I started my path in
- 8:14Speaker 1: broadcasting and really an underground hip hop in l A specifically,
- 8:18Speaker 1: it was an era of time where we were the
- 8:20Speaker 1: underdogs and wrap in the music. And I was on
- 8:23Speaker 1: the radio at that time and working with like a
- 8:25Speaker 1: lot of the young emerging wrap talent of Los Angeles
- 8:28Speaker 1: that has since gone on to take a huge space
- 8:31Speaker 1: in the world. And you know, when I was in radio,
- 8:34Speaker 1: what I fell in love with about radio was the
- 8:37Speaker 1: ability to connect. I think overwhelmingly. Aside from like the
- 8:41Speaker 1: celebrity or music industry perks or you know, interview opportunities
- 8:46Speaker 1: that came with it, it was the day to day
- 8:48Speaker 1: talking to my listeners, hearing from people from all over,
- 8:53Speaker 1: the demographic of Los Angeles and what mattered to them,
- 8:56Speaker 1: what interested them, what made them feel seen and heard,
- 8:59Speaker 1: and so through that I was I was working in radio,
- 9:02Speaker 1: but then I was also working in the community and
- 9:04Speaker 1: taking on different projects, and I was the Community Action
- 9:07Speaker 1: Director and so many different things, um. And you know,
- 9:11Speaker 1: while I was in that, it really unlocked in me
- 9:14Speaker 1: this desire to create a space to be a soft
- 9:19Speaker 1: place to land for, you know, to to allow them
- 9:23Speaker 1: to feel seen, to feel heard, to to feel experienced,
- 9:28Speaker 1: you know. And that was the thing that really guided
- 9:31Speaker 1: me through close to a fifteen year career of working
- 9:33Speaker 1: in entertainment. I also had a chance to work in
- 9:35Speaker 1: TV and do a bunch of fun, amazing things, um
- 9:39Speaker 1: But at a certain point I needed more, you know,
- 9:42Speaker 1: at a certain point. The way that especially that culture
- 9:45Speaker 1: of entertainment was set up when I was working in it,
- 9:48Speaker 1: it was all about judgment. Everything was rooted in coming
- 9:51Speaker 1: up with this really fast opinion even if he didn't
- 9:53Speaker 1: know what you were given an opinion on, you had
- 9:55Speaker 1: to come up with something, and you had to be
- 9:57Speaker 1: in judgment. You were constantly telling like the intricate workings
- 10:01Speaker 1: of someone else's life from an outside perspective, and I
- 10:05Speaker 1: got to a point where I couldn't stomach it. It
- 10:07Speaker 1: just wasn't an alignment with how I wanted to think,
- 10:10Speaker 1: how I wanted to feel, or how I wanted to
- 10:11Speaker 1: share myself in the constraints that I had, and so
- 10:16Speaker 1: mix in with that, I was like one of the
- 10:18Speaker 1: youngest executives at the time. Um, I was a music director.
- 10:21Speaker 1: I was really young. I was like the only woman
- 10:23Speaker 1: doing that, and by nature of that, I got burned out,
- 10:26Speaker 1: and by nature of like some of the excess that
- 10:29Speaker 1: was around, I got burnt out at a really young thing.
- 10:32Speaker 1: And did you recognize it as burnout? Like because now
- 10:35Speaker 1: you know you're on this very spiritual and holistic path, right,
- 10:38Speaker 1: did you recognize it then as burnout? And were you
- 10:43Speaker 1: as at tuned as you are now or was as
- 10:46Speaker 1: this sort of in the evolution of your journey? So
- 10:49Speaker 1: I'm definitely evolved. Um, but I think in many ways, yeah,
- 10:52Speaker 1: this has always been my path. I didn't always have
- 10:54Speaker 1: the language for it. I didn't always know how to
- 10:57Speaker 1: share it. But it has always been my path. Um.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I was a kid who I was in middle school
- 11:03Speaker 1: with the self help book, you know, like I, I've
- 11:05Speaker 1: always been fascinated by transformation, fascinated by the human spirit
- 11:09Speaker 1: and human emotion, and so I did always resonate with this,
- 11:13Speaker 1: and I was always in some degree studying ways to grow,
- 11:18Speaker 1: to enhance myself, to become more of me um. But
- 11:22Speaker 1: you know, when I when I was having the burned out,
- 11:23Speaker 1: I didn't quite know that it was like my existential
- 11:26Speaker 1: crisis time. I didn't know that it was like me
- 11:29Speaker 1: figuring out a whole new way of living. But I
- 11:32Speaker 1: knew that I couldn't continue as I was. I didn't
- 11:35Speaker 1: have all the wise of why I couldn't. I definitely
- 11:38Speaker 1: didn't have the next step in mind. But I knew
- 11:40Speaker 1: something had to shift, and that I was being called
- 11:43Speaker 1: to powerfully shift, and that if I didn't, that whisper
- 11:47Speaker 1: from God would have turned into like catching a fade
- 11:49Speaker 1: from God, and I was not available for that. I
- 11:51Speaker 1: did not want to argue with God. I didn't want
- 11:53Speaker 1: to fight. I wanted to surrender and so that led
- 11:56Speaker 1: me to my very first meditation retreat almost ten years
- 11:59Speaker 1: ago with deepak Um at one of his locations, and
- 12:03Speaker 1: that's where I learned to meditate. And everything about my
- 12:06Speaker 1: life changed after I learned to meditate, and I knew
- 12:09Speaker 1: that I was called to help people heal and to
- 12:12Speaker 1: help people to understand themselves more deeply. So eventually that
- 12:15Speaker 1: led me to become certified in this work. I have
- 12:17Speaker 1: multiple certifications and so many different areas of healing and
- 12:21Speaker 1: deep in my own practice. I started my own business
- 12:24Speaker 1: and now my full circle. I am back with Deepac
- 12:27Speaker 1: at Choper Global. Um in deep gratitude of being able
- 12:31Speaker 1: to share this powerful work with the world. Absolutely um.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I will say, you know, we've all just come out
- 12:37Speaker 1: of this world in global pandemic, where we've all been
- 12:40Speaker 1: shut down, locked in, facing so much uncertainty. And this
- 12:43Speaker 1: was actually the first time I learned to meditate. I
- 12:47Speaker 1: hadn't really meditated before the pandemic, and I was exposed
- 12:51Speaker 1: to it through just different apps, and I am so
- 12:55Speaker 1: grateful for it. I have probably put in thousands of
- 12:58Speaker 1: hours now, um, and it's become such an integral part
- 13:02Speaker 1: of my life and I'm just so grateful for it,
- 13:04Speaker 1: And I'm also so grateful for what you are doing
- 13:07Speaker 1: with DEEPOC, exposing especially black and brown communities to being
- 13:10Speaker 1: able to have this tool that I think is truly
- 13:12Speaker 1: life changing. And you know, as our in our community
- 13:16Speaker 1: in particular, we carry a lot of this with us,
- 13:19Speaker 1: and just to be able to have the tools and
- 13:21Speaker 1: expose so many more hearts to this is just like
- 13:26Speaker 1: really truly prolific work. Oh my god, thank you for
- 13:30Speaker 1: saying that, And I'm so happy that you're meditating. It
- 13:32Speaker 1: is the greatest gift. It is the biggest misconception is
- 13:37Speaker 1: that it's hard or it's expensive. Can you tell us
- 13:40Speaker 1: a little bit more about your work as topra's Chief
- 13:43Speaker 1: Impact Officer, And you know, I I love that this
- 13:46Speaker 1: is a full circle moment for you. Yeah, you know,
- 13:50Speaker 1: it's so beautiful. And I think that that in deepox
- 13:53Speaker 1: works so incredibly and powerfully speaks to divine flow, to
- 13:58Speaker 1: receptive energy, to the synchronicities in our lives and the
- 14:02Speaker 1: greater stories being told. So when I look back at
- 14:04Speaker 1: my path of purpose, I'm just like, you know, it
- 14:07Speaker 1: may not make sense from now outside looking in, but
- 14:09Speaker 1: it actually makes perfect divine sense for me, I'm like, oh,
- 14:12Speaker 1: that's where that dot connected, That's where that twist happened. Um.
- 14:16Speaker 1: But my work with Choper Global is so so important
- 14:19Speaker 1: to me, and what it's really rooted in is giving
- 14:22Speaker 1: access to all to this healing work UM, specifically communities
- 14:27Speaker 1: of color. So often I think that sometimes by way
- 14:32Speaker 1: of programming, sometimes just by lack of knowing m lack
- 14:36Speaker 1: of organic kind of seed planting of this work. These
- 14:40Speaker 1: rooms are often very very white and very specific demographics.
- 14:44Speaker 1: And you know, when I first came into this space
- 14:46Speaker 1: as someone that was looking to heal, It's like, why
- 14:49Speaker 1: am I the only person that looks like me in
- 14:50Speaker 1: these rooms that can't just speak because of price point?
- 14:53Speaker 1: You know, what are the other barriers to healing that
- 14:56Speaker 1: we have up that need to be disarmed? And I'm
- 14:58Speaker 1: a believer that communities of color deeply need and deserve
- 15:03Speaker 1: this work at every level. Like we're not just working
- 15:06Speaker 1: through the curriculum of spirit that we came to this
- 15:09Speaker 1: earth with. We're also working through major ancestral healing, major
- 15:14Speaker 1: intergenerational trauma, you know, and very often we don't naturally
- 15:19Speaker 1: find this work because either our families of origin or
- 15:22Speaker 1: systems of belief keep us looking at healing in one
- 15:25Speaker 1: specific way, or keep us looking at God in one
- 15:28Speaker 1: very specific way. Um. And also because sometimes we just
- 15:32Speaker 1: don't always know that this is happening and available for us,
- 15:35Speaker 1: especially if you don't live where I live in Los Angeles.
- 15:38Speaker 1: I don't live in New York or those coastal cities
- 15:40Speaker 1: that have more access, you know. And so meditation, you know,
- 15:45Speaker 1: I think is so it seems so mysterious to people.
- 15:49Speaker 1: But it's sitting still and being quiet, that's it, which
- 15:54Speaker 1: is exactly and that is that is sort of the
- 15:57Speaker 1: beauty of it. Um. That I that I've learned to
- 16:01Speaker 1: love about it because society makes us be like go,
- 16:04Speaker 1: go go. And you know, I think something you said
- 16:05Speaker 1: was super interesting because on money moves, we want to
- 16:08Speaker 1: dispel a lot of the misconceptions that may may or
- 16:11Speaker 1: may not have been handed down to us through previous generations, etcetera.
- 16:15Speaker 1: And I think that this is exactly one of them.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Being able to be open and vulnerable about where you
- 16:20Speaker 1: are with yourself, with your traumas. I mean, you even
- 16:23Speaker 1: spoke to you know, as people of color, like the
- 16:26Speaker 1: genetic imprinting that we perhaps don't even know has been
- 16:31Speaker 1: passed on. So being able to break those myths and
- 16:33Speaker 1: talk about it openly, I think is also the key
- 16:36Speaker 1: to just not only creating generational wealth, but generational freedom. Absolutely,
- 16:44Speaker 1: And you know, I think so often what's also kept
- 16:50Speaker 1: so many from the work it's just not even believing
- 16:53Speaker 1: that you deserve it and not knowing why you don't
- 16:55Speaker 1: think you deserve it, you know, And so then you
- 16:58Speaker 1: just are wrestling with this inner chaos, in this inner shame.
- 17:01Speaker 1: And the deeper truth is that we've arrived at really
- 17:04Speaker 1: the first moment in human history where there is ease
- 17:07Speaker 1: to access this work, where we can look at all
- 17:10Speaker 1: of the structures at place, all of the compounded complex
- 17:13Speaker 1: stress and post traumatic stress that has been placed on us,
- 17:17Speaker 1: and we can know that, hey, we didn't get this
- 17:19Speaker 1: work sooner. My parents, my grandparents, my great grandparents, didn't
- 17:23Speaker 1: get this work sooner because of structural oppression, because of
- 17:27Speaker 1: systemic racism, because of all the things that have kept
- 17:29Speaker 1: everyone bound throughout human history. You know. But now that
- 17:33Speaker 1: we've arrived at this point where we can speak our truth,
- 17:36Speaker 1: where we can move away from this path of forced resilience,
- 17:39Speaker 1: where we can focus on self and allow ourselves to feel,
- 17:42Speaker 1: and it's safe to feel. It's a perfect opportunity to
- 17:47Speaker 1: really dive into and savor this work of self. It
- 17:51Speaker 1: is and I love that. And I think you know
- 17:53Speaker 1: something else you said, it's just sometimes we believe we
- 17:56Speaker 1: don't deserve it. And I think the same comes from
- 17:59Speaker 1: like our dream you know, we're we're like folks are
- 18:02Speaker 1: scared to dream, Like, well, I can have what this
- 18:04Speaker 1: person has, I can have with this person. And it's
- 18:06Speaker 1: it's about cultivating that mindset and that intention and just
- 18:10Speaker 1: believing that your dreams are your reality. And I think
- 18:13Speaker 1: the meditation is the perfect way, um to achieve some
- 18:17Speaker 1: of that. Yeah, likewise, it's meditation is delicious, Like that's
- 18:23Speaker 1: how I view it. I love that it's really challenging
- 18:26Speaker 1: at first, but it's only because we're not used to
- 18:29Speaker 1: being with ourselves. So as soon as we can disarm
- 18:32Speaker 1: that and just say, this feels uncomfortable because it's new,
- 18:35Speaker 1: not because it's wrong, not because I can't do it.
- 18:37Speaker 1: There is no perfect it's just new, um. And then
- 18:40Speaker 1: the to me, the greatest gift of meditation is it
- 18:43Speaker 1: really teaches you the deepest truth of who you are.
- 18:46Speaker 1: It cultivates in need this natural gratitude. It creates space inside,
- 18:51Speaker 1: more space for you. You kind of unpack and pull
- 18:55Speaker 1: out so much of your story that doesn't serve you
- 18:57Speaker 1: so many ways that maybe pain has been cume your
- 19:00Speaker 1: identity and you're able to kind of get to the
- 19:02Speaker 1: best parts of who you are. This is so beautiful.
- 19:05Speaker 1: And what's so beautiful is like you have now taken
- 19:08Speaker 1: something that you deeply passionately love and been able to
- 19:12Speaker 1: create a business around it, support yourself and like everything
- 19:15Speaker 1: feels so perfectly aligned. Can you talk about like the
- 19:18Speaker 1: business aspect of what you're doing and how you're able to,
- 19:22Speaker 1: you know, take something that you're super passionate about but
- 19:25Speaker 1: also make a living because I think that's so important
- 19:27Speaker 1: for people to realize that you can make your passions
- 19:29Speaker 1: into your livelihood. You can absolutely make all of your
- 19:33Speaker 1: passions into your livelihood, but you also have to move
- 19:36Speaker 1: it past passion and you have to educate yourself. That's
- 19:39Speaker 1: something I want to make really clear, because in this
- 19:41Speaker 1: space of wellness, it's not just about positivity. It's not
- 19:44Speaker 1: just oh I believe it being positive and let's sit
- 19:48Speaker 1: down and be still and now pay me your money
- 19:50Speaker 1: to tell me that you know. Thank you for saying that. Yeah,
- 19:55Speaker 1: I think it's important, you know, because in this day
- 19:57Speaker 1: and age, for so many it is is about fast money,
- 20:01Speaker 1: and it is about Okay, I'm trying to hit this lick.
- 20:04Speaker 1: I'm trying to get this bag because right now wellness
- 20:07Speaker 1: is on trend or X, Y and Z is on trend,
- 20:10Speaker 1: and so let me step into this space. Um and
- 20:13Speaker 1: for me, it's about my own healing. It's about deeper legacy.
- 20:17Speaker 1: It is how will this show up in the world.
- 20:19Speaker 1: And so I think if you are passionate about something
- 20:21Speaker 1: and you want to turn it into a business, have
- 20:24Speaker 1: reverence for the calling on your life, have revents for
- 20:27Speaker 1: your gifts, and invest in yourself real tools that will
- 20:32Speaker 1: make whatever you dive into more than like getting the
- 20:35Speaker 1: bag or hitting the lick, and turn it into lifelong
- 20:38Speaker 1: legacy that you can then use as a springboard into
- 20:41Speaker 1: new passions and new areas. You know, I'm a positive person, yes,
- 20:45Speaker 1: but I'm not selling positivity. I believe in deep, deep
- 20:48Speaker 1: shadow work. I have been you know, I have probably
- 20:52Speaker 1: spent the equivalent of an Ivy League education on my
- 20:55Speaker 1: own education over the last ten years, on my training
- 20:58Speaker 1: and trauma, my training and somatic heally, my training and
- 21:01Speaker 1: energy work, my training in psychology, and so I recognized
- 21:05Speaker 1: that this was my calling. It was something that I
- 21:08Speaker 1: was intuitively and naturally good at, and I had cultivated
- 21:12Speaker 1: a really vast gift of communication to share it through
- 21:16Speaker 1: my previous career. But it's through all the deeper work
- 21:20Speaker 1: and through all of the investment of myself and actually
- 21:23Speaker 1: creating like the systems and creating the way for this
- 21:26Speaker 1: to be my life's work, you know. So I do
- 21:30Speaker 1: believe follow your passion because your purposes in your passion,
- 21:33Speaker 1: but go deeper than just using it to make money
- 21:37Speaker 1: and see how it can actually be reflective of the
- 21:40Speaker 1: larger story of your life. Being told, Drop, I was
- 21:51Speaker 1: super excited and incredibly inspired by your partnership with Alicia Keys,
- 21:56Speaker 1: with Choprah and the twenty one day um Meditation retreat.
- 22:00Speaker 1: If if if I'm saying that serious, how that came about,
- 22:04Speaker 1: and I'm sure you're rolling it as bringing in other
- 22:07Speaker 1: women of color um onto his platform as well. Oh
- 22:11Speaker 1: so beautiful And as much as I wish I could
- 22:14Speaker 1: take credit for that, Deepak and Alicia actually beautifully old
- 22:17Speaker 1: friends that and she has been so steeped in this
- 22:20Speaker 1: work for so long. UM, but it was it was
- 22:23Speaker 1: really wonderful. I felt like it was like such a
- 22:25Speaker 1: merger of my justest of having interviewed her and entertainment
- 22:29Speaker 1: and really loved the music for so long, and then
- 22:31Speaker 1: now with this beautiful programming. So the program that we
- 22:34Speaker 1: did with Deepak and Alicia was called the Divine Feminine
- 22:37Speaker 1: Pathway to Wholeness, and so you know, what we really
- 22:41Speaker 1: linked into was the power of sacred femininity, the power
- 22:45Speaker 1: of the kind of tender warrior um, the strength, the
- 22:49Speaker 1: power and the grace of women. And there was a
- 22:51Speaker 1: gorgeous twenty one day meditation series that they each voiced
- 22:55Speaker 1: UM in service to their individual lenses of how to
- 22:58Speaker 1: kind of cultivate that archetypal energy within ourselves. And it
- 23:02Speaker 1: was millions of people around the world joined us for it,
- 23:05Speaker 1: and it was so powerful and people can still do
- 23:08Speaker 1: it too. It's on our app so if you download
- 23:10Speaker 1: the choper appids right and there. Um. Yeah, it was
- 23:13Speaker 1: so powerful and I loved working on that with both
- 23:16Speaker 1: of them, and Alicia is so deeply authentic and so
- 23:19Speaker 1: deeply committed to bringing this work into a greater audience. UM.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Into sharing her gifts. I love it. I'm I'm serious.
- 23:27Speaker 1: It's so funny because your voice is so malipulous and
- 23:31Speaker 1: nice to listen to. So I'm listening to you and
- 23:33Speaker 1: I'm going, yeah, so I gotta like, I gotta wake
- 23:38Speaker 1: up here. No, I'm just joking, but it is. It
- 23:40Speaker 1: is so lovely to listen to. So, Okay, now you've
- 23:43Speaker 1: left radio, you're back doing this spiritual work. Um, can
- 23:48Speaker 1: we talk about your podcast now that you have Dropping Gems,
- 23:51Speaker 1: because I mean, this is just more of you doing
- 23:54Speaker 1: the work and what made you decide to sort of
- 23:56Speaker 1: be a creator in that space? Yeah, so my podcast
- 24:00Speaker 1: Dropping Gim's. I mean, you know, I did work in
- 24:03Speaker 1: radio for over a decade, and so my natural kind
- 24:06Speaker 1: of where I find my ease is in communicating. And
- 24:09Speaker 1: I was having such beautifully expansive conversations with so many
- 24:13Speaker 1: friends in both the hip hop community but also within
- 24:16Speaker 1: the spiritual communities. And I'm like, I need a press
- 24:18Speaker 1: record of news and share them. Um, And so I
- 24:20Speaker 1: pulled the trigger on it about I started my podcast
- 24:24Speaker 1: I Want to Stay two years ago. We're now gratefully
- 24:26Speaker 1: with my Heart Media and the Black Effect Network from
- 24:29Speaker 1: Charlemagne the God, and the show is really centered on
- 24:32Speaker 1: making higher consciousness tangible, and I use a lot of
- 24:36Speaker 1: my life as the case study for that. I really
- 24:38Speaker 1: study myself and study my process. I'm really always in
- 24:43Speaker 1: study of deeper spiritual work, and I kind of I
- 24:46Speaker 1: apply it and then I share how I experienced it,
- 24:49Speaker 1: and I invite other people in for the conversation. And
- 24:51Speaker 1: so we've had some really powerful guests. We've had some
- 24:54Speaker 1: really interesting stories, UM, and I love to demystify things
- 24:58Speaker 1: that you know, maybe everyone as an open to, but
- 25:01Speaker 1: it has been a part of my life, like you know,
- 25:03Speaker 1: having your birth chart done and using that as a
- 25:05Speaker 1: useful spiritual tool. I recently just did my human design chart. Actually, yeah,
- 25:10Speaker 1: I had an incredible, incredible solicitor human design on my
- 25:13Speaker 1: show recently. Um. We we've had different spiritual teachers, acupuncturists, UM,
- 25:21Speaker 1: sexual healers, people that work with blue healing. Just really
- 25:25Speaker 1: really expansive all the ways in which you can heal.
- 25:27Speaker 1: I I feature on my show, so you know, even
- 25:30Speaker 1: talking to you make it all seem so easy and
- 25:33Speaker 1: like you've just sort of come to this place. UM
- 25:36Speaker 1: along this like downhill, you know, water pathway can you
- 25:40Speaker 1: talk about some of the like key obstacles that you've
- 25:44Speaker 1: faced in the past couple of years to get to
- 25:46Speaker 1: where you are now. I don't want people to even
- 25:48Speaker 1: think that it's always beds of roses um. Well, so
- 25:52Speaker 1: you know, here's the thing, it's always it is always
- 25:55Speaker 1: actually easy, because it's always about switching the lens of perception.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Like easy does not mean puppies and rainbows, you know,
- 26:02Speaker 1: easy does not mean I'm positive all the time, right,
- 26:05Speaker 1: Deep spiritual work, healing work is about also greeting your shadows.
- 26:10Speaker 1: So it's not easy in the sense that I just
- 26:12Speaker 1: you know, I'm just like, oh, love and light. So
- 26:15Speaker 1: it's like I'm also sometimes in in tears for hours,
- 26:19Speaker 1: and I'm greeting past versions of myself. I'm moving myself
- 26:23Speaker 1: through grief in meditation, I'm allowing myself to feel. Spiritual
- 26:28Speaker 1: growth is rooted and allowing yourself to feel and transcending
- 26:32Speaker 1: those feelings and dissolving any barriers that we have up
- 26:36Speaker 1: against receiving our own love. And so it's a it's
- 26:41Speaker 1: a work of the crevices. It's about getting into the darker,
- 26:44Speaker 1: deeper parts. That's the work of spirit. But it doesn't
- 26:47Speaker 1: have to be cloaked in fear, and it doesn't have
- 26:50Speaker 1: to be cloaked in difficulty. It is something where I
- 26:53Speaker 1: can wake up and say, Wow, I'm feeling really heavy today,
- 26:57Speaker 1: I'm feeling kind of down today. Okay, let me go
- 26:59Speaker 1: sit down, let me see where that is. What wants
- 27:02Speaker 1: to come out, what wants to be known to me?
- 27:04Speaker 1: What am I supposed to heal in this moment. It's
- 27:07Speaker 1: more about the work of diligence. I love that, and
- 27:12Speaker 1: I'm this is just such a word and such a
- 27:14Speaker 1: message for so many because I think just hearing it
- 27:17Speaker 1: and planting those seeds UM helps people prepare them for
- 27:21Speaker 1: like how they can best heal self. Debby, I love
- 27:25Speaker 1: that you've come to this UM and approach this, give
- 27:27Speaker 1: this work, which is a gift to so many, not
- 27:30Speaker 1: only as a way to form legacy, but also as
- 27:32Speaker 1: a business. Can you talk about how you've come to
- 27:35Speaker 1: understand your worth in this and how you price this
- 27:38Speaker 1: out for so many other wellness healers or spiritual leaders
- 27:43Speaker 1: in this industry. Yeah, thank you for this question. You know,
- 27:46Speaker 1: I think the biggest thing that I encounter when I
- 27:49Speaker 1: speak with people that are looking to specifically work in
- 27:51Speaker 1: wellness as their life's worker, as a path. Usually in
- 27:55Speaker 1: the beginning of it, there's the sphere of charging this
- 27:58Speaker 1: fear of turning it into is something that you monetize,
- 28:01Speaker 1: turning into a business. What I found is that really
- 28:04Speaker 1: the deeper layer of that is also spiritual opportunity to
- 28:08Speaker 1: do shadow work. You know, a lot of it, especially
- 28:10Speaker 1: for women in this space, is rooted in this idea
- 28:13Speaker 1: of being a martyr, this idea that has been modeled
- 28:16Speaker 1: for us and thrust upon our sutriarchy, that everything you
- 28:20Speaker 1: do that is in service to others or that is
- 28:22Speaker 1: for healing, it's just you depleting yourself. But then no, no, no,
- 28:27Speaker 1: that's right. No, don't worry about me, you know, And
- 28:29Speaker 1: I rebuke all of that, like it's about a core
- 28:32Speaker 1: tenet of spirituality is about energetic exchange. There should always
- 28:37Speaker 1: be benefit from both parties when doing business. And it's
- 28:40Speaker 1: not selfish and it's not wrong. It's a tenant of spirituality.
- 28:44Speaker 1: What is the balance, what is the receptive flow, the
- 28:47Speaker 1: giving and receiving. It has to happen in tandem. And
- 28:50Speaker 1: so I think, you know, for any any of that
- 28:52Speaker 1: are watching this and maybe connecting to this work, and
- 28:54Speaker 1: struggling with prosperity. You want to price yourself fairly in
- 29:01Speaker 1: whatever that means to you write, But you also have
- 29:04Speaker 1: to know that you deserve abundance, that you are worthy,
- 29:08Speaker 1: that the work you've cultivated and the way you serve
- 29:10Speaker 1: and help other people is absolutely worth something. And you
- 29:14Speaker 1: deserve to have a life of softness, a life of ease,
- 29:17Speaker 1: and a life of abundance as well as you help others,
- 29:20Speaker 1: you know. And so when I think of my own work,
- 29:23Speaker 1: like I do work at various price points. Like I
- 29:25Speaker 1: work in wellness at an executive level, I also work
- 29:28Speaker 1: on a talent level, and I also sometimes do more
- 29:31Speaker 1: intimate exchanges. And so you know, the way that I
- 29:35Speaker 1: occupy space. The biggest, the biggest piece that's important to
- 29:38Speaker 1: me in any work that I do is that there's
- 29:41Speaker 1: a debility inability to democratize it for all that need it.
- 29:45Speaker 1: And so I might do that in a couple of
- 29:47Speaker 1: different ways. If I know that I am, you know,
- 29:50Speaker 1: contracted to speak at an event or lead a retreat,
- 29:53Speaker 1: and that retreat may cost between five thousand and ten
- 29:57Speaker 1: thousand dollars to attend, I also try to make whatever
- 30:00Speaker 1: I know that I'm teaching their more accessible to people
- 30:04Speaker 1: wherever they are, so that they can do this work
- 30:07Speaker 1: from home, so that they can do this work for friends.
- 30:09Speaker 1: So I try to offer and create my teaching at
- 30:12Speaker 1: different levels, so an advanced case might be here, but
- 30:15Speaker 1: then I also will find a way to teach similar
- 30:19Speaker 1: themes at maybe a thirty dollar webinar or a price point.
- 30:22Speaker 1: So I want to make sure that I'm meeting everyone
- 30:25Speaker 1: where they're at, but I am also available to maximize
- 30:28Speaker 1: my energetic potential um in each moment. Absolutely, and even
- 30:32Speaker 1: I mean as simple things as your podcast, it's still
- 30:35Speaker 1: a gift. There's still learning there, there's still ways that
- 30:37Speaker 1: you can reach and reach such other people as well.
- 30:40Speaker 1: And I completely understand this in um I started my
- 30:43Speaker 1: career as a nurse, so I completely understand the idea
- 30:47Speaker 1: for especially for women in this that we're just supposed
- 30:49Speaker 1: to give endlessly and care for others, you know, at
- 30:52Speaker 1: whatever price points. So I appreciate you, you know, speaking
- 30:55Speaker 1: on that for so many because I think it's it's
- 30:57Speaker 1: a struggle for people to understand is it hey to
- 31:01Speaker 1: charge for this or add value to something that should
- 31:04Speaker 1: really you know that it is such a gift. Yeah,
- 31:07Speaker 1: and I think really research to you know, find the
- 31:10Speaker 1: industry standard of other people where there are similarities, because
- 31:14Speaker 1: I think something that is happening now, largely because of
- 31:17Speaker 1: social media, are so entrepreneurism is really beautifully on the
- 31:21Speaker 1: rise and expanding. I have noticed that some people are
- 31:25Speaker 1: just making up prices, you know, some people are just
- 31:28Speaker 1: like I do this, it's five. It's like, okay, but
- 31:32Speaker 1: how do we quantify what that costs so it's actually
- 31:35Speaker 1: sustainable because price gouging is not sustainable, you know. So
- 31:39Speaker 1: it's like, I think that we should still hold ourselves
- 31:42Speaker 1: as at a level of dignity in our offerings um
- 31:45Speaker 1: and then also find plans to make sure that the
- 31:48Speaker 1: work that we're doing is available to as many people
- 31:51Speaker 1: as possible, irregardless of their socioeconomic background. Yeah. Absolutely, And
- 31:56Speaker 1: it's funny. I think there's a lot of different platforms
- 31:58Speaker 1: out there, like clubhouse, et cetera, where everyone is basically
- 32:01Speaker 1: raising their flag as the expert, putting setting their charges
- 32:04Speaker 1: and prices at whatever level. So it's also up to
- 32:07Speaker 1: us as consumers to do the research and find someone
- 32:09Speaker 1: that you're properly connected to that like yourself, has done
- 32:13Speaker 1: the work, has the expertise has educated themselves over you know,
- 32:17Speaker 1: whatever amount of time they've been committed to being in
- 32:20Speaker 1: that industry. Devy, I feel like we haven't even approached
- 32:23Speaker 1: the tip of the iceberg with you, and I'm so
- 32:25Speaker 1: grateful for your time here today. Of course, Okay, Money Movers,

- 33:08Speaker 1: shout out to Tanya Sam, big shout out to the
- 33:10Speaker 1: Money Moves Podcast. Big shout out to the Big Homey
- 33:12Speaker 1: Killer Mike. It's really dope show that I hope you
- 33:15Speaker 1: guys will take some time to check out. You know,
- 33:17Speaker 1: they're really exploring the financial piece of our lives, you know,
- 33:22Speaker 1: financial literacy. Obviously, we realize how how how how how
- 33:27Speaker 1: important that is. But I'm really fascinated by the way
- 33:30Speaker 1: we each relate to money, the ways that we each
- 33:33Speaker 1: relate to success, and there's so many different pathways and
- 33:36Speaker 1: this show really explores that. So there's a bunch of
- 33:39Speaker 1: amazing people that are on this show, huge names, money names,
- 33:43Speaker 1: celebrity names, um, but all people that are making really
- 33:46Speaker 1: wise choices in their lives and expanding to all the generations,
- 33:52Speaker 1: all the lineage that will come from them. And that
- 33:55Speaker 1: is my intention to I want to access a level
- 33:58Speaker 1: of abundance in my life that will be more than legacy.
- 34:03Speaker 1: It will become myth. It will be an ethos that
- 34:06Speaker 1: will be a way of being UM for everyone in
- 34:09Speaker 1: my lineage that comes from me, and for anyone that
- 34:12Speaker 1: happens to connect with me. So that is my intention
- 34:15Speaker 1: for my life. That is my intention from my wallet abundance, abundance, abundance,
- 34:22Speaker 1: And you know, I just want to invite anyone to
- 34:25Speaker 1: spend some time exploring with yourself your relationship to money,
- 34:30Speaker 1: your relationship to abundance, and your relationship to the idea
- 34:34Speaker 1: of prosperity. And I know those three things have a
- 34:37Speaker 1: lot in common and they're often seen as interchangeable, but
- 34:40Speaker 1: they're very different things. They're very different pieces of our psyche,
- 34:44Speaker 1: very different pieces of perhaps healing that needs to take place,
- 34:48Speaker 1: um different pieces of our creativity. So, if you have time,
- 34:53Speaker 1: some soul work for this episode might be really just
- 34:57Speaker 1: taking a moment to jot down a couple of thoughts,
- 35:00Speaker 1: to close your eyes and just see where you land
- 35:03Speaker 1: and where it's felt in your body when you bring
- 35:05Speaker 1: the word money into your consciousness. So first start with money, wealth, dollars?
- 35:15Speaker 1: How do you relate to that? When did you start
- 35:18Speaker 1: relating to it in that way? How do you relate
- 35:22Speaker 1: to it now? The next piece would be inviting in
- 35:26Speaker 1: the word abundance and seeing where is their cross pollination
- 35:31Speaker 1: between abundance, that word and the word money, and where
- 35:35Speaker 1: can abundance just be experienced and felt on his own
- 35:39Speaker 1: and when it is, what does it feel like? What
- 35:42Speaker 1: does it look like? What does it sound like? What
- 35:46Speaker 1: is it to live an abundant life? And the next
- 35:50Speaker 1: word to consider would be prosperity prosperity? What is it
- 35:56Speaker 1: to prosper Do you have an aversion into prosperity? Do
- 36:01Speaker 1: you feel worthy of prosperity? Are you already living prosperity.
- 36:07Speaker 1: And again, there is never a right or wrong answer
- 36:10Speaker 1: to any of the questions we bring forward. It's really
- 36:13Speaker 1: just about observing what wants to emerge, what wants to
- 36:17Speaker 1: be known to me, what wants to be revealed, deepened.
- 36:21Speaker 1: So I hope you'll take a moment to do that.
- 36:23Speaker 1: Big love everyone, Thank you for joining me, and I
