Latest / The Next Round / The Next Round: Alabama EXPOSED by Tennessee? Auburn's SEC Upset Shakes Up College Football Playoff Race
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: We'll get to what we saw last night here in
- 0:02Speaker 1: the opening segment and then turn our attention to college football,
- 0:07Speaker 1: where we have conversations about handling big wins, something that
- 0:11Speaker 1: some teams have struggled to.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Do this year.
- 0:14Speaker 1: They get a big win one week and then have
- 0:16Speaker 1: a letdown the next week. That's part of parity in
- 0:19Speaker 1: college football. And we'll get to the conversation about the
- 0:22Speaker 1: 2014 college football playoff. It was last weekend a wonderful
- 0:26Speaker 1: time to have chaos there. for those that are trying
- 0:29Speaker 1: to push 24 teams through the finish line here. As
- 0:32Speaker 1: we get going today on Sporting State, we're the next round.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Jim Dunaway, Lance Taylor, Ryan Brown, the guys behind the glass, Forrester, Brooks,
- 0:40Speaker 1: and Tyler back there giving you all the X's and
- 0:43Speaker 1: O's and the bells and whistles we need to make
- 0:46Speaker 1: our show successful here. A little personal note first. Congratulations
- 0:49Speaker 1: to the Tampa Bay Rays. They are the American League
- 0:52Speaker 1: champions for the third time. Didn't come into existence until 1998.
- 0:58Speaker 1: And now since 98, they've got three AL championships. Small market,
- 1:02Speaker 1: $ 98 million is their roster. They do more with less. Basically,
- 1:08Speaker 1: they're a AAA team. Our stars end up going to
- 1:11Speaker 1: be big stars for other teams. But they put it
- 1:14Speaker 1: together this year. Really exciting team. And now it's them
- 1:17Speaker 1: and the Brewers in the World Series, too. Two teams
- 1:21Speaker 1: that sort of play old school small ball baseball sometimes.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, look, both these teams are red hot. Obviously,
- 1:27Speaker 2: that's how you get to a World Series. But this
- 1:29Speaker 2: is the first World Series matchup since 1980 Royals-Phillies that
- 1:33Speaker 2: neither team has won a World Series. So both seeking
- 1:36Speaker 2: their first ever World Series championship. I think the Brewers
- 1:40Speaker 2: have obviously got the momentum. They're going to be the
- 1:42Speaker 2: favorite here. I haven't checked what that number is right now.
- 1:45Speaker 2: I would say they're probably minus 140, minus 150 for
- 1:47Speaker 2: the series. But your Rays played well. Cameron Arrow's had
- 1:52Speaker 2: a hell of a year. He really has.
- 1:54Speaker 1: The 23-year-old had a home run off of the short
- 1:57Speaker 1: porch in left field last night.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Took him a minute to get around the bases. He
- 2:01Speaker 2: likes to celebrate. 38.7 seconds. Is that too much? I
- 2:06Speaker 2: read it. Is that too much? I don't know why
- 2:09Speaker 2: we tracked this. Just a bit.
- 2:10Speaker 3: I read that it was the second slowest in the
- 2:12Speaker 3: stat cast history, I believe. I'm not sure why we're
- 2:15Speaker 3: tracking laps around the base. When did we roll stat cast?
- 2:18Speaker 1: That is what I don't know. Well, what's the longest one?
- 2:21Speaker 1: Because I cannot imagine it being longer. Because he stopped
- 2:24Speaker 1: the trot to walk out because is it fair, is
- 2:27Speaker 1: it foul? But then he stops right before he gets
- 2:29Speaker 1: first base and turns around. screams at the Rays dugout
- 2:33Speaker 1: and celebrates.
- 2:34Speaker 2: But that was the moment you knew they had clinched
- 2:36Speaker 2: a pennant, pretty much. Well, that made it 5-1.
- 2:38Speaker 1: They brought the guy who doesn't look at home plate
- 2:42Speaker 1: when he throws from the bullpen and he walks with
- 2:45Speaker 1: the bases loaded and then he hits a guy and
- 2:47Speaker 1: it's 5-3 again. Then Diaz, Yandy hits a home run.
- 2:50Speaker 1: That's when I knew. In the bottom of the eighth.
- 2:55Speaker 1: He comes around and slow trots it and then he
- 2:57Speaker 1: gets home and before he touches home plate, he turns
- 2:59Speaker 1: to Randy O'Reilly.
- 3:03Speaker 4: Rosarino.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Rosarino now plays somewhere else, but he used to be
- 3:07Speaker 1: a raise, and he's in the stands for some reason,
- 3:09Speaker 1: and he's behind the backstop, and they sit there and
- 3:12Speaker 1: they do this to each other before he even touches
- 3:14Speaker 1: home plate.
- 3:15Speaker 2: It was a lot there.
- 3:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:18Speaker 1: If I'd been the Guardians pitcher, I'd have drilled the
- 3:21Speaker 1: next guy, even though it's not regular season baseball.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Or drill him when he's celebrating.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Yeah, that would have been good. Yeah, I mean, it's
- 3:26Speaker 3: not a moving target, Lance. You could easily hit him
- 3:29Speaker 3: if you're a major league pitcher. But I used to say,
- 3:32Speaker 3: you know, because it was my friend Dirty in college
- 3:36Speaker 3: that made me become a Tampa Bay Rays fan because
- 3:38Speaker 3: I was a Buccaneers fan. And he had this rule
- 3:41Speaker 3: you couldn't pick and choose that if you were going
- 3:43Speaker 3: to be a Bucs fan, you couldn't be like a
- 3:45Speaker 3: Cincinnati Reds fan. Like I was when I was a kid.
- 3:48Speaker 3: I love how he's got these rules.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I lined up like that. I didn't know the rule,
- 3:52Speaker 2: but I just, I picked all LA.
- 3:54Speaker 1: He's a big Houston fan. So he's like, so he
- 3:57Speaker 1: was a Houston Oilers fan. So he's like, I've got
- 3:59Speaker 1: to be the Rockets and I got to be the Astros.
- 4:01Speaker 2: So I was like, well, you better pick it. You
- 4:03Speaker 2: better pick carefully.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I was like, well, Tampa Bay just has the Buccaneers.
- 4:07Speaker 1: And then they became the lightning and the rays. And,
- 4:10Speaker 1: I jumped on board with them. So since 1998, I've
- 4:13Speaker 1: been a Rays fan.
- 4:14Speaker 2: God, I hate to have to be a Marlins and
- 4:15Speaker 2: Heat fan.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Well, the Rays have been equally horrible to start with.
- 4:18Speaker 1: They never were above 500 until Madden got there.
- 4:21Speaker 2: When they were wearing the uniforms they wore last night.
- 4:23Speaker 1: And I used to tell you all the time, I
- 4:24Speaker 1: was like, if they could just be around 500 until
- 4:27Speaker 1: college football starts, that's a win for me.
- 4:29Speaker 2: That's all I care about.
- 4:31Speaker 1: And now, as we're back to our third World Series,
- 4:33Speaker 1: what is happening in my world?
- 4:35Speaker 2: College football.
- 4:36Speaker 1: No, college football, yes. But I leave to go to Ireland.
- 4:39Speaker 1: And the entire series is played. I mean, we'll stretch
- 4:43Speaker 1: out the NBA Finals for, it seems like, a whole month.
- 4:48Speaker 1: They will play the entire seven-game World Series. And there'll
- 4:51Speaker 1: be no rainouts because both of these are domed stadiums
- 4:53Speaker 1: or retractable roofs. And the entire time I am in Ireland,
- 4:57Speaker 1: they'll play the entire seven.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Well, I think that shows you the power of football.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Why would we extend this out when we're having to
- 5:03Speaker 2: go up against these heavyweights? So those will be morning games?
- 5:06Speaker 2: I checked last night. In the sixth inning, it's two
- 5:09Speaker 2: in the morning in Dublin. You'll be fine. I mean,
- 5:11Speaker 2: I got up for the NFL draft when I was over.
- 5:14Speaker 2: We set alarm and was up until 536 in the
- 5:17Speaker 2: morning watching the draft.
- 5:19Speaker 1: One buddy who's going with me and his wife, and
- 5:22Speaker 1: he's one of my golfing buddies as well, Ben, He's
- 5:25Speaker 1: a night owl. Like, he's the kind of guy that
- 5:28Speaker 1: I wake up in the morning, and I will have
- 5:31Speaker 1: texts or DMs about some funny video he's seen, you know,
- 5:35Speaker 1: some of the stuff I.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Forward to you. Trash. You're like at 2 in the morning.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Actually come from Ben. When I'm asleep, he's awake.
- 5:40Speaker 1: I got those friends. And he's a nice drinker, too.
- 5:42Speaker 1: So he's already told me. He's like, I guess we're
- 5:44Speaker 1: staying up while the girls are asleep watching.
- 5:45Speaker 2: The World Series. That's fun. Yeah, you've got to plan
- 5:47Speaker 2: it out pretty good, though. Like, we went and took, like,
- 5:51Speaker 2: I think it was like a— maybe 10 or 11 o'clock,
- 5:54Speaker 2: went to sleep, woke up. Your rhythm's going to be
- 5:57Speaker 2: thrown off over there anyway. Yeah, yeah.
- 6:00Speaker 1: So as our skipper likes to say, Kevin Cash, nobody sleeps.
- 6:05Speaker 2: We'll sleep when it's all over. We'll sleep in November.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Here's that John Rothstein cat that does that in basketball season. Hey,
- 6:11Speaker 3: so there's one thing I can get behind your team on.
- 6:14Speaker 3: I did not know this until today. And Lance may
- 6:16Speaker 3: not know this either.
- 6:17Speaker 2: They are a no meat, no meal team. I know that.
- 6:20Speaker 3: They celebrate with a freaking steak. They celebrate with a tomahawk.
- 6:24Speaker 3: There's no bigger ripoff in a restaurant than a tomahawk steak.
- 6:27Speaker 3: But for purposes of business.
- 6:29Speaker 2: I don't think I've ever ordered one. You shouldn't. I
- 6:31Speaker 2: think a lot of people do it to share, though, right? Yeah,
- 6:34Speaker 2: but you're paying money for bone. I like a bone-in.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Don't get me wrong. I like a bone-in steak, but
- 6:38Speaker 2: the tomahawk has the extended bone, and you're just paying
- 6:41Speaker 2: for that. Technically, you could get a tomahawk for an
- 6:44Speaker 2: appetizer for people to share if people aren't getting steak.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Before our man went to Oak House— We used to
- 6:51Speaker 1: go to his old place.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right. And they would have tomahawk Tuesdays. That's right.
- 6:56Speaker 2: And I would occasionally go by for tomahawk Tuesday. Yeah.
- 7:00Speaker 2: It was just a good deal.
- 7:01Speaker 1: I assume they were cleaning out the fridge of tomahawks
- 7:04Speaker 1: that were about to go bad.
- 7:05Speaker 3: I love a bone-in ribeye, bone-in filet, but... the tomahawk,
- 7:09Speaker 3: it's got that much extra bone, and that's part of
- 7:12Speaker 3: the weight of the steak, so you're getting less steak,
- 7:13Speaker 3: more bone. But the fact that they do that in
- 7:16Speaker 3: the locker room, I could get behind that team right there.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Well, you wouldn't like Yandy. Yandy Diaz, pictured here. He
- 7:22Speaker 2: likes his medium well. Wait, so do they have a
- 7:24Speaker 2: clubhouse attendance on the grill during the game?
- 7:27Speaker 1: Somebody's cooking them because that's been our playoff motto, one
- 7:30Speaker 1: more bite. Let's get one more bite. Let's get one
- 7:32Speaker 1: more bite. You need four more bites. Yeah, four more wins.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Well, that's a big steak. You've got plenty.
- 7:37Speaker 1: American League champions for the third time in Tampa. And,
- 7:41Speaker 1: you know, it's so funny. This happens with Coleman Coliseum.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Those nationally, that's the basketball arena that Alabama plays in.
- 7:48Speaker 1: When Alabama basketball is not good, that arena gets trashed
- 7:53Speaker 1: all the time. When Alabama basketball is good and the
- 7:56Speaker 1: place is sold out and it's rocking, everybody's like, You know,
- 7:58Speaker 1: Coleman Coliseum.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Isn't that bad. It's not bad. Yeah, you watch the
- 8:02Speaker 2: playoffs with Tropicana Field at 40,000 strong as it was
- 8:06Speaker 2: last night.
- 8:06Speaker 1: You're watching and you're like, man, why are they so
- 8:09Speaker 1: beat up about this place? It's not that bad.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Have you ever been to a game there? I've never
- 8:12Speaker 2: been to a game there. I've been to like five
- 8:14Speaker 2: or six games. I'm not exaggerating. It's crazy you've been
- 8:17Speaker 2: to that many games there. Yeah, I know. Well, there
- 8:18Speaker 2: was a couple of reasons. Okay. I won't ask. Well, no,
- 8:21Speaker 2: I mean, it's, it's not like a scandalous story. I
- 8:25Speaker 2: had to go down there on business a couple of
- 8:27Speaker 2: times and, and the client gave me some tickets. And
- 8:30Speaker 2: then I had a buddy that played professional baseball. But
- 8:33Speaker 2: it is the biggest shithole by far that I've ever
- 8:36Speaker 2: been to as far as like a professional venue. Yeah.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Well, anytime they slanted the roof, I forgot why they,
- 8:42Speaker 1: when they built it, they slanted the roof. It was
- 8:44Speaker 1: not built for baseball. They thought they were going to
- 8:47Speaker 1: get an NFL team or they were going to move
- 8:49Speaker 1: the bucks there or something. They, They slanted the roof
- 8:52Speaker 1: for some reason. I don't know if it was cooling
- 8:54Speaker 1: for the hurricane to try to prevent the wind resistance.
- 8:56Speaker 2: It didn't work, by the way. It was sad. They
- 8:58Speaker 2: had on their, it's like the third level, they had
- 9:00Speaker 2: like the beach club or whatever. And like, you know,
- 9:03Speaker 2: they had the miserable employees walking around with like a
- 9:06Speaker 2: parrot on their shoulder, you know, like didn't want to
- 9:08Speaker 2: be there. And there's like one bum sitting up there drinking.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I mean, like it was just, it was a sad place.
- 9:13Speaker 1: And any place is sort of sad when it's, you know,
- 9:17Speaker 1: I mean, some attendance nights, they've had 7,000 before. We
- 9:21Speaker 1: used to do the stat back in the day that
- 9:23Speaker 1: our local AA team would outdraw the Tampa Bay Rays
- 9:26Speaker 1: on any given night.
- 9:27Speaker 2: But when it was full during the playoffs.
- 9:29Speaker 1: You're like, you know, that place isn't so bad. That
- 9:32Speaker 1: place isn't so bad. New arena, new stadium coming in 2029,
- 9:36Speaker 1: they say. They've been saying that for years.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Yeah, they've been saying that for a long time. That's right.
- 9:39Speaker 2: I always thought Tampa would be Nashville's team. I really did.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I thought they'd move to Nashville, and they never did.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I always thought the Tampa Bay Rays would move to
- 9:47Speaker 1: Nashville and be Nashville, whatever they would name it.
- 9:49Speaker 3: I hope you win it. I got zero rooting interest
- 9:51Speaker 3: in this other than my friendship with you. So, and
- 9:54Speaker 3: I may watch a game or two in the middle
- 9:55Speaker 3: of the week. So I hope you guys want it.
- 9:57Speaker 2: I appreciate it.
- 9:57Speaker 3: I'm not going to give you a weekend game. If
- 9:59Speaker 3: you win it on the weekend, you'll have to let
- 10:00Speaker 3: me know. Yeah, I'm not going to give it a
- 10:01Speaker 3: weekend game.
- 10:01Speaker 2: But in the middle of the week, I'll watch you
- 10:03Speaker 2: guys play in the World Series.
- 10:04Speaker 1: I will say this. I think as far as number
- 10:09Speaker 1: of players that need interpreters to do interviews, I think
- 10:12Speaker 1: we lead the major leagues.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Who is the I Am Japanese? Who do
- 10:16Speaker 2: you play for? He's a White Sox. I was more
- 10:18Speaker 2: a comment. I like that guy. He don't even need
- 10:20Speaker 2: a translator. Just let him roll. He just goes with it.
- 10:24Speaker 1: But, you know, Peralta, the pitcher that the Rays picked up,
- 10:28Speaker 1: won the MVP last night. And I learned something that
- 10:32Speaker 1: I did not know, that the Dominican Republic flag is
- 10:35Speaker 1: the only flag, national flag in the world, That has
- 10:39Speaker 1: the Holy Bible on it.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Did you know that? The DR flag has the Holy
- 10:42Speaker 2: Bible on it?
- 10:43Speaker 1: Yeah, it's part of its crest of arms right in
- 10:45Speaker 1: the middle of the flag. It is the only national
- 10:47Speaker 1: flag in the world that has the Holy Bible.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Dude, we just have a picture of a book. Like,
- 10:52Speaker 2: how do we know it's the Holy Bible? I think
- 10:53Speaker 2: it says Holy Bible on it. Okay, well, that would
- 10:55Speaker 2: settle it. Tyler's about to pull it up for us.
- 10:57Speaker 2: They talked about it in the postgame.
- 10:59Speaker 4: Oh, really?
- 11:00Speaker 2: Yep, they talked about it.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Pedro Martinez and Peralta talked about it in the postgame,
- 11:04Speaker 1: that the Bible is part of their coat of arms there.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Man, Fox is feeding Pedro well. They are. There it is.
- 11:11Speaker 2: It's actually opened up to John. There's a verse in
- 11:13Speaker 2: John that it's opened up to. Can you zoom in, Tyler?
- 11:15Speaker 2: Can you zoom in and we see what verse it is? Boy,
- 11:18Speaker 2: I tell you, this is intricate. You have to get
- 11:19Speaker 2: my Michelson pulled up on this. Look at Tyler. You're
- 11:23Speaker 2: not going to see it there. I don't think so.
- 11:25Speaker 2: I'm curious to the verse now, John. It's John something, something, something.
- 11:30Speaker 2: John something, something, something? Look at it up there. It'll
- 11:32Speaker 2: be under that. I had it written down last night.
- 11:35Speaker 1: I didn't know that until I was watching the postgame
- 11:36Speaker 1: last night.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Hats off to the DR. I mean, look at that.
- 11:40Speaker 2: They're supporting the Holy Bible.
- 11:42Speaker 3: The Bible is traditionally open to John 8, 22, and
- 11:44Speaker 3: the truth shall make you free.
- 11:46Speaker 2: I like that. There you go. How about that? I
- 11:49Speaker 2: never knew that, Jim. Until last night. I'm one day old. Again,
- 11:54Speaker 2: you learn something new every day, right? Yeah, you really do. Yeah,
- 11:56Speaker 2: I'm surprised the Vatican flag does not, Vatican City flag
- 11:59Speaker 2: does not have the Holy Bible on it. That's a
- 12:01Speaker 2: very religious city there. You're questioning my stats that I
- 12:04Speaker 2: threw out? No, no, no. I think the Vatican goes
- 12:06Speaker 2: without saying. I've never seen the Vatican flag. Well, there
- 12:09Speaker 2: it is. Yeah. Vatican flag. A lot of stuff on there.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Watch there be a Bible on here. We got an
- 12:13Speaker 2: upset alert coming up. Those will be tough to draw.
- 12:16Speaker 2: What is that? You got some keys and the Pope hat. Yeah.
- 12:20Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Pope's pretty big there from what I'm told. Big push
- 12:24Speaker 2: to get the Popemobile put on there. Does he have
- 12:25Speaker 2: full access? Does he have a key to the city?
- 12:27Speaker 7: Can't use that, though, because the Pope's a White Sox fan.
- 12:30Speaker 2: That's right. Did you guys ever think, I remember we
- 12:32Speaker 2: had a custodian, his name was Shaq, at Edgewood Elementary
- 12:35Speaker 2: School over in Homewood. Shaq was his name? Shaq was
- 12:37Speaker 2: his name. And he did everything. And we had Shaq Day,
- 12:40Speaker 2: and he got a key to the city. And I
- 12:41Speaker 2: remember the mayor came in, because Shaq had been our custodian.
- 12:44Speaker 2: You know, this is back in the 70s. He had
- 12:46Speaker 2: been our custodian probably since the opening of that school.
- 12:49Speaker 2: And so he was retiring, and they gave him a
- 12:50Speaker 2: key to the city. And Man, I was blown away.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I was like, man, that son of a bitch can
- 12:53Speaker 2: go anywhere now. I really believe the key to the
- 12:56Speaker 2: city would get you anywhere. Did you guys ever think that?
- 13:00Speaker 2: I did not. I really did. I was like, man,
- 13:02Speaker 2: he can go to Aladdin's Castle today. He wants to
- 13:05Speaker 2: go walk around Brookwood Mall. He's got the key. I
- 13:08Speaker 2: was just blown away. I was like, Shaq is the man. Shaq,
- 13:11Speaker 2: can we go to Baskin-Robbins? Shaq, let us in. Let
- 13:13Speaker 2: us in. That's hilarious.
- 13:15Speaker 1: All right, Monday Night Football last night brought to you
- 13:17Speaker 1: by our friends at Hard Rock Pet. I don't know
- 13:20Speaker 1: what side you were on last night, LT.

- 14:08Speaker 1: And tonight, you've got a trio of college football games,
- 14:12Speaker 1: South Alabama and Marshall. South Alabama, three-point favorites. MTSU and
- 14:17Speaker 1: FIU tonight. FIU a 10-point favorite. And Missouri State and Delaware.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Delaware a three-point favorite. All that in college football tonight
- 14:26Speaker 1: with our friends at Hard Rock Bet. We will unveil
- 14:29Speaker 1: our weekly NFL Power Ranking tomorrow on the show. But
- 14:33Speaker 1: San Francisco was across the board number one for us.
- 14:36Speaker 1: last week and they won again last night 23 17
- 14:40Speaker 1: holding off the commanders who tried to come back and
- 14:43Speaker 1: win the game yeah.
- 14:44Speaker 2: I mean it was pretty crazy up 23 3 in
- 14:45Speaker 2: the second half and i was kicking myself i was
- 14:47Speaker 2: like oh my god why did i go against the
- 14:49Speaker 2: best team in the nfl the 49ers and jayden daniels
- 14:53Speaker 2: started playing in the second half and they were creeping
- 14:55Speaker 2: back They had two opportunities late. I don't know how
- 14:57Speaker 2: much of that game you guys watched.
- 14:59Speaker 3: I watched to the end because I gave up on
- 15:01Speaker 3: it and went over to Dunaway's Rays. And I'm like, crap,
- 15:04Speaker 3: Washington came back.
- 15:04Speaker 2: In this thing. That Traylon Burks throw to the pylon,
- 15:08Speaker 2: I thought he was going to come down with it.
- 15:10Speaker 3: It was a great defensive play by Mustafa.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Yeah, made a great play there. But then they get
- 15:14Speaker 2: the ball back with 52 seconds left. They get down
- 15:16Speaker 2: to the 28 and the worst two plays you can imagine.
- 15:19Speaker 2: You get a grounding. And then you get a sack
- 15:21Speaker 2: to end the game. Yeah. Just Jaden Daniels on the grounding.
- 15:25Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Dan Quinn seems lost. I don't know if you guys
- 15:28Speaker 3: have seen the.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Wait, this guy? Yeah, but he had his hat turned
- 15:31Speaker 2: back around. I know. Last night.
- 15:32Speaker 3: Why do you think he did that? Do you think
- 15:36Speaker 3: he finally realized we can't be this bad and not wear.
- 15:38Speaker 2: A backers hat?
- 15:38Speaker 1: I think it was because he had the hat turned
- 15:41Speaker 1: around and he was so bad at the end of
- 15:42Speaker 1: the game. It was the most embarrassing part of his
- 15:44Speaker 1: coaching life. He was turning it around, hiding his face
- 15:47Speaker 1: in shame.
- 15:48Speaker 2: It could just be superstition, like finally, like this, this,
- 15:51Speaker 2: turn the hat around, it ain't going to work.
- 15:52Speaker 3: It ain't working, but I'm not calling it controversy, but
- 15:55Speaker 3: he got caught on camera, apparently not realizing it was
- 15:59Speaker 3: fourth down.
- 16:00Speaker 2: I don't know if you guys saw this. Last night?
- 16:01Speaker 2: Last night. Oh, no.
- 16:03Speaker 3: So they go for a fourth down, which Jaden Daniels
- 16:06Speaker 3: throws the ball away. Again, you're an NFL quarterback. Daniels
- 16:10Speaker 3: continues to make weird decisions. You're an NFL quarterback. You're
- 16:12Speaker 3: throwing the ball in the end zone. Buddy, it's fourth down.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Put the ball in play. See if your guy can
- 16:18Speaker 3: get lucky and make a catch.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Or a pass interference.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Or a pass interference. If it gets intercepted, it doesn't matter.
- 16:22Speaker 3: The one thing you don't do is throw it away.
- 16:24Speaker 4: On fourth down.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Not as egregious as the final play of overtime against
- 16:27Speaker 2: the New York Giants. No. But the situational awareness. It's
- 16:30Speaker 2: just not great. It doesn't make any sense. Like, you
- 16:32Speaker 2: are a NFL quarterback. It's not like he's a rookie either.
- 16:35Speaker 2: He's in year three now.
- 16:36Speaker 3: But they cut to the sideline and you see Dan Quinn.
- 16:40Speaker 3: You can read his lips, say, field goal into the headset.
- 16:42Speaker 3: And then, oh, it was fourth down. And it looks
- 16:47Speaker 3: bad for an NFL coach. Now, in the postgame, he
- 16:49Speaker 3: tried to save it, and I don't think he did
- 16:51Speaker 3: himself any favors in the postgame. But he said there
- 16:55Speaker 3: was an illegal shift penalty, so somebody thought they had
- 16:58Speaker 3: another down and asked if they wanted to kick a
- 17:00Speaker 3: field goal instead of goal for it. And he was saying,
- 17:02Speaker 3: field goal, no, it's fourth down. It was kind of
- 17:05Speaker 3: a weird conversation. I don't know if that's the way
- 17:08Speaker 3: it went, but just a really bad look at the
- 17:10Speaker 3: end of the game for Washington altogether.
- 17:11Speaker 1: A couple of other notes from the NFL college football
- 17:14Speaker 1: in our next segment.
- 17:16Speaker 2: McLaren carted off in that game. Yeah, and they're saying
- 17:19Speaker 2: it's a significant knee injury.
- 17:21Speaker 1: For the Rams, and I don't know where they'll be
- 17:24Speaker 1: in anybody's NFL ranking coming up, but they are trending down.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Word yesterday that Adams is out six to ten weeks.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Six to ten weeks. They're going to do a procedure
- 17:32Speaker 2: on the hamstring. I mean, I don't know. I mean,
- 17:34Speaker 2: I'm looking at the injury report right now. I was
- 17:35Speaker 2: telling you guys for the show. Puna Ford out for
- 17:39Speaker 2: the season. Blake Grupe comes in placed on IR because
- 17:42Speaker 2: he tears his ACL trying to make a tackle. Kobe
- 17:46Speaker 2: Turner placed on IR. Miles Garrett will not practice this week.
- 17:50Speaker 2: So we still don't know the status there. What a
- 17:52Speaker 2: waste of Miles Garrett. To give up who you gave
- 17:56Speaker 2: up to get Miles Garrett. It's just been... You know,
- 18:00Speaker 2: and that's why you've got to be able to close
- 18:01Speaker 2: the deal when you have your window. The NFL, and
- 18:04Speaker 2: that was what was so amazing about the Patriots, they
- 18:06Speaker 2: were able to have this, you know, almost two-decade window. But, man,
- 18:09Speaker 2: when you've got it, last year, in my opinion, I
- 18:12Speaker 2: know they didn't win it. The Rams were the best team,
- 18:14Speaker 2: and they had every opportunity to win it. Special teams
- 18:16Speaker 2: cost them, and now this super team is two and four. Like, massive,
- 18:21Speaker 2: massive players. are going to be out for a long time,
- 18:26Speaker 2: and this is obviously going to end up being a
- 18:28Speaker 2: disaster year.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Trending in a bad direction. And then the final thing
- 18:32Speaker 1: from the NFL I wanted to bring up, because last
- 18:34Speaker 1: week we talked about Troy Aikman, and I played that
- 18:36Speaker 1: for you guys on Friday, Troy Aikman on Dallas Radio
- 18:39Speaker 1: saying that he and Joe Buck have gotten on the
- 18:42Speaker 1: wrong side of each other after a 25-year friendship in
- 18:44Speaker 1: the booth. ESPN and ABC have signed Joe Buck to
- 18:48Speaker 1: a long-term contract. Troy, they have not really broached the
- 18:52Speaker 1: subject of his new contract out. Word has leaked out
- 18:56Speaker 1: that ABC ESPN, the producers of Money on Football, asked
- 19:01Speaker 1: Pat McAfee to do an audition in the booth.
- 19:05Speaker 2: That's a good one. And McAfee turned them down. Oh, really? Well,
- 19:09Speaker 2: I mean, my God, the guy's doing everything.
- 19:10Speaker 1: McAfee said, I wouldn't be a horrible fit to be
- 19:15Speaker 1: in a quiet broadcast booth restricted up there, not walking
- 19:19Speaker 1: around on the sidelines. It's a no-go for him.
- 19:22Speaker 2: That's pretty good self-awareness. Yeah, I'm glad he recognized that
- 19:24Speaker 2: because it's true. Yeah, it's true.
- 19:26Speaker 1: So my question is, you already have the Manning cast
- 19:29Speaker 1: on another channel on most games.
- 19:31Speaker 2: They do that. Do you think.
- 19:33Speaker 1: ABC, ESPN is looking after this Super Bowl that they've
- 19:37Speaker 1: got to be buttoned up for with Troy and Buck?
- 19:41Speaker 1: Do you think they're looking for some kind of alternative
- 19:43Speaker 1: channel out of the box thinking because aren't they the
- 19:47Speaker 1: people that brought us Rush Limbaugh to Monday Night Football?
- 19:49Speaker 2: And Dennis Miller. And Dennis Miller. Yeah, I mean, last
- 19:51Speaker 2: time they tried to go, quote-unquote, out-of-the-box, it was a disaster. Yeah,
- 19:55Speaker 2: I mean, out-of-the-box is the Manning cast. You know, really, hey.
- 19:57Speaker 2: But those numbers have declined. Yeah, well, I was going
- 19:59Speaker 2: to say, you don't want to pay money. You don't
- 20:01Speaker 2: want to spend money. Don't renew Joe Buck. Just have
- 20:04Speaker 2: the Manning cast out there. I mean, I know it
- 20:06Speaker 2: would be untraditional. Older people wouldn't like it. I've watched
- 20:09Speaker 2: it less and less. I used to watch the Manning
- 20:10Speaker 2: cast some. I haven't watched it in a year and
- 20:12Speaker 2: a half. I've watched it less and less, and the
- 20:14Speaker 2: numbers are declining.
- 20:14Speaker 1: And that's my point is, do you think the Manning
- 20:19Speaker 1: cast goes away and they let Troy walk and they
- 20:23Speaker 1: end up going Joe Buck, Peyton Manning?
- 20:26Speaker 2: Or Joe, Peyton, and Eli?
- 20:27Speaker 6: Okay.
- 20:29Speaker 2: I mean, I'm in the booth.
- 20:30Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 20:30Speaker 2: I mean, you can do it. If those guys want
- 20:33Speaker 2: to travel, but I mean, Peyton and Eli are stationary.
- 20:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I mean, they're doing that from their basement, which is
- 20:38Speaker 2: a huge plus for them. I'm sure. I mean, I guess.
- 20:42Speaker 3: I guess that would be appealing to Peyton Manning. He's
- 20:43Speaker 3: got a lot of money. I don't know that he
- 20:44Speaker 3: needs the money. I don't know that Eli needs the money. But,
- 20:46Speaker 3: I mean, Troy Aikman probably didn't either. He doesn't.
- 20:50Speaker 2: I mean, a lot of these guys like being on
- 20:51Speaker 2: the road. I mean, it keeps them close to the game.
- 20:53Speaker 2: You've got that feel, travel, excitement, all that kind of stuff.
- 20:57Speaker 2: That's not a bad idea.
- 20:58Speaker 3: You're certainly visible. I think that's what kills a lot
- 21:01Speaker 3: of pro athletes is when they lose their visibility.
- 21:02Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 21:03Speaker 1: And then the other side is that the belief is
- 21:06Speaker 1: that Herbstreet is the backup plan for for the Thursday
- 21:11Speaker 1: Night Football prime.
- 21:13Speaker 2: I forget who they're going after. McVay is the rumor. Oh,
- 21:15Speaker 2: that's right. McVay is the rumor.
- 21:18Speaker 3: In fact, it got reported that Herb Street just signed
- 21:21Speaker 3: his contract, and there was a quote-unquote McVay out in
- 21:25Speaker 3: that contract.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Yeah, so I wonder if Herb Street on Monday Night Football,
- 21:29Speaker 1: that would tighten up his week a little bit to
- 21:33Speaker 1: do all the stuff he does for ESPN. He would
- 21:35Speaker 1: go in for game day then straight, do game day,
- 21:38Speaker 1: the Saturday night game, and then Sunday move to Monday
- 21:41Speaker 1: night football, do Monday night football home on Tuesday.
- 21:44Speaker 2: It would tighten up his weeks and make it a
- 21:47Speaker 2: little bit better for him.
- 21:47Speaker 3: So what's interesting about that is this is about the
- 21:49Speaker 3: time of year where this happens every year for him.
- 21:51Speaker 3: He's starting to catch criticism that he's working too much
- 21:54Speaker 3: because of a gaffe he made at the end of
- 21:55Speaker 3: the BYU-Notre Dame game. Now, I think when a guy
- 21:59Speaker 3: makes a mistake and people are like, oh, see, he's
- 22:00Speaker 3: working too much. You can't pay attention. But When Notre
- 22:03Speaker 3: Dame is driving, Herb Street, I think twice, at least once,
- 22:06Speaker 3: said they're going to try to win this thing in regulation. Well,
- 22:08Speaker 3: they were down four.
- 22:08Speaker 2: They had no other choice but to try to win
- 22:10Speaker 2: it in regulation, and Fowler had to gently correct him.
- 22:13Speaker 3: And that's when people say he's too busy. He can't
- 22:15Speaker 3: even keep up with the game he's doing because he's
- 22:17Speaker 3: working so much. Well, technically, they were trying to win
- 22:19Speaker 3: it in regulation. Yeah, Kirk was not wrong about that.
- 22:22Speaker 3: So I don't know, Lance. I don't know if he
- 22:24Speaker 3: works too much. I like Herb Street. I think he
- 22:26Speaker 3: does great in college. That Thursday night product is pretty
- 22:30Speaker 3: stale to me. The games aren't great. Al Michaels is way, way, way,
- 22:34Speaker 3: way past his prime. He's one of the best to
- 22:37Speaker 3: ever do it. And Herbstreet is just, I get a
- 22:39Speaker 3: lot of Herbstreet, you know?
- 22:41Speaker 2: I don't know. It doesn't excite me much. But I
- 22:43Speaker 2: don't know who you could put in the Monday Night
- 22:44Speaker 2: Football booth that would excite me. Yeah, I'm right there
- 22:46Speaker 2: with you. I mean, it's just the game. Troy Aikman. Yeah.
- 22:51Speaker 3: And I'd love it for our guy Orlovsky. Would love
- 22:53Speaker 3: it for Orlovsky. I don't know if it will happen
- 22:55Speaker 3: for him. It's what he desperately wants. Dan has been
- 22:58Speaker 3: open about that, and I would love it for him.
- 23:01Speaker 3: But I'm either going to watch the game or not,
- 23:03Speaker 3: depending on who's playing, right? I mean, Troy Aikman does
- 23:06Speaker 3: not suck me into Monday Night Football. He's good at
- 23:07Speaker 3: what he does.
- 23:08Speaker 2: You put up with a lot of bad announcers to
- 23:10Speaker 2: watch the games you want to watch. Correct, yeah.
- 23:13Speaker 1: All right, that's our NFL for the week, or for
- 23:15Speaker 1: the day. We'll get to college football when we come back.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Is there something to a big win, and then you
- 23:21Speaker 1: have to turn around and get your feet on the
- 23:24Speaker 1: ground and get right? Before you play another game, especially
- 23:28Speaker 1: this year in the SEC, we'll talk about teams that
- 23:30Speaker 1: have to do that, Auburn. This week as LSU comes
- 23:33Speaker 1: to town, that's on the other side on the next
- 23:36Speaker 1: round presented by Hard Rock Bet here on Sporting State.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 23:42Speaker 2: This is Coach's chair.
- 23:43Speaker 6: What?
- 23:44Speaker 2: We protect Coach's chair the way Hard Rock Bet protects
- 23:46Speaker 2: Coach's account.
- 23:47Speaker 5: Hard Rock Bet keeps Coach's info safe. Hard Rock Bet
- 23:50Speaker 5: keeps Coach's money safe. And we keep Coach safe.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Hey, fellas. Coach. How about that protection? Can I grab
- 24:01Speaker 2: a wing? Coach's wings. I guess I'll sit on the ground.
- 24:03Speaker 2: That's where Coach puts his feet. Safe and secure betting
- 24:05Speaker 2: from the very first tap. Great to meet you, Coach.
- 24:08Speaker 2: It was Coach's pleasure.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Back with you on the Sporting State next round today.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Brought to you by our friends at Hard Rock Bet there.
- 24:19Speaker 1: We're going to get to our upset alert in our
- 24:21Speaker 1: next segment right before we get to the top of
- 24:23Speaker 1: the hour. Jeff Collins will join the show coming up
- 24:25Speaker 1: at 1120 Eastern, 1020 Central. The former coach, defensive coordinator
- 24:30Speaker 1: around the SEC, he has some thoughts about what he
- 24:33Speaker 1: saw both in Georgia with Auburn's upset, but also what
- 24:37Speaker 1: he saw with Alabama going down to Tennessee. So we'll
- 24:40Speaker 1: talk to Jeff Collins about that coming up in just
- 24:43Speaker 1: under one hour here on the show. Before we jump
- 24:47Speaker 1: into our college football conversation and look at new contender
- 24:50Speaker 1: Auburn and some others in the SEC, our friends at
- 24:53Speaker 1: Perfect 10 Mortgage.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Bringing you the show. They are indeed.

- 25:57Speaker 1: Lane kiffin lsu they come to play auburn this week
- 25:59Speaker 1: they're about an eight and a half point favor down
- 26:02Speaker 1: to jordan hair stadium i think i saw it dip
- 26:03Speaker 1: down to seven and a half last night lane kiffin
- 26:06Speaker 1: gets asked about relief syndrome is this a real thing
- 26:11Speaker 1: uh around the sec and in college football and is
- 26:14Speaker 1: there a chance that auburn has to deal with it
- 26:17Speaker 1: this week here's lane.
- 26:18Speaker 6: It'll be a big talking point all week about a
- 26:21Speaker 6: letdown spot for Auburn after winning on the road. I'm
- 26:23Speaker 6: curious in your experience, NFL or college, is that something
- 26:27Speaker 6: that we all talk about or is that a real
- 26:29Speaker 6: thing internally at either level where you protect against a
- 26:33Speaker 6: letdown after a big win?
- 26:35Speaker 9: No, that's a real thing. Relief syndrome is real and
- 26:39Speaker 9: doesn't mean we're going to win this week and they're
- 26:41Speaker 9: going to lose, but that is a real thing. That's
- 26:43Speaker 9: a real challenge. And Especially now, I say all the time,
- 26:48Speaker 9: I think it's a harder challenge now because of all
- 26:50Speaker 9: the access on their phones of people and media and
- 26:54Speaker 9: all the stuff they see in social media. You start
- 26:58Speaker 9: to be told how great you are when you have
- 27:00Speaker 9: those ones. I was rooting for them at the end
- 27:02Speaker 9: of the game to win when we were playing the
- 27:03Speaker 9: next week just because that makes it more challenging.
- 27:08Speaker 2: So he was rooting for Auburn against his friend Kirby
- 27:10Speaker 2: at the end. But he's got a point. No, that
- 27:12Speaker 2: makes sense. I mean, it really does. And it's as
- 27:15Speaker 2: unpredictable as everything is right now in college football. Some
- 27:17Speaker 2: of these things are somewhat predictable. And I think they're
- 27:22Speaker 2: in a better spot with Auburn coming off the win.
- 27:24Speaker 8: I really do.
- 27:24Speaker 3: And I'm not, I can't say what I'm about to say.
- 27:27Speaker 3: And it sounds anything other than I'm trying to diminish
- 27:30Speaker 3: Auburn's win at Georgia. But please hear me. I'm not
- 27:33Speaker 3: doing that. But guys, you watched the game. Georgia got
- 27:35Speaker 3: up 14 to nothing and something changed there. Now, Auburn changed, right?
- 27:40Speaker 3: Auburn definitely changed. They played better when it was 14-0.
- 27:43Speaker 3: But I think if you're stepping back and being realistic,
- 27:46Speaker 3: you've got to say something changed with Georgia too, didn't it?
- 27:49Speaker 3: Like you moved to number one. You get the biggest
- 27:51Speaker 3: win in the nation. You go up 14-0 on Auburn.
- 27:54Speaker 3: The human nature in you, which is we hear this
- 27:56Speaker 3: all the time from Nick Saban, and I'm sure you
- 27:58Speaker 3: hear it from Kirby as well and other coaches. The
- 28:00Speaker 3: human nature in you is to say, All right, we're
- 28:03Speaker 3: up 14-0. Boy, we got this one, too, man. Who
- 28:04Speaker 3: we got next week? Oh, we got a bye next week.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Don't we? Then we play Florida in the cocktail party.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Cocktail party. Yeah, yeah. Man, all right.
- 28:10Speaker 3: We got a bye coming up. I get a little rest.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Maybe go see my girl. You know, I mean, that's
- 28:14Speaker 3: just human nature.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Well, and it's almost like you saw two ships passing
- 28:17Speaker 2: in the night at 2.30 this past weekend when Auburn
- 28:20Speaker 2: got a little momentum.
- 28:21Speaker 10: Yep.
- 28:22Speaker 2: And Georgia got fat and happy, and it just started
- 28:24Speaker 2: to go like this. And once Auburn started to believe, then,
- 28:27Speaker 2: you know, they get a little tight. They turn the
- 28:29Speaker 2: ball over. They end up turning it over three times.
- 28:30Speaker 3: And when the margins are that small– If you let
- 28:33Speaker 3: the engine die, it is hard to get it cranked
- 28:35Speaker 3: back to the level you need to win a game
- 28:39Speaker 3: like that.
- 28:40Speaker 2: You're talking relief syndrome in the middle of a game.
- 28:42Speaker 2: You're not even talking after a big win.
- 28:45Speaker 3: It's hard to explain otherwise, Jim. How does Georgia get
- 28:48Speaker 3: up 14-0? They're just controlling the game, and then both
- 28:51Speaker 3: switches flip at the same time.
- 28:53Speaker 2: I also believe going into that game, much like us,
- 28:55Speaker 2: Georgia thought, hey, we go through the motions, we win
- 28:57Speaker 2: this game. We're not going to lose this game. There's
- 28:59Speaker 2: no doubt. And again, that's human nature. 14-0 did nothing
- 29:02Speaker 2: to water that down. Exactly. It only fueled the fire.
- 29:04Speaker 2: And I do think LSU catches a break. I know
- 29:06Speaker 2: LSU fans probably disagree. Another 11 o'clock game. But Jordan
- 29:10Speaker 2: here at 11 o'clock is going to be much different
- 29:11Speaker 2: than if you got Jordan here at 6 o'clock.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Boy, this is a juiced up fan base. It's going
- 29:15Speaker 3: to be as good at 11 o'clock as it possibly
- 29:16Speaker 3: could be.
- 29:17Speaker 2: I believe that.
- 29:18Speaker 3: But if that were a night game, that would be bonkers.
- 29:21Speaker 3: It would be bonkers right now because this is as
- 29:23Speaker 3: fired up as Auburn fans have been.
- 29:26Speaker 2: In an extremely long time. Six years. And your path
- 29:29Speaker 2: to victory is exactly what happened last week. Byron Brown's
- 29:32Speaker 2: got to be a warrior again, and you've got to
- 29:33Speaker 2: force the turnovers. Sam Leavitt is the guy that will
- 29:36Speaker 2: turn it over. So if you're D.J. Durkin, this is
- 29:39Speaker 2: what we've got to do going into this game. Because LSU,
- 29:41Speaker 2: I know they're sitting at 5-2. We've kind of pushed
- 29:45Speaker 2: them to the back burner, and we're not considering them
- 29:48Speaker 2: really a playoff team. But the two losses, one possession
- 29:51Speaker 2: to Ole Miss, and one point in overtime to Kentucky.
- 29:54Speaker 2: I mean... LSU is really, really close.
- 29:57Speaker 3: You know what has also happened with Auburn, and I
- 29:58Speaker 3: don't know, Scott, if Alex Golish was asked about this.
- 30:01Speaker 3: I know Scott watches all the press conference, but I
- 30:05Speaker 3: hope this does not become a storyline because it was
- 30:06Speaker 3: exhausting with both Hugh Freeze and Gus Malzahn. But, Scott,
- 30:09Speaker 3: I don't know if Golish was asked about this, but
- 30:11Speaker 3: a lot of people are speculating he took over play-calling.
- 30:16Speaker 11: I did not catch that.
- 30:18Speaker 2: And I don't know. I don't know. Right. But, I mean,
- 30:20Speaker 2: a lot of people.
- 30:21Speaker 3: Joel Gordon, the Auburn offensive coordinator, was under fire from fans.
- 30:24Speaker 3: A lot of fans were upset with him. And there
- 30:27Speaker 3: has been speculation. And, again, this is fan speculation. I
- 30:30Speaker 3: want to be clear about that. That Alex Golish called
- 30:33Speaker 3: more plays or took over the play calling during the
- 30:36Speaker 3: Georgia game.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Here is Alex Golish talking about having to get his
- 30:39Speaker 1: guys back down now that they are showing up. And
- 30:44Speaker 1: all the bubble discussions as a playoff contender after knocking
- 30:47Speaker 1: off number one, really the best win, best resume win
- 30:51Speaker 1: in college football right now belongs to this guy.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Good win, bad loss.
- 30:57Speaker 8: It has to be the same. And if I've learned
- 30:59Speaker 8: anything in this conference, like you are just good enough
- 31:03Speaker 8: to get your ass beat every Saturday if it ain't right.
- 31:06Speaker 8: Now they all got everybody telling them how good they are.
- 31:10Speaker 8: You know, and I still have 500 some unread texts
- 31:13Speaker 8: on Twitter one phone and God knows how many on
- 31:15Speaker 8: the other, like, like after the Florida game, I only
- 31:18Speaker 8: had like three and two of them said, I suck.
- 31:22Speaker 8: And one of them was my wife that said, man, like,
- 31:25Speaker 8: like maybe you don't suck as bad as everybody says,
- 31:27Speaker 8: but we suck.
- 31:29Speaker 2: You know?
- 31:29Speaker 8: So like, so there's now 497 more people that just
- 31:33Speaker 8: said how good we are. Like somewhere in the middle
- 31:36Speaker 8: is probably the truth. I don't suck, but probably not
- 31:38Speaker 8: a genius either. Like somewhere in the middle, you know,
- 31:41Speaker 8: I can humble myself. Can we all humble ourself on that?
- 31:44Speaker 3: And there's the most difficult part about being a head coach.
- 31:46Speaker 3: And it's why Nick Saban is the best that's ever
- 31:49Speaker 3: done it. And even he couldn't do it all the time,
- 31:51Speaker 3: but he was the king of taking the team that
- 31:54Speaker 3: had just been up here and make them realize, if
- 31:57Speaker 3: you think being up here is the goal, you're going
- 31:59Speaker 3: to get beat. That was the first thing I ever
- 32:02Speaker 3: shared with you guys about doing the Saban show was
- 32:05Speaker 3: after the big wins, when it was a blowout, he
- 32:07Speaker 3: was in the pissiest mood afterwards, always angry. And in
- 32:11Speaker 3: the tough losses, he was in the kindest, nicest mood.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Because it got their attention.
- 32:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Well, I mean, the good news for Auburn is that
- 32:18Speaker 2: you can show, hey, look, you might be getting all
- 32:21Speaker 2: this right now, but let's just go back this season
- 32:24Speaker 2: and let's look at these two losses. Yeah. You know,
- 32:27Speaker 2: how bad the defense was against Florida, how bad the
- 32:29Speaker 2: offense was against Tennessee.
- 32:30Speaker 10: That's right.
- 32:31Speaker 2: You guys are far from perfect, and you have no
- 32:33Speaker 2: margin of error moving forward. That's right.
- 32:36Speaker 3: And if somehow Alex Gillish can't get this team back down– Um,
- 32:41Speaker 3: the LSU will beat them. I mean, LSU is the
- 32:43Speaker 3: favorite to beat him, even if he gets them down. So,
- 32:45Speaker 3: you know, this is not like you're playing an underdog
- 32:47Speaker 3: in LSU. You're, you're expected to lose this game. But
- 32:50Speaker 3: if you think you're, you know, you've arrived now, that's,
- 32:53Speaker 3: that's the difficult part about Alex Golis is all right.
- 32:56Speaker 3: We won, we celebrated, we rolled tumors corner. Everybody's telling
- 32:59Speaker 3: us we hadn't felt this way in five years, six
- 33:02Speaker 3: years or whatever. But now you've got to bust them
- 33:04Speaker 3: back down and make them realize you're one week away
- 33:06Speaker 3: from sucking still.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Best win in college football up until this point. But
- 33:10Speaker 2: I guarantee you none of the five of us will
- 33:12Speaker 2: have Auburn as our upset alert. Nobody's believing this team's
- 33:16Speaker 2: going to win back-to-back. I forgot they were even eligible.
- 33:20Speaker 2: I don't think it's an amazing thing. Do you guys
- 33:22Speaker 2: feel like Auburn's going to win this game? I mean,
- 33:24Speaker 2: I know we did this last week. I think it's
- 33:28Speaker 2: in play. Oh, it's definitely in play. Almost anything's in
- 33:31Speaker 2: play now. But again, like, wow. I mean, if they
- 33:35Speaker 2: go from what we saw, how bad that offense was
- 33:37Speaker 2: against Tennessee, and look, Bama looked about the same. But
- 33:40Speaker 2: if you go from beating Georgia in Athens and then
- 33:43Speaker 2: beating LSU in back-to-back weeks from where they were, we
- 33:46Speaker 2: projected not even getting to a bowl game.
- 33:48Speaker 3: Well, and I know they survived without Xavier Atkins last week. Well,
- 33:53Speaker 3: he's permanently dismissed now. He's gone from the team now. And,
- 33:58Speaker 3: you know, I credit Alex Golish for doing this. This
- 34:00Speaker 3: was the best player on Auburn's roster, the best player
- 34:03Speaker 3: on Auburn's roster. And I credit Alex Golish, whatever happened
- 34:06Speaker 3: that caused him to get outside the team rules to
- 34:09Speaker 3: make a, make a point with the best player. And
- 34:11Speaker 3: this will benefit Alex Golish down the road. It may
- 34:14Speaker 3: not benefit him against LSU. You know, Atkins was a
- 34:17Speaker 3: starter for a reason and he was the best player
- 34:19Speaker 3: on the roster. So You know, Auburn's defense may take
- 34:21Speaker 3: a step backwards because of this, but this will benefit
- 34:23Speaker 3: Alex Gillish for years down the road. This is how
- 34:26Speaker 3: you instill your culture in a football team.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Okay, so, by the way, even Forrester last week, Auburn guy,
- 34:33Speaker 1: didn't believe they were going to win, right?
- 34:35Speaker 2: Oh, he didn't. It wasn't close. It wasn't just people.
- 34:38Speaker 2: And I've noticed back-to-back rowback hoodie days.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Yeah, so even Forrester last week, Auburn grad had no
- 34:44Speaker 1: faith in his team last week.
- 34:45Speaker 6: None.
- 34:45Speaker 12: None.
- 34:46Speaker 1: Upset alert coming up in the next segment. But the
- 34:49Speaker 1: playoff bubble right now, Auburn's name now connected to the
- 34:54Speaker 1: bubble because they were just a two-loss team. In the SEC,
- 34:58Speaker 1: according to Heather Denich, who is with the playoff committee,
- 35:02Speaker 1: she's embedded with them all the time, Georgia, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Tennessee,
- 35:07Speaker 1: four SEC teams if the playoff started today in her opinion,
- 35:11Speaker 1: with Alabama, Texas, Florida, LSU, and now Auburn as bubble teams. Well,
- 35:19Speaker 1: I mean, no, she's got too early to tell Auburn, Missouri,
- 35:22Speaker 1: Mississippi State.
- 35:23Speaker 2: But Auburn is a bubble team.
- 35:26Speaker 3: There are two lost teams, so you've got to do it.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think anybody's considering that. I don't think
- 35:30Speaker 2: anybody thinks both Tennessee and Kentucky are going to be
- 35:32Speaker 2: in this thing either. What's more amazing would be in today,
- 35:35Speaker 2: I mean, Georgia, Ole Miss, you can understand that before
- 35:37Speaker 2: the season. Kentucky, Tennessee would blow people away, and on
- 35:40Speaker 2: the wrong side of the bubble— All of them. Well,
- 35:42Speaker 2: Florida maybe not. Texas, Alabama, and LSU. That's right.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Other end teams, bubble teams, Miami in, Wake Forest on
- 35:50Speaker 1: the bubble.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Surprising.
- 35:52Speaker 1: BYU, Utah in, Texas Tech, Houston on the bubble. Ohio State, UCLA,
- 35:58Speaker 1: Indiana in, USC on the bubble. Notre Dame, Boise State
- 36:01Speaker 1: with JMU on the bubble. That's Heather Dinich there. I've
- 36:04Speaker 1: got some halfway point questions for you guys in the SEC.
- 36:08Speaker 2: Okay.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Halfway point coach of the year right now because we're
- 36:12Speaker 1: at the midway point of the season. Coach of the
- 36:14Speaker 1: year in the SEC is?
- 36:15Speaker 2: Will Stein. You don't even have to think twice. Yeah,
- 36:17Speaker 2: it is Will Stein. No John Summerall. No. No, Will Stein. No,
- 36:20Speaker 2: Will Stein. You don't even have to think about it twice. Yeah,
- 36:22Speaker 2: I mean, again, Florida. I've seen Florida holding up crystal
- 36:24Speaker 2: trophies before. I've never seen anything with Kentucky.
- 36:27Speaker 3: This guy took over one of the worst programs in
- 36:28Speaker 3: the SEC and has them five and one through six weeks.
- 36:31Speaker 2: And he's winning on the road.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Biggest surprise so far.
- 36:34Speaker 2: So it would be Kentucky. Will Stein, Kentucky. Yeah, probably Kentucky.
- 36:38Speaker 2: I mean, well, on the other side of that, I
- 36:40Speaker 2: don't want to say Texas. Well, I'll tell you. I
- 36:43Speaker 2: got disappointment. Okay, well, I've got that one too. Well,
- 36:46Speaker 2: I mean, I think A & M might even be
- 36:47Speaker 2: more disappointing than Texas.
- 36:49Speaker 3: But you could also make an argument for Vandy. I mean,
- 36:51Speaker 3: how quickly Vandy went from periphery of the college football
- 36:53Speaker 3: playoff back to the worst team in the SEC is
- 36:55Speaker 3: pretty astounding.
- 36:56Speaker 2: And you know what I continued to hear last year
- 36:57Speaker 2: without Pavi, and we thought it was maybe this great player,
- 37:00Speaker 2: but a lot of people were like, man, there's commitment now, NIL.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Vanderbilt's not going to go away. Clark Lee's got this
- 37:06Speaker 2: thing steady.
- 37:07Speaker 3: They're right back where they were for 50 years. It's
- 37:11Speaker 3: pretty crazy how quickly they got back there, too.
- 37:14Speaker 2: Who is the SEC's MVP here at the midway point? Man,
- 37:19Speaker 2: that's tough. You could have made an argument for Gunner
- 37:21Speaker 2: last week. You can now make an argument again for
- 37:24Speaker 2: Trinidad Chambliss. Jaden Baugh was there. I don't want to
- 37:29Speaker 2: keep going Kentucky, but Kenny Minchie's got to be mentioned.
- 37:31Speaker 2: I mean, they've been so bad at quarterback over the years. Yeah,
- 37:33Speaker 2: Austin Simmons, you could have made an argument for him
- 37:35Speaker 2: last week. I don't know, man. Maybe Trinidad. Jaden Baugh
- 37:39Speaker 2: at one point was a conversation.
- 37:41Speaker 3: I mean, Colin Simmons is in the discussion now.
- 37:43Speaker 2: He's hurt, obviously.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Out this week as Ole Miss and Texas play Simmons
- 37:47Speaker 1: as an ankle. That's a huge injury, by the way,
- 37:49Speaker 1: and that's two weeks they've lost, so it's kind of
- 37:51Speaker 1: hard to make an argument for Colin Simmons.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Glad these awards aren't given out right now because that
- 37:54Speaker 2: would be really, really difficult. I would mean Trinidad, but
- 37:57Speaker 2: I mean, it's... Very, very close.
- 37:59Speaker 3: It just feels like, for whatever reason, I don't know
- 38:01Speaker 3: if it's the networks they've been on, that Ole Miss
- 38:03Speaker 3: has been playing way off the radar since that LSU game.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Since the Florida loss, yeah. Nobody's even talked about the
- 38:09Speaker 2: dismantling of Missouri.
- 38:11Speaker 6: I know.
- 38:11Speaker 2: I mean, that was the most impressive win. Well, no,
- 38:13Speaker 2: it wasn't.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Well, remember, it was stuck in a window where Alabama
- 38:15Speaker 1: was losing and Auburn was beating number one Georgia.
- 38:18Speaker 2: That's exactly what happened. And it was a 31-3 beatdown,
- 38:19Speaker 2: so you quit watching. And that's good news for Pete
- 38:22Speaker 2: Golden going into this Texas game because that would be
- 38:24Speaker 2: another thing. Everybody says, you guys are back, and you
- 38:26Speaker 2: guys are in a college football playoff. Now you've got
- 38:29Speaker 2: to go to Texas to take on this team. So
- 38:30Speaker 2: that was actually a great spot for Pete Gold.
- 38:33Speaker 3: Troy's probably got the best answer for MVP for me anyway.
- 38:36Speaker 3: He says Deshaun Bishop, Tennessee. I think that's probably where
- 38:38Speaker 3: I'd go.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, maybe. Yeah.
- 38:40Speaker 3: I mean, it's a one-loss team, and their quarterback play's
- 38:45Speaker 3: been so bad they've had to change quarterback, and they're
- 38:47Speaker 3: still a one-loss team because they can run the ball
- 38:48Speaker 3: so well.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Not a bad choice. Having a good couple of weeks.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Not a bad guess there for Troy. I'd probably go
- 38:55Speaker 1: Trinidad right now, but I understand. Best game so far.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Halfway through the season. Best game so far in the SEC.
- 39:02Speaker 1: Involving an SEC team. Let me put it that way.
- 39:04Speaker 2: You know, Ole Miss-Louisville so long ago. That was a
- 39:06Speaker 2: fun game. Ole Miss-LSU. I mean, I know it was
- 39:08Speaker 2: a lot of peaks and valleys. You know, up 17
- 39:11Speaker 2: and then coming back. Bama-Georgia was really tight throughout. Bama-Georgia
- 39:15Speaker 2: felt like it was a heavyweight boxing match. It really did.
- 39:18Speaker 3: And it was never any more than what 10-0 was
- 39:20Speaker 3: the biggest lead anybody had, right?
- 39:25Speaker 6: I mean.
- 39:26Speaker 2: Oklahoma, Texas was ugly, but fun to watch.
- 39:29Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Make sense? Yeah.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Not looking through orange and blue glasses, but that Auburn
- 39:35Speaker 1: comeback down 14-0 to beat number one.
- 39:37Speaker 2: That was very entertaining. That was very entertaining.
- 39:39Speaker 3: Well, you just kept watching and thinking, okay, Georgia's about
- 39:41Speaker 3: to explode. Georgia's about to explode. And they just never did. But,
- 39:44Speaker 3: I mean, Oklahoma, Texas had so many messy games. Terrible plays,
- 39:47Speaker 3: but there was something fun about watching that.
- 39:50Speaker 2: I don't know what it was.
- 39:51Speaker 1: First half, Kentucky-Alabama was really fun up there.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Alabama was a mess. Yeah, but the atmosphere there at
- 39:58Speaker 2: Kroger was really interesting.
- 39:59Speaker 3: I mean, for the absurd college football nature of it,
- 40:03Speaker 3: NC State versus Vanderbilt, It was a close game all
- 40:06Speaker 3: the way through and just the absurd ending.
- 40:08Speaker 1: Florida Ole Miss was fun at Gainesville. Ole Miss coming down,
- 40:11Speaker 1: and it was pretty much a beatdown, but there was
- 40:13Speaker 1: a lot of exciting plays.
- 40:14Speaker 2: But, yeah, that was a beatdown. It just got away
- 40:16Speaker 2: in the second half. Interesting.
- 40:18Speaker 1: Midway point of the SEC. Upset alert when we come back.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Jeff Collins coming up at 11.20 Eastern time. This is
- 40:25Speaker 1: the next round presented by Hard Rock Bet right here
- 40:28Speaker 1: on Sporting State.
- 40:29Speaker 13: This year, the biggest sportsbook party's getting even bigger.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Hey, there's J-Boy.
- 40:34Speaker 13: Whether you just getting here or you been here, you're
- 40:37Speaker 13: not leaving here empty-handed.
- 40:39Speaker 8: Hey, J.
- 40:40Speaker 11: Jimmy Johnson.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Kevin, they know me?
- 40:43Speaker 4: Of course.
- 40:44Speaker 13: In this party, everybody's somebody. This season, Hard Rock Bet
- 40:48Speaker 13: has something for everyone.
- 40:49Speaker 5: Plus, new customers bet $ 5 and get up to $ 500
- 40:52Speaker 5: in no-sweat bets.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Hey, that's Fat Joe. Forget him. That's J-Boy.
- 40:56Speaker 8: Hey, J-Boy.
- 40:57Speaker 4: My name's J-Boy.
- 40:58Speaker 2: I got that. I got that.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Back with you on the next round, presented by our
- 41:03Speaker 1: friends at Sport & State and Hard Rock Bet.
- 41:05Speaker 2: Glad to be with you.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Show number 1,308 on this platform. And a lot of
- 41:11Speaker 1: those over the years have been our upset alert. We're
- 41:13Speaker 1: about to get to those right after LT tells you
- 41:15Speaker 1: about our friends at Clay Travis Law.
- 41:18Speaker 2: Accidents do not wait for a good time. One bad moment,
- 41:20Speaker 2: a wreck, a fall, a doctor who wasn't paying attention,
- 41:23Speaker 2: and suddenly you're fighting an insurance company that does this
- 41:25Speaker 2: every single day. That's why Clay started Clay Travis Law,
- 41:27Speaker 2: built a firm around one idea– People deserve someone willing
- 41:31Speaker 2: to pay attention, ask the hard questions, and push back
- 41:35Speaker 2: when things don't add up. Experienced trial attorneys who bring
- 41:38Speaker 2: the fight to corporations and insurers based in Nashville, trusted
- 41:41Speaker 2: across the country. They lead negotiations with honesty, determination, and
- 41:44Speaker 2: southern grit. Car and truck wrecks, ride-share accidents, medical malpractice,
- 41:48Speaker 2: premises liability, product liability. If you were wrong, they want
- 41:51Speaker 2: to hear about it. Here's what they promise. Honesty. They're
- 41:54Speaker 2: not going to sugarcoat your case. You're going to hear
- 41:56Speaker 2: what it's actually worth, not what you want to hear.
- 41:58Speaker 2: Case evaluation is free. No charge, no pressure, no hassle.
- 42:01Speaker 2: Just tell them your story. Go to ClayTravisLaw.com. Call 877-222-4444.
- 42:07Speaker 2: That's ClayTravisLaw.com. No case too big or too small. Upset
- 42:11Speaker 2: alert time.
- 42:12Speaker 1: Forrester throws up the siren here where we give you
- 42:14Speaker 1: an upset alert. We have been really good as a
- 42:17Speaker 1: show the last two weeks. A week before last, we
- 42:22Speaker 1: all gave you some form of a winner, outright winners.
- 42:24Speaker 1: This week, we go back-to-back for a couple of guys here.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Let's see the rules.
- 42:30Speaker 2: This is the rules that we do.
- 42:31Speaker 1: Minimum spread plus 4.5, so you've got to be more
- 42:35Speaker 1: than a 4.5-point underdog to be eligible to be selected.
- 42:40Speaker 1: You get five points for a cover. You get five
- 42:43Speaker 1: points plus the spread for the outright win. And we
- 42:47Speaker 1: had two outright winners last week from Lance Taylor and
- 42:51Speaker 1: Ryan Brown, which jumbles up the standings. And it puts
- 42:55Speaker 1: Brown on top and LT now with three outright winners
- 43:00Speaker 1: at number two. First of all, just LT as the
- 43:04Speaker 1: first runner up here. If Brown can't fulfill his duties
- 43:07Speaker 1: as the leader here.
- 43:09Speaker 2: You'll take over. Three outright winners now. That's pretty good. Yeah, again,
- 43:13Speaker 2: I'm still kicking myself. That Mindful Ohio catching 16.5, up
- 43:18Speaker 2: 28 on Cincinnati. This thing would be in a really
- 43:21Speaker 2: good spot for me. But I'll take the three straight
- 43:23Speaker 2: up winners. TCU played a hell of a game against
- 43:26Speaker 2: shaky Baylor last week. Baylor had a little momentum going
- 43:28Speaker 2: into that game, but I've got another outright winner this week. Oh,
- 43:32Speaker 2: so LT is believing.
- 43:33Speaker 1: The Brown Bandit, when he gets in here, how's he feeling?
- 43:37Speaker 3: Well, he had Arkansas. I mean, who takes Arkansas on
- 43:40Speaker 3: the road? What an absurd pick that was, right? Arkansas
- 43:43Speaker 3: Last week was the worst team in the SEC going
- 43:45Speaker 3: on the road to a hostile environment like Vanderbilt?
- 43:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:49Speaker 3: I mean, who takes that? What an idiotic pick. But, man,
- 43:52Speaker 3: that's what the Brown Bandit does, Jim. He takes the
- 43:54Speaker 3: picks nobody else is thinking about. Nobody was thinking about
- 43:58Speaker 3: the pick he'll have this week. Not one person in here.
- 44:01Speaker 3: Not one person on this table had that same pick.
- 44:04Speaker 2: I promise you that.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Brooks, you have found your normal home down at the
- 44:08Speaker 1: bottom of the standings.
- 44:10Speaker 2: You're Vanderbilt. You're back to where you belong. Or some
- 44:14Speaker 2: people think. I mean, damn, Jim. Yeah. So you start
- 44:17Speaker 2: us off this week. Upset alert. Where are you going?
- 44:19Speaker 10: I will say I almost have more points to this
- 44:22Speaker 10: point in the year than I had the whole season
- 44:23Speaker 10: last year.
- 44:25Speaker 2: Baby steps.
- 44:25Speaker 11: The basement is coming up a little bit here.
- 44:28Speaker 1: I would tell you, you and I had the same
- 44:29Speaker 1: pick last week, and I knew it was a loser
- 44:31Speaker 1: as soon as we ended up on the same page.
- 44:33Speaker 1: And I'm hating myself right now for not asking you
- 44:36Speaker 1: who you have because I feel like we're going to
- 44:37Speaker 1: be the same again.
- 44:38Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 44:39Speaker 11: I'm going really off the radar here, so... I'm going
- 44:42Speaker 11: to go to the Mountain West.
- 44:43Speaker 6: Okay.
- 44:45Speaker 11: I'm excited already. I've got an absolute just turd ball
- 44:48Speaker 11: of a game.
- 44:49Speaker 10: I've got 0-6 Northern Illinois hosting 1-6 Hawaii. 9-30 body
- 44:56Speaker 10: clock game for Hawaii traveling to Illinois. The Huskies are
- 45:01Speaker 10: catching at 4.5. So 9-30 a.m. body clock game for Hawaii.
- 45:06Speaker 10: Five-hour time zone difference.
- 45:08Speaker 4: Wow.
- 45:09Speaker 2: That's tough. That sounds like a good place.
- 45:11Speaker 10: And it's going to be about 60 degrees at kickoff.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:16Speaker 11: Kind of cold for Hawaii.
- 45:17Speaker 4: That's right.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Are you going to tune in for that one? Which
- 45:18Speaker 2: is 32 degrees.
- 45:19Speaker 11: It is on Mountain West Plus.
- 45:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 45:22Speaker 2: Wow. And shockingly, it's not on the sheet. Yeah. Jim,
- 45:25Speaker 2: you left that one off. Yeah. Sometimes you have to
- 45:27Speaker 2: go to the other side to get somebody. But it's
- 45:29Speaker 2: still not on there. It's still not on there. I
- 45:31Speaker 2: try not to give you MW Plus games. Occasionally they
- 45:35Speaker 2: make it. It is not on there.
- 45:36Speaker 11: Can you get that on Uzi?
- 45:38Speaker 2: I bet you can on the Uzi. All right. I
- 45:42Speaker 2: guess next up. I mean, if they were raising money
- 45:44Speaker 2: for my kid's school, I wouldn't go to that game.
- 45:46Speaker 11: You know what's crazy, though? So I'm looking at the ticket.
- 45:48Speaker 10: You know how they list the ticket prices on ESPN
- 45:50Speaker 10: and whatever beside games? $ 51 is the get-in price.
- 45:54Speaker 2: Are you kidding me? Wow. Yeah, I think it includes
- 45:59Speaker 2: parking and a meal for farmers.
- 46:00Speaker 11: If they were paying.
- 46:01Speaker 10: You that, you couldn't pay me $ 51.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Not $ 51, no. You get to call plays with that
- 46:07Speaker 2: $ 51 purchase. Scotty, there is a number, but it ain't $ 51.
- 46:09Speaker 2: I promise you that. All right, let's do your animation now, Forrester.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Are you in fourth place now? Is that where you are?
- 46:15Speaker 11: Uh, yeah, me and, uh, me and Brooks bring, bringing
- 46:18Speaker 11: up the, uh, the rear there.
- 46:20Speaker 10: It's okay.
- 46:20Speaker 11: We're on top of the pick three.
- 46:22Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 46:22Speaker 11: Back rooms in the front, in the pick three and
- 46:24Speaker 11: in the basement.
- 46:25Speaker 2: This isn't Friday though. I'm checking my calendar. Is this Friday? No,
- 46:27Speaker 2: it's Tuesday. Save that. Save that smack talk for Friday.
- 46:31Speaker 2: What do you got this week for us, sir?
- 46:33Speaker 8: All right.
- 46:35Speaker 7: Just like Lance said, nobody. Nobody's picking Auburn this week.
- 46:41Speaker 5: Oh.
- 46:41Speaker 2: We're going to Jordan Harris.
- 46:43Speaker 4: Look out.
- 46:43Speaker 2: Look at him. Man, what a difference one game made.
- 46:46Speaker 3: Alex Golich is going to throw a boiling hot bowl
- 46:49Speaker 3: of borscht at A.I.
- 46:51Speaker 7: Lane Kiffin.
- 46:52Speaker 4: Borscht?
- 46:53Speaker 2: Borscht.
- 46:55Speaker 11: Oh, he's got on our shirt. Gus is going to celebrate.
- 46:58Speaker 4: At Waffle House.
- 47:00Speaker 2: Gus at Waffle House.
- 47:01Speaker 7: Matt Moscona is going to cry into his hash browns.
- 47:05Speaker 7: Give me Auburn plus seven and a half.
- 47:07Speaker 2: Oh, you know who's going to love this is Moscona. Oh, man.
- 47:11Speaker 2: I watched another documentary on the robot last night. Watch
- 47:16Speaker 2: the Aubie tell.
- 47:17Speaker 4: Oh, no.
- 47:18Speaker 2: Oh, no. Don't do it, Aubie. Don't do it, Aubie.
- 47:20Speaker 2: Don't slap him, Aubie. Don't do it, Aubie. This AI
- 47:22Speaker 2: is getting too much. This is fantastic. One of your
- 47:25Speaker 2: best works, Scott. Gus and Christy. I saw Gus with
- 47:28Speaker 2: that tweet.
- 47:29Speaker 4: What's going on?
- 47:31Speaker 2: So, Forrester, is the entire Auburn family, are they jumping
- 47:35Speaker 2: on board now like you? Yeah, is this a popular pick,
- 47:37Speaker 2: you think?
- 47:38Speaker 11: I doubt it.
- 47:39Speaker 7: I'm not even sure how much I believe in it. But,
- 47:42Speaker 7: you know, if it happens, I want to. I want
- 47:45Speaker 7: a piece of it.
- 47:45Speaker 2: Yeah, okay. He was going to get kicked out of
- 47:49Speaker 2: the family. Remember last week, no chance.
- 47:51Speaker 11: I had no belief, no faith at all.
- 47:53Speaker 1: So he had to believe this week or he was
- 47:55Speaker 1: going to get kicked out of the family. He wouldn't
- 47:56Speaker 1: be allowed back on campus to take his degree.
- 47:59Speaker 2: You got to believe.
- 48:01Speaker 1: Forster, do you guys know, is next week when we
- 48:03Speaker 1: get our first college football playoff ranking?
- 48:05Speaker 2: Two weeks. Two weeks?
- 48:07Speaker 11: First week in November.
- 48:08Speaker 2: First week in November.
- 48:09Speaker 1: My pick is a team that, surely they eventually are
- 48:14Speaker 1: going to start melting under the pressure. They've lost their
- 48:18Speaker 1: starting quarterback now for the season with a knee injury.
- 48:21Speaker 1: They're playing a guy from Cal Poly at quarterback. Eventually
- 48:25Speaker 1: somebody will stop the run game. So I'm going to
- 48:28Speaker 1: go Michigan State, who's done okay against the number, against
- 48:31Speaker 1: the spread. UCLA has covered every game.
- 48:34Speaker 2: But has Michigan State lost five straight now, right?
- 48:36Speaker 1: They are on a five-game losing skid. And they dropped
- 48:40Speaker 1: a close one to Northwestern, 24-21, which I think Northwestern
- 48:44Speaker 1: plays a lot of similar football to UCLA. And they
- 48:48Speaker 1: got a freshman quarterback that's playing better, Alessio. I want
- 48:51Speaker 1: him to try Milo Vickich.
- 48:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:54Speaker 1: So give me Michigan State in the Rose Bowl, pulling
- 48:58Speaker 1: the upset. I'll take the 13 and a half. But
- 49:02Speaker 1: I feel like it's going to be an outright win.
- 49:03Speaker 4: UCLA.
- 49:04Speaker 2: They're going to lose at some point. Runs in the wall.
- 49:06Speaker 1: Michigan State's defense gives up 140 yards a game rushing.
- 49:11Speaker 1: If you can just ever catch Wayne Knight.
- 49:13Speaker 2: Is that his name? Wayne Knight on a bad night. Well,
- 49:15Speaker 2: he had a bad night last week. Yeah. Just catch
- 49:18Speaker 2: him down a little bit. Force this.
- 49:20Speaker 1: Into a low scoring game 13 and a half so
- 49:21Speaker 1: a lot of points for the way ucla hasn't been
- 49:24Speaker 1: scored yeah i.
- 49:24Speaker 2: Mean i would lean michigan state plus points here an
- 49:27Speaker 2: outright win would be difficult but you're just looking for
- 49:29Speaker 2: a cover here right something to get me right uh
- 49:32Speaker 2: this is the team that i had after the first
- 49:34Speaker 2: week being the rep for the group six North Dakota State,
- 49:38Speaker 2: the Bison. They are going out west. I guess they're
- 49:42Speaker 2: already out west, but they're going to Albuquerque to take
- 49:44Speaker 2: on New Mexico. They're catching four and a half. I
- 49:47Speaker 2: just got this on the borderline of the number. Nine
- 49:50Speaker 2: o'clock CW game. This is a really, really good group
- 49:53Speaker 2: six game, unlike Brooks' back there. Honestly, I did not
- 49:56Speaker 2: draw the Bison the last couple of weeks. I don't know.
- 50:00Speaker 2: My artistic skill has fallen apart, but I had a
- 50:03Speaker 2: pinch hitter. Our man Bo, the president. It's pretty good
- 50:05Speaker 2: the president can draw something like this, right? So there
- 50:08Speaker 2: we go. I got the Bison.
- 50:10Speaker 1: This is actually a highlighted game on our TV sheet.
- 50:12Speaker 1: I think it's that good of a game. And really
- 50:15Speaker 1: with sneaky playoff implications if something happened to Boise State.
- 50:19Speaker 2: Well, Boise and James Madison, those are the two you're
- 50:22Speaker 2: looking at right now. And, you know, unfortunately for all
- 50:24Speaker 2: of these other teams that are much better than JMU probably,
- 50:28Speaker 2: JMU's not going to lose.
- 50:29Speaker 1: But I really do believe the playoff committee– will not
- 50:32Speaker 1: put them back in because of strength of schedule.
- 50:35Speaker 2: But you've got to put somebody in from the group
- 50:36Speaker 2: of six.
- 50:37Speaker 1: I think they will go with a Mountain West Pac-12
- 50:39Speaker 1: American team.
- 50:41Speaker 2: It would make more sense.
- 50:42Speaker 1: That has played a more difficult schedule. But I like
- 50:47Speaker 1: that game. I'll be watching. Can't wait to watch that one.
- 50:49Speaker 1: North Dakota State, New Mexico. And I was surprised a
- 50:52Speaker 1: little bit that New Mexico was four and a half.
- 50:56Speaker 1: That seemed closer to a one and a half game
- 50:58Speaker 1: to me. And New Mexico didn't play great on the island.
- 51:00Speaker 2: This past weekend.
- 51:01Speaker 1: All right, that gets us to the Brown Bandit. Welcome
- 51:04Speaker 1: in after your winter, man.
- 51:05Speaker 2: Yeah, rest in peace, Green Marker. Get out in front
- 51:10Speaker 2: of this one. Ironically, because you blew the load out
- 51:13Speaker 2: of all the other Green Markers, I had to go
- 51:15Speaker 2: to the closet to get a new Green Marker.
- 51:19Speaker 10: We've got a lot of blow the load statements on
- 51:22Speaker 10: the show this week.
- 51:23Speaker 2: No, no, no, no. It's only Tuesday, too. Mine was
- 51:26Speaker 2: empty the load yesterday. Correct. Which is what you do.
- 51:28Speaker 11: All over Alex Golish. On Alex Golish is what you
- 51:31Speaker 11: said following that.
- 51:32Speaker 4: That's true.
- 51:33Speaker 2: I was watching. That's what you do when you unload
- 51:36Speaker 2: your truck. I don't know what you guys are thinking about,
- 51:38Speaker 2: but if you are a trucker in America, you occasionally
- 51:42Speaker 2: empty your load at somebody's house. Okay.
- 51:44Speaker 7: Like they said, it's only Tuesday.
- 51:46Speaker 11: We got to reload, guys.
- 51:47Speaker 2: How are you boys doing? Doing great. Good. How are
- 51:51Speaker 2: the pancakes? You know what? Ironically, I never got a pancake.
- 51:55Speaker 2: You didn't go to Flapjack's Pancake House? I walked past
- 51:58Speaker 2: them all. You went to Gatlinburg and had zero pancakes?
- 52:00Speaker 2: What a loser. Did you take a shot? Uh, maybe
- 52:04Speaker 2: a couple. I think I had pancake-flavored shots. Yeah, I
- 52:07Speaker 2: would imagine. Shot of maple syrup? Yeah, shot of maple syrup.
- 52:10Speaker 2: Did you see a fat woman with a tattoo? I
- 52:12Speaker 2: saw plenty of fat women. The average BMI in the
- 52:15Speaker 2: city of Gatlinburg is 53.
- 52:17Speaker 3: Yeah, there's lines at every pancake restaurant.
- 52:21Speaker 2: Is that good? 53, is that good? Depending on what
- 52:24Speaker 2: you're looking for. If you're looking to break a seesaw
- 52:25Speaker 2: in half, yes. I'm at the top of the standings again,
- 52:31Speaker 2: my rightful home here on the Upset Alert. This is
- 52:35Speaker 2: where the Brown Bandit lives.
- 52:36Speaker 3: It's where you stay on the clock. Yeah, you know,
- 52:39Speaker 3: I went in to a bank was asking for a
- 52:41Speaker 3: loan from me. First American called you up. Yeah, they said,
- 52:46Speaker 3: where do we send the paperwork? I said, send it
- 52:47Speaker 3: to my address, the top of the Upset Alert standings.
- 52:50Speaker 2: That's my address. That's where I live this time of year.
- 52:53Speaker 2: We're going to go to the Big Ten this week, boys.
- 52:55Speaker 2: Big Ten, Big Ten. One team we never talk about
- 52:57Speaker 2: in the Big Ten. I do not like their coach.
- 53:00Speaker 2: But I like the way they play. They're playing a
- 53:02Speaker 2: team we've talked too much about in the Big Ten.
- 53:04Speaker 2: That's the Iowa Hawkeyes. Yuck.
- 53:08Speaker 3: The only thing worse than the Iowa Hawkeyes style of
- 53:10Speaker 3: play is that game Brooks just picked. Boy, you put
- 53:13Speaker 3: Iowa in that game, Brooks, and it would be absolutely unwatchable.
- 53:17Speaker 3: They're going to get their boat rowed because they're playing
- 53:20Speaker 3: Goldie the Gopher.
- 53:21Speaker 2: They're playing Buckeyes. That's what I was going to say.
- 53:24Speaker 2: We should let the legal team at Buckeyes know this
- 53:27Speaker 2: is not a resemblance to Buckeyes at all. This is
- 53:29Speaker 2: a Gopher.
- 53:29Speaker 11: Are they sensitive about that kind of thing?
- 53:31Speaker 2: Yeah, cease and desist, a thousand percent. It's already on
- 53:34Speaker 2: the way. This is a gopher, not a beaver.
- 53:36Speaker 3: As Lance said, there's a new Buc-ee's right off the
- 53:39Speaker 3: exit of I-40 when you're going to Gatlinburg. And as
- 53:42Speaker 3: Lance said, isn't Gatlinburg just one big Buc-ee's? You could
- 53:47Speaker 3: just save your time and go to Buc-ee's, right? That's
- 53:49Speaker 3: not even a novelty anymore.
- 53:50Speaker 2: I mean, you can get, you know, horse teeth and
- 53:53Speaker 2: scorpion magnets and all kinds of stuff all over the
- 53:56Speaker 2: city in the saltwater taffy. So what is Buc-ee's good for?
- 53:59Speaker 2: Buc-ee's only has beaver stuff, though. What if I wanted
- 54:02Speaker 2: like a black bear themed thing? Got to go to Gatlinburg.
- 54:05Speaker 2: I forgot to send Scott that video. We met some
- 54:07Speaker 2: black bears. I need to send that video.
- 54:09Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
- 54:10Speaker 2: I forgot to send that. There were black bears.
- 54:12Speaker 3: When I'm back out of character, I'll explain the whole thing.
- 54:16Speaker 3: I don't want people to think I'm Ryan Brown by
- 54:18Speaker 3: any stretch of the imagination. Goldie the gopher plus the
- 54:21Speaker 3: seven and a half as they take on. They're going
- 54:23Speaker 3: to row that boat on the Iowa Hawkeyes there in
- 54:26Speaker 3: the Twin Cities.
- 54:28Speaker 2: Seven and a half points. That's a touchdown and a
- 54:30Speaker 2: half a point right there. I don't know why I'm
- 54:32Speaker 2: going President Trump all of a sudden. Do gophers have
- 54:37Speaker 2: beaver teeth? Goldie does. If you'll go look at the logo,
- 54:40Speaker 2: this is about as good as you're going to do.
- 54:42Speaker 2: He's got some buck teeth. He does. Very large teeth.
- 54:44Speaker 11: I hope they have gopher teeth, Jim.
- 54:46Speaker 2: I think a gopher is a beaver with less jokes
- 54:48Speaker 2: made about him. No, it's almost like a beaver and
- 54:53Speaker 2: a guinea pig had a kid. Yeah.
- 54:56Speaker 1: Or is a beaver like the gopher's version of the
- 54:59Speaker 1: Navy that they take to the water? They do their
- 55:02Speaker 1: fighting on the water. I don't guess the gopher goes
- 55:05Speaker 1: in the water, right? So the gopher's the Army and
- 55:06Speaker 1: the beaver's the Navy?
- 55:07Speaker 2: That's what I figure, and the squirrel is the Air Force. Yes,
- 55:12Speaker 2: who's the Marines?
- 55:14Speaker 11: What makes him golden, though, is what I want to know.
- 55:16Speaker 2: That's a great question. I don't know. Do you think
- 55:19Speaker 2: the Minnesota accent could be the worst accent? Minnesota?
- 55:23Speaker 3: That's a pretty good drawing. If you'll open what Tyler's
- 55:25Speaker 3: got right there, you guys will see it. Damn, that
- 55:27Speaker 3: one looks like bullet. That one gopher needs to eat
- 55:30Speaker 3: a mill. He is a little skinny.
- 55:33Speaker 2: What year was that? Depression. Yeah, it has to be.
- 55:36Speaker 2: The 1920s. Definitely the 20s. Where did we have a
- 55:38Speaker 2: famine in Minnesota? That's our upset alert today.
- 55:41Speaker 4: Wait a minute. Tyler, seven and a half points.
- 55:44Speaker 2: We don't need them. We don't need them. Another outright winner. Sorry,
- 55:46Speaker 2: forgot about that part. Minnesota. Minnesota.
- 55:49Speaker 1: The Bison of North Dakota State. Michigan State. Then on
- 55:55Speaker 1: the back row, Northern Illinois.
- 55:58Speaker 4: All Yankees.
- 55:59Speaker 1: And then there's defending the South, the Auburn Tigers. And
- 56:03Speaker 1: Scott Forrester.
- 56:04Speaker 2: No landmines. Scott picked him. He's a graduate.
- 56:06Speaker 1: When we come back, Kalen DeBoer backing his offensive coordinator,
- 56:11Speaker 1: Ryan Grubb. But from the news conference in Tuscaloosa yesterday,
- 56:16Speaker 1: Alabama's defensive coordinator having to answer the question about Tennessee saying, quote,
- 56:23Speaker 1: they knew Bama was going to play soft coverage the
- 56:25Speaker 1: whole game.
- 56:26Speaker 2: They knew it. What did Kane Womack say about that?
- 56:29Speaker 2: We tell you next on the next round.
- 56:33Speaker 14: You're sitting in my seat.
- 56:35Speaker 2: Hey, Jimmy, we gave you a seat to my new buddy.
- 56:37Speaker 4: What's your name?
- 56:38Speaker 12: Bill.
- 56:38Speaker 2: My new buddy, Bill.
- 56:39Speaker 11: Bill here bet $ 5 to him.
- 56:41Speaker 7: And won $ 3, 300 on hard luck bet.
- 56:43Speaker 11: It's Bill's seat now, Jimmy.
- 56:47Speaker 2: Maybe I'll come back later. If you do, bring a water, Jim.
- 56:52Speaker 4: And a hot dog.
- 56:52Speaker 2: You want a hot dog? Yeah, I'll take a hot dog.
- 56:54Speaker 4: Bill wants a hot dog.
- 56:56Speaker 2: Hot dog for Bill. Millions of winners and counting. Don't
- 57:00Speaker 2: forget to relish.
- 57:03Speaker 1: Back with you on the next round, presented by our
- 57:05Speaker 1: friends at Hard Rock Bet, as you saw there, here
- 57:07Speaker 1: on Sporting State. We will get to Jeff Collins coming
- 57:10Speaker 1: up here in our next segment to talk some X's
- 57:13Speaker 1: and O's about what he saw in college football. this
- 57:16Speaker 1: past weekend. By the way, yesterday, Arch is still the
- 57:19Speaker 1: starter at Texas, as Steve Sarkeesian made that known. As
- 57:24Speaker 1: we mentioned in our upset alert, Nico Amelieva is now
- 57:27Speaker 1: out for the season. Knee surgery there for that one
- 57:30Speaker 1: for UCLA. We mentioned earlier, Colin Simmons will not play
- 57:34Speaker 1: in the Ole Miss-Texas game. He is out at least
- 57:38Speaker 1: this week with an ankle injury. In Florida State, unfortunately
- 57:43Speaker 1: lost their big running back in chroma um he is
- 57:46Speaker 1: done for the rest of the season and that tough
- 57:48Speaker 1: loss uh to miami.
- 57:50Speaker 2: Am i seeing this wrong if you combine what's going
- 57:52Speaker 2: on in college football in the nfl it seems like
- 57:53Speaker 2: we have more season ending injuries this year i mean
- 57:57Speaker 2: it is early for all of these.
- 57:59Speaker 3: It feels like targeting and concussions are down maybe i'm
- 58:03Speaker 3: wrong about that i don't know if you guys feel
- 58:05Speaker 3: the same now i say this is dante moore still
- 58:07Speaker 3: has not returned for oregon so Obviously, he's dealing with
- 58:11Speaker 3: a really bad situation, but I think overall, targetings and
- 58:15Speaker 3: concussions seem down, but other injuries seem up. I'm with you,
- 58:18Speaker 3: and it feels like we've got a spate of season-ending
- 58:21Speaker 3: injuries over the last couple of weeks.
- 58:23Speaker 1: We'll continue to talk about the race towards the playoffs
- 58:27Speaker 1: and Alabama, where they are now, because they are a
- 58:31Speaker 1: little bit of an enigma where they are. going into
- 58:35Speaker 1: a tough stretch with Texas A & M and LSU
- 58:38Speaker 1: coming off of back-to-back losses. That, after I remind you,
- 58:42Speaker 1: the show brought to you by our friends at Hard

- 59:21Speaker 1: tonight with three more college football games right there at
- 59:25Speaker 1: hardrock.bet backslash clay. Coming out of the Alabama loss at Tennessee,
- 59:31Speaker 1: a lot of discussion about Ryan Grubb as a play caller.
- 59:34Speaker 1: Kaitlin DeBoer defending him and backing him up yesterday on
- 59:38Speaker 1: the show. Kane Womack's defense, though, who really kept Alabama
- 59:43Speaker 1: in the game early when the offense was going nowhere,
- 59:46Speaker 1: holding Tennessee to three field goals.
- 59:49Speaker 2: It could have easily been 21-0. Instead, it was 9-0.
- 59:53Speaker 1: But Kane Womack gets asked yesterday about Tennessee's quarterback, George McIntyre,
- 59:58Speaker 1: saying that Tennessee knew that Alabama was going to play
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: soft coverage all day long.
- 1:00:04Speaker 7: How do you respond when Tennessee's quarterback said they knew
- 1:00:07Speaker 7: you were going to play some soft coverage and then
- 1:00:09Speaker 7: they have so much success in that short to medium
- 1:00:11Speaker 7: portion of the field?
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: Well, I think.
- 1:00:15Speaker 12: I think when you look at the things that you're doing,
- 1:00:19Speaker 12: we played a good bit of man against them and
- 1:00:23Speaker 12: it was effective for us. You know, certainly we are
- 1:00:26Speaker 12: a zone structure team and a number of base downs.
- 1:00:29Speaker 12: So I think that's probably an obvious statement for any
- 1:00:33Speaker 12: quarterback to make. But ultimately, right, you just got to
- 1:00:36Speaker 12: go execute, whether it's zone, whether it's man, we've got
- 1:00:39Speaker 12: to continue to mix those things up and execute at
- 1:00:41Speaker 12: a high level. So I've always got to find, you know,
- 1:00:44Speaker 12: I try to look at myself first. What are the
- 1:00:46Speaker 12: things that I can do to put our guys in
- 1:00:47Speaker 12: a better position? And then what are the things that
- 1:00:50Speaker 12: we didn't do a good enough job from an execution standpoint?
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: That's Kane Womack yesterday on the, quote-unquote, soft coverage on
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: the edge there throughout that contest.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: Well, you know, I mean, you look at George McIntyre.
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: He didn't blow you away, didn't wow you with the numbers,
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: 197 passing yards. The problem was they got gashed on
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: the ground, the Sean Bishops. Massive game.
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: Well, and I'm not a defensive guy or coach by
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: any stretch of the imagination, but it's almost like you
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: were allowing the short pass and also allowing the run.
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: I know that's not what they were trying to do,
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: but when you look at the way the game played out,
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: it's like we're going to let them dink and dunk
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: and run the football. We're not going to get beat deep.
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: That's one thing we're not going to do. You're not
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: going to beat us deep, which they never did. To
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: their credit, Tennessee never beat them deep.
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: But were they going to be able to anyway, you know? Yeah,
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: I mean, that's what I'm saying is like, You would
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: like to think one of the two gets taken away.
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: The short pass for a quarterback basically making his first
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: real start. He had started at Arkansas, but his first
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: real start. Or the run game, one of the two,
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: and they allowed both.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: I was going to, it just felt like it was
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: a day where Alabama almost needed the defense to jumpstart them.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: They needed a game-changing, game-flipping play that would have, I mean,
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: it happened at Kentucky.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: Well, I mean, you've got a team that's got four
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: pick sixes this year.
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: They needed, not necessarily all the way to the house,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: but they needed something to get Tennessee off script, something
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: to sort of change the momentum of that game, and
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: it just never happened. And I guess the fan perception
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: is the scheme was not designed. They were not being
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: as aggressive as they were even against Georgia. to try
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: to force the issue.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: But, I mean, the fact of the matter is the
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: defense did a pretty good job holding them to 12
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: in the first half. Now, the second half was much different,
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: and you guys brought up the fact when I talked
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: about the 15-play, nine-and-a-half-minute drive. Backbreaker. You know, they were
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: gassed at that point. They had to be, yeah. But,
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: you know, the offense lost Alabama this game.
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: Speaking of which, here's Ryan Grubb, cut to, getting asked about. Now,
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: yesterday we had him and Kalen DeBoer talking. about, you know,
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: the play calling and Kalen supporting him as a play caller.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: Here's Grubb now on Keelan Russell and what he has
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: to do moving forward to make sure the quarterback's in
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: a good situation.
- 1:03:14Speaker 15: You know, especially for Key, you know, my first thing
- 1:03:18Speaker 15: was like, okay, how do I get this guy to
- 1:03:20Speaker 15: play faster, you know, deal better with some of these
- 1:03:23Speaker 15: pressure situations? Because he's a great player. I think, I mean,
- 1:03:26Speaker 15: I'll say it, I'll go on record. I think Keelan
- 1:03:28Speaker 15: Russell's the best quarterback in America, period. And I know
- 1:03:31Speaker 15: that's not what showed up on Saturday. And again, I
- 1:03:34Speaker 15: can only take accountability for myself and getting Keelan in
- 1:03:37Speaker 15: a better spot because I know he is that kind
- 1:03:40Speaker 15: of player. So going back to the game plan, what's
- 1:03:43Speaker 15: easy for Keelan? And it's not that Keelan is incapable
- 1:03:48Speaker 15: of handling tough things or difficult concepts and things like that.
- 1:03:53Speaker 15: It's just in those type of environments in the first
- 1:03:55Speaker 15: time against.
- 1:03:56Speaker 14: A really good defense, you got you got to make
- 1:03:58Speaker 14: it as clean as possible and so going back I
- 1:04:01Speaker 14: think everything would go back to is this clean enough
- 1:04:05Speaker 14: for the guys and so clearly it wasn't we just
- 1:04:07Speaker 14: got better answers two weeks in a row you know
- 1:04:10Speaker 14: with no points in the second half's pathetic you know
- 1:04:12Speaker 14: and and so for us it just starts with me
- 1:04:16Speaker 14: and the staff and especially me and just finding ways
- 1:04:19Speaker 14: to get guys in better positions.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: Better positions was the talking point from both coordinators yesterday
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: in Tuscaloosa.
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: Got to put the guys in better position. I mean,
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: the last six quarters, they've scored 13 points. That's right.
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: And I don't know where I am on Alabama right now.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: You know, a couple of weeks ago, we were coming
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: off the Georgia. A week ago, we were like, damn,
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: you know, this might be the second best team in
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: college football. But after watching this back-to-back, and I know
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: Tennessee's got a really good defense, I don't know. How
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: do you guys feel about Alabama moving forward? Well, that's funny.
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: This gets us to a segment I want to call
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: true or false. And my first question was, Alabama is
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: a college football playoff team.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: True or false? I mean, I'll go true right now
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: because they've got the benefit of the easiest schedule for
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: all of the remaining contenders moving forward. I mean, the
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: only game they're going to be an underdog at is
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: at LSU. So they're going to be favored in four
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: of their next five. They're going to be a short
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: dog in Baton Rouge. So, you know, they win that
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: game they're in. I don't know how good they are, though.
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: As bad as Kalen DeBoer has been against Tennessee, he's
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: been that good against LSU for whatever that's worth. It's
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: a different LSU coach now. He's not had to coach
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: against Kiffin. But for whatever it's worth, he has been
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: really good against LSU, and Alabama historically has been good there.
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: So that's a benefit, and it's coming off a bye,
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: so that will help. I would say right now I'm
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: not going to pull the chute. I will say true
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: Alabama makes the playoffs.
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll stay with it. I don't feel as good
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: about it after Saturday's performance. Let me say, though, Jim,
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: if they lose again, I'm going to be full. I'm
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: going to go false.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: It just seems like that's a long way to go
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: the second half of the season without dropping another one
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: with the questions they've had on offense.
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: What game scares you, though, outside of LSU?
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: Well, I mean, a little bit this week because you've
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: lost two in a row. And Texas A & M
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: had a virtual bye last week.
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: Who did they play? Charlotte? They played Charlotte.
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: Yeah, to get the right game that could get their
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: offense into a little rhythm. But really, the trip to LSU.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: And now, you know, if Auburn was at Jordan-Hare, that
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: would be tremendously scary. But there are things Auburn does
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: that could be a little scary.
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: With that said, true or false? False. We end up
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: with five SEC teams, nine and three at the end.
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: Of the year.
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: I'm going to go true. I mean, right now you've
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: got one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, eight
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: with two losses. That's right. Yeah.
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: I'll say true.
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know who they're going to be.
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: I can't sit here and count and make sure the
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: math works, but yeah, if you had five, nine and
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: three teams, that wouldn't blow me away.
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: And the SEC is the only conference right now that
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: does not have an undefeated. That's right. That's right. Um,
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: UCLA is the unbeaten team in the Big Ten. Very,
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: very strange. Because people were going to say, wait, the
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: Big Ten. UCLA is unbeaten there. The Big 12 gets
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: at least two bids. True or false? That's true. The
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: perception of the Big 12 has completely changed. You know, interesting,
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: back to the bubble talk with Heather Denich. I saw
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: that Texas Tech's on the wrong side of the bubble
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: right now. They had BYU and Utah in. Now, obviously,
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: they've got to play in the Holy War next week
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: or in two weeks, but Yeah, I think they get
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: two in for sure.
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: It's going to be wild, though, if they get two
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: in and one of them is not Texas Tech, which
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: is entirely possible.
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: Right. Yeah. Again, that's when we might– I don't know
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: the relationship between Cody Campbell and Joey McGuire. Boy. was
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: anybody close to picking Houston in their upset alert? I
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: thought about it. I actually thought that's where Lance was
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: going to go. Yeah, the reason I didn't, I mean, look,
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: Utah has played no one. They played the 115th weakest
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: schedule right now in college football. You know, they have
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: not beaten a team with a winning record yet. I
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: think Utah was good, but I still want to watch
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: a little bit more of that, especially against Houston. And
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: Houston coming off one of these big wins against Oklahoma State.
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: So it's one of those that the number's probably right.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: I think it maybe should be a little shorter, but
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: I stayed away.
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: Yeah, and Utah's at home, and that's a great home-field advantage.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: That'll be an interesting game coming up this week, and
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: that's the 9-15 ESPN game, so a good late-night slate
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: there for that one, Houston and Utah. True or false,
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: Bob Chesney is your national coach of the year when
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: it's all said and done.
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: True.
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: I mean, I think they can make the playoffs, and
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: if he takes UCLA from A job it seemed like
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: nobody wanted to the playoffs.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: In one year.
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: I don't know how you deny him national coach of
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: the year. Unless Will Stein also gets Kentucky in the playoffs.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: And then I don't know who you vote for.
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: Well, unless Kalani Sataki goes undefeated in the regular season
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: and wins the Big 12. You know, that might be
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: a career achievement award for Kalani Sataki. Like, Bob Chesney,
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: you've got plenty of time to do this. I agree. Like,
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: the path of difficulty, the degree of difficulty is much
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: more UCLA oriented. and I do think the more you
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: look at this wow I mean I don't know how
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: I mean they do have a backup quarterback they've got
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: to find two losses they got to find two losses
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: but it is a backup quarterback Diefenbach wasn't bad I
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: mean technically they got to find three yeah you're right
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: I mean they really do It's crazy. I mean, you've
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: got them possibly losing this weekend. I don't see that.
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: But at Minnesota, at Michigan, USC, those are all potential losses.
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: But keep in mind now, they could be hard. I
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: don't know how the tiebreakers are going to work. Could
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: be a two-loss Big Ten championship game team, which puts
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: them in no matter what.
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: But if you were ranking that, Chesney, Satake... Stein, that
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: would be your betting favorite right now, or Sataki Chesney?
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: I think it's going to be Sataki just because he's
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: been doing it for so long. And I think you'll
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: get more and more buzz. National writers and different podcasts
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: are going to be talking about, man, Sataki's been doing
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: this behind the scenes. Nobody's giving him credit. He's finally,
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: you know, people are talking about this team. So I
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: think it would be Sataki right now, but it would
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: be close with the other two.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: Notre Dame loses two games. but still in the college
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: football playoffs.
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: True or false? False. I would go true. I don't
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: think they're going to lose two games, but even if
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: they lose two games, they are in the college football
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: playoff based on what happened last year. I would agree.
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: That resume.
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: SMU is going to be, and I don't know if
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: they'll be ranked at the end of the year.
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: That'd be your only remotely ranked win. Such a bad resume.
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: This sounds nuts. I mean, I guess North Carolina's got
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: a chance of being ranked. They do. They do. But
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: I guess Wisconsin couldn't find their way in, could they?
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: Bryce Underwood is a starting quarterback somewhere else in 2027.
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: True or false?
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: True, but I don't think it'll be power four. I
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: think he'll go the Jackson-Arnold route. True. I wonder if
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: his ego can handle that. I just don't know if
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: it can. I don't know what the– I mean, somebody
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: will take a flyer on him. I mean, he was
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: the highest rated guy coming out. He hadn't played like it, obviously,
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: but there's going to be an offensive coordinator out there
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: that's like, I see how raw this guy is. I
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: can bring him in. I can make him an elite player.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: True is the answer. I'm going to disagree with that.
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: I'm going to say he will be a power four.
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: I don't know where the fit is.
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: It would be funny, though, if it was like Tua
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: in the NFL. Well, we've got him, but Michigan's paying
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: most of his salary. We're not having to pay to play.
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: That's the question, Brown. What was that contract? That $ 13
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: million contract, is that guaranteed no matter how long?
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: I'm going to guess yes. If you kick me off
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: the team and force me to go somewhere else, do
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: I still get my $ 13 million? I don't know. I'm
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: going to guess yes. And, you know, that was almost
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: the albatross for LSU. LSU tried, you know, that was
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: like number one a couple of years ago, and then
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: it was DeMond Williams, and now you've got Sam Leavitt.
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: I don't even know if they got that right. Yeah,
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: is Sam Leavitt the best.
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: Of the three?
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: I guess at this point.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: And then Steve Sarkeesian. is not the coach at Texas
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: in 2027.
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: True or false?
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: I'm going to go true here, Lance. I don't know
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: how it's going to go down, but I think they're
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: going to miss the playoffs. And I just don't know
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: coaching Arch Manning, missing the playoffs back-to-back years. I don't
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: know how he survives that.
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: I can't remember what my bold predictions were, but I
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: believe one of mine was Sark was not back as coach.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: If they lose this weekend three consecutive losses and they're
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: basically already done before we get to the month of November,
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: then I think behind the scenes, that board of trustees
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: and all of the big money guys start chopping it up. Like,
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: what's this look like and who are we going to target?
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: That is what is more fascinating to me. Like, what
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: direction does Texas go? Is it Bob Chesney or Will Stein?
- 1:12:43Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: Well, he got to leave Kentucky. I know it's his
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: alma mater. It'd be so hard to say no to Texas.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: He would have to take it. I think Chessie would
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: be more in mix, though. What about Dan Lanning? Where's
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: his stock right now? I mean, is it to shine
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: off him a little bit? A little bit. Yeah, because,
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: I mean, the knock was big games before.
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: It's a bit unfair.
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: He's playing without a starting quarterback, and they keep winning
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: very close, ugly game. Well, they didn't get to choose L.A.,
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: but they did against Nebraska. So I don't know that
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: he's being properly judged right now, but Shines.
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: Off of them a little bit. Yeah, I think it
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: would be knee-jerk, but I think people are going to
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: be like, Bob Chesney's doing this at UCLA. Kurt Cignetti
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: did it at Indiana. There's something in the water at JMU.
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: There's your guarantee. That's interesting.
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: So mine was Texas misses the college football playoffs. Sark
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: bought out. College first-timers, Navy, BYU, USC.
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: Wow. I got two of three. You might get one
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: of three. Come on, USC. It's not done yet. Purdue
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: goes winless in the Big Ten for third straight season.
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: That's already done. Purdue's pretty good. No, but the Texas
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: misses and Sargbot out would be pretty bold.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: Hey, do you have LTs and Browns since we're at
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: the halfway point? See if you can pull those up
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: while we do that. So those were some midway point
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: true or falses there.
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: Jeff Collins.
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: Coming up on the other side, and we'll check in
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: on their bold predictions after that.
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: This is the next.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: Round presented by Sport & State and Hard Rock Bet.
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: Stay tuned.
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: This is Coach's chair. We protect Coach's chair the way
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: Hard Rock Bet protects Coach's account.
- 1:14:19Speaker 5: Hard Rock Bet keeps Coach's info safe. Hard Rock Bet
- 1:14:22Speaker 5: keeps Coach's money safe.
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: And we keep Coach safe. Hey, fellas. Coach.
- 1:14:28Speaker 5: Coach.
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: How about that protection? Can I grab a wing? Coach's wings.
- 1:14:34Speaker 11: I guess I'll sit on the ground. That's where Coach
- 1:14:36Speaker 11: puts his feet.
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: Safe and secure betting from the very first tap. Great
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: to meet you, Coach. It was Coach's pleasure.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: Back with you on the next round presented by Hard
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: Rock Bet on Sporting State. By the way, as we
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: bring Jeff Collins in here in just a second, I'll
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: tell you that Xavier Atkins did send this out on
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: his social media platform. The dismissed Auburn linebacker said, I
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: have nothing but respect. for Auburn University and will continue
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: to support my teammates this season. My focus is on
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: my health, my family, and I'm finishing up the academic
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: semester strong, and I'll be entering the transfer portal at
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: the appropriate time.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: He also is an NFL guy, too. It'll be interesting
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: to see what his NFL stock is. Yeah, I don't
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: know what that stock is, and maybe our next guest
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: can tell you, because he's undersized. He's built more like
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: a safety guy. You know, they list him at 6 feet,
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: 210 pounds. He might be 5'11, 200 pounds. Yeah. And
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: so he's just one of those tweens. Great college player.
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: And I think his best bet is to now, unfortunately,
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: he's put himself in a dilemma, a situation where you're
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: not going to be able to maximize what you could
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: get in an NIL based on the fact that he
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: got kicked off a team.
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: I think Mark Barron back in the day at Alabama
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: got caught in between positions, right, size-wise.
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: Was he? Was he a DB? Was he a linebacker?
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: Was he this? Was he that? He played some time
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: in the NFL. Yeah, played for the Rams.
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: I know a guy that coached him, I think. Jeff
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: Collins is with us now. Jeff Collins remembers Mark Barron.
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: What's up, Coach?
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: How you doing?
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: I'm doing great, man. I list myself as 6'2. My
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: wife on the daily reminds me that I'm 5'10.
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: Yeah. Boy, you and I have a lot in common.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: I'm the same way, man. I walk around with a
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: 6'1 attitude and a 5'10 body.
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: Same.
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: When you're starting a program like Alex Gillespie is and
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: you're trying to instill your culture, it is hard to
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: suspend the best player on your roster and now dismiss him.
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: But sometimes you're one coach, you've got to do those
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: things to get attention, don't you? And to say, listen,
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: I've got some non-negotiables and I don't know what they are.
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: I've got some non-negotiables and I'm not going to budge
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: on those. I don't care how big a player you are.
- 1:16:41Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely. And I go back to, like, I'm binge-watching
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: the Saban documentary and I lived it firsthand in the building,
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: so I have residual trauma from that experience and some
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: great times too. But Coach Saban had to do that
- 1:16:57Speaker 4: when we first got there. So sometimes you've got to
- 1:17:00Speaker 4: make sure that regardless how much of a player you are,
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: if you're not upholding the rules and the guidelines and
- 1:17:10Speaker 4: the standard of the organization– The team is much bigger
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: than one person.
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: So let's go.
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: Sometimes you got to do it.
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: Let's go back, Jeff, to Tennessee, Alabama, this past weekend.
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: And we just heard from Kane Womack before we get
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: to the offensive side of things for Ryan Grubb. Kane
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: Womack's defense, you know, in the first half, they played
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: their asses off and then they tired out in the
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: second half. And, you know, George McIntyre kind of, you know,
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: picked him apart a little bit there. But the problem was,
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: back-to-back weeks, they have been gashed. Deshaun Bishop was fantastic.
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: You go back last week, Georgia, the week before, Georgia
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: was really good on the ground. Right now, where is
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: Alabama's defense?
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: Yes, and I spend a lot more time watching Tennessee's
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: defense and Alabama's offense. But I think the phenomenon, and
- 1:17:56Speaker 4: I've seen it this entire, my 30-year career, is a
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: lot of times that lift can become so heavy that
- 1:18:04Speaker 4: for a defense or an offense if your defense isn't
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: playing well, that you can sustain that for a half,
- 1:18:11Speaker 4: three quarters. But at some point, the psychological disposition of
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: carrying that weight of keeping the team in the game,
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: sometimes it gets too much. And it kind of looked
- 1:18:22Speaker 4: like that happened Saturday up in Knoxville.
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: So what was happening for Alabama's defense as you broke
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: it down? Because McElroy brought it up on the broadcast
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: for the fans who were watching multiple times. At some point,
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: they've got to walk up and press those receivers and
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: take away those easy throws for three or four yards
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: out in the flats.
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: What did you see? What were they trying to attack?
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: How did you break down that game?
- 1:18:49Speaker 4: The early part of the year, the first four or
- 1:18:51Speaker 4: five games, I thought Kane was doing a great job
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: playing very tight coverage. It reminded me of the way
- 1:18:58Speaker 4: Coach Saban and Kirby always coach defense, where everything was challenged,
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: everything was aggressive, everything was press. You would pass things
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: off in zones, but it was tight. tight coverage instead
- 1:19:11Speaker 4: of spot dropping and loose coverage. And maybe in the
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: second half, there were some times that that didn't happen
- 1:19:19Speaker 4: and they got hurt doing it.
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: It's so easy to say Alabama struggled offensively, but as
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: you mentioned, you watched the defensive side for Tennessee and
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: Jim Knowles. I mean, that defense just looked like they
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: knew every answer. They knew the answer to all the
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: test questions on Saturday.
- 1:19:34Speaker 4: And it's crazy. Like I went into it. because I've
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: watched Coach Knoll's defense even from when he was at
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: Oklahoma State and the variance and multiplicity and all the
- 1:19:43Speaker 4: things that he's always done. But it looked like on Saturday,
- 1:19:47Speaker 4: I mean, for the most part, they were playing some
- 1:19:50Speaker 4: version of Tampa 2 60% to 70% of the time,
- 1:19:55Speaker 4: and they were just not letting Alabama run up the middle,
- 1:19:59Speaker 4: and they would just make everything spill to the outside
- 1:20:02Speaker 4: with their coach. They've got some great defensive tackles. Like
- 1:20:06Speaker 4: it reminded me of Fletcher Cox, Chris Jones, like dominant
- 1:20:09Speaker 4: defensive tackles can take over a game in this league.
- 1:20:12Speaker 4: And Jim Knowles defense has it. And they just played
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: too high and made everything go sideways. Keep everything in
- 1:20:18Speaker 4: front of them. And they just Alabama just couldn't breathe
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: at all and get anything going.
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: I will never forget Brock Huard, who comes on with
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: us on Tuesdays as well. one time was talking about
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: the Tampa 2, and this statement stuck with me. He's like,
- 1:20:32Speaker 3: first time I ever played the Tampa 2, I'm like, oh, man,
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: there are open receivers everywhere.
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: Everywhere.
- 1:20:37Speaker 3: It's completion on completion on completion. He said, get behind
- 1:20:40Speaker 3: the sticks on first down and then see what happens.
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: It was like, once you're behind the sticks against the
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: Tampa 2, it is a different story.
- 1:20:47Speaker 4: And that DeJuan Lane, number 10, that's a good player, too.
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: He's the one that makes that entire system work because
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: he has to– patrol the deep middle of the field,
- 1:20:59Speaker 4: but then they've got him being a primary run fitter
- 1:21:03Speaker 4: in the run game, and those two things are mutually exclusive.
- 1:21:09Speaker 4: But he plays it in a way that he can
- 1:21:11Speaker 4: defend the deep part of the field, but in the
- 1:21:14Speaker 4: run game, that kid's making tackles for loss. I did
- 1:21:18Speaker 4: a long segment breaking down the film, but then I
- 1:21:21Speaker 4: did one of those little shorts, whatever those are, and
- 1:21:23Speaker 4: little TikToks. And DeJuan Lane is three yards in the
- 1:21:28Speaker 4: backfield tackling a dude when he's the deep middle part
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: of the defense. It's crazy.
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: So go back a week ago, most of us thought
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: Georgia was the best team in college football. Then we
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: go back to Saturday, there are three touchdown favorite hosting
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: Auburn that look to be going nowhere. Auburn springs the upset.
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: So when you watch this game and you break it down,
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: moving forward, is there something you see about Georgia that
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: could be a big-time problem as far as going on
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: to accomplish the ultimate goal, which is winning a national championship?
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: And is there something on the other side for Auburn
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: where you're like, damn, this team has got this and
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: this and this, and they might be able to make
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: a little bit of a run.
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: Well, I just went on y'all boys' Conor Guerra, the
- 1:22:10Speaker 4: OG kickoff, and I talked about, and he thought it
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: was good, so I'll say it again with you guys,
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: is it reminds me of the SEC right now reminds
- 1:22:19Speaker 4: me of the old ACC Coastal, where everybody just eats
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: up on everybody, and if you're not mentally, physically, emotionally
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: prepared every single week, Any single team, like there's probably
- 1:22:31Speaker 4: three teams in the SEC that aren't in the category.
- 1:22:35Speaker 4: But if you're in one of those other whatever 14,
- 1:22:37Speaker 4: 15 teams, any of them can beat any of them
- 1:22:41Speaker 4: on any given Saturday. And, you know, I just don't
- 1:22:44Speaker 4: know that, you know, that game, college game day in Tuscaloosa.
- 1:22:49Speaker 4: I mean, that was a classic college football game of
- 1:22:52Speaker 4: two great teams. And then after that, the next week,
- 1:22:55Speaker 4: both of them, you know, laid eggs. It's tough, man,
- 1:23:00Speaker 4: to keep outcoaching that league at four different places. If
- 1:23:06Speaker 4: you aren't ready, every single part of you and your
- 1:23:08Speaker 4: team is clicking, you run a chance to get beat,
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: and that's exactly what happened.
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: Some of that chaos is being caused by some new coaches.
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: One of them is Will Stein, who's known... as a
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: great offensive mind, offensive play caller.
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: He's a pain. When you look at what he's trying
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: to do, how would you defend him? What does he
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: do so well offensively?
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: I said this earlier, but the first couple weeks, and
- 1:23:36Speaker 4: I'm going to kind of tell myself, I didn't really
- 1:23:39Speaker 4: pay attention to Kentucky. I just assumed it was just
- 1:23:42Speaker 4: going to be same old Kentucky, and they were winning
- 1:23:44Speaker 4: some games, whatever. Well, I did a full breakdown on
- 1:23:47Speaker 4: their offense today, against beating Oklahoma, which has a great defense.
- 1:23:52Speaker 4: They are a complete pain to deal with, with all
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: the formations, all the personnel groupings, all the unbalanced that
- 1:24:01Speaker 4: they do. One of the things when I was with
- 1:24:03Speaker 4: Coach Saban, the hardest thing is when you're playing pass coverage,
- 1:24:08Speaker 4: defending four guys to one side. Most past concepts, there's
- 1:24:12Speaker 4: three guys to one side, there's two to another. But
- 1:24:14Speaker 4: when you get four guys to one side, it makes
- 1:24:17Speaker 4: it very, very hard to defend. This Will Stein dude,
- 1:24:21Speaker 4: he gets five guys out to a side with unbalanced,
- 1:24:25Speaker 4: and it's just a complete pain and a terror. And
- 1:24:28Speaker 4: somebody needs to stop this dude. He's getting out of control.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: So it's not fluky. No.
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: Physical, they've got really good players. I gave Jim McIlwain's son,
- 1:24:42Speaker 4: he's the director of player personnel, some love. He's done
- 1:24:45Speaker 4: a great job, and Will Stein obviously has too, with
- 1:24:48Speaker 4: the roster and building it very SEC style. They've got
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: players that Kentucky has never had before, but they're using
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: them within their system correctly. A lot of coaches can
- 1:25:02Speaker 4: get great players, but they don't use their talents to
- 1:25:06Speaker 4: the better good. Will Stein is doing that at a
- 1:25:09Speaker 4: very high level, and it's a pain. Jay Bateman's doing
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: a good job, too, the defense coordinator.
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: But, Coach, you can also see the drop-off with Oregon's offense.
- 1:25:19Speaker 14: 100%.
- 1:25:20Speaker 4: Yep. Same thing, you look at Buster Faulkner, the job
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: he's doing at the school that he's at and the
- 1:25:28Speaker 4: school that he left, not doing as well.
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: Uh coach collins show is where you find it on
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: youtube coach collins show um one of the videos you
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: dropped yesterday compares trinidad chambliss to a quarterback i've never
- 1:25:41Speaker 3: heard him compared to and it is a it is
- 1:25:42Speaker 3: a it is a high compliment but i've never heard
- 1:25:45Speaker 3: this comparison so the video is 30 minutes if you
- 1:25:48Speaker 3: want to go watch it now we highly recommend you
- 1:25:50Speaker 3: do that but you compare trinidad chambliss to who.
- 1:25:54Speaker 4: To johnny football that's a heck of a comparison And
- 1:25:57Speaker 4: that's how he was having to play last year in
- 1:25:59Speaker 4: Lane Kiffin and, you know, Charlie Weiss Jr. 's offense.
- 1:26:03Speaker 4: This year, the way John David Baker's calling it, he
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: is just sitting in the pocket and dicing people up.
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: But I think teams are overplaying the fact that he
- 1:26:15Speaker 4: is so mobile like Johnny Football. And they're overplaying it
- 1:26:18Speaker 4: and being conservative in their rushes. And he's just dicing
- 1:26:23Speaker 4: them up. It's crazy. Now, the other thing that's nuts
- 1:26:26Speaker 4: to me is like the Tennessee video I posted has
- 1:26:29Speaker 4: like 70,000 views. The Kentucky video has like 40-something thousand views.
- 1:26:34Speaker 4: The Ole Miss fan base needs to wake up because
- 1:26:37Speaker 4: that one only has got 10,000 views. challenge the Ole
- 1:26:40Speaker 4: Miss fans, like, let's stop drinking hotty toddies and let's
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: watch some ball.
- 1:26:44Speaker 3: Welcome to our world. You'll put one out and you're like,
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: this is a killer right here. And you're like, yeah,
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: it didn't do as well as I thought. And then
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: we'll talk about, you know, something completely meaningless and it
- 1:26:54Speaker 3: gets a billion views.
- 1:26:55Speaker 2: And you're like, I don't even know. I want to
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: ask you this.
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: You coach in a lot of places. Officiating is on
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: everyone's mind after another week of some interesting calls. Away
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: from the controversial call at the end of Miami, Florida State,
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: or BYU, Notre Dame, can you tell me that league
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: to league, did you find that officials, like I remember
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: Coach Saban one time, back in the day, had said,
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: I was in the room with him, that he felt
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: like the SEC officials let DBs and wide receivers play
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: a little bit more like they.
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: Do in the NFL. than other leagues did.
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: And when they got to the playoffs, they were concerned
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: about maybe having a Big Ten officiating crew or a
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: Pac-12 officiating crew. Did you find in your coaching years
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: that each league refereed things differently?
- 1:27:44Speaker 4: So I will temper this knowing that I could possibly
- 1:27:49Speaker 4: go back into coaching. So I've got to kind of
- 1:27:52Speaker 4: be a little bit politically correct on this one. But
- 1:27:55Speaker 4: I will say this. There was one great referee in
- 1:28:00Speaker 4: the ACC. He is now in the SEC. So there
- 1:28:06Speaker 4: is a difference and a discrepancy between the quality and
- 1:28:11Speaker 4: the judiciousness that they use to officiate things. One's a
- 1:28:15Speaker 4: big boy league and they let them play big boy football.
- 1:28:18Speaker 4: The other one, ticky tack, and they call a bunch
- 1:28:21Speaker 4: of ticky tack things.
- 1:28:23Speaker 9: Yep.
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: And I'd always believed that.
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: And I say it on the show, and I know
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: the SEC is not perfect, but when it comes to officiating,
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: compared to other leagues, they still are the gold standard
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: in college football, in my opinion. Do you sometimes see
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: that as well as a coach?
- 1:28:39Speaker 7: Absolutely.
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: A million percent. I still remember in the eight, the American,
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: when I was the head coach at Temple, the American
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: used the ACC. They were kind of interchangeable. So I
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: had a bunch of years in that experience. But then
- 1:28:54Speaker 4: the SEC, I do feel like they let the guys
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: play more free and let them just, you know, go
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: play big boy football. And I still remember like one
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: of the big things you do on Sundays is when
- 1:29:07Speaker 4: you watch the tape and some games it's worse than others,
- 1:29:11Speaker 4: but there would be like eight to 10 game changing
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: calls that were, I could argue and I would send in.
- 1:29:19Speaker 4: And at the time I couldn't talk about them publicly,
- 1:29:23Speaker 4: but they'd be like, yeah, we got that wrong. Yeah,
- 1:29:25Speaker 4: that should. And I'm like, Those are game-changing plays. One
- 1:29:30Speaker 4: of them, I can live with. But when there's eight
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: that have a direct impact on the game, that's when
- 1:29:36Speaker 4: you're like, you know. And then there's no transparency. The
- 1:29:41Speaker 4: media doesn't know. They can have conjecture and show all
- 1:29:45Speaker 4: the videos and the one second, all those kind of things.
- 1:29:48Speaker 4: But there's no consequences or, you know, my bad, we
- 1:29:52Speaker 4: got it wrong.
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: Yep, you were right.
- 1:29:54Speaker 12: Yep.
- 1:29:55Speaker 4: That doesn't help in the win-loss record there, boys.
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: There's a good chance Mike Norvell probably got one of
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: those messages this week, right?
- 1:30:04Speaker 4: Yep. We missed it. We had it wrong. Well, you
- 1:30:07Speaker 4: know what? All that goes in the L column, whenever
- 1:30:10Speaker 4: they want to move on from you, that L counts
- 1:30:13Speaker 4: just as much as the other ones. There are no asterisks.
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: Somewhat good news for Texas. They've only got two losses,
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: so they do control their own destiny to get to
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: a college football playoff. But the bad news is they've
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: only played one good quarter of football that fourth quarter
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: against Ohio State. I mean, that's kind of fact when
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: you watch them week in, week out. They've got a
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: borderline elite defense, it looks like, but now they're taking
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: on an elite offense in Ole Miss. How does Texas
- 1:30:38Speaker 2: get the swagger back? I don't even know if they've
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: had the swagger all year, but we know they've got
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: a ton of talent. What is missing right now?
- 1:30:49Speaker 4: The thing that frustrates me when I watch them offensively
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: is I just don't see them playing loose and playing
- 1:30:55Speaker 4: with any kind of fun or joy, or they're just
- 1:30:59Speaker 4: always playing within themselves, and it's just frustrating to watch Like,
- 1:31:05Speaker 4: I mean, you know they're great players. You know, they're
- 1:31:08Speaker 4: all four and five stars and the best of the best. But,
- 1:31:11Speaker 4: you know, it's almost like, you know, kind of like
- 1:31:13Speaker 4: when we were little and we'd play on the playground
- 1:31:15Speaker 4: at recess and you would just go out there and
- 1:31:17Speaker 4: just play and cut it loose. And then now they're
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: in front of 100,000 people and they're playing tight. They're
- 1:31:23Speaker 4: playing conservative. It's just not, you know, it's kind of
- 1:31:27Speaker 4: not fun to watch. And then back to my point earlier,
- 1:31:32Speaker 4: when you have an elite defense– And an offense that's
- 1:31:35Speaker 4: not playing well, you have a mental calculator in your mind.
- 1:31:39Speaker 4: If we give up over 14, we've got no chance
- 1:31:43Speaker 4: to win this game. And that creates a lot of
- 1:31:46Speaker 4: pressure on the defensive guys. And then at some point,
- 1:31:50Speaker 4: it's going to fracture and implode. I hope it doesn't.
- 1:31:53Speaker 4: But it's just human nature that that kind of pressure
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: and stress to always have to be perfect and get
- 1:32:00Speaker 4: shutouts to have a chance to win the game is
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: a lot. I've lived it in the past, and I
- 1:32:05Speaker 4: know exactly when I see it.
- 1:32:07Speaker 3: At Coach Collins Show on YouTube is where you find
- 1:32:10Speaker 3: his work. Kentucky's offense is up right now. Texas Tech
- 1:32:15Speaker 3: linebacker U is up right now. You can go see that,
- 1:32:18Speaker 3: how they're actually scheming pick sixes, believe it or not.
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: And he is giving you pages of the Saban book
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: with the Saban documentary out.
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: He did.
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: Dude, the book behind him right there, he showed page
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: one of the process.
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: Trinidad Chambliss.
- 1:32:34Speaker 4: At 2 o'clock this morning, I was watching episode whatever
- 1:32:36Speaker 4: four when Nick was going through his treasure trove of binders.
- 1:32:42Speaker 4: These are the exact ones that he's going through in
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: the documentary. It kind of gave me chills watching him
- 1:32:50Speaker 4: relive those things. I'll do that in the offseason a
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: little bit more.
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: You were not there in 2011, were you? You had
- 1:32:55Speaker 2: moved on.
- 1:32:57Speaker 4: So I was always in there in spirit there, buddy.
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: I know you were.
- 1:33:01Speaker 4: I still remember I would get calls. I was the
- 1:33:03Speaker 4: defense coordinator at Mississippi State. So after I left Nick,
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: it would be three, four, eight times a year that
- 1:33:09Speaker 4: I would get a call, hey, would you tell this
- 1:33:12Speaker 4: guy how to do this, this, and this? And I
- 1:33:14Speaker 4: was the defense coordinator at Mississippi State and still having
- 1:33:16Speaker 4: to do that in 2011.
- 1:33:18Speaker 3: So the thing that jumped out at me from episode four,
- 1:33:21Speaker 3: and I hate to ruin it for those that haven't
- 1:33:22Speaker 3: watched it, but this is just a small part of it,
- 1:33:24Speaker 3: When Oklahoma State got upset by Iowa State and Coach
- 1:33:27Speaker 3: Saban's uncle that was always standing on the sidelines.
- 1:33:30Speaker 6: Sid.
- 1:33:31Speaker 4: Sid.
- 1:33:31Speaker 3: Uncle Sid told Scott Cochran, you should have seen Coach
- 1:33:34Speaker 3: last night. He was dancing in.
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: A chair after that upset. I'm like, Nick freaking Saban
- 1:33:39Speaker 2: was watching that game dancing in a chair.
- 1:33:41Speaker 4: I love it. Yeah.
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: And Scott Cochran was like, don't you tell anybody else that.
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: Keep that one quiet. That was right before Georgia Southern.
- 1:33:49Speaker 3: That was the old 10-horn game for Alabama.
- 1:33:52Speaker 4: Great memories, man.
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: Coach, as always, thank you for the time. We appreciate it.
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: We encourage everyone to go check out the videos.
- 1:34:00Speaker 4: You guys are the best, and once I get that hat,
- 1:34:01Speaker 4: I will rock it proudly.
- 1:34:03Speaker 2: It is on the way. I've got to turn in
- 1:34:04Speaker 2: your address to Bo right now. Thanks, guys. We're going
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: to send you a hoodie, too. Thank you, Coach. A
- 1:34:09Speaker 2: bonus hoodie. We're throwing a bonus hoodie in there. Coach
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: Jeff Collins.
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: He's been a head coach and coordinator throughout the Southeastern
- 1:34:15Speaker 3: Conference at Coach Collins Show. It's where you find his
- 1:34:17Speaker 3: work on YouTube, at Coach Collins Show.
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: It's really good stuff.
- 1:34:20Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: Was last weekend perfect for the expansionists in college football,
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: the guys that really want the 24, whoever they are?
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: XXXY bringing you part of the show today.
- 1:34:31Speaker 3: Jennifer Say, national champion, gymnast, Levi's brand president, decided to
- 1:34:36Speaker 3: leave a job there rather than just say something she
- 1:34:39Speaker 3: didn't believe in. And when she left that job, she
- 1:34:41Speaker 3: started XXXY Athletics instead. Here is their motto, their mission.
- 1:34:47Speaker 3: Empower female athletes to take a stand for fair competition.

- 1:35:32Speaker 13: not leaving here empty-handed.
- 1:35:34Speaker 8: Hey, J.
- 1:35:35Speaker 11: Jimmy Johnson.
- 1:35:37Speaker 2: Kevin, they know me?
- 1:35:38Speaker 8: Of course.
- 1:35:39Speaker 13: In this party, everybody's somebody. This season, Hard Rock Bet
- 1:35:43Speaker 13: has something for everyone.

- 1:35:49Speaker 4: Forget him.
- 1:35:50Speaker 2: That's J-Boy. Hey, J-Boy.
- 1:35:52Speaker 4: My name's J-Boy.
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: I got that. I got that.
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: Fat Joe and J-Boy. Hey, that's Fat Joe. Brought to
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: you by our friends at Hard Rock Bet. We're the
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: next round back with you on Sporting State. If you
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: were with us on Friday while Lance was taking a
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: shot or 30 on the show from the Tennessee Shine Company,
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: he made a bet with Forrester that Forrester was going
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: to pay thousands of dollars if he could do number
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: one on the back of a black bear. Is that
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: what the bet was?
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: Was going to piss on the back of a black bear. Yes.
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: I don't recall taking that bet. I think it was
- 1:36:26Speaker 2: me that took the bet. I believe it was indeed Brown.
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: It was Brown, not Forrester.
- 1:36:30Speaker 10: Okay.
- 1:36:31Speaker 2: Okay, Brown. Did you guys see any black bears?
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: Well, not.
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: We did not, honestly. You didn't see another one, did you?
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: Other than this we're about to show.
- 1:36:38Speaker 5: Oh, no.
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: This was the first that I saw. So we're staying
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: up in the mountains.
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: Our house, a very, very nice house up in the
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: mountains that the good people at Tennessee Shine Company put
- 1:36:46Speaker 3: us up in. And we were leaving Sunday morning. I
- 1:36:49Speaker 3: think we were rolling out at 9 o'clock Eastern. That
- 1:36:51Speaker 3: was our leave time. And Lance, right on time. I
- 1:36:54Speaker 3: had a sleeve of Diet Cokes. And I put them
- 1:36:57Speaker 3: in the back of my car. And I went back
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: in to get my luggage. And as I'm coming to
- 1:37:02Speaker 3: get my luggage, I hear Lance coming down the stairs.
- 1:37:04Speaker 3: So I stopped for a moment to speak to him.
- 1:37:06Speaker 3: I probably wasn't in the house anymore in two minutes.
- 1:37:09Speaker 3: And I hear the Diet Cokes hitting the ground on
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: the driveway. And I'm like, how did those things fall
- 1:37:15Speaker 3: out of there, man? I thought those things were in
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: there nice. And I walk out and this is what
- 1:37:19Speaker 3: I see. Three little baby black bears chasing a Diet
- 1:37:22Speaker 3: Coke down the hill.
- 1:37:23Speaker 2: It's rolling down the hill.
- 1:37:25Speaker 3: I'll pan back right in a moment when... Mama shows up.
- 1:37:29Speaker 3: And Lance was like, you know, if you got those
- 1:37:31Speaker 3: baby bears, mama's there too. You might get to see
- 1:37:33Speaker 3: the Diet Coke sleeve on the ground.
- 1:37:34Speaker 2: And I'll tell you, if you would have left the
- 1:37:35Speaker 2: car open, somebody was telling me like the day before
- 1:37:39Speaker 2: somebody was in somebody's car in Gatlinburg and Black Bear
- 1:37:42Speaker 2: destroyed the whole interior. Yeah. Trying to get food. The
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: back was open, but I had no... We've had that
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: a few times on trash before. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:37:50Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: That's as close as.
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: I mean, I wasn't with you guys, but it's as
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: close as I've ever been to a wild black bear.
- 1:37:56Speaker 4: Four of them.
- 1:37:56Speaker 2: Yeah, look at that. Three babies in a mile. You
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: think if I would have gone and tried to scoop
- 1:37:59Speaker 2: up one of those babies, I would have been in trouble?
- 1:38:01Speaker 9: Yep.
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: I mean, but how much? What was the bet? $ 10, 000?
- 1:38:03Speaker 2: But let me.
- 1:38:04Speaker 3: Go ahead and tell you, with $ 10, 000 on the line,
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: Lance didn't necessarily run over there and try to pee
- 1:38:08Speaker 3: on one of those babies. He didn't try to get
- 1:38:09Speaker 3: on top of the car.
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: I'll go ahead and tell you. It was a different
- 1:38:12Speaker 2: moment in time, you know, from Friday when we were
- 1:38:15Speaker 2: doing Around the World to Sunday morning when, you know,
- 1:38:18Speaker 2: it's time to get in the car and get back
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: to reality. It didn't seem like a great idea. And
- 1:38:23Speaker 2: I didn't want to embarrass, you know, the mom in
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: front of her.
- 1:38:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: Yeah. You want to do that to a mom. Yeah. Yeah. Well,
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: I wasn't going to piss on a cub.
- 1:38:30Speaker 6: No.
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: It was a mom or nothing. It was mom or nothing. And,
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: you know, I didn't want to, you know, They'd be
- 1:38:36Speaker 2: laying on leather couches for the rest of their life.
- 1:38:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:38:38Speaker 2: Oh, wow. So anyway, I was chasing a Diet Coke.
- 1:38:41Speaker 2: Beautiful animals.
- 1:38:42Speaker 12: They are.
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: They really, really are.
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: I mean, for our sponsors, it would have been nice
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: if you'd caught a video of them popping it open
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: and drinking it.
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: Well, he bit into one.
- 1:38:50Speaker 3: That's what I heard. It was rolling down the driveway.
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: So he got a little taste.
- 1:38:56Speaker 2: I'm glad he got a Diet Coke and not some
- 1:38:58Speaker 2: of the other stuff. Cocaine beer. Not that we had cocaine.
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: Let me make that abundantly clear. There was no cocaine.
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: Guy's trip.
- 1:39:06Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: I told you it's snow in Gatlinburg. We did have
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: Mushroom Dan up there, though. Yeah, Mushroom Dan was with us.
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: Our friends at Crockett Coffee, they bring you part of
- 1:39:13Speaker 2: the show. We'll talk 2014 playoff and what this past
- 1:39:16Speaker 2: weekend may have done to change your mind. Clay, Travis, Buck, Saxon,
- 1:39:20Speaker 2: Buck's brother Mason, they came up with Davey Crockett's coffee,
- 1:39:24Speaker 2: Crockett coffee. 100% Arapica bean, high altitude bean, small roasted
- 1:39:29Speaker 2: right here in America.

- 1:39:34Speaker 1: can get it any way you want it. I do
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: mine medium roast. You can get them K-cups as well.
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: We do the whole beans and ground it ourselves. Set
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: up a subscription, $ 59 or more. Those orders are free shipping.
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: And Crockett partners with Tunnel to Towers. It builds mortgage-free
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: homes for families of fallen service members. So if you're
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: drinking coffee anyway, why don't you drink Crockett coffee and
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: do some good for the veterans of the families of
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: fallen service members. It's good coffee made in America doing
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: some good. CrockettCoffee.com, CrockettCoffee.com. All right, 12-team playoff with the
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: chaos that we've seen in the first half of the season.
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: The SEC sitting here with no undefeated teams. Only one
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: undefeated team, and that's UCLA and the Big Ten. The
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: Big 12 looking to be more than a one-bid league.
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: Can you make a case for a 2014 playoff? Is
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: there a slither of, okay, this is going to be
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: okay with the way college football looked this past Saturday?
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: Is there part of you that's like, okay, 24 is needed,
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: it's going to be okay?
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: I think it diminishes regular season because some of these
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: incredible losses, you're like, damn, there's no more The margin
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: of error has gone for a couple of these teams,
- 1:40:49Speaker 2: but it's really not now.
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: Again, I'm a 12 guy, but if I was an expansionist,
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: am I using that word right?
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: Sure.
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: If I believed in the expansion, expansionist, can I not
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: tell you, okay, Alabama has lost, but now that felt
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: like a big loss, but the window is still open
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: that makes Texas A & M and LSU and Auburn
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: feel like bigger games?
- 1:41:12Speaker 12: Yes.
- 1:41:12Speaker 2: For Auburn with two losses, they went over Georgia. It
- 1:41:15Speaker 2: has them in the conversation. I mean, look, you can
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: spin anything the way you want to spin it. But
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: I think the reality of the situation is we are
- 1:41:23Speaker 2: getting closer and closer to the NFL. The regular season
- 1:41:26Speaker 2: is not going to mean as much. It's still going
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: to mean something. But, you know, a bunch of eight
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: and fours and, like, how deep do we get? Now, look,
- 1:41:32Speaker 2: maybe it is different because we just saw Auburn beat Georgia.
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: But are we really going to get a team that
- 1:41:38Speaker 2: is anywhere between 18 to 24 that's going to come
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: in and win this thing? That just seems impossible.
- 1:41:44Speaker 3: Well, I don't know when it, but I think this
- 1:41:46Speaker 3: weekend showed you, the longer we go down the path
- 1:41:49Speaker 3: we're in in college football, that these first-round upsets are
- 1:41:52Speaker 3: more in play now.
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: Yes, I would agree with that. I mean, if you
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: just take the rankings right now, and it's not going
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: to work out this way, but for the purposes of
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: this discussion, I mean, Northwestern will be at UCLA, 24-9.
- 1:42:01Speaker 2: I gave it to you yesterday, Forrest. I don't know
- 1:42:03Speaker 2: if you can still pull it up, a 24-team bracket. Yeah.
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: That on three had put together.
- 1:42:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:42:10Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: I'm willing to use anybody's bracket. So walk us through
- 1:42:12Speaker 3: that one. I mean, you tell me. That is on three.
- 1:42:14Speaker 3: Not point spreads, but I mean, you could see these
- 1:42:17Speaker 3: games happening.
- 1:42:17Speaker 2: What we got? Okay.
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: You have a Wake Forest at USC. Winner gets Miami.
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: That's a losable game for USC, for sure.
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, for sure. Northwestern at UCLA. That's another coin flip.
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: We've got some conference game there, obviously. Florida at Alabama. Same.
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: I mean, Florida just won at Texas. You're telling me
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: they can't win at Alabama? Boise State at Kentucky. That's
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: a fantastic game. Oh, yeah. Kentucky only plays close games.
- 1:42:41Speaker 2: LSU at Iowa. I mean.
- 1:42:43Speaker 3: Contrasting styles, contrasting head coaches, a tough game for LSU.
- 1:42:46Speaker 3: It'll be an outdoor cold weather game. SMU at Utah.
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: The way Utah's playing right now, Lance, SMU, that's an
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: extremely wonderful game. Texas at Houston. I mean, if we
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: got that at Houston right now, I might think Houston.
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: You like the Cougars?
- 1:43:00Speaker 9: Maybe.
- 1:43:01Speaker 2: They got the better quarterback. Texas probably a four-point favorite.
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: Missouri at Tennessee.
- 1:43:06Speaker 3: There again, the way Missouri played Saturday, it's hard to
- 1:43:08Speaker 3: make the statement right now, but they could be. But
- 1:43:11Speaker 3: to LT's point, what he's talking about, Brown, is, okay,
- 1:43:13Speaker 3: those are first-round good games, but can anybody from that
- 1:43:16Speaker 3: first day, first weekend of games, win a national championship?
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: No, maybe not, but move the favorites on. SC at Miami.
- 1:43:23Speaker 2: SC at Miami. Could SC beat Miami?
- 1:43:26Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: Okay, so now you've got a first day that's a
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: contender at that point. You would have– UCLA at Texas Tech.
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: UCLA at Texas Tech.
- 1:43:33Speaker 2: Yes. They could win that game. Yeah. Bama at Notre Dame.
- 1:43:36Speaker 2: Bama at Notre Dame.
- 1:43:37Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:43:38Speaker 2: Yep. Kentucky or Boise at Georgia. I don't think so. Okay.
- 1:43:42Speaker 3: I mean, I'm with you, but, I mean, I just
- 1:43:44Speaker 3: saw Auburn win at Georgia, so, you know, you can't
- 1:43:46Speaker 3: convince me Kentucky.
- 1:43:47Speaker 2: Can't do it. LSU at BYU. 100%. Utah at Ole Miss.
- 1:43:53Speaker 2: I don't know about that. Yeah.
- 1:43:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: Texas or Houston at Ohio State. Texas already beat Ohio State. Yeah,
- 1:43:59Speaker 2: they have, but at Ohio State feels like an uphill climb.
- 1:44:01Speaker 2: And Tennessee or Missouri at Indiana. I don't see that. Okay.
- 1:44:05Speaker 2: But still, we've got half that maybe could possibly still
- 1:44:09Speaker 2: be alive. I guess the best way to do it
- 1:44:11Speaker 2: is outside of the top ten, Alabama, LSU, Texas, Florida,
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: any of those teams you could see, outside of the
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: top 10 that could win the national championship still, as
- 1:44:29Speaker 2: we said here? I mean, we thought Alabama could a
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: week ago. And LSU, I mean. Again, they've lost two
- 1:44:39Speaker 2: really tight games to two really good opponents.
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: It's hard to imagine Texas with the way they look now,
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: but they did beat Ohio State.
- 1:44:47Speaker 3: I just think we're seeing now that upsets are more
- 1:44:50Speaker 3: plentiful and big underdog upsets, so I take away from that. Again,
- 1:44:56Speaker 3: I don't want a 24 team either. But if we're
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: going to get these kinds of upsets, it's not the
- 1:45:00Speaker 3: world anymore where Alabama and Ohio State and Georgia can
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: hoard the talent and just dominate college football. It's a
- 1:45:07Speaker 3: world now where everybody's on a more even playing field.
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: But I would tell you another thing that we're seeing
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: happening that's NFL-like is quarterback injuries and the concerns of
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: quarterback health, right? Because all of a sudden UCLA is
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: to a backup quarterback, and that weakens them a little bit.
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: Arch is having some problems, whatever it is. They may
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: be making a quarterback change. You know, Josh Hoover didn't
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: look healthy at the end of that game. Gunnar Stockton
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: and Keelan Russell both at times look like they had
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: concussions in the middle of their.
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: Game this past week. They look lost, yes.
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: I mean, it looks very NFL-like when it comes to
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: quarterbacks and how big of a factor that could play
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: in the chase for a championship.
- 1:45:49Speaker 3: Again, this is fan discussion. But there's a lot of
- 1:45:51Speaker 3: fan discussion about that concussion thing that Jim just brought up.
- 1:45:55Speaker 3: Two quarterbacks playing uncharacteristically. And I just go back as
- 1:45:59Speaker 3: a Dolphins fan. I'll never forget that Christmas game where
- 1:46:02Speaker 3: Tua is playing the Packers. And Tua was fantastic first half.
- 1:46:05Speaker 3: Dolphins get a big lead. And Tua got concussed and
- 1:46:08Speaker 3: they didn't catch it. And he was a different quarterback
- 1:46:10Speaker 3: the second half. Started turning the ball over. And then
- 1:46:12Speaker 3: lo and behold, after the game, they're like, we missed
- 1:46:14Speaker 3: a concussion. And you could just tell it in his play.
- 1:46:17Speaker 3: It was just uncharacteristic of him at that time in
- 1:46:19Speaker 3: his career. And in the Alabama game, it was Keelan
- 1:46:21Speaker 3: Russell at the end of a tackle. He didn't slide,
- 1:46:24Speaker 3: but it wasn't a hit. He sort of got driven
- 1:46:26Speaker 3: into the ground. Right, not a dirty hit, not a penalty.
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: Just normal going into the ground, just the way he landed.
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: And then the play sequences to where the next couple
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: of plays... It doesn't look like he spun the wrong
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: way on a handoff, which could just be normal miscommunication.
- 1:46:41Speaker 3: Well, are you talking about the fourth down where he
- 1:46:43Speaker 3: spun the wrong way? No, no, it was a different play.
- 1:46:45Speaker 3: It was a different play before that. Yeah, the fourth
- 1:46:46Speaker 3: down is because he got his foot stepped on, obviously.
- 1:46:48Speaker 3: He didn't really turn the wrong way. They just couldn't
- 1:46:49Speaker 3: get the handoff on. I'm telling you, on the NFL side,
- 1:46:52Speaker 3: this Jalen Hurts situation is going to be really interesting
- 1:46:55Speaker 3: to see how this unfolds. To see if the blood
- 1:46:58Speaker 3: clocks are caused by contact? No, the fact that... they
- 1:47:02Speaker 3: knowingly played him with clots and knowingly flew him home,
- 1:47:06Speaker 3: which actually is the more dangerous thing.
- 1:47:08Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, you, you get, I mean, unfortunately people
- 1:47:10Speaker 2: die from that situation. I know a guy that almost
- 1:47:12Speaker 2: did that had clots in his leg and it almost
- 1:47:15Speaker 2: killed him. Serena or Venus Williams. I think it's, I
- 1:47:17Speaker 2: think it's Serena in one of the legs and you know,
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: wasn't supposed to fly, but did. I think somebody I
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: know passed away, uh, from that as well i didn't
- 1:47:27Speaker 2: know somebody died but i know somebody that almost did
- 1:47:29Speaker 2: and they just had a clot in their leg and
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: it shot to their lungs because of the pressurized cabin
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: and that's the scary part about herds and you know
- 1:47:36Speaker 2: there's there's just a lot of talk about that right
- 1:47:39Speaker 2: now and the nfl is going to have to look
- 1:47:40Speaker 2: into that because boy that is if you knowingly played
- 1:47:43Speaker 2: him with clots and knowingly flew him back from london
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: an eight-hour flight with those clients i i just i
- 1:47:49Speaker 2: can't imagine what a penalty for that would be.
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: Yeah all right um Interesting time in college football at
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: the halfway point of the season. We continue the conversation
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: coming up in the second half of the next round.
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: If you are leaving us now for Clay and Buck,
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: we understand that. But you can always circle back when
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: you're done with Clay and Buck and catch us on
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: our podcast platform, Spotify, and wherever you get your podcast

- 1:48:19Speaker 1: next round live there and all of our social platforms
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: we'll talk about what is Alabama's identity right now do
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: they have one and if it is is it what
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: you want them to be can Auburn seize the moment
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: right now.
- 1:48:35Speaker 2: No unbeatens in the SEC. What does that mean for
- 1:48:38Speaker 2: the SEC? Does it mean we're mid or does it
- 1:48:40Speaker 2: mean we're that good? That's just part of the conversation
- 1:48:43Speaker 2: as we continue on on the next round right here
- 1:48:46Speaker 2: on Sporting State presented by our friends at Hard Rock Bet.
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: You guys have a great day.
