- 0:16July 7th, 2026. Welcome to season two of the
- 0:20Sacramento Brief. Let's get you caught up. A
- 0:23Sacramento County man has been sentenced to 40
- 0:26years to life in prison for a deadly shooting
- 0:28outside a Wingstop restaurant. Prosecutors say
- 0:31Ali Mohammed Hamid was sentenced July 1st after
- 0:35the jury convicted him of second -degree murder
- 0:37with firearms enhancement. The shooting happened
- 0:40in February of 2024 after prosecutors described
- 0:44a brief argument in a Wingstop parking lot. Investigators
- 0:49say Joseph Soto was walking towards the restaurant
- 0:51when Hamid fired a shot from his vehicle, striking
- 0:54Soto in his back. In another case from Sacramento
- 0:58County District Attorney's Office, Jimmy Syhathep
- 1:02has been convicted by a jury for carjacking,
- 1:06being a felon in possession of a firearm, evading
- 1:09officers, and hit and run. Prosecutors say Syhathep
- 1:13carjacked a driver at gunpoint in January of
- 1:162023. Traffic cameras later captured the stolen
- 1:19vehicle near Stockton Boulevard and Fruit Ridge
- 1:21Road. When officers attempted to traffic stop,
- 1:24Syhathep led them on a three -mile pursuit before
- 1:29abandoning the vehicle and running away. A sheriff's
- 1:32canine eventually apprehended him. Investigators
- 1:35say the firearm was recovered nearby with an
- 1:37extended magazine found in his possession. He
- 1:40now faces a sentence of 30 years in prison. Sentencing
- 1:44is scheduled for August 14th. In weather, Sacramento
- 1:48weather will be sunny skies with a high near
- 1:5088. Tonight will be clear with an overnight low
- 1:54around 56 degrees. In City Watch, Sacramento
- 1:57County scientists are helping cut the wait time
- 2:00for critical tuberculosis testing from weeks
- 2:03down to days. Sacramento County Public Health
- 2:06Laboratories has introduced D -Plex. and advanced
- 2:10DNA sequencing tests that can identify drug -resistant
- 2:13tuberculosis in as little as two days. Traditional
- 2:18testing can take several weeks. Public Health
- 2:22Laboratory Director Mark Pandory says fast results
- 2:27matter because tuberculosis remains a serious
- 2:30disease and some strains become resistant to
- 2:33medication. The new technology allows science
- 2:36to analyze the patient's sample and provide information
- 2:40that can give them treatment much sooner. The
- 2:44county says the laboratory already supports multiple
- 2:47Northern California communities with infectious
- 2:50disease testing, including outbreak response
- 2:53and testing for illnesses like TB. HIV, and measles.
- 2:58Health officials say the advancement strengthens
- 3:01the region's ability to respond quickly to serious
