- 0:08Speaker 1: Today. What's going on? Everybody?
- 0:09Speaker 2: Welcome into another episode of The check Odaily. It's Andrew
- 0:13Speaker 2: de Checko, Eagles beat reporter for Insidethebirds dot Com and
- 0:17Speaker 2: I am just outside of Foxborough.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I have arrived.
- 0:21Speaker 2: I'm ready for the next two days where the Eagles
- 0:24Speaker 2: and Patriots will hold joint practices at Gillette Stadium. I
- 0:28Speaker 2: couldn't be more excited. Might not sound it because I've
- 0:31Speaker 2: had a long drive and I am kind of tired,
- 0:34Speaker 2: but come tomorrow morning, it's gonna be.
- 0:38Speaker 1: It should be live, as they say, and so.
- 0:41Speaker 2: I was thinking a lot about the joint practices on
- 0:44Speaker 2: my ride up and some of the things that I'm
- 0:46Speaker 2: most looking forward to seeing, and that's what this podcast
- 0:49Speaker 2: today is going to be devoted to. We'll start with
- 0:53Speaker 2: the Eagles defensive backs versus the Patriots wide receivers, and
- 0:58Speaker 2: the Patriots have a reconfigured receiving corps led by AJ Brown,
- 1:04Speaker 2: but they also signed Romeo Dobbs, formerly of the Green
- 1:06Speaker 2: Bay Packers, to a pretty lucrative free agent deal. Kaishan
- 1:11Speaker 2: Boutet is there as well, So those three receivers will
- 1:15Speaker 2: be going up against Quinjai Mitchell, Cooper Dejen and Rieke Woollen.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Look, I've gotten asked this a bunch.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I'm not so sure that you're gonna see a lot
- 1:26Speaker 2: of sparks with AJ Brown and the Eagles defensive backs
- 1:30Speaker 2: in the way of scrappiness or anything like that. You
- 1:33Speaker 2: have to remember that AJ Brown is friends with Quinya
- 1:37Speaker 2: Mitchell and Cooper Degen. That's not to say that there
- 1:39Speaker 2: won't be some trash talking back and forth. But later on,
- 1:43Speaker 2: I'll give you my pre practice prediction for one player
- 1:49Speaker 2: on each side that I'm expecting maybe to go at
- 1:51Speaker 2: it just based off of their their past history.
- 1:55Speaker 1: And things like that.
- 1:56Speaker 2: But I don't know that AJ Brown is going to
- 1:58Speaker 2: be someone that is gonna mix it up with.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Quinyon and Coop.
- 2:02Speaker 2: But I do think that it should be spirited in
- 2:04Speaker 2: the way that there could be some back and forth
- 2:06Speaker 2: in terms of words. But AJ Brown, by all accounts,
- 2:10Speaker 2: has had a good training camp there establishing a rapport
- 2:13Speaker 2: with Drake may and that's going to be something to
- 2:17Speaker 2: keep an eye on.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Because AJ Brown knows Quinya Mitchell and Cooper de Gene
- 2:22Speaker 1: very well.
- 2:22Speaker 2: He's going to see a lot of Quenya Mitchell, but
- 2:24Speaker 2: Quinya Mitchell also knows AJ Brown pretty well and they
- 2:27Speaker 2: had some awesome battles over the past.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Couple of years at Eagles training camp.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Kind of like an iron sharpens iron, both players made
- 2:34Speaker 2: one another better.
- 2:36Speaker 1: But this is different. The stakes are a little bit higher.
- 2:39Speaker 2: It's going to be way more intense because this is
- 2:43Speaker 2: as close as you're going to get to a game setting.
- 2:47Speaker 2: This is where all of the starters are going to
- 2:49Speaker 2: get the most work of the preseason. They're not going
- 2:52Speaker 2: to play in the preseason, so joint practices are really
- 2:55Speaker 2: dedicated to getting them tuned up for the regular season.
- 2:59Speaker 2: So they're gonna probably all be on one field, and
- 3:03Speaker 2: you'll see a lot of the down the roster players,
- 3:05Speaker 2: the depth pieces on another field.
- 3:08Speaker 1: There'll be some.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Special teams drills intermixed and some one on ones which
- 3:12Speaker 2: I'm fascinated to see where Quinya Mitchell and AJ Brown.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Is gonna be must watch.
- 3:18Speaker 2: But also some of the offensive line and defensive line
- 3:21Speaker 2: battles will be certainly something that I will be chronicling.
- 3:24Speaker 2: I'll have all the notes on Inside the Birds dot
- 3:27Speaker 2: Com for you to read. I'll have a podcast that
- 3:30Speaker 2: I'll do. It's gonna be a little bit of an
- 3:31Speaker 2: abbreviated to check odaily. But you're also going to get
- 3:35Speaker 2: myself and Adam Kaplan. Adam will also be out here
- 3:39Speaker 2: and we're gonna do a podcast immediately after practice and
- 3:42Speaker 2: we'll have that up for you guys as soon as possible.
- 3:46Speaker 1: And yeah, this is going to be something that I'll
- 3:49Speaker 1: be watching.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Romeo Dobbs is an interesting player because he has good
- 3:53Speaker 2: body control, he has good size, and Drake May throws
- 3:57Speaker 2: a nice ball.
- 3:58Speaker 1: So they're time seems to be where you would expect
- 4:02Speaker 1: it to be. They've they've been.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Available all training camp, which certainly helps, and so that's
- 4:08Speaker 2: going to be something where this summer, Quinyon and Cooper
- 4:14Speaker 2: haven't really been challenged all that much because let's not
- 4:17Speaker 2: forget DeVante Smith has missed a ton of practices with
- 4:20Speaker 2: a hamstring injury. Makay Lemon of course has missed time
- 4:23Speaker 2: with the hamstring injury, so they haven't had the full
- 4:26Speaker 2: compment of wide receivers to really test the Eagles starting secondary,
- 4:31Speaker 2: which is where this becomes interesting. I think the battle
- 4:34Speaker 2: that I am also fascinated to see is Dobbs versus
- 4:37Speaker 2: Rieke Wollen, and Riek Wollen was the star of the
- 4:40Speaker 2: spring for the Eagles, but he's had a relatively quiet
- 4:43Speaker 2: training camp. There's been moments where he's gotten got on
- 4:47Speaker 2: some routes, and I think he needs to be a
- 4:50Speaker 2: little bit tighter in his in his coverage and in
- 4:54Speaker 2: and out of breaks. I think is where receivers some
- 4:56Speaker 2: of the quicker ones that are that are pretty shift
- 5:00Speaker 2: and explosive and have some juice. They're the ones that
- 5:02Speaker 2: I think have been able to create some mismatches with woman.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Not saying they've been beating him down the field, but
- 5:10Speaker 2: just in terms of creating separation. I think as a
- 5:12Speaker 2: bigger corner, those are some of the challenges that he's
- 5:15Speaker 2: going to have to face, which is why technique becomes.
- 5:18Speaker 1: All the more paramount.
- 5:20Speaker 2: So Dobbs and Rique Wohen is something that I have highlighted,
- 5:24Speaker 2: not as much as I have at the top of
- 5:26Speaker 2: the list, which is aj Brown and Cooper dejen But
- 5:30Speaker 2: then there's also Kaishan Bhute who's kind of flying under
- 5:33Speaker 2: the radar a little bit. He's likely going to see
- 5:35Speaker 2: a lot of Cooper Dejeen. Same with the Mario Douglas,
- 5:39Speaker 2: another player who is a really effective chain mover, not
- 5:42Speaker 2: an explosive or dynamic player by any stretch, But I imagine
- 5:45Speaker 2: that those two guys are going to see a lot
- 5:47Speaker 2: of Cooper dejen The interior offensive line play is going
- 5:53Speaker 2: to be something that I am very fascinated to watch
- 5:56Speaker 2: unfold the interior for the Patriots, they have left guard
- 5:59Speaker 2: Elijah Vera Tucker, center Jared Wilson, and right guard Mike
- 6:02Speaker 2: goe on Weenu and so I think Moro Jomo mentioned
- 6:07Speaker 2: that he went against Onenu a lot when they played
- 6:12Speaker 2: in twenty twenty four when the Eagles were last up here.
- 6:15Speaker 2: But this is going to be a fascinating matchup because
- 6:18Speaker 2: Jalen Carter, Moro Jomo, and Jordan Davis have been absolute
- 6:22Speaker 2: game wreckers this summer.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I've been really impressed with a Jomo.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Needless to say, Jayalen Carter has been as advertised, but
- 6:30Speaker 2: a Jomo is just such a fun player to watch
- 6:32Speaker 2: because of the way that he wins despite not having
- 6:35Speaker 2: the size that you expect to see from a defensive tackle.
- 6:39Speaker 1: He is a feisty player, he's strong, he's violent, and.
- 6:43Speaker 2: You couple that with Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis against
- 6:46Speaker 2: that interior, that should be something that will be especially
- 6:51Speaker 2: compelling to watch, especially during the one on ones. But
- 6:56Speaker 2: the interior for the Eagles have been a strength in camp,
- 6:59Speaker 2: and I want to see how they fare and stack
- 7:01Speaker 2: up against the Patriots interior offensive line. This is more
- 7:06Speaker 2: of a general storyline that I'll be monitoring, and that
- 7:09Speaker 2: is just the Eagles passing game because it's been improved
- 7:15Speaker 2: over the.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Last week or so.
- 7:17Speaker 2: The Jalen Hurts has been getting the ball out quicker,
- 7:19Speaker 2: but there hasn't been a lot of explosive plays. It's
- 7:22Speaker 2: been more effective, efficient short to intermediate completions, keeping the
- 7:26Speaker 2: offense on schedule, much like you can expect to see
- 7:29Speaker 2: in a true West Coast offense, which is exactly what
- 7:32Speaker 2: the Eagles.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Are aiming for.
- 7:34Speaker 2: But the Patriots have a secondary led by none other
- 7:39Speaker 2: than Christian Gonzales at corner. They also have Carlton Davis
- 7:42Speaker 2: Marcus Jones as a nickel.
- 7:45Speaker 1: He's also a.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Really good return man for them. Craig Woodson is a
- 7:49Speaker 2: really underrated safety. He's their strong safety and they have
- 7:53Speaker 2: the players to match up with the Eagles, And we'll
- 7:58Speaker 2: have to wait and see if they're gonna even have
- 7:59Speaker 2: Mikayla available, but if not, then that then thrust either
- 8:04Speaker 2: Hollywood Brown or Elijah Moore or a combination of the two.
- 8:07Speaker 2: As the third receiver. Darius Cooper will get some work.
- 8:11Speaker 3: But as I've gotten older, I've really tried to concentrate
- 8:14Speaker 3: on my physical health, my body, making sure I'm putting
- 8:18Speaker 3: the right things in and the healthiest things in. I've
- 8:20Speaker 3: always heard about creatine, but I wasn't really sure about
- 8:24Speaker 3: using creatine supplements until I did the research to find
- 8:27Speaker 3: out what it was really all about. That's when I
- 8:29Speaker 3: found Momentous, which created Signature spec Creatine, their most advanced
- 8:35Speaker 3: creatine ever, setting a new standard for creatine quality. It's
- 8:40Speaker 3: one of the only creatines to be manufactured in a
- 8:42Speaker 3: pharmaceutical facility using reverse osmosis water purification and verified through
- 8:48Speaker 3: an expanded six stage testing process with four independent agencies.
- 8:52Speaker 4: They've improved the product.
- 8:54Speaker 5: Experience with ultrafying powder that mixes effortlessly with no grit
- 8:59Speaker 5: or clump.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Hey.
- 9:00Speaker 5: Look, I like a good creatine shake in the afternoon,
- 9:03Speaker 5: and it's got to taste good and be smooth.
- 9:05Speaker 3: The benefits of creatine are very real. It supports strength, power,
- 9:10Speaker 3: lean muscle growth, recovery, and even improve cognitive performance, and
- 9:14Speaker 3: as I get older, all of those things are so
- 9:16Speaker 3: much more important to me than they used to be.
- 9:19Speaker 3: If you want to try Momentous signature spect creatine, head
- 9:22Speaker 3: to livemomentous dot com and use code birds for up
- 9:26Speaker 3: to thirty five percent off your entire first order.
- 9:30Speaker 5: That's livemomentous dot com promo code birds for up to
- 9:34Speaker 5: thirty five percent off livemomentous dot Com promo code birds.
- 9:39Speaker 3: I know how I feel when I wake up in
- 9:41Speaker 3: the morning. I have so many things on my mind.
- 9:44Speaker 3: I can't get any of this done until I have
- 9:46Speaker 3: my first cup of coffee. I know a lot of
- 9:48Speaker 3: you feel the same way. You either need that coffee,
- 9:51Speaker 3: that nicotine pouch, maybe even energy drink to get yourself
- 9:55Speaker 3: through the day. We go to these great lengths to
- 9:58Speaker 3: stay healthy, whether it's going to the gym or trying
- 10:01Speaker 3: to get the right amount of sleep, eating better. Then
- 10:03Speaker 3: we'll put these chemicals in our body just to make
- 10:05Speaker 3: it through the day. But I've been using ultrapouches for
- 10:08Speaker 3: a long time, and let me tell you it's a
- 10:09Speaker 3: game changer for focus and energy. First off, they're completely

- 11:18Speaker 3: Please support our show and tell him inside the birds
- 11:21Speaker 3: sent you.
- 11:22Speaker 2: This is something that Yeah, DeVante Smith returned the other
- 11:27Speaker 2: day Monday in a limited capacity. I imagine he's going
- 11:32Speaker 2: to be full go for these practices. We'll have to
- 11:34Speaker 2: wait and see on that. But apart from that, this
- 11:36Speaker 2: will be a really good test to see where Dontavian
- 11:39Speaker 2: Wicks is in this offense and if he's able to
- 11:43Speaker 2: elevate his performance because a lot's going to be expected
- 11:46Speaker 2: of him this season. He didn't dress on Saturday. The
- 11:49Speaker 2: Eagles have high expectations for him. He's going to have
- 11:51Speaker 2: a pivotal role in the offense, and I think this
- 11:54Speaker 2: will be the really first true measuring stick that we'll
- 11:57Speaker 2: get to see Dontavian Wicks matched up against a pretty
- 12:00Speaker 2: decent secondary And the timing between Hertz and Wicks has
- 12:05Speaker 2: been something that I've noted throughout training camp.
- 12:08Speaker 1: It's developing nicely.
- 12:10Speaker 2: They have a budding chemistry there that's pretty apparent, but
- 12:14Speaker 2: now you want to see how does it manifest against
- 12:19Speaker 2: another team, because sometimes, for clarity purposes, you watch the
- 12:23Speaker 2: same matchups day after day in training camp, and.
- 12:27Speaker 1: You maybe lose a lot.
- 12:28Speaker 2: It's fair that to say that you might lose sight
- 12:31Speaker 2: of what's what because they're going against the same players,
- 12:36Speaker 2: and you know, sometimes there's a little redundancy there, which
- 12:39Speaker 2: is why this is hugely critical to shake things up,
- 12:42Speaker 2: get to the joint practice and see how they stack
- 12:44Speaker 2: up against other talent. And this is a talented team,
- 12:48Speaker 2: a pretty solid defense, and this will be a pretty
- 12:52Speaker 2: good gauge as to where the Eagles are from a
- 12:54Speaker 2: passing game standpoint, which is why Jalen Hurt was to say,
- 13:00Speaker 2: as the quarterback that somebody you're always gonna watch, but
- 13:03Speaker 2: I want to see just the overall efficiency of the operation.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Is it clean?
- 13:07Speaker 2: Are they getting the ball out on time? Are the
- 13:10Speaker 2: receivers able to make plays and help their quarterback? Are
- 13:12Speaker 2: they able to separate or is it going to be
- 13:15Speaker 2: something where it's a little clunky. It's a parent that
- 13:20Speaker 2: they're unveiling something new, but it's gonna take a little
- 13:24Speaker 2: bit of time.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Like I want to see where they are. I want
- 13:27Speaker 1: to see where they are, and this is going to
- 13:29Speaker 1: be a really good test for that.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Let's also not forget that the Patriots have a pretty
- 13:35Speaker 2: good defensive.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Line that could bear down and provide some pressure there.
- 13:38Speaker 2: I mentioned the secondary, but they also have Milton Williams,
- 13:40Speaker 2: Christian barrymore, Harold Landry off the edge, Draymond Jones is
- 13:45Speaker 2: there and so they're from all three levels. They have
- 13:50Speaker 2: enough there that it could make things a little bit challenging.
- 13:55Speaker 2: But I also think that the Eagles are starting to
- 13:58Speaker 2: build something.
- 13:59Speaker 1: It's been gradual offensively.
- 14:01Speaker 2: But as I've noted, it is something that you can
- 14:05Speaker 2: see and improvement that you know almost almost daily.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Now.
- 14:09Speaker 2: They had a sloppier practice on Monday, So I want
- 14:12Speaker 2: to see if they can sort of flip the script
- 14:14Speaker 2: there and approach it a little bit differently. They're going
- 14:17Speaker 2: to have to. I imagine that you're going to see
- 14:19Speaker 2: a really intense set of joint practices and the offense
- 14:25Speaker 2: is going to look to to sort of build some
- 14:29Speaker 2: consistency there. And Sean manny into that end, this is
- 14:33Speaker 2: a big couple days for him, I thought he while
- 14:37Speaker 2: the offense didn't perform anything close to the Eagle standard,
- 14:41Speaker 2: I thought that from a procedural standpoint, they did some
- 14:44Speaker 2: good things getting in and out of the huddle. They
- 14:46Speaker 2: weren't up against the playclock, it wasn't clunky in that regard.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Just from an execution standpoint, it was not where they
- 14:52Speaker 2: need to be. So how does the execution look at
- 14:55Speaker 2: one Wednesday and on Thursday, where the stakes are a
- 14:58Speaker 2: little bit higher and you have your start out there.
- 15:00Speaker 1: That'll be something that I think is easy.
- 15:03Speaker 2: It's more you're not grading on a curve like you
- 15:07Speaker 2: would be in the preseason. This is more of a
- 15:11Speaker 2: looking to get answers to the test, and so that
- 15:14Speaker 2: will be a really big one.
- 15:15Speaker 4: And nobody loves grilling more than me.
- 15:19Speaker 5: Could be thirty degrees and I'll be out there grilling
- 15:21Speaker 5: burgers and steaks. But the one thing that I really
- 15:25Speaker 5: can't stand is losing my fish and my veggies because
- 15:28Speaker 5: they just can't grill without falling through. That's why I've
- 15:31Speaker 5: been using x clads. BBQ Collection it's bringing hybrid technology

- 16:03Speaker 5: or seafood, or if you're cooking multiple portions at one time.
- 16:06Speaker 4: Last week, I grilled the.
- 16:08Speaker 5: Best surf and turf my style, which is salmon and ribs,

- 18:04Speaker 1: Brown.
- 18:05Speaker 2: It seems like a lot of the a lot of
- 18:07Speaker 2: fans expect that AJ is gonna, you know, is gonna
- 18:11Speaker 2: mix it up with some Eagles. I mean that very
- 18:13Speaker 2: well may be the case. I am not I don't
- 18:16Speaker 2: foresee that because I know that he has some relationships there.
- 18:19Speaker 2: That's not to say that he's not gonna have his
- 18:21Speaker 2: emotions high. And you know the heat also factors into it.
- 18:26Speaker 2: It just kind of brings out extra emotion and it
- 18:30Speaker 2: revs up your intensity all that much more. But I'm
- 18:34Speaker 2: gonna go with the trenches. One player on the trenches
- 18:37Speaker 2: for the Eagles, Tyler Steen. Tyler Steen has never been
- 18:41Speaker 2: one to shy away from scrapping. He had one earlier
- 18:45Speaker 2: and a dust up earlier in training camp with ty
- 18:48Speaker 2: Ty Robinson where he kind of mauled him off the
- 18:51Speaker 2: line and laid on top of him. Tyler Stein's a
- 18:54Speaker 2: take He's a quiet guy, but he's also a take
- 18:57Speaker 2: no nonsense kind of guy as well. He's likely going
- 18:59Speaker 2: to see a lot of reps. I don't think that
- 19:01Speaker 2: he's going to be a player that the Eagles spell
- 19:05Speaker 2: on any occasion, much like they would for maybe Lane
- 19:08Speaker 2: Johnson or Landon Dickerson. So I think Tyler Stein's going
- 19:12Speaker 2: to see a ton of snaps over these next couple
- 19:14Speaker 2: of days. And if I had to pick a player
- 19:17Speaker 2: on the Patriots side just based off of watching him play,
- 19:20Speaker 2: he's had some hits.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I'd look at the one that he had on Jackson
- 19:23Speaker 1: Dart and that's.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Linebacker and former Eagle Christian Ellis, who plays really with
- 19:30Speaker 2: his hair on fire.
- 19:32Speaker 1: He throws his body around.
- 19:34Speaker 2: He's sort of like a heat seeking missile when he's
- 19:36Speaker 2: coming downhill. And if Tyler Stein gets a chance to
- 19:39Speaker 2: get to the second level, if this is sort of
- 19:41Speaker 2: a if this becomes a back and forth through practice
- 19:44Speaker 2: where Christianellis is pushing it to the limit a little bit,
- 19:47Speaker 2: I think, if I had to guess, Stein would be
- 19:50Speaker 2: the guy who sets the tone there and maybe pours
- 19:55Speaker 2: cold water on the energy that christianelle is putting forth.
- 20:01Speaker 2: But that's just kind of my early feel for it.
- 20:05Speaker 2: A lot can change sometimes pregame warm ups or not
- 20:08Speaker 2: pregame pre practice warm ups, you can kind of see
- 20:11Speaker 2: who's who's feeling it that day, who's chirping a little bit,
- 20:16Speaker 2: and that maybe gives you a better read on the
- 20:18Speaker 2: way that it could go. But I do think that
- 20:21Speaker 2: you're going to see something. It's two days a lot
- 20:24Speaker 2: the starters are going to be going. The Eagles had
- 20:26Speaker 2: that fight last Thursday with Moro Jomo and Fred Johnson.
- 20:30Speaker 2: They had a little dust up earlier that week which
- 20:33Speaker 2: was Tyler Stein and ty Robinson, So it just feels
- 20:36Speaker 2: like this is the point of the season of the summer,
- 20:39Speaker 2: I should say, where you're in the dog days, you
- 20:42Speaker 2: get to go against another team, your eyes are probably wide,
- 20:45Speaker 2: you're probably chomping at the bit to get out there.
- 20:48Speaker 2: And this is the most work that they're going to get,
- 20:50Speaker 2: the most quality work that they're going to get, and
- 20:54Speaker 2: because of that, the intensity ratchets up all that much more.
- 20:58Speaker 1: So.
- 21:00Speaker 2: There's plenty more for you on the Inside the Birds platform,
- 21:02Speaker 2: including the podcast that I refer to earlier, where it'll
- 21:05Speaker 2: be myself and Adam Kaplan will have that. Tomorrow I'll
- 21:08Speaker 2: do the Checkodaily, where I focus on something in particular.
- 21:11Speaker 2: It's not gonna be a long podcast, but I'll have
- 21:14Speaker 2: something for you as well individually, and of course my
- 21:17Speaker 2: observations as always will be on Inside the Birds dot com.
- 21:20Speaker 2: So be sure to keep your eyes out for all
- 21:23Speaker 2: the things that will have come in your way.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Tomorrow.
- 21:25Speaker 2: I cannot wait, and we'll have that and I'll just
- 21:30Speaker 2: stay tuned. But for now, that's going to do it
- 21:32Speaker 2: for this episode of The Checko Daily. I'm Andrew de
- 21:35Speaker 2: Checko and I'll catch you all on the next one.
