- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back.
- 0:13Speaker 2: What's going on? Everybody? It's Jeff Mosher and Adam Kaplan.
- 0:16Speaker 1: We interrupt this schedule analysis podcast series to bring you
- 0:21Speaker 1: hard news from the Eagles. They had their coordinators press
- 0:24Speaker 1: conferences on Thursday, and there were some interesting things to
- 0:27Speaker 1: come out of it, mostly Adam from Vic Fangioside, almost
- 0:31Speaker 1: all of it from thee But as what we always say,
- 0:35Speaker 1: like the honesty of this guy to come out and
- 0:39Speaker 1: and he sort of says it as if we as
- 0:41Speaker 1: if it was common knowledge too. We'll get into the
- 0:43Speaker 1: whole safety situation. I'm like, no, we're gonna do this.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Oh oh thanks. We're all like, oh, okay, great, finally, yeah, finally,
- 0:50Speaker 1: But really it starts off with quelling a concern. Not
- 0:53Speaker 1: only I don't know what surprised you more that he
- 0:55Speaker 1: said that he's he was not really that close to retiring,
- 1:00Speaker 1: or that he's actually got at least two more years
- 1:03Speaker 1: in them.
- 1:04Speaker 3: I love that he said the doctors told him he's
- 1:06Speaker 3: got reverse agent going on.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Yeah he's Benjamin Button.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I was taking notes and then then
- 1:11Speaker 3: the Eagles sent them trench script out, but yeah, he
- 1:16Speaker 3: I guess he said he wasn't close. You know, he's
- 1:17Speaker 3: told that. The way I understand it from from some
- 1:21Speaker 3: masion to have some players defuncive players is that you know,
- 1:26Speaker 3: he's let the players know over the years when he's
- 1:28Speaker 3: been thinking about it. I guess after twenty.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Four he was he said twenty four Yeah.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, he but he said he was not close.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Like these football wonks as they call them, they really
- 1:40Speaker 3: don't have anything like he but he had to take
- 1:43Speaker 3: a shot the Phillies at the end.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Yeah, he only only Vic Fangio could not like the
- 1:49Speaker 1: Rob Thompson firing, even though the Phillies of one exact
- 1:52Speaker 1: one series since So, I was just about.
- 1:55Speaker 3: To, you know, to to end the video and I
- 1:57Speaker 3: see him walking off and I know I didn't close
- 2:01Speaker 3: the browser yet, and he just brought it up. I
- 2:03Speaker 3: was like, why did they do that? But he's so funny.
- 2:06Speaker 3: But getting back to football, yeah, so yeah, he's he
- 2:12Speaker 3: loves football. He feels great. He said at least two
- 2:14Speaker 3: more years. Okay, wow wow how about that? And he
- 2:20Speaker 3: you know he uh the so so as we went
- 2:24Speaker 3: along as he was speaking, you know that the reporters
- 2:27Speaker 3: asked him about certain situations and you know you and
- 2:30Speaker 3: I have talked. We actually talked about earlier this week.
- 2:32Speaker 3: I talked about with our patron members. One of the
- 2:35Speaker 3: few things we'll be looking at at OTS next week
- 2:36Speaker 3: is de she ain't gonna line up in safety because
- 2:39Speaker 3: we know that there are certain people in the league
- 2:42Speaker 3: mm hmm who think Vic sees him as a safety. Right, Well,
- 2:46Speaker 3: guess what he's gonna be playing safety and basin And
- 2:49Speaker 3: this is what you and I debated. You and I
- 2:51Speaker 3: had a healthy discussion, very respectful but healthy about who's
- 2:54Speaker 3: going to play uh in base, who's going to play corner? Well,
- 2:59Speaker 3: won't be just anymore? They didn't follow up, won't be
- 3:03Speaker 3: one you would assume me who else is going to be? Right?
- 3:06Speaker 2: Well, that's what I thought was also revealing from Vic.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Right, he was asked about Rik Wollan, and let's compare
- 3:14Speaker 1: Vic's contextual quotes from one player to another.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Wollan.
- 3:20Speaker 1: They actually said that they studied him during the season
- 3:23Speaker 1: because they knew Seattle had him on the trading block
- 3:25Speaker 1: and something.
- 3:26Speaker 2: You had reported.
- 3:26Speaker 1: You knew about that, We've talked about that, so good,
- 3:29Speaker 1: good job that. So they were they've already were thinking
- 3:32Speaker 1: about him. So he watched tape on him, and then
- 3:34Speaker 1: he said when the season was over, they watched him
- 3:36Speaker 1: a little bit more. How about contrasting that with the
- 3:39Speaker 1: questions about a Dori Jackson over a training camp, when
- 3:42Speaker 1: Vic was like, oh, I didn't even.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Watch tape on this guy. Everybody you had to know.
- 3:47Speaker 3: But I this is what I I've just I don't
- 3:50Speaker 3: know Fangio, but I know people know him and we've
- 3:53Speaker 3: gotten to know him justly through his interviews as press
- 3:55Speaker 3: conference is watching him run practices. He doesn't say what
- 3:59Speaker 3: he doesn't mean, like if he means it, if he
- 4:02Speaker 3: says that he means it is what I'm saying here.
- 4:05Speaker 3: So he was very strong on woll and I I'm
- 4:10Speaker 3: now he did also throw in that terrible play in
- 4:13Speaker 3: the playoffs.
- 4:14Speaker 2: He was asked about it though, I mean he was.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Yeah, and he goes, if you don't learn from that,
- 4:19Speaker 3: you'll never learn kind of thing. So he was effusive,
- 4:22Speaker 3: like he was very strong in his praise. I was like, okay,
- 4:26Speaker 3: because now.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I was also surprised.
- 4:30Speaker 3: I was, but see when you do when coaches do
- 4:33Speaker 3: freeze and study a they're given clip, they're given like
- 4:38Speaker 3: they're usually either given tape to watch or the watch
- 4:40Speaker 3: last year on their own. Well, we have to understand.
- 4:43Speaker 3: First year he was great, well and he was phenomenal, like,
- 4:46Speaker 3: oh boy, they got their next Richard Sherman. Well he
- 4:49Speaker 3: regressed and Vic's wright. I still don't know why the
- 4:54Speaker 3: Seahawks didn't trade him. I don't know what I don't
- 4:56Speaker 3: I don't recall what they were asking for. But he
- 4:59Speaker 3: was very availed and they're very willing to trade him.
- 5:02Speaker 3: That's where VIC comes in. He said he gave it,
- 5:04Speaker 3: he gave out, he spilled the beans. How he obviously
- 5:07Speaker 3: told him he was available. We're looking at him. Yeah,
- 5:09Speaker 3: he said they didn't trade for him, and now they
- 5:11Speaker 3: signed him. And how this is why I think this
- 5:14Speaker 3: is no bs. Not that we would ever question hit Vic,
- 5:17Speaker 3: but he said he was kind of surprising. You ton'
- 5:19Speaker 3: get a multi year deal. That's how much he liked him. Well, well,
- 5:24Speaker 3: this is how I struggle with it. What did he like?
- 5:27Speaker 3: And John Schneider, the GM that that drafted him, try
- 5:30Speaker 3: to trade him, didn't.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Like or the rest of the league. I agree, I
- 5:33Speaker 2: don't know. I was a little surprised for what you
- 5:35Speaker 2: just said.
- 5:35Speaker 1: The fact that Vic keeps it one hundred doesn't overdo
- 5:39Speaker 1: it when you're good, doesn't you know, get too high
- 5:41Speaker 1: on you. The fact that he made clear exit like
- 5:44Speaker 1: references to how his body frame and his body type
- 5:48Speaker 1: are all really are very uncommon, which is true.
- 5:50Speaker 2: You don't see a lot of six four corners.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Even Vic said, you don't see a lot of six
- 5:53Speaker 1: three sixty two sixty one corners. And he says none
- 5:56Speaker 1: of those things seemed to inhibit him in any way.
- 5:59Speaker 1: And you know, just watching the tape on prequel, and
- 6:01Speaker 1: I did think that there were times where he did
- 6:04Speaker 1: struggle on certain routes just because he's such a long
- 6:08Speaker 1: limbed athlete in terms of getting a break on the
- 6:11Speaker 1: ball or staying with a guy. Now, there are times
- 6:13Speaker 1: that you could tell his length helps it closes windows.
- 6:16Speaker 1: He can bat he's good and contested catches. But as
- 6:20Speaker 1: we mentioned in the breakdown, both talking to personnel people
- 6:23Speaker 1: and coaches about him and then watching it for ourselves
- 6:25Speaker 1: and Cosell, he would get beat on deep balls kind
- 6:28Speaker 1: of uncharacteristically for a guy that has that kind of speed.
- 6:32Speaker 1: So I was a little surprised that victims and handy,
- 6:34Speaker 1: because usually VI does mix that in.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Yeah, right, didn't You didn't you have the didn't you
- 6:39Speaker 3: have the stat that he led them.
- 6:40Speaker 1: To the Yeah, led the Sea, led the NFL, definitely
- 6:43Speaker 1: led the Seahawks in penalties.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Yeah, that's concerning. But I thought that was interesting. He
- 6:50Speaker 3: he He talked about the Nolan Smith issue. For folks
- 6:53Speaker 3: don't know, he got caught speeding pretty significantly.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I don't know how people could. I mean, I'm like
- 7:01Speaker 1: not to make two big vial deal. But but if
- 7:02Speaker 1: I'm on a if I'm doing like anything over ninety,
- 7:05Speaker 1: I get a little jittery. Yes, I cannot imagine driving
- 7:09Speaker 1: one hundred and thirty miles per hour on the autumn,
- 7:12Speaker 1: let alone a sixty.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Yeah, you want to you want to hear something very funny.
- 7:15Speaker 3: So I got a hit. When I was grown up,
- 7:17Speaker 3: I got my dad's handy. I got a hand me
- 7:19Speaker 3: down eight. For those of you old enough to remember,
- 7:21Speaker 3: we call this car fenway. My friends from high school
- 7:25Speaker 3: called a fact. I had a nineteen seventy six Buick
- 7:27Speaker 3: Electra two twenty five. Oh wow, And we called a
- 7:30Speaker 3: fanway because it was grain and it dude, here's the thing.
- 7:34Speaker 3: It didn't go over eighty. You could the phenomenon like.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Yeah, the wheels would have gone a part shake.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Yeah, so you know, you got to be smarter than that.
- 7:43Speaker 3: I mean, and I just that that's you know, it's
- 7:47Speaker 3: something that you know, Eagles will look at that when
- 7:49Speaker 3: they decide where they're going to extend his contract off
- 7:52Speaker 3: of the fifth year option, you know, if they do so. Yeah,
- 7:56Speaker 3: so yeah, he talked about Grenard, talk about Hunt. You
- 8:01Speaker 3: could tell he likes Hunt. There's no question about it.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Yep.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Now, now what I thought was, let's get to the secondary.
- 8:07Speaker 3: This was interesting, not that you should read in too
- 8:09Speaker 3: much because it's only May. Would you interpret what he
- 8:13Speaker 3: said that Epps has the upperhand of Michael Carter. Not
- 8:16Speaker 3: that's a big deal, but I thought that was interesting.
- 8:19Speaker 1: So yeah, So the two interpretations or what we know
- 8:22Speaker 1: degene in base means that so far he expects Rieku
- 8:26Speaker 1: willing to be a three down cornerback, not just a
- 8:29Speaker 1: nickel corner okay, which is interesting because just like you
- 8:32Speaker 1: were saying, Seattle did not see him that way last year.
- 8:35Speaker 2: They did not have him out there on rundowns.
- 8:38Speaker 1: But then obviously he also said the gene would still
- 8:41Speaker 1: be the nickel, which means nickelback. So when they are
- 8:44Speaker 1: in Nickel. There is going to have to be a replacement.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Now the question is is that replacement a safety or
- 8:52Speaker 1: another hybrid deal.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 8:53Speaker 1: He talked about Epps, He talked about Michael Carter. The
- 8:56Speaker 1: second I was I thought, he like you say, he
- 9:00Speaker 1: keeps it one hundred. He talked about Epps as being
- 9:04Speaker 1: pleasantly surprised because he didn't know him, and then watching
- 9:08Speaker 1: him play, he was generally pleased with his instincts, his
- 9:13Speaker 1: knowledge of the defense. He's not that old, even though
- 9:15Speaker 1: he's gonna turn thirty, or he'll be thirty if he's
- 9:18Speaker 1: not already, he'll be thirty in the season. I am
- 9:22Speaker 1: sort of fascinated by it, because I mean that would
- 9:25Speaker 1: make Marcus SEPs what we said he is, which is
- 9:27Speaker 1: a third safety.
- 9:28Speaker 2: He's only coming in, but he's really gonna play a lot.
- 9:30Speaker 2: If that's the case, you know, well.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Here let again, where in May they're going to add
- 9:35Speaker 3: another safety, preferently by training camp. Yeah, it remains to
- 9:39Speaker 3: see if that guy would be would be considered to
- 9:42Speaker 3: be a starter or in the mixed guy which means
- 9:45Speaker 3: he competes to be a starter. But they have to
- 9:47Speaker 3: be better there And again, I worry about Drew mccoomba,
- 9:52Speaker 3: and he actually Vic also will get to mccomba a
- 9:55Speaker 3: second on what Vic said, but in terms of the
- 9:58Speaker 3: injury coming back from it, but i'm I'm mcooba hasn't
- 10:02Speaker 3: shwn that he could stay healthy. He's got that is that.
- 10:04Speaker 3: One personal guy told me m he's got a nickel
- 10:08Speaker 3: build for a safety. Ironically, he played both. You know
- 10:11Speaker 3: that he's got that versatility. And the thing about Fangio
- 10:15Speaker 3: is he'll do whatever it takes, like he'll be resourceful,
- 10:20Speaker 3: like he they draft Eagles drafted Dean to be a corner,
- 10:24Speaker 3: not a nickel. Uh Degene was hurt when they drafted him.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Come back from hamsterring and he got hurt again minor injury.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Has been hurt since then. Really, but Vick's like, all right,
- 10:35Speaker 3: we're gonna start them off at nickel, Like, okay, we
- 10:36Speaker 3: didn't think he was going to stay there with the
- 10:38Speaker 3: hell new oh well he detered. He he winds up
- 10:41Speaker 3: being like this super freak dynamic nickel the league hasn't
- 10:44Speaker 3: really seen before, Like you know, you just don't know that.
- 10:46Speaker 3: But he'll he'll do what he has to do. Like
- 10:49Speaker 3: so to say that mccoba couldn't play Nickel if he
- 10:53Speaker 3: need him to, and they get let's say Carter or
- 10:56Speaker 3: EPs wins it, and they signed a veteran safety to
- 10:58Speaker 3: play to be the other safety. I'm not rolling anything
- 11:01Speaker 3: out long term. Mccoob was to be clear to safety.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Now he's just starting safety, but who knows if it
- 11:08Speaker 3: it's not happy, all bets are off. He again, I've
- 11:10Speaker 3: said this and I'll say it again. Not that he
- 11:12Speaker 3: has a good relationship with Howie as to understand it,
- 11:13Speaker 3: but he doesn't care what Like he he kind of
- 11:16Speaker 3: talked about his clashes in Denver. Yeah, it was John Alway,
- 11:20Speaker 3: whoever it was, whoever hired a lay maybe whoever. But
- 11:23Speaker 3: he's gonna do whatever it's best to win. They all
- 11:25Speaker 3: want to win anyway, So it's not about his ego
- 11:27Speaker 3: as much as he wants to win and whatever's gonna
- 11:29Speaker 3: help them win the best is whatever he sees fit.
- 11:32Speaker 3: So right, I'm not runing anything out long term.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Right, And so I interpreted them him saying Cooper de
- 11:38Speaker 1: Gene is gonna be safety as they just did not
- 11:41Speaker 1: feel a that there was anybody in the market that
- 11:44Speaker 1: was going to come in and be better than Cooper
- 11:47Speaker 1: as a starting safety, even though Cooper really hasn't played there.
- 11:49Speaker 3: But again it's but again to be clear, it's degene
- 11:53Speaker 3: in base base. It may yeah, they may play bass
- 11:56Speaker 3: ten players. That snaps a game.
- 11:58Speaker 1: But yeah, but right, but true, true, although there are
- 12:01Speaker 1: nic teams, there are, but there's there's now arise in
- 12:05Speaker 1: twelve and thirteen, they'll probably be in base a little
- 12:08Speaker 1: more than than they have been.
- 12:10Speaker 3: In On your point, depending on the opponent, I know,
- 12:13Speaker 3: I get where you're going. But they're a nickel team
- 12:15Speaker 3: by trade. That's the way, because well, it's because of
- 12:19Speaker 3: the Ghane. The big part of it is because he's
- 12:21Speaker 3: so great you want him on the field for kind
- 12:23Speaker 3: of every play. So on your point, okay, let me
- 12:30Speaker 3: ask you this on what you just said, Well, okay,
- 12:36Speaker 3: so maybe he's more of it. So maybe I didn't
- 12:39Speaker 3: think of it the way you expounded on it.
- 12:42Speaker 2: To finish the b I was gonna have that.
- 12:44Speaker 1: How in Leics there's a movement how he and the
- 12:46Speaker 1: team don't think that there's a safety worth trading for
- 12:51Speaker 1: to give up compensation. Yeah, when they obviously have the
- 12:54Speaker 1: gene who can do it, and then they really just
- 12:57Speaker 1: need another nickel safety, and they've a decent number of
- 13:01Speaker 1: guys to compete. Well, they might find a better nickel
- 13:04Speaker 1: safety on the market.
- 13:05Speaker 3: That's a start. But see whatever, whoever plays the majority
- 13:08Speaker 3: of snaps as a starter, that's the way you look.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Even if he does this open up the game as
- 13:11Speaker 3: the starter. Sure, that's why they're how he's looking. Whether
- 13:15Speaker 3: it's preferably, you don't want to give up anything for
- 13:18Speaker 3: it because this guy, to be honest with you, the
- 13:21Speaker 3: guy they're gonna add on the street is probably gonna
- 13:23Speaker 3: be one year guy or a guy in trade. Like
- 13:25Speaker 3: how many teams are gonna get with starting safety? Like
- 13:27Speaker 3: we use this situation before, Is there really a guy
- 13:31Speaker 3: like C. J. Gardner Johnson? Okay, you got to find
- 13:33Speaker 3: a guy who's in a contract disput or they don't
- 13:35Speaker 3: want to extend, who has to be a stud talent.
- 13:39Speaker 3: It's just one of those rare situations. I know how
- 13:41Speaker 3: he's really good at it finding he's good at checking
- 13:46Speaker 3: in with agents and clubs. Hey, where you're aut with
- 13:48Speaker 3: his player, just like he did with John Robinson with A. J. Brown.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Ironically funny how things work out four years later. But
- 13:56Speaker 3: it's fascinating because as you've brought this point up, and
- 13:59Speaker 3: it even is it more important to forget what the
- 14:03Speaker 3: jeans position is long term? Clearly he's not a corner. Okay,
- 14:07Speaker 3: we've known that he's dynamic, he's unreal Nickel. But this
- 14:11Speaker 3: is what you brought up. Did you bring this up
- 14:12Speaker 3: two years ago when you brought up the contract. Yes,
- 14:15Speaker 3: it's gonna be a problem like it. Boy, did you
- 14:17Speaker 3: see that early?
- 14:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm starting to I'm starting to think different a
- 14:21Speaker 1: little differently, only because he made All Pro and he's
- 14:23Speaker 1: so talented, and you saw what happened with Trent McDuffie.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I mean, as long as he's on a field seventy
- 14:28Speaker 1: percent of the time eighty or more and making plays,
- 14:31Speaker 1: he's probably gonna line himself up for a big pay
- 14:34Speaker 1: day regardless because there will be yes there really valuable.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Ain't getting thirty million playing majority Nickels. Eagles have leverage.
- 14:41Speaker 1: They do, But I well, we have to just say,
- 14:45Speaker 1: I mean, he may reject an offer and say, in
- 14:48Speaker 1: free agency, I bet if somebody would give me.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Top dollars and they're not letting them, they're not letting
- 14:53Speaker 3: him go.
- 14:54Speaker 2: I know they're not letting them out.
- 14:55Speaker 1: But if you're not gonna let him walk. You're gonna
- 14:57Speaker 1: have to pay him top market money. You're al sie,
- 15:00Speaker 1: Oh no, they'll pay.
- 15:01Speaker 3: They'll make the highest pai Nickel on NFL history of fact,
- 15:03Speaker 3: they might make him the big highest paid safety if
- 15:05Speaker 3: you want to playing you know, sixty to seventy safety.
- 15:08Speaker 3: But it's something to revisit. We'll see, you know, we'll
- 15:13Speaker 3: visit mid season. Okay, we'll try to get the snaps
- 15:16Speaker 3: what per position per safety and per Nickel? Right, But
- 15:20Speaker 3: you make a great point. Okay, let's look at their
- 15:23Speaker 3: Let's look at their let's look at their their schedule. Okay,
- 15:27Speaker 3: in terms of teams that will play heavy twelve back
- 15:31Speaker 3: to back Bears and Rams.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I would also think commanders with their lack of
- 15:37Speaker 1: receiving power right now, and then the fact they have
- 15:39Speaker 1: a little bit more a tight.
- 15:40Speaker 3: End ye plus the right yep, probably Giants, Giants Isaiah
- 15:49Speaker 3: they could Yeah. I think, yeah, I think you just
- 15:51Speaker 3: opened a Tendora's box here, man, this is the.
- 15:55Speaker 1: I mean, you would think the Giants with with with
- 15:57Speaker 1: THEO Johnson and with Isaiah.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Iiley like, yeah, that's what I mean.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, definitely for sure.
- 16:02Speaker 3: And what's the dude's name who played a Canetius the
- 16:06Speaker 3: tight end man hurts yeah, Chris Mann hurts. Yeah. So
- 16:10Speaker 3: it's this is fasciinating.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Let's let's let's I mean they played the Bears and
- 16:14Speaker 2: Rams back to back.
- 16:15Speaker 1: You're talking about you might see like thirty tight ends
- 16:17Speaker 1: on the field between those two teams.
- 16:18Speaker 3: They got to they have to account for. They have
- 16:20Speaker 3: somebody tight ends. They got it for all the draft
- 16:22Speaker 3: capitol and catch tase meant. But right, it's it's fascinating.
- 16:26Speaker 3: So what other takeaways do we have?
- 16:29Speaker 2: Just defensively?
- 16:32Speaker 1: I think that that I was just a little I'm like, okay,
- 16:35Speaker 1: I guess Riquillan, who the Seahawks really did not I
- 16:39Speaker 1: even and I watched the tape on him too, and
- 16:40Speaker 1: I thought his run defense, it's not like he can't
- 16:44Speaker 1: tackle or anything. It was more like he didn't really
- 16:46Speaker 1: run to the ball if it wasn't near him thing,
- 16:48Speaker 1: And if it was near him, he's not the first
- 16:50Speaker 1: guy or the second guy in the pile. Uh So,
- 16:54Speaker 1: I don't know if that's something Vic thinks that he
- 16:56Speaker 1: and his coaches can coach into him, or if it's
- 16:59Speaker 1: something that they think think won't hurt them as much.
- 17:03Speaker 1: But this goes back to a conversation we had on
- 17:06Speaker 1: a recent pod. There were about three or four games
- 17:08Speaker 1: last year where the Eagles run defense was atrocious, and
- 17:11Speaker 1: that's your run defense doesn't stare game corner, right. I
- 17:14Speaker 1: understand that Vic even acknowledged it. He said, everybody wants
- 17:17Speaker 1: to blame our offense. I don't know if you heard
- 17:19Speaker 1: him say that, but he said, there were we had
- 17:21Speaker 1: a good year, but there were some games where we
- 17:24Speaker 1: really were not good. I'm paraphrasing. He said the offense
- 17:28Speaker 1: got the blame, but we really weren't good. And you know,
- 17:31Speaker 1: you know he was talking about the Bears game. You know,
- 17:32Speaker 1: he was talking about the forty nine Ers game, and
- 17:34Speaker 1: you know he was talking about there was another game earlier,
- 17:37Speaker 1: like the second half of Rams and Bucks. You know,
- 17:39Speaker 1: when those guys, those teams scored a lot of two
- 17:42Speaker 1: points and a half.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Those are what he's talking about.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Giants game, Giants game, Giants.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Yeah, run defense was atrocious, so they didn't really help
- 17:51Speaker 1: themselves there. Getting a corner who another team that was
- 17:54Speaker 1: good at run defense did not want on the field
- 17:56Speaker 1: in those situations.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, So Willan will In's a work in progress.
- 18:02Speaker 3: I appreciate Vic that he's just going by what he saw.
- 18:05Speaker 3: It's all he could that's all he can do. Yeah,
- 18:07Speaker 3: and he you know he he Vic alluded to. He
- 18:10Speaker 3: also talked about he likes being here yet if you
- 18:12Speaker 3: watch his opening press conference, Willan was signed. He really
- 18:16Speaker 3: is happy to be here in Philly, right, you know? So, yeah,
- 18:20Speaker 3: I'm I'm although I'm more intrigued by the offense, to
- 18:23Speaker 3: be honest with you, not that Sean Manning said very much.
- 18:26Speaker 3: We'll get to him a second, but Vic was holding court.
- 18:29Speaker 3: He's just he's the best. I mean, I've always Jim
- 18:32Speaker 3: Johnson is my favorite Eagles coordinator since covering the team.
- 18:36Speaker 3: But this guy's one a man. He's phenomenal for sure.
- 18:40Speaker 1: All Right, before we go to Manion, I just just
- 18:42Speaker 1: to I don't want to forget, so I'm gonna sandwich
- 18:44Speaker 1: you did in here a quick special teams point that
- 18:48Speaker 1: at least listening to Michael Clay and of course things
- 18:51Speaker 1: can always change.
- 18:53Speaker 2: He didn't send.
- 18:56Speaker 1: M h I think he gave the standard Jake's hardest
- 19:03Speaker 1: critic of himself.
- 19:04Speaker 2: YadA YadA.
- 19:05Speaker 1: You know, the Eagles haven't done anything right now to
- 19:06Speaker 1: make you think that they are at least going to
- 19:09Speaker 1: challenge Jake Elliott, who's coming off a struggling year.
- 19:12Speaker 3: Now, we'll see what happens when they get to training camp.
- 19:15Speaker 3: If they haven't signed one at the started training camp,
- 19:17Speaker 3: they're clearly not they're not going to They're telling you
- 19:19Speaker 3: that they're not going to address it. I don't agree
- 19:21Speaker 3: with it. I know that he got a small cut
- 19:23Speaker 3: and pay m hm. They had leverage because he had
- 19:26Speaker 3: a bad year. He is regressed, whereas rain Man is phenomenal,
- 19:32Speaker 3: like he's he got extension he deserved. He's what a
- 19:35Speaker 3: fine for Howie right? But in Eliott was a great
- 19:38Speaker 3: fine form at seventeen. Marvin Lewis taking a shot at
- 19:40Speaker 3: the Eagles. Oh, why would you know they're taking like,
- 19:42Speaker 3: what are they seeing? We're not kind of well, obviously
- 19:44Speaker 3: they mistake the Bengals, but that was ten years ago.
- 19:48Speaker 3: This guy coming off a tough year. We'll see. This
- 19:52Speaker 3: is another If we look at our pre training camp list,
- 19:55Speaker 3: it's going to be on it. We got to see
- 19:56Speaker 3: how he looks.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, I agree.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Listen, people can see Michael Clay can say what he wants,
- 20:03Speaker 1: Nick can say what he wants how he can sent.
- 20:04Speaker 1: But if they're struggling going on in training camp, right o,
- 20:08Speaker 1: if it doesn't look right, they're gonna do something. Yeah,
- 20:10Speaker 1: they would have to. Hey, Philly fans game day is
- 20:13Speaker 1: stressful enough. Parking, traffic, long lines, We've all been there.

- 21:31Speaker 2: Head to Philadelphia Eagles dot com slash travel to secure
- 21:34Speaker 2: your spot.
- 21:36Speaker 1: All Right, I gotta admit I was really looking forward
- 21:39Speaker 1: to the first Shawn Manion press conference for the same
- 21:43Speaker 1: reasons you and everybody else were.
- 21:44Speaker 2: You want to kind of get a.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Familiar with what he wants to do, the scheme, all
- 21:48Speaker 1: these tight ends, these wide receivers, AJ Brown, what's not
- 21:51Speaker 1: having it? And we got none of that, man Like,
- 21:54Speaker 1: the most we got was sort of a somewhat of
- 21:57Speaker 1: a confirmation that, yes, they'll be doing the offensive lineman
- 21:59Speaker 1: are working on the new blocking scheme and Chris Cooper's
- 22:03Speaker 1: doing a good job and teaching it that but.
- 22:05Speaker 2: That's about it.
- 22:06Speaker 1: I was a little a little disappointed there.
- 22:08Speaker 3: Yeah, Vick was with Cooper, Chris Cooper and Denver Right
- 22:11Speaker 3: and many knows him. Sean knows him from Minnesota, So
- 22:15Speaker 3: I mean, I wouldn't read it. And it's not like
- 22:17Speaker 3: he didn't have a disappointing press conwerence.
- 22:18Speaker 2: He's just no, I'm not mad, and.
- 22:20Speaker 1: I'm not going to make fun of him like we
- 22:21Speaker 1: did with Sirianti on his first print. I'm just saying
- 22:24Speaker 1: it was unfulfilling for me from an info and an
- 22:26Speaker 1: intel standpoint.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Yeah, he's not and if I'm him, I'm not going
- 22:29Speaker 3: to give up, like like the like. There was a
- 22:31Speaker 3: good question about the language. It's West Coast language. What
- 22:34Speaker 3: they're going to do is it's called something like he'll
- 22:38Speaker 3: bring in some stuff that Jalen likes, but it's called
- 22:40Speaker 3: something in West Coast, so they have to marry it
- 22:43Speaker 3: to help, you know, to help the transition for Jalen
- 22:45Speaker 3: and other players. They have to get on the same
- 22:47Speaker 3: page on certain changes. But yeah, it's it's his own
- 22:51Speaker 3: blocking scheme mostly m hm. And I know people are
- 22:54Speaker 3: spect Oh, it's going to be inside you. We'll see,
- 22:57Speaker 3: we'll see exactly which it's a combo, you know what
- 23:00Speaker 3: we'll see. But it's it's just gonna be different. It's
- 23:04Speaker 3: gonna be different. I can't wait to watch it. This
- 23:06Speaker 3: is the most intrigue is what this offense is going
- 23:07Speaker 3: to look like?
- 23:08Speaker 1: Yeah, Like, I wasn't expecting Sean to say, oh, yeah,
- 23:11Speaker 1: we've got this play called Spider to Banana.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Why. I get that he's not flow into the West
- 23:17Speaker 2: Coast offense, but.
- 23:20Speaker 1: And I get a lot of the question asking was
- 23:22Speaker 1: about just preparedness for the job, being ready.
- 23:26Speaker 2: He talked about.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Being the o C at the East West Shrine Bowl,
- 23:30Speaker 1: having a virtual interview with the team.
- 23:33Speaker 2: I liked how he said.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Then I came in person and he started saying, yeah,
- 23:36Speaker 1: I got to meet with Jeffrey and Howie and then
- 23:38Speaker 1: he was like, oh and then this He's like, I
- 23:40Speaker 1: met with a lot of people because you know how
- 23:41Speaker 1: the Eagles do with their interviews. You got to meet
- 23:43Speaker 1: like Julie, you got to meet the a g ms,
- 23:46Speaker 1: you got to meet everybody and get the stamp.
- 23:48Speaker 3: Of especially Dom did probably Dom two. Yeah, Well he's
- 23:54Speaker 3: an information he's the information gatherer. So yeah, yeah, I have.
- 23:58Speaker 3: I was talking our Pictreon folks. But by the way,
- 24:00Speaker 3: we had it unbelievable live stream Wednesday night. Oh I
- 24:03Speaker 3: don't know. I wasn't sure how many peopleould show up. Yeah,
- 24:06Speaker 3: it was These aren't just like Okay, you asked the question,
- 24:09Speaker 3: I answer, it's it's back and forth. It's philosophy. It's
- 24:14Speaker 3: what what's going on with this situation. That's a situation.
- 24:17Speaker 3: We gave it to you. We talked about this year
- 24:19Speaker 3: ago with Patreon. We told them about safety. At some
- 24:21Speaker 3: point he's probably Gene's probably gonna play safety right here
- 24:25Speaker 3: we go. We don't know, we'll see how much that means.
- 24:27Speaker 3: But we're really proud of the group. Man, this was
- 24:30Speaker 3: one of my favorite ones on Wednesday night. I got
- 24:32Speaker 3: it was awesome. It really was nice.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Uh So Sewan said the right things about Jalen Hurt's
- 24:37Speaker 1: hard worker, learning the You know, it may not that
- 24:40Speaker 1: you would expect anything different, but there was just nothing
- 24:44Speaker 1: so revelatory, if that's.
- 24:45Speaker 2: A word, like there was with Vic's press conference.
- 24:48Speaker 1: You know, I would have loved to have heard him
- 24:50Speaker 1: even say, hey, we're gonna run a lot of thirteen personnel.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Or I learned this under Matt Lafleur, or I learned
- 24:56Speaker 1: this under Sean McVay, or I borrowed this kind of
- 25:00Speaker 1: except that I really just not getting that.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean Look, he's got trained under McVeigh as
- 25:06Speaker 3: drafted by the Rams, and he got exposure to you
- 25:10Speaker 3: know O'Connell and and that O'Connell's version of McVeigh and
- 25:15Speaker 3: then his OC comes from the Shanning entry. So they're
- 25:18Speaker 3: gonna combine both. Nobody know how much percentage of each,
- 25:22Speaker 3: but they're gonna combine both minds and we'll see how
- 25:24Speaker 3: it looks. It's just I have a very high anticipation.
- 25:29Speaker 3: I put it up, not quite as much high for
- 25:32Speaker 3: when Chip Kelly came in thirteen, because you know, you
- 25:34Speaker 3: heard all this crazy stuff, but I just think it
- 25:37Speaker 3: could be really fun. I'm really looking forward to it.
- 25:39Speaker 2: It could be. It would be nice if it is, Yeah,
- 25:42Speaker 2: look forward to it.
- 25:43Speaker 1: I think that, you know, next week OTAs will begin
- 25:45Speaker 1: and we'll get a you know, if we're there, I
- 25:48Speaker 1: should be there. We'll get a better way to convey
- 25:52Speaker 1: what we see and what the offense might look like,
- 25:54Speaker 1: or what the early versions are working on and focusing on.
- 25:59Speaker 1: If they if they open it up. Sometimes they do,
- 26:01Speaker 1: sometimes they know. Sometimes it's ten minutes. Sometimes you get more.
- 26:05Speaker 1: So we'll see what's going on there. All right, everybody
- 26:07Speaker 1: have a fantastic Memorial Day weekend. I'm sorry it's gonna
- 26:11Speaker 1: be a rain out for a lot of us here
- 26:13Speaker 1: in the Northeast, but we will pick up our schedule
- 26:16Speaker 1: on their analysis series next week. And also, like I said,
- 26:19Speaker 1: bring you sit and Sounds from Ota. So that's gonna
- 26:22Speaker 1: do it for this episode of Inside the Birds, the
