Speaker 3: little bit later on the show. Of course, the big
1:48
Speaker 3: story around these parts, the the Pro Road National Championships
1:53
Speaker 3: are now, I guess officially as of about if everything
1:56
Speaker 3: went according to schedule about seven months ago, officially under Charleston.
2:00
Speaker 3: The chief of staff of the Good One Administration, Matt
2:02
Speaker 3: Sutton in studio with us this morning. Matthew, Good morning, morning, David.
2:05
Speaker 4: How's it going?
2:06
Speaker 3: But how's it going for you, that's the big question.
2:08
Speaker 6: I'm here with you. It's going good. I get my
2:10
Speaker 6: first appearance in this studios, so I'm excited. Yeah, yeah,
2:14
Speaker 6: this is this is phenomenal. I can hear myself, I
2:16
Speaker 6: can hear you. That's something different. You can you can
2:19
Speaker 6: see me. I don't know if that's a bonus or not.
2:22
Speaker 3: All right, So first thing, and Chief Scott Dempsey's going
2:25
Speaker 3: to join this a little bit later on. And by
2:27
Speaker 3: the way, the mayor could not make the show this morning.
2:30
Speaker 3: She is going to be on Metro News midday though,
2:33
Speaker 3: talking about the event to the people around the state
2:35
Speaker 3: of West Virginia. Because this is this is really huge
2:37
Speaker 3: obviously for Charleston. Let's get to what's on everybody's mind
2:41
Speaker 3: though right now, and that's the traffic situation absolutely so
2:45
Speaker 3: what any and again we can talk to Chief Dempsey
2:47
Speaker 3: about that a little bit later on. But my social
2:49
Speaker 3: media this morning, everywhere I turned on social media traffics
2:52
Speaker 3: and mass traffics and mess what say you You're not
2:56
Speaker 3: gonna argue.
2:56
Speaker 7: With that them, No, I'm not going to argue with it.
2:58
Speaker 7: I'm not gonna argue with it. What I'm going to
3:00
Speaker 7: say is excuse me.
3:01
Speaker 4: First.
3:01
Speaker 7: What I'm going to say is is this is a
3:02
Speaker 7: Monday morning issue only, and I say that only because
3:06
Speaker 7: this was We're not going to have this problem over
3:08
Speaker 7: the next couple of days. This particular race, with the
3:11
Speaker 7: Paracycling race taking place downtown today, required an extra level
3:15
Speaker 7: of precaution as we took We have different cyclists who
3:19
Speaker 7: have different sort of but i'le say they're not the
3:21
Speaker 7: typical bike size, so a lot of them are lower
3:24
Speaker 7: to the ground, which makes them harder to see, so
3:26
Speaker 7: we had to close down more roads. The race route
3:29
Speaker 7: going through downtown is a little bit different. We didn't
3:31
Speaker 7: have this event last year. So the biggest thing I'm
3:34
Speaker 7: going to say is bear with us this morning. We're
3:36
Speaker 7: trying as hard as we can to get everybody in.
3:39
Speaker 7: The races Today will be over about one so you're
3:41
Speaker 7: not gonna have this problem when you leave, and you're
3:42
Speaker 7: not gonna have it over the next couple of days either.
3:45
Speaker 7: It's much more easy to get around downtown in the
3:48
Speaker 7: mornings over the next few days. Today is the toughest
3:50
Speaker 7: day for traffic, so bear with us. Don't think what
3:53
Speaker 7: you see today is what you're going to see tomorrow.
3:54
Speaker 7: It's not going to be the same issues.
3:56
Speaker 3: So let's just say and I'm going to give you
3:58
Speaker 3: an example here. By the way, Chief Sutton always good
4:00
Speaker 3: to take phone calls or text. You can call us
4:02
Speaker 3: big Ley Pigli Wiggly hotline three zero four three four
4:05
Speaker 3: five fifty fifty eight or text courtesy of Tony the
4:07
Speaker 3: Taylor three zero four nine three three or four nine
4:11
Speaker 3: three five five zero zero eight. I understand we've got
4:14
Speaker 3: Tim Brady in the phone too. Let's get to mister
4:16
Speaker 3: Brady and I'll bring him in on the conversation. All right,
4:19
Speaker 3: go ahead and put him on the phone there. Commissioner Brady,
4:23
Speaker 3: how are you? I don't know why it's a cousin, Commissioner,
4:25
Speaker 3: but how's it going?
4:26
Speaker 8: Man?
4:28
Speaker 9: Well, thanks for the thanks for the title upgrade.
4:30
Speaker 8: I appreciate that.
4:30
Speaker 9: I didn't expect a promotion.
4:33
Speaker 3: I got matth Sutton in studio with us and we
4:35
Speaker 3: were just talking about the traffic situation in Chief Sutton
4:38
Speaker 3: tells us that this is not going to be this
4:41
Speaker 3: way all this week.
4:44
Speaker 9: Yeah, today is today is a little bit of an anomaly.
4:47
Speaker 9: The Para road race just got underway in downtown Charleston.
4:50
Speaker 9: The first three waves of writers just went off. But
4:55
Speaker 9: today is a bit of an anomaly. The traffic pattern
4:57
Speaker 9: will be markedly different beginning to tomorrow.
5:01
Speaker 3: And again, the city of Charleston, I think has done
5:03
Speaker 3: a really really great job with having the information posted
5:06
Speaker 3: on social media. I know it's been you know, all
5:09
Speaker 3: over the place, so I mean, just know before you go.
5:11
Speaker 3: But what we want to do, what we wanted to
5:14
Speaker 3: kind of reiterate to people, is that again, if you're
5:17
Speaker 3: coming into work this morning and you're thinking, oh my god,
5:19
Speaker 3: it's going to be a terrible week in Charleston if
5:22
Speaker 3: you work nine to five in you know, some office
5:25
Speaker 3: building downtown, that's not the case, Matt.
5:26
Speaker 4: No, that's not going to be it.
5:27
Speaker 7: I mean, the boulevard is going to be shut down
5:29
Speaker 7: for the for the most part, you know, right in
5:30
Speaker 7: the heart of downtown all week. But the streets getting
5:33
Speaker 7: into downtown, Court Street, Virginia Street, Washington, those will be
5:36
Speaker 7: much easier to get through over the next few days
5:38
Speaker 7: after we get through today.
5:39
Speaker 4: And again, when you leave work today, it's not going
5:41
Speaker 4: to be a problem.
5:42
Speaker 7: Now if you try to leave work here in the
5:44
Speaker 7: next few minutes and you try to get back at
5:45
Speaker 7: about eleven o'clock, You're still going to have these same issues,
5:48
Speaker 7: but we'll be good till till about one o'clock today,
5:51
Speaker 7: two o'clock, and then things will ease up and people
5:54
Speaker 7: will be able to get home pretty easily, and then
5:57
Speaker 7: we'll go back to mostly it being the boulevard are
6:00
Speaker 7: in the mornings, as we get as we get going
6:02
Speaker 7: through us the rest of the week.
6:03
Speaker 3: All right, So what I was gonna kind of paint
6:05
Speaker 3: this little scene for you. Let's say I'm coming off
6:09
Speaker 3: I sixty four and I am coming to Virginia Street,
6:12
Speaker 3: and let's just say I have you know I work downtown,
6:15
Speaker 3: all right? How far can you go down Virginia Street?
6:21
Speaker 7: So what else say is is, first of all, I've
6:23
Speaker 7: born and raised in Charleston, West Virginia, so I only
6:25
Speaker 7: know where like the go marts and those custos, so
6:27
Speaker 7: I don't know the name of the streets. But so
6:28
Speaker 7: if you want to get into downtown, I think you're
6:30
Speaker 7: probably gonna get You're gonna get close to Clintennon Street,
6:34
Speaker 7: and then you're gonna have to wait for a little
6:35
Speaker 7: bit to get in if you and be able to
6:37
Speaker 7: go that way. If you're going to on the other side,
6:39
Speaker 7: trust Low is probably gonna be where you get stuck
6:42
Speaker 7: and have to wait to get in.
6:43
Speaker 4: You're gonna be able to get flagged in.
6:45
Speaker 7: We actually had to fix an issue this morning, and
6:47
Speaker 7: thank you to the USA Cycling folks who were able
6:49
Speaker 7: to move some of the routes around for us to
6:51
Speaker 7: be able to get in. But you can probably get
6:53
Speaker 7: to Clintenon for you're gonna get shut down. You're gonna
6:55
Speaker 7: have to wait. Now, that's that's to be passed through.
6:57
Speaker 7: The traffic's probably a little bit longer than that, but
6:59
Speaker 7: that's gonna be the toughest spot to get to and
7:01
Speaker 7: then get waved in.
7:02
Speaker 3: All right, Tim, let's go.
7:04
Speaker 9: I can tell you. I can tell you. I'm actually
7:06
Speaker 9: standing on Virginia Street in front of the Shanklin Garage
7:09
Speaker 9: between Court Street and Laidley Street, and traffic on Virginia
7:13
Speaker 9: is flowing freely. It's a rolling closure. As Matt said,
7:17
Speaker 9: if you get stuck, you're just gonna have to wait
7:19
Speaker 9: a few minutes and get flagged through. But I'm actually
7:22
Speaker 9: standing here watching watching the traffic come through Virginia Street
7:26
Speaker 9: and accessing downtown Charleston right now.
7:29
Speaker 3: So how are things going? So far, mister Britty, and
7:31
Speaker 3: I know that you're out on location, so we may
7:33
Speaker 3: not keep you on the whole time. I realized that
7:35
Speaker 3: you're out. You're out amongst them, as we would say
7:37
Speaker 3: in southern West Virginia. So so so let's talk. Let's
7:40
Speaker 3: talk about how things are going.
7:41
Speaker 9: So far, things are going great. And to echo Matt's point,
7:45
Speaker 9: the USA cycling folks are great to work with. They
7:49
Speaker 9: helped us out with a traffic issue this morning. But
7:52
Speaker 9: but things are things are going really well. The weather
7:54
Speaker 9: is beautiful. As I mentioned earlier, we just had three
7:57
Speaker 9: waves of paracyclists go off. We have visually impaired riders,
8:03
Speaker 9: we have amputees, we have riders of different physical abilities
8:09
Speaker 9: competing on the streets of Charleston this morning, and everything
8:12
Speaker 9: is going incredibly well because there was a good plan
8:15
Speaker 9: in place and we're working the plan.
8:17
Speaker 3: How many riders do you have in this first event?
8:20
Speaker 3: Approximately this morning, Tim.
8:23
Speaker 9: About twenty five riders just went off, and then there's
8:26
Speaker 9: a second second wave that goes off in a bit,
8:29
Speaker 9: but currently there are about between twenty five and thirty
8:32
Speaker 9: riders on course.
8:34
Speaker 3: All right, tell us, and again I had you on
8:37
Speaker 3: the show last week We've been talking about this to mayor.
8:39
Speaker 3: Is going to be on the mid day show today,
8:41
Speaker 3: talk about Tim what a Matt you can follow over that,
8:44
Speaker 3: What a really huge deal this is for Charleston. We
8:46
Speaker 3: saw it last year with the debut and it's back again.
8:50
Speaker 3: It's going to be back for the next couple of years.
8:52
Speaker 3: Talk about what a big deal this is for Charleston.
8:54
Speaker 9: Had this year, Well, it's a big deal because this
8:57
Speaker 9: is the premiere road cycling event of the year for
9:01
Speaker 9: USA Cycling. It carries with it Olympic qualification components. Even
9:06
Speaker 9: though it's not an Olympic year. These riders are all
9:08
Speaker 9: racing for points and rankings. So this all leads to
9:12
Speaker 9: the twenty twenty eight Olympics. To have an event like
9:17
Speaker 9: this and all of the eyeballs that it brings in
9:19
Speaker 9: Charleston is a big deal for a lot of reasons.
9:23
Speaker 9: You know, it elevates the status of the city. It
9:27
Speaker 9: exposes a lot of people to the city that may
9:29
Speaker 9: not have heard about us or thought about us in
9:32
Speaker 9: that way. You know, the cycling community is a large
9:36
Speaker 9: and passionate community, So engaging those folks and not only
9:40
Speaker 9: selling them on cycling in Charleston Charleston. But but everything
9:43
Speaker 9: else that Charleston has to offer, right, a walkable, fun,
9:47
Speaker 9: safe city with great restaurants, great breweries, friendly people. I
9:52
Speaker 9: just was I was actually with with Matt's boss, marry
9:56
Speaker 9: Me Goodwin. We were talking to a couple from Michigan
9:58
Speaker 9: who were not here for the race, just happened to
9:59
Speaker 9: be here staying in the four Points and saw the race,
10:03
Speaker 9: and we're excited and out taking pictures and enjoying it.
10:06
Speaker 9: So it's it's hard to put into words why this
10:10
Speaker 9: is a big deal, But this is a huge deal
10:12
Speaker 9: for us to host this premier event for five years
10:14
Speaker 9: in the city of Charleston.
10:16
Speaker 3: But Dave Alan showing five any line brought to you
10:17
Speaker 3: apart by Jute Joot security systems protected by Jute dot
10:21
Speaker 3: com or follow them on Facebook. What has been and
10:24
Speaker 3: neither one of you can weigh in on this. Matt,
10:26
Speaker 3: I'll start with you. What has been the reaction to
10:29
Speaker 3: the people that have come into Charleston, as either the
10:31
Speaker 3: racers or people that just happened to be here. What
10:34
Speaker 3: is their take on Charleston Bean Matt.
10:36
Speaker 7: Oh, I think you know, we've gotten nothing but great
10:38
Speaker 7: feedback from the cyclist and the entire cycling community that's
10:41
Speaker 7: been here.
10:42
Speaker 4: I think that's one of the things that has made
10:43
Speaker 4: this so easy is is that.
10:45
Speaker 7: You know, after last year and everybody kind of got
10:47
Speaker 7: to know each other and we got to working. We
10:49
Speaker 7: didn't have a whole lot to actually fix or work
10:52
Speaker 7: on this year because everybody had a good time last year.
10:55
Speaker 4: The cyclist had a blast. They all enjoyed Charleston.
10:58
Speaker 7: There was a little bit compl and I guess the
11:00
Speaker 7: only issue was that maybe the road course was a
11:02
Speaker 7: little too hard, so they've they adjusted that. But other
11:05
Speaker 7: than that, I mean, you know, one of the things
11:06
Speaker 7: that we always gauge too, is we look at people
11:08
Speaker 7: who who own airbnbs or rentals who are work who
11:12
Speaker 7: are with the cyclists, and they talk to them, they
11:15
Speaker 7: get to know them, and they really have enjoyed having
11:17
Speaker 7: the cyclists there, and the cyclists have nothing but great
11:19
Speaker 7: things to say about Charleston. I think that's what we
11:21
Speaker 7: know about Charleston and West Virginia as a whole.
11:24
Speaker 4: Right, if Secretary of Ruby.
11:25
Speaker 7: Was here, and I'm sure Tim winecho like, we know,
11:28
Speaker 7: if we can get people to West Virginia, they're gonna
11:30
Speaker 7: love it. And that's the same thing that happens in Charleston.
11:32
Speaker 7: And I think that is one of the things that,
11:34
Speaker 7: you know, when I think about the excitement of the
11:35
Speaker 7: race and why it's such a big deal, it's because
11:38
Speaker 7: we get to show ourselves off. We get to show
11:39
Speaker 7: ourselves off to people to all across the country who
11:42
Speaker 7: might have an opinion of West Virginia that they read
11:44
Speaker 7: on the internet that they've never actually that they've never
11:46
Speaker 7: actually been.
11:47
Speaker 4: To people when people.
11:48
Speaker 3: Walk out their hotel room and say, now, how far
11:50
Speaker 3: is it to Rona.
11:50
Speaker 7: That's right, yeah, yeah, and it just changes their entire view,
11:54
Speaker 7: and it changes their entire perspective of West Virginia. And
11:56
Speaker 7: I think to you know, to double back on what
11:58
Speaker 7: Tim said about why this is so important. It is
12:01
Speaker 7: extremely important for cycling. It's extremely important to have it,
12:04
Speaker 7: but it's also about the next thing, right, It's about
12:06
Speaker 7: the people who work for USA Cycling, who go back
12:08
Speaker 7: and talk to their counterparts who work in other sports
12:10
Speaker 7: or work in other tours and related activities. It's always
12:13
Speaker 7: about if we can put our best foot forward, what
12:15
Speaker 7: can what else can we get and how can we
12:17
Speaker 7: attract other events like this, maybe one that doesn't close
12:21
Speaker 7: down our streets for seven days. But how can we
12:23
Speaker 7: attract other events that really will continue to.
12:27
Speaker 4: Put Charleston in West Virginia on the map.
12:29
Speaker 7: And that's really part to me, is what the exciting
12:31
Speaker 7: part is is that we get the opportunity to show
12:34
Speaker 7: off our pride in our city, in our state. And
12:35
Speaker 7: anytime you give Charlestonians or West Virginia's a chance to
12:38
Speaker 7: do that, we do it with Gusta.
12:39
Speaker 3: Jim, you want to follow up with that because I'm
12:41
Speaker 3: gonna let you go because I know you got to
12:42
Speaker 3: get back to work. Sutton can hang out here all day,
12:44
Speaker 3: so so go ahead.
12:45
Speaker 9: Yeah. You know, Matt made a great point in talking
12:49
Speaker 9: about this leads us to the next thing. You know,
12:50
Speaker 9: I can draw a straight line. We hosted USA table
12:53
Speaker 9: Tennis for the Junior Pan American Games, which led us
12:57
Speaker 9: to a relationship with USA Volleyball. We hosted the men's
13:01
Speaker 9: Continental Championships here in Charleston, and that relationship is what
13:05
Speaker 9: led us to USA Cycling. And now we have a
13:07
Speaker 9: five year commitment for a massive event that's going to
13:10
Speaker 9: bring tens of thousands of people to our city. So
13:13
Speaker 9: this tees us up for the next thing, and that
13:17
Speaker 9: is the other reason that this is important and one
13:19
Speaker 9: of the reasons that it excites me to host this
13:22
Speaker 9: race because now we're talking about, Okay, what's this is great?
13:25
Speaker 9: What's next? And I think what's next is it's going
13:28
Speaker 9: to be really great stuff. And the other point that
13:33
Speaker 9: Matt made a moment ago about, you know, we didn't
13:34
Speaker 9: have a lot of problems to fix from last year.
13:37
Speaker 9: The great thing about that is it has allowed us
13:39
Speaker 9: then to look at this year and say, Okay, what
13:41
Speaker 9: else can we do? How can we amplify this event?
13:43
Speaker 9: How can we make it more engaging for spectators and locals.
13:48
Speaker 9: You know, we're doing a ton of activity in slack
13:50
Speaker 9: Plaza Thursday through Monday, and partnership with ours Amplified, We're
13:54
Speaker 9: going to have live music five straight days in slack Plaza.
13:57
Speaker 9: The city is hosting live on the Levy on Friday
13:59
Speaker 9: night and injunction with the Evening Criteria. So a successful
14:04
Speaker 9: year one gives us more opportunity in year two because
14:08
Speaker 9: we didn't have a lot to fix, So let's add
14:09

17:37
Speaker 3: It's a pleasure to have you on the show. So
17:39
Speaker 3: how are things going out there from your perspective, because
17:41
Speaker 3: there's there's just a little bit of work that goes
17:43
Speaker 3: into this, you know, for the for the police department.
17:45
Speaker 8: That's that's the rumor, that's the rumor. Yeah, actually, yes,
17:48
Speaker 8: very hard work goes into this for for several months.
17:51
Speaker 8: And I just talked to our our officer who Lieutenant
17:55
Speaker 8: Kevin Oldham, he's the one who's been kind of headlining
17:58
Speaker 8: this thing for the Safety and Secure now spoke with
18:00
Speaker 8: him so far he says everything is going pretty well.
18:03
Speaker 3: Got to Danny Jones from Charleston Mayr's with us in studios. Well,
18:07
Speaker 3: Danny and I are going to talk about some things
18:08
Speaker 3: a little bit later on the show. But Danny, I'm
18:10
Speaker 3: going to go back to your reporter skills here. All right,
18:13
Speaker 3: you just showed up here. What do you got out there?
18:15
Speaker 3: What's what's your eyewitness report?
18:16
Speaker 14: Well, walking over here at fifteen at nine o'clock, you
18:23
Speaker 14: couldn't move east or excuse me, going west on Quarrier
18:27
Speaker 14: Street right there in front of the Alice Building. In
18:30
Speaker 14: the corner of dunbar. They were fighting to see who
18:33
Speaker 14: could turn left, you know what I mean, And it
18:36
Speaker 14: was really difficult. But now it's clear as can be.
18:39
Speaker 3: All right, and Chief, let's talk about that about drivers
18:43
Speaker 3: and patients while this thing is going on. You know,
18:45
Speaker 3: patience is a virtue, but in our modern times, not
18:48
Speaker 3: a lot of us present company included, have it. What
18:51
Speaker 3: would your advice be to people?
18:52
Speaker 8: I agree with you. I think a lot of us
18:54
Speaker 8: do not have the patients. But obviously we would ask
18:57
Speaker 8: everybody to try to take the extra time to get
19:00
Speaker 8: here into town, especially for this whole week, but over
19:05
Speaker 8: the next few days it's going to be pretty busy
19:06
Speaker 8: in the morning, so yes, we asked, We really ask
19:10
Speaker 8: everyone just to be patient, try to allow yourself some
19:12
Speaker 8: extra time to get here. Obviously, our main goals are
19:17
Speaker 8: the safety and security of not just the bicyclist, but
19:20
Speaker 8: motorsts and pedestrians as well, and you can allow yourself
19:22
Speaker 8: some extra time. It'll make it so much easier on everybody,
19:25
Speaker 8: including you. And I'm sure your boss would would glad.
19:28
Speaker 8: You've been glad to be be at work on time,
19:30
Speaker 8: So just just try to exercise patience.
19:33
Speaker 3: Well, and Matt said it a little bit earlier. This
19:34
Speaker 3: is not what it's going to look like for the
19:36
Speaker 3: rest of the week for the most part. I mean,
19:39
Speaker 3: this is I mean the I hate to say the
19:41
Speaker 3: worst of the days, but this is probably going to
19:43
Speaker 3: be one of those where where people come in town
19:46
Speaker 3: are going to be the most impacted at this time
19:48
Speaker 3: of day.
19:48
Speaker 8: That is correct, Yes, today and tomorrow are going to
19:50
Speaker 8: be the busiest in the mornings and then it kind
19:53
Speaker 8: of calms down throughout the mornings the rest of the week.
19:56
Speaker 8: But again, we just asked everybody to exercise patients and
19:59
Speaker 8: try to work with us, and we'll get you there.
20:01
Speaker 8: It just may and may take a few extra minutes.
20:04
Speaker 3: How are you handling the situation with people that do
20:07
Speaker 3: have to work downtown. I mean, you know that they
20:10
Speaker 3: can't call in or whatever they got to get to
20:11
Speaker 3: that downtown law firm or bank or whatever the case
20:14
Speaker 3: may be. I mean, how much work have you have
20:16
Speaker 3: you put into that?
20:17
Speaker 8: Well, First and foremost, we had worked with our media
20:20
Speaker 8: relations folks, especially Tena Stinson and our public information officer,
20:26
Speaker 8: trying to get out the word, let them know the
20:28
Speaker 8: roots that are available and how you can get into
20:31
Speaker 8: town and those who are kind of stuck, you know,
20:35
Speaker 8: on the hotspots, we try to tell them literally physically
20:40
Speaker 8: tell them, hey, you may not be able to go here,
20:42
Speaker 8: but if you go this route, we get you in.
20:44
Speaker 8: So again, if you exercise that time and patience, you
20:48
Speaker 8: can get to work. If you are stuck in traffic,
20:51
Speaker 8: we'll do our best to get there. But obviously safety
20:54
Speaker 8: and security for the bicyclist are is paramount for us.
20:57
Speaker 3: Talk about how from a a parking standpoint, how you're
21:01
Speaker 3: handling things, because I know, Matt you can weigh in
21:04
Speaker 3: on this as well. That parking on the boulevard does
21:06
Speaker 3: a lot of folks that do park on the boulevard.
21:07
Speaker 3: That's pretty much out I think at this at this point,
21:10
Speaker 3: what about We had to out of text actually from
21:12
Speaker 3: a friend of mine prior to the show that worked
21:14
Speaker 3: downtown and he wanted me to ask about about ticket writing.
21:18
Speaker 3: I mean, is that something you've taken into consideration. I mean,
21:21
Speaker 3: obviously if people are blocking the races, that's a different story.
21:24
Speaker 3: But just your your regular parking meter violation chief.
21:29
Speaker 8: We are very taxed. We're very taxed right now with
21:32
Speaker 8: our with our manpower, so normally we don't write a
21:36
Speaker 8: whole lot of parking tickets. That that's up to the
21:38
Speaker 8: parking department. Okay, so I can't really speak for them,
21:40
Speaker 8: but I know, but I know as far as the
21:41
Speaker 8: ausers go, Yeah, we're going to practice some leniency on
21:44
Speaker 8: some of those things unless it's just completely egregious or that's.
21:47
Speaker 3: What people that are you know, moving barrels or you know,
21:51
Speaker 3: barriers or whatever.
21:52
Speaker 4: Matt, Yeah, I mean, the parking department is going to
21:54
Speaker 4: do the same thing.
21:54
Speaker 7: They're going to use their some discretion based on what's
21:58
Speaker 7: going on the time of day and where is you
22:00
Speaker 7: know tomorrow, Tomorrow during midday, there's not going to be
22:03
Speaker 7: a whole lot of closures, so we're going to be
22:04
Speaker 7: enforcing parking. But today they're going to be pretty lenient.
22:07
Speaker 7: And as we get into the weekend where we have
22:08
Speaker 7: the road races, they'll be pretty lenient because their staff
22:11
Speaker 7: is a little bit taxed as well. But I will say,
22:14
Speaker 7: you know, this year, you know, there is no parking
22:15
Speaker 7: on the boulevard, but the boulevard is completely clear this morning,
22:18
Speaker 7: which is you know, a testament to what you've talked
22:21
Speaker 7: about was sort of the outreach that our entire team
22:23
Speaker 7: did to get out and make sure that we didn't
22:25
Speaker 7: have to you know, toe anybody or track down of
22:27
Speaker 7: owners like we did last year. It was completely clear.
22:30
Speaker 7: So I would think today there'll be a lot of
22:32
Speaker 7: discretion given to parking, especially in the downtown area. But
22:36
Speaker 7: as the week gets going on, I wouldn't use it
22:38
Speaker 7: as an excuse to just park wherever you want for
22:40
Speaker 7: however long you want, because we will have to have
22:42
Speaker 7: closures and stuff as it goes on, so we'll have
22:44
Speaker 7: to keep people moving. Most of the parking garages or
22:48
Speaker 7: places you park downtown, you know the rest of this
22:50
Speaker 7: week are going to be easily accessible in the morning.
22:53
Speaker 3: But Dave Iland Chilling five any Live is brought to

23:08
Speaker 3: I've got a text here somebody asking about the Run
23:10
Speaker 3: for the Wall. Now, the Run for the Wall is
23:11
Speaker 3: going to be in Valley Park in Putnam County on Wednesday,
23:14
Speaker 3: night and someone asks how this is going to work
23:16
Speaker 3: with the run through the Wall? Is it actually coming
23:18
Speaker 3: through Charleston though, because it's actually headed to Putnam County.
23:21
Speaker 3: I mean, what's the what's the plan there?
23:22
Speaker 8: Yeah, so their plan usually is to they either stop
23:26
Speaker 8: at Nightro or Valley Park then they make their way
23:29
Speaker 8: here to the capital. So okay, so the respect that, okay,
23:32
Speaker 8: So yeah, so we'll definitely work with getting them through.
23:35
Speaker 8: That's a very important event for us. We like to
23:37
Speaker 8: see them come into town. And I think it especially
23:40
Speaker 8: for a lot of other people, they.
23:41
Speaker 14: Like to a question.
23:42
Speaker 3: Yeah, wall, this is the traveling Vietnam, the Vietnam Memorial Wall.
23:48
Speaker 3: I guess it's it's been, it's in Valley Park. It's
23:51
Speaker 3: kind of as Chief said Danny, it's kind of gone
23:53
Speaker 3: back and forth between Nitro and Valley Park in Hurricane
23:57
Speaker 3: and it's going to be in Hurricane this year. This
23:59
Speaker 3: is the and and a lot of motorcyclists come through.
24:02
Speaker 3: I mean how many how many motorcycles would you would
24:04
Speaker 3: you imagine that there are.
24:06
Speaker 8: One hundreds, if not thousands. There's a lot of people
24:09
Speaker 8: that come in and what they do they hit stopping points,
24:12
Speaker 8: They stop at hurric and stay tonight.
24:14
Speaker 3: They started in California, right, They started all the way
24:16
Speaker 3: on the west. Yeah, they started. They started somewhere on
24:19
Speaker 3: the west coast, and people will kind of join along
24:21
Speaker 3: the way, and then eventually they end up at Arlington, right.
24:24
Speaker 8: At the Vietnam Memorial, right, Yeah, Memorial, A.
24:30
Speaker 9: D C and d C.
24:31
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's where they end up.
24:32
Speaker 2: Danny.
24:32
Speaker 3: So if you wanted to go out and buy a motorcycle,
24:34
Speaker 3: will be a good time to do it, Danny.
24:36
Speaker 14: I don't think so.
24:38
Speaker 3: Did you ever have a motorcycle?
24:39
Speaker 15: Dan?
24:39
Speaker 3: Yes, I was gonna say, I have no doubt you
24:41
Speaker 3: had a motorcycle.
24:41
Speaker 14: Yeah, I had two, and I rode one, uh Philadelphian back.
24:46
Speaker 3: Yeah, and I want to apologize. I was thinking about
24:49
Speaker 3: being in Putnam County. Somebody said it always always comes
24:52
Speaker 3: to Charleston. I wasn't thinking about that. I was talking
24:54
Speaker 3: about the big event over there. But yeah, the texture
24:56
Speaker 3: is absolutely, absolutely right.
25:00
Speaker 7: And to add to that, you know, the chief said
25:02
Speaker 7: that we'll work with them to get them where they need.
25:04
Speaker 4: You know.
25:05
Speaker 7: Part of that too is that you know, we have
25:07
Speaker 7: a obviously the Charleston Police Department, Charleston Fire Department, but
25:10
Speaker 7: we certainly have to thank the Department of Highways with
25:12
Speaker 7: the state for all the work they help us with with.
25:14
Speaker 4: This event as well.
25:14
Speaker 7: I mean, it's a you've got to imagine this takes
25:17
Speaker 7: a whole lot of effort. And you know, I know
25:19
Speaker 7: Chief and Chief Matthews with the fire department. We rely
25:21
Speaker 7: on some outside agency services as well, from the Kenwall
25:24
Speaker 7: County Sheriff's Office, the Kenwall County Amien's Authority, South Charleston
25:28
Speaker 7: Police and Fire and other area police and fires to
25:30
Speaker 7: be on alert and be helpful for you know, if
25:33
Speaker 7: anything is needed, if we have a fire someplace, or
25:35
Speaker 7: we have places where we need officers to help cover
25:38
Speaker 7: the city as well. So it is a it is
25:39
Speaker 7: a complete community effort. It's in Charleston, but this thing
25:43
Speaker 7: stretches all across this region in order to make it happen.
25:47
Speaker 7: So anything we can do to help out others, we're
25:48
Speaker 7: happy to do as well.
25:49
Speaker 3: And we have graduations yes this week.
25:52
Speaker 7: Yeah, we have graduations this week called Sana Convention Center,
25:55
Speaker 7: which you should be pretty good for. If you're coming
25:56
Speaker 7: from the interstate from the seventy nine and seventy seven,
26:00
Speaker 7: I guess you'll be in pretty good shape getting off
26:02
Speaker 7: the exit and being able to get right into the coliseum.
26:04
Speaker 3: Okay, guys, so we had a text about that last week.
26:06
Speaker 3: Everybody's kind of concerned about which is understandable. I mean,
26:08
Speaker 3: you can understand people don't like when you screw with
26:10
Speaker 3: their routines. Man, No, I mean, I think we're all
26:12
Speaker 3: creatures a habit.
26:13
Speaker 7: We drive one way in, one way out our entire lives,
26:16
Speaker 7: and then when that way is blocked, we got to
26:17
Speaker 7: figure out how to get around, and we forget we've
26:19
Speaker 7: lived here most of our lives. It can be confusing,
26:21
Speaker 7: but it really always just it. Probably at most after
26:25
Speaker 7: you get through this morning at three four minute delay,
26:27
Speaker 7: there's not going to be a whole lot.
26:28
Speaker 4: You know, we learned a lot last year.
26:30
Speaker 7: Last year we were overly cautious, which we should have been,
26:32
Speaker 7: and this year we're still overly cautious, but with a
26:34
Speaker 7: little bit more lax in terms of what we learned
26:36
Speaker 7: last year of how we can, let you know, some
26:39
Speaker 7: some hard closures turn into soft closures and stuff like that.
26:42
Speaker 7: It is we learned a lot last year, and the
26:45
Speaker 7: same thing is going to be true with the paracycling.
26:47
Speaker 4: What's happening today This time next.
26:48
Speaker 7: Year won't be happening because we're going to learn something
26:50
Speaker 7: from it and be able to adjust. It's just as
26:53
Speaker 7: Chief said, the safety of the riders and safety of
26:56
Speaker 7: the drivers as well and everybody involved as paramount, and
26:59
Speaker 7: if that means having wait a couple extra minutes, that's
27:01
Speaker 7: worth it to make sure everybody get through safely and
27:04
Speaker 7: allow us to learn as we get we get going
27:06
Speaker 7: in the week.
27:06
Speaker 4: In the years with this, because this is just year two,
27:09
Speaker 4: we got three more after this.
27:11
Speaker 3: So we spent a lot of time talking about folks
27:13
Speaker 3: coming into downtown Charleston for appointments or to go to
27:16
Speaker 3: work or whatever. Let's talk about the residential neighborhoods because
27:19
Speaker 3: there's some folks up in South Hills and places like that.
27:21
Speaker 3: It's going to impact them as well, and a lot
27:25
Speaker 3: of work has gone into that.
27:26
Speaker 8: Chief Yeah, and it's pretty much the same thing. We
27:29
Speaker 8: were trying our best to get it out, you know,
27:32
Speaker 8: get the information out early on. That way people are
27:35
Speaker 8: aware and they know when things are being shut down
27:38
Speaker 8: and how things are being shut down. And again, we
27:41
Speaker 8: just don't want to keep people home. If they need
27:43
Speaker 8: to get out and about, well, we'll definitely work with
27:45
Speaker 8: them as best we can, and we just ask for patients.
27:48
Speaker 7: Matt, Yeah, I mean it's the same things we had
27:51
Speaker 7: last year. You know that when we were first envisioned
27:54
Speaker 7: this in our mind, especially in the residential neighborhoods, we
27:56
Speaker 7: assumed we were gonna have streets shut down for an
27:58
Speaker 7: entire day. But once you look at the race and
28:00
Speaker 7: you talk with the race folks, and you realize that
28:02
Speaker 7: these folks, the writers, are traveling impacts, so as the
28:05
Speaker 7: pack goes along, it's going to take them several minutes
28:08
Speaker 7: before they get back to that area. So we're able
28:10
Speaker 7: to open the streets back up and let people drive through.
28:12
Speaker 7: We just asked that residents listen to the police officers
28:17
Speaker 7: or or.
28:17
Speaker 4: The volunteers that are there. I know we're using our.
28:19
Speaker 7: NAO officers for a lot of things, and even volunteers
28:22
Speaker 7: with the race staff, but really it's going to be.
28:24
Speaker 4: A few minute delay.
28:25
Speaker 7: There are very very few hard closures in the residential
28:29
Speaker 7: areas and those have all been put out there. I mean,
28:31
Speaker 7: I think the communication work that you've talked about is true.
28:34
Speaker 7: You know, we had a slam packed morning. Sorry, at
28:37
Speaker 7: about eight thirty eight o'clock, eight thirty this morning. Well
28:40
Speaker 7: that's because we taught everybody to get in before nine,
28:42
Speaker 7: and everybody tried and it just took a little bit
28:44
Speaker 7: more time. But as I said, the teen of this morning,
28:46
Speaker 7: we at least people listen. I mean they listened to
28:48
Speaker 7: what we said, which was to try to get in
28:51
Speaker 7: before nine. And I think that that that that worked
28:53
Speaker 7: out well, even though yes, the traffic was there, Getting
28:57
Speaker 7: people in and getting everybody safe is key. But as
29:00
Speaker 7: us the week goes, it's really going to be a
29:02
Speaker 7: few minute delay that you'll have to wait. But then
29:05
Speaker 7: we ask and we beg don't try to make up
29:08
Speaker 7: that few minutes by driving faster, because you might run
29:10
Speaker 7: into another stop, or you might run into another area
29:12
Speaker 7: where you got to slow down, especially in the residential neighborhoods.
29:15
Speaker 7: Like let's just it's you know it is. It is
29:18
Speaker 7: some inconvenience and I appreciate that and know it. But
29:21
Speaker 7: you know, as what Tim and I were talking about earlier,
29:23
Speaker 7: I think for the folks in Charleston to realize what
29:25
Speaker 7: we're what you're part of, and what we're able to
29:27
Speaker 7: do if we can, you know, do what we did
29:29
Speaker 7: last year and have an event that is that is
29:31
Speaker 7: fairly incident free, uh, and be able to show these folks,
29:34
Speaker 7: you know, our best foot forward terms of our patients
29:36
Speaker 7: and our support. And we're just going to keep getting
29:38
Speaker 7: larger events and we're going to keep keep getting these
29:40
Speaker 7: type of folks in to have the excitement because there
29:42
Speaker 7: is a lot of excitement in fun around us. There
29:44
Speaker 7: is a few minute delay in traffic, but there's a
29:46
Speaker 7: lot going on in town to enjoy as well.
29:48
Speaker 8: And David, if I could add to that, not only
29:51
Speaker 8: do we have the USA Cyclist here, but it also
29:53
Speaker 8: brings out people who want to get on their bikes.
29:55
Speaker 8: You know, if they live here, if they visit here,
29:57
Speaker 8: they also want to get on their bikes just to
29:59
Speaker 8: kind of be involved, Yeah, and get around. It does
30:01
Speaker 8: make it easier to get around, So we asked people
30:03
Speaker 8: to really watch what you're doing when you're driving because
30:07
Speaker 8: there's going to be extra bicyclists out in the residential
30:10
Speaker 8: areas in the normal other city areas. And as I
30:13
Speaker 8: was coming in this morning to your station, I noticed
30:16
Speaker 8: one of the paracyclists that was on one of the
30:20
Speaker 8: roads that were not blocked off. They're very hard to
30:22
Speaker 8: see because they sit really low to the ground and
30:26
Speaker 8: you can see their flag, which is usually bright orange
30:29
Speaker 8: or bright yellow or green. So again we just tell
30:31
Speaker 8: people just pay attention, take your time, move slow, and
30:35
Speaker 8: give them the right of way if they can.
30:37
Speaker 3: I had a text here that said, you know how
30:38
Speaker 3: the saw the graduation situation. Have them at the schools
30:41
Speaker 3: like all of us had not downtown.
30:44
Speaker 4: Well, that's a different guests for that.
30:47
Speaker 14: Yeah, yeah, that's not true. I've graduated before some people
30:51
Speaker 14: were born, and I graduated at Civic Center. Okay, well,
30:55
Speaker 14: and Jared graduates to thirty from the Civic Center.
30:59
Speaker 3: We're cool, man Son, all right, Chief and well, Chief
31:04
Speaker 3: and chief. I guess I know you guys have got
31:06
Speaker 3: to take off.
31:06
Speaker 4: We're gonna be.
31:07
Speaker 3: Hearing from you throughout the week. Anytime you want to
31:09
Speaker 3: come in, just stop by the studio, give me a
31:11
Speaker 3: text or whatever. Just just walk on in. I mean,
31:13
Speaker 3: you're a police officer. You pretty much wuch you want.
31:15
Speaker 3: All right, So Matt, any final one, ye.
31:18
Speaker 7: I think if you, if you can, please please follow
31:20
Speaker 7: the City Charleston on Facebook and throughout social media, and
31:24
Speaker 7: and it is it is as up to minute alerts
31:26
Speaker 7: and that we can provide out there that we can
31:29
Speaker 7: get moving forward. You know, we're doing a great job
31:31
Speaker 7: setting out communication. You know, I had a friend of
31:34
Speaker 7: mine who was complaining about that the emails were too long,
31:37
Speaker 7: but then he didn't know where to go, and I said, well,
31:38
Speaker 7: then read the email like I mean, and you know,
31:40
Speaker 7: read the information that's being provided to you. And make
31:43
Speaker 7: sure you're following social media because if there are changes,
31:45
Speaker 7: we'll we'll update it in real time so that people
31:47
Speaker 7: can get to where they want to get. And again
31:49
Speaker 7: we just you know, for this first few days, beg
31:52
Speaker 7: patience and understanding and getting things going. And then as
31:56
Speaker 7: we get into this week, come Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday,
31:59
Speaker 7: come down to go up the South Hills to watch
32:01
Speaker 7: the race, Go to Warts Avenue and get some fish
32:03
Speaker 7: from Minni Leonard. Go out and enjoy this and show
32:07
Speaker 7: the pride and Charleston that we have, but really just
32:09
Speaker 7: enjoy the enjoy the time. These are world class athletes
32:12
Speaker 7: and we won't We don't get to see this very often.
32:14
Speaker 7: Most people don't have this opportunity, so make sure you
32:17
Speaker 7: take advantage of it and come out, whether you're downtown
32:19
Speaker 7: or in your neighborhood, or you go to one of
32:21
Speaker 7: the watch parties on Wartz or South Hills.
32:23
Speaker 4: You know, make sure you have some fun with it.
32:25
Speaker 4: It's going to be a good time.
32:26
Speaker 8: Chief, I feel what he's saying. It is going to
32:29
Speaker 8: be a good time. We love to have these events.
32:31
Speaker 8: The police department loves a good challenge for vehicles, traffic
32:36
Speaker 8: and pedestrian traffic, so we're always up for it. But
32:39
Speaker 8: you know, these events in the city just it makes
32:41
Speaker 8: everything vibrant and we're just gonad to be a part
32:43
Speaker 8: of it.
32:43
Speaker 3: All right, guys, appreciate you both being here. Thanks a lot,
32:47
Speaker 3: Good luck out there, be careful out there, absolutely all right.

35:06
Speaker 3: That they had a text here from someone that said,
35:08
Speaker 3: you're coming downtown. If it all possible, just take the interstate.
35:11
Speaker 3: That's what I did coming from Putnam County this morning,
35:14
Speaker 3: and I just just stayed on the interstates and got
35:17
Speaker 3: off on Leon Sullivan Way and had pretty much straight
35:19
Speaker 3: shot here to where I am. Doesn't do you any
35:22
Speaker 3: good if you're down the street a little bit, but
35:23
Speaker 3: I'm saying where I am Danny Jones is hanging out
35:26
Speaker 3: with this morning, good morning, exciting stuff man in Charleston.
35:30
Speaker 14: This good stuff bring people in, put some heads and
35:33
Speaker 14: some beds.
35:34
Speaker 3: Heads and beds, man heads and beds, and people dining
35:38
Speaker 3: in the restaurants and staying in the hotels and airbnbs
35:40
Speaker 3: and so on and so forth. And that's the thing
35:43
Speaker 3: I like about this event too. Like a lot of
35:45
Speaker 3: other events, Danny's, this is not just a Charleston event.
35:48
Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, this is where everything's taking place. But
35:50
Speaker 3: you've got hotels in Huntington, in Barbersville, up the Elkview
35:55
Speaker 3: to Tay's Valley that they are all books solid right
35:57
Speaker 3: now because of these things. And it helps out the
36:00
Speaker 3: local economy. And yet and it's not only the writers, man,
36:03
Speaker 3: I mean, this thing is always being documented world cycling
36:07
Speaker 3: magazines are here and online, it's all being filmed. It'll
36:10
Speaker 3: be streamed somewhere. So this is a pretty big deal
36:13
Speaker 3: for Charleston.
36:14
Speaker 4: It really is.
36:14
Speaker 14: It really is.
36:15
Speaker 3: The news came out Danny switching gears here yesterday that
36:18
Speaker 3: former President Joe Biden has a very aggressive form of
36:22
Speaker 3: prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is something that you know a
36:27
Speaker 3: lot about you're a prostate cancer survivor. The prognosis considering
36:33
Speaker 3: how far along this is from the former president, and
36:35
Speaker 3: it's now spread to his bones, they say, and his age,
36:39
Speaker 3: it's the prognosis is not is really not good, Danny Well.
36:44
Speaker 14: I was reading at the time this morning, and they
36:47
Speaker 14: had some guy that says he might be able to
36:49
Speaker 14: live three to five to seven years. And I'm not
36:53
Speaker 14: seeing that. Once it gets in the bones. To keep
36:58
Speaker 14: him alive, they're gonna have to do some radical chemotherapy
37:03
Speaker 14: and some radiation. And if you think he looked bad before,
37:09
Speaker 14: he's really gonna look bad. And that's why in twenty twelve,
37:15
Speaker 14: since I had my kids late in life, I thought
37:18
Speaker 14: i'd have mine removed so i'd be alive now, because
37:24
Speaker 14: there's a good chance I wouldn't have made it. In
37:27
Speaker 14: other words, I had to cancer in twenty twelve, I
37:29
Speaker 14: might have made it ten years.
37:32
Speaker 3: What was the you can share as little or as
37:35
Speaker 3: much as you want. What was your treatment?
37:38
Speaker 2: Like?
37:39
Speaker 14: Painful? Very painful? And then I had to spend two
37:43
Speaker 14: weeks at home and people came and visited me.
37:47
Speaker 3: And you're still running a city at that time, too.
37:49
Speaker 8: Yes, I just.
37:51
Speaker 14: Stayed at home and worked the phone, and I remember
37:56
Speaker 14: the people that came to visit me. It was just
37:58
Speaker 14: kind of nice. You know. I sit there and watch
38:02
Speaker 14: I'd never watched pond Stars before I got kind of
38:05
Speaker 14: hooked on pond Stars. But it's very painful. The kind
38:13
Speaker 14: I had. What I would recommend if you can do
38:18
Speaker 14: it is the seed and that's the least invasive, and
38:25
Speaker 14: they do it and wheeling, and I have friends that
38:28
Speaker 14: do it. And you're you come back almost whole, almost
38:32
Speaker 14: completely whole.
38:33
Speaker 3: And you were given a complete clean bill of health.
38:35
Speaker 14: Oh yeah, I don't have any cancer.
38:37
Speaker 3: Now do you have to go back? I mean obviously,
38:40
Speaker 3: I mean you go back when when we get to
38:42
Speaker 3: be a certain age myself included, you have to go
38:44
Speaker 3: for the tests and so on and so forth. But
38:47
Speaker 3: as part of what you went through, then do you
38:49
Speaker 3: have like an elevated risk for currents or I guess
38:53
Speaker 3: you keep you.
38:54
Speaker 14: Not since I took it out right, Okay, if I'd
38:56
Speaker 14: had radiation, then it could have it could have come back.
39:01
Speaker 3: But a violand showing five Dyeline brought to you apart
39:03

39:12
Speaker 14: Anybody can get cancer, yeah, in any part of your body.
39:15
Speaker 14: Yeah yeah, and uh get leukemia. You can, uh, you
39:22
Speaker 14: can get cancer anywhere. And so when you get my age,
39:26
Speaker 14: you know, I'll be seventy five in August, and you
39:29
Speaker 14: don't know. I mean, it could, it could raise its
39:32
Speaker 14: head anywhere.
39:34
Speaker 3: And of course, sadly this is where we are right now.
39:37
Speaker 3: Everything is political, including this. The statement came sometime I
39:41
Speaker 3: guess late yesterday afternoon something like this when I first
39:44
Speaker 3: got an alert about it from one of the news
39:45
Speaker 3: services on my phone, and immediately and I'm trying not
39:51
Speaker 3: to be too negative here, Danny, but everybody takes it
39:55
Speaker 3: and runs with it as far as the political aspect
39:57
Speaker 3: of it. And then your social media feed pops up
40:00
Speaker 3: with well, regardless of how how you feel, whether you
40:03
Speaker 3: supported former President Biden or didn't, he needs thoughts and prayers,
40:06
Speaker 3: and that's followed, which I agree with. Then that's followed
40:10
Speaker 3: by well, fill in blank here because of the open border,
40:14
Speaker 3: how many people has been in this like I mean
40:16
Speaker 3: we are we freaking serious right now, but that's just
40:19
Speaker 3: where we are.
40:20
Speaker 14: Yeah, he will, this is not going to be of
40:24
Speaker 14: course I didn't have to do chemo, but they say
40:28
Speaker 14: that's not fun either.
40:29
Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
40:30
Speaker 3: I actually worked with a gentleman that he was a
40:34
Speaker 3: few years older than I was, that went through prostate
40:36
Speaker 3: cancer at a radio station, and he did the chemo
40:40
Speaker 3: and really he really struggled with that aspect of it,
40:44
Speaker 3: I think more than the disease itself. And he later
40:47
Speaker 3: told us and since passed, he said, if I had
40:50
Speaker 3: to do it over again, I wouldn't have taken the therapy.
40:52
Speaker 3: I wouldn't have taken the chemo.
40:53
Speaker 14: Just let it run.
40:54
Speaker 4: Yeah.
40:55
Speaker 14: Well, I I'll say this much. I'm pretty transparent guy.
41:04
Speaker 14: I had trouble going to the bathroom, and I would
41:08
Speaker 14: remember flomax.
41:10
Speaker 3: Yeah I had heard that term in a while.
41:12
Speaker 14: But yeah, I was taken two a day just so
41:14
Speaker 14: i'd go to the bathroom. And so I had to
41:18
Speaker 14: do something right, Yeah, because it's it's you feel like
41:22
Speaker 14: you have to go to the bathroom and then you can't, right,
41:24
Speaker 14: So it's it's not very comfortable. So and if you
41:29
Speaker 14: reach eighty five, two out of three men get it.
41:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, it's just it's yeah, it's it's it's a
41:35
Speaker 3: sad fact of life.
41:36
Speaker 14: One last thing. Yeah, most people die with it, and
41:39
Speaker 14: and Biden could die with it. It may not kill him,
41:44
Speaker 14: he could die some other way. I mean, guy's eighty
41:46
Speaker 14: two years old.
41:47
Speaker 3: What do you make of And again, I almost feel
41:51
Speaker 3: bad bringing this up following the diagnosis, But this is
41:53
Speaker 3: what I was going to talk to you about before
41:57
Speaker 3: his cancer diagnosis came out yesterday. Now, the book you know,
42:00
Speaker 3: that's been written by Jake Tapper and others, and it
42:03
Speaker 3: was all the talk on all of the Sunday morning shows.
42:05
Speaker 3: I was watching yesterday Your thoughts.
42:08
Speaker 14: I do audio books. Yeah, I ordered it a week ago,
42:12
Speaker 14: so I'll be listening to it this week. I'll get
42:15
Speaker 14: it down this week and maybe I'll come in and
42:18
Speaker 14: do a review for you.
42:19
Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll talk about it next week. So, I mean,
42:22
Speaker 3: overall and a lot of people, Danny c. It is
42:25
Speaker 3: very hypocritical that Jake Tapper was one of the authors
42:28
Speaker 3: of this book considering and I have not seen it yet,
42:32
Speaker 3: but a friend of mine this morning was telling me
42:34
Speaker 3: that there is a clip on YouTube of all of
42:36
Speaker 3: the ways that Jake Tapper from CNN, like a two
42:41
Speaker 3: minute clip or so. And again I haven't seen it,
42:43
Speaker 3: but it was like a two minute clip of him
42:46
Speaker 3: saying the president is okay, and he was complicit in
42:50
Speaker 3: the cover up.
42:51
Speaker 14: So I don't know about that. He was. He's an anchor.
42:55
Speaker 14: He stays in the studio. He didn't go out and
42:59
Speaker 14: do reporting. He didn't see the guy.
43:01
Speaker 3: But on the clip, and again I probably shouldn't have
43:03
Speaker 3: brought it up till I actually, but a friend of
43:06
Speaker 3: mine and I'll get it and I'll try to send
43:07
Speaker 3: it to you said that. On the clip. It's all
43:09
Speaker 3: the ways of him saying, you know, he's find the president's.
43:14

43:32
Speaker 14: Last sixty eight months, last three to four years. Yeah,
43:35
Speaker 14: when he first got in office, I was in here
43:38
Speaker 14: a lot more often. I said he's infirm, he wasn't

Speaker 3: this is kind of sad where we are. TEXTA says,
47:40
Speaker 3: yes it is. Look at all the cheers of Trump
47:42
Speaker 3: being shot and the outrage that the shooter failed. So yes,
47:46
Speaker 3: this is where we are. That's a great point. That's
47:49
Speaker 3: a great point. I mean, I guess I missed out
47:51
Speaker 3: on that Oh no, it was all over the night
47:53

47:54
Speaker 14: People dead.
47:55
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, absolutely, people because this is where we are now,
47:58
Speaker 3: and everything is you know, everybody communicates now through a

48:29
Speaker 3: Biden took more time off than any other US president

48:44
Speaker 14: Now, No, I think he liked the beach, and I
48:48
Speaker 14: think he I think he liked being.
48:51
Speaker 3: Well, let's keep in mind that our current president spends
48:53
Speaker 3: a whole lot of time at mar Lagotic practically every weekend.
48:56
Speaker 14: He does. But he's pretty visible David. Yeah, I mean
48:59
Speaker 14: I give Trump credit for that.
49:01
Speaker 3: Oh, I agree.
49:03
Speaker 14: As far as the media goes, he's an omni president.
49:05
Speaker 3: Yeah, he's too, he's two omnipresence.
49:07
Speaker 10: Yeah.
49:08
Speaker 14: And as far as the plane goes, they gave the
49:13
Speaker 14: plane to the Defense Department. There's nothing that says the
49:18
Speaker 14: Defense Department has to give it to his library. We're
49:22
Speaker 14: not signing any His administration can't sign any kind of
49:26
Speaker 14: deal like that because once it belonged to the Defense Department,
49:29
Speaker 14: belongs to the Defense Department. Now if he does a
49:32
Speaker 14: library and does it and lets the federal government run it,
49:39
Speaker 14: then he could he possibly could get that plane. When
49:43
Speaker 14: Richard Nixon did his library in ninety three, he was
49:46
Speaker 14: still he was still alive. He died in ninety four,
49:50
Speaker 14: and the girls they raised all the money for it,
49:53
Speaker 14: and until twenty ten it was running on private funds
49:56
Speaker 14: and didn't have a paid employee. And I went there
49:59
Speaker 14: several time. Now the federal government takes it over, the
50:02
Speaker 14: first thing to do is build a watergate wing. Okay,
50:06
Speaker 14: so there was there's more wings, and some of the
50:09
Speaker 14: stuff that I used to enjoy is not there now.
50:12
Speaker 14: And you can't go into the house where he was
50:15
Speaker 14: born the little house where he was born in California.
50:18
Speaker 14: He was born in the house his father belt. That
50:21
Speaker 14: house was there, but you can't go in it anymore.
50:23
Speaker 3: You see the story on the news speaking of houses,
50:25
Speaker 3: that the house that the Pope, Pope Leo grew up
50:29
Speaker 3: in in Chicago sold, I think I want to say
50:33
Speaker 3: it sold for like sixty five thousand dollars, like you know,
50:36
Speaker 3: four or five years ago, well over two hundred thousand now,
50:39
Speaker 3: and you could expect that, I guess.
50:41
Speaker 13: So.
50:41
Speaker 3: So getting back to the plane in Trump, Okay, you
50:44
Speaker 3: gotta admit, though, Danny, it it does. It's not good optics, man,
50:49
Speaker 3: it's not good optics.
50:50
Speaker 14: Okay, I'll go there. I mean NBS is you know,
51:01
Speaker 14: he's not. He's not exactly the most reputable person Muhammed
51:09
Speaker 14: Bence whatever his last name is, I mean, yet killed
51:13
Speaker 14: that Washington Post reporter.
51:15
Speaker 20: So no one ever gave you a plane, Danny, No, No,
51:23
Speaker 20: I had a until I had a child.
51:26
Speaker 14: When I was sheriff, I drove an old police car.
51:29
Speaker 14: But once we had children and I was starting to
51:32
Speaker 14: take them to school, I got rid of the car
51:35
Speaker 14: and bought myself a vehicle to drive.
51:39
Speaker 3: I heard you. I saw you on with Rick Johnson
51:41
Speaker 3: on Inside Politics talking about the fifty nine Cadillac that
51:43
Speaker 3: I still haven't seen yet. Oh it's so badly and
51:47
Speaker 3: the Nomad too well, the Nomad is going to cost
51:52
Speaker 3: you a fortune, is what I don't care about that.
51:53
Speaker 14: I want it done, so all right.
