- 0:03Speaker 1: This podcast called twenty five whist stuck in punt ball
- 0:08Speaker 1: and they were a whist So, yeah, it's too bad,
- 0:11Speaker 1: But what did you expect? It's a podcast called twenty.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Five Whistles twenty wine. Welcome, I blew the whistle. But
- 0:22Speaker 2: guess who was here? Eddie just got here. Hey, I'm back.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Hold on, I got back. Where it is?
- 0:28Speaker 4: Back?
- 0:30Speaker 2: What's up everybody? We got a lot to talk about.
- 0:32Speaker 2: So we go, and Eddie's you went with us.
- 0:35Speaker 5: So we flew to Los Angeles and I flew over
- 0:39Speaker 5: and you missed rich Eisen by the way.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I know.
- 0:42Speaker 3: That's the first thing I asked you when we talked
- 0:43Speaker 3: on the phone. I'm like, did I have miss Richards?
- 0:45Speaker 3: And yep, he was.
- 0:46Speaker 2: He was awesome, wasn't Was it so cool?
- 0:49Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 0:49Speaker 2: He just showed up an uber.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Did you play pickleball with him?
- 0:52Speaker 2: No, because he came into town.
- 0:55Speaker 5: He had done the Hall of Fame the night before,
- 0:58Speaker 5: and he was doing the show from our house and
- 1:00Speaker 5: then he was right back on a flight and he
- 1:02Speaker 5: was dressed in like slacks and stuff. So we didn't
- 1:04Speaker 5: play any pickleball. But then I he got to the
- 1:06Speaker 5: airport and his flight was canceled.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Oh no, I know. So then he said come back,
- 1:09Speaker 3: let's play pickleball.
- 1:10Speaker 5: I didn't know it was canceled till the next day,
- 1:13Speaker 5: So yeah, it's good.
- 1:15Speaker 2: He's really cool, right awesome. Yeah, yeah, I'm sorry. I'm
- 1:18Speaker 2: sorry missed that.
- 1:19Speaker 5: So we went back out to LA and I was
- 1:22Speaker 5: going to speak at a like a radio conference out
- 1:24Speaker 5: there in San Diego.
- 1:27Speaker 2: But we flew to Los Angeles and Rich was like, hey,
- 1:30Speaker 2: come do my show.
- 1:31Speaker 5: Because I've hosted a show, I've never done his show.
- 1:34Speaker 5: And mostly I feel like that's like going, hey, we
- 1:36Speaker 5: should get dinner sometime, right, but not do it. You'll
- 1:39Speaker 5: ever put specifics on it. And so was flying to
- 1:43Speaker 5: LA and he goes, oh, you guys are going to
- 1:44Speaker 5: the Chargers. He was like, we're right by the complex.
- 1:47Speaker 5: Let's like come by. So I feel I don't feel bad,
- 1:53Speaker 5: but I feel like a burden because I don't feel
- 1:56Speaker 5: like he really means it. Now full disclosure trans parency.
- 2:00Speaker 5: Rich and I have the same agent, So Jerry is
- 2:04Speaker 5: Rich's agent, Jerry is my agent. And Jerry is like,
- 2:06Speaker 5: he wouldn't invite you unless he wanted you to come
- 2:09Speaker 5: on the show. And I'm like, okay, so we land
- 2:12Speaker 5: and we're already in a pretty tight window, and.
- 2:14Speaker 2: We flew southwest or we fly delta. What do we fly.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Delta?
- 2:21Speaker 5: We fight Delta to the southwest back And that was
- 2:24Speaker 5: a whole disaster, not southwest fault, because we had get
- 2:27Speaker 5: a flight so late. Dude, I was in c in
- 2:29Speaker 5: the middle, in the back. It was like a four
- 2:33Speaker 5: and a half hour misery fat. So we're getting there
- 2:39Speaker 5: and there's four of us because you're not there obviously
- 2:41Speaker 5: you're dealing with your personal stuff. So it's me, Kevin, Mike,
- 2:44Speaker 5: Dee and Reed and we're going to do this whole thing.
- 2:47Speaker 5: And so I don't want to.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Miss Rich and we're already like flirting with the last
- 2:53Speaker 2: hour of the show.
- 2:53Speaker 5: So I say, okay, Mike and I are breaking off
- 2:56Speaker 5: and we're gonna go grab an uber Re and Kevin
- 3:00Speaker 5: are gonna go get the rental car and we'll all
- 3:03Speaker 5: just meet over there. We run, we hop an new
- 3:06Speaker 5: ober Boom. I don't normally take anything to fly. I
- 3:11Speaker 5: took a Xanax to fly and sleep as well the
- 3:14Speaker 5: night before and I was like, man, I have a
- 3:16Speaker 5: big day. I need to sleep on the plane. The
- 3:18Speaker 5: thing about not taking Xanax and then you finally take it,
- 3:21Speaker 5: it doesn't wear off. No, no, And so I take
- 3:24Speaker 5: this and I'm just like, I fall asleep on the
- 3:25Speaker 5: plane for a little bit, but I have like an
- 3:28Speaker 5: umbrella of confusion just on top of my head. And
- 3:32Speaker 5: I'm going into richest studio. I'm like, oh, so there's
- 3:35Speaker 5: no green there's no green room or guestro. And they're like, oh,
- 3:37Speaker 5: because we're running so tight, they're like just going going
- 3:40Speaker 5: to the studio hopping the chair like Riches's in the
- 3:42Speaker 5: middle of a segment.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Oh no.
- 3:44Speaker 5: And I and as soon as I sit down, I'm like, hey, man,
- 3:47Speaker 5: I'm on Xanax. I said on the microphone, just because
- 3:50Speaker 5: I knew wasn't gonna be completely right, or if it wasn't,
- 3:54Speaker 5: I need And so they make some jokes like the
- 3:56Speaker 5: first person ever openly admit he's on Xanax. So oh,
- 4:00Speaker 5: I did that segment like a half of a segment.
- 4:02Speaker 5: I stay for a whole other segment. I think in
- 4:04Speaker 5: the end, it ended up being a pretty good appearance.
- 4:06Speaker 5: All the guys got to come in and good to
- 4:08Speaker 5: see all the guys again.
- 4:10Speaker 2: And so we do that and Rich is awesome and
- 4:15Speaker 2: so leave then where do we go to the NFL?
- 4:19Speaker 3: No, to radio.
- 4:21Speaker 5: Oh, then we go to the radio show because we
- 4:23Speaker 5: have some radio step to record and countdown step to record.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Then in LA sucks balls because dude, it's just like
- 4:31Speaker 5: it's an hour to go twelve minutes. Yeah, yeah, like
- 4:34Speaker 5: at twelve minutes here is an hour there.
- 4:35Speaker 3: That's why Kobe had a helicopter.
- 4:37Speaker 5: Oh oh.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Well he was also like out out of LA.
- 4:42Speaker 6: But I mean we were a buy where is caught
- 4:43Speaker 6: through your crash?
- 4:44Speaker 5: Oh, but he would like travel in. So we go
- 4:47Speaker 5: and it takes us an hour to get over to work.
- 4:50Speaker 5: We work, go back to the NFL. In the NFL,
- 4:55Speaker 5: which had nothing to do with the Chargers, they're like, hey,
- 4:58Speaker 5: come tour the media office. NFL was trying without jeopardizing
- 5:03Speaker 5: anything or saying too much. And if I was trying
- 5:06Speaker 5: to hire me for something, yeah, I know, it's crazy.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Okay, so we go.
- 5:09Speaker 2: I don't even really know what it is. All I
- 5:12Speaker 2: tell the guys is we're gonna go.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Look. Okay.
- 5:14Speaker 6: He doesn't tell us anything because.
- 5:17Speaker 2: I didn't really know. I didn't really know that.
- 5:19Speaker 5: But when we got so this is the NFL offices, Yes,
- 5:22Speaker 5: it's yes, it's where they shoot everything. It's where they
- 5:24Speaker 5: do Sunday ticket, It's where they zone good Morning Football.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Now, so that's where they do all that.
- 5:30Speaker 5: Okay, it's all their all their meat, the studio after studio,
- 5:34Speaker 5: and they're slowly going like and you can use this
- 5:36Speaker 5: anytime you want.
- 5:37Speaker 2: And I'm like, you guys trying to get me take
- 5:39Speaker 2: a job.
- 5:40Speaker 5: Like I knew there had been some discussions about me
- 5:44Speaker 5: doing some stuff with the NFL, But didn't you feel
- 5:46Speaker 5: like it was like, oh yeah, they were like super
- 5:48Speaker 5: warm and like so lovely, like trying to convince me
- 5:52Speaker 5: to take a job with the NFL.
- 5:53Speaker 2: I didn't know there was a job.
- 5:55Speaker 6: Yeah, he could have done whatever he wanted in that building.
- 5:57Speaker 6: That would have been okay.
- 5:58Speaker 2: They were so nice and what the I same.
- 6:02Speaker 5: I remember talk to like whist Berny Kevin, like I
- 6:06Speaker 5: think they like want to hire on me right now,
- 6:07Speaker 5: I don't even know what for. So we go through
- 6:10Speaker 5: the NFL opposite it's and it's really cool, right, like
- 6:13Speaker 5: oh my god. And they would be like, ah, this
- 6:15Speaker 5: room it's not fully developed yet, dude. It's like the
- 6:17Speaker 5: greatest media technical face.
- 6:19Speaker 2: It's like compared to our room, they're like, we're sorry.
- 6:23Speaker 2: This is our is like a garbage can compared to
- 6:25Speaker 2: what they have.
- 6:26Speaker 3: So we do that.
- 6:27Speaker 2: We leave there.
- 6:28Speaker 5: We go over to the chargers and the you know,
- 6:32Speaker 5: it's camp and it was practicing, and so we're getting
- 6:35Speaker 5: toward around the facilities and their facilities aren't really near
- 6:41Speaker 5: the stadium. They're twenty minutes away, but you know, they're normal.
- 6:44Speaker 5: Every day is not at the stadium. Yeah, So they
- 6:47Speaker 5: have these cool things in the lockers where they put
- 6:48Speaker 5: up the starred recruits that they were. Some of them
- 6:53Speaker 5: are not rated, some of them are two stars and
- 6:54Speaker 5: they were five stars. But it's like you're all here,
- 6:56Speaker 5: you're all the same now, and look, you all came
- 6:58Speaker 5: from different place. It was pretty cool because we walked
- 7:01Speaker 5: to the locker room. Now we're walking through the locker
- 7:03Speaker 5: room and Mike goes, don't say who it is, guys,
- 7:07Speaker 5: Mike goes.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Is that so just randomly? Because is that so and so?
- 7:12Speaker 2: And I'm like, what the crap? And so I go
- 7:16Speaker 2: over and I kind of annoyed.
- 7:18Speaker 5: I probably annoyed the charge parts because I spent the
- 7:20Speaker 5: next twenty minutes talking to whomever that might be randomly saw.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Do you know who we saw in the hallway.
- 7:25Speaker 3: No, was it a charger?
- 7:26Speaker 2: No muss, what's just hanging out?
- 7:29Speaker 5: He was, I mean he lives there now, so he's
- 7:32Speaker 5: head coach USC basketball. Yeah, Eric Musselman, head basketball coach.
- 7:36Speaker 2: And I was like, must he's like Bobby.
- 7:38Speaker 3: So we just talked.
- 7:40Speaker 5: We talked like twenty minutes, just like catching up. That's
- 7:42Speaker 5: just saw him in the complex and so he was
- 7:44Speaker 5: just out watching practice too. Did the stuff there. Drove
- 7:47Speaker 5: down to Sandy. I went to PF Changs again tradition,
- 7:51Speaker 5: we always got.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Drove down to what's up. We just walked in.
- 8:00Speaker 7: Oh, man, I love PF Chain's. Man, it destroyed my stomach,
- 8:03Speaker 7: but I love that place.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Yeah, why why did it destroy?
- 8:07Speaker 3: What happened?
- 8:08Speaker 4: Did you have?
- 8:08Speaker 1: That was like?
- 8:08Speaker 2: It was the spicy uh orange? The orange shaken?
- 8:12Speaker 3: Remember it was.
- 8:13Speaker 2: It was way spicier than normal.
- 8:15Speaker 3: It's normally not spicy.
- 8:16Speaker 5: No.
- 8:16Speaker 6: Even then, I was like, whoa southern California version?
- 8:19Speaker 2: Son of a gun.
- 8:20Speaker 5: So we went down and did the deal, flew home
- 8:22Speaker 5: and then so we're we had to change our flights.
- 8:24Speaker 5: So I think somebody got drafted with Minnesota. They had
- 8:27Speaker 5: like their feu like a.
- 8:29Speaker 6: Yeah, the corner that passed away. They had his service
- 8:31Speaker 6: on that Friday, so.
- 8:32Speaker 2: We were like, let's not go.
- 8:33Speaker 5: We were going to go from California there, so we
- 8:36Speaker 5: switched our flights last minute to come home. Problem switching
- 8:40Speaker 5: your flight last minute, dude, I was like C ninety
- 8:43Speaker 5: one the last. So not only that, we're already running
- 8:49Speaker 5: a little tight because our flight was at like six
- 8:52Speaker 5: thirty out, so we had to be there like five thirty.
- 8:55Speaker 5: So Kevin's got to drop the rental car off. He
- 8:57Speaker 5: lets us off, like good dad does. That's nice, but
- 9:00Speaker 5: he didn't realize it was twenty minutes away. Yeah, the
- 9:02Speaker 5: rental car play at.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Least ten off site. Yeah, ten fifteen minutes.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Of LA one Yeah. Oh San Diego, San Diego. No,
- 9:08Speaker 3: I've never been there, Okay, so anyway, I gotta fly.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I I'm and I sat next to this dude who
- 9:13Speaker 2: had to be six or four calves like big read.
- 9:17Speaker 2: He read us in the middle reads a month reads
- 9:20Speaker 2: A big kid, A big kid, he's just like big
- 9:24Speaker 2: flew home. I was exhausted, but that was what you missed.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Oh man, sounds like I didn't miss much.
- 9:30Speaker 5: On opposite, it was crazy to seeing must there. Yeah,
- 9:34Speaker 5: So what did you guys talk about? I just caught
- 9:36Speaker 5: up what we did talk about. There was a lot
- 9:39Speaker 5: of stuff I can't talk about here, No, I know,
- 9:42Speaker 5: but not bad stuff, but just like uh you know,
- 9:45Speaker 5: program stuff for.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Sure, sure, recruiting. Yeah, you talk about what he left
- 9:49Speaker 3: behind a little bit.
- 9:50Speaker 5: No, because he didn't leave anything behind. Everybody left situations
- 9:53Speaker 5: and what the you.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Know what it is now?
- 9:55Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 9:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I got you, I got you.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I know everything is. It was awesome. We had
- 9:59Speaker 2: a great a little run there.
- 10:01Speaker 5: We'll be talking to Jed Fish, the head football coach
- 10:04Speaker 5: University of Washington just a few minutes, which would be
- 10:06Speaker 5: super cool. The Olympics were a plus. I mean, we
- 10:10Speaker 5: almost lost to Serbia. We haven't been on since then.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Basketball.
- 10:13Speaker 5: Yeah, we were down two. They had the ball forty
- 10:15Speaker 5: seconds left. Had they made that three, it's a whole
- 10:17Speaker 5: new ball game, or it's a bad ball game for us.
- 10:19Speaker 5: But they weren't like over ten in the second half
- 10:22Speaker 5: shooting threes.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Basketball is cool in the Olympics because it didn't matter
- 10:26Speaker 3: what team they're playing, like most of them playing in
- 10:28Speaker 3: the NBA anyway. But then you look at the French team, right,
- 10:31Speaker 3: and they got some ballers on there and they play.
- 10:34Speaker 3: They don't play NBA. They don't play in D League.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Like they're awesome, but they don't. They're not even good
- 10:38Speaker 3: enough to play in the NBA.
- 10:39Speaker 5: I would say that most aren't, like the Serbian guys.
- 10:42Speaker 5: I think they had two NBA players Mgdonovic.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that was it.
- 10:49Speaker 5: But again, some of those guys would rather not play
- 10:51Speaker 5: in G League. Theyoul play, they'd rather play for their
- 10:53Speaker 5: the big European leagues. Well, no, European leagues are bigger,
- 10:56Speaker 5: they can make more money, like the French guy that
- 11:00Speaker 5: dunked on Lebron, but leb was trying to take a
- 11:02Speaker 5: charge to be fair.
- 11:03Speaker 6: Yeah, and I go big and six eight, yeah, but
- 11:06Speaker 6: thick big.
- 11:08Speaker 2: But he was drafted first overall by Boston.
- 11:10Speaker 6: Yeah, he played for the Celtics and like he had
- 11:13Speaker 6: a couple of.
- 11:14Speaker 5: Runs where you know they'd come back, NBA would come back,
- 11:17Speaker 5: and they were even talking about I think he plays
- 11:18Speaker 5: for like man U Basketball or something, and he was like,
- 11:21Speaker 5: I'm not going back unless I have like a guaranteed
- 11:23Speaker 5: deal because I make a good living doing so those
- 11:25Speaker 5: European guys, they definitely get to the G League and
- 11:31Speaker 5: play the same four people over and over again and
- 11:33Speaker 5: maybe make no money, yeah, or like play European basketball.
- 11:36Speaker 2: And like you're a god there.
- 11:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:38Speaker 3: But I watched Canada. It's like, oh wow, Like I
- 11:40Speaker 3: didn't know a lot of NBA guys like Canada, Canadian,
- 11:43Speaker 3: that's crazy.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:44Speaker 5: I only did like from the last three months, same
- 11:50Speaker 5: show when they were like getting the Canadian team ready
- 11:52Speaker 5: and it was like, Shay gilligis Alexander could he just not?
- 11:57Speaker 2: Does he have a house in Toronto?
- 11:59Speaker 3: And he didn't make that right.
- 12:00Speaker 5: But the the France game was awesome, Yeah, and it
- 12:05Speaker 5: got awesome at the end, and I fully, excuse me,
- 12:10Speaker 5: Lebron should have been the MVP of the whole series.
- 12:11Speaker 5: I mean even the Serbia game, Lebron at triple double,
- 12:15Speaker 5: just killing me. Steph closed those games, dude, Like Lebron
- 12:22Speaker 5: was the MVP of the series. Lebron played point guard
- 12:25Speaker 5: or point forward. It was he had the keys to
- 12:28Speaker 5: that car the whole time, and purposefully you knew it
- 12:31Speaker 5: was Lebron series that the first part of the French game,
- 12:34Speaker 5: Steph missed like to like three three pointers and I
- 12:37Speaker 5: was like, oh god, because you just wanted Steph to shine.
- 12:41Speaker 5: This is going to be his only Olympics. And he
- 12:44Speaker 5: did against Serbia. He had a pretty rough go of
- 12:46Speaker 5: it early. Uh, and he definitely did against France. That
- 12:49Speaker 5: that four to three from his hip. Oh my even
- 12:52Speaker 5: my wife point, oh my god. Yeah, he was double
- 12:56Speaker 5: team like he threw it to Durant. Durant was double team.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Do it back to Steph, double teamed while Durant Lebron
- 13:02Speaker 5: were open. Again, Steph just said effort. And the rare
- 13:06Speaker 5: thing with that three was it could hit the rim.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Then went in a rattler. Dude, it was awesome.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Yeah, it was.
- 13:11Speaker 2: I don't think they covered, but I didn't. I don't
- 13:14Speaker 2: bet uh.
- 13:15Speaker 3: I think there there was air spread fifteen fourteen or fifteen, yeah,
- 13:18Speaker 3: something like that. They did not cover. I think the
- 13:20Speaker 3: eleven was what it ended at.
- 13:21Speaker 5: The basketball was awesome, Yeah, it was cool. I didn't
- 13:25Speaker 5: watch one second in women's basketball.
- 13:27Speaker 2: It is early.
- 13:28Speaker 5: If Caitlin Clark would have played. How to watch every game,
- 13:30Speaker 5: that's true. I don't watch every game. And they almost
- 13:31Speaker 5: lost at the end.
- 13:32Speaker 6: Did you see how Yeah? No, the buzzer beater that
- 13:34Speaker 6: didn't happen.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Nope.
- 13:36Speaker 6: So they played France too, and France. One of their
- 13:38Speaker 6: players had a buzzer beater that they hit but their toe,
- 13:41Speaker 6: their foot was over the line.
- 13:43Speaker 2: No, it wasn't.
- 13:43Speaker 6: It was pretty clear it wasn't Brooklyn. It wasn't that close.
- 13:46Speaker 6: But it was still on the line and they lost
- 13:48Speaker 6: by one that would have tied it to go no too.
- 13:53Speaker 5: Yeah, and our women, they're so far ahead of where
- 13:56Speaker 5: international women's basketball as it shouldn't have even been an issue. Yeah,
- 14:00Speaker 5: where men, You're starting to see a lot of the
- 14:02Speaker 5: NBA guys. It was fun to watch Jokich. They lost, obviously,
- 14:06Speaker 5: but they played in the bronze medal game and they
- 14:08Speaker 5: won it.
- 14:08Speaker 2: To watch how happy they were. He was happier with
- 14:11Speaker 2: his teammates that they won.
- 14:12Speaker 5: The bronze than he was when he won the title
- 14:14Speaker 5: with Denver.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Yeah, Like he was like top of the world. It
- 14:17Speaker 2: was awesome.
- 14:17Speaker 3: It's people.
- 14:18Speaker 2: I was so happy for him. Yeah, and then he
- 14:20Speaker 2: was at the horse race drinking a beer like with
- 14:21Speaker 2: a white beater shirt on.
- 14:23Speaker 3: I love it.
- 14:24Speaker 5: But yeah, that's what's up. The Olympics were awesome. Running
- 14:30Speaker 5: into Musk was super fun. We had some football to
- 14:32Speaker 5: talk about. We'll talk to Jed Fish coming up. Just
- 14:35Speaker 5: a few minutes.
- 14:36Speaker 2: But why don't we take a break, Mike good on
- 14:37Speaker 2: that break, we'll come right back, Eddied. You watch any
- 14:44Speaker 2: of your Cowboys?
- 14:46Speaker 3: Yeah, our first game, Yeah, we're own one. Yeah. Stet's
- 14:49Speaker 3: and Bennett Stet's and Bennett did play the whole game
- 14:51Speaker 3: and then and they had three PI too. We picked
- 14:55Speaker 3: him off three times, but he won.
- 14:57Speaker 5: You know, yeah, seas season it's going four, We're going like,
- 15:02Speaker 5: I know, do you what do you think is happening
- 15:04Speaker 5: with Zeke though?
- 15:05Speaker 3: Dude? Like with Zeke?
- 15:07Speaker 2: Yeah, like what's gonna have? What's what's his what's his
- 15:10Speaker 2: load going to be?
- 15:11Speaker 1: Like?
- 15:11Speaker 3: I think he's going to be the main load.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Is he going to be the guy? Is he getting
- 15:15Speaker 2: twenty five carries a game?
- 15:16Speaker 3: Yeah? I think he's going to be the main dude.
- 15:19Speaker 3: I mean, I don't think we have anyone as good
- 15:22Speaker 3: as Zeke. I think Royce Freeman he was good for
- 15:25Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 15:25Speaker 5: But I don't even think Zeke is thirty is what's crazy? Yeah,
- 15:28Speaker 5: I think he might be twenty nine years. Zeke's forty
- 15:31Speaker 5: five in my mind, and.
- 15:33Speaker 2: I could be wrong. I might be wrong. Twenty nine
- 15:36Speaker 2: that is crazy to me.
- 15:38Speaker 3: That's the lifespan of a running back, though, It's like
- 15:40Speaker 3: they they played three solid years and then they're kind
- 15:43Speaker 3: of like, oh do we keep them? Are they still good?
- 15:45Speaker 5: I don't know, I hear you, but it's always you know,
- 15:47Speaker 5: when they turn thirty, that's when the big down.
- 15:49Speaker 2: He's not even thirty yet. And my final thought of
- 15:53Speaker 2: Zeke is that when he's playing center, I know in
- 15:56Speaker 2: the playoffs.
- 15:57Speaker 3: That was the last time he played with the Cowboys.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Yeah, so what theys in the rams? It really was
- 16:01Speaker 2: nothing to see.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Nah No, a lot of like rookies, a lot of
- 16:05Speaker 3: you know, the third stringers, just to see what they
- 16:08Speaker 3: can do.
- 16:08Speaker 5: Other rookie preseason debuts. Caleb Williams is a Hall of Famer.
- 16:12Speaker 3: I'll say it, how do you do? I didn't see it?
- 16:15Speaker 5: Four seven ninety five yards thirteen yard run on twenty
- 16:18Speaker 5: snaps versus the Bills.
- 16:19Speaker 3: He looked really good.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Yeah, Caleb Williams has got a big butt.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Like that's what That's what you saw out of his performance.
- 16:26Speaker 2: I like a thick quarterback.
- 16:29Speaker 3: What's wrong with you?
- 16:30Speaker 2: Because Jaden Daniels does not have a thick butt.
- 16:33Speaker 5: It's like my pictures. If I'm gonna invest a bunch
- 16:35Speaker 5: of money in a pitcher. I want a thick butt, huh,
- 16:38Speaker 5: because they're gonna have that's where the powers coming from.
- 16:41Speaker 5: And these quarterbacks and Jaden Daniels runs, he's so thin.
- 16:47Speaker 2: He's okay.
- 16:48Speaker 5: Kevin durantztin but he didn't have to. He doesn't have
- 16:50Speaker 5: Bosa coming.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Out of him.
- 16:52Speaker 3: So you like Jalen Hurts, Yeah, big butt, Jalen Hurts strong,
- 16:55Speaker 3: Russell Wilson big butt.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Uh, Sure, but he had his time.
- 17:00Speaker 5: Hm.
- 17:01Speaker 3: I mean Kyler Murray's but yeah, Kyler.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Murray is thick.
- 17:05Speaker 5: Kyler Murray is small and everyone's like, oh, we were
- 17:08Speaker 5: Kyle Murray.
- 17:09Speaker 3: But he's thick, like for.
- 17:10Speaker 2: A little guy. Jayden Daniels went two for three, forty
- 17:13Speaker 2: five yards.
- 17:14Speaker 5: He threw a big one. He threw like a forty
- 17:15Speaker 5: two yard bomb versus the Jets. None of this stuff matters,
- 17:19Speaker 5: but it is kind of cool to see him for
- 17:20Speaker 5: the first time because Kayleb Williams did not play in
- 17:23Speaker 5: the Hall of Fame game.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Whenever they played that.
- 17:25Speaker 5: Game, Drake May two for three, nineteen yards, they just
- 17:28Speaker 5: he just played one series versus the Panthers. Michael Pennix
- 17:31Speaker 5: Junior nine for sixteen and one hundred and four yards.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Who looked Bennix looked pretty good.
- 17:36Speaker 6: Yeah, he was slinging it and.
- 17:37Speaker 5: No chance he overtakes Kirk Cousins unless Cousins gets hurt.
- 17:42Speaker 2: But he looks really good.
- 17:43Speaker 5: Yeah JJ McCarthy through a bad interception, but eleven for seventeen,
- 17:49Speaker 5: one hundred and eighty eight yards, two touchdowns, and then
- 17:52Speaker 5: bow Nick looked freaking awesome. But a lot of short
- 17:55Speaker 5: precisions stuff like make quick decisions, which is what he
- 17:58Speaker 5: did at Oregon.
- 17:58Speaker 2: It absolutely is, and it's probably what but.
- 18:02Speaker 5: That's what that offense does, even when Drew Brees ran
- 18:05Speaker 5: that offense, right, Yeah, like that's it.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Short precise occasionally.
- 18:13Speaker 5: I mean, Breeze wasn't known as having a cannon, No,
- 18:16Speaker 5: not at all. Yeah, Bone's look really good. But none
- 18:18Speaker 5: of this stuff matters.
- 18:19Speaker 6: What's crazy is Zach Wilson coming in third stream.
- 18:23Speaker 5: From what I've heard from my sources, and I don't
- 18:25Speaker 5: have a lot of sources, but like I have like
- 18:27Speaker 5: two sources period, and they're like, Zach Wilson's nothing, He's nothing.
- 18:33Speaker 3: Or something.
- 18:34Speaker 2: They're like, he's nothing and he's done, I know which
- 18:39Speaker 2: early on it was like is Zach Wilson even gonna start.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Is he going to be the starter?
- 18:43Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 18:44Speaker 2: So yeah, that's what's up.
- 18:45Speaker 3: How many preseason games do we have? Three? Three?
- 18:49Speaker 6: It used to be four, four, and then it's gonna
- 18:51Speaker 6: go to two.
- 18:52Speaker 3: What do you think about the kickoff? Are you watching?
- 18:54Speaker 3: It's pretty interesting? Huh?
- 18:56Speaker 5: It feels too clunky. Still I like it because I
- 19:00Speaker 5: think two things. I like Jonathan Taylor wearing the skull cap.
- 19:06Speaker 5: I like it like, let's do safe things. Yeah, make
- 19:10Speaker 5: sure our players hit thirty they're not full of CTE
- 19:12Speaker 5: and making bad life decisions later on because the brains
- 19:15Speaker 5: are all messed up.
- 19:16Speaker 3: Hard to see what team he's on though, with that thing.
- 19:17Speaker 3: But it's all right, I get it.
- 19:19Speaker 2: It's no, it's not.
- 19:20Speaker 5: It's even bigger. It's exactly like the helmet, just bigger, bigger.
- 19:26Speaker 5: It's like if you go to a carnival and they.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Draw a character of you. It's like that.
- 19:30Speaker 5: So I liked it, and I hope more players wear them.
- 19:33Speaker 5: Same thing with the kickoff. It still feels a bit clunky,
- 19:35Speaker 5: but I do understand that this is for the greater good.
- 19:39Speaker 5: It's to keep guys from running forty yards full speed.
- 19:41Speaker 5: Slamming into each other. Right, So whatever is going to
- 19:44Speaker 5: keep the sport.
- 19:46Speaker 2: It's like when quarterbacks don't get hit anymore. Yeah, do
- 19:49Speaker 2: you know why?
- 19:50Speaker 5: Because we need them in games because we've seen what happens.
- 19:53Speaker 5: We saw last year multiple times where it's the second
- 19:56Speaker 5: stringer here versus the third stringer.
- 19:57Speaker 2: The games are terrible.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Yeah, you're right about that.
- 20:00Speaker 2: And you guys are like, oh, I know, man up man,
- 20:02Speaker 2: take it like a man. All good, taking it like
- 20:04Speaker 2: a man.
- 20:05Speaker 5: But I'd rather not lose ten twelve, thirteen, fourteen million
- 20:08Speaker 5: dollars and revenue because people aren't coming to the game
- 20:12Speaker 5: because it's Jed Hoyer.
- 20:14Speaker 3: You know, that's not his person. It was his new employer, Brian.
- 20:19Speaker 5: Brian, I'm thinking of the Cubs. I'm thinking of the
- 20:23Speaker 5: Cubs general manager. So football is back. It's fun, it's awesome,
- 20:28Speaker 5: it's kind of back. Oh, it's back. It's back.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Baby. My son, My son had a good game. My yeah,
- 20:34Speaker 3: he has game. He almost had to pick. He's playing
- 20:36Speaker 3: with varsity, which is so cool. Well, he so what
- 20:38Speaker 3: they do at his age, he's fifth grade, but they
- 20:41Speaker 3: let him play with the sixth graders, and the sixth
- 20:43Speaker 3: graders is varsity. So for them, they have their little
- 20:46Speaker 3: JV team the game or whatever that they play with,
- 20:48Speaker 3: but sometimes they sprinkle in the fifth graders to play
- 20:50Speaker 3: on the sixth grade team. And he's played probably about
- 20:53Speaker 3: like six or seven snaps with him, which is fun
- 20:54Speaker 3: for you. Oh, it's so proud of him.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Yeah, do you worry every time or you just pumped
- 20:59Speaker 2: every time?
- 21:00Speaker 8: No?
- 21:00Speaker 3: I don't worry.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Is mom worried every time?
- 21:02Speaker 8: No? Oh?
- 21:03Speaker 5: Cool?
- 21:03Speaker 3: Now we're not worried because he's just he loves it
- 21:06Speaker 3: so much that like if he if he did get hurt,
- 21:10Speaker 3: which he has not get hurt knock on wood, but
- 21:12Speaker 3: if he has like any kind of injury, I think
- 21:14Speaker 3: he'll probably second guests like playing again. But he hasn't.
- 21:17Speaker 3: He's had really good protection. He's like he knows how
- 21:21Speaker 3: to hit right, and he plays defense really so he's
- 21:23Speaker 3: not the one getting hit as much. So I think
- 21:26Speaker 3: he's kind of got a good grip on it. But
- 21:27Speaker 3: if he does get hurt, I feel like he will say,
- 21:29Speaker 3: like maybe I'll not play anymore. So we're waiting for
- 21:31Speaker 3: that to happen.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Or you'll find out that he really really loves it.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm scared of that too. He might could be
- 21:37Speaker 3: out of one of those. He might.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Yeh, that's cool. Reade watching it footboard.
- 21:41Speaker 7: Uh No, I just saw some highlights. Like I saw
- 21:43Speaker 7: the thing with the cap on it, and I was like,
- 21:46Speaker 7: what in.
- 21:46Speaker 2: The world is that? Have you not seen them practice
- 21:49Speaker 2: with those on?
- 21:50Speaker 3: Uh?
- 21:51Speaker 2: It's weird looking when you first see it, But again
- 21:53Speaker 2: I don't. Did you see the Colts one specifically?
- 21:55Speaker 3: No, No, I guess it.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Look it's the helmet.
- 21:56Speaker 3: I'll just see the practice ones, so it doesn't look
- 21:58Speaker 3: all bubbly, and the logos on it literally looks like
- 22:02Speaker 3: but again, it's no more ridiculous.
- 22:04Speaker 2: And I say it ridiculous in a way of like
- 22:06Speaker 2: I understand why I did it.
- 22:08Speaker 5: Steve Tasker back in the day, who played special teams
- 22:10Speaker 5: in Buffalo, had some head issues, so we wore this
- 22:12Speaker 5: big protective helmet. It's like double layered and it's a
- 22:15Speaker 5: doesn't look any different than that, And if everybody wears them.
- 22:20Speaker 3: It's normal, then it's normal.
- 22:22Speaker 2: But I saw some people like it looks weird.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Man up, I'm like, you guys, stop saying that this
- 22:29Speaker 3: is dumb. Yeah, dumb, And.
- 22:32Speaker 2: How I wonder how much it really helps the patting.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm sure it helps a lot.
- 22:37Speaker 5: I'm sure it helps some, but I mean I wonder
- 22:38Speaker 5: how much it really helps because I never wore one.
- 22:41Speaker 3: I would have.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Although I didn't get hit hard enough, it didn't matter.
- 22:44Speaker 5: But like, maybe we'll go somewhere riot go head on,
- 22:50Speaker 5: you and me head on. But like rams, well, Eddie
- 22:53Speaker 5: and I did this at Kansas State. We got full
- 22:55Speaker 5: padded out in their stadium and he's like, just hit me,
- 22:57Speaker 5: hit me, hit me hard. And I'm like, I don't know, man,
- 23:00Speaker 5: it's all romantic and stuff on TV, but I don't
- 23:02Speaker 5: even like doing the hitting like that hurts.
- 23:04Speaker 3: It hurt a little bit.
- 23:05Speaker 2: And so I was like, all right, So we did
- 23:07Speaker 2: form tackle drills.
- 23:09Speaker 3: We're all right, though, We're all right.
- 23:12Speaker 2: We didn't get injured.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Yeah, we got hurt different in different sports, not football, baseball.
- 23:16Speaker 7: Late there for quite a while.
- 23:17Speaker 5: Though.
- 23:18Speaker 2: How was your foot?
- 23:19Speaker 3: Oh, dude, Like I jogged yesterday. I went for a
- 23:22Speaker 3: jog up some hills. Didn't hurt one bit. It's awesome.
- 23:24Speaker 3: We're back, baby, all right.
- 23:25Speaker 5: We are moments away from head coach Jetfish from University
- 23:29Speaker 5: of Washington. Now we're gonna get over to Washington head
- 23:36Speaker 5: football coach Jetfish. Coach Fish in his first year at
- 23:39Speaker 5: Washington after spending in the last three years at the
- 23:42Speaker 5: University of Arizona, where he helped turn that program around
- 23:45Speaker 5: big time. Coach Fish has spent time coaching under Bill Belichick,
- 23:48Speaker 5: Sean McVay, Mike Shanahan. He was college roommates with Eagles
- 23:52Speaker 5: GM Howie Roseman. Really excited to see what he can
- 23:55Speaker 5: do in his first year with Washington and he's in
- 23:57Speaker 5: the Big Ten. All that feels weird here he is,
- 24:00Speaker 5: coach Jetfish.
- 24:02Speaker 2: How's it going, coach? Thanks for being here.
- 24:03Speaker 4: It's going great.
- 24:04Speaker 3: How are you doing pretty good?
- 24:05Speaker 5: I mean with you with the season just like a
- 24:09Speaker 5: couple of weeks away. Are you like where you're just
- 24:11Speaker 5: itching to go to like we are or do you
- 24:14Speaker 5: just look forward to more time to prepare?
- 24:18Speaker 4: All right, year one, I'm looking for work time to prepare.
- 24:22Speaker 8: But usually I would say that I'm itching to go,
- 24:24Speaker 8: But right now, practice is what we need the most of.
- 24:28Speaker 5: Whenever you go into a new place, and again, congrats
- 24:31Speaker 5: on the success and getting that job, But how much
- 24:34Speaker 5: language are you actually changing and is it a slow
- 24:37Speaker 5: change or do you go on with a full the
- 24:39Speaker 5: playbook's new, and everyone has to learn all of your terminology.
- 24:42Speaker 4: Now, Yeah, everything is brand new. Every word.
- 24:47Speaker 8: Our offense is all our playbook that we had at Arizona,
- 24:51Speaker 8: most of it similar to what we did at the RAMS,
- 24:55Speaker 8: and then really probably before that even and then defense
- 25:00Speaker 8: it's all brand new. So these kids have had to
- 25:03Speaker 8: learn everything brand new. We haven't carried out for one thing.
- 25:06Speaker 5: Are there some kids who are light years ahead athletically
- 25:11Speaker 5: even just straight football wise, but can't quite get the
- 25:14Speaker 5: concepts and so you kind of have to handle all
- 25:17Speaker 5: personalities different at this point.
- 25:19Speaker 8: Oh yeah, I mean there's a couple of things, right,
- 25:21Speaker 8: we were able to We had a couple of guys
- 25:24Speaker 8: that came over from Arizona, so they kind of knew
- 25:26Speaker 8: a lot of the stuff that we wanted to get accomplished,
- 25:28Speaker 8: and they knew the verbiage. But for the most part,
- 25:32Speaker 8: you know, everybody's kind of new, and there's certain guys
- 25:36Speaker 8: that pick things up faster. There's certain guys that just
- 25:38Speaker 8: know things a little bit better, and you know, it's
- 25:42Speaker 8: kind of unique like that. The better athletes are also
- 25:44Speaker 8: usually the ones that are the quicker learners when it
- 25:47Speaker 8: comes to offensive defensive football. So it's been fun to
- 25:52Speaker 8: see how quickly some of these guys have figured it out.
- 25:55Speaker 8: I'd say this, it's a very smart team. This team
- 25:58Speaker 8: knows what they're doing. This team is even though they've
- 26:01Speaker 8: come from all different areas and backgrounds, they are they're
- 26:04Speaker 8: picking up the scheme really well. Now we just got
- 26:07Speaker 8: to figure out a way to execute it at the.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Level we want to do.
- 26:09Speaker 5: You think it's advantageous being a first year coach that
- 26:12Speaker 5: you have in helmet communication, like those two together are
- 26:15Speaker 5: going to help more because you're a first year coach
- 26:18Speaker 5: than maybe if it were a different time.
- 26:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I.
- 26:21Speaker 8: Think it's just advantageous to begin with. It's such, it's
- 26:26Speaker 8: it's an easier way to call a game. You know,
- 26:29Speaker 8: when I was when I was in Jacksonville eleven years ago,
- 26:33Speaker 8: we were calling the game through a coach to you know,
- 26:37Speaker 8: helmet communicator, and every ever since then, depending on where
- 26:42Speaker 8: we were at pro college, you always wish you had
- 26:45Speaker 8: it when you were in college football.
- 26:47Speaker 4: And to have it back is great.
- 26:50Speaker 8: And then I do think that there's some reminders and
- 26:52Speaker 8: tips that you can potentially give to the quarterback or
- 26:55Speaker 8: to the mike, linebacker or safety depending on who's wearing it,
- 27:00Speaker 8: that maybe just a little bit of a reminder if
- 27:02Speaker 8: they don't have the experience that other people have, because
- 27:06Speaker 8: this is year one in the offense, year one in
- 27:08Speaker 8: the defense, which is very different. Then let's call it
- 27:11Speaker 8: some other places where you're year three or you know,
- 27:14Speaker 8: if we were still back at the last place, it
- 27:16Speaker 8: would be year four in the same system.
- 27:18Speaker 5: Do you think with your experience in the NFL it
- 27:21Speaker 5: actually helps with nil in college football because now again
- 27:26Speaker 5: there's a financial hierarchy in college which there also was
- 27:29Speaker 5: in the league.
- 27:30Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, I've kind of said this that we've
- 27:33Speaker 8: gotten almost back to the old days where it was
- 27:38Speaker 8: everyone at eighty five scholarships and then you had to
- 27:41Speaker 8: figure out how you were going to get a player.
- 27:45Speaker 4: Other than because of the scholarship. Now everybody has money.
- 27:51Speaker 8: The last four years, it was depending on how much
- 27:53Speaker 8: money you had determined how good of a player you
- 27:55Speaker 8: could get. Now, with the revenue share going on next year,
- 28:00Speaker 8: I think the top twenty five programs are gonna be
- 28:03Speaker 8: able to spend pretty similar amount of money. So now
- 28:05Speaker 8: you're gonna have to figure out what's the next separator.
- 28:08Speaker 8: So we've kind of gotten ourselves back in this weird
- 28:10Speaker 8: world where you're going to be back to a facilities discussion,
- 28:14Speaker 8: You're going to be back to a kind of player
- 28:18Speaker 8: centric focus discussion. You're going to be back to coaches
- 28:21Speaker 8: and who's going to develop you the best because we're
- 28:24Speaker 8: all going to be sharing the same revenue here pretty soon,
- 28:27Speaker 8: at least the top, you know, thirty or forty teams
- 28:29Speaker 8: that can afford it.
- 28:30Speaker 4: So that's gonna make.
- 28:31Speaker 8: It awfully interesting, and hopefully the experience we had in
- 28:35Speaker 8: the NFL will give us somewhat of advantage there.
- 28:39Speaker 5: Whenever I was living in Texas and they were like, hey,
- 28:41Speaker 5: move your show to Nashville and you're gonna do this
- 28:44Speaker 5: national show. And so I've lived in an apartment for
- 28:46Speaker 5: like two months and then I found like I had
- 28:48Speaker 5: to like study the neighborhoods and like find a house.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Whenever you move, do you just they just tell you
- 28:53Speaker 2: in an apartment? And then you find do you rent?
- 28:56Speaker 2: Like what's the deal?
- 28:58Speaker 4: It depends? I don't know if you've seen my resume.
- 29:02Speaker 8: I've moved a bunch, So depending on where I depending
- 29:06Speaker 8: on the situation in life, is kind of determined. You know,
- 29:09Speaker 8: have we rented or have we bought. It's certainly based
- 29:13Speaker 8: on where we were going and what we were doing.
- 29:16Speaker 8: On this case here, I got hired January fifteenth and
- 29:22Speaker 8: was in an airbnb across the street from campus on
- 29:25Speaker 8: the street with all of our players, with not our players,
- 29:27Speaker 8: but a bunch of college students for about four months
- 29:31Speaker 8: while my wife and kids were finishing out in Tucson
- 29:35Speaker 8: and my kids were going to school. And then we
- 29:37Speaker 8: bought a house and moved into our house on June first,
- 29:41Speaker 8: and I told Amber that on June twenty first, we
- 29:44Speaker 8: were going to have one.
- 29:45Speaker 4: Hundred people over to the house for a recruiting weekend.
- 29:47Speaker 4: So pressure was on quick.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that would be tough to have to have. I
- 29:52Speaker 2: just know my wife.
- 29:53Speaker 5: I were like, hey, I have well ten people coming over,
- 29:55Speaker 5: it would not be met warm.
- 29:57Speaker 2: So are you totally moved in?
- 29:59Speaker 3: Everything good?
- 30:00Speaker 4: We're well, uh, you know, we are totally moved in.
- 30:04Speaker 8: But we started a project to to make our backyard
- 30:07Speaker 8: more player friendly. So we're putting a pick a ball
- 30:10Speaker 8: court back there, a sport court back there, and it's
- 30:13Speaker 8: a little miniature golf deal, and we're trying to make
- 30:16Speaker 8: it a place where my players want to come hang out,
- 30:20Speaker 8: and our recruits want to come hang out, and you know,
- 30:22Speaker 8: our goal is to open our house to our players
- 30:26Speaker 8: and become you know, their family and whether it's our
- 30:29Speaker 8: current roster, whether it's our recruits.
- 30:32Speaker 4: So we have a pretty significant.
- 30:34Speaker 8: Renovation going on back there, which is really putting me
- 30:37Speaker 8: in a great you know, a great place with my
- 30:41Speaker 8: wife right now.
- 30:41Speaker 5: Yeah, we just went to a pickleball renovation that itself
- 30:45Speaker 5: took four months to do and was just people all
- 30:47Speaker 5: it's just people. My why could be like there's people
- 30:49Speaker 5: here all the time because there was always something to
- 30:51Speaker 5: be done in the backyard.
- 30:53Speaker 8: Yeah, that's what I'm about. That started last Monday. So
- 30:57Speaker 8: things are going great at the house right now.
- 30:59Speaker 5: A lot of travel just in general, but now you've
- 31:01Speaker 5: got to travel all the way across the country. And
- 31:02Speaker 5: I was just looking at some of you guys' games
- 31:05Speaker 5: because again, it used to be the Pac twelve used
- 31:07Speaker 5: to be. I mean, you got to like hydrate like
- 31:11Speaker 5: super hydrate now because I fly south. If I fly
- 31:13Speaker 5: southwest over two hours, I got a headache when I
- 31:16Speaker 5: land because I didn't drink enough water. You guys are
- 31:18Speaker 5: flying all over all over the freaking country. Coach Uh,
- 31:22Speaker 5: how do you prepare your players on time zones? I mean,
- 31:24Speaker 5: is there a playbook yet to that?
- 31:27Speaker 8: Well, you know, we it's kind of very NFL like
- 31:31Speaker 8: in that regard because when you're playing. I mean I
- 31:35Speaker 8: coached in New England and we were flying across the
- 31:38Speaker 8: country to play in LA. In San Francisco, we played Arizona.
- 31:41Speaker 8: When we were coaching LA, we flew across the country
- 31:44Speaker 8: to play the Giants and Dolphins. So you kind of
- 31:46Speaker 8: steal that playbook. And I would say that playbook is
- 31:49Speaker 8: one in which you you know, you leave two days early.
- 31:54Speaker 4: You try to get I.
- 31:55Speaker 8: Guess those scientists call it what circadian rhythms. Right, You've
- 31:59Speaker 8: got to overhydrate before you get on the plane. You've
- 32:03Speaker 8: got to enforce, especially young kids eighteen to twenty two, like,
- 32:08Speaker 8: all right, every thirty minutes, we have to have a
- 32:10Speaker 8: bottle of water completed. We have to make sure that
- 32:14Speaker 8: when we get off the plane we get enough moving around.
- 32:17Speaker 8: I mean we're flying to Rutgers from Seattle. That's five
- 32:21Speaker 8: hours and whatever. It's like an eight hour and fifteen
- 32:24Speaker 8: minute you know day, let's call it. With the three
- 32:27Speaker 8: hour time frame. In the five hour flight, we're flying
- 32:29Speaker 8: to state college. We're flying at Iowa City, we're flying
- 32:34Speaker 8: to Indianapolis. I mean, all these flights are four or
- 32:37Speaker 8: five hours long, if not even a little bit more
- 32:41Speaker 8: going to state college. So we've got to come up
- 32:43Speaker 8: with a plan. We think we have a decent plan.
- 32:46Speaker 8: I don't know, we haven't played the game yet. But
- 32:50Speaker 8: you know, it also depends what time you kick off. Like,
- 32:52Speaker 8: if we kicked off at twelve o'clock, that's nine am
- 32:55Speaker 8: our time. I don't know how much football we've played
- 32:58Speaker 8: at nine am other than training. If we kick off
- 33:01Speaker 8: at seven thirty at night in Seattle, that's ten thirty
- 33:05Speaker 8: at night for some of these East Coast teams. So
- 33:08Speaker 8: I think, really, we're gonna have to figure all that
- 33:10Speaker 8: out as we go, but we're gonna do everything we
- 33:13Speaker 8: can to keep these kids hydrated up and not let
- 33:17Speaker 8: the circumstances define how we play the game.
- 33:21Speaker 5: See I need to write that and overhydrate before and
- 33:24Speaker 5: then a bottle of water every thirty minutes because I
- 33:26Speaker 5: get off a plane on like my head hurts and
- 33:28Speaker 5: my wife's like, you idiot, this happens every time you fly.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Why do you not drink more water? Coach whenever you're in.
- 33:34Speaker 5: The NFL and you have the resume that you do
- 33:36Speaker 5: and you've been around so many NFL players, can you
- 33:38Speaker 5: pretty much spot collegiately physically who can make it in
- 33:42Speaker 5: the league.
- 33:44Speaker 4: Yeah, I think you can.
- 33:46Speaker 8: It's you know, it's one of those challenging things, right,
- 33:49Speaker 8: Like you can stand in front of your college football
- 33:51Speaker 8: team and you could say who's playing on sun who
- 33:54Speaker 8: has the dream to play on Sunday?
- 33:56Speaker 4: And every person in the room.
- 33:58Speaker 8: Is going to stand up, And then you can kind
- 34:01Speaker 8: of say, like, all right, who has a realistic who
- 34:06Speaker 8: realistically believes they're going to play on Sunday? And they
- 34:09Speaker 8: all keep standing. So, you know, you don't want to
- 34:12Speaker 8: ruin anyone's dream. You don't want to, you know, kind
- 34:15Speaker 8: of tell them a you know, this is probably gonna
- 34:17Speaker 8: be a four year run for you, but you do
- 34:20Speaker 8: have an idea of what it takes. You kind of
- 34:22Speaker 8: know what their bodies look like in the league, you
- 34:25Speaker 8: know what their work ethic looks like. It's very hard
- 34:28Speaker 8: to just change that over a course of time. So
- 34:32Speaker 8: we spend a lot of time talking about what what
- 34:35Speaker 8: these guys look like like. I show them all the
- 34:36Speaker 8: time pictures of NFL players and I you know, hey,
- 34:39Speaker 8: this is what a safety in the league looks like.
- 34:41Speaker 4: Do you look like this? You look like this when
- 34:43Speaker 4: you're working out? Do you look like this when you're running?
- 34:45Speaker 4: Do you look like this in the weight room?
- 34:48Speaker 5: Is this you?
- 34:48Speaker 4: Or is this what you want to be?
- 34:50Speaker 8: And if it's not you, are you willing to commit
- 34:53Speaker 8: to trying to get your body to look like that.
- 34:56Speaker 8: We do that with every position group constantly, and it's
- 35:00Speaker 8: it's not trying to make people not feel good about themselves,
- 35:03Speaker 8: but more it's about trying to get these kids to understand, like,
- 35:07Speaker 8: let's have a realistic goal and let's embrace college football.
- 35:10Speaker 8: I don't think there's a better sport in America than
- 35:13Speaker 8: college football. But if all you're doing is you're just
- 35:16Speaker 8: waiting for the next opportunity and you're not appreciating the moment,
- 35:20Speaker 8: then you're missing out on such great opportunity here. So
- 35:24Speaker 8: we try to encourage them to say, like, hey, yeah,
- 35:27Speaker 8: you might end up being an NFL player, and we're
- 35:29Speaker 8: going to try to do everything we can to help
- 35:30Speaker 8: you there. But like, let's love the fact that you know,
- 35:35Speaker 8: there's seventy five thousand people watching eleven people play, and
- 35:39Speaker 8: if it was easy, there'd be eleven people watching seventy
- 35:42Speaker 8: five thousand people play.
- 35:44Speaker 3: Thing.
- 35:44Speaker 5: I should look at more ripped up dudes. Then that's
- 35:47Speaker 5: why I need to just see pictures of things I
- 35:49Speaker 5: need to be a coachuration.
- 35:51Speaker 4: Yes, it hasn't worked for me, by the way, I'm
- 35:54Speaker 4: just saying for the players, it could work.
- 35:56Speaker 5: With your story about how you came up and coaching,
- 35:58Speaker 5: and you know, you were someone who knew you wanted
- 36:02Speaker 5: to be around great leaders so you could learn leadership.
- 36:05Speaker 5: I'm inserting words. You know when I read your stories
- 36:07Speaker 5: about you and Spurrier and the coaches that you worked under.
- 36:11Speaker 5: Do you look for that with people that want to
- 36:13Speaker 5: work for you now where maybe they don't have quite
- 36:17Speaker 5: the resume, but that you see something in them that
- 36:20Speaker 5: is extra special.
- 36:22Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, I think that for us, we want
- 36:26Speaker 8: to have people that are that aspire to succeed and
- 36:30Speaker 8: grow in the profession. I love people that have been
- 36:34Speaker 8: around great players, great coaches, great players that are inspired
- 36:38Speaker 8: to do certain things. I mean, we have Pete carroll
- 36:42Speaker 8: son on our staff, Bill Belichick's son on our staff,
- 36:44Speaker 8: or two coordinators. We have John Lynch's son on our
- 36:48Speaker 8: staff as our defensive graduate assistant, with Jack de Rio's
- 36:51Speaker 8: son on our staff as our offensive quality control coach
- 36:54Speaker 8: assistant running back coach. I do that because those guys
- 36:59Speaker 8: know it took their dads. They were moving around as kids,
- 37:04Speaker 8: they were a part of all different staffs. They heard
- 37:08Speaker 8: the stories from their dads when they got home from work,
- 37:12Speaker 8: so they know, you know what that felt like and
- 37:15Speaker 8: looked like. They know what when their dads were talking
- 37:17Speaker 8: about good coaches or bad coaches and what that meant.
- 37:20Speaker 8: And then we've got some other coaches on our staff
- 37:21Speaker 8: that either played in the league or aspired to play
- 37:24Speaker 8: in the league, and I want those guys to really
- 37:27Speaker 8: be around that group and be able to not just
- 37:30Speaker 8: be around Brennan and Steve, but also be around Pete
- 37:34Speaker 8: and Bill. And we invite those guys to our building.
- 37:38Speaker 8: Coach Belichick's been here all week. Coach del Rio is
- 37:41Speaker 8: coming tomorrow. I think he'll be here for a week.
- 37:43Speaker 8: Coach Carrol's been around practice a bunch. Because I want
- 37:46Speaker 8: our assistant coaches to be able to grab those guys
- 37:48Speaker 8: and be like, Hey, what do you think about this
- 37:50Speaker 8: or what do you think we should do here?
- 37:52Speaker 4: How do I grow in this profession.
- 37:54Speaker 8: But in the end, you know, I think you just
- 37:56Speaker 8: got to work, you know, every day, like somebody's working
- 37:59Speaker 8: twenty four hours day to take your job.
- 38:01Speaker 5: I feel like Coach Belichick has shown me a new
- 38:03Speaker 5: side of him where he's actually pretty funny. I've been
- 38:05Speaker 5: watching on TV a lot where you know, you get
- 38:08Speaker 5: the presser he would say nothing, and that was just
- 38:10Speaker 5: the expectation.
- 38:11Speaker 2: But like, if you're having dinner with him, is he
- 38:13Speaker 2: just like cuttingly funny at times?
- 38:16Speaker 8: Yeah, he's got a great he's got a great personality,
- 38:19Speaker 8: And yeah, I think that the way he's handled the
- 38:22Speaker 8: media over the years is probably based on thirty something
- 38:27Speaker 8: years of how it went right, Like I don't know
- 38:29Speaker 8: what it was like in nineteen ninety four in the media, right,
- 38:33Speaker 8: and I think all these years have gone on that
- 38:35Speaker 8: he created a persona and he also created a messaging
- 38:40Speaker 8: that he wanted to give, which really was what we
- 38:43Speaker 8: do in houses in house, and it's really not that
- 38:46Speaker 8: important for the others to know what we're doing in house.
- 38:49Speaker 4: That was maybe the way he handled it.
- 38:52Speaker 8: But when you're with them privately, or when you're with
- 38:54Speaker 8: him in a different type of setting, we really enjoy him.
- 38:59Speaker 8: My wife and I've spent many of times out for
- 39:02Speaker 8: dinner and vacation, and you certainly learned so much about
- 39:06Speaker 8: the guy. And he's brilliant. He's brilliant outside of football.
- 39:11Speaker 8: He's so well read and well versed. But he's also
- 39:13Speaker 8: funny and really a good dude to just hang out with.
- 39:16Speaker 5: Is it crazy to you that you'll just be hanging
- 39:19Speaker 5: out with these dudes? At one point you looked at
- 39:20Speaker 5: as like mentor, Like you just mentioned like three or
- 39:22Speaker 5: four guys, and it's like they could be at your house.
- 39:25Speaker 5: You had Pete, Carroll Belichick, and you're like, man, they
- 39:28Speaker 5: also think I'm cool? Now, Like, isn't that like freaking awesome?
- 39:31Speaker 4: Well, it's cool. I mean, let me just say this.
- 39:33Speaker 8: I've never called any of them by their first name,
- 39:36Speaker 8: so there's still my mentors.
- 39:39Speaker 4: I have a really hard time not calling them coach.
- 39:41Speaker 8: And when you're around Coach Carroll or Coach Belichick, like,
- 39:47Speaker 8: you know, I don't think I just look at them,
- 39:51Speaker 8: you know in a way that I just I see
- 39:53Speaker 8: them as somebody that I've looked up to my whole career,
- 39:56Speaker 8: and now to be around him is pretty cool.
- 39:58Speaker 4: It's pretty awesome. It's cool to be running the practice.
- 40:02Speaker 8: But I've always said, like, when those guys are a
- 40:05Speaker 8: practice man, I'm the assistant head coach. I still look
- 40:08Speaker 8: at those guys as the head coach, whether they're just
- 40:10Speaker 8: sitting in the stands or watching the game, or whether
- 40:13Speaker 8: they're standing on the practice field talking to me or
- 40:15Speaker 8: one of our coaches. In the end, those guys are
- 40:19Speaker 8: revered and they've done some things in football that we
- 40:22Speaker 8: all just aspire to do.
- 40:24Speaker 5: Is it bad form to show up to Coach Belichick
- 40:26Speaker 5: and say will you signed this football?
- 40:27Speaker 3: Coach?
- 40:27Speaker 2: Like, would that be weird to just have them autograph stuff?
- 40:30Speaker 4: Or you get hey, can we take a quick selfie?
- 40:32Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 40:33Speaker 2: Like I feel like I would want to do that
- 40:34Speaker 2: all the time.
- 40:37Speaker 5: I would want all the coaches that came in, like
- 40:41Speaker 5: they're helping right now.
- 40:41Speaker 2: I would want them all to sign a ball.
- 40:43Speaker 5: But I so my move is, Coach, if there's somebody
- 40:46Speaker 5: that I'm with and I'm like a massive fan of
- 40:48Speaker 5: I'll have somebody come up and be.
- 40:49Speaker 2: Like, oh, you too should get a picture together.
- 40:51Speaker 5: That way, I didn't ask, so you could have someone
- 40:54Speaker 5: on your staff be like, hey, we're presenting coach Fish
- 40:57Speaker 5: with his ball, all the assistants that came in. It's
- 40:59Speaker 5: like Coach Carrol, Coach Belichick all on one ball, but
- 41:02Speaker 5: secretly you wanted it.
- 41:03Speaker 2: And you can have that tip for free.
- 41:04Speaker 4: Coach that's a good tip. I like that idea.
- 41:06Speaker 2: And then you don't have to ask.
- 41:07Speaker 4: You must get it all the time. People are always
- 41:09Speaker 4: trying to take pictures with you.
- 41:11Speaker 5: It happens a little bit, but sometimes also people are
- 41:14Speaker 5: like confused as to why other people are taking pictures
- 41:17Speaker 5: with me. So like someone will take a picture and
- 41:19Speaker 5: then someone else will walk up and be like, hey,
- 41:22Speaker 5: who are you? And then then when you have to
- 41:24Speaker 5: explain nobody, it's like they don't care because I'm not
- 41:27Speaker 5: famous to them.
- 41:28Speaker 4: You know, no question.
- 41:29Speaker 5: Can you go to the grocery store without people being like,
- 41:31Speaker 5: Coach Fish, you're our savior?
- 41:34Speaker 3: Uh yeah, oh yeah.
- 41:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 41:38Speaker 8: Every now and then we'll get a how we doing
- 41:40Speaker 8: coach go dogs. But there's a lot of things happening
- 41:43Speaker 8: in Seattle. So they are Husky fans though through and through,
- 41:47Speaker 8: and we have a great fan base.
- 41:49Speaker 4: We have a group.
- 41:50Speaker 8: You know, I would say that the fans here are
- 41:53Speaker 8: just they They've showed out to everything we've asked them
- 41:56Speaker 8: to do. We know we're going to sell out our games.
- 41:58Speaker 8: We know that sale gating on the water is going
- 42:01Speaker 8: to be incredible. You know, I've heard that you've made
- 42:03Speaker 8: it out to the West Coast a couple of times,
- 42:05Speaker 8: and you know, I was kind of thinking, you can
- 42:07Speaker 8: check out Seattle and be on the water and we'd
- 42:09Speaker 8: get on a boat and do this thing.
- 42:10Speaker 4: But maybe next year we can get you out here
- 42:13Speaker 4: and you could see.
- 42:13Speaker 2: It well, Coach, full transparency, all that is true. But
- 42:18Speaker 2: I didn't.
- 42:18Speaker 5: We did not come. We did not get invited in time.
- 42:20Speaker 5: We went out to another school, which we won't mention.
- 42:22Speaker 5: Not important, not important, not important at all, not into
- 42:25Speaker 5: a couple other schools. We went to your old school
- 42:28Speaker 5: as well, and they still speak of you extremely lovingly.
- 42:33Speaker 2: They're not even that mad at.
- 42:34Speaker 4: You, really, I promise you.
- 42:38Speaker 5: I'm telling we spent a lot of time there. Even
- 42:42Speaker 5: ex players do not speak ill of Coach Fish. I'm
- 42:46Speaker 5: telling I would just not say anything at all.
- 42:48Speaker 2: But you are still wait to hear wall.
- 42:51Speaker 8: I love those kids, and the head coach that got
- 42:54Speaker 8: Coach Brennan is a great a great coach and a
- 42:56Speaker 8: good friend.
- 42:57Speaker 4: So I'm excited for them. I'm excited route them on.
- 43:00Speaker 8: But obviously the players over there that we that we
- 43:03Speaker 8: recruited and we brought in there, I can't wait to
- 43:07Speaker 8: watch them succeed. They are fantastic kids and really a
- 43:11Speaker 8: special match out there in.
- 43:12Speaker 5: Tucson Final three questions. But I'll say this, We're next season,
- 43:17Speaker 5: We're coming out.
- 43:18Speaker 2: I love it a plus. We're gonna come. Okay, Eddie,
- 43:20Speaker 2: you go.
- 43:20Speaker 3: Ahead, Yeah, coach. I have four boys and they all
- 43:23Speaker 3: play sports, and I tell them, you know your your
- 43:26Speaker 3: body language is important. You know you have bad body language.
- 43:29Speaker 3: The coach is not going to think you're serious and
- 43:31Speaker 3: look like you're listening. Is that important to you?
- 43:33Speaker 5: Is?
- 43:33Speaker 3: But body language, bad body language, all that is that
- 43:36Speaker 3: important to you as a coach.
- 43:37Speaker 8: Fantastic coaching, Tim. I would absolutely tell my kids. I'd
- 43:41Speaker 8: tell my own kids that body languages, Oh, I would
- 43:45Speaker 8: say the most important thing when you're talking to a player,
- 43:48Speaker 8: how they respond. You could feel it, you could see
- 43:51Speaker 8: it if they get disappointed at their shoulders shot and
- 43:54Speaker 8: like walk confidently like I do. Just tell them you
- 43:56Speaker 8: want to walk on the field, and you want to
- 43:58Speaker 8: tip the field. You want it to look like this
- 44:00Speaker 8: when you're walking downhill all the time. So body language
- 44:03Speaker 8: is critical, great parenting right there.
- 44:05Speaker 3: Thank you coach.
- 44:07Speaker 5: As a coach, do you still get nervous.
- 44:12Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I get nervous or that about game day?
- 44:17Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, I'm like for a game, I mean I
- 44:20Speaker 5: don't know about I don't know what else you're up to,
- 44:21Speaker 5: but for games like that's what I'm talking about.
- 44:23Speaker 8: Yeah, I get nervous about it. We're gonna have nothing,
- 44:25Speaker 8: I own money. I get nervous about a lot of things.
- 44:27Speaker 8: But without a question on game there there's nothing more.
- 44:30Speaker 8: There's nothing more exhilarating. But yeah, I mean I have
- 44:34Speaker 8: this like I still have to call the offensive plays
- 44:38Speaker 8: and I always go and through this panic attack.
- 44:40Speaker 4: Like what if I just like freeze, I can't think
- 44:42Speaker 4: of a play. So yeah, we work.
- 44:45Speaker 8: I work very hard and we work as a staff
- 44:47Speaker 8: very hard to be as prepared as you could possibly be.
- 44:51Speaker 8: But yeah, I mean like, I mean, yeah, I get nervous,
- 44:56Speaker 8: and I try to do the best I can to
- 44:58Speaker 8: alleviate the nerve, the anxiet for our players.
- 45:01Speaker 4: But I try to I do take it on myself.
- 45:03Speaker 5: This isn't the final question, but something you just said
- 45:04Speaker 5: about NI own money, So I have a friend who's
- 45:07Speaker 5: a head football coach somewhere. I won't implement him into this,
- 45:11Speaker 5: but he says he spent more time on the phone
- 45:14Speaker 5: ever just he's just talking to people about money, like
- 45:16Speaker 5: he more than he ever thought he would. He is
- 45:18Speaker 5: a head coach of a major program, and he's like,
- 45:20Speaker 5: it's what I do. I dedicate a lot of time
- 45:23Speaker 5: to it. Very similarly, I was asked about running for
- 45:27Speaker 5: the governor of Arkansas where I'm from, back in the day,
- 45:30Speaker 5: and they were like, you're on the phone all the
- 45:31Speaker 5: time begging for money.
- 45:32Speaker 2: That's really what it is.
- 45:34Speaker 5: It feels like, at least until there are some changes,
- 45:37Speaker 5: that it's a lot of politiic and for cash right
- 45:40Speaker 5: now to keep up.
- 45:40Speaker 2: Would you say that's accurate, Yeah, And.
- 45:43Speaker 8: I'd also say I mean it's kind of frustrating in
- 45:46Speaker 8: a manner that I could imagine for others that you
- 45:49Speaker 8: feel like every conversation you have it's always you're talking
- 45:53Speaker 8: to people, you're trying to get him to build a
- 45:55Speaker 8: relationship with you just moved to a new community, and
- 45:58Speaker 8: then traditionally always stews off and saying, now, if you
- 46:02Speaker 8: can help our program, we would really appreciate it, or
- 46:05Speaker 8: you know, any hell will make a huge difference in
- 46:08Speaker 8: the success of our program.
- 46:10Speaker 4: But it's every day. It's every day, it's all day.
- 46:12Speaker 8: It's every opportunity to send an email, to send a note,
- 46:16Speaker 8: to get.
- 46:17Speaker 5: On the phone.
- 46:18Speaker 4: Every break that I have is really dedicated to fundraising.
- 46:24Speaker 8: And it's fundraising for NIL, it's fundraising for our facility,
- 46:26Speaker 8: it's fundraising for our program. I think that's just the
- 46:30Speaker 8: nature of being a college football head coach right now,
- 46:33Speaker 8: and hopefully at some point it'll maybe recalibrate, But right now, yeah,
- 46:39Speaker 8: I would agree with your friend who's a coach that
- 46:42Speaker 8: a lot of our time is spent.
- 46:44Speaker 4: You on a fundraise.
- 46:45Speaker 5: All right, final question, your mount rushmore of your favorite
- 46:47Speaker 5: musical artists of all time?
- 46:48Speaker 2: I need all four of them all time.
- 46:50Speaker 4: Coach Darth Brooks, Billy Joel bon Jovi. I'm from New Jersey.
- 47:00Speaker 4: Account I would say Kenny Chesson.
- 47:03Speaker 2: Wow, from New Jersey with two country country guys, my
- 47:07Speaker 2: wife from Texas.
- 47:09Speaker 3: Oh there you go.
- 47:09Speaker 5: Yeah, well then that makes sense. Hey, coach, we really
- 47:13Speaker 5: appreciate the time, and we're rooting for you guys, and
- 47:16Speaker 5: we're we're on a boat. Not only are we coming
- 47:18Speaker 5: next year. You promised a boat. We don't care what
- 47:20Speaker 5: body of water it is, but we're going to be
- 47:22Speaker 5: on a boat and we're gonna come up and spend
- 47:24Speaker 5: some time there.
- 47:25Speaker 2: Thank you for the time. We really appreciate it.

- 47:39Speaker 5: you later on. I don't know what day we're gonna
- 47:40Speaker 5: do another one, probably Friday or so. We have a
- 47:45Speaker 5: ton of scheduled interviews this weekend.
