- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering one piece episodes eight thirty two and eight thirty three.
- 0:15Speaker 1: A Deadly Kiss, The Mission to Assassinate the Emperor kicks
- 0:20Speaker 1: off and returning the Sackey cup. The manly Jimbei pays
- 0:25Speaker 1: his debt in these episodes. It's time for Now you
- 0:33Speaker 1: may kiss the bride, and now you may shoot the groom.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Except she doesn't. She doesn't shoot the groom. Oh my,
- 0:43Speaker 1: what's happening? Maybe he has won her over. Welcome to
- 0:50Speaker 1: spoil Me. Welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Thank you very much to Florian for commissioning this episode.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Florian is here in the chat with me. Lovely to
- 1:18Speaker 1: see you, Florian, and I do want to mention that
- 1:22Speaker 1: I am at the end of my spreadsheet almost there's
- 1:25Speaker 1: like one further, so if you could send me a
- 1:27Speaker 1: new one, I would appreciate it. I also want to
- 1:31Speaker 1: let folks know that if you come to the Lives,
- 1:34Speaker 1: I will be changing up where they are held soon.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I'm hoping by the end of this year to be
- 1:40Speaker 1: transitioning fully to doing the Lives on Patreon versus on crowdcast.
- 1:46Speaker 1: So if you are somebody who wants to get access
- 1:51Speaker 1: to those, you just have to become a patron. You
- 1:54Speaker 1: don't have to pay money. Patreon now has a possibility
- 1:58Speaker 1: to be a free member, and I will make all
- 2:01Speaker 1: of these available to free members. You just need to
- 2:05Speaker 1: sign up to you know, Patreon itself with me, but
- 2:09Speaker 1: you do not have to actually pledge money. So just
- 2:13Speaker 1: want to give everybody heads up so that they can
- 2:15Speaker 1: appropriately plan ahead. Oh, Florian says, it will be the
- 2:22Speaker 1: last of this year. Next one after the one next
- 2:26Speaker 1: week will be in January. Okay, well then probably the
- 2:30Speaker 1: next one I will do on crowdcast still, and the
- 2:33Speaker 1: one in January I will do on a Patreon. I'll
- 2:37Speaker 1: make it a little bit more specific since we have
- 2:40Speaker 1: that schedule in place. Anyway, thank you, Florian, appreciate that.
- 2:46Speaker 1: So these episodes are very, very fun. I was actually
- 2:50Speaker 1: really pleasantly surprised, because y'all know, like it's it can be.
- 2:56Speaker 1: It can be so so drawn out sometimes that there
- 3:02Speaker 1: are times where I will realize I didn't even like
- 3:06Speaker 1: kind of clock it initially, but I will go into
- 3:10Speaker 1: an episode and I will suddenly realize, oh, I was
- 3:12Speaker 1: waiting for this to take too long. I was anticipating
- 3:17Speaker 1: that this was going to go on for a couple
- 3:19Speaker 1: of episodes, and I cannot tell you all how genuinely
- 3:25Speaker 1: shocked I was that now you may kiss the bride
- 3:30Speaker 1: and the fallout afterwards actually happen in these two episodes.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I really thought that the wedding itself wants like he's
- 3:41Speaker 1: going up to the altar and they are beginning to
- 3:44Speaker 1: exchange their vows or whatever. I really thought this was
- 3:49Speaker 1: going to be at least four episodes long. And the
- 3:55Speaker 1: fact that it's like low key on one and then
- 4:00Speaker 1: we jump into all of the insanity afterwards once they
- 4:05Speaker 1: get interrupted. This is shocking to me, you guys, Like genuinely,
- 4:13Speaker 1: I am very pleased. Please do not get me wrong,
- 4:16Speaker 1: but I fully thought this was going to take forever,
- 4:21Speaker 1: and I cannot tell you how delighted I am. I mean, amazing,
- 4:26Speaker 1: so much better than I was thinking. Also, the development
- 4:33Speaker 1: of Sanji's reaction to her eye influencing her now look
- 4:45Speaker 1: Sanchi saw her eye when he was outside her window.
- 4:51Speaker 1: So I confess to being just a little bit puzzled
- 4:55Speaker 1: because the reaction that he gives her when he sees
- 4:59Speaker 1: it feels actually quite genuine It doesn't feel like he's
- 5:06Speaker 1: playing what's the word I want. It doesn't feel like
- 5:11Speaker 1: he planned ahead for how he was going to react
- 5:14Speaker 1: once she revealed her third eye that he already knew
- 5:17Speaker 1: about and was like, Okay, here's the angle I'm going
- 5:21Speaker 1: to play it with. It really feels as if he
- 5:25Speaker 1: is seeing her eye for the first time. So I
- 5:28Speaker 1: think that the way that I'm meant to see this
- 5:31Speaker 1: is like to understand that, yes, he saw her eye,
- 5:34Speaker 1: he knows it exists, but at the time when he
- 5:39Speaker 1: saw it, he was in the headspace of just being
- 5:44Speaker 1: devastated at the reveal of her betrayal. And now he
- 5:52Speaker 1: is looking at her through the eyes of somebody who
- 5:55Speaker 1: has like turned a corner in the midst of all
- 5:58Speaker 1: of this and has decided that maybe he's in love
- 6:00Speaker 1: with her after all. And that makes it so that
- 6:07Speaker 1: he is more enchanted by her eye than he had
- 6:14Speaker 1: been the first time he saw it, because it's not
- 6:17Speaker 1: as tainted this time around as it might have been.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Now let's be clear, it should be, it should be
- 6:27Speaker 1: as tainted. But because he is so he's such a
- 6:33Speaker 1: soft touch when it comes to women. Obviously, his headspace
- 6:38Speaker 1: like is in a very different place right now. And
- 6:42Speaker 1: it's extremely funny to me the way that this is
- 6:45Speaker 1: all shaking out, because I really wasn't sure how he
- 6:50Speaker 1: was going to be playing it once he was like
- 6:55Speaker 1: actually in the moment with her, I think that, like,
- 7:00Speaker 1: looking back, maybe I should have known it was going
- 7:04Speaker 1: to turn out to be like this, but I really
- 7:08Speaker 1: genuinely didn't give it enough thought. So what happens, and
- 7:14Speaker 1: I will never stop laughing. You guys, this is such
- 7:17Speaker 1: a great way to play this. What happens is that
- 7:25Speaker 1: Sangi is so attracted to her. She's so beautiful that
- 7:34Speaker 1: despite the fact that he knows that she intends to
- 7:38Speaker 1: kill him, he can't seem to keep that in mind
- 7:45Speaker 1: for long enough to really make him be cautious of her.
- 7:51Speaker 1: It's like the attraction just overwhelms all the other knowledge
- 7:57Speaker 1: in his head and makes it so that he like can't.
- 8:03Speaker 1: He even tells himself at one point, you need to
- 8:07Speaker 1: focus and remember that if like, as soon as she
- 8:12Speaker 1: gets the chance, she's gonna kill you. But as he
- 8:16Speaker 1: is thinking those words to himself, it's it's almost played
- 8:23Speaker 1: as if like he's orgasming. As he's thinking about it,
- 8:26Speaker 1: he's like, you have to remember as soon as she
- 8:29Speaker 1: gets the chance, she's gonna kill you. And he gets
- 8:34Speaker 1: this like heart eyes look on his face again, and
- 8:37Speaker 1: it's just really like it's so it's not that he
- 8:43Speaker 1: has forgotten. It's not that it's like, you know, this,
- 8:47Speaker 1: this whole thing has slipped his mind. It's simply not
- 8:52Speaker 1: that important anymore now that he is seeing her and
- 8:56Speaker 1: how gorgeous she is, and he is about to add
- 9:00Speaker 1: actually marry her and get to kiss her, and this
- 9:02Speaker 1: whole thing in front of everybody, the fact that she
- 9:06Speaker 1: wants to kill him, it's just kind of a detail
- 9:09Speaker 1: that like, I guess we can worry about that eventually.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I guess I'll like tune back in once I need
- 9:15Speaker 1: to like consider that. But even once he's actually at
- 9:20Speaker 1: the altar, he knows full well the whole plan is
- 9:27Speaker 1: contingent on him lifting the veil, and as soon as
- 9:31Speaker 1: he does that, it's supposed to be that, you know,
- 9:33Speaker 1: now she pumps his guts full lead, you know, And
- 9:38Speaker 1: so one would expect for the for when he like
- 9:46Speaker 1: lifts the veil, for that to be the moment that
- 9:48Speaker 1: he is the most on edge and kind of going,
- 9:52Speaker 1: oh god, okay, here it comes and not only is
- 9:56Speaker 1: that not what happens, but he is also I think,
- 10:02Speaker 1: like taken again. It's so weird. I want to say
- 10:09Speaker 1: he's taken off guard by her eye, even though it
- 10:13Speaker 1: really doesn't make sense that he's taken off guard because
- 10:17Speaker 1: like he's meant to know that it's there. But I
- 10:22Speaker 1: just I really do. I think that it's purely all
- 10:25Speaker 1: about the fact that he is seeing her through a
- 10:30Speaker 1: different lens, now that he had been looking at her
- 10:36Speaker 1: before through eyes that were like, Okay, she's the villain,
- 10:41Speaker 1: and now he is looking at her through eyes that
- 10:43Speaker 1: are she's about to be my wife, and so he's
- 10:47Speaker 1: just seeing it all differently than he did. And I
- 10:52Speaker 1: kind of love this. I mean, it's just so sony,
- 10:55Speaker 1: is it not. It's just so absolutely in character, and
- 11:04Speaker 1: I like this satisfies every desire that I had in
- 11:09Speaker 1: terms of how this whole story was going to go.
- 11:14Speaker 1: There there are a lot of ways that you could
- 11:17Speaker 1: have played this, but if you really wanted to be
- 11:21Speaker 1: in like, if you wanted to be true to his
- 11:27Speaker 1: character and make this feel like weirdly endearing at the
- 11:32Speaker 1: same time as it being tense, I just looking at this,
- 11:37Speaker 1: I don't know how else it could have gone. This
- 11:41Speaker 1: is perfect. You have him actually falling for her initially
- 11:47Speaker 1: having her seem to be in love with him is
- 11:50Speaker 1: just such a delightful surprise. And then rip the rugget
- 11:56Speaker 1: right out from under us and have it be that
- 11:58Speaker 1: she's a lying liar, and thus we're now afraid for him.
- 12:04Speaker 1: He finds out I'm so sad on his behalf because
- 12:07Speaker 1: he's heartbroken. He really thought, let me just accept my
- 12:12Speaker 1: fate and lean into it, and maybe I can make
- 12:14Speaker 1: this relationship into something. And then finds out that she
- 12:19Speaker 1: actually doesn't care about him the way that she pretended,
- 12:22Speaker 1: and that she has been fully lying to him with
- 12:25Speaker 1: this dastardly plan the whole time. Now I'm worried about
- 12:28Speaker 1: him on the day and I'm like, but at least
- 12:31Speaker 1: he knows. And then on the day, yeah, he knows,
- 12:36Speaker 1: but it isn't helping. It's not actually putting him on guard,
- 12:40Speaker 1: it's not actually resulting in a change to his behavior.
- 12:47Speaker 1: It's fully just oh yeah, I know that, but oh well,
- 12:54Speaker 1: she's super hot. Have you seen her? It's fine, And
- 13:01Speaker 1: and for what happens then this was like unexpected, and
- 13:06Speaker 1: I actually think that in the previous episode when we're
- 13:11Speaker 1: watching the way that Big Mom talks to Putting and
- 13:15Speaker 1: the way that she says, and then he'll see her
- 13:18Speaker 1: hideous eye and realize that she's a monster. I think
- 13:22Speaker 1: at the time I was sort of like, that's fucked
- 13:24Speaker 1: up that she's saying this, Like this seems to hurt
- 13:29Speaker 1: her feelings because the way that the camera is on Putting,
- 13:33Speaker 1: you don't really see her face in focus. But it's
- 13:36Speaker 1: doing that thing that when anime has a character who's
- 13:41Speaker 1: super super angry, it's just like the top half of
- 13:45Speaker 1: their face is in deep shadow and so there's no
- 13:48Speaker 1: features and you only see their mouth pretty much, so
- 13:52Speaker 1: giving the impression that this upsets her, but we don't
- 13:56Speaker 1: really get to see it being upsetting to her. It's
- 13:59Speaker 1: just a sort of background thing. But I didn't predict
- 14:05Speaker 1: that her being upset was actually going to be acknowledged
- 14:09Speaker 1: because she's being just full on played as the villain.
- 14:14Speaker 1: So I was I was like, actually sorry for her
- 14:21Speaker 1: in that moment watching it, and was like, that's a
- 14:23Speaker 1: really shitty thing to say, But you know, she's about
- 14:27Speaker 1: to kill Soanji, and so I can only spare so
- 14:29Speaker 1: much empathy for her before being like, well, that's what
- 14:32Speaker 1: you get, you know, And then we wind up here
- 14:39Speaker 1: where she lifts the veil, she reveals her third eye.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Sanji appears to recoil for a moment, and she interprets
- 14:51Speaker 1: this as there it is. There's the reaction, and she
- 14:58Speaker 1: actually thinks to herself, good boy, stay just like that.
- 15:04Speaker 1: So the plan here is very much I am going
- 15:10Speaker 1: to like hit him in the moment when he is
- 15:15Speaker 1: the most off his guard because he is so disgusted,
- 15:20Speaker 1: and when he is I will then be able to
- 15:24Speaker 1: kill him without any trouble because he is just his
- 15:30Speaker 1: guard is down completely, you know. And then he says,
- 15:39Speaker 1: how could you hide such a beautiful eye? And she's
- 15:43Speaker 1: brought up short and it's just like hold on what
- 15:48Speaker 1: and she actually collapses onto the ground. And this is
- 15:53Speaker 1: something that we saw in I can't remember the name
- 15:58Speaker 1: of the character, but he is the guy who can
- 15:59Speaker 1: see into the future by like ten seconds something like that.
- 16:04Speaker 1: It's a very short amount of time. But I always
- 16:07Speaker 1: have been a big fan of this concept. This is
- 16:09Speaker 1: something that you see in other properties as well, the
- 16:14Speaker 1: idea of like they can see in the future, but
- 16:17Speaker 1: not two massively important events necessarily only to things that
- 16:24Speaker 1: are so like it will help them save their own
- 16:27Speaker 1: lives or the lives of people around them if something
- 16:29Speaker 1: were to happen in a certain way, but it won't
- 16:32Speaker 1: necessarily be far enough ahead that they can like make
- 16:34Speaker 1: major changes to fate itself, that kind of thing. So
- 16:43Speaker 1: he sees that she collapses and actually thinks to himself, like,
- 16:49Speaker 1: what's going on? Why is she falling down? And when
- 16:53Speaker 1: he gets this look on his face, Beije is watching
- 16:57Speaker 1: him and sees him go hold on, what's And Beije
- 17:03Speaker 1: is interpreting this as there is his reaction to the
- 17:07Speaker 1: fact that the plan has gone off the rails. He
- 17:11Speaker 1: sees that we are about to betray them, and Beija
- 17:17Speaker 1: doesn't get at all concerned at this point. He's not like, oh, no,
- 17:24Speaker 1: our plan is blown, which I was a little surprised by.
- 17:27Speaker 1: I'll say that, like beij really takes it for granted
- 17:34Speaker 1: that if the guy is able to see their plan
- 17:39Speaker 1: at all ahead, that it's like not going to be
- 17:42Speaker 1: enough of an advantage for this man to actually thwart
- 17:46Speaker 1: the betrayal at all. And I probably I agree with him,
- 17:52Speaker 1: like I just I will say though, that that's just
- 17:56Speaker 1: enough of an advantage that I would be worried about it.
- 17:59Speaker 1: But there's just not really a good way to counter
- 18:05Speaker 1: that that I can think of. I like, I can't,
- 18:10Speaker 1: you know, unless they know of some way to just
- 18:13Speaker 1: utterly disable that power, but I don't think there is one.
- 18:17Speaker 1: So you've just got a kind of hope that, like,
- 18:20Speaker 1: if you're moving fast enough that this man can see ahead,
- 18:24Speaker 1: won't really be of much advantage to him, which I accept.
- 18:30Speaker 1: You know, there's not always going to be a way
- 18:33Speaker 1: around stuff, and to be honest, sometimes if there is
- 18:38Speaker 1: a like a too easy way around stuff, that can
- 18:42Speaker 1: be a little bit boring. So this adds an interesting
- 18:47Speaker 1: bit of tension and the fact that it seems like
- 18:50Speaker 1: we just have to kind of hope we can manage
- 18:52Speaker 1: to pull this off anyway. I actually like that, you know,
- 18:56Speaker 1: in terms of storytelling. But yeah, I was interested to
- 19:03Speaker 1: see that Beije is observing him and assuming he is
- 19:07Speaker 1: seeing that we are betraying them, and doesn't really seem
- 19:11Speaker 1: to be very worried about the fact that that is
- 19:14Speaker 1: what's happening. He just takes it for granted that they're
- 19:17Speaker 1: still going to be able to pull all of this off.
- 19:20Speaker 1: So then as she collapses. We get to like have
- 19:28Speaker 1: a bunch of flashbacks to her childhood, and it's like
- 19:34Speaker 1: really really sad of how many people just called her
- 19:37Speaker 1: a freak, told her to get away, and the way
- 19:43Speaker 1: that big mom tells her, you need to cover up
- 19:45Speaker 1: your eye because you're creeping me out, and then later
- 19:48Speaker 1: on she makes her cut bangs like explicitly to cover
- 19:53Speaker 1: her eye. But then later the little kids at school
- 19:58Speaker 1: jump her and cut her he bangs so that her
- 20:01Speaker 1: eye is exposed, which is just so like gross of them,
- 20:06Speaker 1: you know, And I'm saying, like, oh my god, I
- 20:08Speaker 1: was disgusted. Kids are like that too, And it's kids
- 20:12Speaker 1: are a little sociopaths. It's truly, it's wild. It's just
- 20:20Speaker 1: it's wild. So the whole flashback kind of culminates in
- 20:31Speaker 1: her heel turn from being an innocent young girl who
- 20:37Speaker 1: just wanted to be accepted by everybody into a person
- 20:42Speaker 1: who is so angry and bitter at the way they
- 20:47Speaker 1: have been treated by everybody that they have decided I'm
- 20:51Speaker 1: just going to kill all of y'all because fuck you.
- 20:55Speaker 1: And honestly, I kind of get it, you know what
- 21:01Speaker 1: I was saying, like not to to rationalize a way
- 21:07Speaker 1: becoming a total murderer, but I cannot help but to
- 21:12Speaker 1: a degree be like, yeah, yeah, all right, fair. I
- 21:20Speaker 1: will say that usually this sort of story beat is
- 21:29Speaker 1: something that doesn't work for me. And what I mean
- 21:33Speaker 1: by this sort of story beat is that I don't
- 21:38Speaker 1: love it when somebody is like monstrously evil and then
- 21:44Speaker 1: we get a flashback of the way that they were
- 21:48Speaker 1: abused or bullied, and it's supposed to explain away, not
- 21:54Speaker 1: explain away exactly, but sort of almost it feels like
- 21:57Speaker 1: it's trying to excuse the actions in the present because
- 22:04Speaker 1: it's like, well, they practically had no choice but to
- 22:08Speaker 1: become a monstrous serial killer or whatever, look at the
- 22:12Speaker 1: way they were treated. And it's something that really, I
- 22:18Speaker 1: feel like began to happen pretty heavily in like the
- 22:21Speaker 1: mid two thousands. It was like, we're going to have
- 22:25Speaker 1: a villain that we then try very hard to humanize
- 22:30Speaker 1: to a degree that sort of almost rationalizing why this
- 22:36Speaker 1: is fine. And I think there's been enough pushback in
- 22:40Speaker 1: the past ten years or so. It's an interesting thing
- 22:45Speaker 1: that sort of happened in our culture as well. It
- 22:49Speaker 1: feels like we had a period where we tried to
- 22:52Speaker 1: behave as if whatever happened in your past that caused
- 22:57Speaker 1: you trauma, it is valid that it is influencing how
- 23:04Speaker 1: you behave now and that it explains and excuses the
- 23:09Speaker 1: harm that you are doing other people. And then we
- 23:13Speaker 1: began to grow a little bit beyond that and realize that, okay, no,
- 23:19Speaker 1: it can explain why you're behaving this way, but it
- 23:21Speaker 1: doesn't make it okay the way you are treating other people.
- 23:26Speaker 1: And it's sort of like the process that a lot
- 23:28Speaker 1: of us go through when we actually go into therapy
- 23:32Speaker 1: as well. Initially, oftentimes when people begin therapy there is
- 23:37Speaker 1: a sort of feeling like this is all, Like all
- 23:42Speaker 1: I need to say is well, I was abused when
- 23:44Speaker 1: I was younger, and I can not make any effort
- 23:49Speaker 1: to really change my behavior. If I explain why I'm
- 23:51Speaker 1: like this, that's enough and it kind of gets me
- 23:54Speaker 1: out of it. And as you grow as a person,
- 23:59Speaker 1: you begin to realize that, like, no, I can say
- 24:02Speaker 1: that this is why, but I have a responsibility to
- 24:05Speaker 1: be a better person, to try and change my behavior
- 24:10Speaker 1: that I know is hurting somebody and adapt and become
- 24:14Speaker 1: better despite the way that I was treated, that it
- 24:19Speaker 1: is my responsibility to take ownership of my own behavior.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Now that I know it's harmful, Now that I have
- 24:27Speaker 1: been made aware by that the party that I am
- 24:29Speaker 1: harming that they feel a certain way about it, I
- 24:34Speaker 1: must take that feedback and actually address that. And I
- 24:42Speaker 1: I am saying all of this just to explain like
- 24:46Speaker 1: the way that I was sort of reacting to this.
- 24:51Speaker 1: There was a moment just for a second where a
- 24:54Speaker 1: part of me was sort of like, oh, I don't know,
- 24:58Speaker 1: and I I decided that I like this a lot
- 25:04Speaker 1: better than the usual way that this is done, simply
- 25:08Speaker 1: because specifically what she was bullied about is the exact
- 25:17Speaker 1: thing that Sanji is complimenting right now. And so the
- 25:23Speaker 1: fact that it's not just like I was abused in
- 25:26Speaker 1: this like sort of vague sense and that turned me
- 25:28Speaker 1: into a full on, like sadistic monster. It's really we're
- 25:33Speaker 1: finding out like it's a defense mechanism, and it's like
- 25:41Speaker 1: a response to feeling like she's never going to actually
- 25:45Speaker 1: be loved or accepted. And so this is the shocking moment.
- 25:49Speaker 1: It's like if it were more open ended, if there
- 25:53Speaker 1: were more of a sense of like I am using
- 25:56Speaker 1: this as a catch all for why I'm like this,
- 26:00Speaker 1: and then I think I would push back more. But
- 26:02Speaker 1: because it's so laser focused to the way she was
- 26:08Speaker 1: treated due to her eye and the way he is
- 26:10Speaker 1: reacting to her eye, I just have a very very
- 26:14Speaker 1: different response to it, and I think that this works
- 26:18Speaker 1: quite well. So yeah, I'm personally a big fan of this.
- 26:24Speaker 1: And I'm like, I can't help but laugh at the
- 26:30Speaker 1: fact that she just starts yelling at Sangy basically like
- 26:36Speaker 1: fuck you. How could you say that to me? Like
- 26:40Speaker 1: how dare you? Because she doesn't even know how to
- 26:46Speaker 1: accept this compliment. It simply does not make sense to
- 26:50Speaker 1: her that what he is saying could be sincere because
- 26:54Speaker 1: it's like I hoped so much for this that I
- 27:02Speaker 1: am not trusting what I'm hearing now because it feels
- 27:06Speaker 1: like I'm just hearing what I want because it's exactly
- 27:10Speaker 1: what I've always hoped for, and so I must be diluted.
- 27:14Speaker 1: I must be the one who's like just not connected
- 27:18Speaker 1: to reality anymore. Or you know that this is a
- 27:24Speaker 1: particular weakness of mine, feeling this way about myself, and
- 27:29Speaker 1: that this is a way I have been treated, and
- 27:31Speaker 1: you are choosing to exploit that because you know how
- 27:35Speaker 1: self conscious I am and how much self loathing I
- 27:38Speaker 1: have around it, and I really I just like this
- 27:44Speaker 1: a lot in terms of a surprise beat. I was
- 27:49Speaker 1: not expecting this at all. I think it's just a
- 27:55Speaker 1: really compelling idea and the it's not resolved by the
- 28:03Speaker 1: end of these two episodes, obviously, but she does basically
- 28:08Speaker 1: just like collapse, and in the end Sanji has to
- 28:12Speaker 1: scoop her up and like carry her off using his
- 28:15Speaker 1: ability to like walk on the sky. Can't remember what
- 28:18Speaker 1: it's called. So now I'm super curious, like what is
- 28:25Speaker 1: going to happen with the two of them, because are
- 28:30Speaker 1: they technically married? Now? It feels like they must be.
- 28:37Speaker 1: It feels like there's a like enough of a finish
- 28:44Speaker 1: to the what do you call it? The ceremony and
- 28:49Speaker 1: now you may kiss the bride. It's like I now
- 28:51Speaker 1: pronounce you man and wife has happened already, right, So
- 28:57Speaker 1: are they actually technical married? I don't really know what
- 29:04Speaker 1: that means for like their relationship, if it's changing anything
- 29:09Speaker 1: or if you know what I'm saying. I really don't know,
- 29:13Speaker 1: but I am really really curious how they are both
- 29:17Speaker 1: going to be feeling about this, Like after some of
- 29:22Speaker 1: the dust settles because putting you know, her whole thing
- 29:27Speaker 1: was meant to be, I shoot shot Sanji, and that
- 29:29Speaker 1: kicks off the whole bloodbath. And what that's when we
- 29:32Speaker 1: kill everybody else from Germa. And because that doesn't happen,
- 29:41Speaker 1: the rest of the killing of people from Germa doesn't
- 29:43Speaker 1: get kicked off properly. Everybody is sort of like wrongfooted
- 29:48Speaker 1: by how the very first signal part of the plan
- 29:52Speaker 1: gets like screwed up. It's the priest that winds up
- 29:56Speaker 1: dead if Florian saying it's in the check how of Cory,
- 30:01Speaker 1: that's the guy who can see ahead in the future.
- 30:03Speaker 1: He's the same guy who flicks the uh the jelly beans?
- 30:09Speaker 1: Is that right? I'm so sorry, guys. But like, for
- 30:13Speaker 1: those who aren't aware, the term flick the bean is
- 30:18Speaker 1: a slang term for like vaginal masturbation for playing with
- 30:24Speaker 1: your clip. And so every time I want to say
- 30:27Speaker 1: he flicks the bean at him, it just makes me
- 30:29Speaker 1: like I just giggle a little bit internally. So I
- 30:31Speaker 1: just really need to acknowledge that to just let you
- 30:33Speaker 1: know that's what I'm thinking. But so Floria, in his
- 30:39Speaker 1: ability to walk on the sky, I don't know what
- 30:40Speaker 1: it is called skywalk? Natasha skywalk? Is it? Is it
- 30:44Speaker 1: just called skywalk? I thought I had. So he's a skywalker,
- 30:48Speaker 1: He's he's straight out of a fucking Star Wars. Okay, Florian, Yeah,
- 30:55Speaker 1: he does flick the bean. I'm so sorry, but but yeah,
- 31:00Speaker 1: So he spots the fact that like because in the audience,
- 31:04Speaker 1: Big Mom is watching and she like hisses at the priest,
- 31:08Speaker 1: will you shoot him then? Because she can see for
- 31:10Speaker 1: whatever reason, Pudding isn't isn't gonna do it. And so
- 31:15Speaker 1: the priest is about to draw a gun himself and
- 31:18Speaker 1: I'm saying, priest, it's like, he's not really you know
- 31:20Speaker 1: what I'm saying. And category sees Sonji is about to
- 31:29Speaker 1: like duck and dive real quick and completely like duck
- 31:34Speaker 1: that shot, So let me shoot him instead. He flicks
- 31:39Speaker 1: that bean lol, And Sonji still ducks and manages to
- 31:45Speaker 1: get around it, and he kills a guy on his
- 31:49Speaker 1: own side. He kills the priest, which is very embarrassing
- 31:53Speaker 1: to me, but you know, and yeah, and he this
- 32:00Speaker 1: is like kind of what makes everybody go, wait, what's
- 32:04Speaker 1: going on? Because Sanji's the one that's meant to get shot.
- 32:08Speaker 1: The way that this is supposed to happen. It's not
- 32:10Speaker 1: supposed to be somebody on our side that got shot.
- 32:13Speaker 1: And also we don't even know who shot him because
- 32:15Speaker 1: like Category is sort of in the back, you know,
- 32:18Speaker 1: so they aren't even really aware of where the shot
- 32:21Speaker 1: came from. Everybody's just sort of looking around like what. Meanwhile,
- 32:25Speaker 1: the people from drama are looking around like holl up,
- 32:28Speaker 1: holl up, holl up, because they're they're like beginning to
- 32:32Speaker 1: clock the fact that shit's popping off somehow, but they're
- 32:36Speaker 1: not really getting like who it's directed at or what's
- 32:42Speaker 1: going on, because once again, this is somebody on Big
- 32:45Speaker 1: Mom's side that just got taken, you know. So it's
- 32:50Speaker 1: just a real like confused moment. I sort of enjoyed that.
- 32:56Speaker 1: And then we have loofy asterisk entrance. So this whole
- 33:04Speaker 1: thing with the wedding cake, You guys, this is one
- 33:12Speaker 1: of those things that's like yet again going to be
- 33:16Speaker 1: me saying that Big Mom is in the right, and
- 33:21Speaker 1: it's so funny because like, not only do I not
- 33:24Speaker 1: genuinely believe that, but also like cake is cake, and
- 33:27Speaker 1: that cake is still fine, and would it's fine, It's fine.
- 33:31Speaker 1: You can eat so much cake still from that cake lady,
- 33:36Speaker 1: there's nothing wrong with it. But you know whatever, I
- 33:39Speaker 1: would argue, deciding to put the altar that the wedding
- 33:43Speaker 1: is going to take place on on the cake itself
- 33:48Speaker 1: is a weird choice. If the cake means that much
- 33:53Speaker 1: to you, you know, it just sort of feels like
- 33:58Speaker 1: you're having them literally walk all over it. Why would
- 34:03Speaker 1: you do that when you're gonna be eating It's it's
- 34:06Speaker 1: the size of a building. This cake is huge, and
- 34:11Speaker 1: we get a whole song. I'm still not fully on
- 34:20Speaker 1: board with the musical nature of this arc. There's like,
- 34:27Speaker 1: in theory, I actually do really kind of enjoy it,
- 34:31Speaker 1: but in practice I think that I keep kind of
- 34:35Speaker 1: struggling with how I don't know if it's like I
- 34:40Speaker 1: should watch it when it's just subtitled and see how
- 34:44Speaker 1: I feel about it then. But I will say that, like,
- 34:48Speaker 1: in terms of the music itself, it's very discordant and
- 34:55Speaker 1: there's something really difficult to follow about it. It's like
- 35:01Speaker 1: the melody, there's not a sort of repetitive, you know
- 35:04Speaker 1: what I'm saying, where you can begin to sort of
- 35:06Speaker 1: catch the melody. It's it's a really strange sound, which
- 35:12Speaker 1: might be on purpose to signify that this place is
- 35:15Speaker 1: fucked up, which valid, but I don't know if that's
- 35:20Speaker 1: the same music in the original or if we are
- 35:23Speaker 1: getting different music for the dub or what. And then
- 35:27Speaker 1: like the singing itself, it sort of rhymes, but like barely,
- 35:34Speaker 1: and the singing is not really seeming like connected at
- 35:38Speaker 1: all with the melody that's playing instrumentally underneath it. It
- 35:42Speaker 1: just feels like we're getting music that follows no pattern
- 35:47Speaker 1: from instruments, and then we're getting singing that somebody is
- 35:51Speaker 1: literally making up as they go along vocally. It's reminding me,
- 35:57Speaker 1: honestly of how I sing to dogs, where you know,
- 36:02Speaker 1: like I just begin to sing, like, here's Pip Ben.
- 36:06Speaker 1: He's a good boy. He likes it when I scratch
- 36:09Speaker 1: his new I like to waggle his butt all around
- 36:13Speaker 1: and I have to pick up his poop. Like I
- 36:17Speaker 1: feel like what I just did is actually more coherent
- 36:20Speaker 1: really in reality. But it's been This has been kind
- 36:25Speaker 1: of the way it has been with every song, is
- 36:28Speaker 1: that the melody is just off and the vocals don't
- 36:33Speaker 1: really seem to go with it. The lyrics are odd
- 36:37Speaker 1: in a way that's like It could be the translation,
- 36:40Speaker 1: or it could just be we made weird lyrics, you know,
- 36:43Speaker 1: I don't know, but this whole moment, it's like the
- 36:48Speaker 1: crown glory of this chef who Florine is in the
- 36:53Speaker 1: chat and says, the old head chef is called Strusen
- 36:56Speaker 1: and it means something like sprinkles in German. That's what like,
- 37:01Speaker 1: Because I was it made me think of strusel, which
- 37:04Speaker 1: is like the word oftentimes for the crumbles of It's
- 37:14Speaker 1: like basically usually sugar, butter, a little flour, and oftentimes
- 37:19Speaker 1: like cinnamon, and they are rubbed together into a crumble
- 37:22Speaker 1: that you like just put over the top of a
- 37:26Speaker 1: open pie, and so it's not really like a top crust,
- 37:30Speaker 1: but it sort of forms a crust as it bakes.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Also put on the top of certain muffins or coffee cakes,
- 37:36Speaker 1: and it's delicious, it's very lovely. But yeah, that's immediately
- 37:40Speaker 1: what I thought of. So the fact that it means
- 37:41Speaker 1: sprinkles is interesting because that would work, Florian says. The
- 37:47Speaker 1: music feels off and it just works for me for
- 37:50Speaker 1: that reason. I have things to say but can't yet.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Oh boy, okay, but yeah, so whatever it is, like
- 37:59Speaker 1: Streusen is very excited to present his cake, and I
- 38:02Speaker 1: just felt really bad for this guy because like it
- 38:05Speaker 1: just goes left so bad. It really, it's just so
- 38:10Speaker 1: unfortunate for him. So, you know, he has I don't
- 38:16Speaker 1: know if it's a shovel or an axe, or he's
- 38:19Speaker 1: got something that he like smashes into the ground and
- 38:23Speaker 1: it sort of causes the ground underneath him to split
- 38:28Speaker 1: and then the cake like comes up out of the ground.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Which I have a lot of questions about why you
- 38:34Speaker 1: would do it this way, just in terms of like hygiene,
- 38:41Speaker 1: Why would you have the cake come out of the ground.
- 38:45Speaker 1: And if it's already come up out of the ground,
- 38:49Speaker 1: if your big mom, why are you not then willing
- 38:53Speaker 1: to eat it after Lufy's crew like bus out of it?
- 38:59Speaker 1: You should be fine it. You should be totally fine
- 39:02Speaker 1: with it. However, I am willing to accede to the
- 39:07Speaker 1: fact that it's likely just the matter of the principle.
- 39:11Speaker 1: It was supposed to be this beautiful cake. I was
- 39:15Speaker 1: supposed to have a moment when I got to slice
- 39:17Speaker 1: into it, and it was supposed to be like a
- 39:19Speaker 1: bit of a victory as well. After we killed this
- 39:23Speaker 1: whole family and now the whole plan is tanked. I
- 39:29Speaker 1: am not getting to kill this whole family. It's not
- 39:31Speaker 1: going as simply as I expected. And not only is
- 39:35Speaker 1: my plan tanked, but it has been tanked by them,
- 39:38Speaker 1: destroying the very thing that I was looking forward to
- 39:41Speaker 1: eating afterward, which is insult to injury and like as somebody,
- 39:51Speaker 1: I think that if I were to, like, if anybody
- 39:55Speaker 1: were to ask me my very favorite dessert, it probably
- 40:01Speaker 1: would be some kind of cake. I am very picky
- 40:06Speaker 1: when it comes to frostings, but cake itself is so
- 40:13Speaker 1: unbeatable in a lot of applications. I love the light,
- 40:19Speaker 1: fluffy cake that you have with like a cupcake. I
- 40:22Speaker 1: love the dense pound cakes. I love cake pops, which
- 40:26Speaker 1: are denser. Still, I am a huge fan of vanilla.
- 40:33Speaker 1: I know it gets like a lot of like people
- 40:35Speaker 1: malign vanilla as the boring flavor. Vanilla is not boring,
- 40:39Speaker 1: it is it is underused. If anything, Usually when you
- 40:44Speaker 1: get something that's vanilla flavored, I don't think they've used
- 40:46Speaker 1: enough vanilla to call it vanilla flavored. I often double,
- 40:50Speaker 1: if not triple, the amount of vanilla extract in a recipe,
- 40:53Speaker 1: or I will use if it calls for a teaspoon
- 40:56Speaker 1: of vanilla, I'll do a teaspoon of vanilla, and then
- 40:57Speaker 1: I will do a teaspoon of vanilla bean powder and
- 41:03Speaker 1: I'll get the lovely speckles in it from that as well.
- 41:08Speaker 1: I took choosing my wedding cake so seriously, and it
- 41:13Speaker 1: was one of those things where I was planning a
- 41:15Speaker 1: wedding out of state, and so I only had limited time,
- 41:20Speaker 1: and I had to choose two different bakers to go
- 41:22Speaker 1: see while I was in Florida. And it was like,
- 41:25Speaker 1: if I don't like one of these two, I don't
- 41:27Speaker 1: know what I'm gonna do because they're the only people
- 41:29Speaker 1: that I have time to actually see, and otherwise I
- 41:32Speaker 1: won't actually get to taste anything in person. So I'll
- 41:35Speaker 1: have to figure it out. And I went with a
- 41:38Speaker 1: friend and the first person that I went to see
- 41:41Speaker 1: it was this woman who was like she was probably
- 41:44Speaker 1: in her late sixties, and she had this amazing like
- 41:47Speaker 1: setup out of her home. It was she baked at home,
- 41:51Speaker 1: but it was clearly that she had like a professional
- 41:54Speaker 1: setup within her home and she had all of these
- 41:56Speaker 1: like dummy cakes that were decorated and meant to be
- 42:00Speaker 1: an example of what everything could look like. And she
- 42:03Speaker 1: went very hard on tons of glitter and like kind
- 42:08Speaker 1: of rhinestone accents on the cake that were like edible,
- 42:12Speaker 1: very glitzy, glammy. You know, I wasn't really looking for
- 42:18Speaker 1: that as an aesthetic, but her work was immaculate in
- 42:22Speaker 1: terms of execution, so I was sort of thinking, I
- 42:25Speaker 1: might not like that look, but she clearly knows what
- 42:28Speaker 1: she's doing, so if I chose a different look, I
- 42:30Speaker 1: think she'd be able to pull it off. But everything
- 42:34Speaker 1: that she brought out to us for tasting was clearly
- 42:36Speaker 1: like boxed cake mix and pre made fillings from like
- 42:40Speaker 1: a can from Cisco. It was so deeply disappointing, and
- 42:45Speaker 1: everything that I described about how I wanted my cake
- 42:48Speaker 1: to look, she kept like kind of bringing it back
- 42:50Speaker 1: around to but I don't want any sparkles. I'm not
- 42:53Speaker 1: looking for any glitter. And I started to realize, like,
- 42:57Speaker 1: maybe she can't do anything else. And then the next
- 43:00Speaker 1: person I went to see it was this little dude
- 43:03Speaker 1: who looked like Elmer Fudd and spoke so similarly to him,
- 43:07Speaker 1: and he just had this little rented office in like
- 43:10Speaker 1: an office park that clearly he rented it for the
- 43:12Speaker 1: day for like a couple hours we were meeting him.
- 43:15Speaker 1: It had nothing in it of his, and he brought
- 43:19Speaker 1: several different cakes that he had made mini cakes. And
- 43:22Speaker 1: I sat down with my friend and we're sort of
- 43:24Speaker 1: looking at each other because we're like, nothing about this
- 43:27Speaker 1: is giving. I do this professionally, and the other woman
- 43:31Speaker 1: had such a setup. And we sit down and we
- 43:34Speaker 1: took a bite of one of the first cakes, and
- 43:37Speaker 1: my friend Lisa and I looked at each other and
- 43:39Speaker 1: we were like, holy shit. It was the most spectacular cake.
- 43:46Speaker 1: And I think he used like Swiss butter cream or
- 43:49Speaker 1: Italian buttercream. Unbelievable, and I wound up like saving some
- 43:54Speaker 1: of it and carrying it on the plane home to
- 43:56Speaker 1: bring to my husband to be like, you have to
- 43:58Speaker 1: taste this, and end up choosing a flavor he didn't
- 44:01Speaker 1: have on his menu. We did a dark chocolate cake
- 44:03Speaker 1: with a passion fruit curd filling and then just like
- 44:07Speaker 1: a plain vanilla frosting, and that he then covered with
- 44:10Speaker 1: chocolate fonda because it was like a brown and gold
- 44:13Speaker 1: and green cake with dark like burgundy flowers on it.
- 44:18Speaker 1: It was gorgeous, and all of this to say, I
- 44:24Speaker 1: understand how much you get fixated on something like this,
- 44:29Speaker 1: especially if you are a foodie. We wound up having
- 44:32Speaker 1: actually a dessert like display where there were chocolate covered strawberries,
- 44:38Speaker 1: mini cheesecakes, mini tyrimisoux shooters, cake pops, all kinds of stuff.
- 44:43Speaker 1: So the wedding cake wasn't actually the only dessert, but
- 44:47Speaker 1: for many weddings that it is, it's the only dessert
- 44:50Speaker 1: there is, and thus if it sucks, it's kind of
- 44:55Speaker 1: a dummer at the end of everything, you know, at
- 44:58Speaker 1: least for me. I know, plenty of people don't give
- 45:00Speaker 1: a shit by the time the cake is served. A
- 45:02Speaker 1: lot of folks are drunk already and they're just sort
- 45:04Speaker 1: of like, hey, snack nice and they don't even taste it.
- 45:07Speaker 1: But uh, the way that she was fixating on this
- 45:10Speaker 1: cake so bad, it's just a really nice signal for
- 45:16Speaker 1: us of how she is going to utterly lose her
- 45:20Speaker 1: shit if something happens to it. And I kept thinking
- 45:23Speaker 1: when we heard her fixating on the cake, I kept
- 45:26Speaker 1: thinking about funniest home videos and like, this is a
- 45:30Speaker 1: thing now that is all like TikTok and YouTube. So
- 45:35Speaker 1: it's a different culture these days. But once upon a
- 45:38Speaker 1: time kids, you had to watch television and watch clip
- 45:43Speaker 1: shows on TV, and they would have assembled an edit
- 45:47Speaker 1: for you of funny videos that people physically mailed in
- 45:51Speaker 1: VHS tapes to show you. And it was I would
- 45:57Speaker 1: say probably twenty percent of those videos were people's wedding
- 46:01Speaker 1: cakes being ruined. It was either somebody was dancing and
- 46:05Speaker 1: they tripped and fell into the cake. It was like
- 46:08Speaker 1: the baker was rolling the cake out and it was
- 46:11Speaker 1: really really tall, and they were rolling a little too fast,
- 46:14Speaker 1: and when they came to a stop, it's like kept
- 46:16Speaker 1: going without them and just and it is was always
- 46:20Speaker 1: so utterly tragic to me watching it, because the amount
- 46:23Speaker 1: of work that goes into baking a wedding cake. Like
- 46:26Speaker 1: you think, you know, I promise you if you have
- 46:28Speaker 1: not worked in pastry before, you don't. You don't really
- 46:32Speaker 1: get You don't get it. Even if you watch television
- 46:35Speaker 1: where they make cakes, they cut so much that it
- 46:38Speaker 1: just gives you a completely unrealistic idea of how easy
- 46:42Speaker 1: it is to do and how much like instinct is involved.
- 46:47Speaker 1: You think watching it will get you to a point
- 46:50Speaker 1: where you can do it yourself, and then you start
- 46:52Speaker 1: to when you realize, like I don't even know how
- 46:54Speaker 1: to handle certain things that are happening right now because
- 46:57Speaker 1: my cake was a little too dry, or I cut
- 46:59Speaker 1: it while it was a little too warm, or I
- 47:02Speaker 1: put the icing on it and the icing started to
- 47:04Speaker 1: melt before you know. Like anyway, the destruction of a
- 47:08Speaker 1: wedding cake is something that I can understand her having
- 47:11Speaker 1: a total melt down over. I just want to say
- 47:13Speaker 1: that it's not even like it's not even really an overreaction.
- 47:18Speaker 1: I was joking about there's still plenty of it that's
- 47:21Speaker 1: good to eat. But it's not even about that. It's
- 47:24Speaker 1: about what it represented. And we saw that she basically
- 47:29Speaker 1: waged war on a variety of islands to get the
- 47:32Speaker 1: ingredients for this. So she actually pulls the bakers in
- 47:36Speaker 1: front of her and tells them like that they had
- 47:39Speaker 1: better get her a new cake, which it's the amount
- 47:43Speaker 1: of ingredients that they had to use to make this.
- 47:46Speaker 1: Of course, they can't just get her a new cake.
- 47:48Speaker 1: They can't do that, and they say so she's not
- 47:54Speaker 1: trying to hear that, and she says something to them
- 47:57Speaker 1: too about how like, since you wind like this cake
- 48:03Speaker 1: or this day, your lives are mine to do with
- 48:08Speaker 1: as I wish, and I was like, girl, they didn't
- 48:12Speaker 1: ruin your day, Loofy did it. She's blaming them because
- 48:15Speaker 1: they can't just like whip up another cake instantly. But
- 48:20Speaker 1: that's not like what you're saying. You're mad or you're
- 48:24Speaker 1: saying you're mad that somebody ruined the day, and they're
- 48:27Speaker 1: not even the ones who did that. And I really
- 48:29Speaker 1: felt for these guys because it was just it was
- 48:31Speaker 1: not their fault, you know, it was just not up
- 48:34Speaker 1: to them. If they had the ingredients to just make
- 48:38Speaker 1: a second cake, I bet they fucking would have. But
- 48:40Speaker 1: you wanted a cake that was literally like the size
- 48:43Speaker 1: of the palace itself. What are they supposed to do?
- 48:46Speaker 1: How do you even bake something like this? You would
- 48:48Speaker 1: have to I'm trying to imagine, and I'm thinking, like,
- 48:52Speaker 1: you'd have to get a bunch of cake pans, and
- 48:55Speaker 1: you would have to bake thousands of separate cakes in
- 49:00Speaker 1: ovens all over the island, and then get those cakes
- 49:04Speaker 1: together and begin to assemble them into what looks like
- 49:08Speaker 1: one hole. But it wouldn't actually be a whole cake.
- 49:11Speaker 1: It would be thousands of smaller cakes crammed together. Anyway.
- 49:19Speaker 1: Florian says the clips were funny, but they made weird voiceovers.
- 49:22Speaker 1: Why oh, funniest home videos. It was not just voiceovers too.
- 49:26Speaker 1: They would do like slide whistles when people fell down,
- 49:29Speaker 1: and like Boyeong whenever somebody like jumped up or down.
- 49:34Speaker 1: It was a very They were very cartoony with it.
- 49:37Speaker 1: It was a real era. Guys. Just know that if
- 49:42Speaker 1: you run across that sort of thing in videos now,
- 49:45Speaker 1: it's probably an older person who's done the edit and
- 49:48Speaker 1: they are remembering funniest home videos and it's like kind
- 49:50Speaker 1: of a reference to that if anything. So she winds
- 49:58Speaker 1: up killing these guys, like I say killing, and again
- 50:02Speaker 1: with the show, like sometimes it's unclear if people are
- 50:07Speaker 1: really dead. The cooks don't seem to be important enough
- 50:13Speaker 1: that they are going to turn up later and be okay.
- 50:19Speaker 1: But there have been plenty of people that I wouldn't
- 50:23Speaker 1: really have thought were worth it, so to speak, that
- 50:26Speaker 1: they did do that with. So I don't know for
- 50:29Speaker 1: all I know we are going to like see them
- 50:31Speaker 1: later and that they wind up surviving all of this somehow,
- 50:37Speaker 1: I don't know. But it was just a moment of
- 50:43Speaker 1: opportunity for it to be explained to us. The audience
- 50:48Speaker 1: that the reason that these guys are like able to
- 50:57Speaker 1: be treated like this, I'm trying to find the word
- 51:01Speaker 1: I want. The reason that she is able to exploit
- 51:06Speaker 1: them is because they are afraid for their lives, and
- 51:13Speaker 1: if they weren't so afraid, they wouldn't be affected. But
- 51:19Speaker 1: it's sort of impossible to not be afraid for your
- 51:22Speaker 1: life when you are facing her down and she's doing this,
- 51:27Speaker 1: So that gives us the setup for later on when
- 51:31Speaker 1: we have this whole thing happen with Jimbei, because the
- 51:39Speaker 1: face down that he does with her, she keeps trying
- 51:43Speaker 1: to harm him and nothing is happening, and she's just
- 51:46Speaker 1: sort of like, why isn't it working? What the fuck?
- 51:48Speaker 1: So we will get there, but first we have to
- 51:51Speaker 1: have a little bit of a flashback to what was
- 51:54Speaker 1: going on between Lufy and Beget, because Lufy had been
- 52:01Speaker 1: saying before about how he wanted to make a funny entrance,
- 52:03Speaker 1: and Bejet was getting annoyed and being like, it doesn't
- 52:06Speaker 1: have to be funny, we just need to get this
- 52:08Speaker 1: thing done, to which Lufy makes an actually cogent response
- 52:13Speaker 1: of I will still get it done. I can be funny.
- 52:16Speaker 1: At the same time it's fine, And I was like,
- 52:20Speaker 1: you know what, he's not wrong. I don't want to
- 52:22Speaker 1: side with Lufy on this. I don't, not really, but
- 52:26Speaker 1: I have to acknowledge that you know that's true. You don't.
- 52:30Speaker 1: It's not one or the other. The thing is, when
- 52:33Speaker 1: it's Loofy, it does sort of feel like it's one
- 52:37Speaker 1: or the other. It does sort of feel like you know,
- 52:41Speaker 1: like you I don't know. So anyway, what it turns
- 52:47Speaker 1: out he was getting all of those animals together for
- 52:52Speaker 1: was because he was going to have Ballet turn the
- 52:56Speaker 1: animals into copies of himself. And then they put a
- 53:00Speaker 1: mirror inside the cake and they have all of the
- 53:05Speaker 1: animals go through the mirror doorway and interrupt by busting
- 53:12Speaker 1: out of the cake itself and ruining everybody's day. Amazing,
- 53:20Speaker 1: no notes, none whatsoever. You guys, you know that I
- 53:25Speaker 1: don't off inside with Loofy when it comes to this stuff.
- 53:30Speaker 1: But what am I supposed to do? Like this is
- 53:35Speaker 1: just a very good plan. It's a one to two punch.
- 53:40Speaker 1: You have the distraction and the utter mayhem of all
- 53:43Speaker 1: of these animals running around, and you have shitting all
- 53:49Speaker 1: over the thing that Big Mom is so excited about
- 53:51Speaker 1: the cake itself. I mean, I'm hard pressed to think
- 53:57Speaker 1: of a better way to give her the finger and
- 54:00Speaker 1: get this party started. It's a perfect combination, you know,
- 54:04Speaker 1: I don't know, it's just like, as soon as I
- 54:08Speaker 1: realize exactly how this was going, I was sort of like, oh, yeah,
- 54:14Speaker 1: that's pretty fucking solid actually, And you know, to his credit,
- 54:19Speaker 1: Beij is rolling with it and seeing the benefits of
- 54:26Speaker 1: this plan himself until the moment when big Mom is
- 54:33Speaker 1: like show yourself. And it is such a great moment
- 54:37Speaker 1: because you know, as soon as Bej is like why
- 54:42Speaker 1: would he do that? Of course he's not gonna show himself,
- 54:46Speaker 1: Like all of us were like, yeah he is, of
- 54:48Speaker 1: course he is. You know, we know Loufy at this
- 54:51Speaker 1: point and I was fully just like here it comes,
- 54:58Speaker 1: wait for it, and and yeah, he comes through dead last.
- 55:04Speaker 1: He's the fine. He lets all the animals go before him,
- 55:08Speaker 1: and we do see. I also want to point out
- 55:12Speaker 1: another somebody coming down the side of the cake as well.
- 55:17Speaker 1: It's not the real Loofy, but it's also not a
- 55:20Speaker 1: copy that the animals are. The animals look like actual
- 55:25Speaker 1: full on copies. Their facial expressions might not look like loofy,
- 55:29Speaker 1: but their bodies do, but this other one it doesn't.
- 55:33Speaker 1: It looks like a marionette a little bit like kind
- 55:36Speaker 1: of a Pinocchio vibe. And we then when we come
- 55:45Speaker 1: to the present and Lufy just like outs himself so
- 55:49Speaker 1: to speak to big Mom and is just like, here
- 55:52Speaker 1: I am, what are you gonna do about it? I
- 55:55Speaker 1: was just like, yeah, that makes sense, and poor Begi
- 55:58Speaker 1: is just like whah, why did he do it? And
- 56:02Speaker 1: I'm like, because he's very dumb, Beggie. I love Lufy,
- 56:07Speaker 1: but you know he isn't that smart. He came up
- 56:11Speaker 1: with this decent plan, but it was because it was funny.
- 56:14Speaker 1: It wasn't because it was a smart Like what Beggi's
- 56:19Speaker 1: saying is this is obviously a huge distraction, so why
- 56:22Speaker 1: would he tell you which one is him? That is
- 56:25Speaker 1: not what Lufy was going for in executing this plan.
- 56:29Speaker 1: It wasn't how excited he was for a big distraction
- 56:33Speaker 1: that is incidental to how fun it is to bust
- 56:37Speaker 1: out of a cake with a bunch of copies of yourself.
- 56:39Speaker 1: It's a completely different objective. So Benji thinks that he
- 56:43Speaker 1: understands and he doesn't. He's being tactical about it. Loofy
- 56:48Speaker 1: is just here for the showmanship. He is the class
- 56:51Speaker 1: clown right now, you know. So Beggi is just so
- 56:56Speaker 1: certain that, like this is going to be handled a
- 56:59Speaker 1: certain way, and then Luff he doesn't do that, and
- 57:01Speaker 1: he's like surprise, Pikachi face, and I'm going over here,
- 57:04Speaker 1: like how do you not know who it is you're
- 57:06Speaker 1: working with? By now? Bro? Come now? And as this
- 57:12Speaker 1: is all going down, we have this you know thing
- 57:17Speaker 1: with Kardakuri and his like realization that, oh, I think
- 57:23Speaker 1: the reason that he is coming at you is not
- 57:27Speaker 1: actually to hurt you. I think he's trying to come
- 57:31Speaker 1: for the portrait of your mother. And if he is,
- 57:38Speaker 1: this means that somebody inside warned him about how important
- 57:45Speaker 1: this is to you. This is somebody who has insider info,
- 57:50Speaker 1: and that means there's a traitor and who could it be?
- 57:57Speaker 1: And Jimbay just straight out and it's like, hey, it's me,
- 58:02Speaker 1: the trader with no compunction whatsoever. It's so funny. He's like,
- 58:07Speaker 1: I'm the one who told him, and Big Mom is like,
- 58:09Speaker 1: so were you telling me you're a trader? And Jimbay
- 58:13Speaker 1: in the first moment of me being delighted by him, goes.
- 58:18Speaker 1: I would say that is a fair assessment of the situation,
- 58:22Speaker 1: which is just honestly hysterical to me, just being like, uh, yeah,
- 58:30Speaker 1: I think that's right. Yeah, I think that's a fair
- 58:33Speaker 1: fair way to see this is I'm a huge trader
- 58:37Speaker 1: who's turning his back on you. Yeah, pretty much. I
- 58:40Speaker 1: was just cracking up. And then he does like the
- 58:43Speaker 1: whole and I'm leaving you and I'm joining the straw
- 58:45Speaker 1: Hat Pirates, and Lufy gets this shocked face, and I'm like,
- 58:47Speaker 1: I thought we all knew this already. That's the one
- 58:50Speaker 1: thing about like how things will happen in this show
- 58:55Speaker 1: sometimes is folks will all act surprise, like we didn't
- 58:59Speaker 1: have this convo. I was like, I thought, like this
- 59:02Speaker 1: was we all knew this was the point. But regardless, yes,
- 59:07Speaker 1: he is fully uh you know, copying to the fact
- 59:13Speaker 1: that he is turning his back on Big Mom. And
- 59:16Speaker 1: so she begins to try and use her ability on
- 59:19Speaker 1: him to like take his life for us. But surprise, motherfucker,
- 59:25Speaker 1: he's not afraid. He isn't worried about, you know, like
- 59:31Speaker 1: losing his life. There's no sense of fear, so her
- 59:36Speaker 1: ability simply doesn't work right on him, it's not doing anything,
- 59:42Speaker 1: and she's getting pretty salty about it, which I find
- 59:46Speaker 1: very fun because like I understand that it's gonna be
- 59:50Speaker 1: a very rare person that isn't afraid of death and
- 59:54Speaker 1: how do you even like deal with that when it
- 59:57Speaker 1: begins to pop up? Like what you know? So yeah,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: it's uh, I just this. This is the first time,
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: like I said that, I was really enjoying Jimbe because
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: like I don't care about him much, and every now
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: and then he pops up and he does something absolutely clutch,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: and I'm just sort of like, oh you even then
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: he's super useful, but it's not enough to make him interesting.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: But here I at least had a moment of like
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: there we go, okay, nice, you know, And then at
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: the very last like moment, as it's feeling like okay,
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: we've got this under control, we have loofy like gripped
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: up because like he got caught up in the sticky
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: thing that is category is like mochi ability. Mochi is
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: super sticky. It's why it's coated in that powder. So
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: you need water like of some kind to get out
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: to get free of it because it sort of I
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: guess dissolves it a little bit, but it seemed like
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: they had Loofy gripped up, but jimbe frees him and
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: then you know, cops this whole thing. But Category is
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: sort of feeling like, well, at least I have figured
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: out exactly what it is he's really after, and I
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: can protect the portrait, and he's got his eyes on
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: Loofy and thus misses that there is somebody else coming
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: up from behind who hits the portrait with a hammer
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: and breaks it into like ten pieces and he looks
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: into the camera and giggles and it's Brooks laugh. But
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: it just doesn't look like Brooke because he is this
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: weird kind of Loofy copy, but like not a proper copy.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: He just looks so weird, guys, he really does. And yeah,
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: it's a good like surprise attack. And that is the
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: end of episode two. So I don't know how Bonker's
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: big mom is going to go because of this, Like
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: I feel like that being warned this is what they
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: are going after. There are certain personalities who would push
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: themselves to be as level headed in this moment as
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: they could because they are aware the point of this
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: is to throw me off and to make this whole scene,
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: and I'm not going to give them the satisfaction because
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: it would be falling into their hands or into their
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: trap or whatever. I do not think Big Mom has
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: enough self control to avoid that. She is somebody who
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: is going to get as upset as she's going to get.
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: It's simply impossible from what I see of her to
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: like sidestep it. She just isn't. She just doesn't have
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: self control on a lot of levels. And that seems
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: to be like a big, you know, failing of hers.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: So I guess we are going to see how this
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: all shakes out. And I'm really curious about like how
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: long Brook's disguise is going to last as well, because
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: she thought that Brooke was dead, that he was like
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: the little creature that she woke up with in her hand.
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: And is it going to change anything for her if
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: she sees that it's Brooke who is still alive and
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: he's the one who did this, Like will it matter?
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Will you know? I don't know. I don't know how
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: much that's going to play into anything, if at all,
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: But yeah, I am very interested to see the next
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: one and see how much she falls into their trap
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: because I just feel like it's sort of inevitable. Well,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: we'll have to see everybody. I gotta wrap up. Thank
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: you all again so much for hanging out with me.
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: Thank you Florian for commissioning this one and being in
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: the chat and whatnot. Appreciate you very much. And until
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: the next time, do the lou motherfuckers. That was an
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: Unspoiled Network podcast.
