- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning.
- 0:07Speaker 1: It's great to start the day the best way possible,
- 0:09Speaker 1: isn't it, and that's by taking some time with God,
- 0:13Speaker 1: reading something out of the Bible and saying, God.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I want you to guide my life, I want you
- 0:20Speaker 1: to shape it, and I want you to shape my
- 0:22Speaker 1: perspective on life, so it matches your perspective, because I
- 0:27Speaker 1: know you're the only one in this universe who sees
- 0:29Speaker 1: things from the proper perspective.
- 0:33Speaker 1: So let's do that. This week, we're spending this week
- 0:36Speaker 1: talking about giving God our time. And wouldn't you say
- 0:41Speaker 1: it's true that your time is one of your most
- 0:45Speaker 1: treasured things in your life.
- 0:48Speaker 1: It seems like there's so many things taking up our time,
- 0:52Speaker 1: and any time we have control over is so precious
- 0:55Speaker 1: to us. What are we going to do with it?
- 0:58Speaker 1: And then on the bigger picture, if you're a young
- 1:00Speaker 1: person and you're sort of charting the course of your life,
- 1:03Speaker 1: what are you going to study? What kind of job
- 1:05Speaker 1: do you want to get? Where do you want that
- 1:07Speaker 1: to lead to? You're thinking about what you're going to
- 1:10Speaker 1: put your time into. Well, uh, I want you today
- 1:16Speaker 1: to recognise.
- 1:18Speaker 1: That our time is in God's hands. He is in control,
- 1:23Speaker 1: not we ourselves. Let me read you again the passage
- 1:26Speaker 1: we're looking at this week, starting in James chapter 4,
- 1:29Speaker 1: verse 13 in the Bible.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Here's what God says to us. Come now, you who
- 1:36Speaker 1: say today or tomorrow we will go to such and
- 1:38Speaker 1: such a town and spend a year there and trade
- 1:41Speaker 1: and make a profit. Yet you do not know what
- 1:45Speaker 1: tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are
- 1:49Speaker 1: a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead,
- 1:53Speaker 1: you ought to say, if the Lord wills, we will
- 1:57Speaker 1: live and do this or that.
- 1:59Speaker 1: As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such
- 2:03Speaker 1: boasting is evil. So whoever knows the right thing to
- 2:07Speaker 1: do and fails to do it.
- 2:09Speaker 1: For him it is sin.
- 2:12Speaker 1: While this passage definitely shows us the truth that our
- 2:16Speaker 1: time is in God's hands, doesn't it?
- 2:20Speaker 1: You do not know what tomorrow will bring.
- 2:26Speaker 1: You don't know, uh, how many people a couple of
- 2:31Speaker 1: years ago sat in their lives without concern, thinking their
- 2:36Speaker 1: lives were in total control and, uh, all was good
- 2:40Speaker 1: and nothing could shake that. And then the coronavirus appeared.
- 2:46Speaker 1: And we all realised how little of our lives is
- 2:50Speaker 1: in our control and how much we depend on God
- 2:54Speaker 1: in life. Anything else.
- 2:57Speaker 1: The Bible says in this passage, anything else is arrogance.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Thinking I am the master of my fate, I will
- 3:05Speaker 1: chart my own course. Nothing, uh, nothing can take control
- 3:10Speaker 1: away from me. Well, if you hold that view sooner
- 3:13Speaker 1: or later, a crisis is going to come, and you're
- 3:18Speaker 1: going to realise I am not in control.
- 3:24Speaker 1: And at that point you need to recognise God is
- 3:27Speaker 1: the one in control, and my desire for you is
- 3:31Speaker 1: that before that time comes, before God has to send
- 3:34Speaker 1: a crisis into your life to shake you up a
- 3:37Speaker 1: bit and help you realise how much you need Him.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I hope you will recognise that on your own.
- 3:45Speaker 1: That your time is in God's hands, God is in control,
- 3:49Speaker 1: and not you. When you realise that, then the significance
- 3:54Speaker 1: of focusing time in your life on your relationship with
- 3:58Speaker 1: God becomes much more important, right?
- 4:03Speaker 1: So that when you get up, you want to open
- 4:05Speaker 1: your Bible and let God speak into your life. You
- 4:09Speaker 1: want to get God's perspective on life. You want to
- 4:12Speaker 1: have a good relationship with God, dealing with those things
- 4:15Speaker 1: in your life that you know offend Him, so that
- 4:19Speaker 1: you know God is working with you in the time
- 4:23Speaker 1: in your life to establish his plans for your life,
- 4:27Speaker 1: which are always good.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Right
- 4:31Speaker 1: So as you go into this day to day.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Just think about your time today.
- 4:38Speaker 1: What part of your time, even if you start with
- 4:42Speaker 1: a small amount, can you start giving to God, focusing
- 4:46Speaker 1: on Him, listening to Him as you read the Bible, responding,
- 4:51Speaker 1: talking to Him, interacting with what He's saying to you,
- 4:55Speaker 1: and building your life around His purposes for your life.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I'm John North.
