- 1:31Speaker 2: him on earn your leisure. So I looked at it
- 1:34Speaker 2: and I looked at the post and it was a
- 1:36Speaker 2: dope story. It was a fourteen year old that retired
- 1:40Speaker 2: his mom. That was That was the caption. Fourteen year
- 1:42Speaker 2: old entrepreneur tires his mom.
- 1:44Speaker 4: He had a.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Clothing company named Spergo out of Philadelphia, So it was dope.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I liked his energy. I did some some research on him,
- 1:52Speaker 2: so I reached out to him like, yeah, you're interested
- 1:54Speaker 2: on coming.
- 1:55Speaker 4: On the orecast for sure. He hit me. He hit
- 2:00Speaker 4: us right back like yeah, let's do it.
- 2:02Speaker 3: I would love.
- 2:05Speaker 4: I like this kid, Let's do it. So.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Trey Brown, fourteen year old entrepreneur that's killing the game
- 2:13Speaker 2: right now with his own clothing brand called Spargo, and
- 2:18Speaker 2: all of the rappers are wearing it. The baby has
- 2:20Speaker 2: been spotted in it. Little Dirt Meek Mill Diddy, who's
- 2:25Speaker 2: actually a mentor to him. We'll talk about that blue face,
- 2:29Speaker 2: all of it. And he's killing it and he's on Instagram,
- 2:33Speaker 2: he's promoting, he's.
- 2:35Speaker 3: He's got news man posted up with shots. This guy's busy.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Seeing in all that.
- 2:41Speaker 2: So so yeah, so we got not only him, but
- 2:45Speaker 2: we also he couldn't be here without his mom.
- 2:47Speaker 5: Boss, so we got the We got the boss Sony.
- 2:53Speaker 4: Cherrelle Peterson, his mom retired school teacher. Correct y.
- 2:58Speaker 2: So this is our first parent and son mother and
- 3:04Speaker 2: son episodes. So this is gonna be a good one.
- 3:09Speaker 2: So first and foremost, thank you guys for joining us.
- 3:10Speaker 6: Appreciate you so much.
- 3:13Speaker 7: Thank you for having us.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. So all right, so let's let's get
- 3:16Speaker 2: into it. So spurgo. Right, So, if you're on Instagram,
- 3:20Speaker 2: you've probably seen them and all the celebrities are wearing
- 3:23Speaker 2: it and you're doing your thing. It's only been around
- 3:25Speaker 2: for a short period of time, and you're young. You're
- 3:27Speaker 2: fourteen years old, right, so you started this when you
- 3:29Speaker 2: was twelve, right.
- 3:30Speaker 6: Twelve January twenty eighteen. I started with my birthday money
- 3:34Speaker 6: one hundred and seventy eight dollars, got my first sixteen
- 3:37Speaker 6: T shirts sold out that week. Then I was able
- 3:42Speaker 6: to reinvest double up thirty two t shirts. Just from there,
- 3:47Speaker 6: we just kept on growing and kept on building.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Turned two into a full four till yeah, boy doubled
- 3:51Speaker 2: up play right, So, but what page you even want
- 3:54Speaker 2: to start a clothes because I at twelve years old,
- 3:56Speaker 2: most kids is thinking about video games or they think
- 4:00Speaker 2: about sports. So they're thinking about, you know, stuff that
- 4:03Speaker 2: they're not thinking about business, let alone starting a business themselves.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Where does that come from? Like what gave you the
- 4:10Speaker 4: idea that I want to be an entrepreneur?
- 4:13Speaker 6: So I ain't even know entrepreneur at the time, but
- 4:19Speaker 6: so it was two. It was two things. So so
- 4:22Speaker 6: clothing really because my mom she's a seamstress, and then
- 4:26Speaker 6: coming from a household church every Sunday and I'm getting
- 4:29Speaker 6: like really dressed up, suit ties, everything, so like you
- 4:32Speaker 6: can't come out the house looking to mess in my household.
- 4:35Speaker 6: You gotta like be right sneaks. And then business because
- 4:40Speaker 6: you know, I wanted to show the youth like, look
- 4:43Speaker 6: you could like you could own a business, you could
- 4:46Speaker 6: get on jests, you could travel because in my city
- 4:49Speaker 6: of Philadelphia, it's not a lot of hope. Like if
- 4:52Speaker 6: you grow up in poverty and that's all you see,
- 4:54Speaker 6: you know, that's all, you know. So I'm just showing
- 4:57Speaker 6: the youth like, look, you could go to Hawaii, you
- 4:59Speaker 6: could go to Miami, you could like you know, you're right,
- 5:05Speaker 6: and you could you know, you could build a business
- 5:07Speaker 6: and you could build the global brand and you could
- 5:10Speaker 6: do whatever, like the sky is the limit. And I
- 5:12Speaker 6: want to show the youth like, look, this is like
- 5:15Speaker 6: here's an example, and I wanted it to be you know,
- 5:20Speaker 6: like a key factor, like to show the youth like, look,
- 5:23Speaker 6: chase your dreams and you could do whatever. You know,
- 5:25Speaker 6: you you whatever you.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Want to be.
- 5:27Speaker 2: So you were saying that twelve year old murdered a
- 5:31Speaker 2: thirteen year old something like that.
- 5:33Speaker 6: Yeah, so it was August. I remember it was August fourteen. Yeah,
- 5:39Speaker 6: it was like August fourteenth, and I remember like it
- 5:41Speaker 6: was yesterday. A fourteen year old got arrested for murdering
- 5:45Speaker 6: a thirteen year old. And that hit me because you know,
- 5:47Speaker 6: that could have been me, that could have been my friend,
- 5:49Speaker 6: that could have been my cousin. And it heard from
- 5:52Speaker 6: like both sides that are like, you know, both sides
- 5:54Speaker 6: like one kid, he's arrested, that's life, you know, he
- 5:57Speaker 6: just missed out on life. All the things he can
- 6:00Speaker 6: to accomplish everything. And then you know another family they
- 6:04Speaker 6: they lost a family member, a mom lost a son,
- 6:09Speaker 6: a brother lost a brother, and you know that just
- 6:11Speaker 6: hit me, like you know that gotta stop. And it
- 6:14Speaker 6: was happening like things like that was happening like on
- 6:16Speaker 6: a regular and it's just it was starting to become normal.
- 6:20Speaker 6: So I wanted to show the youth like, look like
- 6:24Speaker 6: we got we gotta turn it up, like you could
- 6:26Speaker 6: chase your dreams positive and also like what I started
- 6:31Speaker 6: doing was hiring like my friends, my cousins, brother and
- 6:35Speaker 6: everything like that, you know, and giving them opportunities to
- 6:38Speaker 6: show them like you can make money in a positive way.
- 6:41Speaker 6: You don't gotta you know, sell drugs and you know,
- 6:44Speaker 6: do negative things, you know, for money and different things
- 6:47Speaker 6: like that. It's positive ways. Always all here is positive opportunities.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Man, what're you going up with the name spargo?
- 6:52Speaker 4: All right?
- 6:53Speaker 6: So spargo? So spargo. I came up with the name
- 6:56Speaker 6: spargo combined in the words sports and heroes and heroes
- 7:00Speaker 6: really heroes like people who are just like just saving me,
- 7:05Speaker 6: you know and showing me like positive things. So I
- 7:08Speaker 6: will always watch people like Damon John Diddy uh jay Z.
- 7:13Speaker 6: So they were like my heroes. So that's where I
- 7:15Speaker 6: got the hero where from? And then g O g oh,
- 7:19Speaker 6: I got you know, I got that from. Like you know,
- 7:22Speaker 6: Spurgo is for the go getters. It don't matter what
- 7:25Speaker 6: your profession is, as long as you're getting up, you're
- 7:27Speaker 6: working hard to your dream and you grinding. You know that,
- 7:31Speaker 6: Spurgo And we got like a few campaigns that means,
- 7:34Speaker 6: you know, a lot of different things. So I got
- 7:36Speaker 6: on the Leo Swissuit and it says established in twenty eighteen,
- 7:40Speaker 6: and you know, so that's just like showing the beginning
- 7:44Speaker 6: and everything like that. You know, the Leo Swissuit been
- 7:47Speaker 6: seen like like Diddy recently today, that baby. A lot
- 7:54Speaker 6: of just celebritiesment seen wearing it. And then also we
- 7:56Speaker 6: have another campaign Spurgo Billionaire and Billionaire because every day,
- 8:01Speaker 6: like I say, my information is like I'm powerful, I'm strong,
- 8:04Speaker 6: I'm a billionaire. So billionaire just affirming, you know, affirming
- 8:09Speaker 6: that lifestyle, affirment like Spargo gonna be up there and
- 8:12Speaker 6: you know, just affirming positive things and affirment wealth.
- 8:15Speaker 3: That's dope, man.
- 8:16Speaker 5: So you got the first sixteen T shirts. You wasn't
- 8:18Speaker 5: this wasn't like no lemonade. Then what was the story
- 8:21Speaker 5: of how you sold the first sixteen?
- 8:24Speaker 6: So I said, I sold the first sixteen all right.
- 8:27Speaker 6: So before I started spargo, like I was, I was
- 8:30Speaker 6: doing music, so I was a rapper, so I was posting. Uh,
- 8:34Speaker 6: I sent out a message to everybody in my phone.
- 8:37Speaker 6: I was posting on my Instagram like look, I got
- 8:40Speaker 6: this new business venture and this spurgo. I posted the
- 8:45Speaker 6: T shirts and everything like that, and you know, I sold.
- 8:49Speaker 6: I sold out the first week. A lot of my
- 8:51Speaker 6: family members, the friends, everybody was on it. And I
- 8:55Speaker 6: sold out so quick. People are like pre ordering and
- 8:59Speaker 6: people were just like the demand a little bit. It
- 9:02Speaker 6: was up there, you know, about like five people, but.
- 9:10Speaker 3: They all bought it.
- 9:11Speaker 5: But how did you expend Like did you go out
- 9:14Speaker 5: in your school?
- 9:15Speaker 3: Where was you moving these shirts there?
- 9:16Speaker 6: So so after the sixteen shirts and I got thirty
- 9:19Speaker 6: two shirts, Like after like the five people got these shirts.
- 9:22Speaker 6: From the thirty two, I started hitting the barbershop. So
- 9:26Speaker 6: I started hitting every single barbershop, every single business and
- 9:31Speaker 6: you know, the city of Philadelphia every weekend. This started
- 9:34Speaker 6: to be like a thing, like you know how some kids.
- 9:36Speaker 6: They do basketball practice every Saturday. This was like my
- 9:40Speaker 6: basketball practice. Every every weekend. We would go out the
- 9:44Speaker 6: every single barbershop, every single business, and I wouldn't come
- 9:47Speaker 6: into the house unless every you know, T shirt was sold.
- 9:51Speaker 6: So after it was thirty two shirts, then we were
- 9:53Speaker 6: able to move on to I think it was like
- 9:55Speaker 6: another batch of shirts, probably like forty shirts. Then we
- 9:58Speaker 6: were able to move on the hoodies. So now it's wintertime,
- 10:01Speaker 6: so it was in January February. Now it's wonder time.
- 10:04Speaker 6: Now people able to get, you know, hoodies and things
- 10:07Speaker 6: that they really, you know, wanted, and that's what I
- 10:09Speaker 6: wanted in the beginning. I wanted hoodies and long sleeves,
- 10:12Speaker 6: but I couldn't afford it. This was my birthday money
- 10:15Speaker 6: that I was starting off with. So then I was
- 10:18Speaker 6: able to move on to hoodies. And I kept moving,
- 10:21Speaker 6: you know, to the barbershops and businesses, and people just
- 10:25Speaker 6: started knowing me because everywhere I go, you know, I
- 10:28Speaker 6: was rocking Spurgo. It was it was our white and
- 10:32Speaker 6: black T shirt and it's a yellow logo that this
- 10:35Speaker 6: is our original logo. If you see me in a
- 10:38Speaker 6: mall I had on Spurgo, if you see me at
- 10:41Speaker 6: my friend's birthday party. I had on Spurgo. I had
- 10:43Speaker 6: the same T shirt on for months straight, and it
- 10:46Speaker 6: was just getting I wanted to be annoying in people.
- 10:49Speaker 6: So then even I was still at probably like three
- 10:52Speaker 6: four thousand flowers, people were annoy using who I was.
- 10:56Speaker 6: I remember one time we was at the mall True Religion,
- 10:59Speaker 6: somebody was he was like screaming like yo, that's like
- 11:03Speaker 6: that's him and everything like that, and that was real cool,
- 11:06Speaker 6: you know, because I wasn't even like real big on Instagram, Facebook,
- 11:10Speaker 6: none of that. People were just noticing who I was
- 11:12Speaker 6: just because brand consistency and me staying consistent to you know,
- 11:16Speaker 6: my brand. I wasn't wearing nothing else. I'll price for chatter, sneakers,
- 11:21Speaker 6: the jeans, but the same T shirt for months straight,
- 11:26Speaker 6: and that's how I got it.
- 11:27Speaker 2: The bill, I like, I like a few things that
- 11:29Speaker 2: you said there. The barbershop play, it's interesting because it's
- 11:34Speaker 2: the center of influence, especially in a black community amongst men.
- 11:39Speaker 2: So whose idea was it to target barbershops?
- 11:43Speaker 6: So who I did? Was it a target barbershop? That
- 11:45Speaker 6: was my mentor, my first mentor, me and Maya Davis
- 11:48Speaker 6: so me and Mike Davis, I met, I shot him
- 11:51Speaker 6: a d M before I even got my T shirts made,
- 11:56Speaker 6: Before I even got my first T shirts, he gave
- 11:59Speaker 6: me the course, and the course was just showing you,
- 12:02Speaker 6: like what T shirts to get, you know, what T
- 12:06Speaker 6: shirts to get, Like what good colors you know for
- 12:09Speaker 6: brands like red and yellow? Was like a really you know,
- 12:13Speaker 6: good color you know for any type of logo. That's
- 12:16Speaker 6: why I'm seeing it like you know, food and a
- 12:19Speaker 6: lot of just like red. It's seeing like a lot
- 12:24Speaker 6: of different like logos across the board. So that course
- 12:28Speaker 6: was just showing me, you know, like a lot of
- 12:30Speaker 6: different things. But it was his idea to do the
- 12:34Speaker 6: you know, barbershops. He told me to hit you know
- 12:36Speaker 6: some barbershops. So I hit every single barbershop, every single business.
- 12:40Speaker 6: We even started moving to Camden a little bit because
- 12:43Speaker 6: we hit all the barbershops in Philly. So I were
- 12:45Speaker 6: type in zip codes like barbershops and one nine one
- 12:49Speaker 6: dot dot, and we would hit every single barbershop. Then
- 12:52Speaker 6: we started moving to Camden and then that then from
- 12:55Speaker 6: there we was doing like then from there we did
- 12:58Speaker 6: the online store.
- 13:01Speaker 5: I like, I like that you keep saying we because
- 13:03Speaker 5: mom was obviously the we and crazing. But you said,
- 13:07Speaker 5: it wasn't easy at first, right, you want into our
- 13:08Speaker 5: first barbershop and it was.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Like, what are we about to do in here?
- 13:11Speaker 7: Yeah? We were both scared. Trey was petrified. I was
- 13:15Speaker 7: scared for him because that was his first time. Like,
- 13:19Speaker 7: you know, we went over kind of like what he
- 13:22Speaker 7: was going to say, but it's nothing like when you're
- 13:25Speaker 7: in that moment, you know, and it was just like
- 13:27Speaker 7: we were in the you know, in South Philadelphia. But
- 13:31Speaker 7: when we went in, he was like, you know, he
- 13:33Speaker 7: whispered like to the guy. He was like, can I
- 13:36Speaker 7: speak to the manager? And he was like, yeah, what's up?
- 13:38Speaker 7: What's up? Bro? Yeah? And he was like can I,
- 13:41Speaker 7: you know, can I make an announcement and sell my
- 13:44Speaker 7: my my T shirts? He was like yeah, sure. So
- 13:46Speaker 7: Trey got in the middle of the floor. It was
- 13:48Speaker 7: like a long walk to the middle of the floor.
- 13:51Speaker 7: He was scared, and then he was like he was like, hey, everybody,
- 13:54Speaker 7: you know, I got my T shirts and you know
- 13:57Speaker 7: I could be out selling drugs or doing violence. Yeah.
- 14:02Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:03Speaker 7: It was like kind of all over the place and
- 14:05Speaker 7: this my brand spurg Oh. He kept going like this
- 14:07Speaker 7: my brand Spurgo when I got T shirts all sizes
- 14:11Speaker 7: all around, and so they were like in shock. They
- 14:15Speaker 7: was like, wait, ho, turn the music there. Like everybody
- 14:18Speaker 7: like stopped what they was doing. And it was probably
- 14:21Speaker 7: like a very rewarding experience for me because I was
- 14:24Speaker 7: nervous and it was just like mentorship, like right on
- 14:27Speaker 7: the spot, like they embraced him, like they was like
- 14:29Speaker 7: turning music down. You gotta say it over, you gotta
- 14:32Speaker 7: say it speak up because everybody had Yeah, everybody had
- 14:35Speaker 7: their phones out like they were reposting them and like
- 14:39Speaker 7: you know, had them do it a couple of times
- 14:41Speaker 7: like no, add this and you know, add that. And
- 14:45Speaker 7: when that actually posted, he got like twenty thousand views.
- 14:49Speaker 7: He went up like you know, over a thousand followers,
- 14:53Speaker 7: like everybody was common and like you know, like and
- 14:56Speaker 7: there was so much encouragement for him, you know when
- 14:59Speaker 7: he first started off, and for me, it was just
- 15:01Speaker 7: like it was like their reassurance like he gonna be alright,
- 15:04Speaker 7: like he can. It was like he could do it.
- 15:06Speaker 3: No.
- 15:07Speaker 2: It's good story because it's a lot of times people
- 15:10Speaker 2: make excuses in life and it's like all right, so
- 15:13Speaker 2: you start with one hundred and somebody doll one hundred
- 15:15Speaker 2: and forty seven dollars hundred seven, one hundred and seventy
- 15:18Speaker 2: eight dollars, and you buy t shirts and then you
- 15:20Speaker 2: flip it so without even probably you're knowing what you're doing.
- 15:23Speaker 4: You reinvest in money.
- 15:24Speaker 2: That's a business rule, right, You got to reinvest the profits,
- 15:26Speaker 2: not just I make one hundred dollars and then I
- 15:29Speaker 2: spend it. You reinvest in it until you got enough
- 15:31Speaker 2: to buy a sweatshirt, and you reinvest until you got
- 15:34Speaker 2: enough to buy a hoodie in a tracksuit, and the
- 15:36Speaker 2: whole thing. And your marketing gorilla marketing and center of
- 15:41Speaker 2: influences with a lot of people are around and they
- 15:46Speaker 2: can spread the message and you don't have any any
- 15:49Speaker 2: fear in doing it.
- 15:50Speaker 4: That stops a lot of people right there.
- 15:52Speaker 2: It's like just to be able to get in front
- 15:54Speaker 2: of a barber shop in front of strangers and pitch yourself.
- 15:57Speaker 4: That takes a lot of courage.
- 15:59Speaker 2: And it's like even even for adults, Like there's a
- 16:01Speaker 2: ton of adults are scared to tell their friends that
- 16:06Speaker 2: they want to start a business, let alone a room
- 16:09Speaker 2: full of strangers.
- 16:10Speaker 3: You know, it's one thing if you did it in
- 16:11Speaker 3: like your own barbershop.
- 16:12Speaker 5: But you're going into some neighborhoods that ain't you know
- 16:15Speaker 5: what I'm saying, Like you.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Don't even know the people. That takes a lot of
- 16:18Speaker 3: courage and dedication. Man.
- 16:20Speaker 4: So were you able to put the merch in the
- 16:21Speaker 4: shops like.
- 16:23Speaker 6: We we uh further down the line, I put like
- 16:26Speaker 6: some some I came ome with my first do rag,
- 16:29Speaker 6: so I put some dog barbershops.
- 16:32Speaker 7: So you did it with okay.
- 16:33Speaker 6: Oh yeah, so I did. I did put some merch
- 16:37Speaker 6: in a few barbershops, and that was like my first
- 16:40Speaker 6: piece of district distribution. Distribution. Yeah, but I was still
- 16:46Speaker 6: going out the barber shops. Even when I did have uh,
- 16:49Speaker 6: you know, some merch and barbershops, some Spurgo gear and barbershops.
- 16:53Speaker 6: I was still going out the barber shops as well.
- 16:55Speaker 6: So like that was like kind of like two streams
- 16:57Speaker 6: a little bit, getting it from you know, that barbershop
- 17:01Speaker 6: and then also going out to the barbershops. And also that
- 17:04Speaker 6: was kind of like a pickup vocation as well. I
- 17:07Speaker 6: would send people there when I sold out, you know,
- 17:11Speaker 6: so that was kind of like a pick up vocation
- 17:13Speaker 6: as well. And it was really it was really really cool.
- 17:15Speaker 2: So Saturday, that's your Saturday routine. Was going to barber shops,
- 17:19Speaker 2: like twenty barber shops in the city all day Saturday,
- 17:22Speaker 2: and he was just selling hand in hand in the
- 17:25Speaker 2: barber shop. So all right, So now you got a
- 17:27Speaker 2: whole thing going with the barber shops and your name
- 17:30Speaker 2: is building in the city, I'm assuming, so what's the
- 17:33Speaker 2: next play after that to grow the brand?
- 17:36Speaker 6: So after the barbershop, I was moving around in the
- 17:39Speaker 6: city and somebody gave me, you know, diddy numbers to
- 17:43Speaker 6: show a number, and.
- 17:44Speaker 4: How did somebody that.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Rewind?
- 17:48Speaker 4: It's an important person that gave you his number.
- 17:52Speaker 7: So so so Trey was moving around so much that
- 17:56Speaker 7: it was just like it's almost like how can I help?
- 17:59Speaker 7: You know, like people like because I think you know,
- 18:03Speaker 7: when you working hard, it draws people to you. It's like,
- 18:06Speaker 7: you know, like they want to be a part of
- 18:08Speaker 7: helping you be successful. And it is roal people out
- 18:11Speaker 7: here that really genuinely want to know.
- 18:13Speaker 2: I'm glad you said that because that's something that is
- 18:15Speaker 2: underrated too. Low of inertia, Yeah, low of inertia is
- 18:18Speaker 2: like object emotion stays in emotion or object and still
- 18:22Speaker 2: stay still, like once you get the ball rolling. And
- 18:25Speaker 2: Wallow told me to shout out to Wallow. Yeah, we
- 18:28Speaker 2: spoke every we speak a lot, but he was I
- 18:30Speaker 2: was asking him. I'm like, yo, how you get all
- 18:33Speaker 2: this bar stool?
- 18:33Speaker 4: How?
- 18:33Speaker 2: He was like, yo, once you get hot, bro, it's
- 18:36Speaker 2: just like you just you just like things tracked like you.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Energy attracts energy like energy, right, So it's like and
- 18:43Speaker 2: people want to be around people that are successful.
- 18:45Speaker 4: It's human nature.
- 18:46Speaker 2: So it's like, once you really start to get that
- 18:48Speaker 2: ball rolling, you'd be surprised how many blessings just randomly
- 18:53Speaker 2: just start falling in your lot.
- 18:56Speaker 7: It's been yeah, because it's like constantly working then so
- 19:00Speaker 7: many people are. So it's like even if people don't
- 19:02Speaker 7: notice you the first time, they may see you in
- 19:04Speaker 7: another setting like wait, oh ya, I saw him before,
- 19:07Speaker 7: like or I saw that brand, and then they're now
- 19:09Speaker 7: they're now digging in their brain like where did I notice?
- 19:12Speaker 7: Like so they're now researching him or where they saw
- 19:15Speaker 7: him first. So it was like he you know, he's
- 19:18Speaker 7: out here doing something positive, you know, inspiring other kids.
- 19:22Speaker 7: So it's like, how can I help him to keep going?
- 19:25Speaker 7: And he let you. Gave him the number.
- 19:27Speaker 6: And first thing, honestly, first day out there was FaceTime
- 19:34Speaker 6: can't pick up. So I made him a video. And
- 19:38Speaker 6: that's one thing about me, like I'm big on the videos.
- 19:40Speaker 6: Pictures is cool, but I do videos. I sent them
- 19:43Speaker 6: a video. Hey, mister Shawn, my name is Chay Brown. Uh,
- 19:47Speaker 6: my name is Chay Brown. I'm a twelve year old entrepreneur.
- 19:51Speaker 6: Seeo my own clothing brand called Spurgo, and then everything
- 19:55Speaker 6: like that, I'm gonna send you out the video. So
- 19:58Speaker 6: after that, that was like mid July. I'm packing up
- 20:02Speaker 6: shirts in August one morning and my phone just keeps
- 20:05Speaker 6: on buzzing. It just constantly. It just kept on buzzing.
- 20:09Speaker 6: I checked my phone and people telling me that, you know, Diddy,
- 20:13Speaker 6: you know, shouting me out. Mister Sean shouted me out.
- 20:16Speaker 6: And that was just like the big like a big
- 20:18Speaker 6: step for me because a lot of people in Philly
- 20:20Speaker 6: seeing it, So that stepped up my credibility. A lot
- 20:23Speaker 6: of people you know, all over the world was just
- 20:25Speaker 6: hit me up like yo, I need a shirt. But
- 20:28Speaker 6: good thing is I had I set the website up
- 20:31Speaker 6: in May so and he shouted me out. On August
- 20:34Speaker 6: so now everybody all around the world able to order
- 20:37Speaker 6: a Spurgo shirt and everything like that. So that was
- 20:40Speaker 6: really cool. You know, people just wanting to help people,
- 20:43Speaker 6: you know, sharing as well, you know. So that was
- 20:45Speaker 6: the first step. That was the first day my website
- 20:49Speaker 6: just sold out. Everything had sold out first day on
- 20:53Speaker 6: the jet, my first day you know, inside of Maybag.
- 20:56Speaker 6: So that day was really good. Later on, no, actually,
- 21:01Speaker 6: from that post, I was able to get my first
- 21:03Speaker 6: wholesale my first wholesale deal, and it was for five
- 21:07Speaker 6: hundred shirts. They didn't want no discount or nothing like that.
- 21:10Speaker 6: They ordered five hundred shirts that like, at the time,
- 21:13Speaker 6: the shirts was twenty five dollars. That's why I said
- 21:15Speaker 6: at the time, because they ain't twenty five. Yeah, so
- 21:22Speaker 6: they was like twenty five at the time. Also at
- 21:25Speaker 6: that time, I just gained some connections as well. A
- 21:28Speaker 6: lot of people in his family. They you know, they
- 21:30Speaker 6: knew me and they was like DM and me and
- 21:32Speaker 6: things like that. So later on that month, I found
- 21:37Speaker 6: out meek Mill he was having a pop up shop
- 21:39Speaker 6: inside Philly. Me growing up being from Philly, meek Mill
- 21:43Speaker 6: was somebody that I look up to heavy, somebody that
- 21:46Speaker 6: came from you know, uh the streets and everything like
- 21:49Speaker 6: that and made it and being successful. So I felt
- 21:52Speaker 6: I saw that he was, you know, had a pop
- 21:54Speaker 6: up shop in Philly, he was gonna be there. Luckily
- 21:57Speaker 6: I was all from score that day I met him.
- 22:00Speaker 6: He posted me on his Instagram early before I met him.
- 22:04Speaker 6: I had my affirmations up. I'm powerful, I'm great, I'm amazing,
- 22:09Speaker 6: everything like that. But when he shouted me out meek,
- 22:14Speaker 6: you know, it gave me another, you know, step of credibility.
- 22:17Speaker 6: Like this kid is like everywhere and like this is crazy.
- 22:22Speaker 6: So after that, like it just it just kept building
- 22:25Speaker 6: from there with you know, with the wholesale deal from
- 22:29Speaker 6: you know, people seeing me on Diddy page, I was
- 22:32Speaker 6: able to get my first sweatsuits. So out of them sweatsuits,
- 22:36Speaker 6: then I was able to buy, you know, my first jackets.
- 22:39Speaker 6: Now we got like a full warehouse full of different products,
- 22:42Speaker 6: Like we got sweatshos crew necks, uh, different T shirts,
- 22:48Speaker 6: body suits, swimwear, slides. Now we got like a full warehouse.
- 22:52Speaker 6: We got a full brand, full collections, and Spurble was
- 22:56Speaker 6: like really getting up there now.
- 22:58Speaker 5: So in the beginning, you're still in school, you're still
- 23:00Speaker 5: a student, in school, right, yeah, now, I know if
- 23:02Speaker 5: you had a nice outfit in school, you're the man.
- 23:05Speaker 5: What is it like when daddy's posting you, meets posting
- 23:08Speaker 5: you and you're going to school.
- 23:09Speaker 4: What's that?
- 23:10Speaker 6: Like a lot of people they were just like I
- 23:12Speaker 6: just started. I started being like a cool kid. But
- 23:16Speaker 6: in the beginning of me, in the beginning of me,
- 23:18Speaker 6: like doing something different, like starting a business, and then
- 23:21Speaker 6: me doing my affirmations every day too, like because them
- 23:24Speaker 6: affirmations really kick in, like I'm strong, I'm a billionaire,
- 23:27Speaker 6: I'm powerful, I'm happy. Affirmation like that that really kick in,
- 23:31Speaker 6: you know when negative things are happening. But kids at
- 23:35Speaker 6: first like oh that's corny, you know, and different things
- 23:38Speaker 6: like that. I was getting laughed at and picked on,
- 23:40Speaker 6: you know, in the beginning, because you know, it was
- 23:42Speaker 6: just something different, Like it's like in my city, is
- 23:46Speaker 6: not really cool to do something positive or do something different.
- 23:49Speaker 6: But like what mister Waall said, like when people think
- 23:51Speaker 6: you crazy, that mean you want something like you like
- 23:54Speaker 6: you got something great going on. But in the beginning,
- 23:58Speaker 6: in the beginning, it wasn't cool. But like as like,
- 24:02Speaker 6: you know, things started coming. I started growing on social
- 24:06Speaker 6: media a lot of my friends like you. They was
- 24:08Speaker 6: with it. I gat, you know, new friends who had
- 24:11Speaker 6: businesses and different things.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Like yeah, it's always it's always funny until it's not funny.
- 24:18Speaker 2: But also the thing I like about you also is
- 24:22Speaker 2: that like you're staying in people's radar and that's important.
- 24:26Speaker 2: And it's like going back to why. Like I was
- 24:27Speaker 2: talking to him yesterday and he was asking us. He
- 24:30Speaker 2: asked me, He was like, yeah, going the All Star
- 24:33Speaker 2: And I'm like, no, I don't think we're going. He
- 24:34Speaker 2: was like, now you gotta go. He was like, because
- 24:36Speaker 2: like you just gotta be everywhere. He was like, you
- 24:38Speaker 2: gotta be everywhere. And it's crazy because we was in
- 24:40Speaker 2: Super Bowl and we was with Big Business shot the
- 24:45Speaker 2: Big Business shout to Alex Gold Energy. We was just
- 24:47Speaker 2: randomly eating on South Beach and I see you walking.
- 24:49Speaker 2: I see you guys walk. You got that VOT. So,
- 24:53Speaker 2: so you know, we sat down, we had a conversation.
- 24:55Speaker 2: And then today I thought you was out there for
- 24:57Speaker 2: an event because early I think that they before I
- 25:00Speaker 2: saw you at Diddy's house with Cal it.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Was actually coming to OZ coming a head.
- 25:05Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Well yeah, but then after that, so I saw you
- 25:07Speaker 2: with cal It and Diddy and all that. So I
- 25:09Speaker 2: thought that it was planned for you to come down
- 25:11Speaker 2: there to me, Diddy, and you just told me like
- 25:13Speaker 2: you just went down there just on.
- 25:14Speaker 4: The whim I went down.
- 25:15Speaker 6: I went down. So I was in New York Thursday.
- 25:18Speaker 6: I said, Mom, everybody in everybody in Florida, everybody in Miami,
- 25:21Speaker 6: let's just fly out there. And you know, we flew
- 25:25Speaker 6: out there Friday. And I didn't have nothing planned, nothing planned.
- 25:29Speaker 6: Nobody that I knew was out there. I had a
- 25:32Speaker 6: hotel and my mom was like, yeah, my mom was like, yo,
- 25:35Speaker 6: what were going through down there? I said, let's just
- 25:37Speaker 6: go to South Beach.
- 25:38Speaker 4: I see who We're going to figure it out, figure
- 25:41Speaker 4: it out.
- 25:41Speaker 3: Oh, it's a good place to figure things out.
- 25:43Speaker 6: So and when I told my mom, I told my
- 25:46Speaker 6: mom earlier in the year, like I'm not missing no event,
- 25:49Speaker 6: no more like last year when the BT Awards, the
- 25:53Speaker 6: Rod Nation Brunch. Yeah, that hit me, Like why am
- 25:56Speaker 6: I not there? Like that hit me? I said, like the.
- 26:01Speaker 7: Same thing he was really said though about it, like
- 26:03Speaker 7: because he was like the brunch, I'm gonna be there
- 26:05Speaker 7: next year.
- 26:06Speaker 2: And I was just like, okay, nah, because it's like
- 26:08Speaker 2: I always like to like a child's mind is different
- 26:11Speaker 2: from an adult's mind because they don't have this, they
- 26:12Speaker 2: don't have the same restrictions adults be. Like it's like
- 26:17Speaker 2: you take one vacation a year and it's like and
- 26:19Speaker 2: it's like, why you're going? Why not? Why am I
- 26:22Speaker 2: not going to? That's the real question, That's the real question.
- 26:27Speaker 6: You lift Once I was so yeah, I was, man,
- 26:30Speaker 6: I was so mad when I was like, I was
- 26:32Speaker 6: missing all these spots. I told my mom, I'm not
- 26:35Speaker 6: missing no All Star Game. I'm not missing no super Bowl,
- 26:39Speaker 6: no bat no Brammy, nothing like that. I'm gonna be everywhere,
- 26:43Speaker 6: and I'm gonna stay consistent, and I'm just so focused
- 26:46Speaker 6: where I'm not like like I'm so focused while I'm
- 26:50Speaker 6: not playing no more whereas like they gonna just keep
- 26:52Speaker 6: on seeing me. But you just gotta be everywhere.
- 26:55Speaker 2: So then you so that you went down there, and
- 26:56Speaker 2: then you FaceTime Diitty and then the next thing you know,
- 26:58Speaker 2: you end up in Ditty's house.
- 26:59Speaker 6: Right, we had come through, right, I FaceTime, I FaceTime
- 27:03Speaker 6: mister Sean, and I said, if mister Sean, you don't
- 27:06Speaker 6: you don't got you only got in Miami right now
- 27:09Speaker 6: without Spargo on what's up? He said, pull up on
- 27:11Speaker 6: me right now. Uh, he said, pull up on me
- 27:14Speaker 6: right now. And I had like a I had a
- 27:16Speaker 6: suitcase for Spargo. I've worded it to him, and I
- 27:20Speaker 6: had some stuff for the whole family. And we were
- 27:22Speaker 6: just chopping it up for about an hour. You know,
- 27:25Speaker 6: we was just chopping it up for an hour. I
- 27:27Speaker 6: was able to meet Christian and Justin and you know,
- 27:29Speaker 6: they remember me from the poosts and things like that.
- 27:32Speaker 6: But it was just, you know, good to chop it up.
- 27:34Speaker 6: And we got like a big project on the way,
- 27:36Speaker 6: me and mister Sean and I don't even know we're talking.
- 27:39Speaker 4: About breaking alert.
- 27:42Speaker 6: So and then after that, the next day he invited
- 27:45Speaker 6: me to the Bad Boys super Bowl party. I was
- 27:48Speaker 6: able to meet, you know, some celebrities, and you know,
- 27:51Speaker 6: I was it just feels good to be connected and
- 27:53Speaker 6: different things like that. But you know, we we we're
- 27:56Speaker 6: still growing from here.
- 27:57Speaker 3: So yeah, and I wanted to say shout out to mom.
- 28:00Speaker 3: I know you're educator.
- 28:01Speaker 5: I know he was in school, but now he's doing homeschool,
- 28:03Speaker 5: so you're taking that role of now being the teacher
- 28:05Speaker 5: as well as more right.
- 28:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 28:06Speaker 7: So he so it was actually like his first year
- 28:09Speaker 7: in he was like, bron, can I be homeschool? And
- 28:12Speaker 7: I'm never even being a teacher. I don't know people
- 28:15Speaker 7: that's homeschool. And it's just like no, try, you can't
- 28:18Speaker 7: be homeschool, like you want to be in school. Second, Mama,
- 28:20Speaker 7: missing so many opportunities and this and that, Like this
- 28:23Speaker 7: was like a two month plead. Like he was like
- 28:27Speaker 7: you know and kept asking, and I started to see
- 28:30Speaker 7: the things that he was missing, like because his mentors
- 28:34Speaker 7: like they all wanted him with them, like they would
- 28:37Speaker 7: go to like conferences and things like that, and I'm like, yo,
- 28:40Speaker 7: this is information that trade really could benefit from. Like
- 28:44Speaker 7: they were taking him, you know, out to Calie. What
- 28:46Speaker 7: was the name of it. I can't remember the name
- 28:48Speaker 7: of the conference, but it was a lot of Yeah.
- 28:51Speaker 7: So it was like that he went to that he
- 28:53Speaker 7: missed like two days of school, and then it was
- 28:55Speaker 7: another conference or something was coming up, and I was
- 28:57Speaker 7: like that he gonna miss more school, Like I got it,
- 29:00Speaker 7: you know. Yeah. So then in February of twenty nineteen,
- 29:07Speaker 7: I finally let him get home school.
- 29:12Speaker 2: All right, so we're gonna go in the next sep
- 29:13Speaker 2: we're gonna talk about the day to day operations of Spurga.
- 29:16Speaker 2: But before I got one last question, So cal It,
- 29:19Speaker 2: your energy seems like it's a match for cal It.
- 29:22Speaker 2: How was he like when you met him?
- 29:24Speaker 6: So, oh, DJ got it. Yeah, So like when I
- 29:27Speaker 6: met him, he was like real chill because he was
- 29:28Speaker 6: in the business move But when I see him next time,
- 29:31Speaker 6: we're gonna be right.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Next next time, next time to turn up as the
- 29:37Speaker 2: next second we're going we're gonna go into next all right,
- 29:39Speaker 2: So now we're gonna go into the next segment, so
- 29:41Speaker 2: we're gonna talk about systems and day to day operations.
- 29:45Speaker 2: But before that, so the homeschooling process, because I'm sure
- 29:47Speaker 2: there's a lot of parents that listen to earn leisure
- 29:50Speaker 2: and they might, you know, have thought about homeschool. You're
- 29:54Speaker 2: a teacher by trade, so it's probably easier for you
- 29:57Speaker 2: to teach.
- 29:58Speaker 7: Well. Actually, he is like sign school, so I don't
- 30:01Speaker 7: have to come up with the curriculum. Homeschool and cyber
- 30:03Speaker 7: school is a little bit different, whereas homeschool, the parent
- 30:06Speaker 7: does have to come up with the curriculum and the
- 30:08Speaker 7: activities and things like that. So he does cyber school.
- 30:11Speaker 7: He'd probably just say cyber school where the curriculum is
- 30:14Speaker 7: already there. He has teachers, he has counselors. They did
- 30:18Speaker 7: some like once every quarter they had like a little
- 30:20Speaker 7: get together where you can meet the teachers and.
- 30:22Speaker 4: Talk about with the name of the school.
- 30:24Speaker 7: Uh, he goes to twenty first century.
- 30:27Speaker 2: That's like something I did. Actually, So when I went
- 30:29Speaker 2: to I used to play basketball. So when I went
- 30:30Speaker 2: to prep school in Florida, and so my last two
- 30:35Speaker 2: years of high school I was at it was so
- 30:37Speaker 2: Texas saying I was in school in Florida, but Texas
- 30:39Speaker 2: A and M had like a satellite program where so
- 30:43Speaker 2: I traveled a lot because it was like a really
- 30:44Speaker 2: good prep school. So like I would do like coursework,
- 30:48Speaker 2: like it's like online learning, right, basically equivalent of online learning.
- 30:53Speaker 2: I would go to the physical location when I was
- 30:55Speaker 2: in town, but if not, like they'd just send me packets,
- 30:58Speaker 2: do the coursework, send the packets back. It gets graded
- 31:02Speaker 2: like a whole system in place. And I was because
- 31:04Speaker 2: I wasn't really in school a lot, right.
- 31:07Speaker 4: So that sounds like the equivalent of.
- 31:09Speaker 7: Like, yeah, it's very similar.
- 31:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a new age way of learning anything about
- 31:13Speaker 2: it is that like a lot of the old traditional
- 31:16Speaker 2: ways is it's kind of outdated, Like you go to
- 31:18Speaker 2: a school.
- 31:19Speaker 4: From seven o'clock in the morning to three thirty.
- 31:22Speaker 7: That was his complaint doing that. He was like, yeah,
- 31:28Speaker 7: he that was his complaint. He was like, Mama, spent
- 31:30Speaker 7: an hour of traveling in school. I spent an hour
- 31:33Speaker 7: coming back. You know. He had this whole thing laid out,
- 31:36Speaker 7: like he was like, we kids don't listen, you know,
- 31:40Speaker 7: like teacher spending time with telling the kids to sit down.
- 31:43Speaker 7: And I'm a teacher, so I kind of know how
- 31:45Speaker 7: much time is like wasting, Yeah, wasted on just getting
- 31:49Speaker 7: the masses the right thing. So I mean it just
- 31:52Speaker 7: started like he just kind of like broke kept breaking
- 31:55Speaker 7: breaking it down, you know. But for me it was
- 31:57Speaker 7: difficult at first because I was like I didn't really
- 32:00Speaker 7: know anybody else that did it before. I didn't want
- 32:02Speaker 7: him to miss out on social things. I'm like, you
- 32:05Speaker 7: know what trade when it's time to go to high school,
- 32:07Speaker 7: you're gonna go on your prime or like you know,
- 32:09Speaker 7: so I was kind of a little bit concerned about.
- 32:14Speaker 5: Saying I think he's doing I'm with CALLI mom. The
- 32:17Speaker 5: social pot we got.
- 32:19Speaker 2: So that's what that's dope because like I said, I mean,
- 32:24Speaker 2: there's no one shoe fits off feet exactly, and there's
- 32:29Speaker 2: no one way to learn, right, So it's like there's
- 32:32Speaker 2: nothing that beats real life experience.
- 32:34Speaker 6: So it depends, like it really depends because like my
- 32:38Speaker 6: little like my little brother like and my little sister, like,
- 32:42Speaker 6: they really wouldn't like homeschool because they like, you know,
- 32:45Speaker 6: learning with friends and different things like that. My little
- 32:48Speaker 6: sister is like a social person, so homeschool for her,
- 32:51Speaker 6: you know, wouldn't fit really right.
- 32:53Speaker 7: She loves getting on the school, but she loves like
- 32:55Speaker 7: so like you said, one when you don't fit all.
- 33:00Speaker 4: Fee that's the fact. So all right, So so your homeschool.
- 33:04Speaker 2: So how does the day that they operations work as
- 33:06Speaker 2: far as the business, because so obviously you have inventory,
- 33:10Speaker 2: you got ship inventory, you got social media marketing. Can
- 33:13Speaker 2: you like walk me through it like an average day
- 33:15Speaker 2: like of you running the business with me or with
- 33:18Speaker 2: both both of you guys, Like just like what's your
- 33:21Speaker 2: average day of like the business operation?
- 33:23Speaker 6: So with me, average day, I wake up six six thirty,
- 33:31Speaker 6: a week up a week up six thirty. So this
- 33:35Speaker 6: is a day for me, So six thirty, take my
- 33:39Speaker 6: little brother and older sisters to the school bus. After that,
- 33:42Speaker 6: I knock out some After that, I knock out some schoolwork,
- 33:45Speaker 6: hit the gym. Hit the gym at like eight, Uh,
- 33:54Speaker 6: I get back, I get back, and then just you know,
- 33:57Speaker 6: I checked social media, see what's popping. But uh, you know,
- 34:05Speaker 6: later later on then I'm I might just be traveling,
- 34:11Speaker 6: like and why if I'm not traveling, then probably just
- 34:15Speaker 6: shipping out some things, checking out like what's going on,
- 34:18Speaker 6: getting on some like you know, business calls. Uh yeah,
- 34:23Speaker 6: getting on some business calls is like usually all day
- 34:26Speaker 6: shipping out products, shipments coming into the you know, warehouse.
- 34:32Speaker 6: That happens a lot, like boxes, boxes, and then just
- 34:37Speaker 6: also just planning, you know for people that don't know,
- 34:40Speaker 6: like it's four quarters, it's four quarters, Q one, Q two,
- 34:45Speaker 6: Q three and the best Q four. So just like
- 34:49Speaker 6: planning for the quarter, and you know that that's what
- 34:53Speaker 6: like I'm always doing, just planning for like what's next,
- 34:56Speaker 6: you don't like I don't really want to be like
- 34:58Speaker 6: late on a way for you know, just figuring out
- 35:02Speaker 6: what's new to fashion. Sometimes I might I might just
- 35:06Speaker 6: go to like NIM and mark is and just check
- 35:08Speaker 6: out like some new products that they got in or
- 35:11Speaker 6: you know.
- 35:13Speaker 4: Inspiration right, yeah, so I'll order.

- 38:11Speaker 5: are going now, right, But prior to that was they
- 38:13Speaker 5: y'all doing it at.
- 38:14Speaker 6: The home so where so yeah, so we're doing so
- 38:16Speaker 6: we're doing a lot of the shipping right now. We're
- 38:19Speaker 6: doing a lot of this shipping right now.
- 38:21Speaker 3: So you're going back and forth to the post office yourself.
- 38:24Speaker 6: Yeah, I do, but I don't. I don't really have to,
- 38:27Speaker 6: though the post office could.
- 38:28Speaker 7: Come to me. He likes the personal part of it,
- 38:34Speaker 7: like the people at the post office know him, you know.
- 38:38Speaker 7: Also like he has like special bags where he like
- 38:41Speaker 7: his his brand logo is on the bags and he
- 38:45Speaker 7: meets a lot of people in the post office. So
- 38:47Speaker 7: like showing up is like Tray's thing, like he really likes.
- 38:50Speaker 7: So he hires his friends and things like that, like
- 38:52Speaker 7: his friends can go to the post office for him.
- 38:54Speaker 7: But that part he enjoys, you know, he enjoys like
- 38:58Speaker 7: talking to the people, seeing new people in the post office.
- 39:01Speaker 7: Like a lot happens at the post office.
- 39:03Speaker 3: Actually, right, So you're hiring your friends.
- 39:05Speaker 5: So you got some thirteen fourteen year olds that you
- 39:08Speaker 5: grew up with that are now working for you.
- 39:10Speaker 3: Yes, you're a real boss. How that conversation go, Like,
- 39:13Speaker 3: y'all need y'all do this run for me?
- 39:15Speaker 6: Uh So one of my friends they come through every Saturday.
- 39:18Speaker 6: They come through every Saturday, and they working inside the
- 39:22Speaker 6: warehouse organizing things, organizing new products, doing inventory, shipping out stuff.
- 39:31Speaker 6: And then my brother and my cousins and different things
- 39:35Speaker 6: like that. They'll come with us, like for different projects,
- 39:37Speaker 6: so it's like a pop up shop. I will hire
- 39:40Speaker 6: my friends and different things like that. So they will
- 39:42Speaker 6: help me set up like moving things, and I'm just
- 39:45Speaker 6: showing them like, look that's a positive way y'all could
- 39:47Speaker 6: get money. And then also you know, when one of
- 39:50Speaker 6: us win, we all win. Like we're unity, we're the team.
- 39:53Speaker 6: So like we we just we move like that. We
- 39:56Speaker 6: moving in that direction. Like we all got spurgoing our bio.
- 40:00Speaker 6: We all got one goal like Spargo gonna be a
- 40:02Speaker 6: global global brand or Spargo gonna be a global brand.
- 40:06Speaker 6: So we're gonna win or we're gonna win. And that's
- 40:08Speaker 6: just like how we move, like we move as a
- 40:09Speaker 6: team and different things like that. We always rock and Spurgo.
- 40:13Speaker 6: I rock Spurgo every day, like you will never catch me,
- 40:16Speaker 6: you know rocking you know anything else, Like I only
- 40:18Speaker 6: got like the pumas on right now because the Spargo sneaks.
- 40:22Speaker 3: Not out but on the way you're right.
- 40:25Speaker 6: Uh so yeah, so that's that's what it is like
- 40:27Speaker 6: for the like for the team. So for the pop
- 40:29Speaker 6: up shops, they'll come and different things like that.
- 40:33Speaker 2: So Mom, like as far as your you run the books, right, yeah,
- 40:37Speaker 2: so how is that for you? As far as your
- 40:38Speaker 2: day to day, Like what's your day to day look
- 40:40Speaker 2: like as far as you're more in the business operational?
- 40:43Speaker 4: Sorry?
- 40:43Speaker 7: Right, So I don't handle like a lot of calls,
- 40:46Speaker 7: a lot of the pr a lot of emails, Like
- 40:48Speaker 7: Trey has been on over thirty media outlets.
- 40:52Speaker 4: Last year, you do PR yourself? Yeah, how do you?
- 40:54Speaker 4: What's so, what's your formula for PR?
- 40:56Speaker 7: Just so PR, Like sometimes I'll send out press releases,
- 40:58Speaker 7: but right now it's always it's been like a heavy
- 41:01Speaker 7: demand for him. So like we haven't even yeah, we
- 41:04Speaker 7: haven't even really got into.
- 41:06Speaker 6: The part of we're like trying to reach out, right.
- 41:09Speaker 7: So I believe, you know, I feel like this year
- 41:10Speaker 7: is going to be a year where we would really
- 41:12Speaker 7: step it up, where he gets into those like mainstream things,
- 41:16Speaker 7: you know.
- 41:16Speaker 5: So uh yeah, so you you actually were teaching in school.
- 41:21Speaker 3: We have that account. We had a talk about the
- 41:23Speaker 3: power of education.
- 41:24Speaker 5: And classroom management. At a certain point you said, I
- 41:27Speaker 5: can't teach anymore.
- 41:29Speaker 7: Yeah, it was getting difficult because I was working in
- 41:32Speaker 7: the you know, the inner city is already rough, you know,
- 41:35Speaker 7: so working in inner city, working full time, it was
- 41:38Speaker 7: coming home already exhausted. But I would still have to,
- 41:41Speaker 7: you know, put in like six hours with Tray because
- 41:44Speaker 7: he is fourteen, and he is a beast. Like he's
- 41:47Speaker 7: a beast, but it's some things that he just can't handle, like,
- 41:50Speaker 7: you know, bank stuff, just different things that you know,
- 41:53Speaker 7: an adult has to take care of So I would
- 41:56Speaker 7: spend you know, six hours with him, and then I'm
- 41:58Speaker 7: like running. Then I got to be your mom to
- 42:00Speaker 7: my other kids. You know, my family, got to take
- 42:03Speaker 7: care of my family. So I'm like running off of
- 42:05Speaker 7: like four or five hours of sleep. So after a while,
- 42:08Speaker 7: like it's just it was just starting to get like
- 42:10Speaker 7: really really rough. And you know, Trey always said, my
- 42:14Speaker 7: came on, like you don't gotta do that, you don't
- 42:16Speaker 7: gotta work, And you know, a part of it was
- 42:19Speaker 7: my own fear, you know, like we stepping in waters.
- 42:22Speaker 7: Our family have never you know, we're doing that, you know, yeah,
- 42:26Speaker 7: we're doing different. We're like when we started. People his
- 42:29Speaker 7: friends was laughing at him, but even adults looking at me,
- 42:32Speaker 7: like what is you doing? You know, like so I
- 42:35Speaker 7: mean leaving my job. My parents even were just looking
- 42:39Speaker 7: at me like you sure, you know, like they as
- 42:42Speaker 7: much as they believed in the brand, like it's just
- 42:44Speaker 7: that security, that guarantee income and things like that, but
- 42:47Speaker 7: just believing in trade, believing in the brand, believing in
- 42:51Speaker 7: you know, you know, my own higher power and you know,
- 42:54Speaker 7: just that kind of stuff. I was like, I can't,
- 42:58Speaker 7: it's not even healthy at this point to keep living
- 43:00Speaker 7: like this and things are going really great. It's almost
- 43:03Speaker 7: like you, if you believe you got we gotta do
- 43:06Speaker 7: something in order for him to go to the next level,
- 43:08Speaker 7: for this to go to the next level, for us
- 43:10Speaker 7: to really break these generational curses. We got to step
- 43:14Speaker 7: out my last thing.
- 43:18Speaker 2: So you talked about putting systems in place. Can you
- 43:21Speaker 2: talk about that?
- 43:23Speaker 6: So playing systems in place? You want to talk about them?
- 43:26Speaker 7: Yeah, that was so. Our first year trade is very
- 43:30Speaker 7: like spontaneous, like all right, man, we're going here. You know,
- 43:35Speaker 7: we're not we're not doing this mom or we you know.
- 43:37Speaker 7: So after about a year and a half like that,
- 43:40Speaker 7: that's starting to get draining because it's like we're going here,
- 43:44Speaker 7: we're making moves here, but this part is slipping because
- 43:47Speaker 7: maybe we forgot to do one thing or we forgot
- 43:50Speaker 7: to do another thing. So it's kind of like a
- 43:52Speaker 7: bunch of like time, we're wasting time sometime, or we're
- 43:55Speaker 7: losing resources in another area. So systems are really important,
- 44:00Speaker 7: like those day to day like we ship on these days,
- 44:02Speaker 7: you know, we had to put those kind of things
- 44:04Speaker 7: in place. Uh, this is how we answer this question.
- 44:08Speaker 7: Putting those frequently asked questions on the website, just a
- 44:11Speaker 7: bunch of infrastructure and you know, setting setting the bar
- 44:16Speaker 7: for ourselves. We had to do it because otherwise we
- 44:19Speaker 7: would have went.
- 44:20Speaker 6: Created stuff like hours of operation, like I can't be
- 44:24Speaker 6: answering the phone nine o'clock at night and things like that.
- 44:27Speaker 6: It's just like not healthy shipping out on you know,
- 44:30Speaker 6: certain days, and just having a system for you know, shipping,
- 44:35Speaker 6: not writing labels, being able to being able to being
- 44:40Speaker 6: able to print them and different things like that, and
- 44:43Speaker 6: just you know, putting systems in place, you know, so
- 44:45Speaker 6: I could use time to do something else. So now
- 44:47Speaker 6: I got shipping handled. Now I'm able to work on marketing.
- 44:52Speaker 6: I got marketing handled. Now I'm able to you know,
- 44:54Speaker 6: being able to speak on earn your leision like that.
- 45:00Speaker 4: I like this kid in fact.
- 45:02Speaker 2: So but not only are you doing that, you're building
- 45:05Speaker 2: your own personal brand and you got I guess endorsement
- 45:09Speaker 2: deals right, Like can you talk about like investco. So
- 45:12Speaker 2: people don't know what investco is, probably, but I know
- 45:15Speaker 2: what investco is. I'm in the financial industry. Investco huge
- 45:18Speaker 2: financial company, multi billion dollar company, investments, mutual funds, stuff,
- 45:25Speaker 2: retirement accounts. So when I heard that you had a
- 45:28Speaker 2: partnership with Invesco. That's pretty interesting. Can you talk about that.
- 45:32Speaker 6: Yeah, So Invesco reached out to me in early state
- 45:36Speaker 6: in one of my early stages in business prior.
- 45:39Speaker 7: Like was January of twenty nineteen.
- 45:42Speaker 3: A year in.
- 45:43Speaker 6: Yeah, so like a year in, they reached out to
- 45:46Speaker 6: me and they said, could you shoot us? Could you
- 45:48Speaker 6: shoot us an email email back? Like hey, you know,
- 45:53Speaker 6: they were just saying, like, we're interested in working with you,
- 45:55Speaker 6: could you shoot us an email back? And you know,
- 45:58Speaker 6: I called them immediately. I said, forget the email. I'm
- 46:02Speaker 6: calling y'all now. So I called them and we came
- 46:05Speaker 6: and they came to the house and we did, you know,
- 46:08Speaker 6: my first ever like commercial on TV. And this is
- 46:11Speaker 6: like a global commercial seeing in worldwide people in all
- 46:16Speaker 6: different countries are seeing it. And I was able to
- 46:19Speaker 6: do the first commercial with them and their tag on
- 46:22Speaker 6: is really investing in greater possibilities and different things like that.
- 46:25Speaker 6: And so me working with Investco, they just shown like
- 46:29Speaker 6: my my growth with Spurgo. You could see from like
- 46:32Speaker 6: the beginning, like my beginning stages from my first commercial
- 46:37Speaker 6: to the second commercial. And then we got some more
- 46:39Speaker 6: commercials on the way and like you're just seeing a
- 46:42Speaker 6: growth like with me and also me just being like
- 46:44Speaker 6: a spoke spoke person you know for Investo and Investco
- 46:49Speaker 6: just you know, giving me a lot of opportunities and
- 46:52Speaker 6: you know, just you know, just really believing in me
- 46:55Speaker 6: and being able to capture the growth. And you also
- 46:59Speaker 6: do speaking public, speaking with the top with the.
- 47:02Speaker 3: Top person, the number one guy.
- 47:05Speaker 4: How did that come?
- 47:07Speaker 7: So?
- 47:07Speaker 6: I met mister A twenty eighteen. I met, you know,
- 47:12Speaker 6: mister E twenty eighteen September. He came to my mentor restaurant,
- 47:17Speaker 6: Jordan Johnson Seafood. He came through. I came up to
- 47:22Speaker 6: him like, hey, mister mister A, I look up to
- 47:24Speaker 6: you a lot. My name is Trey Brown, a twelve
- 47:27Speaker 6: year old entrepreneur at the time CEO of my own
- 47:30Speaker 6: clothing brand called Spurgo. I got some T shirts. Would
- 47:33Speaker 6: you like to support?
- 47:35Speaker 3: Just like that?
- 47:36Speaker 6: And I said, would you like to support? He said?
- 47:38Speaker 6: He said yeah. He said yeah, I'm gonna get a
- 47:42Speaker 6: shirt from me. I said, you need a shirt from
- 47:43Speaker 6: his d D he got, you know, he got some
- 47:48Speaker 6: Spurgo jerk. We took a video and then the next
- 47:52Speaker 6: year that I met him, like he was like he
- 47:55Speaker 6: was like so happy to see me because he seen
- 47:57Speaker 6: my commercial on CNN, and like we just stayed in connection,
- 48:01Speaker 6: you know, ever since then, because I watched mister every
- 48:04Speaker 6: day on YouTube and different things like that, and you know,
- 48:07Speaker 6: me and mister E, we would text each other and
- 48:09Speaker 6: stuff like that. So I would come to every conference,
- 48:11Speaker 6: every one percent club and everything like that, so I
- 48:16Speaker 6: would mister E would just keep seeing me. Uh yeah,
- 48:21Speaker 6: I was paying to go. And then my mom she
- 48:23Speaker 6: would volunteer and things like that, so that that's what
- 48:26Speaker 6: it was. And then mister he just kept seeing me,
- 48:29Speaker 6: seeing me on Instagram and then he let me come speak.
- 48:32Speaker 6: My first you know, speaking engagement with mister E was
- 48:35Speaker 6: last month in Atlanta and the crowd went like crazy,
- 48:39Speaker 6: that's crazy. So that was like that was that was
- 48:41Speaker 6: real cool. And now I'm on tour with him. You
- 48:43Speaker 6: ain't the bosson me tours, so that's amazing.
- 48:45Speaker 5: So when you started right when the kids didn't take
- 48:47Speaker 5: you seriously, that's one thing.
- 48:49Speaker 3: What was it like when you.
- 48:49Speaker 5: Were speaking in front of adults now and you're giving
- 48:52Speaker 5: them inspiration?
- 48:52Speaker 3: What was that like for you?
- 48:55Speaker 6: Uh, Like, I don't know. I was just like being myself,
- 48:59Speaker 6: Like it was just like I didn't I didn't really
- 49:03Speaker 6: even notice, Like I think the.
- 49:05Speaker 7: Hardest part was the kids part that that was the
- 49:08Speaker 7: hardest battle for him. I had to you know, I
- 49:10Speaker 7: was really encouraging him, like trading, now you're doing something amazing.
- 49:13Speaker 7: I think adults always kind of connected with Trade because
- 49:16Speaker 7: he's always been really mature and a lot of them
- 49:20Speaker 7: were really excited and Trade is just like excited to be,
- 49:24Speaker 7: you know, to talk with adults and stuff.
- 49:26Speaker 2: But the reason why actually if you paid for the conferences.
- 49:29Speaker 2: Because so it's another guest that we had on the podcast,
- 49:32Speaker 2: alumni Alex Good Energy. I don't know if you know him,
- 49:35Speaker 2: but he does trucking and he's connected with ET. He's
- 49:38Speaker 2: in the circle. And he was telling us that how
- 49:41Speaker 2: he got connected with ET is that he was paying
- 49:43Speaker 2: to go to his conferences for a long time and
- 49:45Speaker 2: he had like a cruise and he paid like ten
- 49:48Speaker 2: thousand dollars to go to the cruise and randomly he
- 49:51Speaker 2: didn't pay to meet him. He was just paying because
- 49:54Speaker 2: he got value out of it. And he randomly ended
- 49:57Speaker 2: up with his business partner CJ.
- 50:00Speaker 4: Yeah, and.
- 50:03Speaker 2: He was like and he was talking and then the
- 50:05Speaker 2: next thing he linked them with ET and the rest
- 50:07Speaker 2: is history. Now that business partners, I say that to say, A,
- 50:12Speaker 2: you have to be in the mix what we talked
- 50:13Speaker 2: about earlier, and B is like, since you got to
- 50:16Speaker 2: spend money, Like a lot of times people try to
- 50:17Speaker 2: be cheap skates and they don't want to spend money.
- 50:20Speaker 2: But it's like, you spend money to put yourself in positions.
- 50:24Speaker 2: It might work out, it might not, but you don't
- 50:27Speaker 2: know until you're actually in that position. So that's true
- 50:29Speaker 2: guests that we've had that's connected with ET, that started
- 50:33Speaker 2: with actually going to his conference as customers and not
- 50:38Speaker 2: really having any expectation, and then it just kind of
- 50:41Speaker 2: worked out organically, so you never know.
- 50:44Speaker 6: Now, me and mister EO, like we chop it up
- 50:46Speaker 6: every We chop it up right every other day. I'm
- 50:50Speaker 6: at the gym, he He'll text me, he he at
- 50:52Speaker 6: the gym really in the morning. You know, we're just
- 50:55Speaker 6: chopping it up updating each other. I still go to
- 50:58Speaker 6: the conferences to this day. You know, it's just all
- 51:01Speaker 6: about staying connected relationships, keeping relationships like relationships you know,
- 51:07Speaker 6: are like way more important. The value is bigger than
- 51:11Speaker 6: money and That's why I like the key relationships.
- 51:16Speaker 5: Can we talk about the online store because that changes
- 51:19Speaker 5: it for you, right, it went from being a local
- 51:21Speaker 5: brand to a global brand, Like you're shipping out to Germany,
- 51:24Speaker 5: you're shipping out to Africa.
- 51:26Speaker 3: Who's in charge of that? That that part of the business, right, Yes?
- 51:31Speaker 7: I mean, well, since it's a website that you can
- 51:33Speaker 7: connect with anybody around the world and people are just shopping.
- 51:38Speaker 5: So so I mean from the marketing standpoint, like how
- 51:41Speaker 5: is it Instagram that is putting you out in these
- 51:43Speaker 5: places or is there something.
- 51:44Speaker 7: That like So when we do our analytics and we look,
- 51:48Speaker 7: one of the top places is like an organic Google search.
- 51:53Speaker 7: And then also also I feel like a lot of
- 51:55Speaker 7: it comes from the commercial or they seeing the spot
- 51:59Speaker 7: it may be on like a celebrity or you know,
- 52:01Speaker 7: things like that. And another top spot is and through
- 52:03Speaker 7: social media through Instagram.
- 52:05Speaker 6: And I got so many short documentaries.
- 52:09Speaker 4: Who did it? Short documentaries?
- 52:12Speaker 6: I got one with a O L Improvising, I got
- 52:16Speaker 6: one with Whistle Sports. I have a lot of Fox Business,
- 52:22Speaker 6: even the ceing that commercial is on YouTube. Uh yeah,
- 52:28Speaker 6: I got so much like media out so it's like
- 52:31Speaker 6: you might just catch.
- 52:32Speaker 4: Me might even catch you in Tom Square on billboard?
- 52:39Speaker 4: How that? How did that come about?
- 52:41Speaker 6: So somebody has seen the commercial, big shout to mister Tracy.
- 52:45Speaker 6: He called me, he said, like, I want to give
- 52:48Speaker 6: you with a billboard and Tom Square. I picked up
- 52:50Speaker 6: the phone. I said, we're gonna be there Monday. We
- 52:52Speaker 6: got there that Monday. We got there that Monday. We
- 52:56Speaker 6: like to design the billboard and everything like that. I
- 52:59Speaker 6: said a date, and I had got like a charter
- 53:02Speaker 6: bus and my family had came out and they saw
- 53:05Speaker 6: the billboard and it was like really like a just
- 53:08Speaker 6: like you know, a moment of a lifetime to see
- 53:10Speaker 6: me up there. You know, they say half a million,
- 53:13Speaker 6: they said, they say half a million people like walk
- 53:16Speaker 6: past like that billboard every day on walk past Time Square.
- 53:20Speaker 6: You know, so just like half a million people, you know,
- 53:23Speaker 6: just looking at me, looking at you know, the billboard.
- 53:26Speaker 6: It was dope and like my first billboard to be
- 53:30Speaker 6: a billboard in the Times Square, Like that's amazing.
- 53:32Speaker 3: That's a great start, man. Two years, two years.
- 53:35Speaker 2: A lot could change in twenty four months. So all right,
- 53:39Speaker 2: so in the last second, we're gonna talk about the
- 53:41Speaker 2: vision going forward with Spargo and the personal brand and
- 53:44Speaker 2: everything else that you got going on. All right, so
- 53:48Speaker 2: what's next? What's what's the vision to scale the brand?
- 53:52Speaker 2: And like what what's the what's the next in line
- 53:55Speaker 2: for what's going on with Spurgo.
- 53:57Speaker 6: So what's next for Spargo is like my goal, you know,
- 54:01Speaker 6: my like my goal is for Spurgo to be like
- 54:04Speaker 6: a worldwide global brand, Spurgo to be like that positive brand.
- 54:08Speaker 6: You know, I want to have a great day. So
- 54:10Speaker 6: I'm gonna throwing my Spurgo now, I'm throwing my Spargo
- 54:12Speaker 6: wheel sweatsuit. I'm gonna throwing my Spurgo hoodie. And that's
- 54:15Speaker 6: how it is like right now, Like you know, anytime
- 54:19Speaker 6: like people wanna have a good day, they're gonna throw
- 54:21Speaker 6: in these Spurgo shirt. But I just wanted to be
- 54:23Speaker 6: like more like more worldwide and more global, Like I'm
- 54:27Speaker 6: shipping nationally and internationally every day, but I wanted to
- 54:30Speaker 6: be like I'm gonna have distribution centers out London, out
- 54:34Speaker 6: Africa and things like that. And also I want Spargo
- 54:37Speaker 6: to be in Neiman Marcus and you know the Sacks
- 54:40Speaker 6: and uh you know flagship store in Philadelphia. Uh, you
- 54:46Speaker 6: know for Spurgo, like I say, like so much Spurgo
- 54:50Speaker 6: to be a billion dollar company and then for me,
- 54:53Speaker 6: I have so much like on away, like uh, trade Cares.
- 54:57Speaker 6: I got a book on the way, and so tre
- 55:00Speaker 6: Cares is like.
- 55:02Speaker 7: It's like it's nonprofit where he has a lot of
- 55:05Speaker 7: things on his heart that he wants to kind of
- 55:08Speaker 7: you know, take give back and take under his wing.
- 55:10Speaker 7: Like one initiative that he's working on. This he wants
- 55:13Speaker 7: to like help with like childhood cancer. You know, as
- 55:18Speaker 7: a young girl in our community that has cancer and
- 55:21Speaker 7: you know, Trey really has a heart for her. So
- 55:24Speaker 7: he also has a thing with homeless people. So like
- 55:27Speaker 7: trade Cares is going to be his way to give
- 55:29Speaker 7: back to the community.
- 55:32Speaker 5: Now you said the flagship store, man, you want that
- 55:34Speaker 5: to be like the monument in Philly that people need
- 55:37Speaker 5: to come.
- 55:37Speaker 6: To, right, So I want to like I want Spurgo.
- 55:40Speaker 6: I want the Spargo Store to be like I have
- 55:42Speaker 6: to go to the Spargo Store. So like when you
- 55:44Speaker 6: come to Philly, it's like, oh, I want to go
- 55:46Speaker 6: to the Rocky Steps, but I want to like just
- 55:48Speaker 6: take that over, Like I want I want to go
- 55:51Speaker 6: to like the Spargo Store.
- 55:53Speaker 4: You know.
- 55:54Speaker 6: So I wanted to be a flagship store, you know,
- 55:57Speaker 6: Philadelphia might even just be like the only store the world,
- 56:00Speaker 6: like the only spargo store and like probably in just
- 56:04Speaker 6: like the USA.
- 56:05Speaker 3: But that's what we were saying.
- 56:06Speaker 5: We were like, we've seen that with right when Crenshaw
- 56:09Speaker 5: wasn't a place to go, he turned it into Venice Beach.
- 56:12Speaker 5: When you go to La now you want to go
- 56:13Speaker 5: to Marathon stuff. That's what That's what Spurgo is going.
- 56:16Speaker 2: So, like, do you have any entrepreneurs that you because
- 56:18Speaker 2: I know it's like Milano and she's doing or even
- 56:23Speaker 2: like a Virgil a blow, do you have like any
- 56:25Speaker 2: people that you like look up to in the fashion
- 56:28Speaker 2: game or so.
- 56:29Speaker 6: Both of them, Like I look up to Milano a
- 56:31Speaker 6: lot I look up to I look up to mister
- 56:36Speaker 6: Virgil wet so, but I looked up to like a
- 56:46Speaker 6: lot of like business people as well, like just more
- 56:50Speaker 6: more people more like business people like you know mister
- 56:55Speaker 6: like uncle business and they people like we just chop
- 57:01Speaker 6: it up like facetiming each other on a regular and
- 57:04Speaker 6: things like that. But like a lot of the you know,
- 57:07Speaker 6: entrepreneurs and everything, Like I see like a lot what's
- 57:10Speaker 6: going on, and I'm just loving like the energy. You know,
- 57:13Speaker 6: people are just starting to chase their dreams and everybody
- 57:16Speaker 6: is like starting to It's starting to become like a
- 57:18Speaker 6: wave a little bit, and it's like a positive wave,
- 57:21Speaker 6: Like I'm opening up my business and it's starting to
- 57:24Speaker 6: be a cool thing, you know, and I like, I
- 57:28Speaker 6: love and I see what you at.
- 57:29Speaker 3: The forefront, bro, you got the forefront of it.
- 57:32Speaker 5: That's so you said that these guys were your mentors
- 57:35Speaker 5: before they even knew it, right, Like you said Diddy
- 57:37Speaker 5: and Damon John. Have you run into Damon John because
- 57:40Speaker 5: I know he's doing it in the business world, but
- 57:41Speaker 5: he also comes from the fashion word.
- 57:43Speaker 3: Have you any interactions with him?
- 57:44Speaker 6: No, I haven't met Damon John yet. I do Guys book,
- 57:48Speaker 6: I read it. I watched Shark Tank every night, so
- 57:51Speaker 6: he mentoring me. But he just.
- 57:55Speaker 4: We actually just met him in Miami. I just I
- 57:58Speaker 4: just met him in Miami. Just hopefully.
- 58:05Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be on the podcast. Well we'll
- 58:08Speaker 2: connect the dots when he comes on the podcast.
- 58:09Speaker 6: All don't be holding out.
- 58:12Speaker 2: Selection that selection in the game. So what's the full
- 58:13Speaker 2: collection for Spurgo? Because you start with T shirts.
- 58:16Speaker 4: But now you have a full array of unisex clothing,
- 58:19Speaker 4: right right.
- 58:20Speaker 6: So now we have like different Like when I first started,
- 58:24Speaker 6: I had you know, T shirts, sixteen white t shirts.
- 58:26Speaker 6: Now we have T shirts and different colors, different designs,
- 58:31Speaker 6: and we have a full collection sweatsuits, swimwear, footwear, socks,
- 58:38Speaker 6: you know, slides, We have body suits for women. We
- 58:43Speaker 6: have like, you know, a lot of different headbands, hats,
- 58:47Speaker 6: and we got you know, so much on the way.
- 58:49Speaker 7: What else we got There's a lot of different things
- 58:51Speaker 7: on the way.
- 58:53Speaker 6: But product wise, we got oh yeah, we got under.
- 58:58Speaker 7: That's gonna be released.
- 59:00Speaker 2: Who's a designer? Like who designs the like where you
- 59:03Speaker 2: want to put the spurgo?
- 59:05Speaker 6: Like you know me and mom really is just me
- 59:08Speaker 6: and Mom is designer and everything.
- 59:10Speaker 5: So y'all at night, like you're the creative mind behind
- 59:13Speaker 5: this whole thing, Like all we're gonna do this color,
- 59:14Speaker 5: this rabric.
- 59:15Speaker 6: That's y'all too, Yeah, Mom, Mom really does a lot
- 59:18Speaker 6: of like like Mom does like really like me, all right,
- 59:23Speaker 6: So it's like Mom does like a lot of designing.
- 59:25Speaker 6: I do like a lot of like like people emailing,
- 59:29Speaker 6: I'll email him back.
- 59:31Speaker 7: He does a lot of forefront stuff. So like, for instance,
- 59:35Speaker 7: He'll be like, like he said, Mom, we need some
- 59:37Speaker 7: spurgle underwear. So it's like I know about fabrics and
- 59:41Speaker 7: stuff like that, so I'll kind of say, well, Trey,
- 59:43Speaker 7: do you want this kind of fabric or that kind
- 59:45Speaker 7: of fabric? So I'll kind of like give him like
- 59:48Speaker 7: a like parameters like and different ideas and say well
- 59:51Speaker 7: do you want this or do you want that? Or
- 59:53Speaker 7: he'll come to me and say, Mom, we need this
- 59:55Speaker 7: and needs to look like this, this, this, and that,
- 59:58Speaker 7: and I'll say, all right, well we can put it
- 59:59Speaker 7: on this average or this printend I think will be best.
- 1:00:02Speaker 7: So it's kind of like a collaboration of you know,
- 1:00:05Speaker 7: what he wants, the ideas that he want, and then
- 1:00:07Speaker 7: it's like what makes sense.
- 1:00:09Speaker 5: That's kind of what the ways that we spoke to him.
- 1:00:11Speaker 5: He was like, listen, it's about putting people around you
- 1:00:13Speaker 5: that can get your ideas into reality.
- 1:00:15Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: He has the ideas and you're like, all right, this
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: is how we put it into right.
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: So how do you determine the price points?
- 1:00:23Speaker 7: Mm hmm.
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: Ah.
- 1:00:28Speaker 7: So a lot of times, so like when we first
- 1:00:30Speaker 7: when he first started, like so, my undergrade is in
- 1:00:32Speaker 7: accounting and I was in accounting for six years before
- 1:00:36Speaker 7: I was a teacher. When we when he said he
- 1:00:39Speaker 7: wanted to start a clothing line, he we had like
- 1:00:41Speaker 7: a little business meeting where we talked about profits and
- 1:00:43Speaker 7: laws and things like that. So he kind of like
- 1:00:46Speaker 7: just calculate like what it costs, like everything from the
- 1:00:50Speaker 7: manufacturing to shipping, to packaging to processing and things like that,
- 1:00:55Speaker 7: and then we kind of like multiply words though he
- 1:00:57Speaker 7: can get a profit off of it.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: Dope, dope. Yeah, it's always good to have an in
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: house accounting.
- 1:01:05Speaker 5: I'm like, wait, mom is a teacher and an accountant
- 1:01:07Speaker 5: and an entrepreneur and she got two kids that she
- 1:01:10Speaker 5: got to watch, and.
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: So do you want it?
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: So as far as the business Spargo that's up and running,
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: do you have a do you have goals to start
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: other businesses like separate from Spargo?
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:01:19Speaker 6: So I got like a lot of different businesses in mine.
- 1:01:24Speaker 6: I got a book coming out, and then also just
- 1:01:28Speaker 6: like different businesses, like I want to have a security company,
- 1:01:31Speaker 6: cleaning company, watch security security, you know, because I like
- 1:01:35Speaker 6: it's important everybody needs security.
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: Everybody in your circle, everybody.
- 1:01:45Speaker 6: And then also, uh, it's like a good business. It's
- 1:01:50Speaker 6: good for business as well, like you could easily get
- 1:01:52Speaker 6: contracted cleaning.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: All your celebrity friends. Though you can just handle it, Diddy,
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: I got you, don't worry about it.
- 1:02:01Speaker 5: But so I know you had a lot of mentors
- 1:02:04Speaker 5: right coming up in this game in your in your
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: mind in the next few years, you feel like you're
- 1:02:09Speaker 5: going to be going back doing some mentorship in your community.
- 1:02:11Speaker 6: Yes, So that's what That's what I'm working on right now,
- 1:02:16Speaker 6: is just being able to because I know that I
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: can't like talk to everybody personally, but I want to
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: build like I want to build like a network, you know,
- 1:02:25Speaker 6: for kids to you know, come and express like their
- 1:02:28Speaker 6: dreams and how they could turn it into like a
- 1:02:31Speaker 6: business or how they could you know, turn it into
- 1:02:34Speaker 6: you know, some something where.
- 1:02:36Speaker 7: Yeah, we're still trying to flush it out because Trey
- 1:02:39Speaker 7: gets dms all the time on like what to do next?
- 1:02:42Speaker 6: Okay, yeah, so like what.
- 1:02:44Speaker 7: Like how like can you take a look at this
- 1:02:46Speaker 7: or can you you know, so he wants to have
- 1:02:48Speaker 7: like a program where you know, kids can come and
- 1:02:52Speaker 7: like he can spend that time with them and work
- 1:02:54Speaker 7: work through it because the dms are really like.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: You know, it's it's a lie so mom, and like
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: because there's a lot of sports parents, right, and like
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: if you if you have a child to play sports,
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: you know, it's a demand, like you got taken the
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: AAU and you got practice and all of that. But
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: it's like to be a business mom and like support
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: your child entrepreneurial dreams. Like what advice can you give
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: to parents to like encourage them, Like if their kid
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: has an idea to start a business, Like you have
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: any tips for parents for that?
- 1:03:24Speaker 7: Yeah, I would say, like to trust your kids. You know,
- 1:03:27Speaker 7: sometimes we feel like we have all the information and
- 1:03:30Speaker 7: we have like all the answers, but kids know a lot,
- 1:03:33Speaker 7: you know, they come from a place that we don't
- 1:03:35Speaker 7: come from. Like me and Trey is like a great
- 1:03:37Speaker 7: team because he's actually taught me so much. Because I
- 1:03:41Speaker 7: think as an adult, we kind of experience some things
- 1:03:44Speaker 7: where we're like afraid, or we face rejection or you know,
- 1:03:48Speaker 7: like we we think too much, whereas though Trade is
- 1:03:51Speaker 7: like fearless with a lot of things. And you know,
- 1:03:54Speaker 7: I remember when he's when he talked about me and
- 1:03:56Speaker 7: Meek or whatever, and I was just like, you're not
- 1:03:59Speaker 7: We're not going to ge it up to the line.
- 1:04:01Speaker 7: Because you know, the line was actually wrapped around the corner.
- 1:04:03Speaker 7: I'm like, we're not gonna get there, and you know,
- 1:04:05Speaker 7: Trey just walked his way up to the front and
- 1:04:07Speaker 7: they were like, yeah, hey, spurgo come here, and you know,
- 1:04:10Speaker 7: just having that fearless and you know, just like you know,
- 1:04:13Speaker 7: I want this and I'm gonna go after it. So
- 1:04:16Speaker 7: just trusting your kid, I think that's really important. Kids
- 1:04:18Speaker 7: are smart, you know, they know what they like, they
- 1:04:21Speaker 7: know what they want, and you know, I think sometimes
- 1:04:23Speaker 7: as adults we think we know what's best for them,
- 1:04:26Speaker 7: but we need to give them credit and let them
- 1:04:29Speaker 7: even affirm them and knowing that they know what's best
- 1:04:32Speaker 7: for them.
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: It's beautiful to watch because like even when we were
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: at lunch and he was trying to always like yeah,
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: we're gonna eat that, and it was that look like
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: if that's okay with you, mom, there's still that balance there, like, yo,
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: this is but this is my part of right right.
- 1:04:46Speaker 7: So I feel like, just let them dream, you know,
- 1:04:48Speaker 7: let them let them and I feel like give them
- 1:04:51Speaker 7: the tools. I know, I feel like I didn't figure
- 1:04:53Speaker 7: life out until I was like thirty ish thirty two,
- 1:04:57Speaker 7: you know, so I spent a lot of years making
- 1:04:59Speaker 7: mist so like I feel like if I can give
- 1:05:02Speaker 7: my kids an opportunity to experience, experiment with different things,
- 1:05:07Speaker 7: you know, to try different things. You know, Trey started
- 1:05:11Speaker 7: off with music. It was expensive being a teacher. We
- 1:05:13Speaker 7: don't make much, so like going to the studio and
- 1:05:16Speaker 7: stuff like yeah, I'm trade, Like Mommy, I need to
- 1:05:20Speaker 7: be in a studio, And I'm like, all right. We
- 1:05:22Speaker 7: went a couple of times. After about the fourth times
- 1:05:24Speaker 7: been at hundreds of dollars, I'm like, trade, we might
- 1:05:26Speaker 7: need to wait a month or two, you know. But
- 1:05:29Speaker 7: like my daughter, she wanted to do like cooking and dance,
- 1:05:32Speaker 7: and you know, like I don't look at it as
- 1:05:35Speaker 7: like a waste of money to allow them to try
- 1:05:37Speaker 7: different things. You know, if I see, you know, a
- 1:05:39Speaker 7: gift in them, and I think they should push further.
- 1:05:42Speaker 7: Like we're not gonna skip and just go to something different,
- 1:05:45Speaker 7: but I'm allowed you to be interested in something, in
- 1:05:47Speaker 7: it and invest in it. You know, we're gonna work
- 1:05:49Speaker 7: it out. You're not gonna quit for any reason. But
- 1:05:52Speaker 7: if it's something there, I feel like maybe you're not
- 1:05:54Speaker 7: gifted in or you don't like, you know, we can't
- 1:05:57Speaker 7: try something else, you know.
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: So yeah, I think that that's a that's apparent's job
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: to nurture your child's dreams and it just doesn't have
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: to be sports and entertainment. That's what we're used to
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: in our communities. It's nothing wrong with that, but it's
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: like their dreams might be to be a journalist or
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: to be exactly a doctor or an entrepreneur, and you
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: gotta give that same nurture that if you're taking your
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: kid to the basketball court at six o'clock in the
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: morning and do drills with them, you gotta do the
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: same thing.
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: Entrepreneur.
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: We gotta go to the barbershop every Saturday, like we
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: just got to do it.
- 1:06:30Speaker 7: Yeah, it was definitely a sacrifice because like those saturdays
- 1:06:33Speaker 7: were my only day off, So it's definitely a sacrifice.
- 1:06:37Speaker 7: But I saw how he was learning like good character
- 1:06:43Speaker 7: skill like traits that you know I would talk about,
- 1:06:47Speaker 7: but it's when he was learning in motion. It was
- 1:06:50Speaker 7: just like stuff that was sticking. I saw him that,
- 1:06:52Speaker 7: I saw him get like hungry, like I saw these
- 1:06:56Speaker 7: great things coming about, and it was just like wow,
- 1:06:58Speaker 7: you know, for me, when it started, it was like, oh,
- 1:07:02Speaker 7: this is cute. You know, this is an opportunity for
- 1:07:04Speaker 7: me to spend time with my kids and you know,
- 1:07:07Speaker 7: do something fun with them. But after I saw after
- 1:07:11Speaker 7: about a month, and I saw that this was something
- 1:07:13Speaker 7: that like it grew in him, like he even wanted
- 1:07:16Speaker 7: to do it, but I saw it grow to be
- 1:07:18Speaker 7: like dream, like his dream got bigger and bigger every week.
- 1:07:23Speaker 8: So keeping but before we wrap up, can you give
- 1:07:30Speaker 8: any words to young entrepreneurs Trey that any kids?
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: Like, what's your advice for young entrepreneurs kids that may
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: be interested in business?
- 1:07:42Speaker 7: Uh?
- 1:07:43Speaker 6: Here are like some tips from me. It was like,
- 1:07:46Speaker 6: find your passion. Find like what comes easy to you
- 1:07:50Speaker 6: and hard to others. Find your passion, you know, and
- 1:07:54Speaker 6: run with it too. It's like your network is your networth,
- 1:07:58Speaker 6: Like the people that you anger around, you know, determines
- 1:08:02Speaker 6: like really who you who? Who you're going to be?
- 1:08:06Speaker 6: Like if I hang around five millionaires every day, you
- 1:08:09Speaker 6: know I'm done to be. Like the sixth one third
- 1:08:13Speaker 6: one is just when you get started doing what you're doing,
- 1:08:17Speaker 6: stay consistent at it. Now the like staying consistent and
- 1:08:23Speaker 6: wise man said, if you persistent, you would get it,
- 1:08:27Speaker 6: but if you consistent, you would keep it.
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: That's that's like that goes back to like the brand,
- 1:08:36Speaker 6: you know, consistency, like when I always had to yeah recognition. Yeah,
- 1:08:41Speaker 6: like brand recognition, Like I always had the same T
- 1:08:44Speaker 6: shirt on, you know, from months straight. You know, that's consistency,
- 1:08:47Speaker 6: like me going out to the barbershops every Saturday. That's consistency.
- 1:08:51Speaker 6: Like it's so easy to get it, but it's easy
- 1:08:55Speaker 6: to drop the ball as well, so you gotta stay consistent.
- 1:08:58Speaker 6: Also just you know, just staying educated. And you know,
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: you can learn in many ways like me school, I
- 1:09:05Speaker 6: can learn learn it from you guys's podcasts. Uh, reading
- 1:09:12Speaker 6: books like Rich Dad, Poor Dad, my book I got
- 1:09:15Speaker 6: coming Out. Uh, you know, education is key. And then
- 1:09:19Speaker 6: last one is like affirm and positive things, Like every
- 1:09:22Speaker 6: single day when I get up, I'm affirming it. I'm
- 1:09:25Speaker 6: gonna have a good day, you like it or not.
- 1:09:27Speaker 6: Like I'm affirming that, I'm affirming. I'm affirming positive things
- 1:09:32Speaker 6: every single day. I'm affirming that I'm building an empire.
- 1:09:35Speaker 6: I'm building a billion dollar brand. I'm building that I'm
- 1:09:38Speaker 6: a happy person. Like I'm affirming everything like that, Like
- 1:09:41Speaker 6: I am happy, i am strong, I'm powerful, I'm courageous,
- 1:09:45Speaker 6: like I am successful. I say that stuff every single
- 1:09:49Speaker 6: day in the morning. So when somebody might talk down
- 1:09:52Speaker 6: on me that like, you know, that don't really affect
- 1:09:54Speaker 6: me because you know self, self love is you know here,
- 1:10:00Speaker 6: love is the best love. So that's my tips, like
- 1:10:02Speaker 6: to up and coming entrepreneurs, up and coming you know,
- 1:10:06Speaker 6: just people that's just trying to find yourself, like find
- 1:10:08Speaker 6: your passion, your network is your networth, staying consistent, staying educated,
- 1:10:15Speaker 6: and affirming positive things a lot.
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: Man, Thank you guys, appreciate it. How can people contact
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: you with social media, website all of that information?
