- 0:46Speaker 1: breaking news stories here, Trey, Yeah, go ahead. First of all,
- 1:00Speaker 1: Bob Horner has died. The winner of the first ever
- 1:03Speaker 1: Golden Spikes Award, led Arizona State to the College World
- 1:09Speaker 1: Series championship. Spent nine of his ten Major League seasons
- 1:14Speaker 1: with the Braves. Hit four home runs in a game,
- 1:18Speaker 1: top the thirty home run mark three times in four years,
- 1:24Speaker 1: help lead the Braves to Division title ten days after
- 1:28Speaker 1: being drafted, made his Major League debut and hit a
- 1:31Speaker 1: home run off Burt Blyleven had twenty three that year
- 1:36Speaker 1: and won the nl Rookie of the Year. Bob Horner
- 1:40Speaker 1: was just sixty eight. Also, the NCAA has denied Texas
- 1:47Speaker 1: Tech quarterback Bredon Swersby's request for reinstatement of eligibility. Texas
- 1:53Speaker 1: Tech says it will appeal the ruling. We believe that
- 1:59Speaker 1: given the facts and the context of Brendan's case, the
- 2:01Speaker 1: NCAA's really should be reversed or modified, according to President
- 2:06Speaker 1: Lawrence Chauvenich. In Lubbock, Sowersby has completed a thirty five
- 2:12Speaker 1: day in patient rehab for gambling addiction is set to
- 2:17Speaker 1: return to campus soon. As a court date next week
- 2:24Speaker 1: in Lubbock County, he will undergo outpatient clinical care as
- 2:31Speaker 1: well acknowledging wagering on sports, including his own team. His
- 2:37Speaker 1: freshman year at Indiana, he had filed for an injunction
- 2:41Speaker 1: that would have allowed him to play for Texas Tech.
- 2:45Speaker 1: And we'll see what happens in court. But the NCAA
- 2:51Speaker 1: right now says no. Aggie Baseball preparing for a regional
- 2:56Speaker 1: at Olson Field that will begin Friday afternoon at three o'clock.
- 3:01Speaker 1: We will carry that game for you here on the zone.
- 3:04Speaker 1: We will not have a sports talk on Friday, and
- 3:08Speaker 1: Ryan is just begging to be on the air, so
- 3:11Speaker 1: he's going to replace me on Thursday. And Kurt Bowles
- 3:16Speaker 1: has been at the SEC spring meetings in Destin and
- 3:21Speaker 1: we will have him on Thursday afternoon. So phone the
- 3:26Speaker 1: neighbors and wake the kids. A m will take on Lamar.
- 3:32Speaker 1: In the second game. Texas State will play USC, So
- 3:39Speaker 1: you got that going and Lamar. Their head coach is
- 3:43Speaker 1: Will Davis and he has done really well. He won
- 3:47Speaker 1: the Southland Championship this year. That's why Lamar is going
- 3:51Speaker 1: to be here at olson Field. D One Sports is
- 3:55Speaker 1: reporting he's going to be the new head coach at
- 3:58Speaker 1: the University of Houston. The Astros and Rangers played game
- 4:06Speaker 1: two of their series in Arlington tonight. Last night. Three
- 4:11Speaker 1: pitchers you've never heard of combined to no hit the Rangers,
- 4:18Speaker 1: who may or may not have hit rock bottom last
- 4:22Speaker 1: night in Arlington. To go with that no hitter, they
- 4:28Speaker 1: had two errors as well. They have not pitched the ball,
- 4:34Speaker 1: hit the ball, or caught the ball so far this season.
- 4:40Speaker 1: As a result, they're five games under five hundred, which
- 4:43Speaker 1: is quite remarkable that they're only five games under five hundred.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Globe Life has now had three no hitters since it
- 4:56Speaker 1: opened in twenty twenty. The three no hitters within four
- 5:02Speaker 1: hundred and fifty seven regular season games are the most
- 5:06Speaker 1: for a single venue in a span of time since
- 5:09Speaker 1: Oakland in nineteen seventy three. There you go, It's there's
- 5:22Speaker 1: lots of ugly stats. If you wanted to continue on
- 5:27Speaker 1: the Texas Rangers, there are a lot of good stats
- 5:31Speaker 1: for the Houston Astros. They send Jason George Costanzas Alexander
- 5:42Speaker 1: to the mound tonight against Jack Leider. You can hear
- 5:46Speaker 1: that game here on the Zone beginning at six thirty five.
- 5:52Speaker 1: NHL Stanley Cup Western Conference Finals, the Golden Knights the
- 5:59Speaker 1: veg have a chance to sweep away the Colorado Avalanche
- 6:05Speaker 1: Game four tonight. The Knights have won the first three
- 6:10Speaker 1: games of that series. Last night, Montreal fell in overtime
- 6:17Speaker 1: to Carolina three to two. They trail the series two
- 6:20Speaker 1: games to one. They're back in Montreal tomorrow night. I
- 6:24Speaker 1: will say again, if you want to see a fan
- 6:29Speaker 1: base that is out of their minds, Rabbid, watch a
- 6:34Speaker 1: little of the Montreal Canadians. That is an unbelievable atmosphere.
- 6:44Speaker 1: They're holding the Spring SEC meetings in Destin, Florida this week.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Mike Elko talked to reporters today. He said, none of
- 6:56Speaker 1: us are answering for the good of the sport. We're
- 6:58Speaker 1: answering for the good of our If we don't find
- 7:01Speaker 1: a way to create some level of regulation in the market,
- 7:04Speaker 1: a lot of people are going to go bankrupt pretty quick. Uh,
- 7:10Speaker 1: a voice of region reason. But he's a head coach.
- 7:14Speaker 1: He didn't get to make decisions. Nobody who gets to
- 7:18Speaker 1: make decisions has been a voice of reason for college
- 7:22Speaker 1: sports in quite a while. The good news is they're
- 7:26Speaker 1: all for the student athletes. Everything is for the student athlete. Okay,
- 7:34Speaker 1: I'm going to play a couple of interviews right now
- 7:37Speaker 1: in honor of the great Stevie Nicks. The first I
- 7:40Speaker 1: did with Mark Blake, who wrote a book on Fleetwood
- 7:47Speaker 1: Mac Mark, How are you?
- 7:50Speaker 3: Oh right?
- 7:50Speaker 4: Hey?
- 7:51Speaker 1: Dan hit good to Yeah, thank you so much? He
- 7:55Speaker 1: Ja don't I'm not sure that you you had enough
- 7:58Speaker 1: time to write about think that this band has done
- 8:03Speaker 1: over the years, But by dollar, you did it. Congratulations.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Well, I don't know, yeah, Yeah, there's a lot there.
- 8:10Speaker 3: There's a lot there.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Isn't yeah, there is a lot there. I mean, this
- 8:15Speaker 1: is a band that has played out in public for
- 8:17Speaker 1: fifty years. What did you learn new about them that
- 8:20Speaker 1: maybe you didn't already know when you started the project.
- 8:24Speaker 5: I think how lucky they were. I mean think so
- 8:28Speaker 5: many of these things in their career happened by a
- 8:31Speaker 5: lucky accident, like Mick Fleet with discovering Stevie Nicks and
- 8:34Speaker 5: Lindsay Buckingham simply because he happened to be in the
- 8:37Speaker 5: studio where they were working, just on by chance. You know,
- 8:41Speaker 5: he's in a grocery store doing his shopping, bumps into
- 8:44Speaker 5: buy he knows, invites him to check out the studio.
- 8:48Speaker 5: They happen to be there. Next thing, they joined the
- 8:50Speaker 5: band and you're selling millions of records. But that's not
- 8:53Speaker 5: the only time it happened, you know, right at the
- 8:55Speaker 5: beginning of their career, Mick Fleet would get to a
- 8:57Speaker 5: gig because Peter Green, the original Guitars, brings him up
- 9:00Speaker 5: as we're starting a band. He thinks his music career
- 9:04Speaker 5: is over before it's even begun. So it's a lot
- 9:06Speaker 5: of happy accidents.
- 9:09Speaker 1: It is mixed. The defining member is he the one
- 9:15Speaker 1: that's kind of, for lack of a better term, held
- 9:18Speaker 1: things together all these years.
- 9:20Speaker 5: Absolutely, because after Peter Green left, he still of became
- 9:24Speaker 5: he almost became like the facto manager.
- 9:26Speaker 3: He was their manager.
- 9:28Speaker 5: They fired him, the band fired him as their manager
- 9:30Speaker 5: because he spent too much money, but he obviously stayed
- 9:33Speaker 5: on as their drama So the whole relationship was completely
- 9:37Speaker 5: damaged from the beginning.
- 9:38Speaker 3: But he is.
- 9:39Speaker 5: He's a cheerleader for Fleetwood Mac. He's their number one fan.
- 9:43Speaker 5: He's tireless, you know, he believes in the band. You know,
- 9:46Speaker 5: in whichever nation.
- 9:48Speaker 1: There's there's so many iterations of this band. How how
- 9:52Speaker 1: unusual is it to have so many members over the years,
- 9:57Speaker 1: But yet with every group of musicians they're popular.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Well, yeah they are. It's kind of unique, isn't it.
- 10:06Speaker 3: I mean, is there's a period they start off as
- 10:08Speaker 3: an English band, they're an English blues band. They're successful.
- 10:13Speaker 5: Then it kind of goes off the boil for a
- 10:15Speaker 5: little bit, but then they get an American guitar player
- 10:17Speaker 5: in called Bob Welch.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Now they made a few records with Bob which aren't
- 10:22Speaker 3: huge hits.
- 10:22Speaker 5: But they were still relatively big at the time, and
- 10:25Speaker 5: that's when they toured America.
- 10:26Speaker 3: That's when they spent more time in America.
- 10:29Speaker 5: Then of course it takes off into the stratosphere with
- 10:31Speaker 5: Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nick.
- 10:33Speaker 3: So yeah, they've had success.
- 10:36Speaker 5: I think there's only a brief period in the early
- 10:38Speaker 5: nineties when it really sunk, kind of to a commercial
- 10:42Speaker 5: low where it was Fleet with Mac in name only really,
- 10:46Speaker 5: but then they pulled it back again in the mid
- 10:48Speaker 5: nineties when they got the old band back together.
- 10:51Speaker 1: You know, I think it's just been within the last
- 10:55Speaker 1: couple of weeks. You can correct me if I'm wrong
- 10:57Speaker 1: that Stevie did this role of Stone interview and she's
- 11:03Speaker 1: she has been pretty relentless on pushing Lindsey Buckingham out,
- 11:09Speaker 1: hows she not?
- 11:10Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I believe so.
- 11:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:12Speaker 5: I mean that was the case, you know, originally, which
- 11:15Speaker 5: is why the last Fleet with Mac Too was without
- 11:18Speaker 5: Lindsay Buckingham. I think it's a difficult situation because I
- 11:22Speaker 5: think he made that band musically, songwriter, as a producer,
- 11:26Speaker 5: co producer, as a songwriter, as a guitar player, he
- 11:30Speaker 5: defined the sound of those huge hit albums.
- 11:33Speaker 3: But Stevie Nix is the front person. She is the
- 11:36Speaker 3: one out the front, you know, she is the one selling.
- 11:39Speaker 5: And there's something Lindsay Buckingham said in an interview that
- 11:42Speaker 5: I did with him a few years ago. He said,
- 11:44Speaker 5: as long as Stevie Nix is there, people don't notice
- 11:46Speaker 5: who's missing.
- 11:48Speaker 3: And that is very honest of him. But it's the truth.
- 11:51Speaker 5: I'd love to have seen them working together because I
- 11:53Speaker 5: don't think they're anywhere near as good when he's not there.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Yes, but it's Stevie Nix, it's Fleetwood Mac.
- 12:00Speaker 1: So when when you look at all these iterations, I
- 12:06Speaker 1: still and again maybe it was because it happened over
- 12:10Speaker 1: the longest period of time when you had John mcveee,
- 12:13Speaker 1: Christine Fleetwood next Lindsey Buckingham. To me, that's what I
- 12:19Speaker 1: think of when I think of Fleetwood Mac. Do you
- 12:22Speaker 1: think most people do?
- 12:24Speaker 3: Oh?
- 12:24Speaker 5: Absolutely, of course, totally hundred That is that the big
- 12:29Speaker 5: line up, the rumors Fleetwood Matt White album that period,
- 12:33Speaker 5: that that that's the one for most people. And you know,
- 12:36Speaker 5: but I think to get to that you had to
- 12:38Speaker 5: go through all this other stuff, which is which I've
- 12:40Speaker 5: written about in the book and also the other that
- 12:42Speaker 5: goes on on the other side, which I think is
- 12:44Speaker 5: fascinating as well. So it didn't they didn't exist in
- 12:48Speaker 5: a vacuum, but that is most definitely the version that
- 12:51Speaker 5: people will always remember.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I was I was really drawn to your chapter on
- 12:56Speaker 1: the on the making of Rumors, which is one of
- 13:00Speaker 1: the biggest selling albums of all time. The fact, I
- 13:04Speaker 1: mean there's so much there. The fact that first of
- 13:07Speaker 1: all that album ever got released with what everything was
- 13:11Speaker 1: going on behind the scenes, to me is pretty remarkable.
- 13:15Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a real mess, isn't it. You know, there
- 13:17Speaker 5: was just there's so much infighting. It's kind of it's
- 13:20Speaker 5: funny but it's kind of sad at the same time.
- 13:23Speaker 5: But it just goes to show how they put them
- 13:25Speaker 5: and this is the thing they put the.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Music before everything else.
- 13:28Speaker 5: I to remember Christy McVie said, she said, this band
- 13:31Speaker 5: will never break up for something as trivial as a divorce,
- 13:35Speaker 5: and you can't. Well, you know, you think of how
- 13:37Speaker 5: many people would go to work every day with their
- 13:40Speaker 5: ex partner there. You know, it would be challenging for
- 13:44Speaker 5: most people to have to go there and make music
- 13:46Speaker 5: together and then go on the road in two for
- 13:48Speaker 5: eight or nine months, seeing them day after day, year,
- 13:52Speaker 5: week after week, it would be exhausting. But the fact
- 13:56Speaker 5: is they made it worked, didn't they.
- 13:58Speaker 1: And singing songs right next to each other that were
- 14:01Speaker 1: pointedly against whoever you know was was singing that particular
- 14:06Speaker 1: song on on the evening.
- 14:08Speaker 5: Absolutely, and I only I mean, go your own way
- 14:10Speaker 5: is the obvious one. Lindsay Buckinghams see his kiss off
- 14:14Speaker 5: to Stevie Nicks, and you know, even recently, up until
- 14:16Speaker 5: a few years ago on to if you watch them
- 14:19Speaker 5: perform that live, there's the line you're shacking up is
- 14:21Speaker 5: all you want to do? Which Steve Nicks hates that line.
- 14:25Speaker 5: She never stops telling interviews how she hates that. Watching it,
- 14:28Speaker 5: she starts flashing looks at him. You know, even after
- 14:33Speaker 5: all these years, she can't she can't forget, you know. Incredible.
- 14:38Speaker 1: So I mean, when you talk about and I've and
- 14:42Speaker 1: you've written on led Zeppelin, and I think we we've
- 14:46Speaker 1: talked about that a little bit. But if if you
- 14:49Speaker 1: want to see a poster band for sex, drugs and
- 14:53Speaker 1: rock and roll, I mean this one rivals led Zeppelin.
- 14:59Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely, because they were having sex with each other,
- 15:02Speaker 5: which Thank god that never happened in led Zepfe Fleet
- 15:07Speaker 5: We're back the whole other layer of community complication because
- 15:10Speaker 5: they're couples. They were romantic couples. There's a husband and
- 15:13Speaker 5: wife thing going on there. So you know, there was
- 15:16Speaker 5: plenty of sex, drugs and rock and roll in legs,
- 15:18Speaker 5: but I think sex Fleet were Mac.
- 15:21Speaker 3: They top it definitely.
- 15:23Speaker 1: So I want to go back to rumors a little bit.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Could you could you just distill a couple of three
- 15:30Speaker 1: of the issues that were going on when when they
- 15:33Speaker 1: were trying to put that record together.
- 15:36Speaker 5: Well, one of the issues was, obviously Christy McVey had
- 15:39Speaker 5: a new boyfriend at times he split up with John mcvee,
- 15:42Speaker 5: her husband, and she had a new boyfriend. But what
- 15:45Speaker 5: kind of made it a little bit complicated is that
- 15:47Speaker 5: the new boyfriend was Fleetwood, Mac's lighting engineer, so.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Kind of she kind of kept it in house.
- 15:55Speaker 5: And there's his brilliant stories where everybody else knew about
- 15:58Speaker 5: it apart from John mcvi.
- 16:00Speaker 3: So you know, if this guy his name was Curry.
- 16:02Speaker 5: Grant and he went on to become a huge figure
- 16:06Speaker 5: in the world of lighting, he's still around.
- 16:09Speaker 3: And you know, so if Curry turned up at the studio.
- 16:12Speaker 5: They'd have to make sure John ve didn't see him,
- 16:16Speaker 5: So there are lots of people dashing in and outdoor.
- 16:18Speaker 5: Stevie Nicks used to drive Christine and Curry around in
- 16:22Speaker 5: her car and they'd have to lie down on the
- 16:23Speaker 5: back seat so John mcvee can see.
- 16:28Speaker 1: So Christine left us not that long ago. Lindsey's out
- 16:34Speaker 1: of the group. You have Mick Fleetwood living in Hawaii
- 16:39Speaker 1: and Stevie, do you ever see another iteration of this
- 16:45Speaker 1: band touring again?
- 16:47Speaker 3: I don't.
- 16:48Speaker 5: Personally, no, I don't, And I think the death of
- 16:51Speaker 5: Christine mcvee has sort of put paid to that, and
- 16:53Speaker 5: Stephen Nix's been fatic about how she wouldn't do it again,
- 16:57Speaker 5: and I also, you know, like you're saying about the
- 17:00Speaker 5: stuff she's been saying recently about Lindsay Bucking, and I
- 17:02Speaker 5: just kind of feel like, just let it go now,
- 17:05Speaker 5: leave it now, no more, no more Fleetwood back now.
- 17:09Speaker 5: So no, I can't see it happening. But you know,
- 17:12Speaker 5: the book's called them many lives. I mean, I when
- 17:14Speaker 5: I saw them in the eighties the first time, I thought, well,
- 17:16Speaker 5: I'll go and see them now because they won't come
- 17:18Speaker 5: back round again. Yes, that's over thirty years ago, and
- 17:22Speaker 5: I've gone bold since then, so.
- 17:24Speaker 3: It's like and they were still here.
- 17:27Speaker 1: They are still around. The book is called Dreams the
- 17:32Speaker 1: Many Lives of Fleetwood Mac. Mark Blake is the author.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Mark Great to catch up with you.
- 17:37Speaker 5: Thanks so much, Thank you, chick pleasure always thank you.
- 17:41Speaker 1: That was author Mark Blake on Fleetwood Mac. Why well, But,
- 17:47Speaker 1: as we've mentioned, is Stevie's seventy eighth birthday, and not
- 17:52Speaker 1: too long ago I visited with Annie Zeleski. She has
- 17:56Speaker 1: written a book called Stevie Nicks in Fifty Songs. She
- 18:02Speaker 1: picked fifty songs, not all of them written by Stevie,
- 18:04Speaker 1: some by their people that were influential in her career.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Really cool book, kind of a coffee table book with
- 18:12Speaker 1: great pictures. So I wanted to play that interview with
- 18:16Speaker 1: Annie Zeleski. Annie, how are you?
- 18:19Speaker 6: I'm great?
- 18:20Speaker 1: How are you I'm doing great? What a great book.
- 18:23Speaker 1: I've really enjoyed it. What it's done is make me
- 18:26Speaker 1: go back and listen to some of these songs that
- 18:30Speaker 1: I haven't heard in a while, and for that I
- 18:32Speaker 1: thank you.
- 18:34Speaker 7: Actually I've done my job. Then that's great. That's my hope.
- 18:37Speaker 7: Is that when people pick up the book, they immediately
- 18:39Speaker 7: want to spin some of her music.
- 18:41Speaker 1: No doubt. And as I read the book, I had
- 18:44Speaker 1: some music playing, so that made it even better.
- 18:47Speaker 6: Awesome.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Let's start like at the beginning, I was surprised to
- 18:54Speaker 1: read about her musical influences, especially in the country genre.
- 19:01Speaker 7: Absolutely, you know, this is I think one of my
- 19:03Speaker 7: favorite things is that kind of reading about her grandfather,
- 19:06Speaker 7: who was an aspiring country artist, you know, and like
- 19:10Speaker 7: he made her a little guitar, which is super cute,
- 19:13Speaker 7: and like, you know, he taught her how to sing
- 19:16Speaker 7: using country tunes and you figure, and we're talking about
- 19:18Speaker 7: like Red Sovine and stuff, so like nineteen fifties, you know,
- 19:22Speaker 7: and those songs are so well constructed. But also you know,
- 19:26Speaker 7: you have to really know how to melody harmony, like
- 19:28Speaker 7: you know, if you want to talk about you know,
- 19:30Speaker 7: getting the foundation of singing, that stuff's great. And so yeah,
- 19:34Speaker 7: that was like as a very tiny child, you know,
- 19:36Speaker 7: that's who she learned from. And you know she later
- 19:38Speaker 7: graduated to things like Joni Mitchell and Linda Ronstadt and
- 19:42Speaker 7: so you know, you can kind of there's a really
- 19:44Speaker 7: nice through line in terms of her evolution.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Let our listeners know the significance of California Dreaming by
- 19:51Speaker 1: the Mamas and Papas.
- 19:53Speaker 7: Oh absolutely, you know, Thank goodness, the song existed because
- 19:57Speaker 7: Stevie knew that song inside it out. And one day
- 20:00Speaker 7: in high school she went to kind of a social
- 20:02Speaker 7: gathering and this person walked in the room and sat down,
- 20:06Speaker 7: had a guitar, started playing the song and she just
- 20:09Speaker 7: happened to walk over and start singing along with him.
- 20:12Speaker 7: And that person was Lindsay Buckingham, and you know, he
- 20:15Speaker 7: was he was pretty I guess he was, you know,
- 20:18Speaker 7: uh impressed a little bit. And then he let them
- 20:21Speaker 7: you know, they sang another song together, and you know,
- 20:24Speaker 7: I think that changed the course of history.
- 20:25Speaker 6: Let's I think that's safe to say.
- 20:28Speaker 1: How would and you and you do talk about this
- 20:31Speaker 1: quite a bit, you can't help but talk about it,
- 20:33Speaker 1: But how would you describe the relationship over the years
- 20:37Speaker 1: between her and Lindsey.
- 20:41Speaker 7: I mean, I think they are the textbook definition of
- 20:43Speaker 7: sort of a tumultuous up and down relationship.
- 20:47Speaker 8: You know.
- 20:47Speaker 7: Obviously they dated for a while and things were great,
- 20:50Speaker 7: and then they broke up, you know, and they were
- 20:53Speaker 7: in but they were still creative partners in a band together,
- 20:56Speaker 7: you know. And so I think, you know, as with
- 20:58Speaker 7: any very long relationlationship with anyone, you know, platonic or not,
- 21:02Speaker 7: there are ebbs and flows where you know they're getting
- 21:04Speaker 7: along and better sometimes other times they're on the outs.
- 21:09Speaker 7: You know my sense, because they reissued the Buckingham nixt
- 21:12Speaker 7: album last year and just some kind of recent comments
- 21:15Speaker 7: by lindsay, I think things are okay right now, which is,
- 21:18Speaker 7: you know what you want to see. You know, you
- 21:20Speaker 7: don't like to see old friends, even if they have
- 21:22Speaker 7: history together, you know, fighting because you know life's too short.
- 21:26Speaker 1: You throw in drugs and alcohol. That's a dangerous mix.
- 21:30Speaker 7: Exactly, you know, and that just exacerbates, you know, the
- 21:33Speaker 7: tumultuous emotions and the up and down things, you know,
- 21:36Speaker 7: and colors are thinking and all sorts of things.
- 21:39Speaker 1: You can't talk about her without talking about her style,
- 21:43Speaker 1: and you write extensively about that. I found that fascinating.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Let's talk about that and how that came about for her.
- 21:52Speaker 4: You know.
- 21:52Speaker 7: So I mean I love all of these stories because yeah,
- 21:55Speaker 7: when you look at Stevie, she in the late seventies
- 21:58Speaker 7: really settled on the like feminine but strong style, you know,
- 22:03Speaker 7: very very hippy influenced, you know, kind of long flowy skirts,
- 22:09Speaker 7: you know, and dresses you know, having you know, eventually
- 22:12Speaker 7: she added a top hat, pointy boots, you know, really
- 22:16Speaker 7: beautiful necklaces, and you know, it's it's a little bit
- 22:20Speaker 7: it's a little bit witchy. It's a little bit hippie,
- 22:22Speaker 7: but it's you know, also just you know, she's it's
- 22:25Speaker 7: like HALLOWEENI but in the really like who Tour sort
- 22:29Speaker 7: of way. You know, she was just at the met
- 22:31Speaker 7: gala and her dress was beautiful, you know, beautiful materials,
- 22:35Speaker 7: so very very elegant as well. You know, she always
- 22:38Speaker 7: looks really really put together, and as someone who also
- 22:40Speaker 7: wears all black, I appreciate that because matching the outfits
- 22:44Speaker 7: like a dream totally easy. So it also makes living easier.
- 22:48Speaker 1: She talked about still having her first shawl. She has
- 22:51Speaker 1: a whole room dedicated to that.
- 22:53Speaker 6: Right absolutely, she has a room of shawls.
- 22:56Speaker 7: I mean, you know, talk about like you know, aspirational
- 23:00Speaker 7: and you know, and she has like her.
- 23:02Speaker 6: Gold dust Woman shawl.
- 23:03Speaker 7: Yeah, and you know with like you know, with that
- 23:05Speaker 7: has like little gold flex in it and like kind
- 23:08Speaker 7: of a bluish black shawl. You know, it's almost like
- 23:11Speaker 7: a talisman. You know, she brings it on stage and
- 23:13Speaker 7: you know, you she puts on a shawl and it's
- 23:15Speaker 7: like you know those those superheroes right that they put
- 23:18Speaker 7: on something, they transform. She does that, and she transforms
- 23:21Speaker 7: into Stevie Nicks. You know, she can't help but twirl
- 23:23Speaker 7: when having a shawl around her.
- 23:26Speaker 1: You mentioned the phrase witchy, and you delve into that,
- 23:30Speaker 1: and I think I remember, was that kind of a
- 23:33Speaker 1: throwaway line at the time that just went viral? And
- 23:39Speaker 1: of course there wasn't in those days, But how did
- 23:42Speaker 1: that all kind of come about?
- 23:45Speaker 7: It's funny you say that, because that was one of
- 23:47Speaker 7: the things that I did a lot of deep research on,
- 23:49Speaker 7: because she did make some comment at one point, like
- 23:52Speaker 7: either some you know, interviewer asked her about witchiness or
- 23:56Speaker 7: she said something and people just ran with it, and
- 23:59Speaker 7: I couldn't find sort of the patient zero of witchiness.
- 24:02Speaker 7: I look to try to see if I could find
- 24:04Speaker 7: what she was referring to. But you know, whatever it is,
- 24:07Speaker 7: You're right, it's stuck, and all through the eighties and
- 24:10Speaker 7: nineties and even through you know, recent times, people ask
- 24:14Speaker 7: her about that. You know, when she's it can get
- 24:16Speaker 7: a little tiring for her, I think, but you know,
- 24:18Speaker 7: over the years she's had a little bit of fun
- 24:19Speaker 7: with it, but it can be really serious. Like I
- 24:22Speaker 7: found the story where, you know, there was in the
- 24:25Speaker 7: late nineties there were some kids at a high school
- 24:27Speaker 7: I think, that were banned from singing one of her
- 24:29Speaker 7: songs because of the witch connotations, which is just wild
- 24:32Speaker 7: to think about. That wasn't that long ago, you know,
- 24:35Speaker 7: And so she had.
- 24:36Speaker 1: And that won't go away, as you mentioned, I mean,
- 24:38Speaker 1: it just has not gone away for her career.
- 24:41Speaker 6: No, absolutely not.
- 24:43Speaker 1: And you know I'm not saying you said she gets
- 24:47Speaker 1: tired of it, but still it's it's just something else
- 24:51Speaker 1: that makes this mysterious woman, does it not?
- 24:57Speaker 6: Absolutely?
- 24:58Speaker 7: And it's true because know she you know, it's not
- 25:01Speaker 7: like she's you know, I mean back in the day,
- 25:04Speaker 7: at one point she actually did start wearing white to
- 25:06Speaker 7: try to kind of like, you know, get people to
- 25:08Speaker 7: stop talking about this. But then at a certain point
- 25:11Speaker 7: she's like, well wait a second, this isn't me. Uh,
- 25:13Speaker 7: you know, So she's really kind of tried to navigate it,
- 25:15Speaker 7: but she's you know, she's always been herself, and I
- 25:18Speaker 7: think That's what really, you know, stands out is that
- 25:20Speaker 7: she's really always embraced what, you know, what's made her
- 25:24Speaker 7: her and never shied away from that.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Where does she rank in the pantheon of great song
- 25:31Speaker 1: writers over the years.
- 25:34Speaker 6: Oh my goodness.
- 25:35Speaker 7: I mean, just you know, way up there, you know,
- 25:37Speaker 7: way up there, because I feel like that she, you know,
- 25:41Speaker 7: has really captured you know, kind of what it means
- 25:44Speaker 7: to you know, kind of be be human.
- 25:46Speaker 6: Really.
- 25:46Speaker 7: I mean, she talks about coming of age songs, she
- 25:49Speaker 7: has romantic ups and downs, she has she's talked about
- 25:52Speaker 7: personal loss, you know, but she's also talked about kind
- 25:56Speaker 7: of you know, literary like fantastical figures. She's talked about
- 26:00Speaker 7: politics a little bit. You know, She's really you know,
- 26:03Speaker 7: kind of made this body of work that is just
- 26:05Speaker 7: really covers, that's very vulnerable, that covers, you know, no
- 26:09Speaker 7: matter what your mood is.
- 26:10Speaker 6: There's a Stevie Nick song for that.
- 26:12Speaker 1: How surprising, if at all, is it that she is
- 26:15Speaker 1: still going all these years later.
- 26:18Speaker 7: I Mean I'm not surprised, because she is, you know,
- 26:20Speaker 7: her her popularity, you know, remarkably enough, has almost just
- 26:24Speaker 7: kept climbing in the last like decade or so. Because
- 26:27Speaker 7: there's so many young fans that are into her. I
- 26:30Speaker 7: think she really thrives on being in front of an
- 26:32Speaker 7: audience and really sharing her art and music and connecting
- 26:34Speaker 7: with people. You know, there's just something about when she
- 26:36Speaker 7: gets on stage that you can just tell that it
- 26:39Speaker 7: just really boys her and energizes her. And so I
- 26:43Speaker 7: think that it, you know, it makes perfect sense to me.
- 26:45Speaker 7: And because she still has so much to say, you know,
- 26:47Speaker 7: she's definitely you know, she has an album that's you know,
- 26:50Speaker 7: been brewing people have been hinting at. So I think
- 26:53Speaker 7: it's just really you know that she has shows no
- 26:56Speaker 7: signs of stopping or slowing down.
- 26:58Speaker 1: The book is called Stevie in Fifty Songs. It is
- 27:02Speaker 1: wonderfully illustrated. Annie Zeleski is the author. Annie, I really
- 27:06Speaker 1: appreciate the time. Thank you so.
- 27:08Speaker 6: Much, thanks for having me.
- 27:10Speaker 1: My thanks to Annie Zeleski. I thought we replay this

- 30:58Speaker 1: Let me start with a couple of things if I could,
- 31:01Speaker 1: and I can because it's my show. Yeah, somebody that
- 31:08Speaker 1: was a long time ago. Darryl Sheets was part of
- 31:12Speaker 1: A and E storage Wars and his cause of death
- 31:16Speaker 1: has been released. It was suicide after the finding, The
- 31:23Speaker 1: Lake Havasu City Police Department released a statement confirming that
- 31:28Speaker 1: it was ruled of suicide pending the completion of toxicology results,
- 31:32Speaker 1: but it continues to be an active investigation because of
- 31:36Speaker 1: allegations of cyber bullying associated with the case. The day
- 31:42Speaker 1: his body was discovered, Storage War's co star Renee Nezoda
- 31:48Speaker 1: alleged that Sheets had a guy really really tormenting him
- 31:52Speaker 1: lately and cyber bullying him. The statement says the Criminal
- 31:58Speaker 1: Investigation Unit has submitted Darryl sheet cellular phone for forensic
- 32:02Speaker 1: analysis and is currently awaiting the results. This investigative step
- 32:07Speaker 1: is essential to advancing the case. Additional information will be
- 32:11Speaker 1: released as it becomes available. That's very strange and sad.
- 32:18Speaker 4: If true, it is sad. Keep your thoughts to yourself, guys,
- 32:23Speaker 4: matter how you know.
- 32:26Speaker 1: That's crazy. Here's another one. Anthony Bourdaine, of course, died
- 32:34Speaker 1: eight years ago now, which is hard to believe by
- 32:39Speaker 1: his own hand, he was sixty one. But there's going
- 32:41Speaker 1: to be a new biopic released in August from BlackBerry
- 32:47Speaker 1: director Matt Johnson. The trailer for Tony was released yesterday.
- 32:54Speaker 1: The Holdovers actor Dominique Sessa is playing the nineteen year
- 33:00Speaker 1: old troubled writer for New Jersey Cessys. Bourdain tells high
- 33:05Speaker 1: school friend and love interests Nancy, I'm about to get
- 33:10Speaker 1: this huge writing fellowship before he gets a call from
- 33:14Speaker 1: the committee that has decided to go with another student.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Bourdain gets into fights, punches walls, gets thrown out of
- 33:20Speaker 1: bars as his life as a writer takes a detour
- 33:24Speaker 1: when he gets a job at a restaurant in Massachusetts
- 33:29Speaker 1: owned by a character played by Antonio Benderris. In between
- 33:33Speaker 1: cooking and shooting lobsters, Bourdain builds a bond with the
- 33:37Speaker 1: chef and his coworkers as he gets more comfortable in
- 33:41Speaker 1: the kitchen that he would shape the course of his life.
- 33:47Speaker 1: How about that? Of course he had all kinds of shows,
- 33:52Speaker 1: no reservations, Parts unknown, traveled the world a very popular actually.
- 34:01Speaker 1: But again, this is coming out in August. It doesn't
- 34:06Speaker 1: say what if it's being streamed, if it's going to
- 34:09Speaker 1: be in theaters first, I don't know. I just have
- 34:13Speaker 1: to we'll have to wait. Yes, people will have to
- 34:15Speaker 1: tune in and find out. Absolutely so there there.
- 34:21Speaker 4: You only haven't talked about in a while.
- 34:23Speaker 1: What Travis Kelsey, you know, you know we have it.
- 34:28Speaker 4: Well, it's not one. It's not football season, and Taylor
- 34:30Speaker 4: Switch not on tour, so that's probably why. But Travis
- 34:33Speaker 4: Kelsey is looking forward to his wedding day, which, honestly,
- 34:36Speaker 4: what a fire.
- 34:37Speaker 1: We don't know when that is.
- 34:39Speaker 4: By the way, well there's rumors July fourth. I'll see.
- 34:43Speaker 1: I hope that it's sooner rather than later. Let's supposed
- 34:47Speaker 1: to put it that way.
- 34:48Speaker 4: There you go. The thirty six year old NFL star
- 34:50Speaker 4: is preparing to tie the knot with his fiance Taylor Switch,
- 34:53Speaker 4: after sharing their engagement news in August twenty twenty five. Today,
- 34:58Speaker 4: the topic of the couple's wedding ca came up during
- 35:00Speaker 4: an interview with golf pro Rory Mackelrol. No kidding, I
- 35:05Speaker 4: love saying that guy's name. I don't know why.
- 35:07Speaker 1: There's some there, Yeah.
- 35:11Speaker 4: Very yeah. For his and his brother Jason Kelsey's new
- 35:14Speaker 4: Highs podcast, Malchlroy, who won the Masters again this year,
- 35:18Speaker 4: was discussing the honor of hosting the tournament's annual Master's
- 35:22Speaker 4: Champions Dinner when he mentioned the Kelsey Swift nuptials. Travis,
- 35:26Speaker 4: you'll feel this this this year. Whenever you're sitting at
- 35:30Speaker 4: your wedding and you have all the people in the
- 35:32Speaker 4: room from like it's so it is so amazing to
- 35:35Speaker 4: have all these people in the same room from your childhood,
- 35:38Speaker 4: and it's surreal. It's unbelievable. The only thing that I
- 35:41Speaker 4: can compare it to your wedding day is to your
- 35:45Speaker 4: wedding day because it's like a collection of people in
- 35:48Speaker 4: the same room. It's wild.
- 35:50Speaker 1: And then Travis responded, exactly when and where they're getting married?
- 35:53Speaker 4: Right, yes, he.
- 35:55Speaker 13: Said, the actual demographic, the actual point where they're getting
- 36:01Speaker 13: married dayton times down.
- 36:03Speaker 1: To the TBD whatever TBD. I haven't got my invite yet,
- 36:08Speaker 1: by the way, still waiting.
- 36:11Speaker 11: I don't know.
- 36:13Speaker 1: You know, I didn't get invited to the met gala again.
- 36:16Speaker 1: I did not get invited again to the met gala.
- 36:20Speaker 4: I know you had such a great outfit picked out.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. At Purple Talks from high school, The
- 36:27Speaker 1: Rolling Stones are speaking in foreign tongues. The Rock Icons
- 36:32Speaker 1: announcing their twenty fifth studio album release on July tenth,
- 36:39Speaker 1: which they teased with two bluesy new songs called in
- 36:43Speaker 1: the Stars and Rough and Twisted. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards,
- 36:50Speaker 1: Ronnie Wood had a launch party greeting fans at the
- 36:56Speaker 1: cavernous historic former bank turned event place in Williamsburg. Inside,
- 37:04Speaker 1: projections for the Stones' famous tongue and lips logo danced
- 37:08Speaker 1: across the ceiling. Guests were served a selection of ordures
- 37:12Speaker 1: and cocktails. Hey again, I was not invited. The band
- 37:19Speaker 1: joined super fan Conan O'Brien for a freewheeling roughly half
- 37:25Speaker 1: hour conversation in which they discussed the recording process and
- 37:29Speaker 1: how they stayed vital more than sixty years together. O'Brien
- 37:35Speaker 1: was asked asking Jagger how he still sounds like he
- 37:39Speaker 1: did when he was twenties. Jagger quipped, well, I was
- 37:42Speaker 1: taking a lot of drugs back in nineteen sixty eight.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Guest artists on this album include Paul McCartney. Jagger told
- 37:53Speaker 1: Conan Paul really wanted to jump in there. He was
- 37:57Speaker 1: next door in the studio. There was no intimate a
- 38:00Speaker 1: nation from Paul. Wood joked he wanted to tick that box.
- 38:04Speaker 1: He said, Now I can say I played with the
- 38:07Speaker 1: Rolling Stones. Wow, that's that's pretty good. You know. I
- 38:14Speaker 1: had a friend at a conference in Vegas yesterday and
- 38:18Speaker 1: their their guest speaker was Jay Leno and he sent
- 38:22Speaker 1: me a video of a sit down Q and a
- 38:26Speaker 1: leno just took questions, and my friend was sending me, Hey,
- 38:30Speaker 1: what should I ask him next? What should I ask
- 38:32Speaker 1: him about?
- 38:33Speaker 8: You know?
- 38:34Speaker 1: Uh, and all these people asking him questions. Is pretty
- 38:36Speaker 1: cool that I told him to ask him how much
- 38:39Speaker 1: he was getting paid for the gig, but I don't
- 38:41Speaker 1: think he did that.
- 38:46Speaker 4: Yeah, we can only imagine.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Yeah, six figures, I assume. Yeah.
- 38:53Speaker 4: Uh, well, well we were talking about it previous. Yes,
- 38:58Speaker 4: apparently between Rihanna and Asa Rocky boiled over not once. Yeah,
- 39:05Speaker 4: apparently there is a video knowing the couple clearly unhappy
- 39:09Speaker 4: behind the scenes. So there was a video posted last
