A man with a violent past, including a childhood manslaughter conviction and multiple prison stints, is now facing murder charges in the fatal shooting of a Tucson police recruit just days before graduation. The suspect, Santiago Rogers, was arrested shortly after the home invasion that also wounded the recruit’s pregnant fiancée and their unborn child. Another armed suspect, Alex Barnett, surrendered after a standoff, while a third person remains at large.
