- 0:01Hey. Everybody, welcome to the Good
- 0:03Morning from the Chicken Coop podcast.
- 0:05My name is Kim Johnson and I am a mastermindset, coach, creative
- 0:08strategist, and also happened to be a farmer.
- 0:11This is my Chicken coop and I come out here every day.
- 0:14To record a podcast to. Teach distinctions,
- 0:17possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring some
- 0:20joy. Into the world.
- 0:21So welcome to the coop and let's start your day off in a
- 0:24fantastic way. Everybody, good morning from my
- 0:28workshop in the garage. So I'm looking at what we were
- 0:33working on our project over the last few days has been this crow
- 0:37feeder. And of course, because I had the
- 0:40best laid plans, I drew them out.
- 0:43I used Chaji PT to help me create a, a buy list, a cut
- 0:47list, everything that we needed. And then I was so excited, this
- 0:51cute little design, because again, my crows are very
- 0:55important to me on the farm. I know that that sounds crazy.
- 0:58Most people want to get rid of crows.
- 1:00I want to attract crows because they protect the chickens.
- 1:03If you give them treats, they stay and alert all of the other
- 1:08animals. If there's Hawks air attacks,
- 1:11they're very good at air attacks.
- 1:12And they let them know. And then that puts the Bluebirds
- 1:15out. And then the male Bluebirds go
- 1:16crazy and they go after them. So it's like this, it's like
- 1:20this little alarm system built into nature, but you just have
- 1:22to know how to work with it. And crows love shelled peanuts.
- 1:28They love whole peanuts. They don't care what it is.
- 1:30If it's a peanut involved, they will actually be completely
- 1:34thankful and stay around. And then as soon as something
- 1:37flies into their territory, they screech at the top of their
- 1:40lungs and then we know and the chickens run.
- 1:43It's a really great system. So I decided I wanted to make
- 1:45this crow feeder that was separate from my regular bird
- 1:49feeders because it's important that they have an area that's
- 1:53big enough for them because they're very big.
- 1:55And so I got this in my head and I was like, OK, I want to do
- 1:58this and I want to do this. And I have a pet peeve with all
- 2:00bird feeders out there because they don't protect the seed from
- 2:04the water coming in and you end up throwing away so much food.
- 2:07And of course, there's no incentive for these companies to
- 2:11improve their bird feeders and save food because then, you
- 2:15know, you don't buy bird feeders often and you buy food all the
- 2:19time. So the more food waste there is,
- 2:21the more of an incentive there is for them to keep these
- 2:23feeders minimalistic, protecting the food.
- 2:27So I, I had this idea, of course, I go to Mark and I'm
- 2:30like, OK, look, this is what I want to do.
- 2:33And we discuss it and he says sure.
- 2:35Now when I know when he says sure, that means OK, he'll do
- 2:39it, but that doesn't mean he's going to do it the way I want it
- 2:42done. So I was very meticulous in my
- 2:44plan. I said, OK, I'm going to put it
- 2:47all together. I'm going to make sure it's
- 2:49there if he sees that it's there.
- 2:50And of course, it's more intricate.
- 2:53There's lots of things he does not have a full workshop to like
- 2:58be making dowels and doing all these little things that were
- 3:02involved in the original 1. So he sits me down and he says
- 3:08the material is not going to work because you want this to be
- 3:12sturdy. These are big birds.
- 3:13You have to consider these things and of course, I feel
- 3:18like this is the pin to my balloon.
- 3:20I could you just see it pink And then I'm and I'm feeling crappy
- 3:24about it. But he's like, I'm not saying
- 3:26I'm not going to do it. I'm just saying we have to be
- 3:28adaptable. So he says this to me and I'm
- 3:31like, oh, OK, so maybe we have to be creative in the process.
- 3:34So I'm trying to shift my emotion through this and follow
- 3:37along because this is very important because I have to keep
- 3:40shifting my emotion. So we go to the store.
- 3:42He wants to use this composite material because he says it's
- 3:46stronger. It's not going to weather, it's
- 3:48going to last a lot longer. Then we have to go through
- 3:51iterations of what's going to work in the bottom so that
- 3:54there's drainage. Because what I said I wanted, he
- 3:57was like, no, it's going to rot. You need to have this.
- 3:59I was like, OK. And I guess that when we planned
- 4:03it with the GPT, it didn't consider certain things, which
- 4:06we know it doesn't unless you tell it to search for things.
- 4:09But in any event, here we are. I'm standing in front of a
- 4:13version of this right now and it does doesn't look like what I
- 4:18thought it would look like. It doesn't look bad, but it just
- 4:21doesn't look like what I thought it would look like.
- 4:24I wanted this cute little peak gabled roof.
- 4:26He's like, no, you, you that's just going to complicate things.
- 4:30We don't need that. And I get it.
- 4:33He he's, he's looking at this at practicality, and I'm looking at
- 4:37this from the standpoint of yes, functionality, of course, but I
- 4:42also wanted it to look really cute.
- 4:44So we have this, you know, flat metal roof on it.
- 4:47It's very tall. It's very simple and there's
- 4:50absolutely nothing wrong with it.
- 4:53OK, I want to be that very clear and I'm super appreciative of
- 4:56it. But does it look like, you know,
- 4:59Martha Stewart did it? No, because it's very
- 5:03functional, but it's not adorable.
- 5:06Like that's the point. And what do I do with this?
- 5:10So I sit here and I look at it and I think to myself, well,
- 5:13this doesn't start off like what I want.
- 5:16This doesn't finish up with what it started off like.
- 5:19And I had to shift myself. So I was like, okay, I love the
- 5:23fact that I'm going to be able to feed the crows.
- 5:25What was my biggest outcome? Feeding the crows?
- 5:28Is it sturdy for them? Yes.
- 5:29Does it give that food protection?
- 5:31Yes. Is it going to do its job?
- 5:32Yes. So I had to get myself shifted
- 5:36around that to make sure that I understood we are meeting the
- 5:40outcomes. Does it have to be adorable like
- 5:42Snow White herself constructed it?
- 5:44No, no, no, no, no, no. It just has to be functional.
- 5:48And are there things that I can do to make it cute?
- 5:50Sure. I'm absolutely 100% positive
- 5:53about that, but it required me shifting my entire and going
- 5:57entire mindset about it and going back to my, you know,
- 6:00original thought of my outcome is to feed the crows.
- 6:04And sometimes when you feel off, that's the best thing you can
- 6:06do. Go back, question yourself and
- 6:09get back into the right state of mind so you don't get
- 6:12disappointed when you still have your outcome.
- 6:16All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 6:18will see you tomorrow. Bye.
