- 0:16Speaker 1: really interesting about Coach Summerall's press conference that happened this morning.
- 0:20Speaker 1: So Florida's 4-0. They just beat a top five Ole
- 0:23Speaker 1: Miss team, 52-28. They're sitting in the top 10. People
- 0:27Speaker 1: are talking about Florida nationally again. And Summerall sounded like
- 0:31Speaker 1: a guy who was almost annoyed that anybody wanted to
- 0:34Speaker 1: talk about what happened Saturday. Not because he wasn't happy,
- 0:37Speaker 1: because he was, but because in his mind, the game's
- 0:40Speaker 1: already over. And I think that tells you a lot
- 0:43Speaker 1: about where this Florida team is right now. And today
- 0:47Speaker 1: I want to talk about Coach Summerall and what he
- 0:49Speaker 1: learned about his football team against Ole Miss. But then
- 0:52Speaker 1: maybe more importantly, what he thinks this group still has
- 0:55Speaker 1: to do moving forward. If you listened to him closely today,
- 0:59Speaker 1: this really wasn't a press conference about celebrating. It was
- 1:02Speaker 1: more about moving on. Summerall basically said he doesn't want
- 1:05Speaker 1: anybody in the building talking about the Ole Miss game anymore.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Not next week, not next month, not until the season's over.
- 1:11Speaker 1: His message was, yeah, it happened. It's done. You can't
- 1:15Speaker 1: control it anymore, so go ahead and move on. And
- 1:17Speaker 1: that might be one of the most important things he
- 1:20Speaker 1: can get across to this team right now. Because in
- 1:23Speaker 1: the first games of the year, Florida did well. So
- 1:28Speaker 1: now they're having to deal with some success that they
- 1:32Speaker 1: really haven't had to deal with much up until now.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Up until this moment, Florida was kind of chasing something.
- 1:39Speaker 1: They were trying to prove that they were different. They
- 1:41Speaker 1: were not previous year's teams. They were trying to prove
- 1:44Speaker 1: that the off-season work that they put in mattered. They
- 1:48Speaker 1: were trying to prove that Coach Summerall could turn this
- 1:50Speaker 1: thing around quickly. Well, now people believe them, and that
- 1:54Speaker 1: creates a totally different type of challenge. Summerall said it
- 1:58Speaker 1: pretty bluntly today. You have to humble yourself or somebody
- 2:01Speaker 1: else is going to humble you. We're going to take
- 2:03Speaker 1: a quick break from this video to give some love
- 2:04Speaker 1: to our partners over at Alumni Hall. Guys, don't forget,
- 2:07Speaker 1: they have given us an awesome discount code. It is PEAK15, P-E-E-K-1-5.

- 2:20Speaker 1: located on Archer Road in Gainesville. So if you're in
- 2:22Speaker 1: town for a game, Make sure you stop by. Make
- 2:25Speaker 1: sure you tell them Allie sent you. Or you can
- 2:27Speaker 1: get the best brands online as well. Nike, Peter Millar,
- 2:30Speaker 1: Cutter & Buck, Jordan, everything you're looking for. A big
- 2:33Speaker 1: thank you to Alumni Hall. We appreciate all their support.
- 2:35Speaker 1: He said if Florida isn't willing to look at what
- 2:38Speaker 1: it does poorly, another team's just going to go ahead
- 2:41Speaker 1: and expose it. And I think that's where we start
- 2:44Speaker 1: to learn what he has learned about this group. Number one,
- 2:49Speaker 1: he has learned that his team is tough. I don't
- 2:51Speaker 1: mean just physically, although they are physically tough. I mean emotionally.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Florida has had multiple opportunities against Ole Miss to lose
- 2:59Speaker 1: control of that game. You know, Ole Miss made plays.
- 3:03Speaker 1: There were moments when things could have tightened up, but
- 3:05Speaker 1: Florida responded. That's something that Coach Summerall clearly trusts now.
- 3:09Speaker 1: You can hear it when he talks about quarterback Aaron Filo.
- 3:12Speaker 1: He said Filo has shown himself to be consistent and tough, dependable, reliable,
- 3:17Speaker 1: and he emphasized that he really likes– A lot of
- 3:21Speaker 1: things about him, but what he likes most isn't his
- 3:25Speaker 1: arm or his ability to extend plays. It's everything that
- 3:28Speaker 1: happens around it. It's how he competes. It's how he
- 3:31Speaker 1: carries himself. It's how he celebrates with his teammates. It's
- 3:34Speaker 1: how he responds. All of that is really important in
- 3:38Speaker 1: your quarterback. And I think that's a huge development here.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Going into the season, there was some uncertainty at that position.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Summerall admitted today that when Aaron came in, he really
- 3:47Speaker 1: had to kind of trust Buster Faulkner's evaluation to some degree.
- 3:51Speaker 1: He said he knew who Philo was. He just didn't
- 3:53Speaker 1: really know him personally yet. Four games later, now he does.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Now he knows what he has. He has a quarterback
- 4:00Speaker 1: who he can ask to win in different ways. And
- 4:02Speaker 1: I don't think that should be overlooked. That changes what
- 4:05Speaker 1: a coaching staff can do. If you trust your quarterback,
- 4:08Speaker 1: you can adjust. You can lean on the run game
- 4:10Speaker 1: one week. You could ask him to make big throws
- 4:12Speaker 1: another week. You can go on the road and know
- 4:15Speaker 1: he isn't going to completely lose his mind if the
- 4:16Speaker 1: crowd gets loud or if something goes wrong, because it will.
- 4:20Speaker 1: That Auburn game helped build that trust, Ole Miss added
- 4:23Speaker 1: to it. And now Missouri is going to test it again.
- 4:26Speaker 1: The second thing Summerall learned, the offensive line is becoming
- 4:29Speaker 1: a strength. That's not something I'm sure many people would
- 4:32Speaker 1: have confidently said before the season. But listen to the numbers.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Four games, only 14 negative yardage plays, only two sacks
- 4:40Speaker 1: allowed through four games. And Florida just ran for more
- 4:42Speaker 1: than 300 yards against Ole Miss. Summerall gave Buster Faulkner
- 4:47Speaker 1: and Phil Troutwine a lot of credit today. But he
- 4:49Speaker 1: also talked about the mindset of the group as a whole.
- 4:52Speaker 1: He said they're consistently in the right spots. They're doing
- 4:56Speaker 1: their jobs. They aren't blowing assignments. And the backs are
- 4:59Speaker 1: going forward. That's a mindset of moving the pile. And
- 5:04Speaker 1: that's important because this offensive line isn't just surviving anymore.
- 5:09Speaker 1: It's helping define what Florida is. And Summerall talked later
- 5:13Speaker 1: about the guys in the middle of that line and
- 5:14Speaker 1: how much extra work that they have put in. He
- 5:17Speaker 1: told a story about being in his office during the
- 5:19Speaker 1: summer and seeing Harrison and TJ outside in the afternoon
- 5:22Speaker 1: working on snaps, zone footwork, details. Nobody made them do it.
- 5:27Speaker 1: They just kept doing extra. And Summerall said this group
- 5:30Speaker 1: has taken ownership when coaches have called them out. They're accountable.
- 5:34Speaker 1: They've grown. And now some of those newer players are
- 5:37Speaker 1: actually starting to lead. That tells you the development isn't
- 5:40Speaker 1: just physical. It's cultural. That is probably one of the
- 5:44Speaker 1: biggest things Summerall has learned through four weeks. He doesn't
- 5:47Speaker 1: have to drag everybody along anymore. Some of these guys
- 5:50Speaker 1: are starting to pull each other. That matters. And this
- 5:54Speaker 1: might be the most important part. Summerall still doesn't think
- 5:57Speaker 1: this team is finished. Actually, not even close. He said
- 6:00Speaker 1: the run game can still improve. He said there are
- 6:02Speaker 1: still runs that Florida can hit better. He said the
- 6:05Speaker 1: secondary still has highs and lows. He talked specifically about
- 6:08Speaker 1: Cormani being incredibly talented but needing more consistency and to
- 6:12Speaker 1: be more detailed. He talked about Ben Hanks taking a
- 6:15Speaker 1: step forward. He talked about Javari continuing to grow. He
- 6:19Speaker 1: talked about Didi needing better awareness in a couple spots.
- 6:23Speaker 1: And that's another thing that I liked about today. He
- 6:27Speaker 1: wasn't pretending that 52-28 meant everything is perfect because it
- 6:30Speaker 1: was not. Florida gave up plays. There were breakdowns. There
- 6:34Speaker 1: were things on tape Summerall clearly did not like. In fact,
- 6:38Speaker 1: he told the team this morning... about the things they
- 6:41Speaker 1: didn't like. He showed them the bad tape, not the
- 6:44Speaker 1: ranking or the highlights or the celebrations, the mistakes. And
- 6:48Speaker 1: that was really intentional. Florida's biggest opponent this week may
- 6:51Speaker 1: not actually be Missouri. It might actually be success. And
- 6:56Speaker 1: I know that sounds incredibly dramatic, but think about this.
- 6:59Speaker 1: These are young guys. Summerall pointed that out today. A
- 7:01Speaker 1: lot of Florida's best players and best leaders are still
- 7:05Speaker 1: very young. VB3 is a second-year player. Jaden Woods is
- 7:08Speaker 1: a second-year player. There are players in the room who
- 7:12Speaker 1: don't even really understand Florida's recent history at Missouri because
- 7:16Speaker 1: they haven't been around long enough to experience it. And
- 7:19Speaker 1: now those guys are getting told how great they are.
- 7:22Speaker 1: That can be difficult. Everybody's praising them. Everybody's talking about
- 7:25Speaker 1: them being in the top 10. They're talking about playoff possibilities.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Summerall's trying to kill all of that inside the building.
- 7:31Speaker 1: His message is basically, none of that matters. What matters
- 7:34Speaker 1: is Tuesday. And I love the way he described Tuesday.
- 7:38Speaker 1: He called it Bloody Tuesday. He said tomorrow they go outside,
- 7:41Speaker 1: they get physical, they pay the toll. They get dirt
- 7:44Speaker 1: under their fingernails. And he said that's when he knows
- 7:47Speaker 1: whether the team has really turned the page or not.
- 7:49Speaker 1: If they show up ready to work, good. If they
- 7:52Speaker 1: show up thinking they can just roll their helmets out
- 7:55Speaker 1: there because they're ranked in the top 10, he might
- 7:57Speaker 1: be concerned. And that might be the most John Summerall
- 8:00Speaker 1: thing ever. No ceremony, no speech about being number eight.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Show me how you practice Tuesday. That's the test. And
- 8:07Speaker 1: then that leads directly into Missouri, because I think the
- 8:09Speaker 1: next thing Sarmal learned about this team is that it
- 8:12Speaker 1: can play with an edge. Now, the question is whether
- 8:15Speaker 1: it can keep that edge when everybody is patting him
- 8:17Speaker 1: on the back. Missouri is going to be a really
- 8:20Speaker 1: good test for that. Sarmal was very clear today that
- 8:22Speaker 1: he respects the way Missouri plays. He called their offensive
- 8:26Speaker 1: line the best that Florida's seen so far. He said
- 8:28Speaker 1: they are one of the better outside zone teams in
- 8:30Speaker 1: college football. He talked about their physicality and their toughness,
- 8:34Speaker 1: their identity up front. And he said Florida is going
- 8:37Speaker 1: to have its work cut out for it at the
- 8:38Speaker 1: line of scrimmage. That is a very different challenge from
- 8:41Speaker 1: Ole Miss. And I think that's where we go from here.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Florida is going to find out if the things that
- 8:47Speaker 1: worked in September are really enough to keep working when
- 8:50Speaker 1: the circumstances change. Can the offensive line hold up against
- 8:53Speaker 1: the best front they've seen? Can Florida continue to run
- 8:56Speaker 1: the ball efficiently? Can Philo keep showing the same poise
- 8:59Speaker 1: on the road? Can the defense be more consistent? Can
- 9:02Speaker 1: the secondary avoid giving away plays? Can special teams continue
- 9:06Speaker 1: to flip field position? And speaking of special teams, Sermal
- 9:09Speaker 1: gave Jonathan Galante a ton of credit today. He talked
- 9:12Speaker 1: about London Montgomery's kickoff return. He talked about Alec Clark's
- 9:16Speaker 1: 70-yard punt. He talked about how intentional Florida is with
- 9:19Speaker 1: personnel on special teams. And maybe most importantly, he explained
- 9:23Speaker 1: that the entire staff coaches special teams periods, not just Galante, everybody.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Summerall said players know what matters based on how much
- 9:31Speaker 1: attention the coaches give it. And when the whole staff
- 9:33Speaker 1: is coaching special teams, the team feels the importance of that.
- 9:37Speaker 1: And that tells you why it looks different. Special teams
- 9:40Speaker 1: aren't filler. They're part of Florida's identity now. And Summerall
- 9:43Speaker 1: has now seen enough to know that they can actually
- 9:45Speaker 1: win games there. That's something else they've learned. This team
- 9:48Speaker 1: doesn't have to win just one way. That might be
- 9:50Speaker 1: the biggest takeaway from the first four games. Florida can
- 9:53Speaker 1: win with the run game. They can win with Philo
- 9:55Speaker 1: making throws. Florida can flip a field. on special teams.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Florida can create turnovers. They can lean on the offensive line.
- 10:03Speaker 1: That versatility gives this team options. And good teams need
- 10:07Speaker 1: that because eventually somebody is going to take one thing away.
- 10:11Speaker 1: So what do you do then? Florida is starting to
- 10:13Speaker 1: have answers. But again, Summerall isn't letting them act like
- 10:16Speaker 1: they've accomplished anything. He's made one comment today that probably
- 10:20Speaker 1: tells you exactly how he views this whole season so far.
- 10:23Speaker 1: He said rankings between games four and five mean absolutely nothing,
- 10:28Speaker 1: that nobody hangs a banner for that, nobody celebrates that.
- 10:31Speaker 1: The only ranking that matters is the one you have
- 10:33Speaker 1: at the end. That's his mentality, and I think that's
- 10:36Speaker 1: exactly what this team needs. Florida has done enough to
- 10:39Speaker 1: earn attention. They have not done enough to relax, and
- 10:43Speaker 1: there's a huge difference there. Ole Miss told Summerall a
- 10:46Speaker 1: lot about his football team. It told him they can
- 10:48Speaker 1: handle a big stage and they can handle being physical.
- 10:51Speaker 1: And it told him that the offensive line has grown
- 10:53Speaker 1: and that his quarterback can be trusted. It told him
- 10:56Speaker 1: special teams can legitimately change a game. It told him
- 10:59Speaker 1: his team has toughness. But now he wants to learn
- 11:02Speaker 1: something else. Can they handle praise? Can they move on?
- 11:06Speaker 1: Can they go on the road after the biggest win
- 11:08Speaker 1: of the season and play with the same edge? Summerall
- 11:11Speaker 1: has already said that recent history at Missouri isn't good.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Florida has lost three of its last four trips there,
- 11:17Speaker 1: and he made it clear today that if anybody thinks
- 11:19Speaker 1: this is going to be easy, they are in for
- 11:21Speaker 1: a rude awakening. So this week is different. Ole Miss
- 11:25Speaker 1: was about proving Florida could play with a top-five team.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Missouri is about proving Florida can handle being the team
- 11:30Speaker 1: that everybody expects to win. That is a different kind
- 11:34Speaker 1: of pressure, and it may tell us just as much
- 11:37Speaker 1: as last week's game. Good teams can rise up for
- 11:40Speaker 1: huge games. Great teams learn how to come back the
- 11:43Speaker 1: next week and do it again. That is where Florida
- 11:46Speaker 1: is now. So no more celebrating Ole Miss, no more
- 11:49Speaker 1: talking about number eight, no more worrying about what people
- 11:53Speaker 1: are saying nationally. Summerall's message could not be clearer. Be
- 11:58Speaker 1: where your feet are, pay the toll, stay hungry, and
- 12:02Speaker 1: get ready for Missouri. Florida learned a lot about itself
- 12:05Speaker 1: on Saturday, but now we get to find out whether
- 12:08Speaker 1: they can do something with that. Let me know what
- 12:11Speaker 1: you guys think. What was the biggest thing that you
- 12:13Speaker 1: learned about this Florida team against Ole Miss? And what
- 12:16Speaker 1: do you want to see from them against Missouri that
- 12:18Speaker 1: tells you that this team is really ready to take
- 12:20Speaker 1: that next step? Let me know down in the comments.
